- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Hello and welcome to the Overclocked Remix Podcast, the best way to get overclocked remix news and new music while you are traveling to and from video game music conventions.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: This is episode number 17, which is the only prime number which is the sum of four consecutive primes.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: 2 plus 3 plus 5 plus 7.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: My name is Zach, and I spent 72 hours traveling to get to and from VGM Con this month.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: So let's do a trip report.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: For those not aware, VGM Con is a yearly video game music convention that takes place just outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: And I say convention, but honestly, it's more like a music festival with panels.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: I saw some incredible bands, I met some incredible people, a great time was had all weekend long.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: I particularly want to shout out Biggeron and the Gore Ensemble, Disco Cactus, the Super Marcado Brothers, and of course, Overclocked Remix's own, Cyril the Wolf, who, spoilers, you'll hear from later and also puts on a heck of a live show.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Our intro music this month was Fiesta Amongst the Trees by the Southwestern College Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble from Ristar.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Now, let's talk some news.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: And Bahamut was announcing a new album project covering SNES RPG's Lufia 1 and 2, known as Estolis 1 and 2, on the Super Famicom in Japan.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Then, in February of 2010, the project was put on ice until the fall.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: True to his word, the album was removed from the freezer, handed a warm mug of cocoa, and revived in October 2010.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And it was also sliced in half, which I can only assume the album liked less, focusing this time on just Lufia 2.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Bahamut also brought on Gario to co-direct.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: I was in the middle of my second semester of grad school.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Work continued in a slow and steady fashion over the next two years, and then a slower and steadier fashion over the next four, until in 2016, Gario posted to remind everyone that the project was not dead, just, you know, very asleep.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: We fast forward to January of 2017.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: I was starting my second semester as a math professor, and Gario revived the Luffy 2 album project one more time.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: And once again, progress was slow and steady until the final remix submission deadline in the summer of 2023.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Slowly and steadily, things were worked on and tweaked until October 2024, when the album was submitted to the judges panel of OCR to await the gnashing of their very hungry collective maw.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: The months passed, the seasons changed, artwork was drawn, videos were rendered, and now finally, on Saturday, April 18th, roughly 8 p.m.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: Central Daylight Time, at VGMCon 2026, the release date was revealed to the world, along with a very lovely preliminary trailer by Jose LeBronx Regan.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: The album will be out June 25th, 2026.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: 17 years in the making.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: And speaking of new stuff, let's cover the new tracks released in March of 2026.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Our news music this month was Samba del Anjos from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 by Bowler Hat and the Conservatorium Maastricht Big Band.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: This is also from the recently released album Star Fox Double Wing Damage.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Reminder to go check that out if you haven't already.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: The Voodoo Queen describes the genre as Goa and Dark Electro Industrial.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: Now I had to look up Goa, and it's apparently a sub-genre of trance originating from the Indian state of Goa.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Yep, there you have it.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: And it's a good thing that the Voodoo Queen also gave some genre description because I would have just called it Electronica Mino Words Good.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Actually what I would have called it is this is the same genre as whatever the heck G Darius is.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: And I love that soundtrack, so this was also fantastic.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Our next track was Cinnamon Soil by Rakos from Super Metroid.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: And this one is straight up DNB.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Now this is a subgenre I can actually name on my own without help.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Lion Tamer describes the track as melodically conservative and grimy, and I have to disagree with him.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: I'd say it's more gritty than grimy.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: He only got the first three letters right.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Judge PixelCeph calls out how a lot of the interpretive elements of the mix are subtractive, which is a really cool technique.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Establish a groove and then sort of take things away from it to give it your own flair.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: And that's it for the new tracks this month.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: But we have a really cool segment.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: I, for the very first time, recorded some of the podcast live with other people physically in the same room with me.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: And here it is, no edits, recorded straight from the panel one room at VGMCon, live with an audience.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Go easy on me.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: This was my first time.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Special shout out to Paradiddles Josh and Cyril the Wolf for providing me with the cables and equipment I needed to get the audio out of the soundboard and onto my laptop.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: You're a rear.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: I don't know, I was Zach Zach was like, come up here, so I did.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Let's get this party started.
- 17:22unknown: He's a radical.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Come on, Josh.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Air drone.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: Hello and welcome to the Overclocked Remix Podcast.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: I see both of my listeners here, and they've both brought like five people, which is super cool.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: Uh hi! I've never done a live podcast recording before, so this is super awesome.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: I'm going to double check one more time that I actually am recording this.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, cool.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: Uh so uh I am here with some wonderful OCR people, and we're gonna have some fun up here, and I'm gonna start by uh asking everyone at the table uh what's your OCR story?
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: What how did you get here?
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna answer first because it's my podcast and I have that privilege.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: Uh and the answer is I was looking for Final Fantasy VI MIDI's in 2004, and then I found Overclocked Remix MP3s instead.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: And uh now I'm here.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm Zach with spelled with an exclamation point.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Uh if you see Zach with an exclamation point on the internet, that is probably me.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: Uh and to my left is Hello, I am Hemophiliac.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: How are you doing today, ladies and gentlemen?
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to see all of you here.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: But yes, I've been around the community for a long time.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: I originally found the site way back in probably 2001, maybe 2002, by searching peer-to-peer software for video game music and found something called overclocked remix on a Mario RPG remix.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: I believe it was a McGov one.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: And to my right, I am Cyril the Wolf.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: Um I started you I wanted to hang on.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: I should have prepared better.
