- 0:00Genesis chapter 40. Let us pray.
- 0:06Our God is higher, Our God is better.
- 0:09Our God is the only God. You are the King of the
- 0:13universe. You're the King of kings and the
- 0:15Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ high and exalted above every
- 0:21principality, above every government official, above every
- 0:25leader of the land. It is Jesus Christ who takes his
- 0:29rightful place on the throne of our hearts.
- 0:32We give him full obedience today.
- 0:35We laid down every other lover. We laid down every other idol.
- 0:39We laid down all of our own cleverness, all of our own
- 0:45abilities, all of our own self gratification, all of our own
- 0:50self preservation. We laid down all of our arms.
- 0:54We laid down every single defense mechanism.
- 0:58We laid down our very lives today.
- 1:01We laid down our families. We laid down every single thing
- 1:05that we have built up that has a wall against the holy presence
- 1:08of God. We break down that wall and
- 1:11allow the kind of glory to come in to flood our lives, to flood
- 1:15our minds, to flood our hearts. We only want more of you, King
- 1:19Jesus. It's all about you, King Jesus.
- 1:22Nothing is worth anything without you, Jesus, So we only
- 1:26want you. We desire you, Jesus.
- 1:29We desire a touch from you, Jesus.
- 1:34You are our everything. You're the breath in our lungs.
- 1:37You're their minds. You are all of our thoughts.
- 1:40You are the very emotions and the feelings.
- 1:43You are our circumstances. You are moving mightily all
- 1:47around us. Stir up fresh wind and fresh
- 1:50fire. God, I pray fan the flame today.
- 1:54Lord, increase the zeal of our hearts and minds.
- 2:00Let us take back the territory that we have capitulated.
- 2:07Let us take back all of the territory that we have
- 2:12squandered. God, every single time that we
- 2:16let our guard down, every single time that we gave the enemy a
- 2:21foothold, God, we rightfully take back all of that territory
- 2:27within our minds, within our hearts, within our houses, our
- 2:32marriages, the relationships that we have with our children,
- 2:35our workplaces. God, we take back that territory
- 2:39and we place the flag of Jesus Christ.
- 2:43The victory that you have won, we place it there.
- 2:49We do not give the enemy any more control over our lives.
- 2:59In the mighty name of Jesus, he is defeated.
- 3:02In the mighty name of Jesus, he is broken down.
- 3:05He is crushed underneath the feet of the Saints.
- 3:11The gates of hell will never prevail against the church.
- 3:16Lord, I pray for the family unit.
- 3:18God, I pray for marriages. God, I pray that we'll choose
- 3:22life today. God, I pray that we'll lay down
- 3:26all of our addictions, God, and we'll become addicted to you and
- 3:30addicted to your word, addicted to your voice, addicted to Your
- 3:34presence, addicted to worship unto you night and day, day and
- 3:39night, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- 3:42Let us walk in the prayerfulness You've called us to the ministry
- 3:47of prayer that you have given us.
- 3:49God, we thank you, Father, for all that you've given us.
- 3:55We thank you, God, for your holy word.
- 3:57We thank you God for salvation. We thank you, God, for saving us
- 4:01to the utmost. We thank you for a life worth
- 4:04living. We thank you God for your
- 4:06presence. We thank you, God, for showering
- 4:08us with Jesus's blood and covering us.
- 4:13God, we only want more of you. King Jesus, come and get your
- 4:17glory. Holy Spirit, fill us up today,
- 4:20not just a little, not just to the top, but overflowing.
- 4:24God help us to love our neighbors.
- 4:26We pray for our enemies today. In the mighty name of Jesus
- 4:30Christ, I pray, Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 4:41And it came to pass after these things that the Butler of the
- 4:44king of Egypt and his Baker had offended their Lord, the king of
- 4:48Egypt. So somehow there perhaps there
- 4:51was some kind of murder plot against the Pharaoh and there
- 4:55were some suspects here and one of them would have been the cup
- 4:58bearer and the other one would have been the Baker.
- 5:01Let's see how the story goes. Verse 2.
- 5:04And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the
- 5:08chief of the butlers and against the chief of the bakers.
- 5:11This is the front of the house and the back of the house.
- 5:14And somehow, some way, there was some kind of plot, perhaps to
- 5:18poison him. And he did not know if it was
- 5:21the waiter or if it was the chef. 3 And he put him into the
- 5:27ward, in the House of the captain of the guard, into the
- 5:29prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
- 5:32So wait a minute. Stop.
- 5:34Pump the brakes. We get a little insight here in
- 5:39this verse that you might miss if you're not paying close
- 5:42attention. Look at where Joseph is.
- 5:47He put them. Who?
- 5:48The Baker and the chef. He put them.
