Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's Bedtime Stories,
- 0:13Speaker 1: the podcast that takes your ideas and turns them into
- 0:17Speaker 1: bedtime stories. And I believe we have an idea for
- 0:21Speaker 1: the Biomorphers series, so let's check that out.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Hi, my name is Noah and I have a suggestion
- 0:29Speaker 2: for the Byron Morpher series where you find a giant
- 0:33Speaker 2: stone golem that has a bunch of cannons and they
- 0:40Speaker 2: shoot lava. But you finally defeat it and then when
- 0:46Speaker 2: you defeat it, there's a lava T-Rex and the lava
- 0:51Speaker 2: T-Rex charges at you and it shoots lava at you.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Your shield that you got from the rock golem. Bye,
- 1:00Speaker 2: I love your podcast.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Thank you, Noah. Great suggestion bringing us back to the
- 1:06Speaker 1: Biomorphers series. I think this will be episode three. Episode
- 1:11Speaker 1: one we did a really long time ago and had
- 1:13Speaker 1: a mac and cheese monster. Episode two was also kind
- 1:17Speaker 1: of a rock and lava creature. But, you know, you
- 1:20Speaker 1: can't have too many rock and lava creatures, can you?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Before we get started, I just have a couple important
- 1:28Speaker 1: shoutouts to give. First of all, I want to remind
- 1:31Speaker 1: everyone that the Cards of Power game is out. You
- 1:35Speaker 1: can buy it through print-on-demand on GameCrafter. It's all linked
- 1:40Speaker 1: through my website. If you go to dadsbedtimestories.com, you can
- 1:44Speaker 1: check out that, as well as all of my books
- 1:47Speaker 1: and things, which are much more neatly organized with links
- 1:50Speaker 1: to every country. It's a huge improvement, honestly. For that game,
- 1:55Speaker 1: there's a lot of little things I want you to
- 1:56Speaker 1: know about it that I don't have time to say.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So just make sure you read the description because it
- 2:00Speaker 1: tells you, you know, how old you should be. It
- 2:04Speaker 1: tells you a little bit about how the game was
- 2:05Speaker 1: created and that sort of thing. The biggest thing is
- 2:09Speaker 1: that the game takes a really, really long time to print.
- 2:12Speaker 1: So if you want it like a month or two
- 2:15Speaker 1: from now, you should order it right now. You really,
- 2:18Speaker 1: really should. Next up, we have some important shoutouts. First
- 2:23Speaker 1: of all, thank you to Kaylee, one of my Patreon supporters.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And happy belated birthday. I guess it was on at
- 2:32Speaker 1: the end of September there. So happy birthday, Kaylee. I
- 2:36Speaker 1: hope you had a good one. And thanks for listening.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Next up, thank you to some of my newest Patreon sponsors,
- 2:43Speaker 1: Hudson and Jaren. I really appreciate you guys supporting me
- 2:47Speaker 1: on Patreon and listening. Hi, how are you? And last,
- 2:52Speaker 1: but certainly not least, thank you to Rachel and Ryan.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I appreciate you guys supporting me on Patreon, too, and
- 3:01Speaker 1: for listening to the podcast. If you want to support
- 3:05Speaker 1: the podcast, there's lots of ways to do it. First
- 3:08Speaker 1: of all, just by listening, so thank you. That's actually
- 3:11Speaker 1: a really, really big deal for me, listening to the podcast.
