- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists.
- 0:07Speaker 1: This week, we're flipping, we're falling, we're kicking, and you
- 0:11Speaker 1: better believe we're screaming. Uh. This is Stunt Performers Week
- 0:15Speaker 1: at aaaay Away.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Stunt performers are some of the unsung heroes of Hollywood.
- 0:21Speaker 2: While the actors are sitting in their trailers, the stunt
- 0:24Speaker 2: performers are ripping their bodies up for that cinema.
- 0:29Speaker 3: So let's strap up, find our marks, do a safety
- 0:32Speaker 3: run and listen in.
- 0:38Speaker 4: How's everybody doing?
- 0:40Speaker 5: Fine?
- 0:40Speaker 6: Yeah? Good, good it awesome? Yeah awesome.
- 0:44Speaker 7: Wow.
- 0:44Speaker 3: We're from all different parts of this industry. We should
- 0:47Speaker 3: all go around. This is incredible.
- 0:49Speaker 6: It's kind of like the Who's who of breaking your body?
- 0:52Speaker 5: You know?
- 0:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely totally sure.
- 0:57Speaker 6: I'll start. I felt the eyes on me.
- 1:00Speaker 4: You are all we're gonna use all right?
- 1:02Speaker 6: Hi guys.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So my name is Trev Trev Dinkle, but usually people
- 1:09Speaker 2: just call me Big Tea on set, and what I
- 1:12Speaker 2: do is I kind of get blown up.
- 1:14Speaker 6: I kind of jump into things, I kind of jump
- 1:16Speaker 6: out of things.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I'm kind of your average stunt guy, but nothing's average
- 1:21Speaker 2: about being stunt guys.
- 1:24Speaker 6: So yeah, that's me.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, awesome, great to great to see you you. My
- 1:30Speaker 1: name is DJ T and I am a stunt performer.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I primarily specialize in doing handshake stunts for Hollywood's germophobes.
- 1:40Speaker 4: So anytime that there.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Is an actor who doesn't like touching other people, doesn't
- 1:44Speaker 1: like hugging other people, I usually hop in and do
- 1:47Speaker 1: that for them, for those insert shots of the hands
- 1:49Speaker 1: coming together or the hugs behind.
- 1:51Speaker 4: The back stuff like that.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, legally it's considered a stunt for those people because
- 1:56Speaker 1: they think it's very dangerous.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Anyway, stunt stunts of stunt at the end of the day.
- 2:03Speaker 7: Stunt to stunt.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Hi, guys, I'm April Shan and I am a stunt performer.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I primarily play children. I was started my career in
- 2:15Speaker 3: Cheaper by the dos in one. All those kids are
- 2:17Speaker 3: flying through those those hallways.
- 2:19Speaker 7: That's all me. I'm petite and I won't let you
- 2:24Speaker 7: forget it.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah you are really small, Sorry, not small petit please?
- 2:32Speaker 7: Yes, thank you, so glad to be here.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Hi.
- 2:36Speaker 8: Uh it's my turn, go for it. My name is
- 2:40Speaker 8: Curtis Suzuki. I am a stunt performer primarily in the past,
- 2:47Speaker 8: I would be hit, punched, kicked, you know in the face,
- 2:52Speaker 8: until we hit a point where it would not let
- 2:55Speaker 8: me do close ups anymore. So now it's more wide
- 2:58Speaker 8: shots of and you know, missing the train, trying to
- 3:02Speaker 8: jump from car to car, missing the other car, kind
- 3:06Speaker 8: of underwheel stuff.
- 3:07Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, underwheels.
- 3:10Speaker 7: I've seen it work. It's incredible.
- 3:12Speaker 5: It's a brutal day when you lose the close up. Yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 5: it's a brutal days SAT day when you lose the
- 3:18Speaker 5: close up. Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 8: And uh, you know, I'm just making it work because
- 3:24Speaker 8: a stuntman or stunt per performer is nothing if not adaptable.
- 3:29Speaker 6: So you're doing a lot of the like in the
- 3:31Speaker 6: movie The Unsuccessful Stunt.
- 3:33Speaker 8: Yeah, like when a henchman is chasing our lead of
- 3:37Speaker 8: the film and then they shoot something that like blows
- 3:41Speaker 8: up and then hits a piece of shrapnel and cuts
- 3:44Speaker 8: someone's foot off and then they get sucked underneath like
- 3:47Speaker 8: some kind of turbine.
- 3:49Speaker 3: You've done that multiple So you're doing kind of the
- 3:51Speaker 3: the bubble.
- 3:53Speaker 8: There's sort of machinery around that looks like a guy
- 3:57Speaker 8: could be just thrown into.
- 3:59Speaker 4: You're doing You're doing woodchipper stuff.
- 4:02Speaker 8: Wood chippers, anything that looks like it's gonna be like
- 4:06Speaker 8: they're they're building a house here, and they gotta they
- 4:09Speaker 8: gotta do a lot of ground covered. I'm gonna get
- 4:12Speaker 8: sucked into that machine.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 8: I was on Titanic and I was I mean the
- 4:17Speaker 8: movie or the movie. Yeah, I was on Titanic. I
- 4:21Speaker 8: got hit by that. Uh the furnace I believe fell over.
- 4:29Speaker 7: Weren't you in them?
- 4:29Speaker 3: I saw your work on snakes in a plane where
- 4:32Speaker 3: you're in the propeller.
- 4:33Speaker 8: Yeah, so a snake bit me in the eye and
- 4:35Speaker 8: then it got your eye right, It sucked up my
- 4:38Speaker 8: eye and I was like, it's sucking out. And then
- 4:40Speaker 8: just then the little you know, like the little plane
- 4:42Speaker 8: window gets burst open by a snake biting it. That
- 4:46Speaker 8: sucks me. I'm flying and then there's just one quick
- 4:50Speaker 8: shot of you know, the actual jet engine that sucks
- 4:55Speaker 8: me in.
- 4:55Speaker 5: So do you have a rig so they pulled you
- 4:57Speaker 5: through the window. How'd you fold your body over to
- 4:59Speaker 5: go through one of those?
- 5:00Speaker 8: Don't get me started? Okay, so you know you got
- 5:02Speaker 8: your regular harness first one. It's a little practical squib
- 5:07Speaker 8: right here. So that does damage my cornea permanently. And
- 5:11Speaker 8: then after that goes off, I'm blind.
- 5:13Speaker 6: I can't see anything.
- 5:15Speaker 8: And then they yank. They think me raising the hands
- 5:18Speaker 8: the signal, and I was raising my hand to cover
- 5:19Speaker 8: my eye. And then so they you know, the team
- 5:22Speaker 8: six guys on the on the you know, the flies
- 5:25Speaker 8: pull it.
- 5:26Speaker 6: I get ripped through.
- 5:27Speaker 8: I actually get ripped through the porthole.
- 5:28Speaker 6: That's not an effect. Oh wow, not an effect. That
- 5:31Speaker 6: is your body folding you.
- 5:33Speaker 4: But I think I read that interview with you.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It's so inspiring what you're doing, because I like, you
- 5:39Speaker 1: really came back from so much having your eyebrows permanently
- 5:42Speaker 1: flipped upside down because of all the stunt mishaps that's
- 5:46Speaker 1: going on. So you permanently do look a little bit angry.
- 5:49Speaker 6: Why did the doctors say that was the solution.
- 5:52Speaker 8: Well, they just had to take my whole forehead and
- 5:54Speaker 8: flip it upside down. And you know that that led
- 5:57Speaker 8: to the eyebrows being the wrong way.
- 6:00Speaker 5: To put the more damage for the word on the
- 6:01Speaker 5: top of it.
- 6:05Speaker 8: You know, you know that, you know that story about
- 6:07Speaker 8: the the little girl has a ribbon around her neck.
