- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Up next
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonnya
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. And congratulations, you have
- 0:14Speaker 1: made it to Friday, 24th of July, and also when
- 0:18Speaker 1: we come back, I'll give you some fireworks timings to
- 0:21Speaker 1: look forward to for tomorrow when it comes to preview
- 0:24Speaker 1: one for National Day Parade 2026. Singapore's number one hit
- 0:28Speaker 1: music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Now, during the World Cup, if you followed England's journey,
- 0:36Speaker 1: you would know the player Jude Bellingham, the man who
- 0:38Speaker 1: wears number 10 going viral on TikTok as well. I'm
- 0:42Speaker 1: seeing loads of fan cam edits and people thirst trapping
- 0:46Speaker 1: Jude Bellingham. I don't know why, but OK, whatever works
- 0:49Speaker 1: for him. And you would know that when England wins,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and for example, it's credited to Jude Bellingham, the fans
- 0:56Speaker 1: would sing this song to him. Hey.
- 1:09Speaker 1: There are loads of videos of Jude Bellingham actually crying
- 1:13Speaker 1: when the fans sing him this song at the stadiums
- 1:16Speaker 1: during the World Cup. So the singers of the song.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It's the Beatles. If you have no idea who the
- 1:23Speaker 1: Beatles are, it's OK. Go ask your parents, go ask
- 1:27Speaker 1: your grandparents. Only one of the biggest bands of the
- 1:30Speaker 1: world in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and their music will
- 1:35Speaker 1: always stand the test of time. John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, these four names, be absolutely familiar with it. So,
- 1:44Speaker 1: 2 of the 4 Beatles are still alive, Sir Paul
- 1:47Speaker 1: McCartney and Ringo Starr, and I've been to Liverpool, England before. Yes,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I went to Enfield. I went to Goodison Park when
- 1:55Speaker 1: it was still Goodison Park back then before it became
- 1:58Speaker 1: Everton Stadium.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And for Liverpool, it is Beatlestown because that is where
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Beatles are from. And everywhere you turn, especially at
- 2:07Speaker 1: the Kevin Street Club area, there are loads of tribute
- 2:10Speaker 1: bands to the Beatles, paying tribute to the Beatles. Their
- 2:14Speaker 1: costumes are on display in museums and all that, and
- 2:16Speaker 1: they have this thing called the
- 2:17Speaker 1: Magical mystery bus tour where they will show you like
- 2:21Speaker 1: maybe Penny Lane and going to all the childhood places
- 2:24Speaker 1: of the Beatles. So what happened in Liverpool, England two
- 2:28Speaker 1: days ago was during the magical mystery bus tour when
- 2:33Speaker 1: they pulled up at some random traffic light. Who was
- 2:37Speaker 1: to be the one pulling up next to them by chance?
- 2:40Speaker 1: It's Sir Paul McCartney himself.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And it's no coincidence, he was on a video call
- 2:46Speaker 1: with Ringo Starr. So people who were on that magical
- 2:49Speaker 1: mystery bus were treated to a once-in a-lifetime experience, a
- 2:54Speaker 1: money can't buy experience, and Sir Paul McCartney actually took
- 2:57Speaker 1: pictures with them until the lights changed back to green colors.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So yeah, there you go.
- 3:01Speaker 1: It's an experience I really wish my dad had because
- 3:05Speaker 1: he was the one that introduced me to the Beatles
- 3:07Speaker 1: and this song, Hey Jude, the one I just played
- 3:09Speaker 1: you earlier, it's whole special meaning for my dad and
- 3:13Speaker 1: I because our middle name is Jude and of course
- 3:16Speaker 1: that one popular part that everyone sings in a bar
- 3:19Speaker 1: or in stadiums.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, so there you go, some music history for you.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And by the way, if you're wondering, are the Beatles
- 3:35Speaker 1: are so old, no. Some of the bands you're hearing
- 3:39Speaker 1: play on 987, who were their inspiration? The Beatles. There
- 3:42Speaker 1: you go. And in case you just joined us and
- 3:45Speaker 1: you're wondering, eh, where's our darling Sonia? Well, she's actually
- 3:48Speaker 1: in Belgium right now for Tomorrowland Weekend too. I believe
- 3:53Speaker 1: she's on a campaign. So tonight, or rather Belgium time,
- 3:59Speaker 1: night time.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You might want to stand by on her Instagram stories
- 4:02Speaker 1: or maybe even her Instagram. She might be posting loads
- 4:05Speaker 1: of stories of all the DJs and the amazing stage
- 4:08Speaker 1: layout and her experience on Tomorrowland. It's something I was
- 4:12Speaker 1: hoping that both of us could go together with close
- 4:14Speaker 1: friends and with Jeremy, but never mind. She goes first.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Maybe she gets a taste of Tomorrowland.
- 4:19Speaker 1: so she can better advise all of us on what
- 4:21Speaker 1: to expect if we ever are making plans to go
- 4:25Speaker 1: to Boom, Belgium in the month of July for weekend
- 4:27Speaker 1: one or weekend two. When we come back though, the
- 4:30Speaker 1: phone lines will be open over at 669-119-87. I, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: love this part of the show because we get to
- 4:36Speaker 1: hear from you.
