Speaker 4: What a difference today makes from the weather standpoint, yesterday's

Speaker 4: the show, Sendor Glenn Jefferies, Good morning, sure, welcome to
2:38
Speaker 4: the show.
2:38
Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave, and thank you for having me, Thank
2:40
Speaker 6: you for being a kind nasty outside it is there's
2:43
Speaker 6: a little challenge driving up here, so but you're here.
2:45
Speaker 4: I'm here. That's all that matters. That's all that matters.
2:47
Speaker 4: We can go Cener in a number of different directions
2:50
Speaker 4: this morning, but I want to start with the interims
2:53
Speaker 4: that just wrapped up. Of course, there was the battle
2:56
Speaker 4: for the Senate presidency that's already been decided, but just
2:59
Speaker 4: talk about what some of some of your takeaways from
3:01
Speaker 4: the interims.
3:03
Speaker 6: The I think our interims, you know, we're looking at
3:07
Speaker 6: what's going to be coming up with this session and
3:10
Speaker 6: what opportunities that we're gonna have to be looking at,
3:14
Speaker 6: you know, with the new executive branch that's going to
3:17
Speaker 6: be coming in.
3:18
Speaker 4: Uh so it uh.
3:21
Speaker 6: I think we had a good set of interims. Learned
3:23
Speaker 6: a lot of information about some stuff that we're going
3:26
Speaker 6: to have to be looking at, uh, you know, as
3:28
Speaker 6: far as you know the thing out there like with p.
3:31
Speaker 7: E I A, with.
3:34
Speaker 6: Some of the other regulatory stuff that we need to
3:38
Speaker 6: be looking at for uh, you know, as far as
3:40
Speaker 6: promoting economic development.
3:42
Speaker 4: And that's really one of the reasons why I want
3:44
Speaker 4: to have you here was to talk about economic development.
3:47
Speaker 4: There was talk that there was going to be a
3:48
Speaker 4: special session uh to kind of coincide with the interims.
3:52
Speaker 4: That didn't That didn't happen. You care to weigh in
3:54
Speaker 4: on that, Well, yeah, we were.
3:57
Speaker 6: We had been working with a company that you know, Dave,
4:01
Speaker 6: you know, I'm still under an NDA with right over.
4:04
Speaker 6: These companies understand the cats out and you know, people
4:08
Speaker 6: they can pretty well visualize who it may be but
4:11
Speaker 6: about six months ago I had met with them and
4:15
Speaker 6: had approached them, I want to make sure that everyone
4:17
Speaker 6: stands at We approached them about this particular kind of
4:21
Speaker 6: about bringing economic development here, and so we've been working
4:24
Speaker 6: together for about six months and.
4:27
Speaker 4: They came to us and said, hey, here, we've got
4:30
Speaker 4: a project. We think we have a project here.
4:32
Speaker 2: But to get this.
4:33
Speaker 6: Project moving forward, there's certain pieces of legislation that will
4:37
Speaker 6: have to be in place, and this is one of them.
4:40
Speaker 6: It basically was going to take the twenty twenty two
4:45
Speaker 6: legislation that we did for the micro grids, and it
4:47
Speaker 6: was going to add an additional micro grid in one
4:51
Speaker 6: of the regulated territories and then add three in another one,
4:56
Speaker 6: and it was increasing the.
4:58
Speaker 4: Size of what the microgrid would be.
5:02
Speaker 6: It was an opportunity that was presented, and uh, I
5:07
Speaker 6: believe that everyone would will win out this.
5:10
Speaker 4: You know this, it's not dead. That's that's what I
5:13
Speaker 4: wanted to jump into just one minute, Senator, to make
5:15
Speaker 4: people make sure people realize this thing. It didn't it's
5:18
Speaker 4: not it's not dead. And there was sort of a
5:21
Speaker 4: procedural issue, for lack of a better term, on our part,
5:24
Speaker 4: our meaning the state, the government whatever, so it's on it.
5:28
Speaker 4: It didn't happen during the special session. However, this project
5:32
Speaker 4: and this company, whatever it is, they are still interested in.
5:35
Speaker 4: This project is not dead. The project's not dead.
5:38
Speaker 6: But we need to we need to move at their speed.
5:42
Speaker 6: And you know, these these type of businesses that are
5:45
Speaker 6: looking across the country. Uh, we're we're not on our
5:49
Speaker 6: own timeline, We're on their timeline. When they make a decision,
5:52
Speaker 6: we need to we need to react to it. And
5:55
Speaker 6: so I'm hoping that the legislation that it will be
5:59
Speaker 6: picked up here really quick and we can continue whether
6:04
Speaker 6: we can get it past and be able to move forward.
6:07
Speaker 4: What kind of things are and I know, I know
6:08
Speaker 4: you can't get into particulars, and I get that, but
6:10
Speaker 4: what are some things that sometimes have to be done
6:13
Speaker 4: And just speak broadly here, senator, what are some things
6:16
Speaker 4: that have to be done at times to make sure
6:18
Speaker 4: we can get these businesses here? What are you traditionally
6:21
Speaker 4: looking at with these kinds of things.
6:22
Speaker 2: What do they ask for?
6:23
Speaker 4: Well, what they look for is.
6:27
Speaker 6: What policies are in place and what regulatory part is
6:31
Speaker 6: in place depending upon what the business is. So lots
6:36
Speaker 6: of times we have to react to that. That's probably
6:39
Speaker 6: the biggest thing. And when we get that information, then
6:43
Speaker 6: we start looking at it and see what we can
6:45
Speaker 6: do with it.
6:46
Speaker 4: Talking again with Senator Glenn Jeffries and Dave aland showing
6:48
Speaker 4: five any line brought to you apart by your hometown

7:03
Speaker 4: at Dblightthnight dot com. What other things may be on
7:08
Speaker 4: their righte I know you can't get into details specifically,
7:10
Speaker 4: but what's keeping you and others that are in economic
7:13
Speaker 4: development busy these days? What are you looking at?
7:16
Speaker 6: There are a number of projects and let me let
7:19
Speaker 6: me say Dave that our Department of Economic Development, their
7:23
Speaker 6: team is the phenomenal Yeah, yeah, and they have been
7:27
Speaker 6: diligently searching and reaching out and locating companies and talking
7:33
Speaker 6: with companies. As a matter of fact, we've got a
7:35
Speaker 6: company coming in next week from Tennessee that's got about
7:39
Speaker 6: a two hundred thousand square foot manufacturing facility that has
7:43
Speaker 6: Avery has a very good interest in West Virginia, and
7:46
Speaker 6: they're gonna be coming up here to be able to
7:47
Speaker 6: meet with Cabinet Secretary Grainy, and so hopefully we can
7:53
Speaker 6: kind of surprising to be able to pull something from Tennessee.
7:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, because usually, I mean a lot of folks are
7:58
Speaker 4: going to Tennessee. I know it would be interesting to
7:59
Speaker 4: have people doing the exact opposite sod of all of
8:02
Speaker 4: us going to Gatlinburg that can come here. I know
8:04
Speaker 4: it's not Gallinburg, but I'm just using it as an example.