- 6:10Speaker 8: If you take it off, her head falls off. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 8: it's kind of the same situation up here. Yeah, the
- 6:15Speaker 8: bandana's load bearing, so yeaha and so they just thought,
- 6:22Speaker 8: you know, with a lot of therapy, you can rework
- 6:24Speaker 8: your facial expressions to be the opposite of what you mean.
- 6:27Speaker 8: So right now I'm obviously happy. Yeah, and oh sorry,
- 6:32Speaker 8: I'm happy.
- 6:33Speaker 7: Oh wow, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 6: One of those. It felt ballpark somewhere in the middle
- 6:37Speaker 6: of there.
- 6:37Speaker 8: Yeah, that's why they're you know, I think it makes
- 6:40Speaker 8: sense to me. Directors have a problem with it. That's
- 6:42Speaker 8: again why I'm not doing the close.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Ups action in the wide legend over here to the last.
- 6:51Speaker 5: My name is Champ Sergeant. I was a stunt performer
- 6:56Speaker 5: on some of the greatest westerns of all time the
- 7:00Speaker 5: fifties and sixties. I was in The Great Train Robbery
- 7:06Speaker 5: and a lot of other ones. Big Rig. I was
- 7:13Speaker 5: on Big Rig, I was on The Shadow Man, I
- 7:17Speaker 5: was on Night Fighter, and I of course was on
- 7:21Speaker 5: The Crying Man, which was one of John Wayne's last films.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Me and John were really close. I love him, and
- 7:29Speaker 5: he's supposed to be a good guy, right yeah, to me,
- 7:33Speaker 5: nothing but the best guy. And I was around him
- 7:37Speaker 5: all the time, so you saw it all I saw everything.
- 7:41Speaker 4: And you're coming out on pro he's.
- 7:43Speaker 7: A good guy. You're retired now, right.
- 7:47Speaker 5: I was retired. I was retired for a long period
- 7:50Speaker 5: of time until recently.
- 7:53Speaker 8: You're in Grandpa.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I was well bad. Grandpa brought me back into the
- 7:58Speaker 5: career life. And also all of these movies, these action
- 8:03Speaker 5: movies where old people are in action movies, movies like
- 8:06Speaker 5: Red and other films. If you see an old person fighting,
- 8:10Speaker 5: I'm usually there too. And you know, because old people
- 8:14Speaker 5: need stunt people.
- 8:15Speaker 1: To that's good that movie Red, I mean you you
- 8:20Speaker 1: gotta have them.
- 8:21Speaker 6: But I miss the old hotel.
- 8:23Speaker 5: And I was Maggie Smith's stunt double for the Grand
- 8:27Speaker 5: Marygold Hotel. I fell down a flight of stairs for her.
- 8:30Speaker 6: Wow.
- 8:31Speaker 8: Did anyone say that movie Red?
- 8:34Speaker 5: I saw it?
- 8:36Speaker 4: Did you did you go out for it?
- 8:38Speaker 5: Or the movie Red?
- 8:39Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 8:40Speaker 5: I was in it.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Yeah. Oh.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I on Malkovich's guy and then I switched over to
- 8:46Speaker 5: Helen Mirren's guy for a little bit.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Oh okay.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Don't you guys love when they like use you in
- 8:52Speaker 3: one day for multiple people and you have to put
- 8:54Speaker 3: the wigs on. It's so silly.
- 8:56Speaker 5: I don't like wiggs. I like to dress like a man.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Oh okay, and.
- 9:01Speaker 5: When I play women on set, I have to make
- 9:04Speaker 5: it clear that I'm not a woman.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Oh so you do a lot of like kind of
- 9:08Speaker 6: deflating humor about it.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Absolutely, no, I say it. I'm a man under here.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I didn't want to make sure everyone knows that I
- 9:15Speaker 5: didn't choose to put this outfit on it.
- 9:17Speaker 4: I actually heard that you do that before every take.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Absolutely, you have to look.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Down the barrel of the lens and say, just so
- 9:24Speaker 1: everybody knows.
- 9:25Speaker 4: In the edit, bay, I am a man.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I'm a man under here, and I don't want this
- 9:31Speaker 5: on me.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I couldn't imagine being Helen Mirren and being that talented
- 9:35Speaker 3: of an actress. Meanwhile, your stunt double like has to
- 9:37Speaker 3: stop take and say that they're a woman.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Well, she needs me, so she has to put up
- 9:41Speaker 5: with me.
- 9:42Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a good point.
- 9:43Speaker 8: You're the only performer her exact height exactly.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Yeah, there are no women body frame.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Too exactly bust.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Anyway, I would love to know from y'all, what is uh,
- 9:57Speaker 1: what is your most dangerous stunt?
- 10:00Speaker 6: You had to get into it, let's get into it
- 10:02Speaker 6: for sure.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I would say my most dangerous stunt was when Jerry Seinfeld.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I was doing his stunt because he doesn't like to touch.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He doesn't like to shake people's hands. And I had
- 10:16Speaker 1: to shake the hand of uh, you know when uh
- 10:21Speaker 1: the girl who played a Wednesday, Jenna Ortega, she had
- 10:24Speaker 1: COVID that day and I had to shake her hand.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Jerry Seidfeld and.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Jenna Ortager doing this hilarious commercial. It's gonna come out soon, which.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Why you haven't seen it. But I had to shake
- 10:35Speaker 4: her hand.
- 10:36Speaker 8: No, and he doesn't sound like a germophobe. That sounds
- 10:42Speaker 8: like that's all great.
- 10:44Speaker 6: Should have got home. They should have pushed that commercial.
- 10:47Speaker 6: She has COVID.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, she really should have gone home, but she didn't.
- 10:51Speaker 8: They couldn't lose it.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Or yeah they.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Were so they were filming on top of Mount Everest.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Everest is booked three hundred and sixty days of the year.
- 11:07Speaker 4: She cannot. She is addicted to having it so much.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I've been brought in a few times for her, uh
- 11:15Speaker 4: or people.
- 11:15Speaker 6: For interactional people.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You know. I did paint it as germophobes, but now
- 11:23Speaker 1: that I think about it, the request is pretty reasonable.
- 11:25Speaker 8: Did you did you get COVID?
- 11:27Speaker 5: Uh?
- 11:27Speaker 4: No, So, because I trained. You know, I've been training.
- 11:32Speaker 4: I've done immunity.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Exposure training to pretty much every disease.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Known to man.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And so that's why it's so important to like have
- 11:41Speaker 1: professionals doing this, you know, because you can't be exposed
- 11:45Speaker 1: to like swine flu or something like a normal person
- 11:48Speaker 1: who hasn't trained, who hasn't done that training. Lots of
- 11:51Speaker 1: actors think they can do their own stunts, you know,
- 11:54Speaker 1: interact with people with swine flu, but I but they can't.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I'm sorry I marked earlier miss because I definitely couldn't
- 12:01Speaker 5: do those sons. It would take me out. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 5: that it wasn't.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Then Hey, there's a lot of there's a lot of
- 12:08Speaker 1: misconceptions out there, and I totally get it. But yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 1: that was probably my most dangerous one. But I didn't
- 12:13Speaker 1: get COVID so far can't taste or smell anything for
- 12:18Speaker 1: a different reason. Oh okay, okay, what about you guys,
- 12:24Speaker 1: what's your most dangerous.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I'll go So I was working on the Diary of
- 12:32Speaker 3: a Wimpy Kid and yeah, yeah, so I was working
- 12:38Speaker 3: a Diary of a Wimpy Kids, one.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Of the best movies the last ten years.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Oh really, I.
- 12:44Speaker 7: You're a fan.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Okay, So there was a kid named Paul Boober and
- 12:49Speaker 3: he had to fly through the hallway, fly through the
- 12:53Speaker 3: school hallway and land somehow through the door, land on
- 12:58Speaker 3: top of the school bus ten yards down.
