Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, most people think the risk is in the action, but the risk is truly in the waiting.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Today, let's just talk about the cost of waiting.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: A few years ago, I'm looking at a real estate opportunity and the numbers weren't perfect, the timing wasn't right, the market wasn't on that perfect trajectory.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: And if I'm to be honest, you know, I wasn't completely comfortable.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Action creates clarity.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I, identity, build through your decisions, time, you know, T, time.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't care.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: That's just, that's just the hidden cost of waiting.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: If you're tired, not feeling fit.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Tired just not having to focus, tired just not having the life that you deserve.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: This is your place to be.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I'm Jason Jarussi.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Today, let's just talk about the cost of waiting.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: You know, a few years ago, I'm looking at a real estate opportunity and the numbers weren't perfect, the timing wasn't right, the market wasn't on that perfect trajectory.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And if I'm to be honest, you know, I wasn't completely comfortable.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And I started to do what most do when they're uncertain.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I just keep gathering information, right?
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Another call, another spreadsheet, another opinion, another week, then another week.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And I'm convinced myself that I was being responsible.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: What I was actually doing was delaying making a decision.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, someone else took the action, made a move, and they weren't smarter.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: They didn't have more information than me.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: They weren't simply to a fact of just better position.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: They just simply just decided, right?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And they got the opportunity.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And I got, well, I got frustration.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: But, you know, looking back, and what I know today is that opportunity turned out fantastic for them, right?
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And it was all the information I had for everything to work out perfect, everything to be in the right spot.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But I delayed, right?
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Delayed thinking that time ultimately would make me better positioned or feel better, right, about doing it when I knew it was the right opportunity to do.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And most opportunities, they don't disappear because they're bad.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: They disappear because someone else acted while we're still thinking, right?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: We're still giving us ourselves of just all this analysis, right?
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And analysis paralysis, it's a thing that you hear a lot in real estate, right?
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And it's present everywhere else, right?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Because it applies in health, relationships, business, faith, life.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And the opportunities we lose are not the ones that we should have pursued.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But if we just had waited longer, we would understand that that was the opportunity for us, right?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: We knew what to do.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: We just kept telling ourselves, right, we can't surely be certain, right?
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: We can't surely make a good choice because in ourselves, we've patterned ourselves to think that, oh, we only make bad decisions.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So if you think about this, right, wait.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Waiting is something that you only realize is too late when you're on your deathbed.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And if you think about this, like what are you waiting for?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Everyone listening has something.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: The business idea, the investment, the conversation you have to have, that workout program, the habit, the dream.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: It's the problem that you don't know.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: The problem you convince yourself that you need something else before you start.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Is it more money, more confidence, more certainty?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And you have to ask yourself, what am I waiting for?
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And I should already know.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: But what gives us this confidence?
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And it's the action.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: It's the action that creates the clarity.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Because one of the greatest lies that we always tell ourselves is that once I feel ready, I'll start.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: But if I ask you, what does feeling ready actually mean?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I can't truly answer that question.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Because readiness doesn't come first.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: The action comes first.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Every major breakthrough in my life has started before I felt ready, from buying my first deals to launching businesses to standing on stages to running hundreds of miles to just, I've never felt 100% unprepared.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: The clarity came after I just started moving because it was built on the identity that I created through these decisions.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Every action, it just creates this vote for who you're becoming, right?
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It gives you this little initiative to say, okay, I'm on the path.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: When you work out, you're not just exercising, you're becoming someone who just keeps the commitment.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I suddenly get up and run today.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Did you get up and run?
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Well, you're creating that active vote for yourself.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: When you have a difficult conversation, you're becoming more courageous.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: When you invest in yourself, become the type of person who just believes in your future.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: The identity, it's not found.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: It's not like you're like looking around, like, oh, I just can't figure out what I am and who I am.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, I found it, right?
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I was looking around the corner and there it is, right?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: It's built one decision at a time.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: The time, it doesn't care.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, the truth is, time moves whether you want to be on or not.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: If you're moving, you're moving with the time.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: If you're not, well, you're not.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And the calendar, it just doesn't pause while you're just figuring things out.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: We hear about people who just are constantly figuring things out, right?
