Speaker 2: saw through the other side of that. Now we're getting
• 0:15
Speaker 2: ready to start rolling. Now we're rolling.

• 0:46
Speaker 4: Listen, I will kick you off the show like just
• 0:50
  Speaker 4: with a button.
• 0:51
Speaker 5: Oh, don't listen to him.
• 0:52
Speaker 1: He kicks me off every week, Sterling. It's okay. You
• 0:56
Speaker 1: know what? Let me just say this. What's you all's record?
• 1:04
Speaker 2: Time to start the show. I'm undefeated personally.
• 1:07
  Speaker 4: There you go.
• 1:11
Speaker 1: But the team that you played for.
• 1:13
Speaker 2: If you're talking about my Green Bay Packers, we going
• 1:17
Speaker 2: through some things right now.
• 1:20
Speaker 1: We are too. We are too.
• 1:22
Speaker 4: Vikings winning. We're going through a couple things winning.
• 1:26
Speaker 2: You got the pool right now, but we'll be back.
• 1:29
Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Get this started.
• 1:31
Speaker 4: Can I even introduce the show? Can I even introduce
• 1:34
  Speaker 4: the show?
• 1:35
  Speaker 1: Sterling will.
• 1:36
Speaker 2: He just did that.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: He took care of that for you.
• 1:41
Speaker 2: Hey, Carl, you being redundant.
• 1:43
Speaker 4: I'm not redundant. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I guess we're
• 1:48
  Speaker 4: ready to go.
• 1:49
  Speaker 1: We're rolling.
• 1:50
  Speaker 2: We're rolling.
• 1:51
  Speaker 1: Bro, what's going.
• 1:54
Speaker 2: On with you? I'm just leaving the Marquis Grissom Foundation
• 2:01
Speaker 2: golf outing outside of Atlanta. I'm on the road for
• 2:06
Speaker 2: about two and a half hours. I'm going down, spend
• 2:09
Speaker 2: some time with my sister before she goes to Vegas,
• 2:13
Speaker 2: spend some time with my brother. So, you know, just
• 2:16
Speaker 2: got to make sure the old girl's still doing well
• 2:18
Speaker 2: and moving around and doing that kind of stuff.
• 2:20
Speaker 4: I hear you. I hear you. When I told my
• 2:24
Speaker 4: mom that you were going to be on the show,
• 2:26
  Speaker 4: she said, oh, that's good. I said, well, I didn't
• 2:28
Speaker 4: invite him. He just kind of invited himself. And she
• 2:31
Speaker 4: just busted out laughing.
• 2:34
Speaker 2: She knows the truth. She knows what's real.
• 2:37
Speaker 1: She knows how you work, you know. So, bro, I'm
• 2:41
Speaker 1: going to jump right into this.
• 2:43
  Speaker 2: So.
• 2:44
Speaker 4: When you look at, and I'm doing this as myself too,
• 2:49
Speaker 4: when you're looking at like the Packers, I'm looking at
• 2:52
Speaker 4: the Vikings, not necessarily wins and losses, but when you
• 2:56
Speaker 4: see them and you, is there any time that you
• 3:00
Speaker 4: like reflect on, hmm, what was that team, your team
• 3:04
Speaker 4: like versus their team?
• 3:07
Speaker 1: Like, How that fits?
• 3:10
Speaker 2: The similarities are I'm looking at them, and I know
• 3:16
Speaker 2: Josh Jacobs is on the commissioner's list and not playing.
• 3:20
Speaker 2: And I know Micah is still coming back from his injury.
• 3:25
Speaker 2: But I'm looking at them, and I'm like, okay, we
• 3:30
Speaker 2: kind of knew this coming into the season. And I
• 3:35
  Speaker 2: don't think we're in a position where we're looking, waiting
• 3:38
Speaker 2: for those two players to come back. I believe we
• 3:42
Speaker 2: have enough firepower, both offensively and defensively, to right the shift.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: But it seems like plays at inopportune times, whether it's
• 3:54
Speaker 2: incompletions or interceptions or drops or whatever the case may be,
• 3:59
Speaker 2: blown coverage on defense, it just seems like a little
• 4:03
Speaker 2: out of sorts. And I, you know, I'm looking at
• 4:07
Speaker 2: a football team that look, you have a lot of
• 4:10
Speaker 2: enough pieces in place that it should be better than
• 4:14
Speaker 2: what we saw. And I'm speaking as a fan should
• 4:18
Speaker 2: be better than what we saw against the Falcon. It
• 4:22
Speaker 2: should be better. It really should. And I know that
• 4:26
Speaker 2: they wanted to be better and, and, And I'm sure
• 4:30
Speaker 2: that coaching staff is doing everything they can to try
• 4:33
Speaker 2: to get their players in a position to make plays.
• 4:37
Speaker 5: Oh, Sterling, I don't know about you, but Thursday night
• 4:40
Speaker 5: was painful for me. I had people texting me and saying,
• 4:43
Speaker 5: I thought the Browns played on Sunday this week.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: And so, you know, I.
• 4:48
Speaker 2: Was feeling it. Sorry, ma'am. I almost hit somebody when
• 4:54
  Speaker 2: you said that.
• 4:55
Speaker 1: Hold on now. But I wanted to ask you about this, Sterling.
• 5:00
Speaker 5: So against the Falcons, the team managed 17 total rushing yards.
• 5:05
Speaker 5: They're the third worst NFL team for converting the third
• 5:09
Speaker 5: down at 19.1%. How do we turn those types of
• 5:14
Speaker 5: things around with the staff that we have and the
• 5:18
Speaker 5: coaches that we have in place?
• 5:20
Speaker 2: Well, you know, Lisa, to go back to what Carl
• 5:25
Speaker 2: was saying about, you know, when I was playing and
• 5:28
Speaker 2: we were going through a similar situation like this, you know,
• 5:32
Speaker 2: Mike Holmgren would always say to us, hey, look, you're
• 5:35
Speaker 2: our guy. So we're going to start starting. with you
• 5:40
Speaker 2: and let everything else branch out. Christian Watson seems to
• 5:45
Speaker 2: be back healthy. It seems like our tight end game
• 5:49
Speaker 2: has kind of disappeared a little bit, and I'm not
• 5:53
Speaker 2: sure what the case or why that is. Of course,
• 5:58
Speaker 2: Without Josh Jacobs, it seems like we have no intentions
• 6:03
Speaker 2: on running the ball. Yes. And yet I'm still watching
• 6:07
Speaker 2: play action. I'm saying to myself, okay, if you're not
• 6:12
Speaker 2: fooling me sitting on my sofa, you definitely ain't fooling
• 6:14
Speaker 2: people that have been paid to watch this. Sure. So
• 6:18
Speaker 2: I just think that they're going to have to start
• 6:21
Speaker 2: to zero some, you know, whether it's Christian Watson in
• 6:24
Speaker 2: the passing game or figure out how to get our,
• 6:26
Speaker 2: our tight ends more involved. I just think they're going
• 6:29
Speaker 2: to have to start with, with a zero and go
• 6:32
Speaker 2: from there. But it seems like, and I haven't played
• 6:36
Speaker 2: the game. I do not want to say this, but
• 6:39
Speaker 2: it looks like they, it looks like they don't know. Yes.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: You know, it's like, Hey, we're going to, you know,
• 6:45
Speaker 2: Jordan love is our quarterback and, and, We're going to
• 6:48
Speaker 2: put it all on him, but it just seems like
• 6:51
  Speaker 2: we're a half a step, three quarters of a step
• 6:55
Speaker 2: late on either protection or delivery or ball location. And
• 7:02
Speaker 2: so right now, I'm going to say that my team
• 7:06
Speaker 2: is struggling, but I just think they've got to get
• 7:09
Speaker 2: to a place where they can have a jumping off
• 7:12
Speaker 2: point and go from there.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: Go ahead, Olive. No, I was just about to say that.
• 7:16
Speaker 6: That's something that irritates me too when teams just do
• 7:18
Speaker 6: play action just to do it. I don't understand it,
• 7:21
Speaker 6: and you see it at all levels. And as much
• 7:24
Speaker 6: as we are into this modern football, the running game
• 7:28
Speaker 6: is still an integral part, and we see how that
• 7:30
Speaker 6: helps the quarterbacks. We see what it's doing for Patrick
• 7:33
Speaker 6: Mahomes and his comeback. What can they do in order
• 7:36
Speaker 6: to at least try to establish a running game or
• 7:39
Speaker 6: at least try to have the threat thereof?
• 7:43
Speaker 2: You know, Hollis, I love being this fan thing because
• 7:46
Speaker 2: when you're a fan, you can say what you want.