- 13:00Speaker 7: And of course, I mean I work a lot.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Because legally, these kids can't even go like ten feet
- 13:07Speaker 3: off the ground without.
- 13:11Speaker 7: It being a stunt performer.
- 13:12Speaker 3: So you can't even like put them on a stair
- 13:14Speaker 3: like a staircase. You just can't do that because it's dangerous.
- 13:17Speaker 3: So they shoved me through the hallway, landed on top
- 13:23Speaker 3: of the school bus, and in the last take, the
- 13:26Speaker 3: director said, let's fuck it, let's make the school bus
- 13:29Speaker 3: drive after you land on it. And that had to
- 13:31Speaker 3: be the mouse dangerous because landing full throttle after going
- 13:36Speaker 3: through a full school hallway, landing on top of a
- 13:39Speaker 3: school bus and then the school bus going full speed
- 13:42Speaker 3: I had was just absolutely dangerous.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Did they not do like a safety rehearsal for that?
- 13:50Speaker 7: So of course we had to. We had to.
- 13:53Speaker 3: So the director was like, let's just let's let's get
- 13:55Speaker 3: one where the bus moves, and of course, like legally,
- 13:58Speaker 3: I had to do a run through before we did it.
- 14:01Speaker 6: And you were playing the kid with the curly hair,
- 14:02Speaker 6: the kind of silly.
- 14:04Speaker 7: One, yeah, and the nervous one exactly.
- 14:07Speaker 3: And I had Cheetos all over my body.
- 14:10Speaker 7: I had Cheetahs all over me.
- 14:12Speaker 3: So when we ran it, I didn't have the Cheetos
- 14:15Speaker 3: the Cheeto fuzz and crumbs everywhere. So I landed and
- 14:20Speaker 3: the bus moved. But when we did it with the Cheetos,
- 14:23Speaker 3: I was slippery mass.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Yeah, notoriously slippery snack.
- 14:28Speaker 7: No, it's so slippery. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, it was like.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was really dangerous, but thank god I'm small,
- 14:40Speaker 3: they got my ass.
- 14:41Speaker 6: One of my favorite sequences in.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Diary of the Wimpy Kid, I'll say, is when the
- 14:45Speaker 2: silly nervous kid flies out of that window and lands
- 14:48Speaker 2: on the bus and it keeps moving.
- 14:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Best movie in the last ten years. Now, Can I
- 14:53Speaker 1: ask you, when you're on set and stuff, do people
- 14:56Speaker 1: actually think that you are a kid?
- 14:58Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 14:59Speaker 3: Ah, the the amount of times I've had to tell
- 15:02Speaker 3: a school tutor, that's that tutor, don't talk to me.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Shoo shoot, bitch, shoo shoot.
- 15:10Speaker 5: All the time?
- 15:11Speaker 4: You should? You should?
- 15:15Speaker 7: I can say shoe, bitch, you can't. So yeah, that
- 15:21Speaker 7: has to be the most dangerous. What about you.
- 15:24Speaker 8: Guys, like an incredible opportunity being like a classic film
- 15:27Speaker 8: like that.
- 15:28Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I mean it's cannon. It's like my great
- 15:31Speaker 7: grandfather was in The Godfather.
- 15:33Speaker 6: He did the Wow, great grand.
- 15:40Speaker 5: You're making me feel like dust. My son was in
- 15:43Speaker 5: The Godfather.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Oh my god.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Well he played a baby when he was born.
- 15:49Speaker 8: But the craziest stunt, my craziest stunt, probably the last
- 15:55Speaker 8: one I did, was I was in that did you
- 15:58Speaker 8: see Bullet train?
- 15:59Speaker 6: You see?
- 16:00Speaker 8: Yeah, a great stunt performer. Basically all of our.
- 16:07Speaker 6: Friends are in that one.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Oh yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 8: But it was like a party kind of you know,
- 16:11Speaker 8: it was a great shoot. We were in you know,
- 16:14Speaker 8: Japan for a couple of months. It was an incredible time.
- 16:17Speaker 8: I had to be one of the henchmen who was
- 16:19Speaker 8: on top of the train. There's a little there's a
- 16:22Speaker 8: sequence on top of the train where you know, it's windy,
- 16:24Speaker 8: they're going the train's going, you know, four hundred miles
- 16:27Speaker 8: an hour, and there there's a moment where I'm facing
- 16:31Speaker 8: the wrong way and I turn around. You know, I'm
- 16:33Speaker 8: wearing a mask. You can't really tell who I am. Uh,
- 16:36Speaker 8: And they've all laid you know, they all get flat
- 16:39Speaker 8: as a tunnel comes. You know, it's the reason.
- 16:45Speaker 5: It looks so good.
- 16:46Speaker 8: Is practically yeah, and I try to I tried to
- 16:51Speaker 8: duck the last minute, but I don't get I don't
- 16:53Speaker 8: get low enough, so I just hit knees first.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Into this.
- 17:00Speaker 8: Area. Is just shot so hard the.
- 17:06Speaker 7: Boobs of a step performer.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And was that was that planned on the outset that
- 17:10Speaker 5: you were going to have to do?
- 17:12Speaker 6: Well?
- 17:12Speaker 8: I knew that I was going to be probably the
- 17:14Speaker 8: guy there was kind of going around as sort of
- 17:16Speaker 8: a short straw situation. Everyone else kind of it gets
- 17:20Speaker 8: killed in a more safer way for your overall livelihood.
- 17:24Speaker 8: But uh yeah, my my knees are they shattered so
- 17:28Speaker 8: completely that you can find pieces of telling my floating
- 17:32Speaker 8: through my head.
- 17:35Speaker 5: It absorbed your knees, just been taking the rest of
- 17:38Speaker 5: your body, you know the Big bang theory.
- 17:40Speaker 6: You know what that is familiar?
- 17:43Speaker 8: Yeah, for sure, same exact thing.
- 17:47Speaker 4: What of your how much of your body is bionic?
- 17:51Speaker 1: Would you say bionic like like not like replacement but
- 17:55Speaker 1: not organic?
- 17:56Speaker 8: I got about well, really, you know my tibia, myphibia,
- 18:00Speaker 8: my radius, my own.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Radius, half of the circular parts of your body the
- 18:10Speaker 1: distance between.
- 18:11Speaker 8: Those slag tights and the slagmites. The ribs on the
- 18:16Speaker 8: left side.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Were the selectits and slagmites made in the big bang
- 18:20Speaker 2: of your knees.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 8: Those those that's what I call the ptella sharks that
- 18:24Speaker 8: are floating around.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Some of those got replaced to the sharks.
- 18:27Speaker 7: Yeah, there's a lot of good guys on that movie.
- 18:30Speaker 7: You have a stitch Head. He's a good guy.
- 18:34Speaker 8: Together extra drumk he is.
- 18:38Speaker 7: He's a good guy.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Talk later. Yeah, stitch Head on Last Vegas. Really fun guy, incredible.
- 18:47Speaker 7: What's the most dangerous you've done?
- 18:49Speaker 6: Well?
- 18:49Speaker 5: Probably in The Lonely Man nineteen sixty four. I was
- 18:56Speaker 5: on top of a train on a horse and the
- 18:59Speaker 5: horse got shot and so I had to fall off
- 19:02Speaker 5: the side. And so it was on a horse falling
- 19:06Speaker 5: off a moving train, and we did that practical. We
- 19:11Speaker 5: didn't kill the horse.
- 19:12Speaker 7: Horse.
- 19:13Speaker 5: No, there's a thing, an old movie trick. We didn't
- 19:15Speaker 5: shoot the horse. But if you make a horse go
- 19:19Speaker 5: to sleep really fast when it falls, it doesn't hurt itself.
- 19:22Speaker 8: Tranquilized the horse, and.
- 19:26Speaker 4: The horse didn't get hurt.
- 19:27Speaker 7: How we know it doesn't hurt.
