Speaker 3: a little serious with both of them before we get
1:02

1:05
Speaker 3: few things going on under the dome. Coach tar, Who's

1:11
Speaker 3: game I heard here on WCHS about some serious stuff
1:14
Speaker 3: his team has gone through this season. So we'll talk
1:16
Speaker 3: to Coach Tarr about that. Going to get into an
1:18
Speaker 3: event happening in Charleston this afternoon. It's called the Feed

Speaker 3: morning heading to the land of Springsteen and Tony Soprano
1:56
Speaker 3: in New Jersey doing a little animal rescue thing. So
1:59
Speaker 3: in her place today we have Elena Allen, no relation
2:02
Speaker 3: to me. Good morning, welcome to the show.
2:05
Speaker 5: Good morning, how are you.
2:06
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine, Thank you for being here. As always,
2:08
Speaker 3: picture posted Dave Allen Radio and Facebook, as well as
2:11
Speaker 3: I said the WH'S Network Facebook page and at Dave
2:15
Speaker 3: a seventy on x Our pet this week is a
2:17
Speaker 3: dog by the name of Buster. Tell us about Buster.
2:21
Speaker 5: So Buster is a two year old neutered male. We
2:25
Speaker 5: have some listed at about fifty fifty five pounds, so
2:28
Speaker 5: he is a bigger guy if that's what you're looking for.
2:32
Speaker 5: He's fully up to date on vaccines, microchips. In terms
2:35
Speaker 5: of like the animals that he gets along with, he
2:39
Speaker 5: does prefer female dogs, but once you know he's around
2:43
Speaker 5: those dogs, he opens up. He's a complete social butterfly. Stuff.
2:47
Speaker 5: That's the home you've got, he would be perfect for it,
2:49
Speaker 5: and then you can always give it a test run
2:51
Speaker 5: with fostering.
2:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, he is a candidate for foster, And I think
2:55
Speaker 3: that's very important sometimes because people you know, as you said,
2:59
Speaker 3: I the term test run. But sometimes and Angie and
3:02
Speaker 3: I talk about this every Weeklane, and sometimes people don't
3:05
Speaker 3: live in but they're not in a position to be
3:09
Speaker 3: able to adopt full time. But I know a lot
3:10
Speaker 3: of folks have a good friend of mine who does that,
3:12
Speaker 3: he and his wife, and they just have a constant
3:15
Speaker 3: stream of foster's coming in. So that's something that you
3:17
Speaker 3: can do to help out, uh, the shelter as well.
3:20
Speaker 3: What kind of challenges has the shelter faced this week
3:23
Speaker 3: with this storm? I mean that's affected everybody but what
3:25
Speaker 3: about the shelter.
3:27
Speaker 5: So we have been completely snowed in. Most of our
3:31
Speaker 5: staff have been snowed in. The ice has been a
3:34
Speaker 5: big challenge. We did have a couple of staff members
3:37
Speaker 5: that stayed overnight. I think we had five or six
3:40
Speaker 5: that stayed for I want to say, maybe three nights
3:42
Speaker 5: in a row, just to make sure the animals got care.
3:45
Speaker 5: And so the dedication of our team does does not stop.
3:50
Speaker 3: That's for sure. We're talking about Elena Allen with the
3:53
Speaker 3: Kannah Charstal Humane Association talking about Buster. This week's Adopt
3:57
Speaker 3: Me Please peted the Week with Dave Allen Show on
3:59
Speaker 3: five eighty Live broad to part by Morgan to Morgan,
4:01
Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm. Now, other than as I
4:05
Speaker 3: said at the top of the show, and Lane is
4:06
Speaker 3: sunny in seventy five, what are you folks in need
4:10
Speaker 3: of up with the shelter right now?
4:13
Speaker 5: I think blankets are probably the biggest thing, and we
4:16
Speaker 5: are running low on wet food. But any donation is appreciated.
4:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, and the blankets are very important as and because
4:26
Speaker 3: we talked to every week. We talked to Angie about that.
4:28
Speaker 3: But you got to make sure that you get things
4:30
Speaker 3: that can't freeze outside in these cold temperatures.
4:33
Speaker 5: Right, yes, absolutely. If you have any outdoor pets, we
4:37
Speaker 5: recommend bringing them inside. But if you absolutely cannot bring
4:40
Speaker 5: them inside, we recommend creating a shelter and not putting
4:44
Speaker 5: blankets in it. Stral is going to be the best thing,
4:46
Speaker 5: because blankets can freeze.
4:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the point. But I know inside the shelter
4:51
Speaker 3: you ask us a blank But I should have phrased
4:53
Speaker 3: that a little bit better. Actually, what I meant to
4:54
Speaker 3: say was for people that are listening to have their
4:58
Speaker 3: pets at home, you you really really should make sure
5:02
Speaker 3: that blankets is probably not the way to go for outside, right,
5:05
Speaker 3: you have straws much much much better.
5:08
Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely.
5:09
Speaker 3: Now I'm going to presume maybe you guys aren't out
5:12
Speaker 3: and about anywhere this weekend or are you.
5:15
Speaker 5: No, we are not. They went up to New Jersey.
5:18
Speaker 5: But other than that, we are staying in the shelter.
5:20
Speaker 3: I can. I can completely understand that. Well, hopefully we'll
5:25
Speaker 3: have everybody back out. I saw on your Facebook page
5:28
Speaker 3: that you're already talking about tuxes and tails, which is
5:30
Speaker 3: not going to be for some time, but you've already
5:32
Speaker 3: get the day that's available on your Facebook page. So
5:35
Speaker 3: hopefully we'll get we'll get this cold weather behind this,
5:37
Speaker 3: and so we'll see what the groundhog does. How's that
5:39
Speaker 3: on Monday, and we'll see if we can snap out
5:42
Speaker 3: of this wonder time. Hey, Alena, I appreciate you being
5:44
Speaker 3: here subbing for Angie today. Thanks a lot, and we
5:46
Speaker 3: will talk soon. Thanks a lot.
5:48
Speaker 5: Thank you.
5:49
Speaker 3: Elena Allen again from the can All Charleston Newman Association
5:53
Speaker 3: with this week's Adopt Me Please put of the week.
5:55
Speaker 3: It's a dog named Buster, and I got Buster's picture
5:58
Speaker 3: posted Dave Allen Radio and face book at dave a
6:00
Speaker 3: seventy on X and also the WCHS Network Facebook page
6:04
Speaker 3: as well. Buster around two years old, about fifty to
6:08
Speaker 3: fifty four to fifty five pounds somewhere in that general vicinity.
6:11
Speaker 3: He is vaccinated, he is neutered, does best with female dogs,
6:16
Speaker 3: loves people, has never met a stranger, and is eligible
6:20
Speaker 3: for fostering as well. Just a beautiful, beautiful dog, big
6:23
Speaker 3: old bushy tail. If you've not yet seen Buster's picture,
6:26
Speaker 3: go over to my Facebook page or the WCCHS Network
6:29
Speaker 3: Facebook page or at dave a seventy on X check
6:32
Speaker 3: Buster out. Let's try to get Buster in a home.
6:34
Speaker 3: And he is a great candidate for fostering too. So again,
6:37
Speaker 3: if you're not in a position to be able to
6:39
Speaker 3: adopt at this time, and I say this every week
6:42
Speaker 3: with the folks at the shelter, there are so many things,
6:45
Speaker 3: in so many ways that you can help out animal shelters,
6:48
Speaker 3: whether it's the one in Canar or Putnam or wherever
6:50
Speaker 3: it is. So many ways you can help out that
6:52
Speaker 3: don't involve necessarily adopting pets. I mean you can make
6:56
Speaker 3: cash donations, you can donate supplies or always in need
7:00
Speaker 3: of food. There are always in need of blankets and
7:02
Speaker 3: old towels and things of that nature. So many different
7:05
Speaker 3: ways that or fostering. As I said, so many different
7:07
Speaker 3: ways that you can help out at the shelter, go,
7:11
Speaker 3: let's try it to get let's try to get Buster
7:13
Speaker 3: a home again. His pictures posted on my social media
7:15
Speaker 3: and also the WCHS Network Facebook page as well. Coming
7:19
Speaker 3: up a little bit later on. You know, I love
7:20
Speaker 3: to talk about food. There's a big food event going
7:22
Speaker 3: on in Charleston. Of course, Restaurant Week is continuing, but
7:25
Speaker 3: this is totally separate to that. This is an event
7:27
Speaker 3: that's going to be happening this afternoon around four point
7:29
Speaker 3: thirty on the east end of Charleston at the Kitty
7:31
Speaker 3: Dooley Center. We're going to talk to the people, so
7:33
Speaker 3: many people behind that coming up also standing by an X,
7:36
Speaker 3: We're going to talk to State Center Aimy Nicole Grady
7:39
Speaker 3: out of the fourth and Winfield basketball coach Travis Tarth.
7:42
Speaker 3: They're both in studio with us today and we'll tell
7:44
Speaker 3: you why they are together. Coming up a little bit

