- 0:00Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Do you remember the end? You don't think
- 0:14Speaker 1: that they were rushing a little bit? No, I don't
- 0:16Speaker 1: remember the game. Why can we don't remember that? I
- 0:18Speaker 1: don't remember the drive? Ga Zalac, I'm FC. Baron Munich
- 0:24Speaker 1: came out with a new kid. Just lad came up
- 0:30Speaker 1: with a new kid. Jean Luke is from Tennessee, but
- 0:34Speaker 1: previously from Rhode Island. I wonder if he knows that
- 0:37Speaker 1: with the name like Joan Luke, he probably does. Is
- 0:39Speaker 1: one of the few people Eric talks to seem when
- 0:43Speaker 1: we first started, it was, you know, we'd bring in
- 0:46Speaker 1: new people. Part of the indoctrination is you have to
- 0:50Speaker 1: take a shower with Bruce Armstrong and sell them up.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You listen to the music radio, terrestrial music radio. You
- 0:56Speaker 1: don't know you are the snob snob in the history
- 1:01Speaker 1: of snobbery. All right, this is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:10Speaker 1: All right, it's your boy, Duce back in the host
- 1:12Speaker 1: seat just for a little while. Again. I'll let you boy,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't want to freak everybody out.
- 1:18Speaker 1: We're back, but yeah, Fred's out for a little bit today,
- 1:20Speaker 1: so we're hoping to get him at some point. Yeah,
- 1:22Speaker 1: and I mean you might even have some information. He's
- 1:24Speaker 1: a very high level meetings with with football today, trying
- 1:27Speaker 1: to figure out what's going on next week, which of
- 1:30Speaker 1: course training camp. We're just a little bit over a
- 1:33Speaker 1: week to go. However, we're gonna have to We're gonna
- 1:36Speaker 1: have to muddle through a couple more shows before any
- 1:38Speaker 1: new football news. But of course, Paul Parillo, Alexandra Alexandria
- 1:42Speaker 1: is that Alexandra Francisco of course is back on purpose?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Of course, Oh come on, I know who it is.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But that's right, right, that's that's you gotta mess up names.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's part of that comes with the gig. I say
- 1:54Speaker 1: this as d train. Of course, that was d trained
- 1:56Speaker 1: early on. Now moved on to deuce. But we're here
- 2:00Speaker 1: after bypassing sexual dissault. Sexual dissault, that was a that
- 2:03Speaker 1: was a good friend one. I do like that and
- 2:06Speaker 1: I've been dissaulted many times in my life, so yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 1: that but brought a full circle. But guys, we we
- 2:10Speaker 1: got a week to go here, and we just kind
- 2:12Speaker 1: of you know, we we we've gotten stranger things. We've
- 2:14Speaker 1: got like Star Wars that's gotten us through. But I
- 2:17Speaker 1: don't I don't know how we're gonna make it here
- 2:18Speaker 1: through through this last Well, the rookies are here right today,
- 2:22Speaker 1: reporting day. Injured guys, quarterbacks, you know, those those types
- 2:26Speaker 1: of people. It's reporting day for them. So it's getting
- 2:29Speaker 1: pretty real pretty fast. I saw Mac pulling in today,
- 2:32Speaker 1: so the to be excited we did pulled in behind him.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Little back safely arrived in front of Deuce today. A
- 2:37Speaker 1: little bit of a hold up at the gate. Yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: come on, let's go, let's go. I got things to do. Mac.
- 2:42Speaker 1: A little bit of adulation going on at the gate
- 2:44Speaker 1: to get in the parking lot. I gotta get in.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But uh, a big old smile on his face, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: it seems like he's he's ready, ready to go, and darna,
- 2:51Speaker 1: let's get this football thing going year two. But you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: we're still we're finding out, you know, first four four
- 2:57Speaker 1: days of practice next week Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. We'll
- 2:59Speaker 1: be live Patriots, unfiltered. We will for a little bit.
- 3:02Speaker 1: We do not know yet what time that will be?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Probably morning, but we're guessing morning because that's what it's
- 3:07Speaker 1: been in recent years. So there won't be regular shows. Well,
- 3:10Speaker 1: there'll be a regular show next Tuesday, and which which
- 3:13Speaker 1: you don't really need to listen to because I won't
- 3:15Speaker 1: be here. So oh yeah, so just cross only knows
- 3:17Speaker 1: that'll probably be the Star Wars show. Cross it off
- 3:19Speaker 1: the game. That's a good idea. Actually, if we got
- 3:21Speaker 1: Matt Moreau back but tis in the booth, I gotta
- 3:22Speaker 1: give him a shout out as well. So he's doing
- 3:25Speaker 1: it all. He's like, he can be on the show,
- 3:27Speaker 1: he can produce it, he does whatever needs to be done.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Any talents, many many talents. And yeah, so we're just
- 3:33Speaker 1: kind of see what these first few days of camp
- 3:35Speaker 1: are gonna look like. It's probably gonna be kind of boring,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I would guess a little bit, Paul right, like, no
- 3:39Speaker 1: no pads again, it's gonna be like and that's still
- 3:41Speaker 1: in that gray area where I'm not really sure exactly
- 3:43Speaker 1: what the rule is. But how many of those days
- 3:45Speaker 1: I know it used to be back in the day
- 3:46Speaker 1: when they first did this, it was two days they
- 3:48Speaker 1: had to be out of pads now I think it's
- 3:50Speaker 1: like five or four or five. So we'll do our
- 3:54Speaker 1: best to give you a taste of what's going on
- 3:57Speaker 1: on the field, but there won't be any real difference
- 4:02Speaker 1: between what we see Wednesday through Saturday and what we
- 4:05Speaker 1: talked about during the spring. Kind of mini camp like
- 4:08Speaker 1: mini camp Adjason almost Yeah, no pads, But it used
- 4:12Speaker 1: to be in the day you'd have your first that
- 4:13Speaker 1: first padded Saturday, usually with something to look forward to. Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 1: they always did goal line that first day with pads.
- 4:18Speaker 1: That was always something to look forward to. But at
- 4:20Speaker 1: least now I think you instead you circle the joint
- 4:25Speaker 1: practices because you know they'll be in pads. You're working
- 4:27Speaker 1: against another team. There's a little bit more intensity. You know.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It's by no means is it the real thing, but
- 4:33Speaker 1: it's much much closer to something of relevance than what
- 4:37Speaker 1: you see on a typical practice for sure. Well, Well,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Radio Patriots dot Com eight five five Pats five hundred
- 4:43Speaker 1: and give us a call. I love to hear from
- 4:45Speaker 1: you guys. Stupid games, music, movies, television opinions. I'd love
- 4:49Speaker 1: some games too. Well, guys could take care of me
- 4:51Speaker 1: before I go on vacation. Would love some of that,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and of course this will be your first season here
- 4:55Speaker 1: with what are you looking forward to here? I mean,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I know you've been around, like you're a great question, Yes,
- 5:00Speaker 1: what do you what do you think? You've been here
- 5:01Speaker 1: a little while so you know a little bit of
- 5:02Speaker 1: what's coming, and you've been to training camp in the past,
- 5:04Speaker 1: So what do you what do you think? You're on
- 5:06Speaker 1: the inside now? Yeah, um one, it's nice to go
- 5:09Speaker 1: outside for work. Hopefully it's not as hot as it's
- 5:12Speaker 1: going to be. Like the heat, though, you are such
- 5:14Speaker 1: a big guys, I'm really angry with you. I love
- 5:16Speaker 1: the heat. Like I was just telling someone upstairs that
- 5:19Speaker 1: I was in New Orleans in August and like everyone
- 5:22Speaker 1: around me was miserable, and I was just love in life.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I love the heat. It's so much better than being cold.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I think I like being cold better. I found it
- 5:30Speaker 1: easier to get warm than it is to get cool,
- 5:33Speaker 1: Like you could just wrap up on a blanket, put
- 5:34Speaker 1: a sweatshirt on. That's that's my thing. I don't mind
- 5:37Speaker 1: the heat. I just want humidity. Yeah, I guess, But
- 5:40Speaker 1: the humidity, you know, that's what gets me, not so
- 5:42Speaker 1: much the heat. It's it's this hum humidity, especially nowhere.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Nowhere worse was than in Tennessee when we were down there.
- 5:48Speaker 1: That was like you stepped out of the car and
- 5:50Speaker 1: you just started dripping. It was. That was particularly oppressive heat.
- 5:54Speaker 1: But I like, like Alex said, I would much rather,
- 5:58Speaker 1: you know, be in a situation where it's really way
- 6:00Speaker 1: warm than you know, dealing with like twenty degrees and
- 6:03Speaker 1: snow and all that crap. A real thing because we
- 6:05Speaker 1: come in on such a nice day here to work
- 6:07Speaker 1: and it's freezing all day. You don't see the you
- 6:10Speaker 1: don't see out the windows. I don't have anything to do.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm like, get me outside. Well, soon enough, we will
- 6:17Speaker 1: be out there plenty. And of course, what am I
- 6:19Speaker 1: complaining about? Like we're sitting like in the shade, and
- 6:21Speaker 1: these guys are like wearing full football pats and having
- 6:23Speaker 1: to fight each other for two hours and run and
- 6:25Speaker 1: do all those physical things. Like yeah, maybe you know
- 6:28Speaker 1: the running part of it. I'm done with that. I
- 6:30Speaker 1: gotta wear I gotta wear headphones up on the ramp
- 6:32Speaker 1: and my ears get sweaty. That's you know. I don't like.
- 6:34Speaker 1: That makes me uncomfortable. So Alex, what you know, you
- 6:38Speaker 1: were talking about you're just you know, getting being excited
- 6:41Speaker 1: about getting outside and enjoying that part of it. But
- 6:44Speaker 1: on the field, is there any player, anybody in particular
- 6:48Speaker 1: that you're sort of because I thought it was a
- 6:51Speaker 1: good question because we're always talking about the same stuff
- 6:53Speaker 1: all the time, to get a first time perspective of
- 6:58Speaker 1: what you're kind of looking forward to for camp. I'm
- 7:01Speaker 1: looking forward to seeing how some of the guys from
- 7:05Speaker 1: last year that maybe came in and underperformed quite significantly.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I just like, I'm really rooting for good camps out
- 7:11Speaker 1: of them. And I just like when narratives that are
- 7:15Speaker 1: around the team and that all the beat writers are
- 7:18Speaker 1: talking about just get kind of like shifted and just
- 7:22Speaker 1: like proven wrong. I don't know. I like that, I
- 7:25Speaker 1: do too, but I'm going to guess it's not for
- 7:26Speaker 1: the same reasons, right right, Well, And there's been plenty,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I mean, there's been plenty to talk about it. I mean,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I think you know the whole offensive operation and how
- 7:35Speaker 1: does that go? What able and inside are you able
- 7:37Speaker 1: to get in practice? Are they going to be throwing
- 7:39Speaker 1: fakes at us a little bit, maybe trying to confuse people.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I don't know, it just seems like a lot of effort.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it. You know. It was part
- 7:48Speaker 1: of the mail bag this week that went up, the
- 7:50Speaker 1: abbreviated vacation version of the mail bag. But just like
- 7:55Speaker 1: the on the field, I want to see the speed
- 7:59Speaker 1: that they supposedly acquired in the draft. I want to
- 8:02Speaker 1: see if it's noticeable and when you're out there, and
- 8:05Speaker 1: it won't be. It won't be next Wednesday. It'd be
- 8:07Speaker 1: more like a week from then, when it's you know,
- 8:10Speaker 1: a couple of days and pads. You're a week into camp,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you're starting to get tired, and if that speed is
- 8:17Speaker 1: still apparent, you know, Taekwon, Thornton, Pierre Strong, Marcus and
- 8:22Speaker 1: Jack Jones, those kinds of guys. I want to see
- 8:24Speaker 1: if the forty times that we read about in April
- 8:28Speaker 1: translate to July and August on the practice field and
- 8:31Speaker 1: then obviously moving forward to the regular season. But that's
- 8:34Speaker 1: one thing that I'm sort of looking for. That was
- 8:36Speaker 1: we were talking a little bit upstairs about you get
- 8:39Speaker 1: so excited for camp. I'm certainly excited for camp, but
- 8:42Speaker 1: even the joint practices are you know, especially interesting to
- 8:45Speaker 1: watch a real competition, different team different players, especially when
- 8:48Speaker 1: you get to that point a couple of weeks in
- 8:49Speaker 1: you've been watching enough of the Patriots on Patriots that
- 8:52Speaker 1: you're ready for something new. The players are ready for
- 8:54Speaker 1: something new. But something Paul and I were talking about
- 8:56Speaker 1: upstairs was that, you know, as much as I think
- 8:58Speaker 1: you could take away maybe from that Giants in practice
- 9:00Speaker 1: last year, like Mac looked pretty good. I mean he
- 9:02Speaker 1: was you know, we got an opportunity, he made some throws.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I think that was when the excitement around him started
- 9:07Speaker 1: to build. But how much do you really feel like
- 9:09Speaker 1: you can take from those joint practices and realistically extrapolate
- 9:14Speaker 1: into the regular season what you're expecting to see. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: just each time I watch these things, it gets harder
- 9:19Speaker 1: and harder for me to say we're getting definitive facts
- 9:23Speaker 1: from training camp practices, and the reality of it is,
- 9:27Speaker 1: no matter what it kind of looks like, good or bad,
- 9:30Speaker 1: you don't know until you get out there against Miami
- 9:32Speaker 1: in Week one and you really start to play like
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Well, that's that's for sure
- 9:36Speaker 1: in the summer in general, and I think I thought
- 9:39Speaker 1: the Patriots in the preseason games last year looked as
- 9:42Speaker 1: strong in the summer as I've seen them in recent memory.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I thought their preseason performances last year were dominant. Really,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it doesn't mean anything, It really doesn't. Now. I do
- 9:53Speaker 1: think that the joint practices are a little bit better barometer,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and I think, if you want to be real simplistic,
- 9:59Speaker 1: and I admit this is really simplistic, but I thought
- 10:03Speaker 1: they had their way with the Giants, and I thought
- 10:06Speaker 1: the Eagles kind of had an edge, but it was
- 10:08Speaker 1: a little bit more readed. The Eagles dominated Day one.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I thought Day two was pretty even, and then you
- 10:14Speaker 1: look and you extrapolate from that the Giants sucked. So okay,
- 10:17Speaker 1: the Patriots were much better than the Giants, but the
- 10:19Speaker 1: Giants weren't any good. And then the Eagles it was
- 10:22Speaker 1: more even, and the Eagles were a playoff team. Yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and you know, they found a way to be around
- 10:27Speaker 1: five hundred, kind of similar to the Patriots. I think
- 10:30Speaker 1: they would nine and eight, the Patriots would ten and seven,
- 10:32Speaker 1: So they kind of had similar records and they both
- 10:35Speaker 1: made the playoffs. So very simplistic, I know, but you
- 10:40Speaker 1: can sort of extrapolate a little bit from that. Yeah, Well,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I mean, of course you're gonna overanalyze every little detail
- 10:46Speaker 1: and everything, but it's just at the end of the day,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you really wonder, other than a couple of key pieces
- 10:52Speaker 1: when game you know, when they're really not game planning,
- 10:54Speaker 1: they're really not trying to do anything, and I don't know,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I think you get a little bit carried away. But
- 11:00Speaker 1: you know, another thing I was thinking about too though
- 11:01Speaker 1: with the heat is, of course we're going to have
- 11:02Speaker 1: the conditioning test for all these players that they have
- 11:05Speaker 1: to run, which is always something that plays into potential
- 11:08Speaker 1: pup lists coming out later this week. Guys, I know
- 11:11Speaker 1: there's been some speculation about James White, is he going
- 11:14Speaker 1: to be able to go? Marcus Jones was a guy
- 11:16Speaker 1: you mentioned Paul who had both shoulder surgery. You know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: is he going to be able to go? I think
- 11:22Speaker 1: those guys are two of kind of the headliners. I mean,
- 11:25Speaker 1: i'd love to see, you know, Ray Kwa, McMillan, Cameron mcgrown,
- 11:27Speaker 1: guys at tore ACLS last year. Bill Peppers, your Bill
- 11:30Speaker 1: Peppers if they're able to go. But that's probably the
- 11:33Speaker 1: first little bit of information we'll get along with the
- 11:35Speaker 1: guys who don't pass the conditioning test. Probably you won't
- 11:38Speaker 1: know Billy to be able to discern. But I'm sure
- 11:40Speaker 1: Trump Brown's gonna be lugging his three hundred, and you'll
- 11:42Speaker 1: see something probably this week. Right, the people that are
- 11:45Speaker 1: reporting today when they get out in the field, if
- 11:47Speaker 1: they can't get on the field, I think you might
- 11:49Speaker 1: read about some of that at this point. That's always
- 11:53Speaker 1: interesting and you know, kind of a rule of thumb,
- 11:55Speaker 1: not one percent, but if you know what guy is
- 11:58Speaker 1: dealing with an injury and he's on PUP, it's probably
- 12:01Speaker 1: reasonable to suggest that physically he's not ready to take
- 12:04Speaker 1: the test yet. If you don't have any idea that
- 12:07Speaker 1: a guy is injured and all of a sudden he's
- 12:09Speaker 1: on PUP, that might be a red flag of the
- 12:12Speaker 1: conditioning test, especially if he ends up coming off like
- 12:14Speaker 1: two or three days later. Yeah, that means he got
- 12:17Speaker 1: to retake it, past it and was cleared. Yeah. The
- 12:20Speaker 1: other partly made me think it was Leonard Fournette. I
- 12:22Speaker 1: think the report that he was fifty fitty after role
- 12:25Speaker 1: of Paul Parola was Leonard Fournette. After coming up here
- 12:28Speaker 1: to visit, right, he took like one of those like
- 12:29Speaker 1: quote unquote visits to the Patriot. Then Brady was like,
- 12:32Speaker 1: what are you doing? But I mean I thought about
- 12:34Speaker 1: Brady where he seems like the kind of guy that's
- 12:38Speaker 1: like that's not flying with him, you know, like I
- 12:40Speaker 1: feel like he made night. Yeah right, it's the tomatoes.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm sure it's the tomatoes. Think that got Leonard Fournette
- 12:46Speaker 1: and trouble tomatoes a strawberries and boot him over the top.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But you know it's just you wonder what Tampa like,
- 12:51Speaker 1: how do you keep it going? Bringo Brady setting set
- 12:54Speaker 1: in the bar with Leonard Fournett, I mean, always been
- 12:56Speaker 1: a big guy, but again an interesting little thing. And
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know I mentioned Trent Brown, Michael Win, you those
- 13:02Speaker 1: big linemen that are gonna have to be out there
- 13:04Speaker 1: moving things around. Uh. But you know what, Actually, one
- 13:08Speaker 1: other thing I want to talk. I don't want to.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't want to undercut Fred
- 13:11Speaker 1: with this announcement, not the announcement that the Patriots unfiltered
- 13:15Speaker 1: getting mentioned. A few people have emailed in this morning, um,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and I want to leave it for Fred, but I'll
- 13:20Speaker 1: just problem in me a little bit, which was on
- 13:23Speaker 1: a recent episode of Political Gabfests with John Dickerson of
- 13:28Speaker 1: CBS News, was this. I think I got an email
- 13:31Speaker 1: forwarded from Stacy. Maybe it might have been. I mean,
- 13:34Speaker 1: there are on this podcast, like out of Nowhere. They
- 13:38Speaker 1: basically credited PFW and Progress as one of the original, uh,
- 13:43Speaker 1: one of the original podcasts. Pretty cool. I think Matt
- 13:47Speaker 1: Morrell was going to pull the sound. We don't have
- 13:49Speaker 1: him today though, but that did. He did pull the sound,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but he is not with us today. But I'll let
- 13:55Speaker 1: I'll let Fred really really talk about it. But it's
- 13:57Speaker 1: a pretty cool clip out of Nowhere kind of credit
- 14:00Speaker 1: this show, which I think when you were first on here, Alex,
- 14:02Speaker 1: we pointed out like that this was one of the
- 14:04Speaker 1: og podcasts. There is a very real possibility that we
- 14:09Speaker 1: would the original podcast. Sniff. Yeah, a number of different
- 14:14Speaker 1: people emailed in. I'm trying to find one one of
- 14:17Speaker 1: the one of the people wrote in and actually had
- 14:18Speaker 1: the whole quote written out here it is, I'm gonna
- 14:22Speaker 1: read it. Why don't you read it. I'm gonna read it.
