- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, gorgeous, Welcome back to the bonus episode of We
- 0:08Speaker 1: Give Them All, a podcast on the heels of what
- 0:11Speaker 1: we spoke about on last week's.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Regular old episode.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I want to put out there some fantastic organizations that
- 0:19Speaker 1: have been vetted and you can go to and give
- 0:23Speaker 1: whatever you possibly can. Los Angeles definitely needs you, guys
- 0:29Speaker 1: right now. And remember LA isn't just home to celebrities
- 0:34Speaker 1: with a lot of money. People have come from all
- 0:36Speaker 1: over the world in hopes for dreams and a better life.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And a lot of those people came and have been
- 0:44Speaker 1: in their homes for decades and they're just regular people
- 0:49Speaker 1: like us.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And I want you to remember that part.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Before I give this laundry list of incredible organizations. In
- 0:59Speaker 1: the last epis Landon, I cut you off and you
- 1:04Speaker 1: weren't able to talk about the incredible firefighter program for inmates.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think we need to talk about that.
- 1:10Speaker 3: I think it's really cool, pretty impressive, one awesome that we.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Could get additional resources, right and additional manpower to go
- 1:18Speaker 4: out and fight it. But this program, I was reading
- 1:21Speaker 4: a guy the kind of that used to be in
- 1:22Speaker 4: and he's out now, and he was detailing how it
- 1:25Speaker 4: works and it was really really cool. And so this
- 1:28Speaker 4: program one CalFire comes in. It's a voluntary program. You
- 1:31Speaker 4: have to agree to go into it. So some people
- 1:33Speaker 4: were I think talking about it was like, oh, terrible conditions.
- 1:36Speaker 5: How can you force these people to go work? Right?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Oh okay, So people thought it was like, hey, you
- 1:40Speaker 1: inmate four seven, five six, get your ass out there.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And that's not what it's like.
- 1:44Speaker 3: No, not what it's like at all.
- 1:46Speaker 4: And so be you have to volunteer to go into it,
- 1:48Speaker 4: and you have to have less than seven years on
- 1:50Speaker 4: your prison sentence left because it reduces the time you
- 1:53Speaker 4: have to serve by doing this. And CalFire comes in.
- 1:57Speaker 4: They do a short training, not like a full fire training,
- 1:59Speaker 4: but a short train and they work only with they
- 2:01Speaker 4: don't use water at all, and they're fighting, so they
- 2:05Speaker 4: get like hand tools to like clean the brush so
- 2:08Speaker 4: they prevent the fire from spreading more got us, So
- 2:12Speaker 4: so they go in on the ground. They don't man
- 2:14Speaker 4: an engine or anything like that. But once they get
- 2:17Speaker 4: into the program, they go into these fire camps. It's
- 2:21Speaker 4: not just during the wildfires. They're out of prison, out
- 2:23Speaker 4: of the prison system, or not the prison system, but
- 2:26Speaker 4: out of the prison walls for the rest of their sentence,
- 2:29Speaker 4: and they're in these wilderness camps where they train, you know,
- 2:32Speaker 4: and they're there and doing stuff year round. They're living
- 2:34Speaker 4: in the wilderness, which sounds you know from this one guy,
- 2:37Speaker 4: it's a hell of a lot better than the prison system.
- 2:40Speaker 4: They get better food out there during fires, they get
- 2:43Speaker 4: really good food, he was saying.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And they make a little bit of money.
- 2:46Speaker 5: It's not a lot. It's five ten dollars a day all.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Year round, and then during a wildfire they get additional
- 2:52Speaker 4: one dollar per hour when they're actively fighting it.
- 2:55Speaker 6: But the other thing that is great is they're learning
- 2:58Speaker 6: and they could can Can they be firefighters when they're
- 3:02Speaker 6: out of prison?
- 3:02Speaker 5: Is that something that they Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 4: So it's the program is really awesome because when they
- 3:07Speaker 4: get out, they're eligible to get their record completely expunged,
- 3:10Speaker 4: which makes it a lot easier to get any type
- 3:12Speaker 4: of job. But they also have programs, like Ventura County
- 3:15Speaker 4: has one that'll take them in to help them actually
- 3:17Speaker 4: become official firefighters when they get out.
- 3:19Speaker 5: So it's giving them a career as well.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Really awesome.
- 3:23Speaker 5: That's a way to do it.
- 3:24Speaker 4: And I saw TikTok again, going back to last week
- 3:28Speaker 4: when we were talking about TikTok going away, but interviewing
- 3:31Speaker 4: some of these inmates that were fighting, and a lot
- 3:34Speaker 4: of them were like, I found my passion, Like I
- 3:36Speaker 4: really love doing this, Like I'm helping people. And they're
- 3:40Speaker 4: not violent offenders either, right, you have to be like
- 3:42Speaker 4: minimum security.
- 3:43Speaker 5: They couldn't have done anything crazy.
