- 0:58Speaker 1: about a year. Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 2: The last time we were here, we were in the attic.
- 1:01Speaker 2: And you were talking about coming to this place at
- 1:03Speaker 2: the time. But I remember we arrived and sprinted to
- 1:09Speaker 2: the studio. We recorded, and then I went right back.
- 1:12Speaker 2: It was such a whirlwind. But that was a great experience, man.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm going to be back here, man. Yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So just a quick introduction, not that you need one,
- 1:21Speaker 1: but former Navy SEAL turned master storyteller, captivating millions with

- 1:31Speaker 1: 10 million YouTube subs. Wow, dude. Creator of the wildly
- 1:36Speaker 1: popular Mr. Bollum podcast, which has redefined storytelling, a New
- 1:40Speaker 1: York Times bestselling author, that's new since the last time,
- 1:45Speaker 1: with your first graphic novel hitting the top of the
- 1:48Speaker 1: charts and the second one, Where Nightmares Live, fresh off
- 1:52Speaker 1: the press. You just sent me that. Thank you. An
- 1:56Speaker 1: innovator in content creation, launching new formats like Storytime with Mr.

- 2:05Speaker 1: consideration for a Golden Globe nomination.
- 2:09Speaker 2: You too, dude. Yeah, you as well. We both almost
- 2:12Speaker 2: got nominated.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Isn't that fucking wild?
- 2:14Speaker 2: Dude, it's crazy.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Did you ever? No.
- 2:17Speaker 2: All the awards that we get, people don't know this,
- 2:21Speaker 2: but you shamelessly put in for your own awards. I
- 2:23Speaker 2: should win this award. This is the first time that
- 2:27Speaker 2: they're like, we've designated you could win this award. That
- 2:31Speaker 2: was cool.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Did you know that was coming? No.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I had no idea. I saw your name, and I
- 2:35Speaker 2: saw our podcast, and I was like, that's amazing. Because
- 2:38Speaker 2: I had no idea. Is that wild, dude?
- 2:40Speaker 1: Two seals.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Look at that, dude. Just carving our own path post-service, dude.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Love it. Love it.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I love it. Are you going? Are you going to
- 2:48Speaker 1: go no matter what?
- 2:48Speaker 2: I guess I think that they're going to nominate like six.
- 2:51Speaker 2: So there's 25 of us, 25 shows. And I think
- 2:55Speaker 2: it's like six get nominated and then obviously one wins.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Pretty sick to get nominated, show up in like a
- 3:01Speaker 2: flannel tuxedo or something. On the red carpet.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Nice, nice.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, but I would definitely go to that.
- 3:06Speaker 1: That blew me. I had no idea that, I think
- 3:09Speaker 1: this is the first year they're even doing podcasts. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: I was like, holy shit.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Look at us, dude, mainstream.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy?
- 3:15Speaker 2: We're making it, dude. Yeah, it feels like totally insane.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Well, if I see you there, I'll see you there, hopefully. But,
- 3:21Speaker 1: all right, let's get, so we're going to do some
- 3:23Speaker 1: story time, some updates with you. But first, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: everybody gets a gift. Usually I give the gummy bears.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I'm going to switch it up. We got these. You're
- 3:32Speaker 1: going to like these, dude. And we got our campfire
- 3:35Speaker 1: session tonight.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah, dudes.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Look at this. Vigilance Elite S'more Bites.
- 3:39Speaker 2: S'more Bites, dude. All right. I'm sure the camera, there's
- 3:41Speaker 2: like 700 cameras to show.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Dude, you got to try those. I got
- 3:46Speaker 1: the gummy.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Bears last time. Those were excellent. I smashed them immediately.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I got you another thing, too. Yeah, I can see.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Because last time, I didn't get to do this because,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know, we were in a hurry, but I think
- 3:57Speaker 1: you'll enjoy this one. So I got a buddy over
- 3:59Speaker 1: at SIG. His name's Jason. Wow. Huge fan of yours.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I think you're going to like it. You got any guesses?
- 4:08Speaker 2: I think I can guess.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Well, SIG Action, dude, thank.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You so much.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You know what that is?
- 4:14Speaker 2: That's SIG 226.
- 4:15Speaker 1: That is the updated SIG 226X Legion.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Dude, this is freaking beautiful, man. Thank you.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You like it? Yeah, dude.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I actually, I've been meaning to get a. 226 because
- 4:30Speaker 2: that's what we shot in the teams. I think they
- 4:32Speaker 2: went to a Glock now.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But in the teams, it was a P226. Dude, this
- 4:37Speaker 2: is beautiful. Is this even out yet? Is this like
- 4:39Speaker 2: the newest thing?
- 4:40Speaker 1: It's out. I think it is the newest. I don't know.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Dude, this is.
- 4:45Speaker 3: It's out i don't know sig cranks a lot of
- 4:47Speaker 3: guns out but dude thank you so much man yeah
- 4:50Speaker 3: man you're welcome holy cow man we'll have to uh
- 4:53Speaker 3: break that thing in on the break hell yeah dude
- 4:55Speaker 3: thank you so much my pleasure i have a much
- 4:58Speaker 3: lamer gift for you oh i love gifts it's not
- 5:03Speaker 3: a sick pistol.
- 5:06Speaker 2: But here you go what do.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We got here Definitely some clothing in there.
- 5:16Speaker 2: There you go, dude.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And maybe a boot.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think you already got the book. It's the new book.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Nice. It's signed in the inside there.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Where Nightmares Live. Yep.
- 5:26Speaker 2: A new anthology.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Dude, I love this, man. Like, this comics.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah, dude. That's a labor of love for sure. Put
- 5:34Speaker 2: those together.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Very cool. Yep.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And then the flannel. Oh. The flannel. So I got
- 5:40Speaker 2: to give you the... I don't know if you dabble
- 5:43Speaker 2: in flannels. I obviously do. And I'm not sponsored in
- 5:47Speaker 2: any way by this brand, but Faraday brand, which you
- 5:50Speaker 2: may have already heard about.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I know about these guys.
- 5:52Speaker 2: They make the best flannels. And that to me, and
- 5:56Speaker 2: if you see, I got your own color there. So
- 5:58Speaker 2: it's not like I'm not giving you like the red
- 6:00Speaker 2: one where I wear it. You can wear that in
- 6:02Speaker 2: real life.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And it's just normal. You can wear that in real life. Dude,
- 6:08Speaker 1: this is nice.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Thank you, man. And they don't wrinkle. You can just
- 6:10Speaker 2: throw them in a bag. love it you know so
- 6:13Speaker 2: there you go it's like it's pretty equal to a
- 6:16Speaker 2: sick p226 hey hey this is gorgeous man thank you
- 6:22Speaker 2: so much you're welcome you're welcome that's that's nuts man
- 6:24Speaker 2: you know actually i haven't shot since 2017 like i
- 6:30Speaker 2: got out of the teams i got out of the
- 6:31Speaker 2: teams in 2017 that's like.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Eight years you haven't shot a gun no Are you
- 6:36Speaker 1: anti-gun now?
- 6:37Speaker 2: No, I just haven't.
- 6:39Speaker 1: No, I'm not.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I just have not shot it. So I got out
- 6:42Speaker 2: and I like dove into like entrepreneurship, you know, and like,
- 6:46Speaker 2: that's all I wanted. Because for me, my story is like,
- 6:49Speaker 2: I got medically retired in 2017, but the timeline was
- 6:54Speaker 2: shifted pretty aggressively. It was like, hey, you know, you're
- 6:58Speaker 2: going to get medically retired in part because of the
- 7:00Speaker 2: injury I sustained in Afghanistan. I had some mental stuff
- 7:02Speaker 2: going on and they're like, yep, you're going to get
- 7:04Speaker 2: med boarded out. But they gave me, I wanna say
- 7:07Speaker 2: it was like over a year was my expected, like,
- 7:10Speaker 2: this is when you'll leave the military by date. But
- 7:12Speaker 2: it just got moved way, way up really quickly, still
- 7:16Speaker 2: got medically retired. And so for the folks who don't know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: you get a retirement check. you leave and you have
- 7:22Speaker 2: some level of income, but it wasn't a lot. And
- 7:25Speaker 2: so I was suddenly out with kids and a wife
- 7:29Speaker 2: and like no plan. I was like, oh, in a year,
- 7:31Speaker 2: I'll figure it out when I get out, because my
- 7:34Speaker 2: retirement date's over there, I'll figure it out. And so
- 7:36Speaker 2: when I got out, I had to like, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 2: find a job. And it was sort of ironic in
- 7:41Speaker 2: my effort to, find a job for myself, I began
- 7:44Speaker 2: like networking a lot and like meeting people in the
- 7:47Speaker 2: city and like in New York. And I ended up
- 7:50Speaker 2: sort of putting together these networking events with the help
- 7:52Speaker 2: of this guy, Jordan, who I met in the city.
- 7:53Speaker 2: He's a former investment banker, not a veteran, he's a civilian.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And we put together these amazing networking events. that were
- 8:00Speaker 2: actually for me to like meet employers and like get
- 8:03Speaker 2: a job. But we brought other veterans to these events.
- 8:07Speaker 2: We brought other employers and everyone's like, wow, what a
- 8:10Speaker 2: great service this is. And nobody was approaching me to
- 8:13Speaker 2: get a job because they're like, oh, this is his job.
- 8:15Speaker 2: He runs this like networking event. And I ended up
- 8:18Speaker 2: doing that. And so I created a job that helped
- 8:21Speaker 2: other people get jobs. And then shortly after that, I
- 8:24Speaker 2: got into the Mr. Mullen thing and Honestly, dude, it's just,
- 8:28Speaker 2: there's another critical part of this. I sleepwalk like a maniac.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And so my wife has always been like, I'm worried
- 8:34Speaker 2: that you're going to like shoot me. And so like
- 8:37Speaker 2: in that, well, don't worry. I have a place to
- 8:39Speaker 2: keep this. I've been thinking about it. And so she
- 8:42Speaker 2: has been anti-gun crazy. Because I, did I tell you
- 8:45Speaker 2: about my prolific sleepwalking?
- 8:47Speaker 1: I think you did.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I have. So this is according to ChatGPT. So this
- 8:51Speaker 2: is not a true diagnosis, but I've gone to sleep studies.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I've asked, I mean, I've seen sleep doctors and no
- 8:58Speaker 2: one can figure out what's going on. Basically, I go
- 9:00Speaker 2: to bed and within about 30 minutes of falling asleep,
- 9:04Speaker 2: I am up. This is most nights.
- 9:06Speaker 1: This is the majority of nights.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:08Speaker 2: That's probably a stretch. It's at least two or three
- 9:11Speaker 2: times a week, at least. I wake up. and I'm
- 9:15Speaker 2: in this half stupor. I sleep by myself. I have
- 9:17Speaker 2: alarms set to the room that I sleep in that
- 9:20Speaker 2: Antonio is here, who's my security guy. He sets special
- 9:23Speaker 2: alarms on the doors that lead out of the house
- 9:26Speaker 2: from my room. So if I bolt at night, he's
- 9:29Speaker 2: alerted to it. And so I jump out of bed
- 9:32Speaker 2: and I start running screaming, what the fuck is going on?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Are you serious? Dude, it's like, it's crazy. And so
- 9:40Speaker 2: to me, it's so normal, but I'm like, oh, like
- 9:42Speaker 2: I've been doing, I was doing this in the teams.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Like in Afghanistan, I was doing this, but like, I
- 9:47Speaker 2: don't know how I got in. But like, so I
- 9:51Speaker 2: get out of the military and that was like the
- 9:52Speaker 2: one thing my wife was like, you can't have a
- 9:54Speaker 2: gun in the house. You're going to like do something
- 9:55Speaker 2: crazy with it. So it's a combination of get out
- 9:58Speaker 2: full civilian, full armed But it's funny. I was actually
- 10:02Speaker 2: going to say to you, like, it's the one thing
- 10:04Speaker 2: that I have let completely fall off. It's just shooting.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And like, that's, I was going to ask you, like,
- 10:09Speaker 2: how often are you shooting? Like, is this like a
- 10:11Speaker 2: thing you do every day? Because I feel like I
- 10:13Speaker 2: want to reincorporate shooting into my life, because it's just
- 10:17Speaker 2: something that I haven't done since 2017. Well, we'll start
- 10:20Speaker 2: that today. Dude, I'm playing the fucking worst shot ever
- 10:22Speaker 2: right now, but I want to get back into it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I'm not any good either. In fact, I don't really...
- 10:26Speaker 1: I love shooting guns, but what I really... I'm not
- 10:31Speaker 1: really into, like, all the shit we used to carry
- 10:33Speaker 1: in the SEAL teams. You know what I mean? ARs and, like, black...
- 10:37Speaker 1: It's all good. I like them, but what I really
- 10:40Speaker 1: like now is, like, the old Western shit, like revolvers
- 10:44Speaker 1: and lever actions.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's cool.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Dude, it's a lot of fun.
- 10:48Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But yeah, but I mean, but also like, yeah, I mean,
- 10:53Speaker 1: when I left, you know what I mean? And started,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, my entrepreneur journey, you know, I was in,
- 10:59Speaker 1: it started with tactics.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I remember watching videos of you out in the forest
- 11:04Speaker 2: talking about your everyday carry. They were going like super viral.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So I had to shoot for that. And
- 11:10Speaker 1: then when I, you know, got tired of that shit,
- 11:13Speaker 1: started the podcast, it continued. It kind of fell off until, well,
- 11:18Speaker 1: it didn't kind of fell off. It fell off. But
- 11:20Speaker 1: then we moved here, you know, and we got a
- 11:22Speaker 1: shooting range right off the back patio here. So, but
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm still pretty rusty. Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I mean, I remember in the teams, there were dudes
- 11:31Speaker 2: that just like, what they did is they like really
- 11:33Speaker 2: kept dialed in and you can just see it when
- 11:35Speaker 2: a dude's shooting a lot. It's just, they're so on point.
- 11:38Speaker 2: They're so good. And for me, I was like, I
- 11:40Speaker 2: was good enough to pass the test because I was
- 11:41Speaker 2: a team guy, you know? But I didn't have that
- 11:43Speaker 2: like desire to like really become a great shot. I
- 11:46Speaker 2: think I was like very average, if not below, but
- 11:49Speaker 2: enough for the teams. And now it's like, it became
- 11:53Speaker 2: this daunting task over time. Then like, well, if I
- 11:55Speaker 2: want to get back into it, I got to do
- 11:57Speaker 2: it like discreetly too. I can't like go to an instructor,
- 11:59Speaker 2: be like, yo, I'm a former Navy SEAL. I got
- 12:01Speaker 2: to learn how to shoot again. So I was going
- 12:03Speaker 2: to ask you like, oh, I want to shoot with you.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Oh shit.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. Well, we'll do that on the break, bud. Dude,
- 12:10Speaker 1: Halloween's right around the corner.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Last year, we brought on an exorcist. It was awesome.
- 12:17Speaker 1: That's cool. But you are the storyteller. So let's hear
- 12:22Speaker 1: a story that you think goes along with Halloween, something
- 12:26Speaker 1: that's going to scare the shit out of people.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Yeah, actually, I was thinking about it. So I knew
- 12:32Speaker 2: coming here, that was a big part of this, is
- 12:34Speaker 2: having some stories. And I would say this story I'm
- 12:38Speaker 2: going to tell you is... So I did it actually
- 12:42Speaker 2: on the live tour. I don't think you heard this one, though.
- 12:44Speaker 2: This one was added in. Gets a big reaction from
- 12:48Speaker 2: the crowd. So I've told this in front of thousands
- 12:50Speaker 2: of people. And this one just, it's a great story.
- 12:54Speaker 2: It's a great story. It's a fucking horrible story, but
- 12:57Speaker 2: it is a great story.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It's a fucking horrible story, but it's a great story.
- 13:16Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 13:59Speaker 2: All right. So in 1986, there's this family.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Is this real?
- 14:03Speaker 2: This is totally real.
- 14:04Speaker 1: This is legit? Totally real. Okay.
- 14:07Speaker 2: There's this guy named Frank. and he's got two daughters.
- 14:10Speaker 2: He has an older daughter, this is 1986, this is
- 14:12Speaker 2: in Pepperell, Massachusetts, so then it's Western Mass. He's got
- 14:17Speaker 2: two daughters, he's got a 15-year-old daughter named Tina and
- 14:20Speaker 2: a nine-year-old daughter named Karen. And this is in, again,
- 14:25Speaker 2: the fall of 86, and around this timeframe, this family,
- 14:29Speaker 2: the Bowens family, they had suffered this really awful loss.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So Frank's wife and the two daughters' mother, had passed
- 14:37Speaker 2: away pretty unexpectedly from cancer. So, she came on suddenly,
- 14:41Speaker 2: she passed away, and it was this horrible thing. And so,
- 14:45Speaker 2: this has happened within a few months of when the
- 14:47Speaker 2: story picks up in the fall of 86. However, part
- 14:52Speaker 2: of the dynamic here is that the wife, the mother,
- 14:56Speaker 2: had been, you know, a working mom, and her income
- 14:59Speaker 2: had been meaningful to the household. So, the blue-collar family,
- 15:02Speaker 2: you know, Frank and his wife's income were how they
- 15:05Speaker 2: flowed to the family. And so when she passed, not
- 15:08Speaker 2: only is there, you know, all this grief in the household,
- 15:12Speaker 2: you know, of course, but there's also like a practical issue.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You know, Frank now was 50% of the income is
- 15:18Speaker 2: gone and he needs to find a way to provide
- 15:21Speaker 2: for his family. And so in the immediate aftermath of
- 15:25Speaker 2: her passing, Frank began taking all these extra shifts at
- 15:29Speaker 2: work just to make ends meet, you know, just sort
- 15:31Speaker 2: of what he had to do. But as a product
- 15:34Speaker 2: or a product of that, was that Tina and Karen,
- 15:38Speaker 2: who were sort of just old enough for this to
- 15:39Speaker 2: be okay, they, as they're dealing with this incredible grief
- 15:44Speaker 2: of losing their mom, who they were very close with,
- 15:46Speaker 2: they began finding themselves alone quite a bit at their house,
- 15:51Speaker 2: just alone, putting themselves to bed while their dad is out,
- 15:54Speaker 2: you know, taking late shifts at work. But they accepted this,
- 15:57Speaker 2: you know, it is what it is, you know, their
- 15:59Speaker 2: dad loves them and he's just trying to do the
- 16:02Speaker 2: right thing for the family. So with that as the backdrop,
- 16:05Speaker 2: there was this night where Frank was out at doing
- 16:09Speaker 2: one of these late shifts. This is, again, sometime in
- 16:12Speaker 2: like September of 86, and.
