- 2:24Speaker 3: It is All Willie Wednesday. We thank you for being
- 2:27Speaker 3: with us. This portion of the program is brought to
- 2:30Speaker 3: you by Radiant Dentistry. Scott Clendenin is here this afternoon.
- 2:37Speaker 3: We will have several topics to discuss. We have a
- 2:43Speaker 3: special guest for our entertainment segment coming up at the
- 2:51Speaker 3: bottom of the second hour. Astros, Yankees, baseball coming up
- 3:00Speaker 3: at 6 o'clock when we are finished this evening. So
- 3:04Speaker 3: we've got that going. And we're going to hear from
- 3:06Speaker 3: A & M transfer defensive back Jordan Shaw coming up
- 3:10Speaker 3: here in a little bit. SEC schools that bring back NFL, NBA,
- 3:19Speaker 3: or WNBA players to their programs will face steep discipline
- 3:25Speaker 3: Under a new policy apparently approved today by 16 members,
- 3:32Speaker 3: although LSU abstained from voting, it was 15 to nothing.
- 3:37Speaker 3: The penalties include a half-season suspension for the coach, a
- 3:42Speaker 3: fine that matches 50% of the sports annual budget, and
- 3:46Speaker 3: revocation of league voting rights. The member schools gave Commissioner
- 3:50Speaker 3: Greg Sankey the authority to oppose additional sanctions against as needed.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Pete Tample says SEC chancellors and presidents did vote 15
- 4:02Speaker 3: to nothing. LSU did abstain. The vote to approve the
- 4:08Speaker 3: new policy banning pro athletes was approved 16 to nothing.
- 4:13Speaker 3: ACC athletic directors met today. The ACC apparently is going
- 4:20Speaker 3: to join the SEC and Big Ten. Meanwhile, the NFL
- 4:27Speaker 3: has gotten involved in a surprising way to me. They
- 4:32Speaker 3: will inform its teams that any player who returns to
- 4:37Speaker 3: the college ranks will be prohibited from signing with any
- 4:42Speaker 3: NFL team that season. Adam Schefter says the league plans
- 4:47Speaker 3: to provide clarity to clubs at some point, reiterating rules
- 4:51Speaker 3: that remain unaltered despite a chaotic week in the NCAA.
- 4:58Speaker 3: The NFL holding special league meeting today will remind teams
- 5:02Speaker 3: of the rule that any player signed to an NFL
- 5:06Speaker 3: contract and is cut is a free agent. That player
- 5:13Speaker 3: may sign with another NFL team, the CFL, or return
- 5:20Speaker 3: to college. Any player cut by an NFL team who
- 5:25Speaker 3: returns to college this year will be considered a free
- 5:29Speaker 3: agent and won't be subject to future draft. All of
- 5:36Speaker 3: this involves... at least one A & M player, Bryson Warren, basketball,
- 5:44Speaker 3: has been granted a temporary restraining order by Judge John
- 5:52Speaker 3: Brick of the 272nd District Court declaring Warren eligible to
- 5:59Speaker 3: participate in men's basketball activities. A hearing on this TRO
- 6:06Speaker 3: was set for September 4th, which is a week from Friday.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So we will see what happens. The TRO to Warren
- 6:25Speaker 3: includes any member conferences, such as the SEC and the
- 6:30Speaker 3: definition of those that can't restrict eligibility for Warren next season.
- 6:35Speaker 3: It would prevent the SEC from applying its new eligibility policy,
- 6:42Speaker 3: but all of this will be held at the courthouse
- 6:44Speaker 3: September 4th. This is the issue that we've talked about
- 6:48Speaker 3: and college sports is facing. Athletes who don't like the
- 6:55Speaker 3: rules get a judge to allow them to do things
- 7:02Speaker 3: that shouldn't be allowed to be done. Rangers, White Sox tonight.
- 7:08Speaker 3: The Rangers lost last night's game in the first inning
- 7:12Speaker 3: with just a horrific start. Offensively, defensively, and pitching. The
- 7:20Speaker 3: Rangers are 66-67. They lasted less than 24 hours in
- 7:23Speaker 3: first place in the AL West. The Astros came from
- 7:32Speaker 3: way back to beat the Yankees last night, so they
- 7:35Speaker 3: are a half game up at 66-66. The Rangers are 66-67.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I said yesterday I will hold to this. The first
- 7:43Speaker 3: one to 81 wins the West. That would be a
- 7:45Speaker 3: 500 record. Jacob deGrom was terrible yesterday. The defense was terrible.
- 8:04Speaker 3: The base running was terrible. The team just showed up
- 8:10Speaker 3: not ready to play, and we've seen that for about
- 8:12Speaker 3: half the games this year, which is why they're kind
- 8:16Speaker 3: of a 500 team. Peter Lambert pitching for the Astros
- 8:22Speaker 3: tonight against Elmer Rodriguez of the Yankees. Astros are 2-2
- 8:30Speaker 3: against the Yankees so far this year. Of course, they
- 8:35Speaker 3: have won all four postseason series against the Yankees. The
- 8:39Speaker 3: Astros have owned the Yankees in postseason. Aggie football team
- 8:46Speaker 3: worked out this afternoon. I'm sorry, this morning. They will
- 8:52Speaker 3: work out again tomorrow morning. Coach Elko will be made
- 8:57Speaker 3: available after practice. And Marco Jones and Isaiah Horton will
- 9:04Speaker 3: also be available. Next week is game week as A
- 9:11Speaker 3: & M prepares to host Missouri State. Meanwhile, the American
- 9:17Speaker 3: Heart Association has announced the players who will be considered
- 9:26Speaker 3: Bear Bryant Players of Impact campaign, which will provide platforms
- 9:35Speaker 3: for athletes for health improvement and awareness, and among those,
- 9:42Speaker 3: Terry Bussey of Texas A & M. With its 2026
- 9:49Speaker 3: season now abruptly over and its future uncertain, Live Golf
- 9:57Speaker 3: told its employees today it is, quote, scaling back operations
- 10:02Speaker 3: and firing a significant number of positions. Not sure how
- 10:10Speaker 3: many will be impacted, but expecting the majority of its workforce.
- 10:18Speaker 3: In July, employees were notified this was a possibility, given
- 10:22Speaker 3: that the funding from Saudi Arabia was pulled. And I
- 10:32Speaker 3: don't know that this organization is going to be able
- 10:37Speaker 3: to continue. And a lot of you probably don't care,
- 10:42Speaker 3: or you're probably saying, yeah, good for TCU. TCU has
- 10:51Speaker 3: pulled credentials from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the hometown paper,
- 10:58Speaker 3: because they reported a locker room assault that resulted in
- 11:04Speaker 3: a case filing with campus police. Steven Johnson, who covers
- 11:11Speaker 3: the team for the newspaper, has been told that that
- 11:15Speaker 3: the decision stemmed from the victim receiving threats after the reporting.
