- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, this music is meant to
- 0:13fire you up, right, So I'm gonna give you something to be fired
- 0:16up for on this Sunday. As we are under a month from the honoring
- 0:20of September eleventh, can you imagine a world where the terrorists and the mastermind
- 0:27behind nine to eleven gets a plea deal? Get this? The Biden administration
- 0:36is email is mailing out and then notifying nine to eleven families that there are
- 0:45possible plea deals with alleged attack planners. And this is the society you weren't
- 0:54What have I told you before? You're an Alex Garrett podcasting? What have
- 0:59I told you before? We are not being tough enough on criminals, and
- 1:07unfortunately it goes from making fifty two percent or more of felonies misdemeanors in the
- 1:17city to now bigger issues where we're saying, hey, let's give a plea
- 1:21deal to the masterminds that took down our twin towers on the nine to eleven
- 1:27attacks. It's not just the administration, it's a They're listening to a societal
- 1:34viewpoint which I don't really understand. Shouldn't we be hard on crime and shouldn't
- 1:42be shouldn't we just be I hate to say, burning these masterminds alive,
- 1:49but we shouldn't be giving them plea deals. They shouldn't be getting any kind
- 1:53of role or release of any kind. How soft is that? So what
- 2:00the people who went in the tower, his first responders go in there for
- 2:04only twenty two years later to see, oh, while the masterminds could be
- 2:09out of jailing back on their own two feet. And no, that doesn't
- 2:15make sense and should incense you. And this isn't the only time the bidens
- 2:21have ripped apart the wounds of nine to eleven. I would say the withdrawal
- 2:24from Afghanistan ripped the wounds open again, ripped the scabs open again. And
- 2:32this is adding to it. And then you notify the families, You notify
- 2:38the families. Come on, Biden administration, you can't be that anti American?
- 2:49Can you? But get Trump? But indict Trump. And look,
- 2:55I'm not saying what Trump did was American. What he has in certain ways
- 3:00it's very Unamerican, but not to that point, not to the point of
- 3:05you persecute the former president. But you release and say, hey, guys,
- 3:12that took down our own twin towers. Go your merry way, plea
- 3:16deals, give me a flipping break, Give me a flipping break. And
- 3:24then on top of it all today and I was feeling a week behind here
- 3:30today new fares rolled out for the MTA, and am I a happy camper
- 3:40about it? Well? Not if the service is gonna be slipshod delayed.
- 3:46It always as always, But how about this, because I've seen it now
- 3:52today and other times over the weekend where my own girlfriend who's in a power
- 4:00wheelchair could not even make it on three subways due to inaccessibility. It's one
- 4:06thing to make the announcements about accessibility, but it's another to then say,
- 4:16hey, we're gonna raise fairs even on half fare cards and you need it
- 4:21to so you're not jumping the turnstile. Well, we're not trying to jump
- 4:27to the cernstile. We're just trying to get from A to B. Can
- 4:29that be possible? So with this fair increase, I'm gonna say it,
- 4:33as I said in the actual messages to the NYCT Subway Twitter page, please
- 4:44use this fair increase to include ramps in the budget, like the LR ramps
- 4:51and bridge plates. So that people with disabilities of all kinds of chairs,
- 4:57not just wheelchairs, but I don't know power chairs. Is a four hundred
- 5:00pounds or more could easily navigate in what we call the boarding areas, which
- 5:04I don't even feel like accessible boarding. But on the flip side of that
- 5:11coin, if you're a passenger today and you're confused about the fairs and upset
- 5:15about the fair raise, and maybe we're not uninformed about it, don't get
- 5:19on the case of the tough ticket collector. They're just doing their job.
- 5:26Be mad at the authorities they report too, not to the average person who
- 5:36may be that ticket collector, who may have a family to get back to,
- 5:42who maybe, like you and I, hard working blue collar Americans just
- 5:45trying to make a living. Those aren't fool we should be getting mad at
- 5:50during this time of change. Be right back on the Alex Garret podcast.