- 4:37Speaker 1: And whether you're a primary, secondary, ITE, poly, JC, uni,
- 4:42Speaker 1: as long as you're schooling, you call us. You could
- 4:45Speaker 1: be a teacher as well. 669-119-87, maybe say in less
- 4:49Speaker 1: than 5 minutes. Tell us about your school. Tell us
- 4:52Speaker 1: about your day. Was there anything exciting? Maybe you can
- 4:55Speaker 1: share with us how was your Racial Harmony Day celebrations
- 4:58Speaker 1: in school as well, and the biggest
- 5:00Speaker 1: Take away from you, for you rather, is we play
- 5:04Speaker 1: you your favorite song here on the shock circuit. So
- 5:06Speaker 1: all that and more coming up here on the show.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Now's the time we open the phone lines at 669-119-87. Again,
- 5:13Speaker 1: whether you're a student of any school of any level,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you could be a principal, you could be a teacher,
- 5:19Speaker 1: discipline master, canteen, auntie, anything, call us right now, 669.
- 5:23Speaker 1: 11987. Tell us what is amazing about your school. How
- 5:27Speaker 1: has your week been? How has your month of July been?
- 5:31Speaker 1: I think we are one month into the post-June holidays already.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Let us know about your weighted assessments or anything. Have
- 5:38Speaker 1: a conversation with me. It gets a bit quiet here
- 5:40Speaker 1: in the studio, so I could use you for company.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And the biggest takeaway is I play you your favorite
- 5:45Speaker 1: song here. 987. Hello, what's it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Name. Hello Jovan, and how's your Friday morning so far, buddy?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Very good. And which school are you off to? Maha.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Maha Bodhi. OK, I don't think it's the first time
- 5:56Speaker 1: we had someone from Maha Bodhi School calling us. What's
- 5:59Speaker 1: amazing about your school, man? What do you love about school? Friends.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And how do you usually spend time with them? t,
- 6:05Speaker 1: tag recess. Your play tag is like catching, is it?
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yes, OK, Ken, at least it's still called the same thing.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Can I ask what's good to eat or anything eventful
- 6:17Speaker 1: that happened for you in Maha Body School the past week?
- 6:20Speaker 1: How are your racial Harmony Day celebrations?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Very good. What do y'all do?
- 6:26Speaker 1: Uh, dress up, do art and crafts. So what do
- 6:31Speaker 1: you dress up as or which, which, uh, racist costume
- 6:34Speaker 1: did you wear?
- 6:35Speaker 1: Outfit Chinese. Chinese. Ah, alright. OK then. Jovan, what song
- 6:39Speaker 1: can I get you to play here on 987? Gabriela. Sure,
- 6:43Speaker 1: why not? Very popular for our requests here on the show.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You take care, man. Enjoy school, OK. Bye-bye. With how
- 6:49Speaker 1: popular this song is, I'm surprised it's only over a
- 6:53Speaker 1: year old. Yup. It was released June 20th, 2025, so
- 6:59Speaker 1: it's about what, 1 month and 4 days old? Yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 1: One month, no, one year.
- 7:07Speaker 1: 1 year, 1 month, and 4 days old. There you go.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It's Joakim Gomez keeping you company right here on the
- 7:13Speaker 1: shock circuit. I can't math right now, but what I
- 7:15Speaker 1: can do and maybe say just past 7 a.m., how
- 7:18Speaker 1: about handing you a pair of tickets to preview 2
- 7:23Speaker 1: for this year's NDP. Yup. And apparently our friends over
- 7:26Speaker 1: at Channel News Asia, they've very kindly given you an
- 7:30Speaker 1: article where they say, here are some of the best
- 7:33Speaker 1: spots in Singapore to book for a staycation over.
- 7:36Speaker 1: NDP weekend. Let me give you some of my picks
- 7:40Speaker 1: as well from this article where hopefully, if you pick
- 7:43Speaker 1: the correct facing side, you'll be able to see some fireworks.
- 7:47Speaker 1: All that and plenty more here on the shock circuit.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Stay with us. Shen Sonia, of course, in Belgium for Tomorrowland.
- 7:53Speaker 1: She'll get to enjoy Martin Garrix's live and I'm waiting
- 7:57Speaker 1: for all her Insta stories and Instagram pictures. That's it,
- 8:01Speaker 1: just across, I won't say the river or the sea,
- 8:05Speaker 1: but
- 8:05Speaker 1: A train ride away from Belgium. It is France, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: what happened over at the Louvre nine months ago, it's
- 8:12Speaker 1: a certain jewelry heist that you might have read about.