• 7:48
Speaker 2: Nobody holds you accountable. You know, Hollis, and I've always
• 7:54
Speaker 2: felt this way. If somebody makes our team, they are
• 7:59
Speaker 2: as valuable as I am. So if Josh Jacobs is
• 8:03
Speaker 2: not playing, whoever your backup running back is, he is
• 8:06
Speaker 2: now your Josh Jacobs. And you're going to have to
• 8:10
Speaker 2: be committed to to that individual. And I just, you know,
• 8:15
Speaker 2: and I'm taking this one game sample because it's the
• 8:18
Speaker 2: last game we saw. I'm watching them and they're not,
• 8:23
Speaker 2: I don't want to say committed. They don't have the
• 8:26
Speaker 2: intent on running the football. And when you don't have intent,
• 8:32
Speaker 2: you know, now I think a lot of the game
• 8:37
Speaker 2: you put in, like the play action pass game, it's
• 8:42
Speaker 2: kind of counterproductive because you have no intent on running
• 8:48
Speaker 2: the football. So if Jordan Love is your guy and
• 8:51
Speaker 2: Kristen Watson and the outside passing game is what you're
• 8:55
Speaker 2: hanging your hat on, let's come out and let's wing
• 8:58
Speaker 2: it 61 times. Because now I know, okay, we don't
• 9:03
Speaker 2: have a running game, so we're going to lean on
• 9:06
Speaker 2: our high-priced quarterback We're going to lean on our big
• 9:11
Speaker 2: wide receivers, and we're going to move it that way.
• 9:14
Speaker 2: I can live with that. But when I watch my team,
• 9:18
Speaker 2: it looks as though we're trying to be conventional without
• 9:23
  Speaker 2: the conventional pieces.
• 9:25
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 9:25
Speaker 4: Because if you can't run the ball, then... Most teams
• 9:30
Speaker 4: will spread it out and just start throwing the ball,
• 9:32
Speaker 4: which I'm thinking is what you're suggesting, that if they
• 9:36
Speaker 4: are not going to be able to run the ball
• 9:38
Speaker 4: and you can throw the ball, you should be, whether
• 9:42
Speaker 4: it's three wide receivers, four wide receivers, two receivers, back
• 9:46
Speaker 4: out of the backfield. You've got to find something. You
• 9:50
Speaker 4: can't stay on what you like as the coach. You
• 9:55
Speaker 4: can't do what you like when you don't have the
• 9:58
Speaker 4: players to do that.
• 10:00
Speaker 2: I agree. And, you know, Carl, I used to always say, hey, look,
• 10:06
Speaker 2: what the Green Bay Packers gave us on Thursday is
• 10:09
Speaker 2: pretty much what they practiced. They knew they didn't have
• 10:12
Speaker 2: Josh coming into this game. So it wasn't like they
• 10:16
Speaker 2: came in with a hope. that all of a sudden
• 10:20
Speaker 2: the running game was going to kind of balance out
• 10:22
Speaker 2: the passing game. They knew last Monday, they knew last Tuesday,
• 10:26
Speaker 2: they weren't going to intend to run the football, but
• 10:31
Speaker 2: they kept showing me that we're going to run this
• 10:36
Speaker 2: play action pass because if the running game two series
• 10:40
Speaker 2: ago would have worked, this is the play that can
• 10:42
Speaker 2: pass off of that. And so I was sitting there
• 10:46
Speaker 2: trying to get a grip on, What am I looking
• 10:51
Speaker 2: at not as a player, as a fan? What am
• 10:54
Speaker 2: I looking at? Okay, I know you don't have your
• 10:56
Speaker 2: stud running back, and I don't know your second and
• 11:01
Speaker 2: third running backs' names. So what are we looking at?
• 11:05
Speaker 2: What are we doing? And it just seems like, like
• 11:08
Speaker 2: I said, it just seemed like we were a half
• 11:11
Speaker 2: a step late pass protection where, you know, Jordan is
• 11:15
Speaker 2: getting ready to let it go, and he had to move.
• 11:19
Speaker 2: You know, Jordan was ready to let it go, and
• 11:22
Speaker 2: the coverage wouldn't allow him. It just seemed like we
• 11:24
Speaker 2: were half a step behind on what our intent was
• 11:30
  Speaker 2: in that game.
• 11:32
Speaker 5: Let me ask you this, Sterling, because what you're saying
• 11:34
Speaker 5: kind of relates to something that I had written down.
• 11:36
Speaker 5: And I feel like, just watching as a fan, like
• 11:39
Speaker 5: you are now too, that the offensive line is non-functional.
• 11:43
Speaker 5: Like Jordan Love, he's been hit, according to what I
• 11:46
Speaker 5: read today, 20 times.
• 11:48
Speaker 1: Over just three games.
• 11:50
Speaker 5: Do you feel like that the offensive line needs an overhaul,
• 11:52
Speaker 5: that that's part of their problem as well?
• 11:56
Speaker 2: We can't overhaul them in week three. Seems a little
• 12:02
Speaker 2: late and a little counterproductive. You know, my thing is this.
• 12:07
Speaker 2: Jordan Love doesn't call any plays. He doesn't.
• 12:10
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 12:10
Speaker 2: And we have 16,000 analysts and people that are breaking
• 12:16
Speaker 2: down the teams that we're going to play. And they're like,
• 12:19
Speaker 2: here's their strengths. Here's what we think will work. You know,
• 12:23
Speaker 2: I'm going to put it on the play callers and
• 12:26
Speaker 2: whether you want to say it's the offensive coordinator or
• 12:29
Speaker 2: the head coach, I'm putting it on them. If you,
• 12:33
Speaker 2: as a player, if, I found that our quarterback was
• 12:38
Speaker 2: getting rushed. My 14-yard route went to 12. I can
• 12:44
Speaker 2: handle getting a minus because I didn't get the proper
• 12:48
Speaker 2: depth in my route. But what I would counter and
• 12:53
Speaker 2: say is, hey, coach, you want the ball out of
• 12:56
Speaker 2: the quarterback's hands, right? And I did that. While I'm
• 13:01
Speaker 2: robbing Peter, I'm paying Paul.
• 13:03
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 13:04
Speaker 2: And so I just think that as a play caller,
• 13:07
Speaker 2: if you understand what you have on your offensive line, hey, look,
• 13:11
Speaker 2: we're going into week four. You knew coming out of
• 13:15
Speaker 2: training camp what you had.
• 13:17
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 13:18
Speaker 2: Now, if you came out of training camp with an
• 13:20
Speaker 2: offensive line that you hoped would be better passing the football,
• 13:25
Speaker 2: that's your fault. If you came out of training camp
• 13:29
Speaker 2: Hoping that Josh would be back so you could have
• 13:33
Speaker 2: that guy to help facilitate your play action pass game. Okay,
• 13:39
Speaker 2: you failed. You were wrong. And so I just think
• 13:42
Speaker 2: that you have enough plays, passing plays in your arsenal.
• 13:47
  Speaker 2: And that's why I always felt, and I don't like
• 13:50
Speaker 2: to use I, but I'm going to use it selfishly.
• 13:53
Speaker 2: I don't want to run posts and goals and digs
• 13:57
Speaker 2: and crossing routes and overs. Man, throw me hitches. Get
• 14:02
Speaker 2: it out of your hands. If I can get it
• 14:05
Speaker 2: out of your hands, your confidence goes up. Offensively, our
• 14:10
Speaker 2: offensive line's confidence goes up. Receivers' confidence goes up. I
• 14:16
Speaker 2: just think that Green Bay has enough quick passing game
• 14:20
Speaker 2: plays and their wide receivers are big enough to be
• 14:24
Speaker 2: able to handle, let's try and develop a rhythm of
• 14:29
Speaker 2: intent on what we're doing to stay on the field,
• 14:34
Speaker 2: third down, and to be able to give our defense
• 14:36
  Speaker 2: some rest.
• 14:37
Speaker 4: But doesn't that have to happen through either the head coach,
• 14:41
Speaker 4: what his philosophy is for his offense, or the offensive coordinator?
• 14:45
Speaker 4: And is that in their mindsets?
• 14:49
Speaker 2: Because I don't really think... I do believe that.
• 14:52
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 14:53
Speaker 2: I believe that, Carl. I believe that offensively, you should
• 14:58
Speaker 2: have a way, and I'm going to say communication, like, hey,
• 15:02
Speaker 2: offensive line is struggling a little bit, whether it's their
• 15:05
Speaker 2: scheme or their front. It looks like a little extra
• 15:09
Speaker 2: than what we saw on film. I think that you
• 15:13
Speaker 2: should be able to make adjustments Because you always got
• 15:19
Speaker 2: your quick game. Because your quick game is a lot
• 15:22
Speaker 2: of when you know the blitz is coming, we can
• 15:25
Speaker 2: just go to what we used to call smoke, which
• 15:28
Speaker 2: is just turn around and throw it out there to
• 15:30
Speaker 2: a receiver, or dragon, which is a slant, or Omaha.
