Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: Welcome to Brief Recess. I'm Michael. Today we're going to
- 0:09Speaker 1: be talking about the contentious Pam Bondi hearing, TMZ Guthrie
- 0:13Speaker 1: conspiracy theories, calls to deport Emily in Paris, which comes
- 0:18Speaker 1: directly from me wondering whether or not Kirk Coo Bang
- 0:22Speaker 1: was murdered or committed suicide. We have an incredible interview
- 0:26Speaker 1: with Martha, Kelly and all of I'm going to answer
- 0:29Speaker 1: all the questions from your dms, so stick around. Well,
- 0:33Speaker 1: thank you for joining me. Everyone. You may notice that
- 0:37Speaker 1: Melissa is not here, but I've got an extra special
- 0:40Speaker 1: guest co host, Karen Kilgarrett.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Hello, I'm welcome. I'm so excited to be here.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Melissa.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm sorry, my best I had to come to LA
- 0:51Speaker 1: because there's a detention center here that I had to
- 0:53Speaker 1: go to for work. And I was like, hey, Karen,
- 0:56Speaker 1: do you mind if I film my show in a
- 1:00Speaker 1: while i'm there?
- 1:01Speaker 2: And I said, no, I'm sorry, you're going to have
- 1:04Speaker 2: to rent it from us. What else were you doing?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Sure? I ven mooted you for the speaker.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Feet Yeah, Absilly did you go? How was it? Oh?
- 1:12Speaker 1: It was great to go and see my client who's there.
- 1:15Speaker 1: There's this like weird thing happening where well, it's not weird,
- 1:18Speaker 1: it's fascism.
- 1:19Speaker 2: But it's weird, though.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yes it is. It is fucking weird. But there's this
- 1:23Speaker 1: like Afghan families are getting arrested by ICE. And they're
- 1:28Speaker 1: Afghan families who have helped the US government and military
- 1:32Speaker 1: in Afghanistan during the war. So it's kind of insane
- 1:35Speaker 1: because they're here as a si lees from the government
- 1:40Speaker 1: that fell because of America's interference. Yes, and they were translators,
- 1:45Speaker 1: they were intelligence people who brought their whole families over
- 1:49Speaker 1: when the Taliban took over in Afghanistan and then lived
- 1:54Speaker 1: here for a couple of years under a different administration
- 1:57Speaker 1: and now are being scooped up by ICE agents and
- 2:00Speaker 1: being held at detention centers. Horri fine and so but
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean it's great because when I go to the judges,
- 2:05Speaker 1: they're like, girl, what.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Yeah, oh good? Immediately is a whack.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah. So, but it is like administrative paperwork. Just to
- 2:14Speaker 1: get in front of that judge. You have to like
- 2:16Speaker 1: get the bond motion prepared, which is a nightmare, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: a lot of times people are detained so you need
- 2:21Speaker 1: things signed, which is how are we going to get
- 2:24Speaker 1: it to them? So we have to mail packets out.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's a whole rigamarole. I mean, it's a disaster.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Thank God for you going to work every day and
- 2:32Speaker 2: just doing it and like having the attitude that you do,
- 2:35Speaker 2: because just even in that where it's like so so
- 2:39Speaker 2: these people who basically sacrifice everything for America and for democracy,
- 2:45Speaker 2: their reward is to be brought here and have democracy.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And soon after they arrive.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Exactly, yes, exactly, And it's like to flee that, come
- 2:54Speaker 1: here and then experience that, it's like damn, yeah, can
- 2:57Speaker 1: I catch a fucking brain.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Just fucking trauma after trauma?
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. It's like going from one
- 3:03Speaker 1: bad boyfriend to another.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It's it's your boyfriend controlled everything the world. It's so
- 3:12Speaker 2: beyond I mean the idea that's simultaneous to updates like that. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 2: then it's also Epstein, left, right and center.
- 3:20Speaker 1: This will drop a week from now, So we're recording
- 3:22Speaker 1: a day after the Pambondi hearing. So if we're a
- 3:25Speaker 1: little out of touch with what happens and how that develops,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I just made a video today about Pampondi lying in
- 3:32Speaker 1: front of Congress. Yeah, just the notion that it's one
- 3:35Speaker 1: thing to spin stories in the media like Trump does
- 3:38Speaker 1: all the time. Right, he defends, he denies, but you're
- 3:41Speaker 1: under oath, you're sworn in, Like what are you doing? Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: this is perjury, this is a felony.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And it's now so normalized. It seems like watching them
- 3:50Speaker 2: go up and speak over and over again, say just
- 3:53Speaker 2: do their their rehearsed lines like those things, and everyone's
- 3:57Speaker 2: trying to kind of get know.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Everyone's like, you're do we even listen to my question?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Like you're saying, what's happening in the Dow Jones we're
- 4:04Speaker 1: talking about victims of sexual violence? Like what is did
- 4:09Speaker 1: you even hear us?
- 4:10Speaker 2: And you've gone one to eighty on this topic?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yes, yes, exactly.
- 4:14Speaker 2: It's just insanity.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's insanity. Let's do a little sidebar. So this is
- 4:19Speaker 1: our segment where we talk a little bit about sort
- 4:22Speaker 1: of like what's happening in our week right now, just
- 4:23Speaker 1: what I talked a bit about what's going on in court, Yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 1: with the Afghan families that I'm working with. But it
- 4:29Speaker 1: doesn't have to be whatever you want to talk about.
- 4:31Speaker 1: What's happening, what's happening in your life.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I would say the biggest thing, and this is very
- 4:36Speaker 2: common in this it speaks to how much I'm addicted
- 4:38Speaker 2: to TikTok, but then also the kind of what feels
- 4:42Speaker 2: like a little bit of relief in all of this,
- 4:45Speaker 2: like absolute tsunami horror, and it is that the Bad
- 4:49Speaker 2: Bunny Show. And then these subsequent families watching the show,
- 4:55Speaker 2: so it's their reaction shop for nine minutes, I've watched
- 4:59Speaker 2: at least five differ diferent families for the entire show,
- 5:02Speaker 2: just them watching the show, and it is.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Oh, that's cool. That hasn't hit my feet at all.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It's just like so it's they're so excited, they keep
- 5:10Speaker 2: recognizing the references. They know exactly what's going on. So
- 5:13Speaker 2: then you're having this like secondary experience of like, I
- 5:16Speaker 2: just enjoyed the fact that I knew how hard it
- 5:18Speaker 2: would be to do that follow shot the entire time,
- 5:21Speaker 2: and that the grass.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Was moving like a producer liter like, how did they
- 5:26Speaker 1: pull this off?
- 5:27Speaker 2: I meanwhile, they're like the last Puerto Rican social club
- 5:30Speaker 2: in New York City. There is the one who owns
- 5:32Speaker 2: it called the Club.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I was like, as a New Yorker, I felt very
- 5:37Speaker 1: I had this sort of fomo where I was like, oh,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I've never been to that taco stand, and now I
- 5:43Speaker 1: never will be able to get in because it's going
- 5:46Speaker 1: to be packed. Yes, it's going to be backed. Yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and every time I go. But I just I loved
- 5:51Speaker 1: the I love spectacle. I love like the spectacle of it.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Melissa and I talked a bit about Bad Bunny and
- 5:58Speaker 1: in the lead up to the boat the super and
- 6:01Speaker 1: what we were excited for. And I don't watch the
- 6:03Speaker 1: super Bowl at all. Yeah, but I watched the halftime show.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I did watch. It was really fun.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It was so good. I mean I was worried because
- 6:11Speaker 2: Kendrick Lamar show was really unbelievable. So I was like, well,
- 6:15Speaker 2: how can they do like how can they do it?
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah? And Trump was like, We're going to have our
- 6:19Speaker 1: like alternate, our alt kid rock protest show and.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And and it had ten thousand viewers.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yes. And there's a video of Trump's party for the
- 6:31Speaker 1: super Bowl where they had a huge screen with Bad
- 6:35Speaker 1: Bunny playing. So you didn't even watch his own protest show.
- 6:40Speaker 1: He was watching the Bad Bunny Show.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's amazing. Also, it's that kind of thing
- 6:44Speaker 2: where I think they did it. They slipped it in
- 6:46Speaker 2: so perfectly. It was just like suddenly it was starting
- 6:49Speaker 2: and you were like, it was like you were watching
- 6:50Speaker 2: a movie. Yes, so you couldn't really like or not
- 6:53Speaker 2: that you couldn't, but like it was hard to tune
- 6:55Speaker 2: out because you were suddenly like, well, what's this a commercial?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Yes, a movie?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Another TV show, And then you're in it and it
- 7:02Speaker 2: doesn't matter what language you speak, because you get exactly
- 7:05Speaker 2: what's happening.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yes, and now okay, so my feet is trying to
- 7:08Speaker 1: force Emily in Paris down my throat. Fifth fucking season
- 7:12Speaker 1: of Emily in Paris? What kind of visa is she gone?
- 7:16Speaker 2: She bought the apartment? What's happening?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Can you buy an apartment in Paris? You're an American
- 7:21Speaker 1: citizen who's sponsoring your visa?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Is Emily still an assistant or did she get like
- 7:26Speaker 2: four promotions?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, she's got the fierce wardrobe. Deport Emily in Paris.
- 7:31Speaker 1: That's the one person who should be deported right now.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Get her out.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I can handle it. But yes, thank you for hosting
- 7:39Speaker 1: me in La I love it here. It's so beautiful.
- 7:41Speaker 2: We're so happy to have you is that weather as
- 7:43Speaker 2: crazy as it sound? Now, you grow that this weather
- 7:46Speaker 2: right this weather right now is so bad. I'm wearing eggs,
- 7:50Speaker 2: like I'm freeze.
- 7:50Speaker 1: This is freezing. Okay. So I was at the hotel
- 7:53Speaker 1: pool this morning before I had to go to court.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That is how cold it is in New York. I'm like,
- 7:57Speaker 1: if there's a window of light, I'm standing in it
- 8:01Speaker 1: like a cat. Like if there's a sliver of light,
- 8:04Speaker 1: I'm taking it up.
- 8:04Speaker 2: So is it still snowing?
