Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome into our rookie mini camp preview for 2026.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Not nearly the same excitement surrounding this rookie mini camp that there was last year, obviously the Jaguars traded up last year for Travis Hunter and fans were absolutely clamoring to see Travis Hunter and fans were also permitted to attend one of those rookie mini camps.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: this year only one rookie mini camp is open to the media.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: The rest of it is shut off to the media.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: I believe there's three practices, three days of camp and one day of media.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: That will be tomorrow, May 9th, practice is around 130 to 230.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a short abbreviated practice.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be, you know, as far as football practice goes.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: This is about as far away from actual footballers you can get.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's the very beginning here of practice for these rookies and undrafted for agent rookies and there will be some,
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Young players as well that get invited to rookie mini camp and they're probably out there that aren't rookies, but you know, maybe like second year, etc.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, far away from football, real football, like real far away from training camp, right?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like this isn't one of those things where you can really get an idea about physicality usually, about how the team is really executing anything like
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: It is still practice, and yeah, we talked about practice.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: People get excited about that, so obviously we have to preview it.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk about the things you don't want to see.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: things that would be putting up red flags, et cetera, here on the show today, and you know, kind of what you do want to see.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: So really appreciate y'all being here.

- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Shred on wearing too.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Genjak.com.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you can also hit that high button helps out a ton.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: Thank y'all so much for the support on the channel means the world to me.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: So the number one
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: is avoid the eye word and we'll go ahead and set injuries, avoid injuries.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: That is the worst thing because it just puts you behind the April as a rookie, especially like you're trying to make a roster, you're trying to make an impact.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: We saw the Jaguar's rookie class dealt with a lot of injuries last year and it wasn't in rookie mini camp, but you had Jalen McCloud go down before the season, you had Caleb Ransaw go down before the season, Travis Hunter got injured during the season, why am I
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: It just kind of stinks when that happens and, you know, going back like early in May, we've seen Jalen Ramsey get injured.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen Dante Fowler get injured.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a history of that here and I'm not trying to put that on the organization or anything like that and it's completely different organization than it was in the past.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: But same organization for the most part is last year.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: So avoid the eye word at all costs.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: that's what it is.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's the name of the game.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: From a coaching standpoint, you want to see these guys working their tails off, both physically and mentally.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: You want to see these guys coming in and shape in good shape.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: And they're not going to be in training camp shape right now, but as long as they're in good shape for this setting, you want to see them working in the classroom on the field and in the weight room at a level that
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: The Jack Wars are very intentional with the players they bring into the building, with the people that they bring into the building.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: So all of these guys for the most part are veteran college players, you know, 23 years old plus.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: who have been around the block, who they expect to come in and be professionals.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, you want, as it from a coaching standpoint, you want these guys to feel like that they're picking things up, they're working hard.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like overly taxing to them.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: And so, that's what I think Liam Cohen will be looking for.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll hear from him.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: So we can kind of get a vibe from him on.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: on how he thinks it's going Saturday and I will not be there mention that earlier today I won't be there on Saturday as my mom's birthday so I'm gonna be hanging out with her.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Family first for me on that one, but we'll be monitoring and paying attention to any reports coming out and if there's anything big, we'll obviously share that information with you You don't want any of the draft picks to look like they don't belong physically Mentally attitude wise from a skill set standpoint anything like that like
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: If any of these, because you want your draft picks to make the team, which when you have 10 draft picks on this roster, it's going to be difficult for them to make the team, but you want them to make the team, because you drafted them for a reason.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: You used a draft pick on this player for a reason, so yeah, you want these guys to compete to make their roster, note out about it, but like,
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want your 6 round pick, wider receiver to look like you just doesn't belong, or 7 round pick, wider receiver to look like you just doesn't belong, but you don't want somebody to look like they can't run, right?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: If you're at a skill position corner, wider receiver,
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want them to look like they can't run, because that is a big issue.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: And we have seen this happen before where a draft pick goes out there and you can immediately tell, it's not gonna work out.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: The defense event, who the Jaguar's drafted a few years back who they were converting to fullback, it was immediate.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: You could tell that probably was going to be an issue.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: So you just want to avoid that from all your draft picks.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: You want those draft picks to look like they belong on an NFL field.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: I would be surprised if the Jaguar's drafted anybody this year that doesn't look like they belong because they're two seven thrown picks or was it three seven thrown picks.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: But the Edge player out of Zactor, free out of Washington, great athlete, right?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: The linebacker they drafted out of Middle Tennessee State Parker Hughes, great athlete.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: The one that'll be really interesting to see, I think, is CJ Williams, which, again, I won't be out there, but I'll be monitoring him throughout the off season when I am out there.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: because not like a super athlete, not like super productive, everybody is slamming him like he's not even on the consensus board.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's like in the 600's, whatever.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll be one that I'm interested to see how he looks out there.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought on tape, he looked like a pro route runner, solid hands, all that stuff and like decent size.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he'll be fine.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: As far as like not standing out in a bad way.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: But you also want to see does anybody look like they are a step ahead, like they are kind of in a league of their own out there because that's a good sign.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a end all be all type sign because you got to look like that when you're actually going up against the rest of the team when the veterans get in here.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: and are actually playing with you on the field, right?
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: But it's a good sign nonetheless.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like if Nate Borkerture goes out there, it looks like he is a bigger, more physical athlete than everybody else.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's a very good sign.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good thing.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: You could say the same thing about Josh Cameron, who should look
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Physically imposing out there at 220 pounds as a wide receiver or like if Parker here's just looks like he's absolutely flying around which he probably should So yeah, those are kind of the things you're looking for it's more if anybody stands out in a negative way That's a really bad sign, but if somebody stands out positive that's that's a good sign It's just not as indicative of how things will go moving forward, right?
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because you got to see them do that against the vets
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: also be looking to hear if any of the undrafted free agents kind of look the part looking impressive.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: The guys that I was really impressed by that they were able to land as undrafted free agents.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Jamari Taylor, the running back out of Virginia, they really like I really liked him.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had a pretty complete skill set he just didn't run very fast.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Marshall, same thing, complete skill set just didn't run very fast and he is a little bit of a shorter corner but I think he has adequate length and
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: just plays the game at a high level and Joey Agalar, the quarterback at a Tennessee.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: But if any of these guys that are on draft of free agents kind of show out, then you start thinking about, okay, do they have a chance of competing for a roster spot?
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe beating out a rookie, et cetera, a rookie draft pick or a veteran?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the preview.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not a whole lot to glean from these rookie mini camps outside of what we talked about here.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: But I wish I was gonna be out there, but it's just one of those things where family comes first in this situation.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll be out there for everything else.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: This offseason for sure.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in, supporting the channel.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoyed the content, please like and subscribe.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all have a good one.