• 15:34
Speaker 2: And if you're getting bump and run on Omaha, which
• 15:36
Speaker 2: is a quick out, we're going to fly it. So
• 15:39
Speaker 2: we're just going to throw it, give our receivers a
• 15:42
Speaker 2: chance to make plays. It looks as though the only...
• 15:46
Speaker 2: player that has a chance to make a play as
• 15:49
Speaker 2: jordan and he's not having enough time either play call
• 15:54
Speaker 2: wise protection wise he doesn't have enough time to orchestrate
• 15:59
  Speaker 2: that plan.
• 16:00
Speaker 6: So when your offense is struggling and you've been an
• 16:04
Speaker 6: analyst prior to you know before when your offense is
• 16:07
Speaker 6: struggling kind of what what What do coaches say to
• 16:11
Speaker 6: the special teams? What do coaches say to the defense?
• 16:14
Speaker 6: Are we saying to the defense now, hey, you got
• 16:16
Speaker 6: to be more opportunistic? You need to get some turnovers?
• 16:20
Speaker 6: Are we saying special teams, you got to make sure
• 16:21
Speaker 6: you are operating on all cylinders? Kind of does the
• 16:24
Speaker 6: onus fall on the other two sides of the ball,
• 16:27
Speaker 6: if you will, to sort of make up for.
• 16:29
Speaker 1: The lack of offense?
• 16:32
Speaker 2: I've always, I'm selfish in this way. If we're struggling offensively,
• 16:38
Speaker 2: in a league that every rule is set up for
• 16:41
Speaker 2: offenses to be successful. Every protection is where you can't
• 16:45
Speaker 2: hit me in the face or you can't get near
• 16:48
Speaker 2: my quarterback. If a team struggles offensively, I'm putting it
• 16:53
Speaker 2: on us. And I'm saying, Hey, maybe we should quicken
• 16:58
Speaker 2: this thing up. Coach use me to get it out
• 17:03
Speaker 2: of his hands. You know, you know, let, let me,
• 17:07
Speaker 2: I'm built to take this, you know, take these hits.
• 17:13
Speaker 2: I mean, because if I go down, you got six
• 17:15
Speaker 2: other guys that can replace me.
• 17:17
Speaker 1: So let me ask you this.
• 17:18
Speaker 2: You don't know who the backup quarterback is in Greenback.
• 17:20
Speaker 2: Do you want Jordan getting beat up the way he's
• 17:22
  Speaker 2: getting beat up?
• 17:23
  Speaker 4: No, no.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: Because that body is going to break down the way
• 17:26
Speaker 2: he's getting it. That body is going to break down.
• 17:29
Speaker 6: So to that point, have you ever just throughout your career,
• 17:32
Speaker 6: when you were playing in your career, did you ever
• 17:35
Speaker 6: bet buttheads with the offensive coordinator? For the reason, again, well,
• 17:40
Speaker 6: not because they had bad intent.
• 17:41
  Speaker 2: No.
• 17:41
Speaker 1: Because they just got.
• 17:42
  Speaker 2: No.
• 17:43
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 17:45
  Speaker 2: No. No.
• 17:46
Speaker 4: For me to hear him say that as that much
• 17:50
Speaker 4: of a no and knowing him as a friend, that
• 17:54
  Speaker 4: is hard for.
• 17:55
  Speaker 1: Me to imagine.
• 17:55
Speaker 6: Well, I guess what I'm asking is that sometimes offensive coordinators.
• 18:00
Speaker 2: Hollis, I think I'm on the same page with you.
• 18:02
Speaker 2: I want to show you. as a player, I never
• 18:06
Speaker 2: had a conversation with any of our quarterbacks during the game,
• 18:12
Speaker 2: rock adjustments, what I see on defense, what we should
• 18:16
Speaker 2: be doing. I never had a conversation with our quarterbacks
• 18:20
Speaker 2: during the game about that kind of stuff. Number two,
• 18:24
Speaker 2: I've always believed in the chain of command. Mike Holmgren,
• 18:29
Speaker 2: had I played longer, spoiled me. Because my head coach,
• 18:33
Speaker 2: who also called the plays, would be like, what do
• 18:36
  Speaker 2: you like?
• 18:37
Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I see where you're going.
• 18:40
Speaker 2: It seemed like we're getting some pressure, and we may
• 18:43
Speaker 2: not be able to run our Thursday game. mid game,
• 18:47
Speaker 2: a mid yardage passing game, our 14 yard ends and outs.
• 18:52
Speaker 2: And our, you know, we're, we're gonna basically have to
• 18:55
Speaker 2: go with a flanker drop and slants and stuff of
• 19:00
Speaker 2: that nature. How do you coach? I'm good. I'm good.
• 19:03
Speaker 2: You know what? I'll make it because now As a player,
• 19:08
Speaker 2: Mike Holmgren gave me ownership of what we did offensively.
• 19:14
Speaker 2: So I was a part of what he wanted to
• 19:17
Speaker 2: do on the game plan. Now, I never had that
• 19:19
Speaker 2: with my college coach. Never had that with my first
• 19:23
Speaker 2: coach in the NFL. But Mike Holmgren gave me ownership
• 19:27
Speaker 2: as in, hey, what do you like? What are you
• 19:30
Speaker 2: seeing out there? How's the huddle? How are guys reacting
• 19:33
Speaker 2: or responding to, you know, and I would just be like, hey, coach,
• 19:38
Speaker 2: everybody in the huddle is calm or, Hey, look, I
• 19:42
Speaker 2: don't know what you see, but if you need to
• 19:46
Speaker 2: speed things up, because mostly in everything, athletically, it's pace.
• 19:52
Speaker 2: In golf, you walk slow, you talk slow, you want
• 19:56
Speaker 2: to slow everything down because your mind speeds everything up. Okay,
• 20:02
Speaker 2: in football, if we're playing slow offensively, always felt we
• 20:08
Speaker 2: need to change the pace. Let's go. No huddle. Let's let's,
• 20:12
Speaker 2: let's jump in a quick two minutes just to kind
• 20:14
Speaker 2: of get everybody's juices blowing back into the speed of
• 20:20
Speaker 2: the game. You could attest to this. When you go
• 20:25
Speaker 2: to the playoffs, The pace of the game is so
• 20:28
Speaker 2: fast you can barely breathe. So I can't imagine how
• 20:31
Speaker 2: that pace increased in an NFC championship game or in
• 20:35
Speaker 2: a Super Bowl. Because I know in my first playoff game,
• 20:38
Speaker 2: I was lightheaded almost all day because the pace was
• 20:43
Speaker 2: so fast. And there is a finality to you. When
• 20:47
Speaker 2: you move on and you lose, you go home. So
• 20:50
Speaker 2: I believe in, hey, look, if Jordan Love is our
• 20:53
Speaker 2: guy because we don't have Josh Jacobs, I want to see,
• 20:57
Speaker 2: as a fan, change the pace. If Jordan Love's the guy,
• 21:02
Speaker 2: he can handle a change of pace. If Jordan Love
• 21:04
Speaker 2: is our guy, Christian Watson and the other receivers, get ready.
• 21:10
Speaker 2: Because if you are as good, or if you're the
• 21:14
Speaker 2: player you think you are, now you're getting a chance
• 21:17
Speaker 2: to prove it. And I used to always, you know,
• 21:20
Speaker 2: I used to always believe that When Tampa was struggling,
• 21:24
Speaker 2: going in there, having 10 catches and 100 and however
• 21:27
Speaker 2: many yards, that was good. Put up 10 catches against
• 21:30
Speaker 2: the Vikings. Put up 10 catches against the Bears. Put
• 21:34
Speaker 2: up 10 catches against the Cowboys. Because now you're helping
• 21:39
Speaker 2: the offense move. Everybody's doing it on a team, you know,
• 21:43
Speaker 2: when you find a team that's struggling. You know, and
• 21:46
Speaker 2: Tampa early on was struggling in my career.
• 21:48
  Speaker 6: So.
• 21:50
Speaker 2: I just think that somebody is going to have to
• 21:52
Speaker 2: wear the hat. And right now it looks like Jordan
• 21:56
Speaker 2: Love is the guy. So if Jordan Love is the guy,
• 21:59
Speaker 2: guess what? We're getting ready to go in the backyard.