- 3:44Speaker 2: So there's stipulations on who's eligible.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not just hey, we'll take anybody, right, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 4: it's stipulation on who's eligible. But a few of the
- 3:53Speaker 4: people were like, yeah, I'm excited. I'm I get to
- 3:55Speaker 4: go into the Ventura County program. When I get out,
- 3:57Speaker 4: my record's going to be cleaned. I'm like, like I
- 4:00Speaker 4: get a fresh start and I get and I found
- 4:02Speaker 4: something that I love and that I can help people.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Like what an awesome thing that is.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And you said that they have to have seven years
- 4:09Speaker 1: or less on their sentence, right, seven.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Years or less to be elegy left, So like say
- 4:14Speaker 6: you went for ten and then you served, and now
- 4:16Speaker 6: you can do it.
- 4:17Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, yeah, makes sense.
- 4:19Speaker 1: That is an incredible program and they did. They did
- 4:22Speaker 1: make a difference. So here's some ways that you can
- 4:26Speaker 1: help out, you guys. Baby to Baby is accepting donations
- 4:29Speaker 1: to support children impacted by the wildfires. I have to
- 4:32Speaker 1: tell you, Ocean, because we left, and she actually just
- 4:36Speaker 1: had the fire department at her school, so she's very
- 4:39Speaker 1: into telling me that. You know, when she knew about
- 4:42Speaker 1: the fire, she said, Mom, we have to call nine
- 4:44Speaker 1: one one and we have to tell them. And I
- 4:45Speaker 1: tried to explain the best way that I could. Hi, Baby,
- 4:50Speaker 1: what happened to you?
- 4:51Speaker 5: Do you want to come over here and say hi?
- 4:53Speaker 2: She's in Christmas pajamas.
- 4:55Speaker 1: She pulls them out because mom, am I allowed to
- 4:57Speaker 1: wear Christmas pajamas because I.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Said, you can wear whatever you want.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Ocean, what are you going to do with some of
- 5:04Speaker 1: your toys and clothes for kids that were affected by
- 5:07Speaker 1: the fire? I kinda give a little bit toys away.
- 5:13Speaker 5: I love that.
- 5:14Speaker 2: That's so great.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So I know a lot of people with kids have
- 5:18Speaker 1: been trying to explain the best way they can, and
- 5:21Speaker 1: I think, you know, we need to explain to our
- 5:23Speaker 1: kids who are old enough without making it scary, but
- 5:26Speaker 1: how we can help. I mean, it was a tremendous
- 5:29Speaker 1: learning experience. I can't say the Ocean at the beginning
- 5:32Speaker 1: when I said we're going to clear your toys out,
- 5:34Speaker 1: was excited about it, and then we had to sit
- 5:37Speaker 1: down and had a very productive conversation.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You can also go to go fund me.
- 5:44Speaker 1: They have compiled the list of verified fundraises for people
- 5:47Speaker 1: impacted by the fires. Spc ALA's Disaster Animal Response Team.
- 5:53Speaker 1: They're looking for donations to support emergency services, temporary animal shelters,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and front line and veterinary care.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Mom was watching the TikTok and.
- 6:05Speaker 3: She was like this, this is on the talk. She's on
- 6:07Speaker 3: the top talk.
- 6:08Speaker 2: She was like, look at these firefighters. They're saving animals.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And it's like I'm like, babe, that's AIS. Not watch
- 6:17Speaker 2: but then no comment. I went into the comments section.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Actually most people did believe it. There were only like
- 6:24Speaker 2: two people that were like, guys, it's AI.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Well did you see everybody that thought that the Hollywood
- 6:27Speaker 4: sign was on fire?
- 6:28Speaker 5: Because did you see the AI?
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it was in flames, and people are like it's gone,
- 6:33Speaker 4: and then other people are like, it's right here.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I don't like AI, you guys, what's so crazy?
- 6:39Speaker 5: Is work near it?
- 6:40Speaker 6: And I saw the Hollywood Sign on fire and I
- 6:42Speaker 6: was like, it's got to be real.
- 6:43Speaker 5: It's got to be and I had to wait till
- 6:47Speaker 5: the next lot. Yeah, it was so crazy, anything was possible.
- 6:53Speaker 1: The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation is accepting donations to
- 6:57Speaker 1: support firefighters on the front lines. The found is seeking
- 7:00Speaker 1: monetary donations wildland brush tools, hydration backpacks, and emergency fire shelters.
- 7:07Speaker 1: The California Fire Foundation is looking for donations. The Salvation
- 7:10Speaker 1: Army World Central Kitchen that's spearheaded by chef Jose Andres.
- 7:16Speaker 1: He has a relief team in southern California to assist
- 7:19Speaker 1: first responders in their families. The Los Angeles Regional Food
- 7:23Speaker 1: Bank Direct Relief is also accepting donations Community Organized Relief Effort.
- 7:28Speaker 1: All of these links, you guys, are going to be
- 7:31Speaker 1: posted on the video. As far as mental health resources,
- 7:36Speaker 1: Los Angeles County Access Center will put that phone number
- 7:39Speaker 1: up nine to eight eight Suicide and Crisis Hotline you
- 7:43Speaker 1: can call or text them. That'll be posted California Department
- 7:47Speaker 1: of Public Health, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Resources.