10:48

10:49

10:51

10:53
Speaker 3: Of course he did. I didn't do anything not it's

10:58
Speaker 12: That's true.
10:59
Speaker 3: All right. I want to welcome you. Welcome you both
11:02
Speaker 3: of the show. We do have some serious stuff we
11:05
Speaker 3: want to talk about, but we'll get some fun stuff
11:08
Speaker 3: here a little bit. Senator, I want to start with you.
11:10
Speaker 3: The Senate voted yesterday to make the eighth and Bible
11:14
Speaker 3: available the social studies classrooms fourth, eighth and tenth grades
11:18
Speaker 3: Senate Bill three eighty eight. You can read it for
11:20
Speaker 3: yourself as part of Brad's story wv Metronews dot com.
11:23
Speaker 3: Senator Grady, of course you are education chairwoman and a
11:26
Speaker 3: teacher by trade. Why did you think this was so important?
11:28
Speaker 2: So I was the lead sponsor of this bill, actually, Dave,
11:30
Speaker 2: and so I have two of these Bibles in my
11:32
Speaker 2: classroom in my fourth grade classroom, and the students use
11:36
Speaker 2: it often to look at the very beginning of the Bible.
11:38
Speaker 2: There are a lot of pages that gives some information,
11:40
Speaker 2: some history when it comes to colonial times and during
11:43
Speaker 2: our revolutionary time, and it prompts them really to be
11:46
Speaker 2: interested more in history. And so the eighth and Bible
11:49
Speaker 2: has a significant historical It's significant in our history, and
11:55
Speaker 2: so I think it's really important that we have resources
11:57
Speaker 2: available in our classrooms fourth eighth and tenth grade. Fourth
12:00
Speaker 2: eighth and tenth graders all study us history during that
12:03
Speaker 2: time period, and so the more resources we can give
12:05
Speaker 2: them so that they understand the founding of our nation
12:08
Speaker 2: and the history of it is really important. And so
12:11
Speaker 2: this was important to me because it doesn't it doesn't
12:13
Speaker 2: take any public funds, and so that's one of the
12:15
Speaker 2: misconceptions is that we're going to be spending money on
12:17
Speaker 2: our but we're nations right private donations. We already have
12:20
Speaker 2: organizations that are set up to donate those. In some cases,
12:23
Speaker 2: those organizations have tried to give them to schools for
12:26
Speaker 2: this particular reason, and the schools were kind of like,
12:28
Speaker 2: I don't know if we can take it or not.
12:30
Speaker 2: And this clarifies that you can. Nothing precludes any of
12:34
Speaker 2: these schools from having them already. Okay, So but this
12:38
Speaker 2: bill states in these particular classrooms it has to be
12:40
Speaker 2: there because the resource is available for kids to use.
12:43
Speaker 3: It's but it's not being taught from, no per.
12:46
Speaker 7: Se, No, it's it's it isn't a classroom.
12:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, in the classroom library for a student to choose
12:50
Speaker 2: if they want to, if they want to learn more
12:52
Speaker 2: it is. It's a beautiful book and the history of
12:55
Speaker 2: it is amazing, And so if a child wants to
12:57
Speaker 2: access that as a resource, it's available to them. It
13:00
Speaker 2: doesn't mean the teacher is going to use it. It doesn't
13:02
Speaker 2: mean that the teacher is going to.
13:03
Speaker 7: Teach from it.
13:04
Speaker 2: It does not have any significance in the instruction coming
13:07
Speaker 2: from a teacher in any way. It's just a resource,
13:10
Speaker 2: just like any other kind of historical text or document
13:14
Speaker 2: that we would have to use as a resource for kids.
13:16
Speaker 2: That's it same difference.
13:17
Speaker 3: Does the bill say that it would be just that Bible?
13:20
Speaker 3: And would there be other Bibles that possibly because I
13:23
Speaker 3: know there was some discussion on four with Senator Woeful
13:26
Speaker 3: the Catholic Bible. I mean, is there is that if
13:30
Speaker 3: if others wanted to be placed in there? Is that so?
13:32
Speaker 2: So the bill specifically states the eight K Bible. Okay, However,
13:35
Speaker 2: there is nothing that states that the Catholic Bible cannot
13:38
Speaker 2: be in a classroom for a student to choose from
13:40
Speaker 2: the classroom library. There is nothing that states in any
13:43
Speaker 2: law that says that a classroom cannot have a religious
13:47
Speaker 2: text for a student to choose to read. There's nothing
13:51
Speaker 2: that states that. And so right now you can already
13:54
Speaker 2: have whichever Bible or whatever book that you want to
13:57
Speaker 2: have available to your students.
13:59
Speaker 3: I want to ask you about five sixteen. I know
14:03
Speaker 3: the lead sponsor that is centered TOCUBO, I believe, and
14:05
Speaker 3: that would raise the minimum starting salary for a teacher
14:08
Speaker 3: from a fifty thousand plus an annual two thousand dollars
14:11
Speaker 3: race for all teachers and twelve hundred dollars a month
14:13
Speaker 3: race for mathe and special ed teachers. Your thoughts on them.
14:16
Speaker 2: So we had some really good discussion yesterday about that.
14:19
Speaker 2: One of the main issues we have with teachers, Dave,
14:21
Speaker 2: is that we can't recruit younger teachers and we can't
14:23
Speaker 2: keep them. You know, so a lot of people I
14:26
Speaker 2: don't know if you listened to the discussion yesterday, but
14:28
Speaker 2: there was a lot of concern about, well, what about
14:30
Speaker 2: our more seasoned teachers, what about our teachers that have
14:31
Speaker 2: been there for a while. They're not leaving the retention part.
14:35
Speaker 2: They're not leaving the profession because of the pay. You know,
14:38
Speaker 2: and I've been teaching for nineteen years and so I
14:40
Speaker 2: knew what the pay was getting into it. And they're
14:42
Speaker 2: not leaving because of the pay. They're leaving the profession
14:45
Speaker 2: because of other reasons. Okay, So this was a bill
14:47
Speaker 2: that I felt like was really needed. Here's part of
14:49
Speaker 2: the problem we have is we have our our bordering
14:52
Speaker 2: counties that border other states. We have new teachers coming
14:55
Speaker 2: right out of college and what they're doing is they're
14:57
Speaker 2: applying to positions at in state to get some experience
15:01
Speaker 2: so then they can apply out of state to make
15:02
Speaker 2: a lot more money. And so we want to make
15:04
Speaker 2: sure we are competitive to where we can hold those
15:07
Speaker 2: younger teachers and keep them in West Virginia. That's that's
15:09
Speaker 2: the entire concept of the bill. I think it's a
15:12
Speaker 2: good start. Do I think our more season teachers need