- 16:14Speaker 1: The girls are home.
- 16:16Speaker 2: And the girls, they're so... The death of their mom
- 16:20Speaker 2: is so new in some ways that they haven't quite
- 16:23Speaker 2: moved to the point of acceptance. They still almost feel
- 16:26Speaker 2: like mom's gonna come around the corner. Like, it just
- 16:28Speaker 2: feels unreal that she's gone. And they just felt desperately
- 16:33Speaker 2: that they just wanted to have one more interaction with
- 16:36Speaker 2: their mom. It's like they felt it in their bones.
- 16:39Speaker 2: They just missed her so badly. And so with their
- 16:41Speaker 2: dad gone for the night, the older girl, Tina, the 15-year-old,
- 16:46Speaker 2: she asked the younger girl, Karen, hey, do you wanna
- 16:51Speaker 2: get the Ouija board out and try to contact mom?
- 16:55Speaker 2: So for those who don't know what a Ouija board is.
- 16:57Speaker 1: This is never a good idea.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you know? A Ouija board, it looks sort of
- 17:01Speaker 2: like just a rectangular game board, and it has A
- 17:04Speaker 2: through Z on it, A, B, C, D, all the letters,
- 17:06Speaker 2: the alphabet. It has zero, you know, up to nine,
- 17:09Speaker 2: all the digits. And you put this, it's called a planchette.
- 17:13Speaker 2: It's like this little dial that has felt tips, three prongs,
- 17:16Speaker 2: felt tips that it sits on. And it's got a
- 17:19Speaker 2: little viewfinder on the top of it that you can
- 17:21Speaker 2: look through. It's like a little looking glass down onto
- 17:23Speaker 2: the board. And when you use the Ouija board, if
- 17:26Speaker 2: you believe that this thing works, you know, you and
- 17:29Speaker 2: whoever else, let's take Tina and Karen in this instance,
- 17:32Speaker 2: they would rest their fingertips. They'd typically sit on opposite
- 17:34Speaker 2: sides of the board. They'd rest their fingertips on the
- 17:37Speaker 2: edge of this planchette. And the idea is you don't
- 17:40Speaker 2: move the planchette at all. You just like rest your
- 17:43Speaker 2: fingers on the planchette. And if there's, you know, spirits
- 17:46Speaker 2: in the room, the idea is they will you ask
- 17:50Speaker 2: a question with your fingers, Tina or Karen asks a question,
- 17:52Speaker 2: you know, hey, mom, are you here? You know, their
- 17:54Speaker 2: fingers are on the planchette, and if there's a spirit
- 17:56Speaker 2: in the room, the idea is they will travel through
- 17:58Speaker 2: your body and they'll manipulate your fingertips and they'll move
- 18:01Speaker 2: the planchette around. Part of the reason why Ouija boards
- 18:04Speaker 2: have become so popular is it's so easy, if there's
- 18:07Speaker 2: a group of you, to be the one person that
- 18:08Speaker 2: sort of subtly moves the planchette and give the impression that, like,
- 18:11Speaker 2: there's a ghost in the room. So, it is what
- 18:14Speaker 2: it is. If you believe it or you don't, people
- 18:16Speaker 2: say that, you know, Ouija boards are a way to
- 18:17Speaker 2: talk to the dead.
- 18:18Speaker 1: What do you believe?
- 18:20Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know if the Ouija board works.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I think that there is.
- 18:23Speaker 1: You tried one?
- 18:24Speaker 2: I have tried, yeah.
- 18:25Speaker 1: No shit? Where'd you try it?
- 18:27Speaker 2: So we had one growing up. My sisters and I
- 18:29Speaker 2: would always get out the Ouija board. Now that I'm
- 18:32Speaker 2: thinking about it, that's kind of weird.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Like little.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Me and my sisters as young children are having seances
- 18:40Speaker 2: in our basement. So actually, I'm open to it. I'm
- 18:45Speaker 2: open to it. So anyways, these two... they're like, okay,
- 18:48Speaker 2: you know, we want to try to contact mom. And so,
- 18:52Speaker 2: they get their Ouija board and their little planchette and
- 18:55Speaker 2: they go down into the basement and they literally set
- 18:57Speaker 2: up like a seance. You know, the basement is just
- 18:59Speaker 2: like this blank slab basement. There's a washer dryer, there's
- 19:02Speaker 2: a couple of tools on a shelf, but it's a blank,
- 19:04Speaker 2: you know, concrete slab basement. And they put their Ouija
- 19:08Speaker 2: board down, they light some candles and they sit down
- 19:11Speaker 2: and They put their fingers on the planchette and they
- 19:14Speaker 2: begin asking questions, like sort of to the room, you know, hey, mom,
- 19:17Speaker 2: if you're in here, you know, give us a sign,
- 19:19Speaker 2: you know. And they look at the board and they're
- 19:22Speaker 2: hoping it's going to move, but, you know, nothing happens.
- 19:26Speaker 2: And over the course of the next hour, these girls
- 19:29Speaker 2: tried every combination of question that they could ask, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 2: to try to inspire the spirit of their mother to
- 19:36Speaker 2: come in here and talk to them. But no matter
- 19:38Speaker 2: what they did, they just couldn't get the planchette to move.
- 19:41Speaker 2: And in some ways, it was sort of devastating. You know, they, again,
- 19:45Speaker 2: they're grieving the loss of their mom, they haven't really
- 19:47Speaker 2: come to terms with it, and this felt like hope
- 19:50Speaker 2: You know, mom's gonna come through, we know it, she
- 19:52Speaker 2: loves us, but nothing happens. And so, they end up,
- 19:55Speaker 2: you know, packaging up the Ouija board, and they go
- 19:58Speaker 2: back upstairs, and they go up to the second floor
- 20:01Speaker 2: where their bedrooms are. And by this point, their dad, Frank,
- 20:04Speaker 2: he's still at work, he's gonna be out, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 2: past the time they would go to bed. And Tina's
- 20:09Speaker 2: the sort of older, more responsible one, and she's like, okay,
- 20:12Speaker 2: we need to go to bed. And so the two,
- 20:14Speaker 2: they go up to the second floor, they get ready
- 20:16Speaker 2: for bed, and they go to their respective bedrooms. And
- 20:20Speaker 2: so they get in their beds, the lights are off,
- 20:22Speaker 2: the house is quiet, and they try to go to sleep.
- 20:25Speaker 2: But after maybe only 20 or 30 minutes of laying
- 20:28Speaker 2: in bed, they're both still awake, but they aren't aware
- 20:30Speaker 2: of the other. They're in different rooms, but they're both awake.
- 20:33Speaker 2: There's this tapping noise that begins to start in the house. And,
- 20:37Speaker 2: you know, at first it was sort of subtle, and
- 20:39Speaker 2: both girls would report hearing it. But it wasn't clear
- 20:43Speaker 2: if the tapping noise was, you know, just a house sound.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You know, houses make noises. Is it something outside? Is
- 20:48Speaker 2: it the wind? You know, whatever it was. But more
- 20:51Speaker 2: than that, it was kind of hard to pinpoint if
- 20:53Speaker 2: it was coming from the floor they were on, the
- 20:55Speaker 2: first floor, even the basement. Was it outside? It just
- 20:57Speaker 2: sort of felt like this almost omnipresent tapping sound. And
- 21:03Speaker 2: it wasn't rhythmic. It wasn't, like, consistent. It was sort
- 21:06Speaker 2: of sporadic. but it was constant. So there's a tapping
- 21:09Speaker 2: sound that's sort of just irregular, but constant. And so
- 21:14Speaker 2: it was very, it caught their ear. And so Tina,
- 21:20Speaker 2: the older one, she sort of is, you know, just
- 21:22Speaker 2: doing her best to forget about it and just try
- 21:24Speaker 2: to go to bed. But Karen, the younger one, the nine-year-old,
- 21:28Speaker 2: she can't sleep. She starts feeling worried about this tapping sound.
- 21:31Speaker 2: You know, they've just done a seance in the basement
- 21:33Speaker 2: and now there's tapping in the house. She's a kid,
- 21:35Speaker 2: you know, it's scary. And so, she leaves her bedroom
- 21:38Speaker 2: and she goes, you know, right over to the next
- 21:40Speaker 2: room where Tina is. And Tina's in bed and Karen
- 21:43Speaker 2: goes in and she's like, hey, you know, Tina, do
- 21:45Speaker 2: you hear the tapping sound, you know, in the house?
- 21:48Speaker 2: And Tina's like, yeah, don't worry about it. Like, it's
- 21:50Speaker 2: no big deal. But the two, they're just like sitting
- 21:53Speaker 2: there and Tina's like trying to reassure Karen, but the tapping,
- 21:55Speaker 2: it sort of begins to intensify a little bit. And Tina,
- 22:00Speaker 2: she has this almost epiphany. And she's like, As she's
- 22:04Speaker 2: trying to tell Karen not to worry about it, the
- 22:06Speaker 2: tapping is getting louder. And she's like, you know, what
- 22:09Speaker 2: if that's mom? You know, we were just trying to
- 22:12Speaker 2: contact her. What if the seance worked? What if mom
- 22:18Speaker 2: did hear us? Maybe she's here. Maybe she's in the house.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Maybe she's trying to get in touch with us. Maybe
- 22:23Speaker 2: her tapping is her trying to signal us in some way.
- 22:26Speaker 2: And suddenly that hope that was dashed as their Ouija
- 22:29Speaker 2: board session, you know, their seance hadn't worked, it's all
- 22:32Speaker 2: back now. They're suddenly riveted with this idea that the
- 22:35Speaker 2: sounds they're hearing could be their mom, who they just
- 22:38Speaker 2: want their mom back so bad that they're prepared to
- 22:41Speaker 2: believe anything at this point. Like, oh my God, it's mom.
- 22:44Speaker 2: And so Tina and Karen, they get out of the
- 22:46Speaker 2: bed and they walk into the hallway. Now to this point,
- 22:49Speaker 2: they still can't quite tell where the tapping is coming from,
- 22:52Speaker 2: but by the time they got into the hallway, it's
- 22:54Speaker 2: clear it's not coming from the floor they're on. It's
- 22:56Speaker 2: coming from somewhere downstairs. And so they go into the
- 22:59Speaker 2: dark stairwell in the second floor hallway, and they're looking
- 23:02Speaker 2: down into the stairwell, I should say, that kind of
- 23:04Speaker 2: banks around down to the first floor. And all they
- 23:07Speaker 2: can hear is just this periodic tapping, and it's coming
- 23:09Speaker 2: from somewhere downstairs. And the two girls are standing at
- 23:13Speaker 2: the top of the stairs, like not really sure what
- 23:15Speaker 2: to do. And Tina, the older one, just suddenly goes, hey, mom,
- 23:20Speaker 2: is that you? The tapping stops for a second. And
- 23:24Speaker 2: then they hear a rhythmic... And then there's silence again.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Oh, shit.
- 23:29Speaker 2: So there's a clear response. And the girls, they think
- 23:33Speaker 2: at first that it's something that's... Maybe it's coincidence. It
- 23:37Speaker 2: can't be this immediate. It can't actually really be her.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And so Tina again says, Mom, really? Is that you?
- 23:44Speaker 2: And this time even louder. There's three taps that come
- 23:47Speaker 2: back from somewhere downstairs. Clearly, something, someone... is in the
- 23:52Speaker 2: house and they're interacting with the girls and their dad's
- 23:55Speaker 2: not home. But amazingly, the girls remember their mind state is,
- 24:01Speaker 2: it's mom. This is a good thing. We're excited about this.
- 24:06Speaker 2: To most children, this would be horrifying, but for them
- 24:08Speaker 2: in this part of their lives, this was confirmation that
- 24:11Speaker 2: their mom is here. And it gave them an enormous
- 24:14Speaker 2: amount of courage and happiness, frankly, And they're like, let's
- 24:17Speaker 2: go down, let's go downstairs and see what's going on.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Let's see if we can, maybe mom's down there, who knows, right?
- 24:22Speaker 2: Let's go down there. And so down the steps the
- 24:24Speaker 2: girls go. And as they're going, they're asking more questions
- 24:27Speaker 2: and they're starting to sense that the tapping, which is
- 24:29Speaker 2: louder now, they can kind of tell that it's not
- 24:32Speaker 2: somewhere on the first floor. It actually sounds like it's
- 24:33Speaker 2: coming from the basement potentially. There's a door in their
- 24:36Speaker 2: kitchen on the first floor that leads down to the basement.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And it sort of sounds like the tapping is coming
- 24:39Speaker 2: from down there, maybe even coming on the backside of
- 24:42Speaker 2: that door. but they're going down the stairs and they're
- 24:44Speaker 2: firing off more questions like, mom, like the questions they're
- 24:47Speaker 2: asking are all over the place, but they're asking these questions.
- 24:49Speaker 2: And each time they're getting that three taps in response,
- 24:52Speaker 2: like they're sure it's mom. They get to the kitchen
- 24:55Speaker 2: and now they've pinpointed the tapping is definitely coming from
- 24:57Speaker 2: the basement. The door is shut to the basement. They
- 25:00Speaker 2: go to the door, they open up the basement door
- 25:03Speaker 2: and they're looking down into like this stereotypically, you know,
- 25:06Speaker 2: terrifying basement. It's pitch black, it's wooden creaky stairs. They
- 25:09Speaker 2: can't see anything down there. And despite how confident they
- 25:12Speaker 2: were that like, this is mom, this is where they
- 25:14Speaker 2: drew the line. They're not prepared to go all the
- 25:17Speaker 2: way into the basement where it's like, that's kind of
- 25:18Speaker 2: horror movie territory. But they stood at the top of
- 25:21Speaker 2: the stairs. And for an hour, they asked their mother questions.
- 25:26Speaker 2: In their mind, they're talking to their mom. They're speaking
- 25:28Speaker 2: into the basement and they're asking all sorts of questions.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Do you miss us? Tap, tap, tap. You know, sometimes
- 25:33Speaker 2: they'd get like four or five taps and they began
- 25:35Speaker 2: to think that maybe that meant no. And three meant yes.
- 25:38Speaker 2: But they had this whole thing where they're like, it's mom.
- 25:41Speaker 2: It worked. The seance worked. But after an hour, their
- 25:44Speaker 2: dad's still not home. They've had this unbelievable experience that
- 25:47Speaker 2: they've chalked up to their mom. But then it just
- 25:50Speaker 2: kind of stops. There's no more tapping. No matter what
- 25:52Speaker 2: questions they ask, it just sort of stops. And, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 2: the girls, they stayed awake, you know, because they're sort
- 25:58Speaker 2: of jazzed up by what's happened here. And around this time,
- 26:00Speaker 2: around the time that the tapping has stopped, there's no
- 26:03Speaker 2: more responses. Frank, their dad, comes home. And he's surprised
- 26:06Speaker 2: to see his kids awake in the kitchen. And he's like,
- 26:09Speaker 2: what are you guys doing? And they're like, oh, you
- 26:10Speaker 2: wouldn't believe it, Dad. It's Mom. We had, we got
- 26:13Speaker 2: the Ouija board out at a seance. They kind of
- 26:14Speaker 2: explained the whole thing that happened, but they're so excited
- 26:17Speaker 2: about it. And they're like, Dad, it's, it's Mom. We
- 26:20Speaker 2: were talking to Mom. We know it's her. It has
- 26:22Speaker 2: to be her. And now Frank, you know, Frank also
- 26:25Speaker 2: is in the process of going through what is this unbelievable,
- 26:28Speaker 2: unbelievably bad situation for him. He's lost his wife, he
- 26:32Speaker 2: has to work all these extra shifts, he can't be
- 26:33Speaker 2: around his daughters, he's worried about his kids, and he's
- 26:37Speaker 2: seeing his kids light up and be so excited at
- 26:40Speaker 2: this idea that they're talking to their mom, that even
- 26:43Speaker 2: though he does not think for a second that there's
- 26:45Speaker 2: truth to what he's telling him, he doesn't think that
- 26:47Speaker 2: there was tapping, he doesn't think that their mom was
- 26:49Speaker 2: in the house, he thinks that these are kids who've
- 26:51Speaker 2: lost their mother, and they've come up with some coping mechanism,
- 26:54Speaker 2: which is hearing, you know, random house tapping sounds, and
- 26:57Speaker 2: they've convinced themselves it's their mother. And so without any hesitation,
- 27:00Speaker 2: he just goes, I bet that was your mom. That's wonderful.
- 27:04Speaker 2: You know, she's looking out for you. She'll always be
- 27:06Speaker 2: looking out for you. Your mom is, she's here with
- 27:08Speaker 2: you now. She'll always be here with you. Your mom
- 27:10Speaker 2: loves you. And the girls are so pleased and they
- 27:14Speaker 2: run up to bed, so excited to, you know, go
- 27:16Speaker 2: tell their friends the next day. So they go to
- 27:18Speaker 2: bed and Frank, frankly, doesn't think much of it. He
- 27:21Speaker 2: just is like, my kids are coping with a terrible tragedy.
- 27:24Speaker 2: And if they want to do that, that seems harmless enough.
- 27:27Speaker 2: So he goes to bed. Over the next few days,
- 27:31Speaker 2: the tapping sounds would continue, except they would only be
- 27:35Speaker 2: heard by the girls. Frank would never hear the tapping sound.
