Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Chris Sun, and I'm a feature film producer,
- 0:04Speaker 1: writer and director. And yeah, obviously you know I'm known
- 0:08Speaker 1: for making them the movies, the horror movies, the blood
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Guts. But we've also moved in and set up
- 0:14Speaker 1: your Son Entertainment, which will do music videos and social
- 0:18Speaker 1: media videos but mainly revolve around the music videos. Is
- 0:21Speaker 1: something that I'm excited to do.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Lord Chris, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:26Speaker 1: A pleasure to be here or there or wherever the
- 0:28Speaker 1: fuck we are on the internet.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Pleasure to be here brother.
- 0:33Speaker 2: As you mentioned, bro, you've started your new company's Son Entertainment,
- 0:37Speaker 2: which is essentially a new music video production company. So
- 0:42Speaker 2: explain to us, Explain to us to your your mission goal.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I guess what's.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Your name for sure.
- 0:49Speaker 1: So a few years ago, before COVID hit, we set
- 0:53Speaker 1: up Son Entertainment.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I had this like vision back then that you know.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Like movies are great, man, I make them move and
- 1:00Speaker 1: stuff like that. It's good fun. But it's a it's
- 1:03Speaker 1: a hard slog and it's hard to earn a consistent income,
- 1:06Speaker 1: especially being a filmmaker in Australia.
- 1:08Speaker 3: You know, it's not there, you know, it's a hard thing.
- 1:11Speaker 3: To get a movie made.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I mean, anyone can go ahead and make a you know,
- 1:14Speaker 1: a low no budget movie. But you know, if you
- 1:18Speaker 1: got some friends and a phone, you can make a
- 1:19Speaker 1: movie these days. But when you're trying to make them,
- 1:22Speaker 1: you know, to sell like for Universal Pictures and stuff
- 1:24Speaker 1: like that, it's a bit of a slog.
- 1:27Speaker 3: So we set up.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Some entertainment and we were going to lock out social
- 1:32Speaker 1: media videos and then you move into doing music videos.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And then I got offered to do The Possessed during
- 1:38Speaker 1: COVID and I thought, well, you know, movies is something
- 1:40Speaker 1: that I know, I'll go and make the movie. So
- 1:43Speaker 1: of course you went and you know, shot The Possessed,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and you know, it was fantastic, But you know, for ages,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I was sort of like, you know, I really.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Want to shoot music videos.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Even though I knew people like bands and stuff like that,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I didn't really know how to sort.
- 1:55Speaker 3: To get into it.
- 1:56Speaker 1: And you get what gear I needed because I'm used
- 1:58Speaker 1: to feature film seventy eighty crew and we got to
- 2:00Speaker 1: make a movie. So it wasn't until late late last
- 2:05Speaker 1: year man that my old members seen like we've been
- 2:09Speaker 1: through a lot, you know with the you know, in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the film industry, and I had a few health issues myself,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and then in September, my dad got told he had
- 2:18Speaker 1: cancer and they said he had six to eight months
- 2:20Speaker 1: to live. And I remember saying, you know, talking to
- 2:23Speaker 1: him about it, and he's like, you know, just you
- 2:25Speaker 1: just got to do it, lad, you know, if you
- 2:26Speaker 1: want to make music videos and go and make music videos,
- 2:29Speaker 1: like what's stopping you?
- 2:30Speaker 3: You can do it. And then of.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Course in Halloween, you know, the day that everyone thinks
- 2:34Speaker 1: I celebrating the horror guy, you know, my old man
- 2:37Speaker 1: passed away. Like it was so quick, it just fucking
- 2:40Speaker 1: the doctor said six months and dirt, he was gone
- 2:43Speaker 1: in weeks, Like from the moment he found out to
- 2:45Speaker 1: the moment he got it.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Was gone in fucking weeks. And you know, so I
- 2:48Speaker 3: went through that.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You know, I put the movie on hold because I'm
- 2:50Speaker 1: developing the new movie Dark Moon also, so we're about
- 2:54Speaker 1: to go into proved production for that finally, so I
- 2:56Speaker 1: put everything on hold, man, because obviously I went through
- 2:58Speaker 1: a lot with the old Man. But then in January,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I was like fuck it, you know, like I got
- 3:05Speaker 1: to do it, Like this is something I really want
- 3:07Speaker 1: to do. So I announced I was going to do
- 3:08Speaker 1: music videos, and before you know, I was booked out, Like
- 3:11Speaker 1: people were reaching out to me going, hey can you
- 3:13Speaker 1: shoot out, come shoot a music video for us? I mean,
- 3:15Speaker 1: things just sort of started happening, and people wanted me
- 3:18Speaker 1: to shoot social media videos, which I haven't done yet.