- 14:23Speaker 1: We gotta slowly. You have the audio, but you can
- 14:25Speaker 1: read it. Yeah, well we'll read it first to kind
- 14:27Speaker 1: of set the stage. But this is John Dickerson saying,
- 14:30Speaker 1: I did you know that basically one of the first
- 14:32Speaker 1: podcasts was launched by the New England Patriots in August
- 14:34Speaker 1: to two thousand. They did a show called PFWM Progress
- 14:37Speaker 1: and it was a live show that was recorded and
- 14:38Speaker 1: you could get it on demand at Patriots dot com.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I don't know if that technically counts as a podcast,
- 14:43Speaker 1: but I think that was one of the first or
- 14:45Speaker 1: vies for some space to be in the beginning of
- 14:47Speaker 1: this form, which Mark Leibovich countered, which accurately interestingly, this
- 14:53Speaker 1: was the year Tom Brady was drafted, so everyone credits
- 14:55Speaker 1: him for turning the fortune of the Patriots around after
- 14:57Speaker 1: years of nap too. Well, maybe it was the podcast.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Maybe maybe it was. Do you think Paul was it
- 15:02Speaker 1: you guys that inspired Yes, the team on the Great
- 15:04Speaker 1: it was Fred and Paul that created the Dynasty. I
- 15:07Speaker 1: just googled the history of podcasts because I know there's
- 15:10Speaker 1: a guy named Adam Curry. Who is the old Adam Curry? Right,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I don't know that name? Oh my gosh, maybe, um
- 15:19Speaker 1: I forget what show you the hair Alex, Yeah, he
- 15:22Speaker 1: does have a lot of hair, like long, hairy, kind
- 15:25Speaker 1: of crazy. Yeah, so I thought it was him. So
- 15:28Speaker 1: I just looked up history of podcasting real quick. So
- 15:31Speaker 1: October two thousand they're talking about like RSS feeds coming
- 15:36Speaker 1: into play, and then there's a whole section that says
- 15:39Speaker 1: the first on demand radio show and the first podcast,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and the first paragraph is in August two thousand, the
- 15:45Speaker 1: New England Patriots launched the internet radio show PFW in Progress.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It was a live show that was recorded, made available
- 15:51Speaker 1: blah blah blah. But Wikipedia is giving you guys credit,
- 15:54Speaker 1: so must it must be real. It's because they cash
- 15:57Speaker 1: the check. Thank you Wikipedia. Pretty cool. So that was Fred,
- 16:02Speaker 1: myself and brianon Innovator. I mean listeners of this of
- 16:06Speaker 1: this of this podcast, no, I mean it goes beyond
- 16:08Speaker 1: just this podcast, but other things. I mean, cyber Sideline
- 16:12Speaker 1: was that was That was one of cyber Sideline was
- 16:14Speaker 1: basically what you think of is the nightly news on
- 16:18Speaker 1: let's just say the sports report, right, So instead of
- 16:21Speaker 1: a half hour of all news, you know, like news, weather, sports,
- 16:24Speaker 1: it was just fifteen minutes of Jess Patriots. And we
- 16:29Speaker 1: did it every day. Not to give Fred like too
- 16:33Speaker 1: much credit while he's not here. That's why we're doing
- 16:35Speaker 1: it now. He deserves that's all. The talent did not
- 16:38Speaker 1: realize at all that Patriots dot Com was in existence before,
- 16:43Speaker 1: like any major sports league had their own website. It's
- 16:46Speaker 1: the first team website. Um, the newspaper, not that anybody
- 16:51Speaker 1: cares about that, but the newspaper was the first all
- 16:55Speaker 1: color team, team run newspaper. There's a lot of first
- 17:00Speaker 1: and Jonathan Kraft, and it's really Jonathan Craft who deserves
- 17:03Speaker 1: and I'm not saying that because he's our boss and
- 17:06Speaker 1: owner and whatnot, but he's the one that was sort
- 17:09Speaker 1: of the driving force behind a lot of these innovations.
- 17:12Speaker 1: All right, well, we got some got some calls rolling in,
- 17:14Speaker 1: we got some emails rolling in. Appreciate you guys. Let's
- 17:17Speaker 1: let's let's take Neil from Winnipeg. We're not We're ninety
- 17:19Speaker 1: percent sure it's Neil. We'll see exactly. Hey, what's going on?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Hey guys, how's it going good? What's up? Great to
- 17:28Speaker 1: hear you talk about the past. I've been a listener
- 17:31Speaker 1: actually since two thousand and three. I found that I've
- 17:35Speaker 1: found it about midway through the two thousand and three season,
- 17:37Speaker 1: and that was the only podcast I had. These days,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I have like thirty podcasts. I wasn't to do, but
- 17:43Speaker 1: back then you guys were the one. How do you
- 17:47Speaker 1: keep track of all? That's what I let. I let
- 17:51Speaker 1: my phone do it. But yeah, okay, Paul joke kind
- 17:55Speaker 1: of went under the radar when he set playing the
- 17:57Speaker 1: role of Paul Purlows Leonard Fournett. That was good. I
- 18:02Speaker 1: had you, guys. So I'm from Winnipeg, but I have
- 18:04Speaker 1: family in Boston and the New England area and I'm
- 18:07Speaker 1: looking to visit in the fall. And so I've narrowed
- 18:10Speaker 1: it down to three games that I'm possibly going to
- 18:13Speaker 1: go to. Let's go. So I just wanted to year
- 18:16Speaker 1: guys to be back. Um, so the Ravens, the Bears,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and the Lions. You got to go to the Bears games,
- 18:23Speaker 1: then Nikkil Harry Revenge. Uh No. Out of those three,
- 18:28Speaker 1: to me, it would be Baltimore is the best, the
- 18:30Speaker 1: best team by far. I think we'll be Baltimore. And
- 18:32Speaker 1: also I mean the Bears the Monday night or two,
- 18:34Speaker 1: so that you know something to consider for your weekend.
- 18:36Speaker 1: But home opener against the Ravens, I think that would
- 18:40Speaker 1: be my pick two. Yeah, Ravens would be yeah, you
- 18:43Speaker 1: know what, I was kind of leaning that way. They're
- 18:45Speaker 1: probably the probably the best team and probably the best matchup,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and we've had a good history with the Ravens. Should
- 18:52Speaker 1: be a good home opener to the energy. I think
- 18:54Speaker 1: I don't think he can match it. They're in the
- 18:56Speaker 1: stadium for that one. But yeah, check in, let us
- 18:58Speaker 1: know how it goes, for sure, Yeah, for sure. Okay,
- 19:01Speaker 1: Well you guys have a great day, have a great shows,
- 19:05Speaker 1: go one a lot of people. How is you know
- 19:07Speaker 1: checking in about what where to go, where to stay,
- 19:09Speaker 1: where to eat? Yeah, we need Eric for that. We
- 19:13Speaker 1: should direct that to the Trust Department, aren't you? When
- 19:18Speaker 1: I want to be Yeah, what would your food recommendations
- 19:21Speaker 1: be for somebody who was coming here to Foxboro for
- 19:24Speaker 1: a game at you know, you've been here a few
- 19:25Speaker 1: months now, You've had a chance to sample everything. Smoothies
- 19:31Speaker 1: five guys smoothies or five guys five guys is a
- 19:34Speaker 1: great burger. But um, I think if you're coming to
- 19:37Speaker 1: this area in general, the eating probably has to be
- 19:41Speaker 1: done in Providence in Boston. Um, yeah, I would you
- 19:45Speaker 1: got to get Italian? I don't know. I think the
- 19:47Speaker 1: North End is like you just can't really create recreate
- 19:51Speaker 1: a vibe like that made Federal Hill and Providence or
- 19:53Speaker 1: something good options down there. But Eric gets really bad
- 19:57Speaker 1: when you say, how could the North End is? And
- 19:59Speaker 1: he gets it's really like I get that too, but
- 20:02Speaker 1: it's part of the ambiance. Like if you're not if
- 20:04Speaker 1: you're from if you're not from here, Like I don't
- 20:06Speaker 1: want to go to the North End right now for dinner,
- 20:08Speaker 1: But if I was moved away and came to visit,
- 20:10Speaker 1: that's probably one of the places I would miss a lot.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You just can't really get good Italian food anywhere else now.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's it's such an underrated thing about Providence and a
- 20:18Speaker 1: lot of people don't realize. And like, my wife didn't
- 20:20Speaker 1: grow up here, she grew up in California and we
- 20:21Speaker 1: moved back, and you know, just went down there for
- 20:23Speaker 1: a couple of nights for dinners and stuff and was just,
- 20:25Speaker 1: you know, blown away by the food scene down there.
- 20:27Speaker 1: It's something you don't really super under expect. Also a
- 20:30Speaker 1: great donuts scene, which you know, like the donuts, right, Polly, Yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 1: apparently they look like I know what he's talking about
- 20:37Speaker 1: the time we like donuts where donut guys, aren't we
- 20:40Speaker 1: I liked everything. Apparently there's a player on the Revolution
- 20:43Speaker 1: whose family owns a Mexican little takailla in Providence too
- 20:47Speaker 1: that I need to check out. Willie from rev Social
- 20:50Speaker 1: said it was great. That sounds intrigued to me. I think,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I think it is hard to get good authentic Mexican
- 20:55Speaker 1: yeah around here. But that's the one thing I say
- 20:58Speaker 1: that is coming from California, where that's a big difference.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's almost the opposite of the Italian thing, where it's
- 21:03Speaker 1: like you could go. I mean, a friend of mine
- 21:05Speaker 1: lived in East Los Angeles and there should be every
- 21:07Speaker 1: night across the street. These people were just at their house.
- 21:09Speaker 1: They just start grilling for people and making tacos for
- 21:12Speaker 1: like a dollar and still among some of the best
- 21:15Speaker 1: best food I've ever had there. So I have a
- 21:17Speaker 1: place for you, but you have to go to West
- 21:19Speaker 1: Dennis to find it. It's a little I speak Dennis.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I speak Dennis, don't work cool La Taco Della and Dennis.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's like a little food truck. But they have a
- 21:28Speaker 1: cute little area set up with like chairs and stuff.
- 21:32Speaker 1: It's awesome. It's attached to I think like a farm
- 21:34Speaker 1: to table, really fine dining, experienced restaurant. But that taco
- 21:40Speaker 1: truck they it blew my mind, it's so good. I
- 21:44Speaker 1: need one like that, And I wish I had known
- 21:45Speaker 1: this weekend. I was down there a few emails to
- 21:48Speaker 1: get to here is as they're starting to come in
- 21:50Speaker 1: appreciate these. You know, this one's from Dan saying, you know,
- 21:54Speaker 1: I try to be an optimistic fan but also realistic.
- 21:57Speaker 1: What do you think is a realistic best case scenario
- 21:59Speaker 1: for the season? And my hope is that the offense
- 22:01Speaker 1: is significantly improved right away so that they have a
- 22:04Speaker 1: fighter's chance in games early on while the defense struggles.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Then hopefully the defense starts to gel by Thanksgiving and
- 22:09Speaker 1: they string together some wins at the end of the
- 22:11Speaker 1: season to squeak into the playoffs. I mean, I mean,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I guess that's a realistic best case scenario, but you know,
- 22:17Speaker 1: it's not like Wow, a wow scenario of positivity, right Like,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I don't think anybody's scenario is like we go undefeated
- 22:24Speaker 1: and right well, I just I feel like there's I mean,
- 22:27Speaker 1: nobody's nobody's making that claim, obviously, but I just feel
- 22:30Speaker 1: like even the most optimistic Patriot fans right now, are
- 22:34Speaker 1: you know ten eleven ten eleven? And I know I
- 22:36Speaker 1: think that that is very optimistic, but I still don't
- 22:39Speaker 1: really seem many people beaten the drum for thirteen fourteen
- 22:44Speaker 1: wins for obvious reasons. I mean, I think there are
- 22:47Speaker 1: plenty plenty of questions about, you know, where the team
- 22:49Speaker 1: is right now and where the rest of the league is.