- 6:00What I had a calm down there, because I have a lighter note now
- 7:46involving my dad's beloved Chicago Cups. In fact, what do they say in
- 7:53Chicago? What do they say they say? And by the way, not
- 8:09for another but since my dad passed, the Cubs have been kicking ass in
- 8:13the n L Central. They're right in the playoff race. They're actually in
- 8:16the wild card positioning here and that that is fun to see with the talent
- 8:22they got in Chicago. But I asked them an interesting question, uh Cubs
- 8:30customer fan customer service. I said to them, is it possible? Because
- 8:37I had put my dad alone, without my stepfather, Vic and my mom.
- 8:43We had put my father's ashes in these little cups. And I said
- 8:46to the Cubs fan assistance, is it possible that you guys can take a
- 8:54couple of my dad's ashes back to Wrigley. That didn't seem like a healthy
- 9:00or safe thing to do, so they said this. They said to us,
- 9:05well, we can send you a letter of condolence, and what's your
- 9:09best email and mailing address, I should say, And I gave him my
- 9:18address, and sure enough, today the Cubs sent my family and I this.
- 9:30It's pretty amazing, this letter on behalf of the Chicago Cubs. Would
- 9:37you like to hear it, Dear Alex, The Chicago Cubs are very sadden
- 9:41to hear about the passing of one of our biggest fans. Your father,
- 9:48your dad was an incredibly low Cubs fan, and we are honored to have
- 9:52had him as part of our baseball family. We wanted to take this opportunity
- 9:58to offer our condolences to your entire family. For more than one hundred years,
- 10:03there's been a unique group of people called Cubs fans. Some people become
- 10:07fans after hearing the first crack of the bat on the radio, or maybe
- 10:11after seeing the first glimpse of green ivy on the outfield wall. For others,
- 10:16being a fanlis or tradition passed down from one member family member to another.
- 10:22Most people, however, would say they were just born Cub fans.
- 10:26It's nothing you can really explain. It's just something you feel in your own
- 10:31heart. We're guessing that's exactly how your dad would have described his devotion to
- 10:37our greatball club. On behalf of the Chicago Cubs. Please know that your
- 10:43family is in our thoughts. I mean, this is a professional Major League
- 10:48Baseball organization, let alone being the Cubs. If any organization did this,
- 10:52I would be wowed beyond belief. But this is the Cubs. My dad's
- 10:56favorite team. He would take me to the cub met game almost every year
- 11:01since I was born, and my my girlfriend and I continued that tradition last
- 11:07week when they were here at City Field. Yeah, the Mets did win
- 11:09the series, but it was fun just to continue that tradition. I planned
- 11:13to him outside of City Field before one of the games, say pop.
- 11:18He made it again in one form or another, but but it just prommed
- 11:26me to tell you the story of how an Oklahoma boy became a Cubs fan
- 11:31in Minnesota. He told me the story of how he just I think he
- 11:37did listen to radio, believe it or not, and he just got hooked
- 11:41on Chicago sports. I think the Blackhawks were first, So the Cubs were
- 11:43first, then the Blackhawks and then the Bears, and those three have been
- 11:48his core teams. And as far as the Cubs go, when the met
- 11:58when they were in town in nineteen ninety five, I want to say,
- 12:03my dad had me go up to the broadcast booth. I got a picture
- 12:07with Harry Carey. True story. At one of my first memories traveling.
- 12:15For some reason, I remember seeing the Pirates on deck Circle at Wriggley Field
- 12:18because we had Harry Carey signed to that picture in the broadcast booth at Wriggley.
- 12:28And I also remember, and maybe if you know me long enough.
- 12:31You remember, my dad used to dress me up with this little Cub one
- 12:35zs in these Cub shirts over the years, and then I hadn't really one.