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: Back in 2003, I was finding MIDI's on AOL teen file sharing and did not know where they came from.
- 19:59SPEAKER_04: Uh, and that was looking at the staff music for Final Fantasy IX battle music got me onto VG music because I was like, I need more of these so I can open them in cakewalk and look at the staff go by.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: And then there was this weird banner ad for OCRemix.org.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: And I didn't have the technology, but around 2004, I was like, oh, I can record things poorly.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna submit.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: I'm the greatest thing ever, and was promptly rejected in 2004.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: And then since then I've kept working at it.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: And now I'm here.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: And his right.
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: I'm Paradidles Josh.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: How are you?
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: We need the proximity effect.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: My name is Paradidals Josh on behalf of Pixels and Paradidles, another one of those evil judges.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: Uh anybody remember a Newgrounds Flash video by Legendary Frog from the early 2000s?
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: Use Joe Redifer's Robo Voice OC remix.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: It was okay.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Classic.
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Classic.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: Eventually, you just gotta find out where that stuff comes from.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: End up on OCR.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: Pirate a copy of FL Studio.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Think that your farce is going to smell really great.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Send a track.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Direct rejection by Larry.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: So the question was that's the GameSact guy, right?
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Did you ever write her?
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: And indeed.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: It is, yes.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Uh alright, so let's let's get in.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Let's dive into the real important overclocked remix questions now.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Uh and so now my question for the panel is uh what is your favorite remix of Ice Cap Zone?
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: What's Ice Cap Zone?
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: I don't have a favorite remix of Ice Cap Zone because I don't like so they all blend together to me, except for I don't know the title of it.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: Because I never I'm not gonna know the title.
- 21:58SPEAKER_04: Let me look it up.
- 21:58SPEAKER_04: And then I'll give it ahead.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I got I got an answer for you.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: The Jetsons.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Ha! Uh I think that's a premix, actually.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: If in case you guys don't know, the Jetsons is actually a uh commercial release from or it's a band called the Jetsons, and they uh have a piece of music that sounds like Ice Capson.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: It is Ice Cap Zone.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: The songwriter, uh Michael Jackson songwriter who worked on Sonic 3, was in the Jetsons.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: And it's also, if you want to look that up, it's spelled weird.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: I think it's J-E-T-Z-O-N-S or Z-O-N-S, if there's any Commonwealth folks in the room.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Was that Brad Buckser?
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, Brad Buckser.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that would explain it.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, I'm gonna have to take a rein check on that and look at the list with Connor.
- 22:47SPEAKER_05: How many Ice Cap Zone remixes are there?
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Uh ooh, that's a good question.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: I how the question was how many ice cap zone remixes are?
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: And off the top of my head, I think there's nine.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: So let's only nine?
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: Let's find out.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: I'm skeptical of that.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Gotta pump those up.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Uh ice cap zone.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: There's there's well more than nine, my dear.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's gotta be so many more than two.
- 23:15SPEAKER_04: I I was scrolling for the code.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: I think maybe in a previous podcast I played nine of them, and that's where that number is coming from.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: What is it?
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: What is it?
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: 25?
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: Uh I I can't read.
- 23:27SPEAKER_04: Uh but yeah, 25 sounds right.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: Where is the number, dude?
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: I'm bad at reading websites, don't why am I here?
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: Um, but no, it was it I couldn't think of it.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: It's Snowboard and Sonic by Will Rock.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, there's uh a lot.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: Oh geez.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: There's a lot.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Uh my favorite, I like Eastern Icefield by uh Jimmy Biggs Giant Circles Hinson.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: And that's just act one.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: Do they have act two separate?
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what I was wondering.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I saw I'm looking at the the the webpage here on uh Overclock Remix, and it is separated out by track.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: There are 17.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: 17?
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, act one alone.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they count act two differently.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to find out.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: If it's the same song, it's gonna count it as just act one.
- 24:18unknown: Sonic three songs, technically not the same Sonic.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: So there's 18 Act One remixes and two Ice Capped Act Two remixes.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: So there's 20.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm wondering, okay, so uh for for the judges, what are how do you how do you tell if it's a remix of Act One or Act Two?
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: I need to know.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Listen to the source.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: All right, more overclock remix questions.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: Um so one of the things I've always loved about OCR, uh, and I'm getting ahead of myself.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: So there was a there was a some number of years where I was keeping up with OCR, but you know, I I wasn't downloading every single song one by one.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: You know, there'd be a batch of torrents released and I'd download that.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: But I always have kept up with the albums.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: I think the albums are really special.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Uh so I was wondering uh if you could wave a magic wand and have an album appear, what would it be?
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Do you have any dream album projects?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Louviya do.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Soon TM.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Uh Josh, you got one?
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: Get back to me.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I would love to see um a concerted effort to do some Mega Man ZX like album projects.