- 22:52Speaker 1: But you know, I think is I think, as he
- 22:54Speaker 1: laid it out, Paul, that that feels kind of like
- 22:58Speaker 1: what you would expect if it kind of went the plan.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Of course, injuries could play a huge role in side
- 23:02Speaker 1: side make things go sideways, but you know, overall, I
- 23:07Speaker 1: think that's probably a general if you're thinking positive about
- 23:10Speaker 1: this season, that, yeah, I will say. And I feel
- 23:13Speaker 1: like I argue with Fred about this every year when
- 23:16Speaker 1: he tells me how people aren't you know, people are
- 23:19Speaker 1: disrespecting the Patriots, people don't think much of the Pagriot
- 23:22Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah blah, and it's never true. This year,
- 23:25Speaker 1: there isn't really a tremendous amount of optimism among Patriots
- 23:29Speaker 1: fans about the Patriots. There is some in pockets here
- 23:32Speaker 1: and there, but I think a lot of people like,
- 23:35Speaker 1: if they could win ten games, that would be like
- 23:38Speaker 1: really exceeding most expectations. So I don't think that there
- 23:42Speaker 1: have been a lot of you know, thirteen fourteen win
- 23:46Speaker 1: predictions like that have been in the past, not a
- 23:48Speaker 1: lot of Super Bowl predictions like there seemed to be
- 23:50Speaker 1: every year. I mean as recently as November, people were
- 23:53Speaker 1: predicting this team to be in the super Bowl. You know,
- 23:56Speaker 1: when they were nine and four. Everybody and their brother
- 23:58Speaker 1: had the Patriots in the Super Bowl because we just
- 24:00Speaker 1: don't know how to act anymore, like our brains are broken. Well,
- 24:03Speaker 1: I think the second I think the stretch drive of
- 24:05Speaker 1: the season really had a lasting impression because not only
- 24:08Speaker 1: you weren't able to win any of the games, you
- 24:10Speaker 1: really weren't competitive in any of them. You got manhandled
- 24:14Speaker 1: in those four losses and fell behind by multiple scores
- 24:17Speaker 1: and all of them. And really, I think that has
- 24:21Speaker 1: made a lasting impression on a lot of people. Well certainly,
- 24:24Speaker 1: I mean, you remember in the last game, they actually
- 24:25Speaker 1: didn't they didn't even force a punt, and that last
- 24:27Speaker 1: one is twice out of those last four games. As
- 24:29Speaker 1: we said, But yeah, it's um, I just it's hard
- 24:33Speaker 1: to it's hard to look past Mac And I know
- 24:36Speaker 1: I've said in the past, you know, I am a
- 24:38Speaker 1: I love defense. I love the you know, the linebackers,
- 24:41Speaker 1: the defensive line, but and I have my concerns about that,
- 24:44Speaker 1: but it just feels like the defense isn't really even
- 24:47Speaker 1: gonna matter if Mac doesn't take a you know, a
- 24:49Speaker 1: big step forward. And you know, I know everyone's been
- 24:53Speaker 1: talking about the offensive coordinator thing and all that, and
- 24:56Speaker 1: you know it has to work, you know, like it's
- 24:58Speaker 1: just there's nothing you can't mess around with that. It
- 25:01Speaker 1: feels like that that's where the critical part of this
- 25:03Speaker 1: team is. And even if you come out of this season,
- 25:04Speaker 1: well the defense didn't ever quite find it, at least
- 25:07Speaker 1: if you feel like you got some pieces to build
- 25:09Speaker 1: around Mac and some pieces coming back next year. On off,
- 25:11Speaker 1: Matt to me, if you if you feel really good
- 25:13Speaker 1: about Mac heading into year three, at least you have hope,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know. I think that's the big difference is I
- 25:21Speaker 1: think people are cautiously optimistic about Mac if you think,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, he has a great year two regardless of
- 25:29Speaker 1: what the rest of it is. You know, they'll have
- 25:31Speaker 1: some money, they'll have some guys coming off the books,
- 25:33Speaker 1: they'll have an opportunity to sort of revamp things. And
- 25:36Speaker 1: you have a quarterback that you feel really good about. Yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 1: I think that's worthy of excitement. But again, I think
- 25:41Speaker 1: it goes back to the draft, and you know it's
- 25:44Speaker 1: certainly been you know, a couple of articles written after
- 25:47Speaker 1: Harry left last week of one of the one of
- 25:49Speaker 1: the nails in the coffin of that twenty nineteen draft class.
- 25:53Speaker 1: But I mean, for me, it's the twenty twenty class,
- 25:55Speaker 1: the twenty twenty one class, the twenty twenty two class
- 25:57Speaker 1: this year that you know, we're going to really come
- 26:00Speaker 1: into focus and finally have some opportunities, Richard writes in
- 26:04Speaker 1: pointing out Madden, which hopefully we'll be getting soon. Paul,
- 26:07Speaker 1: that's that's one of my favorite parts of the year. Yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Just you know, as a point of fact, if I
- 26:11Speaker 1: start tweeting out Madden numbers like I've been seeing on
- 26:15Speaker 1: my Twitter feed today, just you know, you feel free
- 26:18Speaker 1: to just take whatever brand of gun you have and
- 26:20Speaker 1: just shoot me right in the head and put me
- 26:21Speaker 1: out of my misery. Well, well, Richard's got one for you,
- 26:23Speaker 1: the tycon Thorne only ninety five Speed, only ninety five Speed,
- 26:27Speaker 1: um ran A four two eight and um But I
- 26:31Speaker 1: know we have some fun with all these numbers. Right, Like,
- 26:33Speaker 1: all this stuff comes out and you kind of use
- 26:35Speaker 1: it as a gauge. Now we're bitching about Madden numbers. Yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 1: they didn't. They didn't do the the risk size though.
- 26:40Speaker 1: That's not that's not something that that comes into the
- 26:43Speaker 1: Madden ratings. Imagine if that just was implemented this year.
- 26:46Speaker 1: The highest rated receiver they had was Hunter Henry. Yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 1: out of you know, they were all basically bunched together
- 26:54Speaker 1: in the low eighties, it was Henry born Parker. But
- 26:59Speaker 1: no Henry Parker born Agilore Myers. We're all between eighty
- 27:04Speaker 1: eighty and eighty four something like that, with Henry being
- 27:07Speaker 1: one of the only guys I think, the only guy
- 27:09Speaker 1: right that snuck into any of those top ten. Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 1: he tied ten. And would you say he had he
- 27:15Speaker 1: had about what you what you would expect from him
- 27:18Speaker 1: last year? Yeah, yeah, I would say so. I think
- 27:20Speaker 1: he met expectations. He played well. I thought nine touchdowns.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I think you'll sign up for that again this year, right,
- 27:28Speaker 1: I will. And Jonah Smith also received some votes among
- 27:32Speaker 1: the honorable mentions of that tight end group. But those
- 27:36Speaker 1: are the only two Patriots to appear at all. Something
- 27:38Speaker 1: like I think I made the comment to you guys
- 27:41Speaker 1: last week and Alex, I don't think you were here
- 27:43Speaker 1: when we did this. But so ESPN does these these
- 27:47Speaker 1: lists and they're, you know, polling fifty random coaches, executives,
- 27:54Speaker 1: you know, different kind of NFL people, And I was
- 28:00Speaker 1: little my eyes were opened by the lack of presence
- 28:02Speaker 1: for any of the Patriots four safeties. And there was
- 28:05Speaker 1: twenty three different safeties that received mentioning. It was a
- 28:08Speaker 1: top ten, there was the best of the rest, and
- 28:11Speaker 1: then were honorable mentions. So those are basically if you
- 28:14Speaker 1: got a vote at all. Twenty three different safeties got
- 28:18Speaker 1: votes and none of them were Patriots. I was really
- 28:20Speaker 1: surprised by that. Is that what it is? I was
- 28:22Speaker 1: I was wondering after Tuesday's show when we were talking
- 28:26Speaker 1: about this, like, is it a set number of people
- 28:29Speaker 1: that are pulled? Is it fifty? Is it? Like? How
- 28:31Speaker 1: where's the representation coming from? I'd love more of that
- 28:33Speaker 1: across the league. And it's, like I said, it's it's all,
- 28:38Speaker 1: but like to me, it's much more valuable than you know,
- 28:44Speaker 1: John Smith from Pro Football Focus or you know Bill
- 28:48Speaker 1: Jones from some other you know, Warren Sharp Site and
- 28:51Speaker 1: Warren Sharp had these rankings too, And no disrespect for
- 28:55Speaker 1: the analytics. Believe me, I just as many times as
- 28:58Speaker 1: I you know, sort of poked fun at the end. Analytics.
- 29:00Speaker 1: No disrespect for what they're doing. But those are just
- 29:03Speaker 1: strictly numbers based in there. It's data. This is the
- 29:06Speaker 1: opinion of people in the league. You're calling them nerds. No,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I'm not not at all they are, but I'm not
- 29:12Speaker 1: calling them that. Um Again, this is I put more
- 29:17Speaker 1: stocked into you know, Bill Belichick's opinion as opposed to
- 29:22Speaker 1: pro football focuses, if that makes sense some random writer
- 29:25Speaker 1: who you know what I mean. And I'm not suggesting
- 29:26Speaker 1: that Bill Belichick is one of the coaches that's doing
- 29:28Speaker 1: this ranking, but I'm saying that's it's football people and
- 29:33Speaker 1: this is what they think. And I was, you know, four,
- 29:36Speaker 1: you have four safeties to me that were candidates to
- 29:39Speaker 1: be among the top ten, and none of them were.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I was a little surprised by that. Well, I appreciate
- 29:46Speaker 1: Cody sending in a game, but I'm quickly realizing it's
- 29:48Speaker 1: like a Patriot's Deep Dive history game and you might
- 29:56Speaker 1: gike a table it and go later if you want. Yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 1: maybe we'll say, maybe you want to do it now,
- 30:00Speaker 1: you know, usually better after I eat. But yeah, well
- 30:03Speaker 1: we'll say we'll say the game because there are some
- 30:06Speaker 1: other good football ones. Um. Matt writing in and you know,
- 30:11Speaker 1: drawing on the conversation we had last week about Drew
- 30:13Speaker 1: Brees and he's just wondering if we think that Peyton
- 30:17Speaker 1: Manning and Aaron Rodgers are overrated, especially with the teams
- 30:20Speaker 1: that Manning had with the Colts for that era and
- 30:22Speaker 1: only got one ring, lots of disappointing. Do you think
- 30:26Speaker 1: he was better than Tom Brady? Um? I think it's
- 30:30Speaker 1: a there's a nuance to that question that I think
- 30:33Speaker 1: if you designed a quarterback in a lab, it would
- 30:35Speaker 1: be Peyton Mane. But what I'm saying, do you think
- 30:37Speaker 1: that the emailer thinks that Tom Brady was better than
- 30:39Speaker 1: Peyton Manning? Probably? Then why is it a disappointment that
- 30:42Speaker 1: he only won one ring? Yeah, he had to get
- 30:44Speaker 1: past Tom Brady. Did he win too? Yeah, he actually
- 30:48Speaker 1: does have two rings. But are he's talking about the Colts? Yeah?
- 30:52Speaker 1: I mean, like I, I don't think that that Manning
- 30:56Speaker 1: or Rodgers is overrated. I would take Brady over both
- 30:59Speaker 1: of those guys. And I really wouldn't have to think
- 31:01Speaker 1: too much about it, because I think there's an intangible
- 31:03Speaker 1: quality about Brady that I've not really ever seen with
- 31:06Speaker 1: anybody else. I'm not telling you that Rogers is I
- 31:11Speaker 1: kind of am telling you. I don't think Rogers is clutch.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I think Manning is clutch. I think Manning has a
- 31:16Speaker 1: reputation because they had so many really disappointing losses in
- 31:20Speaker 1: the playoffs that somehow, you know how we remember we
- 31:24Speaker 1: talked last week about some guys just have like great
- 31:27Speaker 1: fortune and some guys, you know, have different things that
- 31:31Speaker 1: happened to them, you know that really has nothing to
- 31:33Speaker 1: do with their ability. Peyton Manning has an incredible amount
- 31:37Speaker 1: of bad fortune tied to a lot of his losses.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And I'm not telling you he's always been off the hook.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I was watching Pittsburgh loss, but I was watching on
- 31:46Speaker 1: NFL Network the other day. They were showing the Ravens
- 31:53Speaker 1: Broncos playoff game. Year the Ravens won the Super Bowl,
- 31:57Speaker 1: And yeah, like part of it is on Manning because
- 32:02Speaker 1: he throws a terrible interception in overtime, and it was
- 32:05Speaker 1: he was rolling out to his right, throws back across
- 32:07Speaker 1: his body. He never on his best day had the
- 32:10Speaker 1: arm strength to do that stuff, and he did it
- 32:12Speaker 1: got picked off, and that's how they lost in overtime.
- 32:16Speaker 1: But don't you think it's an incredible amount of misfortune
- 32:19Speaker 1: to have that bomb that Flacco completes to tie the
- 32:23Speaker 1: game and oh, by the way, tie the game at
- 32:25Speaker 1: thirty five, right, and you lose. You put thirty five
- 32:29Speaker 1: points on the board and you end up losing, and
- 32:31Speaker 1: you lose ultimately because you throw an interception in overtime
- 32:35Speaker 1: that should have never even that should never even been
- 32:37Speaker 1: in overtime. And again I'm not absolving Manning of that.
- 32:40Speaker 1: He threw the pick like that's you know, part of
- 32:42Speaker 1: that is on him, whereas like other things happen, like
- 32:46Speaker 1: you know, Brady throws a horrendous pick in the Super
- 32:49Speaker 1: Bowl against Carolina and Carolina ultimately ties the game and
- 32:55Speaker 1: then the kicker kicks the ball out of bounce and
- 32:57Speaker 1: sets up the game winning field goal. For like, did
- 33:00Speaker 1: Brady make plays to set up that field goal? Absolutely?
- 33:03Speaker 1: He was balls. He made the throw to Troy Brown
- 33:05Speaker 1: to get him, you know, you know, way down there,
- 33:08Speaker 1: all of that stuff, you know, Brady, But if you
- 33:12Speaker 1: start from your own twenty as opposed to the forty.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Maybe you don't get in field goal range, maybe you
- 33:16Speaker 1: throw the pick in overtime. Yeah, you know, like some
- 33:18Speaker 1: of that is just greatness, and some of it is
- 33:22Speaker 1: also good for like I look at now like Tampa Bay,
- 33:25Speaker 1: when when Brady went to Tampa Bay, the NFC South
- 33:29Speaker 1: was a really solid division with with Drew Brees and
- 33:32Speaker 1: Matt Ryan. Now it's like the worst division in football.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Brady hasn't done anything, and like in two years, it's
- 33:38Speaker 1: like one of the worst divisions in football. Yeah, I
- 33:41Speaker 1: mean even the conference goal almost the entirety of his
- 33:44Speaker 1: time in the ANFC East, it was the worst division
- 33:46Speaker 1: in football. Yeah, yeah, I just I think back to
- 33:49Speaker 1: the Peyton Manning in five and oh six both, you
- 33:52Speaker 1: know both times in oh six, you know the O
- 33:54Speaker 1: seven team needed everything they could to come back against
- 33:58Speaker 1: that team. The Oh nine, the fourth and two game.
