- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Why are they sweaty?
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Are you are you sweaty or is it just the feet?
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: Just the feet, mostly, and my right armpit.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: I don't know what that means, but I have the opposite.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Jake calls it my rigomortis foot because my feet get sweaty.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: No, I know.
- 0:25SPEAKER_03: I know what your feet.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: I know what those those feet do.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: You don't I don't mean it like that.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I meant like that's look, that's a different, that's my other podcast.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Like I I can't I can't cross my revenue streams.
- 0:39SPEAKER_04: A real start is strong.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Look, there's been moments where I'm like, could I sell feet picks?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And then I'm gonna be honest, with my weird hypermobile feet, and then no one's gonna pay for it.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: By the way, spoke to my doctor at my physical today about hypermobility.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: And she is sending me a screening to do, and she said they're now doing a thing where you can do a pre-breast breast cancer screening test.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: And if you score a certain percentage, then you are eligible to go in earlier for breast cancer screening.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think uh I don't think we have the Broccogene in our family, but always good to check.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: You know, just good to know.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Good to check, good to have a healthy.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: I don't want to brag, but my OBGYN said I might have to be checked early because I have dense breast.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, dense breast.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: Those titties are dumb.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Her titties are thick, they're dumb as hell.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: So heavy.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: So dumb.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Her titties are so dumb, they're dense.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Adeline.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: I have to tell you.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: What?
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: We've already talked about my dense breasts and your sweaty feet.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: What the fuck are you leading into now?
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Me and my corpse feet are gripped and waiting.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: What do you feel about listening to an erotic thriller at work?
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: I'm not opposed.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: As long as it's in your headphones and no one else can hear.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: Because I didn't know, I I'm on this kick.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Los Angeles library lets you, the Libby app, you can like of course.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you can put in your request for audible, you know, books, not audible, audio books.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: And so I do this thing where I put in a bunch of requests for books, and I it takes, you know, a very long time because they're like in high demand.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: But then I get surprised because then six months later I'm like, what is this book?
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Even I start listening.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Smut.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Um, the one, it's not even, I'd even know it was smut.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: All of a sudden it became electrifying, and I was like, this is not I thought this was gonna be a thriller.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: Like I thought it was gonna be it is I mean, it is it is thrilling.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: I'm thrilled, and I just don't, I just wasn't and you know, upon like second thought, third thought, I I should have known that it was gonna be like highly erotic because the cover is it's called Centaur, it's called in the cut, and it's like a gash, more like in the uncut, am I right?
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: And it's like, but it's supposed I like you know, you and I have the same exact interest in horror novels, and so when I get a recommendation, I just go putting it on request so I can listen to it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: I thought this was gonna be a horror book, and then I'm realizing, oh, the cover is a vagina, it's a cut.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: It's honestly thrilling, it is terrifying, disgusting even.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: And hot.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: And hot, it's very, it's very problematic.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: I'm kind of like, should I stop listening to this?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Here's here's my thought.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: She does a voice, that's all I'm gonna say.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: The reader does a voice that I go, I already know.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I already know.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's great, but I also think It's not.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: It's it's not, but I was gonna say, I also think with smut, like, here's the thing.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: If anyone, you ever see the meme where it's like, if my husband actually tried the shit I read about in smut, and it's like, what the hell?
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: Get out of here.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: What are you doing?
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I feel like smut is so off the wall because it's a safe fantasy.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: So like I just want to make it clear, I didn't know it.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: No, shade to smut.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: Like, love smud, but like I just wasn't expecting this murder book to turn into smut.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: And I just was like, I am feeling so many conflicting problems.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: That how that sounds that sounds awful.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: What's the title?
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: In the uncut, in the uncut.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: No, you remind me of our um my lovely friend Haley, who is an avid, very ferocious reader.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: And the other day we were talking, and she's like, I'm so proud of myself.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I like consumed 120 books last year.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Jesus Christ, Haley.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: She's like, Oh yeah, it was mostly audio smud, but it counts.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: You know, people keep being like, Does that count?
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: It doesn't count.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: You're not reading.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: I think, listen, you have to understand, I love reading.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: It's that I'm literally working from 5 a.m.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: until I'm out of class at like 11 p.m.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: By the time I'm home, the brain can't take anymore.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: And I love being told a story.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: And I find it very thrilling, especially on my walks to listen to this.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm opposed.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: I'm a combo myself.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: I do combo too, but people I'm actually I'm actually a three combo because I have physical books I get from the library.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: I have similar to Libby, the digital books that you can get on your Kindle.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Um, and I like to use that for smut because I don't want the physical smut copy from the library.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Somebody else has looked at it.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I'm in trouble.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: I gotta turn mine in.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, they they renew automatically.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: I one time it did auto-renew, and then it said you will no longer be like allowed to pick up books if you don't turn in.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: But I like to go.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Oh no, so you're you are in trouble with the book.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: It's like a month, it's like a month, it's been a month overdue.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: That's so you took a free public service and took advantage of it.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: No, I didn't.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: It's that I'm reading this.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: I'm reading insomnia by Stephen King.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: It's a long ass book.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: That is a long book.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Speaking of which, I should have just bought it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: You should have just bought it.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: But also, speaking of Stephen King, I watched Carrie, the 1976 film, for the first time.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And Hot Take, it's one of my all-time favorites.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, I've never, I've actually never seen it.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Cecily, it is we watched it because uh we're gonna see The Thing at Cinesbia, which is gonna be super fun.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: But another showing was Carrie, 1976, which I initially wanted to see because I've already seen the thing.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: So I was like, well, watch it at home.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: It's incredible.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Highly recommend.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, and also like whole there are hang on, huge asterisk.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Women are slapped three or four times within the first like 10 minutes of the film.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: So and also hella 70s.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: There's also hella 70s Bush.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: So prepare yourself.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: But it's great.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: It's one of my now all-time favorites.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Okay, this is so exciting.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: Because The Shining is my favorite.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: It's my favorite movie, uh, Stephen King movie.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Um movie based on they're all based on booze.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: I know it's Kubrick.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: I know that.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying The Shining is my favorite that they've turned into a movie.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: The book isn't my favorite.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: It is twice as fucked up.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: Your favorite sure.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: My favorite book of his is Stephen King's His actual, his autobiography that just talks about his life.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: My favorite.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: The Shining, I also loved, but I didn't love it as much as I loved the movie.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: That's that's fair.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Which I didn't know.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: I haven't read Carrie.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: I would like to.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I want to read Carrie.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: But the movie is incredible.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Uh John Travolta's in it, which I didn't realize.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: I did not know that either.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, girl.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: He's in it.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Does he show Dong?