- 25:45SPEAKER_04: And I'm not the one to direct it because I don't have the the wherewithal, but I'd love to see it for the real answer, not just Luffy 2 meme.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: I think I'd have to say Saga Frontier or sorry, I take that back.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Final Fantasy Legend series.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: So one, two, and three.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: Ooh, that's a good one.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Romancing saga.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Kingito and some new some Uimatsu in there.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: I think those are fairly under-remixed games.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: Uh that would be really good.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, I would take a Resident Evil album in a heartbeat.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Ooh, also a good answer.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: You know, Resident Evil is a complete blind spot for me.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: I I played four, and that's it.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: It's all good.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: There's a there's a whole grotesque world out there.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: Uh I I think the composer uh Noryuki Iwadare is amazing.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: Um I think there are like two grandia 2 remixes on OCR and maybe one or even zero grandia 1 remixes.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: I really, really think this needs to be fixed.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: So, you know, if if anyone's looking for source material, please do some grandia.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: Or, you know, if someone wants to direct an album, like a grandia series album would be pretty amazing.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: You just gotta do it yourself.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: That's how I got into where I am right now, how the how the podcast got started.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: There was a uh 25th anniversary uh voice chat on the overclocked remix Discord, and I said, Boy, I sure do miss that OCR podcast.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Uh and Larry goes, Well, there's something you could do about that, right?
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: So here we are.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: I was trying to the website's loading so slowly.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: I was looking up how much grandia was on there.
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: I've done a grandia remix, but I have to like retool it.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't think you've submitted it, have you?
- 27:57SPEAKER_04: No, because it's got uh the frickin' vocal break from uh Lost Horizons Highlander the one in it.
- 28:05SPEAKER_04: And I don't think that's appropriate for OC remix.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Wait, okay, so now I need to know which uh which Grandia and which track.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: Uh Grandia One, Battle Three.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: Nice both versions.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, nice.
- 28:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:17SPEAKER_04: That song, that was another one that I got as a MIDI, and I just fell in love with that.
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: Hadn't played Grandia.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: It was years later that I yard my way into playing Grandia because I never had a PlayStation growing up.
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, great, great game.
- 28:30SPEAKER_04: It was like one of the three JRPGs I've ever finished.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: So an incredible soundtrack.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, Norakley don't get me started.
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: Good, good stuff.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: We'll finish that one up so we can tell you no.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 28:45SPEAKER_04: Alright, I'll do it soon after this.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: All right, another important question for the entire panel.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, what is your uh the color of your username on the OCR Discord?
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Mine is yellow.
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: Do we want to do it on three?
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: No, you're a different color.
- 29:08SPEAKER_04: You're a different color.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: I'm orange.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: For some reason I was like, we're all orange.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: It's like a red judge red.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: Judge red.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: It's hot pink.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: I think it's a little dark for hot pink.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: No, it's hot pink?
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:26unknown: I mean, it's not like bright hot pink.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: Deep pink.
- 29:29unknown: Deep pink.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Deep pink.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: Why isn't it deep purple?
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the deep purple cover band, deep pink.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: It's all female.
- 29:36SPEAKER_04: Uh-year-old.
- 29:37SPEAKER_04: I know that's a bad stereotype, but that's listen.
- 29:40SPEAKER_04: If all your maidens free.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Free cover band ideas here at the Overclocked Remix podcast.
- 29:45SPEAKER_04: For all your dad rock needs.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: So also, this is a great reminder if you're not on the Overclocked Remix Discord.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: We're very friendly.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Please, please come and say hi.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Also, you know, join the forums.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: That forums are still a thing that exists on the internet.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: I know there's uh, you know, the internet has five websites, uh, each one of which is just screenshots of the other four.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: But then there's a sixth website, and that's Overclocked Remix and the Overclocked Remix forums.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: It's the best social media there is.
- 30:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you won't have to upload your ID ever.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: No, and we might bring signatures back.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Oh maybe possibly ask Shark.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna put an old one out, but is June still boss month?
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: Dude, that's so old, I forgot about it.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: For the people, explain that reference.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Um, so like he mentioned, the form signatures used to be a thing on forums where you would go on and at the bottom of your post you'd usually have some big obnoxious image.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: And a long time ago, someone decided that June was boss month, so everyone changed their form signature to their favorite boss.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: And for some reason, I think a lot of people's signature didn't change after that.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: It just stayed June is boss month.
- 31:07SPEAKER_04: Because it's actually a pain in the butt to change your signature all the time.
- 31:10SPEAKER_04: Or it was.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: New technology exists, I'm sure, but actually, the new technologies don't have signatures.
- 31:19unknown: Can I ask a question?
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, questions are welcome.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: What you got?
- 31:22unknown: What forum software does it run off of?
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: Because I don't simple machines sold on this.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: So the question was, what forum software does it run about?
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: Nothing uh run on.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Nothing but exciting topics here at the Overclocked Remix Podcast.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't think it's PHP BB at least.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know what the forum software is.
- 31:43SPEAKER_04: If you go to the Discord, you can you can ask Dark Sword.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: It might vision.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: I I can't remember for sure, but it might be in vision.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: That was gonna be my guess too.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the the the signatures are allowed, but um they've been disabled for years for obvious reasons.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: But maybe they'll come back.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Does that mean you're gonna post more if we bring it back?
- 32:11unknown: It's envision.
- 32:12unknown: Okay.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: It's invision, apparently, for everyone who was waiting in suspense for that.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: Mel decision with the alley oop.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: Uh so there was an album released recently.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: Uh Star Fox Double Wing Damage.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: I think everyone except me sitting at the table right now did at least something for that album.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: So do we want to talk about recent recent releases?