- 34:01Speaker 1: You know things change a little bit in ten. Well,
- 34:03Speaker 1: just like don't think about it, yeah right, because you
- 34:07Speaker 1: know that Brady has the upper hand on Manning head
- 34:09Speaker 1: to head, you know that? Is that true in the playoffs? No,
- 34:14Speaker 1: it's about even, right, I mean, you got them right.
- 34:15Speaker 1: The Mannings three and two. Yeah. Yeah, you know, so,
- 34:18Speaker 1: like I think there's this perception because the first impression
- 34:22Speaker 1: that we saw was Manning sort of succumbing to the
- 34:25Speaker 1: elements here in oh three and oh four and not
- 34:28Speaker 1: playing well in the Patriots coming away with resounding wins.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Then the next three times they played in the playoffs,
- 34:35Speaker 1: Maning one. Yeah, and it makes you wonder in all
- 34:38Speaker 1: three of those times, Weather wasn't a factor. Yeah, and
- 34:41Speaker 1: in all of them, I mean maybe I think, I
- 34:43Speaker 1: mean it kind of came down to where they played, right, Like,
- 34:46Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's kind of what it was. One
- 34:47Speaker 1: of the biggest plays in the First Dynasty's history that
- 34:50Speaker 1: no one ever talks about is the goal line stand
- 34:53Speaker 1: play in Indian the O three regular season. If the
- 34:56Speaker 1: Colts score and win that game, the playoff game later
- 35:00Speaker 1: that year is played in Indian, not Fox Borrow. And
- 35:05Speaker 1: I think there's a whole different outcome. Yeah, I definitely
- 35:08Speaker 1: see Manning and Rogers in the same you know, just
- 35:10Speaker 1: family of and I know we're splitting hairs. We've talked
- 35:13Speaker 1: about this in the past where it's like you're talking
- 35:15Speaker 1: about Tom Brady, guy that went to Michigan, was drafted.
- 35:17Speaker 1: I mean, he's a he's an elite athlete anyway you
- 35:19Speaker 1: want to cut it. But still it just feels like
- 35:22Speaker 1: Rogers and Peyton Manning are just perfectly constructed in a
- 35:27Speaker 1: you know, in a factory to be a quarterback. You know,
- 35:29Speaker 1: like they just they have they have everything. I mean
- 35:31Speaker 1: Rogers certainly, the athleticism of just you know, from the
- 35:37Speaker 1: talent that he has, that's what separates him. Um. But
- 35:40Speaker 1: I think he's the least clutch of them all right
- 35:42Speaker 1: out of those three. And that's Brady light years ahead
- 35:45Speaker 1: of Manning in the clutch department. But there were still,
- 35:47Speaker 1: like I said, those moments in the fourth and two
- 35:50Speaker 1: game where just it's like, and that's how Brady felt
- 35:53Speaker 1: times where it's like, if you give him a chance,
- 35:54Speaker 1: it's inevitable that they're going to move the ball, especially
- 35:57Speaker 1: on those Patriots defenses when they got there in the middle. Um.
- 36:01Speaker 1: But I don't know, I never I always appreciated Peyton Manning.
- 36:03Speaker 1: I think he's hilarious and I never had like this hate.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I just respected him against a great opponent when I
- 36:09Speaker 1: criticized Breese, and I had no idea when I did this.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I think you were on that show on Tuesday that
- 36:14Speaker 1: that was like huge on Thursday, and it's obviously carrying over.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I didn't mean to suggest that I think that Drew
- 36:19Speaker 1: Brees is not good. I think Drew Brees is one
- 36:21Speaker 1: of the great quarterbacks that's played. Yeah, I just don't
- 36:26Speaker 1: think he belongs in the category with those three generation
- 36:28Speaker 1: of quarterbacks to like really come through the league at
- 36:31Speaker 1: the same time. So it's just it's just the crappy
- 36:33Speaker 1: lock of being with those guys. I don't remember being
- 36:35Speaker 1: really impressed with Drew Brees and oh two, yeah, when
- 36:38Speaker 1: the Patriots won the Super Bowl, and oh one, they
- 36:41Speaker 1: start off three and oh the following year in September,
- 36:43Speaker 1: it looks like they have a wagon. And then they
- 36:46Speaker 1: went to San Diego and Drew Brees like had a
- 36:49Speaker 1: really solid game as a young quarterback sort of finding
- 36:52Speaker 1: his way, and he was really you know, he didn't
- 36:54Speaker 1: light it up or anything, but it was it was
- 36:56Speaker 1: very brady like. He made all the plays when he
- 36:58Speaker 1: needed to make plays, and charges beat the Patriots and
- 37:01Speaker 1: that was sort of the start of a very average
- 37:04Speaker 1: season for New England. But I would I remember being
- 37:06Speaker 1: very impressed with a young Drew Brees in San Diego. Yeah,
- 37:09Speaker 1: there's plenty to be impressed with him. I I think
- 37:12Speaker 1: not to say that I would. I would consider it
- 37:14Speaker 1: a disappointment if mac Jones, you know, had a career
- 37:17Speaker 1: like Drew Brees. But what I worry about mac Jones
- 37:20Speaker 1: is just that he's going to have a similar problem
- 37:22Speaker 1: where he's a very good quarterback, but he's buried by
- 37:25Speaker 1: a number of outstanding, you know, transcendental kind of quarter
- 37:29Speaker 1: mac Jones turns out to have a career commensate with
- 37:32Speaker 1: Drew Brees, not only will I be one thousand percent wrong,
- 37:36Speaker 1: but I will be thrilled. Yeah, And that's probably why
- 37:37Speaker 1: it's a bad example. But I think it's just a
- 37:40Speaker 1: little bit applicable that, you know, he had it had
- 37:43Speaker 1: Brees been you know, if it had Brees been an
- 37:45Speaker 1: AFC quarterback in like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen,
- 37:49Speaker 1: like you know, in his prime, like he probably would
- 37:51Speaker 1: have been going head to head against the Patriots in
- 37:53Speaker 1: the AC Championship every year, you know. But it's just
- 37:55Speaker 1: the way that his career worked out where he was
- 37:57Speaker 1: in the NFC at the time. Matt Ryan was that,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you know, like they always had that was an opetitive
- 38:02Speaker 1: game at oh nine when when they went down in
- 38:04Speaker 1: New Wowans that was the infamous game that that was
- 38:07Speaker 1: Bill and Tom are caught on camera for that. I
- 38:09Speaker 1: just can't get these I just can't get these guys
- 38:11Speaker 1: to play the way we need to play. And I
- 38:13Speaker 1: mean that was just in the visceration Drew Brees just
- 38:15Speaker 1: absolutely I think five touchdowns in that game. It's funny
- 38:19Speaker 1: too because in retrospect, like I remember that being like
- 38:22Speaker 1: that was. That was a beatdown, but still didn't really
- 38:25Speaker 1: compare to the beatdowns of the last thing. You know.
- 38:27Speaker 1: It's I think they think the Saints punted. Yeah, a
- 38:33Speaker 1: good one from Speed. I think we can get we
- 38:35Speaker 1: can all get involved on this one before we got
- 38:37Speaker 1: go back to the phones here. But um, what's your
- 38:40Speaker 1: most embarrassing personal sports memory? For me, it was being
- 38:44Speaker 1: on the Skins team One day during a summer elementary
- 38:47Speaker 1: school basketball game, was overseen by some high school girls
- 38:50Speaker 1: subbing in for our normal coach. Being a little chubb store,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I was, they're giggles at my failure to waste wrap
- 38:55Speaker 1: the ball. Echo of my ears to this day. I know, Mike,
- 38:58Speaker 1: You're right, I do feel your pain. You must each
- 39:01Speaker 1: have an all time personal sports mortification tail to share.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I'm trying to, uh, I mean, I unfortunately have a
- 39:10Speaker 1: lot of them. We've talked about shirts and skins a lot,
- 39:12Speaker 1: which is just, you know, terrible for young, chubby, middle
- 39:15Speaker 1: school esque boys. I saw, I'm with you, Spiel. I
- 39:17Speaker 1: didn't like shirts and skins, but for not that same reason.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I was like, my arms are like pipe cleaners. I
- 39:23Speaker 1: didn't like that. See, I never would have thought skinny
- 39:26Speaker 1: arms that was. That was like, oh I had I
- 39:28Speaker 1: have no shoulders and I had skinny arms. I didn't
- 39:30Speaker 1: didn't like what my shirt was off. It was flabby.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I think one that was kind of embarrassing for me,
- 39:35Speaker 1: and it's not really in the same universe. And I've
- 39:37Speaker 1: told Paul this one before. We were playing Babson and
- 39:40Speaker 1: hockey my junior year and I made a play at
- 39:43Speaker 1: center ice swiped at the puck and my stick just
- 39:46Speaker 1: kind of broken half and the blade like it was
- 39:49Speaker 1: one of those aluminums that you used to you know,
- 39:51Speaker 1: have to put the blade in, and the blade just
- 39:53Speaker 1: went up in the air and it came down and
- 39:56Speaker 1: just hit my defensive partner right in the head and
- 40:00Speaker 1: I lost my folks. I just started laughing kind of,
- 40:02Speaker 1: and then they went down and scored on us, and
- 40:04Speaker 1: then I didn't play the rest of the game. I
- 40:08Speaker 1: was I was just so mad at myself. But it
- 40:10Speaker 1: was like one of those random things where I was
- 40:12Speaker 1: just the blade is like like everyone in the place
- 40:14Speaker 1: is watching it, like where's it going? Just clocks my
- 40:17Speaker 1: partner right in the head. That was kind of embarrassing.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Not quite the same, though, you know, any old own goals,
- 40:24Speaker 1: no no one goals that I at least remember that
- 40:26Speaker 1: were mortifying enough. I don't think so, though, though I
- 40:29Speaker 1: did play defense and probably was a candidate for that.
- 40:31Speaker 1: The worst things I can think of is I did
- 40:34Speaker 1: hurdling and track the four hundred hurdles and I ate
- 40:39Speaker 1: poop once and tripped right over. That was embarrassing because
- 40:42Speaker 1: I knew a lot of my friends were at my meat.
- 40:45Speaker 1: One time during a soccer game, I was so dehydrated
- 40:48Speaker 1: it was bad. I was like at the beach the
- 40:50Speaker 1: day before and I went to do a throwing and
- 40:52Speaker 1: both of my calfs cramped up mid throwing. The ball
- 40:55Speaker 1: like went straight up in the air and I just
- 40:57Speaker 1: like fell in collapse, and no one knew it was
- 40:59Speaker 1: wrong with me, and it was just I had two
- 41:02Speaker 1: calf craps at the same time. Were you one of
- 41:04Speaker 1: those girls that does that, like flip throwing? I was
- 41:06Speaker 1: always I was always enamored with, Like I'm like, what
- 41:09Speaker 1: did that girl just do a flip? Like? How is
- 41:10Speaker 1: that legal? Everything? You know what I'm talking about. I
- 41:13Speaker 1: spent probably like three weeks one summer. One of my
- 41:17Speaker 1: best friends since like first grade was an elite gymnast.
- 41:20Speaker 1: She went on to be on a Celtics cheerleader on
- 41:23Speaker 1: the Green team. So one day, during like a football
- 41:26Speaker 1: game that was going on, her and I sat there
- 41:28Speaker 1: and I made her go through that front hand spring
- 41:31Speaker 1: thrown with me and I sprained my wrist, but I
- 41:34Speaker 1: almost had it. Almost doesn't count. I could do it
- 41:38Speaker 1: without the ball, but it was the picking the ball
- 41:42Speaker 1: up on my way back up that I could never
- 41:44Speaker 1: quite get. Yeah, a couple of girls that could do it.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I was crazy. Watch let's go to the phones. I
- 41:49Speaker 1: believe this is William. Okay, that gives me time. I'm
- 41:52Speaker 1: gonna hardy this for a second and and we're out.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Sorry William, Sorry we missed you on that one. Sea Babe.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Ruth baseball game. So I think I was eighteen, and
- 42:00Speaker 1: I'm playing left field and we're winning and last inning
- 42:06Speaker 1: two outs and a lefty hits like a high fly
- 42:09Speaker 1: ball to me. So the ball's kind of coming at
- 42:11Speaker 1: a funny angle off a left handed bat to left field,
- 42:14Speaker 1: and I thought it was like a routine flyball right
- 42:16Speaker 1: to me. And I'm sitting there camping and I can
- 42:19Speaker 1: still remember one of my very best friends played center
- 42:21Speaker 1: field and he's going pip back, back back, and I'm like,
- 42:27Speaker 1: what are you talking about. It's like right to me,
- 42:29Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, it starts coming down and
- 42:30Speaker 1: I realize I'm probably five to ten feet too shallow,
- 42:35Speaker 1: and now it's kind of too late to turn and
- 42:37Speaker 1: run back like you're supposed to. So I just start
- 42:39Speaker 1: backpedaling and my spike caught my stirrup, put a huge
- 42:45Speaker 1: hole in the back of my sanitary sock, and I
- 42:47Speaker 1: just went ass over tea kettle, falling back. As I'm
- 42:50Speaker 1: trying to reach back, it goes off the top of
- 42:52Speaker 1: my glove, one runs, goes two runs goal as Everett loses.
- 42:56Speaker 1: I thought you would have done the I I lost
- 42:58Speaker 1: it in the sun. I wish I wish it was
- 43:02Speaker 1: easily into you a point, Alex. There were like a
- 43:05Speaker 1: lot of girls there. Yeah, that's the thing. And I
- 43:07Speaker 1: was so in bed, Like when I went back in
- 43:11Speaker 1: to the stands, I was so embarrassed. I just wanted
- 43:14Speaker 1: to hide. Right. So now we're losing by one, and
- 43:17Speaker 1: don't you know, we get like bases loaded one out
- 43:19Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh, they're gonna bail me out. They're
- 43:22Speaker 1: gonna bail me out here. We didn't. I actually just
- 43:25Speaker 1: thought of one. But I wasn't playing the game. I
- 43:28Speaker 1: was covering the Hoopaul Classic at the basketball or it
- 43:31Speaker 1: was at Springfield College. Are you guys familiar. So this
- 43:34Speaker 1: year in particular, it was like three years ago Brownie
- 43:37Speaker 1: James happened to be there, so Lebron came to Springfield.
- 43:42Speaker 1: So I was tasked, working for mass Live at the time,
- 43:45Speaker 1: with getting a photo of Lebron James when he walked
- 43:48Speaker 1: in quickly like uploading it, posting Lebron James spotted at
- 43:53Speaker 1: Hoopaul Classic. Whatever. So I just had to get that
- 43:55Speaker 1: picture taken, uploaded and put into the story as quick
- 43:58Speaker 1: as possible. And of course, right when Lebron walks in,
- 44:02Speaker 1: an arrant basketball from the AAU game comes flying at me.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I have a Venti ice coffee right next to my keyboard.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Sideline smashes my coffee. It goes all over me and
- 44:13Speaker 1: explodes as I'm taking the picture. Okay, so then I'm
- 44:17Speaker 1: just like, you know what, that sucks, but game face on.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Gott to just do my job, get this story. I'm
- 44:22Speaker 1: filled with coffee. But people from the stands are like,
- 44:25Speaker 1: oh my god, honey, like giving me like paper and
- 44:27Speaker 1: trying to like help me, and I'm like, you guys
- 44:29Speaker 1: need to get out of my way. I need to
- 44:30Speaker 1: get this done, like thank you, but stop. Like but
- 44:33Speaker 1: it was so embarrassing because I was just sitting there
- 44:35Speaker 1: covered in coffee and you didn't yell anything racist at
- 44:38Speaker 1: Lebron while you were while you were there, that whole thing. Yeah,
- 44:42Speaker 1: what's his deal? Oh god, I don't know. I don't know.