- 8:15Speaker 1: The jewelry heist, by the way, saw the Louvre losing
- 8:19Speaker 1: close to $102 million worth of crown jewels. It's been
- 8:25Speaker 1: 9 months, it's unrecovered over at the Apollo Gallery, but
- 8:30Speaker 1: some
- 8:32Speaker 1: Is good news the right phrase to use? Some good
- 8:36Speaker 1: news for you if you have if you have plans
- 8:37Speaker 1: to go to the Louvre to tour the entire museum
- 8:40Speaker 1: and have a look at all the art exhibits and
- 8:42Speaker 1: maybe uh artifacts from days past. The Apollo Gallery has
- 8:47Speaker 1: been reopened to the public. Yay! Should we clap? I
- 8:50Speaker 1: I I think we should. Yeah, well done, OK.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Uh, my, my only wish is, yes, you've reopened to
- 9:00Speaker 1: the public. Let's hope your security measures are a lot
- 9:02Speaker 1: better than what it was 9 months ago, OK? And yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: the moment they find the jewels, we'll let you know
- 9:09Speaker 1: here on 987, but I'm just speculating here, highly likely
- 9:13Speaker 1: it's already been fenced somewhere.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That, that, that's my opinion. And you just know, our
- 9:19Speaker 1: friends over at Netflix, they are preparing a documentary series
- 9:23Speaker 1: about this particular jewelry heist. There you go. It's Selena
- 9:26Speaker 1: Gomez with Boyfriend, right here on 987, your number one
- 9:30Speaker 1: hit music station, also sharing the same birth date as
- 9:33Speaker 1: yours truly. She's 34 years old this year. Congratulations to
- 9:38Speaker 1: Selena Gomez.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Not just her, Prince George as well, becoming a teenager,
- 9:46Speaker 1: Shawn Michaels, if you follow WWE, it was his birthday,
- 9:50Speaker 1: also 22nd of July, and this one, when I was
- 9:53Speaker 1: just googling who I share the same birthday with, it, it,
- 9:56Speaker 1: it gave me goosebumps. The man who wrote our national anthem,
- 10:01Speaker 1: the late Zubir Sayed, 22nd of July 1907. Wow!
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. I don't know what that means,
- 10:10Speaker 1: but I don't believe in coincidences anymore. When we come
- 10:13Speaker 1: back though, speaking of the late Zubir Say and our
- 10:16Speaker 1: national anthem, how about singing it proudly for National Day
- 10:21Speaker 1: Parade preview to come August 1st. Yes, I'm preparing you
- 10:27Speaker 1: for something that we have next week here on the show.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Shock circuit, but I'll give you more details at just
- 10:32Speaker 1: past 9:00 a.m. But for now, I have a small,
- 10:36Speaker 1: very easy National Day parade quiz coming your way, maybe
- 10:41Speaker 1: say in less than 5 minutes. So be on standby
- 10:44Speaker 1: over at 669-119-87. I'll be opening up the phone lines.
- 10:48Speaker 1: If you get through and you answer 3 questions correctly.
- 10:52Speaker 1: You're walking away with that pair of preview 2 passes. 987, hello,
- 10:56Speaker 1: what's your name? Cameron. Good morning. Good morning, Cameron. How's
- 10:59Speaker 1: your Friday morning so far, buddy?
- 11:01Speaker 1: Uh, it's good. I'm guessing you're headed to work then.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Uh, yes. What do you do for a living out
- 11:07Speaker 1: of curiosity?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Uh, I work in the finance sector. OK, busy times
- 11:13Speaker 1: for you, I guess. The grind never stops. All right, Cameron,
- 11:16Speaker 1: so hopefully, you walk away with a pair of preview
- 11:19Speaker 1: two tickets to this year's NDP happening 1st of August.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I have a list of three questions. I'll give you
- 11:26Speaker 1: A or B options. Are you ready? Yes. All right,
- 11:30Speaker 1: here we go, Cameron.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Your very first question, what does Singapura mean in Sanskrit?
- 11:38Speaker 1: Is it A, fishing village, or B, lion city?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Uh, B, Lion City. Lion City is absolutely correct. Well done.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Your next question, who is the original singer of Home?
- 11:54Speaker 1: Is it A, Stephanie Sun or B, Kit Chan?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Uh, Kit Chan. Kit Chan is correct. You almost kept
- 12:04Speaker 1: me for a while with that silence. OK. And your
- 12:07Speaker 1: last question, what is the name of the NDP mascot?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Is it A, August the Merlion, or B, Singer the lion?
- 12:18Speaker 1: Uh, Singa the lion, Singa the lion, the courtesy one,
- 12:22Speaker 1: change your answer.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Uh, August. August the Merlion is absolutely correct. Well done
- 12:30Speaker 1: to you, Cameron. Thank you. That pair of NDP preview
- 12:35Speaker 1: two passes coming your way. Who are you gonna bring
- 12:37Speaker 1: with you?
- 12:39Speaker 1: Uh, I'll probably bring my fiance. Yeah, you know what,
- 12:41Speaker 1: have a great one. Hopefully get a good view of
- 12:43Speaker 1: the fireworks from inside the stadium. We'll see you there
- 12:46Speaker 1: August 1st, OK, Cameron? OK, thank you so much. Well,
- 12:50Speaker 1: next week here on the shock circuit, we have a
- 12:53Speaker 1: small surprise for you. I think Sonia and I, we
- 12:56Speaker 1: have secured you.
