Transcript
- 0:03SPEAKER_03: Well, hey everybody, welcome to yet another exciting episode of the Steve and Jeff Show.
- 0:08SPEAKER_03: I'm Steve.
- 0:09SPEAKER_03: And I'm Jeff.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: How's it going, Steve?
- 0:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, Jeff, Jeff, it is, you know, things just keep getting better.
- 0:14SPEAKER_03: And you know, I know I say that every show, but Jeff, things really do keep getting better.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: I mentioned in the last show that I was I'd been down in Florida, you know, doing some outreach in this worldwide campaign.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: I talked a lot about you know Tampa with the cigar roller and stuff.
- 0:27SPEAKER_03: And we're gonna try to get her on the show, but she really she said some pretty nasty things to me, but but I digressed.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: But I forgot to tell you the great stuff that happened in Miami.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: I was in Miami also.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: And you know, Jeff, this show we really try to serve all communities.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: We want to, we are inclusive, we want to serve everyone.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: And you know, Jeff, I happened to have a really good experience with with the Jewish community in Miami.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: And I I gotta tell you, in fact, I had a little meeting down there with a a rabbi down there who's he's he's a rabbi, but he he writes for uh Audio Mall magazine, which I was a little confused because I think in French that means bad sound, but but he was in French, so maybe I thought it was okay.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: So it's Rabbi uh Shimel Stuzim, and uh he actually think I know his son Stuop Stoop Stoop Stuzim, yeah.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: He I waited, I think didn't we go to high school with him?
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: I mean he was I think so.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: I think he was a real screw up, but anyway, but I grasped anyway.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: But he uh yeah, anyway, this rabbi uh stuzum.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: You know, he he said that he had listened to several of our episodes, and he said that our comedy was Nish Vermeer.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: And I thought, oh man, he because you remember that professor from Sarah Silverman College, the professor uh shrimpdick, you know, who uh the bum who stiffed us on that show, but he yeah, you know, he had said that we were comedy Estrano.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, I think Nish Vermeer is even better than Estrano.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: I think Nishvermir means I think that means like night joy, night entertainment, evening an evening show.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: And Jeff, that's exactly what we've got.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: I was so happy to hear that.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: It's amazing, you know.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: It's funny, Steve, because I was actually in Florida the week before.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: I was in Key West with my family and been doing a doing a lot of traveling.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: And you know, now that we're famous, uh while you were there, I gotta ask, did you did you write standing up and drink rum?
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, because of Key West.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, what else are you gonna do there, right?
- 2:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely, yes.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: I was I was standing up, you know, just to make sure that I didn't expose any of my Hemingway.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: But I digress, go ahead.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: Don't you were in Key West, yeah, right.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: Well, I was in Key West, and you know, it was the first time where I've been on on the road traveling where I felt like, you know, I was a little anxious because here we are now, superstars.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: Right, exactly.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: When you go on uh on the road, when you fly, when you take a train or whatever, there's always a risk.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: And I it was the first time where you know I got on the plane, I said to myself, you know, if something happened, uh million literally I would be affecting millions of lives of people who have watched our show.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: And I thought, absolutely, you know, it it I have such a responsibility now as a celebrity to keep myself alive.
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: Makes you want to take out that travel insurance.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: You know, they used to have those little machines in the airports, but you know, now you just kind of have to, I don't know, do it online or something.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: But it makes you kind of want to take that out.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: And and Jeff, you know, you know, I tell you great minds, great minds, because I am glad that you mentioned air travel because Jeff, you know who's on the other side of that of that glass?
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Let me tap.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: My dad?
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Is my dad on the show yet?
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: You know, we're still looking for him.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: Damn, you know, we I know he's traveling, I know he's on the road, or we maybe we had enough garbage as part of the yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: You know, we had a lead, we had a lead, but it turned out to be, I don't know, some ex-lawyer, you know, I damn it in South Carolina, you know, but it wasn't him anyway.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: But it's somebody else as good, I'm sure.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, he he might be available too, but but I digress.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: But our guest today, right, the other side of that glass, is a gentleman who holds the Guinness Book of World Records record.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: Is that right?
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: Guinness Book of World Records record.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: That sounds sounds good, yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: But you know what I mean.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: He holds the record for surviving the most plane crashes.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: Oh wow, and his name is his name is Bob Davis.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Bob, welcome to the studio.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Hey, hey, Steve, Jeff, how are you?