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: No, but there's plenty of other Bush to get you going.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Why Bush?
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Why can't I see Pen?
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: I don't understand.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: Why not Bush?
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: Bush fine, but I'm just saying Bush, fine.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: Bush, great, but I'm like, why am why do Bush get shown and not Dong?
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Because it's the 70s.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Well, there's also a scene of the gym teacher smoking in the principal's office, so that's pretty lit.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: So it's it's it's a 70s dream.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: It's now one of my all-time favorites.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Anytime I'm gonna get really overstimulated, I'm just gonna go carry and go.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: And you better look out.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Bitch, God, the things I would do.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: I actually I I'm too impulsive.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: If I had telekinesis, it would be a problem because I'd be like, maybe I should, and then the building would already be down.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Before I've even thought through the consequences.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: It could be a good thing.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: Our brains are too fast.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: We have too much going on, but that's too fast, too furious, honestly.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: I will say I'd like it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: If I could like turn that on to some someone, you know what?
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: If I if I had telekinesis, do you know what I would do 95% of the time?
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Take out the Cornell 7 or I mean that, of course, fully easily.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm saying.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Like I would love telekinesis just going.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: But would love to do that, but realistically, I would probably just grab socks because my feet are cold all the fucking time.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: That's that's like that's crazy.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: My feet are cold.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Addie, there's so much more you could do.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: My feet are cold right now.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Well, I have bad circulation, bitch.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: It sucks.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: So I just sat down.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: I have hot feet as we did.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, you have hot feet because cold feet.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: You have hot feet because you took all the good foot genes for mom's womb, leaving me with dry, frozen, cold.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Sucked it up.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Sucked it up.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: That's why your feet are so hot.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: And mine are so cold.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: Question for you What is the AC temperature that you keep your room?
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Honestly, 69.
- 9:35unknown: Okay.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: Obviously, me too, because we grew up in the South and it was that's well, our parents are also huge AC people.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Anyone in the South is big AC.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: I love being cold, so I can't.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: To be fair during the day, it's like a 73, 74.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: Are you out of your okay?
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: So I thought we were sisters and friends.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Well, look, can I explain?
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Because we put it on 69 all night, so it's cold when we wake up.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: That cold lasts through the chilly morning, and then when it starts warming up, then we put the ACD back, but the whole thing is cold with the 69 of the last night.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: I don't want to say this, but I'm going to.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: I'm disappointed in you.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I I feel like you're really coming for me in my cold feet and my not cold home.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: Cecily, I live with a just live in the heat.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: I what is the purpose?
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: This is what I was bringing up because I've been talking to so many people that are like, yeah, I keep the I keep the AC on 76, 75.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: I'm like, you don't have the AC on.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: That's not the that's not.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Cecily 7273 is respectable.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: No, it's not.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: I pay my own energy bills now.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: And again, my system is at night, it's cold with the 69.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: It doesn't heat up till like 1 p.m.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: See, I'm trying to pull like a 67 at night and 69 throughout the day.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: That's where I'm at.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: And I know that's crazy.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: What's what's your energy bill like?
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: You know, well, I I don't know.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Doesn't even know.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Don't need to know.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Not uh first of all, that's none of your business.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: First of all, it's none of your business.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: So I can't.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: First of all, it's none of my business.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: Like why why would I know that?
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: That's Wow.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: I just feel like keeping the AC on at 74, it's like just turned it off.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: That's not even anything.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: I think Stephen King's next novel should be about a thermostat.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: It's like Crystal.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: I'd blow up just cracks up.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Turn on your air conditioning.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: I hate being hot.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, actually, you're making me hot now.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Can we please get started?
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Because now I'm just hot and sweaty because you've pointed out.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Please.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I would love you to.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Me and my cold feet are gonna get started then.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: God.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: You're still not a good one.
- 12:14unknown: Ignored it.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: We're good.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, hey, welcome back.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: You are listening to the Sister Friend podcast.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: That's my sister, Cecily, bro.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: And that's my friend Adeline Minton.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: And oh, Cecily, do I have an episode question for you today?
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I'm scared.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: And I have to be honest, I wish I could say I like worked really hard and like researched all week, but genuinely I was like, I'm gonna record with Cecily tonight.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: And I think because last time I just got to enjoy it.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: In my mind, I was like, I can't wait.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: And then four hours before, I was like, oh no, it's my turn.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: It's my turn.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Oh no, it's me.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: So I did an incredible procrastinated last minute, but it works, I promise.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: It's not as in-depth research.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: But you're gonna get that little women, I believe you.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: You're gonna get that little sprinkle of just fun, because I was like, fuck it, we're doing it.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: So I have a question for you.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Are you ready?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: I'm ready.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Should we scrap this?
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Oh something else.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: By the way.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Wow, Cecily's response, a grimaced sigh.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm guessing.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: No, that question just hits because I'm always thinking, should we call it Cecily?
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I I don't mean it.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: Like, I mean like I always I love to quit.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: I see second guess all the time where I'm like, sure, that's mean, that's wrong.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: Scrap it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: That's what that's where I meant.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: I didn't mean the I didn't mean the darkness.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: I didn't do you want me to call welfare for you or are you good?
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Like I love a check-in.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I I'm not like on suicide watch, but I just love to hang out with someone.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Hey, what's it's kind of nice?
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: Someone asked me how I am.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Once again, should I call you a meals on wheels, or do you need someone to come check on you?
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Joey makes fun of me because when he's gone, I just kind of heat up potatoes in the microphone and he called me.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Cecily, you have done that.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: You have always done that, regardless.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: But we were growing up, you love a microwave.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: I love potatoes, and he calls it, he goes, I really worry about you because you just kind of eat, you put a potato in the microwave and you'll like call that dinner.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: And I go, Yeah.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: Well, it's a loaded potato.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: I go, first of all, I'm doing olive oil, as we learned.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: I've always done, and then I do some nutritional yeast.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: No, that no, I'm sorry, you lost me.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: Well, because if I'm eating this many potatoes, I can't like also the body's reacting differently to a cheese these days.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: So I'm just trying to try something.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: In my book, it's it's cheeser bust, and I apologize.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: I forgot that your body doesn't react.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Remember when we ordered the exact same meal at Birds?