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: That's not a bad idea.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: I only have good ideas.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: Hi, Josh.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: You you talk first.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: What wouldn't what'd you do on that album?
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: Uh well, co-arranged the boss tracks from Star Fox 64 and provided drums for one of Zaliv's insane Psy Trance metal mashups uh for Fortuna from the original.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: I listened to it.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, me too.
- 33:12SPEAKER_04: It was great.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so you might want to do for it.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Um I arranged the uh map select screen from Star Fox one, and I combined it with the character select screen from Star Fox two, and it's a uh 80s style synth wave track.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: I think it's actually the newest mix post on OCR, actually.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: Uh I think it is, actually, yeah.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Let's wing it.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: I can double check that live.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: It's called Wingmen.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Zach, will you be my wingman?
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: No problem.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: No one no one else wants to to no one wants to plug more about the album?
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: Uh I like I listened to it.
- 34:01SPEAKER_04: It was great.
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: Listen to it.
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: It's great.
- 34:03SPEAKER_04: It's got a lot of good tracks from the start.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: I can tell a couple stories about it.
- 34:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's what we did.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm fishing for.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: So album projects have been a thing for a long time, ever since 2003, with uh the first one, which was Relics of the Chozo, Super Metroid.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: And back in that day, um, after the second one was released, the second album project, which was Congo Concert, the Donkey Kong Country album, everyone got excited about I'm gonna do my own album project.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start my own.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna do Lufia 2, I'm gonna do Grandia, I'm gonna, you know, whatever, whatever game they wanted to do.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: And everyone was jumping on this bandwagon.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Someone said, I'm gonna do Star Fox album, and they started getting people together, starting to plan a Star Fox album back then in about 2004-2005.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: Well, that one didn't come to see the day of light.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, a couple of the remixes from that original project ended up getting submitted to the site and posted.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Some of some of Blinds, for example, were posted.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Um unfortunately, that album fell apart.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: Years later, in the mid to late 2010s, I did hear that another group of people started formulating a Star Fox album series again, and the same unfortunate fate happened to this one, and it it fell apart and disappeared until uh let's see, three or four years ago after the conclusion of the FF8 album.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, we were pressuring Dark Flame Wolf, like, hey, what album do you want to do next?
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: We should do Star Fox.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: And so we kind of pressured Dark Flame Wolf into picking up Star Fox again, and sure enough, this time it was successful because Dark Flame Wolf is amazing and is a fantastic album director.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: And here we are now.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: We have finally released a Star Fox series album to the public, and we're so happy it's finally here.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: I think the uh the Final Fantasy VIII album has a similar story, right?
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Like I remember in the 2000s, sometimes people were planning a Final Fantasy VIII album, uh, and then it came out what two years ago.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was roughly along that timeline.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: It it did get started up in the late 2010s as well, and that did fall apart.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: I know that Larry and DJ Pretzel did go to Dark Flame Wolf specifically and said, Hey, would you be interested in picking up this project and finishing it off?
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: And they said yes, and again, it is now the largest album on OCR with 88 tracks spanning five discs.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: Yes, that was massive.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, there's a question from the audience.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: What you got?
- 36:36unknown: Is there ever a point where it's like maybe it's too big?
- 36:39SPEAKER_06: Like it's like in my I say that as like a hypothetical, right?
- 36:44SPEAKER_06: Because obviously it's like it's all like music is great, and more music is assumably better.
- 36:49SPEAKER_06: But like from a perspective of someone being able to digest that amount of music, and it is there like I don't know, maybe I don't know.
- 36:59SPEAKER_06: What do you think?
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: So so to record this for posterity, the question from the audience was is there ever a point where it's too big and then several people giggled?
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Um, but now I will I will say as a listener, no, the bigger the better.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: I you know, I want them big.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I'll I'll also ask all the other panelists.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: I think ultimately that's gonna be up to the album director in terms of how much of a project they're willing to undertake.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: Um because behind every track is a is an or is a remixer who's putting an arrangement together.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: Um sometimes several remixes from one arranger, sometimes one arranger helping with several remixes.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Um but that's a lot of cats to herd.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: So scope creep can be very real.
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: I um I just look at it in terms of cohesion.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: Um I because the risk I find you run with a big album like Final Fantasy VIII is that it kind of just ends up being a compilation of a whole bunch of tracks, with not the only through line being this this from the same game, which I guess some people would argue that's enough, but we have the OST if that's all we want, uh, in some capacity.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: But the nice thing about like FF8 is each disc represents kind of like an emotional or like a feeling.
- 38:25SPEAKER_04: So it over those five discs, it's actually got cohesion within it and really keeps you engaged versus that's a good approach for something that reaches size or right.
- 38:36SPEAKER_04: So otherwise, there's also like the Final Fantasy V like series of E peak albums that Dark Sword has run.
- 38:42SPEAKER_04: That's like an example of like there's no one coming out kind of soon.
- 38:46unknown: TM.
- 38:47SPEAKER_04: TM TM TM TM TM TM.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was gonna say the the Final Fantasy VIII album in particular.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: I yeah, on some of the longer OCR albums, there's definitely album fatigue.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Uh like I don't think I've ever listened to all the way through the um the tales of album from I don't know.