- 3:15Speaker 1: If you want ad-free episodes, though, and some bonus content,
- 3:18Speaker 1: you can check us out on Patreon, where, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: most recently I've been posting the drafts of my Cards
- 3:26Speaker 1: of Power graphic novel, volumes 1 and 2, which are
- 3:31Speaker 1: all available to read there, 100 pages each, still some
- 3:36Speaker 1: kinks to work out, and I really appreciate my early
- 3:40Speaker 1: readers on Patreon and other places for checking it out
- 3:44Speaker 1: and pointing out the things that still need to change,
- 3:46Speaker 1: so Big shout out to Arlen from Australia, who's been
- 3:51Speaker 1: kind of my editor, and Busy Dad for, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: reading the early drafts of that thing and giving me
- 3:59Speaker 1: some notes on some weirdness that needs to be changed.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I really appreciate it. I'll let everyone know when it's
- 4:06Speaker 1: out to be published. But now I should probably get
- 4:10Speaker 1: on with the podcast because, yeah, we're pretty far into
- 4:14Speaker 1: the thing. Get as comfy as you can, wherever it
- 4:19Speaker 1: is you're listening, and just imagine yourself doing what the
- 4:24Speaker 1: character in the story does. You wake up with your
- 4:31Speaker 1: beak tucked beneath your flaming wing. For a moment, you
- 4:36Speaker 1: wonder why your pillow is on fire, but then you
- 4:40Speaker 1: remember you are the fire. You're still a gigantic phoenix,
- 4:47Speaker 1: curled in the stone bed your body melted into the
- 4:50Speaker 1: mountaintop the other night. You stretch your wings and sparks
- 4:57Speaker 1: drift into the morning air. Yesterday you added a rock
- 5:02Speaker 1: monster with a lava core to your collection of forms.
- 5:06Speaker 1: You also captured the actual creature who agreed to become
- 5:10Speaker 1: your traveling companion. provided there would be more opportunities to,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, throw rocks at things. You launch into the sky,
- 5:21Speaker 1: summon your map from your biomorfer, and continue toward the
- 5:26Speaker 1: blinking red dot you chose yesterday. Before long, a mountain appears.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Smoke pours from its summit. Below it, beside a little river,
- 5:41Speaker 1: Sits a village. As you approach the mountain, it shudders.
- 5:48Speaker 1: What's going on down there? You say out loud. Reports
- 5:54Speaker 1: indicate that the volcano near the village is approaching eruption.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Your wings wobble.
- 6:02Speaker 3: What?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Who was that? Who's speaking to me? Your biomorphers on
- 6:08Speaker 1: board computer. You can have conversations? Yes, apparently. Why didn't
- 6:16Speaker 1: you say something before? You hadn't asked a question. Well,
- 6:22Speaker 1: fair enough, you suppose. You've heard it announce scans and
- 6:25Speaker 1: give directions, but you hadn't realized you could actually talk
- 6:29Speaker 1: to it. Why is the volcano erupting? It has been
- 6:34Speaker 1: dormant for centuries. Recent anomaly readings suggest that a quantum
- 6:40Speaker 1: uncertainty field has awakened creatures within its lava and rock.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Their activity appears to be destabilizing the mountain. Another rumble
- 6:53Speaker 1: rolls across the valley. You beat your wings faster, landing
- 7:00Speaker 1: on the crater's rim and looking down into the huge
- 7:04Speaker 1: bowl of black stone and glowing orange lava. Something enormous
- 7:11Speaker 1: stands below, something that looks like a golem, a really
- 7:17Speaker 1: big golem. Its body is built from thick slabs of
- 7:22Speaker 1: volcanic rock with rivers of lava glowing between them. Two
- 7:29Speaker 1: gigantic cannons form its forearms. It points both barrels at
- 7:35Speaker 1: the crater wall. With two loud booms, blazing rocks slam
- 7:43Speaker 1: into the mountain and explode. A section of the wall collapses,
- 7:48Speaker 1: releasing fresh lava through the opening. The golem plunges its