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Good to be here.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Hey, Bob, good to finally meet you guys.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: You know, see you put the uh voices to those world famous faces.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: Now I gotta ask, Bob, was your your flight here was okay, wasn't it?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, I walked.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I walked.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, that's good.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: It wasn't very far.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, it was like less than three miles.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: If it's less than three miles, I walk.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: You know, it it really is kind of a waste of fuel to take a plane that distance, I think.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, really.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: Now, Bob, is it uh should I call you Bob?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: What do you go by?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Well, uh, my name is Bob.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: That's what uh you know, it's not Robert, it's actually Bob.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, everybody everybody just started calling me Crash, you know.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Oh Crash Davis.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Crash Davis, yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Crash Davis, yes, okay, all right.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so kind of like like from the uh Bull Durham uh movie, wasn't I think the catcher might have been named Crash.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: Although I guess you in I in the perfect world, you'd be not Crash Davis, but yeah, or Crash Survive or Crash Survive Davis.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: Well, we didn't ask about his middle name, that could be his middle name, Jeff.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: Could be, we don't know, could be so.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: Well, it's nice to meet you, Bob.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Crash Davis, thanks, everybody.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Uh good to be here.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: You know, Crash, we're gonna ask you about your advice to travelers for safety, but first we got to hear your story.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: Tell us about some of these these crashes that you've been in.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, I I always was fascinated with airplanes as a kid.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: You'd see them flying over, and it's like, well, I wish I could get on one of those.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And um then I I did, and um for some reason there was uh no landing gear on the plane when it came back down.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And wow, we just kind of skidded to a halt.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And uh the amazing thing is that was the first of the 17 plane crashes I have survived.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: 17 plane crashes, yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: And what year what year was that crash?
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Uh that was in 1989.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: So that was that was before spirit or after spirit airlines.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: It was uh kind of before, yeah.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: Was it yeah?
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: So it was before the optional you pay extra for yeah, you pay extra to survive the crash speed assignment, and yeah, and landing year, right?
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, landing yeah, landing year is an option.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, hey, if you don't pick it, you don't get it, right?
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Wow, and and to be fair, I do not count plane crashes on spirit airlines, otherwise it'd be you know 21.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, otherwise the record would be too easy.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, you'd have a lot more challenges.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: I gotta think you don't have a lot of competition for that record.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: 17 crashes.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: I mean that's gotta be you gotta be way ahead.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: There was one guy from Kazakhstan that was decided to give it a run, but um let's just say he's not getting over 12.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so yeah, that's gotta be a real handicap in uh in in breaking that record is you know, you never know when it's gonna stop.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: And when it stops, it boy, it really does.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: It stops gold, so to speak.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: It does, it does.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: Not to uh get serious here for a second, but I do have a question.
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: How many of these crashes did you actually cause?
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Oh well, you mean like uh was I the pilot on?
- 7:45SPEAKER_04: Well, that well, yeah, I I don't know, but it just seems like a lot of bad luck and good luck, right?
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: Bad luck that you had them, good luck you survived them.
- 7:54SPEAKER_04: I'm just wondering if trying to hold on to that world record that maybe you might have played more of an active role than somebody like me that you know just sits on sitting on the plane, you know, yeah dozing, eating peanuts, you know, whatever.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah, it's kind of like that Cal Ripkins streak, you know.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Um, it gets started, and then every once in a while you just kind of gotta go out there and make something happen.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna say which one, um, but um, you know, I did get my pilot's license, so I could uh kind of ensure that you know I can I can get the record if I need it.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I can I can keep things going.
- 8:28SPEAKER_04: Good to know.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: Good to know.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: Well, Crash, are there are there airports that people should avoid or maybe favor that are better or worse for crashes than than other airports?
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Because they all kind of look the same from the outside, don't they?
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: But maybe they're not.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll tell you, anything in a small mountain town is uh you're going fairly slow.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Um, and as long as you don't go face first into the mountain, if you can just kind of skid around a little bit, it counts as a crash, but you can walk away from the skidding around the uh face first into a mountain.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: You gotta be pretty lucky to walk away from one of those.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: That sounds pretty bad.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: So you're so you're probably looking at oh, like Phoenix, Sky Harbor Airport might be a good one because you're well, you got some mountains around there though, but maybe we're talking Minneapolis, you know, nice and flat, kind of around there.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Minneapolis is a great place to crash.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, I bet.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they're so friendly up there too.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: You crash, they probably bring you food and stuff, you know.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they just bring out, you know, some some snacks and oh, it looks like you crashed dairy.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's too bad.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, they just have a beer.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, oh yeah, and then they just toss it over in the corner with the other planes that have crashed and you go on with the rest of your day.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's great.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: Now, do you keep track of of statistics here?
