- 0:18Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Fandomonium, the pop culture game show
- 0:22Speaker 1: that shines a spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your
- 0:25Speaker 1: games master and head of Big Wool, Matt Watson. I
- 0:30Speaker 1: just sort of imagine a sheep in a business suit.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, but.
- 0:36Speaker 1: In games master needs games and games need players, so
- 0:39Speaker 1: please welcome first. She is our resident team captain, a
- 0:43Speaker 1: comedian and podcaster who would like you to get your
- 0:45Speaker 1: tickets to the Fandomonium live show on May twenty fourth,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and gosh, yarnet, we love her. It's Audre Stephenson.
- 0:52Speaker 3: May the twenty fourth be with you in Colorado Springs,
- 0:56Speaker 3: Colorado at the Peak Improv Theater.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Extra lation for those people who cheat.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yes, so good.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And she is a fiber artist owner and dya at
- 1:08Speaker 1: Red Door Fiber Studio with a studio ghibli collection coming
- 1:12Speaker 1: May fourth. This is their first time on the podcast,
- 1:15Speaker 1: but I think she'll be a great knit. It's Kate
- 1:18Speaker 1: of Red Door Fiber Studio.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Happy to be here.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Hello, Hello, Welcome as always, Audra, welcome for the first time. Kate.
- 1:26Speaker 1: How are you both doing?
- 1:27Speaker 3: I'm doing good?
- 1:29Speaker 4: I am too. I think I'm going to settle in
- 1:31Speaker 4: here soon. Hopefully give me a minute.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this, oh this, this is a lot right
- 1:36Speaker 1: from the get go. There's a whole format happening right now.
- 1:41Speaker 1: But let's let's get us comfortable and let's start talking
- 1:43Speaker 1: about the reason why we're all gathered here. I believe
- 1:46Speaker 1: we have a panel of fiber artists or audra. I'm
- 1:49Speaker 1: going to start with you. How long have you been
- 1:51Speaker 1: in this hobby space.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I was taught to crochet when I was about six
- 1:58Speaker 3: years old and I couldn't sit still in church and
- 2:02Speaker 3: my parents were tired of being like, come on, you
- 2:06Speaker 3: gotta stop embarrassing us. The Lord is watching. So they
- 2:12Speaker 3: taught me how to crochet, and I'd been doing it
- 2:15Speaker 3: first ever since then, and then recently got into knitting.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I got a knitting machine and now I am doing
- 2:22Speaker 3: like I've done hand exercises so I can actually knit
- 2:25Speaker 3: with my hands. I'm the knitting machine now. So it's
- 2:29Speaker 3: been great.
- 2:30Speaker 1: You are you are a knitting machine.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's great.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So you've been you've been crafting for a long time.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Is there a make that you're working on right now?
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'm asking that and I can see it right, yes, right.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I was going to work on it while we were
- 2:44Speaker 3: doing this, but I kept nodding my head too far,
- 2:47Speaker 3: and then my face fell out of the microphone and
- 2:49Speaker 3: you would just see the top of my head. I
- 2:51Speaker 3: have a little tank top that I'm working on.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Cute.
- 2:55Speaker 3: The pattern says to do the stripes equidistant, but I
- 2:58Speaker 3: don't actually have that much of this green. So we're
- 3:00Speaker 3: just gonna increase the pink size of the stripes until
- 3:03Speaker 3: it's at the top it's green with pink stripes, and
- 3:05Speaker 3: at the bottom it's pink with green stripes.
- 3:08Speaker 4: It's funny. I'm also on a striped top, also green.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Oh my god, what what works almost the same?
- 3:19Speaker 3: We're gonna win.
- 3:22Speaker 1: This is synchronicity. Okay, that's that's great that we've seen
- 3:27Speaker 1: something you're working on and it's almost the exact same.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask you the same question, how long have
- 3:35Speaker 1: you been in this this happy space?