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: The whole life is spent figuring things out, but nothing's ever figured out.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And you don't get to figure it out by just thinking about it over and over and over.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: It's the thought and then the action, right?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: And then what is the identity built through that action?
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: It's one year from now, will you be thinking, or you had started today, or would you be wishing you had?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: The time is it just it passes any different way, whether you're with it or not.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So if you look at that framework, wait, what are you waiting for?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: You know, action creates clarity.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I, identity built through your decisions, time, you know, T, time, it just doesn't care.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: That's just, that's just the hidden cost of waiting.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, most people think the risk is in the action, but the risk is truly in the waiting.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Waiting cost.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, low opportunities, low lost confidence, lost momentum, lost growth, right?
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Everything that you delay, the decision just becomes heavier and heavier and heavier, right?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: It becomes so heavy that it's like you have an elephant sitting upon you because you never just got the action.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So every day you give more and more reasons for you to have just bigger and bigger mountain to climb or the fear, it just grows so substantial.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: You can't break free.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: The excuse, it gets stronger.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: You know, the Knicks had this incredible win last night, incredible win in game four.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: It was just incredible, down by 29 points, largest deficit, right?
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: To ever come back in the NBA finals, most points scored by their team in the first half.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: And Jaden Brunson, they asked, you know, how did you do this?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And he said, Well, we just kept chipping away.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: It wasn't, oh, let me think about it, let me think about it, because the fear would have been, oh, we'll never come back from this.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: No one else has done it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: So how are we gonna do it?
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: It was that I will just keep chipping away.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: The team will just keep it away.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And we will believe, right?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: That if we just keep chipping away because it builds our identity.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: We got from, you know, 29 to 25 to 22 to 19.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: All of a sudden, you know, a minute left, they go up, right?
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Then they're down.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: And at that last point, 1.2 seconds left, they hit this magical tip in, right?
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: It was chipping away.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: They didn't just magically hit a 30-point shot and they're up, you know, by one after a 29-point deficit.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: They did something, right, about chipping away at that lead and just kept going a little bit.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And was it always in a positive direction?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: No, they went up.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Then the other team came back, scored a little bit.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: They went down, right?
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: They had some things go great, right?
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Then they had some things go bad.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Josh Hart gets a point where he gets this uh steal, goes for a fast break layup, right?
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: And misses the layup.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: And that would have put them up for the first time and he misses this layup, right?
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: And it could have just been like, oh, it wasn't our night.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I knew it wasn't our night because we had this chance, right?
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: They just went back and course corrected and kept chipping away.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Because if you let the excuses get stronger and you think about your journey being ruined, and there's this point where, you know, it just seems overwhelming.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Like the marathon, it felt overwhelming.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Then the ultra marathon felt ridiculous.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Then, you know, if I just focused on that entire race, like, oh, I have to do this long distance, I would have never, ever, ever started.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: But I focused on just getting from aid station to the aid station, right?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: One run, one mile, one day.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: And that's how big things get accomplished.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: It's not just all at once.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: It's just, it's this one sit decision at a time.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: And the truth, I mean, it's the same thing for your business, your finances, your health, your relationships.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself, I mean, for the next 24 hours, can you do this?
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Can you identify just one thing you're postponing?
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: One thing that's sitting in the back of your mind that if you think that if you just addressed it, it would improve your life.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Then just take one action, not the entire plan, just one action.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: One action, just one step.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Send me an email, make a call, schedule a meeting, start a workout, do 10 squats, submit an offer.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's this quote, right, which is just fantastic.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the second time is right now, today.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: That's life, right?
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: We could all get a set.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: I wish I did this a decade ago, but you could still start now.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Your future, it's not just waiting for this perfect condition.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: It's just it's waiting for you.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: It's waiting for a decision because the cost of action is temporary.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: But the cost of waiting can be your lifetime.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: That's why you have to go.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Four, three, two, one, go.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: All right, that's what I have for you today.