- 9:44SPEAKER_04: Like how many people survived with you over those 17 or I guess 21 if you count spirit, 21 crashes.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: Were you the only survivors in most survivor in most of them, or was were there uh uh a number of other people too?
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: You know, um it's one of those things you were talking about on both good luck and bad luck.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Um bad luck.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: If you get on an airplane with me, there's right around a 10% chance that it's going to crash, but there's a 70% chance you're gonna survive.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: So you know, overall, you know, you take the good with the bad.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: That's me.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: So if I if I see you boarding an airplane that I'm on, I should maybe be a little worried, but also feel a little okay.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Sit close.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Sit close, get the seat next to me.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I like the window seat.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Uh well, I like the aisle.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: This could work out.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: You know, we could we could do this, yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: We could do this.
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you think you have to admit there are very few things in life where you get a 90% chance of succeeding, and yeah, I assuming you don't want to crash, you know, 90% of the time you make it, no problem, right?
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: It's only one in ten where you actually have a crash.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: And so I think those are pretty good odds.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: I'd take those odds in almost anything.
- 10:56SPEAKER_04: What about you, Steve?
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, one in ten, that's like hardly ever at all, right?
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, hardly anything happen every 10 flights.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: How long does it take you to take 10 flights?
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, my guy, so one of them might crash.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Well, okay.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, crash.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: We I we got a lot more questions about okay, you know, strategy and and what travelers should do to to stay safe and to survive the crash.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: But before, but first, Jeff, we've got a repeat sponsor.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: It's not it's not Spirit Airlines, is it?
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Because oh no, no, no.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: No, they want to be able to advertise I didn't think I didn't think their money was safe, you know.
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: Well, I actually I did want to take the money because you know we we are kind of in this for the money, Jeff, as you know.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: But I I was gonna take their money, but then they didn't like it when I said, Okay, now it's X amount of dollars for the ad.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: If you want me to actually run it, that's gonna be an upcharge.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: And oh, if you want me to run it and not cut it off in the middle, that's another I you know they they kind of they thought I was making fun of them, you know.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: I and you know, I was, but you know, I didn't know they knew that, you know what I mean?
- 11:56SPEAKER_04: But no, no, yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_04: Overall, though, they're they have a pretty good sense of humor, obviously.
- 12:00SPEAKER_04: You know, yeah, wasn't it?
- 12:01SPEAKER_04: Were were they previously value chat?
- 12:04SPEAKER_04: Wasn't that uh I you know, I don't know.
- 12:06SPEAKER_04: I think those airlines that changed their name to I think they were value less, maybe.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know value less, it might be anyways.
- 12:12SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, uh you digress, but I digress, yes.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: You know, Valentine's Day may be over, but those dating services sure are not over.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: Let me tell you, you know, that we've we've had a couple of ads from uh dating services.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: We had, of course, uh okay reaper, you know, the one that brought the romance back into necromance, you know.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Sure, but but not to be outdone, the other dating service that we'd had an ad, an ad from heard the ad that we had.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: I believe it was in our Valentine's Day show, in fact, and they said, Hey, we got to advertise with those guys too, because they're you know, we went we want to get back in with the dating services on this this popular podcast.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: So, Jeff, I don't know if you remember these guys, you know, you know, because dating services are really getting specialized.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: You know, they have dating services for that are better for women, they have dating services that are better for seniors, they have dating services that are better for divorced 37-year-old plumbers from Ohio.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean it's really gotten specific, you know, but there wasn't one that was better for guys, you know, because they figure guys will go anywhere, right?
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: So they didn't really make one for guys, but these guys did.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: These guys did.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: Now you probably remember these guys fumble, you know, the dating service for guys.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, they wanted to run an ad again, and I said, Well, you know, I think we should let them.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: So let's uh men are the women you meet on dating services into things like yoga or keto diets?
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Are you tired of paying for a whole date and not even getting a first down?