- 3:20Speaker 1: We sort of put that on hold, and of course
- 3:23Speaker 1: the more more people started bringing me about movies. If
- 3:25Speaker 1: I can at me right everyone everyone script, Chris, You've
- 3:30Speaker 1: got a script.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Everyone's got a movie they want to get made, right, mate.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But every phone call I have and starts O ba hey,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I've got this movie idea. But look, you know, the
- 3:47Speaker 1: new number of My manager warned me, said, when you
- 3:49Speaker 1: promote you're going to music videos, be warned, people will
- 3:51Speaker 1: ring you for movies. Nah they won't, They'll ring you
- 3:54Speaker 1: for music videos. No, No, he was right, They ring
- 3:56Speaker 1: me for movies. But I did get some music videos
- 3:59Speaker 1: and we got a start on it, you know, which
- 4:02Speaker 1: was great. And I got to shoot some for you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: for Baden, you know, Greg and Caries. I've got to
- 4:06Speaker 1: get out there and do some videos. So now, dude,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's something that I'm really passionate about. Like obviously we're
- 4:12Speaker 1: focusing on the movies right now as well. But my
- 4:15Speaker 1: priority has become like doing these music videos. It's something
- 4:17Speaker 1: that I really want to do. You know, one thing
- 4:20Speaker 1: I love is telling a story. And songs are the same.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They just a story. So with my vision and the
- 4:25Speaker 1: band's vision and the writer's vision whatever, you know, we
- 4:28Speaker 1: can create some fucking cool shit, man. And that's what
- 4:31Speaker 1: I want to do. And people think that I want
- 4:33Speaker 1: to do only horror. I don't just want to do horror.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I'll do any genre like, they can be country music, whatever.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Come back to.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Austraining and get fucking sick COVID fucker is. But like,
- 4:49Speaker 1: we want to do any genre. I want to really
- 4:51Speaker 1: get good at this and and I want to cater
- 4:53Speaker 1: for the indie guys through the big budgets to like,
- 4:56Speaker 1: even though these guys have got a small budget. You know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I was talking to actually someone you put me onto
- 5:01Speaker 1: the other day, Tim.
- 5:03Speaker 3: You know, a band manager there and a.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Label, and you know, you've got these guys that want
- 5:07Speaker 1: to have these these music videos. We don't know how
- 5:09Speaker 1: to get them done or don't like, you know, can
- 5:12Speaker 1: they afford to do it right? Like this is where
- 5:15Speaker 1: I want to come in with you. I've got fifteen
- 5:17Speaker 1: years experience in making feature films. I've done Universal Picture, screen, Factory, shutter,
- 5:21Speaker 1: you know, I've done it all, man Like, I've won
- 5:23Speaker 1: so many awards making movies that I've got so much
- 5:25Speaker 1: experience there. I can take these indie guys and say, well, hey,
- 5:28Speaker 1: hang on a minute. You know, the one thing I
- 5:30Speaker 1: teach people when they're writing a script is write everything right.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It doesn't matter that I think it's got you one
- 5:35Speaker 1: hundred million dollars, but when it when we get down
- 5:38Speaker 1: or we can start cutting things out and working things
- 5:40Speaker 1: around and still give you that production value. And we
- 5:43Speaker 1: want to say to the indie guys out there that
- 5:45Speaker 1: are watching this, and they can be anywhere in the world. Bro,
- 5:47Speaker 1: We'll go fucking anywhay depending on your budget, guys, but
- 5:49Speaker 1: we can go anywhere to shoot these things and make
- 5:52Speaker 1: it happen.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And we can we can take your.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Three four five thousand dollars, buddy, whatever, like your big shoot.
- 5:58Speaker 1: You want to go and shoot some stuff in the
- 6:01Speaker 1: woods or what. I don't know what the fuck it is, right,
- 6:03Speaker 1: but we can take your budget and make it look
- 6:05Speaker 1: like you had twenty grand. Right, It's all about production value.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It's about getting getting the shots and the lighting. And
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know, I've put together a team. We've got Emmy
- 6:14Speaker 1: Award winning editor. These are for the bigger budget projects,
- 6:17Speaker 1: like the smaller budgets. I added them personally, guys, so
- 6:20Speaker 1: I direct it for you, I edit it for you.
- 6:22Speaker 1: My son's the DP. But we've got everything from lighting
- 6:25Speaker 1: crew to you know, makeup departments everything. So the bigger
- 6:28Speaker 1: the budget, we can do anything. It doesn't matter. We
- 6:31Speaker 1: want practical effects. You want a fucking monster, guys, we
- 6:33Speaker 1: can do Fuck. You want severed heads, We got fucking
- 6:37Speaker 1: severed heads. They're fucking everywhere, right, so we can do it.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We just want to get the bands scaling. Fuck it,
- 6:42Speaker 1: let's let's make it happen. And something I mentioned to
- 6:45Speaker 1: some of the labels is even if it's only like
- 6:47Speaker 1: a stage shoot, dude, like someone just wants to be
- 6:49Speaker 1: on stage, not like a live one, Like they want
- 6:50Speaker 1: to be on stage and you know, sort of show
- 6:52Speaker 1: what they're like, what they're like on stage. We did
- 6:55Speaker 1: that for Kill Pillar. I don't know if you've got
- 6:56Speaker 1: that one, maybe we might be able to share it
- 6:58Speaker 1: in this story, which is a stage video, and we
- 7:02Speaker 1: can do that for like fifteen hundred bucks, goes about
- 7:04Speaker 1: six hours to film, right, But that's that's.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Just did you look at the video?