- 8:06Speaker 1: It is unbelievable. It had snowed. It snowed a month ago,
- 8:10Speaker 1: and then it was a deep freeze to sub zero temperatures.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So the snow was beautiful for a couple hours and
- 8:17Speaker 1: then became a solid fucking rock. So if you fall,
- 8:21Speaker 1: it's like backbreaking it is. People are getting jackhammers to
- 8:25Speaker 1: get their cars out. There are these guys going around
- 8:28Speaker 1: New York with jackhammers, hammering ice to get cars out
- 8:32Speaker 1: because it's.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Not calm, Like that doesn't happen every year.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Never happened. I don't think I've ever remembered. I've been
- 8:37Speaker 1: in New York almost my whole life, and I've never
- 8:40Speaker 1: seen this before. It's really unbelievable. You know, dogs piss
- 8:44Speaker 1: on it and then it freezes, so it's just like
- 8:45Speaker 1: a museum of like dog piss and shit everywhere. It
- 8:49Speaker 1: is disgusting. It's actually, don't go to.
- 8:52Speaker 2: New York right now, like hanging an amber like an
- 8:55Speaker 2: old dragonfly Jurassic Park. You know what? That makes sense
- 9:01Speaker 2: now because I saw a video and I thought it
- 9:03Speaker 2: was just like random people fall down video, but it
- 9:06Speaker 2: was a guy who was on a very slight incline
- 9:09Speaker 2: down by.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So it looks like, oh, well, he's never heard from again, right.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Because it looked like they walked into a skate park
- 9:16Speaker 2: that froze and then he slid down a thing and
- 9:18Speaker 2: he literally couldn't stand and he couldn't make any movement
- 9:22Speaker 2: out and his girlfriend's laughing and filming him.
- 9:24Speaker 1: That would be me. I'm that girlfriend. Na.
- 9:27Speaker 2: He's like, baby, help me, please, you gotta get and
- 9:29Speaker 2: she's like, no, what are you talking about?
- 9:31Speaker 1: I tell Brad, if you're gonna fall down, it better
- 9:33Speaker 1: be memable content, and I better be filming.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And it kind of always is memeable content because yeah, truly,
- 9:39Speaker 2: there's nothing fun you.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Let's live stream his funeral, all right, let's take a break.
- 9:47Speaker 1: So this is your algorithm is show, and we're going
- 9:49Speaker 1: to get into a quick dive into what's happening in
- 9:51Speaker 1: our algorithms. I've seen a couple big headlines hitting and
- 9:55Speaker 1: again we're recording a week out, so these things will
- 9:58Speaker 1: update and I'll try and maybe I'll do drop in
- 10:00Speaker 1: if things changed drastically. But Nancy Guthrie updates Savannah Guthrie's mother.
- 10:05Speaker 1: So I am late to the game. I missed a
- 10:08Speaker 1: lot of this. Have you been following it all?
- 10:10Speaker 2: Not at all? And people were talking to me about
- 10:13Speaker 2: it on Super Bowl Sunday as if we had been
- 10:15Speaker 2: watching it side by side the entire time. So I
- 10:18Speaker 2: was like, I just pretended like I knew what they
- 10:20Speaker 2: were talking about. But I was like, it's starting to
- 10:23Speaker 2: sound like the most serious word salad is the world.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was like wait, and then I'm now
- 10:27Speaker 1: I'm googling and I'm trying to figure out. So we
- 10:29Speaker 1: did a little research. Her eighty four year old mother
- 10:32Speaker 1: has been missing since January thirty. First, it's February twelfth now,
- 10:35Speaker 1: so that's like a couple of weeks.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 1: FBI released nest footage of a man in a ski mask.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I saw it. It's really spooky. It's really scary.
- 10:44Speaker 2: It's so crazy that every horror like horrifying thing is
- 10:47Speaker 2: now caught on film.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, it's very Those nest cameras are really even
- 10:53Speaker 1: just the guy stealing the Amazon packages off everyone's.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Porch is chilling.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's chilling, but we don't chop it down is on anymore,
- 11:00Speaker 1: righte guys, because yeah, we can't support Bezos after he
- 11:03Speaker 1: please now obliterated WAPO. TMZ has actually been really breaking
- 11:08Speaker 1: a lot of this because they're getting these letters sent
- 11:11Speaker 1: to them.
- 11:11Speaker 2: They're involved, they're involved.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And they're just like passing them to the FBI. So
- 11:16Speaker 1: it's really interesting. I mean, TMZ to me was always
- 11:19Speaker 1: a gossip brag. It was always celebrity gossip, what's happening
- 11:22Speaker 1: in the news. But they arrested someone the other night
- 11:26Speaker 1: and then he was released a few hours later. There
- 11:29Speaker 1: have been reports of activity in someone's bitcoin account. I mean,
- 11:33Speaker 1: it's just really spooky.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I don't like, can I put a theory on the table, yes,
- 11:37Speaker 2: do it? And this is a theory. I hope I
- 11:42Speaker 2: hope this woman is safe. Yeah, is there a possibility
- 11:45Speaker 2: TMZ planned all of this? Because no one cares about
- 11:49Speaker 2: celebrity gossip anymore. Whoa, No one cares about that kind
- 11:54Speaker 2: of what used to really distract and occupy us. Yes,
- 11:58Speaker 2: it can't match anymore, so the Lindsay Lohan, I'm drunk
- 12:02Speaker 2: outside of a restaurant, guys out.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Of our Yeah, no one cares, No one cares, and
- 12:05Speaker 1: their viewership is down. I heard a conspiracy theory that
- 12:09Speaker 1: Savannah Guthrie had interviewed all these Epstein oh yeah victims,
- 12:14Speaker 1: which I didn't know about, and now when I google it,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I can't find anything about Savannah Guthrie interviewing Epstein victims
- 12:20Speaker 1: because the whole feed is covered in her mom's abduction.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I've actually dealt with some hostage situations before. There's oftentimes
- 12:29Speaker 1: I get, Yeah, I get calls from people they had
- 12:32Speaker 1: a family member at the border who's being held by
- 12:36Speaker 1: the coyotes, the people who traffic people across the border
- 12:40Speaker 1: and the cartel. The cartel will hold them and say
- 12:43Speaker 1: wires ten thousand dollars or we're going to be head
- 12:46Speaker 1: your family member, and it's like their uncle. So I've
- 12:50Speaker 1: had to deal with some hostage situations before. But usually
- 12:55Speaker 1: what happens is when someone's held hostage, you get the
- 12:58Speaker 1: demand pretty quickly. So whenever I've had to deal with it,
- 13:01Speaker 1: we get a demand immediately. They say I'm holding them
- 13:05Speaker 1: hostage and this is what I want, and we're going
- 13:07Speaker 1: to kill them if you don't give us the money.
- 13:10Speaker 1: And I will say usually when those clients call me,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I say, they will kill them, like that is something
- 13:17Speaker 1: that they do. They have no problem doing it. But
- 13:21Speaker 1: there's no demands that are at least being released by
- 13:23Speaker 1: the FBI on Samanna gu three.
- 13:25Speaker 2: So just this vague kidnapping. Yeah, this blooming, kind.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Of ominous, threatening guy in a sche mask. And now
- 13:31Speaker 1: we're just kind of getting these letters to TMC that
- 13:34Speaker 1: are being passed to the FBI. It's been a weird week.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Did you see they opened Kurt Cobain's suicide. Okay, so
- 13:42Speaker 1: this is like breaking news for the nineties.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say the thing of
- 13:46Speaker 2: somebody was talking about that. They're talking about that there's aliens.
- 13:49Speaker 2: They confirm there's aliens in.
- 13:50Speaker 1: The end, Well, there are so Roth Hernandez in here
- 13:54Speaker 1: to tell us we got that one. No, But he
- 13:58Speaker 1: died in nineteen eighty four at age twenty seven, and
- 14:00Speaker 1: at the time it was world to suicide and it
- 14:02Speaker 1: was huge, I mean fans across the world.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I mean I remember that day.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You remember that day?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah. We were in Golden Apple Comics, me and
- 14:11Speaker 2: Brian Posain, my friend and some They said it over
- 14:15Speaker 2: the radio. It was the nineties, so the Trestrow radio
- 14:18Speaker 2: was playing and the DJ came on and was like
- 14:20Speaker 2: kurk coo Bane is dead at twenty seven and then
- 14:23Speaker 2: we just were like eugh, and we just left and
- 14:25Speaker 2: walked up or drove up to our friend's house and
- 14:28Speaker 2: everybody met at one friend's house and we turned on
- 14:30Speaker 2: MTV and then just watched like everything made it was
- 14:34Speaker 2: the world, yeah, because he was. They were gigantic.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It was devastating to you personally.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It was we loved them, I mean that whole like
- 14:43Speaker 2: because it was Pacific Northwest and I'm from northern California,
- 14:46Speaker 2: so it was that kind of like the boys that
- 14:49Speaker 2: made it big wow. And they were always so like
- 14:52Speaker 2: I've got an old shirt on and you know, I
- 14:54Speaker 2: like feminism, Like it was very hopeful.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And their lyrics have survived like the time, oh yeah, right,
- 15:02Speaker 1: like they're still very relevant and meaningful now. I think
- 15:06Speaker 1: about that with TLC as well, like I do, Like
- 15:09Speaker 1: I listened to their songs and I'm like, this slaps
- 15:12Speaker 1: this still hits hard. Yes, but I wanted to talk
- 15:16Speaker 1: to you about this. Two days ago, a peer reviewed
- 15:19Speaker 1: paper presented ten points of evidence suggesting Cobain was confronted
- 15:23Speaker 1: by one or more assailants rather than a suicide. Discrepancies
- 15:27Speaker 1: they noted include the autopsy report, blood splatter, ballistics, body placement,
- 15:33Speaker 1: capped syringes, and a suicide note. So they did a
- 15:36Speaker 1: full breakdown. The investigator said, the original autopsy report shows
- 15:41Speaker 1: organ damage associated with oxygen deprivation. The quote is the
- 15:45Speaker 1: necrosis of the brain and liver happen in an overdose,
- 15:48Speaker 1: it doesn't happen in a shotgun death. So he allegedly
- 15:52Speaker 1: committed suicide by a shotgun. But with new DNA evidence,
- 15:57Speaker 1: with new medical techniques, they assess it again and it
- 16:02Speaker 1: looks like there is potential foul play in this case. Yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 1: which is crazy. It's over twenty years later. Police said
- 16:10Speaker 1: he injected himself with ten times the normal amount even
- 16:13Speaker 1: a heavy heroin user would have used.
- 16:15Speaker 2: He was a heavy heroin user, but ten times, but
- 16:18Speaker 2: ten times what he would.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Use, and so I'm I guess I'm curious, and CJ
- 16:22Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong. He injected ten times the
- 16:25Speaker 1: heroine and then shot himself with the shotgun. That seems sucks, CJ.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Can we get the answer on that, because we're not sure.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what the original finding was was that he
- 16:36Speaker 4: took so much heroin and then decided to kill himself afterwards.