• 22:02
Speaker 2: We're getting ready to take our shirts off. It's going
• 22:04
Speaker 2: to be shirts versus the skins. And we're getting ready
• 22:07
Speaker 2: to throw this thing around the lot. That's what I
• 22:09
Speaker 2: would do as a fan.
• 22:10
Speaker 1: I'm a little bit curious here.
• 22:12
Speaker 7: As players, in some of the circles that I follow
• 22:16
Speaker 7: for Wisconsin sports, I've seen some calls for coaching changes.
• 22:20
Speaker 7: Does the relationship for you as players with your coaches,
• 22:23
Speaker 7: like if you know that that seed is starting to
• 22:25
Speaker 7: get a little hot for the coaches and that they
• 22:27
Speaker 7: might be on the way out, does that change your
• 22:31
Speaker 7: relationship any or does that change the way you respond
• 22:33
  Speaker 7: to them any?
• 22:35
Speaker 2: No. I had a coach fired. I take full responsibility
• 22:42
Speaker 2: for that. I do. My first head coach in the
• 22:47
Speaker 2: NFL got fired. And now where, where some would say,
• 22:53
Speaker 2: you know, you, man, you were an all pro and
• 22:55
Speaker 2: you led the league and you did this. I take
• 22:58
Speaker 2: responsibility for that. I didn't do enough. Maybe I should
• 23:02
Speaker 2: have been more vocal in, in, in talking to him about,
• 23:06
Speaker 2: you know, maybe as a player, but that wasn't my MO.
• 23:10
Speaker 2: That wasn't how I was. If you talk to me,
• 23:14
Speaker 2: I'll talk to you. If you were coach, You know,
• 23:17
Speaker 2: I never really tried to exceed my pay grade. So
• 23:22
Speaker 2: I'm not going to the offensive coordinator to say we
• 23:24
Speaker 2: need to do this. I'm not going to the head
• 23:27
Speaker 2: coach saying we need to do this. It was more
• 23:29
Speaker 2: of a having a conversation with my position coach or,
• 23:33
Speaker 2: like I said, Mike Holmgren, who is the best coach
• 23:37
Speaker 2: I've ever had, and no diss to William Hall or
• 23:40
Speaker 2: Buddy McCall or Joe Morrison. Mike Holmgren talked to me. Yes.
• 23:47
Speaker 2: And gave me ownership of what we were doing on offense.
• 23:50
Speaker 2: And I really and truly enjoyed that because now I
• 23:54
Speaker 2: felt like I was not only a part of the process,
• 23:58
Speaker 2: but a vested interest in how, because, you know, it's
• 24:02
Speaker 2: easy with 11 guys. It's easy for you to go
• 24:04
Speaker 2: coach the quarterback, you know, so I'm not going to go.
• 24:08
Speaker 2: And I always laugh and I listen and sometimes cringe
• 24:12
Speaker 2: when I hear my other receiver counterparts talk about, you know,
• 24:16
Speaker 2: Keyshawn Johnson wrote a book that says throw him the
• 24:19
Speaker 2: damn ball. I never, no quarterback can ever tell you
• 24:26
Speaker 2: that I went up to them during a game and
• 24:29
Speaker 2: said anything about what was going on on that field.
• 24:33
Speaker 2: If there's one thing I took pride in, it was
• 24:37
Speaker 2: I'm going to do my job better than anyone else
• 24:39
Speaker 2: does anything else. But I'm not adding to what that
• 24:43
Speaker 2: guy is already going through. He's got a quarterback coach.
• 24:46
Speaker 2: He's got an OC. And he's got a head coach
• 24:49
Speaker 2: talking to him. He's got the center. You know, who
• 24:52
Speaker 2: are we labeling as this guy or that guy? So
• 24:55
Speaker 2: he had enough guys talking to him that guess what?
• 24:59
Speaker 2: He really didn't need me to add my voice.
• 25:04
Speaker 4: And you know that what's interesting about hearing you say
• 25:07
Speaker 4: that and the question as a whole, I can remember.
• 25:12
  Speaker 1: When Pete Carroll.
• 25:13
Speaker 4: Was our DB coach, and like you said, as soon
• 25:18
Speaker 4: as he started talking, I was like, oh, okay, this
• 25:21
Speaker 4: guy is going to really help me out.
• 25:23
Speaker 1: You know, I'm going to learn this and this and that.
• 25:27
Speaker 4: And once you learn it and once you're doing it,
• 25:31
Speaker 4: and let's say it's not working, it ain't Pete Carroll's fault.
• 25:36
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? I can go over and say, well, Coach,
• 25:39
Speaker 4: what am I doing wrong? Well, you basically are getting beat.
• 25:43
Speaker 4: You know the steps. You know the punch. You should
• 25:45
Speaker 4: be running with them. You should be against them. All
• 25:48
Speaker 4: the other things that the end result of it, if
• 25:51
Speaker 4: you do everything right, you should be good. If you don't,
• 25:56
Speaker 4: then Sterling's going to catch it.
• 25:58
Speaker 1: You know, he's going to be in the end zone.
• 26:00
Speaker 2: Yes, yes. I want to circle back to the conversation
• 26:04
Speaker 2: about uh, Matt Lafleur, the head coach should be, I've
• 26:12
Speaker 2: always felt this way as a fan, you know, cause I'm, I'm,
• 26:16
Speaker 2: I'm hearing the rumblings here at the university of South
• 26:19
Speaker 2: Carolina with my head coach, Shane Beamer. Now that all
• 26:22
Speaker 2: being was got to go, I'm going to say this.
• 26:25
Speaker 2: And I say this all the time. If you fire
• 26:29
Speaker 2: Matt Lafleur, are you dying to hire? You know, because
• 26:35
Speaker 2: as a fan, it's easy for us to make that change.
• 26:40
Speaker 2: And look at the system that Matt LaFleur runs on
• 26:44
Speaker 2: offense is a version of the West Coast that I
• 26:47
Speaker 2: was in my last few years in the league. So
• 26:50
Speaker 2: I know the system is good. What they may have
• 26:53
Speaker 2: to do is, like I said, they may have to
• 26:56
Speaker 2: shorten the game plan, not in the number of plays.
• 27:01
Speaker 2: but shorten the game plan in. We got to get
• 27:04
Speaker 2: in a rhythm. We want to play fast. We want
• 27:07
Speaker 2: to play quick, you know, as opposed to here is
• 27:10
Speaker 2: a play action pass and a five-step drop and a hitch.
• 27:15
Speaker 2: I don't know if we got that kind of offensive
• 27:17
Speaker 2: line to do that right now. So I don't want
• 27:21
Speaker 2: Matt LaFleur fired only because Based on what I know
• 27:25
Speaker 2: now about the NFL, I don't know who I'm dying
• 27:28
Speaker 2: to hire to come in and be like, yeah, we
• 27:31
Speaker 2: feel like we got a really good team and a
• 27:33
Speaker 2: really good roster. And now we want them to learn
• 27:36
Speaker 2: a totally new offense, a totally new defense and totally
• 27:40
Speaker 2: new special teams lingo and system. Because now let's reverse
• 27:47
Speaker 2: that back to three years before this person gets his
• 27:51
Speaker 2: personnel or gets his system to where everybody is seen
• 27:55
Speaker 2: to be on the same page. I think Matt LaFleur
• 27:58
Speaker 2: is a very sharp guy. I think Matt and his
• 28:01
Speaker 2: staff are working overtime to try and come up with
• 28:05
Speaker 2: a game plan that is going to help the talent
• 28:09
Speaker 2: that they have be successful. Now, as a player, I
• 28:13
Speaker 2: do not want you to do more. don't do more
• 28:19
Speaker 2: just just do your job yeah don't do more because
• 28:23
Speaker 2: when you do more what you forget is you forget
• 28:27
Speaker 2: to do your job that's because i'm looking at carl
• 28:30
Speaker 2: and i'm like i can help i need to help
• 28:32
Speaker 2: carl out and while i'm helping him out my production
• 28:36
Speaker 2: flat so i just think that the players and you
• 28:39
Speaker 2: know it's week four you know it's long season We
• 28:45
Speaker 2: just need to figure out a way as a team,
• 28:48
Speaker 2: and I'm leaving that to the coaching staff to come
• 28:51
Speaker 2: up with. We just need to figure out a way
• 28:53
Speaker 2: to change the speed in which we play.
• 28:56
Speaker 1: And to that term, do your job.
• 29:01
Speaker 4: The crazy thing to me is I think that there
• 29:05
Speaker 4: is a host of players who just don't understand exactly
• 29:09
Speaker 4: what that means. Because I know when we started playing
• 29:14
Speaker 4: bump and run, you took everything, not you personally, but
• 29:19
Speaker 4: you took everything else in the game away from me.