- 11:20Speaker 3: But Johnson never identified the victim until the victim himself
- 11:27Speaker 3: made a public statement on Instagram three days after the assault.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Excuse me, three days after the reporting of the assault.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Johnson's trip to Ireland against North Carolina is still on,
- 11:45Speaker 3: despite TCU pulling his credential for the game. The SARD
- 11:51Speaker 3: telegram is the only full-time outlet covering TCU athletics. They
- 11:58Speaker 3: can't win this fight. We have seen this repeatedly when
- 12:05Speaker 3: schools don't like the reporting. They love the reporting when
- 12:13Speaker 3: they're writing glowing reviews, player profiles, giving them free publicity.
- 12:22Speaker 3: They love that. But by God, if you criticize the
- 12:29Speaker 3: home team, they are going to sometime take drastic action
- 12:37Speaker 3: because their feelings have been hurt. This won't stand. We've
- 12:43Speaker 3: seen this many times in the past. Sonny Dykes may
- 12:53Speaker 3: have made this call because he didn't like the story
- 12:55Speaker 3: coming out. I don't know that for a fact, but
- 13:00Speaker 3: I'm guessing that's true. Because he can be prickly.
- 13:08Speaker 11: Um.
- 13:10Speaker 3: But they're not going to win on this situation. It's
- 13:13Speaker 3: not going to happen. And I have said this, we
- 13:19Speaker 3: have discussed this with the writers and media people over
- 13:24Speaker 3: the years, that this adversarial relationship has gone on since
- 13:35Speaker 3: there were newspapers. It is a love-hate relationship. Like I said,
- 13:42Speaker 3: they love you when you're, quote, positive. They hate you
- 13:46Speaker 3: when you're, quote, negative. I have put up with this
- 13:53Speaker 3: every year of my career. And it's not going to change.
- 13:58Speaker 3: It's not ever going to change. And I don't know
- 14:02Speaker 3: why certain people and probably most universities and sporting organizations
- 14:12Speaker 3: think the media simply exists to serve them and their needs.
- 14:22Speaker 3: And it doesn't. There are very few watchdog reporters left.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Very few. There are some. But mostly the organizations are
- 14:40Speaker 3: an arm when we're talking about the universities. And they
- 14:46Speaker 3: are little more than PR organizations for the university. And
- 14:53Speaker 3: they sell their soul to, quote, get the scoops. God
- 14:59Speaker 3: help them if they have to criticize the home team.
- 15:04Speaker 3: That won't stand in Fort Worth. I'm not sure what's
- 15:07Speaker 3: going to happen exactly. I would think that the majority
- 15:15Speaker 3: of media outlets there would sympathize with the Star-Telegram's plight
- 15:25Speaker 3: right now and simply say, okay, we won't talk about you.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Good luck. Good luck. We won't cover your games. We
- 15:36Speaker 3: won't do interviews. We won't tell people you're playing a game.
- 15:40Speaker 3: We won't write about the game. And Godspeed to you.
- 15:46Speaker 3: All right. We'll take a break. We'll come back. This
- 15:49Speaker 3: portion of the program is brought to you by Chad
- 15:52Speaker 3: Jones Law.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt. And so
- 15:57Speaker 4: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 15:59Speaker 4: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 16:01Speaker 4: paying attention. It was their fault. And now you're left
- 16:04Speaker 4: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a
- 16:06Speaker 4: doctor and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help.
- 16:08Speaker 4: We've been helping our neighbors for more than two decades.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Stop getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember,
- 16:15Speaker 4: don't get mad.
- 16:15Speaker 12: Get Chad.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Call Chad Jones Law at 979-595-5000 or go online to ChadJonesLaw.com.
- 16:24Speaker 5: You love your Aggie football?
- 16:26Speaker 3: We do too.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Listen to every game on the Zone 1150 AM and 93.7 FM.
- 16:30Speaker 6: When I look.
- 16:41Speaker 7: Out over a green field of clover Oh, what's the
- 16:46Speaker 7: sunset at the end of the day? I get kind
- 16:54Speaker 7: of moody when I see such beauty, and everything's beautiful
- 17:01Speaker 7: in its own way.
- 17:02Speaker 13: When I see a fountain flow from a mountain, or
- 17:11Speaker 13: see April showers bring flowers to May, I can't help
- 17:20Speaker 13: but ponder Life is such a wonder And everything's beautiful
- 17:27Speaker 13: In its own way Words can't describe What I feel
- 17:36Speaker 13: inside When.
- 17:38Speaker 14: I see the beauty In each coming day.
- 17:46Speaker 15: What my eyes behold Can't be bought or sold.
- 17:51Speaker 7: Everything's beautiful in its own way. When I see the
- 18:05Speaker 7: clouds form a black summer windstorm That uproots the harvest
- 18:11Speaker 7: and hurls away In the midst of such anger, destruction
- 18:21Speaker 7: and danger The storm's even beautiful in its own way.
- 18:30Speaker 15: When I see the leaves drop from off of the
- 18:34Speaker 15: treetops or see the snow fall on a cold winter's day,
- 18:44Speaker 15: my thoughts seem to wander into the blue yonder. God
- 18:49Speaker 15: made all things beautiful in their own way. Words can't
- 18:58Speaker 15: describe what.
- 19:00Speaker 12: I feel inside when I see the beauty in each
- 19:05Speaker 12: coming day.
- 19:10Speaker 15: What my eyes behold can't be bought or sold.
- 19:15Speaker 13: Everything's beautiful in its own way.
- 19:23Speaker 12: In its own way. In its own way.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Dolly did a lot of duets in her career. Willie
- 19:38Speaker 3: did a lot of duets in his career. That was
- 19:43Speaker 3: one of the good ones. Dolly wrote that song, Everything
- 19:46Speaker 3: is Beautiful in Its Own Way. We've got a couple
- 19:48Speaker 3: of more. Uh, we're going to play you, uh, here
- 19:52Speaker 3: on all Willie Wednesday. Um, Dolly tells all kinds of
- 19:59Speaker 3: stories about Willie, who was already in Nashville when she
- 20:02Speaker 3: showed up there, uh, at age 17. Um, and, um,
- 20:10Speaker 3: They collaborated. They were kindred spirits, I think, because of
- 20:17Speaker 3: their songwriting ability. I've seen memes today in the social
- 20:22Speaker 3: media about, please put bubble wrap around Willie. You know,
- 20:32Speaker 3: but we'll play some more coming up. All right. We're
- 20:36Speaker 3: going to hear from Jordan Shaw, transferred defensive back. And again,
- 20:44Speaker 3: one of the strengths that going into the season, people
- 20:53Speaker 3: think about this A & M team is going to
- 20:56Speaker 3: be the secondary, the depth and the athleticism, both. Here's
- 21:02Speaker 3: Jordan Shaw.