- 3:37Speaker 4: I taught myself to knit whenever I was nine, from
- 3:40Speaker 4: like a book, you know, like when you go to
- 3:42Speaker 4: Barnes and Noble and you get like crafting section and
- 3:44Speaker 4: they have all those things. Staying at my grandma's for
- 3:48Speaker 4: a week, and she was like, we've got to find
- 3:51Speaker 4: you something to do. That's not fun, or watching Tarzan
- 3:54Speaker 4: on VHS for the million myself to it. I made
- 3:57Speaker 4: her a little coin purse before I left for the weekend, and.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah, lovely, we've got hearts there as well. Oh that's incredible.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So yeah, and an the person who's who's been crafting
- 4:08Speaker 1: knitting from a from a young age, that is fantastic.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And just to get into a little bit of of
- 4:12Speaker 1: what you do a Red Doll Fiber studio. You you,
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm I'm not super knowledgeable despite having these three in
- 4:19Speaker 1: my life who I don't pick up as much as
- 4:21Speaker 1: I should. Could you explain to me a little bit
- 4:23Speaker 1: about like the dying process of like of wool and
- 4:26Speaker 1: what that's like.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Wool is one of those fibers that can be It
- 4:30Speaker 4: comes basically in two different forms, so there's superwash and
- 4:33Speaker 4: then non superwash. Non superwash is a more like rustic
- 4:39Speaker 4: form of like wool. And there are tons of different
- 4:41Speaker 4: breeds of sheep, so you have like Marino and Ramblier
- 4:44Speaker 4: and like they all have different fiber properties, but we
- 4:48Speaker 4: specialize with Marino wool, and I normally use mostly super
- 4:52Speaker 4: wash yarns and what I die. But the process is
- 4:55Speaker 4: very like chemistry based, okay, all adding like I are
- 5:00Speaker 4: some dyers who do like natural dye, like chemical dye.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Any color that you can imagine done, you can put
- 5:08Speaker 4: it and you can make colors or individual variegated colors.
- 5:12Speaker 4: It's phenomenal.
- 5:16Speaker 2: For those lists watching. This is a hood made from
- 5:22Speaker 2: Kate's fiber horizons zero done.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Out, obsessed.
- 5:30Speaker 4: It's so cute. That's one of my personal favorite colors
- 5:34Speaker 4: that we ever said.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It's good color palette in that fandom. That's that's fascinating,
- 5:41Speaker 1: that's fantastic. I look, I'm kind of obsessed with the
- 5:44Speaker 1: sheep aspects of things. I think sheep but great animals. Great.
- 5:48Speaker 2: You're so British that you're showing your your patriotism to your.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Walking stereotype at this particular moment. That's fantastic. Kit. You
- 6:01Speaker 1: are so knowledgeable. It sounds like you and Ordra are
- 6:04Speaker 1: like mind melding right now with where you're at with
- 6:07Speaker 1: your creativity. So I think you'll make for a great team.
- 6:10Speaker 1: But you're about to get stitched up because you will
- 6:13Speaker 1: need some opponents, so let's meet them. She is a
- 6:17Speaker 1: fiber artist. See her excellent makes by following at half
- 6:20Speaker 1: double docent on Insta. She's also the winningest player in
- 6:23Speaker 1: the history of this podcast, so technically my nemesis. Well
- 6:29Speaker 1: you look at that. It's Jen Reagan. Hello, Hello, Hello,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and she is a you guessed it, fiber artist, photographer
- 6:38Speaker 1: and one of my favorite human beings. It's such a
- 6:41Speaker 1: shame she's paired with my nemesis. Whenever she bear with
- 6:45Speaker 1: me with this one, this is the most forced one.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Whenever she enters a room, I crow and say yay,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I crow. She a it's ash Wood. Hi, Hello, Hello,
- 6:59Speaker 1: welcome back, Jen. How are you both doing?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Doing good?
- 7:03Speaker 5: Doing all right, doing all right?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Goods, goods. Let's talk fivebrots. That's that's why we're here. Jen.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We'll start with you. How long have you been fiber auting?
