- 0:02Speaker 1: I did a gap.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I need a gap by side.
- 0:07Speaker 3: I need a gap by side.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Down.
- 0:19Speaker 4: So Another Ronning Corps released the debut album Staring Highest
- 0:22Speaker 4: Crushing Lows this Friday, October twenty fifth.
- 0:25Speaker 5: So how you feel about it?
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm excited. It's been a long time coming. Well, you
- 0:32Speaker 1: recorded in January? Was it?
- 0:34Speaker 5: Jab?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I was thinking about too, but yeah, no,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm I'm thrilled. I'm really excited. Yeah. I used to
- 0:49Speaker 2: play in the band almost twenty years ago and that
- 0:52Speaker 2: was the closest I ever got to release in an album.
- 0:54Speaker 6: And this one feels pretty. This feels really good.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Now I think off the bat too, we're probably better
- 1:02Speaker 4: off jumping. I gotta leave this till later. But if
- 1:05Speaker 4: anyone just said the band name another Rotting Corps, you
- 1:08Speaker 4: think you're a fucking death call grind metal, fucking full
- 1:11Speaker 4: on band because you're actually a punk band.
- 1:15Speaker 5: That's true.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That's my fault. I named the van. It's just meant
- 1:24Speaker 1: to be like like everybody, like all inclusive, because everyone's
- 1:30Speaker 1: just another rotting Corps.
- 1:31Speaker 5: You know, I love it.
- 1:33Speaker 4: But do you had people knock your back on gigs
- 1:36Speaker 4: or people?
- 1:37Speaker 1: We played so many metal gigs so many people.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We did. We did think about changing the name for
- 1:48Speaker 2: about five minutes and then there was the least punk
- 1:53Speaker 2: thing we could do is change our fucking name to
- 1:56Speaker 2: appease bookings and shows and stuff.
- 2:00Speaker 5: So it just.
- 2:03Speaker 6: Committed.
- 2:05Speaker 4: So back onto that album, I Sawringhies brushing loads guys.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Get a bit more about it from a musical point
- 2:11Speaker 4: of view and what you were going for with it.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Just sort of.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Two person essentially. I wrote a bunch of songs and
- 2:28Speaker 1: then I give him to Nathan. He puts his party
- 2:32Speaker 1: in and that's just how it came out. We didn't
- 2:34Speaker 1: want to like mess around with the sound too much,
- 2:37Speaker 1: just wanted it to be a two piece album. Essentially.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm embracing the number two right now, embracing the.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Number two and changing back and brown.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Next, I will say one thing writing when ant writes
- 2:56Speaker 2: a song for a two piece. We were a three piece,
- 3:00Speaker 2: but the bass player Louise moved to Gippsland with her partner,
- 3:03Speaker 2: so it was a bit tricky to do anything.
- 3:06Speaker 6: And writing songs for two pieces.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I've noticed that and does really well is that it
- 3:13Speaker 2: keeps us sound really full. There's so many opportunities where
- 3:17Speaker 2: you could do a solo or something else interesting. But
- 3:22Speaker 2: what was great about the album It gave us the
- 3:24Speaker 2: opportunity to fill that sound out even more than what
- 3:26Speaker 2: we already do, and playing live as well, you know,
- 3:34Speaker 2: without my horn too loud, but we have. I've heard
- 3:38Speaker 2: a few times it's like you don't sound like a
- 3:40Speaker 2: two pieces, you sound way more full. And that's one
- 3:42Speaker 2: thing that and I work really hard on doing to
- 3:46Speaker 2: fill that fill that sound.
- 3:51Speaker 4: You release the singles Icee Manipulator, you're searching, you have
- 3:54Speaker 4: no results and safe so are there? You're good sonic
- 3:57Speaker 4: representation of what do you expect from the whole album?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckon they are save. It's probably like the
- 4:05Speaker 1: slowest song on the album, but it also seems to
- 4:10Speaker 1: be a crowd favorite when we play. But yeah, definitely
- 4:19Speaker 1: faster paced. If you like fast paced punk rock, then
- 4:23Speaker 1: you'll like.