- 7:53Speaker 1: cannon arms into the flow. Orange light surges through its body,
- 7:59Speaker 1: then it turns to another wall. It's digging. It wants
- 8:06Speaker 1: the lava for some reason. And weakening the volcano with
- 8:11Speaker 1: every blast. The computer replies, Luckily, you recently acquired a
- 8:18Speaker 1: form that might be perfect for this. You leap from
- 8:22Speaker 1: the rim and select your rock creature. Your wings fold
- 8:28Speaker 1: into enormous arms. Feathers harden into stone, a molten core
- 8:34Speaker 1: glows inside your chest, and you drop like a boulder, which, well,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you pretty much are. With a crash, you land on
- 8:45Speaker 1: the shelf, sending cracks racing beneath your feet. Perhaps a
- 8:51Speaker 1: gentler landing next time, the computer suggests. You activate your
- 8:57Speaker 1: companion's disc. It shoots onto the ground, spilling blue light
- 9:03Speaker 1: that grows into a familiar rocky shape before the empty
- 9:08Speaker 1: disc returns to your wrist. Your friend looks around. Lava, boulders,
- 9:16Speaker 1: an enormous stone creature. Good place, it says. We need
- 9:24Speaker 1: that big guy to stop digging. Circle around him. Your
- 9:29Speaker 1: companion lumbers left as you move right. Hey, you shout,
- 9:36Speaker 1: though your voice sounds like grinding stones. Stop, you're breaking
- 9:41Speaker 1: the volcano. There's a village outside. The huge golem turns.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Up close, it's at least twice your height, even in
- 9:52Speaker 1: the rock monster form. Its orange eyes narrow. It looks
- 9:58Speaker 1: from you to the floor. lava behind it. Then, it
- 10:03Speaker 1: raises a cannon. I'm guessing that's a no. With a boom,
- 10:09Speaker 1: you throw yourself sideways as a blazing boulder smashes into
- 10:13Speaker 1: the ground beside you. The explosion tumbles you across the
- 10:19Speaker 1: shelf You scramble up, holding both hands. Stone rises into
- 10:25Speaker 1: a thick shield just as the second cannon fires. With
- 10:30Speaker 1: a crack, your shield bursts apart. Okay, very powerful cannons.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Your companion hurls a boulder at the golem's shoulder. It staggers,
- 10:43Speaker 1: swings around, and fires. You pull a slab of rock
- 10:48Speaker 1: upwards beneath your friend's feet. lifting him clear of the blast. Jump!
- 10:54Speaker 1: He jumps. Unfortunately, he jumps directly into the golem. His
- 11:00Speaker 1: arms wrap around its head. Rock, play! Yes, but careful,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you say. The giant shakes him loose, and your friend,
- 11:13Speaker 1: the rock monster, sails through the air. You raise a
- 11:18Speaker 1: sloping ramp beneath him, using your power over the rocks,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and he lands and slides down on his bottom, again.
- 11:28Speaker 1: The golem aims at you. Your companion stops. Stones rise
- 11:35Speaker 1: beneath its elbow, knocking the cannon upward as it fires.
- 11:40Speaker 1: The shot whistles out of the crater. You drag a
- 11:44Speaker 1: ridge of rock against the giant's ankles. It stumbles, but
- 11:49Speaker 1: catches itself with one cannon arm, then the other swings
- 11:54Speaker 1: toward you. You duck behind a boulder, and with a boom,
- 12:00Speaker 1: the top half of the boulder disappears. You crouch lower.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Any suggestions? You ask your biomorfer. The cannons build pressure
- 12:12Speaker 1: before firing. Notice the light traveling along the barrels. You
- 12:18Speaker 1: peek around the cover. Orange light gathers as the golem's
- 12:24Speaker 1: cannon shoots. Some sort of charging mechanism. An idea begins forming.
- 12:33Speaker 1: You look at the two round boulders beside you.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Then at the.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Two round cannon openings. What happens if the pressure can't
- 12:44Speaker 1: get out? You ask. I would believe a significant overload
- 12:50Speaker 1: would occur. I recommend being somewhere else if that happens.