- 12:58Speaker 1: NDP actual day tickets. So if you want to win it,
- 13:02Speaker 1: all you have to do is tune in to us
- 13:04Speaker 1: next week, more of such quizzes, and I promise you,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'll keep it easy. I, I, I'll keep it very basic. I,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I was quite scared that Cameron kept a little bit
- 13:13Speaker 1: quiet when I asked who was the original singer of Home,
- 13:16Speaker 1: whether it was it Stephanie's son or Kit Chan.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Easy questions, OK? Level 1 or level 2 questions will
- 13:22Speaker 1: be asked next week. I was scrolling through Channel News
- 13:26Speaker 1: Asia earlier this morning, I was looking for content and
- 13:29Speaker 1: I realized they actually released an article where they were
- 13:32Speaker 1: giving you tips on where to do your staycations if
- 13:35Speaker 1: you want to catch the fireworks over NDP weekend or
- 13:38Speaker 1: preview one or preview two. Places like
- 13:42Speaker 1: Ritz-Carlton, it was mentioned, Park Royal, at least the hotels
- 13:47Speaker 1: that are able to face towards the Kallang Stadium site,
- 13:50Speaker 1: National Stadium site, yeah, they were all in your news articles.
- 13:54Speaker 1: If you're wanting to catch the fireworks, places like Nicoll
- 13:58Speaker 1: Highway MRT station, Kallang Riverside Park, and Tanjung R, it's
- 14:02Speaker 1: gonna be very crowded, so you gotta do.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's more Singaporean thing. You got to go there early
- 14:08Speaker 1: and camp. Bring your picnic mats, bring your lunch, dinner,
- 14:11Speaker 1: bring your sunblocks and all your umbrellas in case it rains,
- 14:15Speaker 1: or if it gets really hot and glaring, at least
- 14:17Speaker 1: you're protected from the sun or the rain. But if
- 14:20Speaker 1: you want to go to other places, there are some
- 14:24Speaker 1: places like Golden Mile, Kapa, people are going there to
- 14:26Speaker 1: camp over there, or if you have friends over the.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Tanjong Ru area. Now's the time to call them and say, hey,
- 14:32Speaker 1: can I come over for dinner, or can I just
- 14:34Speaker 1: come over and have a look at the fireworks and
- 14:36Speaker 1: we have some wine or some drinks. Timings though, OK,
- 14:40Speaker 1: for the flag fly pass, it's when the reviewing officer,
- 14:44Speaker 1: or for the actual day, the president, it's when he
- 14:47Speaker 1: shows up to the parade, when we sing national anthem.
- 14:50Speaker 1: That's when the flag fly pass would happen.
- 14:53Speaker 1: 6:30 to about 6:50 p.m., point your camera to the
- 14:57Speaker 1: sky and be on standby. Maybe if you're at Marina Barrage,
- 15:00Speaker 1: you might see this clearly. And for the fireworks, it's
- 15:03Speaker 1: just past 7:30 p.m. There'll be some random bursts. And
- 15:06Speaker 1: for the finale, it's closer to 8:00 p.m. or slightly
- 15:10Speaker 1: past 8:00 p.m. where you get the full show. So hopefully,
- 15:13Speaker 1: you take nice pictures. I'm seeing loads of nice videos
- 15:17Speaker 1: on TikTok already. I think my algorithm.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Rhythm because I've been clicking on so much of the
- 15:21Speaker 1: hashtags NDP 2026. Uh, I'm just liking all the NDP
- 15:25Speaker 1: videos that I see. Thank you so much and I
- 15:27Speaker 1: really hope you've had fun. If you were there inside
- 15:30Speaker 1: the stadium or with friends and family outside looking for
- 15:33Speaker 1: a nice view. I don't know why two good words
- 15:35Speaker 1: like good life. Here in Singapore, when we say, there's
- 15:38Speaker 1: always like a negative connotation or a condescending tone to it. Wow,
- 15:44Speaker 1: good life, huh?
- 15:46Speaker 1: You see what I mean? But anyway, it is Joakim
- 15:49Speaker 1: Gomez keeping you company here on the shock circuit and
- 15:51Speaker 1: as promised, uh, I asked you to have in mind,
- 15:54Speaker 1: who would you call to rescue you from a creepy
- 15:57Speaker 1: crawly situation? Because I want to upsize this story a
- 16:00Speaker 1: little bit and take you to a small village in Rajasthan, India.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Where a shopkeeper was just going about his day and
- 16:08Speaker 1: by the way, this entire incident is available for you
- 16:12Speaker 1: on video, so I'm very sure it's on TikTok or
- 16:14Speaker 1: on Instagram reels somewhere. Just go search up Rajasthan Shopkeeper
- 16:18Speaker 1: and what you will see is in the middle of nowhere, suddenly,
- 16:22Speaker 1: a leopard.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I kid you not, a leopard enters the store and
- 16:28Speaker 1: the leopard almost mauls the shopkeeper. Thank God he was
- 16:33Speaker 1: able to get out in time and close the shutters
- 16:35Speaker 1: of his store to trap the leopard inside. I'm not
- 16:38Speaker 1: too sure what has happened to the leopard, but in
- 16:40Speaker 1: the CCTV it looks quite cute lah, but it was
- 16:44Speaker 1: going towards the alcohol section.