15:14
Speaker 2: to raise two Absolutely, But I think we've got to
15:16
Speaker 2: look at making sure we have people coming into the profession.
15:19
Speaker 3: Senator Ami Nicole Grady's here. Winfield basketball coach Travis tar
15:22
Speaker 3: also here. I mentioned it earlier. A big win last night,
15:26
Speaker 3: but you know, you, you and your kids have been
15:29
Speaker 3: going through a bigger, much bigger battle than basketball with
15:32
Speaker 3: one of with one of your players.
15:34
Speaker 13: Talk about that, yes, sir, So we have a junior,
15:37
Speaker 13: Ty Lockry, whose dad is my head JV coach, my
15:41
Speaker 13: second chair on varsity. Ty has played for me now
15:45
Speaker 13: going into his third year with me. I've coached both
15:47
Speaker 13: of his brothers. His mom serves on my boosters and
15:50
Speaker 13: Ty was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymfoma stage three at the
15:54
Speaker 13: end of December, and so the past month he has
15:59
Speaker 13: been at Cincinnati. Oldren's undergoing chemotherapy. Is really a shock
16:03
Speaker 13: to all of us. And you know he's doing well
16:06
Speaker 13: as of right now. He just went through his second
16:09
Speaker 13: second chemo treatment and they're showing, you know, lyphops, a
16:12
Speaker 13: shrunk spleen, a shrunk down. I talked to him last
16:15
Speaker 13: night after our win. You know, he's the first text
16:17
Speaker 13: message I received, and he's he's feeling better, his spirits
16:23
Speaker 13: are good, has gained a little bit of weight. He's
16:25
Speaker 13: working out every day for about thirty forty five minutes
16:27
Speaker 13: with his dad. And so, you know, the community. What
16:30
Speaker 13: I can really say with with the adversity we've been
16:34
Speaker 13: hit with our basketball teams embraced it to four tie,
16:39
Speaker 13: the community has been and my I SAI community, I
16:42
Speaker 13: mean in the state of West Virginia, the basketball community, coaches,
16:46
Speaker 13: other programs have just been There's been such an outpouring
16:50
Speaker 13: of support for the family, monetarily prayers, phone calls, mills
16:56
Speaker 13: because mary Beth had to step away from work. You know,
16:59
Speaker 13: she's not ocupacional therapist, does birth to three. So she
17:01
Speaker 13: spent her life for children and in her professional life
17:04
Speaker 13: and so she's had stepped back. Mike works for c AMC.
17:06
Speaker 13: They've been very graceful with him to allow him some flexibility.
17:09
Speaker 13: But they still have two other kids in college that
17:13
Speaker 13: are you know, having just gas money back and forth
17:15
Speaker 13: and stuff. Now that comes a little tighter of her strings.
17:18
Speaker 13: And but all in all, you know, the the outpouring
17:22
Speaker 13: that we've had in this community and the support they
17:24
Speaker 13: felt has been second to none. And Tye, like set End,
17:28
Speaker 13: they ties a strong kid. He's going to bounce through this.
17:31
Speaker 3: And you talk about the sense of community, there's no
17:34
Speaker 3: bigger rival for the Winfield Generals than the Hurricane Redskins.
17:37
Speaker 3: And when you guys played a couple of weeks ago,
17:39
Speaker 3: you had both.
17:40
Speaker 13: Teams that the beauty of that is so Dana Walmick,
17:43
Speaker 13: who's the new coach at Hurricane, has been Ty's dad's
17:46
Speaker 13: best friends since high school. And he gave me a
17:50
Speaker 13: phone call when we first got tied when once we
17:53
Speaker 13: found out Ty was diagnosed with Hodgkins and called, he said, I.
17:56
Speaker 12: Don't know what we need to do. We need to
17:58
Speaker 12: do something.
17:58
Speaker 11: Well.
17:58
Speaker 13: Both of our next game after that diagnosis was each other,
18:02
Speaker 13: and so it was like, man, we said, we've got
18:04
Speaker 13: a big platform and Putnam County is going to wake
18:06
Speaker 13: up and this is always the world in thirty four.
18:09
Speaker 12: That's what it's focused on.
18:10
Speaker 13: But it turned into an enormous community prayer circle for
18:14
Speaker 13: the game, airby in.
18:15
Speaker 12: Lockery shirts, a packed house.
18:19
Speaker 13: You know, I can't say enough about coach Wamick. He's
18:21
Speaker 13: just an absolutely top tier guy in that community. It
18:25
Speaker 13: really kicked off the support structure for what we see
18:30
Speaker 13: now for Tye. You know, last night Nitro came into
18:33
Speaker 13: our place and I didn't know, but they're they're wearing
18:36
Speaker 13: ty Lockery shirts when they showed up.
18:37
Speaker 3: The cheerleaders cool. It's awesome, Senator? Is that not the
18:41
Speaker 3: most West Virginia thing ever?
18:42
Speaker 1: Right there?
18:42
Speaker 7: It's amazing?
18:43
Speaker 1: You know.
18:43
Speaker 2: I follow that on social media, and I think I
18:46
Speaker 2: see other teams too, you know, and I think it's
18:48
Speaker 2: I think it's just amazing. It's a sense of our
18:49
Speaker 2: the community we have in West Virginia. Everybody comes together
18:52
Speaker 2: whenever somebody's in need, and I love that about our people.
18:55
Speaker 3: Do you guys play logan this year my alma mater?
18:57
Speaker 12: Yes, we do at home. Okay, four weeks.
19:00
Speaker 3: I will make sure. I mean, I'm sure Hatcher's probably
19:02
Speaker 3: already on it, but I'll make sure that the Cats
19:05
Speaker 3: support it. As they're beating you, I'll.
19:07
Speaker 12: Make I'll make sure you've got a nice win. Fields.
19:10
Speaker 3: That's all right. This sounds good to be all right.
19:11
Speaker 3: I appreciate that. All right. So you guys got some
19:14
Speaker 3: guest here with us as well. A Senator who's this?
19:17
Speaker 2: This is my thirteen year old daughter, Easton, who is
19:19
Speaker 2: also on my basketball team, Dave. So, Okay, I'm sure
19:22
Speaker 2: she's not gonna be honest with you if you ask
19:23
Speaker 2: her her experiences with mom as a coach, so you
19:26
Speaker 2: probably shouldn't.
19:27
Speaker 3: Coach. Who do you have with you here?
19:28
Speaker 12: That's my son Bentley, who as well thirteen year old.
19:31
Speaker 5: Today.
19:31
Speaker 12: Their buddies, all right, I'm dragging them out.
19:34
Speaker 3: Here, all right, So I want to have a little
19:35
Speaker 3: fun with both of you today. Sure you guys, You
19:38
Speaker 3: guys have got this little back and forth going on
19:40
Speaker 3: social media. Uh uh, and let me ask you, first sender,
19:45
Speaker 3: did you get a technical the other name Dave.
19:48
Speaker 2: That's been a few weeks ago, and if you don't
19:50
Speaker 2: have time for me to explain that, but I was right.
19:52
Speaker 2: You don't get a coach of technical when they're right,