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Then try Fumble, the dating service for us guys.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: With Fumble, you can find a woman with just the right backfield, and you'll never have to worry about being called for holding.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: We screen every babe carefully, so you can be sure there are no ineligible receivers on our team.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Quit riding the bench.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Join the team on Fumble.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: With Fumble, you'll always hold on to the balls.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: I would go to Fumble as soon as the show's over.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: I'd go over there.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: And Fumble probably is it's it's a common thing to have happen to you when you're crashing.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and gosh, I'm Jeff, I'm glad you brought that up because uh crash or Bob or Bob Crash, I'll call you Crash Bob.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Crash Bob.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: Now, yeah, I imagine if you crash over water, Bob kind of comes in handy too, but but I digress.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: But so so when you crash, describe what happens.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: First you start going really, really fast, then you go even faster, and then you stop going fast, you stop moving at all.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: And um that sounds rough, right?
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: It uh well, you know, like I said, if you if you aim right, you can just kind of skip it like a stone going across a calm pond.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: But you know, you were talking about the water.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Well, let me tell you something about that.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: You know, that that glory hounds one time, one time he lands on a river.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, big deal.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: If I landed sideways in a FedEx airplane, I landed sideways on a railroad bridge.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: I wish I had a river to aim for.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: I mean a railroad bridge, especially what's happening with trains these days.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, that that sounds doubly dangerous.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, that was the thing.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: It's like uh the plane crash, you know, the plane was fine when it when it came to rest.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: It was the train that exploded next to it that caused most of the damage.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: And I bet when that happens, you just have to stop breathing.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you do.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you don't you don't want to take any chances.
- 15:47SPEAKER_04: When you're boarding a flight, I assume that people recognize you when you're at the airport, you do you have like a t-shirt or sweatshirt that says, you know, I survived 17 crashes, and then maybe you like you cross it off, and maybe it starts off as 14 and then you cross it off and wrote 15 next to it in magic marker, just to be green merch.
- 16:07SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, it isn't totally.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_04: So do you do you find that you're recognized?
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: And when you are recognized, do you do people want to be close to you because they know you're gonna survive, or stay away from you because they're they think they may crash?
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Well, it it's kind of funny that you say that because yes, I I am recognized, and um most of the flight crews that originate in the United States, they won't let me on the plane anymore.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: Um so I kind of have to get on with some new pilots or some pilots that are used to flying uh you know, some international flights where I'm not quite as well known.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: But the on the plus side, TSA just waves me through at this point because they figure it really doesn't matter.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: No, you know, nobody gets searched on the flights that I'm on because you know there's a 10% chance it's crashing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: So just get everybody on board and let's go.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, doesn't really matter if what they're bringing because hey, if they got eight ounces of liquid, who cares, right?
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: You know, you can bring a full size tube of toothpaste on any flight that I'm on.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: You know, you know, I'm gonna check with you because I love bringing those full tubes on, and and I'm gonna I'm gonna find out because I I'd like to I'd like to be able to do that, Jeff.
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: I just want when you're talking about TSA, I always feel sorry for them when we're we're in line, Steve.
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: I don't know when you were flying this last week, but the crowds are horrible.
- 17:27SPEAKER_04: And I would imagine crash, you get a good accident at an airport, and those crowds tend to thin out a little bit, and that's so TSA probably looks looks at it as hey, I'm gonna have an easy day.
- 17:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, tomorrow.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: They probably like seeing you.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Little known fact, half of the crashes happen at takeoff, so they're not just it's not just for landings anymore.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: So you're right.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: I come walking through that airport, you start hearing, you know, a little bit of a buzz, people start talking, and that line T TSA, it really clears out.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, I bet, yeah.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: That is, and and that's so good to know that you're helping those important workers that are doing that necessary job, and that that you're you're bringing them relief, you're bringing them succor, you're bringing them aid, you're bringing them help, and you're relieving them on their busy days.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: That is that's just that's so good.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: That's just a good thing.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: They they invite me to their Christmas parties, but that's outstanding.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: That's they do they they do insist on calling me an Uber though.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh, I bet.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, do now.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Do they go to when you go to their Christmas parties, do you have to go through like a metal detector to get in?
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, there's so much metal embedded in my body.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: A metal detector really doesn't do any good anymore.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: 17 crashes, you've seen a couple of doctors in your thing, yeah.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: I've bet I've I've got I've got stuff embedded so deep, it's like it's never coming out.
- 18:49SPEAKER_04: And and you know, crash, you you brought up a really interesting point.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: This is my next question, it was going to be so you you pretty much have you control the uh airline market for crashes.
