- 0:00Hi dog mums, we're back with another episode of the Natural
- 0:03Dog Mum podcast. Today we're having a chat with a
- 0:08holistic Rex. She has her practise in Adelaide
- 0:13and actually sees clients inside Pet Delis new Wellness studio.
- 0:19Very, very exciting stuff. Her name is Doctor Carolyn
- 0:22Kinghorn and we're going to be talking today about all things
- 0:26natural pet care and doing a little bit of a deep dive on
- 0:30skin fit timing now that the canola's AT and the wind is
- 0:35delivering all the pollen and all the lovely bits and pieces
- 0:38left and right and all the grass is scratching up and we've got
- 0:42itchy, uncomfortable puppies everywhere.
- 0:44So we're going to be having a talk about how these things
- 0:48affect your puppies and what we can do about it, preferably
- 0:52while avoiding medications and chemicals and things that can
- 0:56cause long term. So stick around.
- 1:00Hello, thanks for coming. Hi, how you going?
- 1:04Good, good, good, good. Lovely to meet you finally.
- 1:09Yes, it too. Thank you.
- 1:12Would you like to start us off by giving us a little bit of a a
- 1:16background about how you got into the space?
- 1:20Yeah, sure. It was kind of a natural,
- 1:24seemingly natural progression. I started off in when I
- 1:27graduated in 99 and I went into general practise and it wasn't
- 1:32my jam. It certainly has a space, it
- 1:35just wasn't mine. And I went into emergency and
- 1:37critical care for many years, went back to general practise
- 1:43and I just got a bit disillusioned with band aid
- 1:47treatments. I want to know why.
- 1:50Why is the animal exhibiting whatever they're exhibiting?
- 1:54Not just skin issues, but whatever.
- 1:55But why? Why, why, why?
- 1:56So I decided to do my postgraduate in veterinary
- 2:02acupuncture. So I became an acupuncturist.
- 2:05I had great results. I had so many owners asking me
- 2:08to treat them, which I couldn't. So I did my human acupuncture
- 2:12bachelor degree. So I've got degrees in both and
- 2:15then I'm just transcend. Nutrition's always been super
- 2:18important with me as being a foundation.
- 2:21And I know we're talking about skin, but nutrition has a huge
- 2:26impact on dogs with skin issues. And my philosophy is always
- 2:31treat from the inside out, not from the outside in.
- 2:37So even though I practise holistic medicine, like you
- 2:40said, to avoid the holistic medicine to avoid Western
- 2:44medicine avoid or costs. But if they're in an acute
- 2:52phase, I certainly think there's some medications that can be
- 2:55warranted just to help bridge while I get them under control.
- 3:01But that's, that's my philosophy, is to treat as
- 3:06naturally as possible to build up an animal's immune system in
- 3:10order to be able to fight whatever allergens is causing
- 3:14their issue, which can be contact, can be seasonal, it can
- 3:20be dietary. Regardless, it's an immune
- 3:23response. So it's about building up their
- 3:25gut health, building up their immunity in order for them to be
- 3:29able to fight the response that they're sensitive to.
- 3:35Absolutely. So can you give us some examples
- 3:39for those who don't have a dog having these sorts of issues,
- 3:45what what sort of problems or what sort of symptoms are pet
- 3:51iron is presenting with? As far as skin goes, that
- 3:54itchiness obviously. So my first question would be
- 3:58about seasons. Are they chewing their feet?
- 4:01Have they got ear infections? Is it if it's contacts, it's
- 4:05generally the feet. So what happens with dogs?
- 4:09That is a contact allergy. They'll chew their feet and
- 4:13guess what? Then you have cross transference
- 4:16because they're chewing the feet and that bacteria goes around
- 4:19their mouth so often. Then they'll rub their face
- 4:21along the ground because then you're getting the same sort of
- 4:24issues around their mouth and then they'll itch their ears.
- 4:27So then we've got a wet pour from chewing it with all the
- 4:30bacteria and then they'll scratch their ears and guess
- 4:33where the bacteria or yeast or wherever all goes, It goes into
- 4:37their ear. So then you have cross
- 4:41transference from all those things.
- 4:43So it's about treating, finding the root cause and treating that
- 4:47while treating the branch infections everywhere else.
- 4:51If it's generalised, if they're just itchy all over, then I'm
- 4:58looking probably more environmental with inhalation
- 5:04allergens, which can be a little bit more tricky, but it's not
- 5:08impossible. So that's because you can't test
- 5:12for everything. We don't know everything that's
- 5:16in the environment, we just don't.
