- 0:00Speaker 1: All right. Well I'm Alex Garrett and this is Terminelo's take. Louis.
- 0:05Speaker 1: If you can tell I'm a little tired, it's because
- 0:07Speaker 1: I was in the heat all day tracking these historic
- 0:10Speaker 1: Class B ships that'll be part of the major display tomorrow.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I mean, let's put sports aside for a minute. This
- 0:17Speaker 1: is a historic weekend. Every fourth of July is but
- 0:20Speaker 1: this is independence. They feel so different, doesn't it. And
- 0:23Speaker 1: you're such a patriotic American outside of sports. I want
- 0:26Speaker 1: to start.
- 0:26Speaker 2: There, Alex, thanks for having me. Yes, this is this
- 0:30Speaker 2: is a milestone, this is my I mean I was
- 0:32Speaker 2: around for the Vice centennial in nineteen seventy six and
- 0:37Speaker 2: there was ships just like there were today and there
- 0:40Speaker 2: will be tomorrow, and it was a it was a major,
- 0:43Speaker 2: major holiday. It's a big deal. It's you know, we
- 0:47Speaker 2: got to remember how great this country is and how
- 0:50Speaker 2: young this country is. You know, we're early two hundred
- 0:53Speaker 2: and fifty years old, and we've approached greatness so early
- 0:57Speaker 2: compared to you know, to other nations, and we should
- 0:59Speaker 2: be proud of that. And you know, I'm looking forward
- 1:03Speaker 2: to Evan tomorrow. I watched today, I looked at the
- 1:07Speaker 2: video you sent me and you had a great You
- 1:10Speaker 2: had a great spot to uh to watch the boats
- 1:14Speaker 2: go down the East River. Even with the heat. You
- 1:17Speaker 2: hung in there like a troop in your patriotic garb.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I loved it. So, yeah, this is this is We
- 1:24Speaker 2: shouldn't just look at it as another weekend, just barbecue
- 1:27Speaker 2: some hamburgers and hot dogs. We really got to think
- 1:30Speaker 2: everybody should read the Constitution tomorrow. They should read the
- 1:33Speaker 2: Constitution of the United States. They should look at their
- 1:35Speaker 2: history books. They should watch some of these documentaries from
- 1:40Speaker 2: the Revolutionary War, and how difficult it was to get
- 1:45Speaker 2: to where we are to be celebrating two fifty and.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I just can't, most importantly to not let anybody, I
- 1:55Speaker 1: don't care what party, rip it away from us. That's
- 1:58Speaker 1: what we cannot have. And then fifty years. But that
- 2:01Speaker 1: that's my own opinion on that.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I know, and I agree with you, Alex cannot.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And sports is a fabric. And I'll tell you the
- 2:08Speaker 1: more political these sports out let's get, the more they
- 2:11Speaker 1: try and tear into that fabric internally. I mean, it's
- 2:16Speaker 1: like we can't just insure enjoy sports are anymore. It
- 2:19Speaker 1: feels like at times.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Alex, You're right, we were as sports fans, no matter
- 2:26Speaker 2: what our political feelings are, to get away from everything
- 2:35Speaker 2: and to djust enjoy the games that we watch, the
- 2:39Speaker 2: teams that we root for. Yes, sometimes the teams that
- 2:41Speaker 2: we root for can get us, get us angry, but
- 2:45Speaker 2: that's part of being the sports fed. And you know
- 2:49Speaker 2: you're right. Political politics should stay out of sports. It
- 2:53Speaker 2: should stay out of sports. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It seems like it's getting well.
- 3:01Speaker 1: The good news is, and I'm thinking about this because
- 3:03Speaker 1: I'm going to the stadium at least tonight, at least
- 3:06Speaker 1: the answer home for George's birthday. And I don't know
- 3:09Speaker 1: if you know this, but John Sterling was also born
- 3:11Speaker 1: in July fourth, so tomorrow.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I didn't know. I did know that, And you know,
- 3:15Speaker 2: you talk about the boss's birthday, John Sterling's birthday. I
- 3:19Speaker 2: remember Dave Righetty, excuse me, Dave Brighetti's no hitter in
- 3:25Speaker 2: nineteen eighty three. I watched. I remember watching that entire
- 3:28Speaker 2: game and it was on Sports Channel. I don't know
- 3:32Speaker 2: if you remember Sports Channel, and the great Mel Allen,
- 3:36Speaker 2: in one of his final years, did the game and
- 3:39Speaker 2: he was still as great as he always was. Brigetti
- 3:42Speaker 2: threw a no hitter against the Red Sox team that
- 3:44Speaker 2: at that time was red hot with the bats. That
- 3:50Speaker 2: was July fourth, New York sports moment. Then in nineteen
- 3:54Speaker 2: eighty five the long rain delay where the Metro playing
- 3:58Speaker 2: in Atlanta and the one in nineteen innings and at
- 4:03Speaker 2: four o'clock in the morning with about five thousand people,
- 4:06Speaker 2: and this stands down in Fulton County Stadium. The Braves
- 4:09Speaker 2: still decided to shoot the fireworks off because it was
- 4:13Speaker 2: also fireworks night on the fourth of July. Keith Hernandez
- 4:18Speaker 2: had the cycle that night. He was I think five
- 4:21Speaker 2: for nine. Rick Camp hit a home run. He was
- 4:27Speaker 2: a pitcher and the Braves had nobody left. The Mets
- 4:29Speaker 2: were up, and he rip Camp hit a home run
- 4:34Speaker 2: off Tom Gorman, somebody who was not one of the
- 4:41Speaker 2: top met relief pitchers. But you know, he threw to