- 21:04Speaker 11: Jordan, just, you know, can you take us through this offseason,
- 21:07Speaker 11: what you feel like your points of emphasis were to
- 21:09Speaker 11: get better and just kind of where you feel like
- 21:11Speaker 11: you've grown in your game?
- 21:13Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely. This offseason, I was just trying to really
- 21:17Speaker 5: learn to playbook in and out, get bigger, just be
- 21:20Speaker 5: more vocal on the field so I could be a
- 21:22Speaker 5: leader and push my teammates. And that's pretty much it,
- 21:25Speaker 5: just perfect my craft. So, yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 16: I mean, I've.
- 21:39Speaker 5: Just always been confident in myself. Like, my pops always
- 21:42Speaker 5: told me, like, be ready when your opportunity comes. So
- 21:45Speaker 5: I felt like that was my opportunity to show what
- 21:46Speaker 5: I could do, and I just made the most of it. Yeah, definitely.
- 21:59Speaker 5: I'm definitely confident in this secondary. I feel like we
- 22:01Speaker 5: got a lot of pieces. Ricky, for sure, he had
- 22:04Speaker 5: an amazing camp. He had a pick, I think, every day.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Chance Collins, he's a young guy. He had a pick
- 22:09Speaker 5: every day. Julian Humphrey, he's been having a good camp.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Just everybody. I feel like everybody in the secondary has
- 22:14Speaker 5: been doing good, so... Yep.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Have you always played nickel?
- 22:18Speaker 17: I think you played a little outside.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Early in college, right?
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 5: I played corner a little bit at UW, but mainly
- 22:27Speaker 5: nickel everywhere I've been. Even in high school, I played
- 22:30Speaker 5: safety a little bit, but when I went to the
- 22:31Speaker 5: All-American camp, that's when they put me at nickel, and
- 22:34Speaker 5: that's when I've just been playing it since.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yep.
- 22:40Speaker 5: I feel like it allows me to be versatile. I
- 22:42Speaker 5: could play man. I could drop zone. I could blitz.
- 22:45Speaker 5: I could play half. So it just let me be versatile.
- 22:48Speaker 11: What's it been like working alongside Bryce Anderson as a
- 22:52Speaker 11: guy who has a lot of experience?
- 22:55Speaker 5: No, yeah, definitely. Bryce, he's a good player. I feel
- 22:59Speaker 5: like everybody in our room are good players. We all
- 23:01Speaker 5: push each other, and we learn off of each other's mistakes,
- 23:03Speaker 5: and we just hold each other accountable. So having somebody
- 23:06Speaker 5: like him in our room is definitely beneficial for me.
- 23:09Speaker 11: What brought you to A & M and just kind
- 23:11Speaker 11: of your journey here to Aggieland?
- 23:15Speaker 5: I got to say it's the coaches. Coach BJ, he's
- 23:17Speaker 5: the one that recruited me. I just felt like the
- 23:19Speaker 5: coaches were genuine here. When I came on visit, Elko,
- 23:23Speaker 5: he wasn't like all the other coaches. I could tell
- 23:25Speaker 5: it was deeper than football. He cared about me as
- 23:27Speaker 5: a person. And I felt like it was a good
- 23:29Speaker 5: fit for me. Like SCC, that's like the best conference
- 23:31Speaker 5: you can play in. So I wanted to showcase my
- 23:33Speaker 5: talents on like the biggest stage you can.
- 23:36Speaker 17: We were talking about just maybe the deepest, best secondary
- 23:39Speaker 17: he's coached since he's been at Texas A & M.
- 23:40Speaker 3: What does that mean for you to hear that and
- 23:42Speaker 3: your potential to.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Be a big piece of that? I mean, it means
- 23:45Speaker 5: a lot. Him saying that, I know I'm going to
- 23:48Speaker 5: play a big role in that defense, so it just
- 23:50Speaker 5: makes me go harder. I just got to stay on
- 23:52Speaker 5: top of everything and just be the best player I
- 23:54Speaker 5: can be.
- 23:55Speaker 11: How much has it been challenging to go against guys
- 23:58Speaker 11: like Mario Fravor or Terry Bussey?
- 24:01Speaker 5: Yeah. It's definitely a challenge. I feel like it's beneficial
- 24:05Speaker 5: for me, though, because I honestly feel like those are
- 24:08Speaker 5: the best receivers I'm going to go against all season.
- 24:10Speaker 5: So practicing against them every day is just getting me better.
- 24:13Speaker 5: So where I go against somebody in the game, it's
- 24:15Speaker 5: like nothing I ain't seen.
- 24:16Speaker 11: How do you feel like last year went for you
- 24:20Speaker 11: as a guy who was maybe splitting some reps with
- 24:22Speaker 11: Tyreek and just how you felt.
- 24:24Speaker 17: Like that all played out for you?
- 24:26Speaker 5: I mean, I feel like last year, I mean, it
- 24:29Speaker 5: was good. I got a chance to learn behind somebody
- 24:31Speaker 5: that was older than me and learn from his mistakes.
- 24:35Speaker 5: And then when my chance would come, I was able
- 24:38Speaker 5: to do it.
- 24:38Speaker 3: So this year, what does it mean personally for you?
- 24:43Speaker 17: What are some of the aspirations, the goals, and the mindset?
- 24:46Speaker 5: My main goal is just to put my name out there.
- 24:48Speaker 5: I feel like I'm a slept-on player. Nobody really knows
- 24:50Speaker 5: me like that. So I'm just trying to make the
- 24:53Speaker 5: most of my opportunities and just put my name out there.
- 24:55Speaker 10: Jordan, how has fatherhood changed the way you go.
- 24:58Speaker 17: About your business?
