- 0:09Speaker 1: Yes and Lo and Lo. Welcome to the Naughty even
- 0:13Speaker 1: Nice Shamia host Rob Shooter, and it's Tuesday. Our dear
- 0:17Speaker 1: friend Delana's off today. She's actually in la I think
- 0:20Speaker 1: she's interviewing Cynthia Rivo from the Wicked movie. I know
- 0:26Speaker 1: they held their private screening for Deleana last week, so
- 0:30Speaker 1: she saw the movie. She hasn't told me yet if
- 0:32Speaker 1: it's fabulous. I know it is, but she's such a
- 0:34Speaker 1: professional she won't say a word until she is allowed to.
- 0:37Speaker 1: But Delana got to see Wicked last week and now
- 0:41Speaker 1: she's out in California interviewing Cynthia. I think this is
- 0:44Speaker 1: for Ebony magazine, so fingers crossed. I'll let you know
- 0:48Speaker 1: when the story is posted. Okay, let's jump into our show.
- 0:51Speaker 1: What time is it, my friends? It is tea time.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Big story at the top of the show. Phil Donahue,
- 0:57Speaker 1: the iconic talk show host, has died at eighty eight.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Phil pioneered talk shows. He really did. He revolutionized the
- 1:08Speaker 1: TV business. His family confirmed that he died on Sunday night,
- 1:14Speaker 1: surrounded by loved ones, following a long illness. Now he
- 1:19Speaker 1: knew Phil had been ill for quite some time. We
- 1:22Speaker 1: hadn't seen him in a while, and he enjoyed the spotlight.
- 1:26Speaker 1: He enjoyed the attention. He used to say that all
- 1:28Speaker 1: the time, and so the fact that he disappeared, we
- 1:32Speaker 1: all heard rumors that he wasn't doing so well. Phil
- 1:36Speaker 1: was a man of many, many talents, but best known
- 1:39Speaker 1: for the Phil donn a huge show that brought provocative
- 1:43Speaker 1: issues and audience participation into American that live in your rooms.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Just think about that for a second. Audience participation was
- 1:53Speaker 1: so used to seeing Oprah walk around the audience with
- 1:56Speaker 1: a microphone Ricky Lake did. It was so used to
- 1:59Speaker 1: that happening. That was Phil Donahue. He who was the
- 2:02Speaker 1: first to do that, and also to provocative issues. He
- 2:07Speaker 1: was fearless. He talked about subjects that Americans just did
- 2:12Speaker 1: not talk about, particularly on daytime TV. In fact, before Phil,
- 2:17Speaker 1: daytime TV was soap operas. It was game shows, it
- 2:21Speaker 1: was cooking shows. It was not these real, real, impactful,
- 2:27Speaker 1: important subjects that often we stayed away from. We thought
- 2:31Speaker 1: nobody would want to watch this, We thought it was
- 2:33Speaker 1: just too much. His shows started in Dayton, Ohio, and
- 2:37Speaker 1: he did tattle subjects like the abuse in the Catholic Church,
- 2:41Speaker 1: the klu Klux Klan, Feminism, day rights before they ever
- 2:46Speaker 1: became mainstream. Once his show was a huge hitic moved
- 2:50Speaker 1: to Chicago for a little bit, and then it moved
- 2:53Speaker 1: to New York City. It was broadcast from the iconic
- 2:56Speaker 1: thirty Rockefeller Plaza. In an inter with Nelson Mendella following
- 3:03Speaker 1: Mendela's release from prison in nineteen ninety, he was remembered
- 3:07Speaker 1: as being just fantastic at doing this. It was easy
- 3:11Speaker 1: to put him into a box and say he could
- 3:13Speaker 1: only do one thing, but no. He also too took
- 3:15Speaker 1: his show to the Soviet Union, cementing his reputation as
- 3:21Speaker 1: a television legend. Now. His show ended in nineteen ninety six,
- 3:25Speaker 1: after a remarkable twenty six years. Twenty six and he
- 3:29Speaker 1: earned twenty ms. That's really important. It's really telling here
- 3:33Speaker 1: because a lot of TV shows are a lot of fun,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but they don't win Emmy Awards. They don't win awards.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Phil was both a lot of fun a lot of
- 3:42Speaker 1: people watched, and it was also quality quality that won
- 3:46Speaker 1: twenty Emmy Awards. He survived by his wife forty four years,
- 3:51Speaker 1: Marlo Thomas, who was by his side recently in twenty
- 3:56Speaker 1: twenty four when we saw him for the last time
- 3:59Speaker 1: in May when he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom
- 4:04Speaker 1: awarded by President Biden. Was also I should point this out.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I want to point this out. He was also known
- 4:11Speaker 1: for his generosity and commitment to understanding the human experience.