- 18:59SPEAKER_04: What about car accidents?
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: What about train wrecks?
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: What about accidents that happen at boating boating?
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: Boat sounds like fourth of July, drinking, all kinds of boating.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: Have you have you thought about you know looking at some of those other categories?
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, I I thought about trying to get into the boating accident thing, but you know, I don't have Kennedy kind of money, so um, you know, I can't get insurance, so like I I can't buy an airplane and fly my own airplane because nobody will insure it.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Kind of hard to get a boat anyway.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: You know, though, um I bet you could get invited onto a boat though, or maybe maybe Guinness Book of World Records has a boat that they could throw a party on and you could you could test it out.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Well, that's a good idea.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'll bring it up.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm flying twice next month, so there's a good chance we're going up to 18.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: So I already have the Guinness people on on speed dialogue.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Oh John with Guinness over there in Ireland.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: John's playing, he's on uh he's uh my contact with the Guinness Book of World Records over there.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, you know what?
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: If you don't if you don't mind, after the show, maybe just uh text us where and when you're flying, just so we not that we are gonna be concerned, but just you know, in case we want to take a trip, you know.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: And if you if you are looking at uh as Steve mentioned, like the boating category of accidents, Kennedys are probably a good source.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: You know, if you want to sort of fast track to try to catch up in the in that category, although I guess they're kind of good on airlines too, and you know, all flying, but but yeah, Kennedys in just simple old biggest competition, maybe.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: The Kennedys do have kind of a mixed record in all transportation categories, yeah.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: So yeah, car it's skiing.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: Oh my goodness, they've got they've got it all covered, don't they?
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: Skiing, boating, flying.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Although, although they're in a different category, I think we'd all agree.
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: They're not in the survival category, they're not in the not so much.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: They're in the crash, but not the crash, but survive part.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: So you really are a different entity.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: You could say you're a step ahead of them, even though maybe you don't have the Kennedy money, but you're actually a step ahead of them because you're still here, you're still talking about your accidents.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: I tell you what, I do tend to drink like a Kennedy right before I get on a flight.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: And oh well, yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: I find that keeps you nice and limber.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Um, so you know, you're not resisting all of the forces that come with impact, you're just kind of going with it.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And if you just kind of go with it.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I mean, you know, if you want to fly with me, Steve, it's like sit close, drink heavily, and you got a 70% chance of surviving the 10% chance that you have of crashing.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Well, I you know, I think I've got that all covered, other than the ticket to sit close to you.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: But I I think the rest of it, I'm good, you know, because uh I it just pays because you never know when you're gonna have to be flexible, when you have to be relaxed, when you might need to roll a little bit with the punches.
- 21:57SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 21:58SPEAKER_04: Are there other types of Accidents that you tend to have besides crashes?
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, do you find that you get like paper cuts or you know you trip and fall on ice and things like that?
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: Or is it limited specifically to transportation?
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Well, I I gotta tell you, no, I I am pretty accident prone, pretty injury prone, but the glory, the glory really is in the plane crashes.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, saying magnificent.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, I fell on the ice eight times in the last eight in the last ice storm we had last week, but eight times.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's not newsworthy.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: No, but survived each one of them.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: I didn't, yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: So, but nobody asks you about those, do they?
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Nobody nobody says, Oh, hey, you fell on the ice, but it's like survive a plane crash.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: Hey, that's news.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: That's big news.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: It's kind of a home game, right?
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, sort of like if you the professional thing is you know, you crash on a plane, but if you wanted to play the Crash Davis game at home, yeah, you'd have on the board, you'd have things like ice and paper cutter, accidents and things like that.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: And crash, maybe you see that as kind of your training, your warm-up for the real work that you do with the plane crashes.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Maybe that's how you prepare.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of like LeBron shooting around in the driveway, you're in, you know, right?
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: It's like I can take that, and you know, and it's it's that mass appeal then.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, because even though I've only been in one building collapse, I don't really get to do a lot of public speaking anymore.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: It just and is it because people don't they think something might happen if they bring you in?
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Is that is that why you can't do public speaking?
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, it's always something, right?