- 5:52It was actually the cupbearer and the Baker.
- 5:55He put them in ward, in the House of the captain of the
- 6:02Guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
- 6:07So you see here that Joseph is still in the company and
- 6:14protection of the captain of the Guard, which we know was
- 6:18Potiphar. So here is a little revelation
- 6:21for us to pay attention to. This is where we would get the
- 6:26idea that Potiphar perhaps knew that it was all a bunch of
- 6:29farce. It was a mockery for his wife to
- 6:34try to pretend as if this righteous man Joseph would have
- 6:37done any of the sorts that he was accused of for.
- 6:42And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he
- 6:45served them, and they continued a season in ward.
- 6:49So here this cupbearer and Baker, they are in prison, and
- 6:57they're under Joseph's direction. 5 And they dreamed a
- 7:03dream, both of them. Each man is dreaming one night,
- 7:06each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the
- 7:09Butler and the Baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in
- 7:13the prison. So they both had a dream and
- 7:15let's see how it goes. 6 And Joseph came in unto them in the
- 7:21morning and he looked upon them and behold, they were sad.
- 7:25So this shows the great care that Joseph had for all those
- 7:29that were in the prison. He actually cared about them.
- 7:32They were not just a number, they were not just a game, they
- 7:36were not just a job. They were actual people.
- 7:40And that is the heart of God. Friends is when we move from
- 7:43seeing people as the ability for us to climb the corporate ladder
- 7:48to step on to get to the top. Whenever we finally get to a
- 7:52place where people become important, they become the most
- 7:55important thing that we're going to do for that day.
- 7:58It's not about money, it's not about privilege, it's not about
- 8:02possessions, it's not about progress.
- 8:05It's not about any of the things that the world makes it about,
- 8:08Friends. It's about loving the Lord God
- 8:11with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul,
- 8:14with all your strength, and loving your neighbor as
- 8:17yourself, and all of the laws filled, if we will do those
- 8:21things, friends. 7 And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were
- 8:28with him in the ward of his House, of the Lord's house,
- 8:31saying, Why do you look so sadly today?
- 8:348 And they said to him, We've dreamed a dream.
- 8:37There's no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do
- 8:41not interpretations belong to God.
- 8:44Tell me them, I pray you. So here Joseph rightfully
- 8:49understood that he could not interpret the dreams, but that
- 8:53God, if the Lord was willing, would give them the
- 8:57interpretations of the dream. And it's interesting to know
- 9:00with all of the people of the land, there was no one there who
- 9:04was truly connected to God except for Joseph.
- 9:07And Joseph understood that it was to God to interpret dreams.
- 9:12It's not for us. 9 And the chief Butler told his dream to Joseph
- 9:20and said to him, in my dream, behold, a vine was before me. 10
- 9:24And in the vine there were three branches, and it was as though
- 9:28it budded, and her blossom shot forth, and the clusters of it
- 9:32brought forth ripe grapes. 11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my
- 9:37hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup,
- 9:42and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
- 9:45So here this cup bearer, in his dream God spoke to him in things
- 9:50that he could understand. And don't be surprised if God
- 9:55doesn't speak to you in dreams and visions and visitations, but
- 9:59they all must line up with the Word of God.
- 10:03There is no more interpretations of God's Word.
- 10:07There's no more revelations of God's Word.
- 10:10There's nothing that needed needs to be added or taken away
- 10:14from God's Word. Anything that we have that is
- 10:17extra biblical must come and be completely, 100% congruent with
- 10:23the complete Word of God, and that is what we measure every
- 10:29single thing by. Because you can be LED astray by
- 10:32all of this occult cultic leadership.
- 10:35You can be LED astray with all of this New Age teaching if you
- 10:39give in to the mysticism and the Gnosticism and any of the isms
- 10:45that are attached to Christianity.
- 10:49And it is not profitable. Friends, we must stay within the
- 10:5466 Canon. Nothing added and nothing
- 10:58subtracted. And if you ever find somebody
- 11:00who says that it is the Bible plus anything else, run, flee,
- 11:06get away from them, for they are trying to manipulate you. 12 And
- 11:15Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it.
- 11:19The three branches are three days. 13 Yet within three days
- 11:25shall Pharaoh lift up your head and restore you to the place,
- 11:31and you shall deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand after the
- 11:35former manner, when you were his Butler.
- 11:39So here he gives them the interpretation.
- 11:41God was pleased enough to give Joseph the understanding to know
- 11:47that the branches were the days, and that all of it meant that he
- 11:50was going to go back to what he was doing prior. 14 But think on
- 11:56me, when it shall be well with you, and show kindness.