- 4:44Speaker 2: Homer and both John Sterling called that home run on TVs.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Those were in the eight years before he came to
- 4:50Speaker 2: the Yankees. He was with the Braves. Then the Mets
- 4:53Speaker 2: score in the nineteenth and Darling Ron Darling got to
- 4:55Speaker 2: save in Oboma of nineteenth. Just a crazy, crazy.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Guy, and I'd looked back at years. I look up
- 5:00Speaker 1: back at the last thirty five years I've been around,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and the sports moments that have unified us. I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you look at the Piazza homer just ten days after
- 5:10Speaker 1: nine to eleven. You look at the Yankees one World Series,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know, appearance, even though they didn't win, that whole
- 5:17Speaker 1: thing brought the city together. That whole series did after
- 5:21Speaker 1: nine to eleven. Hell, you even look at what having
- 5:23Speaker 1: with Jack Cughes this year scoring goal. I mean, there
- 5:26Speaker 1: are so many American movements. How about nineteen eighty miracle
- 5:29Speaker 1: and ice. I mean, sports is interwoven with us, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: I will never let anybody take that away from us
- 5:35Speaker 1: with their stupid protesting. I'm sorry, I gotta say that
- 5:38Speaker 1: out of the year to fifty year.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well, I totally agree with you, Alex. I agree with
- 5:43Speaker 2: everything you just said. I do.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And so yeah, no, there are just so many moments,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and you know, I know they didn't win, but Bryce
- 5:52Speaker 1: Harper's homer, Schwarbert team USA baseball back to relevance. People
- 5:57Speaker 1: forget the baseball team used to be an Olympic team.
- 6:00Speaker 1: In fact, I think they won gold back in the nineties.
- 6:02Speaker 2: And Tomula sort of managed after he retired from the Dodgers.
- 6:06Speaker 2: He managed the US to Golden to gold in one
- 6:09Speaker 2: of those Olympics.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And Jim Abbott was on one of those teams with
- 6:12Speaker 1: Tino Martinez. A little a little hot take there, a
- 6:16Speaker 1: little inside baseball there, all right, But let's get back
- 6:19Speaker 1: to what's happening this weekend. Obviously, the Yanks play the Twins.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I know the Mets you feel like, are dragging it out.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But if the Yanks don't beat the Twins this weekend,
- 6:30Speaker 1: we have a bigger problem than we already thought. Having
- 6:32Speaker 1: a seven game losing streak. I mean, lou they can't
- 6:36Speaker 1: get to the Mets twelve? Can they?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Sure worse they could. Maybe I can have a bad
- 6:44Speaker 2: two weeks doesn't mean that this season's over.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Well, it's true the Cubs have had two game to
- 6:49Speaker 1: what ten game losing season are still over five hundred.
- 6:52Speaker 2: They've had They've had. The Cubs have had ten game
- 6:55Speaker 2: winning streaks and a ten game losing streak, and uh know,
- 7:00Speaker 2: they're in second place in the Central Division, behind behind
- 7:03Speaker 2: the Brewers. I think they're roster and I know they've
- 7:05Speaker 2: had some pitching injuries, but everybody's had pitching injuries. That's
- 7:09Speaker 2: a whole nother story. We could probably do a whole,
- 7:12Speaker 2: a whole podcast on why these pitchers, all these pitchers
- 7:16Speaker 2: on all these teams are getting hurt. But the Cubs
- 7:23Speaker 2: have a good team on paper, you know, and they
- 7:26Speaker 2: have you know, they supposedly have a genius manager who's
- 7:30Speaker 2: never won anything, so uh, you know, he didn't win
- 7:34Speaker 2: anything really with mill with Milwaukee when they got to
- 7:36Speaker 2: the playoffs, and they haven't done anything with Chicago so far.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So there's gonna be pressure on Council, for sure. They
- 7:42Speaker 2: fired Ross. David Rosso had done a nice job with
- 7:46Speaker 2: the with the Cubs to sign Council, making the highest
- 7:51Speaker 2: paid manager in baseball, there's pressure on there's pressure on
- 7:54Speaker 2: the Cubs. There's pressure on Council. But yes, but getting
- 7:59Speaker 2: back to my point, But getting back to your point,
- 8:02Speaker 2: the Yankees are still in good shape just because they're
- 8:04Speaker 2: even if they lose three more games, they won't. They
- 8:06Speaker 2: are playing their longtime pigeons, the Minnesota Twins, who they
- 8:11Speaker 2: usually destroy. But you're right, if they don't win two
- 8:15Speaker 2: out of three this weekend, I'm sure the pressure is
- 8:19Speaker 2: going to be building because if you look at the
- 8:20Speaker 2: schedule coming up for the Yankees. They're gonna be playing
- 8:23Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of tough teams, the Dodgers, the.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Braves, and then they're gonna be faced with looking at
- 8:31Speaker 1: what the Mets just did about a week ago, right A.
- 8:33Speaker 1: We could go today and they're gonna be looking at
- 8:35Speaker 1: what the Red Sox did, what the Phillies did. And
- 8:38Speaker 1: you know, people on the Yankee sects say, why not
- 8:40Speaker 1: the Yankees? So I don't know.