- 7:52Speaker 2: All of these again are going.
- 7:53Speaker 1: To be posted on the video that also comes out
- 7:56Speaker 1: today on YouTube. I'll make sure on my Instagram at
- 8:00Speaker 1: Give Them La La Pod will.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Post all of it.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So I wanted to talk about good hearts in the
- 8:06Speaker 1: world right because we don't see them, I feel as
- 8:10Speaker 1: much as we should. They're definitely highlighted on the news.
- 8:14Speaker 1: When you watch the news, you see great people who
- 8:17Speaker 1: have come together and they're doing their thing. A lot
- 8:20Speaker 1: of us don't watch the news anymore. We only get
- 8:23Speaker 1: our news from social media platforms, and you go into
- 8:27Speaker 1: the comments section and it is a cesspool of people
- 8:32Speaker 1: who are just not that kind. It's okay, I'm not
- 8:35Speaker 1: going to judge them. I'm going to leave it at that.
- 8:37Speaker 1: But I asked people on Instagram some stories, so I'm
- 8:41Speaker 1: going to read some of those while I do that. Easton,
- 8:44Speaker 1: can you tell me a time that you were meeting
- 8:47Speaker 1: someone and they showed up for you?
- 8:49Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 8:51Speaker 6: When Dad passed, Okay, I had Alec Russin and Taylor
- 8:56Speaker 6: Apcood and I will say their names because they saved.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Me because we say them all all the time.
- 9:01Speaker 6: But yes, those two after Dad passed and I found
- 9:04Speaker 6: him in the morning, I because Mom and you you
- 9:10Speaker 6: wanted to be at the grand and then you guys
- 9:13Speaker 6: left and I was just there and Taylor and Alex
- 9:16Speaker 6: slept over at the house for.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Like two weeks straight.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Yeah, as I was like waking up in night terrors
- 9:22Speaker 6: and they'd wake up with me. Yeah.
- 9:25Speaker 5: So they were the ones who good people.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 5: They yeah, pulled through.
- 9:30Speaker 6: I mean Alex took work off and to just help
- 9:34Speaker 6: me and yeah just be Yeah, even if I was
- 9:37Speaker 6: just sitting there, they were just there, you know blank
- 9:40Speaker 6: stare so yes, And I'm glad that we did this
- 9:43Speaker 6: podcast because I.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Kind of forgot about it. You know, well use time
- 9:47Speaker 5: goes on. Yeah, but yeah, no, they showed up for you.
- 9:50Speaker 5: I love that.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Do you have a time planned?
- 9:53Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean after my my parents split, I was
- 9:56Speaker 4: twelve and you know, just a very very rough time,
- 10:01Speaker 4: rough for my parents as well, and unfortunately, I think,
- 10:05Speaker 4: you know, more common than not, but the kids kind
- 10:07Speaker 4: of get forgotten about in the whole thing of it.
- 10:10Speaker 4: You know, my parents are great, I love them, but
- 10:13Speaker 4: they were going through a tough time. But just my community,
- 10:16Speaker 4: you know, my teachers at school really took extra time
- 10:18Speaker 4: with me to you know, to make sure I was okay.
- 10:19Speaker 4: I remember those conversations, you know, them keeping me after
- 10:22Speaker 4: class and checking in, you know, making sure I was good.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Other people in my community making sure you know, I
- 10:27Speaker 4: still stayed active in like sports and things like that,
- 10:30Speaker 4: so that I wasn't just following.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Off sitting at home and emotions.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Unfortunately, I saw other people. I had a couple other
- 10:37Speaker 4: close friends that all within the same year our parents split, and.
- 10:43Speaker 3: You know, not one had.
- 10:46Speaker 4: A good community support system as well, and he's turned
- 10:48Speaker 4: out great.
- 10:49Speaker 3: The other did not.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And he's the other one.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You I'm just.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Kidding, But the other one he's been you know, he
- 10:55Speaker 4: went to drugs and he's been in and out of prison.
- 10:56Speaker 4: And I think, you know, with good support team is
- 11:00Speaker 4: without that, I could have gone down that same exact past.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 4: And they didn't need to do that, right, They didn't
- 11:07Speaker 4: need to come and take that extra time, but they did.
- 11:10Speaker 1: They did it because they have good hearts. I think
- 11:14Speaker 1: for me, it was when dad passed away and I
- 11:17Speaker 1: was very deep into the bottle and we came out
- 11:22Speaker 1: to Utah for his wake and people who I haven't
- 11:27Speaker 1: seen in years, who just you know, even from high school,
- 11:31Speaker 1: where it was like you're here right now, And it
- 11:34Speaker 1: also made me open my eyes like, wow, I need
- 11:36Speaker 1: to show up a little bit harder for people, because
- 11:40Speaker 1: people can look very strong and on the inside they're crumbling, and.
