- 2:28to tell them. Sunny mornings send you. In local
- 2:33news, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Feast
- 2:37in Springfield concluded with its iconic greased
- 2:40pole competition, drawing over 26 ,000 attendees
- 2:43this year. Nick Abbott, a Journeyman lineman,
- 2:47led his team from the Dana Club of West Springfield.
- 2:50attempting to conquer the 40 -foot Greased Pole.
- 2:54While no team reached the top, the event showcased
- 2:57the spirit of competition and nostalgia, as many
- 3:00participants shared personal stories tied to
- 3:03their Italian heritage and the festival's history.
- 3:07Notably, two women, Briscione Browning and Ashley
- 3:10Piccirilli, made history as the first female
- 3:13competitors, emphasizing their commitment to
- 3:16gender equality in this beloved tradition. Now
- 3:24onto sports. Robert Whittaker met the media Saturday
- 3:29after his win over Nikita Krylov at Ultimate
- 3:32Fighting Championship 329. Whittaker put away
- 3:37Krylov with a third -round technical knockout
- 3:39to close out the prelims at T -Mobile Arena in
- 3:43Las Vegas. Whittaker was making his Ultimate
- 3:46Fighting Championship debut at light heavyweight
- 3:49after spending his entire tenure with a promotion
- 3:52at middleweight. Everything that could go right
- 3:55did go right. I can't express to you how good
- 3:58I feel," Woodhicker said. Now he feels he is
- 4:02in title contention at 205 pounds after this
- 4:05victory. Whitting opens doors, and I have one,
- 4:09and the doors are open, he added. In local sports,
- 4:14the Red Sox are rolling. Boston swept the Mets
- 4:17yesterday at City Field, 3 -2. making it nine
- 4:21wins in their last ten games. Peyton Tall pitched
- 4:25three and two -thirds strong innings, and the
- 4:28bullpen locked it down with Garrett Whitlock
- 4:30closing it out and picking up the save. The Sox
- 4:34outscored New York 12 -2 across the series and
- 4:38improved to 46 -48 on the season. They're back
- 4:43in the division hunt, and now they head to the
- 4:45Bronx tomorrow night to face the Yankees at 7
- 4:49-35. These division rivals split earlier this
- 4:53year, so expect intensity when they square off.
- 4:57Meanwhile, the Red Sox front office is swinging
- 5:00for the fences in the draft. Boston grabbed high
- 5:04school outfielder Martin Scheller in the ninth
- 5:06round, a top 150 prospect who batted 500 with
- 5:1119 home runs as a senior. One analyst compared
- 5:15him to Jay Bunner based on his elite at speed.
- 5:19The risk is real. Scheller's committed to Mississippi
- 5:23State and could honor that commitment. But Boston's
- 5:27apparently willing to go over Slot to land him.
- 5:31If they can get his signature, it could be one
- 5:33of the dress' biggest wins. In top news, an outbreak
- 5:39of an intestinal illness causing extreme illness
- 5:42has been detected in 31 states, according to
- 5:46federal health authorities. but the source is
- 5:48still under investigation. As of Thursday, the
- 5:52Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported
- 5:55843 cases of cyclosporiasis, the gastrointestinal
- 6:00affliction caused by the parasite cyclospora.
- 6:03However, the actual number of infections is likely
- 6:06much higher, as many recover without medical
- 6:09treatment. Health officials from California to
- 6:12Texas to Florida have reported cases of cyclosporiasis
- 6:16since early May. Cooking produce effectively
- 6:19prevents infection as heating food to 158 degrees
- 6:24Fahrenheit kills cyclospora. In business news,
- 6:30Salesforce rarely draws a downgrade from two
- 6:33research firms at once, but this week it did.
- 6:36On Thursday, July 9th, Kaybank Capital Markets
- 6:39and Bernstein downgraded Salesforce to a hold,
- 6:43causing the stock to fall roughly 3 % to 4 %
- 6:46at its low before steadying the next day. Both
- 6:50firms expressed concern that the adoption of
- 6:52AgentForce, the company's flagship artificial
- 6:55intelligence agent platform, is progressing more
- 6:58slowly than expected. A recent survey revealed
- 7:02that more chief information officers plan to
- 7:05trim Salesforce spending over the next year than
- 7:07raise it. This trend raises caution across other
- 7:11software names as well. In crypto movement, Bitcoin
- 7:16is up 1 % over the weekend to about $64 ,000.