- 19:29Speaker 5: The horse woke up feeling fine and dandy. The horse
- 19:31Speaker 5: woke up the next day and actually ran in the
- 19:33Speaker 5: Kentucky Derby.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Wow.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Absolutely, story.
- 19:37Speaker 6: That's like a cat.
- 19:38Speaker 2: When you drop it from such a high space, it
- 19:40Speaker 2: relaxes something.
- 19:41Speaker 5: But the carse it's relaxed, it's not gonna get hurt.
- 19:44Speaker 5: So we shot it with a big tranquilizer and then
- 19:47Speaker 5: it fell off the moving train.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Did you get hurt?
- 19:50Speaker 5: I got hurt. I got a road rash all over
- 19:52Speaker 5: my body. I hit one of the spikes of the
- 19:56Speaker 5: railroad spikes that went through my head Phineas Gage style.
- 19:59Speaker 5: But wow, you're sticking out. Yeah, got it taken out,
- 20:03Speaker 5: got a bump of my skull here, got a bump
- 20:04Speaker 5: of my chain here, got a road rash here that
- 20:07Speaker 5: never healed. And uh, through healing, I go through eight
- 20:13Speaker 5: shirts to day. I'm always losing something.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Uh.
- 20:16Speaker 5: And then yeah, I hurt my pride as well because
- 20:19Speaker 5: the director didn't compliment me.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And yeah, do you do you guys ever get a
- 20:24Speaker 1: stun adjustment for when your pride is hurt because.
- 20:29Speaker 5: We used to pride was big back in on the Western.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I heard they're kind of doing away with that,
- 20:34Speaker 1: but uh it, I've heard of people in the older
- 20:38Speaker 1: generations getting a little bit of like, oh no, your
- 20:40Speaker 1: ego is kind of shattered in this one.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Here's an extra one hundred.
- 20:45Speaker 8: Extra one hundred bucks or something that would be nice.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, they should bring that ball.
- 20:49Speaker 7: I would love a kit fee for my pride.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Well that is that I got a bump. I work
- 20:53Speaker 2: a lot actually on the Transformers movies.
- 20:55Speaker 7: And man, that's a huge franchise.
- 20:58Speaker 6: Yeah, so thank you, thank you.
- 21:00Speaker 5: It's all practice, all practice.
- 21:01Speaker 4: So when the cars are turning into robots.
- 21:04Speaker 6: And yeah, yeah, that's all practical.
- 21:06Speaker 4: So that's practical.
- 21:07Speaker 8: Yeah, it looks so real.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Yeah, the best franchises.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say one of the best. And Michael Bay,
- 21:14Speaker 2: the Bay guy. He loves tea, which is me, and
- 21:18Speaker 2: he loves you know, throwing me in and getting me involved.
- 21:22Speaker 2: The robots are all practical, the bullets are all practical.
- 21:25Speaker 2: It's kind of just you know, you're an active war
- 21:27Speaker 2: when you're on a set like that. So the craziest
- 21:30Speaker 2: situation for me, which actually plays into the Pride thing,
- 21:33Speaker 2: was one time Bumblebee transformed throwing out like the bad
- 21:37Speaker 2: guy in Bumblebee, I got thrown out.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Bullets were firing me.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I got shot in the arm, and then Shilah buff
- 21:43Speaker 2: and Mark Wahlberg, who joined up for that movie, both
- 21:46Speaker 2: look at and go, now, that's a dumb guy.
- 21:49Speaker 6: I'm appointed to me. And that was hard, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 6: to hear that line four or five times over and
- 21:53Speaker 6: over again. So they bumped me. My pride was injured.
- 21:56Speaker 6: My pride was hurt.
- 21:57Speaker 7: That's incredible.
- 21:58Speaker 8: So they established the bullet shot, so they had to
- 22:00Speaker 8: do it over and over again.
- 22:01Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, first one I got shot, so I had
- 22:05Speaker 6: to keep over.
- 22:07Speaker 2: It was one of those things like on Michael Bay,
- 22:09Speaker 2: you hope to not get shot first take, you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: because every other shot. If they get it the first
- 22:13Speaker 2: take and Michael Bay likes it, then you're good, you know.
- 22:16Speaker 2: But if you know, sometimes we'll learn to take three
- 22:18Speaker 2: and he goes, I need one of my men to
- 22:21Speaker 2: go down, and we'll pick straws.
- 22:23Speaker 1: And you know, it's crazy how much of this industry
- 22:26Speaker 1: is drawing straws.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Yeah, more regulated than that.
- 22:30Speaker 3: But that brings up a great point, like what are
- 22:32Speaker 3: actors you guys love doing stunts with? Because some of
- 22:34Speaker 3: these guys they love to throw their hat in the
- 22:36Speaker 3: ring and sometimes that's it makes some other stunt performers upset.
- 22:40Speaker 3: And I'm curious how you guys feel like if you
- 22:43Speaker 3: like working with actors.
- 22:45Speaker 8: Well, I mean, I'll throw out a name, the kind
- 22:48Speaker 8: of the king of the guys who who get it.
- 22:51Speaker 8: I feel like Tom Cruise.
- 22:55Speaker 5: King Tom King of the guys who.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Get it, the guys I have actually done some stuff
- 23:02Speaker 1: for him because uh, scientology has made him afraid of
- 23:06Speaker 1: catching thetans. So anytime he interacts with someone with negative vibes,
- 23:10Speaker 1: who they believe is running rampant with negative thetans and
- 23:14Speaker 1: negative energy, I have to do any sort of hug
- 23:17Speaker 1: or handshake for that.
- 23:19Speaker 5: I was. I was Paul Newman's stun double on the
- 23:23Speaker 5: Color of Money. I did a lot of the pool
- 23:25Speaker 5: shots stuff. I did a lot of the pool stuff
- 23:27Speaker 5: with Tom, and Tom said, I do my own stunts
- 23:29Speaker 5: on this, and he did his own pool Paul didn't
- 23:31Speaker 5: want to hurt his fingers, but Tom.
- 23:33Speaker 8: Tom felt when you're not paying attention at like a
- 23:37Speaker 8: party and someone's playing pool and you just get.
- 23:39Speaker 6: Yeah, you get engaged hurt.
- 23:42Speaker 5: That could set you back ten thirty minutes truly, oh god,
- 23:46Speaker 5: half an hour, half an hour with a sore finger
- 23:49Speaker 5: like that.
- 23:50Speaker 7: Oh my god, a sore finger ten minutes is awful.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Once I add I dub I doubled for Joe Jusa
- 23:57Speaker 3: at the Nickelodeon Choice Awards.
- 24:01Speaker 6: The Nickelodeon Choice Awards.
- 24:02Speaker 7: Right that one the kids don't choose.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Yeah, So one year they were like, let's make the
- 24:09Speaker 3: studio vote. It was crazy, but the studio voted on
- 24:18Speaker 3: who they wanted to dump with slime, and they damp
- 24:23Speaker 3: so much slime on Judjo.
- 24:25Speaker 7: See while they were worried about her brain, so they
- 24:27Speaker 7: had me.
- 24:29Speaker 5: Sounds vindictive for the studio.
- 24:31Speaker 2: No, I've heard most Kids Choice Awards winners they always
- 24:33Speaker 2: worry about the brain.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Slime is bad for you, and.
- 24:38Speaker 3: It's heavy, it's a concussion waiting to happen. It's bad
- 24:40Speaker 3: for your brain. So I did it, and she begged
- 24:44Speaker 3: me to let her do one. And legally I shouldn't
- 24:48Speaker 3: have done this, but I was like, go for it.
- 24:50Speaker 3: And she's a strong cookie. She's got tom Cruise energy
- 24:52Speaker 3: for sure.
- 24:53Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that Jojo.
- 24:54Speaker 8: She's in Mission Impossible seven.
- 24:56Speaker 2: No way, yeah, bad guy, she's the bad guy whoa.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Yeah spoiler alert, we got spoilers.