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah. I learned how to knit back in high school,
- 7:17Speaker 2: very much, so just the classic and I can make
- 7:20Speaker 2: a rectangle, and then I can connect said rectangle, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: I can either make an infantity scarf or a normal scarf,
- 7:26Speaker 2: or maybe a small blanket or a towel, but nothing
- 7:29Speaker 2: that moves out of the rectangle space. I taught a
- 7:33Speaker 2: bunch of people in college how to knit more rectangles,
- 7:39Speaker 2: and then actually it was hanging out with Odra that
- 7:43Speaker 2: made me go, Okay, I want to learn how to crochet,
- 7:46Speaker 2: and she helped teach me and achieve that, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 2: a handful of years back at this point. And then
- 7:53Speaker 2: one day I decided I'm going to teach myself how
- 7:55Speaker 2: to knit garments because we got to really move out
- 7:57Speaker 2: of this like rectangle space, and yeah, I just really
- 8:03Speaker 2: attached to that. So now it's been a few years. No, yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 2: it's twenty twenty five now, a few years knitting garments,
- 8:15Speaker 2: crocheting garments, and yeah, figuring out the craft. And then
- 8:19Speaker 2: last year I decided I want to start spinning, so
- 8:22Speaker 2: hell yeah, took on spinning about a year ago, and
- 8:26Speaker 2: now I'm just like, okay, what else. Well kind of
- 8:30Speaker 2: dipped a full toe in.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It definitely sounds like you've moved way beyond rectangles. But
- 8:35Speaker 1: it's good to know if I've got any kind of
- 8:38Speaker 1: rectangle related problem or issue, that we've got a watchle expert.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Yes, Oh it's fantastic and real quick. Do you have
- 8:44Speaker 1: a current work in progress or something you'd like to
- 8:48Speaker 1: show off or shout out.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I'm going to show off and shout out the thing
- 8:51Speaker 2: I just finished last night.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I always have at least one ongoing project, but this
- 8:59Speaker 2: has kind of been my white whale, which is a
- 9:04Speaker 2: sweat sweater best for Chris. So it's not gonna fit
- 9:07Speaker 2: in the framing.
- 9:10Speaker 1: But gotta look great on Chris though.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yes again for those watching, this is gonna be a
- 9:15Speaker 2: very visual podcast. It's got this really cool one by
- 9:19Speaker 2: one cabling that looks like trees at the bottom.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Oh that's very Chris supposed to.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Be a sweater and then I was like, you know what, babe,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you don't get sleeves like anyways butter.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so, oh my gosh, if he wears it
- 9:35Speaker 3: as a shirt, it'll show off his tattoos.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so I mean that's the plan. You know him,
- 9:39Speaker 2: he loves a good cutoff for sweater vest. So I
- 9:42Speaker 2: was finished last night, but only so much as the knitting.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And now it needs to get blocked, so we'll see
- 9:48Speaker 2: how motivated I am to wash it.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Oh fantastic and ash fiberrots, how long have you been crafting?
- 9:57Speaker 1: When did you stop? Where are you at?
- 10:00Speaker 4: So?
- 10:01Speaker 6: I am not nearly as experienced as everyone else. I
- 10:04Speaker 6: don't think the reason I also learned any uh, you know,
- 10:10Speaker 6: crochet knitting even sewing for that matter, was because I
- 10:14Speaker 6: spent I think it was probably I think it was
- 10:16Speaker 6: a Thanksgiving in Colorado with Jen and Otra, and Jen
- 10:20Speaker 6: taught us how to crochet.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Maybe it was flowers or something, oranges.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Orange.
- 10:28Speaker 2: It was when I made orange garland for the Christmas
- 10:31Speaker 2: and I taught you Grys how to make the orange.
- 10:33Speaker 6: And so then I she gave me a crochet hook
- 10:36Speaker 6: and taught me how to make a square and then
- 10:39Speaker 6: a rectangle.
- 10:39Speaker 5: You know, I kept it going. So I've been picking crochet.
- 10:43Speaker 6: Up really back and forth the last several years. Nothing
- 10:46Speaker 6: I have yet to like actually finish something concrete. Well,
- 10:51Speaker 6: I say that I've I've finished a couple of things
- 10:54Speaker 6: that weren't rectangles.