- 8:41Speaker 2: It's it's all the managerial changes. I'm sorry, I mean
- 8:45Speaker 2: to cut you off, Alex. The managerial changes for the
- 8:48Speaker 2: Red Sox and for the Mets have done nothing. Obviously,
- 8:52Speaker 2: they has worked for the Pills and they're closing in
- 8:57Speaker 2: on the Braves. Who got off to that? But the
- 9:02Speaker 2: Braves are falling apart.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Now do you think the Phillies are not on this
- 9:07Speaker 1: weekend because they are hosting the All Star Game. I
- 9:10Speaker 1: feel like there's some kind of weird trade off there
- 9:12Speaker 1: where all right won't be.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Home on the fourth, but they're not.
- 9:17Speaker 1: No, but they get the All Star Game, and obviously
- 9:19Speaker 1: I'll be there as part of the whole thing. It's
- 9:21Speaker 1: gonna be fun to be down in Philly for those
- 9:24Speaker 1: couple of days and in that weekend, so I can't
- 9:26Speaker 1: wait for that. But I'm like, you would think you
- 9:28Speaker 1: would think they'd be home on the fourth of July.
- 9:31Speaker 2: But no, Well again, that's that's a good point. You
- 9:34Speaker 2: think they would be home on the fourth or but again,
- 9:37Speaker 2: is there is there a World Cup game?
- 9:40Speaker 1: Well, that's it too, there's a World Cup game, and
- 9:42Speaker 1: I think that's part of it because you don't want
- 9:44Speaker 1: to clog it up across the street. So yeah, and
- 9:48Speaker 1: also I want to go there because team USA. Look
- 9:52Speaker 1: when they won the other night, it was exciting. Bologan
- 9:55Speaker 1: gets a red card. I want your thoughts on that
- 9:57Speaker 1: because when you first called me, you thought it was
- 9:59Speaker 1: an interesting play. But maybe I don't know if you
- 10:01Speaker 1: thought it was warranted or not.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But now I do not think it was warranted.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Now he suspended versus Belgium and but the But as
- 10:08Speaker 1: I predicted a while ago, when they got rid of Klingsdorf,
- 10:12Speaker 1: this team was going to go to a new level,
- 10:14Speaker 1: and I didn't realize how new a level it is.
- 10:17Speaker 1: For the first time since two thousand and two, now,
- 10:19Speaker 1: lou we've had NFCFC and we've had the Red Bulls
- 10:24Speaker 1: and that's not enough to draw in soccer as much
- 10:27Speaker 1: as I'd like to think. And none of my CFC
- 10:30Speaker 1: won a championship with MLS, by the way, in the
- 10:32Speaker 1: winter of twenty one. But maybe this time is going
- 10:36Speaker 1: to be strengthening the sports soccer world here.
- 10:38Speaker 2: What do you think. I don't think it can hurt it,
- 10:42Speaker 2: but well, maybe with the fact that MLS will be
- 10:47Speaker 2: moving there schedule to the European schedule timeline from you know,
- 10:54Speaker 2: from summer through spring instead of you know, from March
- 11:01Speaker 2: to October, they're going to be on the schedule that
- 11:05Speaker 2: the Premier League is on in England, La Liga, in Spain,
- 11:11Speaker 2: Syria and Italy. All those European leagues usually start middle
- 11:15Speaker 2: of August through through the beginning middle of May. They're
- 11:19Speaker 2: going to be on that schedule. Maybe that will help
- 11:22Speaker 2: because especially if soccer fans watch, you know, let's face it,
- 11:29Speaker 2: the Premier League is I think more popular than MLS.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I know it's a better product than MLS, there's no question.
- 11:37Speaker 2: So maybe that consistency of schedule will will will help
- 11:43Speaker 2: help the interest.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Hey, I already know that Matt Freeze has been in
- 11:51Speaker 1: net for.
- 11:52Speaker 2: This team yeah, and he's done very well.
- 11:54Speaker 1: He actually plays for end Y CFC. So there's a
- 11:57Speaker 1: little known fact that I didn't know until ny CFC
- 12:00Speaker 1: to me about that. So maybe I'll get to that
- 12:02Speaker 1: game when they come. When it comes back, who knows,
- 12:04Speaker 1: maybe I'll come back and champion. But this field is
- 12:07Speaker 1: so challenging. I mean Egypt. Do we think Egypt was
- 12:11Speaker 1: in New Events around of sixteen? You know, these different
- 12:13Speaker 1: teams are advancing that we normally Paraguay out of nowhere.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Mexico's kind of in there in the scrumble a little bit,
- 12:20Speaker 1: but I mean there are teams we haven't seen in
- 12:23Speaker 1: a while. And yes, your country not being in there
- 12:26Speaker 1: does change things, as Italy shakes it up every time
- 12:29Speaker 1: they're in the World Cup.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Well, my country is the United States of America. My
- 12:33Speaker 2: heritage is Italy, but my country is the United States
- 12:37Speaker 2: of America. But before we get away from excuse me
- 12:44Speaker 2: the Balligan red card. I mean, when you looked at
- 12:48Speaker 2: it live, he was behind the Bosnian defender. He wasn't
- 12:56Speaker 2: doing anything malicious. He stepped on his ankle. Yes, you
- 13:00Speaker 2: have to be aware, just like a hockey when somebody
- 13:03Speaker 2: high sticks another player. A hockey player. I sticks another player.
