- 0:00Sam from the Yukon Football Coaches Show Here on lear Field Mike Crispino joined by
- 0:05Jim Moore as the Huskies get set for the finale up in Amherst against U
- 0:11Mass on the weekend. Jim let's review a little bit of what happened last
- 0:15weekend as the Huskies got back in a win. Callum, you take out
- 0:18sacred heart, you hold them without a touchdown. I mean, wins a
- 0:22win no matter what happens. Is it good for the team and the well
- 0:26being almost to get a victory and kind of pay off a little bit of
- 0:30that hard work you've been putting in. Absolutely, you know these guys have
- 0:37They've they've worked their tails off and they've kept a great attitude and you know
- 0:44they've just stayed in rather than you know, some guys going half in,
- 0:49half out, and I'm proud of them for that. And so they get
- 0:52a win. You know, it's obviously a good feeling for him, and
- 0:57you know it's an in state team. I think that adds a little bit
- 1:00to it. And you always come back with a little bit, probably a
- 1:03little bit more energy after a win. But having said that, you come
- 1:07back a little more energy after win. I've been so proud of where guys
- 1:10have come back every week regardless of winner loss. Yeah, later in the
- 1:14show, we talked to Kylie Hicks and Jackson Mitchell and all your guys have
- 1:19that same approach, which I love. They just go, we're going one
- 1:23and zero this week. That's it. That's what we're aiming for. And
- 1:26I'm assuming that comes from you and the coaching staff, but it certainly is
- 1:30absorbed by the players. That's been my experience over the weeks. We just
- 1:34try to have a consistent message and a consistent approach each week with regards to
- 1:40our mindset and come back, you know on a Sunday night or Monday,
- 1:46when we get back to work on an ext opponent with that one and no
- 1:49mentality those guys mentioned and so you know, you telling me that you've heard
- 1:53that tells me that the message's getting through and they're absorbing it and they're bleeding
- 1:59in it. And uh, I think that's what you have to you have
- 2:01to do, you know when you're when you're striving to build something or you're
- 2:07even striving to maintain something. And uh so it's good to know that our
- 2:12players are understanding of that. Philosophy, you're more with us and the U
- 2:16COM football coaches show coach big picture for a minute here. When you took
- 2:22the job, you knew where the program was. I mean only four wins
- 2:24and three years, a lot of routes, wasn't competitive, all that stuff.
- 2:30What what was your thought process in terms of what you would you know,
- 2:32try to accomplish and how long it would take and what kind of progression
- 2:37you could make. Because today's football in colleges is like year to year almost
- 2:43is very difficult to build programs because guys are moving in and out of programs
- 2:46all the time. Yeah, you know, I mean it's become become difficult
- 2:51as you just mentioned, uh, and then it's not going to get any
- 2:54easier. It's something we all have to adjust to and we are My expectations,
- 3:01I can't really define them for you. You know, I'm kind of
- 3:05a I think, like our players said, you know, I'm a one
- 3:07to O kind of guy, and I want to win the one that we're
- 3:10playing. And so I know that it was a call task. I think
- 3:19that, you know, maybe to a certain extent, we exceeded expectations that
- 3:23first year and maybe a little cold reality hit us this year, but I
- 3:29do see us moving in the right direction. I think it's always dangerous when
- 3:34you say that and you're sitting there at two and nine, because it seems
- 3:38like you're making an excuse up or it's an empty statement. But I look
- 3:42at the day in and day out progress of the football team independent of the
- 3:46score, and I see a better team. I see a more consistent team.
- 3:49I see a more disciplined team. So we now need to take the
- 3:53next step, which is, you know, we win some games early last
- 3:58year, we struggled to win games early. Should we struggle to win games
- 4:00early? And then we've got to have a consistency of performance every week.
- 4:04And you know, I use the way word performance because I think that when
- 4:09you use the word play for a level, consistent level of play, you're
- 4:13putting the onus, all on the players, and really it's all of us
- 4:15involved in this program that have to make it successful. So to me,
- 4:19performance is a better better word to use in that case. And having said
- 4:25that, there have been some interesting and good developments. I think individually on
- 4:30the field, you have a better take on it, I'm sure. But
- 4:32let's begin with the quarterback. Take Kwan Robson twenty two for thirty five.
- 4:38Last week, he's thrown for over two hundred yards now six times. He
- 4:42gets four touchdown passes and no interceptions, and that's certainly an improvement in that
- 4:46category after the previous two weeks. We've been talking about them pretty much every
- 4:50week. You always talk about quarterbacks. What are you seeing? Where is
- 4:55he right now? Ten games in now under your tutelagion, Well, a
- 5:00games in really in his kind of his college career as a starter, because
- 5:04he didn't play a lot prior to coming here. He won the job last
- 5:08year, started that first game that got hurt. So what I see is
- 5:11tremendous improvement. And the encouraging thing is I see tremendous potential for improvement beyond
- 5:16what he's done so far. He had four touchdown passes the other day,
- 5:20and you know he missed he missed some throws that maybe could have been big
- 5:26ones as well, and you know every quarterback is going to miss some throws.
- 5:29But I just see a guy that works hard every week, is very
- 5:34anxious to improve every week, does the things that are asked him every week,
- 5:41and becomes more and more consistent. And so that's exciting for us.
- 5:45Yeah, I'm just guessing here a little bit watching him play now over the
- 5:47last ten weeks. If there's an area to improve on quarterbacks now in the
- 5:53game College and NFL two. Got to be accurate throwing on a run.
- 5:57That's hard to do. What do you do to prove that? I mean,
- 6:00is that a practice thing? Is that a game learning experience? What
- 6:03is that? I think it starts with practice, you know, putting him
- 6:06on the move and practice and you know, just like you know, you
- 6:12used to have a three step, a five step of seven step drop,
- 6:15you know, and it's very defined. Now the game's a little bit more
- 6:17unpredictable in terms of throwing you know, out of the pocket or what do
- 6:24they call it, off off balance or you know, off platform throws.
- 6:30So you have to drill it, you know, you have to just drill
- 6:32it and drill it and drill it and drill it and get a guy comfortable
- 6:34doing things with his body that don't necessarily feel natural and take one as an
- 6:40athletic guy, you can do that. So it's just continuing, like I
- 6:44said, just to grow as a player and to put him in situations that
- 6:47maybe he's not comfortable with initially, but he'll become comfortable with them as he
- 6:51as he experiences him, and that'll help him become a better player, and
- 6:55that's a better team. Yeah real. I like the development of Take One,
- 6:58no question about it. Take a Quick Break Football Coaches Show continues here on Liarfield