- 5:19So you can't test for it all. There's so many factors out
- 5:24there that we can't test for because we don't know or
- 5:28whatever. So is it?
- 5:29That's a very hard one where seasonal things comes in not
- 5:34walking between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, which is when the
- 5:37pollen count is high. If it is pollen.
- 5:42But there's so many factors. But I'll always go back into gut
- 5:46and the one thing with generalised itchiness when
- 5:50they're quite distressed is I'll also ask about anxiety because
- 5:56when a dog or a cat is itchy all the time, and yes, they get
- 6:03exhausted and might sleep during the night for whatever reason,
- 6:07they still need to sleep. But if they are itchy, there's a
- 6:11degree of of anxiety that goes with that.
- 6:15If you've ever had hives before being covered in mozzie bites,
- 6:20you can't tell me that it's not distressing.
- 6:23You're not just like, yeah, whatever, of course it's
- 6:27distressing. So that affects the nervous
- 6:29system as well because there's a degree of anxiety.
- 6:33So that then comes into the gut brain barrier.
- 6:36The adrenal glands get involved with cortisol.
- 6:40Cortisol that are released when it's times of distress affects
- 6:44the gut microbiome and then you get leaky gut, which tends to be
- 6:50a bit of a term used lately but it's the truth.
- 6:53The microbiome then isn't great, which is the gut bacterial
- 6:57health. So the gut needs to be
- 6:59supported. So when I treats in dogs, that's
- 7:03what I mean about starting from the inside out.
- 7:05So I go straight and do a formulated diet for each animal.
- 7:10That's an anti inflammatory diet.
- 7:12I look at each case. You would never get a generic
- 7:16diet plan from me. I look at each animal and each
- 7:20animal gets it tailored to them to decrease systematic,
- 7:27systemic, I beg your pardon, systemic inflammation, fix the
- 7:32microbiome with probiotics and supplements and decrease the
- 7:40anxiety as well. And it takes about two to four
- 7:44weeks for it to reach therapeutic effect.
- 7:49And I'm very much on the if I can heal with food and basic
- 7:54supplements, I will. I'm not, I, I don't like
- 7:58throwing everything at them because I then I don't know what
- 8:02it is that has worked. So I choose nutrition first with
- 8:09basic gut probiotics to help the gut heal and decrease
- 8:14inflammation through food and then I'll tweak it as we go
- 8:20along. So it's a four week plan with
- 8:23me, it's certainly not. So my clients will call me and
- 8:27ask questions and I'm all all ears for that because once
- 8:33they're on my journey with me, my aim is to get the dog or cat
- 8:37better. And that doesn't mean they don't
- 8:41have relapses. Like you spoke about the canola,
- 8:43at the moment moment there's going to be relapses and you
- 8:47just have to persevere and not go back to square one, but not
- 8:54be disillusioned either. It's people with hay fever.
- 8:58If they're under stress, you'll have worse years than others.
- 9:02If there's stress, they're going to have worse symptoms.
- 9:04It's the same with animals. If there's that you, they might
- 9:10have lost a dog, gained a dog, moved house and whatever.
- 9:15So their immunity's affected because they're fit under stress
- 9:20and so they might have a skin flare up.
- 9:22So it just needs to be managed. Absolutely.
- 9:24And just like us humans, dogs immune systems or or roughly 70%
- 9:32of their immune system very similar to humans actually lives
- 9:37inside the guts, something that more pet parents should probably
- 9:42be aware of that again, as you said, healing from the inside
- 9:47out is, you know, is sugar important?
- 9:52But whether it's skin or whether it's, you know, any number of
- 9:55different symptoms that they're displaying, gut health is
- 9:59absolutely number one and the first thing that needs to be
- 10:03balanced. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 10:06It doesn't matter if a client comes in with an animal or their
- 10:10pet for a sore knee, I'll always ask them what their diet is
- 10:17because everything comes back to nutrition, regardless of its
- 10:24skin, arthritis, whatever. It comes back to them getting
- 10:28good nutrition. Absolutely.
- 10:30Yeah, for. For sure, I mean the yeah, the
- 10:33the difference is not and die when you see particularly a dog
- 10:36that's that's really uncomfortable really, you know
- 10:39miserable with these sorts of issues.
- 10:41You start getting the diet right and yeah, you start not.
- 10:47You start noticing the difference pretty quickly.
- 10:49Absolutely, absolutely. Yeah, completely agree.
- 10:53You'll have dogs that you know, they they didn't even realise.