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: We got rotisserie chicken and a loaded baked potato, and I was it's a fourth.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: My order is one fourth dark chicken with a loaded baked potato, and then I do the garlic aioli and rinse.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: Yes, me too.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: I literally was like, oh, that bitch ordered what I always and I go.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: That's my go to like we are from the same history.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: It's almost like Diane raised us on a John goddamn baked potato.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Um, go on.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: I Cecily, I'm love to talk about potatoes anytime with you, please.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: No.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Uh I was gonna say scrap this, yes.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Should we scrap this?
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Where I came about from this is a very long-winded ADHD Spider-Man connection web.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: So I'll I'm gonna walk you through it.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: I'm in.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: So I came up with the question for should we scrap this?
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Because we finished the month of September, and of course, within September was September 11th, which was the 25th anniversary.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I, of course, went down a deep dive on Reddit, looking up a lot of really, really dark stuff because of how my mind works and my OCD.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: However, I did it to me.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: And I did it to you.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Um, however, something kind of like I'm not gonna go through 9-11 stories with you today, today.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Maybe in the future, but not today.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: But instead, I saw, you know, with all the 25th anniversary postings, there was this stuff on Reddit that talked about pieces of media that had to be changed following 9-11.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Then I thought of other pieces of media from other tragedies and other things that had to be quickly rewritten or scrapped due to other events.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: And so that is what I'm thinking.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, wait, I'm just thinking of Jenna Morone when she's like, the thing that happened happened to help the people.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: So some of them, as I started, I mean, spoiler alert, most of them are following really bad tragedies.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: So the list got really heavy.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: So some of them are those events, and then I also threw in some that were just outrageous scraps that they were like, we gotta fucking pull this.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: So I literally have a list for you.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Just a list of different medias from 1964 to 2020 that were changed due to major events, and that's what I got for you today.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: The AFK is coming in November 23rd for the 22nd.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: I knew it!
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: Well, he knew you were off by a day.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: And okay, so let's let's let's jump.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I was pretending like they were a big thing that's on November 23rd, they were like, should we scrap this?
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: Can we scrap this?
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I'm so happy you said that because the first thing I have for you is in 1964 Stanley Kubrick's Doctor Strange Love.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: So when reviewing the contents within the movie, there's a scene where they're reviewing the contents of the bomber crew's weapon cache and the character Major TJ King Kong.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: I I'm I'm not even gonna look into that because it could be problematic, but Major originally says the line, quote, shoot, a fella could have a good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Following the assassination of President JFK on November 22nd, 1964, the studio had the actors return and dub over the original line, changing Dallas to Vegas.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: If you watch the film closely enough, you can still see the actor's mouth forming the word Dallas, but you hear Vegas.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: That's insane, dude.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: That's like wild that they said that.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: That's such a random That's Cecily, that's what all of this is, and I'm so happy because I was like, this is just a list of kind of facts, but I thought it would be a lighter way to discuss tragedies.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Adeline, please.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: This is where I live.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: I also just I can't help it from like a production standpoint, appreciate it because it's like we just filmed this entire Doctor Strange love.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: We can't reshoot this, we're just gonna dub, you know what I mean?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: So it's it's filled with stuff like that.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Las Vegas.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Shoot, a fella could have a good weekend in Toronto Toronto.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: Wait, Addy, you do it.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: Say the line and I'm gonna say I'll do the dub.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: You say Dallas.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: I'll mouth Dallas.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: You say the word.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, ready?
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Shoot.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: A fella could have a good weekend in Toronto! You were off.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: That's you know what?
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Let's I I don't think this is I don't think this makes for grid podcasting.
- 19:17SPEAKER_04: I think it's great.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: Wait, I think it'll really be good.
- 19:20SPEAKER_04: Try it again.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Try it again.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: And I'll say, I'll say I'll say it slower, also.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: You were great, by the way.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Great line.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: We're just gonna get clean on the second take.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: You're right, you're right.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much, Mr.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Kubrick.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Shoot.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: A fella could have a good weekend in Las Vegas with all that stuff.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I think we nailed it.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: I think we got it.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Worth it.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Next.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that's the first thing I found.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Obviously, a crazy event that no one could prepare for.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: That was their quick fix.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: But yeah, if you watch it, watch his mouth and you can see him say Dallas.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: So cool.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, cool.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: This one is less cool and just blatantly racist and not great.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: So and I have to like throw shade.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: A lot of these are repeat offender studios where I was like, Oh, no way.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: They keep on doing yeah, surprise.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: So you ready for this one?
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: This one blew me away.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: Um, in Aladdin, 1992.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: No.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: In its initial theatrical release, the lyrics to Arabian Nights included the line where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: After protest and public backlash, Disney changed the lyrics to where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense for the home video release.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: The lyrics have stayed this way ever since, including the Broadway musical version of the song.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: In what worlds would you ever how many people literally in 1992 said perfect?
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: And they made it to theatrical release.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm saying.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: So many fucking loser races being like perfect.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Also, like for kids, no notes, send it to the theaters.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Kids love this.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: We all can agree on that.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, so that's that's another crazy one.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Um, then I have one from 1993, which is a little bit of true crime, is kind of interesting.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: And also, before we keep going on, I am aware that there's a lot of media that was totally scrapped because actors unfortunately passed away or something like that.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: So, like an example is something gotta give with Something's Gotta Give with Marilyn Monroe.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: That was never made uh into a film until later with Jack Nicholson.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: But um, I didn't do those just because those were entirely pulled.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: So I tried to pull scraps that were adjusted and still passable.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: There was also some things where uh certain uh releases were delayed.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: So, like an example I found was Buffy the Vampire had an episode involving a school shooter that was very Very close to the Columbine shootings.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: They didn't pull it, they just waited like another year before that storyline to give audiences that.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I didn't include that one because it's not really a scrap.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: I was interested in shit like where they had to completely change a horrifically racist line or some other crazy shit.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of what we got.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: Also, it's like already done.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Like, how did they scrap it when it's already like that's very interesting to me?