- 44:46Speaker 1: It's a good question here from Joel. I like it.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I don't remember giving permission for a party Joel. Really
- 44:54Speaker 1: simple question though, and I think and he only asked,
- 44:56Speaker 1: you know, what's the best way for the Patriots opponents
- 44:58Speaker 1: to attack the offense? I mean, I'd love to talk
- 45:00Speaker 1: about to how to how to attack the defense. But
- 45:05Speaker 1: you know, what do you think, Paul, what do you
- 45:06Speaker 1: think that? What would you do? He said? I mean,
- 45:07Speaker 1: obviously it's hard to tell exactly what you're gonna be
- 45:09Speaker 1: dealing with right now at this point. I would just
- 45:11Speaker 1: make them do something different, and I would do what
- 45:13Speaker 1: teams did for the most part in the second half
- 45:15Speaker 1: of last year, and I would get a lot of
- 45:17Speaker 1: bodies around the line of scrimmage. I would make sure
- 45:20Speaker 1: you stop the run first and foremost, and then make
- 45:23Speaker 1: them beat you over the top. Yeah, make them do
- 45:25Speaker 1: something that they didn't show the ability to do on
- 45:27Speaker 1: a consistent basis last year. And I think that's what
- 45:29Speaker 1: the Patriots offense is planning on, is to make a
- 45:33Speaker 1: concerted effort to throw the ball downfield more successfully than
- 45:37Speaker 1: they did last year. And the funny thing is is,
- 45:39Speaker 1: and talk about this a lot weird, how I mean,
- 45:42Speaker 1: I don't won't say the opposite is true for the defense.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Run the ball and throw the ball short and just
- 45:48Speaker 1: make them cover. You know, it's target these new linebackers,
- 45:50Speaker 1: make these guys, you know, cover. It'll be interesting to see,
- 45:54Speaker 1: of course, I mean, how what are they going to
- 45:56Speaker 1: do to play with it? They know everything we know.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I would just say, throw the ball, like I know
- 45:59Speaker 1: that they have a hard time stopping the run, but
- 46:01Speaker 1: I think you can throw the ball all over them.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And I think the teams that threw the ball well
- 46:05Speaker 1: last year had all kinds of success against the Patriots.
- 46:09Speaker 1: We've got a recommendation here from Alexander alex and Puckett
- 46:13Speaker 1: and uh, he's saying one of the best spots to
- 46:15Speaker 1: get tacos in Central Falls, Rhode Island. It's called El
- 46:19Speaker 1: Paso and the Berria b I R R. I can
- 46:23Speaker 1: roll my ars a little bit, the most authent best
- 46:27Speaker 1: I have ever had. Um, that's a good one. Let's see. Uh,
- 46:31Speaker 1: we've got a question. Which side of the ball do
- 46:33Speaker 1: you think will be the achilles heel if the team
- 46:35Speaker 1: on a negative stuff? Uh, and we'll let the team down,
- 46:39Speaker 1: uh in crunch time. So who's gonna mess it all up?
- 46:44Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's equal parts. I know you
- 46:46Speaker 1: guys think it's defense. I think it'll be more disappointing
- 46:49Speaker 1: if it's If it's defense, I think that will be frustrating,
- 46:52Speaker 1: as if the offense actually does, you know, make some
- 46:54Speaker 1: strides and looks better and you know, it's it's the
- 46:57Speaker 1: couple plays at the end that that that they can't
- 46:59Speaker 1: quite make with the defense. Um, that would be a
- 47:01Speaker 1: little bit more frustrating. I think the passing defense. How
- 47:04Speaker 1: to the cornerbacks line up? You gotta lead, you gotta
- 47:06Speaker 1: put the game away. Can you shut down these passing
- 47:08Speaker 1: offenses and not let them get that last score? Uh?
- 47:11Speaker 1: In the final minutes, we got Eldrid ringing in. Let's
- 47:13Speaker 1: let's bring him right on. Hey Eldred, what's up? Hey fellos?
- 47:18Speaker 1: How y'all doing good? Trying? I'm sorry that I missed
- 47:23Speaker 1: Thursday show. I wanted to talk to friends that Fred,
- 47:26Speaker 1: you were wrong about the draft process when the Kiel
- 47:31Speaker 1: was drafted. That nobody doing the draft? Yes, I did
- 47:36Speaker 1: you know, Fred said nobody killed that draft pick. No,
- 47:40Speaker 1: remember when you said, Uh. One of the callers called
- 47:43Speaker 1: in said, I wish we had the draft was day?
- 47:45Speaker 1: But did you say that doing draft day? Oh? And
- 47:47Speaker 1: I couldn't get in because I was awesome. I was.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I would have called draft day. I mean that that
- 47:53Speaker 1: was and Uh, Paul, you told me, no, get a
- 47:56Speaker 1: man a chance, get a chance? I did. I wanted
- 47:59Speaker 1: to be fair before I killed him. I wanted to
- 48:01Speaker 1: see him. And then if you recall, I saw him
- 48:04Speaker 1: that spring and I was like, I don't like what
- 48:06Speaker 1: I see. Yeah, I liked what I saw walking onto
- 48:09Speaker 1: the field. That was like, that's my mine to kill him.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Harry Man was like, that pick would I don't. I
- 48:13Speaker 1: don't want to say universally panned, but that that was
- 48:16Speaker 1: a widely panned pick at the time. Eldred's not wrong.
- 48:20Speaker 1: A lot of people, a lot of people didn't like
- 48:21Speaker 1: that pick when they made you remember I said me
- 48:25Speaker 1: and Beka, we wanted DK Metcalf, And I'm like, you know,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I think if if Brady hate him, he'd probably still
- 48:31Speaker 1: be here or or McLaren, either one of those. Brady
- 48:34Speaker 1: probably still will be there or whatever. I think for
- 48:36Speaker 1: another two years. You think they would have offered him
- 48:38Speaker 1: more money, more money, but like I said, I would
- 48:43Speaker 1: roll Tom Brady t roll what I did with a wheelchair. Yeah,
- 48:45Speaker 1: I know, but they would have be the Pagriets offered
- 48:47Speaker 1: him more money, he'd still be here Like that. I mean,
- 48:50Speaker 1: that's the question that no one knows the answer to.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Like if if DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel was the
- 48:57Speaker 1: guy they picked instead of Harry. Yeah, that makes him
- 49:01Speaker 1: more successful in twenty nineteen throwing the ball. But does
- 49:05Speaker 1: that mean that they would have given him more money?
- 49:08Speaker 1: I don't know about that, when neither do things. I
- 49:10Speaker 1: don't think Bill would have and I don't either. I
- 49:13Speaker 1: think gone he would have paid the routive either. After
- 49:16Speaker 1: three years, Yeah, I think she brought that up about
- 49:19Speaker 1: A J. Brown Man. Still he would he still be here,
- 49:21Speaker 1: and I think there's a chance that he wouldn't be.
- 49:23Speaker 1: And that's a good point too, because I think not
- 49:26Speaker 1: necessarily the disdain put it pretty visibly, did not like
- 49:31Speaker 1: Nickel Harry very Once you're out, Once you're out, you're out.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Good news, O, good news. But but there'stle thing I
- 49:39Speaker 1: called for, you know, book called up. But Pop, I
- 49:42Speaker 1: think you ow me a lunch. What do I owe
- 49:44Speaker 1: you a launch for? Because when we've said about this
- 49:47Speaker 1: doing the draft class, and then I said, and I
- 49:50Speaker 1: told you everybody draft before he manth a who lot
- 49:53Speaker 1: better than McKiel. I said that Nick que you'd be
- 49:55Speaker 1: ready to fredom and you kept sing, oh, and I
- 49:58Speaker 1: was ready. I mean, you're right about that. I like,
- 50:01Speaker 1: I'm telling you I watched him, and that I watched
- 50:03Speaker 1: him that spring and I just said, this guy can't
- 50:05Speaker 1: get open and I didn't like anything about him, but yeah,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you're right. On draft day I said, give him a chance.
- 50:13Speaker 1: He's got measurables. Let's see if he can play, and
- 50:15Speaker 1: ultimately he couldn't. I don't think he worked really hard either,
- 50:18Speaker 1: to be honest with you, but that's just me. Hi,
- 50:22Speaker 1: the boss Man's back. The nightmares over. Well, you have
- 50:25Speaker 1: a good one about later. Thanks Biggie. Thanks so I
- 50:29Speaker 1: think I owe Biggie lunch. I don't know why, but
- 50:34Speaker 1: some bet that we made. Yeah, and if he can
- 50:36Speaker 1: produce the artist? Hi everybody, Hi Fred? What did I miss?
- 50:40Speaker 1: H We talked a little bit about patting ourselves in
- 50:42Speaker 1: the back of being the first. Did you play it?
- 50:45Speaker 1: I no, I don't think. I think I think Teas
- 50:47Speaker 1: might have it. Now play it? Go ahead. We're going
- 50:52Speaker 1: down memory lane here and given um Mark's uh lineage,
- 50:57Speaker 1: do you did you know that? Basically? I think one
- 51:00Speaker 1: of the first podcasts was launched by the New England
- 51:02Speaker 1: Patriots in August of two thousand. They did a show
- 51:06Speaker 1: called PFW in Progress and it was a live show
- 51:09Speaker 1: that was recorded and you could get it on demand.
- 51:12Speaker 1: At Patriots dot com. So I don't know if that
- 51:15Speaker 1: technically counts as a podcast, but I think that it
- 51:18Speaker 1: was one of the first, you know, or advise for
- 51:23Speaker 1: some space in the beginning of this of this form.
- 51:30Speaker 1: I think it interestingly that's the year. That's the year
- 51:33Speaker 1: Tom Brady was drafted to everyone sort of credits him
- 51:36Speaker 1: for turning the fortunes of the Patriots around after years
- 51:39Speaker 1: of an aptitude. But maybe it was the podcast. So
- 51:43Speaker 1: so just you know, just to I don't know if
- 51:45Speaker 1: you guys talk about but those two people, John Dickerson
- 51:48Speaker 1: is these faced the nation's CBS, you know, and the
- 51:51Speaker 1: other guys, Mark Leeviovitch who has like a number one
- 51:55Speaker 1: bestseller on New York Times right now. And they're not
- 51:57Speaker 1: sports guys. These are news guys, you know. And oh
- 52:02Speaker 1: really I just thought it was until no, but I
- 52:04Speaker 1: thought it was just amazing that they would even know that. Well,
- 52:07Speaker 1: Alex went right over to uh to Wicked Wikipedia and
- 52:11Speaker 1: they have it there too. They mentioned it. It's like
- 52:13Speaker 1: the first blurb, yeah, the history of podcasting. Yeah, you
- 52:16Speaker 1: scroll down and the first thing is about the RSS
- 52:19Speaker 1: connection and that technology. The second thing is the first
- 52:22Speaker 1: on demand radio show in the first podcast and where
- 52:26Speaker 1: the first I think I put that up there a
- 52:30Speaker 1: curt Well to be honest, the first you know, um
- 52:35Speaker 1: and I got this from Wikipedia too, so I don't know, uh,
- 52:38Speaker 1: but the first like IP type of show like that
- 52:42Speaker 1: was like this Vinyl underground show. But they've since stopped,
- 52:46Speaker 1: so I know for a fact we're the longest continuous one.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Now we changed from PFW Progress to Pictures on Filtered,
- 52:53Speaker 1: but it's still the same show, you know, So we're
- 52:55Speaker 1: the longest continuous I know that for a fact. I
- 52:59Speaker 1: have a long question. I've always wondered, what was like
- 53:02Speaker 1: the thing behind PFW in Progress. Was that like naming
- 53:05Speaker 1: it that, like this is kind of a show we
- 53:07Speaker 1: do while we're putting the together. Know. The idea was,
- 53:11Speaker 1: you know, we were the newspaper, so but we're gonna
- 53:15Speaker 1: do this radio show while we're doing the newspaper. So
- 53:17Speaker 1: while we're doing stuff, we're gonna have this show. So
- 53:20Speaker 1: it was like Pages Football Weekly, which is the newspaper
- 53:23Speaker 1: in progress. And it started it was like once a
- 53:25Speaker 1: week for one hour. Yeah, then we started going twice
- 53:28Speaker 1: a week, then we went two hours, then we went
- 53:30Speaker 1: three times a week. In the during the season, so
- 53:32Speaker 1: it was like we're expanding, we're taking time off to
- 53:34Speaker 1: do this show, so we're in progress. It doesn't even
- 53:37Speaker 1: work that I didn't account is working, right, But at
- 53:40Speaker 1: the time it was like another thing that we had
- 53:43Speaker 1: to do. Now, obviously we don't do the newspaper anymore,
- 53:45Speaker 1: but at the time it was like, you know, we
- 53:47Speaker 1: would sort of spitball ideas, what we what we're going
- 53:50Speaker 1: to work on this week. That was sort of the
- 53:51Speaker 1: premise of why we started it was it's the newspaper
- 53:54Speaker 1: in progress, and it was like our little meetings, so
- 53:57Speaker 1: the idea, like we talk about what we're doing so
- 54:00Speaker 1: people get it behind the scenes, look at our planning
- 54:02Speaker 1: and stuff like that. It just kept going, like I
- 54:04Speaker 1: still like that name. Yeah, to me, it rolls off
- 54:07Speaker 1: the time. I think I progress. Yeah, I think it's
- 54:09Speaker 1: a much better name. And remember I fought you on it.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Actually you just keep him, just keep it, Paul. You
- 54:14Speaker 1: must have been so what do you think You must
- 54:15Speaker 1: have enjoyed it like it Yeah, but that must have
- 54:20Speaker 1: been fun for you. I mean, I know you got
- 54:22Speaker 1: like to do this right when it started, and all
- 54:24Speaker 1: of a sudden, the first day we did it at
- 54:26Speaker 1: like once a week for an hour. You you could
- 54:27Speaker 1: do twelve hours a week and it was great. And
- 54:29Speaker 1: Brian and Brian and I used to go at it
- 54:32Speaker 1: like and dogs. It was great. It was great. So
- 54:35Speaker 1: you also started fighting on the radio as well. Oh
- 54:38Speaker 1: I've been fighting. I mean I think Paul Parillo wait
- 54:41Speaker 1: a minute now, I think I think this also might
- 54:44Speaker 1: be another first. Oh, I was the first F bomb.
- 54:46Speaker 1: I think Paul might have question thrown out. The first
- 54:48Speaker 1: F bomb on IP radio is no question. And I
- 54:51Speaker 1: wish that the old soundboard that we had has since fried,
- 54:55Speaker 1: and a lot of great stuff that was on it
- 54:57Speaker 1: was dropped. But Gary Goodecki, who was our producer at
- 55:00Speaker 1: the time, put together, you know, like the great moments
- 55:02Speaker 1: and that Matt does. He put together a great recap
- 55:06Speaker 1: of the fight. And it's like Brian and I going
- 55:09Speaker 1: back and forth, and we start off so calm, and
- 55:11Speaker 1: we're making points and he's making a point and I'm
- 55:13Speaker 1: going back, we're countering, and all of a sudden, I'm
- 55:16Speaker 1: like slamming the table and I'm like, and I so
- 55:20Speaker 1: can't wait till a week sixteen. And you know, the
- 55:25Speaker 1: worst part of it, The whole thing was I was wrong,
- 55:29Speaker 1: but you know they won the Super Bowl. Brian has
- 55:32Speaker 1: a way of arguing that really gets under your skin.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Oh I've heard that brought up a lot. Yeah, Brian
- 55:36Speaker 1: has a way of belittling every opinion that's not his,
- 55:41Speaker 1: kind of like a lot of other people on that
- 55:43Speaker 1: side of you. But I believe that one it was
- 55:47Speaker 1: Brian and Andy like that must have been a combustible cold.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Oh yes, they didn't really. Were they ever together that much? Yeah,
- 55:53Speaker 1: the three of us were together a lot. Andy, No,
- 55:56Speaker 1: that'd be four of us. No, But I mean, yeah,
- 55:59Speaker 1: that a so so. Brian Ryan was the editor, I
- 56:03Speaker 1: was the assistant, and Andy was the staff writer at
- 56:05Speaker 1: that time. Okay, I just I don't remember a lot
- 56:09Speaker 1: of shows with Andy and Brian. Why what am I
- 56:12Speaker 1: missing here? Because I always remember Brian sitting right there
- 56:15Speaker 1: before Andy, right where Deuce is sitting right now. Yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 1: I don't think Brian did a tremendous amount of shows here. Okay,
- 56:23Speaker 1: it was probably only like a year or two that
- 56:25Speaker 1: he was I just remember that one time I was
- 56:27Speaker 1: talking about an offensive lineman. He had the media guide
- 56:29Speaker 1: and he was left guard, left guard, left, left guard left.
