- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. Hello, Big
- 0:12Speaker 1: Blue Nation. Welcome to Just the Cats. My name is
- 0:16Speaker 1: Michael Bennett on this Thursday, Justin Kalen's birthday. Yeah, woo-hoo!
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's my birthday. Oh, my gosh. I've never heard a
- 0:27Speaker 1: person celebrate themselves more than you in my life.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Look, Michael.
- 0:30Speaker 1: And I love it.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You only get so many birthdays. You might as well
- 0:33Speaker 3: make the most of every one of them.
- 0:35Speaker 1: You think so? Okay, good.
- 0:36Speaker 3: You never know when it might be your last. That
- 0:38Speaker 3: is true. My gosh, that is true. The older I get,
- 0:42Speaker 3: the closer I am to it. But you never know
- 0:45Speaker 3: when it's going to be.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I mean, you're right. I've done a lot of dumb
- 0:47Speaker 1: stuff in my life that it's like, how the heck
- 0:50Speaker 1: am I still alive? I mean, I've been thrown off horses.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Horses fall on top of me. Accidents. I mean, I've
- 0:58Speaker 1: been thrown off a four-wheeler. I still can't believe Michael
- 1:02Speaker 1: Bennett is alive. So I've done stupid stuff in boats.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You name it, I have done it. I jumped on
- 1:10Speaker 1: a shark one time. What? Oh, I absolutely did.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:14Speaker 1: Didn't know I did. I didn't know I did. And
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm like, when did my foot hit? All right, hold on.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Time out. Rewind.
- 1:21Speaker 3: We need to hear the origins of this story.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I was in the Bahamas and I was jumping in
- 1:26Speaker 1: the water and somebody said, don't, don't, don't. And I
- 1:29Speaker 1: jumped in and there was a shark right there off
- 1:32Speaker 1: the boat. Yeah. It swam off. Thank goodness.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah. No, it was, it was, and I'm like, come on, dude,
- 1:38Speaker 1: it really was not. And the captain even came down
- 1:41Speaker 1: and says, yeah, that was a shark. That's pretty crazy.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I don't think it was a big one or anything
- 1:46Speaker 1: like that. It was probably three feet, four feet. So
- 1:48Speaker 1: no big deal. Hmm. Yeah, I scared it off.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Anyway, there you go. Yeah, I, Michael Bennett, have done
- 1:54Speaker 1: stupid stuff all my life, just to let you know.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Proud of it, some of it, no, I'm not proud
- 1:59Speaker 1: of it. Proud of it. Anyway, but yeah, you never
- 2:03Speaker 1: know when you're going to celebrate your last one, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: good for you for celebrating yours like it is your
- 2:07Speaker 1: last one, because you're right. That's the way you should.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You should celebrate every day like it's your last day. Absolutely.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I try to. Yeah. Do you really?
- 2:14Speaker 4: I try.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't always succeed with that. It just flies by, though.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now, I can't believe how old
- 2:21Speaker 1: I am, because it's like, there's no way I'm that age.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Happens quick. It does. Yeah. Happy birthday to you. I
- 2:29Speaker 1: hope you have a nice one today. Did you have
- 2:30Speaker 1: a nice time last night?
- 2:31Speaker 4: I did.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I ate lots of sushi. Probably too much sushi. Really?
- 2:35Speaker 1: Got a giant big old cookie as my dessert. Got
- 2:38Speaker 1: it for free. Oh, really?
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So, yeah, no, we had a great time. It was awesome. Yeah. Well,
- 2:44Speaker 1: last week, Mason took me out in New York. And
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know how the people sometimes come up and sing
- 2:51Speaker 1: to you?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Did they? I asked them not to. Come on. And
- 2:56Speaker 1: they still did it.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 1: It was fine. I don't know. I don't like that
- 3:00Speaker 1: kind of attention. It was kind of cool, though. There
- 3:02Speaker 1: were two girls that were sitting next to us. It
- 3:04Speaker 1: was their birthday, too. And they were twins from L.A.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That's fun. Which was kind of fun. Yeah. So we
- 3:10Speaker 1: celebrated our birthdays together. But, yeah. I didn't look up
- 3:13Speaker 1: who you celebrate your birthday with. What celebrities?
- 3:16Speaker 3: I think I've looked this up before, and I don't
- 3:18Speaker 3: think there's many good ones.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Oh, really? No.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I remember being very underwhelmed. With who I shared a
- 3:26Speaker 3: birthday with. Let's see if I can find it.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Usher.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Usher.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, wait. That was yesterday. Oh, shoot. Okay.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I mean, it's very underwhelming.
- 3:35Speaker 2: It is?
- 3:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Keisha Cole. Who's that? Exactly. Okay. I mean, I don't.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Here you go. Are you ready? Yeah. Emeril Lagasse. Don't
- 3:45Speaker 1: know who that is.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Oh, come on.
- 3:47Speaker 1: He's the famous chef from New Orleans. He's on the.
- 3:50Speaker 1: In fact, I believe he is bored over here at
- 3:53Speaker 1: Sullivan College. I do know. Yeah, Bailey Madison. No idea.
- 3:58Speaker 1: She's an actress. She was in Pretty Little Liars, Original Sin,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and Good Witch. I have no idea. You said Keisha Cole.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I never heard of her.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Anthony Joshua. He shares a birthday with me. Heavyweight boxer, yes.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Mesut Ozil, who played for my favorite soccer team, Bayern Munich, for.
- 4:15Speaker 1: A few years. Okay, good for you. I have no
- 4:17Speaker 1: idea who that is. He looks like a frog. Okay.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You got Paul Walter Hauser. whoever that is whoever that
- 4:25Speaker 1: is yeah sebastian yatra a latin pop singer oh that's
- 4:29Speaker 1: that's probably good and then you got babar azam international
- 4:33Speaker 1: cricketer yes heck yeah that is awesome right right there
- 4:38Speaker 1: alone that you should celebrate you and babar azam i
- 4:42Speaker 1: i'm shocked that i'm saying his name correct.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Lauren betts remember her from ucla she was a beast
- 4:48Speaker 3: oh really That's a good one to share a birthday with.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I don't know if she would like to be considered
- 4:51Speaker 3: a beast.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I think she would.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Really?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Because she is.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Okay.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, she's awesome.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Well, I think Emeril Lagasse is your famous one. That sucks.
- 5:01Speaker 1: See what I mean? That sucks. That's very underwhelming. I
- 5:04Speaker 1: don't know if Emeril Lagasse would appreciate that too much.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I don't really care if Emeril Lagasse cares about that
- 5:10Speaker 3: too much. I think he comes to the Derby every year.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Who's the other chef that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's really famous here. Bobby Flay. No, from here. Oh,
- 5:20Speaker 1: from Louisville? Yeah. Yeah, it's the Asian guy. I can't
- 5:24Speaker 1: think of his name. Oh, it's not what I'm thinking of. Oh,
- 5:27Speaker 1: it's not? He owns what? What's he own? 610 Magnolia. No.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I'm thinking of the guy that owns like River House,
- 5:33Speaker 3: or at least he used to. Brendan Sketch 23.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Anthony Lamas. Anthony Lawless. Anthony.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:39Speaker 1: It's something Anthony. Okay, I have no idea. He's on
- 5:41Speaker 1: Bar Rescue all the time. Oh, he is? Yeah. Anthony Lamas. Oh,
- 5:44Speaker 1: there you go. Good for you. I have no idea
- 5:47Speaker 1: who that is, but I'm glad you're celebrating that. So congratulations.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But the big plans for today are what?
- 5:55Speaker 3: Well, I was going to link up with my dad
- 5:57Speaker 3: for golf.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not looking good.
- 5:59Speaker 3: No, I mean, weather-wise, I think we'd be okay. But
- 6:02Speaker 3: he called this morning. He's dealing with a little bit
- 6:04Speaker 3: of an injury. No, what happened to your dad?
- 6:09Speaker 1: He woke up. He said his toe was hurting.
- 6:12Speaker 4: So.
- 6:13Speaker 1: What? His toe is hurt.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I don't know if he was just feeding me some
- 6:17Speaker 3: BS or if he's being serious, but we're not golfing today.
- 6:20Speaker 3: So I'm looking for maybe another person to link up
- 6:23Speaker 3: with so I can golf because that's all I want
- 6:25Speaker 3: to do on my birthday every year is I want
- 6:27Speaker 3: to play golf.
- 6:27Speaker 1: That sounds like gout. He may have mentioned that. Oh, okay.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I just didn't want to throw him under the bus. Oh, okay. Well,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I said it. You don't have to agree. So anyway,
- 6:38Speaker 1: the old guy's got some gout going on. That sucks. Anyway.
- 6:41Speaker 4: All right.
- 6:41Speaker 1: What else? Golf is a maybe. It's not great weather
- 6:45Speaker 1: today for that.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think the rain is moving out here shortly.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Really?
- 6:50Speaker 1: It's going to be cart path only. I can guarantee it.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Probably so.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You're going to have to walk everywhere. Maybe I'll go
- 6:56Speaker 3: play a par three. That'd probably be for the best.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Is there a par three around Louisville? There is one
- 7:00Speaker 1: in New Albany.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Really? Yep.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Maybe I'll go there. Do they have lights? Can you
- 7:04Speaker 3: play like all night long? No, but there was, that'd
- 7:07Speaker 3: be awesome.
- 7:07Speaker 1: There was one up in Northern Kentucky in Florence, right
- 7:10Speaker 1: off a 75, 71, 75 that had the lights on
- 7:14Speaker 1: it and you could go play at night. And when
- 7:16Speaker 1: I was a little kid, my sister took me cause
- 7:18Speaker 1: that's where her husband's from. So they lived up there
- 7:20Speaker 1: and she took me. It was a, it was a blast.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I do wish night golf was more of a thing. Really?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Yeah. I would love to go at like 10 o'clock
- 7:28Speaker 3: at night and just play.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I did in Scotland years ago, but it was still daylight.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It wasn't night golf.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I know night golf's pretty big over in Asia.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Oh, is it really? They play it a lot. I
- 7:40Speaker 1: didn't know that. Okay. All right, then.
- 7:43Speaker 3: But other than that, no, just watching baseball. I've got
- 7:45Speaker 3: to go over to the other station today, get a
- 7:47Speaker 3: little bit of work done.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So I'll have to do that at some point. What
- 7:50Speaker 1: about dinner tonight, though? Is your mom taking you out?
- 7:53Speaker 1: I don't think so. Where's mom? She took me out
- 7:57Speaker 1: on Monday. Oh, okay, she did. No, we did that
- 7:59Speaker 1: earlier this week. Okay.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I did have a texter during my show send me
- 8:02Speaker 3: a $ 37 Papa John's gift card, so maybe I'll just
- 8:06Speaker 3: fall out on some pizza tonight.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I didn't get a $ 37 Papa John. Well, they can't
- 8:13Speaker 1: afford you because you're older than 37. Oh, that's, oh,
- 8:17Speaker 1: I get it. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. No, you don't have to,
- 8:19Speaker 1: just give me $ 10.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Just drop 10 bucks off and I'll be good to go.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So I'm just kidding. I don't want to pilfer anything
- 8:26Speaker 1: right now, but $ 37. That's, that's, that's pricey right there.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Nice for you. I'm going to ball out. I'm telling you. $ 37.
- 8:32Speaker 3: What can you get at the old Peepa G? Oh,
- 8:37Speaker 3: I'll probably get some pizza, some breadsticks. Clearly, you're getting pizza.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I'll throw in a brownie, probably. Oh, they have brownies?
- 8:46Speaker 1: I didn't know that. Oh, yeah, good brownie. Get you
- 8:47Speaker 1: a little Diet Coke on top of that. Maybe so.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I might even snag a two-liter. I never get
- 8:51Speaker 3: a two-liter from pizza places.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Wow. But I got $ 37 to spend. Wow. All right,
- 8:56Speaker 1: so if you use it, because there are some places,
- 8:59Speaker 1: like if you go to UK as part of the
- 9:01Speaker 1: media for basketball, they give you a gift certificate to
- 9:05Speaker 1: go use at concession. Yeah, what, like $ 11? It's not much.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And then when you go use it and you don't
- 9:12Speaker 1: use all the money, you lose it. There's nothing more.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So it's like, I don't want anything else from here.
- 9:18Speaker 1: What can I do with another $ 5? You can't take
- 9:22Speaker 1: it to another one? No, you cannot. You lose it. Whoa.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You understood me correctly. It's the chintziest thing I've ever
- 9:28Speaker 1: seen in my life. You can only use that at
- 9:30Speaker 1: one concession stand. You are correct.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And if you don't use it all, you lose it.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So if I go buy a hot dog and a
- 9:38Speaker 1: drink and only use $ 10 of it, guess what? You
- 9:43Speaker 1: lose the rest. That's crazy. Isn't that the dumbest thing
- 9:46Speaker 1: in the world? That is dumb. First time I experienced that,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm like, are you serious?
- 9:50Speaker 3: I mean, what if you want like a hot dog
- 9:52Speaker 3: and then you want an ice cream and they're sold
- 9:53Speaker 3: at different places?
- 9:54Speaker 2: You can't do it.