- 39:07SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say Maveric Rising, and I love Megaman X music.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: I've never seen it.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Maverick Rising also fairly long.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure I've listened to all of it at some point, but I've never listened to all of it like as an album, you know.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: Um uh but yeah, I I thought the approach uh for Final Fantasy VIII and um Star Fox does this too of each disc has sort of like a different focus uh that really reduces the album fatigue.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: You can be like, oh yeah, I want to listen to disc three.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: That's the hard rock disc.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know if it is actually disc three, I can't remember, but I don't either.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: I have to say yes to the question, the original question about yes, it it can be too long without the focus of an overlying theme or something to tie it all together, as everyone has said.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: So um I I I am in the strong camp of uh quality over quantity, you know, covering every single song, that's cool, but let's make it good though.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: If every single song is amazing, heck yes.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: But if not everything is is at that level, you know, there's gonna be some fatigue.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: I I think the example I always come back to in my head is uh who here loves Hideki Naganuma?
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, come on, people.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Jet Set Radio.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: Uh but also Sonic Rush, which like is an amazing soundtrack.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: All of the level themes are incredible because Hideki Naganuma is uh an incarnation of the god of rhythm, I'm fairly sure.
- 40:39SPEAKER_02: Um but like in between the story stages, there's like this super generic sum like I don't it wasn't Hideki Naganuma, and I don't think they're actually credited, but you know, some some person at Sega wrote the most generic like story cutscene music you could possibly imagine.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Uh if there's ever a Sonic Rush album, I don't want that music covered.
- 41:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, that's that's fair.
- 41:06SPEAKER_04: I mean like Lufia in progress.
- 41:11SPEAKER_04: I think they were considering adding some of the tracks from the DS game, but they did they uh no.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: I didn't even know there was a DS game.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's not good.
- 41:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:22SPEAKER_04: Anyone want to play the Lufia DS game with me, guys?
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: Anyone?
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: No.
- 41:28SPEAKER_04: They see nobody said I want it to be on the record.
- 41:31SPEAKER_04: No one wanted it.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: Hey Zach, I have a question.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Ask.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: What's this?
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, right.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: Uh so uh I've just all right, so there's a stuffed cat on the table.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: Uh for those of you who have listened to the podcast before, again, I think both my listeners are here.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Uh sometimes my cat Olivia wanders in and uh meows uh while I'm recording, and I'm lazy, so I'm not about to like do another take.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: Why would I do that?
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: Uh Olivia couldn't make it today because she's a cat and I'm a thousand miles from home.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: Uh so I did bring a representation of Olivia.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: Um, this is a stuffed animal that my wife cleverly calls fake Olivia.
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: Perfect.
- 42:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: My contribution is complete.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Hey Hemo, I have a question for you.
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: And for the rest of the table.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: Uh and I I mean this question in two different ways.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: What was your first OCR album, uh, both as a listener and as someone who contributed in some fashion?
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: All right, I guess we're starting with me then.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: All right, yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: Uh my first album or album as a listener was Relics of the Chozo, it was the very first album.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: Uh, and then the second album was Conga Concert.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: And yes, I contributed to that one way back in the day in 2003 and 2004.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: Um, I arranged the map screen from Donkey Kong Country, and I also made the album art for that one.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: It's good album art.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: I'll answer the question next.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: I haven't contributed to an album other than being a hype man.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Uh but my first album as listeners.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, so back in the day before the internet was wirelessly beamed into our brains, uh, there's this thing called dial up.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: So um back in the day, like I was very picky and choosy about what I downloaded from Overclocked Remix because uh it would take 20 minutes to download a three minute song.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: Uh, and the very first time I thought, oh, it's gonna be worth it to actually download an entire album and like do it overnight so that you know my mom doesn't pick up the phone or anything uh is is gonna be uh Sonic 2 Hedgehog Heaven uh because Sonic 2 is uh one of my favorite games of all time and uh yeah that was a great album I really I'm glad I spent uh an entire overnight downloading that over dial up that was the third album third album everything um that's that's insane um the dial up thing that's that's why I only did MIDI's for until I didn't have dial up uh but uh my first album as a listener was uh chrono trigger uh symphonic just because chrono trigger soundtrack rocks and I wanted to listen to that and my first album as a contributor was the Final Fantasy IV uh Echoes of late redemption stuff I should have looked it up I can't remember now I I'm all over the place on that album that's when anytime I'm in an album I can't just contribute one song I have to like be in a thousand tunes it's it's a problem that's why I can't contribute otherwise I'll get sucked in admitting you have the problem is the first step toward a solution uh my first album was Final Fantasy 7 Voices of the Live Stream It's a good one yeah absolutely fantastic for four four discs um obviously that's a little more chronologically space for the game I was so glad that when that album came out I was in college and I could use uh the internet at college to download the whole thing yeah incredible I was in high school was lucky to not have dial up anymore that that got me through many a marching band bus ride um then we time skip and my first album contribution was on TimeShift the OCR 25th anniversary record that can't be your first contribution up to an album that can't be it is wow okay technically technically our Star Fox track was finished first but TimeShift released first it did yeah that's true all right so uh I have a little game for people to play uh so we've been talking about albums this whole time because uh I laid a devious trap uh so uh I I know all of you are experts on all the numbered tracks from OCR um but I was wondering uh if we could play a little guessing game I'm gonna play some uh tracks from five different tracks from five different albums and uh I'm going to award points if you can name the album that it's from albumslash game I guess uh who did the track wait hang on I wrote these down what else was I gonna give away points for I should just like I wrote a paragraph for myself and I'm up here winging it and I don't why would I do this?
