"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." — Hebrews 12:11

God is remarkably honest in His Word. Verse 11 does not ask us to put on a fake smile or pretend that suffering doesn't hurt. It plainly acknowledges reality: "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful." God does not ask us to pretend the pain isn't real. But pain without purpose breeds bitterness, while pain with a Gospel purpose produces a future…
