- 1:33Welcome to the show. Thank you for having me.
- 1:36I'm just bring the mic up. Just at third.
- 1:39There you go. How you doing today, man?
- 1:42I'm doing good travel a little bit decide to stop by film.
- 1:45A little podcast with you. Thank you for having me.
- 1:47Those great opportunity, I appreciate it.
- 1:49Now, you know you may not even know what a jump.
- 1:53Bin because, you know, you're, there's a lot to cover today.
- 1:58But let's talk about, you know, how you got into racing and and,
- 2:04you know, we'll go from there. So as a kid growing up, I had a
- 2:08dirt bike. My dad got me on dirt bike with
- 2:09training wheels, had two and a half years old.
- 2:12So, you know, I rode till I was about like seven or so and it
- 2:15never got into it. Never loved it.
- 2:16So, my dad brought me to a go-karting and from seven years
- 2:21old to 14 year old kind of Fell in love with it just got me.
- 2:26I always thought like the thought of racing is what I
- 2:29always loved. I always had motorcycles around
- 2:30was the kid but I always loved the thought of it just never
- 2:34doing it. So when I did go karting from 7
- 2:37to 14, I 18 I think seven or eight local championships.
- 2:42Definitely taught me a lot in the long run coming to road
- 2:46racing but and as I say how was that I getting into go-karting
- 2:50because that's something I'd like to get into you know in In
- 2:54you know, was it easy you know based on where you live and
- 2:58stuff like that, a lot of go-kart track score close by and
- 3:02you know, did you go like just carding first so just goes like
- 3:06straight racing. So I had an indoor place which
- 3:09was really close to me, and they had probably the most realistic
- 3:11stuff to date really on track Harding.
- 3:16So I live maybe like 15 minutes from us.
- 3:18So that's where I started until I did all the local stuff and we
- 3:21had actually some really good local Carter's Race with us.
- 3:25We had NASCAR drivers that are racing in NASCAR now come and
- 3:28start where we started in. You know, I was about 12 years
- 3:31old or so, when my dad started to bring me out for outdoor
- 3:35carding and National stuff. But I got offer from a National
- 3:39Cart team and I tested for right before and just you know, I
- 3:43guess it just wasn't what I thought it, I thought it was
- 3:45going to be. So, you know, I was looking at
- 3:47Legend car racing and my dad just never thought we would have
- 3:50the funds to do that stuff and kind of Put me into reality and
- 3:56kind of brought me to where I was in when I was 15 years old
- 4:01when I was working with my dad at penguin, I always used to
- 4:04work at Kanan working the gate for penguin doing all that type
- 4:09of stuff and just sitting around all day and one day my dad I was
- 4:12just super bored and I was like dude next time you're coming out
- 4:15here riding with us so I don't care no matter what you're doing
- 4:17it. So I'm sick of you being bored
- 4:19here and I know you love the people here, so why don't we get
- 4:23you on track? And that's where I started.
- 4:25Wow. And you know, did a lot of the
- 4:30carding make being at the track on a bike easier.
- 4:34I guess, you don't know know the way but you've coached some.
- 4:37So, you know, you see other folks struggle where, you know
- 4:40did was it like you re at home because of the, the carding.
- 4:43All right. Yeah, it was really it was is
- 4:46obviously it's a lot different. You have two wheels 24 but you
- 4:50know Apex is breaking. Get a rolling on.
- 4:53Throttle. It's always it's the same exact
- 4:55thing. So, I mean it was a little bit
- 4:57different Corner entry slide and compared to, I mean, obviously
- 5:00on the Mozart, I could slide into the corners and you know,
- 5:03it was definitely making it a made a lot easier transitioning
- 5:07into it. So, you know, I mean, I'd like
- 5:11to, I don't know if someone were to get into racing, I would
- 5:15probably recommend you to, you know, start doing some carding
- 5:18it teaches you a lot about line Choice Apex and you know,
- 5:22luckily in my case Was as my dad in a lot of people have said,
- 5:26I'm super talented when I got on a bike and I just clicked with
- 5:29it and you know, I can't say anything because it's just
- 5:32myself. But you know, luckily I did
- 5:35adapt very quickly to the bike and you know got to speed really
- 5:40fast and what was that? Like I mean you're young kid.
- 5:44You still pretty young but you know, you're coming in and
- 5:48you're you're flying through a different class.
- 5:52Well, different license. How did you feel about that?
- 5:56And at that age where you like did you just feel natural or
- 6:00what you like? Why can't believe I just did
- 6:01that? Yeah, it felt really natural.
- 6:03I mean every time I got asked a question until like about like I
- 6:08was 17, I didn't know what I was doing.