- 25:04Speaker 5: About spoilers nowadays.
- 25:06Speaker 4: I know, you can't even spoil a good movie.
- 25:07Speaker 5: Any spoil anything anymore.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Well, I mean they couldn't spoil much back in the day,
- 25:12Speaker 3: but now we can spoil things like with Twitter.
- 25:14Speaker 5: And no one knew what was going to happen, and
- 25:16Speaker 5: you couldn't spoil a western. Also, a Stranger comes down,
- 25:19Speaker 5: Stranger leaves town.
- 25:23Speaker 8: No no, no, I mean you talking about Nickelodeon Choice
- 25:28Speaker 8: Awards brings up a good point, you know that I've
- 25:30Speaker 8: been thinking about, and it's when are we gonna get
- 25:33Speaker 8: nominated for Oscars?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yes, about it, because I like, I am putting in
- 25:41Speaker 1: some Oscar work, in some stuff because I uh doubled
- 25:46Speaker 1: for Justin Timberlake in an upcoming movie that's like really
- 25:50Speaker 1: it's Oscar Bait.
- 25:51Speaker 4: It's about a single dad and his son.
- 25:55Speaker 1: The Social network too, Yes, the Social Network too. I
- 25:58Speaker 1: took over for Jesse Eisenberg and so there's this really
- 26:01Speaker 1: devastating scene where he and Brenda Song are breaking up,
- 26:06Speaker 1: and they had me go in for Justin Timberlake because
- 26:09Speaker 1: Justin Timberlake was afraid of catching feelings, and so I
- 26:13Speaker 1: had to do a lot of the stunts where he
- 26:15Speaker 1: was like really fallen in love with Brenda Song all
- 26:17Speaker 1: over again.
- 26:18Speaker 6: I've heard.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I've heard that that's a common problem for Justin Timberlake,
- 26:21Speaker 2: him catching feelings on set.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Yeah, he's addicted to it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: He is a really weak immune system, and so he's
- 26:27Speaker 1: constantly fallen in love.
- 26:28Speaker 5: Back in the day, we had a Carrie Grant had
- 26:30Speaker 5: that too. It was an affection double oh wow, affection
- 26:35Speaker 5: instead of stunts. It was affection.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's it's hard work because sometimes I do
- 26:40Speaker 1: get those sort of butterflies in my stomach where I'm like,
- 26:43Speaker 1: oh my god, I know I'm acting, but are me
- 26:45Speaker 1: and Brenda Song kind.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Of an item? And then you have to go no, no, no, no,
- 26:49Speaker 4: what you trained for?
- 26:50Speaker 6: She's hypnotic.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Yeah, she's beautiful.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, I've got a question for you guys. And
- 26:56Speaker 2: we talked about our most dangerous stun. But let's talk
- 26:59Speaker 2: about the big elephant room when a stunt goes wrong,
- 27:01Speaker 2: because it does go wrong.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Okay, let's be respeckfu.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, absolutely, I'll start. Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 5: I think one of the biggest stunts that went wrong
- 27:12Speaker 5: was for me. Uh there was a big elephant in
- 27:15Speaker 5: a room and we weren't ready for it. If you
- 27:18Speaker 5: weren't prepped, there wasn't ventilation, and like you know, it
- 27:24Speaker 5: was it was rushed. It was rushed. It was a
- 27:27Speaker 5: director last minute said I found this elephant, let's try
- 27:29Speaker 5: him on.
- 27:30Speaker 6: And what was the context of that.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Well, it was it was a late uh, late sixties,
- 27:36Speaker 5: early seventies, experimental avant garde movie. This Italian director came over, uh,
- 27:42Speaker 5: worked with the same production house that Roger Corman was
- 27:45Speaker 5: putting together. And he got a bunch of people. And
- 27:47Speaker 5: you know, Roger Corman made things fast, he made things cheap,
- 27:49Speaker 5: and if something fucked up, you moved on. That's what
- 27:52Speaker 5: he did. And so you got an elephant in the room.
- 27:54Speaker 5: The elephant's hot, The elephant starts getting pissed off, starts
- 27:56Speaker 5: stomping elf in the room. Yeah, exactly, passes out.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Uh.
- 28:01Speaker 7: The elephant passed out, hits.
- 28:03Speaker 5: The camop cam up, falls over, knocks into craft services.
- 28:07Speaker 5: That flies spaghetti across the room.
- 28:10Speaker 7: Oh yeah, spaghetti at craft service.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Yeah, well this was the sixties.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Spaghetti.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Just reach into a bowl of spaghetti, gumbies and bags.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Let me get my gummies are for kids. Gummies are
- 28:27Speaker 5: for babies. We had spaghetti like men, glasses and milk,
- 28:32Speaker 5: glasses of milk and spaghetti. That's what we had. Anyways,
- 28:37Speaker 5: the elephant died and we had to chop him up.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Why did you have to We.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Had to chop him up because we couldn't get him
- 28:43Speaker 5: out of the out of the laying down. You couldn't
- 28:46Speaker 5: get him out of the doors. After that, they had
- 28:50Speaker 5: to build doors big enough to get elephants in pieces. Yeah, no,
- 28:55Speaker 5: now it's for elephants. Wow. It was rough and technically
- 28:59Speaker 5: I wasn't even there to do a stunt. As we mentioned,
- 29:02Speaker 5: I wasn't there for a stunt. We were just kind
- 29:04Speaker 5: of getting a shot for this expressionistic movie.
- 29:07Speaker 2: And uh uh.
- 29:08Speaker 5: That was one of the worst things I've ever seen.
- 29:11Speaker 5: You know that and the hundreds of horses who didn't
- 29:13Speaker 5: wake up from falling off trains, but you know that
- 29:16Speaker 5: is at least they weren't exactly at least they died
- 29:20Speaker 5: peacefully in their sleep.
- 29:25Speaker 8: Oh man, I'm trying to think. I think the worst
- 29:28Speaker 8: stunt performance, or you know, the most arious stunt has
- 29:32Speaker 8: gone for me was in Rush Hour two. I was
- 29:38Speaker 8: doubling zang Zy and you know she she comes in
- 29:43Speaker 8: at the end of the bomb and.
- 29:46Speaker 6: This is a spoiler.
- 29:47Speaker 8: Sorry guys for a.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Rush hour, get over it.
- 29:49Speaker 3: If it was into a stunt performers round table and
- 29:51Speaker 3: you haven't seen the Great rush Hour, to do your homework,
- 29:56Speaker 3: get home.
- 29:57Speaker 8: So yeah, I mean I double her as she explodes
- 30:01Speaker 8: with a bomb and they run out of the way.
- 30:04Speaker 8: Oh no, the I was supposed to get blown to pieces,
- 30:08Speaker 8: absolutely shredded, and instead when I got hit by the blast,
- 30:13Speaker 8: it sent me straight down a hallway into just a
- 30:17Speaker 8: room filled with temper pedic mattresses and shot.
- 30:20Speaker 6: Oh no, you were fine. You didn't get hurt at.
- 30:25Speaker 5: All, not at all ruined.
- 30:26Speaker 8: The shot ruined because they were supposed to see me
- 30:29Speaker 8: get absolutely I signed something that said I'm okay with
- 30:32Speaker 8: it for the film.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I'm good to die for a would you you die
- 30:38Speaker 4: for a film?
- 30:38Speaker 2: And they only had one shot of that because I
- 30:40Speaker 2: remember that movie now thinking back, it's christ Yeah the
- 30:44Speaker 2: whole thing got cut.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, well they just cut to Chris Tucker and
- 30:47Speaker 6: Jackie Chan flying down. Yeah the zip line.
- 30:50Speaker 8: Yeah, not my part got cut.
- 30:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Well that's so funny because now thinking back, I do
- 30:55Speaker 2: I didn't notice just a body flying through a hallway
- 30:59Speaker 2: just at the end there.