- 27:38Speaker 2: The girls would, you know, they'd hear it coming from
- 27:40Speaker 2: the basement, they'd call their dad, he'd listen, and they wouldn't,
- 27:43Speaker 2: there'd be no more taps. It was like they would
- 27:45Speaker 2: disappear when Frank showed up. But oddly enough, the tapping
- 27:48Speaker 2: was no longer just happening at night and just in
- 27:51Speaker 2: the basement. The tapping was sort of happening all over
- 27:54Speaker 2: the house. You know, it would happen outside the front door,
- 27:58Speaker 2: it was in the kitchen, In the girls' bedrooms, it
- 28:00Speaker 2: was everywhere. It was like the tapping was, it was
- 28:03Speaker 2: always that tap, tap, tap when they were talking to it,
- 28:05Speaker 2: but it was like all over the house. But again,
- 28:07Speaker 2: every time they'd hear it, you know, Frank, you know,
- 28:10Speaker 2: wouldn't be privy to it. He couldn't hear it. Frank's
- 28:13Speaker 2: still telling himself that this is a relatively healthy coping mechanism,
- 28:18Speaker 2: that it's not that big of a deal. Um, but, uh,
- 28:23Speaker 2: what ended up happening after about three days is the girls,
- 28:25Speaker 2: they had convinced themselves that this is mom, right? This
- 28:28Speaker 2: is a good thing. Well, by the third day post-seance,
- 28:31Speaker 2: when the tapping is happening a lot, the tapping had
- 28:34Speaker 2: sort of migrated primarily to the girls' bedrooms. And it
- 28:37Speaker 2: was also happening mostly at night now. So by the
- 28:39Speaker 2: third day, it's sort of like all the tapping is
- 28:41Speaker 2: happening in their bedrooms. And it's mainly under their bed.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Like they would hear the sound underneath their bed. And
- 28:47Speaker 2: for the girls, they began to wonder why their mom
- 28:50Speaker 2: would do that. Because it just sort of feels like
- 28:52Speaker 2: almost stereotypically terrifying for a kid. Something's under your bed.
- 28:56Speaker 2: And they began to get this feeling that, Maybe this
- 28:59Speaker 2: isn't mom. Maybe our seance worked, but we didn't bring
- 29:02Speaker 2: mom's spirit into the house. Maybe we brought something malevolent
- 29:06Speaker 2: or just something other. We don't know. And so they're
- 29:09Speaker 2: starting to question if this is really a good thing
- 29:11Speaker 2: or not. And that's what Frank picked up on. It's
- 29:13Speaker 2: been a few days. Frank picks up on that. The
- 29:17Speaker 2: girls no longer view this as a good thing and
- 29:19Speaker 2: it's disrupting their sleep. And they would hear the tapping
- 29:22Speaker 2: in the bed and Frank would come into the room.
- 29:23Speaker 2: There'd be nothing there. He had no explanation, but the
- 29:26Speaker 2: girls are really spooked. And so it was at this
- 29:29Speaker 2: point that Frank began taking a harder stance with this girl.
- 29:32Speaker 2: So around the third night, he just said, look, I
- 29:34Speaker 2: know you're going through it right now, and I understand
- 29:37Speaker 2: that you're dealing with a lot with your mom, but
- 29:40Speaker 2: this isn't okay. Whatever you guys believe you're hearing with
- 29:44Speaker 2: this tapping sound, I'm telling you, you have nothing to
- 29:45Speaker 2: worry about in this house, but it's not happening. You're
- 29:49Speaker 2: working yourself up over nothing and you need to stop it.
- 29:53Speaker 2: And if you can't, I understand, but we're gonna have
- 29:56Speaker 2: to seek out professional help, like grief counseling or something,
- 29:59Speaker 2: because it's not healthy for you all to be living
- 30:01Speaker 2: in fear of a ghost in your house. That, you know,
- 30:05Speaker 2: it's just not okay. The girls are furious. because they
- 30:09Speaker 2: believed up until the third night that their dad accepted
- 30:12Speaker 2: that the taps were real and that maybe it was
- 30:14Speaker 2: their mom. And now he's sort of come out and
- 30:16Speaker 2: been like, I don't believe you and, you know, forget
- 30:18Speaker 2: about it or else you're gonna go to therapy. And
- 30:20Speaker 2: so it sparked, like, real issues between the daughters and
- 30:24Speaker 2: the dad. You know, the dad's really trying to do
- 30:26Speaker 2: his best, but there's real tension here. So following this confrontation,
- 30:30Speaker 2: if you will, between Frank and his daughters, or whatever
- 30:32Speaker 2: you want to call it, the tension between them remained.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And for the girls, they felt like they didn't have
- 30:38Speaker 2: their dad's support anymore. And they started to really be
- 30:40Speaker 2: fearful of even being in their house. Like they didn't
- 30:43Speaker 2: even want to be home anymore. You know, it's like,
- 30:45Speaker 2: it's terrifying when you're there, you hear these tapping sounds.
- 30:48Speaker 2: And so over the next several days, so now we're
- 30:51Speaker 2: looking at like, you know, a week after the seance.
- 30:53Speaker 2: So about a week later, the girls are finding every
- 30:57Speaker 2: excuse to sleep over at friend's house and just be
- 30:59Speaker 2: out of their house. And, you know, they're kind of
- 31:01Speaker 2: jarring with their dad about like, did the tapping sounds
- 31:03Speaker 2: happen or not? but when they're home, they hear the
- 31:05Speaker 2: tapping sounds. And so fast forward about a week, a
- 31:08Speaker 2: week post-seance. And on this particular night, the girls didn't
- 31:13Speaker 2: have a place to go. They didn't have a friend's
- 31:15Speaker 2: house to crash at. Their dad was out working a
- 31:17Speaker 2: late shift. And so they were there in their home
- 31:20Speaker 2: that night and there was nothing they could do about it.
- 31:21Speaker 2: They had to go to bed and just deal with it.
- 31:23Speaker 2: And the tapping is happening, you know, pretty consistently at
- 31:26Speaker 2: this point. Not literally at this point, but it's happening
- 31:29Speaker 2: all the time. And so they're just like, okay, we
- 31:31Speaker 2: just gotta get through the night, you know, whatever. So
- 31:35Speaker 2: the girls are having their dinner in the kitchen, their
- 31:37Speaker 2: dad is at work, and at a certain point, the
- 31:41Speaker 2: tapping starts, and it's coming from the basement. It's not
- 31:43Speaker 2: the three rhythmic tappings, it's just this kind of periodic
- 31:46Speaker 2: tapping that sort of was the precursor to they could
- 31:48Speaker 2: ask questions and get those rapid responses. And Tina looks
- 31:53Speaker 2: over at Karen and she's like, you know, dad doesn't
- 31:55Speaker 2: believe us. And, you know, the last week, every time
- 31:59Speaker 2: this would happen, like, he would never hear it, he
- 32:01Speaker 2: doesn't believe us. Like, we have to look into this. Like,
- 32:05Speaker 2: he's not gonna look into this, we have to. And
- 32:07Speaker 2: so there's active tapping in the basement, the door to
- 32:09Speaker 2: the basement's right off the kitchen. And Karen is starting
- 32:12Speaker 2: to get the sense that Tina's saying, we need to
- 32:14Speaker 2: go into the basement right now and go look. Because
- 32:16Speaker 2: they hadn't done that yet. They had never really actually
- 32:19Speaker 2: investigated the sound.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Would you have gone down there?
- 32:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Would you really?
- 32:24Speaker 2: As a child?
- 32:26Speaker 1: No.
- 32:27Speaker 2: No. I'm sorry. As an adult me now?
- 32:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:30Speaker 2: As a child then? No way. No way.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I'd probably send my wife down. You'll get in there.
- 32:38Speaker 2: And so, Tina, you know, is looking at Karen who
- 32:42Speaker 2: doesn't want to do this, but Tina grabs a knife
- 32:44Speaker 2: off the kitchen counter and she's like, we have to
- 32:46Speaker 2: go into the basement. We got to see what's down there.
- 32:48Speaker 2: And Karen, she doesn't wanna be up here alone. And
- 32:50Speaker 2: so she's trying to tell Tina like, no, we can't
- 32:52Speaker 2: go down there, but she's like, fine. And so she
- 32:54Speaker 2: gets behind Tina and Tina goes over to the door
- 32:56Speaker 2: and the tapping's happening downstairs. And they open up the
- 32:59Speaker 2: basement door and the tapping stops right away. As soon
- 33:02Speaker 2: as the door opens, the tapping stops. It was going
- 33:04Speaker 2: all up until that point, tapping stops. And down the stairs,
- 33:08Speaker 2: the girls go. They walk down into the basement and
- 33:10Speaker 2: the light in the basement was one of those pull
- 33:12Speaker 2: string lights you have to get to in the basement.
- 33:15Speaker 2: And so it's dark in the basement and they're like
- 33:16Speaker 2: wandering through this dark basement to get to the pull string.
- 33:20Speaker 2: They get to the pull string, they pull it and
- 33:21Speaker 2: they're both like totally on edge and they're looking around
- 33:25Speaker 2: and they would later say, you know, on some level
- 33:29Speaker 2: we were like, there's gotta be some logical explanation. Like
- 33:33Speaker 2: for example, a raccoon like got into the house, wouldn't
- 33:37Speaker 2: explain the, responses we're getting with tapping sounds. But as
- 33:40Speaker 2: a human being, we will go to great lengths to
- 33:43Speaker 2: convince ourselves that we are okay in moments of crisis.
- 33:46Speaker 2: A lot of times before you kind of cross the
- 33:48Speaker 2: threshold into, oh my God, this is a horrible crisis,
- 33:51Speaker 2: your brain will say, no, everything's fine. Everything's good. Like
- 33:54Speaker 2: it's just a raccoon and they're kind of hoping for that.
- 33:56Speaker 2: But they get down there, they pull the light and
- 33:58Speaker 2: you know, Tina's got her knife and Karen's like tucked
- 34:00Speaker 2: up behind her. And they're looking around the basement. And
- 34:03Speaker 2: I told you before, there's like nothing in the basement.
- 34:05Speaker 2: There's like a washer and dryer. There's a wood shelf
- 34:09Speaker 2: with some tools on it over here, but there's not
- 34:11Speaker 2: even storage down there. It's just like this vacant open space.
- 34:15Speaker 2: There's nowhere to hide. And there's nothing down there. It
- 34:19Speaker 2: is an utterly vacant space.
- 34:22Speaker 1: It's gotta be a hole in the floor or something.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Well, they looked. They looked all around the basement and
- 34:27Speaker 2: there's nothing there. They're looking for where a raccoon could
- 34:29Speaker 2: have gotten in. But it's like, as they're looking, it's
- 34:33Speaker 2: dawning on them that there isn't a clear answer here.
- 34:37Speaker 2: We've definitely heard the tapping. Dad hasn't, we have. And
- 34:41Speaker 2: we're down here at the source of the tapping in
- 34:45Speaker 2: many ways. And there's nothing. And they've sort of mentally
- 34:49Speaker 2: shifted to it could be malevolent. And so they're having
- 34:52Speaker 2: this big fear response. They're like, okay, we can't be
- 34:55Speaker 2: down here. This is just horrifying. And so they turn
- 35:00Speaker 2: and begin going back upstairs. And as they're walking up,
- 35:04Speaker 2: they notice there's writing on the inside of the stairwell
- 35:08Speaker 2: wall leading up to the first floor. They're walking up
- 35:09Speaker 2: the stairs, and right on the wall, on the basement steps,
- 35:13Speaker 2: written in red is, I'm in your closet. Come find me.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Oh, shit. SimpliSafe is the security sponsor I trust with
- 35:25Speaker 1: my property. Can a home security system really call itself security?
- 35:30Speaker 1: If it only responds once somebody is already inside, there's
- 35:33Speaker 1: now a way you can actually stop someone from entering
- 35:36Speaker 1: your home. Most security systems only react after someone breaks in,
- 35:40Speaker 1: but SimpliSafe, it can stop crime before it starts. Their
- 35:44Speaker 1: AI-powered cameras can help detect threats outside your home and

- 36:40Speaker 1: protect my family, but there's always that one worry in
- 36:43Speaker 1: the back of my head. If I have to use
- 36:46Speaker 1: my firearm in self-defense, who's got my back? The truth
- 36:51Speaker 1: is the justice system isn't always just. I've uncovered story
- 36:56Speaker 1: after story of corruption. Good Americans who did the right thing,
- 37:01Speaker 1: defended their families, and yet still had their lives turned
- 37:05Speaker 1: upside down. And that's why I joined USCCA, the U.S.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Concealed Carry Association. They've helped thousands of responsible gun owners
- 37:16Speaker 1: with legal preparedness, training, and support before and after a
- 37:22Speaker 1: self-defense incident. If you've watched my channel long enough, you
- 37:26Speaker 1: know I've always said preparedness is more than just training
- 37:29Speaker 1: and gear. It's a mindset. And because crime is on
- 37:32Speaker 1: the rise in America, which we can all see, you'll
- 37:37Speaker 1: need more than just a gun to protect yourself. You'll
- 37:39Speaker 1: need a plan. Go to uscca.com slash SRS right now
- 37:44Speaker 1: to learn more. That's uscca.com slash SRS and see how
- 37:51Speaker 1: a membership can give you and your family that peace
- 37:54Speaker 1: of mind you've been looking for before, during, and after
- 37:59Speaker 1: a self-defense situation. Once again, that's uscca.com slash SRS. Do it.
- 38:11Speaker 2: And so the girls see that, and obviously they sprint
- 38:15Speaker 2: out of the basement, they bolt out of the house,
- 38:17Speaker 2: they're very friendly with their neighbor, they run to their neighbor,
- 38:19Speaker 2: they're banging on the door, it's late at night. The
- 38:22Speaker 2: neighbor opens the door, they're like, what's going on? The
- 38:23Speaker 2: girls are hysterical, they're like, oh my God, there's a
- 38:26Speaker 2: ghost in our house, like there's writing on the walls. And,
- 38:29Speaker 2: you know, the neighbor is aware of the fact that
- 38:31Speaker 2: they've lost their mother and like understands that this is
- 38:34Speaker 2: a very difficult time for them. And so no judgment passed,
- 38:38Speaker 2: has no idea what's happening, just says, get in the house,
- 38:40Speaker 2: we're gonna wait for your dad. you know, you stay
- 38:42Speaker 2: here and we'll wait for your dad, you know, and
- 38:44Speaker 2: he'll know what to do. And so the girls, they're
- 38:46Speaker 2: just happy to be away from their own house. Frank,
- 38:50Speaker 2: not that much longer, comes home and the neighbor sees
- 38:52Speaker 2: him pull into the driveway, immediately flags him down. And,
- 38:55Speaker 2: you know, as gently as he can, he explains like, hey,
- 38:58Speaker 2: so your daughters are with me. They're fine. I don't
- 39:01Speaker 2: know what's going on in your house. They seem very
- 39:02Speaker 2: spooked about something to do with writing on the walls
- 39:05Speaker 2: in your basement. I don't really know, but they're very
- 39:08Speaker 2: shaken up. They're at my house right now. I just
- 39:10Speaker 2: want you to know. And Frank is like, okay, like
- 39:13Speaker 2: he knows what this is about. Like this has been
- 39:15Speaker 2: going on now for a week. And really all he's
- 39:17Speaker 2: thinking is, I guess I better plan for therapy or
- 39:20Speaker 2: something for my kids. And so he goes and he
- 39:22Speaker 2: tells his daughters like, okay, I'm here, I'm going to
- 39:25Speaker 2: go check the house. Okay. You stay here. I'll go
- 39:27Speaker 2: check it out. And I'll talk to you guys. And
- 39:30Speaker 2: so he goes to his house, he goes inside and
- 39:32Speaker 2: he searches his whole house and there's nobody there. He
- 39:35Speaker 2: goes into the basement and sure enough, written on the wall,
- 39:37Speaker 2: it does say I'm in your closet. Come find me.
- 39:39Speaker 2: But it's written in ketchup. Like it's someone put it there,
- 39:42Speaker 2: but you know, his first thought is my daughter's clearly
- 39:45Speaker 2: put it there. You know, they're the ones sort of
- 39:47Speaker 2: playing into this delusion here. This is like a really
- 39:50Speaker 2: unhealthy thing they've done. And now they're like, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 2: acting out this whole thing with the neighbor. And it's
- 39:56Speaker 2: becoming this big drama. Like this is clearly some huge,
- 40:00Speaker 2: you know, grief response. And so he leaves the house
- 40:04Speaker 2: not concerned in the least that this is like a
- 40:07Speaker 2: real problem. He's thinking, this is an issue of my daughters.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Like my daughters are struggling here and they need professional help.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And so he comes back over to the neighbor's house,
- 40:18Speaker 2: and he tells his girls, like, look, I know you're
- 40:21Speaker 2: dealing with some tough stuff here, but, you know, enough
- 40:23Speaker 2: is enough. We're gonna start grief therapy, like, literally tomorrow.
- 40:28Speaker 2: And the girls, you know, they did experience what they
- 40:30Speaker 2: just experienced, and they don't even know what to make
- 40:33Speaker 2: of it. I mean, now it's really gone from, you know,
- 40:35Speaker 2: this sort of tapping sound in the house to something
- 40:38Speaker 2: very concrete. Like, almost a threatening message left that clearly
- 40:42Speaker 2: was designed for them to find. but their dad doesn't
- 40:45Speaker 2: believe them. They're just, they feel trapped. Like, what do
- 40:46Speaker 2: you even do? And so, the girls are sort of resigned.
- 40:50Speaker 2: You know, they've been worn down by this and they're
- 40:51Speaker 2: just like, fine. Like, we'll, fine, dad. We'll do therapy.
- 40:56Speaker 2: And so, the girls literally, like, I think it was
- 40:57Speaker 2: the next day, started therapy. And wouldn't you know it,
- 41:01Speaker 2: over the coming several weeks, there was no more tapping
- 41:04Speaker 2: in the house. It was like everything went back to normal.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Peace returned to the house, if you will. The girls
- 41:10Speaker 2: were still terrified to be in the house, but even
- 41:11Speaker 2: when they were alone, you know, the tapping was gone. And,
- 41:15Speaker 2: you know, for Frank, he felt like, obviously, you know,
- 41:19Speaker 2: you're in therapy now. You know, that's, it's always been that.
- 41:22Speaker 2: It's nothing more. It's just, it's been in your head,
- 41:24Speaker 2: you know? But it wouldn't stay that way. So, one
- 41:29Speaker 2: week after the seance is when the writing on the
- 41:31Speaker 2: wall showed up. The, I'm in your closet, come find me.