- 11:59I pray you unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and
- 12:03bring me out of this house. So just because God calls you to
- 12:07a deplorable place does not mean that God desires for you to stay
- 12:11in that place. And this is what calls for
- 12:15wisdom, friends, is to know that God has much more for us than
- 12:19just to stay in the destitute. He calls us to the palaces.
- 12:23He calls us into royalty. He calls us into places,
- 12:28friends, that he opens the doors that no man can shut, and he
- 12:31shuts the doors that no man can open.
- 12:33And it is wisdom and discernment that will tell you where you
- 12:37need to be and when you need to be there and how long you need
- 12:41to be there. And Joseph had enough
- 12:43wherewithal all in mental fortitude to know that this
- 12:47could work out for his good, that as this cupbearer went back
- 12:51into service right next to Pharaoh, that he would speak
- 12:54well about him. Let's see how it goes. 15 For
- 12:59indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews, And
- 13:04here also have I done nothing that should put me into the
- 13:07dungeon. So here he shares with this
- 13:10cupbearer how he got all the way to Egypt, and who he's connected
- 13:15to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob his father. 16 And
- 13:21when the chief Baker saw that the interpretation was good, he
- 13:25said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and behold, I had
- 13:30three white baskets on my head. 17 And in the uppermost basket
- 13:35there was all manner of baked meats for Pharaoh, and the birds
- 13:40did eat them out of the basket on my head. 18 And Joseph
- 13:45answered and said, This is the interpretation of it.
- 13:49The three baskets are three days. 19 Yet within three days
- 13:52shall Pharaoh lift up your head from off you, and shall hang you
- 13:59on a tree, and the bird shall eat your flesh from off of you.
- 14:05So here this Baker thought that the good interpretation of the
- 14:11cupbearer meant that he would get a good interpretation too.
- 14:15And he turns and he just spills the beans and he shows Joseph
- 14:20what his dream was, thinking that he would get a good
- 14:24rapport. But it did not fare that way.
- 14:28And here is a call of a true prophet, one who is not afraid
- 14:33to speak good and to speak bad. One that does not just talk
- 14:38about prosperity, prosperity, prosperity in the land, but one
- 14:43who is not afraid to share the hard things of God with people.
- 14:49That is how you know who is truly interpreting for God or
- 14:54not. 20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's
- 15:02birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants, and he
- 15:07lifted up the head of the chief Butler and of the chief Baker
- 15:11among his servants. So during this big celebration,
- 15:15he brings them out in front of everybody. 21 And he restored
- 15:22the chief Butler under his butlership again, and he gave
- 15:26the cup into Pharaoh's hand. 22 But he hung the chief Baker, as
- 15:32Joseph had interpreted to them. That is another mark of a true
- 15:36prophet, is what they say will actually come to fruition.
- 15:43And if they say something and it does not happen, you can know
- 15:46that they are a false prophet. And here you can see that in
- 15:50this celebration of Pharaoh's birthday, he brought them out
- 15:53publicly. He had learned that the coup, he
- 15:57had learned that the mutiny, he had learned that whatever kind
- 16:01of plan to take him out was somehow connected to the Baker
- 16:07and not the cupbearer. And he had to pay for this
- 16:11revelation. And here Joseph is left in
- 16:14prison. We'll end on 23.
- 16:17Yet did not the chief Butler remember Joseph?
- 16:22But he forgot him. Poor Joseph left in the prison.
- 16:27But it's all going to work out for God's good.
- 16:30It's all going to work out friends.
- 16:32And God has a plan and he knows what he's doing.
- 16:35We'll just trust him and get out of our own way, get out of our
- 16:38own understanding. And we'll actually give him the
- 16:41full access, give him the keys. Friends, He's not your copilot.
- 16:46He's not someone to stuff in the trunk and get out when
- 16:49everything goes wrong. Friends, God is the one who's
- 16:53steering at all. And we get out of our own way.
- 16:56We bow down low, we give him center stage, we give him our
- 17:00everything. We give him our next breath.
- 17:02And watch how it goes well with you two, friends.
- 17:05He might put you in the hardest places to speak the hardest
- 17:09words to people. And it will completely devastate
- 17:13them and cause them to bow down and give God due reverence and
- 17:19awe and wonder and worship. Because you said the right thing
- 17:23at the right time at the right place.
- 17:25And that is the God that we serve, the God who can do
- 17:28infinitely more and infinitely more than we could ever imagine
- 17:34we could ever think of. He's not limited friends, and
- 17:40you can't put him in a box. He is the great I am, period.
- 17:47There's none like our God. Hope you've been blessed by this
- 17:50amazing chapter in God's Word. I know I sure have.
- 17:54I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 17:57I love you. We'll see you back here
- 18:02tomorrow. God bless you.