- 56:31Speaker 1: That was the prototypical and that was Fred, not me. Yeah,
- 56:34Speaker 1: I thought Fred was going to kill him that day.
- 56:36Speaker 1: But Fred has gotten to that point with Andy millions
- 56:38Speaker 1: of no, but he's he was right. But the way
- 56:40Speaker 1: he did it, you know, like I was talking about
- 56:42Speaker 1: somebody playing the tone issue like a different position, and
- 56:45Speaker 1: I said, I said, I said, I figured who the
- 56:47Speaker 1: player was. I said, he's played other positions, and I said,
- 56:51Speaker 1: I think he's played guard and Brian just got the
- 56:53Speaker 1: meeting game left guard, right left guard, left guard, left guard,
- 56:56Speaker 1: left guard, every game he played guard. There was thinking
- 56:59Speaker 1: there was. It was like the whole position versatility thing
- 57:02Speaker 1: that drives me crazy when the guy only plays one spot.
- 57:05Speaker 1: That was what it was. Or Fred was like doing
- 57:06Speaker 1: one of those Like Fred wasn't like being overly specific,
- 57:09Speaker 1: and Brian just like he attacked like a pit. Oh yeah,
- 57:12Speaker 1: because he had his media guy in front of him
- 57:14Speaker 1: and he's you know, bad as if that's you know,
- 57:17Speaker 1: always accurate. Oh that took a turn. So what else
- 57:23Speaker 1: any anything else but that? That's that clip is great.
- 57:26Speaker 1: I mean, like again, John Dickerson, We've always known it,
- 57:30Speaker 1: but now we have proof he's faced the nation. It's
- 57:32Speaker 1: like that he must be a Patriots fan though, right,
- 57:34Speaker 1: why would he answering everybody question? It's just how did
- 57:36Speaker 1: they get on? Unless he just went on wicked because
- 57:38Speaker 1: he didn't seem sure he probably I mean that would yeah,
- 57:42Speaker 1: that would be unfortunate pulling the string. Yeah, scene Uh no,
- 57:46Speaker 1: I would just you know, getting excited for cam talk
- 57:49Speaker 1: a little bit about pup and and and you know,
- 57:51Speaker 1: potential injury guys that you're looking forward to seeing. Yeah
- 57:54Speaker 1: what uh, you know some some fairly mundane uh you know, observation,
- 57:59Speaker 1: but record project predictions of you know, what's the ceiling.
- 58:03Speaker 1: You know, we're just saying, you know, the height of
- 58:05Speaker 1: the ceiling right now is like eleven wins. I don't
- 58:06Speaker 1: think there's anybody, anybody really, even the most positive kind
- 58:10Speaker 1: of Patriots people, projecting more than that. I don't know
- 58:12Speaker 1: how you get there. But yeah, it's uh, what else
- 58:14Speaker 1: are we talking about? Yeah, I mean, you know, like
- 58:16Speaker 1: I always try to see through the through rose colored glasses,
- 58:19Speaker 1: and I think where my glasses started losing the rose
- 58:23Speaker 1: color was with injuries. You know, like I would always
- 58:26Speaker 1: be like I would be hurt, and I'd be like
- 58:28Speaker 1: I'd always be optimistic. Oh, he'll be back in two
- 58:30Speaker 1: weeks or he'll be and it and I just get,
- 58:34Speaker 1: you know, getting disappointed over and over again, where I realize,
- 58:38Speaker 1: you know, these things take longer than I hope that
- 58:41Speaker 1: Frank came in my office thing he goes, could could
- 58:44Speaker 1: you pitch with a broken pinky? Said absolutely not. I
- 58:47Speaker 1: still think you can. I said, that would kill um.
- 58:50Speaker 1: But I think overall, like you know, over twenty eight
- 58:53Speaker 1: years of being here, like I think, I have a
- 58:57Speaker 1: pretty good sense of things, and like you know, we've
- 59:00Speaker 1: seen good teams in the beginning of season who end
- 59:03Speaker 1: up being good, and this isn't one of them. Right now.
- 59:06Speaker 1: You know, this would be a major surprise that one. No,
- 59:11Speaker 1: I'm not changing my tune. I know this would be
- 59:13Speaker 1: a major surprise, a good one if they ended up
- 59:16Speaker 1: winning eleven games or more. I think everybody would be
- 59:19Speaker 1: really happy in surprise. But I don't see it like
- 59:23Speaker 1: you know, Like I think. What I'm trying to say
- 59:26Speaker 1: is you get indications of things, and we're not getting
- 59:29Speaker 1: that right now. Yeah, we're not getting those indications. And
- 59:32Speaker 1: one of the things that you know, I don't think
- 59:34Speaker 1: the schedule, like the individual teams of the schedule, I
- 59:37Speaker 1: don't think it's overly daunting. I think it's the middle
- 59:39Speaker 1: of the road schedule. But I do think the way
- 59:40Speaker 1: it's set up, there are some pockets that are going
- 59:43Speaker 1: to make life difficult. And I even look at the
- 59:45Speaker 1: very beginning, I I you know, somewhere in the back
- 59:49Speaker 1: of my mind, I still think Bill is that guy, right,
- 59:52Speaker 1: he can all of a sudden, they're gonna you know,
- 59:54Speaker 1: we just kind of touched on it with the offense, right, Mike,
- 59:58Speaker 1: Maybe they're gonna do some things that are different. May
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: they're gonna push it downfield. So I could see them
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: maybe surprising offensively coming out of the gates and maybe
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: being a little better, more high power than a lot
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: of people think. And maybe you can steal some wins
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: that way. But then you look and you're like at
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Miami at Pittsburgh home against Baltimore at Green Bay, Like,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: even if that happens, is that enough to win and
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: more than two of those games, or maybe even more
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: than one. And here's the other thing. You know, we
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: have to as Patriots fans, we have to change the
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: way we look at the schedule because in the past,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: you look at the schedule, go this is you know,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: relatively easy schedule because we were really good, right you know,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: now you might be right, like overall the teams may
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: not all be you know, world beaters, but this is
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: this is another Patriots team. Every one of these games
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: are going to be dark. And when I say it's
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: it's middle of the road, I'm just going strictly by numbers. Yeah,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: like yeah, right, they're they're they're combined opponent records below
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: five hundred, But that doesn't mean anything. But for a
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: middle of the road team, which the Patriots are, it's
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: gonna be tough. You're no longer the Patriots with Tom Brady,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: and you know where you can look at the schedule
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: and go win when when when when maybe a lost
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: win when you know you can't do that anymore. I
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: just think there's as many questions going into this season
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: as you probably have had in the last twenty years.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: And all those times that you had those questions, you
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: knew you had Tom Brady. So even if you had
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: a terrible defense twenty ten, twenty eleven, you know you're
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: still gonna get an MVP quality season out of that
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: guy and maybe end up in the super Bowl. The
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: league's better now you know that you just well and
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: and you're right, it's it was mostly Brady, but it
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: was even core defensive players. You always had, like those
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: core players from year to year that you knew what
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: you were getting on defense. And that's you know where
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: I'm worried this year. I don't see that, you know,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: like Barmore is a core player. He's in his second year.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: You know, matt Judon needs to be a core player.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: He had a good first half of the year last year,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: and then there's a lot of questions so much as
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: colored by that second half of the season, especially with
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: jud because Eddie finished better or just at least kind
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: of kept the pace that he had. You'd be all right, well,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: we got one piece that we know we can count on.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: You know. I think now even people are like, what
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: do we really have with Matthew Judo? You know, is
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: he ready to step up and lead that kind of
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: unit and be a productive player every every game we've
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: won a week eighteen, it's it's and you mentioned Barmore.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I think that's what I'm kind of holding my breath
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: a little bit going into the season, being like guys
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: have to step up, like like there needs to be
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: some new faces out there being like, who this guy's
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: really shown up And that's just not something you've seen
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: other than maybe Mac and Barmore a little bit last year.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Just not something you've seen a lot. I mean, if
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: it's Jes Barmour, teams aren't gonna let him ruin the game.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: They're gonna focus on him and they're gonna make it
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: tough on him. He needs help. Yeah, So I did
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: a little TV last week, cheap plug. It's already done,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: so it's not really a plug. Last Friday, while I
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: was with NBC Sports Boston and our buddy Phil Perry,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: he is really really high on vermondre Stevenson. Great. You know,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: he thinks that that's a guy that could really emerge
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: as a dangerous Well now you're talking offense, and I'm I'm,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: like I said, I'm bullish on the offense. I think
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: we've got a lot to work with there. I do.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: But again, I'd like to ask Phil that question that
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: we that I ask of vermonder season. Is the backfield
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: set up in a way that one player can have
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: enough success to truly make a huge difference on the team,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: or is no matter how good he is, he's only
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: going to have maybe two or three games where he
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: really makes an impact and otherwise it wasn't really his game.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Harris kind of had a good game, you know, Like
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I just I wonder how they could ever get to
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: a point where every week you're like big game for vermondr. Stevens,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: and it feels like it's going to be by committee
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: and each week somebody else is going to kind of
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: step up. And and I'm not saying I like this,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: like I would rather have like an awesome one running
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: back that I know you and he gets hurt, But
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: think about think about the best running backs in the league. Okay,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: and there's only probably one or two. You know, Um,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: you know McCaffrey when he's healthy. What's his face over
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: in the Titans, Henry, Yeah, Henry. There's not a lot
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: of running backs that can are that have that type
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: of influence. But you know, even those guys, but even
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: those guys, did you even see Steams and making the
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: impact that that Taylor or or Taylor had a better
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: year than anybody? Yeah he did, but they didn't make
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: the playoffs. No, but not because of him. No, But
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. They had a terrible quarterback. And
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: if you have a terrible quarterback, you're not gonna make
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: the playoffs. Right, So Romandre Stevenson has a great year. Great,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: but there's a lot of other things that have to
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: happen for this team to why I'm not big on
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: running backs, Yeah, because they can't do it. You know,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: if you have a really good quarterback, you know, with
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: very few exceptions, you're probably going to have a pretty
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: successful It's it's about Mac. It's it starts with Mac.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: You know, he's got to make that year to jump
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: and that's what you know, it was gonna make the
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: offense good and then then then the defense is big questions.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: You just want to get to the point where the
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: defense can't let you down, like you at least we
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: had a chance at the end, you know, like at
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: least to get that opportunity, Like you'll take some thirty
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: four to twenty eight losses, right, you know. I just
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: like remember, like there was that age old question like
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: would you rather be you know, up by a point
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: with two minutes to go or down by two points
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: with two minutes to go? And with Brady, you'd want
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: to be down every time? Every time I want I'd
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: want to be down even now, Yeah, because because you
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: knew you were going to get into field goal position
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: at worse, you know, and so that's where you wanted
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: this offense to get to. I used to make the argument,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: would you rather be up to and the other team
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: has the ball, or down four and you have the ball?
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: That's even tougher. I would take the ball with with
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Brady ever period. But the other team's going to get
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: a field goal. I can't rely on them missing it
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: right right right, Like I'd rather have the ball and
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: have a chance to go down score and win. Yeah
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: every time. I don't care who my quarterback is. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: So what are we doing? Random guys just coming it's Matt. No,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: I know it's not a random guy. It's no sucks.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Uh but yeah. I mean we're also kind of discussing
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: just how much can you really take from training camp,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Like how much actually really translates. I mean, I think
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: Mac last year you had a pretty good all right,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: he looks good bar more. I think when the one
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: on ones and that he looked like a handful. But
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: you know, trying to extrapolate schemes and who's gonna pop
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: and you know, it's like the UCH thing last year
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: where it's like we'll be able to do that you
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: know would be good. It's hard. It's hard when they're
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: getting pressure and nobody's blocking or you know, they're all
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: in you know, shirts and shells and you know. But
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: I'm still excited to get out there. And finally, could
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: you order anything? Get I can't. I'm on a diet.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: You're staying strong. I've started my diet. Okay, you didn't
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: have to just ignore my system? Yeah, but what's what's
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: their thing? Like, what's their philosophy? Well, no, the shakes
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: are snacks, but like I don't know what the philosophies.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: But you order food and you pay them and if
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: you and they say, if you do what we tell
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: you to do, you will lose weight, which every diet. Yeah,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: that's true of if you do what they tell you
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: to do. But can you maintain it? Right? Can you
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: maintain it? You know if you come off of it, like,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: are you able to maintain We'll see. My goal is
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: to lose thirty pounds in two months. You know, you
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: maybe put wear like a rubber shirt during the PPU
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: shows out like you out no time, No, just go
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: into the fitness center, do the treadmill walk for a
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: half hour on incline twelve speed three for thirty minutes
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: every day. Yeah, that's okay, that's quite an incline. But
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: you still have to eat time. But you still have
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: to eat right, right, You still have to eat right. Yeah,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: of course. Yeah, but that's my diet anyway, So I
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: don't know what the yeah. So I mean, if you're
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: already eating right, then great, any exercise is really going
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: to help you. But if you don't eat right, you're screwed. Yeah,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: in so many health foods are just like fake health
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: foods and pre prepared and processed. And that's why I'm
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: asking you these questions about your shakes. I think I
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: think shakes. Yeah, well, I think my thing is portions.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: You know, I don't always have to get the twenty
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: four rounds steak. I could get a twelve ounce steak,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: you know, just get the half rack of ribs. Yeah right, Paul,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: what all right, we'll take a break right now, and

- 1:21:30Speaker 1: it again and they're blown opportunity like nothing to do
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: with the other team, like forcing eighteen turnovers. It's the Celtics.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: That's what I was trying to tell you all these
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: years with the Patriots. When you would say the other
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: teams staken, I say, well, maybe the Patriots had something
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: to do with it, but now not. Now you have
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: that take. Wait a minute, and I'm glad you've come around.
