- 8:13Dan Schulz: What did Rocket Research Company, now Aerojet Rocketdyne, manufacture in Redmond starting in 1968?
- 8:22Dan Schulz: And your choices are A, satellite dishes, B, thrusters for NASA's Mars missions, C, electric car batteries, D, really fast bicycles.
- 8:36Dan Schulz: And your timer starts now
- 8:40Jennifer Davis: Oh boy, that's a...
- 8:42Jennifer Davis: Hmm I'm gonna go big and say...
- 8:46Jennifer Davis: 'Cause I think electric car batteries, that's, like, too new.
- 8:49Jennifer Davis: Satellite dishes I think were, it's, that's just not special.
- 8:53Jennifer Davis: Um, fast bicycles is obviously a red herring.
- 8:56Jennifer Davis: I'm gonna go with B, thrusters for NASA's Mars missions
- 9:04Dan Schulz: Houston, we do not have a problem.
- 9:07Dan Schulz: We have a big winner.

- 9:11Dan Schulz: That is correct.
- 9:13Dan Schulz: Rocket Research Company set up shop in Redmond in 1968, almost two decades before Microsoft arrived.
- 9:20Dan Schulz: they built thrusters that have been used on NASA's Mars missions.
- 9:24Dan Schulz: The very first tech company in Redmond was actually United Control in 1961, which made aircraft electronics.
- 9:31Dan Schulz: So before Redmond was building Windows and Mario, it was building rocket parts and avionics.
- 9:37Dan Schulz: The city's tech roots go way deeper than a lot of people think
- 9:41Jennifer Davis: That's really cool.
- 9:51Jennifer Davis: All right, Dan, here's one that's making the rounds in Old Redmond.
- 9:55Jennifer Davis: Word is that someone is exploring a bookshop and wine bar concept for the neighborhood.
- 10:02Jennifer Davis: The rumor says this wouldn't be a coffee shop that happens to sell wine.
- 10:07Jennifer Davis: The wine would actually be the main attraction, paired with a rotating selection of new and used books.
- 10:14Jennifer Davis: We've heard similar concepts have been doing well in Portland, but we haven't been able to confirm whether a location has been selected, who's behind it, or how far along the plans might be.
- 10:26Dan Schulz: I'll tell you, I am a proponent of mixing wine with anything.
- 10:30Dan Schulz: You know what?
- 10:30Dan Schulz: Like I- if you told me that a brand new used tire shop and wine cafe was opening up, I'd be like, "Hey, hey, gotta check out these used tires.
