- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from a very wet, rainy, cold, dark
- 0:32farm. Sun is coming up slowly Sunday
- 0:35morning and these are always the days when I go, oh boy, I can't.
- 0:41I love rainy days when it happens on a Sunday and I don't
- 0:45know why. I, I mean, I didn't know why
- 0:48until I decided I was going to talk about this today.
- 0:51But there's something from my childhood that I used to love my
- 0:54mother while she was very anxious about many things and
- 0:57gave me many gifts of anxiety and things like that.
- 1:01She loved to have days where we just sat in and watched old
- 1:06movies. And I remember her, she was
- 1:09obsessed. She didn't cook well.
- 1:10God love her. She did not cook well, but she
- 1:12tried, but she didn't cook well. But she used to love everything
- 1:16that came out of a can. Exact opposite of me.
- 1:20But she would make me oyster Stew in Campbell's, like
- 1:25Campbell's used to sell. I don't even know if they still
- 1:27sell it because it's not something I would get.
- 1:28But she would make oyster Stew, and it was really just a Milky
- 1:32broth with oysters in it. I mean, there's no other way to
- 1:36describe it. And she would line the the my
- 1:39little plate with Ritz crackers to dip into it, although it
- 1:44wasn't even thick to dip into. It was like milk more than
- 1:47anything. And she would make me tea.
- 1:50And we would sit and we would watch Doris Day movies or old,
- 1:55old movies with Jimmy Stewart and you name it, all the old
- 1:59oldies but goodies, and wrap me in a blanket on the couch and
- 2:04light in a fire in the fireplace.
- 2:06And it actually wasn't even a fireplace.
- 2:08It was more like one of those little potbelly stoves.
- 2:10And she would light a fire in there and she wouldn't get
- 2:14dressed. She'd stay in her bathrobe, and
- 2:17it was the few times that I remember consciously of her
- 2:22being relaxed, believe it or not, like really just having
- 2:25fun. She would sit and knit or
- 2:27crochet or needlepoint and I would draw and watch the movie
- 2:32and we were just completely chilled out.
- 2:34Now most of the time my dad would would be working because
- 2:38he worked on a lot of weekends for what he did.
- 2:40And if he wasn't working, he would come in and he would sleep
- 2:43on the couch, lie down on the couch, talk, talk to me about my
- 2:47drawings or whatever. But he would just always chill
- 2:50out. Or when he got home, we had to
- 2:51switch movies and we had to watch something that had to do
- 2:55with the westerns. Like there were always when he
- 2:57was around, we always had westerns on, which was fine with
- 2:59me. I really didn't care.
- 3:01But the point of all of this is when these days show up, how
- 3:05does it shift me? So the first thing, soon as I
- 3:07let the dog out this morning, I had completely different plans
- 3:10today, what I was going to do. And I forgot that it was
- 3:12supposed to really rain. And then I opened up the door
- 3:16and I saw the rain. Because of course Buford turns
- 3:18around and looks at me, and he's like, are you kidding me?
- 3:21Because he hates to go out in the rain.
- 3:23Except he'll jump in the pond and be wet whenever he feels
- 3:26like it, but not the rain. So I'm looking at him, he's
- 3:30looking at me. And I was like instantaneously.
- 3:32I was like, I have to get my drawers done really quickly.
- 3:35I need to get out and do everything that I need to do.
- 3:37And I don't mean getting the girls out.
- 3:39Today is a morning where I usually will run out and do
- 3:42caught the Costco run, the grocery store run, whatever.
- 3:46So my first thought was do it quickly, get it done so you can
- 3:49get home and get in your pajamas.
- 3:52And I started laughing because it was such an instantaneous
- 3:56reaction. And I was like, why am I so hell
- 3:59bent on doing this so quickly? And then I remembered the wiring
- 4:03and then I remembered the whole thing with my mom.
- 4:05And I was like, Oh my gosh, here it comes.
- 4:08So of course now that is my intent today.
- 4:11Today will be a day where I honor my mother and I go and do
- 4:15something that's like that. Now this afternoon will be
- 4:19interesting because it's football day and so everybody's
- 4:22going to be watching football and my husband will be right
- 4:25there with them watching football.
- 4:27So the important thing is to remember I honor those little
- 4:33tiny things, honor them when they show up, if they make you
- 4:36smile and they make you feel good.
- 4:38So I will go out, do all my chores, come back and put my
- 4:41pajamas on. I will be in my pajamas all day
- 4:44today and I will be chilled out and I will be having fun doing
- 4:48something, probably ordering seeds, planting gardens.
- 4:52Maybe I've got to do a little paperwork.
- 4:54Yeah, I'll get that done too. But guess what?
- 4:56The most part, fun part of this day will be all about honoring
- 4:59that. So if it's raining, it's cold.
- 5:02It's gross where you are. Find something like that to make
- 5:05it great. Because I'm actually smiling
- 5:07about it instead of being miserable about it now.
- 5:09Now that I remembered that. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:13you have a cozy day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:16Bye.
