The Season with Peter Schrager: Sean Evans of “Hot Ones” · Best of the NFL Podcast Network

0:07
Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
0:09
Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's off, everybody, This is
0:24
Speaker 1: Peter Schreger and you're listening to you this season with
0:26
Speaker 1: Peter Schreger. It is the Tuesday of Week three of
0:31
Speaker 1: the NFL season. So we closed the book with two
0:34
Speaker 1: Monday night games last evening, two ugly games. To be honest,
0:38
Speaker 1: I mean Steelers win, but they had negative seven yards
0:42
Speaker 1: of offense in the fourth quarter.
0:43
Speaker 2: And the big story is Nick Chubb, who's a beloved.
0:46
Speaker 1: Player in the league and my favorite pound for pal
0:48
Speaker 1: running back in the sport, out for the season with
0:50
Speaker 1: a gruesome injury. And then Saints Panthers again, like the
0:54
Speaker 1: storyline is Saints defense played well.
0:57
Speaker 2: That's not it was a tough watch. Saints win. Panthers
1:00
Speaker 2: are a year away, maybe more. That offensive line gave
1:03
Speaker 2: Bryce Young no help. That's it. That's the NFL.
1:08
Speaker 1: You know, week two putting on a bow of it,
1:09
Speaker 1: and like you have these two Monday night games and
1:11
Speaker 1: you're like, gosh, Saturday night Colorado, Colorado State was so
1:16
Speaker 1: much cooler. And I know we're doing an NFL season podcast,
1:21
Speaker 1: but you can't tell the season of football without talking
1:25
Speaker 1: about this Dion effect.
1:28
Speaker 2: Let me just take you through it.
1:29
Speaker 1: Aaron and I'm with Aaron wan Kaufman, my great producer
1:32
Speaker 1: and friend, and Jason English is here as well from
1:34
Speaker 1: my heart list.
1:36
Speaker 2: I'm on a flight. I'm on a Jet Blue flight.
1:39
Speaker 1: And I'm in one of those deals where the TVs
1:44
Speaker 1: are on all over across, all over the place, so
1:46
Speaker 1: you could see all the TVs. I flew out on
1:49
Speaker 1: like ten am Eastern, which means that like both Game
1:54
Speaker 1: Day and Fox's new show Fox Big Noon Kickoff are
1:58
Speaker 1: both on it too. They're both at Colorado and in
2:02
Speaker 1: the same flight. I would say that usually it's you're
2:05
Speaker 1: getting people watch and the Housewives. You've got someone watching,
2:08
Speaker 1: you know, Taken as a movie. You've got some kids
2:12
Speaker 1: watching every TV's watching Colorado Colorado State pregame. And I'd
2:16
Speaker 1: say it was split down the middle between the Fox
2:18
Speaker 1: and the ESPN. But the fact matter is on one
2:20
Speaker 1: camera you've got the Rock in ESPN sending you know,
2:24
Speaker 1: their talent.
2:25
Speaker 2: And having McAfee with the Rock over there. On the
2:27
Speaker 2: other camp, I've.
2:28
Speaker 1: Got Lil Wayne performing, who then tosses it to Gronk,
2:32
Speaker 1: who's there inexplicably, but like it's the hype man and
2:34
Speaker 1: was great, and then Dion's on camera and he's doing
2:38
Speaker 1: interviews with both on set, and the wild thing to
2:41
Speaker 1: me is that it was like eight am Local. They
2:44
Speaker 1: didn't play for another twelve hours, and the fans and
2:48
Speaker 1: the students had to like go nuts per game day,
2:51
Speaker 1: go nuts for the Fox show, and then like somehow
2:54
Speaker 1: bottle it and go out there and do it all
2:57
Speaker 1: over again during the game. Then once the game starts.
2:59
Speaker 1: Did you see the rating this morning, Aaron? See the
3:01
Speaker 1: number come out?
3:02
Speaker 3: No, I mean from the sheer amount of people talking
3:05
Speaker 3: about it, I have to it's incredible, all.
3:08
Speaker 2: Right, So.
3:10
Speaker 1: I'd love I wish we had Like there's a guy
3:12
Speaker 1: named Mike mulva Hill who does Fox ratings analysis, and
3:16
Speaker 1: there's all these other ratings people online. There's a guy
3:18
Speaker 1: named sports TV Ratings, the Twitter feed, there's another thing
3:20
Speaker 1: like Paulson they do the ratings. It got a nine
3:23
Speaker 1: point three unlinear, so forget all the streaming thing. They
3:28
Speaker 1: already said it was the most streamed college football game
3:31
Speaker 1: of all time on ESPN, but at nine to three
3:34
Speaker 1: means it had nine point three million people watching.
3:37
Speaker 2: Now think about when this thing was on.
3:41
Speaker 1: It started at ten o'clock Eastern, meaning it carried an
3:45
Speaker 1: audience through midnight to one. I'll be honest with you,
3:49
Speaker 1: you know I told you my routine not a big
3:51
Speaker 1: go out guy. Charles Woodson is a great idea. He says,
3:55
Speaker 1: let's watch the start of Dion at the hotel bar
4:00
Speaker 1: and we'll get some food.
4:01
Speaker 2: I at the start. I want to see the starts.
4:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, they come out, well, they come out and there's
4:04
Speaker 1: a pick six out of the gates and there, and
4:07
Speaker 1: then there's a it's called back.
4:08
Speaker 2: And then there's another play, and all of a sudden.
4:11
Speaker 1: It's this date of this backyard brawl where Hunter is
4:15
Speaker 1: getting the shot from the Colorado State kid, but Colorado
4:17
Speaker 1: State will not back down, and they're doing crossing patterns
4:19
Speaker 1: and they're killing Colorado and you're starting to I can't
4:23
Speaker 1: turn this off. It was amazing. Stayed up watched the
4:28
Speaker 1: entire thing. I was fortunate enough to be watching it
4:31
Speaker 1: with one of the greatest players of all time, with
4:32
Speaker 1: Charles Woodson breaking it down, and we're having fun watching.
4:35
Speaker 1: But I'm getting text from my friends on the East
4:37
Speaker 1: Coast who are watching. So if I'm on the West
4:38
Speaker 1: coast and it ends at at like nine to ten pm.
4:43
Speaker 1: People are watching on the East coast that want all right, So,
4:46
Speaker 1: to me, this Dion craze is the story of the
4:48
Speaker 1: football season right now. I love Tua, I love Lamar,
4:51
Speaker 1: but like I know, we're the NFL and this is
4:54
Speaker 1: the NFL season. But if you're kidding yourself, you don't
4:58
Speaker 1: think Dion has been the story of football. And now
5:01
Speaker 1: they go to play Oregon. Now what's crazy is they
5:05
Speaker 1: might lose to Oregon. Oregon's really good. They're without Travis Hunter,
5:08
Speaker 1: obviously he got injuries. To me, had a couple of weeks.
5:11
Speaker 1: The following week, they host usc and did you see
5:14
Speaker 1: what time that.
5:15
Speaker 2: Game is at?
5:16
Speaker 1: That game is at nine am local Colorado or ten
5:22
Speaker 1: am Mountain time.
5:24
Speaker 2: Like Fox is doing their pregame. Fox is gonna be there.
5:27
Speaker 1: They're gonna be at Boulder, and they're like, we're going
5:29
Speaker 1: straight from big noon kickoff to this one. They're playing
5:32
Speaker 1: it at ten am, and it's Caleb Williams, the Heisman winner,
5:36
Speaker 1: versus coach Prime and his sons and the.
5:41
Speaker 2: Crew they have.
5:42
Speaker 1: And like, as I'm watching football on Sunday and I'm
5:45
Speaker 1: on the jet Blue flight back and I fly Jet
5:49
Speaker 1: Blue if I can, if the timings work out, because
5:51
Speaker 1: they have again a lot of air travel talk with me.
5:54
Speaker 2: This is the season they have.
5:56
Speaker 1: It's not like you have the log into a Wi
5:57
Speaker 1: Fi and then work and stream. It's they have it
6:00
Speaker 1: in the back of the seat. They've got the direct ticket,
6:02
Speaker 1: which is a great thing. And I was worried that
6:04
Speaker 1: the Sunday ticket would be gone with the new deals. No, no,
6:06
Speaker 1: still there. So you're watching and then the Sean Payton
6:09
Speaker 1: game goes to overtime versus Ron Rivera. I love that matchup.
6:12
Speaker 1: Ron a great friend, Shawn a great friend. Two guys
6:14
Speaker 1: used to battle it out in the NFC South. That
6:16
Speaker 1: game goes to the final play to Hail Mary. Then
6:19
Speaker 1: a two point conversion should have been a past interference call,
6:21
Speaker 1: there wasn't crimea river We go then we go to
6:25
Speaker 1: sixty minutes and who is John worthtime sitting down with
6:28
Speaker 1: Did you see erin.
6:29
Speaker 3: H I wonder if we've mentioned him already to that
6:32
Speaker 3: coach Prime?
6:33
Speaker 1: Actually I don't know if it was in the same episode.
6:37
Speaker 1: What's the Ukrainian President's name? This is why I don't
6:39
Speaker 1: host a morning show like I'm Nate Berlason or a
6:42
Speaker 1: straight ahead Lensky. So I don't know if it was
6:46
Speaker 1: this week or last week, but someone did a thing.
6:49
Speaker 1: The Coach Prime sixty minutes interview has like ten million
6:54
Speaker 1: viewers already online, like they could like count that the
6:57
Speaker 1: Zelenski has two millions. So if you're just looking for
7:00
Speaker 1: cultural relevance, and maybe that's a statement on America's interest
7:03
Speaker 1: in Ukraine at this point, I don't know.
7:05
Speaker 2: I'm not trying to.
7:06
Speaker 1: Get political here. The NFL is gonna strike that from
7:09
Speaker 1: the podcast. I'm just saying Prime has a bigger footprint
7:13
Speaker 1: online than Zelensky right now. Although Zelensky did meet Ben
7:17
Speaker 1: Stiller and Sean Penn On that note, we're talking celebrities.
7:20
Speaker 1: Do you know that Zelenski actually was the voice of
7:23
Speaker 1: Paddington for the Ukrainian version of the Paddington Bear.
7:28
Speaker 3: They's dubbed over Paddington did the voice?
7:31
Speaker 1: Yes, he was an actor and like a comedian in
7:33
Speaker 1: a game show host before he was Zelensky. God Jason's nodding,
7:37
Speaker 1: Jason knows he knows facts. Speaking of celebrities, I don't
7:42
Speaker 1: know if Zelensky's been on hot ones, but uh, I'm
7:45
Speaker 1: not surprised if he's if his people have reached out
7:47
Speaker 1: to our host, and that's something against Lensky's six guy
7:50
Speaker 1: gets the best guess in all of sports entertainment news.
7:55
Speaker 2: I love this guy.
7:56
Speaker 1: We've become friends over the past few years and he's
7:58
Speaker 1: a diehard Bears fan.
8:00
Speaker 2: Sean Evans from Hot Ones is next.
8:06
Speaker 1: For my money, he's the best interviewer in the game.
8:09
Speaker 1: I've said it before, I'll say it to his face.
8:11
Speaker 1: He's also a diehard Chicago Bears fan and a pal
8:14
Speaker 1: of mine. From Hot Ones, Mister Sean Evans joins the
8:19
Speaker 1: season with Peter Schrager.
8:20
Speaker 4: What's up, buddy, I'm doing good, buddy, Thanks so much
8:22
Speaker 4: for having me.
8:23
Speaker 2: You're in a busy season too.
8:25
Speaker 1: As I'm doing football, you guys are filming a new season.
8:28
Speaker 1: Is it usually secret on like who you're doing your
8:31
Speaker 1: interviews with and who you guys are doing the hot
8:33
Speaker 1: Ones challenges with or do you kind of are you
8:36
Speaker 1: allowed to share who you've been working with already?
8:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we kind of.
8:40
Speaker 5: We keep it under wraps.
8:41
Speaker 4: But we do have a season premiere coming up this
8:44
Speaker 4: week and it's with in sync all five of them,
8:47
Speaker 4: and it was all five of them, all five of them,
8:49
Speaker 4: sixty wings on the table record for us, and it's
8:52
Speaker 4: an awesome episode. I can't wait for people to see it.
8:54
Speaker 1: Five different microphones or one microphone and everyone huddled around
8:58
Speaker 1: each other.
8:59
Speaker 4: Five lobs, like four booms. It was stress testing our
9:04
Speaker 4: production for sure.
9:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, justin Tim, really cool guy.
9:07
Speaker 5: Awesome guy. I've worked at them before.
9:09
Speaker 4: He's done hot ones before and yeah, but an awesome guy.
9:13
Speaker 4: Joey's done it before. So it's kind of reunited with
9:16
Speaker 4: a couple of them. But it was an awesome shoot. I
9:18
Speaker 4: can't wait for people to see it.
9:19
Speaker 2: I saw them at the VMA's.
9:21
Speaker 1: Are they like I don't know the history of like instinct,
9:23
Speaker 1: whether they've done reunions. I know Backstreet Boys is still like,
9:26
Speaker 1: is it a big deal they're back together? Is this
9:28
Speaker 1: the first time in twenty years?
9:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe they've done a Grammy appearance together or something before,
9:35
Speaker 4: but this is kind of a big cultural moment and
9:38
Speaker 4: you know, a chance to kind of look back on
9:42
Speaker 4: this crazy ride that they've been and they're all on
9:44
Speaker 4: the other side of it and all in a good headspace,
9:46
Speaker 4: and it just felt like a guy's reminiscent about the
9:49
Speaker 4: good old days. And it's an awesome episode.
9:52
Speaker 6: All right.
9:52
Speaker 1: So for the listeners who aren't aware of Sean's work,
9:55
Speaker 1: and I don't think it's embarrassing.
9:57
Speaker 2: If you're not, you might not live online. That's it.
9:59
Speaker 2: That's fine. It's an incredible show.
10:02
Speaker 1: It's twenty to thirty minutes and Sean will interview celebrity
10:07
Speaker 1: guest and the questions will get increasingly more personal and
10:12
Speaker 1: more But as they're doing that, they are eating hotter
10:15
Speaker 1: and hotter chicken wings along the way, and the chicken
10:18
Speaker 1: wings go from like a level one to the level ten.
10:21
Speaker 1: And by the end of the thing, the guests is
10:24
Speaker 1: in their most vulnerable states and they are sweating bullets,
10:27
Speaker 1: and they inevitably open up to you, and you get
10:30
Speaker 1: some of the best answers around Sean.
10:33
Speaker 2: Where did you get started? Like how did this come
10:35
Speaker 2: to be?
10:36
Speaker 1: Because your face for a lot of people was new,
10:38
Speaker 1: Like I don't know that guy from that TV show,
10:39
Speaker 1: and I don't know that guy from stand up comedy.
10:42
Speaker 1: Take us back to like post college, like and how
10:44
Speaker 1: this thing got rolling?
10:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, I went to the University of Illinois. I was
10:47
Speaker 4: broadcast dural asm major as big as I dreamed as
10:50
Speaker 4: I thought I'd graduate and then maybe get a job,
10:53
Speaker 4: hopefully as an assistant producer at ESPN one thousand or six,
10:57
Speaker 4: seven weeks four or something, and just be like a
10:59
Speaker 4: drive time morning talk like sports radio producer. That's as
11:04
Speaker 4: big as I ever dreamed. And I would always do
11:07
Speaker 4: interviews for whoever I asked me on like a freelance
11:10
Speaker 4: basis out in Chicago. And then in twenty fourteen, I
11:13
Speaker 4: was down an All Star weekend in New Orleans and
11:15
Speaker 4: had interviews like two Chains and John Wall and all
11:18
Speaker 4: these basketball players and musicians, and at that time, every
11:23
Speaker 4: magazine was becoming a YouTube channel basically, and they were like,
11:26
Speaker 4: we put these on camera just because we need just
11:30
Speaker 4: videos to put on our YouTube channels. It's like, yeah,
11:32
Speaker 4: we just need content. So I said, sure, please do
11:35
Speaker 4: that would be awesome. And then they liked them enough
11:38
Speaker 4: to offer me a full time job. So I quit
11:40
Speaker 4: what I had going on in Chicago and sold on
11:42
Speaker 4: my stuff and broke my lease. And I was in
11:45
Speaker 4: New York with four roommates, so I'd never met before,
11:48
Speaker 4: like thirty days later, and then I met Chris Schoenberger
11:52
Speaker 4: in the office and we became friends he's the GM
11:55
Speaker 4: of First We Feast. He had this idea, what if
11:58
Speaker 4: we interviewed celebrities but had the meat increasingly spicy chicken
12:01
Speaker 4: wings over the course of the interview.
12:03
Speaker 5: I thought it was genius. We hammered out a pilot.
12:06
Speaker 4: We shot a pilot with Tony Yeo, and we haven't
12:09
Speaker 4: stopped shooting him since that was almost nine years ago.
12:11
Speaker 4: And here we are twenty two seasons, over three hundred episodes.
12:14
Speaker 1: It's been three episodes, twenty two seasons, and like the
12:18
Speaker 1: star power, it's it's getting bigger and bigger. Now. Of
12:22
Speaker 1: course we've seen the cliff with like Paul Rudd and
12:25
Speaker 1: Matt Damon had that great answer with you, But like
12:27
Speaker 1: this past season, I'm watching it and it's you know,
12:31
Speaker 1: Jake Joanall, and then the next week it's Karen Colkin, Like,
12:35
Speaker 1: you guys continue to get these A list actors?
12:39
Speaker 2: Are they pitching you? Are you pitching them?
12:41
Speaker 1: Because I watched all these other shows at late night
12:44
Speaker 1: and in the mornings and like they're not getting a
12:46
Speaker 1: list anymore.
12:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, I think that's we have to be resourceful.
12:50
Speaker 4: I think that's kind of an edge for us. And
12:53
Speaker 4: we have a spreadsheet that, you know, is all of
12:56
Speaker 4: our targets, all the times that we've pitched them over
12:59
Speaker 4: like the last decade, whether the trail is warm, whether
13:01
Speaker 4: it's hot, whether it's cold, you know, all those different things.
13:04
Speaker 4: What movies do they have coming out? With things they
13:06
Speaker 4: have coming out, is it time to pitch them again
13:08
Speaker 4: if it was a little bit warmer last time, you know,
13:11
Speaker 4: and then just trying to find those dates. And yeah,
13:13
Speaker 4: it is crazy that it's gotten to the point where
13:16
Speaker 4: now I would say half of our guests are incoming
13:18
Speaker 4: and half of them are outgoing. You know, it's just
13:21
Speaker 4: us being aggressive and we can pop up the show.
13:24
Speaker 4: You know, if you're in LA we'll hop on a
13:25
Speaker 4: plane go meet up the show. Yeah, it travels. We
13:29
Speaker 4: could pop up in a garage if we want, so.
13:31
Speaker 4: I think that's been kind of an advantage for us,
13:33
Speaker 4: and we do care. I mean, that's the driving force
13:36
Speaker 4: of everything that we do, is putting on a show
13:38
Speaker 4: that people are interested in. That our fans who've been
13:41
Speaker 4: so loyal for all this time and have allowed us
13:43
Speaker 4: to have a show with such longevity, and we just
13:45
Speaker 4: try to feed that beast. So that's always the motivating
13:49
Speaker 4: driving force with everything that we do and that's what
13:51
Speaker 4: keeps us up at night. And over the years we've
13:54
Speaker 4: gotten a pretty good at it, you know, but I
13:56
Speaker 4: never take it for granted ever. You know, the guests
13:58
Speaker 4: that we've had in I think that's our crowning achievement
14:02
Speaker 4: of our show, and I'm really proud of it.
14:03
Speaker 1: It used to be you'd want to do like a
14:05
Speaker 1: magazine cover, you've got a big movie coming out, and
14:07
Speaker 1: maybe you do a junket Like now, I feel like,
14:10
Speaker 1: put me on hot Ones with Sean all two questions.
14:13
Speaker 2: It'll go viral, We'll have a.
14:14
Speaker 1: Great moment and then people will be aware of the
14:16
Speaker 1: movie that's coming out.
14:17
Speaker 4: Yeah. I think that's just shows how things have changed
14:20
Speaker 4: where those are the things that move the needle now.
14:22
Speaker 4: And you know, that's always the case that I try
14:26
Speaker 4: to make is yeah, there's this caveat where you have
14:27
Speaker 4: to eat scorching not chicken wings. But people care and
14:30
Speaker 4: they show up and they filled the auditorium and they
14:34
Speaker 4: cheer you on no matter how things go over the
14:37
Speaker 4: course of the interview, and it's a humanizing experience for
14:40
Speaker 4: celebrities who are often put out a pedestal. We all
14:43
Speaker 4: know what it's like to die on hot sauce, So
14:45
Speaker 4: it actually kind of knocks that person off that pedestal
14:48
Speaker 4: humanizes them. And it's just one of those things where
14:51
Speaker 4: I think we accidentally invented that what's it like to
14:53
Speaker 4: have a beer with that person?
14:54
Speaker 2: Show?
14:54
Speaker 4: And it's a unique look for the guests as well.
14:56
Speaker 4: So as much as that, there's kind of a drag
14:59
Speaker 4: on it where it's like, yeah, you have to eat
15:00
Speaker 4: the scorching out chicken wings. The way I look at it,
15:03
Speaker 4: I see a lot of upside.
15:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, and the wings are it's the shiny object. It's
15:09
Speaker 1: so secondary to the interviews because you're not asking typical questions.
15:12
Speaker 1: You're not telling me about it, what's this funny story?
15:14
Speaker 2: On set?
15:15
Speaker 1: You're doing your research and like deep research, and you're
15:19
Speaker 1: asking about their childhoods, their philosophies, and you must mind
15:24
Speaker 1: so much information. I think if you watch hot ones
15:27
Speaker 1: you know that, and if you don't watch it, trust
15:29
Speaker 1: me these questions. It's not like this is just your
15:31
Speaker 1: standard junket and you go deep. How do you do
15:34
Speaker 1: your research for these interviews? You have a team of
15:35
Speaker 1: guys and gals that are doing this because a lot
15:38
Speaker 1: of times you'll reference things from interviews ten years ago
15:40
Speaker 1: that they've said.
15:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean, you just try to look at
15:43
Speaker 4: everything that you possibly can, read everything that you possibly can.
15:46
Speaker 4: If they're an actor, I'll watch their movies. If they've
15:48
Speaker 4: written books, I'll read the books. If they're a musician,
15:51
Speaker 4: that'll become the soundtrack of my week, you know. And
15:54
Speaker 4: then I just try to marinate in that. I do
15:56
Speaker 4: have my little brother Gavin, who I've put out there
15:59
Speaker 4: to create these packets, these research dossier's, and Chris does
16:04
Speaker 4: it as well, and I do it, and we've just
16:06
Speaker 4: kind of kept that same process going for a really
16:08
Speaker 4: long time. There aren't that.
16:09
Speaker 5: Many chefs in the kitchen. It's just kind of us.
16:12
Speaker 4: But everybody's motivated again by that driving force to create
16:16
Speaker 4: a good show.
16:17
Speaker 5: And I think that that's what you need.
16:18
Speaker 4: If it were just people dying on hot sauce, I
16:20
Speaker 4: think the audience would have tuned out by now. It
16:22
Speaker 4: has to be an excellent interview show combined with this
16:25
Speaker 4: unique hook. Again, that's our driving force for everything.
16:28
Speaker 5: That we do, and it's kind of fun.
16:30
Speaker 4: I think I'm a naturally curious person and I really
16:33
Speaker 4: enjoy the process of walking a mile in someone else's
16:35
Speaker 4: shoes for a week, and so it never gets old
16:37
Speaker 4: for me, there's never any attrition that sets in. I
16:40
Speaker 4: really enjoy that, and honestly, what an amazing job to
16:43
Speaker 4: just even have that. You know, that can be your
16:46
Speaker 4: kind of nine to five existence. So that's it.
16:50
Speaker 5: You just try to marinate in it and then do
16:52
Speaker 5: the best that you can and.
16:54
Speaker 4: See what happens. You know.
16:56
Speaker 2: That's but I.
16:56
Speaker 4: Always think that it's important that we put an effort
17:00
Speaker 4: in for the guest because they're jumping through a lot
17:02
Speaker 4: of hoops for us, you know what I mean, Like,
17:04
Speaker 4: if it's a lazy, boring interview, then I think that's
17:07
Speaker 4: part of the reason people make it through so often
17:09
Speaker 4: and don't cut out, is because they're kind of roped
17:13
Speaker 4: in not only by this ridiculous wing stunt, but also
17:17
Speaker 4: by you know, an interview that's like, as we like
17:19
Speaker 4: to put it, the most comfortable, least comfortable.
17:22
Speaker 2: I've done my research on you.
17:23
Speaker 1: Nothing to dig up that's bad, But tell me about
17:26
Speaker 1: giving tours of Chicago architecture.
17:29
Speaker 2: Tell me about this. So that was my.
17:32
Speaker 4: Summer job from I think when I was a senior
17:35
Speaker 4: in high school all the way through college. So for
17:38
Speaker 4: all of these summers, I would just stack tours so
17:41
Speaker 4: it was a ninety minute river and lake tour and
17:44
Speaker 4: you'd have, you know, one hundred and fifty two hundred
17:46
Speaker 4: people on the boat every time. And I always think,
17:49
Speaker 4: you know, I was a broadcast journalism major, But I
17:51
Speaker 4: think the most important thing in my whole journey to
17:54
Speaker 4: being like where I am now, the most important sort
17:57
Speaker 4: of side mission was these boat tours. Because you'd be
18:00
Speaker 4: up in front of people, You'd always be doing a performance,
18:03
Speaker 4: and I think it was that that really helped the
18:06
Speaker 4: story telling, that helped the pacing, that helped build my confidence.
18:11
Speaker 4: And I would just do these tours all summer long.
18:13
Speaker 4: You'd work like six days a week. They'd be really
18:16
Speaker 4: long days that could start at eight am and end
18:19
Speaker 4: at eight pm. And I remember you'd make tips and
18:21
Speaker 4: you'd work in like these boats with so many people.
18:24
Speaker 4: I'd be just stuffing my backpack with cash every day.
18:28
Speaker 4: The best. It was the best job. And I often
18:32
Speaker 4: think that if there's one thing I could kind of
18:34
Speaker 4: go back to, like I almost think I could go
18:36
Speaker 4: back and do it.
18:36
Speaker 2: Now, to it just like I just just be free
18:39
Speaker 2: and like liberated.
18:40
Speaker 5: It was the best summer job ever ever, Ever.