• 29:23
  Speaker 4: I don't have time to worry about whether it's a
• 29:26
Speaker 4: play fake or whatever. I'm standing in front of you,
• 29:29
Speaker 4: and my job is to cover you wherever you go.
• 29:33
Speaker 1: And so to me, like do your job.
• 29:36
  Speaker 4: I think that's the, I still think that's a very
• 29:40
Speaker 4: difficult thing for players to understand because I think they
• 29:44
Speaker 4: think if they do more, maybe I'm going to get some,
• 29:48
Speaker 4: some more notoriety and, and be more popular, maybe get
• 29:52
Speaker 4: some NIL money or whatever the case may be. But,
• 29:58
Speaker 4: I can't play safety and corner.
• 30:04
  Speaker 2: That's right.
• 30:06
Speaker 1: And I can't cover you and whoever's on the other side.
• 30:10
Speaker 4: My job is you and to do this with you
• 30:14
Speaker 4: and try to keep you in this place.
• 30:16
Speaker 5: You think players overextend themselves at times.
• 30:18
Speaker 1: I think that they think to get great, they need
• 30:21
  Speaker 1: to do more.
• 30:22
Speaker 2: Okay. You know, and I'm going to say from an
• 30:26
Speaker 2: offensive standpoint, You know, cliche as it is, when you
• 30:33
Speaker 2: go back to the basics, it's a five-step, you know,
• 30:38
Speaker 2: it's a five-step whatever the case may be, in route
• 30:44
Speaker 2: or out route, or it's a seven-step comeback. You know,
• 30:49
Speaker 2: you've got to get back basically to dumb it down
• 30:54
Speaker 2: for myself. Like I said, I think, you know, for me,
• 30:58
Speaker 2: he tried to suck the energy out of me before
• 31:02
Speaker 2: the game. I don't want to have any emotion. I
• 31:05
Speaker 2: don't need to be jacked up to play a game
• 31:08
Speaker 2: and do a job that I have wanted to do
• 31:12
Speaker 2: my entire life. So what I need to do is
• 31:14
Speaker 2: make sure that I'm not helter-skelter out there. But what
• 31:19
Speaker 2: I'm doing is I have– let me go back, okay? Hitch,
• 31:23
Speaker 2: I'm taking a big– That explosion step and then too
• 31:26
Speaker 2: quick so I can present myself for my quarterback as
• 31:30
Speaker 2: quickly as possible so he can give me the best
• 31:34
Speaker 2: throw he can give me. And so I don't need
• 31:37
Speaker 2: to do more. You know, if I'm going to do more,
• 31:40
Speaker 2: it's after I got the ball in my hands. But
• 31:43
  Speaker 2: I can't do more if I haven't studied. what Carl's
• 31:46
Speaker 2: approach is on coming up in zone coverage to make
• 31:49
Speaker 2: the tackle. Now, I know he's going to be a
• 31:51
Speaker 2: little bit outside because he knows he's got to turn
• 31:55
Speaker 2: me back inside because when I catch it on Carl,
• 31:59
Speaker 2: it's already going to be a 30-yard completion. But if
• 32:01
Speaker 2: he lets me get outside, I'm going to make it
• 32:04
  Speaker 2: six yards.
• 32:04
Speaker 1: Feel the burn, Carl. Feel the burn.
• 32:07
Speaker 2: So when I say don't do more, sometimes as skilled players,
• 32:13
Speaker 2: we have to just go back to three-step drop, big
• 32:19
Speaker 2: explosion step, get in my stance, no wasted motion. I
• 32:23
Speaker 2: just want to be where I'm supposed to be as
• 32:26
Speaker 2: quickly as I can to present myself for the best
• 32:31
Speaker 2: possible throw that my quarterback can give me. I mean,
• 32:34
Speaker 2: because Jordan's making some throws that he and his receivers
• 32:38
Speaker 2: are fingertips away. And me personally, I'm like, that's on
• 32:43
Speaker 2: the receiver. You know, that's not an overthrow. That's on
• 32:47
Speaker 2: the receiver because if you get in a little better stance,
• 32:50
Speaker 2: get a little better explosion off the line, you're probably
• 32:54
Speaker 2: going to be that half a step quicker so you
• 32:56
Speaker 2: can make that play.
• 32:57
Speaker 5: Well, let me ask you this, Starling, since we're talking
• 33:00
Speaker 5: about the Packers who are at the bottom of of
• 33:03
Speaker 5: the NFC North at 1-2. We need to talk a
• 33:05
Speaker 5: little bit about Carl's Vikings, who sit at the top
• 33:09
Speaker 5: of NFC North undefeated.
• 33:11
Speaker 1: This is unusual. Well, I thought we.
• 33:13
Speaker 5: Would switch gears for a minute, give Carl his limelight,
• 33:15
Speaker 5: because I know he enjoys torturing me about this, Sterling.
• 33:18
Speaker 5: But what do you see the difference? I don't know
• 33:21
Speaker 5: if you follow the Vikings games much. I do when
• 33:24
Speaker 5: they play the Packers. But what do you see happening
• 33:26
Speaker 5: with the Vikings this year to have such a strong
• 33:29
Speaker 5: start compared to last season?
• 33:31
Speaker 2: They got great balance between offense and defense. That's one.
• 33:36
Speaker 2: So if they get close on the fourth down, they
• 33:41
Speaker 2: are cautiously aggressive. Hey, coach. Hey, we're on our 50.
• 33:46
Speaker 2: If I go for it and don't get it, defensive coaches,
• 33:49
Speaker 2: can you hold them to a field goal?
• 33:52
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 33:53
Speaker 2: I like the way that they use their weapons. I
• 33:57
Speaker 2: like the fact that they got a big gun, and
• 34:00
Speaker 2: Justin Jefferson is a big gun, but they fit the
• 34:06
Speaker 2: background singers in beautifully. And that was kind of the
• 34:11
Speaker 2: comparison I was making with Green Bay. I mean, a
• 34:15
Speaker 2: tight end was a monster last year. Where's he? You know,
• 34:19
Speaker 2: are we not putting him... And I don't want to
• 34:23
Speaker 2: say it, but I'm going to say it. I know
• 34:24
Speaker 2: he's got new money, but We ain't getting the same
• 34:28
Speaker 2: production that we got when you were poor. I need
• 34:30
Speaker 2: you to go back to being that poor guy.
• 34:34
Speaker 1: And let me just say this. Is that the coach?
• 34:39
Speaker 4: Do you think that's the coach's situation or the player's situation?
• 34:42
Speaker 4: Because if you pay me more money, man, I'm still
• 34:45
Speaker 4: trying to get out there and be– I want to
• 34:48
  Speaker 4: be great still.
• 34:49
  Speaker 2: I don't think.
• 34:51
Speaker 4: Anybody who's playing, and let's just say a true starter
• 34:54
Speaker 4: and a legitimate player– The money's great, but you want
• 34:59
  Speaker 4: to be name-worthy while you're.
• 35:02
Speaker 2: In the league. It needs my peers. Yes. It needs
• 35:04
Speaker 2: my peers to say, bro, you ain't in the Hall
• 35:07
Speaker 2: of Fame, but we know. We already know you should
• 35:09
Speaker 2: be there. Yeah. You ain't in. And I used to
• 35:15
Speaker 2: say this all the time. I don't care what anybody
• 35:19
Speaker 2: else thinks except the guys I play against. The guys
• 35:24
Speaker 2: I play against, guess what? They're studying me. So for
• 35:28
Speaker 2: them to say, oh, bro, you the truth, or you
• 35:30
Speaker 2: for real, or bro, you headed in the right direction. Now,
• 35:35
Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying? Now I'm doing some things.
• 35:41
Speaker 2: I just feel like in comparison with what Minnesota is doing,
• 35:45
Speaker 2: we came in, this was our quarterback, he got hurt.
• 35:49
Speaker 2: So now we've got to go to another quarterback, and
• 35:51
Speaker 2: guess what? It seems like they haven't missed a beat,
• 35:55
Speaker 2: and I think it's because they have great balance between
• 35:58
Speaker 2: offense and defense, but I think their offensive play calling
• 36:03
Speaker 2: is tremendous based on Justin Jefferson being Michael and the
• 36:08
Speaker 2: other guys being the Jackson 5. They're doing a great
• 36:10
Speaker 2: job of balancing those guys with what they do in
• 36:14
  Speaker 2: their running game.
• 36:18
Speaker 1: Well, I'll say this, too.
• 36:22
Speaker 4: In the game of football today, running the football is
• 36:27
Speaker 4: actually an amazing feat, I think, now. Where back in
• 36:32
Speaker 4: the day, you were running it, and if you could
• 36:35
Speaker 4: throw the deep balls, if you threw two or three
• 36:37
Speaker 4: deep balls in the game for a touchdown, that was major.