- 7:21Ethereum is up 3 % to just over $1 ,800. And
- 7:26XRP is down 1%. to $1 .09. Moving on to a more
- 7:33local vibe. In our community spotlight on health
- 7:37and wellness, we are working with a national

- 8:17back to the show. Let's talk tech. The Chinese
- 8:22space age is upon us. The People's Republic is
- 8:26pioneering various space initiatives, solidifying
- 8:29its role as a power player in Earth's orbit and
- 8:32beyond. A Chinese spacecraft is now within mere
- 8:36miles of one of the Earth's seven mysterious,
- 8:39quasi -moons, the asteroid known as Kamoalua.
- 8:44Launched in May of 2025, the Chinese spacecraft
- 8:47Tianwen -2 is now just 12 .5 miles from the asteroid's
- 8:51surface. After traveling around 620 million miles,
- 8:56the craft will spend nearly a year studying the
- 8:58asteroid before attempting to scoop up samples.
- 9:03Should it succeed, China could become the third
- 9:05country to pull a sample from an asteroid. And
- 9:11in entertainment news, Paramount is reportedly
- 9:14considering leaving California. As the Golden
- 9:17State and others prepare a lawsuit over its planned
- 9:20$111 billion takeover of Warner Brothers' discovery.
- 9:26On Sunday, Semaphore reported that friends and
- 9:29advisors to Paramount chief David Ellison are
- 9:32urging him to relocate his corporate headquarters
- 9:34out of the state. The news follows reports that
- 9:38California is preparing to file a lawsuit to
- 9:40block the merger, according to the New York Times.
- 9:44Ellison is being pushed to consider relocating,
- 9:47which would move $30 million in planned spending
- 9:51out of California if Attorney General Rob Bontas
- 9:54is. However, no decision has been made regarding
- 9:58a move. Paramount bought space in New Jersey
- 10:01last year, signing a 10 -year lease for over
- 10:05285 ,000 square feet of 1888 Studios Production
- 10:10Campus in Bayonne. This makes Paramount eligible
- 10:14for a tax credit of up to 40 % for movies and
- 10:17television shows filmed in the state. Meanwhile,
- 10:21California has reportedly taken the lead on a
- 10:24potential lawsuit to block the merger, with states
- 10:27including New York, Washington, and Connecticut
- 10:30planning to join in. A draft lawsuit claims the
- 10:34merger would hamper competition for major films,
- 10:37among other concerns. Paramount argues the deal
- 10:41will boost competition in Hollywood, saying it
- 10:44is necessary to compete against tech giants like
- 10:47Netflix, Amazon, and Apple. Waiters reported
- 10:51that a lawsuit could be filed as early as this
- 10:53week, while Paramount aims to close the deal
- 10:56in the third quarter of 2026. Paramount expressed
- 11:00confidence in the transaction, stating, We are
- 11:03confident the facts and the law support this
- 11:06transaction. and we will continue to defend it
- 11:09vigorously." The studio added, we continue to
- 11:13engage constructively with regulators around
- 11:15the world and are prepared to address any legitimate
- 11:18antitrust issues. Last month, news surfaced that
- 11:23the European Commission is expected to approve
- 11:25the merger ahead of an impending deadline, while
- 11:28competition authorities in China, South Africa,
- 11:32Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Serbia, and North Macedonia
- 11:36have already cleared it. A Paramount spokesperson
- 11:40emphasized their constructive engagement with
- 11:42all regulatory bodies. Well, all righty, folks.
- 11:47It's time for the quote of the day. And today,
- 11:52our quote comes from the American author and
- 11:54motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar. And he said,
- 11:59success is not a destination. It's a journey.
- 12:03And that's a wrap for this morning. You can check
- 12:07out our Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for some