- 11:44Speaker 4: It's the little things through hard times, like check in,
- 11:48Speaker 4: send the text, yeah, call somebody like don't just you know,
- 11:52Speaker 4: I know we talked about last week that people, you know,
- 11:54Speaker 4: once the news stops covering it, it's the long term
- 11:57Speaker 4: stuff like continue to check in. I'm glad you said
- 11:59Speaker 4: like a mental health resource on that list, because I
- 12:03Speaker 4: think what people think about the physical destruction, but for teenagers,
- 12:07Speaker 4: for little kids, for anybody really, but the trauma that
- 12:12Speaker 4: people went through during oh this is going that is
- 12:13Speaker 4: going to be a long term effect and check in
- 12:15Speaker 4: on those people.
- 12:16Speaker 5: It's going to be a battle. Well. Not her mom,
- 12:19Speaker 5: my mom's mom, me me.
- 12:21Speaker 6: She lost her home in a fire when she was
- 12:24Speaker 6: young and we were talking about it and it still
- 12:28Speaker 6: impacted her through my mom being alive, and it was
- 12:30Speaker 6: before that.
- 12:31Speaker 5: So it's incredible what this devastation can do.
- 12:35Speaker 4: My oldest sister McCall, she was living in Florida for
- 12:40Speaker 4: a year doing a year of college out there at
- 12:42Speaker 4: my grandparents when a tornado came through and destroyed my grandparents' home.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Terrible thing, but it struck it. I think like three
- 12:50Speaker 4: thirty seven or something in the morning, and for years years,
- 12:55Speaker 4: my sister would wake up at that hour every single
- 12:57Speaker 4: night because of the trauma. Of course, you know, I'm
- 13:00Speaker 4: good night tre for the people in the palace heads.
- 13:02Speaker 4: It was a nighttime thing for the people in Altadina,
- 13:04Speaker 4: you know. I mean, it's those effects will be long lasting.
- 13:09Speaker 4: And get the help you need. Don't be afraid to
- 13:11Speaker 4: get the help. And also if you know somebody that
- 13:13Speaker 4: you think could use it, encourage them be a help.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Not just money either. It's take care of your brain.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Right, yeah, because I hope, and I just hope a
- 13:23Speaker 6: lot of people that have lost things keep their mental
- 13:26Speaker 6: and I hope a lot of people make it easy
- 13:29Speaker 6: for them to keep their mental Like with all the
- 13:32Speaker 6: loss that they've had, the last.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Thing you want to do is go down a darker route, right,
- 13:37Speaker 5: you know. And that's the thing. It's like, we were
- 13:40Speaker 5: going to be in.
- 13:41Speaker 7: A very tough situation for the next five to ten
- 13:44Speaker 7: years plus, and it's very big to keep everybody mentally
- 13:50Speaker 7: saying and not go down the path of you've lost everything.
- 13:54Speaker 5: Why am I here?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, you're absolutely right.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So I had a lot of people write in and
- 14:00Speaker 1: these are I said, big, big or small? Because even
- 14:04Speaker 1: something small could be something huge, right, Hey, a dollar.
- 14:08Speaker 5: From everybody in this country would be in an enormous.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But even like land in set a text friends bringing
- 14:14Speaker 1: meals over after my three week hospitalization a premium nick
- 14:17Speaker 1: you two and a half months.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Isn't it wild?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Where it's like someone just showing up to be like
- 14:24Speaker 1: anything you need, You need a meal, you need a
- 14:28Speaker 1: phone call, that's just like, hey, let me vent and
- 14:31Speaker 1: just like you being a soundboard for me makes all
- 14:33Speaker 1: the difference.
- 14:34Speaker 5: And those meals taste the best home cooked meals. Wow,
- 14:40Speaker 5: you cared for me, you thought of me. This food
- 14:44Speaker 5: really tastes great.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:46Speaker 1: House fire summer before senior year and the church community
- 14:49Speaker 1: helped dogs clothes housing. There were a lot of people
- 14:53Speaker 1: that wrote in about experiencing their houses burning down and
- 14:57Speaker 1: how their community a lot of people saying the church
- 15:01Speaker 1: that they were a part of really stepped up to
- 15:03Speaker 1: the play. And I think that that's amazing that, you know,
- 15:08Speaker 1: it's times like that were your community maybe people that
- 15:11Speaker 1: you didn't.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Expect to show up for you.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's like, Wow, Jan from three houses down, who I've
- 15:17Speaker 1: said three words too, is like really showing or.
- 15:21Speaker 5: I'm sleeping in her basement right now.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:25Speaker 1: My fiance gifted me his geep because I couldn't afford
- 15:28Speaker 1: to buy a new car, very kind. My marriage fell apart,
- 15:33Speaker 1: my best friend came and stayed the night with me.
- 15:35Speaker 1: That goes back to what you were talking about Easton.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Isn't it wild what someone's just mere presence? Oh, it's
- 15:41Speaker 1: just for your mental.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Health, that's the thing. And like I would just blank
- 15:45Speaker 5: stare at the TV.
- 15:47Speaker 6: It was on, but right like I just wasn't there,
- 15:50Speaker 6: and I could feel my emotions start and like everything
- 15:53Speaker 6: starting to just melt and like just anxiety starting. And
- 15:57Speaker 6: I would look left and I would see the two
- 15:59Speaker 6: people or somebody that was taking the time, and just
- 16:03Speaker 6: looking at them would reset me right.