- 31:00Speaker 8: Free you have to like stutter the frames across and
- 31:03Speaker 8: you see just this bullet into a mattress store, and uh,
- 31:08Speaker 8: you know, so sorry about that.
- 31:10Speaker 6: I'm so sorry.
- 31:11Speaker 8: It was the loss a loss.
- 31:13Speaker 4: What movie would you guys die for?
- 31:17Speaker 6: Aquila and the Bee? Personally? What Aquila and the Bee
- 31:22Speaker 6: you die for?
- 31:23Speaker 1: That?
- 31:23Speaker 6: Die for that movie?
- 31:24Speaker 5: That's one of the best movies the last twenty five years.
- 31:26Speaker 6: I think it's one of the bravest movies.
- 31:28Speaker 8: When you say you would die for it, do you
- 31:30Speaker 8: mean die performing in it or just to save the movie?
- 31:33Speaker 6: Just save the movie? Okay, I thought. I think I'm.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Confused by the If there was a truck full of
- 31:38Speaker 1: copies of DVDs of Aquila and the Bee and it
- 31:41Speaker 1: was headed for a ravine, you would throw your body
- 31:44Speaker 1: in front.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Of the body and it hopes to stop it, and
- 31:46Speaker 2: it hopes to hit the brake.
- 31:47Speaker 6: Yes, that's that's for me. I just love that movie
- 31:50Speaker 6: so much.
- 31:50Speaker 1: How did you guys get started in stunt performing?
- 31:54Speaker 6: Like?
- 31:54Speaker 4: When when did you know you wanted to be doing this?
- 31:58Speaker 2: Oh?
- 31:58Speaker 7: My gosh, my family home.
- 32:01Speaker 3: I was about ten years old and my mom locked
- 32:05Speaker 3: us out of the door. We like we accidentally left
- 32:08Speaker 3: our key inside and we had to get back, and
- 32:11Speaker 3: I slipped through the mailbox. Believe it or not, our mailbox.
- 32:16Speaker 4: You were small.
- 32:17Speaker 3: You into our home and we were there's a little
- 32:22Speaker 3: slit in there.
- 32:23Speaker 7: So I went. I was like, Mom, maybe I'll try this.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Maybe I'll just try to go inside, go through the
- 32:28Speaker 3: door so I can open the door up so we
- 32:30Speaker 3: can get to my piano recital on time. She was
- 32:33Speaker 3: so amazed that I fit through the mailbox that we
- 32:36Speaker 3: never went to my piano recital. I immediately went into
- 32:38Speaker 3: gymnastics class because.
- 32:39Speaker 4: So she turned the car around.
- 32:42Speaker 7: We can't be Yeah.
- 32:43Speaker 3: My torso was halfway through the mailbox and she said,
- 32:45Speaker 3: oh my god, my kid's genius. And I realized that
- 32:49Speaker 3: is one of those moments you know your kid's a genius, like.
- 32:54Speaker 4: When you throw a towel over a dog and they
- 32:55Speaker 4: figure out their way out.
- 32:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 3: So that in that moment, it was like immediate to
- 33:01Speaker 3: me and my mom that I was going to be
- 33:03Speaker 3: a stunt performer.
- 33:05Speaker 5: Wow, did you get you in classes or yeah?
- 33:07Speaker 3: She put me in gymnastics classes. And then my brothers
- 33:10Speaker 3: just started throwing shit at me. Wow, And I got
- 33:13Speaker 3: really good at feeling something about to hit me and
- 33:17Speaker 3: standing there, because that's also another thing we should talk about,
- 33:19Speaker 3: fight or flight, where sometimes you're about to do a
- 33:22Speaker 3: stunt and your body wants to save itself right, it
- 33:24Speaker 3: doesn't want to get hit. But I thank God for
- 33:28Speaker 3: my bully asshole brothers. I can now take the impact
- 33:33Speaker 3: of anything coming towards me, and I'm thankful for that.
- 33:36Speaker 7: And it's a great upbringing.
- 33:38Speaker 5: That's me for sure. I just knew how to take
- 33:40Speaker 5: a punch. I knew how to get my ass kicked.
- 33:43Speaker 5: You know, in bars, I'd run my mouth and I'd
- 33:45Speaker 5: get my ass kicked.
- 33:46Speaker 7: How old were you when you found stunt performing?
- 33:48Speaker 5: Fourteen fourteen, I was in Cecil b De Mills, the
- 33:51Speaker 5: Greatest Show on Earth, and I played a clown that
- 33:59Speaker 5: got shot in the face. Wow.
- 34:01Speaker 8: Yeah, Wow, that's incredible, pretty great.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Seysoul was a great guy, another great guy. Everyone I
- 34:10Speaker 5: worked with was a great guy who'd hold up. Now, Wow,
- 34:13Speaker 5: Trev you shruck me.
- 34:14Speaker 6: As a college boy, I got into it at college.
- 34:16Speaker 6: I got into it a college.
- 34:19Speaker 2: I was kind of known as the guy who would
- 34:20Speaker 2: just jump off of anything on purpose. So I'd be
- 34:24Speaker 2: jumping off of mattresses, I'd be jumping off of stairs.
- 34:28Speaker 6: I'd be jumping off of buildings. I'd be jumping off
- 34:30Speaker 6: of classes.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Do you do what do they call it parkour?
- 34:33Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 34:34Speaker 2: So I came from basically a college. I was studying
- 34:36Speaker 2: parkour at Tulane University.
- 34:39Speaker 7: I heard about two lanes.
- 34:41Speaker 2: That's yeah, that's a major. They love parkour down in Tulane.
- 34:46Speaker 2: So it's good in human parkour is best when you're
- 34:50Speaker 2: limber because of the humidity.
- 34:51Speaker 5: It makes me scared though. New Orleans got a lot
- 34:53Speaker 5: of old buildings. You ever jump out of building that
- 34:54Speaker 5: falls apart.
- 34:55Speaker 2: All the time, you would not believe. But that's kind
- 34:58Speaker 2: of where you get started. This is kind of kind
- 35:00Speaker 2: of where you get started. You know, the men you
- 35:03Speaker 2: realize there's more to parkour than just jumping on a
- 35:06Speaker 2: good building. What what can you do if you jump
- 35:08Speaker 2: on a bad building, they can shoot that and they
- 35:10Speaker 2: can use it.
- 35:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 35:11Speaker 8: Yeah, I've heard people say parker is what happens when
- 35:14Speaker 8: you jump off a bad building.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Yeah, that's when it comes to life.
- 35:18Speaker 2: That's what it comes to life. Park We we used
- 35:21Speaker 2: to say tou lane when we were in class. You know,
- 35:24Speaker 2: parkour isn't parkour until you're scared. And once you get
- 35:28Speaker 2: used to it, you're not scared anymore until you know something,
- 35:31Speaker 2: you know, something starts crumbling.
- 35:34Speaker 6: So yeah, I give it up to Tulane. That kind
- 35:36Speaker 6: of was like they had.
- 35:36Speaker 2: A showcase where a bunch of Hollywood producers came in
- 35:40Speaker 2: and we got to show them our stunt performance and
- 35:42Speaker 2: that was really fun and exciting.
- 35:44Speaker 6: So yeah, that's how I got into it. What about you?
- 35:48Speaker 8: Kind of similar to your story, I you know, I
- 35:51Speaker 8: was I read about Steven Spielberg and how he you know, got.
- 35:56Speaker 6: His not really not very legendary.
- 35:59Speaker 8: To me, like, okay, not not I'm not huge in
- 36:03Speaker 8: the stunt community.
- 36:05Speaker 5: But Indiana Jones Week not a lot of stunts running
- 36:09Speaker 5: from a boulder. I do that every day in my life, saying.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Where do you live?
- 36:15Speaker 5: Your husband?