8:07
Speaker 4: So when we hear these announcements Senator about a lot
8:12
Speaker 4: of these companies looking at West Virginia where they come
8:15
Speaker 4: here or not actually looking at West Virginia, I get
8:17
Speaker 4: a lot of people that'll say, well, it's because of
8:19
Speaker 4: things that have happened on the federal level, you know,
8:22
Speaker 4: but whether it was the things that President Biden did
8:24
Speaker 4: or whatever, but there's a reason why they are choosing
8:29
Speaker 4: to look at West Virginia. I mean, I'm not discounting
8:32
Speaker 4: what's happened on the federal level, but these companies, a
8:35
Speaker 4: lot of them are looking at West Virginia specifically over Maine,
8:39
Speaker 4: you know, Indiana, whatever, why is that?
8:42
Speaker 6: What it takes is one company to start it, and
8:47
Speaker 6: and it started with New Core. New Core was the
8:50
Speaker 6: was the project. When New Core established and decided that
8:55
Speaker 6: they were going to put their facility in West Virginia,
8:58
Speaker 6: it just started opened up the doors for everyone. Started
9:00
Speaker 6: looking at our regulatory mark and our policies that we
9:03
Speaker 6: have in place, and it's just they see, that's like
9:07
Speaker 6: with the legislation for the time at one day, we
9:11
Speaker 6: passed that legislation for them, the back end announced with
9:13
Speaker 6: the and and you're looking at a project now that's
9:17
Speaker 6: probably getting up close to maybe a billion dollars. So
9:21
Speaker 6: that is the things that they see. They see that
9:23
Speaker 6: West Virginia is open for business and our legislatures are
9:26
Speaker 6: there and ready to be able to move.
9:28
Speaker 4: Talk about New Core, what's the latest over there?
9:32
Speaker 6: They're you know, they're still building their facility down there there.
9:37
Speaker 6: There's some talks with them about future expansion. Can't really
9:41
Speaker 6: elaborate on what that's going to be, but I do
9:44
Speaker 6: see them expanding their footprint.
9:47
Speaker 4: And I mean you and I both are Putnham County people,
9:50
Speaker 4: and we all we we see what's going on at
9:53
Speaker 4: Putnham County right now. That is directly, directly attributable to
9:56
Speaker 4: New Core with people coming in and housing and there's
9:59
Speaker 4: not enough housing. We know that townhouse is going up
10:02
Speaker 4: everywhere right down for my house, there's a big one
10:04
Speaker 4: going in and a lot of that, you know, goes
10:06
Speaker 4: directly to New Core. And and I'm sure that they're
10:09
Speaker 4: seeing the same thing in Mason County as well, which
10:11
Speaker 4: is where there where the headquarters are, where the hub
10:14
Speaker 4: of everything is going to be. Before we let you
10:17
Speaker 4: go talk about the future of West Virginia, I mean
10:19
Speaker 4: we head into a new year, it's we have a
10:22
Speaker 4: we have a new governor coming in, we'll have at
10:25
Speaker 4: least one new new senator in Washington. What does the
10:29
Speaker 4: future look like for Senator Glenn Jefferies as far as
10:32
Speaker 4: the what's your outlook for West Virginia going.
10:34
Speaker 6: For I think our outlook for for our state is
10:40
Speaker 6: we know that in West Virginia and across the country,
10:43
Speaker 6: energy is probably the number one top thing of topic
10:47
Speaker 6: of discussion UH and I think that we're going to
10:51
Speaker 6: have to look at it to see that we can
10:53
Speaker 6: maximize UH are our current regulated utilities make sure we
10:58
Speaker 6: can maximize all the power that they can build provide
11:00
Speaker 6: but also be able to work together that when these
11:03
Speaker 6: when these certain type of companies come here and they
11:06
Speaker 6: want to locate in a certain location, that there is
11:10
Speaker 6: that flexibility there to for our regulated utilities versus up
11:13
Speaker 6: with other utilities to be able to provide that load.
11:16
Speaker 4: It is necessary.
11:18
Speaker 6: And that's like the project that was going that's down
11:20
Speaker 6: in the southern part, that was one of them there
11:23
Speaker 6: that they were going to have to work together to
11:26
Speaker 6: be able to supply that load.
11:28
Speaker 4: And we got to get people into West Virginia too,
11:30
Speaker 4: because it's no secret we have we're in the oldest state.
11:34
Speaker 4: Depend on which mactric you look at, we're one of
11:35
Speaker 4: the oldest states in the nation. We just simply can't
11:38
Speaker 4: do it with the people that we have here. We've
11:40
Speaker 4: got to have an influx of people.
11:42
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that most definitely. I mean, we've got to
11:44
Speaker 6: be attracting, increasing our population and reaching out and doing
11:51
Speaker 6: whatever we can to bring new people into West Virginia.
11:54
Speaker 6: And and and I will say this day back to
11:56
Speaker 6: the energy part. You know, we got Nick Presvoti. He
12:00
Speaker 6: is the octing Cabinet Secretary and the Department of Energy's
12:03
Speaker 6: Cabinet Secretary or Commerce Secretary. I'm sorry he that guy
12:09
Speaker 6: knows what he's doing and very much appreciate he is
12:13
Speaker 6: positioned that he's in right now, and I think you're
12:15
Speaker 6: going to see a lot of good things that's going
12:17
Speaker 6: to come out that area.
12:18
Speaker 2: All right.
12:19
Speaker 4: Always pleasure to have you on the show, Sir Senator

Speaker 4: Light the night Over at Gomart Ballpark. He's the co
16:35
Speaker 4: host of the popular video series Have Fun and Now.
16:38
Speaker 4: Because he, like me, needs something else to do, He's
16:42
Speaker 4: now involved with the new Putnam County Moose Lodge, not
16:45
Speaker 4: just a place to hang out, but an organization that
16:47
Speaker 4: I know does a whole lot of good in the world.
16:50
Speaker 4: Jay Silvering joins us, Now, how are you doing? Great?
16:53
Speaker 4: And go Huskies by the way, Go Husky, Go Husky.
16:56
Speaker 4: That's great. I mean, I don't want to, and I
17:00
Speaker 4: know Joey Fields wouldn't want me to do this. I'm
17:02
Speaker 4: not going to. I'm not going to curse anything or
17:04
Speaker 4: jinx anything. But it's I think it's the husky. It's
17:07
Speaker 4: the husky still loose. I think it is. I believe
17:10
Speaker 4: it too.
17:10
Speaker 9: And just overall for what they as a school and
17:14
Speaker 9: community have gone through, oh, just fantastic.
17:16
Speaker 4: It's a great store. Huge. I mean, it is a
17:18
Speaker 4: huge story. And besides that, they kick a lot of
17:21
Speaker 4: butt on the football field too. Even even had none
17:23
Speaker 4: of that happened, this is a this is a a
17:25
Speaker 4: stellar team. And I don't know of any school in
17:28
Speaker 4: our immediate area here in the Kanaw Valley that has
17:31
Speaker 4: as rabbit of fan base what they do up on
17:33
Speaker 4: Elk River. It's fantastic. I love I love to see it.