- 12:57Speaker 1: You wave your friend closer. Yes, he says, and you
- 13:03Speaker 1: explain the plan. Me make big friend look. You throw rocks? Uh, yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 1: pretty much. You respond. Then you're probably going to want
- 13:17Speaker 1: to get behind cover. Your companion stomps into the open,
- 13:23Speaker 1: scoops up a small stone, and flicks it against the
- 13:27Speaker 1: golem's forehead. The giant turns. Your friend wiggles a rocky
- 13:34Speaker 1: little finger. Missed me, stone man. It hasn't fired yet,
- 13:42Speaker 1: you say? Both cannons rise, pointing at your friend. It
- 13:47Speaker 1: will miss me. You reach out to the boulders with
- 13:52Speaker 1: your mind. Both of them lift into the air. You
- 13:57Speaker 1: quickly squeeze them into shapes just wider than the barrels.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Perfect little cannonball sort of things. Orange light crawls along
- 14:08Speaker 1: both cannon arms. You wait.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Wait.
- 14:12Speaker 1: As the golem plants its feet, and at the perfect time,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you thrust both of your hands forward and the stones
- 14:21Speaker 1: rocket through the air. With two thunks, they wedge tightly
- 14:27Speaker 1: into the cannon openings. Your friend dives behind a ridge.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You throw up another wall and crouch beside him. The
- 14:37Speaker 1: golem looks down at its arms. A strange rising whistle
- 14:42Speaker 1: fills the crater and then... Kaboom! Orange light flashes above
- 14:49Speaker 1: your shelter. The shockwave rattles your teeth. You have rock
- 14:55Speaker 1: teeth now, apparently. When you peek out, the golem is
- 15:00Speaker 1: flat on its back. Smoke curls from its cannons and
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's closed its eyes. He has been knocked unconscious, the
- 15:12Speaker 1: biomorpher confirms. Its core remains intact. You hurry over and
- 15:19Speaker 1: scan it. Blue light sweeps across its enormous body. Quantum
- 15:25Speaker 1: information acquired. A new form appears in your vision. Then,
- 15:33Speaker 1: you launch a captured disk beside the motionless giant. Blue
- 15:38Speaker 1: energy spreads over its body, drawing stone, lava, and cannons,
- 15:44Speaker 1: of course, broken cannons in this case, into the little disc.
- 15:50Speaker 1: With a click, it returns to your wrist. Your companion
- 15:55Speaker 1: pats your shoulder. Good rock play. Then, something roars behind you.
- 16:04Speaker 1: something much bigger than your friend. You turn slowly as
- 16:12Speaker 1: a huge head rises from the nearest lava lake, then
- 16:17Speaker 1: a neck, then a body covered in black stone scales
- 16:24Speaker 1: with molten orange glowing through every gap. Two tiny little
- 16:30Speaker 1: arms curl beneath its chest, An enormous tail swings behind it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Is that a... The creature opens its mouth, revealing teeth
- 16:42Speaker 1: like jagged volcanic glass. Lava Tyrannosaurus, you yell. Confirmed, your
- 16:51Speaker 1: biomorpha agrees. The dinosaur climbs onto the shelf and charges.
- 17:00Speaker 1: You quickly select your newest form. Stone rolls over your shoulders,
- 17:06Speaker 1: your legs thicken even more, your head rises higher and
- 17:11Speaker 1: higher above your companion. Both hands pull back into your
- 17:16Speaker 1: forearms as thick rings of rock slide into place around them. Cannons.
- 17:24Speaker 1: You are the giant golem now. Your friend looks up.
- 17:31Speaker 2: You. Big.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Big.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, you agree. The dinosaur stops, apparently reconsidering its decision. Then,
- 17:43Speaker 1: it opens its jaws and breathes an enormous blast of
- 17:47Speaker 1: fire straight into your chest. You brace yourself and cross
- 17:52Speaker 1: your two cannons in front of you. Flames wash over
- 17:56Speaker 1: your shoulders and curl around your head, which actually feels
- 18:02Speaker 1: kinda nice. Like stepping into a hot shower after being
- 18:06Speaker 1: outside in the cold. The dinosaur adds a stream of lava.