- 10:55Speaker 5: Mostly pairs. Grandy Squears.
- 10:59Speaker 6: Did do some rectangle scar situations, but nothing crazy. And
- 11:04Speaker 6: so I'm kind of on the journey of like, Okay,
- 11:07Speaker 6: it may take forever, but we're gonna try to make
- 11:09Speaker 6: at least a garment this year.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I'm out of crochet genuinely. When I taught
- 11:16Speaker 3: Jen how to do crochet, like basic crochet stitches, I
- 11:21Speaker 3: had not done anything that wasn't a rectangle. Jen like
- 11:25Speaker 3: learning how to do that and then immediately diving into
- 11:28Speaker 3: things that I had been scared of is genuinely the
- 11:32Speaker 3: only reason that I have moved forward in my crafting.
- 11:37Speaker 3: So you take your time, like the time is.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Going to pass anyway, you know, I just well spend
- 11:43Speaker 4: it doing something like that. Yeah. Sometimes you like the
- 11:48Speaker 4: people who are the best innovators in a space like
- 11:51Speaker 4: the fiber arts are the people who don't know the
- 11:54Speaker 4: rules yet, Like you must know what rules you're supposed
- 11:58Speaker 4: to adhere to, quote unquote. So it been break out
- 12:02Speaker 4: of that mold. And I find the pieces of fiber
- 12:05Speaker 4: artists so interesting because they actually push the boundary before
- 12:10Speaker 4: they know what they are.
- 12:11Speaker 1: No, yes, that's beautiful.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 6: So I've never learned the rules because I just do
- 12:16Speaker 6: it like every so like they'll get like really into
- 12:19Speaker 6: it for like a couple of weeks and then I
- 12:20Speaker 6: forget about it or I start to do something else.
- 12:23Speaker 6: And then I was teaching myself sewing. That was more
- 12:25Speaker 6: of my like fiber related thing since what twenty nineteen, maybe.
- 12:31Speaker 5: I got a sewing machine and I've been slowly learning.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Haven't picked that up in a couple of months, but.
- 12:37Speaker 1: That's kind of my bibe We've just learned that this
- 12:40Speaker 1: makes you the best artist out of everyone here.
- 12:43Speaker 6: No, it just kind of bounce around depending on what
- 12:46Speaker 6: feels good at the time.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But that's five fine. Yes, Jen asher Al was fantastic
- 12:54Speaker 1: on this podcast. You'll you'll make for a great team.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I know it. Okay, teams, you've arrived at your local
- 12:59Speaker 1: commune to see Stitch and Bitch, but two clear cliques
- 13:02Speaker 1: of forming it's either side of the library. Wow, it's
- 13:05Speaker 1: so easy to see how intersectional feminism breaks down in
- 13:08Speaker 1: a post truth age. But despite these divisions, and because
- 13:12Speaker 1: you're all still creative and whimsical, each splinter group will
- 13:15Speaker 1: need their own branding. So I'd like each pair to
- 13:17Speaker 1: come up with a fiber arts themed team name. Please,
- 13:21Speaker 1: let's start with Udra and Kate. Have you got any ideas?
- 13:24Speaker 4: I do? I have, I too that I are my
- 13:28Speaker 4: pop that I had to bring to the table. The
- 13:31Speaker 4: first one is pearl Hub.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Oh, I like it Pearl Hub.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And also the old Ball and Skin.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Oh, that's good, incredible. I came up with a few
- 13:50Speaker 3: and I was going to pick them based on the
- 13:53Speaker 3: energy that was brought from yours. So now I've narrowed
- 13:56Speaker 3: it down to stitches and hose and totally stitching, but
- 14:07Speaker 3: said like that, Yeah, yeah, of course I really like
- 14:13Speaker 3: pearl Hub.
- 14:17Speaker 1: It's simple, it's got a reference to the hobby. It's fun,
- 14:21Speaker 1: all right, pearl Hub love that.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I love that.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Okay, so we've got pearl Hub. Let's find out who
- 14:28Speaker 1: they'll be facing, Jen Ash.