• 36:42
Speaker 4: How does that make the quarterback? What does that put
• 36:45
  Speaker 4: the quarterback today?
• 36:46
  Speaker 1: Do you.
• 36:47
Speaker 4: Do you have to be able to throw those touchdowns,
• 36:50
Speaker 4: or can you turn and hand the ball off and
• 36:52
Speaker 4: still be recognized as a solid quarterback?
• 36:56
Speaker 2: You know, the NFL does a great job of fooling
• 36:59
Speaker 2: people year in and year out because who is the
• 37:03
Speaker 2: highest paid guy on the field? Usually it's a quarterback.
• 37:06
Speaker 2: But we want to do everything we can for him
• 37:09
Speaker 2: not to show you he's the highest paid guy on
• 37:11
Speaker 2: the field. We're going to run it 700 times. We're
• 37:14
Speaker 2: going to dink it and dunk it and do all this. And, hey, look, man,
• 37:20
Speaker 2: I'm not in the room anymore. You know, I'm not
• 37:22
Speaker 2: on the phone talking to people the way I was
• 37:25
Speaker 2: when I was doing TV, so I have to be prepared.
• 37:29
Speaker 2: But as a fan, I always was like, when I
• 37:34
Speaker 2: watch your first two or three series, I should know
• 37:38
Speaker 2: what your game plan is. I should know that you
• 37:41
Speaker 2: came in, hey, they got a really good defense, but
• 37:45
Speaker 2: number 39, their left corner, we get him. So we
• 37:49
Speaker 2: got everything that we're doing at number 39. So Sterling,
• 37:53
Speaker 2: we're going to start with you on him. And then
• 37:56
Speaker 2: we're going to send Robert Brooks. And then we're going
• 38:00
Speaker 2: to send Mark Clayton. Because that's what we see on film.
• 38:06
Speaker 2: When I watch my Green Bay.
• 38:08
Speaker 4: Am I the only name that you know that played corner?
• 38:12
Speaker 1: I know you know the other corner's name. I'm just trying.
• 38:14
Speaker 2: To get our fans to be on the same page, bro.
• 38:17
Speaker 2: It ain't personal. Just so you know, I am taking
• 38:19
  Speaker 2: it personal.
• 38:20
  Speaker 7: Okay.
• 38:28
Speaker 2: I'm just trying to get our fans to understand, you know,
• 38:31
Speaker 2: because we're using, you know, we're using our voices and
• 38:34
Speaker 2: we're not using pictures. I look at teams. I look
• 38:40
Speaker 2: at my South Carolina game cops. I I'm looking at
• 38:43
Speaker 2: my green Bay Packers and I'm saying to myself, who
• 38:47
Speaker 2: did you want to attack? Based on what your protection
• 38:52
Speaker 2: capabilities are, based on what your lack of a running
• 38:57
Speaker 2: or true running back is, what was your game plan?
• 39:02
Speaker 2: I know what happens when the score is 21-3. I
• 39:07
Speaker 2: know now you're trying to... But if I know you're throwing,
• 39:11
Speaker 2: don't they know you're throwing? Yeah, good point.
• 39:13
  Speaker 1: I don't see.
• 39:18
Speaker 2: From my Green Bay Packers in this system, I don't
• 39:21
Speaker 2: see a lot of short passes and long run. I
• 39:25
Speaker 2: would like to see more of that because if you
• 39:30
Speaker 2: catch it at nine and fall down, I'm in second
• 39:32
Speaker 2: and one. And I can do a whole lot from
• 39:35
Speaker 2: second and one. I got three downs to get one yard.
• 39:38
Speaker 2: And so, but I think that is the pacing that
• 39:43
Speaker 2: is missing because they run it for no gain. They
• 39:48
Speaker 2: come back. They they try and throw a screen or,
• 39:51
Speaker 2: you know, it's a game of three. And now we're
• 39:54
Speaker 2: in third and seven. And, you know, there's no more.
• 39:57
Speaker 2: I'm going to throw you a hitch and you get
• 39:59
Speaker 2: me to eight yards that I need.
• 40:01
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 40:01
Speaker 2: Everybody now is running past the sticks. And then what
• 40:04
Speaker 2: happens is, is now I'm sitting here going, wait a minute, wait,
• 40:09
Speaker 2: wait a minute. Let's throw it forward down so here
• 40:13
Speaker 2: comes the, you know, and then I would like to,
• 40:16
Speaker 2: and that's part of my pacing. That's part of my
• 40:20
Speaker 2: speed of the game. That's part of, I think my
• 40:23
Speaker 2: Green Bay Packers need to play faster. And in playing faster,
• 40:28
Speaker 2: it could be throw a hitch. Could be throw a slam,
• 40:32
Speaker 2: you know. Small steps. Your quarterback is your big gun.
• 40:37
Speaker 2: Your quarterback is your main guy. Your quarterback is your
• 40:40
Speaker 2: big dog. Well, now it's time for him to prove it.
• 40:44
Speaker 2: And it's time for you to help him prove it. Because,
• 40:48
Speaker 2: you know, I played in Lambeau Field. There wasn't a
• 40:52
Speaker 2: whole lot of people coming there to see me. They
• 40:54
Speaker 2: came to see Don McCaskill. They came to see Brett Favre.
• 40:58
Speaker 2: You know, they want to see the throws and, you know, oh,
• 41:01
Speaker 2: my God, Brett threw it through a brick wall. They
• 41:03
Speaker 2: want to see that. Well, I believe in Jordan Love.
• 41:07
Speaker 2: He's a really good guy. I've enjoyed getting to know
• 41:10
Speaker 2: him over the years. And I would personally, as a fan,
• 41:16
Speaker 2: put the onus on him in helping us get out
• 41:20
Speaker 2: of this funk offensively.
• 41:21
Speaker 5: So so there has been a lot of talk on
• 41:23
Speaker 5: on sports, you know, different outlets, Sterling, about the booze
• 41:27
Speaker 5: raining down at Lambeau Field. You know, a lot of people,
• 41:32
Speaker 5: a lot of comments that I've read, they're saying that
• 41:34
Speaker 5: it's not personally toward the team, but it's more toward
• 41:37
Speaker 5: the fact that there's no direction with this team, that
• 41:40
Speaker 5: they're losing hope with, you know, the way that they're playing.
• 41:44
Speaker 5: Were you ever booed at– I hope that that's not
• 41:47
Speaker 5: a thing that you had to endure.
• 41:48
Speaker 2: What? Wait, what? Wait, what? Yeah.
• 41:53
Speaker 5: Did you ever have a bad year and the team
• 41:54
Speaker 5: was booed is what I'm asking.
• 41:56
Speaker 1: Not you in particular.
• 41:57
Speaker 2: Oh, you're talking about the team? Because I'm sure we
• 42:00
Speaker 2: were booed. We were booed when I got there. And
• 42:04
Speaker 2: I definitely was booed. But here's the thing about boos.
• 42:10
Speaker 2: And this is my own personal take. if you pay
• 42:15
Speaker 2: your hard earned money, your only participation in this game
• 42:20
Speaker 2: is your voice. You can cheer extremely loudly when they
• 42:23
Speaker 2: have the ball and you can, you know, be quiet
• 42:28
Speaker 2: when we have the ball. But if you don't like
• 42:31
Speaker 2: what you're seeing, let them have it because, and I
• 42:37
Speaker 2: don't believe in deserve that. I've always had what I needed.
• 42:42
  Speaker 2: I didn't always get what I want, but I never
• 42:45
Speaker 2: got what I deserve. So I don't say deserve. But
• 42:48
Speaker 2: if you pay your hard-earned money, the only participation you
• 42:52
Speaker 2: have is your voice. And I've always felt like booze,
• 42:58
Speaker 2: are just letting you know what you're not doing. Okay?
• 43:02
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 43:03
Speaker 2: Nobody booed the championship performance.
• 43:05
  Speaker 1: There you go.
• 43:06
Speaker 2: You know, Whitney Houston singing the national anthem at the
• 43:09
Speaker 2: Super Bowl back in Tampa. Nobody booed that performance.
• 43:12
  Speaker 1: I know.
• 43:13
Speaker 2: That was pretty good.
• 43:15
Speaker 1: And to that, go ahead, go ahead, finish.