- 18:13Speaker 1: It splashes across your chest, trickling between the stone plates. Oh,
- 18:19Speaker 1: that's even better. Your companion sticks one hand into the spray.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Warm rain. It turns out that, uh, well... Lava creatures
- 18:33Speaker 1: are mostly immune to lava. The dinosaur closes its mouth
- 18:38Speaker 1: and looks, well, disappointed. You raise your cannons. Instinctively, you
- 18:45Speaker 1: feel two ways to fire. Explosive rocks or powerful streams
- 18:52Speaker 1: of molten lava. Considering the condition of the mountain, you
- 18:57Speaker 1: choose the streams. You aim at the dinosaur's thick chest.
- 19:02Speaker 1: and fire. The recoil slides you backwards as the powerful
- 19:08Speaker 1: streams of lava hit the dinosaur. You plant your feet
- 19:13Speaker 1: and lean forward. The dinosaur, also pretty much unaffected by
- 19:19Speaker 1: the whole lava thing other than the powerful blast of
- 19:24Speaker 1: molten ground hitting it, digs its claws into the ground,
- 19:29Speaker 1: but Your twin blasts force it backward a step, then another.
- 19:36Speaker 1: The heat doesn't seem to bother it, but the pressure
- 19:40Speaker 1: is another matter. You stop firing as it swings its
- 19:45Speaker 1: enormous tail. Your companion raises a stone pillar beside you,
- 19:51Speaker 1: and the tail strikes it instead, breaking off the top. Thanks,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you say. Good team, your friend answers. The dinosaur lunges,
- 20:04Speaker 1: snapping its teeth shut where your head was a moment before.
- 20:09Speaker 1: You duck and fire again. It stumbles backwards. An idea
- 20:15Speaker 1: pops into your head. You lean toward your friend. Alright,
- 20:21Speaker 1: you go around behind it. Crouch down right behind its
- 20:25Speaker 1: feet when I fire. He looks at the dinosaur, then
- 20:30Speaker 1: at you. His rocky mouth spreads into a grin. Fall down, game.
- 20:39Speaker 1: He says, exactly. He circles behind the dinosaur while you
- 20:45Speaker 1: keep its attention with short bursts from your cannons. Left cannon,
- 20:50Speaker 1: right cannon. The dinosaur backs towards a wide and flat
- 20:55Speaker 1: stretch of stone. Your companion jumps behind, drops onto his
- 21:02Speaker 1: hands and knees, and tucks right behind the dinosaur's ankles.
- 21:07Speaker 1: You fire both cannons together. The dinosaur takes one more step.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Its heels bump into your friend's back. Its tiny arms flap.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And for a moment, it looks terribly surprised. And then,
- 21:25Speaker 1: with a thud, it drops down onto the ground and
- 21:29Speaker 1: begins to flail. Before it can stand, you activate your biomorfer.
- 21:36Speaker 1: and switch back to your smaller rock form. You immediately
- 21:41Speaker 1: reach out to the ground with your mind. Stone curves
- 21:46Speaker 1: upward around the dinosaur's legs. More rises across its body,
- 21:52Speaker 1: forming thick arches that hold it against the ground. You
- 21:57Speaker 1: leave its neck and head free, of course. It wriggles, snorts,
- 22:02Speaker 1: and tries to lift its tail, but no luck. You
- 22:07Speaker 1: approach from the side and scan it. Quantum information acquired.