- 16:46Speaker 1: The leopard was thirsty for some drinks. So again, thankfully
- 16:49Speaker 1: nobody was seriously hurt, and I'm very sure the leopard's
- 16:52Speaker 1: taken care of. Maybe he was set free somewhere else
- 16:55Speaker 1: far away from this little shop in the village of Rajasthan, India.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So with that situation, I mean, obviously you can't call
- 17:03Speaker 1: anyone to come and save you from all that, but
- 17:05Speaker 1: I want to bring it back here to Singapore, OK?
- 17:08Speaker 1: And this might make you shudder. I know if Sonia
- 17:10Speaker 1: were here she would go, Hey, hey, don't say, don't
- 17:12Speaker 1: say it, please don't say it. Yeah, but I'll say
- 17:14Speaker 1: it since it's in Belgium.
- 17:15Speaker 1: For example, if there's a cockroach, lizard, creepy crawly, a
- 17:19Speaker 1: moth or a bee or whatsoever, and if you don't
- 17:23Speaker 1: have the courage to approach it and you know, put
- 17:25Speaker 1: it somewhere else or get rid of it, who do
- 17:28Speaker 1: you call? What happens then? Who is your life and savior?
- 17:34Speaker 1: In a situation like this, tell us this hilarious story.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Has it ever happened to you? 669-11987 or you can
- 17:42Speaker 1: WhatsApp us at 90050987. If we do like your answer
- 17:48Speaker 1: or your dramatic story this Friday morning, what's coming your way,
- 17:51Speaker 1: a very nice dining experience. All thanks to our friends
- 17:54Speaker 1: over at Racine at SophieTel Singapore City Center. And look,
- 17:59Speaker 1: for their buffet.
- 18:01Speaker 1: They want to focus on Straits heritage cuisine, so we're
- 18:04Speaker 1: talking chili prawns, nonya assam fish, roasted suckling pig, and
- 18:10Speaker 1: we've got champadak creme brulee and onde one cake, plus
- 18:14Speaker 1: a taytarek station where you can master your own tariq.
- 18:17Speaker 1: There you go, 6690.
- 18:19Speaker 1: 11987 or 9005098. So, in case you just joined us,
- 18:25Speaker 1: told you a story, a real-life story that's available on
- 18:28Speaker 1: video of a little small village in Rajasthan, India, where
- 18:31Speaker 1: a shopkeeper just going about his everyday business and all
- 18:35Speaker 1: of a sudden, a leopard enters his store.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yup, the leopard almost mauls him. Thank God he was
- 18:41Speaker 1: able to run out in time. He closed the shutters
- 18:44Speaker 1: to trap the leopard inside the store, and if you
- 18:47Speaker 1: watch the CCTV you're just wondering why is the leopard
- 18:49Speaker 1: going towards the alcohol section. So I searched, are there
- 18:53Speaker 1: beers named after leopards? There's one called Leo, apparently.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Maybe you wanna drink its own product, but anyway, uh,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I want to downsize the leopard to simple things like
- 19:05Speaker 1: the cockroach, the lizard, a moth, a bee, anything that's
- 19:10Speaker 1: creepy crawly here in Singapore.
- 19:12Speaker 1: If a case were to happen to you and if
- 19:15Speaker 1: you're not brave enough to confront it, who do you call?
- 19:18Speaker 1: 669-119-87 or 900509-887. You can WhatsApp us. I want to
- 19:25Speaker 1: say good morning to Jasmine. Jasmine says, hey Joakim, when
- 19:29Speaker 1: my son was younger,
- 19:30Speaker 1: Younger, when he needs midnight feeds, I will go to
- 19:34Speaker 1: the kitchen to make milk for him. Every night without fail,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I will spot a cockroach at my countertop. I will
- 19:40Speaker 1: often wake my husband up to catch it, but by
- 19:42Speaker 1: the time he wakes up, the cockroach is gone. It
- 19:45Speaker 1: has come to a point where I'm no longer afraid,
- 19:47Speaker 1: and I'll just pick up my courage and I'll smack
- 19:49Speaker 1: it with my bare hands. We, wow, OK. One coming
- 19:54Speaker 1: in as well from, let me just get your name
- 19:56Speaker 1: on WhatsApp. Hello, Amanda.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Amanda, you say, morning, Joakim. I live in an HDB
- 20:01Speaker 1: and town council will normally have a monthly pesticide cleaning
- 20:05Speaker 1: for the rubbish chute. Yeah, the, uh, fogging. Normally they'll
- 20:09Speaker 1: inform the the cleaning date on a letter pasted in
- 20:12Speaker 1: front of the lift lobby, but I totally forget to
- 20:14Speaker 1: look at it. I came home and one day the
- 20:17Speaker 1: floor was infested with dead cockroaches.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I ended up calling my dad to come down and
- 20:23Speaker 1: pick me up and he ended up piggybacking me home.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Mind you, my dad was 68 and I'm a full-grown
- 20:28Speaker 1: 24 year old woman, but luckily I'm petite. Aiyo! I mean,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it's a core memory for you, Amanda, but in a very, uh, yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 1: interesting manner. Going to our phone lines at 669-119-87. Carrie,
- 20:43Speaker 1: what's your story?
- 20:46Speaker 1: OK, so give me a scenario where this has happened before. OK,
- 20:50Speaker 1: at home, obviously, you know, you walk into the kitchen,
- 20:53Speaker 1: there's a cockroach crawling, and then after that, I will
- 20:57Speaker 1: like freak out and then I'll go and look for him,
- 20:59Speaker 1: scream for him. But then I think he's scared as well.