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: Wait a minute, and I agree with you a take
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: on the Patriots. And I always have no in games
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: you and Andy and playoff sucks the Pats. You're you're
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: making two different arguments. The league does what happens at
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: the end of the The league does suck by and large,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: and teams give games away. But you can't tell me
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: they won six Super Bowls because the other team sucked. No,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: that's stupid. That's what you guys used to say. Never
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: once that I little super Bowl. The other team sucked.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: I would I would give credit to the other team
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: and the Patriots having beaten that team. You would take
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: away from the Patriots by diminishing the other team. I
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: would take away again and again when when they get
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: dominated by like the Cleveland Browns and Lewis because Cleveland
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: gives the ball away seventeen times. Like, that's different, right,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: because my Patriots had nothing to do it. But you
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: don't beat the the like the Steelers and the Colts
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: and the Rams, all because the other team sucks. Sorry,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: the other team doesn't suck. No, but they would say,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: teams come to me, that's what they just pooped themselves,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: but don't know what to do. It's all about the
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Celtics sucking, not the Golden State doing anything that I
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: agree with. And I also agree with the other way too.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: That's another great moment from all Right. That was a

- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Here Sante Samuel. That bitter old cornerback. I saw something
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: where he was like, it's all Brady, it was all Brady. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Then he talked about getting franchise too, which was pretty
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: funny where he was like, you don't even like me,
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: but Bill called him to tell him he was franchised. Yeah,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: he said, you don't even like me, which is accurate.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Oh man, that's although Bill Bill Like, I think Bill
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: had a little of that, you know, like if it
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: was up to me, Douce, like, I'd give you a raise,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: just my hands are tied, but you know, it's nothing
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: I can do, you know. And then he goes to
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: Fred and says, you know, I wouldn't give due a
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: race he's running. I think Bill has a little of
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: that right with the players, you know what I mean. Yeah,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: but it's like it's just sort of like you got
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: the players have to believe you're on their side. Yeah,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: and you gotta kind of play that game a little bit.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: It's weird to be a but I think Bill did
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: that a little bit with a sat Day. Samuel, You
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: remember the clip after the oh seven AFC Championship game,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Friends nodding his head, but I guarantee has no idea
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: what I'm talking about um. They beat the Chargers here
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: and went to the super Bowl, and he went up
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: to he had like a sat day in a hug
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: and he's like, you know you, we need to keep you.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: You need to say you know. And I'm thinking myself,
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: it's a fore gone conclusion. He's going like he's going
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: as soon as he can. But the night whether it's franchise, no,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: he's going as soon as he can. The night before
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: the super Bowl, he's walking around going, I'm gonna be
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna get paid. I'm gonna get paid. It's like, okay,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: just you know, you got a game to play tomorrow.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: It's kind of a big one he's thinking about afterwards.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: It's it's hard to drop the ball being the general
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: manager and the coach and you know, like saying that,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: pumping him up, knowing you know, we're gonna need this
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: guy to play well in a couple of weeks, but
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: also being the guy that's gonna say bye, you know
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: like that, Just I hear you're saying, it's just hard.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: It's a weird kind of to manage that. That's why
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: I don't I don't say that to Bill, like I'm
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: making fun of Bill. But I do think that that's
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: part of it. But like for a scientists like you
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: don't even like me, I kind of I probably agree
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: with him. I don't think he was ever showing much.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to speak out of school.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: I've heard comments, let's put it that way, what they
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: really thought of Asante, and they weren't overly flattering. He
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: doesn't really seem like they're kind of mold of a cornerback,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: you know. I mean he was it was too good,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: but but more in that, like I don't know, it
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: wasn't like thy Law like that. That one to me
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: was yeah, he wasn't thy Law. No, you're right, um,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: But that one to me was one that left a
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: lasting mark. They chased the cornerback for years after he left,
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: and it wasn't until to leave when they traded for
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: to Leab what twelve yep. Yeah, they had once stiff
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: after the next trying to replace him a weekly Sean Springs,
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: did you have a funny start to the show? I
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: don't know. Brett and Haliburton Ontario said that you did.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: I don't know. Probably subjective No, all right, question, he says,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: to guess if it's nine, ten or eleven wins. The
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: big question is can we stop the run even a
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: bit even or just enough, he says, I'm not confident
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: that we can, and if we can't, then play action,
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: et cetera will kill us. On top of that, the
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: schedule is tough. I'll say nine and eight best case
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: scenario for this year and no playoffs. I feel like
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: I'm evolving a bit, and maybe it's because I have
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: to do that. I'm not like as concerned about the
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: run defense. I just feel like those are I just
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: think you're gonna win or lose with the pass. And
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: I totally agree, you know, like as much as I
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: want to say, you want to win the battle up front,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: and I do think that there's a element truth. I
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: only think there's a couple of teams in the league
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: that could just line up and beat you running the ball,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: you know, almost solely. Let me Tennessee being the one
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: in Indianapolis is probably another one. But for the most part,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: and I'd maintain this like, there's just not enough ways
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: to score if all you do is run the ball. Now,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the teams that can run it and throw it, like
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: I think Indianapolis has a chance to be one of
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: those teams that can throw this year with Matt Ryan
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: when they want to throw to like compliment Jonathan Taylor,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: provided that he stays healthy. Can you imagine if Carson
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: Wentz could have completed I don't know, fifteen passes in
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: that game last year, they could have scored forty five points? Yeah,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: Like that was that game wasn't too far off of
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: the wind game with the Patriots when we attempted three passes.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: Like they would not let Carson Wentz throw the ball
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: in that game, right, I think he threw twelve times.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: It's funny, like, can you imagine if he could have gone,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: say fifteen for twenty two? Yeah, they could have scored
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: forty five points with the way that he was running
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: that night. A mire from Israel? Right, say hey guys
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: and Tamara, she's not here before I begin, Mike eating
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: Saga corn flakes is disgusting to marry your great and
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Paul Pepsi is only okay to drink when you're in
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: a restaurant that doesn't serve coke. I kind of agree
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: with that. See I think the opposite. Yeah, if I'm
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: at a restaurant and I say, can I get a
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: diet pepsi and they say coke. Okay, I say sure,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I'll drink it. I'll drink the diet coke. If they
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: don't have, well, you're a pepsi guy. Yeah. Yeah, I'm
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna go off on this guy. Now. No,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: we just had a whole conversation up stairs about Christina Tosi,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: who does Milk Bar and has basically like built her
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: whole empire kind of around corn flakes that are steeping
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: in milk and using that as cereal milk and baking
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: with that and everything. So we're not the only ones,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: all right. Do you even like it? I do like it,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: and I mean with Christina's product, like, it's hard to
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: argue against it. She's everywhere. It's like a taste of youth.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: I don't a soggy cereal. I don't know. I just
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: I love it. Um. Now for my question, let's go
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: back to the twenty nineteen season. Say we replace the
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: entire offense skill positions with the ones which are on
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: the current roster. How far would you guess that team
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: would go. I think they'd be better. I mean I
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: think that this is a better, a better unit. Um night,
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: I mean, but that was like Harry SNeW Edelman for
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: a couple of games or no, he was was it
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: wasn't Edelman played don't he played with a softball on
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: his shoulder, right, he was hurt, but he played through
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: that that year. I think so us I mean, yeah,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I'll look it up because they were all blending together
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: at this point or maybe twenty was the year, but
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: he missed a lot of the twenty season with I
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: remember with um Cam Newton and Cam's defense, I mean
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: he didn't have Edelman most of that year. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: I definitely take this group of weapons over. I mean,
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: it's just no comparison like Lacosse and Ryan Izzo and
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: you know, compared, But I mean, I still think you
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: got questions about the defense. Edelman had one hundred catches
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: for eleven hundred and seventeen yards and six stowns in
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: nineteen yea. So yeah with Brady, Yeah, he amir says,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: I would guess conference finals. And if that's the case,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: why do the overall feeling is that the offense is
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: so subpart? Do you think that? So he thinks Mac
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: Jones is anywhere comparable to Tom Brady in nineteen. Well,
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: he thinks that with this crew they would have gotten
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: to the conference finals, right, I don't. But do you
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: think that mac Jones is comparable to Tom Brady because
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: saying that that so, yeah, I think tom Brady would
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: lift these guys too. Well, yeah, possibly another win then
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: they got that year, But he could you're telling me
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: mac Jones could do the same thing. No, no, no,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: he's saying, I think I don't think he's including the
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: quarterback in those skilled positions. He eat mentioned running back,
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: tight end and wide receivers. Can you read the very
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: last part of the email again, He says, I would
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: guess they'd go to the conference finals and then and
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: if that's the case, why is the overall feeling is
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: that the offense is so subpar? Right again, because I
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: have a second year quarterback as opposed to the greatest
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: of all time. But that's not why they think it's subpar.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: If people do, but you have average weapons, no, no,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: but but think about with an unproven quarterback. Think about Okay,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: so in nineteen they got to the playoffs and got bounced, right,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: and he's saying, keep Brady, but take these offensive skill positions.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: Put it on nineteen. He thinks you get to the
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: conference finals. So all his point is is that maybe
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: these skills are a little better than we thought. So
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: if Brady, no, but if Brady had a little bit
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: more to work with, they might have won another game
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: or two. Was what the guys saying, right right, you
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: don't have Brady, you still have the average receivers with
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: an unproven quarterback. That's why people aren't necessarily as optimistic. Yeah,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: and I don't think it's subpar. I mean, I think
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: it's part. I didn't say it was sub I don't
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: say it was. I know, that's what I mean. That
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: was the point. But I'd take this group over the
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: nineteen group even I think it's pretty close. To be
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: honest with you, they didn't have anybody like Edelman I did.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: Your point about the tight ends is unarguable, in arguable,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: not arguable either way. You can't argue about it. Words
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: are hard, uh. Andrew says, I saw Eric as an
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: author on a few articles recently. Were those written before
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: he left or something? Oh? Yes, they were. Yeah. It's
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: kind of like when a when a recording artist dies
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: and they still keep uncovering material they recorded, and they
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: keep rereleasing it and repackaging it. So there's an Ivan
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: fierce piece coming at some point from Erica, and I
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: know they They recently resurfaced the away game list that
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: he had, which I had a lot of issues with. Yeah,
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: I really like gotten, you know me, That's not usually
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: my thing, but that was so off. I had conversations. Yeah,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: usually I just throw kerosene on the fire and let
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Fred beat up on Eric. It was on pagris dot
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: com today he ranked the away game away cities. I
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: forget they were wrong if it gets specifically um one,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: but like I just can't remember. But there was some
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: like what are you talking about? Yeah, he hadn't been
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: to like La too, He hadn't been to La. Yeah,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: he's just judging it by La, you know. Um. Some
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: of the newbies have been great. People who don't just
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: bounce around the country to different fan bases as a
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: profession are always more compelling voices on the show, excluding
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Fred of course, sorry talking about you. I don't Yeah,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I don't get it. Alex Is you know she hasn't
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: bounced around the country New England. I mean, so is
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: that taking a shout out tomorrow? Yeah? Probably, Well, I
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: don't think that's fair. I mean to be fair western massive.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: Is that really part of me? No? On our own
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: little island. Yeah, Like, dude, you're not even from here.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: People asked me in college what my accent was? What
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: you have the biggest Boston accent I've ever heard. You're
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: asking me what my accent is. People think I saw
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: him like like an upstate New York accs. Really, it
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: doesn't sound like you got any any accent. I don't know.
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: I don't really. Yeah, I don't detect much of an
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: accent for you. Yeah, did you work on that? How
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: long have you been hiding your accent? I don't think
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: I have one. It's gonna come out when she gets mad.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: And I definitely have one all of a sudden that
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: I try to hide. My first day at BU, we
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: had a sort of one of those communication things and
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: you go around you like introduce yourself, and I was
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I was planning on making the joke, and like everybody's like, yeah,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: I'm fred Kersh, I'm from you know whoever's team won
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: the Super Bowl last year. And you know, this is
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: when I'm majoring in and I'm listening to everybody, and
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I was like my accent's gonna come out here. There's
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: no there's no question, right. So I was like, I
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: introduced myself and I was like, and I really don't
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: have an accent. All of you talk funny is what
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: I was gonna say. Oh good, good, but they stepped
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: on it. They'll go oh yeah. I couldn't even get
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: the line out, and I was like, son of I
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: had the whole thing. I had the whole Fred all
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: set up. You just you just I got heckled. You
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: just sparked a memory for me. I remember my freshman
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: like probably the first day freshman year holy Cross. We
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: were all sitting in the wheeler two hallway and it
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: was a similar kind of thing where you know, you
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: toss the thing around and say who you are, and
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: there's this big dude and he grabs it. I think
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: his name is Dan bol and he's like, damn Boling.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: You know I played football, and he just like took
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: whatever it was I forget and just threw it as
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: hard as he could and it hit the fire extinguisher
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: thing and smashed it. I just told me in my roommate,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: who's just one of the funniest guys, just goes it's
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: like a quarterback. It's like, gon't you miss any time?
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: But that's stupid. You know, get to know your games
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: like college icebreakers. Yeah, I remember what are you doing?
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: I was really, what are you doing? I was like,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: oh no, that that line was going to be funny.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: I was like, no, what are you doing? Was that
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: like in your dorm or yeah, I was just taking
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: the dorm hallway. You know what, everyone's got to meet
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: on the stupid you know, just a We have these
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: two guys that live next to us that like apparently
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: brought their sub Warford to college. Like I'm like, what
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: how is this allowed? You know, we're just trying to
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: like sleep. And the rooms in Wheeler at holy Cross
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: aren't just I mean they are as narrow as you
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: can imagine, like you just the smallest field of the
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: wall vibrate. They would get like three in the morning.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: They just like base just your walls are rattling. And
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: you'd be like, hey, we gotta be able to six
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: for like a lift. Can you te you mind? Like
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: not with a subwolf. I don't know if like you're
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: an athlete, yeah, but I please, I'm not here for
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: studies for sports. I have to be on the ice
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: at six So can you turn that down? Maybe doing
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: snatch squats at about three hours? Uh? Yemi in Texas,
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: I'd pick your pardon, Yemi in Texas. I know Paul
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: is not a soccer fan, but if Italy were to
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: play a World Cup match at Gillette in twenty twenty six,
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: would Paul go No? No, really, no, the Motherland? Just
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: for the experience, You wouldn't go? No, Wow, I don't.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not making fun of anybody. They would.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: I just be way stood on me. For the rest
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: of you guys, will you go to watch the World
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Cup games in twenty twenty six? I will if I can. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: I'll tell you what event I'm really planning on going to,
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: and obviously it will depend on what our schedule is.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: The Army Navy, Yeah, when we host that in twenty three. Yeah,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: that I'm not interested in. Oh, I think that would
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: be a fantastic event. I want to take the kids.
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: I want to experience that. I think you know the
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: two sides when they're just uh, it's take your kids
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: to a fall game, Like I'm an experience in an hour.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: It's like I'm never taking my kids in an NFL game. Now,
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: it's like you got out. That's part of the thing
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: that they don't tell you about, Like you know you
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: got you work with the Patriots. Oh it's great. You
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: know what I never got to do, Like I never
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: got to take my kids to you. Yeah, you know
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: it seems so weird now, like imagining a fan experience
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: here and like not not having to think about it.
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: But yeah, um, let's see, Tim writes in a couple
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: of questions. First is a more general football slash sports question.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: Which professional sports team do you hate for no good reason?
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: Besides Boston rivals like the Yankees, AFC East, Lakers, et cetera.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: Mine would be the Titans. I can't stand them, and
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: I think Tannehill is an overrated and overpaid bum huh.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: I mean, the usual suspects. It usually just depends on
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: who's good. Like I don't yeah, like, I don't feel
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: the same. I love that wonderful honesty. I like, I
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: don't like. I used to hate the Colts when it
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: was a right, you know, but now I'm like, they're
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: the Colts, I don't. I mean, I think the AFC
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: East teams you're always get a little bit amped up
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: for but you know, like even I can't shake the
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: feeling of like, you know, there's still a little bit
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: of me, like it's kind of cool. The Buffalo is
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: good right now, it's something different, you know, Like I
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: understand that that's helpful for the league. But but you know,
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: what team do you hate for no good reasons? I can't.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Can't they need a reason? Yeah, because why would you
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: have such a visceral Yeah, I make up reasons. I
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: can make them up. But like I think Mike just
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: did it. So Mike can find a way that any
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: team that's good, he's gonna try to hate it because
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: if they achieve anything, it might somehow diminish the fact
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: that the Patriots won six titles in twenty years. But
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: like every team that I hate, like I hate Dallas,
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: I hate the Jets, like I hate the Raiders, you know,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: in general terms, like there's reasons for that, right, I
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: can't really think of a team that I just hate
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: for no reason. Yeah, I mean we're back on h
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: We're back. Hey. So that was weird. Everything just cut off?