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: It's the thought that counts.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: It's because you're having fun.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: I am having fun.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: I I mean I can just sit in front of a microphone all day.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: Alright title of the track game it's from remixer uh and uh if you happen to know what the original track was like I'm not gonna I'm not going to say you have to know the track title uh but you know like if you can at least tell me describe in the game the context in which you'd hear this track.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: Some of these will be very easy some of these will not be so easy.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna play a snippet and if you think you know any of the answers buzz in with your name and if no one knows it I'm gonna throw it to the audience.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Does it sound good to everyone?
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah preheat the oven stick to it coach let's let's do it no one look at my laptop screen because that's where the spoilers live okay we'll look at the beautiful audience all right yes you are all beautiful out there here's a keep easy one too is the canoe relief line you're all wonderful uh breath you're breathtaking your breathtaking you get a beat well it's it's from Sanic all right what you got uh The Sound of Speed is the album correct uh is that Housey uh no it's not I guess I think that's all I got you don't know the level come on you gotta know the level uh I'm I cannot tell you how bad I am at titles I don't remember my sonic two levels yeah unless it's oh this is Sonic one oh jeez unless it's Emerald uh final zone or final zone I don't know it is final zone oh what I stumbled into that like a genius man all right okay I'm throwing it to the audience anyone know the remixer it's will rock oh guitar yeah it was I it was like dang we got got comment from the audience you really need the guitar to tell yeah he wasn't really will rock in there he was more will sound designing I'm here a haul yeah one second Will gave me a microphone Zach why did you ask me up here I can't help myself I hear my voice echoing and the worst stupid things come into my head.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: For the record I didn't actually ask anyone to be here I was just like hey who's willing to be here and then I told people to get on stage so I got it kind of my fault all right do I now it might have been Colorado do you want to come up here up here and say hi no the answer from the audience was no all right here's here's number two I think this one's also an easy one because I listen to this album a lot so I want everyone to know that before this Hemo was like oh I'm gonna win this guessing game this is gonna be easy and so far it's gone pretty good.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: Alright what you got?
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: This is from the Final Fantasy VI album yes and that is by Prophetic no oh I don't know who it's by either Prophetic would have been my guess anyone in the audience now was it expert novice nope not expert novice I got nothing but it's Narsh right now it's Narsh yeah uh it's Mustin oh that explains why that base was so big at the convention yeah Mustin's here not in the room but like at at in you know Minnesota I got God I thought that was Super Mario RPG Oh snap I can hear it oh dang all right all right yeah yeah yeah way off yeah that's all right this is the one that I think of as the difficult one so let's see if if anyone these are all difficult there's over 5,000 remixes on OCR and you were like I know all of them no I never said that again didn't ask exactly I said I'm gonna win I'm I'm very bossy actually anyone at least know the game that it's from I guess if this was the hard one guess yeah yeah give it a guess what you got is this a seventh saga?
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: Nah that's a good guess though I like that guess you want to just guess no I guess I I can give a hint it's uh Darkflame Wolf directed this one and it was uh I think the first album they've got Arcadia yeah skies so uh for many many years on audience gets the point audience gets a point so for for uh for many many years uh on IRC and forums I was vice of Arcadia I still consider skies of arcadia to be one of the greatest games they ever made so I I had to throw skys track in there I did not play that I should play it's such a good game in in my mind skies of arcadia is like the the pinnacle of that era of JRPG it sort of closed it out honestly like phone exploration like feeling of adventure right like it had a very adventurous feeling of adventure says Oceans Andrew sitting in the audience uh that's also one of the things I love about Grandia uh Grandia 1 in particular like I I've discovered over the years especially uh I I think I only first articulated this when I played Final Fantasy XIII but I I don't I need the illusion of exploration in a game I really need that and um don't get me wrong I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII but it was a walking in a straight line simulator.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah well then eventually you get to Grand Pulse and it's not as much uh so that was the main theme of Skies of Arcadia specifically for uh the the the staff role at the end of the game uh and that was by Juke uh who I don't think has any numbered remixes but uh made a really should have submitted this one all right here we go excuse me uh I think someone guessed this name earlier but zero six seconds this is Helsing no I could I could also be wrong about someone saying it earlier oh we've got a guest from the audience what you got I don't know if it's called this but it's it's from is it from Milky Way Wishes it is from Milky Way Wishes it called the best in two minutes and 16 seconds of your life you are off by two seconds this is give him a round of applause guys whoa now who done it who is the artist oh uh Protodome no one gets protodome wait oh no you said prophetic they're almost they're they start with the same three letters they're basically the same person that's basically not even close no not close at all not uh yeah uh all right I got I got one more to guess.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: This one I think may also be easy.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: Uh I I will give a hint uh getting the name of the remixer correct might be difficult.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah this is from Portrait of a Plumber.
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: It is uh this is the select screen from Mario 64 but I don't remember the artists it's uh well before I say anyone else want to say the context in the game in which you might hear this?