19:54
Speaker 2: and so so we won't go there.
19:57
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, that's perfectly, perfectly fine. But uh but
20:01
Speaker 3: so what is it that that you guys been going
20:04
Speaker 3: back and forth? I mean, so you're questioning coach Tar's
20:08
Speaker 3: coaching bill?
20:08
Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, David. I think I think
20:10
Speaker 2: that somebody starts to work with him. I think somebody's
20:13
Speaker 2: name that rhymes with Eric Tar has sped you a line.
20:16
Speaker 2: And so you know, Coach Tarr and I actually are
20:18
Speaker 2: really close friends. And he's actually the only coach that
20:21
Speaker 2: I reach out to whenever I.
20:22
Speaker 7: Want some advice.
20:23
Speaker 3: What do you coach?
20:24
Speaker 7: Would I do a point Pleasant Point Pleasant Junior High?
20:26
Speaker 2: Okay, middle school girls a direly different world than high
20:29
Speaker 2: school boys, and so you know, we have different worlds,
20:33
Speaker 2: different experiences, but it's really fun to share them and
20:36
Speaker 2: get some feedback from each other.
20:38
Speaker 7: That's that's it now.
20:39
Speaker 2: Now we could go back and forth on if you
20:40
Speaker 2: said a hoop out here in the in the parking lot,
20:42
Speaker 2: who would win in a one on one game?
20:44
Speaker 3: We could go back and forth on well, it'd be
20:45
Speaker 3: especially fun right now. So it's ice covered out there,
20:48
Speaker 3: and Travis's age, he really got to watch that break
20:51
Speaker 3: and a hip sort of thing, right, yeah, all right,
20:54
Speaker 3: So what do you think of her as a coach?
20:55
Speaker 12: I think she's done an awesome job.
20:57
Speaker 14: You know.
20:57
Speaker 13: It's it's funny. I've been coaching for a good long
20:59
Speaker 13: time time, and I've known Amy for a good while.
21:01
Speaker 13: And I went and watched her team play last year
21:04
Speaker 13: at Winfield Middle School and sat with Amy and Jack
21:08
Speaker 13: watching And when you have someone that sets and watches
21:12
Speaker 13: as a parent, you get to hear some fun things. Uh,
21:15
Speaker 13: you know, there's a lot of compliments that's given during
21:18
Speaker 13: a game from parents. But with that said, she went
21:22
Speaker 13: into action to fix some of the concerns she had
21:25
Speaker 13: as a coach. And so for me, you know that
21:27
Speaker 13: Amy's not a person to really settled the sideline on anything.
21:29
Speaker 13: If you haven't noticed that, she's I've noticed what's on
21:34
Speaker 13: her minds and comes out of her mouth a lot
21:35
Speaker 13: of times, and and her actions speak And so that's
21:38
Speaker 13: one of the things I ultimately respect out of Amy
21:41
Speaker 13: as a senator, as a person. And so this year,
21:44
Speaker 13: when you watch those girls play, I mean they're they're winning, Uh,
21:48
Speaker 13: they're playing harder the respect. I just spoke with Winfield
21:50
Speaker 13: Middle School's girls coach this morning. He called me to
21:52
Speaker 13: congratulate me on our game yesterday, and I talk a
21:56
Speaker 13: lot with him, and one of the first things he says,
21:58
Speaker 13: you know, we've got tournament coming up, or be he
22:01
Speaker 13: tearyew point pleasant or logan, and first saying he does,
22:03
Speaker 13: echo how good of a job Amy's doing with the girls.
22:06
Speaker 13: And so the basketball community you're small, you know in
22:10
Speaker 13: regards to our state. I think it's cool that I
22:11
Speaker 13: get have a relationship with you know, our all of
22:15
Speaker 13: our coaches within our program at Winfield within the community
22:18
Speaker 13: and adjacently throughout you know, our state, with such as Amy.
22:22
Speaker 3: Talking to Winfield Basketball boys basketball coach Travis Tar and
22:25
Speaker 3: Senator Amy Nicole Great Eve Dave Allen Show on five
22:27
Speaker 3: ety Live brought to you in part by Pinnacle Consultants.
22:30
Speaker 3: They're hiring. They have two positions available for field technicians.
22:33
Speaker 3: Experience isn't required, but would be helpful if it's a
22:35
Speaker 3: Pinnacle Court dot Net. For more information call or call
22:38
Speaker 3: three zero four seven five seven five two zero four
22:41
Speaker 3: Pinnacle Consultants. What you don't know can hurt you, all right,
22:43
Speaker 3: So I gotta get something here. Because when I had
22:45
Speaker 3: had your brother, Senator Tar on the show a couple
22:47
Speaker 3: of days ago, Travis, he tells me, he said, what
22:49
Speaker 3: would be really fun is if you got Senator Grady
22:53
Speaker 3: and you got my brother you Travis in studio here
22:55
Speaker 3: and have them kind of go back and forth with
22:57
Speaker 3: each other, so we kind of give me something to
23:00
Speaker 3: work with.
23:01
Speaker 12: Come on, So where's my brother and all this?
23:02
Speaker 3: That's his question right in the middle, He's sitting in
23:06
Speaker 3: his office at the capitols into the whole thing.
23:09
Speaker 13: On The entertaining part would be having Eric here in
23:12
Speaker 13: us talking basketball theory.
23:14
Speaker 3: Okay, that would be the letaining part. Okay, how would
23:16
Speaker 3: that conversation go?
23:17
Speaker 13: Oh so funny enough. My first basketball game, I coached
23:22
Speaker 13: at varsity level in the state of West Virginia. I've
23:24
Speaker 13: done some coaching back in Kentucky before I moved here.
23:28
Speaker 13: And Eric set first chair to meuse I didn't have
23:30
Speaker 13: an assistant, so I asked him. I said, hey, I
23:32
Speaker 13: can't have an empty chair and look lonely, so you come,
23:34
Speaker 13: come sit next to me. So he says, next to
23:36
Speaker 13: me at the clipboard. And when I went to Winfield.
23:39
Speaker 13: You know, my brother and I support each other. It
23:42
Speaker 13: it doesn't matter what we're doing. I mean, we're neighbors,
23:44
Speaker 13: we're business partners, you know. In the political world, where
23:48
Speaker 13: I can stay in the shadows of I'm I'm always in.
23:52
Speaker 12: I'm always behind.
23:53
Speaker 13: Him in regardless of you know, running freeofice right now
23:56
Speaker 13: if you announced his re election campaign. And so he's
24:00
Speaker 13: always when I'm in my coaching helmet, you know, and
24:04
Speaker 13: he's always in my corner. And my very first game
24:06
Speaker 13: at Winfield, he drove to North Marion out of nowhere
24:08
Speaker 13: and he's sitting right behind my bench. I didn't know
24:10
Speaker 13: he was coming, you know, and so there's always the
24:13
Speaker 13: support with us. And then you can see he's throwing
24:15
Speaker 13: me into a fire here with you after. I was