- 24:59Speaker 5: I mean, shoot, it's honestly the biggest blessing. Like, it'd
- 25:02Speaker 5: be hard for me to leave in the morning. Like,
- 25:04Speaker 5: he'd be sleeping on me. I'd be having to move
- 25:06Speaker 5: him and stuff. But, honestly, it's just my motivation. It
- 25:08Speaker 5: keeps me going every day, and it's really just a
- 25:11Speaker 5: blessing for me. How old is your son, and what's
- 25:14Speaker 5: his name? He's five months. His name is Elias. He
- 25:16Speaker 5: turns six months on the 12th. So, yep.
- 25:21Speaker 9: Elias, yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 17: You mentioned not being talked about enough. What do you
- 25:27Speaker 17: think fans will know about you after the season?
- 25:30Speaker 14: What do you think they'll be known for the most?
- 25:33Speaker 5: I mean, shoot, I'm trying to get picks. I'm trying
- 25:36Speaker 5: to make plays. So I just want fans to think
- 25:38Speaker 5: of me as a playmaker, somebody that gets the ball back.
- 25:41Speaker 18: Is there any game you're looking forward to this season?
- 25:45Speaker 5: I'm just taking it one week at a time. I'm
- 25:47Speaker 5: looking forward to every game because it's an opportunity for
- 25:49Speaker 5: me to make plays.
- 25:51Speaker 11: What do you see for Bravion this offseason, just kind
- 25:53Speaker 11: of maybe how you guys push each other at that position?
- 25:56Speaker 5: Yeah, Bravion, he's one of my closest teammates on the team,
- 26:00Speaker 5: closest friends on the team, so I've seen him grow.
- 26:03Speaker 5: He's looked like a whole different player this year compared
- 26:05Speaker 5: to last year. He's faster, stronger, and he pushes me,
- 26:08Speaker 5: I push him, so we're together in this.
- 26:10Speaker 6: Talking about the battles with the wide receivers.
- 26:12Speaker 1: What does Marcel look like this camp and just how
- 26:14Speaker 1: much of a challenge has he been going against them?
- 26:17Speaker 5: Marcel, he's looking amazing. His accuracy better. He's out there
- 26:20Speaker 5: moving faster, making the right reads. It looked like he
- 26:23Speaker 5: got a little bigger, so shoot, it's going to be
- 26:25Speaker 5: a good year for him.
- 26:27Speaker 11: And Bill told us that you had a lot of
- 26:28Speaker 11: battles with KC in practice last year, just having to
- 26:31Speaker 11: guard him. What was the hardest thing about guarding him
- 26:35Speaker 11: and just maybe how you.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Got better by doing that? Shoot, KC... He's got one speed.
- 26:41Speaker 5: That's fast. So, you know, I feel like he'll never
- 26:43Speaker 5: get tired. So we'll do tempo. He'll take me deep.
- 26:46Speaker 5: I'm right there. And he'll come right back to us.
- 26:48Speaker 5: So everything he do is just full speed. So I
- 26:51Speaker 5: feel like that was his most thing.
- 26:54Speaker 6: Why were you so successful covering Tony when so many
- 26:59Speaker 6: other guys throughout the nation couldn't?
- 27:03Speaker 5: I mean, I feel like Coach BJ, he did a
- 27:05Speaker 5: good job of game-planning him. We had a lot of
- 27:08Speaker 5: cut-ups on him, and we just really just watched everything
- 27:11Speaker 5: he do and tried to, like, practice after practice. So
- 27:16Speaker 5: I feel like Coach BJ helped me prepare for that good.
- 27:19Speaker 11: Despite the loss, what is an individual performance like that,
- 27:23Speaker 11: being able to hold a guy like that, check like
- 27:26Speaker 11: you did, do for your maybe morale going into the offseason?
- 27:30Speaker 5: I mean, it– It gave me confidence because, like, it
- 27:33Speaker 5: showed me I'm able to do it. But at the
- 27:35Speaker 5: end of the day, I wanted to win. So I
- 27:37Speaker 5: wasn't even worried about my individual success. I was more
- 27:40Speaker 5: worried about the loss. So it was kind of just
- 27:42Speaker 5: hurtful to lose, honestly.
- 27:44Speaker 19: What do you feel like is the biggest strength of
- 27:46Speaker 19: the secondary?
- 27:48Speaker 5: Shoot, we got depth. And I feel like everybody could go, like,
- 27:52Speaker 5: from the older guys to the younger guys. Like, if
- 27:56Speaker 5: you throw anybody in there, I feel like they're going
- 27:57Speaker 5: to make plays and they're ready. So we got a
- 27:59Speaker 5: lot of depth.
- 28:00Speaker 7: So, yep.
- 28:04Speaker 3: That is Jordan Shaw and he got everyone's attention in
- 28:10Speaker 3: the Miami playoff game when he was shadowing Malachi Tony
- 28:17Speaker 3: and the job that he did covering him throughout that game.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Malachi Tony ended up making a play but it was
- 28:29Speaker 3: running the ball on a reverse sweep not catching the
- 28:33Speaker 3: ball but my feeling is if you can keep Malachi
- 28:40Speaker 3: Toney under wraps for the majority of the game, you're
- 28:44Speaker 3: probably pretty good. And I think he caught the attention
- 28:49Speaker 3: of the entire coaching staff last December doing that. Coming up,
- 28:58Speaker 3: Scott Clinton is going to join us. We have a
- 29:00Speaker 3: special guest. entertainment guest this afternoon. And we've got Astros
- 29:10Speaker 3: Yankees baseball tomorrow. We have our Clark Eisenhower outdoor edition.

- 29:34Speaker 3: on the show tomorrow. We will have a high school

- 29:44Speaker 3: probably hear from Mike Elko tomorrow. So he will be
- 29:50Speaker 3: available to the media after their scheduled practice. So we
- 29:54Speaker 3: got that going on for us, which is nice. Sevchuk

- 33:16Speaker 3: have you with us. Scott Clendenin is with us on
- 33:20Speaker 3: the program. Why don't we get the baseball stuff out
- 33:23Speaker 3: of the way, can we?
- 33:24Speaker 4: Sure.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Let's get the baseball stuff out of the way. I
- 33:30Speaker 3: still say first one to 81 wins the West.
- 33:33Speaker 6: I don't know if it'll be 81.
- 33:35Speaker 3: May not.
- 33:36Speaker 6: I think I told you three weeks ago.
- 33:38Speaker 3: You said that Houston and Texas were going to tie.
- 33:42Speaker 6: Were going to tie.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:43Speaker 19: And that the Astros with the tiebreaker could go. But
- 33:49Speaker 19: at that point in time, I did not think that
- 33:52Speaker 19: the Astros would get above 81. No, I did not
- 33:54Speaker 19: think they would get above 81.