17:37
Speaker 4: All right. So the last time that you and I
17:39
Speaker 4: got together in public, I think it's when you myself
17:42
Speaker 4: Brian Hughes storm track of thirteen. Senator Eric Nelson was there.
17:46
Speaker 4: We were asked to judge the chili contest at fall
17:48
Speaker 4: y'all in saying all buts that was a fun day.
17:50
Speaker 9: That was great. That was so much fun, and the
17:52
Speaker 9: chili was fantastic. I mean, you know, you can't go
17:54
Speaker 9: wrong with chili. I mean, there's are some bad chilies,
17:57
Speaker 9: but most of us.
17:57
Speaker 4: Pretty good. I mean it was pretty good. It was
17:59
Speaker 4: it was a good time. And food is a big
18:02
Speaker 4: part of who you are. It's to become one of
18:05
Speaker 4: your You're like me, You've got several personas, but it's
18:08
Speaker 4: kind of become one of those those that you think,
18:10
Speaker 4: Jay Silver. But do you think where's the eating today?
18:13
Speaker 4: What's the next hot dog challenge? Yes? Yes, so you'll
18:16
Speaker 4: still live in that down arn'ch of the hot dog challenge.
18:18
Speaker 4: You know it was good. I mean I know it
18:19
Speaker 4: was good. I know it's good. But but you did
18:22
Speaker 4: I don't want to say angers, but you have some
18:23
Speaker 4: people to disagreed with you, because that's what people do.
18:26
Speaker 4: Everyone has nostalgiafferent places that they love.
18:28
Speaker 9: But I mean, unless you've traveled around eaten three hundred
18:30
Speaker 9: different hot dogs in the state of West Virginia, you
18:33
Speaker 9: won't know. And if you want to, you did that.
18:35
Speaker 9: I did that in two and a half year period.
18:37
Speaker 9: Check out half Fun WV on YouTube again. It's half
18:40
Speaker 9: Fun WV and you'll see what we're talking about. It's
18:44
Speaker 9: every week, new video about either food that you really
18:46
Speaker 9: love or a hot dog somewhere you know, so you know,
18:50
Speaker 9: it's all good stuff, but.
18:51
Speaker 4: A Volancehowing five eighty line brought to you part by
18:53
Speaker 4: fresh Air Filters ob Day's Valley fresh Air You're trusted
18:55
Speaker 4: filter experts for both your home or business called three
18:58
Speaker 4: zero four four four zero one one zero four visit
19:01
Speaker 4: fresh Air Filters dot us because everyone deserves fresh air.
19:04
Speaker 3: Right.
19:05
Speaker 4: So before we get to the moose, which is why
19:06
Speaker 4: you're here today, I do want to spend a little
19:08
Speaker 4: bit of time talking about the Selango law Light the
19:10
Speaker 4: night Yeah, go mart Ballpark. Yes, it's just been off
19:14
Speaker 4: the hook.
19:14
Speaker 9: Yes, and thanks again to our partners Ben Selango and Gomart.
19:18
Speaker 9: I mean, just terrific partners to have. We've got a
19:22
Speaker 9: lot of sponsorships with people that have come out and
19:24
Speaker 9: it really has helped us a lot.
19:26
Speaker 4: We had purchased another half.
19:28
Speaker 9: Million lights, so we have two point five million lights
19:31
Speaker 9: for your enjoyment. And we've also had a couple of
19:34
Speaker 9: new rides as well. So we have our round up
19:37
Speaker 9: ride they call it, but it's kind of like a Gavtron,
19:40
Speaker 9: so it's it's pretty cool.
19:42
Speaker 4: And we have a little carousel for the kids.
19:43
Speaker 9: So I mean there's a lot going on with of course,
19:45
Speaker 9: with the Ferris wheel as well, So we got a
19:47
Speaker 9: lot a lot of that good things. Got a real
19:48
Speaker 9: ice rink, you know, it produces real lace Dave good stuff.
19:52
Speaker 9: So you know, after working put a little cocktail on
19:54
Speaker 9: it and we have you know, Mie up.
19:57
Speaker 4: We don't recommend that, by the way, we don't recomp Yeah.
20:00
Speaker 4: There he's speaking metaphorically, Okay, metaphorically, Yes, definitely. And one
20:04
Speaker 4: of the things I like about it, and then we'll
20:05
Speaker 4: move on, is the fact that you've done so many
20:07
Speaker 4: special nights there Sinceury Friendly Nightlia. You've done a great
20:12
Speaker 4: job in bringing some of the older folks as Rush
20:15
Speaker 4: used to call them, these seasoned citizens. Yes, we're down
20:17
Speaker 4: for trips and towards the of the park.
20:20
Speaker 9: Yes, we have a couple of mobility nights we call it,
20:22
Speaker 9: and we have golf carts and we'll drive them around
20:24
Speaker 9: from point A to point B to the train station.
20:26
Speaker 9: You know, we've learned a lot from last year about
20:29
Speaker 9: what people needs are, so we're trying to accommodate as
20:33
Speaker 9: much as possible. And we always have the golf carts there.
20:35
Speaker 9: So I mean, if for some reason, you know, someone
20:37
Speaker 9: does show up and needs an extra you know hand
20:40
Speaker 9: getting done around it's a very big space to walk
20:43
Speaker 9: around and a very huge display of lights.
20:45
Speaker 4: And things and lots to see.
20:47
Speaker 9: So we're more than happy to to you know, if
20:49
Speaker 9: somebody needs a ride, go to one of the guest
20:51
Speaker 9: services and we'll try to get your ride. Tw we
20:53
Speaker 9: need to go and at least one wedding proposal that
20:55
Speaker 9: we know of, right, even more than the only just
20:59
Speaker 9: the one that I that I've seen. I mean, it
21:01
Speaker 9: could happen daily. We just haven't seen or looked at
21:04
Speaker 9: any posts at all. But if you do get a proposal,
21:07
Speaker 9: please don't forget to send the hashtag to us so
21:10
Speaker 9: we know, so definitely we wan't to know if you're
21:13
Speaker 9: getting married there. Yeah, we'll find us at Charles some
21:15
Speaker 9: dirty birds, yes, all.
21:16
Speaker 4: Right, all right, So now the reason I have you
21:18
Speaker 4: here today is you've gotten yourself into the Moose business,
21:21
Speaker 4: or at least the Moose Lodge. Tell us about the
21:23
Speaker 4: Moose organization.
21:24
Speaker 9: Yes, so the Moose organization if anyone doesn't know, it's
21:26
Speaker 9: a Moose fraternity. It's a family fraternity and pretty much
21:30
Speaker 9: our mission, our national mission is to take care of
21:34
Speaker 9: the children to Moose Heart and take care of the
21:36
Speaker 9: seniors at moose Haven.
21:37
Speaker 4: So what those things are? I am yeah. So bas
21:40
Speaker 4: in other words, shut up, Daves that right. What it
21:43
Speaker 4: doesn't matter Chat. All you like is it's your show,
21:46
Speaker 4: go ahead for moose Heart.