• 43:18
Speaker 2: I think the fans, I think the fans should voice
• 43:21
Speaker 2: their displeasure. You said something else, Lisa, that when you
• 43:26
Speaker 2: say no hope, now, That is coaching. Okay, so when
• 43:35
Speaker 2: the fans, enough of them, feel that this team has
• 43:41
Speaker 2: no hope, now I think you have to make a
• 43:45
Speaker 2: coaching change. I think now, and I'm not saying Matt
• 43:50
Speaker 2: LaFleur should or needs to be replaced. I don't. But
• 43:55
Speaker 2: if we feel there is no hope, And I played
• 44:00
Speaker 2: in Lambeau field when there was no hope. I was
• 44:04
Speaker 2: on some teams in green Bay that had no hope.
• 44:09
Speaker 2: And let me tell you, it is really, you have
• 44:15
Speaker 2: to just, I was playing in the NFL, so I
• 44:17
Speaker 2: was extremely happy and I had to curtail my happiness
• 44:22
Speaker 2: of playing in the NFL because we as a team
• 44:25
Speaker 2: were so bad. Um, When Mike Holmgren came, Mike changed
• 44:34
Speaker 2: the player's hope because he brought a system that each
• 44:38
Speaker 2: and every player could see someone in San Francisco, the
• 44:43
Speaker 2: success that that player had, whether it was a tackle
• 44:46
Speaker 2: or guard, a center, the third down receiver, the third
• 44:51
Speaker 2: down back, there was success that you could see. So
• 44:56
Speaker 2: the players, hope change when you change that now you
• 45:04
Speaker 2: changed a tremendous amount about going out and performing at
• 45:10
Speaker 2: a level that we're going in the right direction we're
• 45:14
Speaker 2: nine and seven nine and seven nine and seven eleven
• 45:18
Speaker 2: and five uh whatever it was we're in the super
• 45:21
Speaker 2: bowl yeah so I don't mind fans showing their interest
• 45:27
Speaker 2: in booing. They're just pleasure in booing. But when you
• 45:31
Speaker 2: start talking about no hope, that's front office and coaching,
• 45:38
Speaker 2: and there has to be a change when there's no hope.
• 45:42
Speaker 1: And I'll say this to that conversation.
• 45:47
Speaker 4: I don't think, and again, anytime I'm giving anything positive,
• 45:53
Speaker 4: to this dude that I'm talking to now.
• 45:56
Speaker 1: I got to be careful. Take that personally. I got
• 45:58
Speaker 1: to be careful. Sterling, take it personal.
• 45:59
Speaker 4: There could have never been a legitimate game play that Sterl,
• 46:13
Speaker 4: to me, could have ever been booed. Let's just assume
• 46:17
Speaker 4: we had him shut out in a game. And He
• 46:21
Speaker 4: was the man for their team. And we're in Green Bay.
• 46:28
Speaker 4: They're not going to boo him because they already know,
• 46:33
Speaker 4: seen his efforts to play the game. And they know
• 46:38
  Speaker 4: that if there's a problem, it's somewhere else, whether it's
• 46:42
Speaker 4: the line, whether it's the quarterback.
• 46:44
Speaker 1: And again, for people who do boo players....
• 46:50
Speaker 4: Especially at the professional level, what you have to understand
• 46:54
Speaker 4: is that particular guy.
• 46:57
Speaker 1: You're booing him because he's playing.
• 46:59
Speaker 4: And you're booing him because he's made the team, made plays,
• 47:02
Speaker 4: has become a starter. You are booing one of the
• 47:05
Speaker 4: best athletes at that position to have played the game
• 47:10
Speaker 4: or had played in that modern era.
• 47:14
Speaker 1: How is that possible? You know what I'm saying? But
• 47:16
Speaker 1: I don't think that they think that.
• 47:20
Speaker 2: In 1994, I held out in a contract dispute. So
• 47:27
Speaker 2: I didn't hold out like the fools do now. I'm
• 47:29
Speaker 2: going to hold out a training camp. It was like
• 47:32
Speaker 2: I had two things in my favor. One, Mike Holmgren
• 47:37
Speaker 2: had never beat Denny Green. And the game plan week one,
• 47:44
Speaker 2: Minnesota came to Green Bay. The game plan week one
• 47:47
Speaker 2: was me. And so I knew didn't make any sense
• 47:56
Speaker 2: for me to hold out in training camp because I'd
• 47:58
Speaker 2: had surgery the year before. And I was on the
• 48:01
Speaker 2: PUP list until like a week and a half before
• 48:03
Speaker 2: the season started. Waited until the Friday before the Sunday
• 48:09
Speaker 2: game against Minnesota. So when that hit, it was like
• 48:15
Speaker 2: a sledgehammer crushing an egg. So the Green Bay fans
• 48:22
Speaker 2: were upset at me because no one knew if I
• 48:26
Speaker 2: was going to play or not. And so we got
• 48:33
Speaker 2: it worked out the night before, the Saturday night before
• 48:37
Speaker 2: the game. So I got to the stadium. No one
• 48:40
Speaker 2: knew if I was going to play. So when I
• 48:44
Speaker 2: came out for warm-up, they let me have it. And yes,
• 48:48
Speaker 2: I heard it. But I'm a professional athlete. And if
• 48:52
Speaker 2: you can get in my mind that easy, I should
• 48:54
Speaker 2: not be at the level that I'm at. They scored
• 48:58
Speaker 2: the first touchdown of the game. And they booed me.
• 49:02
Speaker 2: Because they were angry at what I did Friday and Saturday.
• 49:06
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 49:07
Speaker 2: Understood that. And they were letting me know their displeasure
• 49:13
Speaker 2: in what I did. Now, the fact that we're up seven,
• 49:15
Speaker 2: nothing at that moment didn't matter. We are angry. angry
• 49:20
Speaker 2: at you for having us on pins and needles thinking
• 49:25
Speaker 2: you weren't on play.
• 49:26
  Speaker 1: Oh my goodness.
• 49:28
Speaker 2: So I did it. I'm a player like this. You
• 49:34
Speaker 2: want to talk about my mom, go right ahead. God
• 49:36
Speaker 2: knows I've done it. Okay, you want to talk about
• 49:39
Speaker 2: my family, go right ahead. God knows I've said some
• 49:43
Speaker 2: things about my family that, yes, I will not repeat
• 49:46
Speaker 2: down at parties. Because that is your own connection, and
• 49:51
Speaker 2: you're paying your hard-earned money. That's your only connection to
• 49:56
Speaker 2: the game. So if you need to boo, let it out.
• 50:01
Speaker 2: I'd say you'll feel a lot better if you let
• 50:04
Speaker 2: it out than you do if you keep it in you.
• 50:06
Speaker 1: This is so true. And what's interesting to that is
• 50:10
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 50:12
Speaker 4: I don't think I've ever really gotten booed, at least
• 50:16
  Speaker 4: in the pros.
• 50:16
Speaker 1: I was just trying to ask if you've ever been booed.
• 50:18
  Speaker 1: I don't think I've been booed.
• 50:20
Speaker 2: I booed you several times. When they introduced you, bro,
• 50:25
Speaker 2: I booed you several times.
• 50:27
  Speaker 1: I knew it.
• 50:28
Speaker 2: I knew it. I wasn't going to say anything, but
• 50:29
Speaker 2: I'm going to let you. Friendship is so strong right now,
• 50:33
Speaker 2: I'm going to let you in on that. I've moved
• 50:35
Speaker 2: you several times, okay?
• 50:38
Speaker 4: What I wasn't expecting was that, okay? But anyway, you know,
• 50:45
Speaker 4: and I don't really understand, like, what could, what, you know.
• 50:51
Speaker 4: So if Sterling beat me, if Jerry Rice beat me,
• 50:53
Speaker 4: if Andre Rison beat me, if Andre Reid.
• 50:56
Speaker 1: Beat me, like, Really? Can you come out here and
• 50:59
Speaker 1: show me how to do it? Like, I don't really even.
• 51:02
Speaker 4: Understand, like, how you boo a professional or college athlete.
• 51:09
  Speaker 1: Because you.
• 51:10
Speaker 2: But that's part of it.
• 51:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's part of your pay. That's part of you
• 51:14
Speaker 4: buying your ticket or season ticket.
• 51:18
Speaker 2: I don't know how to cover Jerry Rice. Right. I
• 51:21
Speaker 2: don't know how to cover, but... I'm paying my money
• 51:24
Speaker 2: so you can do it. And you ain't doing your job. So, yeah.
• 51:30
Speaker 2: So that's justification to boot.
• 51:33
Speaker 5: In reality, you think about how much money these people
• 51:36
Speaker 5: spend to go to a game if they take family members.
• 51:39
Speaker 1: I'm not charging them.
• 51:41
Speaker 5: The reality of to walk through the gate and concessions.
• 51:45
  Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's right.
• 51:47
  Speaker 5: Go ahead.
• 51:47
Speaker 2: You're going to pay that $ 249 for that 39 jersey, Brian?