- 4:16Speaker 1: He used to say he didn't need celebrities on his show.
- 4:20Speaker 1: The celebrities were the audience. It was us. We all
- 4:24Speaker 1: have a story and if we tell it in a respectful,
- 4:27Speaker 1: kind way, then that is something we can all enjoy
- 4:31Speaker 1: learn from listen to. He was really, really, I can't
- 4:35Speaker 1: overestimate this a pioneer. So if you don't know who
- 4:38Speaker 1: Phil Donna, who is? And I'm sure there's a lot
- 4:40Speaker 1: of our younger listeners who do not google him, check
- 4:44Speaker 1: him out, because there'd be no Watch What Happens Live,
- 4:46Speaker 1: no Kelly Clarkson, no Ellen, and certainly no oph Oprah
- 4:51Speaker 1: put out a really beautiful statement. Let me read it
- 4:53Speaker 1: to you. Oprah said the following quote. There wouldn't have
- 4:57Speaker 1: been an Oprah show without Phil Donna being the first
- 5:01Speaker 1: to prove that daytime talk and women watching should be
- 5:06Speaker 1: taken seriously. So before this, the executives at the networks
- 5:09Speaker 1: they didn't take women watching TV very seriously. They thought
- 5:13Speaker 1: they just wanted cooking shows, or fashion shows or soap opera's.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no. Phil showed everybody that that was
- 5:20Speaker 1: not true. Oprah concluded by saying, quote, he was a pioneer.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I'm glad I got to thank him for it. Rest
- 5:28Speaker 1: in peace. She did thank him, She had him on
- 5:31Speaker 1: her show, and she literally said, I'm here because of you,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and we all want to thank you. We all stand
- 5:39Speaker 1: on your shoulders. So if you love daytime TV, if
- 5:42Speaker 1: you love these shows, you can tip your hat today
- 5:45Speaker 1: to Phil Donahue. Let's end with what his wife said,
- 5:49Speaker 1: Marla Thomas. It was a really sweet, poignant post. She
- 5:53Speaker 1: put up an nostalgic picture of the couple from their
- 5:56Speaker 1: younger years. They were together there for forty four years,
- 5:58Speaker 1: riding on her motor side, all the symbol of the
- 6:01Speaker 1: adventurous spirit that the two of them shared. She wrote
- 6:05Speaker 1: the following quote, I'm sure by now you've heard the
- 6:08Speaker 1: very sad news that I lost my sweetheart last night.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Oh it's so beautiful. I lost my sweetheart. We all
- 6:17Speaker 1: lost our sweetheart, didn't we. He was a remarkable man.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Friends of mine who work in TV say that they
- 6:23Speaker 1: were absolutely gobsmacked by him. Everybody thinks it's Oprah. Oprah's
- 6:27Speaker 1: important and did a fabulous show change TV too. But
- 6:31Speaker 1: he was the pioneer. He was first, and we forget
- 6:35Speaker 1: that sometimes, don't we. It was Phil. Let's remember it today,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and let's remember him too. There's no pole question on
- 6:42Speaker 1: the day. We only do pole questions on our lead story,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and we certainly don't do pole questions when somebody passes.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Rest in peace, Rest in power. Okay, moving along, So
- 6:53Speaker 1: more lows is coming out about Blake Lively. So there's
- 6:57Speaker 1: another incident when she snapped at her reporter. I know
- 7:00Speaker 1: a friend of mine, Chris Rosenar, he's a great reporter.