- 6:10I was just out there doing what I thought I had to do, you know?
- 6:14I wouldn't I wasn't I didn't know what technique I was using.
- 6:17I knew I would just do it. I couldn't explain it to anyone
- 6:19until I was about 18 or 19. When I started like really
- 6:23Taking my racing seriously and you know the more laps I did the
- 6:28more things I would try I would always when I started focused on
- 6:32doing as many laps as possible so I can get faster and I just
- 6:34loved it. All right and now you say many
- 6:37laps as possible. Like how many laps and a day you
- 6:40talking? When I first started racing at
- 6:43Loudon, obviously for the first three rounds I was in the coach.
- 6:48So I mean novice to amateur the I would just do every practice
- 6:52possible. I want to start coaching they
- 6:56had me as a control Rider, so, right around do as many laps as
- 7:00you want. Just pick up people if they
- 7:02crash and do that. So when I did that for my first
- 7:06season in 2019, when I was an expert, I did every single
- 7:09session during the day, I would knock it off track.
- 7:11I can only time I stopped was just to fill up my like, not
- 7:14even eat, just a few low clouds. Fill up.
- 7:16Nice. Nice.
- 7:18That's pretty impressive now. So I guess around age 18, you
- 7:22decide to to take it more serious or just kind of look at
- 7:28your riding technique. So I mean because it from what
- 7:31you're saying it just sounds like you were just a natural
- 7:33Rider. Once you started paying
- 7:34attention did you see like you know okay I need to change this.
- 7:37I need to change that or you just could explain it better.
- 7:41I guess I can explain about because I tried more things.
- 7:44I would like go around and say okay, you know what, if I tried
- 7:48doing this this lap and you know, a lot of people it's it's
- 7:53easier. Then do it.
- 7:54Now, when you say this like to even example, like easier said
- 7:59than done, like when I say go, I'll go scope 20 feet deeper
- 8:03into the braking Zone that I ever have and see where it
- 8:05brings me, you know, try different techniques.
- 8:08Okay, maybe instead of breaking. So deep Break 5 feet earlier and
- 8:13use less brake pressure, you just different techniques that
- 8:16help me like, okay, if I take a wider entry cut down earlier,
- 8:21it's just, I always, always always mechanic.
- 8:23I was just, I don't know, like, Bill off carding to just do one
- 8:27line every single lap and the only time I moved out of it, but
- 8:30to pass right now in road racing There's an opportunity where
- 8:34okay, there's a main race line but you can maybe fade five feet
- 8:38to the left or right and try different things and maybe it
- 8:41helps you on Entry or exit. Got you got you and that's where
- 8:45you started to assume just get quicker.
- 8:49Yeah, it definitely all it opened up.
- 8:50My horizons and definitely made. Go a lot faster.
- 8:54And you know, luckily, my progression throughout my whole
- 8:57entire start of my career, probably from 2018, when I first
- 9:00started riding to, you know, where I am now is super quick.
- 9:04I was consistently dropping 610 so we can up until I was down to
- 9:10the 15s Hannah motard. Oh wow.
- 9:13And that is. That is pretty impressive.
- 9:16Now, does the dirt riding on a dirt to help you more with the
- 9:21motard? Or it's just from And around on
- 9:24the cart I would say you know until I didn't start riding dirt
- 9:29until 2021, okay? So I think it's just learning
- 9:33how slide on the track. You know, I would do even like
- 9:35when I was saying trying things, I would come to a corner and
- 9:37just try slide, you know, just rear brake, whole bunch of front
- 9:41brake, grab some downshifts and try sliding.
- 9:44It might not look good. Like all the pros, but you learn
- 9:47how slide. And, you know, as you progress
- 9:49more speed, you get more comfortable with the front end,
- 9:52pushing the front end, chattering and When you learn
- 9:54different techniques, how to get rid of it or ride through it.
- 9:57Got you now you sliding both wheels or the rear.
- 10:03You know, it depends on what you're doing.
- 10:06Currently, when I'm on the Mozart it's everything sliding.
- 10:09Got the front end and rerun sliding through and sliding.
- 10:12In chattering the front, the front might be chatting about
- 10:14the rear sliding to catch up with the bike so and when it
- 10:17happens now do you do ride in style little motard versus I
- 10:22mean I know and we'll get to the middle weight but are you
- 10:24keeping the bike more up in the corners and sliding around?
- 10:28Oh, you still like sliding around knee down.
- 10:32It's just all the lean angle you carry them.
- 10:34It's I won't change my writing style depending on anything
- 10:36that's happening. I'll just ride like normal but
- 10:39you know, like the front end if the thing that taught me a lot
- 10:42was just understanding my dad's suspension.