18:43
Speaker 2: Do you want to know what I did? What did
18:45
Speaker 2: you do?
18:46
Speaker 4: Yeah? I am very curious.
18:47
Speaker 2: Actually, dude, I was a telemarketer.
18:49
Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, So you want to talk about you've
18:52
Speaker 1: seen the new HBO the I love that. I was
18:57
Speaker 1: a New Jersey telemarketer and it was all my boys
19:01
Speaker 1: from high school.
19:02
Speaker 2: And we just we were selling and it was.
19:05
Speaker 1: Like just the if the gap, get some on the
19:07
Speaker 1: phone and don't let them hang up, and just lead them.
19:09
Speaker 2: To this point.
19:10
Speaker 1: And all those skills you better believe I use them
19:12
Speaker 1: to say to Yeah, you have to absolutely and guess what.
19:15
Speaker 2: I would love to go back and try it and
19:17
Speaker 2: see if I can still do it.
19:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, I bet you've gotten better. You know, I'm the
19:20
Speaker 4: same with me. I bet, I bet it's a full
19:22
Speaker 4: letter grade or two better than what I had before.
19:24
Speaker 4: You know, I stopped building too early.
19:27
Speaker 1: No, you get all these celebrities in now, you and
19:31
Speaker 1: I we've built to this career whatever. Still, there's certain
19:34
Speaker 1: football players that will walk in or celebrities and I'm like,
19:36
Speaker 1: I can't believe that's really Barry Sanders like and I
19:38
Speaker 1: like want to like look them in the eyes and
19:40
Speaker 1: be like do you realize do you get af struck?
19:42
Speaker 1: I know you have everyone from Scarlett Johanson to to
19:46
Speaker 1: Jennifer Lawrence to you name the biggest stars, and like,
19:49
Speaker 1: do you get starstruck or do you just look at
19:51
Speaker 1: this as this is my job.
19:52
Speaker 2: They have to respect it. I'm in my arena.
19:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's how I look at it. I really do.
19:57
Speaker 4: I don't get starstruck. There is always the moment when
20:01
Speaker 4: they walk into the room and you see them where
20:03
Speaker 4: you get a little butterfly performance anxiety thing that's kind
20:07
Speaker 4: of fun to feel, you know, it feels.
20:09
Speaker 5: A little bit alive.
20:10
Speaker 4: So I definitely get that, But I don't get I
20:13
Speaker 4: don't think I get starstruck or anything. You know, there's
20:17
Speaker 4: just there's certain to use a football analogy. There are
20:20
Speaker 4: certain shoots that feel like playoff games, or you know,
20:23
Speaker 4: Gordon Ramsey coming in that felt like a super.
20:26
Speaker 2: Bowl because it's culinary, or because he's such a enigma.
20:31
Speaker 4: I think it's because, you know, when we first started
20:33
Speaker 4: doing the show, fans would request him at nauseum, almost
20:36
Speaker 4: to the point where it got hard to do the show.
20:37
Speaker 4: We'd announce the new guests like this week on the show,
20:40
Speaker 4: this person. All the comments would be like when are
20:41
Speaker 4: we getting Gordon Ramsey? Is this albatross going around our next?
20:45
Speaker 4: That almost made it hard to do the show. So
20:48
Speaker 4: I think it was this internet fever dream that had
20:50
Speaker 4: forced us both into the room together. And he felt
20:54
Speaker 4: it too and I felt it too. So in moments
20:55
Speaker 4: like that, it feels like maybe there's more at stake
20:59
Speaker 4: than just a regular shoot, but that overall, I think
21:03
Speaker 4: it's there's a job to do there, and I don't
21:06
Speaker 4: think being sycophantic does anything to serve an interview. So
21:10
Speaker 4: if you even do have those feelings, try to check
21:13
Speaker 4: them as much as you can and just do your job.
21:16
Speaker 5: Just do your job.
21:17
Speaker 4: That's I'll let you get it. Belichick.
21:20
Speaker 1: There's this, uh, this moment after an interview with a
21:24
Speaker 1: celebrity or an athlete, and there's like you're kind of
21:26
Speaker 1: hanging around and sometimes they'll be like, oh, I'm a
21:29
Speaker 1: fan of yours and maybe not in your case, I'm
21:31
Speaker 1: sure more than me. Uh, And there's like this moment
21:34
Speaker 1: of like are we are we friends?
21:36
Speaker 2: Yeah? Has there been one of these actors.
21:39
Speaker 1: Or athletes and things that you're like after the interview,
21:42
Speaker 1: they're like, here's my number, and you have kept up
21:44
Speaker 1: and like actually been friends with.
21:46
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, my phone is kind of bananas, you know.
21:49
Speaker 1: And then.
21:51
Speaker 4: You know, and I sometimes me and beer girls actually
21:55
Speaker 4: had a conversation about this because there's just a predy
21:57
Speaker 4: I'm similar and that you go through this ridiculous thing
22:00
Speaker 4: and almost there's this trauma bond that happens, like we've
22:04
Speaker 4: been through some stuff together, you know, and uh, I
22:07
Speaker 4: think there is a natural inclination to keep the relationship
22:13
Speaker 4: kind of going, you know what I mean, or when
22:15
Speaker 4: you see them again, there's that natural like from across
22:18
Speaker 4: the room, like my guy, Yeah, exactly.
22:20
Speaker 5: That's sort of a thing. So that's always fun to experience.
22:23
Speaker 4: And and I've actually that's how really you and I
22:26
Speaker 4: met was, you know, it was the Paul ruddshoot and
22:29
Speaker 4: hot ones and then that ends up into a friendly
22:33
Speaker 4: relationship and you know, here I am a big slick
22:36
Speaker 4: and meeting you guys. But there's so many versions of
22:39
Speaker 4: that over the years, and that's been a really valuable thing.
22:42
Speaker 4: You know. It's like almost this clubhouse that you end
22:44
Speaker 4: up in once you do hot ones, and it's it's
22:47
Speaker 4: sauce and sauce out.
22:49
Speaker 1: Who's the I guess most exclusive number in the phone,
22:52
Speaker 1: like one that you wouldn't give out or you wouldn't
22:54
Speaker 1: even feel comfortable like texting a lot of them, but
23:00
Speaker 1: you know, like would you textim like you just did
23:02
Speaker 1: this thing, would you text show we enjoyed.
23:04
Speaker 4: It, Yeah, yeah, or you just be like, hey, that
23:07
Speaker 4: was so much fun, great catching up with you again,
23:09
Speaker 4: wishing you a speedy recovery.
23:10
Speaker 5: It was great to see something like that, you know
23:12
Speaker 5: what I mean.
23:13
Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know, like Dave Grohl, and it's
23:16
Speaker 4: a lot like sometimes I'll even look at the messages
23:18
Speaker 4: and be like, this is kind of crazy, what's going
23:19
Speaker 4: on here? But it's been a blast.
23:21
Speaker 2: Yeah.
23:22
Speaker 1: Who was the surprisingly most fun interview that maybe going
23:26
Speaker 1: in you're like, I'm not sure if this guy's got
23:28
Speaker 1: the hut or gal has the biggest person to hang,
23:31
Speaker 1: but then they brought it.
23:32
Speaker 4: We did one recently with John Stamos, just a couple
23:35
Speaker 4: of seasons ago, and I don't know what I was
23:38
Speaker 4: really expecting when you know, I know that he's a
23:40
Speaker 4: fun guy and I'd enjoyed watching the interviews the ones
23:44
Speaker 4: that I did, but he came in like a whirlwind
23:46
Speaker 4: and it was the most fun I think I've ever
23:50
Speaker 4: had interview, the most the most pure fun that while
23:54
Speaker 4: it was having, while it was going on, it didn't
23:57
Speaker 4: feel like there's any call structure to it whatsoever. Yeah,
24:02
Speaker 4: it was just it was just becoming fast friends. And
24:06
Speaker 4: he called my dad and it was like, next time
24:11
Speaker 4: we played Ravinia, come watch us the Beach Boys. Like
24:14
Speaker 4: it was just so much fun. So, I mean, that's
24:17
Speaker 4: always what happens. Though. We used to kind of have
24:19
Speaker 4: a bet on how we thought it would go and
24:21
Speaker 4: way we think they'd tap out or like whatever.
24:23
Speaker 5: We stopped doing that because we're just wrong all the time.
24:25
Speaker 4: It's just it's this unique social experiment once you get
24:29
Speaker 4: the wings involved. But yeah, there's been so many of
24:32
Speaker 4: those where it was just like I had high hopes,
24:35
Speaker 4: high expectations going in, and that was just a lot
24:37
Speaker 4: more fun and better than I thought it would be.
24:40
Speaker 2: I've never met him. How is Seth Rogan?
24:42
Speaker 4: Oh, he's a fun guy. He actually gave us one
24:45
Speaker 4: of the great compliments we've ever received on the show
24:47
Speaker 4: after he did an episode. Who was like, these are
24:50
Speaker 4: not famous person hot you know, like this is this show,
24:53
Speaker 4: you know, and he's right, like it is kind of
24:55
Speaker 4: a wild, wild last crazy show. But I was That's
24:59
Speaker 4: what I take from Seth. That was one of the
25:00
Speaker 4: great backhanded compliments we've ever got.
25:03
Speaker 2: Michael Sarah was on the show, how is it?
25:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, amazing and actually up there in the pantheon
25:09
Speaker 4: the mount rushmore of people who we've served this bizarro
25:13
Speaker 4: lunch to and didn't react to the hot sauces like
25:16
Speaker 4: at all, you know, just complete yeah, yeah, yeah, you know,
25:20
Speaker 4: we're always worried about causing it harm really, you know,
25:23
Speaker 4: like that's really the thing that you know, we'll sometimes
25:25
Speaker 4: are The thing that I worry about is like when
25:27
Speaker 4: it goes spiraling out of control, and so rarely are
25:30
Speaker 4: these things where it's almost like we didn't sauce the
25:33
Speaker 4: wings for them or something, you know what I mean.
25:35
Speaker 4: And that is what I remember from that episode.
25:37
Speaker 1: I see so many different strategies and a lot of
25:39
Speaker 1: times it starts with water, then it goes to the milk.
25:42
Speaker 1: Can you talk about the milk and why people drink
25:45
Speaker 1: milk When the spicy is getting too spicy and they're
25:48
Speaker 1: freaking out, they often lunch for the milk.
25:50
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I think that it's the fat that's
25:52
Speaker 4: supposed to cut the heat or whatever that you'd have
25:55
Speaker 4: in whole milk and dairy. But I've noticed that as
25:59
Speaker 4: the guests have gotten more and more famous, the milks
26:02
Speaker 4: have become more and more exotic. You know, they're very
26:06
Speaker 4: very weird sort of you know, all mind milk sort
26:11
Speaker 4: of offshoots that I think are just like water. I'm
26:13
Speaker 4: not sure there's the fat, there's the dairy in there
26:15
Speaker 4: to cut those things, but that's I've noticed. But in
26:19
Speaker 4: my opinion, it's the it's the ice cream is the
26:22
Speaker 4: only thing that can that can really help once you're
26:24
Speaker 4: in that storm. You know, maybe a milk is maybe
26:26
Speaker 4: a sip of milk is temporarily relieving water I guess
26:31
Speaker 4: makes things worse, but psychologically I find it helpful. But yeah,
26:35
Speaker 4: the only thing that works for me is some ice cream.
26:37
Speaker 2: Who breaks out the ice cream?
26:38
Speaker 1: Haven't seen I don't think I've seen that the guys
26:41
Speaker 1: break out the ice cream.
26:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's something that we've we've gone to a
26:45
Speaker 4: little bit more recently. And then dom Our Producer will
26:48
Speaker 4: just always be standing by around Wing seven. If it
26:50
Speaker 4: looks like our guest is up up against the ropes
26:52
Speaker 4: a little bit, she'll pour a bowl of ice cream
26:54
Speaker 4: and then and then jump in like she'll give me
26:56
Speaker 4: a little give me a little like wave and I'll
26:58
Speaker 4: be like, bring in the ice cream. Yeah.
27:00
Speaker 2: Yeah. Athletes. Who's been the best athlete that you've had
27:05
Speaker 2: on that had the most fun with.
27:07
Speaker 4: The Shack episode? I think is early.
27:10
Speaker 2: On to right this season?
27:11
Speaker 4: Early on now is I mean we started stacking him.
27:14
Speaker 4: I'm not sure which season, but it was, you know,
27:16
Speaker 4: five years ago or four or five, six years ago.
27:20
Speaker 4: It's all lost in a spice dream. But that was
27:22
Speaker 4: a big episode and an amazing one. We had Israel
27:27
Speaker 4: Outasanya on.
27:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was I think martial arts, right, Yeah.
27:30
Speaker 4: Yeah. I always think that the athlete interview is one
27:33
Speaker 4: of the most difficult nuts to crack in the interview space,
27:37
Speaker 4: and that I thought he was, you know, one of
27:40
Speaker 4: the best interviews we'd have. And then you know Stone
27:43
Speaker 4: Cold Undertaker Sasha Banks in. Yeah, they're entertainers. It's like
27:50
Speaker 4: sort of sort of related a little bit.
27:53
Speaker 1: But like I get it, like you see a great
27:54
Speaker 1: football player, like, oh, he's gonna be great, and then
27:56
Speaker 1: the personality's out there, well they're great at football, they're
27:59
Speaker 1: not supposed to be.
28:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, they're paid to catch balls and score touchdowns and
28:04
Speaker 4: throw touchdowns and sack the quarter back, and so they're not.
28:08
Speaker 5: It's it's just there's no incentive there.
28:11
Speaker 1: We had fun. We go to that big Slick event.
28:14
Speaker 1: Now two years in a row. We hung out and
28:15
Speaker 1: your buddy Nick is always with you. That's my guy.
28:19
Speaker 1: We talked bears and then you're always asked to bring
28:22
Speaker 1: out the hot sauce and do a hot Ones challenge
28:25
Speaker 1: and First three Feast is there and it's this year.
28:28
Speaker 1: Mahomes and Kelsey were both a part of it. Did
28:31
Speaker 1: you get a chance to hang with either of those guys, Yeah, we've.
28:34
Speaker 4: I've worked with Travis a couple of times, and then
28:37
Speaker 4: for a while there we had social circles that were
28:40
Speaker 4: kind of in orbit of each other. So yeah, so
28:43
Speaker 4: it was good to see him. Always good to see him.
28:45
Speaker 4: And then Patrick Mahomes. Actually I was playing third, he
28:49
Speaker 4: was playing short when for Eric stone Street that groundball
28:52
Speaker 4: that he threw behind his back to first base, I
28:55
Speaker 4: remember that having a front row seat to that.
28:58
Speaker 1: You're in the clip if you watched it, you're in
29:00
Speaker 1: the background. That's why I that's your moment, that's charging
29:03
Speaker 1: that ball.
29:03
Speaker 4: And then it was just blinding in front of me
29:06
Speaker 4: and then behind the back. So better that he got
29:08
Speaker 4: that than me.
29:09
Speaker 2: Is there an NFL player you'd want to have on
29:11
Speaker 2: the show that you haven't?
29:13
Speaker 4: That's a good I mean, Tom Brady, I think I'd
29:16
Speaker 4: love to have on the show. I think the most
29:20
Speaker 4: interesting interview might be Aaron Rodgers. I don't know. I
29:24
Speaker 4: think he seems kind of has.
29:26
Speaker 2: He reached out. I feel like the two of you
29:27
Speaker 2: would hit it off.
29:28
Speaker 4: I think there was a time where maybe the teams
29:31
Speaker 4: were like flirting for a second there. You know, sometimes
29:33
Speaker 4: we call it like a little flirting where it's like,
29:35
Speaker 4: well what about these dates and blah blah blah. There
29:37
Speaker 4: was kind of like there's some mysts, some fog.
29:40
Speaker 5: But I couldn't clearly see Aaron's face there yet.
29:43
Speaker 4: He just seems like an interesting guy in an interesting interview,
29:47
Speaker 4: So he'd be at the top of the mountain for me.
29:50
Speaker 4: I'm wishing him a speedy recovery.
29:51
Speaker 2: We know who I want you to do this show with?
29:53
Speaker 1: Who?
29:53
Speaker 6: Yeah?
29:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, i'd actually I should just consult with you.
29:55
Speaker 4: You should tell me.
29:57
Speaker 1: Here's who I want on Hot Ones next season. The
30:02
Speaker 1: Hoodie himself Bill Belichick.
30:05
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, yes, Actually we've talked about that. I
30:08
Speaker 4: think we've I think we've pitched him and Saban actually,
30:13
Speaker 4: but that's like our kind of our talk right now.
30:15
Speaker 4: You know, we've done a lot of actors, so we
30:17
Speaker 4: start thinking about directors, and we've done a lot of athletes,
30:20
Speaker 4: and now we're starting to think about coaches as you
30:22
Speaker 4: widen the scope, and I agree with you. I always
30:25
Speaker 4: love it seems like once a year. You know, there's
30:27
Speaker 4: that clip where Bill Belichick got asked about long snappers
30:31
Speaker 4: and went through the whole history, you know, so it's like, wow,
30:34
Speaker 4: you know, there's obviously a well of knowledge there that
30:39
Speaker 4: it's like, yeah, if you could tap it the right way,
30:41
Speaker 4: you have one of the most compelling football interviews of
30:45
Speaker 4: anyone living.
30:46
Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I think we're waiting for the
30:49
Speaker 1: quit essential Belichick interview. And I can help you write
30:51
Speaker 1: the questions like he could.
30:52
Speaker 2: Have the third wing.
30:53
Speaker 1: And then you're like, so, Mark Bivarro tell me about
30:56
Speaker 1: his time in New York and what you know, and
30:58
Speaker 1: Belichick sweating bullets and a hoodie while talking about Mark
31:01
Speaker 1: Bavarro and why he was such a good blocker.
31:03
Speaker 4: You're hired.
31:04
Speaker 2: Let's do it. Let's do it. McVeigh. Would be fun.
31:08
Speaker 2: I think it would be like very.
31:09
Speaker 1: Like, oh man, I can't believe you got me sweating
31:11
Speaker 1: like this, bro Like, it'd be very much that. But
31:15
Speaker 1: I think that there could be an NFL version of this,
31:17
Speaker 1: And I'm sure you've talked with the NFL at length,
31:20
Speaker 1: as you've been a friend to the Shield for many
31:22
Speaker 1: years that yeah, yeah, yeah.
31:23
Speaker 4: We've done some truth or dab stuff with the Chargers
31:26
Speaker 4: the last couple of years, and they have like a
31:28
Speaker 4: really fun social team. You know, they have like it's
31:32
Speaker 4: they have a media company there that's like bigger than
31:35
Speaker 4: First We Feast, you know what I mean. It's kind
31:37
Speaker 4: of nuts to see how that all works in there.
31:39
Speaker 4: But they're super fun to work with, and yeah, I'd
31:42
Speaker 4: like to expand it out and do more. I'm obviously
31:46
Speaker 4: a huge sports fan and football in particular, so that
31:50
Speaker 4: would be amazing.
31:51
Speaker 1: All right, So before we get to some football talk,
31:54
Speaker 1: this is always the awkward part of where you're at
31:56
Speaker 1: in your career and what you have.
31:58
Speaker 2: So you've got this awesome show and it goes viral.
32:00
Speaker 2: How many times?
32:01
Speaker 1: Is like a B list celebrity like pitch you to
32:03
Speaker 1: your face and say I want to come on, and
32:05
Speaker 1: you have to like kind of dodge it and maybe
32:08
Speaker 1: maybe a little uncomfortable and explain that. Yeah, but you know,
32:12
Speaker 1: and you in your head, no, like this person's not
32:14
Speaker 1: going to ever get in that chair.
32:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know what you gotta You have to
32:19
Speaker 4: handle those things, I think delicately, because you never know,
32:23
Speaker 4: like in a couple of years they get a project here,
32:25
Speaker 4: you know, like people can go fly into the top.
32:28
Speaker 5: So I every want to be someone who had like.
32:30
Speaker 4: A charity event or whatever was kind of dismissive to somebody. Plus,
32:35
Speaker 4: who the hell am I'm a I'm a YouTuber that
32:38
Speaker 4: needs scorching hot chicken wings. You know, I'm a bigger
32:40
Speaker 4: clown than anybody. So I try to always keep that
32:43
Speaker 4: into perspective. But I guess my take is, and you're right,
32:46
Speaker 4: it does happen frequently, is to be like, yeah, for sure,
32:50
Speaker 4: do you eat spicy food?
32:51
Speaker 5: You know?
32:52
Speaker 1: I try to like go change the topic, talk about food,
32:55
Speaker 1: Talk about the food.
32:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, are you somebody who enjoys spicy wing? Now I'm
32:58
Speaker 4: giving away my whole playbook, so somebody's watching this, they'll
33:00
Speaker 4: connect the dots that I do in a person, but
33:02
Speaker 4: you know, I just do that. I'm just Midwest nice
33:05
Speaker 4: and then roll out of it. But there is a
33:07
Speaker 4: lot of Instagram dms, like people reaching out directly to me,
33:11
Speaker 4: and I'm just like, I just try to kind of
33:14
Speaker 4: almost I just ignore everything because at the end of
33:17
Speaker 4: the day, I don't even know my own schedule or
33:19
Speaker 4: what this season looks like, you know what I mean.
33:21
Speaker 4: I'm just a pac man that eats the next pebble,
33:23
Speaker 4: So when people bring stuff directly to me, I'm always like,
33:26
Speaker 4: I don't even know what to do. I'm basically an infant,
33:28
Speaker 4: you know what I mean. I don't make any decisions
33:30
Speaker 4: for myself, so I always just try to swerve it
33:35
Speaker 4: as best as I can.
33:36
Speaker 2: I guess you said something on an interview.
33:38
Speaker 1: I believe it was with part of my take that
33:40
Speaker 1: really resonated, and I thought it was good for listeners
33:42
Speaker 1: to hear too, Like they were asking what's next, what's next,
33:45
Speaker 1: and like what do you want to do next? And
33:47
Speaker 1: I think your take was basically like I love what
33:49
Speaker 1: I do. Is it crazy that I'm good doing this
33:51
Speaker 1: for the rest of my life? And I think that
33:53
Speaker 1: techn me because We're always trained in our careers to
33:56
Speaker 1: try to climb a ladder and kind of, yeah, is
33:59
Speaker 1: it okay to be satisfied with what you're doing and
34:01
Speaker 1: just saying.
34:02
Speaker 2: I love what I do.
34:02
Speaker 1: I've got an awesome job and an awesome life, and
34:04
Speaker 1: I'm pretty content.
34:06
Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean that's the way that I look at
34:08
Speaker 4: and like I was telling you my dreams and aspirations were,
34:13
Speaker 4: you know, producer of a drive time AM morning sports
34:18
Speaker 4: talk show, you know what I mean. That's as big
34:19
Speaker 4: as I've ever dream So I feel like I've kind
34:21
Speaker 4: of already done ten laps around any expectation I ever
34:24
Speaker 4: had for myself. You know, I wasn't like and so
34:27
Speaker 4: I don't know if that maybe it's like a lack
34:29
Speaker 4: of ambition or something that I'm good, you know, like
34:32
Speaker 4: all the people that I work with, I love creatively,
34:36
Speaker 4: there's nothing that really gets in my way. And to
34:40
Speaker 4: be kind of king of your castle is all that
34:43
Speaker 4: you can ask for. I had a TV short lived
34:46
Speaker 4: TV show thing for a second. Like now, if a
34:49
Speaker 4: TV offer came in, I'd be kind of I'd be
34:52
Speaker 4: suspicious of it more than anything, like, more than seeing
34:54
Speaker 4: it as an opportunity.
34:55
Speaker 5: I just I kind of love the rhythm.
34:58
Speaker 4: That I'm in and the track that I'm on, and
35:01
Speaker 4: I don't look around at anybody and think I wish
35:04
Speaker 4: I had that, or I would want that. I don't.
35:06
Speaker 4: There's nobody that i'd trade with. So in my head,
35:09
Speaker 4: I'm like, I could do this for a really long time. Now.
35:12
Speaker 5: Obviously that's not necessarily.
35:15
Speaker 4: In your control, and we're all just clinkle balls bouncing
35:18
Speaker 4: through this whole thing, and so I never think like
35:21
Speaker 4: that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to lock
35:23
Speaker 4: into this for a long time. But I'm happy, and
35:26
Speaker 4: I don't look at anything else and see a way
35:28
Speaker 4: to be happier.
35:29
Speaker 5: So I'm I really like what I'm doing.
35:32
Speaker 4: I don't aspire necessarily to anything bigger. I just I
35:36
Speaker 4: don't even need to like, I don't know, I just
35:39
Speaker 4: I don't need to get any bigger in any way.
35:41
Speaker 4: I'm just very happy with the thing I have now
35:44
Speaker 4: and I'm appreciative of it, and I don't really see
35:48
Speaker 4: there's no motivation to change things right now at the moment.
35:51
Speaker 1: Well used to be used to be like all right,
35:54
Speaker 1: so something like this would be like all right, we'll
35:56
Speaker 1: have a late night talk show. But yeah, I think
35:58
Speaker 1: culturally cultural relevance, bro, I think Hot Ones is bigger
36:02
Speaker 1: than those night shows right now.
36:04
Speaker 4: Well and two it's like, yeah, those shows, that's a
36:08
Speaker 4: that's a that's a grind, you know, to do that
36:10
Speaker 4: every single night, you know.
36:13
Speaker 5: And I don't look at that and be like, oh,
36:16
Speaker 5: that's like a life that I want.
36:17
Speaker 4: Or even on the interview, you know, you work through
36:19
Speaker 4: three guests every night or whatever, you know, And I
36:22
Speaker 4: would even my style and my preference is into like
36:25
Speaker 4: really marinate with something for a while, try to get
36:28
Speaker 4: a grasp on who this person or who this artist is,
36:32
Speaker 4: and then try to execute an interview against that. I
36:34
Speaker 4: don't I wouldn't want to be in in that sort
36:36
Speaker 4: of assembly line like next guest up, next guest up,
36:39
Speaker 4: next guest up, sort of car wash version of doing interviews.
36:42
Speaker 4: So yeah, I don't look at that necessarily either.
36:45
Speaker 3: You know.
36:46
Speaker 4: So I don't know.
36:47
Speaker 5: Just as long as the stomach lining holds up, I
36:50
Speaker 5: think I'm good.
36:51
Speaker 2: And that's the thing.
36:52
Speaker 1: There's like a physicality to what you do, and it's
36:54
Speaker 1: it's not Joey Chestnut, it's not uh, you know, you're
36:58
Speaker 1: not the guy was his name who did the man
37:00
Speaker 1: versus foodles his.