- 36:16Speaker 7: Yeah he's been Bowler's balls are huge.
- 36:20Speaker 6: Anyway, continue exactly.
- 36:24Speaker 8: So, you know, I didn't always know I wanted to
- 36:26Speaker 8: be something. I thought I wanted to be a director,
- 36:28Speaker 8: so I went I went wow, And you know, I
- 36:29Speaker 8: heard the stories about Spielberg kind of sneaking his way
- 36:32Speaker 8: onto onto the lot, pretending he was part of the
- 36:35Speaker 8: the you know, people doing their jobs and stuff and
- 36:39Speaker 8: just get you learning by being around, and so I
- 36:41Speaker 8: did a similar thing.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I was.
- 36:42Speaker 8: I went to the Universal Studios and I rode the
- 36:44Speaker 8: tram and I tried to sneak off the tram and
- 36:47Speaker 8: that's when I got sucked into the Jaws rides and
- 36:50Speaker 8: as it was kind of ripping, ripping me apart, uh,
- 36:54Speaker 8: they and they pulled me out, and I was, I thought,
- 36:57Speaker 8: I thought it was dead. I thought the shark ate me.
- 37:00Speaker 5: I didn't know that shark machine had a suction to it.
- 37:03Speaker 8: No, I mean it's it's not supposed to. That was
- 37:05Speaker 8: the thing, and that day it had. Yeah, someone accidentally
- 37:12Speaker 8: flipped flipper.
- 37:13Speaker 4: I want imagine your wet road.
- 37:16Speaker 8: So I'm swimming away but I can't and then I
- 37:19Speaker 8: get sucked into it. But part of the lawsuit, and
- 37:23Speaker 8: then you know, the settlement was that I didn't hate
- 37:26Speaker 8: the experience and I was. I was willing to admit that,
- 37:30Speaker 8: and so frustrating for your lawyer. Yeah, he was mad
- 37:34Speaker 8: because we had a pretty good case. I was going
- 37:35Speaker 8: to get I don't know, twenty million dollars, but I
- 37:38Speaker 8: was like, get me an audition.
- 37:40Speaker 7: Would you say that on the stand?
- 37:42Speaker 8: Yeah, And then I didn't tell my lawyer before because
- 37:45Speaker 8: I thought I thought he would think it was really
- 37:48Speaker 8: interesting and cool, and then I saw his face fall
- 37:50Speaker 8: and he was.
- 37:51Speaker 1: So the jury just kind of went never mind.
- 37:54Speaker 8: I not often to do to you know, people fully
- 37:58Speaker 8: changed their mind in court like that.
- 38:00Speaker 7: That's incredible.
- 38:01Speaker 3: I mean, but Hollywood is so cut throat that that's
- 38:03Speaker 3: one of that's a huge story of someone in Hollywood
- 38:06Speaker 3: begging for a job.
- 38:08Speaker 6: How did you get started?
- 38:09Speaker 2: It's such a you know, interesting fast yeahforming So.
- 38:13Speaker 4: I got started pretty early.
- 38:15Speaker 1: I think I knew I wanted to do this when
- 38:18Speaker 1: it was I was in middle school and my boyfriend
- 38:21Speaker 1: got Mono and he was sick for like a full year,
- 38:25Speaker 1: and so I was just constantly like making out with
- 38:29Speaker 1: this kid with Mono. I was a kid too, but
- 38:33Speaker 1: we were just to clarify, that's really just like, I
- 38:40Speaker 1: don't want anything to be taken out of context.
- 38:42Speaker 4: That's the last thing I want. That is my fear.
- 38:44Speaker 4: I need a stunt double for saying, yeah, yeah, it's scary,
- 38:49Speaker 4: scary to be talking.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Honestly, but yeah, So I had a boyfriend with Mono,
- 38:56Speaker 1: and so I was constantly around him, constantly kissing him,
- 39:00Speaker 1: shaking his hand, hugging him all kinds of stuff. And
- 39:03Speaker 1: then one of my teachers, UH noticed this, and she said, hey,
- 39:09Speaker 1: I want to talk to you for a second because
- 39:11Speaker 1: I want to get out of teaching eighth grade.
- 39:14Speaker 4: I want to become an agent for stunt doubles.
- 39:17Speaker 2: And she talked to you about yes, she said.
- 39:20Speaker 6: And then she had an idea for She had an
- 39:24Speaker 6: idea big conversation to have with a teacher.
- 39:29Speaker 1: She kind of saw something in me. I was kind
- 39:32Speaker 1: of one of those precocious kids.
- 39:33Speaker 8: Who I saw you guys making out a lot, shaking hands.
- 39:39Speaker 1: She was by the lockers a bit because she had
- 39:42Speaker 1: her teacher locker. There was a mix up and hers
- 39:45Speaker 1: was next to all the students lockers because they didn't
- 39:47Speaker 1: have enough room in the teacher's lounge. We were really close.
- 39:50Speaker 5: So I didn't alarm you. Then your teacher said, I
- 39:52Speaker 5: want to pivot careers to you as an adult. If
- 39:56Speaker 5: someone immediately tells them i'm gonna, I'm gonna I'm going
- 39:59Speaker 5: to move to and I'm going to open a bar.
- 40:01Speaker 5: I said, oh, you're going through some sort of mental crisis.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Yeah, And I could kind of sense that on her,
- 40:06Speaker 1: But at that point she was promising me stardom or
- 40:09Speaker 1: startom adjacent stuff. So I was kind of I had
- 40:13Speaker 1: the stars in my eyes. I had that sort of
- 40:16Speaker 1: that feeling where I'm like.
- 40:17Speaker 4: All swept up by it, and luckily it worked out.
- 40:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 40:21Speaker 1: By the very next year, I was on Wizards of
- 40:24Speaker 1: Waverley Place hugging Selena Gomez as her friend Harper with
- 40:29Speaker 1: all the weird outfits because she didn't like hugging. She
- 40:32Speaker 1: was afraid of getting a skin disease. She had a
- 40:36Speaker 1: very specific spirit Jennifer Stone. Yeah, Jennifer Stone, she was
- 40:38Speaker 1: really scared.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Isn't that how a teacher can change your life? That's
- 40:42Speaker 3: what I always say specific similar to.
- 40:45Speaker 8: Stunt performers, I would say teachers are underappreciated.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, well that's why we always all hang
- 40:51Speaker 2: out together.
- 40:52Speaker 6: It's like you when you go to a stunt bar,
- 40:54Speaker 6: it's half a teacher bar.
- 40:55Speaker 3: I mean the amount of stunt performers I know who
- 40:58Speaker 3: are romantically involved with a teacher because we just get
- 41:01Speaker 3: each other.
- 41:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 41:02Speaker 5: I always say, what is so wrong with me that
- 41:04Speaker 5: I'm constantly dating teachers? There's something you know, not no, no,
- 41:09Speaker 5: But it's like, oh, that's all I'm in practice?
- 41:11Speaker 8: Too, you know what I mean, the adrenaline junkie.
- 41:15Speaker 5: Yeah, And it's the same dating patterns every time I'm
- 41:17Speaker 5: dating a teacher. They don't have enough time for me.
- 41:19Speaker 5: The only with their kids. They just want to borrow
- 41:21Speaker 5: pins from me to papers.
- 41:24Speaker 2: But on the other side, I mean they have to
- 41:25Speaker 2: deal with us, you know, Somer Sultan everywhere right and
- 41:28Speaker 2: falling and doing all that stuff.
- 41:29Speaker 8: When's the last time you walked?
- 41:31Speaker 6: I can't remember?
- 41:33Speaker 7: Yeah, all right, guys, what's your dream stunt?
- 41:37Speaker 2: God?
- 41:38Speaker 7: Oh god, dream stunt, dream past, dream rags or anything.
- 41:42Speaker 6: You want for me?