- 16:39Speaker 4: But what they're saying now in this new report is
- 16:42Speaker 4: that that would have been impossible if he got through
- 16:44Speaker 4: three of those needles, that he would have even been
- 16:47Speaker 4: able to lift the shotgun.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It's so that's I'm like, I kind of can't process
- 16:52Speaker 2: this as it's happening, so I like keep going like, wait what,
- 16:56Speaker 2: it's all surreal?
- 16:57Speaker 1: Also wait what?
- 16:58Speaker 2: But also how did we miss this or who was
- 17:01Speaker 2: keeping it under wraps?
- 17:03Speaker 1: This?
- 17:04Speaker 2: Yeah, everything's coming out.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Yes, you know who was who investigated this? Because the
- 17:10Speaker 1: quote is where's the quote? This investigator says, we're supposed
- 17:14Speaker 1: to believe he capped the needles and put everything back
- 17:17Speaker 1: in order after shooting up three times, because that's what
- 17:21Speaker 1: someone does while they're dying. Suicides are messy, and this
- 17:24Speaker 1: was a very clean scene.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Now we've all seen. I haven't seen anybody shoot up
- 17:28Speaker 2: in real life, but in every movie you never see
- 17:31Speaker 2: somebody shoot up all this stuff and then go like
- 17:34Speaker 2: this and put the cap back on.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's not a get ready with me, it's a for
- 17:38Speaker 1: a haul, makeup tatorio, get back on. You're enjoying the high, you.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Immediately start enjoying that high, and cleaning is not involved.
- 17:46Speaker 1: In most headgunshot dets blood is often drawn into the airways,
- 17:50Speaker 1: but his autopsy didn't mention that spooky this is going
- 17:55Speaker 1: to be. We're going to see something happen here. I
- 17:57Speaker 1: feel like we're going to get some sort of breaking news.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But the new and investigators are not asking for arrest.
- 18:02Speaker 1: They're just looking at the evidence. So there's no actual
- 18:05Speaker 1: suspect here. But I think CJ correctman if I'm wrong.
- 18:09Speaker 1: They talked to the police who investigated this, and the
- 18:12Speaker 1: police were like, it's closed. We did we did the investigation,
- 18:15Speaker 1: we ruled it a suicide. It's over.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 18:18Speaker 1: So folded up in his pocket was a receipt for
- 18:21Speaker 1: the shotgun and a suicide note, which was all about
- 18:23Speaker 1: how he hates being a celebrity, he hates being in
- 18:25Speaker 1: a band, but the only part about suicide was in
- 18:27Speaker 1: a different handwriting at the bottom, in someone else's.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Handwriting, So it honestly sounds like fargo of hit men.
- 18:36Speaker 2: They were there like, uh, here's what put the receipt
- 18:40Speaker 2: in his pocket? Like none of that.
- 18:42Speaker 1: It's the guy's from home alone.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Coming in and shoving receipts and what's the fun. It's
- 18:50Speaker 2: so hacky.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and wait, but now I'm like mad at myself
- 18:55Speaker 1: and society. How did we accept this? How did we
- 18:57Speaker 1: miss this?
- 18:58Speaker 2: We were we were living off the fat of the
- 18:59Speaker 2: land in the nineties. Nobody wanted to look at anything.
- 19:02Speaker 2: We were just all like everybody be quiet, especially the
- 19:06Speaker 2: white privileged few, who was like, I pay three fifty
- 19:09Speaker 2: and a month for rent. I will not acknowledge anything
- 19:11Speaker 2: else happening in this world.
- 19:13Speaker 1: So it was very much like, oh, what we're being
- 19:15Speaker 1: told is the truth? Yes, and wow, okay.
- 19:18Speaker 2: You have a piece of that. When when you're being
- 19:22Speaker 2: lied to and you're like, well okay.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Okay, works for me, they're like, why would the police
- 19:27Speaker 1: light to us right? Yeah, okay, okay, cool.
- 19:29Speaker 2: That's nothing I can even broach right now, because yeah, I.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Have to warn we'll have to cover drop guns on
- 19:35Speaker 1: a different episode. We don't have time.
- 19:37Speaker 2: We'll have to cover receipt as facts, receipt pocketed receipts
- 19:42Speaker 2: as indelible facts and evidence in court.
- 19:46Speaker 1: A shotgun receipt. Fold it up. That sounds so perfect.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Someone who's done that much heroin to fold it up. Yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 1: for taxes, origami, the old Yeah, what is the Yeah?
- 19:57Speaker 2: So stupid, there's there's people here. It was just like
- 20:01Speaker 2: we've known this for twenty.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Five I know someone is yelling into their at third
- 20:06Speaker 1: while they're driving down the freeway.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Watch a fucking documentary like Michael, go ahead, well now
- 20:13Speaker 2: we know.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Now we know, and think, Yeah, thank you to the
- 20:16Speaker 1: investigators for looking into this. I mean I hope they
- 20:19Speaker 1: I hope they reopen it.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I'm fascinated because that all that sounds so insane and stupid.
- 20:25Speaker 1: There's no way that's not real.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Cap On the heroin needle is pretty I wish someone
- 20:30Speaker 2: if you just told me that, I wouldn't have gone
- 20:32Speaker 2: along with it all this time.
- 20:33Speaker 1: No, and yeah, I'm pretty skeptical. I don't think I'm
- 20:36Speaker 1: like a conspiracy theorist.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Like to think, but now we all are.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I do think Sylvia Brown was actually psychic. That is
- 20:44Speaker 1: my hot take.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Something near water, I see drown something near water.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Honey, the land, Honey of the land. And honestly, I'm like, yeah, honey,
- 20:56Speaker 1: the land. That's true.
- 20:57Speaker 2: It is true, it's the land. If you get a
- 20:59Speaker 2: noun in there, you just get a really affirm you
- 21:03Speaker 2: feel strong about a noun and throw it at somebody,
- 21:06Speaker 2: they'll have to agree.
- 21:07Speaker 1: That is the whole premise of mad libs. And you
- 21:09Speaker 1: just get a noun in there, you're good.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah, just be like the land. Am I right? And
- 21:14Speaker 2: people are like, yes, I'm spiritual too.
- 21:16Speaker 1: We're getting we're getting reports of nouns in the.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Studio that is mind blowing.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy? I know I really broke you. I'm sorry.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I really came in and said please sit down.
- 21:26Speaker 2: At one point I was like stop thinking you're on
- 21:28Speaker 2: a podcast on video right now, because I was like,
- 21:31Speaker 2: wait a second, if that then this because.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I know we're living together, Karen and I are getting
- 21:35Speaker 1: dinner later and we're going to do a full We're.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Gonna do a full, beautiful mind.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I want to be that that meme of that guy
- 21:42Speaker 1: where it's like a corkboard and he's circling stuff and
- 21:47Speaker 1: he looks like crazy, I can't believe this.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Yeah, what else is coming? Wait, it's so much the handle?
- 21:55Speaker 1: What else is coming? Martha Kelly?
- 21:57Speaker 2: Our guests publican woman makeup filter is coming to save us.
- 22:03Speaker 1: All forehead corner our next segment. So we have an
- 22:08Speaker 1: extra special guest in the studio today, Martha Kelly. Let's
- 22:11Speaker 1: bring her in. Let's she's on wires. We're going to
- 22:13Speaker 1: have her lower down.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh nice, good, like a little angel.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Well, welcome back to Brief Recess. We are here with
- 22:22Speaker 1: our extra special guest. This is Martha Kelly. Welcome, may
- 22:27Speaker 1: Welcome to your ears. Martha Kelly, thank you for joining us.
- 22:30Speaker 1: We were just talking about your neils.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Thank you for beautiful. They are press on.
- 22:35Speaker 1: This is your camera, show them.
- 22:36Speaker 3: These guys are press on because underneath is a is
- 22:41Speaker 3: an absolute massacre of stubs.
- 22:44Speaker 2: So, and how long were you a hand model?
- 22:48Speaker 1: For?
- 22:48Speaker 3: About forty five years us, if you don't mind, and
- 22:53Speaker 3: I mean now, what's in now is crooked fingers, and
- 22:57Speaker 3: which is lucky for me because I runs in my
- 23:00Speaker 3: family that your your hands turned into crooked branches as
- 23:04Speaker 3: you get older. Yeah, yeah, and so I'm like we're
- 23:08Speaker 3: new market.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for hand modeling. The kids love it.
- 23:11Speaker 3: They love everything about getting older kind of a nart.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Those are good press on nails though, because sometimes when
- 23:17Speaker 1: those are they've got a good shape and size to them.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Because when I do press on nails, I have to
- 23:22Speaker 1: get like women's extra large toenails, like the big toe
- 23:28Speaker 1: fits on my pinky. Really, because I'm just a giant
- 23:32Speaker 1: man hands, I can't get a big enough press on. So, yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 1: you know it's about what I'm getting the what is
- 23:38Speaker 1: it the Sally Henson. Yeah, press on toenail. That's when
- 23:42Speaker 1: you know it's Halloween in my house.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Well there's a niche in the market.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Then, yeah, there is.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you have some nice man hand.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Press on especially as gender is becoming more and more
- 23:57Speaker 1: fluid spectrum is gender like, we need need representation matters,
- 24:01Speaker 1: We need press on nails that fit all hands. Yeah,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I've always that.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I absolutely support toenail sized press on nails for people
- 24:11Speaker 3: with larger hands, and I would support if they would
- 24:14Speaker 3: make shorter press ons for people uh with uh with
- 24:20Speaker 3: tiny nail beds where everything looks look how long those are.
- 24:24Speaker 3: That's not that's not good for me. I'm not a.
- 24:27Speaker 1: No, I think I think it's giving Northern New Jersey.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 24:33Speaker 2: You have more secretary's life, so you need, like we
- 24:37Speaker 2: need to be able to type. You need to be
- 24:38Speaker 2: able to.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Answer podcast prolific type is hell book on the show. Well,
- 24:46Speaker 1: thank you for joining us, Martha. I'm just so thrilled
- 24:48Speaker 1: to chat with you. You and I have been TikTok
- 24:51Speaker 1: besties for a long time. Yes, I followed you on
- 24:54Speaker 1: the socials. We've become friends that way.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yeah, And I.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Thought it would just be fun to chat with you.