- 16:05Speaker 5: And at least that and then yes, you didn't have
- 16:08Speaker 5: to talk.
- 16:08Speaker 6: Didn't have to talk. I didn't have to say anything.
- 16:10Speaker 6: Just looking over at them and just seeing them even
- 16:13Speaker 6: scrolling their phone, I knew it was like, Okay, things
- 16:17Speaker 6: are normal.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I feel for this person because.
- 16:23Speaker 1: After Dad passed away, I always hated the night coming
- 16:27Speaker 1: because it meant everybody was going to go to bed
- 16:30Speaker 1: and shut down and I was going to feel alone
- 16:33Speaker 1: and having mom and you that was great, but it's
- 16:38Speaker 1: like you guys are also very vulnerable.
- 16:41Speaker 6: I'm gonna tell you, did you not feel And I
- 16:43Speaker 6: know it sounds weird, but I felt like when we
- 16:45Speaker 6: were together it was great, but like when I was
- 16:48Speaker 6: going down a terrible anxiety or depression.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Moved from this situation.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Yeah, but you and Mom couldn't help because I'd look
- 16:56Speaker 6: at you and it's like, what help are you going
- 16:57Speaker 6: to give me?
- 16:58Speaker 5: We're in the same boat sinking. I need somebody else
- 17:01Speaker 5: over here.
- 17:01Speaker 6: Really, So like that, when Mom went to la I
- 17:04Speaker 6: was like, I cannot because I will crumble.
- 17:07Speaker 5: So I had like, well, we did crumble.
- 17:09Speaker 2: We we would go through a bottle of champagne.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And then we realized when we would go to Ralph's
- 17:14Speaker 1: the genius idea of why.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Don't we each just get our own? Why don't we
- 17:18Speaker 2: each get too?
- 17:20Speaker 5: All we can say is it got you through it right?
- 17:23Speaker 5: I don't know is when you're dealing with heartache and.
- 17:27Speaker 2: You do the best you can, every emotion.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Size bottles to another level. You were like, let's just
- 17:32Speaker 5: get the big one. Lauren loved falling downstairs.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Literally, and.
- 17:41Speaker 1: My boss bought me a last minute ticket home to
- 17:45Speaker 1: Alaska from North Carolina to say goodbye to my dad.
- 17:48Speaker 1: That is the nicest thing. Plane tickets are so beyond expensive.
- 17:53Speaker 5: That's a distance too, and.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You literally plan you don't expect a parent or a
- 17:58Speaker 1: loved one to pass away, right, And you kind of
- 18:02Speaker 1: go through your year and you're like, Okay, I'm going
- 18:03Speaker 1: to go home for Christmas, so I save my money
- 18:07Speaker 1: to go home for Christmas. And most people they either
- 18:09Speaker 1: go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas, like they don't do
- 18:13Speaker 1: both because flights are expensive.
- 18:15Speaker 5: That was really people to say that though they just
- 18:17Speaker 5: don't want to see their family twice.
- 18:19Speaker 1: We're back, We're back on they give them all a
- 18:23Speaker 1: podcast The.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Shade, But no, it really it's incredible.
- 18:26Speaker 6: But also to be noticed, like you have to be
- 18:31Speaker 6: a very decent employee, I feel like as well, so
- 18:34Speaker 6: she's an amazing employee.
- 18:36Speaker 5: I'm glad that her boss could do that because now
- 18:38Speaker 5: you feel like you're scene as well. You know you're valued, Yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 5: you know they care about you. Yes, So that's yes,
- 18:46Speaker 5: good to both of them on that well.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And people just it goes back to what moms taught
- 18:52Speaker 1: us forever, and sometimes you don't do it in the
- 18:55Speaker 1: moment but as long as you learn from it where
- 18:58Speaker 1: it's like shoe on the other foot in this moment,
- 19:01Speaker 1: what would I want someone to do for me? How
- 19:04Speaker 1: would I want someone to respond to me right now?
- 19:08Speaker 1: And I feel like there's a lot of times that
- 19:10Speaker 1: we don't do that. There's been many times where I
- 19:12Speaker 1: don't do that, and I look back and I'm like,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I would not have appreciated if the roles are reversed
- 19:17Speaker 1: and someone said what I just said or did what.
- 19:20Speaker 5: I just did.
- 19:21Speaker 6: One thing that mom stuck with that, she said that
- 19:23Speaker 6: stuck with me is treat people how you would like
- 19:26Speaker 6: to be treated.
- 19:29Speaker 2: That sounds golden. And a rule is that gold rule.
- 19:33Speaker 4: That that's like that sounds like a Michael Scott quote
- 19:35Speaker 4: when he's like when he's like, what's what's he says
- 19:37Speaker 4: like he says some quote and then it's Michael Scott,
- 19:39Speaker 4: Wayne Gretzky, you know, treat people you want to be treated,
- 19:43Speaker 4: at least at Burningham Jesus, Yes, yes, pretty.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Much, Yeah, exactly right.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Stuck in Kenya airport credit card canceled due to fraud.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Oh and it stranger bought my flight home.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Wow, did you add that's.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That is another level.