- 33:55Speaker 5: And....
- 33:57Speaker 3: You didn't know that they would do it without a
- 33:59Speaker 3: general manager and a manager that's on his way out?
- 34:05Speaker 6: Unless they win.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Well, what would winning mean? I mean, when you say win,
- 34:12Speaker 3: how deep would they have to go for Espada to
- 34:15Speaker 3: keep his job?
- 34:16Speaker 6: ALCS.
- 34:18Speaker 3: So winning a wild card, winning a division.
- 34:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 34:25Speaker 3: And getting into the A's. You think he would keep
- 34:28Speaker 3: his job?
- 34:30Speaker 19: But as we have talked about, not just with the Astros,
- 34:33Speaker 19: but with the Rangers as well, these two teams have
- 34:38Speaker 19: stunk against the A's and the Angels, and that is
- 34:42Speaker 19: what has put them in the position they're in. The
- 34:44Speaker 19: Astros' record against teams above. 500 is like 10 games
- 34:49Speaker 19: better than their record of teams below.
- 34:51Speaker 6: 500.
- 34:54Speaker 3: I think the Rangers are pretty similar.
- 34:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 34:58Speaker 19: So if either of them had handled their business against
- 35:02Speaker 19: the A's and the Angels, then they would be fine. But,
- 35:09Speaker 19: you know, Houston struggled with Detroit and Minnesota and Kansas
- 35:14Speaker 19: City and.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Toronto. So, I mean.
- 35:21Speaker 19: They played well against Tampa. They played well against the Yankees.
- 35:24Speaker 19: They played well against the White Sox. They played well
- 35:28Speaker 19: against the Rangers.
- 35:31Speaker 6: So why would I think that if they got in
- 35:35Speaker 6: the playoffs that they couldn't compete?
- 35:37Speaker 3: This is what I was looking for. Since April the 14th,
- 35:43Speaker 3: after a 1-9 road trip to start the season. Okay.
- 35:48Speaker 3: The Astros are 32-22 on the road.
- 35:50Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Now, that means they're 33-31. 33-35 at home. And 33-35
- 35:56Speaker 3: at home.
- 35:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 35:56Speaker 3: The Rangers, unfortunately, are, I think, eight games over... At home?
- 36:15Speaker 6: Seven.
- 36:16Speaker 3: They're seven games over at home?
- 36:18Speaker 6: And eight under.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And eight under on the road. Right. They're 30 and
- 36:21Speaker 3: 38 on the road.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Yes.
- 36:23Speaker 3: They have, I did see this yesterday, I believe, maybe
- 36:29Speaker 3: the fifth toughest schedule in September. The Astros schedule turns around.
- 36:39Speaker 3: getting into september right the the rangers i just what
- 36:43Speaker 3: i'm saying yeah i know you can't you can't use
- 36:46Speaker 3: that normally you'd say oh man that i tell you
- 36:50Speaker 3: as the easiest schedule statistically and that's seattle yes it's
- 36:55Speaker 3: september right they're two and a half out and cal
- 36:59Speaker 3: raleigh's had four home runs in the last two games
- 37:02Speaker 3: i don't know if that's going to mean anything He
- 37:05Speaker 3: is so far down. But.
- 37:07Speaker 6: You mean when they were stealing signs? I'm telling you if...
- 37:12Speaker 6: He hadn't hit one today.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Did they lose today?
- 37:15Speaker 6: Well, they're getting shut out 6-0. Good. Good?
- 37:19Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm worried about everybody. I'm worried about Oakland.
- 37:25Speaker 6: I'm worried about L.A.
- 37:27Speaker 5: L.A.
- 37:27Speaker 6: And Oakland are out.
- 37:28Speaker 3: So.
- 37:33Speaker 3: They still need him to beat Cal Raleigh, and I
- 37:35Speaker 3: just don't think that's going to happen. We were all
- 37:39Speaker 3: excited about Corey Seager. He was carrying the team there
- 37:44Speaker 3: for a little while, which everybody said, well, he has
- 37:46Speaker 3: to do if they're going to go to the playoffs.
- 37:50Speaker 3: And then last night, he just looked completely lost, just
- 37:53Speaker 3: absolutely like he had looked right after he came back,
- 37:58Speaker 3: right before he was hurt, like he's looked most of
- 38:00Speaker 3: the season, hitting below. 200. He upped his average to
- 38:03Speaker 3: about 229 or something like that, I think.
- 38:08Speaker 6: Yeah. Peaked.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Peaked at 229. Yeah. Did you realize there are only
- 38:15Speaker 3: five players in the American League hitting 300 or better?
- 38:18Speaker 18: Yes.
- 38:19Speaker 3: And in fairness, in the National League, I think there's nine.
- 38:23Speaker 5: Yes.
- 38:24Speaker 6: They need to lower them out.
- 38:25Speaker 3: No one's hitting.
- 38:26Speaker 6: They need to lower them out.
- 38:27Speaker 3: You think?
- 38:28Speaker 18: Yes.
- 38:29Speaker 3: No one's hitting.
- 38:30Speaker 6: MLB's done this before.
- 38:32Speaker 17: They have.
- 38:32Speaker 6: Lower them out.
- 38:33Speaker 3: They have done things before to try to get more
- 38:36Speaker 3: offense into the game. And you think that's the solution
- 38:40Speaker 3: right now?
- 38:40Speaker 19: It created more offense in 1970 than they had in 1969, Chip.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Right.
- 38:47Speaker 6: I know that's worked.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Yeah. They've enlarged the bases. They've tried to, you know,
- 38:56Speaker 3: they've limited how many times a pitcher can hold a
- 38:58Speaker 3: runner on.
- 38:59Speaker 6: Can't steal first base, Chip.
- 39:00Speaker 3: You cannot steal first base. True.
- 39:03Speaker 6: It's the oldest.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you got to hit.
- 39:06Speaker 7: Yes.
- 39:08Speaker 3: And there's not a lot of hitting.
- 39:11Speaker 6: But some pitchers have not been able to use the ABS.
- 39:16Speaker 6: They have not been able to adjust to it.
- 39:19Speaker 3: That's absolutely true. And I still don't understand what within
- 39:28Speaker 3: each team. what kind of rules there are. Managers will
- 39:33Speaker 3: tell you, oh, we're leaving that to the players.
- 39:34Speaker 5: Right.
- 39:35Speaker 3: But but yet I watch all these games and I'm going, OK,
- 39:39Speaker 3: so last night's perfect example. I'm watching last night's ninth inning.