21:48
Speaker 9: It is a one thousand acre facility that's basically down
21:53
Speaker 9: forty miles south of Chicago, and we have about thirty
21:57
Speaker 9: resident type houses where if lives in them and they
22:01
Speaker 9: can take care of what the six to twelve kids
22:03
Speaker 9: per house. So let's say you and your wife get
22:07
Speaker 9: into a car accident and you know, one of them dies,
22:09
Speaker 9: you know, unfortunately, and you.
22:11
Speaker 4: Are unable to take care of your kids.
22:13
Speaker 9: Moose Heart will in fact come and help you with
22:16
Speaker 9: your kids, house them and basically a safe and carrying,
22:21
Speaker 9: academic type community to make sure that these kids are
22:25
Speaker 9: getting well fed, getting into the education that they deserve,
22:27
Speaker 9: and still living in a family type environment.
22:29
Speaker 4: We're not orphaning kids. We're basically taking care of the children.
22:33
Speaker 4: And you know that need help.
22:35
Speaker 9: You know, if you get back on your feet, you know,
22:37
Speaker 9: and then you know, little Johnny can come back to you,
22:39
Speaker 9: so at any rate, and even if you know, sometimes
22:43
Speaker 9: grandparents are taking care of.
22:44
Speaker 4: Kids these days, great grandparents in some cases.
22:47
Speaker 9: Well see so sometimes it's too hard on those on
22:49
Speaker 9: those parents, so they can reach out to Moose Heart
22:53
Speaker 9: to the Moose, and we will help you by, you know,
22:56
Speaker 9: taking care of the little ones that you can't really
22:58
Speaker 9: take care of, you know.
22:59
Speaker 4: So we're there to.
23:00
Speaker 9: Provide a service for people that really have a need
23:02
Speaker 9: for that. So we take care of kids from different
23:06
Speaker 9: countries as well, so as well as here in the
23:09
Speaker 9: United States. So again, West Virginia does have their own
23:13
Speaker 9: resident house there, so we're very proud of that. We
23:16
Speaker 9: just had it remodeled and stuff for the kids, so
23:18
Speaker 9: it's great. Another place do we take care of this
23:21
Speaker 9: is for our seniors. So if you're a member like
23:24
Speaker 9: I am, and you are, if you're a member for
23:27
Speaker 9: up to at least fifteen years consecutive, you can go
23:30
Speaker 9: to a place called Moose Haven. So if you don't
23:33
Speaker 9: have a retirement plan, see I know you work in
23:35
Speaker 9: radio like I work in baseball, there's no real retirement
23:38
Speaker 9: for us, so we just go until we just don't
23:41
Speaker 9: go anymore. Right, So, if you're a remember for fifteen
23:45
Speaker 9: years and you're in the retirement age, I guess you
23:47
Speaker 9: could say in collecting your Social Security you can go
23:50
Speaker 9: to a place called Moose Haven and it is a
23:52
Speaker 9: place in Orange Park, Florida, which is south of Jacksonville, Florida.
23:56
Speaker 9: And basically they'll take care of all your medical needs, housing, food, lodging, everything,
24:01
Speaker 9: and they'll take care of you until you're passing.
24:04
Speaker 4: So it's a great thing for our seniors. How many
24:08
Speaker 4: people can go to that, I mean with my saying it, I.
24:10
Speaker 9: Think there we're somewhere at about probably three hundred over
24:14
Speaker 9: three hundred residents. Yeah, yeah, so it's a pretty big deal.
24:17
Speaker 9: And they're always creating new spaces out there, so it's
24:20
Speaker 9: a it is an ever growing place. It sits right
24:24
Speaker 9: there on the river, right out there outside of Jacksonville, Florida,
24:27
Speaker 9: and there's like a big deck, you know, dock you
24:30
Speaker 9: can go out on and and go fishing and things.
24:33
Speaker 4: But it's just a really beautiful little place. It's, you know,
24:36
Speaker 4: just a cool community.
24:37
Speaker 9: If you get bored, you want to work at the
24:39
Speaker 9: little post office or work at the bowling alley, you
24:41
Speaker 9: can do that as well. They have all these small
24:43
Speaker 9: things and this huge community for the folks down there.
24:46
Speaker 9: And also the coolest thing about being Putnam County, the
24:50
Speaker 9: Putnam County Lodge is we can give back to the community.
24:53
Speaker 9: So the bigger we grow, the more financially set we are,
24:58
Speaker 9: we can give money back into the community. So for like,
25:01
Speaker 9: let's say, if there's a church group that needs an
25:03
Speaker 9: extra hand, if there's a little Cindy and her cheerleading
25:08
Speaker 9: crowd once, you know, once a little extra cast, Johnny
25:11
Speaker 9: and his you know little league team needs some extra cast.
25:15
Speaker 4: For some uniforms. You know, you can, you know, send
25:17
Speaker 4: us a letter. We might be able to help you
25:18
Speaker 4: out on that.
25:18
Speaker 9: So we're here to help the community as well in
25:20
Speaker 9: the Tays Valley, Scott Depot, Hurricane area and beyond.
25:25
Speaker 4: And this is a whole new This is the reason
25:26
Speaker 4: I want to have you here too. And I appreciate
25:28
Speaker 4: you doing a great job of explaining what MOOSE is
25:31
Speaker 4: because you hear that terms and sometimes in various service organizations.
25:35
Speaker 4: I was a member of a former past president of
25:38
Speaker 4: two different rotary chapters, and I was very heavily involved
25:40
Speaker 4: in the j c's when I was younger, because it
25:42
Speaker 4: stands for Junior and Junior Chamber. I'm Senior Chamber now.
25:46
Speaker 4: But sometimes we don't do a good job of explaining
25:49
Speaker 4: what they hear the terms but they don't know exactly
25:52
Speaker 4: what it is that they do. Now there is a
25:54
Speaker 4: brand new lodge in Putnam County. That's what you're really
25:57
Speaker 4: here to talk about. And you referenced it earlier. How
25:59
Speaker 4: did this whole thing come about?
26:01
Speaker 9: Well, I was asked about two years ago if we
26:04
Speaker 9: had a potential area for growth, and I knew that
26:07
Speaker 9: the Putnam County area, there's a lot of growth down there.
26:10
Speaker 4: There's a lot of people that are living in that area.
26:13
Speaker 9: I know that we had Charleston unfortunately just closed recently
26:16
Speaker 9: their their lodge, and Nitro had closed, but a lot
26:19
Speaker 9: of people from the Putnam County were members of the
26:22
Speaker 9: Nitro Lodge and since they folded, oh Man probably been
26:27
Speaker 9: like six seven years ago, a lot of those members
26:30
Speaker 9: are don't have a home to go to, so.
26:32
Speaker 4: They're members and they pay dues.
26:34
Speaker 9: They just didn't really have a place to Yeah, yeah,
26:36
Speaker 9: because they care about the kids and the and the seniors,
26:39
Speaker 9: so they just keep paying their dues and so yeah,
26:42
Speaker 9: we decided let's open a new place, and so we
26:45
Speaker 9: decided right there at the Putnam Village, which is the.