- 10:44Got my dad's, a mechanic is an amazing mechanic and, you know,
- 10:47he taught me he just from hearing that he's not even
- 10:49talking to me because me and him our relationship wasn't like,
- 10:52okay until about two years ago. We didn't talk about, suspension
- 10:55me to talk about changes. We were just, you know, this
- 10:58doesn't work. Okay, well, the bikes to the
- 11:00bikes fine. It's just you okay.
- 11:02Until you start, I heard him to have a conversation with other
- 11:04people about chatter and what what it actually is, the
- 11:07definition of it is what taught me how to get rid of it in
- 11:11certain situations, it's not. Okay, nice.
- 11:14So about the time you started listen to it, I mean, and that's
- 11:19something that's difficult. So I, you know, I have a 12 year
- 11:22old that plays tennis and, and she's it, will, she does a
- 11:24couple of those boys. So she's, she's really good.
- 11:26But, you know, it when they when you're younger, it's hard as
- 11:31especially when you're hearing it from.
- 11:32You or your parent, right? It's harder to have that
- 11:35information so again and so, you know, I'm, you know, obviously
- 11:39you're a lot older than that but it is it just reminds me like
- 11:42yep like I can I can see it's like, you know, you're figuring
- 11:46a lot of things out and you know you you you have to get to a
- 11:51point where now you. Okay.
- 11:52I need to get to the next level. I gotta start, you know,
- 11:55listening and learning from folks that have more experience
- 11:58because at that point it's your natural Talent can only take you
- 12:02so far. Our and in that experience of
- 12:06other folks and input and stuff like that, takes you to where
- 12:08you can sustain that that top level of course.
- 12:11Yeah. My dad always brought up the
- 12:12idea or the example like Marc Marquez is riding coach.
- 12:16Do you think he's faster than them?
- 12:18No, then why aren't you listening to me?
- 12:20Like I have so much experience. I have experience to go as fast
- 12:24as you want to go. I just can't personally do it.
- 12:27I don't have the I'm not willing to I'm don't have the talent to
- 12:31but you have the the talent to and if you listen and you use
- 12:35what I'm telling you, I'm not. I would never try to hurt you.
- 12:38Dude. This is what I want you to do.
- 12:40I want you to go and it just gives me list of things and then
- 12:43you know, if I tried it, it worked then I'm like, okay,
- 12:46overtime, I was like that was just coincidence but, you know,
- 12:49until I got a lot a little bit older, I started really
- 12:54listening to them and it's helping a lot.
- 12:56And was it like a defining moment when they happen or just
- 12:59kind of, you know, it's one of those things.
- 13:02You know like again I'll go with my kids there that they look
- 13:06like they ain't listening but, you know, a two days later it
- 13:09was like I was listening and and and and you have had an
- 13:12opportunity to to kind of try what they suggest or was it like
- 13:15okay from this day forward. Because I want to get here, I
- 13:19got to do, you know, X y&z. I think there's more just
- 13:22progression. It was just over time, I would
- 13:24listen and then you know, sometimes he wouldn't give me,
- 13:27you know, at times you wouldn't give me advice obviously just
- 13:29because, you know, he doesn't he doesn't see what's going on.
- 13:32But then, you know, once I probably in 2021, is the first
- 13:36time we actually started talking about suspension, we started
- 13:39trying changes, we started actually doing stuff because the
- 13:42motor is a base that he's built over 15 years of riding, so
- 13:45people tested it and developed it.
- 13:48And I just got handed it. Which allowed people didn't
- 13:50really think help me at the start of my career, but it
- 13:54doesn't just because I have a certain bike or because I have a
- 13:57certain power doesn't mean that's why I'm fast because I,
- 14:00you had I can't even tell you how People told me that you're
- 14:03only fast cause your dad's your dad's bike.
- 14:05Well, you know, I approved on different bikes that I'm a lot
- 14:09different. I can go out there.
- 14:10I went out and car keys, Honda motor it with a shot Tire,
- 14:14right? And, you know, he's like, okay,
- 14:16well, you know, you just go out there, have some fun ride it,
- 14:19you know, I'll be happy if you get 17 because he was trying to
- 14:22run 17 s. Alright, I come back with a 15-8
- 14:24and he's like okay do it now do you use things like that as
- 14:28motivation when somebody says it's the bike or It's your dad
- 14:33or or you know D does that do you die cut, does that roll off?
- 14:36Or do you go? Oh, I'm going to go prove them
- 14:38wrong. Yeah.
- 14:39I've always Built My Career off of proving people wrong.