- 39:43Speaker 3: The Rangers have two outs, and they ended up putting
- 39:47Speaker 3: a tying run. They loaded the bases. They're down four runs,
- 39:50Speaker 3: but they loaded the bases in the ninth inning. Okay?
- 39:55Speaker 6: Have DeGrom hit.
- 39:57Speaker 3: With one out, I forget who's up. And this umpire
- 40:04Speaker 3: has been terrible all night. They have.
- 40:07Speaker 6: Successfully overturned.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Successfully overturned probably six or eight pitches between the two teams.
- 40:13Speaker 6: So you just think he's bad if you're a player.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I mean, he wasn't real consistent. Let's put it that way.
- 40:20Speaker 3: But the players have made good choices, basically, right?
- 40:24Speaker 6: Both teams.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Both teams.
- 40:26Speaker 5: Yes.
- 40:27Speaker 3: And then in the ninth inning, and maybe there was, yeah,
- 40:30Speaker 3: I think the bases were loaded. The count is either...
- 40:37Speaker 3: It could have been 0-1. It was a pitcher's count.
- 40:40Speaker 3: And he throws one up and out of the strike zone.
- 40:44Speaker 3: And there's two outs in the ninth. And I'm going, gosh,
- 40:47Speaker 3: if you're going to use an ABS, now would seem
- 40:50Speaker 3: to be a good time to do it, right? Yes.
- 40:52Speaker 3: You're behind. You're down to your last batter.
- 40:55Speaker 6: And in extra innings, you're going to get it back anyway.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't know that. Yes. They get a challenge?
- 41:00Speaker 6: They get a challenge back. Does this make you feel better?
- 41:03Speaker 5: No.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Yeah no it doesn't make me feel better why but
- 41:07Speaker 3: you don't wait well you don't wait anyway when you're
- 41:10Speaker 3: behind in the ninth inning you can't wait oh well
- 41:13Speaker 3: if i he didn't challenge you know he didn't challenge
- 41:16Speaker 3: the pitch well he he weakly you know bounced out
- 41:18Speaker 3: the game's over but i'm going man if you don't
- 41:21Speaker 3: challenge a pitch in this situation and i and a
- 41:25Speaker 3: lot of it they've they've left to the to the
- 41:28Speaker 3: catcher to challenge those pitches. You know, the pitchers don't
- 41:31Speaker 3: challenge many pitchers.
- 41:33Speaker 6: I think they see with their heart a lot more
- 41:34Speaker 6: than they.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Do with their eyes. And there's no doubt about that.
- 41:37Speaker 3: I think that's a good thing. Yes. But the batters,
- 41:40Speaker 3: you know, when you're batting.
- 41:41Speaker 6: DeGrom couldn't have challenged some pitches last night?
- 41:43Speaker 3: No, he went close enough to challenge pitches.
- 41:46Speaker 6: He couldn't have said, hey, you called that a strike? No, no,
- 41:49Speaker 6: I'm saying he delivers, it's called a strike, and he says, hey,
- 41:52Speaker 6: I challenge because I think.
- 41:54Speaker 3: I'm throwing another ball. I will say this, if it
- 41:56Speaker 3: was a slider, it wasn't no strike last night. But
- 42:00Speaker 3: I will say, as terrible as he was, probably the
- 42:04Speaker 3: worst of his career, the average bat speed when he
- 42:10Speaker 3: was down 6-0 was, was 72 miles per hour. There
- 42:15Speaker 3: were some chinks and chunks last night that you're going,
- 42:19Speaker 3: that is, now, he didn't say anything. He didn't say
- 42:24Speaker 3: anything about it. He goes, I was just terrible. And
- 42:27Speaker 3: he was, because he could not find his out pitch.
- 42:31Speaker 3: He could not throw a slider anywhere near to get
- 42:35Speaker 3: them to chase or anywhere near the plate. But still, man,
- 42:39Speaker 3: oh man, there were a lot of just Just like taps.
- 42:43Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:44Speaker 14: Yes.
- 42:44Speaker 3: It's like everything fell in at one time. All right,
- 42:49Speaker 3: that's enough baseball for now. You sure?
- 42:51Speaker 6: We didn't even get to talk about my Astros coming
- 42:54Speaker 6: from behind to beat the Yankees. You've got to love that.
- 42:57Speaker 3: No, I hated that.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Why?
- 42:59Speaker 6: You hate the Yankees.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Weren't they down 6-0?
- 43:01Speaker 6: No, it wasn't 6-0.
- 43:04Speaker 3: I knew they were down pretty good, right?
- 43:05Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 43:07Speaker 6: No, they had scored a couple runs. And how about.
- 43:10Speaker 19: that, you know, it wasn't Alvarez and it wasn't Peña
- 43:13Speaker 19: to get it going for the Astros last night.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Who was it? Christian Walker.
- 43:18Speaker 17: No.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Your favorite player.
- 43:19Speaker 6: No, it was not. It was Vasquez.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 43:23Speaker 6: Vasquez had two home runs and a double.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Go figure. Well, it is the Yankees.
- 43:31Speaker 6: Well, he did hit one home run to the shortest.
- 43:35Speaker 6: To the short porch. The opposite field to right to
- 43:39Speaker 6: the second shortest spot in the league. I think it
- 43:43Speaker 6: would have gone out in Boston, and it would have gone.
- 43:46Speaker 19: Out probably in Texas, in addition to the Yankees. Because
- 43:51Speaker 19: people forget how short it is to the right field
- 43:54Speaker 19: corner in Arlington.
- 43:56Speaker 14: Meh.
- 43:57Speaker 3: I don't know how short it is.
- 43:59Speaker 6: Yeah, you should. It's somebody's number.
- 44:02Speaker 3: It is?
- 44:02Speaker 6: Like 312 feet.
- 44:03Speaker 17: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Who's number 12?
- 44:05Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 44:06Speaker 6: Or 11? I don't know. But, I mean, when you.
- 44:08Speaker 19: Start giving people the distances on the fence for people's numbers,
- 44:14Speaker 19: you know, well, it's a good thing that he wasn't
- 44:16Speaker 19: number six.
- 44:17Speaker 3: So where's the Crawford boxes? How far are they? I
- 44:20Speaker 3: know they're raised, but how far?
- 44:21Speaker 5: 325 feet. Really? Yeah.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Seriously?
- 44:27Speaker 6: 315? Okay.
- 44:30Speaker 3: What are the dimensions, Stan?
- 44:33Speaker 17: So the dimensions to left?
- 44:35Speaker 3: Right field.