26:49
Speaker 4: Right there by.
26:51
Speaker 9: I guess best Buy is still in the parking lot
26:53
Speaker 9: out there. But we're the old Cinema three right next
26:56
Speaker 9: to Kelly's Hotspot and Odyssey.
26:58
Speaker 4: So for let me, let me to break this down
27:00
Speaker 4: West Virginia. We like landmarks and you did a good job,
27:03
Speaker 4: that's right. So people kind of get, and I've lived
27:05
Speaker 4: in Putnam now for ten years, people kind of get.
27:07
Speaker 4: The two little shopping areas mixed up. Liberty Square is
27:10
Speaker 4: the one just off the Tays Valley Accident. That's the Target.
27:13
Speaker 4: That's where Target, Applebee's all the all those sort of
27:15
Speaker 4: things are. But if you keep going to the back area, yes,
27:18
Speaker 4: past Big Sandy, past Moses, that's where you see the
27:22
Speaker 4: second mall, and that's where there's a big lots back there.
27:25
Speaker 4: One of my favorite places to eat, Tie Valley Kitchen.
27:27
Speaker 4: Oh yes, is back there.
27:29
Speaker 3: I like that.
27:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, great, great place for free plug for them. But
27:34
Speaker 4: that's where it is. It's it's back in that second. Yes, yes, second.
27:38
Speaker 9: I guess everyone keeps remembering as the old Cinema three
27:41
Speaker 9: or Skienies. I think it was a place or Sneakers
27:44
Speaker 9: something like that, that it was.
27:45
Speaker 4: A little bit before my time.
27:47
Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, there's yeah, some places I've heard, but the
27:49
Speaker 9: people go to so but yes, we have a grand opening.
27:52
Speaker 9: So we have a soft opening today at five and Thursday.
27:55
Speaker 9: We're just to see how things work out and who
27:57
Speaker 9: can go. Members only, Okay, you gotta be remember the
28:00
Speaker 9: Moose Lodge, so you can come by and become a
28:02
Speaker 9: Moose member. It is seventy dollars for the first year
28:06
Speaker 9: and the fifty dollars every year after that.
28:08
Speaker 4: But we are open to the public day. We're going
28:11
Speaker 4: to be open to the public Saturday.
28:12
Speaker 9: That's right, This coming Saturday, we'll be open to the public,
28:14
Speaker 9: so if you want to join, you can come by
28:17
Speaker 9: first and just check it out. So this Friday is
28:19
Speaker 9: the actual grand opening for members only. We used to
28:21
Speaker 9: open it five o'clock on Friday and eight o'clock. We
28:25
Speaker 9: have a band called Black Sheep Band, so the Black
28:28
Speaker 9: Sheep will be there performing at eight o'clock for members only,
28:31
Speaker 9: but on Saturday.
28:32
Speaker 4: It'll be open to the public.
28:33
Speaker 9: We are open at noon that day, but the music
28:36
Speaker 9: starts at eight o'clock. We have Hard Rain band performing,
28:39
Speaker 9: so Hard Rain a great band, very big following. So
28:43
Speaker 9: at it's open to the public this Saturday, so we're
28:46
Speaker 9: very excited for people to come check it out.
28:47
Speaker 4: And again, I know I've just seen that. I've not
28:50
Speaker 4: visited yet, but i have seen the pictures online. You
28:53
Speaker 4: guys took that building or that area and that shopping
28:57
Speaker 4: plaza there and have just done what looks like a
28:59
Speaker 4: great job with it.
29:00
Speaker 9: Yes, the volunteers have come out hard. Our members have
29:04
Speaker 9: have done a tremendous amount of work. We've got people
29:07
Speaker 9: that are just you know the union workers, people that
29:09
Speaker 9: are electricians. I mean they're certified. You know, they know
29:12
Speaker 9: exactly what they're doing, and we've had people just come
29:14
Speaker 9: in and just do a great thing.
29:16
Speaker 4: I'm sortain.
29:16
Speaker 9: I'm certified in painting cleaning, and I'm good with with
29:21
Speaker 9: a with a chainsaw. No, I'm just kidding, but I'm
29:24
Speaker 9: good with a saw on anything you need cut, I can.
29:26
Speaker 9: I'll be your cut guy. So, I mean it's everyone's
29:29
Speaker 9: that has their niche of helping out to the lodge
29:33
Speaker 9: that that needs to be done. I have a lot
29:34
Speaker 9: of Christmas lights to there, so I'm pretty ex Yeah,
29:36
Speaker 9: you've hung I hung a few one or two over
29:38
Speaker 9: at the ballpark.
29:39
Speaker 4: So if people are listening right now, what is the
29:41
Speaker 4: I know you talked about with the with the things
29:43
Speaker 4: you do for for seniors and kids just to join
29:47
Speaker 4: the lodge if they want the social aspect of it,
29:49
Speaker 4: and there's a lot of people that do that, and
29:50
Speaker 4: if we help people along the way, so be it.
29:52
Speaker 4: But they just want the social aspect of it. What
29:55
Speaker 4: what will they if they were if I remember, what
29:56
Speaker 4: will they see when they can got food there? Yeah,
29:58
Speaker 4: you get drink so yeah.
29:59
Speaker 9: So basically we have a small we have a bar atmosphere.
30:02
Speaker 9: Of course, we have tons of games that are on.
30:04
Speaker 9: Whenever there's a big game from WVU or Marshall or
30:07
Speaker 9: something like that, we'll always have a game on, so
30:10
Speaker 9: you know, it's always a good time. We have a
30:12
Speaker 9: couple of dartboards set up in there, so we'll have
30:14
Speaker 9: some dart leagues that are great. A lot of people
30:16
Speaker 9: like to play darts a well. I didn't realize how
30:18
Speaker 9: big the dart leagues are.
30:19
Speaker 4: It's huge.
30:19
Speaker 9: It's very big, so we're very happy to have some
30:22
Speaker 9: dart boards out there as well. We have a very
30:24
Speaker 9: big stage, so we'll have bands pretty frequently as well
30:28
Speaker 9: as DJ on certain nights as well. We have two
30:32
Speaker 9: sides of the building because I guess the theater was
30:34
Speaker 9: broken down like in two areas, so we'll have a
30:36
Speaker 9: nice area where there's band and if you really just
30:38
Speaker 9: want to hear the music but not be you know,
30:42
Speaker 9: overly excited with all the loud noises. We have the
30:44
Speaker 9: other side of the bar as well, which is fairly quiet.
30:48
Speaker 4: So I mean it's kind for people like me, that's right,
30:50
Speaker 4: that's for whole people that settle out there and enjoy
30:53
Speaker 4: a drink and and you know, not be bothered exactly exactly.
30:57
Speaker 9: So we do have some limited food right now, but
30:59
Speaker 9: eventually will have a full kitchen running with you know,
31:02
Speaker 9: burgers and dogs and of course not dogs.
31:03
Speaker 4: Of course, I gotta I got a text here before
31:06
Speaker 4: you let you go. It says, can you can? I ask?