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: That's what I kind of thought.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Here's the fix.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Vegas.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Vegas.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: So uh this one is is pretty heavy, but uh, I think it anyway.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Uh this one is The Good Sun in 1993.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: It's a movie.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Have you heard of it?
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: No.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Uh The Good Son had been in development since the 80s.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: It was intended to act as the transitional movie for star Macaulay Colkin, who was then 12 or 13.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, it was basically gonna be his move from his classic cute actor kid movies into more serious acting roles.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Um in the movie, Colkin's character is a psychotic kid that is obsessed with death and who plays an opposite a young Elijah Wood.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: Whoa, wait.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: I've definitely seen the clips of the Elijah Wood.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: You have, I will explain.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: However, at the time of its planned release, there was a real life murder case of a two-year-old child, James Bulger.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: He was kidnapped and then murdered by two 10-year-olds.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, considering this movie mimicked the same dark themes, the British release of this movie was scrapped.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: So there was an American release, they pulled it for British audiences because it was too close to that.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a pivot.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: That's it's getting me real like I'm like, are there such things as coincidences?
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, it's it's kind of creepy also because Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood were those ages.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: They were actually kids.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: So it's it makes it even creepier because you're looking at like a baby-faced Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin, and you think of children, yeah, it it was really fucked.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: So they they pulled it for British audiences.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Damn, interesting.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: This is 93.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: All right, this is 1993.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: We're gonna jump a little bit to 1998 with one of our favorite shows.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: 1998 Sex and City.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: I'll give you a hint.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: It was in season one in 1998 on HBO.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, I just said Sex in the City.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, you're correct.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: I I was like, bitch, I'm sorry.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: He said 1998, I said Sex and the City.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Sex and the City.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: This one's insane.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: It's more of a light-hearted one that I had to include following a child murder.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: You know, listeners, listen.
- 24:43SPEAKER_03: Adeline and I swim in dark waters and obviously know that this all we feel everything, and this is our way of coping with it.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: And, you know, no sensitivity, but just had to say, No.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: We are obsessed with the darkness, and so we hit ourselves.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: And I we we don't mean any disrespect with doing it.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: I just think it's fascinating that A, these things somehow got passed.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: B, if they did, how they fixed it.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: And some of these other ones are, you'll see exactly why.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: And like this one is this one's insane.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: You ready?
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Tell me, tell me, tell me.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Alright, on season one, episode seven of Sex in the City, an episode entitled The Monogamist.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, in the episode, Charlotte is dating a man named Michael who is constantly pressuring her into giving him oral sex.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, Michael also owns a golden retriever named Butterscotch.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Red flag number one.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, immediately I'm like, anyone that names their dog like a candy thing, I'm like, okay, so you don't understand.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Girl, girl.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: In the episode value life.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, move on.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: I said what I said.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Butterscotch, red flag.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm gonna say.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm gonna say.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: In the episode that made it to air, Charlotte gets fed up of being pressured and of the c dog's constant watching of their intercourse.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: If you remember the episode, He won't put the dog out, right?
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: When she uh eventually blows up and chews the guy out, he she storms out.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: And that's how the episode that aired ended in that scene.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: However, in the original script, which was filmed, they did film this, Charlotte decides to go back after her outburst and apologize to Michael, only to catch Michael with peanut butter on his dick while Butterscotch licks it off.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: HBO executives!
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: Cowards, because you know what?
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: A man that names their dog Butterscotch, you want to tell me he's not?
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: HBO executives refuse to air the sequence.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: And the footage was never released or published to the public.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: I'd like to get my eyes on it.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: I'd like to know how they shot this.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, to be fair.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, also I'm sure they would do it in a cheeky sex in the city way where his dick's not on screen, but it's clearly, but I have to be honest, I would love to see prude Charlotte freak out.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: That's pretty that's the best part, is that Charlotte's always put in the most insane situations?
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: Like she's the most brood and the most like horrifying.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: So I get why they scraped.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Like I to see to see her reaction to that would have been especially because in the episode she runs, like she blows up, and then such like it is such a Charlotte thing to go back and be like, I'm sorry for losing my cool.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: But when she comes back, like, oh, it would be you could see where they were going, but yes, that was scrapped.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: That's I'm sorry.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Mistake.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: It should have been kept in.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Men are creeps that need to be kept in, okay?
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: But the dog didn't deserve that.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: It's not his fault he was named Butterscotch.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: No, we're not blaming the dog in this at all.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: And I obviously don't want that filmed.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: I'm not a monster disgusting.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: I'm saying I just want to see Charlotte's reaction.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: That would have been hilarious.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: That would have been hilarious.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: But they apparently did film it.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: So it made it to fucking set being funny.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Huge.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: That's so funny, Addy.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: This next one.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: This next one is not funny, but it's funny because what the fuck?
- 28:31unknown: Okay.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: We're jumping a little bit to 2001.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: We're not yet addressing.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: I do have some 9-11 changes that were made.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: There's a ton, because of course 9-11, the skyline was completely changed after the events, you know.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: So there's a ton.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: I do touch on that, but before we get into that 2001, we have to first discuss Disney's superstar limo ride at Disney, California Adventure.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Is this ringing any bells?
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Oh yes.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: This attraction gave riders the Diana?
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: This attraction gave riders the experience of a high-speed chase from paparazzi.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: They scrapped it once they realized it was immensely insensitive to the death of Princess Diana in 1997, where she, her driver and security Henry Paul, and her companion slash film producer Dodi Fayed were killed in a limousine car wreck after being mobbed by the paparazzi while in transit.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, dude.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: And that was in 2001.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: So like they had some time.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: That's not even how many years is that?
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: Two years?
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: No, wait, it was 97.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: So I I read that they then tried to change it where it's not as fast.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: But then of course, kids were like, but the concept is still you're in a limo and there's paparazzi.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: What?
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: So then the kids literally were like, Well, this ride sucks.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: It's not even going the speed of a car.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Like, we're just driving in a car now.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Being killed by the royal family.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: The ride permanently closed on January 11th, 2002, lasting less than a year at operation.
- 30:09unknown: Oh.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: It was then replaced in 2006 by Monsters in Eek, Mike, and Sully to the rescue.
