- 0:00How about that defense tonight? It was great. Let's start with that.
- 0:03It was awesome. It was really uh, it was really good, really
- 0:08good. To make a lot of mistakes and we've rebounded the ball pretty well.
- 0:14You know, we lost our momentum a little bit, I think on
- 0:17both ends of the court in this in the third quarter, because they outscored
- 0:21us. Did that change when Page got her fourth file? No, it
- 0:24was before that. Okay, No, it was before that. Yeah,
- 0:28loose not smart. Here's not smart bout here's the number Lucy Elson, two
- 0:32of sixteen. What was the defensive game plan on her tonight? Well,
- 0:35you know, she's a really good scorer and she takes a lot of shots.
- 0:38She's taken three hundred and fifteen more shots than her next teammate before tonight's
- 0:43game, so we knew she's going to get the ball. And she's unselfish
- 0:46too though, because she leads their team and assists too, So she's a
- 0:48tough person I have to guard. But I just thought we did a really
- 0:51really good job on her, and we also did a good job on the
- 0:54kid that scored the most points fifteen at number four averages five points. So
- 1:00we took away their leading scorers, which were alsoon Runyon and Weber. So
- 1:04we did a really good job defensively and I think it shows because they only
- 1:07got ended up with forty six. It was on the offensive end that we
- 1:11struggled a little bit more. We couldn't get into any kind of flow,
- 1:15and then we took some quick shots, missed some layups, probably miss layups
- 1:19more. In the first half, Aliyah had some that you know, were
- 1:22makeable, but then we got some shots that you know, we ran our
- 1:26stuff and Page made some pull ups and you know, I thought Aliyah in
- 1:32the first half rebounded everything. In the second half we were a little bit.
- 1:34I think we were a little bit just slow to the ball until the
- 1:37fourth quarter. We'll talk about Alia Wards the impact she has, even if
- 1:41she's not scoring points, she has, but she drew so much attention.
- 1:45She had got quite a few players in foul trouble early that in the first
- 1:48two minutes he Dulcie had two and then they brought in fourteen off the bench
- 1:53and she had two. Then they went to their third post, which was
- 1:55number four, and then they actually played twenty three a guard at the post
- 2:00too, so we got deep into their bench and that was helpful because it's
- 2:05a size difference when when Dulcie's and she's a shot blocker, show block shots
- 2:08inside outside and to take her to neutralize her with vowels. That's the best
- 2:13way to guard, you know, to neutralize people, to get them in
- 2:15bouchub and get them on the bench. Yeah. See, she had our
- 2:17way with them. Chris, this was a grind into the early stages of
- 2:22the fourth quarter. Than you score sixteen of the last eighteen. What change?
- 2:24What did you see that was different down the stretch? Well, I
- 2:28thought we were changing sides of the floor and making them have to defend us.
- 2:34We were taking quick shots earlier in the quarter, probably more so in
- 2:38the third quarter, but we were taking quick shots and they didn't have to
- 2:40guard us. And when you make them go aside to side, we have
- 2:44a better opportunity to score and get the shot that we want talk about.
- 2:47Is that your entire team I saw at half at halftime pretty much eleven out
- 2:52of fourteen. That's pretty not impressive. When you said and one was we
- 2:55had one that was like at two nine to nine, so goodness, it
- 2:59would have been twelve out of tie. How impressive is that, Yeah,
- 3:00it was very I mean for our team personally, it's very impressive, and
- 3:05you know, our players work hard, but I think as a whole,
- 3:07as a department, when you see all the teams, the number of student
- 3:12athletes here that get a three point hour better, it's just really impressive.
- 3:15It says a lot about the kids that we recruit here and the kind of
- 3:17kids that we can recruit. But certainly it reflects Ellen Tripp and the student
- 3:22athletes success program too, because they have a lot of support here. Chris
- 3:25one to go Providence on Saturday, and it never seems to be easy,
- 3:30and you know, every time we play them, their men have a game
- 3:34at noon and it pushes our game late and it's just annoying to have to
- 3:36sit. You know, Like on a data, like going to school day,
- 3:39it's a little different because they have class and it's full, but on
- 3:42a Saturday, wait until seven o'clock is just really it's not fun. So
- 3:46I would rather have played a little bit earlier. But their men have a
- 3:50game at twelve and they didn't feel like they could handle both until seven.
- 3:53So and we're expecting a great crowd. I'm thinking that I heard that it
- 3:59was sold out, but I don't that's true, Chris. Speaking of sellouts,
- 4:01this place has not has been sold out pretty much every game since New
- 4:06Year's Eve, I mean both here in the Excel. The crowds have been
- 4:10spectacular. And he had Dan Orlovsky in the house today, yes, and
- 4:13his daughter Lennon and his wife Tiffany. He's got three boys, I know,
- 4:16and he was blessed with the girl finally, and so Lennon is a
- 4:20little basketball player and Dan wanted to come up, so we got him up
- 4:25here and she enjoyed the game and got to meet Page and so they're very
- 4:30happy. So we're happy to have them. All right, So we pretty
- 4:31much know what the top five is for the Big East Tournament. Saint John's
- 4:35with the Villanova losses. Now the three show's done a phenomenal job once again,
- 4:40without considering what he lost. Has a three seed. So it's either
- 4:43going to be the four to five game, will be Villanova and Marquette.
- 4:46So what is the eight and nine game? Don't know yet. Carl has
- 4:50tweeted out it could be locked in tonight, is DePaul because it's something Paul
- 4:57and Butler. Okay, oh wow, Okay, So it could be a
- 5:00Providence, right, Providence or Butler could be one of the one of the
- 5:03eight nine game too. Yeah, I think I heard that it was Butler
- 5:06or Providence, but I'm not positive about that. Well, how about another
- 5:10regular season Big East title? Yeah, I mean I get, I know,
- 5:14it's it seems to be a normal hat for everybody. But to say,
- 5:16how again getting that title, it's, you know, I think it
- 5:20reflects it's it's tougher to win the regular season because you have to do it
- 5:25over a long period of time. A lot of teams can get hot during
- 5:29the Big East tournament and then they end up winning the championship, but to
- 5:31do it over the course of the year and to do and right now we
- 5:34have one more game, and to do it the way we've done it.
- 5:38Hopefully we can finish it off in a league that's you know, the style
- 5:41of play of the teams in our league, and they're all well coached,
- 5:45it's not easy so for us to have to grind out some of the games.
- 5:47Some games, I mean today we won by twenty, but it really
- 5:49felt a lot closer, right, So it's it says a lot about the
- 5:53kind of players that we get their their willingness to do that, to play
- 5:57on a team that a program that has a a bulls eye on their back,
- 6:00but to win this is one of the goals, you know. You
- 6:03you play to win the regular season championship, and we did that and we
- 6:08want to finish it off on Saturday on a good note and then head into
- 6:11the conference championship feeling good about everything. I said, I think you have
- 6:16the trophy in front of the home crowd too, right, Yeah, you
- 6:18know that I loved I loved the and the streamer Charlie Horse, Yeah,
- 6:25she got need or elbowed. I don't know. She probably elbowed first,
- 6:28to be honest that she said it was an elbow or any If I watched
- 6:31the film, I'm guessing she instigated it. But that's what I think.
- 6:35Okay, Chris, is always a pleasure. We will see you on Saturday.
- 6:39Thank you. All right. That's the Daily, yes, Chris Daily
- 6:42and the Daily Recap.