- 41:33Speaker 2: And that's what starts the group therapy session. The following
- 41:36Speaker 2: three weeks, it's like peace in the house returns. So
- 41:39Speaker 2: at the end of those three weeks, so now effectively
- 41:41Speaker 2: one month after first contact, if you will, the seance
- 41:45Speaker 2: that the girls had at the very beginning, about one
- 41:47Speaker 2: month after, at this point, you know, they haven't forgotten. They,
- 41:51Speaker 2: as in Frank, Tina, and Karen, have not forgotten about
- 41:54Speaker 2: the tapping. They haven't forgotten about the weird stuff, but
- 41:56Speaker 2: it's sort of, it's no longer a thing, right? And
- 41:59Speaker 2: they've sort of returned to normal life. And on this day,
- 42:02Speaker 2: this is like in October, I think at this point
- 42:05Speaker 2: of 1986, Frank had taken Tina and Karen and one
- 42:09Speaker 2: of their friends, a girl named Kathleen, out to get
- 42:11Speaker 2: some ice cream. And so they went out, this is
- 42:13Speaker 2: in the evening time, they'd gone out, they got ice cream,
- 42:15Speaker 2: they're just livin' their lives, sort of like moving on
- 42:17Speaker 2: with life. And they come back to the Bowen household,
- 42:20Speaker 2: where they were gonna spend the next hour or so
- 42:22Speaker 2: before Kathleen had to go home. And when they got home,
- 42:26Speaker 2: Frank went up to the front step of his house,
- 42:28Speaker 2: and he's about to open his door, when he realizes
- 42:31Speaker 2: that there's something off about his house. He looked into
- 42:34Speaker 2: the window and he saw there was a couple lights
- 42:36Speaker 2: on inside the house that he just didn't remember leaving on.
- 42:39Speaker 2: But this is not like such a big red flag
- 42:41Speaker 2: that he's like, oh my God, don't go in the house.
- 42:43Speaker 2: It's more like, oh, that's weird. You know, I don't
- 42:46Speaker 2: remember leaving those on. He was pretty conscious, I suppose,
- 42:48Speaker 2: of leaving his lights off and on whenever he left
- 42:51Speaker 2: the house. And he sort of looked back at his
- 42:52Speaker 2: daughters to maybe see if maybe they were going to say, oh,
- 42:54Speaker 2: we left those on. But they don't even pick up
- 42:57Speaker 2: on him thinking about this stuff. He puts the lock
- 43:00Speaker 2: in and he puts the key in. He unlocks the door.
- 43:02Speaker 2: He opens it up. And it gets even weirder because
- 43:06Speaker 2: now he sees that there's a radio that's on that
- 43:08Speaker 2: was on really quietly that he can now hear, and
- 43:10Speaker 2: also a TV is on. TV's on in the back
- 43:12Speaker 2: of the house. So like some lights are on, TV, radio,
- 43:16Speaker 2: and he also couldn't help but feel like some of
- 43:18Speaker 2: the furniture in the first floor had been moved, but
- 43:21Speaker 2: like slightly. Only so much that, you know, if you
- 43:24Speaker 2: lived in a place, you would notice the difference, but
- 43:26Speaker 2: that's it. If you didn't live there, you wouldn't have
- 43:28Speaker 2: picked up on it, but things seemed a little bit
- 43:29Speaker 2: out of place. Frank, he sort of turns to Karen
- 43:34Speaker 2: and to Tina and Kathleen, their friend, and he's like, hey,
- 43:37Speaker 2: did you guys, did you leave this stuff on? And
- 43:39Speaker 2: the girls, by the way, at this point, they're seeing
- 43:42Speaker 2: these things, and Tina and Karen are immediately back in that,
- 43:46Speaker 2: oh my God, it's happening again. You know, it's this thing,
- 43:48Speaker 2: whatever it is. And they're like, we didn't do that.
- 43:50Speaker 2: And so, they're immediately terrified. Kathleen has been fully read
- 43:54Speaker 2: in by Tina and Karen. They've heard about all the
- 43:57Speaker 2: things they saw. She believes it fully. And so, the
- 43:59Speaker 2: three girls are like horrified. Frank doesn't really know what
- 44:02Speaker 2: to make of this. Because remember, he believed that his
- 44:05Speaker 2: girls were sort of behind this delusion. That's what he
- 44:08Speaker 2: would refer to it as. It's just a delusion. And
- 44:10Speaker 2: therapy was the way to get out of this thing.
- 44:12Speaker 2: So he's like, I think that's still true, but I
- 44:15Speaker 2: also have to deal with the fact that this is
- 44:17Speaker 2: hard to reconcile. They were with me. How could they
- 44:20Speaker 2: have done this? And they seem genuinely scared. And so
- 44:23Speaker 2: he hasn't really decided as he's walking into the house
- 44:25Speaker 2: how he's gonna react to this. He's like, looking at
- 44:27Speaker 2: his girls who are all scared, tucked up behind him.
- 44:30Speaker 2: and sort of looking at the scene like, what's going
- 44:32Speaker 2: on here? And so he does this like, half-invested search
- 44:35Speaker 2: of his house, where he's not really sure how he
- 44:37Speaker 2: feels about it. He sort of walks around the house,
- 44:39Speaker 2: he turns off the radio, turns off the TV, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 2: turns on the lights, because now they're home. But there's
- 44:44Speaker 2: nobody there. You know, he searches the first floor, goes
- 44:46Speaker 2: to the second floor, the girls are right behind him
- 44:48Speaker 2: the whole time, because they're so scared. They go down
- 44:50Speaker 2: in the basement, you know, and no one's down there.
- 44:53Speaker 2: The house is quiet, no one's there. But after he
- 44:57Speaker 2: finishes the whole search, he realizes there's actually one room
- 45:00Speaker 2: that he hadn't checked yet. Just when he had first
- 45:03Speaker 2: walked in, there's this room right off the front door.
- 45:05Speaker 2: It's like the front sitting room that overlooked the front
- 45:07Speaker 2: of the house. And just because he sort of half
- 45:10Speaker 2: began the search, wasn't really planning it, he just sort
- 45:11Speaker 2: of overlooked it. And so he has one more room
- 45:14Speaker 2: to search. It's this front room of the house. And
- 45:17Speaker 2: so he said, okay, I'm gonna go search that room.
- 45:18Speaker 2: And so again, he searched the whole house, nobody's there.
- 45:21Speaker 2: He walks into this front room and when he walks in,
- 45:24Speaker 2: he's basically looking at windows that overlook the front of
- 45:26Speaker 2: the house. And as soon as he walks in, he
- 45:29Speaker 2: sees written on the wall above those windows is the words,
- 45:33Speaker 2: marry me, written in shaving cream. And he walks in
- 45:37Speaker 2: and he's just looking at the words and he's thinking
- 45:40Speaker 2: to himself, my daughters, I just don't feel like this
- 45:43Speaker 2: was them. How could this be them? I would have
- 45:46Speaker 2: noticed something like this. It just feels like this can't
- 45:48Speaker 2: have been them, but he can't quite wrap his head
- 45:51Speaker 2: around what that actually means. If you accept this isn't
- 45:54Speaker 2: your daughter's, then everything your daughters have been saying before
- 45:56Speaker 2: might also be true. So he's like stuck with this
- 45:58Speaker 2: almost existential crisis of like, what do you do with this?
- 46:01Speaker 2: And he's just staring at the letters and his daughters are,
- 46:03Speaker 2: the daughter and friend are right, like literally up against
- 46:05Speaker 2: his backside. And then he hears something. Over to his left,
- 46:10Speaker 2: out of his eyesight, still in this front room, sort
- 46:12Speaker 2: of tucked up against the back wall relative to how
- 46:14Speaker 2: he's looking, was just a closet. And he hears the
- 46:18Speaker 2: sound of the closet opening. and he knows his girls
- 46:21Speaker 2: are right behind him. And so he turns and out
- 46:24Speaker 2: of the closet walks this figure that's wearing a dress.
- 46:27Speaker 2: They have clown makeup painted on their face. They have
- 46:30Speaker 2: a hatchet over their shoulder. It's this man who walks
- 46:34Speaker 2: out and he stares at Frank and the girls and
- 46:36Speaker 2: he just points and he goes upstairs. And he starts
- 46:40Speaker 2: walking towards them with this hatchet over his shoulder. And Frank, who,
- 46:44Speaker 2: I mean, he's in complete fight or flight response here.
- 46:46Speaker 2: He just like protects the girls and he's like, go,
- 46:48Speaker 2: just do what he says. and they start going out
- 46:50Speaker 2: of the front room towards the stairs that go to
- 46:52Speaker 2: the second floor. And this, you know, dress-wearing, hatchet-wielding, makeup-wearing
- 46:57Speaker 2: maniac also is the dress of his dead wife. You know,
- 46:59Speaker 2: he's staring at Frank intently, got this hatchet, and he
- 47:02Speaker 2: just keeps telling him, like, go, go up the stairs.
- 47:04Speaker 2: And so Frank keeps the girls between, you know, the guy,
- 47:07Speaker 2: he stays between the guy and the girls, and he
- 47:09Speaker 2: gets them to go up the stairs. And as soon
- 47:11Speaker 2: as they get to the top of the stairs, Frank
- 47:12Speaker 2: is still staring at this guy who's right in front
- 47:14Speaker 2: of him with the hatchet. He tells the girls, go
- 47:16Speaker 2: into the first bedroom. And so Kathleen goes in, Tina
- 47:19Speaker 2: goes in, Karen goes in, and then when Frank goes in,
- 47:22Speaker 2: this guy with the hatchet is just sort of methodically
- 47:25Speaker 2: slowly walking after him, like he's just taking his time.
- 47:28Speaker 2: As soon as Frank goes in and all the girls
- 47:30Speaker 2: are in with him, he slams the door shut and
- 47:33Speaker 2: he holds it shut. And suddenly there's this struggle between,
- 47:36Speaker 2: you know, the hatchet-wielding maniac and Frank to open this door.
- 47:40Speaker 2: And so they're battling at the door, and Tina, the 15-year-old,
- 47:43Speaker 2: immediately just turns, runs to the window, and jumps out
- 47:47Speaker 2: of the second floor window. Leaps out of the house.
- 47:51Speaker 2: She slams to the ground. There's screaming and all this
- 47:53Speaker 2: chaos happening up in the room right above her. She
- 47:56Speaker 2: just takes off to that same neighbor's house. And now
- 47:59Speaker 2: she's in full hysterics, screaming that somebody's in my house,
- 48:02Speaker 2: they're attacking my family. And the neighbor now consents. This
- 48:05Speaker 2: is not some, you know, delusion these girls are having.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Something horrible is happening next door. And so they call
- 48:10Speaker 2: the police. Police show up a couple minutes later, and
- 48:12Speaker 2: when they get there, they look up at that second
- 48:15Speaker 2: floor bedroom where Frank and the girls were, and Frank
- 48:17Speaker 2: is leaning out the window screaming that, you know, there's
- 48:20Speaker 2: somebody in my house. They were right at the door.
- 48:22Speaker 2: I don't know where they are. Like, they're gone. They're
- 48:24Speaker 2: in my house. And so the police immediately, they get
- 48:27Speaker 2: the ladder put up, and they get the girls and
- 48:29Speaker 2: Frank out of the house, and they usher them over
- 48:31Speaker 2: to the neighbor's house. And they're all safe. They're all fine. Traumatized,
- 48:34Speaker 2: no doubt. but the guy never got into the bedroom
- 48:37Speaker 2: and at some point took off. And so Frank and
- 48:39Speaker 2: the girls were okay. And so Frank, Kathleen, the friend,
- 48:43Speaker 2: Karen and Tina, they're all fine. They've been moved over
- 48:45Speaker 2: to the other house. But now the police, they go in,
- 48:48Speaker 2: you know, guns drawn to search the house for, you know,
- 48:52Speaker 2: whoever this person is who broke into their house. And
- 48:55Speaker 2: so in they go and they search the house and,
- 48:57Speaker 2: you know, there's no sign of any sort of disturbance
- 49:01Speaker 2: of any kind. I mean, there's nothing there. No one's
- 49:03Speaker 2: in the house. They searched everywhere. They did ultimately though
- 49:06Speaker 2: find a hatchet that was leaned up against the back
- 49:10Speaker 2: sliding glass door and that door was partially ajar. And
- 49:13Speaker 2: so it sort of gave the impression that, you know,
- 49:15Speaker 2: this person, whoever it was, is gone. And so after,
- 49:18Speaker 2: you know, the search of the house, the police are like, look,
- 49:22Speaker 2: you know, we, Frank to Frank, they're like, we don't
- 49:25Speaker 2: really know what to tell you here. You know, we
- 49:28Speaker 2: don't know where this person is. You know, your description
- 49:30Speaker 2: of them, unfortunately, It's sort of like you describe somebody
- 49:33Speaker 2: wearing a costume. You know, we don't even know what
- 49:35Speaker 2: they look like, realistically. They had clown makeup on, a dress.
- 49:38Speaker 2: You know, we think they're a man. They could be
- 49:40Speaker 2: a woman. We don't know how old they are. Like,
- 49:42Speaker 2: we don't know what to tell you other than it
- 49:44Speaker 2: seems risky to have you stay in your house. And so,
- 49:47Speaker 2: for right now, while we continue to investigate and try
- 49:51Speaker 2: to figure out who this is, we want you and
- 49:53Speaker 2: your family to just stay with a relative. Just don't
- 49:56Speaker 2: stay at your house. What we're gonna do is we're
- 49:58Speaker 2: gonna basically stake out your property and just assume that
- 50:01Speaker 2: maybe this guy might come back and maybe we'll catch
- 50:04Speaker 2: them then. And then in the interim, we're gonna be
- 50:06Speaker 2: canvassing the town and trying to figure out who did
- 50:08Speaker 2: this to you. And Frank's like, fine. And so really
- 50:10Speaker 2: without taking anything from his house, he and the girls just,
- 50:14Speaker 2: they leave. They go to a relative's house. And over
- 50:16Speaker 2: the next few days, the police do canvass or they
- 50:20Speaker 2: stake out Frank's property and nobody goes in or out.
- 50:24Speaker 2: It's just the vacant home that no one's going in
- 50:26Speaker 2: or out of. There's nothing, nothing's going on. And police
- 50:29Speaker 2: are communicating that to Frank the whole time. Like, hey,
- 50:31Speaker 2: you know, we've asked in town too, and no one
- 50:34Speaker 2: seems to know who this could be. Again, it's sort
- 50:36Speaker 2: of limiting with the description of this person. We don't
- 50:38Speaker 2: really know who we're even looking for. But no one's
- 50:41Speaker 2: gone into your house. And we think at this point,
- 50:42Speaker 2: you know, they're probably not going to come back. But
- 50:45Speaker 2: just for safety, you know, give it a couple more
- 50:46Speaker 2: days before we let you go back in. And so
- 50:49Speaker 2: this is, you know, a couple days into this. And Frank,
- 50:52Speaker 2: you know, he and his girls, they had to leave
- 50:54Speaker 2: pretty abruptly. And so they were not able to take
- 50:57Speaker 2: any supplies with them. They have their toiletries and their
- 51:00Speaker 2: pillows and all those, all their nice things. They're in
- 51:02Speaker 2: the house still. And so it's broad daylight on the
- 51:05Speaker 2: third day of this. And Frank's like, you know what?
- 51:08Speaker 2: I think I can pretty much just go over there,
- 51:09Speaker 2: run in the house real quick and just get my stuff,
- 51:12Speaker 2: bring it back. And then we'll have a couple more
- 51:14Speaker 2: days and we'll move back in. And so he drives,
- 51:17Speaker 2: Frank does, broad daylight on this like third day of
- 51:18Speaker 2: the stakeout. He gets to his property and he doesn't
- 51:22Speaker 2: see any police anywhere. Doesn't see any cop cars anywhere.
- 51:25Speaker 2: He's thinking, oh, maybe they're, unmarked or something. I don't know,
- 51:27Speaker 2: but there's like nobody parked anywhere. It just looks like
- 51:29Speaker 2: his house is here and no one's watching it. And
- 51:33Speaker 2: he's like, okay, well, they're probably here somewhere. I'm just
- 51:35Speaker 2: going to run in real quick, get my stuff and leave.
- 51:38Speaker 2: And so he parks in his driveway, he gets out
- 51:39Speaker 2: of his car and he starts walking towards the front door.
- 51:42Speaker 2: But before he even gets to the porch, he thinks
- 51:45Speaker 2: he sees something moving in his house up on the
- 51:47Speaker 2: second floor, that same bedroom where they had been. And,
- 51:50Speaker 2: you know, he stops immediately because he's thinking, oh, wait
- 51:53Speaker 2: a minute, what if they're watching my property from in
- 51:55Speaker 2: the house? Like they didn't specify how they were gonna
- 51:58Speaker 2: watch the house. And I don't wanna just walk in there,
- 52:01Speaker 2: you know, to potentially an armed police officer who's waiting
- 52:04Speaker 2: for an intruder. I don't wanna just barge in. And
- 52:06Speaker 2: so I better like take a second and call them
- 52:09Speaker 2: and really let them know that, hey, I'm here before
- 52:11Speaker 2: I go in. And so he goes to the neighbor
- 52:13Speaker 2: and he says, hey, let me use your phone. He
- 52:15Speaker 2: calls the police and he's like, hey, you know, I
- 52:17Speaker 2: know you're staking out my house, but can you just
- 52:19Speaker 2: confirm that you have officers in my house? then that's
- 52:22Speaker 2: how you're watching it. Because that's who I think I
- 52:24Speaker 2: just saw in the house. And they're like, no one's
- 52:27Speaker 2: watching your house from in the house. They're outside the house.
- 52:30Speaker 2: And Frank's like, well, I didn't see anybody outside the house.
- 52:32Speaker 2: And the guy he's talking to was like, well, then
- 52:34Speaker 2: you must have caught them at turnover. I bet right
- 52:36Speaker 2: now the police officer who's supposed to be on duty
- 52:39Speaker 2: probably just arrived. And you must have got there right
- 52:41Speaker 2: in that couple of minute transition time, which unfortunately does
- 52:44Speaker 2: happen sometimes. But we promise somebody's there. And what you
- 52:47Speaker 2: ought to do is just go over there and I
- 52:50Speaker 2: bet right now there's an officer watching your property. Why
- 52:52Speaker 2: don't you talk to them? And I'm sure they can
- 52:54Speaker 2: go in and check the house for you if you want.
- 52:56Speaker 2: And Frank's like, okay, that's weird because I definitely saw
- 52:59Speaker 2: someone in the house, but I'll go check. And so
- 53:01Speaker 2: he hangs up, he goes outside and sure enough, there's
- 53:03Speaker 2: a cop that's parked right outside the house. He goes
- 53:07Speaker 2: over to the cop and he sort of explains the situation.