- 30:18SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 30:20unknown: Sure.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: But I read this and I was like, well, this has got to go on the list.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: It wasn't even 10 years.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: And they were like, perfect.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: What?
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: And I just love that they literally, it ran.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: Like there were writers on it.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't until people came and did it that they were like, later.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: We should probably scrap this.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: That's not so banana.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: No.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: I can't even fathom.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: How are these people in charge?
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: I'm like, how are people in charge?
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: What the fuck?
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't know.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: This does then bring us to September 11th, 2001.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Like, like I said, there was a lot of different changes that were made.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Of course, any scene that featured the skyline of New York immediately following, I know Zoolander digitally edited it to be sensitive.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: It was close to it.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: They didn't have to refilm, but they did remove it.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of 2001 releases that made those adjustments.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: There's also Sex in the City changed their intro, Sopranos changed their intro.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: A lot of people made those changes.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: But I have a couple of others that were just kind of tweaked within that.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: And some that I thought were like kind of more interesting.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: So it's not a ton, but here are some changes that happened following September 11th, 2001.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: So one of the movies was Spider-Man 2002.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: The original trailer featured Spider-Man creating a massive web between the Twin Towers to entrap a helicopter.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: However, of course, following the 9-11, they scrapped this version of the trailer and they also removed a key art poster that featured the reflection of the towers in Spider-Man's uh a mask.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Whoa, whoa.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: And in their defense, I don't think that's they had no idea that the events of 9-11.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: What's interesting is like how like that was so synonymous with New York, like that it was just like Of course, you know.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: It was part of the it was one of the major points of the skyline, you know.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: So of course Spider-Man's gonna use that's gonna be in the promo.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's um, but you can Google it, you'll still see some of the the key art.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: It's the very classic reflective eye on his mask, and the towers are in it.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: So they scrapped that.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: Side note, have you seen the sorry the Good Morning America with like Al Roker when when it happened when 9-11?
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: And there's a peanut head, which means somebody witnessed the events of 9-11 from the eyes of the Mr.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Peanut mascot head.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Of course I've seen that.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: I also have I have I have some more.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: So we we do have to keep going because I I have a bunch.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: There's some past 9-11, also, so I promise the rest is not just 9-11.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, it seems as if no, but okay, when I was looking for this though, majority, of course, that I found was post-9-11 changes because the skyline was so iconic.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: So it actually was kind of hard because I was like, I do want some, but not all.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's major, yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Of course it's major, but I also was like, okay, how I don't how do I put not 9-11 in my search?
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Because respectfully not 9-11.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Cecily, we have to be respectful.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: Do we scrap this?
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: We're gonna scrap this.
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: The whole episode is us scrapping everything.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Hey, real quick, let's scrap that.
- 33:38SPEAKER_04: Um not 9-11.
- 33:40SPEAKER_04: Come on.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: We'll keep it I will, not 9-11.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, this one's cool.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: You'll like this one.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: It's it is referencing 9-11, post-9-11 change.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: But listen, it's cool.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: And then I have I have two more, so keep it fucking together.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: I got it.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Um, another movie that was changed following 9-11 is our beloved Monsters Inc., which came out in 2001.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Um, now when Monsters Inc.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: came out, majority of the film was already done.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: There wasn't obviously a skyline issue, like a lot of the other post-9-11 changes had to be made.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: And this one, there's a scene where Sully and Mike are running away from the Scream Factory, and when they do so, there's a giant green force field that illuminates the back alley that they're running from.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Do you recall this?
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: I'll show I have a screen grab too to show you the change.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course I do.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: I have Monsters Angel committed to my memory.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Uh basically, uh, this was a quick fix from the original scene, which featured a traditional fiery orange uh explosion.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Disney felt that the original explosion was too similar to the events of 9-11, uh, especially considering how close the attacks were, and that they were running in a back alley a la Manhattan.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Um so instead they scrapped it for a green force field.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: And we'll screen share.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, I have to send a request.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: You have to explain it.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: I'll allow it.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Allow.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Allow withdrawn.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, wrong one.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: What this, what this is my screen, hang on.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: I'll scrap this this entire um, but no, this was the original change.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: So this was the original, obviously, in pre-production.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: And then in post, they made it this green, more alienistic to kind of make it look less like a fireball.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: I see, I see it.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: Because I at first I'm kind of like, what?
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: And then I'm like, oh.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: But it does look like you could see why they did it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: And this is more kid friendly, more uh not realistic.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: It's it's more alien-esque, monster-esque.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: So that was that was this one, which I thought was a good scrap.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: There's some good scraps in the city.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's some people that had their fucking working hat on.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: My god.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Thank God.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Uh this one's fun.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: This is the same film.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: One is a post-9-11 fix and one is a non-post-9-11 fix that they still did.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, any guesses to what movie that is?
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: What movie is this?
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: What year?
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: It's another Disney, 2002.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: That it's it's po it's something about 9-11.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: I have I have two posts for this.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: Two changes that they made.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: One was in reference to the 9-11 attacks, and one was just a change that they wanted to make because I'll explain.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: For Monsters Inc.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: No, this is a new movie that you are guessing.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: Scrap this.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: Scrap this.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: Scrap it.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: I thought about it.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Scrap it.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: So you're asking me that.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Did you have too many goddamn shrimp chips or whatever the hell before this?
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: Focus.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: Addiewee, I did have shrimp chips.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: I know you did.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Because all you eat are shrimp chips and raw baked potatoes, you crazy person.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: The doctor says I have a clean bill of health.
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: Anyway, um, okay.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: The movie understand Cecily.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Listen, look, look at me, look at me.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: It's a visual thing.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: You are guessing a movie that came out in 2002.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: It's a children's movie.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: Any guesses.
- 37:19unknown: Please.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: Any guess for a movie that came out in 2002?
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: Spy kids.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: A children's spy kids.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: No.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: It's any kids.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: James the Giant page.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm just gonna tell you.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Lelo and Stitch.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: Lilo and Stitch.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Why would I guess Lilo and Stitch?
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: They're in Hawaii.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: So a Pearl Harbor joke was made.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Well, no, but you're being that, scrap that.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: You don't get to scrap everything and leave me with the fucking incense in it.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Cecily, this is episode.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: This is episode three.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: We have to get it together.