- 20:07Speaker 3: I hope you've kept in contact, stranger.
- 20:10Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's an acquaintance. Now. That was not cheap.
- 20:17Speaker 4: That is I'm sending them a Christmas gift every year
- 20:20Speaker 4: for rest of my life.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, for real, that is so kind.
- 20:24Speaker 1: But even that like pay it forward, where like you're
- 20:26Speaker 1: going through a drive through and you're like, I want
- 20:28Speaker 1: to pay for the person behind me is.
- 20:30Speaker 6: The person who paid for the plane ticket? What if
- 20:33Speaker 6: they were in the same boat and somebody random.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Did it on the other foot, and maybe it's really
- 20:38Speaker 1: happened to him, but maybe he was sitting there being like,
- 20:40Speaker 1: you know what, I can only imagine what this girl
- 20:42Speaker 1: is going through.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I can absolutely afford to do this for.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Her, or maybe he can and he just wanted to
- 20:47Speaker 1: be a good person or she, But regardless.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Very fucking, very grand deed.
- 20:56Speaker 2: This one is a long one.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I also want to say a lot of you guys
- 20:58Speaker 1: because these but these can get long. When I ask
- 21:01Speaker 1: you for something so heartfelt, you're like, I get that.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It's like you can't fit it all in one thing.
- 21:06Speaker 1: You can send a DM and I can screenshot them,
- 21:09Speaker 1: or send a DM, screenshot it and then send it.
- 21:11Speaker 1: That's what this person did. My grandmother and I were
- 21:14Speaker 1: very close during her final days with terminal cancer. I
- 21:17Speaker 1: would travel between LA and San Francisco every week for
- 21:20Speaker 1: about three months. I'd arrive from San Francisco in LA
- 21:23Speaker 1: at six am on Mondays and head straight to my
- 21:25Speaker 1: job at an LA agency, where I worked in the
- 21:28Speaker 1: mailroom for just seven dollars per hour. Even though we
- 21:32Speaker 1: both earned very little. My coworker slash gusband would buy
- 21:37Speaker 1: me a large Starbucks coffee and leave it on my
- 21:39Speaker 1: desk every Monday morning. I know it sounds silly, It doesn't,
- 21:43Speaker 1: by the way, but this small act of kindness meant
- 21:46Speaker 1: a lot to me. He had to work for an
- 21:47Speaker 1: hour just to buy that coffee. Ten years later, they
- 21:51Speaker 1: are still in the best gusband in psycho bitch marriage.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Wow oh same them?
- 21:57Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, yeah good, I relate, No, but that really
- 22:01Speaker 6: is because when I was in Utah and I was
- 22:03Speaker 6: working my nine to five, yeah, like I would go
- 22:07Speaker 6: into my office and like very rarely, like somebody would
- 22:11Speaker 6: bring me a coffee and like just like a coffee
- 22:13Speaker 6: for you, just somebody in the office that we were
- 22:15Speaker 6: close with.
- 22:15Speaker 5: But I would do it for people as well.
- 22:17Speaker 6: But it was just crazy to see, like it was
- 22:20Speaker 6: nice to have like a coffee.
- 22:21Speaker 2: You're like, oh, okay, let me tell you that's a
- 22:23Speaker 2: love language.
- 22:24Speaker 5: No, that is? That is I mean, well even you know.
- 22:26Speaker 4: It was supposed to start my new job, right yeah,
- 22:29Speaker 4: on the thirteenth and Saturday Eastern, and I had stayed
- 22:32Speaker 4: up pretty much all night because we're seeing the flames
- 22:35Speaker 4: they coming up over the mountain and we're like they
- 22:37Speaker 4: cut the news at once, like, what the hell is
- 22:39Speaker 4: going on?
- 22:40Speaker 5: We see the fire? Is it coming? The evac zone
- 22:43Speaker 5: is like two blocks from We're laying in bed just
- 22:45Speaker 5: not sleeping and talking.
- 22:47Speaker 1: You know.
- 22:47Speaker 4: It took a drive at what like three, and we
- 22:48Speaker 4: see all the police cars blocking it off and getting
- 22:51Speaker 4: people out of there, very bright, and so we didn't
- 22:55Speaker 4: really sleep. And so I text the my new boss,
- 22:58Speaker 4: who I'm supposed to start for in two days, and
- 22:59Speaker 4: I'm like, hey, I don't know what's going on, Like
- 23:03Speaker 4: can can we push the start date? And just him
- 23:05Speaker 4: responding being like this is their start date. It's like
- 23:08Speaker 4: the least to the of our concerns, like take care
- 23:10Speaker 4: of you, make sure you're good. He's like a few
- 23:13Speaker 4: days isn't going to affect anything like just we'll figure
- 23:17Speaker 4: it out, you know, and like he you know, he's like,
- 23:19Speaker 4: don't worry about it, and taking.