- 13:07Speaker 2: You gotta be responsible for your stick, whether it was
- 13:11Speaker 2: accidental or not. A Balikan should have gotten a yellow card.
- 13:16Speaker 2: He should not have gotten a red card. He should
- 13:18Speaker 2: not have That was terrible, and the United States showed
- 13:21Speaker 2: a lot of guts, holding on for thirty six minutes
- 13:25Speaker 2: with a one goal lead, scoring a goal ten against
- 13:28Speaker 2: eleven to take a two goal lead, and you know
- 13:34Speaker 2: it's I still think they can win. On Monday night,
- 13:39Speaker 2: they had the crowd with them in Seattle. Yes, there'll
- 13:43Speaker 2: be a good amount of Belgium fans there and Belgium
- 13:49Speaker 2: once had there were guys on this team. Kevin de
- 13:52Speaker 2: Bruyn are one of my all time favorites. Watching the
- 13:56Speaker 2: Premier League like I do on a regular basis. Played
- 13:59Speaker 2: for manche the City for all those years and won
- 14:03Speaker 2: multiple champions before he left. But he's thirty eight thirty
- 14:06Speaker 2: nine years old. He's not the bruiner that he used
- 14:11Speaker 2: to be, but for one game he'd be tough. He's
- 14:13Speaker 2: a great midfielder. He reminds me a little bit of
- 14:16Speaker 2: Jason Kidd and his prime. He makes everybody else around
- 14:19Speaker 2: him better. They have a fine team. The United States
- 14:23Speaker 2: is favored slightly. They should be favored slightly. I think
- 14:27Speaker 2: the first twenty minutes up until the hydration break. And yes,
- 14:32Speaker 2: the hydration break, which a lot of soccer fans, football
- 14:35Speaker 2: fans do not like, it has an effect on the game.
- 14:40Speaker 2: We've seen teams that have been outplayed by a good
- 14:44Speaker 2: margin before the hydration break come back after they talk
- 14:49Speaker 2: to their coach and play much better. You know, I expect.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I don't know if it's gonna be Ricardo Peppi or
- 14:57Speaker 2: Hajji Wright, you know, Hajji Wright in the Championship in
- 15:01Speaker 2: England for Coventry City. They've will be in the Premier
- 15:06Speaker 2: League this year they were promoted, you know. Or Will
- 15:12Speaker 2: Polisic will you know he's more of a facilitator. Will
- 15:16Speaker 2: he be more aggressive offensively, taking more shots, getting the position,
- 15:21Speaker 2: trying to score goals. I think the United States has
- 15:24Speaker 2: a great chance on on Monday Night.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Now, you're our historic guy. When was the last time
- 15:29Speaker 1: they had been surround of sixteen?
- 15:33Speaker 2: The last time was in uh I guess it was
- 15:36Speaker 2: ninety four, right or no, no, no, no, no, it
- 15:39Speaker 2: was two thousand and two. It was two thousand and two,
- 15:43Speaker 2: and that's when that's when they actually got to the
- 15:46Speaker 2: quarterfinals and they lost there. Now, this is a much
- 15:50Speaker 2: better team than the two thousand and two team. This
- 15:53Speaker 2: team has some depth. This team is well coached by Potacino,
- 15:59Speaker 2: and he's done terrific job. Uh. United States has.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Ken Griffin, who of course has had this timp of
- 16:08Speaker 1: the moment Donnie. But apparently Griffin has been involved with
- 16:11Speaker 1: financing his contract or something. I don't if you know
- 16:13Speaker 1: that or not, but.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I did not. I did not, and I don't know
- 16:17Speaker 2: if he's accepted, but I know he's been offered a
- 16:20Speaker 2: four a four year extension on his deal to coach
- 16:25Speaker 2: national team. The one thing that you saw in the
- 16:27Speaker 2: Bosnia game, the United States is fast. They're fast team,
- 16:32Speaker 2: and Bosnia was, you know, was like like Belgium a
- 16:36Speaker 2: little you know, a little bit of an older team,
- 16:39Speaker 2: an older team in the tournament. And there were times
- 16:42Speaker 2: where the US just sped by them. So I think
- 16:47Speaker 2: that that might play a factor. I hope the US
- 16:50Speaker 2: scores first, really do. I don't want them chasing the game.
- 16:54Speaker 2: But it's been and again, I am no soccer expert,
- 16:57Speaker 2: so I'm not gonna say I know soccer like I
- 17:00Speaker 2: know hockey. Or football, or basketball or baseball. But uh,
- 17:05Speaker 2: this is the best I think it's so far going
- 17:07Speaker 2: into the last two weeks.
- 17:09Speaker 3: This is the best World Cup I could remember. Now,
- 17:12Speaker 3: I know that you were part of all you played tremendous.
- 17:15Speaker 3: You know that whole Mids sports authority stuff going on.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Did you ever get tickets to Red Bulls or any
- 17:20Speaker 3: of those soccers in in the Giant stadium world?