- 21:03Speaker 1: But then he has to master his courage in front
- 21:05Speaker 1: of me. Yeah. Can I ask, has there ever been
- 21:08Speaker 1: a situation where he's not at home? How do you
- 21:11Speaker 1: handle it? Yes, yes, yes, uh, my kids.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I asked my daughter, is not very reliable. Yeah, my
- 21:21Speaker 1: daughter is better. She will pretend to take like, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: a crushed up paper and then she will wait there.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Uh, wait, yeah, and then I'll walk away. So I
- 21:30Speaker 1: don't know what happened to whatever cockroach or lizard. Yeah,
- 21:34Speaker 1: I see. Well done to your daughter then. Thank you
- 21:36Speaker 1: so much for your call. You take care, OK, Carrie.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Thank you. Bye-bye. Have a good day. Keep the calls
- 21:41Speaker 1: coming in over at 669-11-987. You can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 21:47Speaker 1: In a time of an emergency. When I say emergency,
- 21:50Speaker 1: I mean a cockroach or a lizard or a moth, bee, anything. Caterpillar.
- 21:58Speaker 1: When you see it, and you're not brave enough to
- 22:00Speaker 1: confront it, who do you call? 669-11987. Let us know,
- 22:04Speaker 1: or 900-50987. Again, if you do like your answer, what's
- 22:08Speaker 1: coming your way, a nice dining experience for two worth
- 22:11Speaker 1: over $300 to Racine, Singapore Airlines Singapore.
- 22:15Speaker 1: For Grand Prix, it's Zara Larson. No, she's not racing.
- 22:18Speaker 1: She's performing, I think, at the Padang stage, if I'm
- 22:21Speaker 1: not wrong, a song called Lush Life on 987, your
- 22:24Speaker 1: number one hit music station. Joakim Girma is here with you. So,
- 22:27Speaker 1: inspired by a story I read on the news and
- 22:30Speaker 1: even this video that I saw as well, a village
- 22:33Speaker 1: in Rajasthan, India, a shopkeeper was just minding his own
- 22:37Speaker 1: business and all of a sudden a leopard enters his store.
- 22:40Speaker 1: The leopard almost mauls him, but thank God he was
- 22:42Speaker 1: able to get out in time and he closed the
- 22:44Speaker 1: store's shutters to trap the leopard inside. So I'm not
- 22:48Speaker 1: too sure what the update is for the leopard. Hopefully
- 22:50Speaker 1: it was captured humanely and released in the wild, far
- 22:54Speaker 1: away from where the shop was. I think the leopard
- 22:56Speaker 1: was lost, to be honest with you, but I'm gonna
- 22:58Speaker 1: downsize it to a.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Singaporean context when it comes to creepy crawlies, who do
- 23:02Speaker 1: you call for help? Really? Gonna go to WhatsApp 90050987.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Wanna say good morning to Jovian. Jovian says, Hey Joakim,
- 23:11Speaker 1: this sounds funny and wasteful, but two years ago it
- 23:15Speaker 1: happened to our family at 2 a.m. I was working
- 23:17Speaker 1: in the living room and I heard a noise like
- 23:21Speaker 1: something was scratching like.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. So out of curiosity, I went
- 23:26Speaker 1: to investigate. I found out it was a cat that
- 23:28Speaker 1: went into our shoe cabinet. We tried to fish the
- 23:31Speaker 1: cat out but we failed. None of us were brave
- 23:34Speaker 1: enough to grab it. Ended up we called the friendly police.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Must have been the best call the Abang police or
- 23:44Speaker 1: the sister police would have received. They came and tried
- 23:48Speaker 1: and asked for food, and it works. Just a can
- 23:50Speaker 1: of tuna and the cat happily walked out. Just not
- 23:53Speaker 1: a pleasant yet funny experience for wasting police resources. Also,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I wanna say hello to Angela. Angela says, morning Joakim.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Before I got married, it used to be my dad.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Now that I have my own home, I rely on
- 24:06Speaker 1: my husband, but if he ain't around, I'll dispatch.
- 24:09Speaker 1: My 5 cats, 3 of my cats used to be strays,
- 24:13Speaker 1: so it is second nature to them. One of their
- 24:15Speaker 1: kill count is like 2 beetles, 3 cockroaches, 1 lizard,
- 24:18Speaker 1: and most recently 1 grasshopper. But of course, I'll wait
- 24:22Speaker 1: for my husband to do the disposal. Well, there you go.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I have Yana on the line. Yana, who do you call?
- 24:27Speaker 1: So
- 24:28Speaker 2: I will probably call my pet cat. So there is
- 24:31Speaker 2: this bug called June bug. I mean, I'm, I'm sure
- 24:35Speaker 2: a lot of Singaporeans have.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Experiences, but this bug, this brown, it's not a ladybug,
- 24:40Speaker 2: but this thing will just fly around, hit against the
- 24:43Speaker 2: wall and just die eventually.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Yes, I know the sound is very loud,
- 24:48Speaker 2: very loud, yes. So one time, uh this bugger just
- 24:52Speaker 2: flew onto my head and I had to call my
- 24:55Speaker 2: cat to rescue me.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So how does your rescue you?