- 23:20Speaker 3: That worry off of the weight off of you as.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I'm already worrying about all this other stuff Like that
- 23:25Speaker 4: meant a lot to me. And it also going back
- 23:26Speaker 4: to the person who the boss flew them out, you know,
- 23:29Speaker 4: to see there, to see their parent before they passed.
- 23:31Speaker 4: But for me, it's like even before starting this job,
- 23:34Speaker 4: I'm like, Okay, there's respect he've got. Like it's not
- 23:36Speaker 4: like nope, you've got to start like I don't give
- 23:38Speaker 4: a shit.
- 23:38Speaker 6: You know.
- 23:39Speaker 2: It's like were you directly that did you? Did you
- 23:44Speaker 2: have to evacuate it, or were you impacted?
- 23:48Speaker 5: No?
- 23:49Speaker 2: But people that I love and just the place that
- 23:52Speaker 2: I call home.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I just feel like there's other things we could worry about, right,
- 23:56Speaker 1: So I feel like it's going to be that's a
- 23:59Speaker 1: great start.
- 24:00Speaker 2: A bad start, but a great start too.
- 24:03Speaker 4: I said, we're just getting all the bad for the
- 24:05Speaker 4: year outright at the beginning, so it's just good from here.
- 24:09Speaker 5: So that's why I have that I'd rather have the
- 24:12Speaker 5: bad news first, give it to me.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Do you want the good news or the bad?
- 24:17Speaker 5: News.
- 24:17Speaker 1: First, I'm like, it's bad, bad, What do you mean
- 24:20Speaker 1: You want to put me on a high and then
- 24:22Speaker 1: drop me thirty thousand feet?
- 24:24Speaker 2: No, thank you?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Drop me thirty thousand Yeah, I.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Will get to thirty.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Butteen, this one's really sweet. I teach my aunt tragically
- 24:36Speaker 1: passed away. My teammate did my lesson plans for two weeks.
- 24:40Speaker 1: As a teacher, you can't just take off. This helped
- 24:43Speaker 1: me so much, take off and grieve. The reason why
- 24:46Speaker 1: some of these may you may be thinking while I
- 24:49Speaker 1: can't read this is true, but also because you have
- 24:52Speaker 1: to compact them into such a small space, which is
- 24:54Speaker 1: why I encourage the d to just DM and send them.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But I love you guys.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Writing it after that is huge because teachers do.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Not get Teachers should be a year.
- 25:07Speaker 5: I think I've said it.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I've said it a million times.
- 25:10Speaker 1: How the is Lebron James making so much money dribbling
- 25:13Speaker 1: a basketball but teachers who are responsible for our future,
- 25:19Speaker 1: these children will be the ones that go on to
- 25:22Speaker 1: make a difference in our world.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Pay them thirty. It's just.
- 25:28Speaker 3: How do we bump that up?
- 25:34Speaker 1: After a domestic violence situation, someone from church as a
- 25:37Speaker 1: kid took me in until I got an apartment.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Huge.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I think anytime someone offers up their home a safe
- 25:45Speaker 1: space and and has someone else come in is like
- 25:49Speaker 1: the most incredible human on the planet because that is
- 25:56Speaker 1: as someone who adores their home. And I'm very and
- 25:59Speaker 1: I'm not saying that this person has bad energy. I'm
- 26:02Speaker 1: saying anytime you have someone new come into the house
- 26:05Speaker 1: and it's an extended period of time and you don't know,
- 26:09Speaker 1: you know what the future holds, how long they'll be there.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And this is me talking very selfishly, just a little
- 26:16Speaker 1: bit coming off, and I'm aware of it.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I don't think it's coming off.
- 26:19Speaker 1: So anybody who says you are welcome at my home,
- 26:23Speaker 1: I'm like, that's a good freaking person.
- 26:26Speaker 5: It's a great person.
- 26:27Speaker 4: And also one thing that I have learned over the
- 26:30Speaker 4: last like two years that I've been working on. But
- 26:34Speaker 4: if somebody's offering you something and I don't really like
- 26:37Speaker 4: to accept things, it's hard for me. It's really tough
- 26:40Speaker 4: for me to receive. I love to give, okay, have
- 26:42Speaker 4: to give. I hate to receive a weird thing. It's
- 26:44Speaker 4: like I love giving the people, but I read if
- 26:48Speaker 4: you don't accept something like it feels good to give,
- 26:50Speaker 4: and if you say no, you're taking away that good
- 26:54Speaker 4: feeling from that person who's trying to.
- 26:55Speaker 5: Give to you.
- 26:56Speaker 3: So accept it. Don't feel bad about accepting it.
- 26:58Speaker 4: If they're offering it, if they're offering to bring you food,
- 27:00Speaker 4: if they're offering you a place, take it now. Don't
- 27:04Speaker 4: take advantage of it, but take it, you know, take
- 27:08Speaker 4: it and let them be generous to you, and in
- 27:11Speaker 4: turn let them have that good deed. Let them have
- 27:14Speaker 4: that good deed because you like to do it, and
- 27:16Speaker 4: then in turn later on remember that and do good
- 27:19Speaker 4: for somebody else.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I think a lot of people have a hard time
- 27:23Speaker 1: receiving because they.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Don't want to feel in need.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Like or like they're indebted to somebody, like because I
- 27:31Speaker 1: did this.