- 14:42I've always, you know, I'm one of those kids where, you know, a
- 14:46lot of people, you know, I respect Eric would crazy and you
- 14:50know, I didn't do a lot of his classroom stuff because I was so
- 14:53ADHD that I couldn't sit and really focus that long but you
- 14:57know, when I hear people say, oh you can't do that especially
- 15:00like, you know, Shane are bone was a big help in my career.
- 15:02You may, when I always told Shane died when he said, okay?
- 15:0614 surpassed my mom started and then Eric would said, no it's
- 15:09not the only reason you could ever get it was because it's on
- 15:11your bite, your dad's bike, the contradicting, both of them just
- 15:15made me push as hard as humanly possible.
- 15:17All right? So I suspect 2023 now.
- 15:21You know, you, it doesn't matter, right?
- 15:23Because I mean, after last year, I guess they can't say you can't
- 15:26do it. No, I know, I know especially
- 15:29like, even on the 400 is, when I forgot I got fast on.
- 15:32That I wrote hit records, it was like, well, that's that's a
- 15:35built bike. You're cheating.
- 15:37Yada yada. Well last year I came out after
- 15:39not running a 400 all year. I bought a 400 off of bark on
- 15:42racing. Suspension was super soft.
- 15:45I was bottoming out in every single Corner.
- 15:48The thing was understood. We unrestricted it, but the map
- 15:50was set for restricted. So at 10,500 RPM the map went
- 15:55flat Sonoran. Oh well more like there's no
- 15:57power coming after 10,000 RPM. So I was on mixed fuel.
- 16:00My dad actually had his accident I weekend.
- 16:02Ariel he had a crash in the pits so he wasn't there all weekend.
- 16:06So I was just out there doing everything on my own and I still
- 16:10went out there and ran half a second off my track record on a
- 16:12bike that I never rode before I had to sentence on and then you
- 16:16know, it's just the proving Factor, you know, I believed in
- 16:19myself and that's the main thing everything in life is just a few
- 16:22believe in yourself and you tell yourself you can do it.
- 16:25No matter what anyone tells you you guys follow through.
- 16:28No. Yeah, and and so now when you're
- 16:31out there in In the races like you know, you know how easy it
- 16:37for you to lock in, you know before race or like what are
- 16:40some of the things you do before you go out there and is it is it
- 16:43more you just you just having fun or you or you looking like,
- 16:46okay. Well, you know, I'm going to
- 16:48push hard in the beginning and then try to maintain what's the
- 16:52mindset like it. I've changed my race tile all
- 16:55over the last year actually this year.
- 16:57Yeah. I used to be a Red Mist Rider
- 17:00where every single time. For the race.
- 17:03I would put my visor down and there's just one my vision would
- 17:06just go. Like, I was like straight line.
- 17:09It's like, okay, I would do it every single time and, you know,
- 17:12it got me to super fast. Like, don't get me wrong, it was
- 17:16everything when my mind went blank but also came with some
- 17:21consequences where, you know, I would crash or I made stupid
- 17:23mistakes where I made this year on the motor and the dash where
- 17:26I got suspended for one round. So after that, I kind of I mean,
- 17:32I've worked with My mental coach Jake, have with rack racing or
- 17:35now it's behind the best podcast and you know, I've been working
- 17:40with him for six months now and it's just like understanding
- 17:44what the mental side of our sport is because every, as I
- 17:48think the fact is 80% of sports is mental.
- 17:50Yeah, I would say that. Is, that is definitely a high
- 17:52number. Now, was that like a, you know,
- 17:57that that's something that you decided on your own just say,
- 17:59okay, it's time to get the mind right?
- 18:01And I mean it, You know, where an error now, where that is the
- 18:05way, right? You know, a lot of the top folks
- 18:07now was sitting down with mental coaches.
- 18:10I think he thought I would owe him our teen and, and some of
- 18:13these other Riders and, you know, Petco and in these guys
- 18:16that are at the top top level. So, is it kind of like, How can
- 18:21you like just maintain the high level?
- 18:24Is that what you were trying to fix or work on?
- 18:27Or I think it was the biggest thing was just looking forward
- 18:31to this year. We had some really big races
- 18:33coming ahead and I was super ahead of myself.
- 18:35I was supine my head was super big because I've always been,
- 18:39you know, my ego is always been very big, which is a, not a
- 18:42great fact or not, not very good, but the kind of has to be,
- 18:46it has, but you have to be able to harness it and control it,
- 18:48right? I'll get in trouble.
- 18:50I had, I was very confident myself.
- 18:52I would walk around. Like, I was the number one there
- 18:56and, you know, I didn't, I wouldn't say random things that
- 18:58people, I wouldn't say I'm the best.
- 18:59It's just, I gave off that right, right, right.