- 44:35Speaker 17: Right field?
- 44:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 17: Right field line, 226, right field power alley. No, 326.
- 44:39Speaker 17: 326 and right field power alley is 374.
- 44:40Speaker 3: So 326 isn't that short to me. What is left?
- 44:41Speaker 17: Where's the left field? Left field is 329.
- 44:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 17: So who was 29? One of them was the manager.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Who had cancer. Johnny Oates.
- 44:57Speaker 6: Johnny Oates.
- 44:58Speaker 3: Whichever.
- 44:59Speaker 6: He was 29 or 26.
- 45:00Speaker 17: It goes off of Adrian Beltre's number.
- 45:02Speaker 6: That's Adrian Beltre.
- 45:03Speaker 17: The other one is Johnny Oates.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:06Speaker 6: It's Johnny Oates.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:07Speaker 6: So it's a good thing that Johnny Oates didn't wear six.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Look at Houston. Look at, what do they call it now? Dicon.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Minute May.
- 45:14Speaker 6: Minute May Park.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Look at Dicon and get the left field, down the
- 45:22Speaker 3: left field line in Dicon Park. I finally decided I'm
- 45:27Speaker 3: calling it Daikon because it seems that the organization has,
- 45:32Speaker 3: as an organization, decided that it's Daikon and not Daikon.
- 45:37Speaker 6: Are you sure? Yeah.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Down left field line.
- 45:40Speaker 17: 315. Yep.
- 45:42Speaker 3: 315.
- 45:43Speaker 17: And the height of the left field wall is 19 feet.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Okay.
- 45:48Speaker 21: Um.
- 45:49Speaker 19: So you have to hit it like 330 feet to
- 45:51Speaker 19: actually go out. And once again, the Astros have had
- 45:55Speaker 19: no home runs into the first row this year. Nine
- 46:01Speaker 19: opponents have hit a home run into the first row.
- 46:03Speaker 19: The Astros have hit zero. It's a Crawford box special
- 46:08Speaker 19: is what they call it, where it only goes out
- 46:10Speaker 19: in Houston, and it's opponents nine and Houston zero this year.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the Astros' fault. For not taking advantage. Okay,
- 46:19Speaker 3: we'll take a break. Speaking of the Astros, the Astros
- 46:23Speaker 3: report is brought to you by Premier Countertop Design.

- 46:58Speaker 1: I'm Jett Nelson with your Houston Astros report. Houston scored
- 47:02Speaker 1: early and often against the Yankees to take game one
- 47:04Speaker 1: of the series. Details are coming up next.
- 47:08Speaker 12: Drinking and driving, that's the DWI.
- 47:12Speaker 3: THC and driving, DWI. But it's not just alcohol and THC.
- 47:17Speaker 9: Pills.
- 47:18Speaker 17: Benzos.
- 47:19Speaker 5: Molly.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Meth.
- 47:21Speaker 9: Fentanyl.
- 47:22Speaker 1: If it alters your mind, it impairs your driving.
- 47:26Speaker 3: And that puts everyone on the road at risk.
- 47:29Speaker 12: Any highs is a DWI.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Drive sober.
- 47:32Speaker 5: No regrets.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Sponsored by TxDOT.
- 47:37Speaker 1: The Houston Astros found themselves trailing in multiple spots last
- 47:41Speaker 1: night against the New York Yankees, but found a way
- 47:43Speaker 1: to win the final score 9-7. Jainer Diaz and Dalton
- 47:46Speaker 1: Varshow each had an RBI swing in the second and
- 47:49Speaker 1: third innings for an early two-run lead, but then a
- 47:51Speaker 1: three-run homer for Cody Bellinger in the bottom third gave
- 47:54Speaker 1: the lead to New York. And then both sides would
- 47:56Speaker 1: exchange two-run homers to make the score 5-5 in the
- 47:59Speaker 1: fifth and sixth. Then in the top eighth, Jordan Alvarez
- 48:02Speaker 1: would put Houston in front for good.
- 48:04Speaker 9: And Alvarez hits this in the right center, and it's
- 48:06Speaker 9: down for a base hit, and that's going to bound
- 48:07Speaker 9: all the way to the wall.
- 48:09Speaker 6: Peña racing to third. He's going to score.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Without a throw.
- 48:12Speaker 11: Yordan loping over to third base with an RBI triple.
- 48:15Speaker 3: The Astros lead it 7-6.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Isaac Paredes and Yainar Diaz would each provide insurance runs
- 48:20Speaker 1: to seal the win. Game two against the Yankees is
- 48:23Speaker 1: set for 6-0-5 tonight. And with your Houston Astros report,
- 48:26Speaker 1: I'm Jett Nelson.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Hey, you know the 54th season of MSC Opus is
- 48:32Speaker 3: just around the corner, and it's opening with a special
- 48:37Speaker 3: Aidan Ross concert. There are still single tickets available for
- 48:44Speaker 3: the Aidan Ross concert on September the 18th. There's going
- 48:49Speaker 3: to be a lot of music this year, which is great.
- 48:52Speaker 3: The Neil Diamond musical, A Beautiful Noise, the Phil Collins story.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Under the singular sensations, the intimate gatherings with Churchill and Roosevelt.
- 49:03Speaker 3: I saw the Churchill one last year. It was terrific.
- 49:08Speaker 3: There's stuff for kids. Cat in the Hat, Fraggle Rock, Clue,
- 49:13Speaker 3: Mystic Pizza. It's going to be another great season. You
- 49:17Speaker 3: can get season tickets and you can get singles. tickets.

- 50:23Speaker 12: your darling From.
- 50:25Speaker 14: You Pretty pencils To write I love you Pretty.
- 50:39Speaker 16: Paper Since Dolly and Willie, Dolly Vistoria has just loved
- 50:53Speaker 16: that song, put it on a Christmas album, and then
- 50:57Speaker 16: asked Willie to.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Sing along with the song that he wrote. And You
- 51:07Speaker 3: immediately hear Trigger in the background even after that, during
- 51:10Speaker 3: that first verse. So that's pretty cool. Scott Clendon is here.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Let's start into this college football stuff. I don't know
- 51:24Speaker 3: what's going to happen. Well, I do know what's going
- 51:26Speaker 3: to happen. We've already got judges involved. I mean, yeah,
- 51:32Speaker 3: we've already got judges and lawyers involved. We had one
- 51:34Speaker 3: involved today here. it's going to be challenged at every turn.