- 10:58And it's a bit, it's similar to humans after treating, they say
- 11:03with humans as well. You don't, you don't realise.
- 11:09So people with chronic pain, for instance, and let's let's think
- 11:12about that with animals, when we bring it back to skin that are
- 11:17itchy all the time, you don't really notice the behaviour
- 11:21changes until the itch is gone. So what you thought might be a
- 11:24normal pet, suddenly you fix it from the inside out and then
- 11:28suddenly they're doing zoomings all of a sudden or more
- 11:31energetic or wanting to play. But you just thought maybe that
- 11:35was just them getting older or whatever, but it's actually them
- 11:40just being exhausted from being itchy and their whole system
- 11:45trying to cope with that. Remove that and it's amazing
- 11:49what changes you can see in their entire behaviour and
- 11:53quality of life. Absolutely.
- 11:56Do you have any recent case studies that that jump to mind
- 12:00that you can walk us through a a particular dog or dogs who who
- 12:05came in with with these sorts of issues and what treatments or
- 12:13what supplements, dietary changes you recommended and what
- 12:18the result was? Yeah sure, I've got a lot but
- 12:29OK. Yep, I can pick a golden
- 12:32retriever with skin and gut issues actually so itchy and a
- 12:38bit of like irritable bowel syndrome type issues.
- 12:43So when the dog was under stress he'd get diarrhoea and only a
- 12:49very young dog, so we're talking about 3.
- 12:53There's got a lifetime ahead of him.
- 12:56The vet, he was actually referred to me by another vet
- 13:00because they wanted to put him on Western medication to handle
- 13:05his itchiness and his bowels. SO2 separate medications for
- 13:10really the same underlying problem as far as I look at it.
- 13:15But the owners were very adamant that they wanted to treat it,
- 13:18try to treat him naturally. And the vets, good on them.
- 13:23They just said, look, I distinctly don't have the
- 13:25knowledge and go and see Carolyn because she does have the
- 13:30knowledge, but I simply don't have the knowledge to recommend
- 13:33it. So I'll put them on an anti
- 13:35inflammatory diet. So I'm treating two things now.
- 13:37I'm treating the gut and I'm treating the skin.
- 13:40And this dog had been itchy, I'll call them, they were born
- 13:43itchy. So probably a congenital stress
- 13:47type situation. Probably didn't have a good
- 13:49start in life. As far as gut, once you're born,
- 13:52what you are fed straight away is so important, hugely
- 13:59important on setting up your immune system for all of your
- 14:04life. So it doesn't matter what
- 14:06species you are. And so this dog definitely did
- 14:11not have that. So we're talking about wheat
- 14:13beaks and milk type of stuff and poor quality puppy dry food.
- 14:18So I transitioned so they these owners really wanted him on a
- 14:23ROAR diet. That was what they really
- 14:27wanted. So I explained that putting him
- 14:32on a raw diet straight away, probably his gut would not cope
- 14:37with that without actually resetting his gut.
- 14:40So what I did was what I call is a gut reset.
- 14:45So I put him on a gut recovery diet which also is the same as
- 14:49skin where they fed him just bone broth and he was fine with
- 14:55chicken. If they wasn't fine with
- 14:57chicken, which isn't really anti inflammatory, turkeys better.
- 15:00But with him he was fine on just slow cooked very not so it
- 15:07doesn't destroy the nutrients in the food.
- 15:09Just sweet potato with skin on chicken.
- 15:13Apple cider vinegar to draw out the minerals from the bone.
- 15:18So there's a bit of calcium in there just for five days and and
- 15:26then I transitioned into a cooked diet, adding in egg, egg
- 15:31yolks or eggs. So eggs contain PEA.
- 15:35So PEA is a is a big thing at the moment.
- 15:38So PEA is a really strong anti inflammatory that's produced
- 15:41naturally in humans when there is inflammation.
- 15:48We produce it when there is inflammation, but it also occurs
- 15:51naturally in egg yolks, but not at a huge amount, not at a
- 15:56therapeutic amount. So my anti inflammatory diet
- 16:00included all of those things plus I put him on PA and a
- 16:05probiotic prebiotic enzyme gut health diet.
- 16:11So an anti inflammatory diet would involve fish because
- 16:16obviously omega-3, Omega sixes being an anti inflammatory, lots
- 16:20of greens, anything with inflammation, think green.
- 16:24The proportion of meat to veggies vary on the dog and and
- 16:29they're energetic output. So I don't have a strict diet.