- 37:55SPEAKER_04: I go, I go, Addy, I'll edit this one.
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: I edit all the time.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: No, you're mine now.
- 38:00unknown: You keep yours.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: Just it's just me.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, no.
- 38:04unknown: Okay.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: So Lilo and Stitch.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: So Lilo and Stitch came out in 2002, and I have two things that they changed for this.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: One is in reference to the 9-11 attacks.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: And the original version of the animated film's climax, Stitch hijacks a commercial Boeing 747 and flies it on a destructive joyride through a metropol metropolitan city.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: Disney reanimated the sequence, changing the aircraft into an alien spaceship and rerouting the flight over Hawaii's mountains and oceans instead of buildings.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that that's important.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Okay, go on.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: So that's that's the one post-9-11.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: They made another change, though, that was not in reference to the 9-11 attacks.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: Any guesses if you heard this?
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna let you guess anymore.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: This game isn't fun because you're bad at it.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna tell you.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: Another change that they made to Lilo and Stitch, I'm trying to think.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: I'm like What?
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking You're so bad at guessing, and I keep leading you to guess.
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: And it's I honestly at this point it's on the something to do with the alien.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Cecily, I want you to know I love you so much.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: If we ever go to a trivia night, get the fuck away from me.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Why do you think I don't go?
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: I don't want to go.
- 39:22SPEAKER_04: I'm not going.
- 39:24SPEAKER_04: You can't make me.
- 39:26unknown: Okay.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: No one wants you on their trivia team.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: It's mutual.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 39:30SPEAKER_04: No worries.
- 39:31SPEAKER_04: I'm good.
- 39:32SPEAKER_04: Okay, tell me.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: I got my shrimp chips.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: Fucking shrimp chips, leave me alone.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: No.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: In Lilo and Stitch, there was another scene that was scrapped in which Lilo hides from her sister by hiding into a dryer machine.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Disney execs were concerned that young children might attempt the same after watching the movie, which could lead to accidental death or injuries.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: Instead, they scrapped the dryer and updated the animation to feature a countertop and a pizza box that Lelo uses to hide instead.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: And if you remember, she pulls it up like this.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: That's because the original animation was a dryer.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: They just redid it so that it looks like she's hopping under and she grabs a pizza box to like hide herself.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: But the reason it goes up is because it was originally a dryer.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's smart.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: Kids are gonna be climbing into dryers.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: We gotta be careful.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Gotta be careful with our message.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: That was a good scrap.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: That was both of those.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: One of those shouldn't have made it that far.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Again, shocking that that made it as far as shocking that it took the terrorist attacks for them to be like, maybe this is heavy for a kid.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: Pretty wild.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: Well, they were really not worried about that with us.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, we were I can't watch Lion King.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: Like, I I I can't do it.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I go, what?
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: I know it's Hamlet, but that's enough.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: Enough's enough.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Well, and you know, some of those, uh, some of the scenes in that where they're marching is taken directly from Nazi shoulder footage.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Shoulder footage.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: Sh fuck you.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Soldier footage.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: I have a bunch of other really good ones, but I'll be honest, my feelings are hurt.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: I'm ready.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: I'm ready.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: My feelings are my feelings are hurt.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: I'm ready.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: I'm recovered now.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you were hurt.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: You told me you wouldn't take me to trivia, so you know.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Cecily, I want you to know that no one would take you to trivia.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they would.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: I'm a blast.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: And by the way, uh, there's some things I know.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: So go on Austin Powers.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: Cecily's Cecily's trivia topics.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: 2008 hip hop songs.
- 41:44SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: Austin Powers.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: End of list.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: Trader drove snack aisle items.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: Well, actually, not even, just shrimp chips.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: That's all I know.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Shrimp chip varieties.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: There is just one.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: Tart tart cherry juice varieties.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: How dare you?
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: I did just buy three bottles.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: And I'm excited.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: I'm excited to crack one open tonight.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Treat yourself.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, we'll keep this moving then so that you can get to your cherry juice and your shrimp chips.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Um this one is really cool, and I think Joey would be interested.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: Any guesses as to what the show is, then, considering that it is Pokemon.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: You got it.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: It is Pokemon.
- 42:28unknown: Pokemon!
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: It is Pokemon Japan from 2004.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Uh there is a banned episode from Pokemon's Advanced Generation episode 101 titled Shaking Island Battle, Barboach versus Wishcash.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: The episode featured Wishcash causing earthquakes as its attack move.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Pokemon scrapped the episode from airing following the October 2004 Chuetsu earthquake.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: Considering Japan is frequently hit with many earthquakes, the studio also implemented a ban for any Japanese Pokemon to feature Pokemon battle moves such as Earthquake, Magnitude, and Fissure, so as to be respectful of past and future earthquake sensitivities.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: You know that there's a bunch of banned Pokemon cards that you can get?
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: There's like why why are they banned?
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: They well, they like made it to market, but then they got banned because there were like inappropriate things, like hidden things in them.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Like there's like uh Ghastly's like underneath uh like a sewer drain, like looking up, and it you can tell he's like looking up someone's skirt.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: You know, it's like weird little cards.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Some knowledge I learned.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: I wonder if the Japanese cards, well, this one just said the Japanese uh the Japanese Pokemon animes are the ones that are banned.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: So I don't think the cards, if their attack move is that, but just in the thing, they know that.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: No, but like the animations, yeah.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: And that ban is still in effect today.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Damn.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, right.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: Respectful as hell.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Lovely.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I thought that was cool.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, not Cool, but interesting.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: This one's not as cool nor interesting.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: This one's just kind of like a yeah, no shit.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Discovery Channel featured a reality show called American Guns in 2012.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: It's about an American family of professional gun makers.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: However, after the Sandy Hook mass shooting in December of 2012, the show was promptly scrapped after only two seasons.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's a wrap.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: I think that's enough.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: And can I just say, I mean, no disrespect to gunmakers.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: It can't be that interesting.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: They're just like a blacksmith almost.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Like, what what is your family?
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: You know what show I wish they'd bring back?