31:09
Speaker 4: What's me? Why the Charleston Moose closed. I was a
31:12
Speaker 4: member there for several years and I loved that place.
31:14
Speaker 9: Well, I think it might have been the location. I mean,
31:16
Speaker 9: it's you know, you know, as real estate and property
31:18
Speaker 9: and leases go up, it's it's hard to find enough
31:21
Speaker 9: people to support a lodge, and you just location.
31:24
Speaker 4: Location.
31:25
Speaker 9: Location is sometimes the best of things and sometimes the
31:29
Speaker 9: worst of things. So it may have been just a location.
31:31
Speaker 9: It was actually way past Capitol High School. It was
31:34
Speaker 9: out there by the Capital flea market, you know, So
31:37
Speaker 9: it was a little bit of a drive to get
31:38
Speaker 9: out there. So I don't really know, you know, it
31:41
Speaker 9: just financially wasn't the best fit.
31:44
Speaker 4: And here is a text the exact question I asked
31:47
Speaker 4: you last week.
31:47
Speaker 3: What was that.
31:48
Speaker 4: Is smoking allowed in there?
31:50
Speaker 10: No?
31:51
Speaker 4: Okay, because that's a that's a deal breaker for me
31:53
Speaker 4: because I'm my sensitive allergies cannot handle it.
31:56
Speaker 9: So you can't, you can't vape, you can't smoke inside
31:59
Speaker 9: the building. The reason is that it's a Moose law.
32:01
Speaker 4: Period.
32:02
Speaker 9: Doesn't matter what county you think it's good to smoke in,
32:05
Speaker 9: but for all Moose lodges across the country it is
32:09
Speaker 9: a smoke free zone. Because again we're a family fraternity,
32:12
Speaker 9: so there are times where kids are allowed inside the
32:15
Speaker 9: building certain activities of course, you know, because we do
32:18
Speaker 9: have activities droughout the daytime on the weekends for kids
32:21
Speaker 9: that they want to come out and do some stuff
32:23
Speaker 9: like for Christmas we'll have the gift Gift Exchange and
32:26
Speaker 9: things like that, so you know, there's a lot of
32:27
Speaker 9: different things that the kids are welcome out to, So
32:30
Speaker 9: we want to make sure we provide a safe environment
32:32
Speaker 9: for all these families that want to come out, and
32:34
Speaker 9: even if you just want to come out with your
32:35
Speaker 9: partner or your friends out for a good time on
32:37
Speaker 9: a weekend, we want to make sure it's a safe,
32:39
Speaker 9: clean environment as well.
32:40
Speaker 4: So and now the public is invited to which night again, Saturday,
32:44
Speaker 4: Saturday Night's opening. Anybody that wants to count anybody wants
32:47
Speaker 4: to come in.
32:47
Speaker 9: It's basically just a way of saying, if you like tonight,
32:50
Speaker 9: you're probably gonna like every night you.
32:51
Speaker 4: Come out here. So we want you to become members.
32:54
Speaker 4: Really Okay, so people are listening right now, and obviously
32:57
Speaker 4: there's some interest in it based on the text I
32:58
Speaker 4: have here. What do they need to do if they
33:00
Speaker 4: want to become a member or just to learn more
33:01
Speaker 4: information about I know you've got a Facebook page, but
33:03
Speaker 4: what's the best way to learn more?
33:04
Speaker 9: It's basically exactly you said the facebook page. Go to
33:08
Speaker 9: Putnam County Moose two seven to nine and you can
33:11
Speaker 9: find all the information.
33:12
Speaker 4: It's all that.
33:13
Speaker 9: It's really really up to date a lot with all
33:15
Speaker 9: the information we have of things going on at that lodge.
33:18
Speaker 9: If you want to go check out just the moose
33:19
Speaker 9: and the mission of the Moose, you can go to
33:22
Speaker 9: moose i intl dot org, Moose International dot org. Again,
33:26
Speaker 9: this moose i intl dot org and that's where you
33:28
Speaker 9: can find more information about the Moose. But uh yeah,
33:31
Speaker 9: you can even go online and become a member that way,
33:33
Speaker 9: or you can just come right to the door and
33:34
Speaker 9: see I would like to be a member, and uh
33:36
Speaker 9: wolves will sponsor you and uh again, it's seventy dollars
33:39
Speaker 9: for the first year, twenty excuse me, in fifty for
33:42
Speaker 9: their each following year.
33:43
Speaker 4: And you can come out with hang out with me
33:45
Speaker 4: and Jay. That's right, because I joined last week.
33:47
Speaker 11: I know you did.
33:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited. I can't wait to see you out.
33:49

37:41

37:45
Speaker 4: Selango is here. Let me tell you a little you know,
37:47
Speaker 4: this time next month or month after, we're going to
37:49
Speaker 4: actually be on television when we're doing this show and
37:52
Speaker 4: and other shows that emanate from this building. Twenty seconds
37:55
Speaker 4: before we go on in here this morning, Selango, who
37:58
Speaker 4: sets across the table for me, says, gosh, I said,
38:03
Speaker 4: that's not exactly what he said, And he runs to
38:06
Speaker 4: the corner where we have a garbage can here, and
38:08
Speaker 4: I think, oh my god, he's gonna throw up. That's
38:10
Speaker 4: what's gonna happen here. But what is it that the
38:14
Speaker 4: got your attention about? This garbage can?
38:16
Speaker 15: So there's a garbage can in the corner and it
38:18
Speaker 15: has one of my law firm's old magnets. I mean,
38:22
Speaker 15: this is probably we used to put the magnet on
38:25
Speaker 15: the front of the phone book, and that's probably from
38:28
Speaker 15: two thousand and seven or two thousand and eight.
38:30
Speaker 4: Well, the trash probably hasn't been taken out, but I
38:33
Speaker 4: haven't seen that in years, so I just took it
38:35
Speaker 4: just literally. It was one of those moments when he
38:37
Speaker 4: just said gosh, golly, and he ran across the and
38:42
Speaker 4: I said, what are you, what are you doing? I
38:43
Speaker 4: have not seen one of those going to the garbage.
38:45
Speaker 15: I mean, honestly, it's it's been probably fifteen, almost twenty
38:48
Speaker 15: years since I've seen one of those. But anyway, it's
38:50
Speaker 15: funny though. Now I do get pictures of them from
38:53
Speaker 15: time to time. Apparently there's an old like some business
38:56
Speaker 15: that uses my old magnet. They don't have lock on
39:00
Speaker 15: the stalls of their bathroom. So if the magnets on
39:03
Speaker 15: the outside, it's in use. If the magnets on the inside,
39:06
Speaker 15: it's not in use. Ben says, go, Ben says stop.