24:19
Speaker 13: really hoping for like a Jerry Springer type. I really
24:22
Speaker 13: wanted chairs flying and that sort of thing.
24:23
Speaker 7: You know, me, I don't even throw chairs days.
24:26
Speaker 12: So he just screams at officials and get.
24:29
Speaker 3: The how did you get to I'm sorry, how did
24:32
Speaker 3: you get the technical if you didn't throw a chair?
24:34
Speaker 2: So if you want the story, I want the story.
24:37
Speaker 2: Story with Wayne Ryan of the s S A C.
24:40
Speaker 2: The director, He came in my office the other day
24:42
Speaker 2: and that was his first question. You got a technical one.
24:44
Speaker 2: I said, listen, I'm tired of this.
24:46
Speaker 13: I need to make a small statement before the starts.
24:48
Speaker 13: I have no part of this. To our officials out
24:51
Speaker 13: there in special Land, I love you all. You guys
24:53
Speaker 13: do an incredible job. It's a hard job. I appreciate
24:57
Speaker 13: everything you do, especially when you come to Winfield get
24:59
Speaker 13: your little treat baskets.
25:00
Speaker 15: You know.
25:00
Speaker 2: We're so now now let's go to yeah and my
25:05
Speaker 2: technical technical So.
25:07
Speaker 3: I'll tell you this. We were talking about, you know,
25:09
Speaker 3: wearing winter boots. After that, I need my boots on
25:13
Speaker 3: right now, that's exactly right. Go upstairs to get my
25:15
Speaker 3: boots out of the office to go ahead, sir.
25:16
Speaker 2: Well before I want to say, my girls are gritty,
25:19
Speaker 2: you know that they they play with so much fire
25:22
Speaker 2: every single game, and so when I feel like they're
25:25
Speaker 2: being treated unfairly, it lights me up because I get
25:27
Speaker 2: I get fired up. And so we were at Ripley.
25:31
Speaker 2: No offense to Ripley. I love my Ripley people, but
25:33
Speaker 2: it's hard to win there sometimes, you know, I mean,
25:34
Speaker 2: that's a the atmosphere is always really really high. We
25:37
Speaker 2: we had We were in a game and their point
25:41
Speaker 2: guard brings to the ball across half court. Our guard
25:44
Speaker 2: knocks the ball out of her handball goes rolling over shooting.
25:46
Speaker 2: Their shooting guard picks it up, proceeds to pass it
25:48
Speaker 2: back to their point guard, who is now back court.
25:50
Speaker 7: Okay, so the calling basketball is that's over and back.
25:53
Speaker 2: But because their middle school girls and they get confused
25:55
Speaker 2: pretty easily, their point guard decided to go ahead and
25:57
Speaker 2: set up their offense on our basket. They went off direction,
26:00
Speaker 2: set up their offense. My team goes back and they're
26:02
Speaker 2: trying to play defense. We're all yelling that's.
26:04
Speaker 7: Over and back.
26:04
Speaker 2: That's over and back. The referees on the other side
26:06
Speaker 2: of the court. He's letting them set up their offense,
26:09
Speaker 2: and they went through five passes.
26:10
Speaker 7: So I walk up to half.
26:12
Speaker 2: Court and walk across and I'm yelling. By this time,
26:14
Speaker 2: the gym is completely quiet because they see that. I'm yeah,
26:17
Speaker 2: And I said, you know, that's not their basket, that's
26:20
Speaker 2: our basket.
26:20
Speaker 7: How do you not know that? That's your job?
26:22
Speaker 2: And he gave me a technical and then I said,
26:24
Speaker 2: you can't give me a technical if I'm right, and
26:26
Speaker 2: then I walked off.
26:26
Speaker 7: That was it in the story. So it was and
26:30
Speaker 7: and it was. It was crazy, but he just maybe
26:32
Speaker 7: he just had a bad night. So I'll give him that.
26:35
Speaker 3: All right, But but better put the exclamation put in this, like,
26:38
Speaker 3: coach to our set, set.
26:42
Speaker 7: Have a really rough job. And we have a We
26:44
Speaker 7: have a game tomorrow against the Logan timber Wolves.
26:46
Speaker 3: All right, Logan Middle Schools.
26:48
Speaker 2: At Point Pleasant. We're one on one with them this year.
26:50
Speaker 2: So they beat us one game. We just beat them
26:52
Speaker 2: last week at Logan and so it'll be a good,
26:54
Speaker 2: pretty good game.
26:54
Speaker 3: How's what kind of team Slogan have?
26:56
Speaker 16: That?
26:56
Speaker 2: Then, followed, and they grow them differently down there. Damon,
26:59
Speaker 2: they're they're yeah, they really are. I mean they're tall.
27:02
Speaker 2: I'm talking about I'm talking about six six foot tall
27:05
Speaker 2: seventh and eighth graders. I mean they're really strong and athletic.
27:08
Speaker 3: And because they're all thirty seven years old. Oh no,
27:11
Speaker 3: I'm sorry. That's Mingo County. That's Mingo, That's that's Thug
27:15
Speaker 3: Valley we're talking about. That's not now. I'm in trouble. Now,
27:18
Speaker 3: I'm in trouble. You are, And you know, speaking to
27:20
Speaker 3: Point Pleasant, I actually used to live in Point Pleasant.
27:22
Speaker 3: Point Pleasant. My first my first full time job in
27:26
Speaker 3: radio was at the radio station in Gallipolice, Ohio, and
27:28
Speaker 3: I lived writing Point Pleasant, wonderful place to live. Yes,
27:31
Speaker 3: it is, I enjoy It's.
27:32
Speaker 7: Moth Man country. You ever come to Mofman Festival.
27:34
Speaker 3: They didn't even have a Mopamare infestional And I was
27:36
Speaker 3: there when I was up there, Senator, they the people,
27:40
Speaker 3: a lot of the people didn't even want to talk
27:41
Speaker 3: about Mothman uh. And it was a weird thing because
27:44
Speaker 3: I remember they were talking about bringing people into town
27:47
Speaker 3: and I'm I'm a young I'm in the news I'm
27:48
Speaker 3: a young reporter and I'm up there covering like a
27:51
Speaker 3: I don't know, a Mason County commission meeting or maybe
27:54
Speaker 3: something like that, the Point Pleasant City Council. And I'm
27:57
Speaker 3: just sitting there thinking, why don't you all try to camp.
28:00
Speaker 3: I'm twenty one years old and I'm right out of college.
28:01
Speaker 3: I'm sitting there thinking, why don't you guys trying to
28:03
Speaker 3: capitalize this? And they were like, no, no, that makes
28:05
Speaker 3: us look backwoods. Well look what it's become now. I mean,
28:08
Speaker 3: I've interviewed the mayor and Commissioner. Handley's a regular on midday.
28:12
Speaker 3: They've really grown something up there.
28:14
Speaker 8: They have.
28:14
Speaker 2: And I'm telling you, what is the best people watching
28:16
Speaker 2: festival you will ever beat?
28:17
Speaker 3: Love.
28:18
Speaker 2: I mean people from Ireland to England. We meet people
28:20
Speaker 2: from all over the world that comes specifically for that festival.
28:22
Speaker 7: It's amazing.
28:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, right, you were kind of rolling your eyes, but
28:25
Speaker 3: she was rolling rolling her eyes at you about Mothman.
28:28
Speaker 12: We had a Mothman conversation.
28:30
Speaker 7: We have several months, right conversations.
28:32
Speaker 13: Yes, Henry, I can't remember what started the conversation, but
28:37
Speaker 13: she's adamant about this Mothman process. And we got then
28:39
Speaker 13: we got to talking about Chief Cornstock.
28:41
Speaker 7: Okay, I didn't say the mothman was real. Track, Yes
28:43
Speaker 7: she did, you did. No, Actually, I aren't with my
28:46
Speaker 7: fourth grader's about this all the time. Mothman is not real.
28:48
Speaker 7: It's a bell.
28:49
Speaker 3: Ryan. Can you get a sound effect of a bell?
28:51
Speaker 7: I do remember what our conversation was.
28:52
Speaker 2: We were talking about Chief Cornstock and how he put
28:54
Speaker 2: a curse on the land for two hundred years. And
28:56
Speaker 2: you said, was the mothman part of that curse? And
28:58
Speaker 2: I said, the mothman is not real, Travis, And you said,
29:04
Speaker 2: now you're getting.
29:04
Speaker 3: It, David, Right now, we're getting it. Now we're getting
29:07
Speaker 3: to the good stuff. What do you think about all this,
29:09
Speaker 3: young lady, Come on, come in here, just say something
29:11
Speaker 3: to us. Come on, you got a microphone right in
29:12
Speaker 3: front of you there, go ahead, We'll say you got
29:15
Speaker 3: to say something. Come on, talk about your mom as
29:17
Speaker 3: a coach. Talk about what a great mother she is.
29:19
Speaker 3: She may buy you a car someday, you know.
29:20
Speaker 4: So, Yeah, I don't think it's a very good idea
29:24
Speaker 4: for me to talk about my mom right now with
29:26
Speaker 4: her right beside me, especially with her coaching abilities.
29:29
Speaker 7: Okay, I'm not saying she's a bad coach.
29:31
Speaker 3: What's wrong with her coaching? This is this is the
29:37
Speaker 3: teacher coming out of here, because what this is what
29:39
Speaker 3: I used to hear all the time up to the board,
29:41
Speaker 3: you know, back in the corner. Put your desk right
29:43
Speaker 3: up here. I just thought that every year my desk
29:45
Speaker 3: was by the teacher's desk. I just I thought I
29:47
Speaker 3: thought she liked me. I thought she liked me. All right,
29:50
Speaker 3: so you guys play next coach.
29:52
Speaker 13: So tomorrow we go to Wayne and play in the
29:55
Speaker 13: Strong Still Strong Cancer. Actually it's a cancer event with
29:59
Speaker 13: Sean Medding, who's the coach at Wayne. I think it
30:02
Speaker 13: was his nephew passed away of cancer, three four year
30:05
Speaker 13: old child, and so they're having their first event. We
30:07
Speaker 13: played Saint Joe at three fifteen tomorrow. Then we got
30:10
Speaker 13: Lincoln County coming in Tuesday, and so it's, uh, we're
30:15
Speaker 13: in a grind man. We got uh we scheduled light
30:18
Speaker 13: first of the year and going into February, we got
30:22
Speaker 13: two to three games every week going.
30:23
Speaker 3: In and before we close. Coach, I don't want to
30:26
Speaker 3: I've had fun with the whole controversy between you there.
30:28
Speaker 3: There really is none. I've just kind of studied your brother. Brother,
30:31
Speaker 3: it's my brother. It's always your brother.
30:33
Speaker 4: Uh.
30:33
Speaker 3: But but I do want to say this, you pride
30:35
Speaker 3: yourself is a Winfield coach on on Winfield kids.
30:38
Speaker 13: I do absolutely talk about that. We the Winfield community is.
30:43
Speaker 13: It's a tight, tight community. And when I when I
30:48
Speaker 13: first came into Winfield, you know, I was coaching on
30:50
Speaker 13: the national circuit for several years prior to coming to Winfield.
30:54
Speaker 13: And when we when COVID hit, we closed our prep
30:56
Speaker 13: program because it couldn't get host families and such with
30:59
Speaker 13: their national students. And so I started coaching Bentley's youth
31:02
Speaker 13: team and spent a year in youth league, which is
31:05
Speaker 13: actually a godsend because I got to know a lot
31:07
Speaker 13: of the other youth coaches and such. The went to
31:11
Speaker 13: volunteer at the middle school. To make a very brief story,
31:14
Speaker 13: with Mike Lockery, who is Tie's dad, I went in
31:17
Speaker 13: and said, can I volunteer? I just want to be
31:18
Speaker 13: back in the game a little bit. Because during a
31:20
Speaker 13: dead period with that happening, Winfield's job opened up at
31:25
Speaker 13: twelve hour on a late October on late October night, really,
31:30
Speaker 13: and so I applied for the job. Ended up getting
31:32
Speaker 13: it because of relationships. I went back and started working
31:35
Speaker 13: in the youth league really aggressively. Coach Beller got hired
31:38
Speaker 13: as a middle school coach because Mike Lockry had stepped
31:40
Speaker 13: up to the high school and so we were able
31:42
Speaker 13: to start layering our program. So our kids in youth
31:46
Speaker 13: league are running a lot of our concepts that we
31:48
Speaker 13: run through varsity level. Now, the kids I have that
31:51
Speaker 13: took the court last night, they're all Winfield kids. They're
31:54
Speaker 13: all they've all played at Winfilddle School, They've came through
31:57
Speaker 13: the Winfield Youth League. It is stacked that way, you know.
32:00
Speaker 13: And so in an air where players just jump back
32:03
Speaker 13: and forth in zigzaggle over the state in mid season
32:06
Speaker 13: even you know, I'm proud of the what we have
32:10
Speaker 13: going on Winfield where people truly it means something to
32:12
Speaker 13: put Winfield, Jersey onto these kids and you see it
32:15
Speaker 13: when they play. I've got the artist playing team I
32:16
Speaker 13: think in the state, Like these kids lay everything on
32:19
Speaker 13: the line every night for me.
32:20
Speaker 12: They practice this way.
32:22
Speaker 13: It's because there's a different pride factor I fl to them.
32:24
Speaker 13: And you know, we play a lot of good teams
32:26
Speaker 13: in the area. There's a ton of great basketball, especially
32:28
Speaker 13: in Triple A. Triple is absolutely loaded, our regions loaded.
32:31
Speaker 13: But I never have to beg our kids for effort.
32:33
Speaker 13: And you know, they're starting to play well together, and
32:35
Speaker 13: I think that's a compliment really to them staying through
32:38
Speaker 13: process since we started, uh you know, started stacking the middle.
32:42
Speaker 3: School youth league such Winfield coach Travis Tarr and Bentley
32:46
Speaker 3: appreciate you being here. And Senator Amy Nicole Grady, You've
32:49