- 7:08Speaker 1: You guys look at the video or you know, the
- 7:10Speaker 1: readers out there, have a look the bands. We can
- 7:12Speaker 1: do that for you. And the cool thing is up
- 7:13Speaker 1: to a thousand bucks too, that I can do. I
- 7:16Speaker 1: can do that fucking after the payro bands, we can
- 7:20Speaker 1: have to play up to a thousand bucks of your
- 7:22Speaker 1: music video.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I just stick it on your fucking credit card whatever.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I guess a bit mate, like and in the modern
- 7:31Speaker 2: age of technology, like it's pretty simple for bands to
- 7:34Speaker 2: record their own music videos. I just do lyric videos.
- 7:37Speaker 2: So the art of making professional music videos has decreased
- 7:41Speaker 2: in many aspects. So I guess bands out there that
- 7:45Speaker 2: can can do it themselves and think it's easier, Like
- 7:48Speaker 2: why should they go with a bigger company like yours.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Dude, You're so right.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I've got the new iPhone right, and it's fucking amazing,
- 7:56Speaker 1: Like I can shoot some really cool stuff on my iPhone,
- 7:59Speaker 1: and bands out there were limited budget that want to
- 8:02Speaker 1: do that, you.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Know, I encourage them to do that.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Do your music videos, whether you don't need to pay
- 8:07Speaker 1: you know, big money here, I'm talking myself out of work,
- 8:09Speaker 1: but in fact I'm not right because those guys that
- 8:12Speaker 1: are going to get shot in the fund are going
- 8:13Speaker 1: to do it anyway, all right. They've got zero budget.
- 8:15Speaker 1: They want to go out there. They want to make
- 8:16Speaker 1: a cool video, and some of them are fucking insane.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Bro.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And there's some of those guys are watch them right now,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and I'd love to see your videos because some of
- 8:23Speaker 1: them are fucking insane.
- 8:25Speaker 3: But then you get the guys.
- 8:25Speaker 1: They want the lighting truck, they want, you know, the makeup,
- 8:28Speaker 1: they want the professional makeup teams, they want the different
- 8:30Speaker 1: levels every like. Some guys will write a song and
- 8:34Speaker 1: that's you can get the band, the lead singer in
- 8:37Speaker 1: a fucking toilet and look fucking insane, grungy, cool, fucking
- 8:42Speaker 1: editor color greater making it looks great and you can
- 8:45Speaker 1: do it on your phone, right. But then you get
- 8:48Speaker 1: those guys and say, no, no, no, no, no no, we
- 8:51Speaker 1: want to have we want to be in the toilet.
- 8:52Speaker 3: We want to have that.
- 8:53Speaker 1: We want to have a fucking monster come inside. That
- 8:55Speaker 1: monster is going to cost money, right, or we want
- 8:58Speaker 1: to have you know, we need some digital effect, we
- 9:00Speaker 1: need this we need this. All of a sudden, the
- 9:01Speaker 1: budgets start going up. The bands know, right, so and
- 9:05Speaker 1: if they're serious bands, like if they're sitting there again,
- 9:07Speaker 1: go ahead, shit on the fighting your fuck right. You
- 9:09Speaker 1: get a mate with a little camera film, it doesn't matter.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But a serious band that's looking at someone like myself
- 9:15Speaker 1: for another company to do a music video.
- 9:17Speaker 3: These are guys now that know.
- 9:19Speaker 1: The band members are all sat down and said, right,
- 9:21Speaker 1: if we put in two grand each or whatever it
- 9:23Speaker 1: is that a thousand dollars, we can get something made
- 9:26Speaker 1: and they don't need to worry. There's nothing worse than
- 9:29Speaker 1: going on set and having to worry about everything. If
- 9:33Speaker 1: they turn around and they can turn out and be
- 9:34Speaker 1: the band, right, they can be the fucking artist they
- 9:37Speaker 1: want to be. They can fucking let loose and be
- 9:39Speaker 1: crazy and have a fucking quality director, quality camera team,
- 9:43Speaker 1: everybody filming it and getting the shots. They're going to
- 9:46Speaker 1: get a better performance later on. Yeah, all right again,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I've already said it and I'll say it again. Guys,
- 9:52Speaker 1: anybody with a fucking camera phone now can make a video.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Fuck you can do the cap cut on TikTok. Please
- 9:57Speaker 1: don't leave your cap cut logo on your fucking music video.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But anybody can do it. But there comes a time
- 10:03Speaker 1: when a band starts to grow, all right, and that's
- 10:06Speaker 1: when they go, you know what, hey, we can afford
- 10:07Speaker 1: three or four grand to do this, or they start
- 10:10Speaker 1: to get bigger and bigger. I want to build sets.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Like look at kill Pill. They built two big sets
- 10:14Speaker 1: for theirs. So it depends on how much money they
- 10:16Speaker 1: want to throw it to what they can get. It's
- 10:19Speaker 1: no different to anything else.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you raise a really good point there, Broy. Like
- 10:22Speaker 2: for a band, just say a band coming out with
- 10:25Speaker 2: their debut, their first ever song, or they're releasing the
- 10:28Speaker 2: first song off a new album or a new EP.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Like these days, first impressions mattered more than ever, so
- 10:34Speaker 2: during a stuff is fine. But if you want to
- 10:37Speaker 2: really grab someone's attention and announce it and say this
- 10:40Speaker 2: is what we've got and this is how good it is.
- 10:43Speaker 2: If the music's great and the rest of it isn't,
- 10:45Speaker 2: it sort of pass the significance of it, so you
- 10:47Speaker 2: may as well.