- 9:54Speaker 1: They are sold at different places. So you're stuck. That's ridiculous.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'm right there with you. But I guess I should
- 10:02Speaker 1: be thankful, hey, I get a couple of things for free,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and I'm out of here.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and I guess if you wanted to
- 10:07Speaker 3: get an ice cream, it's probably, what, three, four bucks?
- 10:09Speaker 1: It's not too terribly much, but no offense to the
- 10:12Speaker 1: people that go nuts for that Rupp Arena ice cream. Oh, yeah,
- 10:14Speaker 1: you don't like it. I don't get it. I forgot. Yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's soft serve. What's the big deal? I know. So, anyway.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Speaking of basketball, we do have a few things to
- 10:26Speaker 1: talk about as far as that goes. By the way,
- 10:28Speaker 1: if you want to join us, 502-384-1450. You want to
- 10:31Speaker 1: text me on the Whiskey Thief text line. If you missed,
- 10:34Speaker 1: because you had all kinds of text messages. It was unbelievable. Yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 1: if you missed it, you can text here at 502-414-1450
- 10:41Speaker 1: on the Whiskey Thief text line. Mark Pope took stage
- 10:45Speaker 1: yesterday at the SEC Media Days for basketball. said he
- 10:51Speaker 1: is accepting the pressure just like he did as a player.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And the first thing I thought is, is that the
- 11:02Speaker 1: same kind of pressure? I mean, Pope doesn't believe it's different.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So my question to you, do you think the pressure
- 11:11Speaker 1: of being a head coach is the exact type of
- 11:14Speaker 1: pressure he had when he experienced being a player at UK?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Absolutely not. I don't think so either.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure it's comparable, but I don't know
- 11:25Speaker 3: that it's even particularly that close. I'm right there with
- 11:29Speaker 3: you because not only are you the pressure within yourself,
- 11:35Speaker 3: but you've got the pressure of your players performing. I
- 11:37Speaker 3: think it's completely different. So, for instance, I think the
- 11:44Speaker 3: pressure of coaching is far more difficult. because of the
- 11:49Speaker 3: fact that it's out of your control, at least you
- 11:52Speaker 3: can get in the game and try and have a response.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Whereas when you're the coach, when you're a fan, that pressure, granted,
- 12:00Speaker 3: fans don't have the pressure that a coach does, but
- 12:03Speaker 3: because that's their livelihood. So if they lose, you're not
- 12:06Speaker 3: going to lose the potential of losing your job or
- 12:08Speaker 3: your salary. But there is that pressure there. And I thought, no, no, no, no.
- 12:14Speaker 3: This is completely different. And I think it's, what, 15,
- 12:18Speaker 3: 20 times more pressure on a coach than there is
- 12:21Speaker 3: on a player.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I would say. I don't know if I would go
- 12:23Speaker 1: that much over, but yeah. Oh, I do.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I do think it's significantly greater.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Well, I looked at that and I'm like, wow, that's interesting.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I mean, you brought up a good point there. I mean,
- 12:36Speaker 1: as a player, you can go in and try to
- 12:38Speaker 1: change things with your play. And as a coach.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Sure, you can make adjustments, but if your guys aren't
- 12:45Speaker 3: playing well, there's nothing you can do.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It doesn't matter.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I know some people were blaming Pope
- 12:51Speaker 1: for some losses last year. It's like, well, he wasn't
- 12:53Speaker 1: out there on the court. I get the argument going
- 12:56Speaker 1: both ways, but sometimes you do have to make adjustments.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions. And I just
- 13:05Speaker 1: think that decision-making process is a lot more challenging and
- 13:10Speaker 1: a lot more– pressure intensified for the coaches than it
- 13:16Speaker 1: is for the actual player. Couldn't agree more. And I
- 13:19Speaker 1: heard him say that. I appreciate what he's saying, but
- 13:22Speaker 1: on the other hand, no, it's not. I mean, I
- 13:25Speaker 1: would love to dive deeper into that and see what
- 13:29Speaker 1: kind of answers he would give me. Nobody followed up
- 13:32Speaker 1: on that? Not really. Yeah, which I was kind of surprised,
- 13:34Speaker 1: a little disappointed on. The other part was Zoom Diallo.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I did enjoy this. Who else was there with him?
- 13:44Speaker 1: I don't remember right offhand, but it was Zoom Diallo,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and I think it was Momchilovit. Okay. And I don't
- 13:53Speaker 1: remember who the third one was. But anyway, Zoom was
- 13:56Speaker 1: out there, and he admitted that he is a lambatarian.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Excuse me? You heard me correctly. What is that? That's
- 14:03Speaker 1: what I wanted to see if you knew what that was.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm assuming that means he only eats lamb? You're exactly right.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Very good. I don't think, if somebody said I'm a lambatarian,
- 14:13Speaker 1: I don't think I would predict what it was. Well, pescatarians,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you only eat fish.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Correct.
- 14:20Speaker 1: You're right. Pescado is fish. So I just, I'd use
- 14:23Speaker 1: my context. Wow. Nice job, Justin. I'm very impressed by that. Yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Cause I, if there was one thing you could give
- 14:32Speaker 1: up in life, eating the rest of your life, what
- 14:35Speaker 1: would it be? And you had to eat just one
- 14:37Speaker 1: thing the rest of your life. If I, so I'm
- 14:41Speaker 1: giving something up or I'm only eating one thing.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Both.
- 14:44Speaker 3: I mean, I can give up fruits and vegetables cause
- 14:47Speaker 3: I don't eat them.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Really? You don't eat fruits or vegetables?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Not really.
- 14:50Speaker 6: No.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Oh, my.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I can give that up, no problem. Although, I wouldn't
- 14:53Speaker 3: miss salad. I wouldn't miss salad. I do eat a
- 14:56Speaker 3: salad from time to time, and I always enjoy it.
- 14:58Speaker 1: But if you ate one thing the rest of your life,
- 15:00Speaker 1: what would it be? Biscuits and gravy. It's always that.
- 15:04Speaker 3: It always is. That answer will never change.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I couldn't do that. Yeah, I'm just not a biscuits
- 15:10Speaker 1: and gravy kind of guy. It has to be really
- 15:13Speaker 1: good gravy with lots of sausage. I mean, it would
- 15:15Speaker 1: have to be from a certain place, obviously. Oh, really? Yeah. Okay.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Which- I normally eat that on my birthday, too, but
- 15:22Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know that I'm going to
- 15:24Speaker 3: make that happen today. Well, that's so sad. We've got
- 15:27Speaker 3: to change that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: All right.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Well, handle the second segment by yourself. I'll go pick
- 15:31Speaker 3: some up.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Okay, go. I'll be happy with that just because I
- 15:34Speaker 1: know you'll be happy and you'll be there listening to me.
- 15:37Speaker 1: But you'll miss Kenny Brooks and something I set up
- 15:39Speaker 1: just for you. No, I said just the second segment. Oh,
- 15:42Speaker 1: just this. Yeah, so we'll break here. Can you get
- 15:45Speaker 1: there and back that quickly? Well, here's the deal. We'll
- 15:47Speaker 1: break here.
- 15:48Speaker 3: We'll plan to skip a commercial break, and you just
- 15:50Speaker 3: talk by yourself for the next 40 minutes.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. Yeah, that's not going to go over well. But, yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Zoom Diallo admitted he's a lambatarian, and that is a
- 16:01Speaker 1: real word. He only eats lamb because he loves lamb.
- 16:05Speaker 1: That's the only reason he does it. He wanted to
- 16:07Speaker 1: try something different, and he did this time at Washington,
- 16:10Speaker 1: and that's when it started. He said, I love lamb chops.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And he eats it with mashed potatoes and french fries.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I thought that was funny, too.
- 16:19Speaker 4: What?
- 16:19Speaker 1: Yes, you heard me. So he'll eat lamb chops with
- 16:22Speaker 1: mashed potatoes. Exactly. That's exactly what I thought. But, I mean,
- 16:26Speaker 1: think of the amount of time that he's working out,
- 16:29Speaker 1: so it's not going to hurt him. But I don't
- 16:31Speaker 1: know if I could eat that much lamb chops. I'm
- 16:33Speaker 1: a seafood guy. I could give up steak. I could
- 16:36Speaker 1: give up chicken. I could give up pork. I think
- 16:41Speaker 1: pork I would miss the most. Yeah. Because I love ribs.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And bacon. Bacon, too. But chicken, I'd miss fried chicken
- 16:51Speaker 1: because I do love that. And I don't know. I'm
- 16:55Speaker 1: not big on steak. Have you ever had lamb? Oh,
- 16:58Speaker 1: very much so. I love lamb. I don't think I've
- 17:00Speaker 1: ever had lamb. Yeah, there is an Indian restaurant that
- 17:03Speaker 1: I go to here in Louisville. And my wife always
- 17:07Speaker 1: gets the same thing, chicken tikka masala. And I'll get
- 17:11Speaker 1: lamb tikka masala. I bet you've never had it, have you?
- 17:16Speaker 1: I bet I have. Lamb or tikka masala? Tikka masala.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It's delicious.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Because I used to work with, when I was in
- 17:24Speaker 3: one of the hotels, there was an Indian guy that
- 17:26Speaker 3: worked there.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Oh, nice.
- 17:27Speaker 3: He would bring in food all the time, and every
- 17:29Speaker 3: time he'd be like, try it, try it. So I
- 17:31Speaker 3: would try it.
- 17:31Speaker 1: And did you like it?
- 17:33Speaker 3: There were a number of things he brought that I liked,
- 17:35Speaker 3: but there were also a number of things he brought
- 17:36Speaker 3: that I was like, eh, that's not for me. So
- 17:40Speaker 3: you think you tried lamb?
- 17:42Speaker 1: I don't know. Honestly, I have no idea.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Okay. I enjoy it. Lamb chops are some of my favorite.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Maybe I'll sneak it out. Rack of lamb? Oh, I
- 17:52Speaker 1: love rack of lamb. Delicious. So I think it's a
- 17:55Speaker 1: little pricey, though, if I remember correctly.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:57Speaker 1: But I enjoyed what Zoom Diallo had to say. I
- 18:01Speaker 1: enjoyed what Milam Mamchilovit had to say. And so that...
- 18:06Speaker 1: I thought they did a nice job. I thought Mark
- 18:08Speaker 1: Pope did a really nice job yesterday, other than saying
- 18:11Speaker 1: that he's accepting the pressure like he does as a player.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I'm not making fun of him whatsoever, but I am
- 18:19Speaker 1: questioning whether that is true or not. I would have
- 18:23Speaker 1: to say the pressure on a coach is completely different.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It can't be the same as it was when he
- 18:30Speaker 1: was a player. No way. Anyway, we got to take
- 18:32Speaker 1: our first break.
- 18:33Speaker 4: 502-384-1450.
- 18:33Speaker 1: You want to call? 502-414-1450 if you want to text
- 18:38Speaker 1: in on the Whiskey Thief text line. Stay right there.
- 18:40Speaker 1: This is Justin Katz.
- 18:48Speaker 5: This wind chills like a movie screen, playing back those memories.
- 18:53Speaker 5: Cheap cold beer and an open box party going down
- 18:56Speaker 5: in the parking lot. First time planes and Friday nights,
- 19:00Speaker 5: tailgate talks and crossing lines. Happens to me every time.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I got my hometown in my headlight.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Might as well go ahead and call in late. Yeah,
- 19:24Speaker 5: I already know there ain't no way I'm going to
- 19:26Speaker 5: get to work on time in the morning. At least
- 19:32Speaker 5: they got me a beautiful excuse.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Girl, I'm going to blame it.
- 19:37Speaker 5: All on you. And the way that you close your
- 19:40Speaker 5: eyes late at night.
- 19:44Speaker 1: 502-384-1450 if you want to call in. That's another really
- 19:46Speaker 1: good song right there by J.D.
- 19:47Speaker 4: 502-414-1450.
- 19:50Speaker 1: To text in on the Whiskey Thief text line or
- 19:52Speaker 1: you tweet me at Just The Cat Radio. Let's get
- 19:54Speaker 1: through a couple of these. One of my favorite names
- 19:58Speaker 1: just texted in, Cheeseburger Eddie. God, that makes me laugh.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Happy birthday, Scoots. Thank you, Cheeseburger Eddie. What? He's new
- 20:09Speaker 1: to this show. Has he been texting your show a
- 20:11Speaker 1: lot longer than this? I'm not sure. You'll have to
- 20:14Speaker 1: go back and look. Where has he gone? Where has
- 20:16Speaker 1: he been, and who put this whole Cheeseburger Eddie in?
- 20:19Speaker 1: I put it in. Oh, you did? Why did you
- 20:21Speaker 1: name him Cheeseburger Eddie? Because that's what he named himself. Oh,
- 20:24Speaker 1: that is it. Yeah, he's new to us.
- 20:26Speaker 3: If a texter sends in a name for themselves, I'm
- 20:29Speaker 3: going to put it in the text.
- 20:30Speaker 1: See, and I like that, so I'm glad you did. Hey, Michael.
- 20:33Speaker 1: John here. I knew you were busy, but please take
- 20:38Speaker 1: a look at your Rays today. Enjoy it while they
- 20:41Speaker 1: are still playing. Also, Michael, thanks for getting Coach Brooks
- 20:44Speaker 1: to come on. You are awesome. Just go get that
- 20:47Speaker 1: hole-in-one and have a great birthday today, my friend. Thank you.