- 4:23Speaker 6: This album A reckon.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Someone described this as cathartic dB.
- 4:30Speaker 5: What the fuck is that?
- 4:32Speaker 6: dB? Like discharge? Well that's thing. Someone said, Oh, you're
- 4:35Speaker 6: playing some dB DP sounds cool?
- 4:39Speaker 5: What's that? So?
- 4:43Speaker 6: Yeah, it's all pretty Yeah, it's just fast punk rock.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Really.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Now, I notice there's no song on the album called
- 4:54Speaker 4: Staring Highest crushing loads, which means that the title's obviously
- 4:57Speaker 4: going to be more significant.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Right, yes, yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 2: I if I haven't seen someone for a while, I say, hey,
- 5:08Speaker 2: are you doing? You know, sorry, highs crushing lowers, because
- 5:12Speaker 2: that's always the case. The photo on the front cover
- 5:16Speaker 2: is it's my dad in the corner playing volleyball when
- 5:20Speaker 2: he served in Vietnam.
- 5:21Speaker 6: And Papula, New Guinea and I forget where else he served,
- 5:27Speaker 6: but that photo.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I said, I really would like this to be the
- 5:33Speaker 2: cover and gave it a day and He's gone, yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 2: that's cool.
- 5:36Speaker 6: So I think the thing is as well, because we
- 5:41Speaker 6: you know, the songs are about that.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Like there's no specific song or lyrics that says sorry,
- 5:48Speaker 2: highst crushing loaders, but that's that's really where I find
- 5:52Speaker 2: the songs go.
- 5:53Speaker 6: And half the lyrics I don't know until we record because.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I'm concentrating too hard playing drums, and when Aunt will
- 6:01Speaker 2: just blast out these lyrics and that's the best because
- 6:05Speaker 2: I'm a terrible mixer, and when we rehearse it's just
- 6:07Speaker 2: the two of us. But but yeah, sorry I was
- 6:10Speaker 2: crushing loads. That kind of feels an apt representation of
- 6:17Speaker 2: what the album really is.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Wait.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Now for those who are unfamiliar with the band and
- 6:25Speaker 4: other Rotting Corpse, just tell us a bit about ourselves.
- 6:28Speaker 5: Where do you come from, what's your your mission in life?
- 6:31Speaker 5: What's going on?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yes, that's tough. Where well, you know, we're just a
- 6:39Speaker 1: couple of Melbourne boys piss funning about making some music.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Mission just be.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Happy, man, and that's that's why we make music with
- 6:52Speaker 1: the fun of it. I think that's pretty good pretty
- 6:55Speaker 1: much it Yeah, yeah, hidden bloody agendas that I don't
- 7:01Speaker 1: know about.
- 7:04Speaker 2: No, it's just really enjoying playing shows, it's yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 6: And also we've known each other.
- 7:13Speaker 2: For a very long time, probably twenty years at this point,
- 7:18Speaker 2: and I played in this other band and then that
- 7:21Speaker 2: dissolved and showed to me, hey, I've written some songs
- 7:25Speaker 2: you want to play like jam. I'm like, yeah, cool,
- 7:28Speaker 2: let's see that. I thought I've never heard him talk
- 7:31Speaker 2: about playing guitar, and then he blew me away. And
- 7:36Speaker 2: one song, which we still play, was the very first
- 7:40Speaker 2: song that we rehearsed. All right, So it's a it's
- 7:43Speaker 2: an antique, but it's definitely one of my favorites.
- 7:49Speaker 4: You released the EP Exchange with Safe Passages back in
- 7:52Speaker 4: twenty twenty three, mates, So how does that differ musically
- 7:56Speaker 4: for the album.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Yeah, there's I reckon from then to storing highest crushing loads.
- 8:06Speaker 1: We've we've got a bit heavier, got a bit for
- 8:13Speaker 1: one of a better term punkier. That's definitely the feedback
- 8:17Speaker 1: I get from the people that have heard the new album, like, well,
- 8:20Speaker 1: you're really cranking up the punk from Exchange Exchange for
- 8:26Speaker 1: Safe Passage. So that was like really our first four
- 8:31Speaker 1: songs that we sort of played after COVID and we
- 8:35Speaker 1: were like, we need to put something out so we
- 8:37Speaker 1: can get it, get people ask us to play shows,
- 8:41Speaker 1: so we just put them out like and they're good.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I love those songs. But this is definitely more full
- 8:47Speaker 1: experience and sort of more our sound fully developed I think.