37:01
Speaker 2: Name Richmond Richmond.
37:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, like you're.
37:05
Speaker 1: Not that but one so weak or however, Robin, you
37:07
Speaker 1: and you're in these hot wings and you're able to
37:09
Speaker 1: do it. Obviously you've trained yourself to be able to
37:11
Speaker 1: do it. Is it everywhere you go in public someone
37:15
Speaker 1: asking you to, you know, try a wing or do
37:17
Speaker 1: a hot time?
37:19
Speaker 2: Is there a lot of that?
37:19
Speaker 1: Like can you go through the airport these days without
37:21
Speaker 1: people hounding you to, like, you know, put hot.
37:23
Speaker 4: sALS on time. I'm kind of normal. I'm like normal
37:27
Speaker 4: looking enough that I can rip through an airport. I
37:29
Speaker 4: think sometimes my recognizability because of how viral the clips
37:33
Speaker 4: have gone or sometimes bigger than my profile, and it
37:36
Speaker 4: can sneak up on me in weird ways every once
37:38
Speaker 4: in a while. But yeah, usually if I go to
37:41
Speaker 4: a restaurant at a decent percentage, wings will.
37:46
Speaker 5: Come out from the kitchen, like you know this is
37:48
Speaker 5: from the kitchen.
37:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, That'll happen a lot or whatever.
37:52
Speaker 4: If they make a spicy dish, like that'll come out
37:55
Speaker 4: like I'm always trying to chase the spice. But but
37:58
Speaker 4: that's it's also love and and you kind of you
38:01
Speaker 4: are what people think you are in this business, so
38:04
Speaker 4: totally whatever I try to, I try to embrace it all,
38:07
Speaker 4: even though, like I'm good on the spicy food off
38:09
Speaker 4: the clock.
38:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, let's let's go to a couple of years
38:13
Speaker 1: ago NFL Draft.
38:15
Speaker 2: The Bears are on the clock.
38:16
Speaker 7: With the forty eighth pick. In the twenty twenty two
38:20
Speaker 7: NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select Jaikwan Brisker, defensive back
38:26
Speaker 7: Penn State.
38:27
Speaker 1: Jaquan Brisker selected by the Chicago Bears via Sean Evans.
38:33
Speaker 2: What was it like?
38:34
Speaker 4: So that was in Vegas. I remember they have this
38:37
Speaker 4: massive green room, you know, and they have all those
38:40
Speaker 4: kind of like fake living rooms for the guys that
38:42
Speaker 4: are being drafted, and all there's families are out and stuff.
38:45
Speaker 4: So I remember walking through that and then you'll look
38:48
Speaker 4: to your left and see Keegan Michael Key, and then
38:51
Speaker 4: you'll look to your right and see Sebastian Manescalgo.
38:54
Speaker 5: And then you'll look behind you and see Barry Sanders.
38:57
Speaker 4: You know, that massive green room that's kind of like
39:00
Speaker 4: an emptied out ikea, and there's so much going on,
39:03
Speaker 4: you know, that's kind of a whirlwind. And then I remember, uh,
39:07
Speaker 4: you get backstage and I guess, you know, the one
39:09
Speaker 4: thing that you worry about is is because you don't
39:12
Speaker 4: really know who you're gonna It's not like you can
39:14
Speaker 4: study it the night before whatever. They just give you
39:16
Speaker 4: a card and then shove you out on stage to
39:18
Speaker 4: do the pick. So I guess the anxiety that I
39:20
Speaker 4: had that I'd get some sort of five syllable last name.
39:24
Speaker 5: You know that that was the thing.
39:25
Speaker 2: That kid's moment you don't want to screw on moment.
39:28
Speaker 4: That's what I exactly. That's the responsibility I felt for.
39:31
Speaker 4: Not that I'd look like an idiot, that's part of it,
39:34
Speaker 4: but yeah, that I you know, I'm permanently messing up
39:36
Speaker 4: this this dude's moment. So I got the card and
39:39
Speaker 4: said Jakwan Brisker Defensive backpen Stadium, Like that's an easy
39:42
Speaker 4: enough name. Then I went out there and I remember
39:45
Speaker 4: it was in Vegas and kind of outdoor, and I
39:48
Speaker 4: remember it looking like a scene out of three hundred
39:50
Speaker 4: or something. There was like some sort of like smoky
39:52
Speaker 4: mist that was rising above the crowd. Is all these
39:55
Speaker 4: like the raucous NFL fans that go to be boots
39:58
Speaker 4: on ground at draft, you know.
40:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, words said, yeah, yeah.
40:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a fun time.
40:05
Speaker 4: And then I remember, you just get on there and
40:09
Speaker 4: try not to mess up the moment. And I was
40:12
Speaker 4: like a little quicker on the dry. I saw a brand.
40:14
Speaker 4: He had a whole production, you know. I saw that
40:17
Speaker 4: he had like the wings in his pocket and stuff.
40:19
Speaker 4: I was a little more grand opening, grand.
40:22
Speaker 5: Closing, but hit the name walked off and then, you.
40:25
Speaker 4: Know, as much as the Bears have been painful, I
40:31
Speaker 4: do believe.
40:32
Speaker 5: In Jaquan Brisker, you know.
40:33
Speaker 4: I think that he had a good rookie campaign and
40:36
Speaker 4: I like the way that he plays, and I'll forever
40:40
Speaker 4: watch him and follow him and root for him. It
40:42
Speaker 4: was a cool moment, for sure.
40:44
Speaker 2: It is pretty cool.
40:45
Speaker 1: You have a special connection him for the rest of
40:46
Speaker 1: your lives, Like you named him on the microphone when
40:49
Speaker 1: he when his biggest moment of his career, you know,
40:52
Speaker 1: was commenced.
40:53
Speaker 2: It was pretty cool. I thought you were great.
40:55
Speaker 1: What are those conversations in the green room, like are
40:57
Speaker 1: you bouncing? Are you talking to you introducing yourself or
40:59
Speaker 1: I feel comf to you, Like when I hear Barry
41:01
Speaker 1: Sanders and Sebastian Man of scalcol I'm like, this is
41:03
Speaker 1: some melting potman.
41:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I talked to Keegan for a while.
41:11
Speaker 4: Derek Waters, who did Drunk History, I was back there
41:14
Speaker 4: chatting with him for a long time. I had my
41:17
Speaker 4: buddy Dustin Pourier back there. He was doing the Saints pick,
41:21
Speaker 4: so I get to chat with him, and yeah, you
41:23
Speaker 4: just kind of look around and lock eyes and do
41:27
Speaker 4: some chats and talk football with everybody back there, and
41:30
Speaker 4: it was it was a cool experience. Really.
41:33
Speaker 2: You get a chance to talk to commission at Goodell.
41:35
Speaker 2: I know he's usually back there too, but he was.
41:37
Speaker 4: He was super busy. But when I was backstage waiting
41:41
Speaker 4: before they kind of shove you out there, I do
41:43
Speaker 4: remember like looking up and directly to my left is
41:47
Speaker 4: like Roger Goodell. You know, he had a lot of
41:48
Speaker 4: plate spinning. So I didn't I didn't tap him on
41:50
Speaker 4: the shoulder, introduce myself as the Chicken wing guy or anything,
41:53
Speaker 4: but I was like you, I did turn and he
41:55
Speaker 4: was just like right there.
41:56
Speaker 2: All right.
41:57
Speaker 1: So you live in New York City full time, but
41:58
Speaker 1: you're in La a bunch. I'm sure you go back
42:00
Speaker 1: to Chicago, Like, what's your Sunday Bears viewing ritual. Do
42:04
Speaker 1: you like block out Sundays or how are you guys
42:06
Speaker 1: checking the score on the phone? Like how hardcore do
42:09
Speaker 1: you get in a typical Sunday to watch the Bears?
42:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, we'll see if I can keep the pace,
42:14
Speaker 4: but I have that is part of the ritually. All
42:17
Speaker 4: Like I like to on a Sunday morning, wake up
42:20
Speaker 4: and go to the gym around nine and get home
42:24
Speaker 4: around eleven thirty, and you know, make a nice breakfast
42:28
Speaker 4: sandwich and you know, get like a nice brunch spread going,
42:31
Speaker 4: and then fire up red Zone or the Bears game,
42:34
Speaker 4: whatever happens first. And it is ritualistic and sedentary.
42:39
Speaker 5: And I like to just melt into the couch and watch.
42:43
Speaker 4: A whole day of football whenever I can, whenever I
42:45
Speaker 4: have that chance on a weekend when things aren't super busy.
42:49
Speaker 4: It's one of my favorite pleasures of fall. I love
42:53
Speaker 4: doing that whenever I get the chance.
42:55
Speaker 1: All right, Well, in June, you and I were together
42:58
Speaker 1: at this charity event, the Big Slick, and your buddy
43:01
Speaker 1: Nick is hardcore Bears also, and you guys pulled me aside,
43:04
Speaker 1: and Nick was like almost like adorable. He was so
43:09
Speaker 1: optimistic and he was so excited and he's.
43:12
Speaker 2: Like we He's like we we we.
43:15
Speaker 1: Signed Nate Davis as an offensive lineman.
43:19
Speaker 2: And like Fields is gonna be an MVP candidate. And
43:23
Speaker 2: I wasn't.
43:24
Speaker 1: I wasn't being an ass, but I just said to
43:27
Speaker 1: you guys, straight face, really, I lost.
43:30
Speaker 2: The last ten games of the season, and I'm not sure.
43:33
Speaker 1: Justin Field showed me that he's gonna be sure enough
43:35
Speaker 1: for two weeks in and I'm gonna play another clip
43:37
Speaker 1: and I'm sorry to do it. Here's Justin field'sturing an
43:40
Speaker 1: inexplicable pick six Sunday against the Buccaneers in zone that
43:47
Speaker 1: set the fighting at the goal line, brought pick six
43:52
Speaker 1: that just fight sale that they owe for Tampa. Dude,
43:56
Speaker 1: you're owing to look at the worst team in football
43:59
Speaker 1: two weeks into this as we look across the next
44:02
Speaker 1: few months, and your excitement level for the Chicago Bears,
44:05
Speaker 1: how are we feeling about the team from the Windy City.
44:09
Speaker 4: So for me, and you know, you can like put
44:12
Speaker 4: plural teams from Windy City, you know, like I roll
44:15
Speaker 4: Bears season into Bulls season into White Sox season, and
44:20
Speaker 4: that has been like a sports fans version of the
44:23
Speaker 4: Human Centipede, where you know, one team leaves a giant
44:26
Speaker 4: stink behind, the next team swallows it up, leaves an
44:29
Speaker 4: even bigger stink behind, and this sort of thing has
44:32
Speaker 4: been going on. This steam train has rolled uninterrupted for
44:38
Speaker 4: like a decade plus. You know, it's getting insane. So
44:41
Speaker 4: I think that's that's where you see the patients of
44:44
Speaker 4: Bears fans being tested, because it's like we've seen this
44:46
Speaker 4: movie over and over and over again. We're just caught
44:51
Speaker 4: in this death time loop and I think what is
44:55
Speaker 4: and it just never stops, and then you can almost
44:57
Speaker 4: you can almost see the next chapter of it where
44:59
Speaker 4: it's like they're the worst team, and then they draft
45:02
Speaker 4: Caleb Williams and we're on another two year development timetable,
45:07
Speaker 4: only to find out in year three that we can't
45:09
Speaker 4: develop him either. You know, like that's the movie that
45:12
Speaker 4: just plays over and over and over again, and then
45:16
Speaker 4: it's cold. It's it's added to by like all of
45:19
Speaker 4: the teams kind of doing this and ending up in
45:21
Speaker 4: this never taking a step forward, only two steps backward.
45:24
Speaker 2: I mean, it's gotta be.
45:27
Speaker 1: Now. Yeah, I was thinking there'll be one in one
45:31
Speaker 1: or there'll be two and Oh you look at that,
45:32
Speaker 1: You're like Green Bay Home with Jordan Love and a
45:34
Speaker 1: bunch of unknowned receivers and then the Buccaneers without Tom Brady.
45:38
Speaker 2: I'm not trying to be like.
45:39
Speaker 4: This, like this main guy, but oh and two No,
45:43
Speaker 4: I mean I just kind of I'm resigned to the
45:45
Speaker 4: fact that I just root for unseerious teams, you know
45:48
Speaker 4: what I mean. Like that's kind of where I've kind
45:51
Speaker 4: of had to, you know, in order to not react
45:53
Speaker 4: to it emotionally, the sort of place that you have
45:56
Speaker 4: to put yourself in. And uh yeah, I mean I
45:58
Speaker 4: think even that the organization is kind of on their
46:02
Speaker 4: heels about how bad things are, you know what I mean,
46:05
Speaker 4: Like they don't even really have a good you know,
46:07
Speaker 4: they'll say like New Era and this and that. But
46:10
Speaker 4: to me, you know, you talk about the movie replaying
46:12
Speaker 4: itself that week one, it almost really did feel like
46:15
Speaker 4: remember when Naggy like were the Fedora and the.
46:18
Speaker 2: Suit for that, Yeah, one's gonna be a Georgia Pallace.