- 24:59Speaker 3: You.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I've seen you everywhere. I've heard your voice everywhere. I
- 25:02Speaker 1: just was excited when I was coming to LA, I
- 25:04Speaker 1: was like, can we get Martha on the show? And
- 25:06Speaker 1: Karen and you go way back?
- 25:08Speaker 3: We do go way back. We go back farther than
- 25:11Speaker 3: Karen even knows, because I was a fan of hers
- 25:13Speaker 3: before we ever met. Oh yeah, you mean my grammar
- 25:17Speaker 3: school stuff, the stuff that you were doing in fifth grade.
- 25:20Speaker 3: No one was doing that right. Yeah.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I was on the playground. I was the girl who
- 25:25Speaker 2: would bully and it was groundbreaking and it was fresh,
- 25:29Speaker 2: it was exciting.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Listen. Representation matters. Yeah, that is so important. You know,
- 25:34Speaker 1: we need more girl bullies. Yeah, like we need it.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Here's the thing. I knew of Martha Kelly when I
- 25:40Speaker 2: started stand up, but I didn't know how good you
- 25:44Speaker 2: were at stand up until I saw you in La
- 25:48Speaker 2: do a set, and I thought, I just you were
- 25:50Speaker 2: friends with all the same people I was friends with,
- 25:52Speaker 2: So I was like, just probably a regular old stand
- 25:54Speaker 2: up And then when you see Martha Kelly go to
- 25:56Speaker 2: a comedy club and rip those people and new you
- 26:00Speaker 2: will not believe your eyes and ears.
- 26:04Speaker 3: She's truly one of the greatest middle aged woman destroys Heckler.
- 26:07Speaker 3: It's like it's my YouTube channel.
- 26:09Speaker 2: You've seen her videos she's done at a time.
- 26:14Speaker 1: So you came through the stand up comedy scene in Austin, Texas, right, Well.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I started in LA and then at two years I
- 26:21Speaker 3: decided it wasn't fair that I wasn't rich and famous
- 26:23Speaker 3: yet in La, so I said, to hell with you guys,
- 26:26Speaker 3: I'm moving to Austin, and I moved there and did
- 26:32Speaker 3: stand up, which was great because you can get more
- 26:34Speaker 3: stage time and smaller especially Austin in two thousand and
- 26:38Speaker 3: I moved in January two thousand, so you could get
- 26:41Speaker 3: a ton of stage time with no industry people seeing
- 26:46Speaker 3: you mess up. And also like the level of acceptance
- 26:51Speaker 3: for alcoholism. There is a lot better than here. And
- 26:55Speaker 3: I'm an alcoholic so I've been sober a long time now,
- 26:58Speaker 3: but when i want those like this, I can drink
- 27:02Speaker 3: every night with all these Austin comics and improv people.
- 27:06Speaker 3: And if you're not the one punching the weight staff,
- 27:09Speaker 3: you're like, you don't have a problem, you don't have
- 27:11Speaker 3: a problem.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like that in the South. I went to
- 27:13Speaker 1: school in New Orleans and it was very supportive of
- 27:17Speaker 1: drinking problems. Yeah, yeah, they're really.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Can't you drive through places and get hard strengths?
- 27:24Speaker 1: And the law in New Orleans This is a legal podcast,
- 27:27Speaker 1: so let me just do a quick legal shout out.
- 27:29Speaker 1: The law new Orleans is that if you get the
- 27:31Speaker 1: dakri drive through and you get pulled over, as long
- 27:35Speaker 1: as the it's a it's a styrofoam cup with a
- 27:39Speaker 1: plastic lid, and as long as the straw isn't in it,
- 27:41Speaker 1: it's considered a closed container for dewee purposes.
- 27:46Speaker 3: That is really wild. It's really wild in Louisiana.
- 27:51Speaker 1: And they also sell bags of dakri where it's like
- 27:54Speaker 1: a slushy machine, and it's just a basically a plastic
- 27:57Speaker 1: shopping bag that you can just kind of drop a
- 27:59Speaker 1: straw into.
- 28:00Speaker 3: That is wild.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's great. I mean, if you could go back
- 28:04Speaker 1: in time to went before you were sober, it would
- 28:07Speaker 1: have been a great city for you. Would have done
- 28:08Speaker 1: numbers there.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Marc, you and I would have gotten our own
- 28:12Speaker 2: bags and then sat on the couch and then gotten drunk.
- 28:15Speaker 3: With plastic Ralph's bags full of dakers.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Ralph's oh no.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And maybe some camel camel whites, camel white on the couch.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Yeah, you both were smoking.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 3: I still think if I ever found out that I
- 28:31Speaker 3: had a terminal illness, I would start smoking again.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Why not? What about the terminal illness of reality?
- 28:38Speaker 1: How bad?
- 28:39Speaker 2: Just get in there.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I'm paranoid about the only I only know two people
- 28:44Speaker 3: this happened to, But I'm paranoid that it's a phenomenon
- 28:48Speaker 3: where people who quit smoking for a long time and
- 28:51Speaker 3: then started again very quickly got terminal lung cancer. One
- 28:55Speaker 3: was my friend's dad and one was was it Peter Jennings.
- 28:59Speaker 3: It was one of the popular news guys and he
- 29:02Speaker 3: started smoking on nine to eleven, and then I think
- 29:06Speaker 3: it was like just a couple of years later he
- 29:07Speaker 3: died of lung cancer. So I think of like I
- 29:11Speaker 3: think of my lungs hiding potential lung cancer going if
- 29:15Speaker 3: you ever give us a chance to break out here like.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Those cicadas that sleep for like seven years. Oh yes, yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 1: it's like that. I do think about cigarettes all the time.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Now.
- 29:26Speaker 1: They're great, real I don't want to you know what.
- 29:33Speaker 1: They're great.
- 29:35Speaker 2: When I was in my twenties, sometimes I would wake
- 29:38Speaker 2: up in the morning, I'd be super hungover and immediately
- 29:41Speaker 2: light a cigarette because I was trying to be as
- 29:43Speaker 2: like what I thought was like edgy as possible. Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 2: but no one was there, Like.
- 29:49Speaker 1: You were alone.
- 29:51Speaker 2: You're trying to prove to yourself camera life, like what
- 29:55Speaker 2: are you like?
- 29:56Speaker 4: What?
- 29:56Speaker 2: Who was it for? I don't know what I was doing.
- 30:00Speaker 2: It's so embarrassing.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Oh my god, you're looking and now you're looking back
- 30:04Speaker 1: and you're like, girl, what were you doing? Girl?
- 30:07Speaker 3: Who are you showing off for?
- 30:09Speaker 2: No one's in the room.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I would do that the Camera of Life smoking while
- 30:12Speaker 1: driving around Long Island. That was my thing, and we
- 30:15Speaker 1: would smoke. Disgusting they weren't even like good ones. It
- 30:19Speaker 1: was like, yeah, menthol Capri.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I was gonna say, did you ever smoke Capris?
- 30:24Speaker 1: Whatever we could get our hands on because we were
- 30:26Speaker 1: like fifteen.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 1: So it is that one addiction where it's like my husband,
- 30:31Speaker 1: it's like, you're not allowed ever, even if you're drunk,
- 30:34Speaker 1: no matter, no matter what, it's the one thing. Yeah,
- 30:37Speaker 1: you're not allowed to touch them again because it is
- 30:40Speaker 1: you will pick it up instantly.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:43Speaker 3: I have to say, though, the cigarettes and cloves that
- 30:46Speaker 3: we smoked as teenagers are the best you'll ever smoke.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Is when you're I don't want teenagers to start smoking,
- 30:55Speaker 3: but if you do, those are the most enjoyable cigarettes
- 30:58Speaker 3: you're ever going to smoke.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah, there's rebellion just in that three minutes. You're just
- 31:05Speaker 2: like fucking mom, dad.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Wild.
- 31:11Speaker 3: They were big in the eighties, which is when I
- 31:13Speaker 3: was a teen, and they were they were lung.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Burning, laced with flavors.
- 31:20Speaker 2: And I told you this story. I think when my
- 31:22Speaker 2: mom found clothes in my pocket because of course I
- 31:25Speaker 2: was too stupid to hide them. I left them in
- 31:27Speaker 2: my jeans pocket after like going to a concert or something,
- 31:31Speaker 2: and all because my mom was a psychiatric nurse, so
- 31:33Speaker 2: she had a lot of tricks, and she came and
- 31:35Speaker 2: just threw them on my desk and goes, I mean,
- 31:38Speaker 2: you can smoke those if you want to, but they
- 31:40Speaker 2: have little shards of glass and them that rip up
- 31:42Speaker 2: your lungs. And then she walked away.
- 31:44Speaker 1: And it was they put fiberglass in them. So I
- 31:48Speaker 1: don't know if that was like a legend.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Absolutely it was a lie that parents told their kids.
- 31:53Speaker 2: But then I was just like, oh my, and then
- 31:54Speaker 2: you're like, oh yeah, you can feel it.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Because and then you form a glass vase in your
- 32:00Speaker 3: lungs from the close cigarettes, and how lovely.
- 32:04Speaker 2: A beautiful red rose, and the beast comes and turns.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Into a brin.
- 32:07Speaker 1: And that's how morano glasses made. So we're seeing a
- 32:12Speaker 1: lot of you lately. We've got four Head Corner. We've
- 32:15Speaker 1: got Republican.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Women, makeup, filter, make up.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Pilter, my favorite, your cat, Gary, Gary. We've got Euphoria.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Coming up in April beautiful.
- 32:28Speaker 2: And you've become a meme from that one line in Euphoria,
- 32:32Speaker 2: which is wild because that day my head was swollen
- 32:36Speaker 2: because I had had my.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Hair colored dark the day before, and they did it
- 32:40Speaker 3: twice because the first time it wasn't dark enough. So
- 32:43Speaker 3: when I saw that that pre trailer come out with
- 32:47Speaker 3: just that me in the window with my head, I
- 32:49Speaker 3: was like, that can't that can't be what my head
- 32:52Speaker 3: really looks like. Please God, please don't. And then I
- 32:56Speaker 3: looked up you know the monster guy from the Goonies. Yeah,
- 33:02Speaker 3: that's what to me that I put those pictures side
- 33:05Speaker 3: by side or your head your faces too, I was.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Like, was swollen from getting your hair color because.
- 33:14Speaker 2: They lost Why were your eyes on even?
- 33:17Speaker 3: Why did I only have one sprig of hair coming
- 33:19Speaker 3: up out of a bald head.
- 33:21Speaker 2: And you grew three feet?