- 53:09Speaker 2: And the guy's like, okay, you know, no one's in
- 53:12Speaker 2: your house, but I will go in and look around
- 53:14Speaker 2: before you go in and get your stuff. And so
- 53:16Speaker 2: Frank stays out on the curb, and the officer goes
- 53:19Speaker 2: up to the house. Now remember, this house, no one's
- 53:22Speaker 2: going in or out. And with the exception of a
- 53:24Speaker 2: couple of minutes of turnover, when there's a little bit
- 53:26Speaker 2: of a gap sometimes, this house is just vacant. Nothing's
- 53:30Speaker 2: happening in this house. The cop walks up and he
- 53:33Speaker 2: gets to the door and he unlocks it and he
- 53:36Speaker 2: opens it up and he just cannot believe what he
- 53:38Speaker 2: sees inside the house. There were pennies glued to the
- 53:42Speaker 2: ceiling all across the first floor, just like pennies, like
- 53:45Speaker 2: the coin, pennies. glued to the ceiling all across the
- 53:48Speaker 2: first floor. And there are all these, like, half-full champagne glasses,
- 53:52Speaker 2: sort of, positioned all over the first floor. And the
- 53:54Speaker 2: furniture's clearly been maneuvered and arranged in sort of bizarre ways.
- 53:59Speaker 2: You know, it's just totally inexplicable. And all the guy's
- 54:02Speaker 2: thinking is, we've been watching this house. Clearly, somehow, someone's
- 54:07Speaker 2: getting in and out of this house, or they're still here.
- 54:09Speaker 2: And I don't know how that's possible, but we don't...
- 54:12Speaker 2: Something's off here, obviously. And so instead of searching the house,
- 54:16Speaker 2: he pulls out, calls in backup, and they do yet
- 54:19Speaker 2: another complete search of this house. Like, they're gonna tear
- 54:22Speaker 2: this place apart and figure out how the heck someone's
- 54:24Speaker 2: getting in and out and doing things inside the house
- 54:26Speaker 2: with nobody noticing. Like, what's going on here? And they
- 54:30Speaker 2: search the whole house, top to bottom, and it's a
- 54:32Speaker 2: much more thorough search this time. And they cannot find anyone.
- 54:35Speaker 2: There's no sign of anybody in the house, how they
- 54:38Speaker 2: got in, how they got out. It's just this total
- 54:40Speaker 2: weird mystery. And at the end of it, there were
- 54:44Speaker 2: a couple of officers that were down in the basement,
- 54:47Speaker 2: you know, that like blank basement. And they're just, they're
- 54:50Speaker 2: standing there like frustrated, like, how could this be happening?
- 54:53Speaker 2: What's going on here? And one of them was leaning
- 54:56Speaker 2: on the washing machine. And he's like, I just don't
- 54:59Speaker 2: understand how we could have missed this. And as he's talking,
- 55:02Speaker 2: the washing machine suddenly moves from his weight being on it.
- 55:06Speaker 2: And he looks down and behind where the washing machine
- 55:08Speaker 2: had been, now that it's been moved, is a little
- 55:11Speaker 2: cutout on the wall. And it sort of looked like
- 55:13Speaker 2: it was where the vents of the washing machine and
- 55:16Speaker 2: the dryer would go to, but he sort of moved
- 55:18Speaker 2: it a little bit more and he realized that there
- 55:19Speaker 2: was a big enough cutout behind these two, the washer
- 55:22Speaker 2: and dryer, that a person could realistically fit through the
- 55:27Speaker 2: hole in the wall. And so they pulled the washer
- 55:29Speaker 2: dryer away and they poked their head in and they
- 55:32Speaker 2: see with their flashlight, there's like a tunnel that's been
- 55:35Speaker 2: burrowed into the wall in the basement and crouched down
- 55:39Speaker 2: in the corner, looking back at them, is this dude
- 55:42Speaker 2: wearing a dress.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Holy shit.
- 55:45Speaker 2: And the dude in the corner, his name was Danny LaPlante.
- 55:48Speaker 2: And I'm gonna tell you about Danny LaPlante, because this story,
- 55:52Speaker 2: it takes a horrible turn. This is already bad, but
- 55:55Speaker 2: it gets exponentially worse. So, Danny LaPlante was this 16-year-old kid,
- 56:00Speaker 2: and he clearly had humongous issues, huge issues. Six months
- 56:04Speaker 2: earlier from when he's discovered in the wall, he had
- 56:07Speaker 2: had some sort of fleeting interaction with Tina Bowen, the 15-year-old. Apparently,
- 56:13Speaker 2: he made some sort of move on her and he
- 56:15Speaker 2: felt rejected. Tina didn't recall it at all. They apparently
- 56:18Speaker 2: went to school together, but she does not have a
- 56:21Speaker 2: memory of interacting with this guy ever. You know, it's like,
- 56:24Speaker 2: I didn't even know that he felt that way about me,
- 56:26Speaker 2: but he felt spurned by her. He felt rejected. And
- 56:29Speaker 2: the way he handled his rejection is he snuck into
- 56:32Speaker 2: their house right after that, so six months earlier, burrowed
- 56:36Speaker 2: a hole in their wall in the basement and was
- 56:38Speaker 2: living in their walls. And what he was doing is,
- 56:41Speaker 2: by the way, he did not have access to their
- 56:43Speaker 2: whole house from that hole in the basement. He only
- 56:46Speaker 2: had a little crawl space in the walls in the basement.
- 56:49Speaker 2: He was leaving the crawl space all the time and
- 56:52Speaker 2: just wandering their house with the family there. He was
- 56:55Speaker 2: spying on the family 24-7. And then at a certain
- 56:59Speaker 2: point when the girls went downstairs and they had that seance, Danny,
- 57:03Speaker 2: could tell they were having a seance to try to
- 57:05Speaker 2: contact their mother. And all those tapping sounds he made
- 57:09Speaker 2: were intentional. He was trying to pretend to be their
- 57:11Speaker 2: mother to make them feel like it's mom. He was
- 57:14Speaker 2: the one, he snuck into their bedrooms and was flicking
- 57:17Speaker 2: the underside of their bed. Like, this guy was asking
- 57:20Speaker 2: to get caught, he never did. But it was him
- 57:23Speaker 2: pretending to be their mom, and then eventually he mixed
- 57:24Speaker 2: it up and decided to be evil and pretended to
- 57:27Speaker 2: be a malevolent spirit. So this guy's completely psychopathic, right?
- 57:31Speaker 2: So he gets arrested. and he's put in jail. And
- 57:34Speaker 2: 10 months later, as he's awaiting trial, he is given bond.
- 57:39Speaker 2: He's given, he's allowed to leave jail. He's given bond.
- 57:42Speaker 2: That's the framing, right?
- 57:43Speaker 1: Yeah, bond.
- 57:46Speaker 2: And while he's out on bond, he sneaks into another
- 57:48Speaker 2: family's house. And for reasons that we still don't even
- 57:52Speaker 2: understand now, he murdered three of the four people in
- 57:55Speaker 2: that family after living in their walls. And now, he's
- 57:59Speaker 2: currently in jail, and he recently was put up for, uh,
- 58:03Speaker 2: a parole hearing, and he was rejected. And during the
- 58:06Speaker 2: parole hearing, they determined that he's arguably one of, if
- 58:10Speaker 2: not the single most sociopathic member in the entire prison system. So,
- 58:16Speaker 2: that's the story of Danny LaPlante.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Damn.
- 58:18Speaker 2: How did he kill the, uh, the other family? He
- 58:21Speaker 2: drowned them.
- 58:22Speaker 1: He drowned them?
- 58:23Speaker 2: I believe the mom was strangled and the two children
- 58:25Speaker 2: he drowned.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Jeez.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Yeah. And so, if you look at this guy now,
- 58:30Speaker 2: if you look at videos of Daniel LaPlante now, I mean,
- 58:33Speaker 2: if you were to imagine somebody capable of doing that,
- 58:37Speaker 2: that's what he looks like. So, not good, dude.
- 58:43Speaker 1: How do you find this stuff?
- 58:45Speaker 2: Well, that one's pretty well publicized, I suppose.
- 58:49Speaker 1: People know about that.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Yeah, but the thing that, and this is not to
- 58:53Speaker 2: toot my own horn, but I think that the thing
- 58:54Speaker 2: that I will do to stories that I think brings
- 58:56Speaker 2: them to life a little bit is there are stories
- 58:59Speaker 2: that are told by loads of people on loads of
- 59:02Speaker 2: accounts and channels and movies and TV shows. But a
- 59:04Speaker 2: lot of time, there's sort of like a formula for
- 59:06Speaker 2: how each one gets told. For example, this is completely true, random,
- 59:10Speaker 2: but like, Roswell, New Mexico, I don't even have the
- 59:13Speaker 2: story in mind, but the way that story is often
- 59:15Speaker 2: told is, Roswell, New Mexico is like where aliens by
- 59:18Speaker 2: the government are like kept, you know? And like, that's
- 59:21Speaker 2: how you start the story, and then you sort of
- 59:23Speaker 2: back into it. And that's how everybody tells that story.
- 59:26Speaker 2: If I was gonna tell, and I've never done this,
- 59:29Speaker 2: a story about Roswell, I would start with some anecdote
- 59:34Speaker 2: that led to this theory even existing. I would start
- 59:37Speaker 2: with somebody's experience in real time that was potentially paranormal,
- 59:41Speaker 2: and then I would begin to connect it to Roswell
- 59:43Speaker 2: in some way. Maybe the government comes in after the fact, and,
- 59:46Speaker 2: you know, suddenly the sighting this person saw, the government's
- 59:49Speaker 2: asking questions, and it turns out it's the agents from Roswell,
- 59:52Speaker 2: New Mexico. And so, I like to find a way
- 59:55Speaker 2: to tell a story where the payoff is only at
- 59:57Speaker 2: the end. You know, it's like, especially in true crime stories,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: which we do a lot of, so many times when
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: you tell a story like that, it becomes, one, fixated
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: on the antagonist, the killer, because they're the most obscene,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: they're the most memorable in the worst ways, and you
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: lead with, like, today, I'm gonna tell you the story
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: of the murder of so-and-so. And so, going into it,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: you sort of already know what the story is, and
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: you're fixated on the killer. And so the way I
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: tell these stories, it's designed to be like you're in
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: the POV of the normal people that are meant to
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: feel relatable to you. The people who, like the Bowen family,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: That's it.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: And the other family that were killed, the Gustafsons, wrong place,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: wrong time. I want you to inhabit their point of
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: view and have the killer be almost anonymous. This is
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: a story where Danny LaPlante gets really named, but the
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: killer or like the bad thing that happens always needs
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: to feel like sort of this thing that always happens
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: in a Mr. Ballin story. It's this ambiguous, bad thing.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: It's the character in the story that I can relate to.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: I can, like, feel their emotions. That way, by the
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: time the bad thing happens, it's, like, heart-wrenching. You're like, oh,
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: my God, like, I feel for those people, you know? So,
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: that story gets told a ton, but it's often told with,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you the story of the guy in
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: the wall.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Man, we do a phenomenal job.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: That was a long one. Holy shit. Living in the wall? Yeah.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: And you know, what's crazy is like, this guy had parents.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: I think he did. He was a very, I don't quote,
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: I want to say a very dysfunctional family, if you
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: can imagine. So, but there's, there's actually, these are far
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: less good stories, but there's a shocking number of, because
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: we researched this stuff, shocking number of people that have
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: found living in their walls. And honestly, it's usually, it's
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: not like you can live in someone's wall. It isn't
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: like your walls magically connect all over your house. That's
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: not really how it works. But there are definitely instances,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: especially in like major cities, of like squatters finding their
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: way into these apartment complexes and different people's homes. Like, actually,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: this is not even a full story, but there was this,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: there was a movie based on this, and I'm not
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: prepared to tell this whole story, but there was this
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: apartment complex, I want to say it was in New York,
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: where there were all these people getting killed. Like, just
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: in this massive, like, Section 8-style housing. Like, people packed
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: on top of each other. Super big high-rise. All these
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: people were getting killed. They were just turning up dead
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: in their apartments. And, you know, nobody knew why. They
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: just would be found dead in their apartment, sort of inexplicably.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: And it would turn out that the way this apartment
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: was built was really, really cheaply. In particular, the way
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: they insulated the walls between each of the different units.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: So in essence, if you wanted to, there was a
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: way from I think the basement where you could get
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: into the inner workings of every single, you could get
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: into the space between every single apartment. There was effectively
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: like scaffolding very near.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: And even worse than that, every single apartment, their mirror
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: was just placed into the drywall. It wasn't anchored at all.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: these dudes began sneaking into people's apartments by just climbing
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: inside of the wall, like this high-rise building, and punching
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: open the mirror. Now they're in your apartment and killing
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: the people in the apartment and then going back in
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: through the mirror.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Jeez. My days don't slow down. Between work, the gym,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: and time with the kids, I need eyewear that can

- 1:06:06Speaker 2: I don't know if this one was true or not,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: but there was one about, in a way, it's sort
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: of Not heartwarming at all. It's bad. But it's the
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: closest thing to heartwarming.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: I don't know if you have any heartwarming stories, John.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: This one is like, there was this guy who I
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: want to say, this might be, I don't know if
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: this is a true story or not, but it's a great,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: you can probably look it up. It's one of the
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: more viral clips that's out there. And I think it's true.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: There was this guy who, he lived in the city,
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: it was in New York. And I think he shot
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: content for like a vlog or something. I don't think
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: he was a big influencer or anything, but he was
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: a type of guy who like filmed himself a lot.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: And there was this, someone put together a compilation of
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: all these videos of him. Over the course of these
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: vlogs he was doing, he was mentioning that he's like, man,
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: it's the weirdest thing happened to me last night. Like
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: my toothbrush was like on the other side of the counter,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: you know, little things that in the vlog, he's clearly
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: not making a big deal out of it, but he's saying,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I mean, he's like, that's so weird. I feel like
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: I'm losing my mind. Like it just, He just mentioned
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: that there were all these weird things happening. He lives alone.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: He lives in a big apartment building in New York.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: And he eventually starts to, like, question his own sanity.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: He begins to say to his followers, or whatever you
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: want to call it, he's like, I just... Something weird
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: is happening to me. Like, I keep forgetting where I'm
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: putting things. You know, I keep buying things, and they're, like, disappearing,
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: in particular food, and, like, weird stuff is happening in
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: the kitchen. And so, he eventually sets up a camera,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: It's a very small, like, New York City apartment kitchen.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: New York City apartment kitchen. He sets up a camera. And,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: you know, over the first couple of nights he's filming,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: nothing happens. He doesn't even know what he's looking for. Like,
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: he's not going to, oh, someone's living in my apartment
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: with me. He's just like, what? Am I sleepwalking? Like,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: what am I doing? And then there's this one clip
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: that's gone crazy viral, be easy to find. It's the
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: middle of the night, and this cupboard opens, and this
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: little woman, this little woman She climbs out of the
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: cupboard and she's like looking around and she goes over
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: to a sink. She hasn't even got off the counter yet.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: And she squats down and pees in a sink. She
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: jumps down and she goes to his fridge and she
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: starts eating all this food in his fridge. And then
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: she like goes around the house. She comes back with
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: like a toothbrush, sure enough. She like cleans her teeth,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: puts everything back. And then she goes back into the
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: cupboard and puts everything back. And the guy discovered it
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: and he was horrified.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: This is real too?
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Well, I don't know that this, I've seen this video
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: and I believe it's true. And this guy did an
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: interview for it. He was like, yeah, it turns out
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: in that cupboard, you could basically climb up like into
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: the ceiling of the apartment and hide. But it was
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: this woman who, and this is the heartwarming part, if
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: you will, I think that she had no money, you know,
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: she was down on her luck. She was this elderly
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: woman who had literally walked into his apartment when he
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: left the door open one day and just like magically
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: found this hiding spot and had been there.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: For a year.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: So he was living in this room for a year.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: It's like crazy.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: Holy shit, dude. You uncover some wild shit. Yeah, man.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Do you believe in paranormal stuff?
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Uh, I don't know. I sort of do. I think
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: that the... what's happened is, in virtue of constantly searching
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: for stories that, you know, are credible enough that we
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: would share them on our shows, you sort of are
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: exposed to a lot of stuff that's clearly not true.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: Especially when it comes to, like, user submissions, a lot
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: of that stuff, it could be true, but there's just
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: no way I can prove any level of credibility. It's
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: one person's perspective type of thing. But there are definitely
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: some things that are tough to explain. And I think
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: that where I go to is it's sort of a,
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: it's almost a cop-out to say, you know, paranormal doesn't exist.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: Only because all you have to do is just zoom out.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Zoom out a little bit on our species. Zoom out
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: a little bit on Earth. It doesn't matter what you
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: think of how we got here, or whether there's God,
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: whether there isn't, or whatever your interpretation of existence and
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: our place in it, it doesn't matter. It is undeniably
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: the case that we are this little tiny thing in
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: this vast space that we don't really understand. Even through
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: every religion, we still don't really understand. We don't really
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: know with absolute clarity who we are and what we're
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: doing here. We have good ideas, we have great theories,
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: but it's undeniably part of the human experience that we
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: were like, yeah, we don't really know. We think so,
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: I believe this, but I don't really know. And so,
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: because of that, why is it so outlandish to think
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: that there could be, for example, like supernatural activity? I mean, there's...