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: So all right, So back to Timothy's question. Second is
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: a little more thought provoking. H If you could go
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: back and undo one of the following former Patriots trades,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: Which would it be sending Jimmy g to the forty
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: nine ers or sending Brandon Cooks to the Rams. Personally,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: I would have loved to have kept Cooks, Cooks or MS.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Part of me wants to say, snow that was that
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: was a bad one, But yeah, I think I think.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: I mean, they ended up winning the it's only those two.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: You got to pick between those two, those two, I
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: would I would do Cooks too, because at that point
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: you had to get rid of Jimmy. Um Now, I
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: think we could have gotten a little bit more if
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: we had done it before the draft. Um. But but
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: you don't wish we kept Jimmy. No, No, So of
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: those two, you know we had Tom. So of those two,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: I would say Brandy Cooks. Sure. Yeah, even though they
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: won the super Bowl the next year without them. Yeah,
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: I don't know that. I just think, like with the
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: s new thing, I wish you realized that he wasn't
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: going to make a difference. And then that second round
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: pick was in a prime area of when you need
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: high round picks to rebuild this team, and that one,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: that one kind of still sticks, I mean trades. You
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: you wish you could have back Patriots trades? Ye, out
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: of cooks second round? That was bad trade. Yeah, the
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: cooks trade wasn't a bad trade. No, not that I'm
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: looking to climb, But the question if you could redo,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: if you could go back and change one of the trades,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: cooks or Jimmy Jimmy G, which one would you keep? Cooks? Yeah? Yeah, right, yeah,
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: like I yeah, I think you could have gotten more
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: for Jimmy G. But he's right, an average jack quarterback.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: Um Kareem writes in in Boston, what's up, Ugh, Crew?
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: And Hello Alex. Chances that James Devlin is a Patriot's
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: Hall of Famer If Andy's voting, Yeah, I hesitate to
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: say zero, because I right. I have never ceased to
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: be amazed by the guys that get nominated. There was
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: a guy nominated this past year that I absolutely couldn't fathom.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: So well, I got I don't think James Devlin belongs
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: to the Patriots. I can I can tease a little bit.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: I wrote a story um for the Game Day magazine
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: this year about you know, New England small school football
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: and got a chance to interview Devlin and Eric Adler
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: dug up some really good pictures of like him from
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: Brown back in the day. Um had had a really
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: good conversation with him. I don't think he's gonna get in,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: but giving him a little bit the love and yeah,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: I mean, you could be like a sort of memorable
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: figure and a key part of some successful teams without
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: necessarily being worthy of being in the team's hall of fame, right, yeah,
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: And he asked chances of being in the Pro Football
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, Now that would be none, right? Zero? Right?
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: I mean, come on, wasn't there a game on there?
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: There is? There probably is a game down there, Fred
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: it was I didn't want to go into it when
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: I was hosting, and it was Patriots history stuff. So
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: it's now that I've eaten i'd probably be able to
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: answer that this Cody as always thank you for the
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: work You've been listening for nearly fifteen years, and wanted
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: to throw heaps of praise for all my favorite podcast
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: slash online radio show. I'd also like to add that
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: both Alex and Tamara have been great additions to the show.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: For the game, It's a who am I game? These
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: players were part of the Patriots, whether it'd be past
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: present or offseason only already. So have you played this
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: game before? We've gotten random little trivia games. So this
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: is one where I throw out a clue and you
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: get to guess, but if you're wrong, you're out. And
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: then I keep going down the list with clues until
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: I run out or somebody gets it. So during my first,
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: my final I'm sorry, during my final preseason game with
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: the New England Patriots, the announcers lauded my physicality because
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: of my jersey getting torn making a tackle. That's a
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: that's a tough one. Yeah, you never get it off that.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: I am currently still to anything you hear in those
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: preseason broadcasts. I am currently still employed by an NFL team. Hint.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: That doesn't necessarily makes me feel like this is a trick.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: That's a trick. Hint. Um, I am a nine time
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Pro bowler in one time Super Bowl champ. And yes,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: I was gonna say. The next one was Fred had
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: a massive man crush on me, so I didn't need
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: I didn't need the layup hints, right, um, next one,
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: I wore a fairly notable number during my time with
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: the Patriots. But this number is not notable because of
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: my play. I don't even know what that even means,
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: Like what the fine note back? Mason? Yeah, um, I
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: was not drafted. My college no longer has a football program, Northeastern.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: And finally, many many New England fans would watch me
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: play and scream at the television to turn your head around,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: turn your head around. It's gonna be a cornerback. Yeah
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: it is Malcolm Butler. No, Kyle Arrington. What was his number?
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: Twenty seven? Why is this number switched around a little bit?
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: I think I think he had like three different numbers.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: I think twenty seven, and then he was twenty briefly. Well,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: I guess, um Butler just for the undrafted thing. But yeah,
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: next one, I was a sixth round pick by the Patriots.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: I kicked all right. I kicked off for an NFL
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: team while not being a kicker or punter. Huh. I
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: have one Super Bowl ring and I currently reside in
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: the AFC South. That's hard. Yeah, it's Camere Grugier. Hill
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: kicked off. Yea, yeah, I see the kickoff. Did you
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: kick something I didn't get? You know? Yeah? Final one.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: I have only recorded statistics for two NFL franchises. I
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: have only scored one touchdown during my entire career, coming
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: in my last year with the Patriots. I played college
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: ball at a school in Indiana. And to give it away,
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: it is media speculation, Fred that I faked an injury
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: as an excuse for giving up a touchdown. Wait, what
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: did you say it was? He went to college where
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: in a school in Indiana? He went to Illinois? Did he? Well,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: that's not that's not the same place. That's not good.
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: It's a partial credit. Cody and Fresno Wright saying, looking
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: back on pass training camps, was there anything you all
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: noticed or looked for that may have translated to success
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: that season? Anything that stood out in the Super Bowl
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: seasons that was noticeable in camp besides the talent level. Well,
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: you remember Gil Santos in two thousand and seven New
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: in the preseason when they ran the ball like ten
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: consecutive times for a touchdown. Death knew then. I knew
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: then they would be Super Bowl champions. I mean, I
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: don't want to they weren't. I don't want to keep
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: eating the dead horse. But I feel like nikkil Harry
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: the opposite end of back to him of just being
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: not impressed with Yeah, and I always feel like that's
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: an indictment on us, Like when we watch, like I
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: think it's far easier to say, did you ever watch
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: in camp and say like that guy's not going to
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: be able to help the team, Well, that guy can't play.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: And I have a handful of those, but I don't
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: have a lot of things that really stick out to
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: me like wow, now, yes, year after year of the
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: Brady era, you could tell, like Brady Gronk the phrase
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: earlier in the like this is a good team. You
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: could tell it's a good team. You could see it. Yeah,
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: the way they went about their business. The ball you know,
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: said that to you last year the ball never hit
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: the ground. Um, just the execution Christmas, but nothing in particular.
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: But it's just I mean, it's easier to see that.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: I think like guys like Jacoby Myers who are just solid,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: like and you don't really know what the ceiling is
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: going to be, but they look pretty solid. I mean,
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: I imagine Brady to Moss, Brady to Gronk was like,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: both this is there are guys that that stuck out
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: and like, oh that guy he can play about idea,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: what about when Rodney joined the team. Rodney, Yeah, he
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: had the physic a go presence right away. Try Brown
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: wanted to fight them through the ball at them and
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: all that this, Like you didn't know what was going
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: to really happen, you know, honestly you couldn't say. When
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: I saw Rodney, I knew they were gonna be Super Bowl? Right? Well,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: how do you and I? You know me? I hearted Rodney? Sure,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: Like how can you tell? Even like you've had amazing
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: cornerbacks come through here, Stefan Gilmore. I mean we watched
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: Stefan Gilmore in twenty nineteen, Like, you can't tell he's
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: going to be a shutdown corner in the NFL during
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: the regular season. Like, how are you going to tell
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: a pass rusher you know it's going to be dominant
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: once they get there. You can't you can't tell against me?
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: What's what? What? I don't know? If you read this
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: one Deuce um Brendan writes in from Edmonton, He says,
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: if you could have dinner with three athletes alive or dead,
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: who would they be? And also, Alex, do you like raisins?
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: Raisins are Okay? I don't know why I like the
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: other forms of grapes, but are like grapes and wine.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: But I like raisins. I don't like raisins when they're
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: in carrot cake. I like no raisins and Raisin brand
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: chocolate cover Raisins pretty sugar, right, Yeah, I like raisins.
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: I like grapes in general. I like grapes a lot,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: but I don't. I'm like nervous about this question. Yeah,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: I feel like it's everything You're gonna get sent a
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: case of raisins. What is going on? It's getting weird.
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: Someone's got crush all three three athletes alive or dead
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: that you'd want to have dinner with. I mean probably
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: for me, Brady. I know that my shocks some people,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: but it shocks may be pretty good. Terrible he was,
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: you're overrated. I think Brady for me was one. Brady
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: could follow up on that kiss, man, I really can't.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: I mean maybe Muhammad Ali, Yeah, Ali would be good.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: I think mac and Row used to be bored, but
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I think he'd be too boring. Yeah, mack and Row
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: would be good. I agree, I don't. I don't really
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: have any What about Tiger Woods, No, Tiger wouldn't pick
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: up the check. Yeah, he would would ever bring anything
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: to that he cost the waitress depends on um how
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: low class the place would Charles Barkley, somebody are more
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: like guys that you love as an athlete. Other people
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: here think are interesting. I'm trying, like like I love.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: I think the whole thing of Ted Williams was amazing. Yeah,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: you know, like he was the best fighter pilot, he
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: was the best baseball players, the best fly fisherman. But
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: I don't think i'd want to have dinner with him
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: because yeah, you really bad dad. They say, yeah, I
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: can confirm he's related related, Are you really well? Kind
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: of he's you know, my grandfather was friends with growing
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: what they used to fish together. That's wrong, it's a
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: past episode because beyond that, because you can John Henry,
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: his son John Henry is do so is like his
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: like second middle name is because apparently my grandfather talked Doris.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: I think it Doris whatever the wife's name was into
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: kind of like talk Ted to being okay to have
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: the baby. It was weird. It's a whole weird story. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: Ted Williams ties my dad hated guy. Yeah, yeah for sure. Yeah,
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: so um Jack writes in his three would be Jim Thorpe,
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Babe Ruth and Magic Johnson. They can be dead. Yeah,
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: he said, Yeah, Babe Ruth would be a good one.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: I think Babe Bruce, he's a party. I think Babe
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: Ruth would be a good one. Yeah, that's like what
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: like twenties party. You know it's a little different, right,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Like he smoke his cigars, you know, Chason women through
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: the train and a towel. Oh, Marhawn Lynch, I don't
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: want to hang out with him, that's bad. Maybe Bill Russell, Yeah,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: Bill Russell. Did you guys see the applebee The Bills
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: when he was a rookie, When Marshawn Lynch is a
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: rookie did a video where they just bring him to
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Applebee's and he talks about it's his favorite restaurant. That's
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: a great one. I think he would. He's you talk
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: about somebody funny and interesting? What about the Mannings? What
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: about like the three Manning boys. I don't really have
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: any Eli Peyton and I think, yeah, but Peyton is
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: pretty funny. I think he plays that. I think Eli
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: plays that. I saw another thing with him over the weekend.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: It was like a see I think he doesn't have
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: a choice. You would need them together. I would want
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: them to like the package deal. Yeah, I would want
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: I would have Peyton in any lie together. I think
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: they're really funny, but I don't have any real interest
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: in going to dinner with them. Yeah, but maybe Arch
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: come to Archie and Arch Archy Arch. It's a good um,
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: spe says, I looked up the Raisins line and it's
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: do you like Raisins? How do you feel about a date? Ah,
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: that was coming in. It's kind of weird to do
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: an email though, he really so that's why he asked, said,
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: maybe someone has a crush on Arch. Yeah, do you
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: like Raisins? How do you feel about a date? Another
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: emailout those Raisins. There'll be another email following up on
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: this Momentarily it'll all makes sense. How do you like them? Raisins? Right? Right?
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: It's a great sealth Park episode too, which one Raisins
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: where it's like Hooters Step, but it's like the self
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: park version of of Hooters is called raising do the
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: math Um? Ryan says, uh about Breeze Drew Brees, were
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: you talking about still? Won't I really regret bringing that one?
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: Do you guys remember the Minneapolis miracle digs in the
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: sideline also the PI call. Would you say Breeze has
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: also had a bit of that, Yeah, some bad fortune
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: like Manning. Yeah, well certainly those two games would be
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: prime examples of it. Yeah, what am I forgetting? Did
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: they lose the pit I'm remembering Indie losing and heartbreaking
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: fashion to the Steelers with Manning. It must have been
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: oh five maybe or something like. It was like they
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: had they were going into winning, they fled the drunken kicker,
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: No Pittsburgh, but the drunken kicker missed a field goal
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: and they would have tied the game and gone over time. Um.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: But you know, at the same time with the Drew Breese,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: and I think those two examples would be prime examples
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: of just bad luck that really didn't have a lot
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: to do with him, if anything. But he is also
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: the only time he won, he was gifted the NFC
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: championship with Brett Fire's ridiculous interception in field goal range
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: in overtime. Right, you can the Vikings announcer had a
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: coronary on air, right, lots more playoff games anybody, And
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: he threw a pick. U gin is from Brooklyn. He
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: says learning that Fred is an Emerson alum. Bright in
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: my day since I two in alum but for their
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: film school. My time in college was when I started
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: getting into sports, especially the Patriots. So I have a
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: game where the PU crew pretends to be HBO executives
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: and I'm a filmmaker giving you a pitch for ten
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: episode miniseries about the Patriots dynasty. Ready, ready, right up,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: your The series will tell We'll focus on Brady Belichick's
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: last championship run in eighteen, with flashbacks to previous seasons
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: where they made the Super Bowl. Instead of a story
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: where it's all about the drama, this series is equally
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: about the game of football. The series will show audiences
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: the strategy of football and the challenges it takes to
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: building a winning football team. We will see how Belichick
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: developed a modern slot receiver in the versatility of twelve personnel.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: We will see how Brady wasn't born a champion, but
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: forged into one. Cameraman from NFL Films will be hired
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: to replicate the style of filming football games from intense
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: close ups and boots on the ground intensity, none of
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: those boring shots from other football movies cough, American underdog
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: cough and casting wise, I would cast Alexander scars Guard
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: as Brady and Paul Giamatti as Belichick. That's pretty good casting.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Who's Alexander's scars Guard? He was the Viking guy. He's uh, oh,
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: he's been a lot of stuff lately. Oh yeah, not Thor.
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: Who's Thor? No, that's Chris h Chris Hemsworthy. The series
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: will not pan to the mainstream idea that Brady Belichick
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: and the Patriots are nothing more than table headlines. This
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: miniseries will show that they are actually one of the
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: biggest contributors to the game of football. What do you
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: guys think? Now? Sorry, yeah, I have less than zero
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: interest in any team showing me that like foot, like
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: Jess Football like a ten part, Like where's the story?
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: There's nobody, Like, there's no story, there's no hook. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: I guess that's the problem with sports movies, Like it's
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: it's hard to do a good sports movie because either
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: in the end they're gonna win or they're gonna lose,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: and you're basing, you know, when the best stories have
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: nothing to do with winning and losing. Well, maybe that's
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: why he's doing it. Not about you know, the winning championship,
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: but more about the behind. But what do you like
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: if you're like, if you're a real Patriots fan, you're
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: telling me that you don't have any interest in the
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: relationship between Belichick and like that doesn't interest you, that
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: doesn't fascinate you. Yes, Like what was it really? Like?
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: I think I think yeah, And I think the way
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: you frame it has got to be you know, Bill
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Belichick going from a guy who got fired from Cleveland
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: to get a second chance to what he kind of
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: became game and then Tom Brady becoming you know TV
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: twelve and in his like character out you know, even
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: the way here, even the way he described all of that,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: Like how Brady was forged into a championship? Are you
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: kidding me? Like was still was still doing this? How
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: many games does the guy have to win before we
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: stopped giving credit for somebody else creating him, you know,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: like how Belichick created the slot receiver, you know, Wayne
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: Grabet and Troy Brown would like a word like there's
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: a million slot Like I just I can't believe we
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: still do this, and I you know, we have to
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: stop it. We have to end a show with stuff
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: like this. All right, seemingly every time. That is the
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: end of the show. Thanks everyone for listening. Sorry about
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: the little mishap um, but we will be back Thursday