- 17:24Speaker 2: I was a huge Cosmo fan and I saw I
- 17:31Speaker 2: don't know, fifty Cosmo games uh in the meadowlands at
- 17:35Speaker 2: the old Giants Stadium.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Nets era, which was pretty cool.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and the Cosmos were king and it was a
- 17:45Speaker 2: happening and what that won. But again, what happened to
- 17:51Speaker 2: the North American Soccer League and the Cosmos? They got
- 17:54Speaker 2: too big, too fast. They expanded everywhere. Now this was
- 17:58Speaker 2: still you're going back for years. They were going into
- 18:01Speaker 2: soccer areas that really didn't know the game. They had
- 18:05Speaker 2: owners that were underfunded. But that's and the MLS model
- 18:13Speaker 2: is it has been a successful model, and that's why they're
- 18:16Speaker 2: still around, you know, thirty years, thirty years after they started,
- 18:21Speaker 2: and the MLS will be around for a long long time.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I've only been Like I said, I've only been to
- 18:28Speaker 2: two Red Bull games in my life and the stadium
- 18:31Speaker 2: is gorgeous. Sports Illustrated stadium in Harrison. That stadium should
- 18:36Speaker 2: have been in the Meadowlands. I think it would have.
- 18:38Speaker 2: You know, it would have been better. But that's just
- 18:40Speaker 2: my take. One last thing is before we get out
- 18:42Speaker 2: of talking about World Cup. Fox has done a fantastic
- 18:45Speaker 2: job with their coverage from the pregame show right through
- 18:49Speaker 2: the end. And Rob Stone, who's the main Fox studio host,
- 18:56Speaker 2: to me, is the most underrated studio host on sports TV.
- 19:00Speaker 2: He's been that way for a long time. Whether he's
- 19:03Speaker 2: the studio host for college basketball, for soccer, wherever they
- 19:08Speaker 2: put him, he's right up there with the best. But
- 19:10Speaker 2: he really is underrated. Rebecca Lowe who Fox borrowed from NBC.
- 19:17Speaker 2: She's the main host on the Premier League games. She's spectacular.
- 19:23Speaker 2: She also hosted the Olympics and did a great job.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So I just want to throw it at in theres
- 19:30Speaker 2: as my as Terminello's take on on TV on a
- 19:34Speaker 2: couple of the TV things all by the way, Rebecca
- 19:38Speaker 2: Lobo obviously.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Women's soccer team as well women's national team. I mean
- 19:42Speaker 1: what a name right there. She was a great player.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Now well I'm talking about Rebecca lo the British player. Well, yes, okay,
- 19:50Speaker 2: Rebrecca Lo. Now you talk about w NBA. Well, I'm
- 19:53Speaker 2: glad you mentioned Rebecca Lobo because I am so down
- 19:56Speaker 2: on the WNBA. I am boycotting the w NBA. I
- 20:01Speaker 2: really am there a disgrace. Well, they've done the Caitlyn Clark.
- 20:06Speaker 2: What they've done the Caitlin Clark this since she's coming
- 20:10Speaker 2: to the league, it's been disgraceful. They should be ashamed
- 20:16Speaker 2: of themselves, from the commissioner to her own coach right
- 20:21Speaker 2: on down. The prejudice against Caitlyn Clark is disgusting. That's
- 20:26Speaker 2: all I'm gonna say. I will not watch the w NBA.
- 20:29Speaker 2: And I am very much women and young girls playing sports,
- 20:35Speaker 2: but this WNBA situation is embarrassing.
- 20:38Speaker 1: And it wasn't the first Sophie Cunningham. Who knows how
- 20:42Speaker 1: roughed up Caitlyn would be. I gotta be honest about
- 20:44Speaker 1: that one. Now, now let me ask you this. I mean,
- 20:47Speaker 1: by the way side, note, Liberty did win, they did
- 20:50Speaker 1: win the Cup the other night.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Who cares. I don't care. I don't care. I don't
- 20:55Speaker 2: care what they win. I don't care about the liberty.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I don't care about the w NBA. They got to
- 20:59Speaker 2: win me back. I don't give a crap.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this the other news this
- 21:07Speaker 1: week which kind of went where we entered the radar.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I mean, obviously Lebron James leaving free agency, but that's
- 21:13Speaker 1: not the big news. I'm talking about. He's back, baby,
- 21:17Speaker 1: ob another year. Right, That's what I read this week,
- 21:19Speaker 1: And I want to get your take off.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, he signed for another year. And you know, here's
- 21:26Speaker 2: a guy at the age of forty forty one whatever
- 21:29Speaker 2: he was. He played all lighty two games last year,
- 21:36Speaker 2: Alex all eighty two games. Yes, I don't think he
- 21:39Speaker 2: hits as much as he used to. And obviously he
- 21:43Speaker 2: was never a great defensive forward, and he's even less
- 21:46Speaker 2: of a defensive forward now. But he's still playing all
- 21:48Speaker 2: lady two games and thirty two goals and thirty two assists.
- 21:54Speaker 2: And I'm glad he's coming back for one final year.
- 21:57Speaker 2: If this is his final year, and it's better for
- 22:01Speaker 2: the for the NHL, I think it's a I think
- 22:05Speaker 2: it's a positive.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's great. It's good. I'm glad he's
- 22:12Speaker 1: not retiring, and you'll also be a Fanatics Fest. And
- 22:15Speaker 1: by the way, Fanatics Fest fifteen percent off. Right now,
- 22:19Speaker 1: they're doing a run it back thing, So I'll give
- 22:20Speaker 1: you that link right now, but if you use the code,
- 22:24Speaker 1: let me get that right for us, mister Terminello. As
- 22:29Speaker 1: we're on the fly here in the hockey, you know
- 22:34Speaker 1: Fanax Fast has a good deal out right now because
- 22:37Speaker 1: you know they're still trying to get people out, especially
- 22:39Speaker 1: with the Knicks here and you know just everything going on.