- 20:52Speaker 1: That was for you. Sounds like it. Yeah. Hole-in-one would
- 20:55Speaker 1: be incredible. Yeah. I've been close. My dad has been
- 21:00Speaker 1: even closer, but he never got one. Really?
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 1: You've never got one either. No, I've never gotten one.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I've hit the pin several times, but I've, yeah, I've
- 21:09Speaker 1: never gotten one. I've gotten an Eagle a few times on,
- 21:12Speaker 1: you know, lots of birdies, but never a hole in
- 21:15Speaker 1: one birdie. Well, I mean, what do you, okay. No,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I'm not that good, but I mean, okay.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Fine.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Senior tour. Gosh darn, Justin, sorry if you can't golf today.
- 21:28Speaker 1: If I was a local with you, I would go
- 21:30Speaker 1: with you. One good thing about that is we would
- 21:33Speaker 1: laugh for sure and you would win because I am trash.
- 21:36Speaker 1: That's from John as well. I know that, John. Oh,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you do? Yeah, he came to our scramble one year. Oh,
- 21:41Speaker 1: he did? Not great. That's pretty cool. Yeah. Whose scramble?
- 21:45Speaker 1: The Big X scramble. Oh, really? That you never get
- 21:47Speaker 1: the invite to. That I'm never invited? Yeah, exactly. Maybe
- 21:50Speaker 1: one day we can have a just the cat scramble.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Hey, by the way, I promised her I would do this,
- 21:55Speaker 3: but we do have a new listener this morning as well.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Want to shout out? Want to shout out Sarah, former co-worker.
- 22:02Speaker 3: But yeah, past co-worker.
- 22:04Speaker 1: What?
- 22:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Really?
- 22:05Speaker 3: We were texting a little bit last night. She was like,
- 22:07Speaker 3: how can I listen to you? And I was like,
- 22:09Speaker 3: here's how you listen. And I told her I'd give
- 22:11Speaker 3: her a shout out.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Wow. So there you go. Shout out, Sarah. Okay, good.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm trying to think who over the weekend was saying
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm listening as well. It's like, oh, please do. When
- 22:19Speaker 1: people say, I'm going to go listen, I tell them,
- 22:21Speaker 1: please don't. It's the dumbest show in the world. Please.
- 22:24Speaker 1: It's embarrassing. I embarrass my family. I embarrass myself the most.
- 22:29Speaker 1: But anyway, they always laugh. I'm going to listen. I'm
- 22:32Speaker 1: going to listen. Oh, I know who it was. So yesterday,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'm on the phone for a long time with this
- 22:39Speaker 1: guy over in Lexington. He's with a website called Equibase. E-Q-U-I-B-A-S-E. Equibase.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And I had to sign up for that apart of Naira.
- 22:50Speaker 1: And the guy's like, yeah, you sound familiar. And I'm like, oh, really?
- 22:58Speaker 1: I said, okay. Well, and then we're chit-chatting. I said, well,
- 23:03Speaker 1: he goes, you having a good day? And I said,
- 23:05Speaker 1: I'm having a great day. I'm still celebrating UK winning
- 23:07Speaker 1: this past weekend. And he goes, oh, I was at
- 23:10Speaker 1: the game. So he's in Lexington. Okay. I didn't know that. And, uh,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I said, yeah, I was, he goes, where were you sitting?
- 23:17Speaker 1: I said, well, I was up in the press box.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Cause I do a UK radio show. Oh, which one?
- 23:21Speaker 1: I said, uh, uh, it's called just the cats. And, uh,
- 23:25Speaker 1: he goes, wait, are you Michael Bennett? Are you the
- 23:29Speaker 1: guy that died? I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:35Speaker 1: And I have risen as well. So yeah, the guy
- 23:37Speaker 1: asked me if I'm the one that died. That's hilarious.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I'm like, thanks a lot. Uh, 48 handle. He said, um,
- 23:45Speaker 1: The pressure is different as a coach, but he played
- 23:48Speaker 1: for Patino. He's no stranger to pressure. You can handle
- 23:51Speaker 1: it or you can't. Yeah, you know, I don't disagree.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I mean, there's definitely pressure on both sides. Oh, absolutely
- 23:58Speaker 1: there is. I just think it's completely different. I mean,
- 24:01Speaker 1: that's one of the questions I want to ask Kenny Brooks.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Is there extra pressure for Claire Strack because of the
- 24:08Speaker 1: fact that she is a preseason All-American? And I'd have
- 24:13Speaker 1: to say there's pressure on her. But is there as
- 24:15Speaker 1: much pressure on her as there is on Kenny Brooks?
- 24:18Speaker 1: I would say no. Yeah, probably not. And so the
- 24:20Speaker 1: same goes for Will Stein. The same goes for Mark Pope.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of all the coaches that have
- 24:30Speaker 1: coached at UK. And I'm talking basketball and football. Who
- 24:34Speaker 1: do you think was... The biggest pressure cooker when you
- 24:38Speaker 1: played for him. And I would have to say, as
- 24:41Speaker 1: far as basketball, it's probably Rick Pitino. Listen, I wasn't
- 24:46Speaker 1: allowed when Adolph Rupp was there, but I was when
- 24:48Speaker 1: Coach Hall was there, Joe B., Eddie Sutton, Billy Gillespie,
- 24:55Speaker 1: Rick Pitino. Well, I'd say the craziest was probably Billy Gillespie.
- 25:00Speaker 1: He probably didn't feel any pressure because he didn't care.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I think he cared. I wouldn't say he
- 25:07Speaker 1: didn't care. I think he was too liquored up to care.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I think that's part of the problem. I think that's
- 25:11Speaker 1: how he handled his pressure, which I'm not going to
- 25:14Speaker 1: make fun of.
- 25:14Speaker 2: No.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I'm not going to make fun of that at all.
- 25:17Speaker 1: He had issues outside of basketball because of all the
- 25:20Speaker 1: pressure that was mounting within his head. And I think
- 25:23Speaker 1: that's really sad. Because he was over it. And I
- 25:25Speaker 1: hope he's okay. But who do you think? John Calipari.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Mark Pope, who do you, in your mind, would have
- 25:35Speaker 1: been the most intense coach that would have put the
- 25:38Speaker 1: most pressure on his players to perform? It probably was
- 25:42Speaker 1: Ricky P. See, I think so, too.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Although, I would say Cal's probably a close second, just
- 25:48Speaker 3: because he had expectations coming in. He had won a title.
- 25:52Speaker 3: I mean, he'd done some really nice things in his
- 25:55Speaker 3: coaching career, so he probably added pressure to them.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Because of that. Yeah, and I left off Tubby Smith, too.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So I'm trying to think who would be the easiest
- 26:05Speaker 1: to play with. And I'd probably have to say Mark Pope, probably.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I just don't see him as intense. You know, there
- 26:12Speaker 1: would be times, as much as I think that Tubby
- 26:16Speaker 1: Smith was out there having... Well, not necessarily having fun,
- 26:20Speaker 1: but he could get intense in a couple of seconds.
- 26:23Speaker 1: The look he would give you when a player would
- 26:25Speaker 1: screw up, man, it was pretty intense.
- 26:27Speaker 2: But....
- 26:29Speaker 1: I'm trying to think who it would be. I would
- 26:31Speaker 1: probably say Mark Pope is probably the one that really doesn't.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Who was it yesterday that said he's really laid back? Oh,
- 26:38Speaker 1: it was Denzel Aberdeen, wasn't it? No, it was Brandon
- 26:41Speaker 1: Garrison that said that.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Brandon Garrison said he's just, he's really laid back. And
- 26:47Speaker 1: I think that as well, looking outside in. Now, every
- 26:50Speaker 1: now and then I think Mark Pope gets pretty intense,
- 26:53Speaker 1: but I think that's few and far between.
- 26:55Speaker 3: He definitely comes off as one of those coaches that
- 26:59Speaker 3: wants to be one of the boys, you know? And
- 27:02Speaker 3: he wants all of his players to feel that way
- 27:04Speaker 3: as well, wants it to be just some big bromance
- 27:07Speaker 3: throughout the entire team. That's the way it comes.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Off to me. But that's not a good thing, is it?
- 27:11Speaker 1: It can be.
- 27:12Speaker 3: I mean, I would explain the exact same way about
- 27:15Speaker 3: Will Stein, and it's working for him.
- 27:20Speaker 1: What is the difference between Mark Pope and Will Stein?
- 27:24Speaker 1: We don't have enough time. Well, all right, give me
- 27:26Speaker 1: a couple then. Because I agree with you. I think
- 27:31Speaker 1: they're similar, but I think there are some major differences.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I think Mark Pope is a little too laid back.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I think that Will Stein does get intense, but he
- 27:41Speaker 1: can still be that guy that is like, I don't
- 27:45Speaker 1: know if it was nurturing the other night when he
- 27:47Speaker 1: took the kicker and took him aside and say, dude,
- 27:50Speaker 1: I see you every day. I don't think it was nurturing.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I think he was just being a coach and that
- 27:55Speaker 1: was the best way to canopy both. Yeah. Can it be?
- 28:00Speaker 1: I mean, do you want a nurturing coach? Yeah, you do. Absolutely.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Okay.
- 28:06Speaker 1: As far as football, who do you think has been
- 28:08Speaker 1: the most intense coach?
- 28:12Speaker 3: I'm trying to think. I would probably say Rich Brooks. Yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 3: I mean, you'd have a better understanding on this than me.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Basketball, I can chime in. Football, I don't. That's okay.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I'm just good with the history. That's okay. Joker Phillips, nah,
- 28:24Speaker 1: he was a player. You said Mark Stoops was pretty intense.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Mark Stoops was intense, yeah. I mean, you could have
- 28:31Speaker 1: a little bit of fun with him, but he was
- 28:32Speaker 1: more intense than he was having fun. But I just.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I'm telling you, as soon as you ticked off Rich Brooks, man,
- 28:40Speaker 1: you knew it was coming, and you did not want
- 28:42Speaker 1: any part of that. One person said Bear Bryant. Yeah,
- 28:45Speaker 1: that's before my time, 48 Hanley, so I'm sorry. I
- 28:48Speaker 1: can't chime in on that either.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Mr.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Illinois chimed in. Thank you very much. I'm so happy
- 28:53Speaker 1: with this update. Cold Brew Chronicles Episode 4. Here we go.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I know. I kind of like this episode. Cold Brew Chronicles, okay? Today,
- 29:06Speaker 1: I learned you can receive a restraining order for a
- 29:08Speaker 1: certain parts of a building. Went to the restroom this
- 29:11Speaker 1: morning and was stopped by maintenance. They told me until
- 29:15Speaker 1: my body adjusts, I'm not allowed in there. When I
- 29:22Speaker 1: asked what should I do when nature calls, they handed
- 29:25Speaker 1: me a bucket and told me to handle it out back. Oh, boy. Oh,
- 29:29Speaker 1: come on now. Now we're getting to the point where
- 29:31Speaker 1: we're exaggerating a little. I do love the Chronicles, though.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Cold Brew Chronicles. That's a great name, by the way.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Josh texted me yesterday right after he sent his text in,
- 29:43Speaker 3: and he was like, I can confirm all of that.
- 29:45Speaker 1: What? Is this Josh?
- 29:48Speaker 2: No.
- 29:49Speaker 1: This is somebody else? Yeah. Josh's number. Josh works with him? No, no, no, no.
- 29:55Speaker 3: He was just confirming what cold brew does to your body.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Oh, it does?
- 29:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 1: It cleans you out? I guess. I'm not drinking it. Really? Huh. Well,
- 30:04Speaker 1: does regular coffee do that too when you're drinking it warm?
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm not a coffee guy. I don't know. I have
- 30:10Speaker 1: no idea either. So I don't know. Prune juice does.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I always learned that prune juice took care of the plumbing.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I mean, that's a nice way to say it. I
- 30:22Speaker 1: don't know how else to say it. Pretty crass either way.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Five-star defensive lineman Kellen Hall is the new number one
- 30:31Speaker 1: prospect in 28 rivals rankings. How do you like that?
- 30:37Speaker 2: Who is?
- 30:38Speaker 1: Kellen Hall, the kid from that defensive lineman from Christian
- 30:41Speaker 1: Academy here in Louisville. He's deciding between UK, Ohio. He's
- 30:46Speaker 1: the one that threw the L's down the other day.
- 30:48Speaker 1: But it was the LSU L's down. Is he the
- 30:50Speaker 1: one that was committed to Louisville? Yes. Okay. He's considering UK,
- 30:55Speaker 1: Ohio State, Oklahoma, UT, Alabama, and UofL. And he was
- 31:01Speaker 1: supposed to go to Ohio State last weekend, but he
- 31:04Speaker 1: passed to go to the UK game. So a lot
- 31:08Speaker 1: of people are now predicting he's going to go to UK.
- 31:11Speaker 1: A big get. It would be a big get. could
- 31:14Speaker 1: Will Stein get a number one of number one before
- 31:21Speaker 1: Mark Pope does? Because Mark Pope has not done that yet.
- 31:25Speaker 1: You know, the number one recruit in all of that
- 31:28Speaker 1: particular year. And he's gotten some number one recruits. But
- 31:34Speaker 1: he's gotten three of them so far. Two in-state, one out-of-state.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But can he get a number one of number one
- 31:41Speaker 1: before Will Stein? I kind of believe that Will Stein's
- 31:44Speaker 1: going to get him. I would say so, too. Really?