- 10:49Speaker 1: When I started doing like looking at these music videos
- 10:52Speaker 1: I looked for I researched indie bands and whatever. And
- 10:55Speaker 1: now the guys again watching this listen to this. When
- 10:59Speaker 1: you kind of movie trailer, you've got one chance to
- 11:01Speaker 1: make people go, well, I want.
- 11:02Speaker 3: To watch that movie.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:04Speaker 1: The trailer can be a thirty second whatever, fifteen second tiases,
- 11:07Speaker 1: whatever they are. I watched so many music videos, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: I'm going to be honest. Some of these bands had
- 11:15Speaker 1: such a good song, but the video was shit.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Man.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It just turned it off. It looked b grade. It
- 11:21Speaker 1: looked like they didn't put any effort into it. Or
- 11:22Speaker 1: they tried, but they just didn't put any effort into it.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And if you're going to do that, you know, go
- 11:27Speaker 1: Those yard didn't have the guys that want to do
- 11:28Speaker 1: to themselves. Again, I encourage you guys out there. You
- 11:31Speaker 1: don't need to pay big bucks to do this, but
- 11:33Speaker 1: just you can. But if you are going to do
- 11:36Speaker 1: it yourself, learn how to edit, learn how to color grade,
- 11:39Speaker 1: learn how to keep things fucking in or out of
- 11:40Speaker 1: focus where you want it to be. If it's going
- 11:42Speaker 1: to be grungy, be careful of digital effects.
- 11:45Speaker 3: You know, like this.
- 11:46Speaker 1: If you want, I say to people, if you want
- 11:48Speaker 1: to really grunt, you go get an old fucking camera.
- 11:50Speaker 3: I'm filling an old camera. You know, digital effects can fuck.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Things up these days rather than make it look, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: like it's like a VHS. Fact, if you want to
- 12:01Speaker 1: make it look like a VHS recorded digitally, stick it
- 12:04Speaker 1: in the fucking recorder and record it onto a VHS
- 12:06Speaker 1: and then bounce it back out again. Now it looks
- 12:09Speaker 1: like a VHS. Like there's people these days, they are,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but no, I can for forty nine to ninety five,
- 12:15Speaker 1: we can get a VHS effect. Dude, it looks like shit, right.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So what I'm saying to people is that you still
- 12:20Speaker 1: can do it for zero budget. But sometimes it's better
- 12:24Speaker 1: just to say, Chris, hey, we want to shoot this
- 12:25Speaker 1: in the video ro we've got a few grammar. You
- 12:27Speaker 1: don't have a lot of money, dude's call me. You
- 12:29Speaker 1: don't have to have a lot of money.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Call me.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Let's talk about it all right, and then we can
- 12:33Speaker 1: make it happen. I would rather give And like you said,
- 12:35Speaker 1: it's the first impression you go put a song out
- 12:37Speaker 1: there that it's a fucking crack of song. But then
- 12:40Speaker 1: it's like, you know, there's B grade fucking looking no no, no, no,
- 12:43Speaker 1: no no no, And I'm the master b grade. I'm
- 12:44Speaker 1: a big grade horror filmmaker, but it's still got to
- 12:47Speaker 1: look like it costs you a fuck a couple of
- 12:48Speaker 1: million bucks to make it look good.
- 12:51Speaker 3: So that's where we come in from, and we can
- 12:52Speaker 3: help them out.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Again, encourage anybody that wants to do it on their own,
- 12:56Speaker 1: but I also encourage them to give me a call
- 12:59Speaker 1: and let's talk about it, because if we can do
- 13:01Speaker 1: it for them and help them out. Obviously, every music
- 13:05Speaker 1: video comes with a different cost. You know they're going
- 13:07Speaker 1: to want certain things, and you know they want to
- 13:09Speaker 1: you know, put cgo that costs more money. You want
- 13:12Speaker 1: to have animated graphics, that costs money. Everything costs money.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So if you've got you know, you just want to
- 13:17Speaker 1: show something simple, Sure we can do something simple, or
- 13:20Speaker 1: you can do it yourself, but if you want to,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, think, well, fuck, we've got this really cool
- 13:23Speaker 1: idea for a Star Trek theme fucking music video. Or guys,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you're going to have to sell your PlayStation to make
- 13:28Speaker 1: it happen. All right, Sometimes you've got to if you
- 13:32Speaker 1: really want to fucking make your band go bang through
- 13:34Speaker 1: the roof. When I did Bore and Bore fell Over,
- 13:37Speaker 1: I had a week left to shoot. Everybody's like that
- 13:39Speaker 1: movie's never going to get made. I worked so fucking
- 13:42Speaker 1: hard bro that that movie ended up on taxi cabs
- 13:45Speaker 1: in New York.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I had zero own money. I invested everything, and I
- 13:48Speaker 3: lost my home.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I believed in it that much. I did everything in
- 13:52Speaker 1: my power to get that movie finished anounce it. Whether
- 13:55Speaker 1: people are raising the backboard, it doesn't fucking matter, right.
- 13:58Speaker 1: It's the thing is that I pulled it off when
- 14:00Speaker 1: to Universal Pieces and went to Shutter. It went fucking
- 14:03Speaker 1: huge around the world because I just gave it everything
- 14:06Speaker 1: I got. And if you're not willing to tell your
- 14:08Speaker 1: own shit to make your thing happen, they didn't believe
- 14:12Speaker 1: in it. If you got a seven hundred dollars short
- 14:14Speaker 1: but you've got fucking nine hundred dollars worth of games,
- 14:18Speaker 1: fuck make it happen.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Boys. That's that's how I look at it, right.