- 19:02Where I got in trouble with you, people saying oh, your kids
- 19:05doing this, your kids doing that?
- 19:06Everyone would come to my dad. No one would come straight to me
- 19:08because I was still a kid and they still do it.
- 19:10People still do it. People come to my dad.
- 19:12Oh your kid did this. He's 20 years old.
- 19:15Yeah, go to him. So it's you know, I have Worked
- 19:20on it. And, you know, now I've put
- 19:22myself into a different mindset where, you know, I thought of
- 19:25I'm thinking of racing in a way that I've never thought of it.
- 19:29You know, I've always been, I always thought of myself as
- 19:31super mentally, strong Rider, which I was, because I didn't
- 19:35use my brain, right, right, natural talent.
- 19:37And now I've come to a point where a lot of things affect me,
- 19:41because I would just if anyone said anything before race, I
- 19:44would just go into a Zone where I was just super aggressive.
- 19:47Super, I'm approved, this person around, improving this person,
- 19:49wrong, everything that Anyone's ever seen in my whole entire
- 19:51life. Like it's not the way that you
- 19:53want that you should be writing. Yeah.
- 19:55No, I mean I think and, you know, you know, point out
- 19:58Michael Jordan, he did this for years.
- 20:00He'll find reasons to motivate them but, you know, I think, you
- 20:04know, and I don't know when you talk about folks, come into your
- 20:06dad and saying things, I don't know if that's on a track stuff.
- 20:09Or, you know, when you're off the bike and hanging out that
- 20:12kind of stuff because on a bike, but like, any sport, you really
- 20:15have to have a Killer Instinct, and you know what I mean, but
- 20:18you have to be humbled at, you know.
- 20:19And and when you Young, you're going to thump your chest.
- 20:22It's it's hard, not to but you learn quickly like okay.
- 20:26Well if I want to sustain this thing then I then I have to
- 20:31carry myself a certain way and you can see that now with John
- 20:33Moran and and what he's going through right now with the
- 20:36Grizzlies and stuff like that. And you know this guy got
- 20:38millions of dollars and it's just when you're young you're
- 20:42going to make mistakes. I don't as long as you, I think
- 20:44you have support and people that support you that can kind of
- 20:48say, hey man, it's time to moonwalk it back a little bit
- 20:50because As you're going down at a place that, you know,
- 20:54especially you know, when you got talent right?
- 20:56I mean, I think anybody should do it.
- 20:57Regardless, if you have talent, don't have talent.
- 20:58But you know, when you have talent, it's not that doesn't
- 21:03get you to where you want to get to.
- 21:05It's like the surrounding factors and then, just how you
- 21:08move. Yeah.
- 21:10My dad's always been the way that he raised me was.
- 21:12He's a very, he's a brutally honest person so you know, he'll
- 21:15sit, he'll set me straight straight my place, you know, and
- 21:19you know, a lot of my friends, I have a lot.
- 21:20Older friends that hang out with.
- 21:23So they also, you know, like they'll I'm the little brother
- 21:27so they'll always pick on me. They'll make sure they sent me
- 21:30in my place so I know who I am, you know.
- 21:32So it's really like you know, not saying you have to have that
- 21:35but you know that's what's helped me a lot.
- 21:36You just having people that keep me straight, make sure I'm a
- 21:41level head and, you know, I've been very blessed to have a
- 21:45great group of people around me. Nice.
- 21:48So it's 2023. Last year you did four rounds on
- 21:52our six. What's the plan for 2023?
- 21:56Plan is you know I'm doing all of loud and I'm missing one
- 21:59round due to mode America, but I will be racing.
- 22:04I think like five classes at Lau, not a 600 and a 400.
- 22:07So I'll be racing, I think I'm mainly only going for the money
- 22:10around or races. So I'll be doing some races off
- 22:14like the endurance races. But mainly I'ma Do the 600 loud
- 22:18in the 400 loud. I'll be racing The or actually
- 22:23team ECB this year and bark on racing have teamed up to have a
- 22:27three-round support. So, Collins been generous enough
- 22:30to support me and my dad are side of Team.
- 22:33You see Racing for three rounds. So to mode America round.
- 22:37So I'm the ninja 400 and Janu cup, okay?
- 22:39And he'll be helping us with allowed Classic on our six.
- 22:42Oh nice. And now what's that?
- 22:43Like pretty standard mode America?
- 22:46Because I think he did it either a couple of Seasons some Around.
- 22:51Yep, I did two rounds in 2022, two rounds at a Pittsburgh
- 22:54jersey, and then in 2021, I did Virginia, Pittsburgh jersey.
- 22:58It was that like running and mold America.