- 12:41I remember with the big Cubs logo on the chests, and I fell
- 12:48in love with that jersey. I've had one almost ever since I was a
- 12:50kid, thanks to my dad. And for the Cubs to recognize him means
- 12:56a lot. And I always thank Bryant because see, when Chris Bryant was
- 13:03coming up through the ranks, I had done a series that they should promote
- 13:05him to the major leagues. Sure enough, his rookie season, he got
- 13:09there. I believe I was fifteen Onn't you know it. About a year
- 13:15later, since Chris Bryant's entry into Major League baseball, Bryant Terrizzo the moment
- 13:22that everyone baseball fan or not will remember as Anthony Rizzo put that ball in
- 13:28his back pocket and the Cubs had broken a one hundred and eight year curse.
- 13:33I always thank Chris Bryant, though, for making that curse, for
- 13:39breaking that curse, because if it wasn't for his energy, for his hitting,
- 13:46for his timely hitting, his clutch hitting, I don't know if the
- 13:50Cubs were in that position in twenty sixteen. But I remember watching that series
- 13:58of my dad and sure, and of course we had seen the Year in
- 14:01two thousand and three with Bartmann twenty years ago. He had seen year every
- 14:07year before that or the Cubs just disappointed. But in twenty sixteen, a
- 14:18week before the biggest election that would change everything, the Cugs went first and
- 14:31they made history by winning that World Series. I mean it was it was,
- 14:41of course rain delay riddled and everything like that, but I'm slap my
- 14:45dad got to see a World Series win from the Cubs in his lifetime.
- 14:50And hell, I'm glad sister Jean, who throughout the first pictures a few
- 14:54weeks ago, got to see that win. She's one hundred and three years
- 15:00old. And so for those who lived through the forties, fifties, sixties,
- 15:07seventies, eighties, nineties, and the almost of two thousands, that
- 15:13twenty sixteen when had to mean much more than we realized. My dad said
- 15:18he became a Cub fan in the late forties, early fifties, and sorry,
- 15:24guy, if I didn't get that quite right, but that's what I
- 15:26believe was the case, and always wanted our minute a guy from Oklahoma who
- 15:33went to school and taught at Minnesota University as a Gopher became a Cup fan.
- 15:41It was always fascinating to me that he actually just went totally cross states
- 15:50to become a Cub, a Chicago fan, but he did, and going
- 15:56in twenty eleven was specially I mean, the Yanks won that day, but
- 15:58that was special. Two to be the friendly come by at wrigley Field,
- 16:06Wrigleyville, but for Wrigleyville to come to Queen to Port Washington in that note,
- 16:15for Wrigleyville to embrace my entire family in their organization, just through my
- 16:22dad means the world. And my girlfriend I we wear the Cubs and cheer
- 16:30for them a lot, especially since my dad passed. And maybe this year,
- 16:37somehow they'll pull it together and do it again. I do believe that
- 16:44would be my dad's wish and my dad's will over above. I mean,
- 16:48you can't explain a nine or ten game win streak multiple times since it's passed
- 16:52away. It just feels divine. But thank you for Chicago Cubs. Many
- 17:03have called it a class act and I would say the same, and I'm
- 17:10glad I get the chance to read that letter. To you here on the
- 17:11Alex Scaret Podcast Network, and it seemed like the Cubs are there for you,
- 17:19even if they're busy competing. They have a community outreach all the way
- 17:26to New York City. And one last story, we took hours upon hours
- 17:33upon hours and sleeping in the train station up in Utica nearer Cooperstown just to
- 17:42see justice see Ryan Sandburn being inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame
- 17:49in Cooperstown. I remember that day like it was yesterday. But that's how
- 18:00much Cub fan is. He wanted to go see Ryan Sandberg being duct into
- 18:03the Hall, and so it's it's fitting as much as we followed the Cubs
- 18:14almost everywhere, even in Philadelphia, but they will come back home to Long
- 18:21Island and Queens and where my family is and help us feel like part of
- 18:29their Wrigleyville. Can't wait to get out there again and be part of the
- 18:38Cub fans. Have a great day on the Alex Garrett Podcast Network, and
- 18:45we will talk to you very soon. Let's hear it one more time.