- 31:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:47Speaker 3: I mean, it just feels like he's got more momentum.
- 31:49Speaker 3: And time may or may not be running out for Pope.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, yeah. I just think Will Stein has a
- 31:57Speaker 1: better chance because he's just– recruiting if they continue to
- 32:03Speaker 1: win because how many more games you think they should
- 32:07Speaker 1: win in order to start getting all these commits to
- 32:11Speaker 1: start dropping it to uk because they now believe in
- 32:15Speaker 1: will stein i don't think there's something you don't think
- 32:18Speaker 1: so you think they're going to drop in there anyway
- 32:20Speaker 1: even if they don't win which i know they're going
- 32:22Speaker 1: to win more games this year But even if they don't,
- 32:25Speaker 1: you think they're going to start dropping in at UK?
- 32:27Speaker 4: I do.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Because, I mean, you can see the writing on the
- 32:30Speaker 3: wall with Will Stein and what he's going to be
- 32:31Speaker 3: able to do at Kentucky. I mean, what he's done
- 32:33Speaker 3: so far through six games has been ridiculously impressive. Like
- 32:37Speaker 3: you said, there's going to be more wins stacking up. So,
- 32:39Speaker 3: I don't think there's a number– Specifically, I just think
- 32:43Speaker 3: if you keep looking good week in and week out
- 32:45Speaker 3: and maybe surprising folks along the way, that stuff just
- 32:49Speaker 3: happens naturally.
- 32:50Speaker 1: If they can win this game this weekend, I think
- 32:54Speaker 1: they start dropping. They start dropping and they're committing to
- 32:56Speaker 1: the U.K., They don't want to wait around anymore. It's
- 32:59Speaker 1: going to be interesting to see because now, you know this,
- 33:03Speaker 1: this came out yesterday. UK is now asking for season
- 33:08Speaker 1: ticket deposits. If you don't have season tickets this year,
- 33:11Speaker 1: they are now taking deposits of $ 100, non-refundable deposits of
- 33:16Speaker 1: $ 100 for season tickets next year. That'll put you in
- 33:21Speaker 1: priority status.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I saw that. It's like, that's pretty cool. And, and
- 33:28Speaker 1: I have to believe there's going to be a lot
- 33:29Speaker 1: of people out there. They're going to start dropping the
- 33:31Speaker 1: a hundred dollars down there and like, okay, I'm in,
- 33:34Speaker 1: I want my season tickets back. I want to be
- 33:37Speaker 1: a part of this, uh, get me in. And so
- 33:40Speaker 1: I can be on that priority list. Are you surprised
- 33:43Speaker 1: that they're not even half? Well, they're halfway through the season.
- 33:45Speaker 1: They're already asking for this. I mean, you got to
- 33:47Speaker 1: strike when the iron's hot. And you've got to be
- 33:50Speaker 1: proactive with it all too, right? I mean, if you
- 33:53Speaker 1: see the numbers increasing week in and week out this
- 33:56Speaker 1: year and you feel the excitement within the fan base,
- 33:59Speaker 1: that's only going to continue to increase.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 34:03Speaker 1: And I just, it put us, it's like, whoa, that's
- 34:06Speaker 1: pretty aggressive. But on the other hand, put a smile
- 34:08Speaker 1: on my face. Because if UK season in football was
- 34:12Speaker 1: not going this well, I don't think they would be
- 34:15Speaker 1: asking for this right now.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Do you?
- 34:16Speaker 1: They're only doing this because the season has gone so
- 34:19Speaker 1: crazy successful. Yeah, I agree with that. Yeah, yeah. All right,
- 34:23Speaker 1: we've got to take another break. 502-384-1450, 502-414-1450. Text me
- 34:25Speaker 1: on the Whiskey Thief text line. Stay right there. This
- 34:27Speaker 1: is Justin Katz. This is one of those songs I
- 34:56Speaker 1: hate interrupting. Sorry about that.
- 34:59Speaker 4: 502-384-1450.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Such a good song right there. If you want to
- 35:03Speaker 1: call 502-414-1450, you want to text in on the Whiskey
- 35:06Speaker 1: Thief text line. 48 Hanley said, with horses, you oil them.
- 35:11Speaker 1: And I said it correctly, by the way.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Oil.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Oil.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I know. I don't know why I've always said oil
- 35:17Speaker 1: or bowl. Boil. I have no idea where it all
- 35:21Speaker 1: came from, but that's. I guess because my parents said
- 35:23Speaker 1: it that way. It's the only thing I can think of.
- 35:26Speaker 1: But yeah, with horses, you oil them. So oil them.
- 35:29Speaker 3: By the way, quick shout out to Jamie bringing us
- 35:31Speaker 3: some donuts.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Oh, he brought you some donuts too? He's an absolute man.
- 35:34Speaker 3: You are going to gain 50 pounds today, by the way. Well,
- 35:37Speaker 3: you have to take one of them because it says
- 35:39Speaker 3: happy birthday boys on the box.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Oh, it does. So you got to have one.
- 35:42Speaker 3: What kind of donuts are they? They look very similar
- 35:46Speaker 3: to the ones you brought.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Oh, seriously? All funny. They're from EK's. You ever heard
- 35:51Speaker 1: of EK's? I have not. Me neither. They smell delicious. Yeah,
- 35:55Speaker 1: there's nothing better than smelling fried dough.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I am going to gain about 38 pounds.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you are. You are, and it's deserved. So anyway,
- 36:03Speaker 1: but UK football amid their incredible year is already asking
- 36:10Speaker 1: for the season tickets. I mean, it's just one of
- 36:11Speaker 1: those things I love. Here's the other thing that, you know,
- 36:15Speaker 1: we're talking about before we went on break. The other
- 36:17Speaker 1: thing that I really love, UK offensive line, uh, named
- 36:22Speaker 1: to the Joe Moore award mid season honor roll. That's
- 36:27Speaker 1: pretty nice because which recognizes the most outstanding offensive line
- 36:31Speaker 1: unit in college football, which was announced yesterday. Cause you know,
- 36:36Speaker 1: we were happy the first game against Youngstown. Then we
- 36:41Speaker 1: got a little nervous. We were happy the first half, uh,
- 36:43Speaker 1: versus Alabama, but That second half, man, it really took
- 36:49Speaker 1: it out of that line. And you thought, okay, I mean,
- 36:52Speaker 1: first of all, we recognize we can't have anybody else
- 36:55Speaker 1: except for the starting players out there. And now it's
- 36:59Speaker 1: just vastly improved. And I think they've done a great job.
- 37:05Speaker 1: And it makes me feel like... The big blue wall
- 37:09Speaker 1: has that chance. If it's not back, it has a
- 37:12Speaker 1: really strong chance of being back. Oh, it's back. You
- 37:14Speaker 1: think so?
- 37:15Speaker 3: The way that everybody's throwing that term around.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's back. Okay. I hope you're right. But I just,
- 37:23Speaker 1: I don't want to jinx it. I mean, the more
- 37:25Speaker 1: I talk about this, the more it's like, okay, they're
- 37:27Speaker 1: going to lose Saturday. I am worried about this. We're
- 37:31Speaker 1: two days away. This will be, I have to believe,
- 37:35Speaker 1: one of the biggest away games for us that we've
- 37:39Speaker 1: played in a long time. And I would have said
- 37:42Speaker 1: that about Texas A & M, and I would have
- 37:44Speaker 1: said that about whatever, what other away games we got.
- 37:49Speaker 1: You know, we got at Missouri, at Tennessee. It's like,
- 37:52Speaker 1: good gosh, when does it end? But I feel like
- 37:55Speaker 1: this is going to be the most attended away game
- 37:58Speaker 1: that UK has ever seen. I hope so. Now, uh,
- 38:03Speaker 1: with that comes the injury report and, uh, uh, and,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and UK is still struggling with some injuries, mainly coming
- 38:14Speaker 1: from the, um, linebacker room. So Oklahoma, uh, is missing
- 38:22Speaker 1: some people as well. Now the part that was surprising
- 38:27Speaker 1: that came out yesterday, the, the injury report, uh, is
- 38:31Speaker 1: that CJ Baxter is on the list as questionable.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:39Speaker 1: What happened? I mean, he was just talking about Adele
- 38:41Speaker 1: with Paul Feinbaum the other day. He didn't look injured
- 38:44Speaker 1: to me.
- 38:44Speaker 3: I mean, I guess the good news with that is
- 38:47Speaker 3: you've got Maybe not plenty of depth, but you've got
- 38:50Speaker 3: some depth behind him in that running back room.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Jason Patterson. Patterson's been good.
- 38:55Speaker 2: It goes deep.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Who was the kid from last week? Gosh dang. Barnes. Yeah,
- 38:59Speaker 1: I think Barnes was a good looking back last week. Yeah, absolutely. But,
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know, you want CJ there. You want your starting. Listen,
- 39:08Speaker 1: I think he'll start.
- 39:09Speaker 3: And, I mean, you got to think about him coming
- 39:11Speaker 3: from Texas as well.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:13Speaker 3: And his probably disdain for Oklahoma that comes with that.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Absolutely. That's the other part. Because he's got motivation with
- 39:19Speaker 1: this ball game. Not just for UK, but because of
- 39:21Speaker 1: the fact that he used to play for Texas.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So, uh oklahoma's dealing with injuries themselves with injuries that
- 39:28Speaker 1: wide out they've got that one wide receiver that's been
- 39:31Speaker 1: out uh that's a huge loss for them they got
- 39:34Speaker 1: a running back out the offensive line is struggling and
- 39:37Speaker 1: and could be without multiple starters this saturday uh depending
- 39:41Speaker 1: on how the question was are able to play or not.
- 39:44Speaker 1: So that's another factor that we're looking at, you know,
- 39:46Speaker 1: and tomorrow we'll get more into the ball game because
- 39:49Speaker 1: tomorrow we got a full slate. You got the game
- 39:52Speaker 1: Saturday versus Oklahoma, and then you got UK basketball tomorrow night.
- 39:57Speaker 1: What is that? It's seven o'clock against little rock. Is
- 40:00Speaker 1: that televised by the way? Uh, I didn't see if
- 40:03Speaker 1: it was or not, but I'm sure it's probably on
- 40:06Speaker 1: sec plus it'll be televised, but just dependent upon where
- 40:10Speaker 1: you got to go watch it. So, uh, It is
- 40:12Speaker 1: on SEC Plus.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 1: There you go.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Thank you. Also ESPN Plus. You got it.
- 40:18Speaker 3: You got ESPN Plus. You got SEC Plus. Well, if
- 40:21Speaker 3: you got YouTube, you got it, period.
- 40:22Speaker 2: True.
- 40:23Speaker 1: YouTube TV. Yeah. Which I'm so glad I got that
- 40:27Speaker 1: a while ago. But anyway, congratulations again to the offensive line.
- 40:34Speaker 1: The O-line coach, Cutter Leftwich, has just done an incredible job. Yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 1: I'm happy for him. And it is kind of getting
- 40:43Speaker 1: that feeling that John Schlarman is helping and guiding Cutter Leftwich,
- 40:48Speaker 1: you know, who's no longer with us, which I wish
- 40:51Speaker 1: he was. He was such a great guy. But that's,
- 40:55Speaker 1: to me, the main part of the team. I mean,
- 40:58Speaker 1: when you go out and recruit, don't you start on
- 41:00Speaker 1: the offensive line or do you start somewhere else?
- 41:03Speaker 3: I mean, if you are going to start somewhere else,
- 41:05Speaker 3: maybe D-line. But it has to be line play either way.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Yeah, either way. Exactly.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Because, I mean, how many times have you seen a
- 41:12Speaker 3: game decided because of the trenches?
- 41:14Speaker 1: All the time. Exactly. And that's one of those things
- 41:18Speaker 1: that you saw it last weekend. That's how much the
- 41:21Speaker 1: offensive line, because that was a defense, LSU defense, that
- 41:25Speaker 1: was considered one of the best in the country. And
- 41:29Speaker 1: they blocked them the entire time and allowed for big plays.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Just to watch that final play in overtime should have
- 41:37Speaker 1: shown you how much this offensive line has just meant
- 41:40Speaker 1: to this UK football team.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I mean, it was fantastic. I loved every second of that.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Although I don't give them that much credit for that
- 41:48Speaker 3: play in overtime. I give more of the credit to
- 41:51Speaker 3: just the play call and Kenny Minchie's wherewithal to know that, hey,
- 41:55Speaker 3: if I send these three guys out, they're going to
- 41:57Speaker 3: follow him and I'm going to have a wide open lane.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Yeah. But, I mean, it was.
- 42:01Speaker 3: Without the blocking, obviously, on that play, he's probably not. Actually,
- 42:06Speaker 3: I think every one of those offensive linemen could have
- 42:08Speaker 3: let their guy just come straight to.
- 42:10Speaker 1: The backfield and Kenny still scored.
- 42:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Like that's how much room he has.
- 42:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:15Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I think four or five people could
- 42:18Speaker 1: have scored in a row. I mean, they were being
- 42:22Speaker 1: so well blocked that nobody could penetrate to try and
- 42:26Speaker 1: stop whoever was going to. Because I've watched it several times.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Every time I watch that last play, I still get,
- 42:33Speaker 1: my heart starts beating and my blood pressure goes up.