- 16:36Again, I'll work on each dog or cat individually is exactly the
- 16:42same with humans. I'm not going to prescribe the
- 16:45same diet for a marathon runner then what I would someone who's
- 16:50extremely stagnant and difficult to walk.
- 16:53It is so there's not just a blanket amount like it has to be
- 16:58tailored. And we are probably three months
- 17:05in now with him and he is now on a raw food diet which has been
- 17:13transitioned very slowly. So he's on the recovery diet for
- 17:18five days, then on a cooked diet and then transitioned him from
- 17:21that diet to the same diet, from cooked to raw.
- 17:26And he is itchy free. He's bowels have been great
- 17:30except for one episode during a thunderstorm.
- 17:33So highly triggered. Yes.
- 17:36So that was the only diarrhoea and no itchiness.
- 17:41And he's the the owners are just thrilled at the change in him
- 17:49and how happy he is. His coat's better.
- 17:52I've now weaned him off PEA because the less supplements I
- 17:56can do the better. I don't when I start off I don't
- 17:59want them to just be on it forever.
- 18:01I want I want them to fix themselves with food.
- 18:07So he's off the PA supplements. I've put him on a so the initial
- 18:14probiotics, prebiotics and enzymes was to restore the gut
- 18:19to back to health. Now he's on a very basic one
- 18:22which I'll probably start to wean him off soon as well.
- 18:26And then I'll start introducing different proteins away from the
- 18:31anti inflammatory diet because if his system is now healthy and
- 18:35able to fight it and not under stress all the time, he should
- 18:39be fine. So it's been fantastic.
- 18:42And that's just one of many examples that I can think of the
- 18:46top of my head that just came to mind 'cause I just spoke to them
- 18:49yesterday. Amazing.
- 18:50So talk to us a little bit about the kinds of foods that you
- 18:57would be including in an anti inflammatory diet.
- 19:01You mentioned that he started on sweet potato and chicken or for
- 19:08a lot of people Turkey. Once that initial period has
- 19:14passed and the gut has been reset, what's What sort of foods
- 19:21do you include? So anti inflammatory diet is
- 19:26basically oily fish if they can tolerate it.
- 19:30So oily fish, Turkey you have to balance it up with awful so
- 19:38awful. A bit hard for some people to
- 19:43get with a variety but luckily I have the sources to get good
- 19:50anti inflammatory offal. I would stay away from chicken.
- 19:55I usually recommend duck and goat and it's only 10% of their
- 19:59diet. They're offal, so you're not
- 20:00talking about a massive portion of their food And and then.
- 20:08The supplements of PEA and are also adding eggs into their diet
- 20:13to get natural PEA again. Anything I can give naturally in
- 20:17their food the better. With anti inflammatory think
- 20:21green so kale, spinach, broccoli.
- 20:26Unless they have an adversity to high calcium foods, which brings
- 20:32it back to another thing altogether.
- 20:33But generally sink green sweet potato is good for the gut, but
- 20:39not necessarily anti inflammatory such.
- 20:41But I like to put something in there that is very beneficial
- 20:46for gut health and that is one that can be quite helpful.
- 20:52And then you've got your antioxidants.
- 20:55So berries, providing they're clean and organic and also
- 21:01financially viable. So you know, blueberries can go
- 21:05from $5.50 a pannet to $14.00 a pannet in a blink of an eye.
- 21:11So it just has to be affordable. Carrots, they're also got the
- 21:16antioxidant properties, but they have to be organic in order for
- 21:20that to be anything. Generally fruit I would
- 21:25definitely stay away from because fructose in the fruit
- 21:29can be quite inflammatory. But the one that I will allow
- 21:35when I say allow, I don't. There's no rule book, but
- 21:37they'll say is OK as a treat. Surprisingly, apples as a treat,
- 21:46not a whole apple per 5K dog, just a little bit because some
- 21:51people, some owners have a difficulty with giving treats
- 21:55because when they put on an anti inflammatory diet, there's no
- 21:59ends of pieces of toast, there's no ends of the cake.
- 22:02There's the you can't have any of that because it will trigger
- 22:06it straight away. So in order to treat the dog
- 22:09sometime you have to also consider the owners behaviour.