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: I looked so I can't say uh cheater we've got a cheater I I you're not a high road yeah I'm not sure I I listen it's right here and I look at Cyril recused himself like a professional oh inside the castle walls inside the castle walls dang uh and the artist on that it uh uh changes their name every album uh but discrediting is Sir Jardonius Sergey Sergey uh also known as UV Sergey and Damashi yeah Jay Damashi and like three other names geez does you do your beater never mind hell's a joke for like two people who don't listen to this podcast uh we got more time than I thought so I'm gonna I'm gonna do a bonus uh God you could have to hide the screen for zero oh that's a good idea Wow it's just like I'm at work with my cat getting in my damn way all right uh we'll do one bonus track and then and then we'll wrap it up okay it's a recent one emo four seconds of that is this from Final Fantasy VIII yeah whoa um under her control I remember this I evaluated this one so I remember it but that had 88 tracks remembering every single artist is hard yeah that yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Andrew's like you only had to remember one for this track how cardin is it trait nah violent not trait yes uh it is violent Colorado takes it what's the source oh so uh the spy uh if we had waited for the uh for the the vocals to come in uh yeah well that's what I was waiting for but you know Hemo had to show off and be like Hemo Alright uh so I'm gonna uh again more time than I thought uh so I think we've got 10 minutes so uh any oh I was about to ask for any audience questions what are some upcoming albums that you're excited for some upcoming albums that I'm excited for all of you uh all right we'll start with Chris don't start with me we'll start with Josh well clearly Luffy too is coming soon TM right so that's one um no uh T Sorry has a moon themed EP oh yeah uh originally that was gonna be scheduled for the Artemis launch or return but I think there's another thing coming up so hopefully we can get all that stuff to the moon yeah ducks out of space um yes from the Disney afternoon to the moon uh thank you Brent I don't yeah thanks Brennel Floss I'm uh I'm I'm budget Brent Floss so if you need me for parties I am two dollars and you have to feed me um Nufia 2 I um I I know it kind of for various reasons what not I is but the exit stage left album I was like really looking forward to um but that may that's like on indefinite pause so we'll see what happens with that.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: Can you tell uh the fine people about what that album is beyond the title?
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah so that's that's an album of end credits themes.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: So you know every every game's got a strong ending and that might give you feels about it so this is an album for those feels yeah and according to Brentel Foss the moon from DuckTales should be an ending credits theme.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: It does sound like an ending credits theme.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: I agree with that anyway uh Hemo you got an upcoming album you're looking forward to now that I've thought about it um yeah the moon album is going to be a fun one and then um exit stage left is also a really good answer.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: I I really hope either somebody we can we can get that to be picked up by somebody else or um you know the director can come back.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: Also um another one that's just starting up is the hot and cold idea.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_00: Oh yes I really like the concept behind it and there's a lot of interest in it and I have to say that the um time chosen for it to be started up is also um fortuitous because there's a lot of people joining in so I think there's going to be a lot of fun with that one.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah you took the words out of my mouth I was gonna say the the hot and cold album for one thing I just love a good ice level track.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: There's this not OCR affiliated but there's this thing on the internet many moons ago called uh the obligatory ice level day I don't know if anyone remembers it but you know community ice level remix album um and yeah I I love ice levels uh and hearing like hot takes on ice levels is is gonna be a lot of fun yeah the album for the audience if if you're not if you're interested it's uh instead of so you would do low-key lava or hot fire level like lo-fi hip hop fire level or cold you'll do like metal cold cold metal hot instruments not like desert oh hot yeah hot instruments oh yeah yeah so so if you want to do like a stereotypical instruments or bicep chill out the hot track chill out the hot track heat up the cool track yeah but stick it in the microwave hopefully the middle's not frozen still yeah yeah there there is the the mixer tap option turn on both taps on the faucet it comes out lukewarm which uh is a terrible pitch for the album but uh you know you can blend hot and cold that's it for the bonus the bonus uh the bonus album the lukewarm tracks yeah yeah the the the purple disc the burned ice if you will burnt ice frozen flame frozen flame galaxy right there uh coming to my set at 10 p.m I mean I I think I think if there's enough interest in some fusion stuff there will be a third disc on that record I think there's always interest in fusion stuff I think I even suggested it's live Mel Decision calls dibs on frozen flame Mel has made the decision That's what I'm talking about So I don't know where that came from sleep deprivation probably uh so uh actually Exit Stage love reminded me I have I've I've had this nuts idea for an album for years now so um pitch your idea yeah I'm gonna pitch my idea and everyone in the room is going to judge me this live this is gonna be great uh so uh all right I'm trying to figure out a way to phrase this that doesn't make me sound like I'm insane uh so I'm kind of a classical music snob sometimes uh and uh I like the Mass as a musical form like the the Catholic Mass specifically the Requiem uh I've always thought a full Requiem with game over themes would be a really fun album okay okay okay how many parts are in the Requiem Mass?
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_00: I don't remember I believe it's six is there only gonna be six tracks then?
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_02: No six series six discs six discs six discs with six songs by six artists I I figure a couple different people can each do a Curier you know uh so we've only got five minutes left so I wanted to do the oh there's another question from there.
- 1:05:38unknown: Or five?