32:50

32:53
Speaker 3: heard you r.

32:56
Speaker 7: I do. I have some work to do today.

36:26
Speaker 15: Good morning, thank you for having me.
36:28
Speaker 3: And Lisha gre great to have you here as well.
36:30
Speaker 7: Good morning.
36:31
Speaker 3: All right, So it's called feed and seed, right, and
36:33
Speaker 3: if I get any of this wrong. We'll blame Mark Curtis,
36:35
Speaker 3: our good friend, because he's a kind of kind of
36:37
Speaker 3: guy that including mispronouncing Lisha's name. By the way, Mark,
36:40
Speaker 3: if you're listening, that's not how she pronounces her name anyway.
36:44
Speaker 3: It's called Feed and Seed, presented by Harvest. Tell us,
36:47
Speaker 3: either one of you just jump in and just tell
36:49
Speaker 3: us about what's going to happen to It's at four thirty,
36:51
Speaker 3: right four thirty at four to twelve Elizabeth Street. That's
36:54
Speaker 3: the YWCA Charleston, Catherine Kitty Dooley Center for Community Richmond.
36:59
Speaker 3: Talk about either one of you jump and talk about
37:01
Speaker 3: this a bit.
37:02
Speaker 15: Okay, Well, it's hosted by Harvest and in collaboration with
37:05
Speaker 15: a couple of other organizations like My Urban Farm in
37:09
Speaker 15: and Mace Meadow as well as Alicia's Unity Sisters Farms.
37:13
Speaker 15: What we're going to do is actually interact with the
37:16
Speaker 15: people who show up and discuss with them different ways
37:19
Speaker 15: that they can get involved in agriculture, small or large,
37:23
Speaker 15: whether you're gardening at home, gardening on a larger scale,
37:27
Speaker 15: or farming. We'll be giving you information about how you
37:30
Speaker 15: can get involved in those things. Things you can plant
37:33
Speaker 15: at home, things you can grow and how agriculture and
37:36
Speaker 15: farming just as a benefit to yourself, the community, our
37:40
Speaker 15: families in West Virginia.
37:41
Speaker 11: As a whole.
37:42
Speaker 3: Lisa talk about you're involvement in this. How did you
37:44
Speaker 3: guys get involved in this?
37:46
Speaker 10: We actually started growing and we actually became very good
37:51
Speaker 10: at it. So right now we're actually focused on teaching
37:54
Speaker 10: other people to grow so that they can sustain food
37:57
Speaker 10: for their families.
37:58
Speaker 3: Why is so important?
38:00
Speaker 10: It's really definitely a passion. We have food deserts here,
38:04
Speaker 10: so it's definitely important for us to grow and to
38:07
Speaker 10: teach other people how to grow.
38:10
Speaker 3: And you would think, guys, with it being West Virginia,
38:13
Speaker 3: because we you know, traditionally have been a gardening state,
38:16
Speaker 3: agriculture state, you know whatever, you would think you wouldn't
38:18
Speaker 3: have to teach people the importance of this. But I guess,
38:20
Speaker 3: you know, as generations have come and gone and then
38:23
Speaker 3: we just keep going through the passage of time, everybody
38:25
Speaker 3: thinks everything comes from Kroger. Yeah, and there's no other
38:28
Speaker 3: role with Kroger, don't get me wrong, But that's not
38:29
Speaker 3: where everything comes from.
38:31
Speaker 15: That is it actually Just about two generations ago, every
38:34
Speaker 15: house just about had a garden that supplemented their household.
38:38
Speaker 15: And if you think about Kroger just a week or
38:40
Speaker 15: so ago, the shelves were empty.
38:42
Speaker 7: Yes, people were concerned with the winter storm.
38:45
Speaker 15: So that just indicates to you how quickly that our
38:48
Speaker 15: food supply can be affected by just about anything, and
38:51
Speaker 15: how quickly it can be depleted. So it's super important
38:53
Speaker 15: that we do not be that we are no longer
38:55
Speaker 15: completely dependent on outside sources for our food. And it's
38:59
Speaker 15: also important that our children know where food comes from.
39:01
Speaker 15: They don't know that food comes from the ground. It
39:03
Speaker 15: comes from a tree, it comes from a bush, like
39:05
Speaker 15: they think it comes from Croger.
39:08
Speaker 3: Somebody's in the back building it. Well, in some cases
39:11
Speaker 3: with some of the processed foods, they might.
39:12
Speaker 10: Be okay, right, And at unity sister's farms, we have
39:16
Speaker 10: chickens and eggs. So now are my kids and other
39:20
Speaker 10: kids can see that eds come from actually chickens and
39:24
Speaker 10: not the store.
39:25
Speaker 7: Right.
39:25
Speaker 3: Talk about you because your mom and you just mentioned
39:27
Speaker 3: about your kids. Talk about the messages that you try
39:31
Speaker 3: to impart in them on how on why this is
39:33
Speaker 3: so important?
39:34
Speaker 10: Yes, So my youngest is two years old, so she
39:37
Speaker 10: started in us eating fresh vegetables from the garden. So
39:41
Speaker 10: that was really important for me to teach her basically
39:43
Speaker 10: where it's coming from, that it's fresh, and that her
39:48
Speaker 10: mom is basically teaching her these values that have seemed
39:52
Speaker 10: like they disappeared a little bit with technology. Everything's so fast,
39:58
Speaker 10: I feel like we have to teach kids how to
40:00
Speaker 10: be patient and to grow.
40:02
Speaker 3: Indeed, and this event is going to be at four
40:05
Speaker 3: thirty this afternoon, right and it's absolutely free of charge.
40:09
Speaker 3: Who are you hoping it shows up to this?
40:11
Speaker 15: We hope that it's just everyday people. We hope it's
40:14
Speaker 15: the mom, it's the dad. We hope maybe they bring
40:17
Speaker 15: their kids if they can, so that they can all experience.
40:19
Speaker 15: We want families to come so they can know that
40:21
Speaker 15: this is a tatable This is not a thing that's
40:23
Speaker 15: out of reach. You don't have to have a green thumb.
40:25
Speaker 15: You just have to be willing to try. You have
40:27
Speaker 15: to be willing to just take the chance in know
40:30
Speaker 15: that you may or may not grow the thing, because
40:33
Speaker 15: that's the way nature works. But we're here to give
40:35
Speaker 15: you the tools to give you the best chance.
40:37
Speaker 3: And then when I talk to a lot of folks
40:40
Speaker 3: that do this sort of thing, and there's a certain
40:42
Speaker 3: kind of I guess, pride in that, no matter what
40:46
Speaker 3: your age is, is like, hey, I grew that. What
40:49
Speaker 3: we're eating for dinner when I'm snacking on, I grew that.
40:52
Speaker 3: And I've seen and I've talked to people like Darrell Miller,
40:57
Speaker 3: for example, I've talked to him several times on the
40:58
Speaker 3: air about things like that. Brought that up about there's
41:01
Speaker 3: just something about that when that light bulb goes off
41:05
Speaker 3: and they realized it didn't come from a device, it
41:07
Speaker 3: didn't come you didn't into comfort that I actually grew that.
41:10
Speaker 3: I did the work and that's mine. There's a kind
41:14
Speaker 3: of a pride that comes from that shmir There.
41:15
Speaker 15: Is a sense of empowerment really to know that you
41:18
Speaker 15: have that control, that level of control in your life
41:21
Speaker 15: and you have that ability to sustain yourself or to
41:24
Speaker 15: provide something that's beneficial for you or your family. When
41:27
Speaker 15: you put something to the ground, a seat in the ground,
41:29
Speaker 15: you watch that thing grow, you tend to it, you
41:31
Speaker 15: harvest it, you cook it, you put on the plate
41:33
Speaker 15: and you eat it. There's something that's like so magical amount.
41:37
Speaker 3: And then you want to go do it again. Yeah again,
41:39
Speaker 3: And I can I can grow those cucumbers bigger, I.
41:41
Speaker 7: Can taste better.
41:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's better for you, and so it's a lot
41:45
Speaker 3: better for you. It's a lot better for you. The
41:46
Speaker 3: event is at four thirty this afternoon. Again, it's at
41:49
Speaker 3: four to twelve Elizabeth Straight that's the y w C
41:51
Speaker 3: A Charleston, Kathrie Catherine, Kitty Dooley Center for Community in Richmond.
41:55
Speaker 3: Shamir Davis and Alicia panell I appreciate you both being here.
41:58
Speaker 3: Please come back again. Have you on the show to
42:01
Speaker 3: talk about this and other range because I know you
42:02
Speaker 3: probably get plenty. Is there a you guys have us
42:04
Speaker 3: like social media page or websters or something people could learn?
42:07

42:08
Speaker 15: Yeah, absolutely. You can find us on social media. The
42:10
Speaker 15: name of my urban farm is me or May's Meadow.

Speaker 15: page Shamir Davis. There are plenty of ways to support us.

42:25

42:29
Speaker 3: All right, good luck with your event today. Appreciate both
42:31
Speaker 3: of you for being here. Thanks a lot ten minutes
42:33
Speaker 3: away from ten. We'll take a break coming back after
42:35
Speaker 3: this on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.
42:38
Speaker 10: Thank you.
42:38
Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Eric Jtar Family Businesses. Eric

Speaker 19: I'm John Morgan of Morgan and Morgan. I am often
44:18
Speaker 19: asked what is the value of my case? The answer,
44:21
Speaker 19: of course, depends on your injuries, liability and the damage
44:24
Speaker 19: is to you financially, and it also very much depends
44:27
Speaker 19: on the law firm you hire to represent you. All
44:29
Speaker 19: firms are not the same. For over thirty years, Morgan
44:32
Speaker 19: and Morgan has been here at your time of need,
44:34