- 22:14So you have to placate that so they can give something at the
- 22:16end of the plate if they're not going to be able to adhere to
- 22:20it, that's not going to be bad for the dog and they probably
- 22:23don't want to sit there having their breakfast with a sardine
- 22:28on their plate. So Speaking of that, when I say
- 22:33oily fish, fresh not canned. So apples have got beta
- 22:39flavonoids in them and so they are a really strong anti
- 22:43inflammatory as well. So in some cases I'll say OK,
- 22:49well you can cut up a little bit of apple and have it in the
- 22:52fridge. And if you want to be able to
- 22:55placate that, because the, let's face it, the dog's not going to
- 22:59pass away because you don't give them a treat at the end of a
- 23:03meal, but nor are they going to hate you, by the way, they're
- 23:06still going to love you forever, even if they don't get something
- 23:08at the end of that plate. But some people have those
- 23:11heartstrings and they're not going to be able to stop it.
- 23:14So I have to treat that entire relationship so it doesn't
- 23:21affect my outcome, if that makes sense.
- 23:25So those are sort of yeah. So those are the the main anti
- 23:31inflammatory. Foods think that's actually very
- 23:34good advice, even as a general rule, even if you're not looking
- 23:40to reduce inflammation. I'm a very fussy dog mum and
- 23:44very particular about what I let my dogs have.
- 23:48They're on a raw diet. What I tend to do for treats and
- 23:53they're just as happy is either fruit, either something like
- 23:58apple or a bit of banana or some squished berries.
- 24:02My guys will even take things like tomato, avocado as is.
- 24:07The other things I will do if I want to give them a yummy treat
- 24:11is freeze dried organs, things like that which which are fairly
- 24:16easy to find. They think it's Christmas, but
- 24:22you know you're giving them something that's that's good for
- 24:24their tummy as well. Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:26Which actually just pointed out something that I did not think
- 24:30about and that is tomatoes. So a lot of people are really
- 24:33scared about tomatoes, but it's actually a really good anti
- 24:37inflammatory food and they can tolerate it well as long as
- 24:42they're not sensitive to the salicylic acid in tomatoes.
- 24:47So it's, it's become a, a thing that dogs can't eat tomatoes.
- 24:52They absolutely can have tomatoes.
- 24:56It's it's absolutely not a problem.
- 24:59Just like with people, as long as they don't have a reaction
- 25:03with the salicylic acid and it's not a big deal.
- 25:07I've been working with a pet nutrition nest who's got a PhD
- 25:12in pet nutrition and she does the foods which we've just made
- 25:15up an anti inflammatory raw diet because it's such a huge demand
- 25:21for it in South Australia particularly.
- 25:23I don't know what it's like in other states, but we're really
- 25:25dry so we have a lot of skin issues and tomatoes is most
- 25:30pattern. Victoria is the same.
- 25:32Yeah, Victoria would be the same, especially where where
- 25:35you're based. So tomatoes, it's it that's part
- 25:41of the diet. I mean, even my own dog, she has
- 25:45tomatoes because she doesn't have an adversity to silicitic
- 25:48acid. But yeah, so it's a really good
- 25:51anti inflammatory food. Just everything has to be done
- 25:55correctly. Absolutely for for my guys,
- 25:58it's, you know, as I said, it's a tree.
- 26:01I have a lot of salads with, with cherry tomatoes.
- 26:05These guys will literally take a cherry tomato out of my hand and
- 26:10they, they absolutely love it. The only things they won't eat
- 26:14unless it's wrapped around meat is we haven't got to sell greens
- 26:19and cucumber yet, which are also good for them.
- 26:21They're not, they're not a fan, but but yeah, they, they, they
- 26:26absolutely love those sorts of things.
- 26:28And avocado. I've been feeding little bits to
- 26:31them for quite a while. A lot of people have said but I
- 26:34I thought that was toxic and and they can't have that and and
- 26:38blah blah blah. Well, no, I wouldn't give them
- 26:40the stone and I wouldn't give them the skin, but the flesh is
- 26:43really good for them. Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:46Yep, absolutely. Same with mushrooms.
- 26:48People are worried about mushrooms.
- 26:50Mushrooms are fine, absolutely fine.
- 26:54But really good for the immune system, by the way.
- 26:59But yeah, there's a few. Even broccoli had a bad rap due
- 27:04to one vet that put a report on the Internet saying that their
- 27:11dog had an adverse reaction to broccoli and it was just he
- 27:17could have just eaten something else.
- 27:20It's it's just not founded at all.
- 27:23And and broccoli's fine, absolutely fine.
- 27:27Broccoli, avocado, all of those things that we just talk
- 27:30cucumbers fine as well. That's great.
- 27:33Really cooling, anti inflammatory.