- 23:01It's, you know, at first, it's the first year as a, it was
- 23:06humbling. It was very humbling, you know,
- 23:09I thought I was going to, do you think you're going to do a
- 23:11certain way, but based off, like certain facts, like the weekend
- 23:15before my first monomeric around, I beat been at Loudon.
- 23:18Man's been battlin, four top fives, all year If I show up at
- 23:21monomeric and I get my ass handed to me, you know, I'm back
- 23:24in the pack, just, it's a different, but it's a different
- 23:27bike different set up, different everything, you know, there's
- 23:29different tricks and parts that you have to run.
- 23:31And you, it's kind of like you're fiddling with the line of
- 23:35being legal or not. Right?
- 23:37So, you know, now over time, you know, at first you like at my
- 23:43second round of Jersey, I was battling for fifth, so I learned
- 23:46a lot but in that time I was like surprised I was Super
- 23:50surprises like okay, I see I'm racing this guy.
- 23:53Oh my God. Like you know you you're putting
- 23:56these people on a pedestal right where you shouldn't be.
- 23:59Like if you really want to be the best, then you shouldn't be
- 24:02putting these people out pedestal.
- 24:03So you know, like 20 21. I fixed that.
- 24:06I got my first top 5 Jersey on. I got engine from Bob Robbins.
- 24:13I was generous enough to let me use it for that round.
- 24:16It was good power. It just had the mapping was a
- 24:18little bit weird. So bogged down the Little bit
- 24:21but you know, we figured it out but I rode with it.
- 24:24But um, you know this year when everyone's talking about the
- 24:27classic, you know all these big names coming and asked me about
- 24:30it, how I feel. It's and then another ordinary
- 24:32race for me. I'm just coming into it.
- 24:35You know, I'm excited to see what these guys can do it, our
- 24:37home track but I don't, I don't think there anything special
- 24:39compared to what what? Yeah, I mean, you know what, the
- 24:42track record is is you guys are running close to it.
- 24:45So we're there, I mean, you know, last year we were down And
- 24:50Scott are an 11-9 and Iran consistent 12 flats from the
- 24:54last round. So I'm definitely, you know,
- 24:58going down to Barber doing a test on the new Michelin tires.
- 25:01Okay? I did that, you know, sadly, my
- 25:04trainee blue, third session, but luckily we had Zev who I just
- 25:07dropped off the bike to he, let me Swap all my parts over and
- 25:10his bike, run it. And, you know, it's, I'm looking
- 25:15real time for. I'm looking really good for this
- 25:17season. I'm really forward to Just
- 25:20riding your, I haven't ridden in a little bit.
- 25:23You know, I went down to the barber.
- 25:24Went down. A Jennings did some coaching,
- 25:25but I also did like two days of riding or sorry.
- 25:28Bushnell at the car track but I'm just, I'm feeling really
- 25:33good. I've been working out now, you
- 25:34know, I never worked out before this year, I am always used my
- 25:38youth to my advantage right now. It's, you know, if I want to be
- 25:42the best, I got workout. I'm doing an aerobic workout
- 25:45workouts where its high intensity for as long as you
- 25:48possibly can. So, I'm doing, And bike rides
- 25:51for an hour where it's 180 heart rate, average.
- 25:55So 53 minutes. Wow.
- 25:57It's just, it's too pushing myself and my dad's been helping
- 26:01me a lot. Push me work.
- 26:03Giving me plans to work out, you know, we figured out over over
- 26:06the offseason. My endurance is not the problem.
- 26:08It's just my body, you know, I'm not, I need to start my, my, my
- 26:12parents are making me go to yoga now.
- 26:13Ya know. That's, it's, it's tough when
- 26:16you're young because you don't want to do those things but you
- 26:18know, that will help you. A lot and it's great that you're
- 26:21buying into it, especially the yoga part because that's
- 26:25something that you can take forever with you.
- 26:27But, you know, you just have to be so flexible.
- 26:30And so now I have you also changed your diet as well with
- 26:33the with the working out. I try.
- 26:37But you know, it's not like I eat, I mean okay back away from
- 26:41that one. I do eat bad, not horrible.
- 26:44Alrighty, well a lot worse but you know, I could be eating a
- 26:49lot better but I've never. I had a problem.
- 26:50I saw T exist under that during the race weekend, he wasn't
- 26:54eating right and he didn't feel good.
- 26:56I've never had that problem. So, you know, maybe it's because
- 26:59he's so fit, he's really fit right leaned out.
- 27:02He's maybe his body, so used to being at that certain it's just
- 27:07like running a race bike. You tune yourself to a certain
- 27:09fuel, maybe he's tuned his body to eat to a certain level, where
- 27:13I'm my body's in a good. I'm in good shape, but I've
- 27:17built myself off of eating. McDonald's and such.