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: Remember that TLC show or Discovery show where it was a fa it was called the Family Plot, and it was a family that ran a mortuary.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: And it was reality TV.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: I thought it was Six Feet Under, but maybe I'm confusing.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: Six Feet Under is like an actual TV show.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm confusing the two, but I do remember that show because it was a family that ran a mortuary.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: A family-run mortuary.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: Way more interesting.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: So cool.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: I was going to bring that back.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Discovery Channel, bring that back.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: We don't need American guns.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: We have enough of them.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: God forbid.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: What annoying movement.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: But in light of that, unfortunately, the same tragedy kind of positively influenced this one, and I'll explain why.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Um are you have you heard of the game Subnautica?
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: No.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: I believe there's Subnautica 1, 2, 3, and 4?
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: They've made many.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: Um Subnautica was in production in 2012 when the Sandy Hook mass shooting occurred.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: In response, the game dev studio, Unknown Worlds Entertainment, made the conscious decision to remove all guns from their game or player inventory.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: Co-creator Charlie Cleveland wanted to move away from making a violent shooter game.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Instead, players only had a knife within their weapon inventory, which actually provided more environment environmental storytelling.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: So in this game, you are dropped, uh basically you are jumping from this giant exploding aircraft.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: You're in the middle of the ocean, and you have to use the scraps of what's falling to make your base and survive.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: So instead of being at the top of a food chain with modern warfare weapons, the player is instead left in a vast ocean filled with Leviathans, which are sea monsters.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: I know with only a small knife to defend themselves, thus motivating the player to build up their base for protection, etc.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: So that change obviously was inspired by, you know, we don't want to give a kid a game that has guns, especially considering the Sandy Hook events.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Um instead, it kind of motivated the game to be more of what it is today, because it's like, hey, you have this small knife, you have to build up your base because you can't defend yourself.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: So it became much more about how to survive with very minimal things.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: It kind of made humans at the bottom of the food chain in this game.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: I do too.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of the positive spin.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: We love positivity here on the show.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: Because some of these other ones are not great.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: How many?
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: I have one, two, three, four, five.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Five more pieces of media.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: So we'll run through them.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: This is okay.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's why I led with the dog wiener licking, because I was like, the rest of these are kind of heavy.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: But again, interesting.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: In 2013, Netflix released Bird Box, which starred Sandra Bullock, if you recall if you can't.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Inspired by our true story of how we came to California.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: We found our way.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Um in the original cut of the film, uh, there's an intro, basically the movie, there's an apocalypse, which of course causes, you know, you can't look out or else the monsters get you.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: So in the beginning, there is a classic news episode of tragedies that are happening in light of the apocalypse happening.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: However, in the original cut of the film, Netflix used actual footage from the real life tragedy of the 2013 Lac Méjantique rail disaster, where 47 people were killed and much of the downtown area was destroyed.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: If I can, in Netflix's defense, they used the clip after finding it on a stock site, vendor Pod 5 site.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: The same footage was also mistakenly used in a Netflix sci-fi series, Travelers.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: What?
- 48:32unknown: I know.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Following outcry from the victim's family, uh, multiple families, Netflix first stated that they had no plan to remove the clip from Bird Box.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:44SPEAKER_01: They were just like, nah, we found it.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: And also the stock site didn't say anything.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Uh why they made that stock publicly available, I don't know.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: But Netflix really fucked up because they used it twice in two different medias.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: However, in March 2019, Netflix reversed its decision, apologized to the Lac Mégantique uh community, and announced it would be replacing that footage with other stock footage for the scene.
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I feel like we just do that from the beginning.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: I don't want to defend them, but like part of me is like, did they think it was animated?
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Did they not realize this was a real I don't know, but I don't know, I just feel like I would double check like tragedy footage if I like to be honest, in 2013, I don't think animation was that good.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: It's not like we had AI to kind of help you cut the corners to get there.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: So I just even today I can tell when things are not real.
- 49:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's certainly gotten better, but I'm like, you can tell when things are green screen, you can tell when things you know what I mean?
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: Like which speaking of Carrie, there's the scene where they have a practical set and it holds up so well.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Just go back to practical, please.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Go back to practical.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: It looks so much and also don't use real footage of a real fucking tragedy.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: Hot tip.
- 50:02unknown: Oh my god.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: Hot tip.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: Feels like kind of like we know that, but it seems as if we don't.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, the same year, different movie.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: So 2013, a movie called Gangster Squad with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone uh came out.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: Warner Brothers originally featured a trailer for Gangster Squad, which had a scene where mobsters opened fire with machine gun through a movie theater screen.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: However, following the real-life mass shooting at the Dark Knight Rises screening in Aurora Colorado, Warner Brothers scrapped the trailer.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: Uh the Graumans Chinese movie theater scene was entirely scrapped and instead replaced with a different shoot shot outside in Chinatown.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:48unknown: Yeah.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: And this one I read, it was, of course, to you know pay respect to the people that had passed away.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: But also, if you recall, many people were scared to go to movie theaters following.
- 50:59SPEAKER_01: I see.
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: Of course, I am now.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Many people are.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: It's a horror.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a horrifying thing, but yes, that is why they changed that.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: And they completely took it out of the movie and changed it.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: Holy shit.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: So that's a good scrap.
- 51:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: This one is kind of funny.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: And they kind of leaned into it later.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Archer, the animated show on FX from 2014.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: I pulled this from an article on CNN.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: Uh the article is well, I won't say it because it says the name, but it's from CNN.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: Quote: The adult animated FX series focuses on operative Sterling Mallory Archer, who's voiced by actor H.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: John Benjamin, who works for the New York-based International Secret Service Intelligence, or ISIS.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Tough.
- 51:49SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: Oh my God.
- 51:51SPEAKER_02: That's like I love Archer.
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: I forgot.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is absolutely called that.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: So uh obviously, given the ISIS terrorist group, they realize this isn't gonna work.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: So the writers of the show leaned into this change with the season six premiere where the previous ISIS agency is dissolved and the characters must transition to be contractors with the CIA.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, yeah.