- 7:03Speaker 1: She snapped at him over a question about her romance.
- 7:07Speaker 1: So she clapped back at a reporter who dared dared
- 7:10Speaker 1: to probe into her rumored relationship with her then boyfriend
- 7:14Speaker 1: Gossip Girl co star Penn Badly. It was a two
- 7:18Speaker 1: thousand and eight interview with New York magazine and Lively
- 7:21Speaker 1: was discussing her role in a film where she kissed
- 7:25Speaker 1: the legendary Alan Arkins. So she said, he's a bit
- 7:29Speaker 1: of an upgrade from Chance and Penn referring to her
- 7:33Speaker 1: two co stars. So she was making fun and joining it. Well, Chris,
- 7:37Speaker 1: he's a brilliant reporter. Chris jumped in and took this
- 7:40Speaker 1: as an opportunity to ask her about her off screen
- 7:44Speaker 1: romances with Penn, and she did not like it. She
- 7:49Speaker 1: was kurt and she replied, quote, I thought this was
- 7:52Speaker 1: New York magazine. I thought you were supposed to be classy. Now,
- 7:58Speaker 1: if Blake wasn't getting a lot of bad press at
- 8:01Speaker 1: the moment, I would say, well, she was just defending
- 8:04Speaker 1: her privacy here. She doesn't want to talk about her privacy.
- 8:07Speaker 1: She did this interview in two thousand and eight, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: at the time nobody cared about this answer. But now,
- 8:12Speaker 1: because there's so many interviews of Blake being let's say, prickly,
- 8:17Speaker 1: a little prickly, that now this is just adding to
- 8:19Speaker 1: the narrative that maybe Blake isn't such a nice person.
- 8:24Speaker 1: There is a devastating, long, long article on vox Vox
- 8:28Speaker 1: about Blake. You should read it, and it talks about
- 8:32Speaker 1: how someone we thought was a really great person might
- 8:35Speaker 1: be a mean girl. Somebody has used her power to
- 8:39Speaker 1: not necessarily do always the right thing and so now
- 8:42Speaker 1: this debate is really, really loud, and a lot of
- 8:46Speaker 1: people are coming forward. It sort of reminds me of
- 8:49Speaker 1: the Ellen days when the rumors started to circulate about Ellen.
- 8:55Speaker 1: They started as a whisper and then they got louder
- 8:58Speaker 1: and louder and louder. That's same process now is happening
- 9:01Speaker 1: to Blake. Just yesterday on my Instagram page, three producers
- 9:08Speaker 1: from very very big TV shows they DM me and said,
- 9:13Speaker 1: when Blake was on our show, behind the scenes, she
- 9:17Speaker 1: was not very nice. One said she was awful to
- 9:20Speaker 1: the staff, and then she went out in front of
- 9:22Speaker 1: the camera and she was charming. She looked great, she
- 9:25Speaker 1: was funny, but then she came backstage and turned into
- 9:28Speaker 1: someone that wasn't very kind again. So maybe there's a
- 9:31Speaker 1: side of Blake here. It does catch up with you,
- 9:33Speaker 1: doesn't it. If you're rude ones, you're rude ones, it's
- 9:36Speaker 1: not good. But if you're rude every time, then it
- 9:39Speaker 1: becomes a trend, then it becomes who you are. Then
- 9:42Speaker 1: people start to talk about it. So if the overwhelming
- 9:47Speaker 1: noise of the overwhelming conversation is that I have worked
- 9:51Speaker 1: with Blake on a TV show, I've worked with her here.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I've worked with her there and it was in a
- 9:55Speaker 1: very good experience. And you hear that over and over
- 9:59Speaker 1: and over again again, you're gonna start believing it. Okay,
- 10:02Speaker 1: this made me sort of giggle. I like Juliana Hauff.