- 42:35Speaker 1: It's like, okay, is he going to, and I know
- 42:36Speaker 1: he's going to make it, but I still get nervous
- 42:38Speaker 1: about it. Because I'm thinking, how long does he, in
- 42:41Speaker 1: his mind, does he, how many steps does he take back?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Is he counting that? Is he counting the seconds? Or
- 42:47Speaker 1: is he just looking on there to see when it
- 42:48Speaker 1: opens up and then just takes off?
- 42:51Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 42:51Speaker 1: I mean, there's so many things that's going through my
- 42:54Speaker 1: mind to try and figure out what is going through
- 42:57Speaker 1: Kenny Minchie's mind on that one play. And here we are, what,
- 43:01Speaker 1: six days later, five days later, and we're still talking
- 43:03Speaker 1: about it. That's going to be a play that's going
- 43:07Speaker 1: to last in the UK fan base for a long time.
- 43:11Speaker 1: And just the fact watching Will Stein put up the fingers,
- 43:15Speaker 1: two fingers. that's going to last in UK fan base
- 43:19Speaker 1: mind for a long time. You're going to see a
- 43:21Speaker 1: lot more of it.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:22Speaker 1: And I couldn't agree more. And you, I hope you do, uh,
- 43:25Speaker 1: buzz texted in and, uh, he said, uh, players get
- 43:30Speaker 1: bench coaches get fired. That's the main difference. Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And I think that's a big difference for that fact.
- 43:38Speaker 1: So well said there, uh, uh, buzz. Um, Jolie texted
- 43:43Speaker 1: in for you. Happy birthday, Justin. I hope your day
- 43:46Speaker 1: is filled with all kinds of scooty goodness. Thank you, Jolie. Yeah,
- 43:50Speaker 1: I love it when people say cheers. That's one of
- 43:53Speaker 1: those words that just makes me happy. I've got a
- 43:55Speaker 1: buddy that I've grown up with. Every time he texts me,
- 43:59Speaker 1: when he's done, he just says cheers. And I'm like,
- 44:02Speaker 1: I kind of like that. I've always liked that. Is
- 44:05Speaker 1: that kind of a snooty way to say cheers? Goodbye?
- 44:10Speaker 2: No.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It's just a different way to say it. Because I
- 44:13Speaker 1: think a snooty way to say bye is ciao. That's snooty. Yes. Okay.
- 44:19Speaker 1: So you agree with me from that standpoint. Because I
- 44:21Speaker 1: had a guy I used to work with a long
- 44:23Speaker 1: time ago. He was from Michigan. And he always said ciao.
- 44:28Speaker 1: And it always just kind of irritated me. I can't
- 44:31Speaker 1: hear that word without thinking of the hang-up. Oh, my gosh.
- 44:34Speaker 3: That's a great comparison. And Ken Jeong. He was always like, ciao.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Well, that was his name in the movie. Oh,
- 44:40Speaker 1: that was? Yeah, that was his name. Yeah, he didn't
- 44:43Speaker 1: say it. That was his name. No, that was his name.
- 44:45Speaker 1: But no, when somebody says ciao to me, it's like,
- 44:50Speaker 1: are you Mr. Hollywood or something? I'm expecting dark sunglasses
- 44:54Speaker 1: in a dark room, and you're telling me ciao as
- 44:56Speaker 1: he walks away. I don't know. I always thought that
- 44:59Speaker 1: was kind of goofy. But yeah, I'm not going to
- 45:02Speaker 1: say his name. Nobody would know him around. Really? Oh, Keith. Yeah, Keith.
- 45:06Speaker 1: There you go. I wasn't serious. No, Keith. Nobody knows
- 45:09Speaker 1: who he is. He's from Michigan. He lives out in California.
- 45:12Speaker 1: We'll track him down.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:13Speaker 1: He lived in Michigan, moved to California, and then he
- 45:15Speaker 1: became Mr. California. So, yeah. Good talking to you, Michael. Ciao.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, my gosh, man. And for some reason,
- 45:23Speaker 1: every now and then, it'd make me hungry. But, anyway,
- 45:25Speaker 1: all right, we got to take a break. Hour 2
- 45:28Speaker 1: is going to be coming up. Plus, not only that,
- 45:31Speaker 1: we might have a couple people call in and say
- 45:33Speaker 1: hello to you. Okay? And Kenny Brooks is going to
- 45:37Speaker 1: be calling in, too. So, stay right there. Hour 2
- 45:40Speaker 1: coming right up at Just the Cats. Welcome to Just
- 46:00Speaker 1: the Cats with Michael Bennett. All right, 502. What was that?
- 46:11Speaker 1: You there? Are you there, Justin? Hold tight. Yes, I'm
- 46:17Speaker 1: on the phone with J.D. Shelburne. Oh, my gosh. Are
- 46:20Speaker 1: you kidding me? Well, I don't know if we're on
- 46:26Speaker 1: the air or not, but I guess we are. So
- 46:29Speaker 1: this hour, we're going to have Kenny Brooks. At about 925,
- 46:34Speaker 1: he'll be joining us for a few minutes. So I'm
- 46:37Speaker 1: looking forward to that. But anyway, if you haven't known already,
- 46:41Speaker 1: but it's Justin's birthday. And I think someone was calling in.
- 46:47Speaker 1: So is he coming on the air with us?
- 46:49Speaker 4: No.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Why?
- 46:50Speaker 3: He said he'll let me do his thing. Or he'll
- 46:53Speaker 3: let me do my thing. I didn't know we were
- 46:55Speaker 3: getting him on air.
- 46:57Speaker 1: That was a surprise. Yes, he's supposed to be on
- 47:00Speaker 1: the air with us. Unbelievable. You hung up from him?
- 47:02Speaker 1: I did. Oh, my gosh. I'll text him. That was
- 47:06Speaker 1: a surprise. I can't surprise you with anything. Okay, never mind. Whatever. Oh,
- 47:13Speaker 1: my gosh, man. He was supposed to come on the
- 47:17Speaker 1: air with us. He's coming.
- 47:18Speaker 5: Okay.
- 47:20Speaker 1: You kill me sometimes he didn't say that i know
- 47:22Speaker 1: he didn't say it but i just i can't just
- 47:25Speaker 1: i'm trying to surprise you with a little something special
- 47:28Speaker 1: so let's forget it i i just i i do
- 47:32Speaker 1: uh okay good good morning hold up hold up okay
- 47:37Speaker 1: this is good morning jd good morning how are we
- 47:42Speaker 1: doing down in nashville tennessee.
- 47:45Speaker 4: And I'm up checking. Thank you. I'm up there checking
- 47:47Speaker 4: the stocks, man. Get this stock market back up, man.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Come on. We're talking. Well, this is not just the stocks.
- 47:53Speaker 1: This is just the cats. So anyway, but.
- 47:58Speaker 4: I've called the wrong number. My fault.
- 48:03Speaker 1: J.D. Shelburne is joining us. Of course, it's J.D. Shelburne
- 48:06Speaker 1: day on the show. So thanks to thanks to my
- 48:09Speaker 1: good friend, Justin Kalen, who likes to every other Thursday
- 48:12Speaker 1: is J.D. Shelburne between that and Jimmy Buffett. But, you know,
- 48:15Speaker 1: I texted you a little bit ago. It was a
- 48:16Speaker 1: surprise to have you call in and then, you know,
- 48:19Speaker 1: stinking Justin hang up, hangs up for me. I wanted
- 48:21Speaker 1: you to come on the air with us. I didn't
- 48:23Speaker 1: know that.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Well, it's your birthday. I was coming up with a
- 48:25Speaker 1: little surprise for you. So welcome in, J.D.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Hey, well, first of all, how much do I owe
- 48:31Speaker 4: you guys for J.D. Shelburne Day?
- 48:34Speaker 1: You owe me absolutely zero. No, no.
- 48:37Speaker 4: I appreciate it.
- 48:38Speaker 1: No, no. We're always going to plug you, my friend,
- 48:41Speaker 1: and or your music, because we just played one of
- 48:44Speaker 1: my other favorite songs just a second ago. Which is?
- 48:48Speaker 4: Man, I love when you do that.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Well, J.D., can you guess? You know what my favorite
- 48:54Speaker 1: song of yours is, right?
- 48:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I do, actually.
- 48:57Speaker 1: What is it?
- 48:58Speaker 4: Church Rebarco.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Exactly. And what is my second favorite song of yours?
- 49:05Speaker 4: Oh, second favorite.
- 49:06Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 49:07Speaker 1: That's a tough one. Is it really? I think you
- 49:10Speaker 1: play it, the first song.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Oh, Back Row Canal.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. I love that song.
- 49:18Speaker 4: I'm glad you do. That's the first one we play.
- 49:22Speaker 1: You played at the State Fair this year, and it's
- 49:26Speaker 1: your first song, and you come out, and your guitarist
- 49:28Speaker 1: is out there playing ACDC, and I'm like, oh, my gosh.
- 49:32Speaker 1: JD's really switching up, and then it goes straight into
- 49:35Speaker 1: that Back Road Kind of Love, and I love that.
- 49:39Speaker 4: Yeah, we play it every night. We do that same
- 49:41Speaker 4: intro every night. It's always a great way to get
- 49:44Speaker 4: the crowd going before we come out on stage.
- 49:46Speaker 2: It's always fun.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Well, J.D., and I know that song, more specifically that
- 49:50Speaker 3: music video, has a special place in your heart, right?
- 49:54Speaker 6: It does, man.
- 49:56Speaker 4: We shot that video in Nashville a few months ago,
- 49:59Speaker 4: and I was able to talk my wife into being
- 50:02Speaker 4: in the video, which is really hard to do, so.
- 50:05Speaker 2: that was, that was always.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Kind of a fun moment ever in music video with me.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Well, it wouldn't be very hard to convince me to
- 50:10Speaker 1: be in one of your videos. I just don't think
- 50:12Speaker 1: you'll ever ask. So, but how excited are you about
- 50:18Speaker 1: this football team? I want to get your opinion. Are you,
- 50:21Speaker 1: are you going to be able to come up to
- 50:23Speaker 1: any of the ball games?
- 50:26Speaker 4: Well, I, I, wasn't kind of sure of my tour schedule.
- 50:30Speaker 4: I'm kind of scattered here and there, but my tour
- 50:32Speaker 4: schedule actually slows down in the, in the kind of
- 50:34Speaker 4: foot in the football, start of basketball. But I don't know.
- 50:37Speaker 4: We'll see, man. I mean, this football team, I mean, if,
- 50:40Speaker 4: if we win Saturday, I mean, are we, I feel
- 50:43Speaker 4: like we're in the playoffs. I mean, we have to
- 50:45Speaker 4: win Saturday, obviously, but man, I mean, they, they picked
- 50:49Speaker 4: us to finish what kind of towards the end of
- 50:51Speaker 4: the conference first year.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 50:53Speaker 4: Here we are like, When I saw our logo in
- 50:56Speaker 4: that college football playoff scenario, I guess it was one
- 51:00Speaker 4: person that picked it. I thought to myself, wow, Demi
- 51:04Speaker 4: Coltshield for a moment.
- 51:06Speaker 1: How could it not? Basketball season, we got our first
- 51:09Speaker 1: exhibition game tomorrow night. Are you equally as excited about
- 51:13Speaker 1: basketball or is really football taking over like it has
- 51:15Speaker 1: with me?
- 51:18Speaker 4: Uh, you know, football's kind of taken over. I am
- 51:20Speaker 4: pretty excited about basketball. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not exactly, uh,
- 51:23Speaker 4: jumping over the couch or anything just yet, but, uh,
- 51:27Speaker 4: I will be watching tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to
- 51:29Speaker 4: watching on TV. So we have, I mean, I think
- 51:31Speaker 4: we're going to be a lot better than what the
- 51:32Speaker 4: media is portraying us to be. I did see a
- 51:34Speaker 4: nice article that Dick Vitale wrote last night, kind of
- 51:36Speaker 4: gave us a little bit of praise, which was good
- 51:38Speaker 4: to see. Cause it seems like everyone's kind of down
- 51:40Speaker 4: on Mark Pope right now with his third pressure. You know,
- 51:45Speaker 4: do we have any elite guys? I'm not sure. I
- 51:47Speaker 4: think we got a couple. I mean, I have no idea.
- 51:49Speaker 4: But I really hope that, you know, we can win
- 51:52Speaker 4: some ballgames. And I'd love to see us, you know,
- 51:55Speaker 4: win that Champions Classic game against Kansas. That's my first
- 51:59Speaker 4: big game we need to win.
- 52:02Speaker 3: J.D., how about with your son? Are you passing this
- 52:05Speaker 3: all down to him? Is he kind of buying into
- 52:07Speaker 3: the whole Kentucky thing?
- 52:09Speaker 1: Or how's that all going?
- 52:11Speaker 4: He's kind of buying into it, yes. I know when
- 52:13Speaker 4: I grew up, you know, as a kid his age,
- 52:16Speaker 4: you know, we were watching Kentucky games all the time.