- 27:32Speaker 2: For you, you then owe me.
- 27:34Speaker 6: And what's so crazy, though, is your giving and your giving.
- 27:37Speaker 6: I like to think I'm giving as well, but like
- 27:39Speaker 6: every time your guys are giving, I never feel indebted.
- 27:43Speaker 5: I still don't like you.
- 27:44Speaker 3: See, I'm keeping a list. I've got a list.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Well, what you just said reminded me of Joey Tribiani
- 27:52Speaker 1: when he's thinking of what he's going to say in
- 27:54Speaker 1: his speech. When Monica and Chandler get made. He's like,
- 27:57Speaker 1: it's about giving and receiving, and when you give and
- 28:00Speaker 1: then you receive, you're constantly giving a lot.
- 28:07Speaker 5: Of that stuff like that.
- 28:10Speaker 1: No, I think anyone opening their home amazing. I opened
- 28:13Speaker 1: my home to YouTube fools.
- 28:15Speaker 5: We're going to get the hell out. I'm just kidding.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I'm just kidding. I'm trying to lie rightness.
- 28:20Speaker 4: The likeness the list of law has on us is
- 28:23Speaker 4: it's getting bigger and bigger every day.
- 28:25Speaker 2: I don't keep a list.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Oh okay, I only I The only time I the
- 28:30Speaker 1: only time I use a list of everything that I've
- 28:33Speaker 1: done is when I want to force you guys to
- 28:35Speaker 1: spend more time with me. And like I did this,
- 28:40Speaker 1: get upstairs and watch a movie with me.
- 28:43Speaker 5: And there we are.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I'm a, I'm a. I like time. I love time together.
- 28:47Speaker 3: She's like, you've only spent eighteen hours to day with me.
- 28:49Speaker 5: I need a few more.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I need the day's not over.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I got diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and my
- 28:56Speaker 1: coworkers all made me food, the comfort.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Of all things, comfort food.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I love this.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I was in a really bad car accident a few
- 29:04Speaker 1: years ago and was trapped in my car. An old
- 29:07Speaker 1: man who saw the accident manage to get in and
- 29:10Speaker 1: sit next to me and just held my hand and
- 29:12Speaker 1: comforted me until I was eventually cut out of my car.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Wow, incredible that I'm going to tell you right now.
- 29:19Speaker 6: I get claustrophobic, I get a whole lot of things,
- 29:22Speaker 6: And if it would have just been me sitting in there,
- 29:24Speaker 6: I would have.
- 29:25Speaker 5: Had a pancy.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Your mind runs wild, and if there's just a person
- 29:28Speaker 1: who's willing to sit there and take your mind off
- 29:30Speaker 1: of what's going on. I mean, I love reading these
- 29:34Speaker 1: because I feel like in times like we're in right now,
- 29:38Speaker 1: we need to talk about people who like still make
- 29:41Speaker 1: a difference.
- 29:42Speaker 2: One infertility.
- 29:44Speaker 1: After spending forty five thousand dollars on IVF five times
- 29:48Speaker 1: and seven EUIs, my mom helped us adopt our two
- 29:51Speaker 1: boys by pulling from her retirement.
- 29:53Speaker 2: She wanted babies just as bad as we did. Oh, Mama,
- 29:57Speaker 2: the mama always pulls through.
- 30:00Speaker 5: Hey, if a mom can be a grandma, it's.
- 30:04Speaker 1: It's like a different form of love, mom said. I
- 30:07Speaker 1: asked her, what what does it mean to you to like?
- 30:10Speaker 1: What is the feeling that you get? She's like, I
- 30:12Speaker 1: can't describe it. It would be like trying to describe
- 30:16Speaker 1: the love a mom has to someone who hasn't yet experienced.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Being a mom if they want to be a mom.
- 30:23Speaker 2: She was like, you can't explain it.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what she told me.
- 30:26Speaker 6: She was like, the love I have for Ocean is
- 30:28Speaker 6: just very different, yeah, but very Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I loved all of those.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I want to thank you guys for writing in and
- 30:35Speaker 1: participating in our bonus episode. There were a lot of
- 30:39Speaker 1: people who wrote in and that makes me extremely extremely grateful.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I love you guys.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Thank you for tuning into another episode to give.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Them La La bonus episode. Landy, thank you for it
- 30:50Speaker 2: was fun having.
- 30:51Speaker 5: Thank you for having me.
- 30:52Speaker 3: It was fun to be here. Go give, go, help
- 30:55Speaker 3: do something.
- 30:55Speaker 1: So amen, Amen, Easton, thank you for showing up again.
- 31:00Speaker 1: You guys have the best week on the planet. I
- 31:03Speaker 1: love you and I'm gonna catch you on Wednesday.
- 31:05Speaker 5: Bye bye,