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: I told this story actually on the story time with Mr. Ballin,
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: the new show we've been doing. I told it to
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: Tom Segura on our first episode. The shortened version of
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: it is there's a story of this Mexican pilot who's
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: this young civilian pilot who was learning how to fly,
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: just as a civilian. He's a 21-year-old kid, forget his name.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: And there was the day where he was gonna fly
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: solo for the first time. So he shows up to
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: the airfield. I think it's called Chimalakan, Mexico. I'm butchering
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: the name. He shows up, you know, he's done all
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: his tandem or whatever you call it, flights with an instructor. Today,
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: he's going to fly on his own. And the flight
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: path that he was going to be on was very simple.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Take off, you know, do a couple of turns, come
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: back and land, just show us you can do it.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: And then, you know, you're certified. So he's not nervous.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: He gets in the plane. He takes off. He takes off.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: I think it was like 9.15 in the morning. I
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: want to say this is in the 80s or 90s.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: I forget, but it wasn't super recent. He takes off
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: and everything's going fine. and he begins making his turn.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: And then, at a certain point, there's like this fog
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: that rolls in. And they were sort of aware of
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: the fog, but the fog, like, it really came in fast.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: And as he's entering this fog, he loses his visibility.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: And this is also at a time where the instruments
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: in the aircraft were pretty rudimentary. Like, it was basically
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: dead reckoning. You're sort of looking out the window to
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: see where you're going. This might even have been in
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: the 60s or 70s, now that I think about it.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: It was not recent. And all he's got is like
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: his compass and like his altimeter, like he doesn't have
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: much going on. And he's just sort of looking out
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: the window and he's seeing where he's at. And he's like, okay,
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: I'm good. He's like making his turn. But at a
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: certain point, he knows he needs to begin to descend
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: to land. And he basically knows where he is. He
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: figures once I go below the fog, I'm gonna see
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: the runway and I'll land. But as he tries to descend,
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: he realizes his craft, his airplane's not responding. You know,
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: it's flying, it's steady. You know, it's not faltering, but
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: it's not descending. And he tries to like pull the
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: yoke to one side. It's not turning right. It's not
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: turning left. He can't do anything. He's not panicking. But
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: as this is happening, he realizes that, you know, the
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: plane is not just leveled off. It actually is beginning
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: to climb and he has no control over it. He's
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: just going up. And so he goes over the radio.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: He's trying to tell, you know, I guess the air
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: traffic control what's going on, but he doesn't really even
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: know what's going on other than he's lost control of
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: his aircraft. He's in this big, you know, cloud of fog.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: He sort of losing sight of anything. And as he's rising,
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: he begins to lose consciousness and finally just passes out. So,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: he's riding up into the clouds with no control and
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: he passes out. And so, Raphael, pretty sure his name's Raphael.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: For the sake of this story, I'm gonna call him
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: Raphael from here on out. So, Raphael, he wakes up
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: sort of abruptly and he's like, like looking around and
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: immediately he takes stock of, you know, what's going on
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: because he just passed out in the cockpit a minute
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: ago and he's flying solo, pretty dangerous. And he sees
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: that his plane's still flying. He's flying level, his plane's fine,
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: and the mist is all gone, the fog is all gone.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: And he looks out his window and he sees that,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: you know, not only is the fog all gone, but
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: he's actually over a very, you know, new-looking environment. He's
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: flying over water. Now, in every direction, it's water. And,
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: you know, he's really just happy that he hasn't crashed,
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: you know, and he can't really picture how he got here.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: But as he's sort of taking stock and, you know,
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: taking back control of the plane, and now he does
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: have control of the plane again, he realizes there's somebody
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: trying to talk to him on the radio. And they're like, hey, hey, Rafael, Rafael. Like, hey,
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: what's going on, Rafael? And he's like, oh my God, like,
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: I don't even know what to say to you. Like,
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: I don't even know where I am. And the guy
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: over the radio, it was air traffic control off the
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: coast of, I forget where it is, some coastal city
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: in Mexico. They're like, hey, I've been talking to you.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: for the last hour or so. Are you okay? And
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: is somebody with you right now? And Rafael's like, what? Like, no, like,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: it's just me. I fell asleep. I don't know how
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: I got here. And so, the air traffic control guy
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: is very, like, suspect of what's going on. And he's like, hey,
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: do me a favor, like, turn around, like, come over here.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: You're gonna land right here at, you know, wherever, whatever
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: city this is. You're gonna come land right here and
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: we're gonna talk to you, okay? And so, he's like,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: thank you, you know, okay. So, he turns around and
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: he lands. And where he is, I'm now forgetting, I
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: think it's three hours away. From where he took off,
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: where he lands is a three-hour flight away. Let's put
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: it that way. I forget the name of where he lands.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: So he lands. And as soon as he lands, he's
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: thinking like, oh my God, I'm getting so much trouble.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: I definitely didn't pass my test. Like this did not
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: go well. He gets out of his aircraft and there's
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: all these people waiting for him. Like these like stereotypical,
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: like in suits, like government officials. They show, that's what
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: it looks like. That's the way he reports it. And
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: they take him, and before he can even ask questions
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: about what the heck just happened, they're like, hey, you're
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: gonna come with us. We're gonna screen you and see
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: if you're on drugs. And also, we want to give
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: you a psychological test to make sure you're sane. And,
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: you know, the whole time, he's like, what is going on?
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: He's trying to ask questions, nobody's giving him an answer. Like,
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: it's these, you know, people in suits that have just
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: kind of whisked him away to this hospital. And he
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: gets to the hospital, and they give him a drug screening,
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: and he's totally sober. And they have a psychologist talk
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: to him who determines that he's shaken, but he's sane.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: And it's only at that point that they're like, all right, Raphael,
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: we're going to tell you what the heck's going on here.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: And he has no idea. He's like totally clueless what's
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: happened here. So he took off at like 9.15 a.m.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: This is what they told him. They're like, you took
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: off at 9.15 a.m. You flew up into the cloud
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: and then no one could find you again. And then
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: at about, I want to say it was like, I
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: forget the time exactly, but it was like an hour
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: later or an hour and a half later, call like 1030, 1045,
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: air traffic control off the coast of Mexico, they picked
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: up this blip on their radar flying in circles out
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: over the water. And it was Rafael. And they're like,
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: what are you doing here? The guy who was like, hey,
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: are you alone in the cockpit right now? That guy,
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: that same air traffic control, he got on the radio
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: with Rafael and he spoke to him for an hour.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: and they recorded his conversation. And at some point in
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: this conversation with Raphael that Raphael doesn't remember, there's a
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: recording of this, I wish I could play for you
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: right now, where Raphael, it doesn't sound like him, but
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: he's the only one in the cockpit, and it's recorded
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: on air traffic control. He says something to the effect of,
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: this is not Raphael. We come to you from another planet.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: We're using his body as a microphone. You need to
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: understand that your species is on the brink of destruction.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: that you're using nuclear weapons, you're about to turn on yourselves,
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: and you're gonna annihilate yourselves if you don't stop. And
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: if you don't stop, like, there are... The insinuation was,
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: entities other than, you know, people on Earth are gonna
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: intervene and stop you. It was basically like, stop fucking
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: around on Earth and blowing shit up and killing each other,
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: or else someone's gonna have to intervene. It's sort of
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: like the message, but it's said through Rafael. And if
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: you listen to it, even though it's in Spanish, it
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: sounds horrifying. His voice sounds deep, and it's like garbly,
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: and it's... You can tell the air traffic control guy,
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: as he's talking back and forth to him, he's unnerved
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: by it. And then magically, at like 10.30 or 10.45,
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: when Raphael comes to in the cockpit, his voice totally
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: changes on the recording. He's like, hey, what's going on?
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: I just woke up. I just woke up. So, Raphael
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: has no memory of it, but there's a couple other
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: anomalies that don't really add up. One, you have just
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: the fact that there's a recording of the conversation where
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: for an hour, this guy is getting this weird feedback
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: from Raphael that sounds like another alien species talking to him.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: But also, the plane itself, it's a three-hour flight to
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: get to that body of water. And he had enough
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: fuel in his plane, I want to say for like
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: an hour's flight or two hours flight, it was less.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: When they recovered his plane, he had like three quarters
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: full tank of gas. So just to get to where
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: he was, even if he had flown straight, one, he
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: didn't have enough time because it was 9.15-ish takeoff, 10.45 a.m.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: or whatever it was, he's found over the body of water.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: That's not three hours, that's an hour and a half.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: So it's less than three hours. So even a fast
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: plane couldn't have got there in three hours. And the
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: fuel was literally like too full to be there. And so,
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: the only way you can get this story... This is
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: sort of dramatic, but it's good for the story. The
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: story's not really widely talked about, because it's a very
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: scrutinized story in Mexico. Because people are like, this is
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: the best piece of evidence that something weird is going on.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: There could be aliens out there. This feels like proof.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: The story has been buried in an archive in this
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: library in Mexico. And the way we got access to it,
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: I kid you not, is we had to write a
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: handwritten letter to this Mexican library. to request to use
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: the story in the recording. Because it's the recording. That's
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: the transcript in the recording. And then when we asked,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: they had to interview us to figure out what we
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: were using it for.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I swear to God. Are you serious? Yeah.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: And they were like, whatever you do, don't make a
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: video about it on the internet.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: And here we are.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: And here we are.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: Yeah. No shit. Right? How'd you find that one?
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: So we have a pretty amazing team of researchers, and
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: we have one, Sam, who's our Spanish language researcher. And
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: so she will specifically read news sources that are Spanish
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: language that we don't necessarily have access to. And she
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: just found it. Yeah, I guess people were talking about
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: it on the interwebs, if you will.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Man, that is wild.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you know?
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Have you had any paranormal stuff happen to you?
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I had the, I had, it's.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: A long one.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: I don't know if you want to hear a long one.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: I have a long story. How much time do we got?
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: We got, we got, we got all the time in
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: the world.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: Yeah. So we, I do, I have like, I have
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: one thing that happened to me that I, I don't
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: even know if it's paranormal or not. I would say
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: that it likely feels close. And in a way it's,
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: people think it's like the reason I started doing Mr. Ballin,
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: but it's totally coincidental. I have I have exactly one
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: time that I had something strange happen to me. And
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: it also happens to be one of the first stories
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: I told on the internet that went pretty viral. But
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: it's not why I do this. It's just happenstance. So
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: when I was 16 years old, I was big into snowboarding.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: And I had these two buddies of mine who both
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: were named Nick. And one of them, his nickname was Wolf,
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: like the animal wolf. And so for the sake of
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: the story, there's Nick and there's Wolf. And the three
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: of us, we snowboarded together all the time. So I
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: grew up just south of Boston, Massachusetts. And I lived
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: in a town called Quincy. And Massachusetts is not known
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: for its rugged mountain peaks. And so there's really nowhere
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: to go snowboarding. But there was this place called Blue Hills.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: It's this little ski resort. It's literally a hill, hence
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: the name Blue Hills, in Milton, Massachusetts. And, you know,
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: they pumped snow onto it. And it's, no kidding, just
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: a little tiny hill. And we loved it. We were
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: there all the time. Taught snowboarding there, you know. It
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: was like, that was our place. In the winter, me, Nick,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: and Wolf were there all the time. And, but every
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: winter from the time I was like maybe 12, so 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: the one big trip we would take is Nick, Nick's
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: family had a cabin in New Hampshire, up in the
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: White Mountains. And for us, that was like the one
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: time where we'd go stay at the cabin and for
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: like a weekend or a few days, we would go
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: snowboarding at like real mountains in New Hampshire, which compared
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: to Blue Hills in Massachusetts, these were like, you know,
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: Mount Everest. It was amazing. And so we really looked
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: forward to that trip every single year. But when I
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: was 16, we had a trip planned to go up
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: to this cabin and their cabin itself, it's located up
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: on this old abandoned ski resort, which, matters to the story. Basically,
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: they built all these little cabins. I think it's called
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: King Pine was the name of the resort before it
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: shut down. But there's all these cabins that were built,
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: you know, for the ski resort, but then the ski
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: resort shut down and a lot of the cabins got demolished.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: Nobody really kept them or they were sold off or whatever,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: but there was a few that kept their cabin on
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: these old abandoned mountains. And there's really like very little
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: in the way of public service that goes up there
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: so the roads get all nasty and stuff. But it
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: was cool to be living on the side of the
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: mountain But anyhow, we had a trip to go up
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: there planned. And... sort of out of left field, Nick's
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: father passed away. It was, honestly, I think it was
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: a heart attack, but it was very abrupt. And when
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: we would go to this trip, this annual trip up
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: to this cabin, it was always me, Wolf, Nick, and
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: then Nick's mom and dad. And they were like this...
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: Perfect couple. You know, they loved each other so much.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: They were so much fun to be around. Just like
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: the most motherly, fatherly group. And they loved that cabin,
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: especially the dad. The dad, I don't think he built it,
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: but he was like always, you know, he was very
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: handy fixing it up. You know, he's a man's man,
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: rugged guy. And so when I found out that Nick's
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: dad had died, you know, I really didn't care about
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: the ski trip, snowboard trip. I'm like, of course we're
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: not doing that. You know, how could we? It was
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: like literally a couple of days away. You know, there's
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: not a chance we're gonna do that. And I remember
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: I talked to Wolf separately, so not the guy whose
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: dad died. And I said, hey, you know, just between
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: you and I, obviously we're not gonna go.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: You know, right?
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, no way. But I ended up
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: getting a call from Nick. And Nick is, he was
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: always like a very stoic guy, sort of like a tough, quiet,
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: reserved kind of guy. And he's like, hey, like showing
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: almost no emotion or anything. He's like, hey, you know,
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: we're just gonna go. We're gonna go on the trip anyways.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: And I remember thinking that I actually really didn't want
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: to because like I'm thinking about how uncomfortable that's gonna be.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: The absence of his father is gonna.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Be so obvious.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: But I also was thinking that, you know, for all
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: I know, this is their way of like, you know,
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: sort of honoring his late father. He loved the cabin.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: And maybe it's one of those things where it's like,
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: he would want us to go, you know, still do
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: the trip. And so, I called Wolf separately, and he
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: sort of agreed that he's like, I feel like it's
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: our responsibility to go and be supportive and just let
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: this be whatever it is. You know, it's not meant
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: to be a fun vacation. It's meant to be there
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: for the family and just go. And so, me and
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: Wolf agree to go with Nick, and the deal is,
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: it's gonna be the three of us, the three friends,
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: Nick's mom, like usual, and then she had two much
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: older sons. They were in their 30s at the time.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: We're 16. I hadn't met them before. Um, I knew
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: they existed, but, you know, the rumor was that they
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: would be joining us at the cabin, presumably the night
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: we got there. We were gonna be there for three nights.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: They were gonna join us. And so, without even telling
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: Wolf or I, we sort of understood that they're going
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: there to sort of fill the obvious gap left behind
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: by Nick's dad's absence. And so, that's sort of what
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: we think we're walking into. And so, we, uh... The
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: day comes, just a couple of days later, Nick's mom comes,
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: picks me up, and it's me, Wolf, and Nick in
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: the back seat. It's a big SUV, and Nick's mom
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: is driving, and the front passenger seat is conspicuously empty.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: That's where the dad would sit. And so, up to
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: New Hampshire we go. And at this point, I've embraced
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: the situation, and I'm just looking to be a good friend.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: So is Wolf.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: We just go up there. It is what it is.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: So we go up to the cabin and a couple
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: more points about the cabin that are sort of important
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: for the story is the cabin itself is situated on
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: a mountain. It's built on a mountain. If you think
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: about how you'd build a level house on a slope,
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: you got to sort of put half the house, if
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: you will, out on stilts to keep it up supported.
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: And then the other half is sort of effectively built
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: into the mountain, you know, to build something on a slope,
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: I guess. I hope that makes sense. And so that's
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: how this one's built. Basically, half the house was sort
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: of jutting off the mountain with big stilts and a
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: big wraparound porch that went around the outside. And then
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: sort of like a section of the house was sort
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: of burrowed into the mountain. And when you drive up
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: this mountain, you'd turn onto a little access road and
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: you'd be approaching the house, sort of looking at it
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: from a profile view. You'd see on the left side
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: is the stilted side and the right side is the
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: side buried in the mountain. The door is right in
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: front of you as you pull up to it. The
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: door to get into the cabin, you actually have to
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: step onto the wraparound porch and take a few steps,
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: and then there's a door that leads directly into the
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: side of the cabin. And once you step inside, you're
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: standing quite literally between the kitchen on your right, where
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: there's linoleum under your right foot, and on your left
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: is this shag carpet where the dining room is. So
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: you step in and you're straddling these two rooms. There's
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: also sleigh bells that they kept on the door. So
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: anytime you opened it, you could always hear it opening.
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: And so you walk into the cabin and there's just
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: like one big open room. It's an open floor plan.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: It's a very small cabin. So, kitchen over here, dining
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: room here with a table in it. And if you
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: just kept walking straight towards the back of this cabin, again,
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: not very big, you'd enter the living room. There's no
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: wall demarcating it. You just sort of get to a
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: couch with a TV on the back of the cabin.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: And if you turned around in that back of the
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: cabin and looked up, you'd see a lofted second floor.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: And basically at the backside of the cabin, there's stairs
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: that go up to the second floor. So it's just
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: a lofted second floor. That's where the mom and dad,
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: that's where they would sleep. And then where we would
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: sleep is when you first walk in and you got
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: the kitchen on your right, you got the dining room
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: on your left. If you walk like halfway through the
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: cabin and you stopped and you turned right, you're now
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: looking into the mountain that direction. There's a single hallway.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: that goes straight down and then makes a tiny little left,
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: and there's one bedroom that is where we would sleep.
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: And when you go into that bedroom, you'd walk in.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: It's a corner-fed room, if you will, for our military days.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: And immediately on your right is a bunk bed. I
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: would sleep on the lower bunk. Wolf would sleep on
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: the top bunk. And then with basically all the remaining
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: space in the room, it's not a very big room,
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: was like a queen-size bed where Nick would sleep. And
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: there was just enough space where you could walk between
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: the queen size and the bunk bed, a little row there.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: So all that will make sense once we get into
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: the story or what really happens. So anyways, we get
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: up to the mountain, we get to the cabin, we
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: put our stuff down and right away, you know, even
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: though it's midday, we head out to Aditash. I think
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: that's the name of the mountain we went to and
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: we snowboard all day and it's great. You know, even
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: though it's a sad trip, it was wonderful to be
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: out on the mountain. And then we come back. And
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: at this point, we were told that the brother, one
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: of the two older brothers was likely going to be
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: there late at night. He was coming in from some
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: trip he had. And so basically, he was going to
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: get there, but it was going to be late at night,
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: likely after we fell asleep. So there's no reason to
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: stay up for him. And so we were at the
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: cabin and the three of us are like, man, let's
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: just like go to bed right now. It's like seven
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: or eight o'clock. Let's just go to bed. And we
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: can get up super early and like hit the mountain
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: and snowboard all day tomorrow. It's going to be awesome.