- 27:21Yeah, you know, I'll eat like I've been working on because
- 27:24I'll have crazy money but with my job I ever single day for
- 27:28lunch, I'm eating from, I'm taking stuff from home now.
- 27:31Eating, I'll go grab, go grab a soda but like eat what I have at
- 27:35home, instead of spending more money that I need to spend for
- 27:38raising, right? Right.
- 27:40Which is going to be big this year.
- 27:42Now, do you think that folks are out-of-towners as I like to say?
- 27:48I going to be coming from the first round at Out into kind of
- 27:51learn a track in and do tests. In the first two rounds you
- 27:54think folks are just going to show up the day of and what a
- 27:57weekend of. And so I know for sure, a lot of
- 28:00the guys are going to be there for Round 2 round one.
- 28:03There's was called Atlanta Motor America is that weekend?
- 28:07Okay. So round two, everyone's coming
- 28:09from what I've heard, Insider information.
- 28:11There's a Dunlop test on Thursday Dunlop rented out the
- 28:14track. Wow, so on Thursday, before
- 28:17around to, they'll have a lot of the Riders.
- 28:19They're testing. So when we're pulling in there,
- 28:21there's going to be people on track so whole bunch of people
- 28:24are going to get Starstruck but yeah I know I know a lot of you
- 28:28guys will be there. I know round one armies are
- 28:32round two, is going to be a mock race for the classic.
- 28:34It's going to be. There's going to be half the
- 28:35field there, I believe so it's going to be a nice little if
- 28:40anyone's really questioning it. You know this is going to be
- 28:42their final kind of test to see right rank up and I'm looking
- 28:48forward to it. I I know.
- 28:50Going to miss Ali. I'm going to be there for the
- 28:51classic but I know I mean misery either first or second round,
- 28:54but I gotta assume it loud and it's going to look a little
- 28:57different in May with amount of folks that show up.
- 29:01And I can't even imagine like media coverage and vendors and
- 29:05everything else, probably it should be very, very, very big.
- 29:10It's gonna be huge. I'm really excited for anyhow.
- 29:12It's my I've always liked, never liked growing up.
- 29:15I never really knew about the loud in class, like I knew of it
- 29:17because I my dad raced but He never raced it but we always
- 29:21went up and watched it, so I never liked knew the history
- 29:24behind it, but as I got older, I learned the history about I'm
- 29:26like damn, you know, I really wish that we could have, you
- 29:30know, had our, I could erased our Pro local race but now it
- 29:35gives me an opportunity. I'm super excited to get out
- 29:37there and race. My first Pro Race especially on
- 29:39a 600 at our local track at our local fans.
- 29:42I got I got a whole bunch of family and friends coming up so
- 29:46I'm really excited to show them because you know, they've always
- 29:48heard about me racing I've ever seen me So I ride woods with
- 29:51them. I ride Motocross with them.
- 29:52They've seen me there in that I had a friend come up last year
- 29:55and he's like that's looking with my dad on the front
- 29:58straightaway. That's not him.
- 29:59That's not the same kid that I knowed.
- 30:00The kid hits trees is on the straight away at 140 miles per
- 30:04hour but and I said, mention Ridin woods and and let's
- 30:09explain that a little bit and I assume that's different from
- 30:12like the dirt track or trail riding.
- 30:14Yeah, it's I do tours to series I race natural, which is Is a
- 30:20thing as New England Trail Association to our Trail Racing
- 30:23Association, so it's Hare scrambles.
- 30:25So it's a little more tighten that technical races for two
- 30:28hours. And then I do J day which is
- 30:31half Motocross half woods which is like probably the biggest
- 30:34series on the East Coast right now.
- 30:36Wow. Yeah.
- 30:37I've seen some videos and stuff. I haven't gotten a chance to go
- 30:42there but it seems like it's a huge turnout.
- 30:45It's always fun. I love doing them.
- 30:47Now now folks are trying to reach you.
- 30:50How can they find you on social media?
- 30:52So, my Instagram is Eli block underscore my Facebook, because
- 30:57Facebook is weird. It's Eli, Cole be on Facebook.
- 31:00It doesn't accept block as a last name and I didn't feel like
- 31:02calling Facebook at the time. So everyone's got to know me as
- 31:05he like Colby. So she like Colby on Facebook
- 31:08and my email is Eli block 96 at gmail.com, got you got you?
- 31:12Got you? Wow.
- 31:14So okay, so you're Racing 3 motor America rounds this year
- 31:18and five. Loudon rounds, I believe.
- 31:23Six. Now 06, okay.
- 31:25I think they, because they added the seventh round in India.