- 14:29Speaker 5: I'm gonna be honest.
- 14:31Speaker 6: We moved for the first time since twenty nineteen this
- 14:37Speaker 6: weekend and I completely forgot to think of names, and
- 14:40Speaker 6: then I realized, just now, Jen, we both have very
- 14:44Speaker 6: shaved short hair, and I didn't know if you had
- 14:47Speaker 6: come up with anything that happened to do with that,
- 14:49Speaker 6: because that was the first thing I recognized about us
- 14:52Speaker 6: right now.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the consistent thing you've recently been shorn. Yes,
- 14:58Speaker 2: something about shearing sheep. We'll get there. But the couple
- 15:03Speaker 2: that I thought of a couple of variations on the
- 15:08Speaker 2: wooly wenches because the D and D thing or wooly
- 15:11Speaker 2: Witches also works, and then because of the life partners
- 15:17Speaker 2: that our last D and D partners were Fie and Biddy,
- 15:20Speaker 2: I was trying to make a riff off of that
- 15:23Speaker 2: and came up with crafty and witty kind of rhyme.
- 15:30Speaker 7: That.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So that's where I was at with the names.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Asked, do you have a preference of those?
- 15:38Speaker 5: Those were both all all great things, all great things.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I also love the idea of a woman shorn.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Uh huh, okay, wait, okay, yes, I was just thinking
- 15:52Speaker 3: I'm showing instead of okay's scorn.
- 16:02Speaker 2: That's really good, and I like the haircut connection, so
- 16:06Speaker 2: I think we might need to steal that for a
- 16:09Speaker 2: couple of women shorn, a couple of women shorn, but
- 16:13Speaker 2: just a woman shorn to make it easy.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Oh you could, I mean you could do bad grammar
- 16:18Speaker 1: and do a woman's shan, a woman's yes, the possessive apostrophe,
- 16:23Speaker 1: though I don't like that nice a woman shan seorn.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I like the team names that are like a hat
- 16:31Speaker 1: on a hat.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like four levels of referential that kind of
- 16:35Speaker 2: just loses where it was original started.
- 16:39Speaker 1: All right, Well we've got pearl hub versus a woman's shawn.
- 16:43Speaker 3: You like it, all right?
- 16:44Speaker 1: And if you're listening to this and thinking fiber arts,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you say, well, I have been eating a lot of beans,
- 16:49Speaker 1: pulses and legomes lately. That's the only part joke I'll
- 16:53Speaker 1: make don't worry his order with a little segment we
- 16:56Speaker 1: like to call passing knowledge.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Ah the fibers, swirls, wineglasses, the art of encoding geometric
- 17:06Speaker 7: rules that dictate a natural fiber's three dimensional.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Shape in order to construct a practical or decorative make
- 17:14Speaker 3: aka knitting a fucking sweater. While there are many crafts
- 17:20Speaker 3: under the umbrella of fiber arts, the two main ones
- 17:23Speaker 3: you're gonna think of are knitting and crochet. You can
- 17:26Speaker 3: think of these as your yarn children. We each love
- 17:30Speaker 3: them both, but we each secretly do have a favorite.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Crochet is a method of textile production using a crochet
- 17:37Speaker 3: hook to interlock loops of yarn. This can only be
- 17:41Speaker 3: done by hand, kind of like your dad. Knitting is
- 17:46Speaker 3: a method of textile production using pointed sticks called needles
- 17:50Speaker 3: to interlace loops of yarn. This, however, can be done
- 17:54Speaker 3: by hand or machine, kind of like your mom. Fiber
- 17:59Speaker 3: arts and feism who've gotten hand in arthritic hand for
- 18:02Speaker 3: decades because in the past men would only let women
- 18:06Speaker 3: gather together alone in groups if they were making clothes.