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: And so we go in our bedroom and the other
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: two fall asleep like immediately, but I just like can't sleep.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: There's no reason for it. Just couldn't sleep. Maybe I
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: was excited. And I had like a PlayStation one in
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: there and I was playing like SSX tricky, that little
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: snowboarding game, just crushing video games. I just couldn't sleep.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: But finally I'm like, all right, I gotta, I gotta,
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: I gotta go to bed. So I turn it off
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: and I get into the bunk and it's, it, it's
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: truly pitch black inside this room. The room has been
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: built into the mountain. You know, it's not some secret room,
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: it's just the way the cabin is constructed. There's no windows.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: You know, it's bunkered in the mountain. And so, there's
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: no light coming in, and it's the middle of the night.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: And the only light in the room was just a
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: digital clock that had a little red dial to it,
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: a little red digital face. That was the only light
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: in the room. But it's truly like a pitch black room.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: And so I'm laying there, and I still can't sleep,
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: and my feet are closest to the door, and Wolf
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: is the same orientation above me, and Nick is the
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: same orientation next to me. And I'm laying there, and
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: at a certain point, I hear footsteps out on the
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: wraparound porch. And I didn't hear a car approach. I
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: also wasn't actively listening for sounds outside. I was trying
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: to fall asleep. But I remember hearing these footsteps on
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: the wraparound porch. And, you know, I think that I
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: mentioned it before in another story, it's amazing what your
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: brain will do. I've seen this in this particular story
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: and I've also seen it, you know, in the military
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: where you're met with like overwhelming evidence that something bad
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: is happening, but your brain is like, nope, everything is fine.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: And like, it's the middle of the night on a
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: mountain and I'm hearing footsteps on the wraparound porch. And
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: so my brain immediately jumps to, oh, it's Nick's brother.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: It has to be Nick's brother. It's like two, three
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: in the morning right now. We knew he was gonna
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: be here. I've never met him. And it's funny, my
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: go-to thought was, I'm gonna pretend to be asleep because
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: I'm not, I don't wanna have a social interaction with
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: this dude right now. Never met him before. It's like
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: three in the morning. I was gonna walk in and
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: be like, yo, get up, let's chat, let's meet, you know? Like,
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: he's not gonna do that. But that's all I'm thinking.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, just do your best, like a
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: sleep impression. And so I'm sitting there and I hear
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: these footsteps and they're out on the porch, which is
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: elevated off the grounds. It's pretty echoey and it's like
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: silent in the house beyond that. And so the footsteps,
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: they stop outside the door, the door that leads into
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: the kitchen and the living room. And I hear the
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: door open and I can hear the sound of the
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: sleigh bells on the door ringing. So it makes sense,
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: the door's opening, he's here. And... the first thing that
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: I noticed that seemed off was I didn't hear the
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: door shut again. I just heard it open. And the footsteps,
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: when they're out on the wraparound porch, that is an
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: elevated wooden platform, makes sense that they would like echo
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: in a sense, or that you would hear them. The
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: cabin is not echoey. There's shag carpet and it's like
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: cement slab. You don't hear people's footsteps. But when the
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: footsteps came into the cabin, I continued to hear them
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: like they were echoing, almost like they were out on
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: the wraparound porch. And so footsteps wraparound porch, the door opens,
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: the sleigh bells, the footsteps come into the cabin and
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: they're like echoing through, echo's not even the right word.
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: They're loud. Like I can hear like a thump with
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: each step. And I'm telling myself it has to be
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: one of Nick's brothers. That's all it can be. There's
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: no other explanation here because any alternative is awful. There's
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: no other good alternative. And so the footsteps are moving
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: and I had this weird thought that I can only
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: describe this way. It was almost like I could see
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: in my mind's eye where they were in the house. Whoever,
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: whatever this was, it was like I was intimately aware,
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: probably because I was having like a fight or flight
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: reaction and my brain was going crazy. It was like
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: with every step, it was like I could see the
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: feet like moving exactly where they were in the cabin.
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: And I could tell as the footsteps you know, hard
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: stomped through the cabin, they stopped and I knew they
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: were stopping right at the point where you would turn
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: and you would, if you wanted to, you'd walk down
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: the hallway that led to us. There's no other, once
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: you'd come down this hallway, we're the only room that's left, right?
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: And so, I'm picturing in my mind like, okay, this
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: has got to be Nick's brother, but like, what's going
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: on here? Why do I have this weird thought about this?
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: The footsteps stop at that point and they turn and
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: they begin walking down the hallway towards our room. Our
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: door's shut. pitch dark beyond the little red light in
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: the room. And I, at this point, I'm starting to wonder, like, okay,
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: I don't know if this could be Nick's brother. This
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: just feels awkward. It feels wrong. The door's not shut. Like,
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: what's up with these footsteps being this loud? Is this
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: an intruder? Is it a predator?
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: Is it an animal that's come into the house? Like
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: all these thoughts are going through my head and they're
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: all bad. And I remember having this almost paralyzing fear
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: come over me as the footsteps began coming down the hall.
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: Because all I'm thinking is in a moment here, invariably,
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: it seems like the door is going to open and
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: I'm going to have to have some sort of interaction
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: with whoever, whatever this is. Wolf and Nick are dead asleep.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: And I'm so scared with fear. I can't make a sound.
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: I'm so scared. I'm so scared. And so I'm laying
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: there and the footsteps come down the hallway and then
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: they stop right outside the door. So it comes down
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: the hallway and it turns and it's facing the doorway
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: that's shut. And I'm looking towards the foot of my bed,
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: the bunk bed now, and there's a space between the
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: top bunk and where I'm laying. And so I have
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: a little bit of a view on this door that's
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: on the wall here. I can see the door and
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: the door opens inwardly and it's so dark. But like
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: my mind, I'm like, I know where the door is.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: I know, like, even though I can't see it, I
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: know if anybody comes in, they're gonna be right there.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: And so, I'm laying here, staring down through the slat
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: in my bunk bed. The door opens, and this dark,
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: tall figure walks into the room. And each step is
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: like this thunderous boom as it's walking into the room. Like,
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: it's echoing through the whole house, it feels like. Like,
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: I'm amazed no one else has woken up to it.
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: And I see it walk past, and I'm gonna explain this,
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: I see it walk past the slats in the bed
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: or that space in the bed. And the room is
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: like pitch black. There's really no light coming in even
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: when the door opened up. There's a tiny bit of
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: light from the digital clock, but there's virtually no light.
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: And I could practically perfectly make out a dark silhouette
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: within a dark room. It was like I could see
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: it clear as day as if there was a light
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: being shown on it. this tall, dark figure that walks
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: past the bed. And I'm laying here, and my view
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: is partially obscured by the top bunk over here. Like,
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: I can see Nick on the bed there. I can
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: basically see the whole room. But if you're standing real
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: close to the bed, and you were to walk down
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: the row, and you were taller than the top bunk,
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: let's say, I couldn't actually see you unless I moved
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: my head and looked up at you, right? So, I'm
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: laying here, and this thing walks into the room, it
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: turns at the foot of the bed, and it begins
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: marching down the space between where I'm laying and where
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Nick is laying. And it's so tall that from my perspective,
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: I can only like see its thighs, if you will,
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: like its hips would be above the top bunk. Like
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: it doesn't feel physically possible that it's so tall. And
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: it marches right next to me and it stops. And
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: I'm laying there sweating bullets. I honestly don't think I've
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: been more scared in my life. I don't think I've
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: ever been more scared. And all I remember thinking, I
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: said it in the YouTube video that I told, and
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: it became like a meme within my community of fans.
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: I was like, very earnestly, I was like, all I
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: could think was, please, God, whatever or whoever you are,
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: Don't bend down here and look at me because it'll
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: ruin my life to like have to interact with you.
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: But I'm laying there. All I'm thinking is, oh my God,
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: like don't interact with me. Don't like, I know this
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: is not your next brother. I don't know who or
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: what this is, but it like turned away from me
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: almost like a military facing movement because it had marched
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: down the way and it turned away from me. Now
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: it's looking out. over Nick's bed. I'm frozen, like paralyzed.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: I was helpless.
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: He could have destroyed me. I couldn't do anything. And
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: it like bowed forward into Nick and like bent forward
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: into Nick and then disappeared into the ground, just was gone. And,
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: you know, in a movie, let's say, I think you
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: might be like, oh, now it's safe. The ghost Melted
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: into the floor. We can run away now.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: All good, everybody.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: Right. But like in real life, I'm like, where did
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: it go? Where is it? That's not how, that's not normal.
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: You know, there's so many questions. Like, what do I
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: do now? And so I'm laying in bed wondering if
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: it's going to like poke its head up and look
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: at me. And again, it's like, this is horrible, horrible thing.
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: And so, I just laid there in bed waiting for
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: whatever or whoever this was to reemerge. And I didn't move.
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: And I'm like frozen solid, just so scared. And at
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: a certain point when nothing happened in the room, I
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: must have fallen asleep. That's the only explanation because it's
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: like this gray area post seeing it to when I
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: wake up. But I basically come to or wake up
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: very shortly after this. I only could have slept for
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: like an hour tops. And I realized that Nick and
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: Wolf are both up out of the bed. It's just me.
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: There's a little bit of light in there, and I
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: can hear out in the kitchen the sound of Nick's
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: mom doing her morning routine. And I'm so relieved. The
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: room is safe again. I'm up out of the bed,
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: and I go running. I'm sorry, Nick and Wolf, they're
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: still in their bedroom, but I can hear Nick's mom.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: That's actually important. So I wake up. I hear Nick's mom.
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: Nick and Wolf are still in bed. I know it's
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: safe now. I pop out of bed, and I run
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: into the kitchen, or I go into the kitchen, and
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: I'm about to tell her I had all these questions,
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: you know, I wanted to say to her. I mean,
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: I'm 16, I'm a kid, you know, I need some
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: reassurance from an adult. But I instantly was like, wait
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: a minute, she has just lost her husband, like a
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: couple of days ago. And I am gonna come dangerously
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: close to like potentially having a sort of offensive conversation
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: if I start being like, oh, I think I saw
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: a ghost last night in my room. Who do you
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: think it is? You know what I mean? So I
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: just was like, how do I approach this? How old
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: are you? I was 16. But I was like, oh,
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: I have the perfect thing to ask.

- 1:44:14Speaker 2: So I go in the kitchen and I'm like shaking
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: up because I know this happened. This was not like
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: some fleeting dream, like something happened. And I say to her,
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, and she's making coffee, doing her thing.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: And I'm like, hey, Did your sons, your older sons,
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: did one of them show up last night? And she
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: sort of looked at me and she just didn't say anything.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: And I'm like, were they here? Did they stop by
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: at any point? And she goes, no. And I just,
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: I clearly had a reaction to that. She could see
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: a reaction from me. I was like, let down. Like
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: that was my one silver bullet. Maybe that was Nick's
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: brother being really weird last night, you know? And she
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: looks at me and she's like, John, it's okay. It
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: was just my husband. I heard him last night too.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: And I got to tell you, that was not a
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: reassuring thing to hear from a parent. I, it caught
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: me so flat footed because it's like, I haven't even,
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: I came out there looking like shit. I came out
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: there looking like I had seen a ghost. I clearly
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: was probing about something that happened last night. I'm asking,
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: I'm doubling down on, was your son here? She, she
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: just sort of said it. And I didn't even know
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: what to do. And so, I just was like, I
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: can't talk to her. I can't. I don't want to
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: talk to her about this. I don't even know what
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: to say or do. I'm just gonna sit down. I began, like, drinking, like,
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: ten cups of coffee, just, like, doing anything to take
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: my mind off this. And then, not long after, Wolf
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: and Nick came out of the bedroom. And they came over,
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: and Nick's doing his own thing, and I pulled Wolf aside.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: And I just told him outright, I was like, dude,
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: this is what happened last night. And he's like, fuck, dude, like,
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: I don't know what to tell you. That's horrifying. sucks
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: dude like i don't tell you you know but i
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: told him and i'm like i'm telling you i don't
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: i don't know what to make of it and i
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: said that's what nick's mom said like she i think
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: she's referencing whatever happened to me and he was like
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: freaked out by it but he's also like i don't
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: know man like yeah there's got to be an explanation
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: here you know and so i sort of took the
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: stance of this is something i'm not going to understand
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: and i'm just going to act like everything's normal let's
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: just have a normal day of snowboarding and assume that
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: this is okay. Somehow or another, this is okay. And so,
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: we do our morning routine, we go snowboarding for the day,
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: and pretty quickly, once I'm out of the cabin and
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: we're snowboarding, like, it was like, it all evaporated from
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: my mind. I forgot about it. Had a great day
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: of riding, you know, and then at the end of
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: the night, when it was time to come home, the
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: one thing I did do is I said to Nick
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: and Wolf, I'm like, hey, tonight, when we're back there,
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: because we have two more nights at this cabin, I'm like,
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: can you guys just like let me fall asleep first
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: before you? Let me enter the slumber realm ahead of you.
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: And they're like, oh yeah, definitely. We'll definitely do that
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: for you. And so, we get back to the cabin
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: and I checked in with Nick's mom. I said, hey,
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: tonight we're expecting your sons or one of them. And
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: she's like, yeah, they're probably gonna be here tonight. And
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, these elusive brothers, I guess they're gonna
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: be here tonight. And so, I'm in bed at like seven.
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: I'm in my bed. I barely slept the night before
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: and I'm like just trying to.
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: Go to bed.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: And I remember the one thing that I did that
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: made it feel like more real is I put in
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: the springs underneath the bed above me, I put a
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: knife like slotted into the springs, you know, to protect myself.
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: But I'm like, nothing's going to happen.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: I'm fine.
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: And so, I lay there in bed and I cannot
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: fall asleep because I'm doing that whole like, oh my God,
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: I need to fall asleep before then. I'm like, I
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: can't be awake. And so, it was impossible to sleep.
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: And eventually, you know, Nick and Wolf are like, dude,
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: we're going to bed. It's like midnight. We're going to bed.
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: We're not just going to sit here until you do.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: And I'm like, fine. I'm like kicking their bed and
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: like trying to keep them up. But eventually they fell asleep.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: And once again, I am alone in the room, wide awake.
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: It's dark. With a knife. Oh, I have my stupid
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: knife right above me. And I'm laying there and time
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: was just going by. And at some point, maybe two,
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: three in the morning, I remember hearing the sound of
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: the steps out on the wraparound porch. And it was
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: the same. It was like.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: It happened again?
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: I'm laying there and I hear the sound on the
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: wraparound porch. And because I've now had one experience the
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: first night, This feels the same. And it just defies
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: everything we think we understand about how the way the
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: world works, the way things work. And I was just
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: instantly in that paralysis state that like so scared, I
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: can't move. Like I'm dead. And I'm looking up at
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: this fucking knife that I can't even move my arm
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: to get, you know? And I'm laying there and I
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: hear the footsteps on the porch. I hear the door.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: It opens, the sleigh bells. One other thing that I
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: failed to mention the first night is another thing is
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: as soon as the door opened and there were sleigh bells,
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: I also heard a pot fall to the linoleum floor.
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: That was the first night that did happen. It happened
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: again second night. So it's like a mirror image. It's
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: the same thing happening two nights in a row, like
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: exactly the same. And then I hear these loud footsteps as,
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: you know, this thing I can like see it in
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: my mind's eye is like walking through the house, the cabin.
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: It stops, it turns and begins walking down hallway towards
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: our room. And it's the same as the night before.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: I know it's not one of Nick's brothers. This is
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: an intruder. I don't know what this is, and I'm horrified.
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: The door opens up, and again, it's this tall figure
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: that walks into the room. I see its hips, if
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: you will, through the slot of the bed above me
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: and mine. It's so tall, I can't see it. It
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: marches past me next to the bed. And then again,
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: same as the night before, I'm praying it doesn't look
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: at me and ruin my life. turns away from me
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: and bows into Nick and vanishes. And so, it's really
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: the same thing in a row, the same thing two
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: nights in a row, and not comforting. Like, worse. It
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: only made it more real that it had happened again.
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: And I'm still laying there wondering where it went. It
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: isn't like, oh, don't worry, yesterday it vanished. It'll vanish today.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: Like, it was the same. It was like replay. And I, again,
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: laid there, could barely sleep. Eventually, out of sheer exhaustion
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: from snowboarding all day, barely sleeping. I did fall asleep.
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: And then I woke up at a certain point. And again,
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: I hear Nick's mom out in the kitchen. This time,
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: that morning, when I got out of bed and went
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: in there, I didn't care at all about being offensive.
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: Didn't care in the least. I walked out there and
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: I was hysterical. I don't even know what to say
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: to you. Please tell me your sons were here. And
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: I just tell her everything. And the whole time she's
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: She's looking at me and she's a wonderful woman. She's
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: so motherly, so nice. She's just like, I can almost
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: feel like she felt bad for me or something. She's
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: listening to me. She's not dismissing me, but she's just
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: letting me do my cathartic ranting about how terrified I
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: am and what the fuck's going on here. I want
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: to leave. And at the end of it, she's just like, John,
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: it's really okay. It's just my husband. I heard him
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: here last night. I heard him here the night before.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: It's fine. That's what I'm hearing from the adult. in
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: the house and it was just like, this, this is
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: not all right. And I remember on that morning, we
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: have one more night at this house still, and it
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: gets worse. Actually, somehow it gets worse. Um, I was like,
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: I want to go home. I just want to fucking
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: go home. I don't want to be here, but this
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: is a trip that I have looked forward. I look for,
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: this is like the one big trip. Like my family
- 1:51:56Speaker 2: didn't have a lot of money or anything. This was
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: like a big deal to get to go do this
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: big trip. This was awesome. And it was like all
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: I talked about. And so the idea that I'd be
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: calling my folks up, like, yo, drive to New Hampshire,
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: pick me up and bring me home, because I'm seeing
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: ghosts in the cabin.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: There's a fucking ghost.
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: It just felt like too, and then it also, it
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: was like, I don't know how this will be interpreted long-term.
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: You know, am I being totally insensitive to the fact
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: that I went here to support the family who's lost
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: their dad, and I'm claiming a ghost scared me off.
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: It just, it was a lot. And I grappled with it.
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: And I remember I talked to, openly to everybody, to
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: the mom, to Nick, to Wolf. I'm like, I'm just
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: gonna stay. I was openly saying that I wanted to
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: get the fuck out of here, but I'll just stay.
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: It's one more night. I'll stay with you guys. It
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: is what it is. It was a weird morning. It
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: was so weird because she's almost reassured to hear me
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: confirming what she thinks she's hearing. I don't even know.