- 8:55Speaker 4: HM music in the modern ages it's a lot different
- 8:59Speaker 4: to what was even ten years ago.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Guys.
- 9:01Speaker 4: So as a band releasing your debut album in this
- 9:04Speaker 4: same age, what sorts of things you discuss? Do you
- 9:07Speaker 4: focus on certain things or do you just chuck it
- 9:10Speaker 4: out there.
- 9:10Speaker 5: And hope for the best.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, great question. Ultimately, we want people to hear it,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and we're just like it's sort of a trial and
- 9:22Speaker 1: error thing for us because we're not super like okay
- 9:26Speaker 1: with the process, so we want people to hear it,
- 9:31Speaker 1: enjoy it. And yeah, we're still figuring out the best
- 9:36Speaker 1: way to go about getting people to do that.
- 9:38Speaker 5: To be honest, it's trolling every of these days, isn't it.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Yeah, well, yeah, not much Chopper getting on the bloody
- 9:48Speaker 1: Instagram and talking into the camera.
- 9:50Speaker 4: To be honest, take you guys half a night to
- 9:52Speaker 4: get on there and say later one person, you guys have.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I had an album launch party on Saturday night, October
- 10:02Speaker 4: twenty sixth at Nighthawks with Mongrel and Crush Lavendar.
- 10:06Speaker 5: So tell us about that.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's going to be an awesome night. Nighthawks is like
- 10:12Speaker 1: one of our favorite places to play play that fair
- 10:17Speaker 1: bit and it's like how it's like homeground band. It's
- 10:21Speaker 1: sort of thing. We love it there. Mongrel is an
- 10:24Speaker 1: awesome band that I've been dying to play with for
- 10:26Speaker 1: a while, super loud, so we've got to crank how
- 10:30Speaker 1: stuff up to compete, which is awesome. And yeah, I'm
- 10:33Speaker 1: super excited to see Crush Lavendar as well. I haven't
- 10:36Speaker 1: seen him live before, but I've heard some of their
- 10:38Speaker 1: new stuff. It's really cool. So I think it's going
- 10:42Speaker 1: to be a great night and the weather's going to
- 10:44Speaker 1: be good, and we're gonna have some beers and it's
- 10:46Speaker 1: gonna be sick.
- 10:49Speaker 4: You guys have got a bit of a reputation. That's
- 10:50Speaker 4: been a fucking awesome live band. Pab so right, run
- 10:54Speaker 4: us through a typical another rotting Corpse live shown.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Man, Okay, our live show is what do we get
- 11:08Speaker 1: either forty minutes or half an hour to play twenty songs? No,
- 11:15Speaker 1: it's not that bad. I think we're I think we're
- 11:17Speaker 1: a bit down till like fifteen nowadays, aren't it, Because
- 11:20Speaker 1: I've been written some long ones.
- 11:22Speaker 6: Oh yeah, and it's written some gosa over five minutes and.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah that's a slug and we'll go forty now so
- 11:34Speaker 2: we're both trying to recover after that song in particular.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But no, but yeah, it's just rock made like we
- 11:43Speaker 1: just get on there and fucking smash it out and
- 11:44Speaker 1: it's awesome and some rubbish banter chuck, some rubbish banter
- 11:50Speaker 1: in and it's good to go. That's us and.
- 11:53Speaker 2: We just enjoyed having fun like it's like and some
- 12:00Speaker 2: make an error, I'll botch it up and we'll just
- 12:05Speaker 2: pushed through to the end of the song. It's just
- 12:08Speaker 2: I think we could play to ten or fifty people
- 12:11Speaker 2: and it's still such a good time.
- 12:16Speaker 5: All right, guys, Well, thanks very much for your time
- 12:19Speaker 5: to know.