- 18:10Speaker 3: And also in the future, after two more terms of
- 18:13Speaker 3: this shit, so pop in your headphones settle in with
- 18:16Speaker 3: one of your twenty five whips, but feel great just
- 18:19Speaker 3: to finish one this month. Let's play Pandemonium.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yes, thank you, Ordra. Just before we get to today's games,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I've asked each player to bring in a muse, something
- 18:31Speaker 1: that inspires them or something they love from this particular hobby,
- 18:34Speaker 1: because it's more of a hobby than a fandom. Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: fiber art is inspiring to me because without it, sheep
- 18:40Speaker 1: would simply always be too warm. Not a world I
- 18:44Speaker 1: want to live in. Jen, let's hear from you first.
- 18:47Speaker 1: What's inspiring you from the world of fibra arts.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I just okay, So I was trying to think
- 18:54Speaker 2: of like a funny one or something or some reference
- 18:57Speaker 2: to something else. So, like, the reality is that fiber
- 19:02Speaker 2: arts very much so has now become very like embedded
- 19:08Speaker 2: in my life. It's something that you know, for all
- 19:13Speaker 2: of my neurodiver drink early is like it's a very
- 19:15Speaker 2: positive stem to do with yourself, and really it brings
- 19:20Speaker 2: on a level of community and camaraderie and like a
- 19:24Speaker 2: shared language amongst strangers on the internet or my best
- 19:29Speaker 2: friends in a space, or just giving time to and
- 19:34Speaker 2: kind of like the heralding back to the passing knowledge,
- 19:37Speaker 2: like just spending time sitting in a room making stuff
- 19:41Speaker 2: together and being creative and talking about patterns or processes
- 19:45Speaker 2: or favorite fiber compositions or you know, things you don't
- 19:49Speaker 2: like whatever it is. Like, it's so yeah, just a loving,
- 19:53Speaker 2: kind space to curate and then you get like dope
- 19:58Speaker 2: shit at the end of it, right, Like it's a
- 20:00Speaker 2: very satisfying, rewarding craft, whether you're like a process person
- 20:06Speaker 2: or a product person. I get to make things for
- 20:09Speaker 2: my friends that they love, I get to make things
- 20:11Speaker 2: for my partner myself. Like, it's just a very rewarding,
- 20:15Speaker 2: very all encompassing. It's everywhere in my life now that
- 20:18Speaker 2: I can't like really see myself without it. That's my speech.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that's beautiful. It's become an inherent part of you.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Yeah, because I think there is something special about people
- 20:30Speaker 3: who want to be making something. Yeah, and like we've
- 20:33Speaker 3: found it in podcasting, people who want to make podcasts,
- 20:37Speaker 3: but also to be able to find that so grounded
- 20:41Speaker 3: in people who want to be making crafted items.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's way more autistic than podcasts. Oh that's beautiful, jen
- 20:51Speaker 1: very inspiring, and look it's it's not a specific thing,
- 20:54Speaker 1: but we can be inspired by the whole, all around encompassing.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I'm inspired by this granny square.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeawful, I'll take that to you, accepted. All right, Well
- 21:06Speaker 1: we'll move over to the other woman's sean Ash, what's
- 21:10Speaker 1: inspiring you from five errots?
- 21:12Speaker 4: I've got two.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 21:14Speaker 8: First is gonna be having multiple projects going on in
- 21:18Speaker 8: the same project bag at the same time, Yes, which
- 21:23Speaker 8: is fun.
- 21:24Speaker 6: They are similar fibers, so I don't hate myself that
- 21:27Speaker 6: I'm touching them at the same time, because that could
- 21:29Speaker 6: be a sensory nightmare.
- 21:30Speaker 5: But they're the same, so it's okay.
- 21:32Speaker 6: So that's my first thing, because I think all of
- 21:34Speaker 6: us who are artists in general have like multiple projects
- 21:37Speaker 6: going on at multiple times all the time. I also
- 21:40Speaker 6: have sewing projects in the basket that are getting done,
- 21:42Speaker 6: So having multiple projects to bounce back and forth.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Is one thing.
- 21:47Speaker 6: The second thing in my true muse is actually Jen
- 21:52Speaker 6: I wouldn't be making or I wouldn't be creating, and
- 21:54Speaker 6: I wouldn't be inspired to create without her.