46:23
Speaker 4: It gets blown out and then that's kind of the
46:25
Speaker 4: beginning of the end. And I caught the same vibes
46:28
Speaker 4: like Poles kind of like pacing the field like he's
46:31
Speaker 4: the lion, like taking on his kingdom, you know, like that,
46:34
Speaker 4: and then they go and just come out flat and
46:36
Speaker 4: like are observably goofy, you know what I mean, Like
46:40
Speaker 4: that that whole thing has just gotten so old you
46:43
Speaker 4: think that you know them or one of these teams
46:46
Speaker 4: would just like accidentally get it right. But that's sort
46:50
Speaker 4: of where we are, where it's kind of like been
46:53
Speaker 4: you know, like even the hope that you had, you know,
46:56
Speaker 4: there's just not much that's irredeemable from these first two weeks.
46:59
Speaker 4: And you know, what choice do you have but to
47:03
Speaker 4: stand by your man. And I'll still watch and I'll
47:07
Speaker 4: still route, and on every new regime and every new change,
47:11
Speaker 4: I'll chug all the cool aid and I'll get my
47:13
Speaker 4: hopes up and then I'll get stomped out again. And
47:16
Speaker 4: thus that's the plate of a Chicago sports fan officially,
47:20
Speaker 4: especially these days. And I'm resigned. I'm resigned to that reality.
47:23
Speaker 4: It's okay, it's USUARS fan meme. That's just like when
47:27
Speaker 4: he's like, yeah, like that, I'm just like that all
47:30
Speaker 4: the time.
47:30
Speaker 2: Now, were you alive?
47:32
Speaker 1: I mean it was eighty five, but like, were you
47:33
Speaker 1: alive for now like you were too young.
47:36
Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I've never. I've never. I've they had the
47:39
Speaker 5: one Bears.
47:40
Speaker 4: Called Super Bowl when I was in college with the
47:43
Speaker 4: Colts that they lost. But yeah, no, in my life,
47:45
Speaker 4: I'm I'm approaching my uh, I'm approaching forty over here,
47:49
Speaker 4: and I've I've never seen the Bears win a Super Bowl.
47:52
Speaker 5: I don't know.
47:53
Speaker 4: It's not like I look around the look around the
47:55
Speaker 4: corner and see any daylight either.
47:57
Speaker 2: You know, this might be the year.
48:01
Speaker 5: There's nothing to.
48:04
Speaker 1: You and I have become friends. But one thing that
48:07
Speaker 1: we really bonded on was our love for Howard.
48:10
Speaker 8: Stern and love for Richards salca Vernale and like, yes,
48:15
Speaker 8: when you were growing up, I'm the same way, dude,
48:17
Speaker 8: listen to Mike and the Mad Dog every day on
48:19
Speaker 8: the way home from school and I'll just leave it on.
48:22
Speaker 2: And I listened to Stern in the morning on the
48:23
Speaker 2: way to school.
48:24
Speaker 1: And now, whether or not you're a fan of Howard's
48:25
Speaker 1: Turn or not, there's no doubt that he is one
48:27
Speaker 1: of the greatest celebrity interviewers of all time. Your influences
48:32
Speaker 1: as a kid, as an adult, as you got into
48:35
Speaker 1: this space where I think truly. I'm not just blowing
48:38
Speaker 1: smoke up your ass. I think I think truly you
48:39
Speaker 1: got the crown. I think watching your interviews with celebrities
48:42
Speaker 1: there it was like Charlie Rose and it's Sean Evans
48:45
Speaker 1: now like that you're the dude.
48:47
Speaker 4: Well, thanks, Peter. I'm not sure I deserve that, but
48:50
Speaker 4: I appreciate the compliment. And you're right, you know, like
48:53
Speaker 4: to be a kid and uh be kind of raised
48:57
Speaker 4: by the Howard Stern Show and Loveline and David Letterman. Yeah,
49:03
Speaker 4: it's I think you don't flying in there, Corolla and
49:06
Speaker 4: Drew Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'd listen to that every single night.
49:09
Speaker 5: That's probably the most important show to me. You know.
49:13
Speaker 4: I think that's actually what kind of even pushed me
49:15
Speaker 4: into thinking about radio is is that was That was
49:18
Speaker 4: a show that every night from ten to midnight on
49:21
Speaker 4: Q one oh one. That was a that was a
49:23
Speaker 4: pointment listening to me every night.
49:25
Speaker 1: So like you hear, like, have you ever met Corolla,
49:27
Speaker 1: Stern or letter Yeah, yeah.
49:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, I've met Adam, He's done the show. I've done
49:32
Speaker 4: his show, uh, Jimmy as well, and then same as
49:37
Speaker 4: I've been to some events and seeing him there and
49:39
Speaker 4: rechat and then haven't met Dave yet, haven't met Howard.
49:44
Speaker 4: But Stamo said that he sent the Hot Ones episode
49:48
Speaker 4: to Howard and that Howard said it was it was
49:51
Speaker 4: a good interview. So so I know that at least
49:53
Speaker 4: it's it's touched his it's touched his world.
49:55
Speaker 5: A little bit, you know. So now we just gotta
49:57
Speaker 5: gotta get Dave.
49:58
Speaker 1: You say Stamos, And it's funny because you say Staymos
50:01
Speaker 1: and obviously full house, and then you go through all
50:03
Speaker 1: the different you know things, and I immediately think of well,
50:05
Speaker 1: John Stamos as a friend of Howard Stern.
50:07
Speaker 2: Like that's how I think of John stay monks. I'm like,
50:09
Speaker 2: he's in the Stern world.
50:10
Speaker 1: And that's with our connection of Howard. But we got
50:13
Speaker 1: to meet Richard Christy. And if you're listening right now
50:15
Speaker 1: and you're like, I'm here for football, who's Richard Christy.
50:18
Speaker 1: Richard Christy is a character and an amazing guy on
50:21
Speaker 1: The Howard Stern Show. And with all these different celebrities
50:23
Speaker 1: in the room, and you've got Darius Rucker and you've
50:26
Speaker 1: got you know, legends of comedy, and you've got Mahomes
50:29
Speaker 1: and Kelsey you and I.
50:30
Speaker 2: Were just obsessed with talking to Richard Christy, and I
50:33
Speaker 2: loved him. Richard Christy was amazing.
50:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, every we cornered him in that suite and just
50:42
Speaker 4: talked to him about print calls until like three o'clock
50:44
Speaker 4: in the morning, and then the next day. I probably
50:47
Speaker 4: annoyed him by the end of the weekend because like,
50:49
Speaker 4: I want to pull up and I'd see a seat
50:51
Speaker 4: next to Richard, I just PLoP down next to him
50:54
Speaker 4: and just bombard him with even more questions about tradio.
50:58
Speaker 4: You know, I would just be like, but uh, what
51:01
Speaker 4: a fun guy and a very sweet guy and disturbed
51:04
Speaker 4: comedic genius for sure.
51:06
Speaker 1: Stir comm and a great drummer to boot Earth iceed
51:11
Speaker 1: Earth Sean, Thank you, dude.
51:13
Speaker 2: It took an hour of your time, so appreciate it.
51:16
Speaker 1: Anywhere we can find these if people are listening to
51:19
Speaker 1: the first time in their football fans that are not
51:20
Speaker 1: necessarily in touch with the Hot Ones and the first
51:24
Speaker 1: wee Feast crew.
51:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, just Hot Ones. New episodes come out every Thursday
51:30
Speaker 4: at eleven am Eastern season premiere actually this Thursday for
51:35
Speaker 4: season twenty two, within sync, So if you're at all interested,
51:39
Speaker 4: that's where to find it you.
51:40
Speaker 1: Too awesome and go Bears, Go Bears, Bear Down, Let's go,
51:44
Speaker 1: Let's go.
51:46
Speaker 2: Thanks dude, all right, that's Sean Evans. Great dude, right er.
51:50
Speaker 3: Oh, I loved him. I don't think I've ever seen
51:53
Speaker 3: him in an interview before. It was cool to see
51:55
Speaker 3: him on the other side.
51:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's funny.
51:57
Speaker 1: I recognized him obviously when we did this big slick thing,
52:01
Speaker 1: and then I was a big fan of some of
52:02
Speaker 1: the interviews he's done. And then we start talking to
52:05
Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I love this guy and I get it,
52:07
Speaker 1: like he's totally authentic.
52:08
Speaker 2: He's cool.
52:08
Speaker 1: Now the rud story, which is interesting obviously, you know
52:11
Speaker 1: all the memes about look at Us and all this stuff.
52:14
Speaker 1: So Paul Rudd and I became friends, and then he
52:17
Speaker 1: was promoting I think the show that was on Netflix
52:20
Speaker 1: where it's he does a clone of himself called Living
52:23
Speaker 1: with Yourself. Yeah, and his son was in high school
52:27
Speaker 1: or something and was like, are you gonna do hot ones?
52:29
Speaker 1: He's like, I don't know what that is, and he's like,
52:31
Speaker 1: watch a couple of these, watched it and did it
52:34
Speaker 1: based on his son, saying this is what people watch now,
52:36
Speaker 1: like it's not, and that's by far the most viral
52:41
Speaker 1: you know, interview that Paul's done, and he's done all
52:43
Speaker 1: the stuff with Conan and stuff. But like, in prepping
52:46
Speaker 1: for this, I go back, like, you know, he's really good,
52:49
Speaker 1: Like Scarlett Johanson and him like have a great chemistry,
52:51
Speaker 1: and then Jennifer Lawrence did have a great chemistry. It's
52:53
Speaker 1: not easy not knowing these people getting in a room
52:56
Speaker 1: and then immediately hitting it off with them and then
52:58
Speaker 1: being so cool and so down to earth and putting
53:01
Speaker 1: their guards down.
53:01
Speaker 2: I really enjoy watching the show. I watch it with
53:04
Speaker 2: my wife sometimes.
53:04
Speaker 1: And she's like, I can't watch because all the hot
53:07
Speaker 1: like the hot sauce, and I almost think that's like,
53:08
Speaker 1: I don't want to say it's a gimmick, but it's
53:10
Speaker 1: almost a side show to the great questions he's asking.
53:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's the I mean, I think you said
53:15
Speaker 3: it perfectly in the interview. It's the secondary part. It's
53:18
Speaker 3: it's the vehicle that gets you to the conversation. And
53:22
Speaker 3: if someone was like I have no interest in spicy food,
53:25
Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. That's not what this show's about. That's
53:27
Speaker 3: just like an ornament that's around it.
53:29
Speaker 2: It's great. Yeah, the stuff that I love. It's like
53:32
Speaker 2: behind the seeds.
53:33
Speaker 1: How many people go up to him like I want
53:34
Speaker 1: to come on the show, and then him had me
53:36
Speaker 1: to navigate those waters vegue.
53:37
Speaker 2: He's never been asked that before.
53:38
Speaker 1: But like, I know a lot of people in my
53:41
Speaker 1: world who are self involved and think very much van
53:44
Speaker 1: I'm not talking about any colleagues. I'm just saying like
53:45
Speaker 1: sports media who probably think they will. And I'm sure
53:48
Speaker 1: Sean Evans is like.
53:49
Speaker 4: Ah, we're good.
53:50
Speaker 2: Yeah.
53:51
Speaker 3: Is that why you haven't returned to any of my
53:52
Speaker 3: calls when I keep asking when you're gonna have me
53:54
Speaker 3: on the pregame show?
53:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, that's right, We're bringing you on. Sean
53:58
Speaker 2: was great.
53:58
Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna bring on another guest in a second.
54:06
Speaker 2: All right.
54:06
Speaker 1: So for the first season of this podcast, I was
54:10
Speaker 1: looking for like our our niche, our thing, and we
54:14
Speaker 1: tried everything from like talking analytics and then another time
54:17
Speaker 1: it would be like, all right, let's break down five
54:19
Speaker 1: things you need to know for this weekend.
54:21
Speaker 2: Nothing was clicking.
54:22
Speaker 1: And then at the end of last season I started
54:25
Speaker 1: detailing my travel horror stories and the response was insane.
54:31
Speaker 1: People around the league, NFL people, broadcasters, everyone came out
54:35
Speaker 1: of the woodwork to be like, oh.
54:36
Speaker 2: I could top that.
54:37
Speaker 1: I've got one where I had to lay over in
54:38
Speaker 1: Columbus to get to Atlanta. Then I got to Atlanta
54:41
Speaker 1: and I had to take a car to Birmingham, and
54:43
Speaker 1: I think we found our thing. Last week I told
54:45
Speaker 1: a travel horror story that was so horrific that I'm
54:50
Speaker 1: still scarred ten days later, and I told the story
54:54
Speaker 1: on the podcast.
54:56
Speaker 2: And I didn't just get one text or two.
54:59
Speaker 1: No one wanted to talk about my interview with Hanka's
55:02
Speaker 1: Area about Aaron Rodgers. No one wanted to talk about
55:05
Speaker 1: my analysis of what's next for the Jets and Zach Wilson.
55:08
Speaker 2: I got like.
55:08
Speaker 1: Fifty texts of people responding to the travel horror story
55:13
Speaker 1: I had going to LA last weekend. And one of
55:17
Speaker 1: those texts was from one of my dearest friends, a
55:20
Speaker 1: guy I've known for twenty years. He's my buddy, Jay,
55:24
Speaker 1: and he said I can top that, and then some Jay,
55:29
Speaker 1: Welcome to the season with Peter Schrager.
55:31
Speaker 2: How are you doing this morning?
55:33
Speaker 6: Thank you so much for having me on under these
55:36
Speaker 6: circumstances too, I'm doing fine. Frankly, I'm not a travel complainer.