- 41:44Speaker 2: I would like to park Or in space because I
- 41:46Speaker 2: know we're getting close with Space X and all these projects,
- 41:49Speaker 2: and I think with Mission Impossible and all these things,
- 41:52Speaker 2: we're getting really close to space. And if I could
- 41:55Speaker 2: park Or in space, I think I would really make
- 41:57Speaker 2: my my friends are two lane proud, you know.
- 42:00Speaker 6: Can I see your question about that?
- 42:01Speaker 8: Yeah, Parker in space it seems like it kind of
- 42:04Speaker 8: loses sort of what is zero stakes of falling down?
- 42:10Speaker 8: Park in space seems like just kind of moving around
- 42:13Speaker 8: in space.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And that's that's the most interesting thing about it is
- 42:16Speaker 2: because it's gonna flip Parkour in its head. Wow, rather
- 42:19Speaker 2: than the fear of falling down, your fear the fear
- 42:23Speaker 2: of getting stuck. You know what if you don't what
- 42:26Speaker 2: if you miss the handhold and you just start floating
- 42:29Speaker 2: in space for the rest of your life.
- 42:30Speaker 8: Wow, that is actually very frightened.
- 42:34Speaker 5: That will keep me up at night.
- 42:37Speaker 2: So space, PARKERP Is kind of like my big, big
- 42:39Speaker 2: dream right now.
- 42:40Speaker 1: So yeah, wow, I want to open mouth kiss John mulaney.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Lots of people don't know this. He gets more colds
- 42:48Speaker 1: than anybody in the industry, so.
- 42:50Speaker 6: I would know that. He looks like a guy who
- 42:52Speaker 6: gets cold.
- 42:52Speaker 4: He not major ones, he just you know, seasonal stuff.
- 42:56Speaker 1: It seems like, yeah, you just comedians get sick a lot,
- 43:00Speaker 1: and musicians because you know they're in they're in hotels.
- 43:04Speaker 4: They're in hotels all the time.
- 43:05Speaker 7: Tails all this time.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Yeah, my dreams time.
- 43:11Speaker 7: I've thought about it for so long.
- 43:13Speaker 3: It's really specific, but dream rolls be specific, manifest Okay,
- 43:16Speaker 3: So it's a car with the window open a little bit,
- 43:21Speaker 3: just a tad bit, like.
- 43:22Speaker 7: The driver forgot to put it all the way up.
- 43:24Speaker 3: And in the movie for some reason, the characters like
- 43:27Speaker 3: we got to get in that car.
- 43:28Speaker 7: I slide through the car. I make my ass I
- 43:31Speaker 7: can't wait.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Wow, do you slide through the car? Through through the window?
- 43:35Speaker 7: Okay, I make my body so petite. I go through
- 43:38Speaker 7: the window. I get in the car.
- 43:40Speaker 3: We drive, and then I drive over the Brooklyn Bridge.
- 43:45Speaker 7: Land in the land, in the in the ocean, in
- 43:48Speaker 7: the river.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I want to drive over the bridge, then turn around
- 43:52Speaker 1: and then get back.
- 43:53Speaker 4: In the ocean.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Land and the ocean and need to get out of
- 43:56Speaker 3: the car because it's sinking and have to go back
- 44:00Speaker 3: through the window, slice fly up land.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Oh my god, you should.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Write that movie. It seems like very specific. I don't
- 44:06Speaker 1: know if it's just going to come around by chair.
- 44:08Speaker 3: This is one of those things where it's like, those
- 44:09Speaker 3: are my gifts. So I would think of a stunt
- 44:11Speaker 3: that's like based off of my gifts.
- 44:12Speaker 2: You know. Well, I did hear about this movie that's
- 44:15Speaker 2: coming out called kid Heist. Maybe you could pitch that
- 44:18Speaker 2: to them.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Oh that's incredible. I'll pitch that to the movie. I've
- 44:23Speaker 3: always wanted to pitch to a movie a big stunt.
- 44:25Speaker 7: Yeah, it's incredible. What about you, guys?
- 44:27Speaker 5: God, I mean.
- 44:31Speaker 8: I'd love to be blown out of something at this point.
- 44:34Speaker 8: I've been sucked into a lot of machinery.
- 44:37Speaker 4: It would be good to expand.
- 44:38Speaker 8: And to that end, I think I want to be
- 44:40Speaker 8: in a quantum mania, you know. Uh, I want to
- 44:44Speaker 8: be shrunking down and putting a bullet and shot out
- 44:47Speaker 8: of a gun.
- 44:48Speaker 6: And because I've heard that movie, it's all practical and you've.
- 44:52Speaker 5: Got to be practical. They got.
- 44:53Speaker 8: You should see these little cameras they got.
- 44:56Speaker 5: I wish I could. I can't. I can't with my
- 45:00Speaker 5: I can't even it's right there.
- 45:02Speaker 8: Well, yeah, shooting in eight k.
- 45:06Speaker 5: Crazy. Tell me when I'm touching it.
- 45:09Speaker 8: Hey, watch out.
- 45:10Speaker 5: Okay, you broke it.
- 45:13Speaker 6: I just let you have one of those.
- 45:15Speaker 5: They how do you feel it?
- 45:19Speaker 8: They didn't know she replaced it with a crumb?
- 45:24Speaker 6: What kind of crumb it was? Yeah? What kind of crumb?
- 45:28Speaker 8: Was the crust of a peach cobbler?
- 45:33Speaker 6: One of the most iconic crumbs, I'll.
- 45:34Speaker 7: Say the Yeah, it's amazing.
- 45:39Speaker 5: I want to do some deathbed stuff. I'm tired of
- 45:42Speaker 5: running around. I think I'd love to do some sort
- 45:45Speaker 5: of stunt where I'm just lying in bed.
- 45:47Speaker 6: Yeah that's a stunt person.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I can hold my breath for about twenty five minutes.
- 45:53Speaker 5: So right now, I'd like to transition to just playing
- 45:56Speaker 5: dead bodies. God, you know what.
- 45:58Speaker 8: That reminds me of. I would love to see you
- 46:00Speaker 8: die in Avatar.
- 46:02Speaker 5: I would love to die in Avatar. He'd be thank
- 46:04Speaker 5: you guys. You guys really think I could die in Avatar.
- 46:07Speaker 3: If you could not tell everybody you're a woman, like
- 46:09Speaker 3: it would be a little off putting if you kept
- 46:11Speaker 3: reminding everyone you're a gender.
- 46:13Speaker 5: I will not die as a woman. Why because I
- 46:17Speaker 5: will die as a man. Because I couldn't die as
- 46:20Speaker 5: a woman. I'm not a woman, and I don't want
- 46:22Speaker 5: people to think I am.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Okay, all right, different different times.
- 46:28Speaker 5: Sometimes I feel like I should be dead, you know,
- 46:31Speaker 5: all the times I was thrown off trains or shot
- 46:36Speaker 5: in the head, or.
- 46:38Speaker 8: You're one hundred and twenty three years old.
- 46:39Speaker 5: I'm one hundred and twenty three and the oldest man alive.
- 46:42Speaker 5: Sometimes I feel like I should be dead. So maybe
- 46:44Speaker 5: I should just go ahead and take one final stunt.
- 46:47Speaker 4: And go, yeah, do your Swan song exactly.
- 46:50Speaker 5: I'm the past. Avatar, that's the future, you know, Avatar,
- 46:55Speaker 5: That's That's one of the best movies of the next
- 46:57Speaker 5: ten years, I guarantee you.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Wow yeah, waits Oh my gosh, it looks like somebody
- 47:04Speaker 2: with a gun is walked in.
- 47:05Speaker 1: What wait, what the fuck are you talking about?
- 47:11Speaker 6: Like we should use our stunts to get him out
- 47:13Speaker 6: of here? Uh parcourut me in your gun?
- 47:18Speaker 5: Okay here, see you later, fucker.