- 33:22Speaker 3: But okay, yeah, I mean and I lost a couple
- 33:25Speaker 3: of teeth.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Beautiful transformation.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it was well because I had an allergic reaction
- 33:30Speaker 3: because they left it on for like an hour and
- 33:32Speaker 3: a half. I mean they did like two forty five
- 33:34Speaker 3: minute cycles of hard, hard Look your hair.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Dye, I mean your hair is not that light?
- 33:42Speaker 3: No, but it had been for a while. For several years.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I thought I was a person who wanted light hair,
- 33:51Speaker 3: but then once I got it dark again, I was like, well,
- 33:53Speaker 3: my natural color is dark, and the light hair looked
- 33:58Speaker 3: always looked a little weird on me. But you know what,
- 34:02Speaker 3: we live and we learn.
- 34:03Speaker 2: It takes time to get your own personal style together. Yeah,
- 34:08Speaker 2: many decades for me sometimes.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, to just figure out how you want to
- 34:13Speaker 1: express yourself. Sometimes it's press on nails.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Sometimes it's a gigantic head. Sometimes it's a swollen head
- 34:20Speaker 3: on a just on a TV show that millions.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Of kids watch.
- 34:25Speaker 1: And not only that, but it'll be the one clip
- 34:28Speaker 1: that gets released for the entire preview eating up to
- 34:32Speaker 1: the show. I just keep seeing that there's show that
- 34:36Speaker 1: hasn't aired in five years, and this is the one
- 34:39Speaker 1: window into the show that we get. For those fans
- 34:43Speaker 1: who've been waiting five years. It's your swollen.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Heads so big, that big old goonies guys starting that's
- 34:52Speaker 3: not true, Martha, and.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Those people that have been waiting love you. Those fans
- 34:57Speaker 2: love you.
- 34:58Speaker 3: I'm startled by gen being nice to me. I thought
- 35:01Speaker 3: they would hate me because the character is so mean
- 35:04Speaker 3: to Zendaya. And also, I just expect, as you, I guess,
- 35:09Speaker 3: as you get older as I have, I always expect
- 35:12Speaker 3: the younger generations to be like you, old battle axe,
- 35:16Speaker 3: you know, but they're really nice. I think generations have
- 35:22Speaker 3: gotten progressively nicer since jen X, which is what I am.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I think they were like, that's enough trauma for everybody.
- 35:28Speaker 2: We're gonna ye head in the other direction. It's not
- 35:30Speaker 2: working out.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 1: And also I don't see your characters being like mean, true,
- 35:34Speaker 1: I think you yeah, I guess yeah, this is a
- 35:39Speaker 1: drug dealer, this is a danger.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I will say your performance. And I did not know you.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I didn't even have TikTok when I first saw you
- 35:46Speaker 1: on the show. So this is like, you know, this
- 35:49Speaker 1: was the dark ages really like we were slab and
- 35:51Speaker 1: Chisel still, like this was back analog, Like yeah, so
- 35:55Speaker 1: my husband and I like talked about you and your
- 35:57Speaker 1: performance as Stranger. I really did not know you at all.
- 36:02Speaker 1: No one knew me on the internet, and we were like,
- 36:06Speaker 1: that was the scariest performance, portrayal, casting writing. It really
- 36:14Speaker 1: was spooky dookie.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Well I'm glad. I'm glad it was spooky dookie because
- 36:21Speaker 3: that is my that's my school of acting. It's like
- 36:26Speaker 3: there's method acting. And then if I could remember a
- 36:31Speaker 3: single acting teacher's name, this would have been a funny bit.
- 36:34Speaker 3: And then the third thing would be a spooky.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I can't really trying to go through my files for
- 36:42Speaker 2: you and jump in.
- 36:43Speaker 3: I could sella somebody Stella Adler method acting.
- 36:47Speaker 1: There are a movement one, there's like a movement one.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's somebody's last name.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Good thing. None of us are actors, and yeah, thank god,
- 36:54Speaker 1: you know.
- 36:54Speaker 2: When I'm not an actor, I can't remember a goddamn
- 36:56Speaker 2: line for a word or anything. I can't do it. Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 3: I do have a hard time with.
- 37:01Speaker 1: That, but it's only critical to your job.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I just that's the one thing that I buckle
- 37:09Speaker 3: down and force myself to memorize my lines because it's
- 37:13Speaker 3: the only thing that I can ever confidently bring to
- 37:15Speaker 3: an acting job is well, I came on time and
- 37:18Speaker 3: I know my lines. Beyond that, it's on you. You
- 37:22Speaker 3: hired me.
- 37:22Speaker 2: What are your tricks of memorizing do you have any? Well?
- 37:26Speaker 3: First, I just read it over and over again, and
- 37:29Speaker 3: it starts to sync in like when you listen to
- 37:32Speaker 3: a song over and over but you're not trying to
- 37:34Speaker 3: memorize the lyrics. And then I just start remembering it naturally.
- 37:38Speaker 3: And then I practice going through line by line without
- 37:41Speaker 3: looking at the script. But the other other thing that
- 37:45Speaker 3: I'm really lucky is that I don't ever have long monologues, Like,
- 37:50Speaker 3: I've never had a part where I had to memorize
- 37:53Speaker 3: tons of lines. And let's keep it that.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Way, keep it sure, just drop in character.
- 38:02Speaker 3: It's such a lucky thing to be a character actor
- 38:05Speaker 3: because you don't you never have the pressure of carrying
- 38:08Speaker 3: a show and you don't have to memorize sons of lines.
- 38:12Speaker 1: It is the best gig. You get to come in,
- 38:14Speaker 1: yeah for what a couple of days a week, maybe, Yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 1: blow everyone away with being that little that little punchy
- 38:22Speaker 1: smoky dookie, spooky dookie. You get to just kind of
- 38:25Speaker 1: breathe a little life into the scene, into the show,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and then you're home by six.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yeah. It's fun and it's I always think about how
- 38:36Speaker 3: after the first season of Three's Company, the Ropers got
- 38:39Speaker 3: their own spin off, and I always think about, like
- 38:43Speaker 3: that is a cautionary tale for character actors.
- 38:46Speaker 1: We're always saying that it was Ropers are cautionary tale
- 38:51Speaker 1: all the time.
- 38:52Speaker 2: It wasn't good.
- 38:53Speaker 3: It got I think it got canceled after one season,
- 38:56Speaker 3: and I don't know if it even lasted that season,
- 38:58Speaker 3: And so I I've always felt like, yes, of course
- 39:01Speaker 3: as a comedian. When I started out, I was like,
- 39:04Speaker 3: I want to be like Roseanne or Jenning geroffalo like
- 39:07Speaker 3: I want to just skyrocket to the top. And then yes, that.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Was your thought. You're like, I want to be a
- 39:14Speaker 1: famous smoke.
- 39:15Speaker 2: One of the great smokers.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Let me get enough money to where I can smoke
- 39:18Speaker 3: and drink all day and not have to worry about brat.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Do you remember looking at the cartons of cigarettes and
- 39:24Speaker 1: being like, who could possibly afford that? I remember that
- 39:27Speaker 1: thought of being like, oh no, I'm on a case
- 39:29Speaker 1: by case basis here, like where if I could buy
- 39:31Speaker 1: the three pack, I would, but we're not in Europe,
- 39:33Speaker 1: like I'm saving up for that full pack of cigarettes.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Although, Michael, I have to tell you, because you weren't
- 39:42Speaker 3: born at this time, there was a time when cigarettes
- 39:45Speaker 3: went up to one dollar a pack and we were scandalized.
- 39:50Speaker 3: So by the time you were smoking why burning down buildings,
- 39:58Speaker 3: you could still get them from vending MISSI Jeans, And
- 40:01Speaker 3: I think when I was an early teen you could
- 40:03Speaker 3: get them for like seventy five cents, and then they
- 40:05Speaker 3: went up to a dollar and then but I think
- 40:08Speaker 3: by the time you started smoking, they were probably already
- 40:10Speaker 3: like ten bucks a pack.
- 40:13Speaker 1: They were four. Okay, yeah, I'm completely bald, so I
- 40:17Speaker 1: am a little older that, so please be respected. Please
- 40:19Speaker 1: respect that. We talked a lot about your hair this
- 40:21Speaker 1: whole episode, and it's been really I'm sorry, it's been
- 40:24Speaker 1: really inconsiderate. I have to wear wigs, I have to
- 40:28Speaker 1: wear a full lace front, and snatched it off you
- 40:31Speaker 1: in the first segment, so I do feel like, yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: I'm a lot older. And we used to go to
- 40:36Speaker 1: the Native American drive through cigarette on the reservation.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Oh really it was.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I grew up on Long Island, so there were Native
- 40:45Speaker 1: American reservations and you could buy cheaper cigarettes and it
- 40:49Speaker 1: was four dollars a pack. That was Those were the
- 40:52Speaker 1: days we.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Had things called And I think there's one here in
- 40:55Speaker 2: LA like cigarette stores. Yeah, we're literally they're just a
- 40:59Speaker 2: little it was just.
- 41:00Speaker 1: A hole in the wall whatever. Cigarettes.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Oh it's so funny. It's like, I think the one
- 41:03Speaker 2: in Padlum is called discount cigarettes. But every time I
- 41:05Speaker 2: drive by, I'm like, stay stroll.
- 41:07Speaker 1: That's the land of the Free and the home of
- 41:09Speaker 1: the brave right there. One of the last the fruited plane. Well,
- 41:13Speaker 1: you're also in Fallout, Do you want to tell us
- 41:15Speaker 1: a little bit about.
- 41:16Speaker 3: That, John jpm season two, Yes, you've got a really
- 41:22Speaker 3: huge role.
- 41:24Speaker 1: I mean Billboard's skydiving. It's lowered on wires. We said earlier.
- 41:30Speaker 3: I did get to do a stunt, but I didn't
- 41:34Speaker 3: do the falling down part. I got to do the
- 41:36Speaker 3: beginning part where the congresswoman gets pushed down the stairs,
- 41:40Speaker 3: the steps of the building that they're outside protesting. But
- 41:44Speaker 3: these two extremely cute stunt guys held on to me.
- 41:49Speaker 3: So they're playing the guards who pushed me down.
- 41:52Speaker 1: How cute? Sorry, could you just describe them a little like.
- 41:55Speaker 3: A dream body?
- 41:56Speaker 1: Cute?
- 41:57Speaker 3: One of them I worked with before.
- 41:59Speaker 1: His name just you have a long relationship with him.
- 42:02Speaker 3: I hadn't seen him since twenty sixteen, and I was
- 42:05Speaker 3: so happy to see him. And it's like and the
- 42:09Speaker 3: other one I think might have been a little man's
- 42:13Speaker 3: rights activist vibe.