- 10:06Speaker 1: She was gonna be the next Britney Spears for a moment.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Remember when she had a music career, she was making movies.
- 10:11Speaker 1: She exploded from Dancing with the Stars. While she's back
- 10:14Speaker 1: out there now doing more interviews, and I can't get enough.
- 10:17Speaker 1: She's talking about who shouldn't have won Dancing with the Stars. Ooh,
- 10:22Speaker 1: so the professional dancer. She was on Andy Cohen's show
- 10:25Speaker 1: Watch What Happens and she was asked who should not
- 10:28Speaker 1: have won this legendary show, and she said, it's Bobby Bones,
- 10:33Speaker 1: who won season twenty seven of the beloved dance competition.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And so she said she has to agree Bobby Bones
- 10:42Speaker 1: should not have won. Now, Bobby is a radio personality.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I met him as a really nice guy. He won
- 10:49Speaker 1: season twenty seven along with pro dancer Shanna Burgess in
- 10:55Speaker 1: two eighteen. That's the yeah, two thousand and eighteen. Now,
- 10:59Speaker 1: at the time, there was a lot of debate because
- 11:00Speaker 1: he wasn't the most skillful dancer, and he acknowledged that,
- 11:04Speaker 1: but he also acknowledged the power of his fan base
- 11:08Speaker 1: and said that is why he ultimately ultimately won. Now, Juliana,
- 11:12Speaker 1: she's a good person. She also was quick to praise Bones.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So she said he shouldn't have won on his dancing skills,
- 11:18Speaker 1: but for his great fans and his popularity, and they
- 11:21Speaker 1: all voted. That's why he won. Now he should note
- 11:24Speaker 1: as well that after after he won, they changed the
- 11:30Speaker 1: rules of the show. They changed the voting rules after
- 11:34Speaker 1: Bobby Bones. People on the show call it the Bobby
- 11:36Speaker 1: Bones rule, and so that's a testament to his impact
- 11:41Speaker 1: on the show. Now Bobby has clapped back at Juliana
- 11:44Speaker 1: half He's done it in a funny way, crowning himself
- 11:47Speaker 1: the greatest champion. He shared an Instagram video and he
- 11:50Speaker 1: said I was the worst dancer, he admitted with a grin,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and he said I take pride in that. He said, now,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I tried as hard as anyone in the history of
- 12:00Speaker 1: the show, but I can't dance now and couldn't dance then.
- 12:06Speaker 1: He did make jokes though, saying that we took down
- 12:09Speaker 1: the evil empire of dance of which there's no evil
- 12:12Speaker 1: and there's no empire because it was you and me,
- 12:16Speaker 1: we did it together. And the greatest champion ever, he said, quote,
- 12:20Speaker 1: I didn't say I was the greatest dancer ever, but
- 12:23Speaker 1: the greatest champion ever because I'm a man of the people.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I am the man that the people selected it did. Now,
- 12:31Speaker 1: remember this, it's not a dance show. It's a popularity show.
- 12:34Speaker 1: It's a personality show. The people that go on this
- 12:37Speaker 1: show need huge fan basism. Bobby because he's so big
- 12:40Speaker 1: in the country world. He's like the Howard Stern of country.
- 12:43Speaker 1: He got a lot of the country singers, a lot
- 12:46Speaker 1: of those really talented singers carry underwoods, the people who
- 12:50Speaker 1: knew what it was like to be on a competition show.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He got them to support him and to rally their
- 12:55Speaker 1: fans too, and that's why he won because people voted
- 12:58Speaker 1: fair and square. Then the news But Bobby, I think
- 13:01Speaker 1: I agree with you. Maybe still not the best answer,
- 13:05Speaker 1: but still the best champion. We have a new update
- 13:09Speaker 1: on Ben Affleck. He's very focused at the moment on
- 13:11Speaker 1: preparing his daughter Violet for college amid all the marital
- 13:14Speaker 1: strain with Jennifer Lopez. They're still together. I'm told they're talking.