- 25:00Speaker 2: I would just take his head and just, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 2: hit on my own hair.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah,
- 25:07Speaker 1: so cute. What's your cat's name?
- 25:09Speaker 2: Lo,
- 25:10Speaker 1: Loki, what a yang. Thank you so much for your call.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Take care, OK, Yana. Bye-bye. Keep the calls coming in
- 25:18Speaker 1: over at 669-11-987 or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Just about enough time to read out a few more texts.
- 25:27Speaker 1: When it comes to creepy crawlies here in Singapore, who
- 25:30Speaker 1: do you call to rescue you? Inspired by an upsized version,
- 25:34Speaker 1: how about a leopard?
- 25:35Speaker 1: In a small village in Rajasthan, India, a shopkeeper just
- 25:39Speaker 1: minding his own store, minding his own business. All of
- 25:41Speaker 1: a sudden a leopard enters his store, almost mauls the fella.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Thank God he was able to get out and close
- 25:47Speaker 1: the shutters, and if you have time, you can go
- 25:50Speaker 1: watch the video on TikTok or on Instagram reels. I
- 25:53Speaker 1: think it's captured on CCTV. Now, I wanna go to
- 25:57Speaker 1: WhatsApp and say good morning to Hamir. Hamir, you say morning, Joakim.
- 26:02Speaker 1: There was one time there was a cockroach at my home.
- 26:04Speaker 1: My wife and I are terribly afraid of it, but
- 26:07Speaker 1: my daughter isn't. She just took my slipper outside and
- 26:10Speaker 1: crushed it. We were stunned. Shame on us. Until now,
- 26:13Speaker 1: we are still very embarrassed with ourselves. Wanna say hello
- 26:16Speaker 1: to Irfan. Irfan says, morning Joakim at 987. I have
- 26:20Speaker 1: to be honest, for me, I have a big fear
- 26:22Speaker 1: of cockroaches. So every time at home, when I want
- 26:26Speaker 1: to throw rubbish, when I want to shower, if I
- 26:28Speaker 1: see that thing crawling anywhere near me.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I will call my superhero wife. She will be the
- 26:34Speaker 1: one who handles it so much for being a man, right?
- 26:37Speaker 1: No lah. You know what? We, we all have a
- 26:40Speaker 1: fear of something. Look at me. Cockroaches and lizards. I'm
- 26:43Speaker 1: OK with, but I fear crows. But crows, I tell you,
- 26:46Speaker 1: you know, yesterday on my grab on the way to
- 26:50Speaker 1: work when I passed by Bishan CC, I actually saw
- 26:53Speaker 1: an uncle.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Having a huge rice pack, feeding the crows at 6 a.m. plus,
- 26:59Speaker 1: or rather 5:45 a.m. plus in the morning, I wound
- 27:02Speaker 1: down the window and I shout, Oi, stop feeding the birds.
- 27:05Speaker 1: The uncle ren lah. Yeah, I wish I caught it
- 27:07Speaker 1: on camera. Oh no, I'm becoming the kind of Singaporean
- 27:10Speaker 1: that records things on cameras and then go to the
- 27:12Speaker 1: one service app.
- 27:14Speaker 1: When we come back, let's pick a winner of the
- 27:17Speaker 1: very nice Racine dining experience. Wanna say a big thank
- 27:20Speaker 1: you for all your calls and all your texts, but
- 27:23Speaker 1: as always, we pick one winner and you always give
- 27:27Speaker 1: Sonia and I a headache, especially on a day like this,
- 27:29Speaker 1: where we have plenty of calls and WhatsApp messages coming
- 27:32Speaker 1: in over at 90050987. In case you missed it, it
- 27:37Speaker 1: was inspired by this leopard entering a shop.
- 27:40Speaker 1: In Rajasthan, India, and thankfully nobody was hurt. So I
- 27:44Speaker 1: downsized it and I said, if a situation like this
- 27:47Speaker 1: were to happen to you, when it comes to a
- 27:49Speaker 1: cockroach or a lizard or a creepy crawly here in Singapore,
- 27:52Speaker 1: who do you call to rescue you? Loads of answers
- 27:54Speaker 1: I got saying my cat, my husband, someone said my wife.
- 27:59Speaker 1: It's OK, Irfan. No one's judging. But I wanna give
- 28:02Speaker 1: today's winning prize, today's prize rather, to Jovian who texted
- 28:06Speaker 1: us earlier. Jovian.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Jovian sharing how a cat actually entered his shoe cabinet.
- 28:14Speaker 1: The entire family wasn't too brave in grabbing it out.
- 28:17Speaker 1: They tried to lure it out. No, they called the
- 28:19Speaker 1: police lah.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Jovian, whoever the officers were that came down to your house,
- 28:24Speaker 1: you bring them for this meal over at Sophieel Singapore
- 28:28Speaker 1: City Center. It's a very nice traits heritage buffet. We're
- 28:31Speaker 1: giving you a dining experience for two worth over $300.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Enjoy yourself. If you go to any girl group, maybe
- 28:40Speaker 1: K-pop group as well.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Singaporean girl group, Indonesian girl group, everywhere around the world.