- 42:14Speaker 2: However, because he actually pushed you down the stairs.
- 42:17Speaker 3: He pushed me down some stairs before the camera was rolling,
- 42:20Speaker 3: it's wrong.
- 42:21Speaker 2: I think it's wrong. Michael might feel Michael might disagree,
- 42:25Speaker 2: but I think that's wrong.
- 42:27Speaker 3: He he But it's like firemen were.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Where they push you down the stairs where they push.
- 42:32Speaker 3: You down, they go. Get out of the way of
- 42:34Speaker 3: this fire, ma'am.
- 42:35Speaker 4: It's not about you start making it about you.
- 42:39Speaker 1: We're deep stairs boots. We could do it. We could
- 42:45Speaker 1: do ue. You're not supposed to owe her before you're
- 42:51Speaker 1: going to go to rakers. I think that's the other
- 42:55Speaker 1: vocal stem we could do for euphoria. I don't know
- 42:58Speaker 1: if you have a way to contact them, but we
- 43:00Speaker 1: could probably.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Just drop them a line.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Drop the line type with your nails.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Click clocking. I do think of your voice in my
- 43:10Speaker 3: head saying Diva every day when I'm doing something that
- 43:13Speaker 3: I'm messing up, I'm like Diva just the.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Water everywhere people people reach out to me and they
- 43:21Speaker 1: say that they talk to their pets that way.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:24Speaker 1: When the dog is, you know, eating ship, they're like, diepo,
- 43:27Speaker 1: you're not supposed to do that. Eat a pool.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Thank God, that's the one one thing my crazy dog
- 43:33Speaker 3: doesn't do. Yeah, because some things do like to thank God.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I would I would have to put her down. I
- 43:41Speaker 3: would never, just would never.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Because last week we had Peta on the show, we
- 43:46Speaker 1: had a spokesperson forst Me to come out and talk
- 43:48Speaker 1: to us. About Vintage first, so I know it was
- 43:51Speaker 1: actually great. Okay, I loved it. It's actually it dropped
- 43:54Speaker 1: the day we're recording, so today I really loved it.
- 43:58Speaker 2: It was fun Peter billboards that were like they drew
- 44:03Speaker 2: animals but with really sexy human bodies. Yeah, yeah, so weird.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I just know. I walked past a PETA office
- 44:11Speaker 3: one time somewhere in LA and there were grewsome color
- 44:16Speaker 3: photos on the window of the office and I said,
- 44:19Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. I'll never be joining PETA if you
- 44:22Speaker 3: have to look at that stuff.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yes, kat we asked her about that. We were like what.
- 44:27Speaker 1: She was like, yeah, we have to look at it
- 44:29Speaker 1: all the time.
- 44:29Speaker 2: I can't.
- 44:30Speaker 1: I couldn't, And I can't follow them on Instagram either,
- 44:32Speaker 1: because I'm like, this is going to keep coming up
- 44:34Speaker 1: on my feet. I don't want to see that.
- 44:36Speaker 3: I do like, I donate to the Humane Society, and
- 44:39Speaker 3: specifically the Nebraska one. What's the famous city in Nebraska, Omaha, Omaha.
- 44:46Speaker 3: They have a shelter there and they have a great
- 44:49Speaker 3: social media account, so I started donating to them.
- 44:52Speaker 1: You've got a little rescue pets at home.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Yeah, my two cats came from a shelter in Austin,
- 44:57Speaker 3: and then Macy came from a shelter in called One Park,
- 45:01Speaker 3: which is temporarily closed because everybody got distemper, which is why.
- 45:08Speaker 1: The pets are the people who worked there, the people.
- 45:11Speaker 3: No, the pets, all the dogs. Yeah wow, So and
- 45:15Speaker 3: raccoons carry it. So we had a big fat raccoon,
- 45:18Speaker 3: which is my favorite kind, on the back fence a
- 45:21Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago, and I was terrified of my dog.
- 45:25Speaker 3: She was trying to get it, and like, oh, yeah,
- 45:27Speaker 3: they carry distemper and it's like a tragic So I'm
- 45:32Speaker 3: just bringing everybody down for no reason, but.
- 45:35Speaker 2: It needs to be discussed.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a scary. So but I got her there
- 45:40Speaker 3: in two days before Christmas in twenty twenty three. It
- 45:44Speaker 3: was heartbroken about losing my longtime dog Rosie, and then
- 45:49Speaker 3: met Macy and like, yeah, well at first I was
- 45:54Speaker 3: scared of her. She's quite big and she was just
- 45:56Speaker 3: silently staring, sitting in her kennels, daring and sometimes dogs
- 46:01Speaker 3: are very still before they snap. Yeah, so when I
- 46:05Speaker 3: approached her, I say.
- 46:06Speaker 1: That about you. They did crap me for.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Thee You're going to snap.
- 46:10Speaker 1: This whole time we actually we had like a full
- 46:13Speaker 1: meeting before I'm serious. The producers pulled me aside and
- 46:16Speaker 1: they were like, she does slash out, so like, please
- 46:18Speaker 1: make her over. We're going to see you across the
- 46:20Speaker 1: table from she cobbles people up. But yeah, she were
- 46:25Speaker 1: afraid she was going to snap at you. Yeah, she's
- 46:27Speaker 1: and you're also really tall. You're like six four six.
- 46:30Speaker 3: I'm actually seven feet tall. A lot of people don't
- 46:33Speaker 3: know that because it isn't true, but but I am.
- 46:38Speaker 3: And I was scared, and I approached her and I
- 46:41Speaker 3: said are you Is this a friendly stare or what
- 46:46Speaker 3: are you doing? And I got close and she didn't growl,
- 46:49Speaker 3: so and she put her nose up, so I petted
- 46:51Speaker 3: her and then I was like, she's sweet. She's way
- 46:55Speaker 3: too big for me. And she's a shepherd husky mix.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Oh that's cute, really big, She's really she's really sweet,
- 47:03Speaker 3: but a giant, a gentle giant. But I walked I
- 47:06Speaker 3: walked away. I was like, okay, maybe, but she's really
- 47:08Speaker 3: too big. And when I walked away, she started whining.
- 47:11Speaker 3: So I went back and yeah, and petted her more
- 47:15Speaker 3: and then said, okay, you're on the short list, and
- 47:18Speaker 3: the only other dog that I felt the connection to.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Not the Pygmy girl.
- 47:25Speaker 3: There was a froggy looking little bulldog mix just sitting
- 47:31Speaker 3: in her a little kennel, and I wanted her, but
- 47:35Speaker 3: my counts would bully a small dog, so I got Macy.
- 47:38Speaker 2: I mean it's so hard to go to the pound though,
- 47:41Speaker 2: and walk around looking at dogs. Yeah, with depression, it's
- 47:45Speaker 2: the worst thing in the world. Yeah, Luckily that that shelter.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Why I love them so much is because they they
- 47:53Speaker 2: had a lot, They have a lot of adoption events.
- 47:55Speaker 2: They were having one that day and there were a
- 47:57Speaker 2: bunch of empty kennels because dogs had gotten adopted. And
- 48:00Speaker 2: then they don't try to.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Can I do something insane?
- 48:04Speaker 3: I'm sorry, are you tuxting Donald Trump?
- 48:09Speaker 2: Buddy?
- 48:09Speaker 3: I don't know. Listen, buddy.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Sorry, that's like real life immigration law right there. No important,
- 48:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Sometime yeah, it's other lawyers sometimes call me
- 48:18Speaker 1: and they're like, and it's about someone who's like getting deported.
- 48:21Speaker 1: So I just have to like be available. Yes, you
- 48:24Speaker 1: can happen. I'm sorry.
- 48:25Speaker 3: I'm so glad that you do that. Michael. I admire
- 48:28Speaker 3: what you do.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Thank you. I will say we were going to talk
- 48:31Speaker 1: about this.
- 48:31Speaker 2: If you stormed off just like get.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Fucked, I'm so sorry story and I have its silence,
- 48:37Speaker 1: which means that they had been calling. But people have
- 48:41Speaker 1: been saying that to me a lot lately. I'm just like,
- 48:43Speaker 1: thank you for doing this, like thank you for this work,
- 48:45Speaker 1: and I like, I don't know, I feel that I've
- 48:48Speaker 1: been I've been like grappling with what to do with
- 48:50Speaker 1: that because I've never really been thanked this much before
- 48:53Speaker 1: in my life. But I just don't know what to
- 48:55Speaker 1: do with I'm just not used to gratitude. I think
- 48:57Speaker 1: just I've always just been the help or the doer,
- 48:59Speaker 1: the the fix it man, and I don't know, it's
- 49:03Speaker 1: been like affecting me emotionally, so like you said that,
- 49:05Speaker 1: and I just like had to bring it up. I
- 49:06Speaker 1: just like I see all the things that other people
- 49:11Speaker 1: are doing to support me and the work, just the Internet,
- 49:14Speaker 1: people volunteering, people getting involved, and it's really it is
- 49:19Speaker 1: like making me emotional because people saying like thank you
- 49:23Speaker 1: for the work that you do that hasn't happened for
- 49:25Speaker 1: the past nine years and I've been like doing immcretion
- 49:28Speaker 1: law for that long and I've been going to court
- 49:31Speaker 1: and like it's just very moving, not from like a
- 49:34Speaker 1: personal I need the gratitude in order to feel satisfied perspective,
- 49:37Speaker 1: but like I feel it feels like you've been working
- 49:42Speaker 1: towards a thing. Maybe this is what you feel like
- 49:44Speaker 1: in your career, like you've started getting these roles, like
- 49:47Speaker 1: not when you were nineteen, but like later, and it's
- 49:51Speaker 1: like it's just like fucking vindicating and validating to be
- 49:53Speaker 1: like fuck, like I have been on the right path
- 49:56Speaker 1: or like doing the good work. And it's it's very
- 50:00Speaker 1: motivating for me to get out of bed and have
- 50:03Speaker 1: a crush of people be like you got this, like
- 50:06Speaker 1: great work. I'm so happy to see that you're doing
- 50:08Speaker 1: that that I've never had to navigate this space with that.
- 50:15Speaker 1: So it's like, whoa, this is so new and exciting
- 50:18Speaker 1: and invigorating. But it's also like it's new, it's just
- 50:22Speaker 1: processing a new emotion that I just never really had before.