- 22:43Speaker 1: It is a fifteen percent deal on it. Just use
- 22:46Speaker 1: my link and you'll find out more about it. I
- 22:49Speaker 1: love it, I love they're doing. Hey, it makes.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Now I gotta I gotta ask you a question. How come
- 22:57Speaker 2: you to get an invitation show to Michael Ruben White Party.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I know, right, I've been talking about them all this time,
- 23:04Speaker 1: but you know what, it's all good. I don't mind.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I'll see him probably in July, and I'm of course
- 23:10Speaker 1: competing in the Fanatics Game, so we'll do that. But
- 23:13Speaker 1: I'll drop the link to that because yes, Obie will
- 23:15Speaker 1: be a Fanatics best And I've been waiting for this
- 23:17Speaker 1: as long as i've been waiting for Judge to be
- 23:19Speaker 1: a fanatics vest. Now how is it, by the way,
- 23:23Speaker 1: how is it back to baseball real quick? That Judge
- 23:25Speaker 1: is leading the voting he's not even playing. Isn't that funny?
- 23:29Speaker 2: I think this is Yeah, Alex, you're you're you're right,
- 23:32Speaker 2: And we've seen that so many times through the history
- 23:35Speaker 2: of fan voting in Major League Gay small Again, that's fine.
- 23:41Speaker 2: He's the best player in the American League. We h
- 23:44Speaker 2: it's not in all of baseball. But again, he's been
- 23:47Speaker 2: injured for a lengthy period of time, which is a
- 23:52Speaker 2: shame because not to see him perform hurts the game.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I mean it does besides turning the Yankees. Obviously, it
- 24:02Speaker 2: hurts the Yankees just like any major injury would hurt
- 24:05Speaker 2: a team. But he's the no, he's the best player
- 24:06Speaker 2: in the American League. And now with him out there
- 24:10Speaker 2: not in the lineup, you see how much the Yankees
- 24:13Speaker 2: missed him and how valuable he is to the New
- 24:15Speaker 2: York Yankees. Now, that doesn't take away the fact that
- 24:20Speaker 2: their fielding has been lousy and they still should be
- 24:24Speaker 2: getting more than two or three hits a game, and
- 24:26Speaker 2: they the other day they came within three outs of
- 24:29Speaker 2: setting a record for uh for three or few or
- 24:35Speaker 2: hitching seven straight games. I mean, that was unbelievable. The
- 24:40Speaker 2: Yankees are you know, the Yankees are going to be
- 24:42Speaker 2: okay because they because let's face it, I've said a
- 24:46Speaker 2: thousand times, the American League, or as Jason Bennetti said
- 24:50Speaker 2: on the game last Sunday night, the Red Sox Yankee game,
- 24:56Speaker 2: you know, the American League is diluded. He was being nice.
- 25:00Speaker 2: The American League sticks and the Yankees, I still think
- 25:03Speaker 2: are the best team in the American League. But they're
- 25:06Speaker 2: the best team of a mediocre bunch of teams. And
- 25:10Speaker 2: I'm being kind. I think they'll be okay. You know,
- 25:15Speaker 2: the Braves have lost Watt fifteen out of twenty, fifteen
- 25:19Speaker 2: out of nineteen. They're gonna be okay. It happens. It's
- 25:24Speaker 2: a long season. Guys get hurt. I think the Yankees
- 25:28Speaker 2: will make a trade to show up the bullpen. I
- 25:31Speaker 2: am not a you know, a big Bednar fan. He's good,
- 25:34Speaker 2: he's not great.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But they missed him. I mean, they've definitely missed him.
- 25:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I know what you're to talk about right now because
- 25:42Speaker 1: we haven't gotten to it yet. But and then the
- 25:45Speaker 1: banera did happen this week, as you Ryan and I
- 25:48Speaker 1: kind of all saw coming. Anders Lee has moved on, Yes,
- 25:53Speaker 1: to Utah, but he's moved on. And that was kind
- 25:56Speaker 1: of what everybody was thinking, wasn't.
- 25:57Speaker 2: It, Alex? It was and uh he's been announced that
- 26:02Speaker 2: he was an outstanding New York Islander. He was their captain.
- 26:05Speaker 2: And I am surprised that he got three years at
- 26:07Speaker 2: five point four million a year from the the Utah Mammoth.
- 26:15Speaker 2: He that where he'll be reunited, not reunited because they
- 26:18Speaker 2: want teammates, uh, but uh he will be with another
- 26:22Speaker 2: former New York player, Vincent Trochik, who got traded to
- 26:26Speaker 2: Utah and the Utah Utah. You'll probably they will help Utahs,
- 26:32Speaker 2: their veterans on a young team that made the playoffs
- 26:35Speaker 2: last year. I think, uh, you know that that will
- 26:38Speaker 2: that will help them, but they uh, you know, it happens.