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: It's like they got to fly me in, and usually if they fly me in someplace, they're flying me in with a bunch of other celebrities.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: Well, they're yeah, and their insurance guys say, No, no, no, no, no, you're not doing that with my celebrities.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: Because I, yeah, like you say, you you can't get the insurance, but they can, so oh yeah, no, you're on you know, you're somewhere.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm actually um the the insurance companies right now are kind of getting together where I can be the only passenger on a flight, no matter how big deal.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: Oh, I bet insurance companies around the world have your picture on the desk.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like uh like grocery stores have the check for the bounce, you know.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: They got it for price, like you know, I bet they got your picture everywhere.
- 24:22SPEAKER_04: Because the guys in Vegas, yeah, the guys in Vegas that are professional cheaters, you know, they they know who they are, so they keep out an eye out for them.
- 24:33SPEAKER_04: I I'll tell you, I'll tell you, Crash, I think we focus that people are missing the point.
- 24:38SPEAKER_04: They're focused, you know, it's like sort of that glass is 80% dead, but 20% dirty.
- 24:46SPEAKER_04: Oh, I mean alive, yeah, right.
- 24:47SPEAKER_04: Survive.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, 70% alive.
- 24:50SPEAKER_04: I think that they should look at you as having this the solution, not being part of the problem.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I've been saying that for years.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm your solution, right?
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean if people only did what you do, uh I mean, fatalities from plane crashes would go way down.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Right, because all you gotta do all you gotta do is just survive it.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just just just survive the plane crash and nobody dies.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: So what yeah, so you know, crash, what what should travelers do to be ready?
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: Because you know, there aren't a lot of I mean, most planes don't crash, right?
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: It's it's rare, but what should travelers do to be ready just in case they're on that you know odd one that does crash?
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: In that case, you know, it's like there's the debate whether you sit up front, you sit in the back.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: I find, you know, doesn't really matter if you're gonna skid across a runway and into a lake.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: I prefer to sit right next to a door just so I can get the hell out of there.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, so you do the exit rows, huh?
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: Good thinking, absolutely extra leg room that that way too, you know, for tall guys.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Extra leg room, and then and I bet that 50-pound door is no problem when you got that kind of motivation.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 26:01SPEAKER_04: And and you know, if they were gonna do a movie about you, I'm thinking that it would be someone like Leonardo DiCaprio, you know, that he that would play you.
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: Because I remember that movie that he just that he made a few years ago, catch me if you can.
- 26:15SPEAKER_04: You could use the same name, catch me if you can.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: You're you're you're crashing or crash me if you want someone to catch you.
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh to me, it it just it fits.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: You know, there is a treatment going around Hollywood right now, they're trying to get Johnny Knoxville.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, yeah, well, he does have the practice.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: Johnny and I have about the same amount of metal embedded in our bodies in various places.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, that would make sense.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, the acting would be a little better with Leo, I gotta tell you, but uh Johnny does have the practice.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: Maybe Leo doesn't, you know.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: I I mean, let's face it, I look more like Leo.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: So well, you do, yeah, you absolutely do, and uh you your viewers at home can't see him, of course, but he really does, and you look less like Johnny Knoxville than you do Leo.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, absolutely.
- 26:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, you know what's it's funny, Steve, because you know, if I wasn't listening to your intro, I would have sworn you were Leo in that role.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: Um, Edward Scissors hand scissor hand.
- 27:10SPEAKER_04: Wasn't that the one where he was in that?
- 27:12SPEAKER_04: Was that Leo?
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: Oh, I think no, no, no, Deff, that was that was Johnny Depp.
- 27:15SPEAKER_04: Johnny Depp.
- 27:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so you kind of look a little bit like Johnny Depp, but the scissors part, the metal part.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: I think that that is where the you know it's very similar, wouldn't you agree, Steve?
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Well, he does have he does have metal both inside and outside.
- 27:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, because you know, he's been in 17 plane crashes.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: He's he's kind of gotten beat up a few times here.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I you know, there I can see the metal, yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: It doesn't look sharp from here, but I bet it's not real comfortable to walk around with all that.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Is they you I'm sure you set off alarms everywhere you go.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh yeah, I'm very clangy.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: So uh yeah, hard to sneak up on people, isn't it?
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: It sounds like I'm wearing spurs, to be honest.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Just uh sounds like a cowboy wearing spurs walking through town.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: And that's probably how you know, like if you have a joint problem or knee problem or something, is if if the if the spur sounds a little off, if it's not bouncing the way, if it's not ringing the way a user, oh that ring, it's like you know, you that's how you know a bad coin, it just doesn't sound right.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: That's I bet that's how you know because you probably can't feel a thing.