- 14:21Speaker 1: So I sold everything to finish that movie, and I'm
- 14:23Speaker 1: glad I did because it went to festivals and did everything.
- 14:26Speaker 1: We won't talk about the sales team ripping me off,
- 14:28Speaker 1: but the movie went world why, which was so worth it.
- 14:31Speaker 2: In the end, I guess it's the old saying, Mabe,
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'm going to get one chance for the first impression.
- 14:36Speaker 3: You know what you do?
- 14:40Speaker 1: You do, brother, you do, and you know what, Like,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm not just talking about Assi's but I will talk
- 14:44Speaker 1: about Aussies for a second.
- 14:46Speaker 3: And I'm learning about the music industry. Guys.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I'm not an expert in your industry. I love making movies.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I love shooting film. That's what I'm good at. But
- 14:54Speaker 1: the one thing I'm learning about the Australian music industry is,
- 14:56Speaker 1: like the Australian film industry, we are so fuck talented, bro.
- 15:01Speaker 1: There is so much talent in this country that's just
- 15:06Speaker 1: loosing to get out there and fucking explode. So you've
- 15:10Speaker 1: got these bands, whether they're young teenage bands, which some
- 15:12Speaker 1: of these guys are fucking insane through to you know,
- 15:15Speaker 1: grown ups, you know, adult bands, if they haven't done
- 15:18Speaker 1: a music video before, I've done them before. I never
- 15:20Speaker 1: really got the you know, it's time to now bring
- 15:23Speaker 1: up some pros and say, guys, we don't have a
- 15:25Speaker 1: big budget, but we want to make it happen, and
- 15:28Speaker 1: then let's look at it. Let's make it happen like
- 15:30Speaker 1: that's what I want to do. And if we can
- 15:32Speaker 1: help in any way, you know, I help for every
- 15:35Speaker 1: Tuesday night. Now, I work with kids and you know
- 15:38Speaker 1: the future filmmakers you know around here on the coast,
- 15:41Speaker 1: So you know, it's the same with these music videos. Man,
- 15:44Speaker 1: So guys ring me up. Fucking Chris has got my number.
- 15:47Speaker 1: The number will be somewhere. Let's just talk about it
- 15:49Speaker 1: and see what we can do. And again, it doesn't
- 15:51Speaker 1: matter whether you're a new band, you're a teenage band.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Fucking some of those songs are insane that these guys
- 15:57Speaker 1: are doing right through men to a seasoned band that's
- 16:01Speaker 1: done fifty fucking music videos, I still reckon we can
- 16:04Speaker 1: do a cracker.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yes fantasy. Reading through your press release, mate, there is
- 16:08Speaker 2: one quote that really stood out to me that I
- 16:09Speaker 2: want to get you to elaborate on a bit more.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Like you said that you want to bring big screen
- 16:14Speaker 2: energy to the world of music, Like, firstly, what do
- 16:18Speaker 2: you mean by that? And secondly, how are you going
- 16:20Speaker 2: to make that happen?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Okay, Well, for me, that would be more on my
- 16:23Speaker 1: horror stuff. So when these guys want to do, like,
- 16:26Speaker 1: you know, a dark, scary, uh you know, kind of
- 16:29Speaker 1: fucking film clip you want again, you go from somebody
- 16:34Speaker 1: shooting an indie one on their phone or this little
- 16:36Speaker 1: DSLR you know, trying to film it, you know, do whatever, you.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Know, we want to bring that whole crew.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So if they've got a budget, we're going to bring
- 16:44Speaker 1: in the whole team, from Emmy Award winning editors to
- 16:47Speaker 1: CGI experts to everything together they want. But you're talking
- 16:50Speaker 1: a bigger budget there, right, Well you're not talking two grand,
- 16:53Speaker 1: three grand, right, Like we all want a million dollar
- 16:55Speaker 1: a yard for one hundred thousand bucks, right, so we
- 16:58Speaker 1: can paint the canfucker and make a look. But I
- 17:00Speaker 1: still got a fucking Suzuki one ten engine in it, right,
- 17:03Speaker 1: So at the end of the day, yes, we can
- 17:06Speaker 1: bring that. If we walk onto a setain someone says Chris, like,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I want to fucking I want to wear wolf.
- 17:14Speaker 3: That's big.
- 17:15Speaker 1: That's that's like fucking thriller ship, right, Like that's bits
- 17:17Speaker 1: fucking John Landers stuff. Like Then I say, okay, we
- 17:20Speaker 1: can get your fucking wealth, but it's the way it's
- 17:22Speaker 1: going to cost you this. If you could do that,
- 17:25Speaker 1: let's bring that big screen to your fucking music video.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Let's let's make this fucking big time. We want a
- 17:29Speaker 1: fucking vampire or whatever you want. Severed heads I don't
- 17:32Speaker 1: fucking know, but we can also do it. Like I
- 17:36Speaker 1: can't remember, there was a an Indonesian pop band. It
- 17:40Speaker 1: was females singing, uh, female singers. I watched that video, bro,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and it was so fucking colorful, all these balls in
- 17:47Speaker 1: the pool and beautiful women and it was fucking stunning.