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: What's we're on five I pitch it if if we here I'll I I think I can expand on that if if you were to pick a game series to fight against another game series then the next GSM, which two game series would you go for?
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: Oh don't start with me uh give me just a second
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_05: I thought we already have a pitch for GSM.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_05: We do right after BGMCon, but there will be another one after, probably.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_05: If we convince Dark.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_05: GSM 6, what do you want?
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_04: GSM 6, what do I want?
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_04: Grand Theft Auto and Forza.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_03: That is oddly specific.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_00: Is the track title Get Out of the Car?
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: Huh?
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_02: Is the track title Get Out of the Car.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_02: Uh I think mine would be uh Final Fantasy Dragon Quest.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_02: Just because we don't have enough Dragon Dragon Quest music.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_02: Anything to get more Dragon Quest music out there.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_03: Uh I've got let's do like a Konami send up.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_03: Metal Gear versus Contra.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_03: Ooh, I like it.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_04: And that and that don't forget the NES Metal Gears.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_04: Can't forget those.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: And MSX.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_02: And MSX?
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_03: Good old Snake's Revenge.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_03: Because that definitely has some memorable tracks.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, I don't know.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_04: I don't know anything about Metal Gear, my dude.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_04: I just know that games exist.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, I also know.
- 1:07:10unknown: That's fair.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_00: I think I'd have to go with the one that I mentioned earlier, which was the Final Fantasy Legends series, so we got one, two, and three versus romancing saga.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_02: That'd be a good one.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: It'd be a saga.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_02: Alright, before this is over, I want to do the courteous podcast host thing and ask the panel if they have anything they want to plug, like, for example, a concert that might be happening at VGMCon.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: Or, you know, something else.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_02: So does anyone here sitting here have something?
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_04: Um, so at 10 p.m.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_04: tonight at the hero stage, uh, we'll be performing.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_04: And it's gonna be an awesome set.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_04: I've got Teradiddle Josh on drums.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_04: I got Colorado Weeks coming up to guest on some tra uh some some vokes so I can rest my poor little my poor widow voice.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_04: Um, and I got Tuck on Keys and Ian Cowell on guitar, so it's been awesome, thanks to them.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_04: I wanted to put it official in this podcast.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_04: Uh also for the people here, and so you can find it on Blue Sky and retweet it and post it everywhere.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_04: I am streaming it.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_04: Uh Jarel Arrow uh was gracious enough to offer his services and it is going to be streamed for people who can't make it, or for people who just don't want to be in a crowd anymore, which is also fair.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_04: I totally get it.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_02: Will that stream be uh saved and archived anywhere for the people who will be listening to this from home in like two weeks?
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_04: Um it'll be uh probably up on my YouTube channel, depending on I don't know when it'll be up, but um the they're be recording multi-tracks, so whatever video I have, I'm gonna mix it up.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_04: I'm also just yeah, so it'll be good.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_02: If I remember, I will drop a link to your YouTube channel in the podcast description.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_03: Come through the YouTube, you won't.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_04: So the thing is, and I would like to thank the two listeners of this podcast for taking the time to hear me.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_04: Thank you, both of you.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, appreciate it.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_00: We also have the overclocked remix retrospective panel, which is later this evening at 7.30, and it's in the next room over.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have Josh, myself, Arrow, and Mr.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_00: Ocean's Andrew, and one other special guest who we did not know was coming but is here.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_00: His name is Joe Zija, Expert Novice will also be here.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_03: Heck yeah.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_02: Alright, we've got less than one minute, so I'm just gonna wrap this thing up.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_02: Uh thank you uh both listeners for coming.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: Thank you for bringing five of your friends.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_02: Uh, and uh hopefully see you next time.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_04: Thanks for having us.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_04: Peace out.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: And there it was! The first ever live segment of this iteration of the podcast.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: Once again, shout out to my guests Hemophiliac, Paradiddles Josh, and Cyril the Wolf.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_02: But now VGMCon is over, and it's back to business as usual.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_02: And, as usual, if you enjoyed the podcast and want to interact with any of the fine people you heard talking, join us on the forums or on the OCR Discord.

- 1:11:13SPEAKER_02: The podcast promise is that any money we make beyond podcast expenses will be donated back to OCR itself.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_02: That hasn't happened yet, but a man can dream.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_02: Our interstitial music this month was Spanish Jitters from Donkey Kong Country 3 by David Wise and Robin Beenland, and for those of you who aren't aware of how big that is, those are composers who worked on the original Donkey Kong Country music.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Also, with contributions from Level 99, Daniel Rosenquist, Harmony, Busta Tunes, Zyco, Jiggin John T, Oceans Andrew, Prophetic Music, and Diggy Diss.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_02: As usual, our outro music was See You Next Time, Water by Darksword, and I do hope I see people again next time at VGMCon 2027.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_02: I'm going to try to go, if I can, and I look forward to meeting both Overclocked Remix folks that I've met before and new friends that I haven't made yet.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_02: But now we're going to play you out by rolling a six-sided die to randomly select a song from the main page of OCRemix.org.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: So I've got my die, let me do a little scrolling here.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_02: It's a number one, so that's I'm the best! by Ridiculously Garrett from Mario Kart 64.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_02: Alrighty, folks.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_02: See you next time.