- 26:47Speaker 2: What happens, Alex is he's thirty five years old. The
- 26:51Speaker 2: Islanders are strapped with some contracts that they are stuck
- 26:54Speaker 2: with as Matthew darsh is doing his best to try
- 26:58Speaker 2: to get this team back to a consistent playoff team
- 27:03Speaker 2: and also higher than just making the playoffs, contending, going
- 27:07Speaker 2: deep into the playoffs, and ultimately winning the Cup. I mean,
- 27:11Speaker 2: you have, you know, you have. We've talked to about
- 27:13Speaker 2: a million times. They have the goalie, they have a
- 27:16Speaker 2: great young defenseman who's going to get better. And I
- 27:19Speaker 2: see that Pete de Boor is going to said that
- 27:23Speaker 2: Matthew Schafer a left hand shooting defenceman, and we talked
- 27:26Speaker 2: about the dearth of right hand shooting defenceman. They might
- 27:33Speaker 2: play Schaeffer on the right side, even though he shoots lefty.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And he did play the last three games when Ryan
- 27:39Speaker 2: Pullock was out last at the end of last year,
- 27:42Speaker 2: and they put him on the right side. So, I mean,
- 27:45Speaker 2: the Islanders didn't do anything great in free agency. They
- 27:48Speaker 2: did some depth stuff. I was hoping that they would
- 27:51Speaker 2: do something big, but they didn't. The Rangers did. The Rangers,
- 27:55Speaker 2: you know, I know you complained about your boy drewry Man,
- 27:58Speaker 2: but you got to you gotta give it to him.
- 28:00Speaker 2: He was able to get. You know, Pavel d'Or vio,
- 28:05Speaker 2: a guy who scored thirty seven goals last year thirty
- 28:08Speaker 2: five the year before. He was second in the NHL,
- 28:12Speaker 2: and Powell play goals with twenty two. He's a dynamic
- 28:15Speaker 2: left wing. He's only twenty five years old. And I
- 28:18Speaker 2: when I heard the trade, I thought they would have
- 28:21Speaker 2: to give up their number five pick. They didn't. They
- 28:24Speaker 2: gave him the number twenty six and they gave him
- 28:26Speaker 2: a number ninety two. When something in twenty twenty eight
- 28:29Speaker 2: that was that was a trended a tremendous.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Big deal, and it's gonna be one that. You know,
- 28:34Speaker 1: the Rangers finally make moves and I don't know what
- 28:39Speaker 1: they happened, what happened in free agency, but you know
- 28:41Speaker 1: it just they finally made a move the last couple
- 28:44Speaker 1: of weeks. And that's what Rangers fans have been asking about.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And of course James only giving up his the role
- 28:52Speaker 1: to his son. What do you think about that?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, don't. I don't know what to think about it.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you. I have an Alex
- 28:58Speaker 2: I didn't even know he had six sons until until today. Uh.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I know nothing about this kid, Quinton. He's thirty two
- 29:10Speaker 2: years old. I'm sure he's a smart guy, but you know,
- 29:15Speaker 2: you gotta be careful. You know, we'll have to wait
- 29:18Speaker 2: and see. It's too early to tell that's what what's
- 29:21Speaker 2: gonna happen. But uh, he's only going to be involved
- 29:25Speaker 2: with the uh the ranger point part of the NSG teams.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Uh so, so, uh, that'll be interesting to give us
- 29:38Speaker 2: something that you'll have somebody else to blame, Alex. You
- 29:41Speaker 2: can't blame James Dolan anymore.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Oh, and that's the one Trocheck going to Utah. That
- 29:44Speaker 1: was a big deal as well. I mean, that's just
- 29:49Speaker 1: we will miss him. He was youth. He was a
- 29:52Speaker 1: huge part of the team. But as we predicted that too,
- 29:54Speaker 1: he wasn't gonna stick around for long. And I kind
- 29:56Speaker 1: of thought that that would happen eventually. It was only
- 29:59Speaker 1: a matter of time before Trochick got traded.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Well, a couple of other things locally positive things and
- 30:08Speaker 2: new Gerald managers a Sonny Meta of the Devils did
- 30:12Speaker 2: the right thing, sign the Nico Heisher for five years
- 30:16Speaker 2: at eleven point set of a million on the on
- 30:20Speaker 2: the annual salary. That that's great. The guy is still
- 30:24Speaker 2: in his prime. He I don't know how he did this,
- 30:28Speaker 2: but he was able to trade Jacob Marks from to
- 30:32Speaker 2: Florida before his extension kicked in and Lard's picking up
- 30:38Speaker 2: all the money. I don't know if they got what
- 30:41Speaker 2: they're gonna do in goal. I don't think thirty six
- 30:43Speaker 2: year old Jake allm who's an exceptional backup goaltender, I
- 30:47Speaker 2: don't know. I know, he can't play sixty games anymore.
- 30:50Speaker 2: They do have Nico Dores. I don't know what they're
- 30:52Speaker 2: going to do if they got if they're going to
- 30:54Speaker 2: go after Hellibuck, that I don't know. I mean, Hellibuck
- 30:58Speaker 2: still has at least three years left on his Winnipeg
- 31:01Speaker 2: Jets steel, but he has indicated that he wants to
- 31:06Speaker 2: probably if the right opportunity comes up, leave. So I mean,
- 31:11Speaker 2: I think the Devils are interesting to look at the
- 31:14Speaker 2: rest of the summer as we go into training camp.
- 31:18Speaker 2: So I think, you know, I think, Oh, and the
- 31:21Speaker 2: other thing, getting back to your Rangers, their number five
- 31:25Speaker 2: pick Smith's I mean, I think he's a plug and
- 31:28Speaker 2: play guy. He might start the season with the Rangers
- 31:31Speaker 2: next year. So you know, there's a there's a lot
- 31:33Speaker 2: of interesting stuff to look at and so so we'll see,
- 31:39Speaker 2: you know, a couple of things before we go. I
- 31:42Speaker 2: know the NBA has been a little whacky. I mean
- 31:46Speaker 2: this Philly in Boston trade, I did not see coming.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I know that I'm not not surprised that Brown got traded.