- 50:24Speaker 3: It's also probably or maybe if I don't know if
- 50:28Speaker 3: you can relate, it's overwhelming to have people be really
- 50:33Speaker 3: nice and supportive when you have gotten used to a
- 50:37Speaker 3: life where people, maybe your family or something, are more stoic. Yes,
- 50:42Speaker 3: like mine were that way. And it's not that they
- 50:44Speaker 3: didn't love and support me, but boy, they hated to
- 50:47Speaker 3: say it out loud.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Are you are you Irish?
- 50:50Speaker 3: Yes, my dad's Catholic.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you're Scottish.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah. If my dad's proud of me, he has
- 50:55Speaker 2: to tell my sister to tell me.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Yes.
- 50:58Speaker 2: They can't do it directly that Michael. It's like the
- 51:00Speaker 2: situation that everyone finds themselves in is so frightening and
- 51:06Speaker 2: cinematic and insane. And I mean, and that's just us
- 51:10Speaker 2: who are lucky enough to be observing it from the outside.
- 51:14Speaker 2: So then to watch you just like blaze through the
- 51:16Speaker 2: center of it with like Diva, don't go to rikers.
- 51:20Speaker 2: It is this kind of thing of like that you
- 51:22Speaker 2: represent people who are who are dedicated and have been
- 51:26Speaker 2: dedicated thanklessly to like actually help and do something. And
- 51:31Speaker 2: I think it's like just to be even ye to
- 51:33Speaker 2: be able to tell.
- 51:34Speaker 1: You I want to correct the record. I'm doing it
- 51:36Speaker 1: with y'all, like I am doing this, like with the
- 51:39Speaker 1: support and guidance of the people that follow me, the
- 51:41Speaker 1: people that reach out to me, Like that is what
- 51:44Speaker 1: gets me to that place where I can say dipa
- 51:46Speaker 1: and go to court and deal with something horrific and
- 51:50Speaker 1: then push it away and go back to life where
- 51:53Speaker 1: I have people who are supportive of me, who are
- 51:55Speaker 1: telling me that stuff, like it really is a collective,
- 51:58Speaker 1: Like I do not work alone, and there are so
- 52:00Speaker 1: many people that support what I do in ways I
- 52:03Speaker 1: will never meet them and I will never know them,
- 52:04Speaker 1: and I won't know what they do because they're a
- 52:07Speaker 1: translator somewhere, or there's someone who is a stenographer or working,
- 52:11Speaker 1: Like you don't realize the people that volunteer for a
- 52:14Speaker 1: nonprofit a thousand miles away who did the work intake
- 52:17Speaker 1: with that homeless migrant who ends up a year later
- 52:20Speaker 1: on my desk, Like it's just my You don't realize,
- 52:23Speaker 1: and I don't realize, so it's like thank you. However, Comma,
- 52:30Speaker 1: it's with everyone else, Like this is not like Michael
- 52:33Speaker 1: did this alone, and I never want anyone to think that.
- 52:36Speaker 2: No, no, But also you're so supportive. We talked about
- 52:40Speaker 2: Minneapolis one day on My Favorite Murder because we were
- 52:43Speaker 2: just like, we have to talk about this, so we
- 52:46Speaker 2: have to say it out loud and people have to
- 52:48Speaker 2: be continue talking about it. And later that day Michael
- 52:52Speaker 2: texted me, Hey, reach out if you.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Need anything else.
- 52:55Speaker 2: It was so embarrassing. I was like, this story I
- 52:59Speaker 2: was not trying to get across to the audience, was
- 53:01Speaker 2: that this is really hard for me. But it was
- 53:03Speaker 2: like the idea that a man in the front lines
- 53:06Speaker 2: is like, hey, let me know if you need it.
- 53:08Speaker 2: It's like, nope, I don't. I don't mean any That.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Was just like, I don't know. That's the care network.
- 53:12Speaker 1: We just take care of each other in my life.
- 53:15Speaker 3: It's great, It's really sweet.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're there entertaining me through it all when
- 53:20Speaker 1: I'm watching fall Out in bed, playing games on my
- 53:22Speaker 1: phone in the middle center in the middle of America.
- 53:28Speaker 1: It's a crazy show.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a crazy show. And can I just say
- 53:32Speaker 3: one thing about the immigration stuff and how how painful
- 53:37Speaker 3: it is and how enraging it is. During his first term,
- 53:41Speaker 3: when there was a picture of Pence standing outside of
- 53:46Speaker 3: a chain link fence with a crowd of adult male
- 53:51Speaker 3: immigrants who were in this behind this fence, acting like
- 53:54Speaker 3: it was just they weren't human, just standing there with
- 53:58Speaker 3: the attitude of because people a lot of people focus
- 54:02Speaker 3: on like, well, there's women, and there's kids, and there's
- 54:04Speaker 3: families and that's to try and reach people who don't
- 54:07Speaker 3: have empathy. But an adult man, even a men's rans activists,
- 54:15Speaker 3: no one deserves to be treated like that. And and
- 54:20Speaker 3: I can't. I just can't handle the way. I couldn't
- 54:23Speaker 3: handle being immersed in that. Even if it was to
- 54:27Speaker 3: help people, it would it would drag me down because
- 54:30Speaker 3: it effing enrages me. And I know that people who
- 54:34Speaker 3: do the work that you do have to have some
- 54:37Speaker 3: It's like therapists, you have to have some way to
- 54:39Speaker 3: protect yourself so you can help people. And like veterinarians
- 54:43Speaker 3: and anybody who I mean, I don't know, I said
- 54:46Speaker 3: veterinarians instead of human doctors. Listen, get me off my soapbox,
- 54:53Speaker 3: edit this up.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Are going to blow up the internet with your attack
- 54:56Speaker 2: on veterinarians.
- 54:57Speaker 1: But it's like people, everyone personality can help in the
- 55:03Speaker 1: fight somehow, Like it doesn't just have to be like people.
- 55:06Speaker 1: I think I get a lot of the attention because
- 55:08Speaker 1: I am loud and I am fearless, and I go
- 55:11Speaker 1: and I do it. But again it's this like crush
- 55:15Speaker 1: the mob of people behind us who are really thrusting
- 55:18Speaker 1: us to the front, and then we're just kind of
- 55:20Speaker 1: like the appers. We're learning our lines and we go
- 55:22Speaker 1: in front of the judgment to that.
- 55:23Speaker 2: And it's the benefit of having the Irish Catholic parents
- 55:26Speaker 2: who don't reward you, because then you're the kind of
- 55:28Speaker 2: person that's like, I'll get my reward and I'll work
- 55:31Speaker 2: and no one will ever thank me, and I'll not
- 55:33Speaker 2: only survive, I'll thrive.
- 55:35Speaker 1: I'll choose a career where there's literally winners and losers.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Yeah, like we have like yes, and you've won, Martha Kelly,
- 55:42Speaker 2: you have won.
- 55:44Speaker 1: So we actually asked you here today to read a
- 55:47Speaker 1: text message from my ex boyfriend in your sort of
- 55:50Speaker 1: terrifying voice. We thought it would be good for a
- 55:52Speaker 1: couple of dramatic readings, so if you could, you don't
- 55:55Speaker 1: have to learn the lines.
- 55:56Speaker 2: It's okay, I love that it, but we would love
- 55:58Speaker 2: you to be off book if possible.
- 56:00Speaker 3: Great, give me, give me thirty thirty minutes to four
- 56:04Speaker 3: hours and I'll be off book.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Here's the first text.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Do you want me to just told it?
- 56:10Speaker 1: And this is so for context. This is a text
- 56:13Speaker 1: I got for my ex boyfriend after it's been about
- 56:16Speaker 1: I want to say ten years.
- 56:19Speaker 3: I'm mad, already already mad, Okay, please, you.
- 56:25Speaker 2: Had put it down into your vase.
- 56:27Speaker 3: Okay, grow a flower of rape?
- 56:30Speaker 1: What what acting coaches that? That's the kill garriff?
- 56:34Speaker 3: Still a kill garriffs. Okay, Hey, Michael, I know it's
- 56:40Speaker 3: been ages, but I wanted to let you know that
- 56:42Speaker 3: I saw what you're up to, and I'm so glad
- 56:44Speaker 3: you finally found your thing in life.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Dad savage right wild?
- 56:50Speaker 3: Just an absolute sea word.
- 56:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 56:53Speaker 3: I don't know if you guys cuss on this, so
- 56:55Speaker 3: I'm not cussing, but.
- 56:57Speaker 2: It sounds like a passive, aggressive Midwestern how wife is.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I'm so glad you finally found.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Your finally found your thing.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Like I was walking around, shoes off, wandering into the
- 57:10Speaker 1: cigarette store, and now.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Your thing is that you knit hats for dogs or something. Yeah, no, fans, Martha.
- 57:17Speaker 1: I know that is a huge part of your career
- 57:19Speaker 1: and you built this prolific knit hatting.
- 57:22Speaker 3: I have a loom at home and it's just for dogs.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Okay, And then can you read the Milania Christmas book quote? No,
- 57:31Speaker 1: it's not a touch screen. Honting. Diva was serious about
- 57:38Speaker 1: the typewriter. That's how we booked her.
- 57:42Speaker 3: Oh, Malarnia.
- 57:45Speaker 1: Okay, what do you call her movie?
- 57:47Speaker 3: I call her Melopia, Millarnia, Melopia consentos in the dark
- 57:55Speaker 3: does he wear night vision goggles that make every tin green?
- 57:59Speaker 3: I bet he's like that because Santa likes green. First
- 58:04Speaker 3: of all, he wears red.
- 58:06Speaker 1: Sorry, no, this is a clip for context. I gave
- 58:14Speaker 1: no setup for this. For context. This is a viral
- 58:17Speaker 1: clip of Milania reading a Christmas book that when completely
- 58:21Speaker 1: people lost their minds. This is a couple months ago,
- 58:24Speaker 1: but it is.
- 58:25Speaker 2: So, it is real.
- 58:26Speaker 1: It's real.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Yeah, in the Dark is real.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's a children's book.
- 58:31Speaker 3: Santa can turn into fire. But she says he likes green,
- 58:35Speaker 3: and I'm just saying you're wrong. It's red. But anyway,
- 58:38Speaker 3: it goes on or heat the vision goggles, and I'm sorry,
- 58:42Speaker 3: I'm about do a terrible accent.
- 58:43Speaker 2: I thought it was great.
- 58:45Speaker 3: Oh wait, she got me because okay, or heat vision
- 58:48Speaker 3: goggles because he might like read better. She got me.