- 27:35I mean, you look at the there's a reason why people put
- 27:38cucumbers on red eyes or a tea bag because it's full of anti
- 27:42inflammatories and and not anti inflammatories, but antioxidants
- 27:45like it's great. So yeah, generally if your dog's
- 27:49drawn to those things, they're telling you something they're
- 27:52saying I want to pull down. Yeah, so, so true.
- 27:56So before we finish up, if there's one thing or a couple of
- 28:01things that come into your mind when you're thinking of pet
- 28:07parrots generally, and Gee, I wish more people knew about
- 28:10this, what would it be? In relation to skin, the first
- 28:16thing that pops into my head is stop feeding a dog dry food.
- 28:19What you're doing, what you're doing in the long run is
- 28:23creating vet bills because the health will inevitably suffer.
- 28:28And also this, what I feel sorry about for owners is that they go
- 28:36to the vets and they get recommended these foods.
- 28:39But The thing is you can't. And they think it's professional
- 28:41advice and it is professional advice.
- 28:44But what they don't understand is from a veterinary point of
- 28:47view. We have been brainwashed since
- 28:51first year of Union vet school to do dry food.
- 28:56We get 6 months of nutrition and none of it is about balanced
- 29:00diet. It's just they should have this
- 29:01amount of crude protein, this amount of blah blah, which makes
- 29:05no sense. Like who sits down?
- 29:07And I mean you and I wouldn't sit down and go, well today I'm
- 29:10going to have this, which will provide this much crude protein.
- 29:12You, you simply don't do it. It's common sense to just have a
- 29:15balanced diet over, say, a week, but they just don't have the
- 29:20education. And unless you're very proactive
- 29:24about going out there and educating yourself about
- 29:29veterinary or pet nutrition, you just don't know.
- 29:32So. So I want owners to be empowered
- 29:35in asking questions and doing their own research and don't,
- 29:42don't be guilt tripped and do what you feel is right.
- 29:45And I have owners that still want to feed their dogs dry
- 29:48food. And that's, you know, I'm not
- 29:51going to, I'm not going to be on the flip side and guilt treat
- 29:53them about that either. But it just makes my job a bit
- 29:58trickier because then I have to support their gut in other ways.
- 30:00I mean they might have 3 great Danes or you know, it might
- 30:05simply not be viable for them to do a home cooked diet or
- 30:10whatever their lifestyle is, but it just means I support them in
- 30:16other ways. But a homemade diet or getting
- 30:21it is not difficult and it is not more expensive.
- 30:26Takes a little bit of more time, but at the end of the day your
- 30:31pet is going to benefit from that greatly health wise and
- 30:36your vet bills will reflect that.
- 30:38Oh. Definitely.
- 30:39I mean, if you put it into in terms of humans with human
- 30:43children, you know, you wouldn't feed your kid McDonald's seven
- 30:48days a week. You know, no.
- 30:49And that's what I've always said.
- 30:51I've said if it's so fantastic, then why aren't we eating it?
- 30:54And the thing with dry food, initially, when it was
- 30:58formulated by scientists for the war dogs, because it wasn't,
- 31:03they couldn't provide the war dogs with food.
- 31:07So they had a scientist come up with dry food and when he first
- 31:11did that, he put in his report that no dog should be fed that
- 31:18for longer than three months. Obviously since that formula,
- 31:26the formulation has changed a lot, a lot.
- 31:32But at the end of the day, dry food should probably say rather
- 31:40than saying balance, which it maybe and all these fancy words
- 31:46and pretty packaging should probably say convenient for
- 31:49owners, not so great for dogs or cats.
- 31:52But I say that with a yes. I say that knowing that some
- 31:58owners are doing the absolute best they can.
- 32:01And so I don't want to make anybody that feel guilty about
- 32:06if they're forced into that situation where they can't do
- 32:09anything different. But that's kind of that's kind
- 32:16of the the base of it really. And like you said, there's no
- 32:21way we would feed our children drive through human children.
- 32:24By the way, there's no doctor that would say, well, I think
- 32:27you need to don't feed you don't feed your child like wholesome
- 32:32food that's balanced. Just feed them these microwave
- 32:36meals or McDonald's. Like there's it just makes
- 32:41doesn't, it's never been never quite made sense of it even
- 32:46since first year vet school many noons ago.
- 32:51It's never made sense because I think in a sense you are sort of
- 32:55what you eat. And if you can fix your gut, you
- 32:59can fix a lot of things, including skin.
- 33:03Absolutely. Well, thank you so much for
- 33:06coming and chatting with us. It's not a.