- 52:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: And I read it too, and apparently the the people had when they started it, they heard there was possibly rumblings, but this was before ISIS really made huge unfortunate like news like that.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: So they immediately changed it once, of course, that group started becoming a genuine terrorist group and doing horrible things.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: But I just love that they leaned into it and they're like, no, no, we're contractors now.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's it's pretty fucking funny.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like that.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: So they they they kind of winked, winked, nod, leaned into it, which I think is smart.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: And the CIA, well done.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Um, this one is is again uh dark history, but interesting.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: I I again darkly interesting.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: We love it.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Um this is about Lego set number 21047.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: It's the Las Vegas skyline.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: Uh following the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, Lego redesigned its Las Vegas Skyline set to include the Bellagio instead of the Mandalay Bay.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: There were very few sold of the original set, which featured the Mandalay Bay, uh, which means that now the original set is considered a rare collector's item and is very expensive in the secondhand market.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: That yeah, yeah, that's what yeah, absolutely.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: And not to defend Lego, but it's not like Mandalay Bay knew that some asshole was gonna start, you know what I mean?
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: Like that one, I'm not I'm not excusing it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: I'm happy they made that change.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: But I also could see how if you're really into rare collectors items, like if only in certain number you know what I mean?
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: But I thought that was interesting.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: They were like, let's make it the Pellagio, time to fix.
- 53:58unknown: Oh my god.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: Wow, good for them.
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: Call it.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: Uh I got one more for you.
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: I'm ready.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: It's from 2020.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: Can you guess what tragedy it was related to?
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: You know what was funny is as you were going through this whole list, I was like, God, we haven't even made it to 2020.
- 54:13SPEAKER_03: What a long life of weird, bad things.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I I'm sure there's plenty more for the pandemic that happened, but this one's pretty fucking funny.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: What uh New Amsterdam in 2020.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: It's a medical drama show.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: It was set to feature an episode titled Pandemic, sure, where a deadly flu outbreak occurs.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: The episode was set to air on April 7th, 2020.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: That's and was promptly scrapped in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic, which began in April or March of 2020.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 54:46SPEAKER_03: That's wild.
- 54:48SPEAKER_03: Very wild.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: Messages are getting sent somehow.
- 54:56SPEAKER_03: We're I'm gonna have a weird night tonight.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you once we have to.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna think.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: But that's that's the end of the list.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: I'm sure there's tons more.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: There's a million more, I'm sure.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: But this is what I'm saying.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: But this is what I pulled today that I thought was fascinating and crazy.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: Thank you for pulling this.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: This is so interesting and so listen.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, should we scrap this?
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: I think we're we might have to wait and see what the fuck happens in our goddamn world.
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: I we probably will.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: We probably will.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: I think we just call it.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Let's just scrap it.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: Let's just scrap it.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: This was fun.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: Pause that's over.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Scrap that.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: I've been doing this thing.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: It's actually more of a vocal stim.
- 55:39SPEAKER_04: I've been doing this.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: I know, I do it.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: I've been I say sure so often now because of you.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: No, um, my vocal stim has been I'll say something, and if someone corrects me, like, oh, like I saw that actor and whatever it is, and someone's like, no, it was this, I go, huh, withdrawn.
- 55:56unknown: Withdrawn.
- 55:57unknown: I love you.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: As if there's someone keeping record of oh, okay, withdrawn.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: Withdrawn.
- 56:03unknown: I love that.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: No one else seems to, but I think it's funny.
- 56:07unknown: I think it's really funny.
- 56:08unknown: I'm having a good time.
- 56:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, do you have a favorite of what we listed that of scraps that you've read?
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: I have to be honest, so many of them are so heavy, of course.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: I I have to say, I think my favorite is the dog licking penis one and sex in the city.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: What's so wild is that like the world is so fucked up that like all of the stuff you were saying, I was like, yeah, yeah.
- 56:31SPEAKER_03: Like I was like, yeah, this all tracks for me.
- 56:33SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep.
- 56:34SPEAKER_03: The dog one really made me laugh.
- 56:37SPEAKER_03: I I finished the screen.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: I really I would pay money to see the writers pitch this, and they're like, no, hear me out.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: Charlotte, really uptight.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: We have a situation that she walks back.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Like, I also could see her going to brunch the next day, and the smash cut is her at brunch going, Auntie used the good peanut butter.
- 57:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Addy, that's it's my own organic peanut butter.
- 57:05SPEAKER_03: Or like Carrie's like, I'll have a peanut butter and jelly.
- 57:07SPEAKER_03: She goes.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: And Samantha goes, peanut butter, consider me jelly.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: And then Miranda, and then Miranda's like, I think it's unethical.
- 57:23SPEAKER_01: What if he had a peanut allergy?
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: And then uh Carrie comes in and goes, Big is moving to Paris.
- 57:31SPEAKER_04: I love those.
- 57:34SPEAKER_04: Big is moving to California.
- 57:36SPEAKER_04: Big is moving to California.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: No one cares, Carrie.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: God.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: Also, the most realistic part was Miranda's like, Jesus Christ, Carrie.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: Like, that's how I know I'm a Miranda.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Because I would be like, you're a fucking idiot, and I will tell you to your fucking face.
- 57:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it must be sad.
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: But I have to be the most interesting character on the case.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: I love Miranda.
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: I I have to I'm I'm glad they scrapped it because oh my god, that I don't want to no animal cruelty needs to happen.
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: However, however, oh shit, my computer's about to die.
- 58:09SPEAKER_01: No Cecily, if this why don't you end this and save it, please?
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Or no, charge it, charge it.
- 58:16SPEAKER_03: I just honestly, honestly, this episode.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: This this episode might be scrapped whether we choose it or not.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Honestly.
- 58:23SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, that was really close.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: That was bad.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: We have to go before before we really it's scrapped by the gods of technology.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: This was a really stressful episode.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: And I feel like sweating again.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: I'm sweating again.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: I just I'm gonna try to think of butterscotch and that I'm just gonna try to picture Charlotte's.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: No, I'm gonna think about just the screen grab of Charlotte's face witnessing that.
- 58:49SPEAKER_03: By the way, I'm putting my my computer charger into the wall.
- 58:52SPEAKER_03: I have to hold it because it won't stay in the socket.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: And that's on tension, that's on stress.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: And I don't mean to say I'm an American hero, but maybe next time I record on my end.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: Just you're welcome to try.
- 59:10SPEAKER_04: It ain't easy being me.
- 59:12SPEAKER_04: It ain't easy.
- 59:14SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: I'm starving.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: I have to go not eat peanut butter, eat some other stuff.
- 59:19SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna eat another potato.
- 59:20SPEAKER_03: Um, all right, sister.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: Talk to you soon.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: All right, sister.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: I love you.