- 17:50Speaker 1: The way they shot that video was big screen that
- 17:53Speaker 1: was that was like feature film shit. There was shot
- 17:57Speaker 1: on cinematic lenses, which is what we shoot onmadic lenses
- 18:00Speaker 1: of films. It was beautiful, Bro, it was really stunning.
- 18:04Speaker 1: So it doesn't always have to be horror. It just
- 18:07Speaker 1: comes down the lighting. I mean, you gotta have lights,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you gotta have everything right and in the movie, Like
- 18:12Speaker 1: in the music industry, man, I'm sure, and god, there's
- 18:15Speaker 1: probably I think the bands right now they're gonna slap me,
- 18:17Speaker 1: but I'm.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Guessing the microphone is really fucking important. Right. You've gotta
- 18:20Speaker 3: have a good mic.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Okay, You've got to have good equipment to sound good. Right,
- 18:25Speaker 1: It's no different to fucking filming.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Bro.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, again, phones these days are fucking superb, but we
- 18:31Speaker 1: got fucking, you know, cinematic lenses that we've ship movies on.
- 18:35Speaker 3: You know that it's all about the glass.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You can even they put lenses on phones now, Bro,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you can get these like cinematic lenses for fun. So
- 18:43Speaker 1: it does come down to good equipment and stuff to
- 18:45Speaker 1: bring that you know, that cinema vibe to your video.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Yeah, there's actually one main thing I just took out
- 18:50Speaker 2: of what you said then too, Bro, which I think
- 18:52Speaker 2: it's important to bring up, Like you've been in the
- 18:55Speaker 2: industry for a while, so like this is your passion,
- 18:57Speaker 2: this is your life, Like you're not my head. I
- 19:01Speaker 2: say this. Ben's gonna come to you with the were
- 19:03Speaker 2: wolf example, you just use. They'll say the one were wolf.
- 19:06Speaker 2: You're going to say, right, how much do you have
- 19:07Speaker 2: to spend? Like you're not the sort of person going
- 19:10Speaker 2: to keep adding and adding and adding, And then the
- 19:12Speaker 2: end of the video is shoot, like those spend of
- 19:14Speaker 2: five hundred bucks and they get a bill for the
- 19:16Speaker 2: five thousand.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Along the way.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Absolutely, Bro, So how it works is quite simple. It's well,
- 19:25Speaker 1: you look at bard a delicate murder kill pill, correct,
- 19:31Speaker 1: good cris They just had a figure and okay, did
- 19:35Speaker 1: I buy it off more than I could chew? And
- 19:36Speaker 1: and absolutely, but I didn't charge them anymore. Right, It's like,
- 19:40Speaker 1: this is the deal. So if the band comes to me,
- 19:42Speaker 1: did they get a three thousand dollars budget, the chances
- 19:44Speaker 1: are getting a Look, we probably have to go to
- 19:46Speaker 1: silly Solly's and build a were wolf because you've got
- 19:50Speaker 1: to pay for everything else. Guy's camera life, you gotta
- 19:52Speaker 1: pay everything else.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So yeah, it's like, have you.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Ever seen those pid those those videos on the internet, bro,
- 19:58Speaker 1: where there's one half is at fifty dollars Spider Man
- 20:01Speaker 1: the other half of five thousand dollars Spider.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Man and they're drawing it. It's the same thing. It's
- 20:06Speaker 3: the same thing.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Right, So guys don't come and go, hey, Chris that
- 20:10Speaker 1: we want fucking the American wealth in London, but we
- 20:13Speaker 1: got three grand. No, no, no, that's going to cost you
- 20:15Speaker 1: a lot of money just to build the werewolf. Okay,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I work in special effects, like these things cost a
- 20:20Speaker 1: lot of money. But we can build you a werewolf.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Looks fucking Nali for cheapest shit too. All right, So
- 20:27Speaker 1: we got to sit down and look at the budget.
- 20:29Speaker 1: We've always got to be respectful of the camera guy,
- 20:31Speaker 1: the lighting guy, the equipment, all that sort of stuff.
- 20:33Speaker 1: So guys don't think three thousand dollars is going to
- 20:35Speaker 1: get your werewolf, and then you're not paying for anything else.
- 20:37Speaker 1: We've got a barter for everything, a budget for everything,
- 20:39Speaker 1: and so we can't at my time, I'm going to
- 20:41Speaker 1: come and direct this fucking thing.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:43Speaker 1: So, but in saying that, bro, you got the guys
- 20:47Speaker 1: that want the three thousand dollars video, like, okay, when
- 20:49Speaker 1: idea dam Greg and carieses' I'll tell the world the truth.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I only charge them four thousand bucks to do that video.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I built them a cemetery, we did all the other sets,
- 21:01Speaker 1: like everything we did for them.
- 21:02Speaker 3: It was very fucking cheap. Would I do that again? No? Right?
- 21:06Speaker 3: But I never charged them more. Yeah, never charged them more.
- 21:09Speaker 1: The deal was the deal, and because it was my
- 21:11Speaker 1: first one, I was so excited, like, yeah, let's fucking
- 21:13Speaker 1: do it now. Here's the problem, though, guys, is if
- 21:16Speaker 1: you say to me it's going to take one day,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and I say to you you need too and you
- 21:21Speaker 1: say I can't. I can't do them one and then
- 21:23Speaker 1: it takes too Yes, you're going to pay more if
- 21:25Speaker 1: I told you it needs two days, but you you.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Try to force it into one day.