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: It was good for her. She wanted to talk about
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: this and I didn't want to talk about it. And
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: Nick the son of the deceased, he's like totally doesn't
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: want to hear any of it. And Wolf is like
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: very scared now. He's like getting worked up by it.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: It was just a very weird thing. But anyways, we
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: got one more night and I'm like, God, just got
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: to get through one more night of this awful experience.
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: And so that day after doing our weird breakfast routine,
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: you know, we found out one that the brothers were
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: not going to be stopping by after all. Turns out,
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: you know, it didn't really matter, but they were not
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: going to be stopping by. So that night, the one
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: more night I had, I didn't even have like a,
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: a thing to cling on to that could be the
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: reason behind these sounds. But before his mom, Nick's mom,
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: drove us to the mountain that day, we made a
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: very small pit stop at this woodworking shop that was
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: near the cabin. She was picking up a new coffee
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: table that they were going to place in the cabin
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: at the foot of the stairs that led up to
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: the second floor of the lofted area. And she just
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: needed me and Nick and Wolf to literally lift it,
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: put it in the Jeep. And so we go to
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: the woodworking shop. We get this new coffee table, this
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: beautiful wood coffee table. We put it in the SUV.
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: We go to the mountain. We do our snowboarding for
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: the day. And I honestly was so checked out. I
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: didn't really care. I just wanted to get time to pass.
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: I just wanted to be done. We come back from snowboarding.
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: We get picked up. And when we get back to
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: the cabin, Nick's mom had us offload this heavy coffee
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: table and walk it in. And we put it by
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: the foot of the stairs that led to the second floor. Um,
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: and then we went to bed. And I, again, instructed
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: Nick and Wolf, like, stay awake, let me sleep. But
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: they didn't. They fell asleep, I'm awake in the room
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: by myself. And I'm just furious. That was how I...
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: Anger was the feeling I had. I felt so mad that, like,
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: I'm in this position. How can I be in this position?
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: What have I done here?
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: This is the third time.
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: This is the worst. And so, I'm laying there, and
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: sure enough, it's like three in the morning. and I
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: hear those fucking steps on the wraparound porch. And it's like,
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: I'm losing my mind. Like, I don't even know, there's
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: no way to react to this. This is awful. And so,
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: I'm terrified, I'm looking at my stupid knife and the door,
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: it opens, I hear the sleigh bells, the pot falls,
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: the linoleum, it's the third night in a row. This
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: is like crazy. The footsteps come into the cabin. But
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: this night, something new happens. When the footsteps reach that
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: point where they would turn and come down the hallway
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: to where our bedroom was, Instead of that, they kept
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: walking to the very back of the first floor of
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: the cabin. And again, it's almost like in my mind's eye,
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: I could like see exactly where they were moving in
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: the house based on how loud the thumps were or whatever.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: And it was really actually surprisingly way more terrifying when
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: I figured out or when I could sense here that
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: this thing was not gonna be following the pattern. You know,
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: as awful as the pattern was, come into the room,
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: bow into Nick, and I'm terrified all night. I didn't
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: die at the end of it, like things were contained,
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: but now it's like something new is happening. And it
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: suddenly was like, this thing has the capacity to like
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: sink into the ground. Like what's going on here? And
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: so the footsteps go past that turn point and it
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: goes to the very back of the first floor and
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: there's a pause. And then I hear the footsteps going
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: up the stairs to the second floor where Nick's mom is.
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: And so I hear the footsteps and it's like basically
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: right above us. And at a certain point, the footsteps
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: just stop. And I spent the rest of the night
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: laying there, looking up at the bunk above me, waiting
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: for this entity to float through the ceiling and like
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: come down to me. Oh, shit. And then bowed into
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: the ground the day before. So, it's like all night,
- 1:56:33Speaker 2: I'm just laying there so scared. This is the worst
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: night of the three. You know, I didn't hear any
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: more sounds after that. At a certain point, I must
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: have dozed off again, because it's like I'm on fumes
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: at this point. I wake up, it's super early. you know,
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: earlier than the past two mornings. I had gotten up
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: at probably four in the morning. And Nick and Wolf
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: are still asleep in their bed. It's still pretty dark,
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: but I can hear something out in the living space.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: And it sounded like Nick's mom. And it sounded like
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: she was crying. Frankly, didn't fucking care. Just wanted to leave.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: Got out of bed and I went out there and
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: it was like, I'm not even looking for explanations. I'm
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: not looking to talk about this. I can just be done.
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: I can go out here and we can just leave.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: And I go out of the hallway and I look
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: over to the kitchen where I expect her to be,
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: and she's not there. She's over on the stairs, like
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: leading up to the second floor. And she's definitely crying.
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: And I look over at her and before I can
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: ask anything, she just goes, John, come here. And she's
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: standing over that coffee table that we had put at
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: the foot of the stairs the day before. And I
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: walk over to her and she's crying. And I sense
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: that she's not crying tears of sadness. She's happy. These
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: are happy tears. And I'm getting ready to ask questions here,
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: but she just stops me and points at the surface
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: of the coffee table. And I look at the coffee
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: table and etched into the wood is the words, I
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: love you. And she goes, I didn't write that.
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: Holy shit, dude. What?
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: And so I will say the conclusion to this story is,
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: this ended my relationship with everybody in the story. I didn't,
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: this is it. That's the end of the relationship with
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: these people. This was so traumatic for me. It was like, well,
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: I'll just never talk to any of you again. And
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: I'm thinking like, think of the, the, the, the answers
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: for what could have happened range pretty much that it's like, okay.
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: Let's go through the exercise of perhaps Nick's mom, in
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: the state of grief that she is in, somehow picked
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: up on that I had had some sort of nightmare
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: or whatever. And took it upon herself to pretend that
- 1:58:47Speaker 2: she too had like seen a ghost or something, right? Mm-hmm.
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: Why would you do that to me? One would be
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: a question. But two, like, I didn't give up that
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: I saw anything. on that first morning. It isn't like
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: I walked out and said, hey, last night I heard
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: somebody walking around the cabin. Was it your son? I
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: tried to ask as like diplomatically, I'm sure I had
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: a look. I'm sure I looked scared. How could she
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: have possibly thought, oh, I know what this is. He
- 1:59:14Speaker 2: must have had a thought that somebody was walking around
- 1:59:17Speaker 2: the cabin last night. I'm going to capitalize on that
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: and pretend that it's my husband. And it was so
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: immediate that she agreed with me and said that was
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: my husband and it's okay. It's just... It doesn't mean
- 1:59:28Speaker 2: it's not possible. In fact, if there's any rational explanation,
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: it's that she, out of grief and sadness, did this
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: to make it feel like her husband was still around.
- 1:59:38Speaker 2: But even that, like, I don't know. I don't know
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: if you could do it that quickly and that well.
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: It's possible.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: It's certainly possible. But then it's like, what's the alternative?
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: It wasn't me. Certainly wasn't me. And I'm the guy
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: that sleepwalks. I'm the guy that has all the reason
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: in the world to say, oh, no, I... There's probably,
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: this was, this was my mind. This was, but it's,
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: it's not, it was corroborated.
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: That is wild. You've never spoken to them again.
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: Wolf a little bit, Nick zero of his mom's zero.
- 2:00:13Speaker 2: I mean, the little bit is about the fact that
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: I've told this story.
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:00:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: Holy shit.
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: And it's funny, like the, the reason we cut ties
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: or I did, it wasn't malice. It was like, dude,
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: we can't get over this. Yeah. This is not something
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: I'm able to get over.
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: Dude, we've had some stuff happen.
- 2:00:33Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: Yeah. We had Tim, who's behind one of these cameras here.
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: He was there for it. Elijah, he's upstairs. He was
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: there for it. So before I did the podcast thing,
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: I was basically throwing shit at the wall to see
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: what stuck because I was so tired of tactics. And
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: I was just done with it. And so I was,
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: one of my ideas was, oh, I know we're going
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: to do like this reality TV survival scenario series or whatever, right?
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: So first one I did was Tim was there. Like
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: I said, Elijah was there. Tim was one of the contestants.
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: It was like, hey, you got 50 bucks or 100
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: bucks or something. End of the world's happening. We're going
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: to Bass Pro and you have to buy everything, you know.
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: that you would need to survive on a time limit.
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: So we rented this cabin, this old like Civil War
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: cabin out in this area called College Grove. It's like 20,
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: 30 minutes from here. And, you know, this is, you know, Franklin,
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: you know, this area, this is front lines Civil War.
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: There's a lot, yeah, yeah, lots of, Confederate Union cemeteries around,
- 2:01:53Speaker 1: lots of buildings that were shot up, bloodstains on the floor,
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: lots of ghost stuff around here. There's ghost tours all
- 2:02:02Speaker 1: over town. Anyways, we go to this old cabin, a
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: little bit of a backstory. So it took my wife
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: and I over a year to find a place to
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: live here when we were moving up from Florida. We
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: just kept getting outbid by it. californians this is like
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: the big migration oh really and uh we just couldn't
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: afford it and so um i looked i looked at
- 2:02:29Speaker 1: my wife and i was like i'm getting tired of
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: putting in offers on houses and getting outbid like just
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: the shit's getting depressing this is our seventh trip up
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: here let's just go get a cabin out in the
- 2:02:40Speaker 1: woods enjoy the You know, enjoy Tennessee for the rest
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: of this trip, and then we'll go and find some
- 2:02:48Speaker 1: place to move in Florida that's out of the city.
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: So we go to this cabin, run it. It's awesome.
- 2:02:55Speaker 1: It's out in the middle of nowhere. It's in this,
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: you know, cow pasture, like out in the rolling hills.
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: Family owns it. It's an Airbnb. Family owns it. That's, that's, that's, that's,
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: you know, who knows? The farm has been in their
- 2:03:10Speaker 1: family for generations. I'm like, this is pretty fucking cool.
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: It's like one of those old school log homes, you know?
- 2:03:17Speaker 1: And I woke up and I kept like, I woke
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: up in the middle of the night and I just
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: kept hearing this banging on the roof. And I'm like, well,
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: you know, wake Katie up. And I'm like, what is that? nothing.
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: She didn't hear anything. She's like, maybe, maybe it was
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: a squirrel. I'm like, no, there's no squirrel that makes
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: this sound on the roof. And, um, and I'm like,
- 2:03:39Speaker 1: all right, well, whatever, maybe I'm dreaming. Maybe I had a,
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: maybe I had a dream or something, but who knows?
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: So I don't really think much of it. Fast forward
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: a couple of years, we're out there for this event.
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: You know, we're doing though, we're doing the survival series.
- 2:03:53Speaker 1: And so we do the, we set up this cabin
- 2:03:55Speaker 1: and we put, you know, the vigilance elite sign up and,
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: for some branding and we're getting it ready to shoot
- 2:04:01Speaker 1: the debrief. Cause we're gonna grab all the shit from
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: Bass Pro, come back, they're gonna present it, I'm gonna
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: grade the two consistence. And we're like trying to plug
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: in the sign and we're plugging in these lamps and
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: trying to build this, you know, kind of a set.
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: And none of the electricals make it sense, but it
- 2:04:19Speaker 1: doesn't hit me. I'm like, that's weird. I plugged the
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: sign in here. doesn't work, plug the lamp in, does work,
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: plug the sign in over there, it does, you know,
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: and it'd be just weird electrical shit going on, but
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: I don't really think anything of it. So we go out,
- 2:04:35Speaker 1: go to Bass Pro. Bass Pro's probably an hour away.
- 2:04:38Speaker 1: We do the exercise, come back. They're presenting all this stuff,
- 2:04:42Speaker 1: like all the stuff that they bought with the budget.
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: And we had only rented the Airbnb for, for what
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: it was like, for the day. And we're in the
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: middle of this debrief. We're supposed to be out by
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: 6 p.m. And I'm like, I'm facing the window. A
- 2:05:04Speaker 1: similar cabin sounds like very similar to what you were in. Everything,
- 2:05:08Speaker 1: it's one big room, right? Kitchen's in the room, dining
- 2:05:11Speaker 1: room's in the room, TV, fireplace. And then there's a
- 2:05:15Speaker 1: spiral staircase that goes up to a loft. But the
- 2:05:18Speaker 1: loft isn't enclosed. You know, you could lean over the.
- 2:05:21Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: You know, see downstairs. So it's all one big room
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: minus the bathroom. We have this little table set up
- 2:05:31Speaker 1: and we start hearing footsteps. And I thought the footsteps were,
- 2:05:37Speaker 1: were outside. This shit's on camera.
- 2:05:40Speaker 2: Oh really?
- 2:05:40Speaker 1: Cause we're filming this stuff. That's yeah. There's a video
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: up on our channel that shows this. And so you
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: see me in the debrief and these guys are talking,
- 2:05:51Speaker 1: and you just see my face all of a sudden,
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: and I like go like this, and I'm looking out
- 2:05:57Speaker 1: the front door, but I see my, I thought I
- 2:06:01Speaker 1: saw somebody else's reflection, but it wound up being mine
- 2:06:06Speaker 1: while I'm hearing footsteps, and you just see my face
- 2:06:14Speaker 1: go like, what the fuck? And then the reflection turns
- 2:06:19Speaker 1: into my reflection, But on the camera, so the footsteps
- 2:06:23Speaker 1: were upstairs. I thought it was the porch. You know,
- 2:06:27Speaker 1: it was a wooden porch out there. It's past six.
- 2:06:30Speaker 1: I figure this is probably, you know, the owners coming
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: to say, like, hey, guys, we've got a wedding coming
- 2:06:36Speaker 1: up tomorrow. You've got to get the hell out of here.
- 2:06:41Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: We pull the camera footage. Well, first, like, then I
- 2:06:45Speaker 1: look up. All three of us that are on camera
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: all look up at the exact same time, and you
- 2:06:53Speaker 1: hear these fucking footsteps. And I look at Tim and Adam,
- 2:06:59Speaker 1: and I'm like, did you guys just fucking hear that?
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: My wife was there. Elijah was there behind the camera.
- 2:07:07Speaker 1: We had a marketer there that was behind. Every single
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: person in the room is looking up going, what the
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: fuck was that? We packed the shit up. I'm like,
- 2:07:20Speaker 1: get the fuck out of here. Like, right now. Fuck this.
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: We're not even going to finish. Get out of here.
- 2:07:26Speaker 1: So we load up all the camera shit, load up
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: the microphones, put the furniture back. I can't even remember.
- 2:07:32Speaker 1: Did we go upstairs and even look? He goes, yeah.
- 2:07:41Speaker 1: So we pack all this shit up. Dude, I did
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: not even want to look at the cabin because there's
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: a there's on the top. in the loft, which is
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: where like the bedroom is where me and my wife
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: were sleeping when I heard the banging on the roof.
- 2:07:55Speaker 1: There's a little window and you have to close this gate.
- 2:07:58Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm not, even fucking looking in that damn window.
- 2:08:02Speaker 1: I don't give a shit. I have guns. It's not
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: gonna kill whatever's up there. So we hightail it back
- 2:08:12Speaker 1: to my house, immediately pull the footage. I'm like, pull
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: the footage. Let's see what that shit was. On the footage,
- 2:08:20Speaker 1: if I remember correctly, you do not hear the footsteps.
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: Do you remember this? Do you hear the footsteps? We
- 2:08:27Speaker 1: have it. We'll pull it. I'm going to have a question.
- 2:08:29Speaker 1: So I'm going to have both of you step outside.
- 2:08:32Speaker 1: I'm going to bring each one of you in.
- 2:08:46Speaker 2: And this fucking place is haunted as fuck.
- 2:08:48Speaker 1: Every time there's a footstep, you can hear the static
- 2:08:52Speaker 1: in the camera. So it'd be like, God, I call
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: my best friend. We're like, we're all blown away. We're like,
- 2:09:01Speaker 1: Holy shit. There's a fucking ghost in there. And I
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: call my best friend later that night. And I'm like, Hey, John,
- 2:09:12Speaker 1: check this shit out. Listen to this. What do you
- 2:09:13Speaker 1: think of this? I tell him the whole story. He goes,
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: pull up. He goes, look, pull up the Airbnb, pull
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: it up right now, and just see what the reviews say.
- 2:09:23Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, great idea. We pull up the
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: fucking reviews, dude, and it is don't bang on the walls.
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: They bang back. Don't show up after dark because the
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: entire place comes alive. It was just review after review
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: after review of people's haunted stories in that cabin. Haven't
- 2:09:45Speaker 1: been back there since.
- 2:09:46Speaker 2: Holy shit, dude.
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: Fuck that. Dude, that's crazy. I know. I could have
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: swore I told you this. I may have told you
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: this in the last episode. No, I've never heard that.
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: Because I was like, we should do John's episode at
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: that fucking cabin when you came here. But, dude, yeah,
- 2:10:04Speaker 1: true story.
- 2:10:04Speaker 2: The fact that there were those reviews, that's crazy.
- 2:10:07Speaker 1: It's wild, dude. I will– well, when this comes– we'll
- 2:10:10Speaker 1: put– We'll put the footage in the episode so you
- 2:10:14Speaker 1: can see it. Wow, dude, that's nuts.
- 2:10:15Speaker 2: I'd love to see that.
- 2:10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but I believe in paranormal stuff. It scares the
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: shit out of me still today at 43 years old.
- 2:10:23Speaker 2: See, that would be, to feel like, oh, maybe it
- 2:10:27Speaker 2: was something, maybe it was this, but then to see
- 2:10:28Speaker 2: the reviews, that's what confirms your nightmare. Dude, yup. That's
- 2:10:32Speaker 2: the thing.
- 2:10:33Speaker 1: I got more for you. I'll tell you.
- 2:10:35Speaker 2: I'd love to hear it.
- 2:10:35Speaker 1: I'll tell you tonight at the campfire session. But, well, hey, man.
- 2:10:41Speaker 1: I really appreciate all the stories and it's good to
- 2:10:44Speaker 1: get in the Halloween spirit, you know, a couple of
- 2:10:47Speaker 1: days beforehand. So thank you. Thank you for coming.
- 2:10:50Speaker 2: Thank you for the SIG, dude. Are you kidding me?
- 2:10:52Speaker 1: Hey, let's go. Let's go burn it down real quick.
- 2:10:56Speaker 2: Let's do it. Thanks, bro. Cool. Awesome.
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:10:59Speaker 2: Thanks, bro.