- 13:18Speaker 1: They are talking again. There's reports they'd stop talking. They
- 13:21Speaker 1: are talking. He's involved in her life, she's involved in his.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Still they're just not living together. But they are not
- 13:26Speaker 1: divorced yet and told there are no plans to design
- 13:29Speaker 1: the divorce papers anytime soon. And at the moment, Ben
- 13:32Speaker 1: just turned fifty two. Jen turned up on his birthday.
- 13:34Speaker 1: She went to his house, so that's a good sign.
- 13:36Speaker 1: She spent about five hours there. Jennifer Gardner was there too,
- 13:39Speaker 1: not at the same time. We saw the kids there.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And now his eldest daughter, Violet is off to college.
- 13:44Speaker 1: She's going to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, or
- 13:48Speaker 1: have fancy sources are telling People magazine. Ben is very
- 13:52Speaker 1: focused on getting Violet ready for the move. He also
- 13:56Speaker 1: added that this is a huge deal for the whole
- 13:58Speaker 1: family and they're really excited in sharing this together. Ben
- 14:02Speaker 1: shares violence along with Sarahina who's fifteen, and Samuel with
- 14:06Speaker 1: his ex wife Jennifer Gardner, and they're juggling all these
- 14:09Speaker 1: responsibilities under a very very public eye. So we're all
- 14:13Speaker 1: talking about his marriage. But what Ben is focusing on
- 14:17Speaker 1: is his daughter. Quickly before we get a break. This
- 14:20Speaker 1: story broke my heart in the most tragic way and
- 14:22Speaker 1: then the most beautiful way too. Taylor Swift invited girls
- 14:26Speaker 1: involved in the tragic stabbing to a magical night backstage
- 14:32Speaker 1: at her Heiress tour in London. So during her concert
- 14:35Speaker 1: at Wembley Stadium sold out on August fifteenth, the thirty
- 14:40Speaker 1: four year old pop star extended a heartfelt invitation to
- 14:43Speaker 1: two children who were involved in the deadly stabbing and
- 14:47Speaker 1: a Swift themed yoga class in England. The girls, along
- 14:52Speaker 1: with their family were treated to special backstage experiences and
- 14:56Speaker 1: even a photograph with Taylor Swift. One of the mom's
- 14:59Speaker 1: post how grateful they were to Taylor and her mother
- 15:03Speaker 1: Andrea for quote making the most magical night possible for us,
- 15:08Speaker 1: A big thank you. Oh it's so beautiful and tragic.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Taylor always does the right thing, and she does it
- 15:15Speaker 1: without any publicity, any attention. If the girls, if their
- 15:18Speaker 1: moms had not spoken out about this, Taylor wouldn't have
- 15:21Speaker 1: said anything. Doing the right thing when nobody is watching
- 15:25Speaker 1: makes you really the right person. Okay, We're going to
- 15:28Speaker 1: take a quick break and we will be right back.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Welcome back to the naughty but nice on your hipst
- 15:35Speaker 1: rab shooter. Hey, let's get to the polls. No poll today,
- 15:40Speaker 1: no new poll, but this is the part of our
- 15:42Speaker 1: show where we always give you the results of our
- 15:44Speaker 1: last poll. So yesterday we talked about Meghan Markle reportedly
- 15:47Speaker 1: wanting to attend the convention in Chicago, but she wasn't invited.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Our question was, would Meghan's endorsement of a political party
- 15:56Speaker 1: a person in politics make a difference. Let's have a look.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Twenty percent said yes, So I don't think this is
- 16:02Speaker 1: a dig at Megan. Here, a lot of people get
- 16:05Speaker 1: really tired of celebrities and politics. I say it's their right.
- 16:09Speaker 1: They're Americans. I'm allowed to talk about politics if I
- 16:12Speaker 1: want to, I choose not to, But if you want to,
- 16:14Speaker 1: I get it. I have friends who are very vocal
- 16:17Speaker 1: about politics, some who are much more private than me.
