- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken

- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. So today we're talking about
- 0:31responsibilities and how when you add on new goals, new
- 0:35outcomes, new intentions, the responsibility factor goes up.
- 0:40Now you would think this would be logical.
- 0:41I mean, you would say, OK, if I'm going to start a new project
- 0:44or I'm going to start a new endeavor, I'm going to
- 0:48understand that there are going to be unintended consequences
- 0:52maybe that go along with it. So give you a, for instance, you
- 0:55know, you all know I'm doing the jump roping thing and that I
- 1:00have to add that into my schedule.
- 1:02Like that's obvious. If I'm going to do it, I have to
- 1:04add it into my schedule and my schedule is pretty tight.
- 1:08Like I keep a really tight calendar during, especially
- 1:11during the week, I keep a very tight calendar.
- 1:12On the weekends it's very Willy nilly, but during the week I
- 1:16keep a very tight calendar. So if I'm going to slide
- 1:19something in, that means I have to make sure I have the time to
- 1:23do it, which I did. And then you have to realize
- 1:26there are unintended consequences that go along with
- 1:29things. So meaning my responsibilities
- 1:32get moved around, other things happen.
- 1:34I have to make sure I'm adding in enough time or I'm giving
- 1:38myself time on either sides of getting my son ready for school.
- 1:43All these little things all have to be taken into consideration.
- 1:46But where we usually fall short is when we take something on.
- 1:51We don't necessarily think about the responsibilities that will
- 1:54come along with it. The other, the parts of this
- 1:57that will say, oh, like, I want a dog and everyone says, oh,
- 2:00yeah, dogs are a lot of work. Yeah, I know, but I'll be able
- 2:03to do it. But fully understanding the
- 2:05responsibilities of something, no matter what it is, a dog
- 2:10taking a, a you know, a new job, looking to up level yourself,
- 2:14mentor someone, whatever it might be.
- 2:17There are responsibilities that need to be considered.
- 2:20And when you don't consider all of them, you leave yourself open
- 2:24for failure, criticism, feeling like you're depleted.
- 2:29There are a host of things that can show up when this happens.
- 2:33So how do we circumvent this? How do we deal with this?
- 2:36Well, first and foremost, it's imperative to remember to ask
- 2:40the right questions and to say, OK, I really have to look at
- 2:45what responsibilities are going to go along with this so that I
- 2:48know and I can make a list. If you are at the point in your
- 2:54process of the year where you're like struggling all ready to get
- 2:58off the ground with your goals, which is happening for some
- 3:01people. Believe me, I know.
- 3:02I spoke to enough people this week and I hear exactly what's
- 3:06happening. And even though we talked about
- 3:08this, they're like, well, I didn't think about this one.
- 3:11And they, in fact, a few of my clients put in things that we
- 3:16never discussed. So we never fully brainstormed
- 3:19it out. I wasn't able to help them
- 3:21because they didn't bring it up. So it's really important to say,
- 3:25OK, let me think about this all the different ways.
- 3:29What are the other parts that I may have to pay attention to?
- 3:32Like, for instance, one wouldn't think having chickens would be a
- 3:36complicated thing, right? Oh, they're chickens.
- 3:39They're easy, but chickens are much more complicated than
- 3:43people think because you have to make sure you're with the
- 3:46responsibilities. They are highly, highly sought
- 3:50after lunch and snacks for predators.
- 3:52So my responsibility to them is make sure they're safe.
- 3:56I have to check on them often when they're free ranging to
- 3:59make sure nothing's happening. I have to make sure that there
- 4:03are the doors are open in the morning to let them out to free
- 4:07range. I have to make sure their coop
- 4:09is closed, closed up tighter than Fort Knox at night to make
- 4:12sure nothing can get in there. And believe me, we have
- 4:15predators everywhere out here. And I have to make sure that
- 4:19like that I have a plan for how I'm going to keep other things
- 4:23away from them because everything is constantly going
- 4:27after them. So it's why I haven't like over
- 4:30over time, I've come up with things that make it a little bit
- 4:33easier. For instance, I feed the crows
- 4:36and the crows do an excellent job being an alert system.
- 4:39And we feed Bluebirds because the Bluebirds are like little
- 4:42dive bombers that go at Hawks. They don't like them around.
- 4:46Neither do the crows because the Hawks will go after all their
- 4:50nests, so they easily will be happy to take them out.
- 4:54You just have to entice them to stay.
- 4:57And fortunately for me, dried, dried mealworms and peanuts
- 5:00really do the job. So and my responsibility every
- 5:04day caring for the chickens involves feeding birds, believe
- 5:09it or not. Now one would never have thought
- 5:11that that would have gone all the way down that way, but it
- 5:13did because it and then it helps me to take care of them.
- 5:17But it is a responsibility I have to put those snacks out
- 5:20every day if I want them still coming.
- 5:22So the point is, you have to fully think this through.
- 5:27If you are struggling right now, go and think about those
- 5:29responsibilities, see which ones you have to have help with.
- 5:33See if you can leverage any of them, but know them.
- 5:36All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:38see you tomorrow. Bye.