- 28:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, although that's Steve as Steve knows I do have a joint problem.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, he does.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, but yeah, I could use a little help in that area.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Tony, Tony, Tony's coming back in town.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: Look, he had a lot of friends in South Florida and talked to some of the people.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: I don't see him back.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: He's coming back.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: Steve, you keep saying it, but I don't see him.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: He's coming back.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: He'll be back soon.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: He's uh having some fun down there, doing a little business, but but but we digress, but uh yeah, yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: But yeah, crash.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: Listen, any any final words for our audience on like what it really takes to maybe not just to survive crashes, but what what does it take to really set a Guinness book of world records record without being redundant?
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Well, I think what you've gotta have is again the the best ways to do it is find something that nobody else wants.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: And get really good at things that people don't like.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: So that's the the fastest way to fame, is uh that I found is get good at things people don't like.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: You know, you know, Jeff, we're already really good at things that people apparently don't like.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: So I think we're well on our way to a huge success, Jeff.
- 29:27SPEAKER_04: Think about it.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: I know, and I had that philosophy way back when I met my wife.
- 29:32SPEAKER_04: You know, that was one of the things that you know I prided myself in, and and it's turned out great.
- 29:37SPEAKER_04: Well, not great, but you know, like okay, like you know, like a crash, like you know, like you, yeah.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: So you're saying like you you start dating your wife because nobody else wanted her?
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: No, I didn't say that.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, good.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, I because she she listens to the P O D C A S T, Jeff.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: You probably don't want to see that, you know.
- 29:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but but what I'm saying is, you know, to clarify this, and Steve, you might want to edit that out when you have a chance.
- 30:03SPEAKER_04: Oh, I'll end work out.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Don't worry about that.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: Okay, good.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: But yeah, I'm just I'm just saying that you know, marriage can be a rocky situation, and there are dips and dives and crashes occasionally, and I have been able to survive.
- 30:19SPEAKER_04: Again, I'm not at the level of crash, but I'm I'm pretty proud of my survival rate with my marriage.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: Great, great, and you can put that in sleep.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: Put that in sleep because that's that part will go in.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, that'll go in definitely because that's and you know, maybe, maybe Jeff, maybe you could have a Guinness Book of World record record repetitiously redundant about about being surviving marriage.
- 30:39SPEAKER_04: I think that's true.
- 30:40SPEAKER_04: It it it may may be out of date at some point, but uh, but yeah, could certainly do that.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, Bob Crash Davis.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Great to have you here in the studio.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: And I I'll tell you, just have a have a safe trip home now.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: Don't you don't you worry about a thing.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: I think you'll be just fine flying out of here.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: All right, yeah, I'm gonna walk on down to the airport and fly on home.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: So, you know, fingers crossed and watch the news tonight.
- 31:06SPEAKER_04: 18 is probably your lucky number anyway, or I guess it'd be 22 if you count uh other things.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: But yeah, but 18 certainly is uh I predicted there the next time you're on our show.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: I bet you that you'll be uh you'll be over that 20 mark comfortably.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: It's just wonderful to have people that have that much confidence in your abilities.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Well, we do.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, we do, we do.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: I just you know, I gotta ask before we go, Crash.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: Who you you hold the record, but who's who's next in line?
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, so is anybody even close to you?
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Um, not anymore.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's right, that's right.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: But 12, yes, yeah.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: So 12 is is the closest, but yeah, yeah, it's as good as it's gonna get for that guy.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, there there may be an up-and-comer in Ohio.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: He's learning to fly some sesnas, so he thinks he can take those down pretty easy, but I got news for him.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: Those bounce a little nicer than he might think, you know?
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: You can bounce that thing right into something that doesn't move.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 32:03SPEAKER_04: Well, it's been great.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: It's been great meeting you, and I think we'll probably end up talking again.
- 32:08SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm pretty sure of it.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I hope we talk again and uh let's talk.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Like, don't forget to email me those uh those flights or text them to me.
- 32:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, me too, me too.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Jeff too, because you know we we may travel, who not?
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: But uh listen, thanks again, Crash and Jeff.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: I will see you next time with another guest.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: Sounds great.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: Talk to you guys later.
- 32:27SPEAKER_04: Thanks, Crash.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Come fly with me.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Let's fly, let's fly away.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: If you can use some exotic foods, there's a bar.