- 31:27They did pretty much same thing. Nice.
- 31:30Nice. Now, are you going to also do
- 31:32coaching as well? And and, and what's that like
- 31:36coaching? I mean, you're still young
- 31:37writer but coaching New Riders. So I've always been into
- 31:42teaching ever since I was a little kid even at like, when I
- 31:46was like, oh Carter, I was like eight years old teaching summer
- 31:48camps doing that stuff. So it's always been in me.
- 31:52I've always liked teaching people and seeing people do
- 31:54better. But you know I started doing
- 31:57that with penguin and you know, I've been it's been hard over
- 32:00the last two years because I've been trying to focus on,
- 32:03actually the last two years, I've been testing things.
- 32:05So I've never done that testing part as we talked about before,
- 32:08but now I want to work on testing different things, which
- 32:11is kind of like, conflicts with coaching, but you know, like, I
- 32:14coach for evolved GTI coach were paying when I coach from a GP
- 32:17New Jersey and South Florida. So I love coaching the little
- 32:22kids. It's so much fun with my GP.
- 32:24You got four year olds that are just like anything.
- 32:27You tell them to do they'll do it.
- 32:29You know go drag her all about okay?
- 32:31Don't know how to ride a bike that is do it right?
- 32:33Oh yeah. No it's you know kids are
- 32:35sponges and it is a beautiful thing to see you when they're
- 32:39out there on these small mini bikes and having a good time.
- 32:43Yeah, I coached Joe laub. A guy that race up allowing his
- 32:47son, Joel, Junior. They live 25 minutes.
- 32:50So I used to go down every week and do actually help my racing
- 32:52allows well. I used to do coach circled rows
- 32:55with them cone drills and parking lots and I used to take
- 32:58part of them and you know, it's when I did them I started
- 33:02learning like even from the first time I ever did cones
- 33:04rolls with him. I still could teach him because
- 33:07I know what to do, but my form on the little bike, even got
- 33:10better, you know? So over the however, many times
- 33:13have done it with them, my form, and my everything has gotten
- 33:16better on the small bike, which is crazy.
- 33:17And it's contributed to a lot to my I riding nice nice.
- 33:21Now, you talked about the the train in there and also, you
- 33:25know, the physical training part and now as far as bike, what do
- 33:29you do for training, how much Ridin do you try to get in
- 33:34without even racing? So I do a lot of trail riding
- 33:39and we're driving because we have a lot of places near my
- 33:41house. So I mean, Midsummer I'll
- 33:44probably riding two to three times a week.
- 33:46So if it's, you know, a Wednesday night ride where we
- 33:50That that's the live a little guys.
- 33:52Do Wednesday night rides down in this place, we have a like five
- 33:55mile Woods Loop, where we have double a pro riders down to see
- 33:59router. So it's on your group and go, so
- 34:02you got that. So we'll go out there.
- 34:03Do 23 hours of riding there, then, I'll ride another time
- 34:09during the week whenever I feel it and then I'll probably have a
- 34:11race that weekend. So I think I've like 2524 events
- 34:14this year scheduled between road racing Woods racing jday netra.
- 34:19Doing like a grand national cross country race which is the
- 34:23am a version of our Woods racing.
- 34:26So I'll do that, I'll go to Indiana, do that race going to
- 34:30go to like Pittsburgh jersey before the monomeric around and
- 34:33do some testing. Okay, and I'll go down to West
- 34:37Virginia in a few weeks and get some Shakedown on my 400.
- 34:40Got you guys, now, with all that and all that you've said, we're
- 34:43going to wrap this up. How much fun are you have in
- 34:46doing doing what you're doing? And how much fun has it been in
- 34:49Alaska? Just straighten.
- 34:51I loved it all the way up until 2021, and then it became a job.
- 34:56And then after I 20, 21 and 22 is going to do dirt bikes only,
- 35:01I was gonna do like my five rounds at Loudon and race dirt
- 35:04bikes only and then I got injured a lot and then I got
- 35:08suspended. And now I'm on the 600 so it
- 35:11brought my love back for racing. Now them on a big bike and I'm
- 35:14learning again and I have people to battle with and I never
- 35:16really had that. I was always racing the clock at
- 35:18loud. I was always Okay, can I better
- 35:20in my lap time? Could I didn't have anyone to
- 35:23race with so now it's a have someone to chase down and you
- 35:26know maybe one day soon I get back to that point but you know,
- 35:30if it doesn't then I love to race with Scott Scott's an
- 35:32amazing writer he is definitely awesome, man.
- 35:35Well I want thank you for coming on the show, man.
- 35:38Thank you for having me. My name is Rex, 45, seal a block
- 35:42piece.