- 28:47Speaker 1: If you ask them, oh, name us your inspiration, you know,
- 28:50Speaker 1: what's behind your dance moves and all that, chances are,
- 28:53Speaker 1: they might say, Destiny's Child. If you're wondering who Destiny's
- 28:57Speaker 1: Child are, it's the trio made up of Beyonce, Kelly,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and Michelle.
- 29:03Speaker 1: And this is where I give you news. I'm gonna
- 29:06Speaker 1: give you a massive throwback of all throwbacks. Of course,
- 29:10Speaker 1: who can forget Destiny's Child, one of their hit singles,
- 29:12Speaker 1: Say My Name.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And how about Lose My Breath?
- 29:29Speaker 1: Or respectfully, bootylicious.
- 29:38Speaker 1: If you're wondering, hey, Joakim, why are you giving us
- 29:40Speaker 1: a massive throwback? Destiny's Child, they have not been in
- 29:43Speaker 1: action for very long. This is where I correct you.
- 29:47Speaker 1: They were actually known as a different name in the
- 29:49Speaker 1: year 1990, and then in the year 1996, they rebranded
- 29:56Speaker 1: themselves as Destiny's Child. This year being 2026, they are
- 30:00Speaker 1: celebrating 30 years and there is a huge rumor.
- 30:05Speaker 1: That there could be new music coming out from Destiny's Child, wow! OK.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I'm down. I, I'm down if you're down because they
- 30:15Speaker 1: could be releasing remixes, a bit of urban dance tracks,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and perhaps a new single. Whether it will be part
- 30:23Speaker 1: of a new album, it remains to be seen, but yes,
- 30:26Speaker 1: congratulations to Destiny's Child, 30 years now, and their music
- 30:31Speaker 1: still lives on. So with the Hungarian Grand Prix gonna
- 30:34Speaker 1: start this weekend and hopefully you enjoy the race on
- 30:37Speaker 1: Sunday at 9 p.m. We are about what?
- 30:41Speaker 1: 2 to 3 months away to the Singapore Grand Prix.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And if you're still wondering about the lineup on Friday
- 30:49Speaker 1: at the Padang and WAF stages, you got the likes
- 30:52Speaker 1: of Split Enz, CITIs, they've got the Formula One Drivers
- 30:56Speaker 1: Fan Forum, and JJ Linn takes the stage. On Saturday,
- 31:02Speaker 1: the likes of the Goo Goo Dolls, Zara Larsson.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And the Killers will be on stage. And on Sunday,
- 31:08Speaker 1: Lana Del Rey, James Arthur, and Janet Jackson. And for
- 31:13Speaker 1: the DJs on Friday, we got DJ Snake, only one
- 31:16Speaker 1: of the best DJs in the world. You got to
- 31:17Speaker 1: watch him live. We got Major Lazer, we've got Toy Monster,
- 31:22Speaker 1: the likes of Hio, and on Sunday, Mark Ronson and Jew,
- 31:26Speaker 1: they will be spinning the night away if you want
- 31:28Speaker 1: to go enjoy.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Enjoy the Formula One lineup and not forgetting, of course,
- 31:32Speaker 1: the Formula One race that we have here in Singapore. OK,
- 31:35Speaker 1: if you're a football fan, if you can, and if
- 31:38Speaker 1: you feel compelled to, please support our boys in red
- 31:42Speaker 1: for the AFF championship, which kicks off tonight. We have
- 31:46Speaker 1: an away game to Cambodia next Monday, twenty-seventh of July.
- 31:51Speaker 1: We are at home against Timor-Leste at the Jala.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Basar Stadium. Tickets are still available, though limited. And then
- 31:58Speaker 1: next Friday, 31st July, we are away to Vietnam, and
- 32:03Speaker 1: then 7th of August. It's an age-old rivalry, Singapore against Indonesia.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I think it's so age-old to the point where tickets
- 32:11Speaker 1: are sold out already. So thank you very much for
- 32:13Speaker 1: doing that. Well done to you if you bought tickets
- 32:15Speaker 1: to support our boys. Yes.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Come on team Singapore, come on Harris and Co. Just
- 32:22Speaker 1: do well, play well, and make us all proud. And
- 32:26Speaker 1: there is a piece of update when it comes to
- 32:28Speaker 1: the jerseys for our national team, and this is very
- 32:32Speaker 1: timely because it's just before National Day. You would know
- 32:35Speaker 1: that the current jersey sponsors are Nike.
- 32:38Speaker 1: If you follow Adidas Singapore on Instagram, you would have
- 32:42Speaker 1: seen they've started teasing a few things already when it
- 32:45Speaker 1: comes to the next jersey that our boys would wear,
- 32:49Speaker 1: and hearsay it could be out before National Day. So hopefully,
- 32:52Speaker 1: if you're coming to the National Stadium for NDP 2026,
- 32:56Speaker 1: rather than wear your Liverpool, Manchester United, or Arsenal jerseys,
- 33:00Speaker 1: if you can purchase a Singapore jersey and wear it
- 33:04Speaker 1: for NDP 2026. It'll be beautiful to see.