55:42
Speaker 6: I put this out of my mind. This is from July,
55:45
Speaker 6: but I tuned in last week for the Jets Commiseration
55:48
Speaker 6: podcasts because I needed some uplifting at something uplifting there,
55:53
Speaker 6: and I was triggered by this man. I heard this,
55:56
Speaker 6: and I said, it brought back these memories that I
55:58
Speaker 6: put away. But I think I had the travel story
56:02
Speaker 6: to top all of them.
56:03
Speaker 1: And it's a two part all right, So let's first come.
56:07
Speaker 1: I am typically okay. I have rules. I will never
56:10
Speaker 1: tweet or instagram or post about my travel woes. I
56:14
Speaker 1: will never complain about them because I always say disclaimer,
56:18
Speaker 1: my flights are paid for, it's for work.
56:22
Speaker 2: I'm not complaining. I'm just sharing what it is.
56:26
Speaker 1: On the other side, it's not just all hair and
56:29
Speaker 1: makeup and roses. There's this stuff too, yours though, this
56:33
Speaker 1: is out of your own pocket.
56:35
Speaker 2: Why don't you take it away? Jay?
56:37
Speaker 6: All right, yeah, this is out of my own pocket.
56:39
Speaker 6: This is a family trip.
56:41
Speaker 2: My family already already I'm sick.
56:45
Speaker 6: I have a family of five. I have a nine
56:47
Speaker 6: year old, a seven year old, and a one year old. Right,
56:50
Speaker 6: and so we decide we're going to go this summer
56:53
Speaker 6: to France, and we're going to meet up with my
56:55
Speaker 6: brother's family who lives in Florida, a family of five,
56:58
Speaker 6: my parents, my sister. There's thirteen people. So so just
57:03
Speaker 6: to just take a step back, am I allowed to
57:05
Speaker 6: say the name of the one?
57:08
Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah you can.
57:09
Speaker 6: Well, they don't deserve my discretion anyway. This is United Airlines,
57:13
Speaker 6: So so those of us who live in Brooklyn, like
57:21
Speaker 6: we do, we booked a flight on United. The rest
57:23
Speaker 6: of them booked a flight on Delta JFK. So it
57:27
Speaker 6: was just my own way.
57:28
Speaker 1: You go to Newark, you think it's quicker New Work
57:31
Speaker 1: because of the Arizona.
57:32
Speaker 6: That's what you thought it was quicker in New Wark.
57:34
Speaker 6: I had some United points. I figured let's just bundle
57:37
Speaker 6: this up right.
57:37
Speaker 1: Okay, every detail matters when we're doing this, by the way,
57:40
Speaker 1: so don't ever feel shy of sharing every detail. Brooklyn's
57:43
Speaker 1: on the southern tip of Brooklyn, so it's closer geographically,
57:46
Speaker 1: you're avoiding the traffic to JFK.
57:48
Speaker 6: It's about the same on a Tuesday when school ends.
57:52
Speaker 6: This was the easiest way to do it. So it's
57:54
Speaker 6: my family of fount and my sister. Right, So we
57:57
Speaker 6: have these flights in United and we're going out on
57:59
Speaker 6: a Tuesday, and this is the flight there. My brother's
58:02
Speaker 6: Chami's leaving me an hour later. We're all going to
58:05
Speaker 6: be up in Paris. Is going to be a little
58:06
Speaker 6: wonder full French vacation together. And so wake up in
58:10
Speaker 6: the morning seven to thirty am. We get that dreaded
58:13
Speaker 6: text from United. Your flight has been canceled.
58:17
Speaker 2: Not the wady canceled out of.
58:20
Speaker 6: The canceled right at the game. We're canceled. The reason
58:24
Speaker 6: was the pilots have to sleep some you've heard that one,
58:27
Speaker 6: right nine.
58:28
Speaker 2: I learned about it the nine hours new to me.
58:30
Speaker 2: I love pilots. I didn't know this really existed.
58:32
Speaker 6: So they direct you to the United app to find
58:35
Speaker 6: your replacement flight. Right, So I go on the app
58:38
Speaker 6: with my wife. We're trying to figure it out. The
58:40
Speaker 6: flight they offer is on Saturday evening in.
58:43
Speaker 4: DC Tuesday, Tuesday, Saturday.
58:49
Speaker 6: From so obviously we can get on the phone. We
58:52
Speaker 6: call them, We get on their app and chat them.
58:55
Speaker 6: There was just the same music. We look over and
58:58
Speaker 6: over again. We have four phones going. Six hours later,
59:02
Speaker 6: we get through and we respond to simply because I
59:07
Speaker 6: figured that United they have the Star alliance with other
59:09
Speaker 6: airlines that might have options. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow, whatever
59:13
Speaker 6: it is, we'll get there. And they basically reiterate, you
59:16
Speaker 6: had an offer for a flight on Saturday that offers
59:19
Speaker 6: we don't have that flight anymore either. We're talking, we're
59:22
Speaker 6: talking a week at So we got no satisfactory at
59:27
Speaker 6: nothing like nothing, no solution at all. And so we
59:30
Speaker 6: hang on the phone. It's like two three o'clock in
59:32
Speaker 6: the afternoon. Our flight was supposed to be six. My
59:35
Speaker 6: brother's family is already at the airport, and I say,
59:37
Speaker 6: what do I do here? So I start expedio whatever.
59:41
Speaker 6: I'm looking to see other airlines that might fly and.
59:44
Speaker 2: So and you would buy it just I mean, and
59:47
Speaker 2: you would say, I'll just buy a fresh flight.
59:48
Speaker 6: What's my option?
59:49
Speaker 4: At this point?
59:50
Speaker 1: I know?
59:51
Speaker 6: So No, this is this is like late June, early July.
59:54
Speaker 6: There is nothing available. The same day I find one airline, well,
59:58
Speaker 6: I said, my sister found one airline that had a
1:00:00
Speaker 6: couple of tickets left called Norse Airlines. You ever hear
1:00:03
Speaker 6: of that this airline?
1:00:04
Speaker 2: Never heard of this? No spell it r.
1:00:07
Speaker 6: Se Norse and they have a couple of seats in
1:00:11
Speaker 6: their premium section, which is only like a step above
1:00:14
Speaker 6: with their regular And so we look at twelve o'clock
1:00:17
Speaker 6: the same night, in midnight with three kids. Let's do it.
1:00:20
Speaker 6: Let's do it.
1:00:21
Speaker 2: Unknown never saying do you google the airlines?
1:00:23
Speaker 6: Even that afterroid bought Now this is seven thousand dollars
1:00:27
Speaker 6: later for the for the one way, we bought a
1:00:30
Speaker 6: ticket seven thousand dollars.
1:00:34
Speaker 4: Swipe that.
1:00:36
Speaker 6: So I started googling and the reviews and nourse. It
1:00:39
Speaker 6: seems like it's the new nor Region airlines. It seems
1:00:42
Speaker 6: like the super international airlines. Right. They do not terminal,
1:00:47
Speaker 6: they don't have flight numbers, they don't have electronic tickets,
1:00:51
Speaker 6: they have no information other than the review saying they
1:00:54
Speaker 6: actually are on.
1:00:55
Speaker 5: Time a lot.
1:00:57
Speaker 6: So okay, we head the JFK. It's not even it's
1:01:00
Speaker 6: not even part of the real terminal. I think we
1:01:01
Speaker 6: may have went to city field. I don't even know
1:01:03
Speaker 6: where we were. But anyway, they're way are checked. They're
1:01:08
Speaker 6: weighing our carry on that there's no electronic pics. We're
1:01:11
Speaker 6: waiting online, there's no global entry or nothing.
1:01:14
Speaker 2: Why are they wearing you? They're weighing your carry on.
1:01:17
Speaker 6: So this is happening, and and they're already in the air.
1:01:21
Speaker 6: So I text my family. I said, look, we're getting
1:01:23
Speaker 6: on this flight. If you don't hear from us in
1:01:26
Speaker 6: the morning. In France, we're hanging out with the Titanic
1:01:29
Speaker 6: submarine crew. That's where we wound up. Start, That's where
1:01:32
Speaker 6: we wound up. So just to just to put a
1:01:36
Speaker 6: cap on this side of story, Norse was incredible, premium incredible.
1:01:43
Speaker 4: It was.
1:01:43
Speaker 6: It was great. It was like business class. You know,
1:01:46
Speaker 6: they never heard of Wi Fi or anything like that.
1:01:48
Speaker 6: But who cares. We took out all time we got there.
1:01:51
Speaker 6: So this sad story on leg one end up with
1:01:54
Speaker 6: a fairly happy ending less seven thousand dollars. But I
1:01:58
Speaker 6: have nothing bad to say about Norse.
1:01:59
Speaker 4: It was great.
1:02:01
Speaker 6: So you know, have our have our trip to France.
1:02:03
Speaker 6: We got there three hours six hours after we would
1:02:06
Speaker 6: have all good. Now let's talk about let's top that.
1:02:10
Speaker 6: Let's talk about the way home.
1:02:11
Speaker 4: All right.
1:02:11
Speaker 1: Wait, so first of all, you get there, your brother's
1:02:14
Speaker 1: family's there, your family's there.
1:02:16
Speaker 2: This is how many days are you there?
1:02:18
Speaker 6: About two weeks?
1:02:19
Speaker 2: Okay, two weeks?
1:02:20
Speaker 1: You guys have this amazing Never forget once in a
1:02:23
Speaker 1: lifetime vacation. The grandparents got to come and now it's
1:02:26
Speaker 1: time to finally call it quits and get back to
1:02:29
Speaker 1: real life. We're headed to the airport. What happens, then.
1:02:31
Speaker 6: We're back until we're back flying United home. I still
1:02:34
Speaker 6: had that way home with United. So we're back with them,
1:02:37
Speaker 6: and so wake up in the morning. We have a
1:02:40
Speaker 6: noon flight France time. We get the text at said
1:02:44
Speaker 6: and thirty exact same time. It wasn't a cancelation. It
1:02:47
Speaker 6: was the flight is deleted three hours. No problem, at
1:02:51
Speaker 6: least they tell me in advanced no problem. We hang out,
1:02:53
Speaker 6: we have a nice French breakfast, We kill a little
1:02:56
Speaker 6: bit of time to get to the airport for our
1:02:59
Speaker 6: three o'clock light now and everything seems to be going okay.
1:03:02
Speaker 6: They bored at the time they three hours lee at
1:03:04
Speaker 6: the time they said they would be bored. We sit
1:03:07
Speaker 6: down and then answer cummes, we got a bit of
1:03:09
Speaker 6: a paperwork issue. We're going to get that sort of
1:03:11
Speaker 6: problem with boarding, with paperwork issues. I have the one
1:03:15
Speaker 6: year old who is not sitting. This is a nine
1:03:18
Speaker 6: hour flight. Adding to adding whatever is to you is
1:03:22
Speaker 6: a problem already.
1:03:23
Speaker 1: I just had my heart just like I honestly like
1:03:25
Speaker 1: skipped the beat when I thought of a one year
1:03:27
Speaker 1: old in addition to two other kids who are probably
1:03:30
Speaker 1: hyperactive as all health.
1:03:31
Speaker 6: Put them in front of the screen. They don't even
1:03:33
Speaker 6: know what's going on the vision. The one year old
1:03:35
Speaker 6: is the problem. So the paperwork issue is about two hours.
1:03:38
Speaker 6: The baby at this point is screaming. She we just
1:03:40
Speaker 6: put her on the floor. She's eating other people's popcorn
1:03:43
Speaker 6: and thumb. It doesn't matter.
1:03:44
Speaker 4: We don't care.
1:03:45
Speaker 2: Do whatever you want.
1:03:46
Speaker 6: You're just crawling through the aisle. It's fine. Flight takes
1:03:50
Speaker 6: off a little after two hours, sitting.
1:03:52
Speaker 2: On the ground.
1:03:53
Speaker 6: Okay, so okay, we're taking off.
1:03:57
Speaker 2: Good story, good ending in second so we fly to
1:04:03
Speaker 2: nine hours.
1:04:03
Speaker 6: We land in Newark. We were supposed to landree o'clock
1:04:06
Speaker 6: New York time, and land around six o'clock New York times.
1:04:10
Speaker 6: Land they say, welcome to Newark. We're going to taxi around.
1:04:13
Speaker 6: We're gonna try we're going to find a gate. There's
1:04:16
Speaker 6: been some problems at Newark, as you way may know.
1:04:19
Speaker 6: We're told the time to a gate is going to
1:04:21
Speaker 6: be about thirty minutes or so, okay, it's thirty minutes
1:04:25
Speaker 6: after landing is no problem.
1:04:26
Speaker 2: How the one year old do on the nine hour flight.
1:04:30
Speaker 6: Didn't sleep a minute, just awful, And so my wife's
1:04:37
Speaker 6: face is just like she can't take it anymore.
1:04:40
Speaker 2: She can't take it anymore.
1:04:41
Speaker 6: The stewards are coming over, they're like, she did so
1:04:43
Speaker 6: good and no she didn't. No one, everyone knew she
1:04:46
Speaker 6: did not do well in this flight, and they look,
1:04:48
Speaker 6: she's won. So now thirty minutes becomes it's going to
1:04:51
Speaker 6: be another thirty minutes sitting on sitting sitting on the tarmac,
1:04:56
Speaker 6: and they're blaming you, They're blaming Newark. They're saying they
1:04:59
Speaker 6: get gate problems. Now we're at two hours sitting after the.