- 21:29Speaker 1: You try to make crew work twenty hours and everybody
- 21:32Speaker 1: else were twenty hours for nothing.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Then it's going to cost you more money.
- 21:36Speaker 1: So trust out guidance when we say, hey, listen, that's
- 21:40Speaker 1: going to take a couple of days to shoot right.
- 21:42Speaker 1: It's better to spread it out than try and cram
- 21:45Speaker 1: everything in. We're not fucking shooting the we other world
- 21:47Speaker 1: fucking film clip. We can we can we you know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: we can spend a couple of days and get it
- 21:51Speaker 1: right and still coming out under budget or around budget.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, very cool. Now, how the beds reach out
- 21:57Speaker 2: to you to find out more and what sorts of
- 22:00Speaker 2: things do they need to have in place before they
- 22:02Speaker 2: come to you about making a music video?
- 22:05Speaker 3: They need to have their equipment. Look, they can reach out.
- 22:11Speaker 1: We've got the website, you know, in the actually were
- 22:14Speaker 1: advertising on your website all the time. I think we
- 22:17Speaker 1: our banners on the front page there, guys. You can
- 22:19Speaker 1: see how banner there for Son Entertainment in the article
- 22:22Speaker 1: on the magazine cover or Facebook.
- 22:24Speaker 3: They can just search search up critis sun and follow me.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I was going to set up a Son Entertainment like Insta,
- 22:30Speaker 1: but I thought, you know what, I'll just keep it
- 22:31Speaker 1: under my film stuff and people can just do you know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: follow me there and maybe down the track.
- 22:36Speaker 3: So Chris Son, but.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Otherwise Brad Bromfield, he's been helping with all my movies
- 22:43Speaker 1: and stuff. That Brad's coming on to be like he's
- 22:45Speaker 1: got in a band himself and he's coming on to
- 22:48Speaker 1: be like the booking guy, my booking guy, yeah, brooking guy,
- 22:53Speaker 1: security everything else. He's done so many different roles in
- 22:56Speaker 1: my movies. It's funny, but little coming out as long
- 23:00Speaker 1: to get Brady because he's got the dreadlocks and all
- 23:02Speaker 1: the hor attacks. We'd like to bring him in. But
- 23:04Speaker 1: Brad's a fucking decent human being, guys, and you can
- 23:08Speaker 1: talk to Brad, you know, and he can sort of
- 23:10Speaker 1: go through it with it because because he's the views
- 23:12Speaker 1: of himself in the band himself, he gets a rob
- 23:15Speaker 1: standard does on my graphic design work.
- 23:17Speaker 3: You know. He's also in the music industry.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So I've got enough people that guide me as well,
- 23:23Speaker 1: because sometimes guys, I apologize and events. My knowledge is
- 23:27Speaker 1: enough to part with your knowledge on music. But when
- 23:29Speaker 1: you ask me questions about filming, I've got you. So
- 23:32Speaker 1: I might need to ask the band guys to educate
- 23:34Speaker 1: me a bit as we go about music, you know.
- 23:37Speaker 1: And one thing that Bud did for his which was
- 23:39Speaker 1: really good, and again the music, we'll love this and
- 23:42Speaker 1: just laugh at me, but it helped out so much
- 23:44Speaker 1: in the edit is when he bounced out the track
- 23:46Speaker 1: like the Martian version. He had like these three hit
- 23:48Speaker 1: three three hits at the start one two three, and
- 23:51Speaker 1: we use that when we recorded all the footage and everything.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Winds up perfectly.
- 23:56Speaker 1: So there's just things that will ask the band to do.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Like you said before, what do they need to prepare?
- 24:00Speaker 1: So we'll let them know what to prepare so it
- 24:02Speaker 1: makes it easy later on. So again, nothing ever changes
- 24:06Speaker 1: on the cost, like if they turn around and they
- 24:08Speaker 1: go oh or here you go.
- 24:10Speaker 3: If we did something and.
- 24:11Speaker 1: They say, oh, Chris, we really love this, but we'd
- 24:13Speaker 1: love if you could do some AI or CGI effect
- 24:16Speaker 1: here that wasn't discussed before. That's going to cost more money. Okay,
- 24:21Speaker 1: So we'll always lock everything down with the guys. But
- 24:23Speaker 1: if the bands want more guys, just saw that PlayStation.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Same PlayStation.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I keep saying PlayStation because I once met this filmmaker
- 24:31Speaker 1: who was doing a crowdfunding campaign and kept asking people
- 24:33Speaker 1: for money to make this movie, and yet the whole
- 24:36Speaker 1: time in his house he had like PlayStations and all
- 24:38Speaker 1: the stuff that refused to sell. And I always believe
- 24:40Speaker 1: if you're not willing to spend your own money, then
- 24:42Speaker 1: don't ask another man for money.
- 24:44Speaker 3: They're all one in that case.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So if you're not willing to back your own shit,
- 24:47Speaker 1: then don't do That's a I just remember this guy
- 24:49Speaker 1: in his PlayStation, So I keep saying that, and he
- 24:52Speaker 1: knows who the fuck is if he's watching this, you
- 24:54Speaker 1: know who you are.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Fuck it. So it's going to but yeah, but.