- 58:53Speaker 3: Santa goes up the chimney the same way he goes down,
- 58:57Speaker 3: and I have no idea how he does that. Okay,
- 59:00Speaker 3: there's no way he goes up the same way he
- 59:02Speaker 3: comes down. No, he can't.
- 59:04Speaker 1: You would just walk, just walk out the door.
- 59:07Speaker 3: And when you go down, you simply let gravity take you.
- 59:10Speaker 3: If he's going up helm, you simply let gravity.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Driven into the basement. Every time he's going the same.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Way he's flying a four story house, he's gravity is
- 59:20Speaker 1: sucking him down.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Why is Malona even Malonia even talking about this.
- 59:24Speaker 3: Though, because she's a banana.
- 59:29Speaker 1: No one in that family should be allowed around children.
- 59:32Speaker 2: The holidays are like at that house, just people blathering
- 59:34Speaker 2: about with the.
- 59:35Speaker 1: White Christmas trees.
- 59:38Speaker 3: Yeah, or he the vision goggle. Get out of here,
- 59:42Speaker 3: get out of the Christmas party.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Beautiful reading. Thank you Mary. Do you have anything you
- 59:51Speaker 1: want to plug? I mean I talked a bit about
- 59:53Speaker 1: the shows. Anything you want to make sure that we
- 59:56Speaker 1: know about? Fore Head corner and that's on your.
- 59:59Speaker 3: TikTok is Martha Kelly Tiktac.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Yes, which is your Christian name?
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: Yes, Martha Kelly TikTok.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: And you don't have to work because you're from the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: TikTok Empire.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: I am, and I and people your age don't know this.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: And Karen's younger than me too, so I don't know
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: if you remember this. When tik TACs hit the scene,
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: you could not contain the excitement of a child, little
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: plastic box with mens in it, the way we went bananas.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: We called it Grandma's Gold.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: She always had something in her purse.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: That was so weird, that is insane.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: You just could never understand CERTs TikTok, the Mints and
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Grandma's purse. Yeah, it would bust you out of like
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: true like a nine am mass malaise.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: In church, the Mints really kept you going.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: They really Yeah, wait, should I hand this back to you? Sure?
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: But before Tiktoks, all Mints came in little rolls like
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: SERTs and Life Savers. And then Tiktoks made made their debut.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Yeah, the market wide open.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: It was so exciting.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: So you can follow her, Martha Kelly, TikTok On TikTok.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Yeah. And then so Euphour You comes out April twelfth,
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: and then a movie called Poetic License, which I have
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: a special place in my heart for and not just
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: because I got to be in it is the stunts
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: I got to do that comes out May fifteenth, and
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: it stars never mind because I will get the name,
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: one of the names.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: We're going to throw them up on the screen for
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: you with your mouth.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to do We're gonna it stars Nicole Kidman,
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: The Stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman and their reunion debut.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Eyes two more Masks.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: I tried, which by the way, I twice have tried
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: to watch that movie, and each time it gets to
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: a point where I say, what, how is this a thing?
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Like? My eyes are snap shut for this one?
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: I fell asleep both times. Is actually is God's honest truth?
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Are you? Are you asleeping early?
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Yeah? I can't. I don't watch TV until the end
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: of the evening and then I fall asleep within forty
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: five minutes.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: The exact opposite of what doctors say to do about
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: say they don't watch Blue Light right before bed, and
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: you say, you know what, you know what.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: You can't tell me what to do?
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: That's right, tell me what to do next. I have
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: a tattoo that says that, and I showed it to
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: in the car once you did.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: I love it?
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Lower back?
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: I do sorry, we tell I do. Want to just
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: clarify that the Men's the men's rights activist, potentially other
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: stunt guy, was perfectly nice to me. It was just
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: a vibe, but like firemen. It doesn't matter if they're
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: sexist or chauven is because you feel like they're saving
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: your life.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: So they pushed me, but how long to the coda
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: was wearing to keep me from falling? And I was
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: in love with both of them anyway. I just wanted
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: to clarify, not to disparage him. It was just a vibe.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: It was a vibe.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: But then you had to like truly trust. It was
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: like a trust fall where they could have done some
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: damage wres.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: But but I've been on twice. I've gotten to be
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: on a wire and terrifying and then thrilling, and you
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: want to do it all the time.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Really does it hurt? I feel like the harness is
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: kind of.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: Like you have to wear basically long John's and a
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: long sleeve shirt so that the harness doesn't dig into
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: your skin, but it's padded and stuff. And then I
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: just wanted to be a witch flying through the trees.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: After the initial are you sure this isn't going to break?
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: This doesn't I'm not. I'm scared what's happening? And then
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: it was like get me, get me up in the tree.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Yes, what was that role?
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: One of them I can't talk about yet, and that
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: which is I'm so sorry, we love it. I hate
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: when people do the secret secret. I've got a secret.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: It's good marketing, Martha.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: But the other one was for Spider Man Homecoming, which
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: is what I know Jess from. So I was on
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: a wire and the elevator drops from under me, and
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: it truly only dropped three feet and the way that
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: I literally did cry the first take because I thought
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: I was going to die, and like, she's so good.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: It didn't even show you how far I was going
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to drop. They're like, let's just let's just take.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: I think she's going to die.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: It really was like so much reassurance that this is
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: not even if it broke. Even if the wire broke,
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: you'd fall two and a half feet, but also it
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: isn't going to break, but it falls. And then Jess
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: and another guy playing security guards pull me up, but
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: I'm on a wire, so they're not really pulling me.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Oh, So the wire was really for them because I
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: didn't want them to have to keep lifting you.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm also like, it would be super dangerous to
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: rely on people grabbing your hands to pull you up. Yeah,
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: it would have I would not have done it without
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: a wire, but I was still scared.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: But just you're scared of open elevator shafts. That's crazy.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's weird. It's a childhood fear.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: First time we really heard about that on the show.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: So yeah, avoid them. I mean, I don't want to
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: tell people how to live, but avoid empty elevator shafts.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: Don't step into them. Whatever you do, you know, avoid them.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: And that is our that's going to be our major
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: takeaway advice from this episode is to avoid open elevator shafts.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: We so appreciate you. I mean, you're famous for your
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: your real life practical advice around elevator shafts, and I'm
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: just so appreciative that you came on the show and
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: share that with us. So you can catch Martha Kelly
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: anywhere you get comic books and this has been for
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: head Corner.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Thank you for having me, Michael, it was so great
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: to meet you, and Karen as always great to see you.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Martha, You're number one, your number one.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: So this is tell us from the Dams. Remember, while
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: I am a lawyer, i am not your lawyer, So
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: all my answers are for entertainment purposes only. Always consult
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: a local lawyer. They will know your situation, your state,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: and your law is better than I will.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Hi, Michael and Melissa, A quick question for you guys.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: I live in Texas and I heard the Ice might
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: be targeting a festival that's happening up here soon, and
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: it made me nervous. I actually own a festival that
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: has it's like medium size, ten to fifteen thousand people
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: over a couple of weekends. If ICE happens to show
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: up at it, am I allowed to bar them entry.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: It is a ticketed event, so it is closed in
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: except for those you know, ticket booth entry spots, so
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: there is like a way to block But I just
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: don't know if we're legally allowed to. The grounds are
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: not owned by us. We rent them from a local
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: nonprofit that does own the land. Also, aside from that,
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: are we allowed to make an official announcement and let
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: people know the ICE is there or help them hide
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: or get off the grounds?
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: What's legally allowed?
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: You guys appreciate it, really, you love the show nice.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Thank you so much for calling. What an interesting question.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: This is like a unique situation because the grounds are
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: leased and borrowed from a nonprofit. It sounds like so
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: to answer sort of like the question and order, I
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: would say, can you legally bar ice entry at ticket gates?
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: And the answer is yes, Like generally it's yes, they're
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: allowed in if they have a judicial warrant or some
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: sort of like legal basis. Like I would say, if
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: like someone was fleeing the scene of a crime and
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: they're chasing the perpetrator into that area, then yes, but
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: generally no, and that would be the for the police.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: So no ice is not allowed, so you absolutely can.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: How it applies to ticket gates, a gated, ticketed entrance
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: is part of a controlled access property. So if the
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: access is limited to ticket holders and staff, then you
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: have a stronger argument if you do bar ice from entering,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: because it's not a public area, right, It's not like
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: a public federally owned park in the middle of the city, right,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: So technically it is more of like a like a
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: private property in that regard, so they wouldn't be able
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: to enter without a judicial warrant. Things you should not
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: do are physically block, shove, touch officers, or get into
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: it with agents. Just thinking from like a safety perspective,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I want you to be safe. I want your staff
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: to be safe, even if you think they're kind of
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: like overstepping, I would advise you personally and your team
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: to sort of hold back and even if you believe
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: they're breaking the law and the rules, I just don't
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: want anyone getting hurt and I don't want any of
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: your staff or you getting detained. So that is sort
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: of how I would sort of share what you do there.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: The best practices if you are at the gate is
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: have like a trained lawn enforcement liaison, sort of like
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: the person on your team. Maybe it's you, maybe it's
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: someone you trust who's like the GM or head of security,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: who's going to be the point person if there is
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: any ice presence. So and if it is you or
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: someone on your team is listening to this, I would say,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: make sure they ask for ID from the officer and
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: for the warrant or paperwork, and really read what they
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: hand you, right, you don't want to just like take
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: it at face value. Look specifically for a judge's signature
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: on that warrant, because if it's not judicial, then you
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: can state and like this is something you can memorize.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: You could say, like I do not consent to you
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: entering and make sure that like someone sort of got
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: that recorded on film. Can you make an announcement if
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: there is ice presence there? Yeah, generally yes you can
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: because it's part of like a security You can say
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: federal agents are present at the front gate, like that
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: is absolutely something that it's typically not illegal by itself,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: but it does get kind of risky if the announcement
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: is framed or coordinated in a way to sort of
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: like help specific people evade the laws. So like a
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: general announcement is going to be safer rather than saying, like, hey,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: if you are undocumented, I know there are X number
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: of undocumented people here or whatever. That is where we
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: sort of teeter over into the area of obstruction of
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: justice and evading evasion, aiding evasion. That is such a
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: weird like bucket of vowels. Even if it is sort
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: of like technically First Amendment protected speech, your operational steps
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: around it can kind of create exposure legally. So I
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: would just keep it really general. Let people know just
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: like as a general, FYI sharing this information that there
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: are federal agents here at the front gate, or there
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: could be potential presence, especially since you said, you know
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: that there is more of an ice presence in Texas,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: but thank you for Thank you for sending in a question.