- 22:14Speaker 1: The lava dinosaur joins your available forms. You prepare a
- 22:20Speaker 1: capture disk. Remember, the computer says, a creature must be
- 22:26Speaker 1: perfectly still and either unconscious or willing before it can
- 22:31Speaker 1: be trapped. You meet the dinosaur's glowing eyes. Uh, well,
- 22:39Speaker 1: we can get you out of these rocks, but you
- 22:42Speaker 1: need to stop trying to eat us. It huffs. The
- 22:47Speaker 1: disc will keep you safe while we find somewhere more
- 22:50Speaker 1: suitable for you. Somewhere you can stomp around without breaking
- 22:55Speaker 1: a whole village. You point toward your wrist, then hold
- 23:00Speaker 1: your hand still. The dinosaur watches. Finally... It stops struggling
- 23:08Speaker 1: and lowers its head, nudging its snout toward the disc.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Willing capture confirmed. Blue light spreads over its scales. The
- 23:20Speaker 1: dinosaur dissolves into energy and disappears, leaving empty stone arches behind.
- 23:29Speaker 1: The disc flies back to your biomorfer and clicks into place.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Another rumble passes beneath your feet. The creatures are contained,
- 23:41Speaker 1: the computer says. However, the damage remains. You look around.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Broken walls, widening cracks, lava rising through openings. Show us
- 23:57Speaker 1: where to start, you say, and a diagram appears in
- 24:02Speaker 1: your vision. highlighting the weakened sections of volcano. You and
- 24:08Speaker 1: your companion press your hands against the ground. Together, you
- 24:14Speaker 1: draw solid rock into thick supports beneath the damaged walls.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Fallen boulders rise and settle into the gaps like pieces
- 24:25Speaker 1: of an enormous puzzle. You guide lava between them, joining
- 24:31Speaker 1: the stone as it cools. Following the computer's directions, you
- 24:36Speaker 1: also widen a passage into an empty underground chamber, giving
- 24:42Speaker 1: the lava somewhere else to flow than up. Slowly, the
- 24:48Speaker 1: lakes begin dropping. The trembling eases and then stops. Volcano stabilized,
- 24:59Speaker 1: the village should be safe now. Your companion raises both arms.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Fixed.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Rock. You bump your fist against his. Good team, buddy.
- 25:14Speaker 1: He happily sits still for the capture disc. Once he's
- 25:18Speaker 1: safely back inside your biomorfer, you become a phoenix once again.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Your arms stretching out into wings, your body lighting on fire.
- 25:32Speaker 1: With the simple will to fly, you jump into the
- 25:36Speaker 1: air and blast out of the crater like a stream
- 25:41Speaker 1: of fire. You fly until the volcano fades behind you
- 25:46Speaker 1: and then settle onto another quiet mountain. This time you
- 25:52Speaker 1: have an idea for something better than an outdoor bed.
- 25:57Speaker 1: You return to your rock form. then spread your hands.
- 26:04Speaker 1: The ground listens to you and rises. Four walls grow
- 26:10Speaker 1: around an empty space, a rock roof curves over them.
- 26:16Speaker 1: You shape a little window and a doorway large enough
- 26:19Speaker 1: for your broad shoulders, your very own rock cabin. Inside,
- 26:28Speaker 1: you raise a bed from the floor and carefully shape
- 26:32Speaker 1: it to fit your body. Then you lie down. Strangely,
- 26:38Speaker 1: it's surprisingly comfortable in your rock form. Perhaps when you're
- 26:44Speaker 1: made of rocks, a rock mattress is exactly what you need.
- 26:50Speaker 1: The gentle glow from your chest warms the little room
- 26:55Speaker 1: and your eyes grow tired. So, you allow them to close.
- 27:03Speaker 1: With each breath, you release any tension inside your very
- 27:10Speaker 1: impressive rock muscles. Your arms release, your legs release, and
- 27:20Speaker 1: with each breath, you sink down deeper and deeper into
- 27:26Speaker 1: the mattress. and your mind begins to wander off to
- 27:33Speaker 1: thoughts of new dreams, new adventures, and new quantum forms
- 27:41Speaker 1: to come. Good night, everyone.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. you Thank you.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Thank you. you Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. you
- 40:44Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you. you Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
- 45:54Speaker 3: you Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Amen. Thank you. Thank you.