- 51:40Speaker 3: The hearing for the temporary restraining order for Bryce and
- 51:43Speaker 3: Warren is a week from Friday on September 4th, so
- 51:47Speaker 3: we'll know a little bit more about that. I don't
- 51:50Speaker 3: understand all the legal issues.
- 51:52Speaker 19: Are you going to risk half your budget and half
- 51:55Speaker 19: a season of your coach?
- 51:57Speaker 3: Well, the question is, do these... Attorneys and the people
- 52:06Speaker 3: fighting for against all of this, and there's a few,
- 52:12Speaker 3: do they think it's a big enough slam dunk that
- 52:16Speaker 3: the answer is yes, I'm going forward because we don't
- 52:22Speaker 3: think that the SEC and the Big Ten and what
- 52:26Speaker 3: they have done and the ACC is about to follow,
- 52:30Speaker 3: the Big 12 will follow, is enforceable.
- 52:34Speaker 6: It was enforceable against Alabama last year.
- 52:37Speaker 3: It was. Well, I believe, and I don't remember, maybe
- 52:41Speaker 3: you do, I believe it's only because they appealed right
- 52:45Speaker 3: to a higher court and got it overturned.
- 52:48Speaker 19: But then Sankey came out and said, we were about
- 52:50Speaker 19: to step in and stop this anyway.
- 52:53Speaker 6: With basically... The same thing that they've said right now.
- 52:56Speaker 6: You are a professional basketball player.
- 52:58Speaker 3: I get it.
- 52:59Speaker 6: And I said at the time, all Greg Sankey has
- 53:02Speaker 6: to do is come out and say in the SEC,
- 53:05Speaker 6: you're not going to the NCAA tournament because you're not
- 53:08Speaker 6: going to be, we're not going to certify you in
- 53:11Speaker 6: our league.
- 53:12Speaker 3: I get that. I understand all of that. But you're
- 53:17Speaker 3: going to have attorneys going, oh, yeah, we're going to
- 53:20Speaker 3: the NCAA tournament. My player is going, we're taking this
- 53:25Speaker 3: to court. And you don't know what the courts are
- 53:28Speaker 3: going to do with stuff like this. I'm not a
- 53:31Speaker 3: legal enough expert to understand all of it, but I
- 53:35Speaker 3: guarantee this will be challenged as well, right? And I
- 53:40Speaker 3: would love, and I'm not going to be here, but
- 53:42Speaker 3: I would love to be in that court hearing questions
- 53:46Speaker 3: Both sides of the arguments, because we could do that
- 53:49Speaker 3: locally in here. Okay, what are they saying?
- 53:52Speaker 6: This is not saying that he has to play at
- 53:54Speaker 6: Texas A & M according to what I heard.
- 53:56Speaker 3: You said earlier.
- 53:57Speaker 6: That's true.
- 53:58Speaker 3: He can play anywhere.
- 54:00Speaker 6: Any conference that allows him to go play.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Any conference.
- 54:03Speaker 6: That he can go play.
- 54:05Speaker 3: That's correct.
- 54:06Speaker 6: The SEC is not saying that you can't go play.
- 54:09Speaker 6: The Big Ten is not saying that you can't go play.
- 54:12Speaker 6: It's just not here. You're just not playing here.
- 54:14Speaker 3: Yeah. All I'm saying is that in itself is going
- 54:19Speaker 3: to be challenged. There's no doubt in my mind.
- 54:21Speaker 6: As a parent of a college athlete, there is a
- 54:26Speaker 6: time when you can be in the portal and a
- 54:28Speaker 6: time when you cannot.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 54:32Speaker 19: If Bryant University had some player from the SEC... that
- 54:38Speaker 19: decided to come back from being a pro softball player
- 54:43Speaker 19: and all of a sudden decided they wanted to go
- 54:45Speaker 19: to Bryant University, why am I not suing to protect
- 54:50Speaker 19: my daughter?
- 54:52Speaker 6: That you've got to enforce the rules. I'm sure that's
- 54:54Speaker 6: going to happen too. Because she can't go anywhere. She
- 54:58Speaker 6: can't enter the portal. Her time has already been shut down.
- 55:02Speaker 6: So all these players, and maybe they don't care, which
- 55:06Speaker 6: is garbage, but you don't think the tight end room
- 55:10Speaker 6: at LSU is sitting there going– I've been here this
- 55:14Speaker 6: whole time trying to make this team better, and you're
- 55:17Speaker 6: going to go get some guy who's already been cut
- 55:20Speaker 6: out of the NFL to come in here? And I
- 55:22Speaker 6: can't leave. I can't go anywhere. I have no ability
- 55:27Speaker 6: to have recourse.
- 55:29Speaker 3: That will be challenged at court as well.
- 55:33Speaker 5: Okay?
- 55:33Speaker 21: Okay.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Everything is going to be challenged. Everything.
- 55:35Speaker 6: No, it doesn't need to be challenged.
- 55:38Speaker 3: I'm not saying it needs to be challenged. I'm saying
- 55:40Speaker 3: it's going to be challenged.
- 55:42Speaker 19: I'm saying that the SEC, if the big conferences, I
- 55:45Speaker 19: think the Big 12 is not even going to say anything, Chip.
- 55:48Speaker 19: I think the Big 12 is going to say bring
- 55:50Speaker 19: them on. Because, like, going to the Florida State quarterback,
- 55:55Speaker 19: going to Texas Tech.
- 55:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:57Speaker 6: OK, I think there will be a conference that says,
- 56:01Speaker 6: come on.
- 56:01Speaker 3: And you may be right.
- 56:03Speaker 6: Come on.
- 56:03Speaker 3: You may be right.
- 56:04Speaker 6: We don't care that you've been a pro.
- 56:06Speaker 3: The other thing is, I will say, we've got to
- 56:08Speaker 3: take a break. I will say this. We're not talking
- 56:10Speaker 3: about hundreds of players here.
- 56:12Speaker 19: Chip, we're also not talking about players that want to
- 56:15Speaker 19: go play in a league where I'm.
- 56:16Speaker 6: Not going to get a bunch of NIL money.
- 56:18Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 56:20Speaker 17: Right.
- 56:22Speaker 19: So if they say, hey, I need to be in
- 56:24Speaker 19: the SEC or the Big Ten, it's not because they
- 56:26Speaker 19: want to be at LSU or they want to be
- 56:28Speaker 19: at Ohio State. They want to have the money from
- 56:30Speaker 19: being at LSU or Ohio State. They don't care anything
- 56:34Speaker 19: about anything other than their NIL payment.
- 56:36Speaker 3: I mean, that part is true. No doubt about that.