- 16:19Speaker 1: But if you're a celebrity and you want to talk
- 16:21Speaker 1: about this, you have as much right as anybody else.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But it can turn some some people off. And so
- 16:27Speaker 1: here the question is not whether it would turn you off,
- 16:30Speaker 1: but do you even care? No, I don't. I make
- 16:34Speaker 1: my own mind up. I look at the policies, I
- 16:37Speaker 1: look at what's going to help my my family, my life,
- 16:39Speaker 1: my friends, the world. What's gonna help my sisters, what's
- 16:43Speaker 1: going to help people that I need some help? And
- 16:45Speaker 1: so look at the issues, not the people who endorse them.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I agree with you noughties. There's no poll today, but
- 16:54Speaker 1: we will be back tomorrow with a new pole. Okay,
- 16:58Speaker 1: let's do the nicest of the day, and it says
- 17:02Speaker 1: of the days. Megan markle for speaking Spanish during an
- 17:05Speaker 1: empowerment forum in Columbia. So she showed off her impressive
- 17:09Speaker 1: Spanish speaking skills during a conversation. She was there with
- 17:13Speaker 1: her husband, Prince Harry, and they were talking about women's empowerment.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So she stole the show. When she took the stage,
- 17:19Speaker 1: she removed her ear piece and she started talking directly
- 17:22Speaker 1: to the crowd in Spanish. So Harry and Meghan were
- 17:24Speaker 1: wearing earpieces so everything could be translated into English. However,
- 17:28Speaker 1: Meghan didn't need it. She understood the Spanish and she
- 17:31Speaker 1: could speak in Spanish. She could reply in Spanish. The
- 17:34Speaker 1: crowd went crazy when she did this. This isn't the
- 17:39Speaker 1: first time that Meghan has impressed with her Spanish. Earlier
- 17:43Speaker 1: on their Columbia trip, she and Harry engaged with some
- 17:46Speaker 1: local kindergod and children, and she spoke to the kids
- 17:49Speaker 1: in their native language. Now a lot of people don't
- 17:52Speaker 1: know this, but Meghan is fluent in Spanish, and this
- 17:55Speaker 1: comes from her time in turning at the US Embassy
- 17:58Speaker 1: in Buenosarres, Argentina. She also spent some time studying aboard
- 18:04Speaker 1: in Madrid, Spain, so this explains her fabulous Spanish. It's interesting,
- 18:10Speaker 1: isn't it. I wish I'd spoken of the language. It's
- 18:12Speaker 1: my one regret, or one of my regrets. Let's say
- 18:15Speaker 1: that I'd loved a bit. Maybe I'll take up that beliitz?
- 18:17Speaker 1: Is that what it's called? That thing you do online?
- 18:20Speaker 1: I'll let you know. Okay, let's do our naughtiest the day, naughty, naughty, naughty.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Prince William does not want Harry at his coronation, so
- 18:28Speaker 1: sources talking to the Sunday Times, that's a very respectable
- 18:32Speaker 1: newspaper in London, saying that Harry and William are in
- 18:36Speaker 1: a really bad place. And now William has decided that
- 18:40Speaker 1: he does not want his brother there to see him crowned.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So when Charles passes, he's seventy five years old. This ceremony,
- 18:48Speaker 1: the coronation is going to look very, very different. The
- 18:51Speaker 1: most noticeable difference is that Harry will not be there.
- 18:54Speaker 1: The report highlighted these two have not spoken in two years.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Two years. Not only is he estranged from his brother,
- 19:03Speaker 1: he is also now estranged from King Charles, who ascended
- 19:06Speaker 1: the throne after Queen Elizabeth died in twenty twenty two.
- 19:10Speaker 1: So as to say the following quote, the problem for
- 19:14Speaker 1: the king and other members of the family is they
- 19:16Speaker 1: worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it
- 19:18Speaker 1: will appear in his book Volume two spare volume two.