- 31:55Speaker 2: It seemed like the Celtics were anxious to get rid
- 31:58Speaker 2: of them, which is surprising. And now we are hearing
- 32:02Speaker 2: all the warts about how where he's not this great defensively,
- 32:05Speaker 2: analytically and all that crap. I don't get it. But
- 32:09Speaker 2: I can tell you one thing he's been than he's
- 32:11Speaker 2: been in Paul George at this stage of the game.
- 32:14Speaker 2: And I think the Celtics have hurt themselves. I think
- 32:19Speaker 2: they've done I think they've gone backwards, and you know,
- 32:23Speaker 2: the Knicks are at this stage, I would still say
- 32:26Speaker 2: the Knicks are still the team to beat in the East.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Coming off their championship. They signed Andre Drummond for three
- 32:34Speaker 2: point nine million dollars. Who who will be the replacement
- 32:40Speaker 2: for Mitchell Robinson at about twelve million dollars less. And
- 32:45Speaker 2: he's not a good free throw shooting either, but compared
- 32:48Speaker 2: to Mitchell Robinson, he shoots him like Larry Bird and
- 32:52Speaker 2: he's a great rebounder like Robinson. I don't know what
- 32:56Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know what's what's gonna happen
- 32:59Speaker 2: with lebron Is Lebron going to go to the Celtics.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Is Lebron going to go to the Sixers? A couple
- 33:04Speaker 2: of days ago to Sixers that they had no interest
- 33:05Speaker 2: in Lebron. Now we hear that that's changed. So so, uh,
- 33:15Speaker 2: you know, we'll see now, I mean, but we'll see
- 33:17Speaker 2: what happens there. There's a lot still to be hashed
- 33:19Speaker 2: out this summer with the with the teams that that
- 33:25Speaker 2: we uh watch here in the metropolitan area.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And then one note got them FC winning the NWSL.
- 33:33Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. So you know, there have been some wins.
- 33:36Speaker 1: But I want to get back to this point that
- 33:39Speaker 1: this Knicks run and I know you're saying it's over already,
- 33:41Speaker 1: but this Knicks run should inspire every team in New
- 33:44Speaker 1: York to better themselves. I mean it just I truly
- 33:49Speaker 1: believe when I say this here on the podcast, it
- 33:51Speaker 1: opens up the spigots for other teams to snap their
- 33:55Speaker 1: droughts because there's an inspiration to it too.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Alex, do you really think that Jim Hobble is going
- 34:00Speaker 2: to uh this, the Knicks win the championship? Has anything
- 34:05Speaker 2: new with the New York Giants season?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Not him, But I think Jackson's inspired to be different.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I've read that with Steve Survey.
- 34:12Speaker 2: So we'll see, well, I will see when he's having
- 34:17Speaker 2: his ass chased by the Dallas Cowboys front line, and
- 34:20Speaker 2: then the next week in Los Angeles, he's not thinking
- 34:22Speaker 2: about about the Knick's parade.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Well, you might be right about that, all right, Louis,
- 34:31Speaker 1: Well it's been fun. I know you, I know you
- 34:35Speaker 1: told us some July fourth stories, obviously knowing George Seberner,
- 34:41Speaker 1: And I mean, the funny thing about the Yanks on
- 34:43Speaker 1: the fourth is they parently get their butts kicked on
- 34:46Speaker 1: the fourth. It's very weird to me.
- 34:47Speaker 2: But they don't always. I don't even remember that being
- 34:51Speaker 2: a consistent thing. I do remember nineteen ninety four the
- 34:54Speaker 2: United States ward was eliminated, the last time the World
- 34:57Speaker 2: Cup was in the United the only other time it
- 35:00Speaker 2: was in the United States. They were eliminated on fourth
- 35:08Speaker 2: of July by Brazil. That I do remember.
- 35:15Speaker 1: There you go, But and I know the Brazilian contingenteer
- 35:18Speaker 1: is crazy year as well. There's every country is well
- 35:21Speaker 1: represented in this, in this in this city. I'll tell
- 35:23Speaker 1: you that much. Just go to Times Square.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Any given the absolutely it's been, it's been an overwhelming
- 35:29Speaker 2: success from a fans point of view, it really has been.
- 35:34Speaker 2: And I actually had an opportunity to go to the
- 35:38Speaker 2: France Sweden game on Tuesday, but unfortunately I was ill
- 35:43Speaker 2: and I had to I had to back off and
- 35:48Speaker 2: and couldn't go. I made the right.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Decision, absolutely all right, one last thing, be free, crank
- 35:56Speaker 1: your AC up is hot as you as much as
- 35:58Speaker 1: you needed this weekend, Louis. Don't let the seventy eight
- 36:00Speaker 1: degrees to make it seventy. I don't care.
- 36:03Speaker 2: You know, we're in America, Alex. I have my I
- 36:05Speaker 2: have my my AC on seventy two. Right now.
- 36:09Speaker 1: There you go, you little rebel, you louse, Terminello.
- 36:12Speaker 2: That's it.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Have a great fourth of July, and.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Thank you, Alex. You're the best. Thank you so much.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Keep up the great work, kid, keep it.
- 36:21Speaker 1: And that was how we kick off July at one
- 36:23Speaker 1: Leg of Alex Media with Terminello's take