Speaker 3: a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles and beyond the State. Check
45:15
Speaker 3: avalated episodes wv metronews dot com. Under the podcast menu,
45:19
Speaker 3: text says a friend made forty eight thousand dollars in
45:21
Speaker 3: twenty twenty four in the State Historic Preservation Office, twelve
45:24
Speaker 3: months masters and fifteen or fifteen or twenty years of service,
45:29
Speaker 3: and they want to pay fifty thousand dollars to bachelor
45:32
Speaker 3: teachers for nine months. As a Texter, Texas I told
45:37
Speaker 3: my history students that their religion or lack of it,
45:40
Speaker 3: was irrelevant in studying the colonial period because they believed
45:43
Speaker 3: and that belief influenced their actions and the founding documents.
45:48
Speaker 3: They believe then, and that doesn't change two hundred and
45:51
Speaker 3: fifty years later, says a Tanxster, Texas Day. The eighth
45:57
Speaker 3: and Bible wasn't part of my family's history in the US,
46:01
Speaker 3: and we've been here for four hundred years. How about
46:03
Speaker 3: the Jerusalem Bible or the Torah or the Quran. The
46:06
Speaker 3: government needs to stop pushing their religious history into our children.
46:10
Speaker 3: They can teach whatever Bible they want after school. My
46:13
Speaker 3: Jewish friends went to Hebrews School after school. They even
46:16
Speaker 3: paid for their own buses. Nothing is stopping our religious
46:18
Speaker 3: friends from doing the same. Heck, there are enough churches
46:21
Speaker 3: around every school in America and plenty of private religious
46:24
Speaker 3: schools where they can teach the aking Bible if they choose.
46:27
Speaker 3: Just stop legislating it for all our children. Focus on
46:30
Speaker 3: funding and maybe we could afford to have every book
46:32
Speaker 3: in our classrooms and school libraries. I mean, when people
46:35
Speaker 3: are trying to ban books by Tony Morrison in our schools,
46:37
Speaker 3: there is no constitutional reason to dictate we have Bibles
46:41
Speaker 3: in our classrooms, and for an educator who claims to
46:43
Speaker 3: teach history, she really doesn't understand our own say as
46:46
Speaker 3: a texture, Texas stopped the culture Wars Texas. West Virginia
46:53
Speaker 3: has more than eighteen thousand, seven hundred and fifty teachers
46:57
Speaker 3: in the state. Senunder Grady just won in nineteen years
47:00
Speaker 3: as a teacher. Ain't that impressive? Should shouldn't she be
47:03
Speaker 3: at school teaching this morning. I don't think we pay
47:05
Speaker 3: her a campaign on the radio. Okay, A couple things here.
47:07
Speaker 3: Number One, Senator Grady is a state senator and she
47:12
Speaker 3: is right down the street from the Capitol where she's
47:14
Speaker 3: heading as soon as she leaves here. That's why we
47:16
Speaker 3: had to have her out of here, so she's on
47:17
Speaker 3: leave from school to be able to do it. Number Two,
47:20
Speaker 3: she wasn't campaigning at all. Number three, it is a
47:24
Speaker 3: remote learning day in all fifty. I'm presuming it is
47:27
Speaker 3: in Mason County because it is everywhere else. So just
47:30
Speaker 3: make sure we get that. Make that taken care of
47:34
Speaker 3: Texas TWU tars Capito and Grady on this week. How
47:36
Speaker 3: about a little balanced from the other side of the
47:38
Speaker 3: aisle and other counties than Putnam.
47:41
Speaker 17: Well.
47:41
Speaker 3: Senator Capito has not been on the show this week.
47:45
Speaker 3: Eric Tarr has Travis Tar's brother, has Senator Grady have
47:48
Speaker 3: been on. I've been ever since I started doing the show,
47:51
Speaker 3: going back I started in May of twenty twenty doing
47:54
Speaker 3: this show. I've never turned down anybody to be on
47:58
Speaker 3: this show, and I appreciate the text. But I have
48:00
Speaker 3: also had people that screaming, holy, you know what, the
48:06
Speaker 3: fact that I have so many Democrats on the show.
48:09
Speaker 3: So I guess you just can't please everybody. But this
48:14
Speaker 3: show has always been an open for him, for anybody.
48:18
Speaker 3: There have been people who have criticized me for having
48:22
Speaker 3: people like Don Blankenship on the show. Mister Blankenship is
48:25
Speaker 3: always welcome on the show. There have been people that
48:27
Speaker 3: have criticized me for having Greg Thomas on the show,
48:29
Speaker 3: that for having Mike Pushkin on the show. So it's
48:32
Speaker 3: open for him here.
48:33
Speaker 14: Man.
48:33
Speaker 3: The only bad thing about this show is the host.
48:36
Speaker 3: All Right. Texts is uh prayers for coaching legend West
48:45
Speaker 3: Virginia native and one of the last god fearing true
48:47
Speaker 3: gentleman Lou Holtz, who was admitted the hospice Carreity yesterday,
48:51
Speaker 3: I did not know that. I appreciate the text Texas
48:55
Speaker 3: Winfield Youth sounds like Coach Aker's and Logan's program back
48:58
Speaker 3: in the day. Text says you're such a great sport.
49:01
Speaker 3: Question mark Dave Allen for governor. No no, no, no, no, no,
49:06
Speaker 3: no no no. Appreciate it though texts. By the way,
49:11
Speaker 3: that text came for the person that was criticizing me,
49:12
Speaker 3: And that's what I love about this show. That's one
49:15
Speaker 3: of the things I love about that and my listeners
49:17
Speaker 3: after this person and when you text the show, I
49:19
Speaker 3: have no idea who they are. They text the show
49:22
Speaker 3: and they criticized me for something, then they say you're
49:24
Speaker 3: such a good sport and they want to vote for
49:25
Speaker 3: me for governor. I love that. Appreciate the text, and
49:28
Speaker 3: truly appreciate all of the textures to the show here,
49:31
Speaker 3: except for the one yesterday on Metro News Midday who
49:33
Speaker 3: referred to me as a moron because I said that
49:36
Speaker 3: it was going to get colder this weekend and then
49:38
Speaker 3: called me to task to say that it was going
49:41
Speaker 3: to get warmer this weekend, when in fact, Saturday tomorrow
49:44
Speaker 3: is going to be the coldest day of the year.
49:46
Speaker 11: So far.
49:46
Speaker 3: I'm not sure where that Texter got their information, but
49:49
Speaker 3: simply not true. Metro News Midday coming up at noon today.
49:52
Speaker 3: No Amanda Baron. She will be back with us on Monday.
49:55
Speaker 3: So I am flying solo today. Friday means we introduce
49:58
Speaker 3: you to another great eatery around the state of West Virginia.
50:02
Speaker 3: Of a lunchpont segment. Of course, we have your weekend
50:03
Speaker 3: sports with Daniel Woods will take care of that and
50:06
Speaker 3: Jeff Jenkins will have the news. TJ. Meadows we'll stop
50:08
Speaker 3: by mentioned earlier. Wayne Ryan, executive director of the SSAC,
50:12
Speaker 3: will be on the show today. Mark Curtis will join
50:13
Speaker 3: us with political commentary. Tomorrow's the deadline if you're planning
50:17
Speaker 3: to run for office at the May primary. West Virginia
50:21
Speaker 3: Secretary Stick Chris Warner is going to join us to
50:23
Speaker 3: talk about that. Plus we'll get the open line. West

50:39
Speaker 3: anybody that's got criticism, praise, whatever for the mayor, she
50:42
Speaker 3: comes in and she takes it, and she'll be here
50:44
Speaker 3: on Monday. Also, former Charleston Mayor Danny Jones will stop buying.
50:48

50:53
Speaker 3: Texas Capitol was on with TJ and the other day. Yes, yes,
50:57
Speaker 3: she was on with us on midday last week. Texas
50:59
Speaker 3: and Amanda Baron for governor? Okay, all right? Want I
51:03
Speaker 3: vote for Amanda for governor? I don't know what you know.
51:08
Speaker 3: Here's the thing. TJ. Mann and I have been friends
51:10
Speaker 3: for twenty years. I don't even know what her political
51:12
Speaker 3: affiliation is because we don't talk about it and good
51:15
Speaker 3: and I'm a registered independent. So unless she's running for judge,
51:19
Speaker 3: I may not be able to vote for Amanda Baron.
51:21
Speaker 3: It only gets better from here. I like it, Amanda Baron.
51:25