- 52:18Speaker 4: I grew up watching all those former, you know, great
- 52:20Speaker 4: Kenny Walker, Rex Chapman, you know, the Unforgettables. And so
- 52:24Speaker 4: he did kind of excite me the other night. He
- 52:29Speaker 4: came running in the living room and sat down on
- 52:31Speaker 4: the couch and was, you know, watching the dunk contest
- 52:34Speaker 4: with me and stuff like that. So it was really
- 52:36Speaker 4: kind of– it kind of gave me a sense of
- 52:37Speaker 4: more pride to see him like actually– get excited, but
- 52:40Speaker 4: I didn't even say anything to him to come in there.
- 52:42Speaker 4: And you know, he knows that Kentucky was playing on TV.
- 52:44Speaker 4: So I did love that.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. And how could you not JD Shelburne's with us,
- 52:49Speaker 1: JD kind of give us, are you coming up this
- 52:51Speaker 1: way anytime soon to play or what's on your list
- 52:55Speaker 1: in your schedule?
- 52:56Speaker 4: I will actually, I will actually be in Louisville Saturday
- 52:59Speaker 4: after Saturday afternoon. I'm actually I'm doing a private show
- 53:02Speaker 4: in Nashville tonight for U.S. Bank, which I'm pumped about,
- 53:04Speaker 4: but I'll be up there Saturday for the third year
- 53:06Speaker 4: in a row. I'm playing the Portland Fall Festival over
- 53:09Speaker 4: there near Westport Road. I'm doing a show. We play
- 53:12Speaker 4: at 1230 on Saturday. This is our third year in
- 53:14Speaker 4: a row playing for the Portland Christian School. We'll do
- 53:16Speaker 4: an acoustic trio thing at 1230 and 230 on Saturday,
- 53:20Speaker 4: so we're looking forward to being up there and playing
- 53:24Speaker 4: that area. I've got a couple more shows before the
- 53:26Speaker 4: end of the year in Louisville, so looking forward to
- 53:28Speaker 4: getting up there.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I'm glad to hear that. So, Do you have anything
- 53:32Speaker 1: else you want to ask birthday boy? Are you good
- 53:33Speaker 1: to go? I'm good to go.
- 53:35Speaker 3: I appreciate you taking some time for us, JD. I was,
- 53:37Speaker 3: that was pretty cool of you to call in and
- 53:39Speaker 3: thank you for the birthday wishes as well.
- 53:42Speaker 4: Hey, anytime that Michael Bennett wakes me up, I'll do
- 53:44Speaker 4: whatever he says.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. I woke you up, JD, but it's
- 53:50Speaker 1: always fun here in front of me, my friend, but
- 53:53Speaker 1: safe travels on the road out there. Okay. Let's go
- 53:55Speaker 1: write that number one hit next.
- 53:57Speaker 4: Get us to the football playoffs.
- 54:00Speaker 1: You will be my guest if we go to the playoffs.
- 54:02Speaker 1: We're going together, okay?
- 54:04Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 54:05Speaker 1: All right, buddy. That's J.D. Shelburne right there.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Happy birthday, man.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Thank you. I just tried to give you a little
- 54:12Speaker 1: surprise out there, and you answered the phone and then
- 54:15Speaker 1: hung up. But anyway. He said what he needed to
- 54:17Speaker 1: say when I picked up the phone. He said what
- 54:20Speaker 1: he needed to say, but not on the air.
- 54:22Speaker 3: I don't know why I didn't put it together that
- 54:24Speaker 3: he was going to come on with us.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I don't know. That was just a lapse of judgment. Okay.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I just had a donut in my Yoohoo over here. Oh,
- 54:31Speaker 1: my gosh. I'm kind of on a sugar crash right now.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Can I tell you, I have only had a third
- 54:36Speaker 1: of the donut. And you're full? No, it's not that
- 54:39Speaker 1: I'm full. It is going straight to my head. I mean,
- 54:42Speaker 1: I'm kind of getting the shakes over here. Because, you know,
- 54:45Speaker 1: I hadn't had this kind of sugar in a long time. Yeah,
- 54:47Speaker 1: it's true. It's like, okay. I have to say, there
- 54:51Speaker 1: is a guy out there named, let me get to it.
- 54:54Speaker 1: It's Gator Analytics on Twitter. He is becoming my new
- 54:59Speaker 1: favorite follow, maybe. And he did a really cool one
- 55:05Speaker 1: just a few days ago. Or, no, yesterday. Asking the
- 55:11Speaker 1: most hated person in the SEC. And there's one that
- 55:17Speaker 1: I'm not surprised about who's number one. But then you
- 55:20Speaker 1: get down the list. I'm kind of surprised about a
- 55:23Speaker 1: couple of them here. And then you go a little
- 55:25Speaker 1: further down the list. I'm really surprised about one. But
- 55:29Speaker 1: let me go through this. And this is he's truly
- 55:32Speaker 1: gone to analytics. It's analysis who tracked banter across SEC subreddits. Okay? Okay.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Does that make sense? Now, no surprise, the number one
- 55:47Speaker 1: hated person in the SEC is one Lane Kiffin. But
- 55:52Speaker 1: number two surprises me. Number three, not necessarily. And number
- 55:57Speaker 1: four really surprises me. So number two is Oklahoma quarterback
- 56:02Speaker 1: John Mateer.
- 56:04Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 56:05Speaker 1: That's exactly was my response. Shane Beamer is number three. Now,
- 56:11Speaker 1: I know UK fans really dislike him, but I didn't
- 56:14Speaker 1: know everybody outside of Big Blue Nation would dislike him
- 56:17Speaker 1: as much as they do as well. Number four really
- 56:22Speaker 1: surprised me. Are you ready for this? Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
- 56:28Speaker 1: As the most hated person in the SEC. I think
- 56:31Speaker 1: we're using the word hated wrong here. Oh, we are?
- 56:34Speaker 2: Why?
- 56:35Speaker 3: Because I don't think John Mateer and Arch Manning are hated.
- 56:40Speaker 3: I just think people hate on their game because they
- 56:42Speaker 3: are overrated.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Well, it says it rates it by negative mentions per 1,000 comments.
- 56:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, just think about it. John Mateer and
- 56:51Speaker 3: Arch Manning are getting all kinds of negative comments. But
- 56:54Speaker 3: I don't think it's, again, I don't think it's a
- 56:55Speaker 3: hate thing. I think it's just based on their play.
- 56:58Speaker 3: If it's a negative comment, to me, that's the part
- 57:00Speaker 3: of being hated. I can go on a message board
- 57:03Speaker 3: right now and be like, John Mateer stinks. That dude's horrible.
- 57:06Speaker 3: And that's going to go down as a negative comment,
- 57:08Speaker 3: but that's not me hating John Mateer.
- 57:10Speaker 1: All right. That's just me hating his game. Okay.
- 57:12Speaker 3: Whereas with Lane and Beamer, I think theirs probably is
- 57:16Speaker 3: more hate because they're goofballs.
- 57:18Speaker 1: All right. Brent Vindables is number five. Really? Steve Carseesian. Sarkeesian. Sarkeesian,
- 57:24Speaker 1: whatever it is, is number six. Eli Drinkwitz is seven.
- 57:29Speaker 1: He should be higher. Really? Mike Elko is eight.
- 57:33Speaker 5: Really?
- 57:34Speaker 1: Really? What did Mike Elko do to anybody? I think
- 57:39Speaker 1: it's all the Texas fans is what it comes down to.
- 57:41Speaker 1: A & M fans? It's all the A & M
- 57:42Speaker 1: fans that are going out there and going off on
- 57:44Speaker 1: Venables and Mateer and Elko. Yeah. Jeff Lebby from Mississippi
- 57:50Speaker 1: State is nine. Alex Golish, the brand-new coach at Auburn,
- 57:56Speaker 1: is 10.
- 57:56Speaker 4: Okay.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Clark Lee is 11. I'm done here. Exactly. Here's the
- 58:01Speaker 1: one that really surprised me. Are you ready for who's
- 58:05Speaker 1: 16 out of the top 20 are? Sure. 16 is
- 58:08Speaker 1: Mark Stoops, and he's not even at UK anymore. He's
- 58:11Speaker 1: at Texas. No, but they have him listed. They're listing
- 58:16Speaker 1: him as a UK. And so, yeah, I was kind
- 58:20Speaker 1: of surprised about that. The least hated was Kalen DeBoer. What?
- 58:24Speaker 1: That's exactly my response, too. How's Kalen DeBorn out at? See,
- 58:29Speaker 1: I thought he'd be a lot higher. Yeah. Nick Saban
- 58:33Speaker 1: is right behind Mark Stoops at 17. So there you go. Yeah,
- 58:37Speaker 1: if you want to go check this out. I really
- 58:39Speaker 1: like this guy because he puts up some interesting analytics.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Of course, he's a Florida fan, but it's called Gator Analytics.
- 58:48Speaker 1: I love how he says this. At Gator Data 88.
- 58:52Speaker 1: So that's great. But, yeah. Good data. Yeah, it is
- 58:57Speaker 1: good data. So one person texted in, Scoots, the unthinkable
- 59:03Speaker 1: and unstoppable book is sold out on Amazon. I will
- 59:07Speaker 1: order it when it is replenished. Oh, that's a bummer.
- 59:10Speaker 3: What are we talking about? That's the Indiana book I
- 59:13Speaker 3: got on Monday. I didn't tell you about that? No,
- 59:15Speaker 3: you didn't tell me about that. So there was a
- 59:17Speaker 3: book came out recently. It's called Unthinkable to Unstoppable. And
- 59:20Speaker 3: it's just about Indiana football the last couple of years.
- 59:23Speaker 1: That's from Jimmy Ref. Yeah, it's.
- 59:25Speaker 3: Awesome really i've read i i cannot put it down
- 59:29Speaker 3: i have been controlling myself and only reading one chapter
- 59:32Speaker 3: a night but last night i literally we got to
- 59:35Speaker 3: the signetti part where he was hired and i couldn't
- 59:37Speaker 3: stop i think i read five chapters last night.
- 59:39Speaker 1: Really yeah it's awesome okay uh i i know uh
- 59:44Speaker 1: one particular person is going to like this uh And
- 59:47Speaker 1: that's John. The Phillies made it official and dropped the
- 59:51Speaker 1: interim manager with Don Mattingly. John's not going to like that, though. Oh, really?
- 59:56Speaker 3: Because he wanted to fire Aaron Boone and hire Mattingly.
- 59:59Speaker 1: At the Yankees. Oh, is that what he wanted? Okay, yeah.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: I'm sure he's happy for him. The Phillies. That's what
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I figured. I figured he'd be happy for him. But, yeah,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: he led the team to a 79-55 right after they
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: fired the other manager who lost 10 of the first
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: 19 games. So good for Don Mattingly. Some guys just
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: have it. Some guys just don't. It's crazy how some
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: do in baseball. Because coaching, being the manager of a
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: baseball team is different than like coaching basketball and football,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: isn't it? Yeah, absolutely. It is managing. But I thought
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: that was good for him. I was happy for him.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: By the way, I don't know if you saw this.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: The Brewers are now 3-0 over the Dodgers. Yeah. What
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: do you think of that?
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: I think it's not the series that I thought it
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: was going to be.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Here's what I think. It's a huge, gigantic sigh of
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: relief from the entire country because they're so sick of
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: the Dodgers.
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: It is, but it's also a disappointment because going in,
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: this felt like a series that was going to be awesome.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: I was fully anticipating seven games. We're not going to
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: get that, and that sucks.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Yeah, well. But I am any time the Dodgers.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Uh, do you like what, uh, well, we got to
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: take a break, don't we?
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: All right. Let's go ahead and take a break. Uh,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: when we come back, uh, we'll have a couple of
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: minutes and then we'll have Kenny Brooks on the head
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: basketball coach. Yeah. UK, uh, women's basketball team. I'm looking
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: forward to that because I, again, another little present for you. And, uh, I,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I think, uh, we'll, we'll get a little birthday wish
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: out of him as well towards you. So anyway, stay
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: right there. More, just the cats coming right up.
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: This American pie Sweet home out.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Of Babylon Cuts like a.
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: Knife I was free falling She was born to be
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: wild There's a girl to my left headed home with
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: a hunts. Gonna try to catch them both.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: 502-384-1450.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: If you want to call in, that was fun having
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: a JD on for a few minutes, even though you
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: hung up on him, but, uh, Jeez, man. Please don't
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: hang up on the next call, okay? Oh, I won't.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I know he's sketchy. My goodness. So, yeah, let's make
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: sure he comes on the air, not just talk to
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: you for a few minutes, okay? He might not wish
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: you happy birthday when you answer the phone. That was
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: very selfish of me, wasn't it? Absolutely. By the way,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: speaking of kind of crazy news, I don't know if
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: you saw this or not, but defensive lineman– Sebastian Blue
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: has decommitted from UofL. I did see that. He's the
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Trinity kid, right? Yeah, the Trinity kid. Three star. Something's
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: going on. Yeah. What's happening with big dog? I, uh,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: isn't that bark? I don't know, man. I, uh, it's, it's,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: it's a little uncomfortable right now, but, uh, maybe he
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: wants to consider UK too. So, I mean, that's the
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: hot thing right now. It's like, why, why, why do
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I want to do that when I can go to
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: the big boy school and play in the sec and
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: play in the sec. Exactly. So I just, it's interesting
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: what's going on. And I listen, I'm not wishing ill
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: because they're they're my good friends over there. But it's
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: just it's got to be a tough road right now.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: So as we wait on Coach Brooks to call in,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I I don't know if you saw this or not. Justin,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: you let me know when the phone rings. OK, a
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: person in Austin, Texas, bought an interesting box from a
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: yard sale. Did you see this story? I did not.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: The box contained World War II memorabilia. Are you ready
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: for what it had?