39:10
Speaker 4: Yeah. So anyway, I'm glad they're putting the old magnets too. Well,
39:13
Speaker 4: you know, it's whatever you know, I mean, And there's
39:15
Speaker 4: so many attorney jokes I could make about bathroom stalls
39:18
Speaker 4: that I'm not gonna do. You know what, we should
39:20
Speaker 4: probably just do a whole episode on you. Yeah, well
39:22
Speaker 4: that'll be one for the podcast that won't but make
39:25
Speaker 4: it to the AIRCC will crown up on that sort
39:26
Speaker 4: of thing. All right, So let's get serious here just
39:28
Speaker 4: for a moment. Let's talk about the bid or now
39:32
Speaker 4: I guess, the rebid for the Judicial Annex.
39:35
Speaker 15: You know, do you remember this was probably two months ago.
39:38
Speaker 15: I was on the show and we were talking about
39:40
Speaker 15: the bid process and how complex that that whole Judicial
39:45
Speaker 15: Annex remodel is, and I said, you know, if all
39:48
Speaker 15: the projects of the county has going on, that's the
39:50
Speaker 15: one that keeps me up at night because you're there's
39:54
Speaker 15: so many moving parts. You're dealing with a confined space.
39:59
Speaker 15: We can't we can't go vertical. I can't add floors
40:02
Speaker 15: to the Judicial Annex. It's difficult to go horizonticals. We're
40:07
Speaker 15: blocked in by streets and we got Virginia gosh Horn
40:09
Speaker 15: Court courier, so it's not like I can go outward.
40:13
Speaker 15: And so we we brought in, you know, some phenomenal
40:16
Speaker 15: architects who've done this all over the country to try
40:20
Speaker 15: to come up with a simple, fairly inexpensive solution to
40:24
Speaker 15: a very complex problem. And unfortunately it's just costing too much.
40:28
Speaker 15: So you know, kind of if you rewind and you know,
40:31
Speaker 15: how did we get here. The legislature passed a law
40:34
Speaker 15: that added an additional circuit judge and three additional magistrates.
40:38
Speaker 4: So this was not something that we want to make
40:40
Speaker 4: sure people understand. This was not something that Kanawa County No. Did.
40:43
Speaker 15: The legislature is who said you got to add these people.
40:46
Speaker 15: The lature said, here's what you need to add. Good
40:49
Speaker 15: luck paying for it. That's essentially what they're said, Hey,
40:51
Speaker 15: that's you know, that's our responsibility. So we're we came
40:55
Speaker 15: up with a plan, and initially the budget was going
40:57
Speaker 15: to be between ten and twelve million dollars.
40:59
Speaker 4: I knew that it was going to be expensive.
41:00
Speaker 15: The commission that was going to be expensive, and you know,
41:03
Speaker 15: Commission President Lance Wheeler's been working very closely with Chief
41:06
Speaker 15: Judge Mary Claire Acres and they've you know, they've done
41:09
Speaker 15: a great job. And of course a Sheriff elect, Joey Crawford,
41:12
Speaker 15: everyone has been working together. So initially ten to twelve
41:16
Speaker 15: million dollars budget. Then it was revised. We went up
41:18
Speaker 15: about ten percent, little over ten percent, and then it
41:21
Speaker 15: because we thought to get everything we wanted, it's going
41:23
Speaker 15: to be about thirteen point five million.
41:26
Speaker 4: Right.
41:27
Speaker 15: Well, then you've got in addition to that, you've got
41:30
Speaker 15: expensive lawyer fees, you've got bond fees, you've got all
41:34
Speaker 15: this other stuff, which added another one point too. So
41:38
Speaker 15: now we're sitting at, you know, an additional one point two.
41:40
Speaker 15: Then the bids comes in at three million dollars over
41:42
Speaker 15: what we projected sixteen point two million. You had the
41:45
Speaker 15: one point two out of pocket, and now we're looking
41:47
Speaker 15: at seventeen point four if you had come in. You know,
41:51
Speaker 15: it doesn't matter if it's with counting money or my
41:55
Speaker 15: law firm money or any of my businesses. If something
41:58
Speaker 15: comes in thirty or forty percent over budget, it you
42:00
Speaker 15: can't sign that deal. I mean, you can only sign
42:03
Speaker 15: a deal that you can pay for sure, right with
42:05
Speaker 15: tax payer money. Tax payer money. You know, it's fiscally
42:08
Speaker 15: irresponsible to sign off on something you can't pay for.
42:12
Speaker 15: Or maybe we'll get some federal money, or maybe we'll
42:15
Speaker 15: be able to lower the cost.
42:16
Speaker 4: And so what we did. We really tried.
42:19
Speaker 15: We worked hard with both the architect and the winning
42:23
Speaker 15: bidder to try to and by the way, we're handcuffed
42:26
Speaker 15: too on how we can negotiate. If this was at
42:29
Speaker 15: my firm, the negotiation will look at a lot different,
42:32
Speaker 15: I promise you. But you know, we are handcuffed with
42:35
Speaker 15: what we can do. Before the contract is signed. You
42:38
Speaker 15: can't change the scope for instance, of the of the
42:42
Speaker 15: of the contract. You can't change the scope of the project.
42:44
Speaker 15: So we have to try to reduce the cost within
42:50
Speaker 15: the scope that we have. But also after you sign
42:52
Speaker 15: the contract, you can actually then reduce the scope, which
42:55
Speaker 15: is crazy to me. We should have a little more
42:58
Speaker 15: flexibility in how we're able to legally negotiate these things
43:02
Speaker 15: to try to save tax payers money. Can't do that.
43:04
Speaker 15: So we were able to within keeping the same scope.
43:08
Speaker 15: I think we could have gotten it down about a
43:09
Speaker 15: million bucks, but we're still three million over and so
43:14
Speaker 15: you know, we had a a very pointed zoom and
43:20
Speaker 15: we just couldn't get there. We just couldn't reach an
43:23
Speaker 15: agreement on where we go forward. And you know it
43:27
Speaker 15: would be it would be terrible for the County Commission
43:30
Speaker 15: to sign off on a contract campaign where so we didn't,
43:32
Speaker 15: we're not going to and we're going to rebid it.
43:34
Speaker 15: So basically what you've got, you've got the fifth floor,
43:37
Speaker 15: which is where the circuit judge, the new circuit judge
43:39
Speaker 15: is going to be. We're and that's that's kind of easy.
43:42
Speaker 15: That part of the fifth floor just it's basically some
43:45
Speaker 15: walls and you know, remot doing a courtroom. And I
43:48
Speaker 15: don't think that one is as complex as the first floor.
43:53
Speaker 15: The first floor, which is where the new magistrates. You've
43:55
Speaker 15: got to have matresses, you've got to have space for assistance,
43:57
Speaker 15: you've got to have you know, a lot of extra stuff,
44:00
Speaker 15: and that one is very, very complex. So we're going
44:03
Speaker 15: to bid it in separate projects. We're going to have
44:05
Speaker 15: the fifth floor, which we already have the design floor
44:08
Speaker 15: that's ready to go, but we got to do a
44:10
Speaker 15: new bid legally, so we're going to put that out asap.
44:14
Speaker 15: And while we're working on that project, we are going
44:17
Speaker 15: to completely redesign the first floor and bring it within budget.
