- Dana (AI host): Your HubSpot agent can read your CRM. Dana (AI host): But what about Gong calls, Linear tickets, or Asana tasks? Rob (AI host): As of today, HubSpot's help page lists eighteen apps its AI agents can connect to. Rob (AI host): In April 2026, it was eight. Dana (AI host): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped. Let's go. Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies. Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI. Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you. Rob (AI host): Hey, welcome in! Rob (AI host): I'm Rob, and yes, Dana and I are AI hosts, so an episode about agents connecting to apps is basically a family reunion. Dana (AI host): A very nerdy one. Okay, what is this? Rob (AI host): HubSpot says you can connect its AI agents in Agent Builder to external systems through the Model Context Protocol, M C P. Rob (AI host): Agents get live business data and can take actions in those apps, without custom integrations or code. Dana (AI host): Give me an example. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's own example: a revenue operations team connects an agent to Gong and Notion to analyze customer conversations and generate account planning summaries. Dana (AI host): Nice. So how did we get here? Rob (AI host): In April 2026, our research covered four new connections: G2, Linear, Gong, and Amplitude. Rob (AI host): They joined Notion, Atlassian, Asana, and Zapier. Dana (AI host): What did each one do? Rob (AI host): Per our research, G2 brings software reviews and competitive intelligence. Linear manages issues, projects, and sprints. Rob (AI host): Gong queries call recordings and transcripts. Amplitude answers product analytics questions in plain language. Dana (AI host): Wait, G2 buyer intent too? Rob (AI host): Yes, our April research says G2 buyer intent shows which companies are researching products right now. Rob (AI host): But it also says G2 Buyer Intent needs a G2 Professional or Enterprise add-on. Rob (AI host): That's on the G2 side. Dana (AI host): Okay. And then May? Rob (AI host): May 2026, our research covered Asana MCP version two. Rob (AI host): A smaller tool set, simpler tool names, and less context window usage, so the agent spends its attention on your request. Dana (AI host): Did it just turn on? Rob (AI host): No. You had to reconnect Asana to get version two. Rob (AI host): And our research passes on HubSpot's advice: don't hardcode tool names, because the tool set keeps evolving. Dana (AI host): Okay, so today. Who's on the list? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page, updated October 16, 2026, lists Amplitude, Asana, Atlassian, Box, Canva, Fathom, G2, Gmail, Gong, Google Calendar, Google Chat, Google Drive, Linear, Notion, Slack, Xero, Zapier, and Zoom, which is marked beta. Dana (AI host): That's a roll call. Rob (AI host): And HubSpot adds a caution. Rob (AI host): Each app has its own setup requirements and capabilities, so check each app's own information. Dana (AI host): Quick break, then who can use this, and how the steps changed. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Connecting an agent to Gong or Asana is the easy part. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Writing instructions that tell it which tool to use, and when, is the part that really matters. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): At Sidekick, we fix what's broken and build what's missing, and we train your humans to run it. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Want help planning your first connected agent? George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Book a free strategy call at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Dana (AI host): And we're back. Who gets this? Rob (AI host): Here's a conflict. Rob (AI host): Our April research said one thing in one article, Professional or Enterprise, and Starter or above in another. Rob (AI host): Our May Asana article said all hubs and tiers, including free. Dana (AI host): Three answers. Which one wins? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page today. Rob (AI host): Starter, Professional, or Enterprise on Marketing, Sales, Service, Data, or Content Hub, plus Smart CRM Professional and Enterprise. Rob (AI host): And HubSpot Credits are required for certain features. Dana (AI host): So, not free. Rob (AI host): Not per the current help page. Dana (AI host): Okay. Steps? Rob (AI host): The names changed. Rob (AI host): Our April research said Breeze, then Breeze Studio, then Add tool, then the MCP Servers tab. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page now says Agents, then Agent Hub, clone the agent, then Add action, then the Connectors tab, then Connect and add. Dana (AI host): Clone first? Rob (AI host): Clone first. That part stayed the same. Dana (AI host): And Zapier's different, right? Rob (AI host): Right. Zapier uses a tokenized URL. Rob (AI host): You build your own MCP server in Zapier, copy the server URL, and paste it into HubSpot. Dana (AI host): Okay, control. Can an agent just go do things in Slack? Rob (AI host): You decide. Rob (AI host): In settings, under Integrations, Connected Apps, each app has read only and write tools, and each tool gets Always allow, Ask permission, or Never allow. Dana (AI host): Love that. And who can set this up? Rob (AI host): HubSpot says you need Agent Builder permissions to create and customize agents. Rob (AI host): And more, depending on the job. Rob (AI host): An agent that publishes landing pages needs edit and publish permissions for them. Dana (AI host): Anything we couldn't confirm? Rob (AI host): One. Rob (AI host): In April, our research said the Prospecting Agent and Breeze Assistant didn't support these connections yet. Rob (AI host): We couldn't confirm whether that's changed. Dana (AI host): Fair. And for developers? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's developer docs describe connecting external MCP servers to HubSpot agents through an app. Rob (AI host): That's labeled beta. Dana (AI host): Okay. Monday. Three things. Rob (AI host): One. Check the supported list against the tools your team actually uses. Dana (AI host): Two? Rob (AI host): Two. Clone an agent and connect one app. Rob (AI host): Then set each tool to ask permission while you test. Dana (AI host): And three? Rob (AI host): Three. Write extra instructions telling the agent which connected tool to use and when. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page says to configure prompt instructions that determine when and how the agent uses connected apps. Dana (AI host): What makes a good instruction? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's tips: name the Notion database and its purpose, list the column names and their property types, use specific names and details, and name the exact tool, like query database or retrieve page. Dana (AI host): So, be painfully specific. Rob (AI host): Painfully specific. And give an example of each input and the output you want. Dana (AI host): Check, clone, instruct. Got it. Dana (AI host): That's our show. Dana (AI host): Agent connections went from eight apps in April 2026 to eighteen on HubSpot's list today. Rob (AI host): Our full research is on the HubSpot Updates page at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Dana (AI host): Thanks for listening to Sidekick's What Just Shipped.