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Six live grenades.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: They bought from a yard sale six grenades that come
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: to find out the Austin Bomb Squad was called and
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: determined they were, in fact, very live, but did not
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: pose an immediate threat. I'm like, wait a minute. If
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: they're alive, don't they pose an immediate threat? I guess
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: they do because you're on the phone. So I just
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: thought that was one of the craziest things I ever heard.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: No one was charged, but I'm trying to figure out
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: why would somebody put into a box six bombs or
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: grenades and just leave them there? I mean, you're talking
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: about something that's 80 years old. You don't know what's
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: going to happen with those things. But anyway.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: By the way, I will answer that after we get
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: the greatest coach on Kentucky's campus. Coach Kenny Brooks joining us.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: What do you say, Coach Brooks? This is Michael Bennett.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: How you doing?
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: Mike, how you doing, man? Thanks for the introduction, but
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: after that win on Saturday, I don't know if I
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: can even dare to take that claim.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Oh, come on now. No, yes, you can, because you
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: know what? We've got all kinds of faith in Kenny Brooks.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: You are bringing back the brand of Kentucky that you
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: say you have claimed this is a different type of
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: school because of the brand. Talk about what you mean
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: when you're talking about the brand.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: It's just a brand, man. Whenever you think Kentucky, it
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: obviously is synonymous with basketball. One of the reasons I
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: always had a dream, I wore the Power K when
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: I was younger and living in Virginia, although I will
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: have to admit I was saying the K's there for Kenny. Nonetheless,
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: it's a full circle moment. Full circle moment that I
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: get to don the K and just go out. When
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: we go out, when I go out and recruit, doors
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: are open that haven't been open for me before just
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: because I'm associated with Kentucky. And that just gives us
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: the opportunity to recruit high-level young women and bring it
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: in and try to position ourselves to win championships.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Well, you know, you've talked, you mentioned the players that
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you're bringing in. Of course, you brought three, not just one,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: not just two, but three McDonald's All-Americans. I mean, what
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: kind of impact do you see them making early with
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: this team?
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: They'll make an impact for sure. All three have been
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: as advertised so far during the 16, 17 practices we've had.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: They're high-level IQ players. They work hard, and they still
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: have a lot to learn. But there's no doubt in
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: my mind that they're going to be major contributors for us.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: I don't know if they'll start. One might.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Two might.
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: They're putting themselves in a position to at least be
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: in contention for that. But I've been very pleased with
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: them and the way they've performed so far this year.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Of course, we're talking about Madden Greenway, Savvy Swords, who
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I love. She's got the greatest name ever, Savvy Swords,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: to be able to be playing for UK, donning that blue.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: I love that name. I'm rooting for her. I'm rooting
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: for all of them. And Emily McDonald, who another– here
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: she is, a McDonald's All-American, and she's truly a McDonald's
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: on top of it all. But, yeah.
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: Well– In the day and age of NIL, they all
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: have some cool things going for them. So they get
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: out on the court, and they perform well. Savvy, she
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: does have a great name. We like to call her Savage,
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: but she's so kind-natured, she doesn't even like to be
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: referred to as Savage. But she plays that way, and
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: then they all have something. But they're even better people
- 1:07:34Speaker 6: than they are basketball players, and that's a testament to them,
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: their families. Just the way that they represent, I'm just
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: so excited and very proud. It's like a proud papa
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: moment when we put them out there on the stage,
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: when we put them out there to mingle with our fans.
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: Just the way that they represent our program.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: Coach, I'm curious, when you look up and down this roster,
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: outside of those three All-Americans, freshmen that are coming in,
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: You've got a stacked roster. I mean, between O'Neal, I
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: know you're really excited about Sivka, obviously Clara Strack.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I'm curious, how deep do.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: You intend to go this season? Do you want to
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: go 10, 12 deep? Is that too many? Do you
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: want to eventually cut down the roster? Because if that's
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: the case, I do not envy you having to try
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: to make those decisions because you've got a stacked roster
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: Yeah, there are a lot of storylines that we have.
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: It's funny, when I go through media day or I
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: go through scenarios where they want to talk about our team,
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: You know, we continue to talk and talk and talk,
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: and you just named a whole bunch of names, and
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: you didn't even name Asia Boone.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: You made over 103 pointers for us last year. Or
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: Diana Collins, who started every game for Alabama last year.
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: So it's just, you know, a testament to my staff.
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: You know, we did a really good job in the
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: summer and the spring putting this roster together. It was
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: very intentional. We wanted players who really complemented each other,
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: not just throw out a collection of talent. But we
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: did a really good job of players who really, really
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: compliment each other. And the mainstay was to try to
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: get people to compliment Claire Strack and give her the
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: opportunity to work without double teams. And we feel like
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: we did that because pretty much everyone on our team
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: shoots the basketball. And so it So it's a daunting
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: task as a coach when you're deep, but I think
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: we definitely could go 9 or 10 deep this year,
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: and we're really, really excited about that.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: You know, Coach, every team needs players who become better
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: than expected. Who on this year's roster do you think
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: could surprise U.K. fans this season?
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: Well, I don't know if it would be a surprise
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: because she comes in so heavily decorated. But they haven't
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: seen her. And I would say the one who has
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: pleasantly surprised me more than anticipated would probably be Savvy Swartz.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: And it's not because I didn't anticipate her to be
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: great right out of the chute, but she's well beyond
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: her years. She plays like a Wally veteran. She plays
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: like she's been in college for a few years, understands
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: the system, her versatility. I've had her play in four
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: positions for me already this fall as a freshman, and
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: she hasn't missed a beat. I mean, she just understands it.
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: She gets it. She knows our pace. And I just,
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: I keep trying to stump her and we can't, you know,
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: and she knows, she knows the plays from every position
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: and she goes out there seamless, whether she's playing in
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: the post or in a perimeter. And I knew she
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: was going to be good, but you never know about
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: freshmen until they get there. And she's well beyond her years,
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: and I'm so excited about her.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Let's talk about this year's team. Is it going to
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: be a team that wins with defense, transition offense, physicality, shooting,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: or could it be something else completely different?
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: You know, to be honest, we're trying to figure out
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: our identity right now. And for a coach in this
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: day and age, for a coach who says they got
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: it all figured out, they're probably giving you coach speak
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: because with the transfer portal, that's all you're really trying
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: to do is just trying to build that chemistry and
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: trying to figure, you know, who fits where, who plays
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: well with who. So, you know, I would definitely say
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: our offense is ahead of our defense right now. And especially,
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: you know, you coaches, you know, we go through this
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: period of time right now where if your offense looks
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: really good, You can get mad because your defense is
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: not good. You know, if your defense is good because
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: you're scrimmaging against each other, then you're like, okay, my
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: offense is not really good. So we won't really know
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: until we start playing against some other people. But if
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: I would have to guess right now, we're going to
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: be a fun team to watch offensively. We still have
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: to form our identity on the defensive end.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: You know, you've talked about that chemistry before. You mentioned
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: it yesterday at SEC Media Days. By the way, did
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: you have a good time yesterday?
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: Well, yesterday was a busy day. After that, I got
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: back from Alabama, and I went and had to speak
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: to a contingency of about 500 people. Holy cow! It
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: was a busy day, but whenever I get to talk
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: about my girls, it's always.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: A good day. Yeah, and that's the way when I
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: talk about my horses. I mean, it's a great day
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: when I get to do that, because you're right. But
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: talk about the chemistry because in this day and age
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: of NIL and the transfer portal, that's got to be
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: difficult to really establish that identity every single year. How
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: do you do it? Is it difficult every year to
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: get that chemistry going with a team quickly?
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: It is difficult. Obviously, you have to be very intentional
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: in your recruiting and you have to make sure that
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: you're going to get kids who are willing to sacrifice
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: a little bit of themselves for the betterment of the team.
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: And so we went out in the spring, and there
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: were a lot of people who had great stat lines
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: and storylines, but we felt like they just wouldn't be
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: a good fit for what we were looking for. And
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: as we assembled this team, talent obviously is up there.
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: But we also wanted humble kids. Kids were going to
- 1:13:00Speaker 6: come in, and we did a really good job. We
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: hit jackpot with that because they're a great group of
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: young ladies to be around. You know, they don't get
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: in trouble. They're 3.5 in the classroom. They're always on
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: time for meetings. And so how you do anything is how.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: You do everything.
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: If they're conscious about all of that, they're going to
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: be conscious about their basketball. And we've been right. And
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: they work hard.
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: They get along.
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: They're fun-loving. They laugh. They smile. But they also know
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: when to turn it on and to get really serious
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: about basketball. So we've got a great group to start with.
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: We're not there chemistry-wise yet. We're still learning each other.
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: But I think that's going to be the process for
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: a while. And as long as you can win while
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: you're learning, it's going to be a good thing.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you would not have liked me as one of
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: your players. 3.5, I mean, I would be barely 2.0.
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: But, you know, I also would say this. You know,
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: it's the evolution of college athletics. You know, they do
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: have brands. They do have opportunities. And as an old
- 1:14:02Speaker 6: school coach, you know, I've had to bend a little
- 1:14:03Speaker 6: bit for maybe a photo shoot here or there. But,
- 1:14:07Speaker 6: you know, it's part of the process now. And as
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: long as we all can bend a little bit and
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: understand it and evolve, I think it works out for
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: both parties.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: You know, the SEC, as you go through this gauntlet
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: again this year, is as talented again this season. But
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: what separates the teams that are good in this league
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: from the teams that can win the conference this and
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: contend for a national championship?
- 1:14:28Speaker 6: Well, I think we all have talent. You know, you
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: look up and down the landscape of the SEC. Everyone's
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: got talented players. Some probably a little bit more than others.
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: But what I think is going to be the most
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: important thing is the chemistry aspect because we're all implementing
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: freshmen or implementing transfers. Not a lot of teams. There's
- 1:14:50Speaker 6: some who have, you know, A lot of people coming
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: back are really important people coming back. But I think
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: the teams that really understand each other and gain that
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: chemistry the quickest or the best, they're going to be
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: the teams to be successful because everyone's loaded with talent.
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: And I think the deciding factor is going to be
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: the chemistry and just the willingness to play with each other.
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: And that's how teams are going to separate themselves in
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: the SEC.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about Clara Strack, your All-American that came back,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: thank goodness, averaged 17 points last year, 10 rebounds. I mean,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: she could do everything. What parts of her game has
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: improved this year? I mean, how good can she become?
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: Yeah, as a.
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: Perfectionist, you know, all people want to make leaps and
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: bounds as opposed to where they were. But when you
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: get to a point and you're already great, then those
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: leaps and bounds are going to be like little incremental steps.
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: So she's taking really a focus on fine-tuning a lot
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: of the little things, footwork. We really worked on her
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: three-point shot this summer and this fall. We shoot them
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: every day, and I think that's the last element of
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: her game in order to make her even better, is
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: to be consistent with her three-point shot. We stat every practice,
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: and we tally it up. We have cumulative stats for
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: the preseason. And she's made more three-pointers than anybody on
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: our team.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: Yeah. So that's been the next evolution of her greatness.
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: But I would probably say the biggest jump that she's
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: made that would be most impactful for us is her
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: leadership qualities. You know, for years she's always been the
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: youngest on the team. She's still not 21 years old yet.
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: She won't turn 21 until the middle.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Of the winter.
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: But we've always put so much on her shoulders and
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: responsibility that's probably been beyond her years. But this year,
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: after watching Georgia Amor and watching Tiani Key lead our teams,
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: she's ready to step up and be that leader. And
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: I've noticed it. I've noticed how she's changed in the past.
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: She might have been barking at her teammates for not
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: doing something right just because she didn't really have that
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: understanding of how to lead people. And now I can
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: see her pulling people to the side, and I can
- 1:17:11Speaker 6: see her saying it in a manner that, you know,
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: the players want to follow her. And that's just a
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: tremendous asset that we will have because when your best
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: player is your best leader, then it's easy for the
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: other players to follow.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: And that makes your job easier as well, right? Absolutely.
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: Oh, gosh. People want to give me a lot of
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: credit and a lot of things, but I've been very
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: fortunate to have my best player always be my best leader.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: And it makes my job a lot easier.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: I'm sure it does. When you're looking at this team
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: right now, what is the biggest question mark on this team?
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: Well, I think the toughness aspect. And I don't want
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: to alarm people. I just don't know yet. You don't
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: know someone until you've actually been in the trenches with them.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: And I've only been in the trenches with Asia Boone
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: and Clara Strack and Gabby Brooks. And so the others
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: I've watched from afar and I anticipate– But you've got
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: to be able to go through it when adversity hits.
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: You don't know how people are going to react until
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: adversity hits. And that's going to be a deciding factor
- 1:18:18Speaker 6: because we're talented.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: We're tall.
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: I think one of the most unique aspects of our
- 1:18:23Speaker 6: team this year is that we're probably going to start
- 1:18:26Speaker 6: across the baseline 6'5, 6'5, 6'5. And they all can run,
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: they all can run past and shoot. And so that's
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: going to make us very unique, but okay, but how
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: tough can we be? Can we utilize that size to
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: our advantage? You know, when things get tough, are we
- 1:18:40Speaker 6: going to be able to come together? Those are all
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: things that are, you know, it's like just watching a documentary.