44:23
Speaker 15: That's going to take a couple months, so the you know,
44:27
Speaker 15: kind of break it all down. I don't think the
44:29
Speaker 15: fifth floor part, the circuit judge part, is going to
44:32
Speaker 15: be way off schedule. The first floor part I think
44:36

Speaker 4: Tech says, I don't want my tax dollars going for
47:21
Speaker 4: a court that wasn't needed, put them in a vacant
47:23
Speaker 4: building downtown. This is government waste. Well, you know that's
47:27
Speaker 4: that was not within the Countycommission's purview. We did not
47:32
Speaker 4: make that decision.
47:33
Speaker 15: That was a legislative decision, and I'm not necessarily agreeable
47:37
Speaker 15: that it wasn't needed. I mean, we've got, you know,
47:40
Speaker 15: the judicial docket over there as crazy, particularly with abuse
47:43
Speaker 15: and neglect cases on the rise. I would imagine if
47:45
Speaker 15: you went over there and surveyed the circuit judges, at
47:48
Speaker 15: a minimum, you would see that sixty to seventy maybe
47:51
Speaker 15: higher percent of their docket is abuse in neglects, which
47:54
Speaker 15: is mostly drug related. I suspect if you went down
47:57
Speaker 15: to Master Court you would see that a lot of
47:59
Speaker 15: their case is are drug related. So I'm not willing
48:03
Speaker 15: to take that leap and say it wasn't needed. My
48:07
Speaker 15: My responsibility is to figure out a way to pay
48:10
Speaker 15: for it and to do what the legislature told me
48:12
Speaker 15: to do, and that's that's exactly what we're trying to do.
48:14
Speaker 4: So if the County Commission were to say we're not
48:16
Speaker 4: doing this, you're going to run a file of what
48:18
Speaker 4: the legislatures. I suspect that would create all kinds of issues.
48:20
Speaker 4: So we're not going to do that.
48:21
Speaker 15: We're just going to do it in a fiscally responsible way.
48:23
Speaker 15: But hey, listen, we're I'm a taxpayer. You think I
48:26
Speaker 15: want to waste my money too? I don't, So I
48:29
Speaker 15: get you, and I'm trying to, you know, we just
48:31
Speaker 15: try to figure out how to stay within our budget.
48:34
Speaker 4: So what else is going on with County Commission?
48:36
Speaker 3: Business?
48:37
Speaker 4: Got a meeting Thursday night?
48:37
Speaker 15: I guess right, Yeah, we have a meeting Thursday night,
48:39
Speaker 15: and we'll talk about the judicial annext stuff. But we've
48:42
Speaker 15: you know, we just hosted a big group of business
48:46
Speaker 15: people from Japan. The University of Charleston was phenomenal. Charlestonnayir
48:51
Speaker 15: Alliance kind of arranged at all our bags and had
48:55
Speaker 15: had out all of them over to u See for dinner.
48:58
Speaker 15: And they're all looking to make We have a long history.
49:01
Speaker 15: The state of West Virginia has a long history of
49:03
Speaker 15: working with Japan, Toyota and for any others. And I
49:06
Speaker 15: know that Governor Justice was very involved in that, and
49:11
Speaker 15: so was a Senator Mansion, Senator Capito and so. But
49:15
Speaker 15: it's funny because after when we finished up the dinner,
49:18
Speaker 15: they wanted to go see the lights, so we took
49:20
Speaker 15: him over to the ballpark and they had never seen
49:23
Speaker 15: anything like that, so it was comical on us. They
49:26
Speaker 15: were all kind of crammed into once one of the
49:29
Speaker 15: smaller suites over there and just taking pictures, and then
49:32
Speaker 15: we took them out on the field and walked through
49:34
Speaker 15: and they had a great time. They truly enjoyed the meeting,
49:38
Speaker 15: and you know, great job, Charles Snare Alliance. And did
49:41
Speaker 15: any of them say you're the guy from the garbage can. No,
49:45
Speaker 15: they didn't say that. I don't think they saw it.
49:47
Speaker 15: But it was an interesting meeting because I gave a
49:52
Speaker 15: speech and I would have to say a line and
49:53
Speaker 15: then there'd be an interpreter that would basically translate everything
49:56
Speaker 15: into Japanese. So it was one of the most unusual
49:59
Speaker 15: speeches of it forgiven, where I would say a line
50:01
Speaker 15: and then it would be and I assume she was
50:04
Speaker 15: saying it.
50:04
Speaker 4: I don't know what she was saying, selango. She could
50:06
Speaker 4: have been saying anything.
50:07
Speaker 15: She could have been just teasing, you know, like mocking
50:10
Speaker 15: me the entire time, and I wouldn't know. But it
50:12
Speaker 15: was a great meeting.

Speaker 4: this is a text here about Light to Night Texas.
50:36
Speaker 4: Why does the Charleston Dirty Word social media page say
50:38
Speaker 4: their Light to Night rides are down for maintenance when
50:41
Speaker 4: they're actually down to a major copper theft at the park?
50:43
Speaker 4: Not sure why that sugarcoat? Do you know that to
50:46
Speaker 4: be a fighter? I do not know that.
50:48
Speaker 15: I'm not sure if that's accurate or not. I knew,
50:50
Speaker 15: I mean, I saw the social media post that it
50:52
Speaker 15: was down for maintenance, but I'm not aware of a
50:53
Speaker 15: copper theft. Yeah, nobody called and told me if.
50:57
Speaker 4: I mean, you're the guy right in the check you
50:58
Speaker 4: know which that's.
51:00
Speaker 15: True, But they didn't tell me we did have a
51:02
Speaker 15: I will tell you a funny story from last year.
51:04
Speaker 15: A good friend of mine his in laws were on
51:08
Speaker 15: the ferris wheel and I guess it's d it's run
51:11
Speaker 15: by diesel, and they got up to the top and
51:14
Speaker 15: it ran out of ran out of fuel winds. So
51:17
Speaker 15: they were stuck up there for like thirty minutes and
51:19
Speaker 15: they were texting me from the top, which was pretty funny.
51:22
Speaker 4: But I did not have any I don't have any
51:25
Speaker 4: knowledge of that of the copper issue, all right, So
51:28
Speaker 4: the Slango law light that I just totally separate from
51:30

51:41
Speaker 4: And those fine folks are a Jillian. They're all going
51:44
Speaker 4: to be there. They're all there, they're all working hard.
51:47
Speaker 13: You know.
51:47
Speaker 15: We had a big event over the weekend. Local lawyer
51:51
Speaker 15: John Carr sponsored one thousand children to go through for free,
51:57
Speaker 15: and that included the entire the wristband, so they were
52:00
Speaker 15: able to go through and ride all the rides. And
52:03
Speaker 15: you know that's as a wonderful thing that he did.
52:05
Speaker 15: Those kids otherwise may not have been able to go
52:07
Speaker 15: through and he paid for all of them.
52:09
Speaker 4: That's awesome kind of com mister Vinceulango. Appreciate you being here, buddy.

Speaker 16: a report that lawmakers wanted that would give them information
52:35
Speaker 16: on how children are dying in West Virginia, and the
52:38
Speaker 16: report was lackluster to say the least. We'll get into