- 25:00Speaker 2: But but yeah, but just get a vary from video
- 25:03Speaker 2: to video what they want. But just say, as a
- 25:05Speaker 2: ballpark figure, Yeah, how much would a band be looking
- 25:08Speaker 2: at for a minimum? Straight out? Like? How much should
- 25:11Speaker 2: they be prepared to say before they come fro us here?
- 25:16Speaker 3: All right?
- 25:16Speaker 1: So if guys watch the video A delicate murder the
- 25:23Speaker 1: stage one that we'll link in the in the story
- 25:25Speaker 1: here that there, you know, it's about fifteen hundred bucks.
- 25:28Speaker 1: That's everything done, you know. But but no, sorry, that's
- 25:32Speaker 1: not everything done because the band paid for the stage
- 25:34Speaker 1: high So they paid for the stage studio one eight eight,
- 25:38Speaker 1: which was like three hundred and fifty bucks. So in
- 25:40Speaker 1: the end it would have cost like eighteen hundred and
- 25:41Speaker 1: fifty bucks, but the band paid for that. But look, no,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you're right, Like, so you know stage one, if it's
- 25:47Speaker 1: like what, we come down there and we shoot it
- 25:48Speaker 1: through the day, it's about five six hours. You're looking
- 25:50Speaker 1: about fifteen hundred bucks. That's everything going shoot at it
- 25:53Speaker 1: the whole lot. You know, anything on top of accommodation
- 25:56Speaker 1: or stage rental, that's on the band.
- 25:57Speaker 3: But we discuss all of that. If you're looking at
- 26:00Speaker 3: doing something sort of cool, like say.
- 26:04Speaker 1: You know you want to go out on location when
- 26:06Speaker 1: you're lighting whatever, you're looking between three and five thousand bucks.
- 26:09Speaker 1: If it's nothing over the top, right, like if you
- 26:12Speaker 1: start getting crazy guys and you do it now, he's going,
- 26:15Speaker 1: I want to teach people if you're going to treat
- 26:16Speaker 1: at night now again, the people with the phones, they
- 26:19Speaker 1: know damn Or you can't just go into the city
- 26:21Speaker 1: with no lighting and try and all of a sudden
- 26:23Speaker 1: things start getting dark, they start getting hard. You can't
- 26:25Speaker 1: just turn a phone on in the middle of a
- 26:27Speaker 1: fucking forest and start filming people.
- 26:30Speaker 3: So in the movie world, as soon as the sun
- 26:33Speaker 3: goes down, the cost goes up.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Okay, that's that when we know when we're making a movie,
- 26:39Speaker 1: when you're writing a script, you need all the lights. Okay,
- 26:42Speaker 1: so it's hard to say three grand if the band
- 26:46Speaker 1: wants to cheat everything at nighttime.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah right, So.
- 26:48Speaker 1: From the middle of a board and I want to
- 26:49Speaker 1: do a chase scene and they want to actresses running,
- 26:52Speaker 1: and you got wardrobe, and you got blood and you
- 26:53Speaker 1: got it all costs money. So the best thing for
- 26:56Speaker 1: people to do, guys, is because I don't want guys
- 26:58Speaker 1: to get scared either going oh shit, we can't for
- 27:00Speaker 1: three grand. You might not be able to ford three grand,
- 27:02Speaker 1: but guys, we might be able to make it for two.
- 27:04Speaker 1: You just need to talk to me first, ring me up,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and we say, look, this is what we can do,
- 27:08Speaker 1: right and otherwise if it's going to cost more, then
- 27:11Speaker 1: we just we go into pre production so you can
- 27:14Speaker 1: save up, We block it out, we work it out,
- 27:16Speaker 1: save a bit more money, and then we go and
- 27:18Speaker 1: shoot that motherfucker. You know, like, especially if you guys
- 27:21Speaker 1: know that you've got to crack a song and you
- 27:23Speaker 1: need to fucking crack a music video to go with it,
- 27:26Speaker 1: then give us a call. And by the way, I
- 27:28Speaker 1: don't want to just promote myself. There are so many talented,
- 27:31Speaker 1: fucking you know people that shoot music videos in this
- 27:34Speaker 1: country as well that'll be watching this as well. So
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'm plugging those guys too, man, Like there's enough work
- 27:40Speaker 1: for everybody. But what I'm saying to the guys out
- 27:42Speaker 1: there is something. I love the horror genre. So if
- 27:46Speaker 1: you want dark and fucked up, I can do that.
- 27:48Speaker 1: But I also wanted to pop the rap, you know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: I want to shoot that bleing man like fucking all
- 27:52Speaker 1: that cool shit. Like we can shoot anything you need, actresses, whatever,
- 27:57Speaker 1: we know, we can. We can bring these people in.
- 27:59Speaker 1: So it's just literally a matter of dude. And also
- 28:02Speaker 1: to it's like some of these music videos I've watched,
- 28:04Speaker 1: there's actual dialogue before they start, like they get into
- 28:07Speaker 1: like it's like shooting a little short film, right, So
- 28:11Speaker 1: to do that you need boom and mix and all
- 28:14Speaker 1: sorts of stuff, and we have all that.