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: You don't know what's going to happen until it starts
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: to happen. And that's my job to continue. to make
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: sure that we are mentally tough. We are physically tough.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: You know, I know they can pass. I know they
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: can run. I know they can shoot. But, you know,
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: what happens when adversity hits?
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Is there another, I'm curious about this, is there another
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Division I coach that you talk to on a regular
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: basis that you consider a good friend, you feel comfortable
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: talking about basketball strategy, or just shooting the breeze with?
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: Absolutely. Sean Poppy. Sean Poppy was my associate head coach
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: at Virginia Tech for six years, and now he's the
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: head coach at Clemson. And as the basketball gods have it,
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: for some reason, and I'm winking, it's probably a storyline,
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: we get matched up with them in the SEC-ACC Challenge.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: I love that!
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:19:40Speaker 6: So, you know, he and I, we always have a pact.
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: We don't want to play each other because we do.
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: We share a lot.
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: I probably talk to him at least once a week,
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: maybe twice a week.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: Sometimes it's about basketball. Sometimes it's just about our families.
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: Sometimes it's just really good to have somebody that, you know,
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: in this ever-changing landscape of college athletics, is just somebody
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: to bounce ideas off or to just make sure that
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: I'm still sane because I don't understand a lot that's
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: going on. And when he tells me he doesn't understand
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: it either, then it makes me feel better. But we
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: vacation together.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: Yeah, he's somebody who really helped me develop. our program
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: at Virginia Tech. But he's more than just my assistant.
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: He's one of my best friends.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: So how's that going to be when y'all finally meet
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: up with each other and your two respective teams?
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: Well, I think they tried to pit us against each
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: other and thinking that it was going to be awkward.
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: But he's actually coming in, I think, a day or
- 1:20:38Speaker 6: two early and our families will get together. Our wives
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: have already said they're going to sit together and they'll
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: cheer for both teams.
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: And, you know, because.
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: It is competition, and I want to beat him in
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: the worst way, and he wants to beat me in
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: the worst way. But we have so much respect for
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: each other, for what we've done for each other in
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: our careers, that the game is not going to interfere
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: with that. We actually even share practices with each other
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: right now, even knowing that we're going to play each
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: other in December. But that's how confident we both are,
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: and you need to have that. Just that release, that outlet,
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: because not a lot of people understand, you know, what
- 1:21:21Speaker 6: we as head coaches go through, not even your assistant coaches.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: And so to have him to be able to, you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: just just unload or just, you know, have an ear,
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: somebody who actually. knows exactly what I'm going through. It's
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: such a pleasure.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: I'm sure it is because you know how much, are
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: you aware of how much you've made women's basketball fun
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: again at UK and how much the fan base just
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: absolutely loves what you've done. And for that fact, loves you,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Kenny Brooks.
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: Well, you know what? I have an inkling when, uh,
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: when we go out and Kentucky fans are so knowledgeable
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: and they're so respectful that, I can be out, and,
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: you know, I know somebody might know who I am,
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: but they'll wait until I'm finished eating, and they'll come over.
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: And the most powerful thing that I hear is, you know,
- 1:22:11Speaker 6: people will thank me for coming here. And it kind
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: of took me aback, you know, but it happens a lot,
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: and people will say that. And my wife just looked
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: at me one day, and she said, it is amazing
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: how in such a short time the people of Kentucky
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: have made us feel welcomed. And she, I mean, she's
- 1:22:31Speaker 6: blown away by it. And she asked me the other day,
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: she said, why didn't we come here earlier? And I said, baby,
- 1:22:37Speaker 6: we weren't offered a job earlier. So, but that's just
- 1:22:42Speaker 6: a testament to, you know, the fan base, the people here,
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: how they've made my family comfortable. I have adult children.
- 1:22:49Speaker 6: who have since, you know, moved on, and they want
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: to call Lexington home. They can't wait to get back
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: to Lexington. But, you know, we just love it here.
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: We love, you know, everything about it. Love the state.
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: Never lived outside of the state of Virginia before I
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: came here.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: And the people here have just made us feel, you know,
- 1:23:09Speaker 6: so much comfortable. And, you know, I just– you know,
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: I like good basketball. I like fun basketball. I don't
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: like the– the wrestling matches or the 45 to 43 game.
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: I want to be able to showcase our young ladies'
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: talents and how talented they are. without a wrestling match,
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: and so we try to play a style that's very
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: appeasing to the fans.
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: Well, Coach, take it from me. I'm an Indiana fan.
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: I've hated Kentucky my whole life, but I mean it
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: when I say I think you are the best coach
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: on campus, and Michael's right. You have made Kentucky basketball
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: a lot of fun, and I'm proud to say that
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: I'm a fan from afar, and you're doing a wonderful job.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: And by the way, coach, I scheduled you to come
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: on today because it's Justin's birthday and you are his
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: favorite UK coach. Absolutely.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: Well, tell him happy birthday. I appreciate that. You know,
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: like I said, it's been a blessing. Sometimes I have
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: to pinch myself. And when I say I'm the head
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: women's basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, it still
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: gives me chills.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Well, I can tell you, if I ever see you
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: out to dinner with your family, I'm interrupting. There's not
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: an empty chair. I'm dragging one over. I'm sitting down. Now,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: I will buy dinner, but I'm sitting with you. I'm
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: going to take up the entire time, and I apologize
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: if that ever happens.
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: Well, it's more than welcomed, and we appreciate it, and
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: we will oblige. We'll make sure we have conversation with you.
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: My wife will be okay with it.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Well, Coach, it's always fun having you on. I really
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: love it when you come on with us because you
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: just– hear the excitement that you've got in your voice.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Cause I know this is going to be the last
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: two years you've been here. It's just been so much
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: fun and it's going to be, and now you're really
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: building something. And I just want to commend you on that.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: And thank you as part of, from the heart of
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: big blue nation. Thank you so much.
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: Well, thank you guys. I love coming on and I
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: appreciate every, everybody, their support and you know, come out
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: and see us. It's going to be a really fun
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: team to watch. and it's one of my favorite teams
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: I've ever been around.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: Just because they do it the right way. They represent
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: our university, our program in the right way.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Well, Coach Kenny Brooks, thank you for taking the time
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: to join us today.
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: All right, guys, you have a great day.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: All right, good luck in the season. All right, that's
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Coach Kenny Brooks of the University of Kentucky Women's Basketball Team.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: How do you like that? The absolute man. Isn't he
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: fun to talk to? I'm not kidding. I love– I
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: get so excited between him, Craig Skinner, Will Stein now.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I mean, I just– to talk to these guys, it's
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: just so much fun. All right, we're going to take
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: our last break. Stay right there. One more segment of
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Just the Cats coming right up.
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: It's a calisthen on a combine steering wheel east wing
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: hammer driving nails and.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: 502-384-1450 you want to call 502-414-1450 you want to text
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: in i had one more person calling but you weren't
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: in the studio he's.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: On oh he is oh good bring him on oh
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: woo biggest man i've ever met in person woo orbsu what's.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: Up woo.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: How's it going, Justin? And happy birthday, buddy, man. I
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: hope Indiana will do good as football as Kentucky is
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: doing this year.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: Thanks, Lou. I appreciate it.
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: Oh, that's the perfect way to come into a show,
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: and I appreciate that. Lou, last time I checked, the
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: Hoosiers 6-0, Cats 5-1. One's better than the other.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Well, until this weekend. Tell them, Lou.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that tells you how much I follow Indiana, man.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: But I did renew my passport so I can come visit.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. Well, how many games have you gone
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: to the football team? Have you gone to many?
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I just missed the LSU one because
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: I knew it was going to be great, and I
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: wanted to watch it at home, and it delivered. The
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: deuces permanently stay up in the air. Everybody's getting the deuces.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: It doesn't matter where I walk in and walk out.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Well, are you headed to the basketball game tomorrow night, Wu,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: or Zoot?
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: No, I am not. I want to see this team
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: in the auction, and I'm tired of reading the injury report.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: Come on, we can't have a $ 20 million team and
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: four guys that are supposed to perform already looking for excuses.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: You see, I'm right there with you. Hopefully that's not
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: going to be the case.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Sounds like you're down on the basketball team, Luke. I,
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: you know, the, the, the expectation bar has raised times 10.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: It's, you know, it's whatever my company gives me a
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: budget to lift up a business off the ground, except results.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: So do I, that, that just natural, right?
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. It is natural. And you know what, if
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: you don't get the results, then we got to go
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: on to the next person because that's real life today
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: that's the reality of how you keep and lose a
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: job it's the results of it uh by the way
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: uh that was really bad news we got yesterday about
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: otago away going to miss the entire season due to
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: an achilles injury i don't know if you saw that
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: woo but uh His tendon was ruptured and had to
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: go through successful, thank goodness, successful surgery yesterday to repair
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: his Achilles.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awful. I feel for him. All the faults
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: go to his family, too. I know there are. full
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: of tremendous accomplished athletes and hopefully he will recover soon
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: and come back even stronger. But, but, but yeah, that's,
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: that's awful news.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is. So, all right. Well, I know
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: you got to go, but I thought, I appreciate you
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: calling in and wishing my buddy over here. Happy. We
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: miss having you on, on a regular basis that we do.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: Yes, we're going to do it more often now that
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: we have something to talk about, such as basketball. Good, bad,
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: or ugly. There are other sports like football and women's
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: volleyball I can't relate too much to, but I'm not
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: as versatile as you guys are.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: Oh, I think you're versatile, just not in the ways
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: you want to admit. So, Wu, Orbs, great having you
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: on for a few minutes. I really appreciate it.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: Talk to you later. Bye. All right.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: Take care, buddy. Let me get to a couple of
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: things real quick before we have to go. Patrick said,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: happy birthday, Scoots. I hope today treats you greatly. Thank you, Patrick.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: And then Michelle said, happy birthday, Justin. Thank you, Michelle.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Sent with loud effect. I love how. Did it really?
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: I mean. I'm loud, so it makes sense. You are
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: definitely loud. But we didn't get a chance to talk
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: about this. So John Calipari took the stage yesterday. saying,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: if I'm looking around in this room, most of you
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: don't really know basketball. That's when I don't miss Cal.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: I mean, he's not wrong. Yeah, but, I mean, is
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: that necessary to say, though? Probably not. That's the problem
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: I have right there. It's just not necessary to say
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: something like that. I just, I never understood, and it's
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: kind of one of the reasons I wanted to bring
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: up as the last topic, because I knew many people
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: wouldn't be listening today, At this point, but I didn't
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: like that. I don't know. I don't know how many
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: people are listening. By the way, tonight the Seahawks are
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: playing the Broncos at 7 o'clock. Don't tell me the spread.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: Spread's going to be 12 and a half. I don't know.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: I'm just guessing. I didn't know if you were going
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: to give it out or not.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: Why? No.
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: We play guess the spread on Spears on Thursdays.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: Oh, we do?
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: I didn't want to cheat. I have no idea what
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: the spread is. I don't pay attention to the spread
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: as much in professional sports. In professional sports. I do
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: in college. I don't know why I don't NFL and
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: NBA or baseball. That's interesting. Yeah, it is interesting because
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: it's kind of a crazy take. But anyway, so... I
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: hope you had a good birthday.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: Oh, it's been a great one. Yeah, and I appreciate
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: you for doing all that. Although, next year, let's not
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: go that route because you unintentionally created more work for me.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: Oh, come on! I'm trying to do less work on
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: my birthday. It wasn't a nice surprise to have Warbzude or... No,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I told you, thank you. I appreciate it. Or JB
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: come on, or... But yeah, it was a.
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: Lot of work for me.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: Okay, I'm sorry. I don't want to work on my birthday. Fine,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: I won't give you any work next year. Jeez, I'll just...
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: Tell people, sorry, we're not taking calls because of the
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: fact that we can't have Justin Markin over there.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: It was definitely a fun second hour. Yeah, and you
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: asked some great questions to Kenny Brooks.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah, so I think he legit, I was
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: told by the young lady that is his sports information
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: director that he really enjoys coming on this show, that
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: he has fun with us. He should. And he sounded
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: like he was having a good time with us. So anyway.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: I can't believe I ran through all those players, though,
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: and I didn't say Asia Boone.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: That was bad. That's okay. No, it's not. It's not
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: a bad move. I mean, that team, you're right, is
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: so deep this year. It's crazy. It's hard to keep
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: up with who's who. So, all right, how much time
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: do we have? About 30 seconds. 30 seconds.
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Tomorrow, we're going to talk about UK-Oklahoma, and then we've
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: got to get you ready for the basketball game, too.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I mean, UK, granted, it's an exhibition game, but we've
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: got UK Little Rock. What's that? And it's Little Rock. Yeah,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: I know, but still, we get to see basketball. That's true.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: I'm excited about it. Big weekend. So, we'll get you
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: ready tomorrow. Everybody, have a great day. Appreciate the phone
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: calls from JD, Coach Brooks, and as well, Woo Orbs.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: We'll see you tomorrow, everybody. Point the grills for the
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: hills of that green bell star.
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: Way on out. Like a man when we cross that
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: cattle guard.