• 51:49
Speaker 2: You're going to let Sterling run up and down the field?
• 51:52
  Speaker 2: That's what we're doing? I got this. I got this.
• 51:57
Speaker 2: I need some relief. I need some relief on this, though.
• 52:02
Speaker 1: That jersey need to be a little cheaper, huh?
• 52:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, hey. And you know what? If I
• 52:08
Speaker 2: had one or two drinks in me, I'll say it.
• 52:12
Speaker 2: I can do better than that. I'm sitting up here
• 52:16
Speaker 2: in these stands going, you know what? After these two
• 52:20
Speaker 2: mil of life, I feel like I can do a
• 52:22
Speaker 2: better job than Carl, dude.
• 52:23
Speaker 1: Put me in, coach. Put me in. Yeah, I mean,
• 52:25
Speaker 1: how much we paying him?
• 52:26
  Speaker 7: $ 3.
• 52:34
Speaker 2: Million? Oh, they can.
• 52:36
  Speaker 1: Pay me $ 500, 000.
• 52:36
Speaker 2: I thought I'd do better than that. But that's what
• 52:43
Speaker 2: I love about fans is I'm like, no, you don't
• 52:49
Speaker 2: understand that that guy on the other side, he didn't pay, too. Yeah, exactly.
• 52:55
Speaker 2: You know, that guy... And I say to guys, you know,
• 52:58
Speaker 2: because they go, oh, man, such and such. Man, he sucks.
• 53:02
  Speaker 2: I go... He's sucking in the NFL. I don't know
• 53:07
Speaker 2: what that means, but that guy, you saying he sucks,
• 53:10
Speaker 2: he's in the NFL.
• 53:14
  Speaker 1: And playing.
• 53:14
Speaker 2: You know how many people he beat out for that job?
• 53:17
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 53:19
Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, his resume is pretty good if he's
• 53:23
Speaker 2: in the NFL. Because this is the best football league
• 53:26
Speaker 2: in the world. Okay? In the world. And so for
• 53:29
Speaker 2: you to say... He's not very good. Why you think
• 53:34
Speaker 2: you're talking about him, you're showing your own stupidity because
• 53:39
Speaker 2: the guy you're talking about, you're sitting here watching him,
• 53:42
Speaker 2: and that guy's in the NFL.
• 53:45
Speaker 4: And when you think about the quarterbacks who get a
• 53:48
Speaker 4: lot of that, they're probably making more money than anybody
• 53:55
Speaker 4: in the league, anybody else in the league, more than
• 53:58
Speaker 4: probably you watching the game. And how do you even
• 54:04
Speaker 4: think that they're not any good?
• 54:06
  Speaker 1: Like, how are.
• 54:08
Speaker 4: They not supposed to throw an interception? How are they
• 54:10
Speaker 4: not supposed to fumble the ball? Like, that's part of
• 54:14
  Speaker 4: the game.
• 54:15
Speaker 2: Receiver drops a– so you go, you got to catch that. Yeah.
• 54:19
Speaker 2: I'm like, so you thought he was– he heard the
• 54:21
Speaker 2: play and he was like, oh– This is probably going
• 54:24
Speaker 2: to come to me, but I ain't catching that. I
• 54:27
Speaker 2: want us to be in third and fourth.
• 54:30
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 54:30
Speaker 5: I'm going to ask both of you a question before
• 54:32
Speaker 5: we have to. I know we're getting close to time
• 54:34
Speaker 5: being over. We're watching ESPN here, Sterling. And, you know,
• 54:37
Speaker 5: the Bears are facing the Eagles, and the Eagles are
• 54:41
Speaker 5: at Bears Stadium. Who do you feel like is going
• 54:43
Speaker 5: to win that game tonight? It's a division game for Vikings.
• 54:48
Speaker 2: Philly. Philly plays a brand of football. That is boring
• 54:52
  Speaker 2: but effective.
• 54:53
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 54:55
Speaker 2: They do enough. They don't wow you with anything that
• 54:59
Speaker 2: they do. You know, Saquon Barkley is not jumping over
• 55:03
Speaker 2: people every play, but they are extremely effective in what
• 55:06
Speaker 2: they do. And their confidence is going to be higher
• 55:11
Speaker 2: because they're not facing Chicago's quarterback. So on paper, which
• 55:17
Speaker 2: is why we're playing the game tonight, I would say
• 55:20
Speaker 2: the Eagles win that one only because of, I like
• 55:24
Speaker 2: how they play offensively and defensively and defensively. Caleb Williams
• 55:30
Speaker 2: made a lot– he covered up a lot of eels
• 55:32
Speaker 2: for the Bears with his movement and his mobility. And
• 55:36
Speaker 2: I just don't know if their backup is– or they
• 55:38
Speaker 2: have a game plan that's going to be able to
• 55:40
  Speaker 2: circumvent his absence.
• 55:43
Speaker 1: So your choice is– He's going with the Eagles.
• 55:46
Speaker 2: You're going with the Eagles. I'm going with the Phillies.
• 55:48
Speaker 1: Because he is. I'm going the other direction.
• 55:53
Speaker 5: This is a division opponent. We should both, both of us,
• 55:59
Speaker 5: both fan bases, the Packers and the Vikings should be
• 56:03
Speaker 5: wanting the Bears to lose. Am I not right, Sterling?
• 56:07
Speaker 2: No, they're going to lose.
• 56:12
Speaker 1: Get us out of the cellar.
• 56:13
Speaker 2: And I said this today on the golf course, I
• 56:17
Speaker 2: usually don't bet on games that I don't play, but
• 56:20
Speaker 2: I would bet on this. You know, I usually don't
• 56:26
Speaker 2: play on games that I'm not playing in, but I
• 56:30
Speaker 2: would bet on that, though.
• 56:31
  Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
• 56:32
Speaker 4: Well, bro, I appreciate you taking the call and being
• 56:35
Speaker 4: on with us today, and we will for sure be
• 56:38
Speaker 4: back with you again.
• 56:40
Speaker 1: We love you, Sterling.
• 56:41
Speaker 2: I appreciate you guys having me.
• 56:43
  Speaker 1: Love you.
• 56:43
Speaker 2: All right, I'll talk to you. All right.
• 56:45
Speaker 4: All right, well, ladies and gentlemen, just so you know.
• 56:52
Speaker 4: Anytime that we can get Sterling on, we have to
• 56:56
Speaker 4: get him on just because he's just like so open
• 56:59
  Speaker 4: and honest.
• 57:01
Speaker 5: I could listen to him for hours. Like literally this
• 57:04
Speaker 5: hour flew by. Just his take on, you know, offenses, defenses,
• 57:09
Speaker 5: the game in general. I mean, he's just awesome.
• 57:13
Speaker 1: He was really truly a super smart guy.
• 57:17
Speaker 4: Player who understood like defenses where you're going to be
• 57:21
Speaker 4: and all those kind of things and he just had
• 57:23
Speaker 4: fun with it you know because you know something like
• 57:26
Speaker 4: he knew everything that was happening he knew what he
• 57:28
Speaker 4: had to do he knew what the defense was doing
• 57:30
Speaker 4: yeah and he could just go out there and just
• 57:32
Speaker 4: have fun and you.
• 57:33
Speaker 5: Know what i really love about sterling he played for
• 57:35
Speaker 5: the green bay packers.
• 57:38
Speaker 1: That's enough to get her fired.
• 57:40
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 57:42
Speaker 7: The other thing, too, is he's got a lot of
• 57:44
Speaker 7: things that, I mean, yeah, it applies to the game
• 57:47
Speaker 7: of football, obviously. But, I mean, it really applies to
• 57:49
Speaker 7: a lot of things in life. The whole concept of
• 57:51
Speaker 7: know your role, know your place.
• 57:53
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 57:54
  Speaker 1: Life lessons.
• 57:54
Speaker 7: That's a big life lesson that a lot of people need.
• 57:57
Speaker 4: And I think he really truly lives by that. You know,
• 58:01
Speaker 4: I really do believe that's who he is.
• 58:04
Speaker 1: You can't fake that. No, you can't fake that.
• 58:06
Speaker 4: And like you said, just in the conversation, how he
• 58:10
Speaker 4: relates to it and speaks about it, it is who
• 58:14
  Speaker 4: he is.
• 58:15
Speaker 7: I think his next job could be motivational speaker.
• 58:17
Speaker 1: For sure. He already is. He's just not getting paid
• 58:20
Speaker 1: for it. That's right. All right.
• 58:22
Speaker 4: Well, ladies and gentlemen, we hope you enjoyed the show,
• 58:24
Speaker 4: and we'll get out of here, and we'll see you
• 58:26
  Speaker 4: again next week.