1:05:03
Speaker 2: Flight, damn network, and everyone's ring to.
1:05:06
Speaker 6: Get crazy, not just us. People start to get crazy
1:05:09
Speaker 6: now because now we're in.
1:05:09
Speaker 4: The middle of the night.
1:05:10
Speaker 2: Friends, let me just let me off one.
1:05:12
Speaker 6: Two am France time.
1:05:13
Speaker 1: Now and you're literally less than a mile away from
1:05:17
Speaker 1: the airport.
1:05:17
Speaker 2: You're sitting there. We could walk, we could all walk.
1:05:19
Speaker 4: Now we're two.
1:05:21
Speaker 6: Now we hit three, and it's the same message. We're
1:05:23
Speaker 6: still trying, We're still trying, and.
1:05:25
Speaker 2: There's just no real to get the game.
1:05:27
Speaker 6: Now that the stewardess are just throwing peanuts at us
1:05:29
Speaker 6: and things like that, like take this. And then we
1:05:32
Speaker 6: look out the window and we see fire trucks everywhere
1:05:36
Speaker 6: out the window. This is three hours in and so
1:05:38
Speaker 6: they get on. They go, don't worry. This is nothing
1:05:41
Speaker 6: to do with our plane. Some plane needed to have
1:05:43
Speaker 6: an emergency landing and they just landed here. There's some
1:05:46
Speaker 6: engine trouble. Uh, they're going to take care of that.
1:05:48
Speaker 6: But this is certainly going to delay us a bit more.
1:05:50
Speaker 6: So don't worry.
1:05:53
Speaker 1: So now we get Meanwhile, you're thinking emergency landing after them,
1:05:57
Speaker 1: Why do.
1:05:58
Speaker 6: They get They get the gate, So now we get
1:06:00
Speaker 6: we get four hours, which we learned four hours is
1:06:04
Speaker 6: a time by law you have to offer passengers away off.
1:06:07
Speaker 6: So all the other passengers are having their phones to
1:06:10
Speaker 6: the stewards and saying we need a way off now,
1:06:13
Speaker 6: and she goes, I completely agree with you.
1:06:15
Speaker 4: You do, you do.
1:06:17
Speaker 6: But this goes for five total hours.
1:06:21
Speaker 1: Oh my god, on top of the two hours in
1:06:24
Speaker 1: the beginning, two hour.
1:06:24
Speaker 6: At the beginning, nine hours flying, five hours sixteen on
1:06:29
Speaker 6: this flight, we get off, it's.
1:06:32
Speaker 2: Kiss the ground, Kiss the Newark ground.
1:06:34
Speaker 6: Eleven o'clock New York time. It's eight am, France time,
1:06:37
Speaker 6: whatever it is, and we're just we're done.
1:06:40
Speaker 4: And so I remember.
1:06:43
Speaker 6: Thinking, while this is going on, I'm like, this is
1:06:45
Speaker 6: this is this is the worst. Right, Like the seventy
1:06:47
Speaker 6: thousand dollars you chalk, it's done, can't do anything about
1:06:50
Speaker 6: it's not there the trip.
1:06:52
Speaker 2: But this is traumatics.
1:06:54
Speaker 6: So this is the one. And I'm not, like you said,
1:06:56
Speaker 6: I'm not tweeting anything out.
1:06:58
Speaker 4: I'm not.
1:06:58
Speaker 6: I'm not doing any of this stuff. I'm just telling
1:07:00
Speaker 6: my close friends what happened here. But I call Newark
1:07:03
Speaker 6: the next day and they did this smart move. They
1:07:06
Speaker 6: separated their reservation department from their complaints department. Complaints apartment
1:07:11
Speaker 6: is no phone. You cannot reach them. You have to
1:07:13
Speaker 6: email them. So to me a long story short, I
1:07:17
Speaker 6: now have four one hundred dollars credits for all four
1:07:22
Speaker 6: to the United Airlines, which I can't I can only
1:07:24
Speaker 6: use mine and my wife's because my kids are unaccompanied minors.
1:07:27
Speaker 6: They can't even use them. So I have two hundred
1:07:30
Speaker 6: dollars now for a future United flights that I got
1:07:33
Speaker 6: back to that imp find United for the rest of
1:07:35
Speaker 6: my life. I cannot get it. And so and at
1:07:41
Speaker 6: this point now I've given up there. No, I'm not
1:07:43
Speaker 6: going to get I'm not going to be made.
1:07:45
Speaker 4: Pole for this. I'm done. That's it.
1:07:47
Speaker 6: So that's basically the.
1:07:49
Speaker 2: Story that well done, well told.
1:07:52
Speaker 1: I'm going to bring in our producer, Aaron wan Kaufman
1:07:55
Speaker 1: as well. Can I tell you something that's so sick.
1:07:57
Speaker 1: I had multiple delays this past week, and it felt
1:08:01
Speaker 1: like it was nothing at all compared to I I
1:08:02
Speaker 1: went through that.
1:08:03
Speaker 2: I'm so scarred, I'm so callous.
1:08:06
Speaker 1: I have such scar tissue that like, if I'm delayed
1:08:09
Speaker 1: four hours, I'm almost at the zen point now where
1:08:11
Speaker 1: I'm just like, all right, it's four hours.
1:08:14
Speaker 2: It is what it is. But Aaron, your thoughts to
1:08:17
Speaker 2: Jay's story right there?
1:08:18
Speaker 3: I hated that, I like, I want to throw up,
1:08:21
Speaker 3: like the blood left my face the landing and then
1:08:25
Speaker 3: get sitting on the tarmac, and I mean, I have
1:08:28
Speaker 3: no children. I can't imagine what would be like with one,
1:08:31
Speaker 3: not to mention two, not to mention three. I hated
1:08:35
Speaker 3: that that was it's.
1:08:37
Speaker 2: A terrible story. Oh my god.
1:08:38
Speaker 1: You see these horrible like horror stories on like and
1:08:41
Speaker 1: it's like the Saw or blair Witch or whatever you hollow.
1:08:45
Speaker 2: These are worse story. This is far more horrific. This
1:08:48
Speaker 2: story is horrific.
1:08:49
Speaker 6: There's nothing worse with the I mean, it's bad enough
1:08:52
Speaker 6: if you're on this flight, right, We've we've had bad
1:08:54
Speaker 6: travel experience. It's normally, like I said, I don't complain
1:08:56
Speaker 6: about I'm happy to be going right. But to have
1:08:58
Speaker 6: the kid and the five hours after this, after all
1:09:02
Speaker 6: the other crap that was that was too. I mean
1:09:05
Speaker 6: you could you could see people starting to lose their
1:09:07
Speaker 6: mind on these flights.
1:09:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, you see insanity.
1:09:10
Speaker 1: That's when I saw that lady screaming in the aisle
1:09:13
Speaker 1: and being like that person is not real.
1:09:14
Speaker 2: I'm like, there's nothing weird about that. I've been She's
1:09:17
Speaker 2: going insane, she's on a flight. I get it. I
1:09:20
Speaker 2: get it.
1:09:20
Speaker 1: And the and like you keep on talking about the
1:09:23
Speaker 1: flight attendant, and like you go from we're in this
1:09:26
Speaker 1: together to then they're your your enemy because you blame
1:09:29
Speaker 1: it on them somehow and they have information they're withholding
1:09:31
Speaker 1: from you. And then at the end it's like we're
1:09:33
Speaker 1: all just survivors on this thing, Like we're all just
1:09:35
Speaker 1: trying to get off this thing.
1:09:37
Speaker 6: One thing to add is that so united on that
1:09:40
Speaker 6: fire of the United kept blaming Newark, like Newark, Newark
1:09:43
Speaker 6: this Newark. The next day tweeted out that just so
1:09:47
Speaker 6: everyone knows, the airline controls the gates, not the airport.
1:09:50
Speaker 6: So I know they've been blaming us. It's like there's something.
1:09:53
Speaker 4: Going on there, like a public.
1:09:57
Speaker 6: Who's following Newark International Airport's Twitter.
1:10:01
Speaker 4: And they're ping it out there.
1:10:02
Speaker 6: We don't want to take the blame. This is this is,
1:10:04
Speaker 6: this is there, this is it's hubbed, this is there,
1:10:08
Speaker 6: this is there in zone? How can they not deal
1:10:10
Speaker 6: with this?
1:10:11
Speaker 1: I love this that they both have hired high powered
1:10:14
Speaker 1: PR firms to talk about.
1:10:15
Speaker 4: The gate gate.
1:10:17
Speaker 2: It's gate gate.
1:10:19
Speaker 3: I do love that. Norse Airlines comes out looking good.
1:10:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, Norse.
1:10:23
Speaker 6: I'm that I have a platform plugged Norse Airlines. What
1:10:27
Speaker 6: are the light this airline? So now when you search
1:10:30
Speaker 6: for your flights next time to Europe, they fly London
1:10:33
Speaker 6: in Paris, you're going to see that as the as
1:10:35
Speaker 6: the cheap option. I couldn't recommend it.
1:10:37
Speaker 4: Hire it.
1:10:37
Speaker 6: It's great.
1:10:38
Speaker 2: Norris was great Norse.
1:10:41
Speaker 3: I flew I flew Iberia this summer to what is
1:10:47
Speaker 3: that's associated? Yeah, but but I hadn't heard of it
1:10:51
Speaker 3: before and I was looking at it and I was like,
1:10:53
Speaker 3: there's not a ton about this and similarly loved it.
1:10:56
Speaker 3: Incredible experience.
1:10:57
Speaker 2: So uh, you know.
1:10:59
Speaker 3: Sometimes like these little small it's yeah, they're great.
1:11:02
Speaker 4: It was.
1:11:02
Speaker 6: It was business class for I mean for seven thousand dollars,
1:11:06
Speaker 6: but it was. It was great.
1:11:08
Speaker 1: Jay, I'm gonna wrap with this. You're a diehard Jets fan.
1:11:12
Speaker 1: What was worse that flight or the start of the season.
1:11:15
Speaker 6: So the one thing I said to you after I
1:11:18
Speaker 6: listened to your podcast is that I am constantly surprised
1:11:21
Speaker 6: when other Jet fans are surprised about what happened. That
1:11:24
Speaker 6: was the most predictable thing. Maybe not exactly that I
1:11:27
Speaker 6: was at Vinnie ninety nine game. The flight was way
1:11:29
Speaker 6: worse than that.
1:11:30
Speaker 2: I mean, this is were you at Were you at
1:11:32
Speaker 2: the Jets opening? Did you go to that?
1:11:34
Speaker 6: No, I can't go to I was at Vini ninety
1:11:37
Speaker 6: I can't. I can't be at that anymore.
1:11:39
Speaker 1: Vinnie ninety nine like anyway, mean, doesn't it They're coming
1:11:42
Speaker 1: off an ANC championship game and the same exact thing
1:11:44
Speaker 1: happened in nineteen ninety nine Week one. There was so
1:11:45
Speaker 1: much hype for the Jets and Vinie Pop's Achilles the
1:11:47
Speaker 1: first and then sure enough Jets organization not thinking about it,
1:11:52
Speaker 1: trot Vinnie test the verity out.
1:11:53
Speaker 2: On the field right before Aaron Rodgers first game. What
1:11:55
Speaker 2: I mean, it's I.
1:11:56
Speaker 4: Can't thick about that.
1:11:57
Speaker 6: He was going to be out there and for nine
1:11:58
Speaker 6: to eleven. I said, oh my god, I started like
1:12:00
Speaker 6: just like talking about this flight. I started getting this PTSD.
1:12:03
Speaker 6: I'm like, I remember, like I remember this, Verry or clearly,
1:12:05
Speaker 6: the Jets were the Super Bowl favorites that year. For sure,
1:12:08
Speaker 6: they should have beat the Broncos the year before, and
1:12:11
Speaker 6: then that happened. It's the same thing that's happening now.
1:12:13
Speaker 6: Remember the Jets putting Rick Meyer after that, and they
1:12:16
Speaker 6: waited so long to make a move and then Ray
1:12:18
Speaker 6: Lucas came in. It was was great play him earlier.
1:12:21
Speaker 4: Great.
1:12:22
Speaker 6: I mean the Jets are going to try it out
1:12:23
Speaker 6: there with with with Zach now when there might be
1:12:26
Speaker 6: someone else who can actually have This is a good team.
1:12:28
Speaker 6: I mean they didn't look great this weekend.
1:12:29
Speaker 2: They are good and they didn't look good.
1:12:31
Speaker 1: But Zach did three picks at the end, so like
1:12:33
Speaker 1: the cleanest thing and here's your football for the listeners,
1:12:36
Speaker 1: The cleanest thing would be to go trade for cousins,
1:12:38
Speaker 1: but there's so many dynamics to that, like and my
1:12:41
Speaker 1: thing was not speaking to them about this.
1:12:44
Speaker 2: Are they are?
1:12:45
Speaker 1: They at the behest of Rogers where like, he doesn't
1:12:48
Speaker 1: he doesn't want that, you know.
1:12:49
Speaker 6: He doesn't want that. It's it's a really tough spot.
1:12:52
Speaker 6: You probably have to do what they're doing. It's a
1:12:53
Speaker 6: it's a bad spot and ruin what could have been
1:12:55
Speaker 6: a really cool season.
1:12:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, on that note, Jay, thanks for joining buddy.