- 21:57Speaker 5: She just makes such beautiful things, and I am lucky
- 22:01Speaker 5: enough to have.
- 22:01Speaker 6: Received a lot of different items that she's made, and
- 22:06Speaker 6: one that her and Adre made together.
- 22:08Speaker 5: Which is brilliant and so you guys are my muses
- 22:12Speaker 5: gen in particular.
- 22:13Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 22:14Speaker 5: So that's what I'm inspired by, so beautiful.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Quick comment on your first one. Yes, there are always
- 22:20Speaker 1: so many projects happening at once and that is so valid,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but it's so beautiful to be inspired by friendship. Friendship
- 22:27Speaker 1: is the most inspiring thing in my eyes as well.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So yeah, that's that's beautiful. Ash.
- 22:32Speaker 3: I'm not gonna cry.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I'm not going to cry. I have to focus on
- 22:36Speaker 2: this grace where I'm making it not cry.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Because zero people in the chat are currently crying, and
- 22:41Speaker 3: that's how it's going to stay.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Amen.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Oh incredible, all right, very inspiring from a woman's sean.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Let's move on over to pearl Hub. Fantastic name Kate.
- 22:54Speaker 1: What's inspiring you from the world of fiberts.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Listen, they stole my answer. I also think that that
- 23:03Speaker 4: goes to show that the community is so rich and
- 23:06Speaker 4: vibrant for a craft like knitting and crochet and five
- 23:09Speaker 4: arts in general, like when one person learns something, everyone
- 23:14Speaker 4: gets to learn from their process of that there's very
- 23:17Speaker 4: little gatekeeping. There is like this vast sharing of knowledge
- 23:23Speaker 4: amongst people who have higher skill sets and lower Like
- 23:26Speaker 4: the number of hacks that I've learned from people who
- 23:29Speaker 4: are new to fiber is crazy. Like, is something that
- 23:36Speaker 4: whether it is all of us sitting in a room
- 23:38Speaker 4: and hanging out and having our own projects, or if
- 23:42Speaker 4: we're going to festivals and we're getting to see friends
- 23:44Speaker 4: from all over the world, Like social media made that,
- 23:47Speaker 4: like took the barrier of like people that you got
- 23:50Speaker 4: to form relationships with. It took away the barrier of
- 23:54Speaker 4: distance because now you can have friends all over the world,
- 23:59Speaker 4: and even if you don't get to see them, you
- 24:01Speaker 4: still get to be inspired by them and learn from
- 24:04Speaker 4: them and share what you create with them as well.
- 24:06Speaker 4: So that is I also am inspired heavily by community
- 24:10Speaker 4: in the knitting and crochet sphere.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yeah, totally valid to steal the what I think is
- 24:16Speaker 1: the correct answer. There's no points for this, but it
- 24:20Speaker 1: has been amazing to sort of witness from the sidelines
- 24:23Speaker 1: how open this this our friend group is with sharing
- 24:27Speaker 1: crafts and ideas, and how it's just such a it's
- 24:30Speaker 1: such an ego free creative space. Everyone's in it to
- 24:34Speaker 1: lift everyone else up, and that's that's so wonderful to
- 24:37Speaker 1: see and the fact that you get cool shit at
- 24:40Speaker 1: the end of it is even better. Exactly great. Muse
- 24:45Speaker 1: Kate very inspiring and Oudra the other half of Pearl
- 24:49Speaker 1: Hub what's inspiring you?
- 24:50Speaker 3: From fiber Arts, It's been touched on a little bit,
- 24:54Speaker 3: but just as someone who first started crocheting not knowing
- 25:00Speaker 3: that it was probably because I had some neurodivergence going
- 25:03Speaker 3: on that was like before my parents knew the concept
- 25:08Speaker 3: of a fidget toy or anything like that. I was
- 25:12Speaker 3: doing this as that same type of process of helping
- 25:16Speaker 3: me focus on what people are saying, like focusing on
- 25:19Speaker 3: what a movie is actually what's actually happening in this movie,
- 25:24Speaker 3: because otherwise my brain's gonna go in a million different places.
- 25:28Speaker 3: And I think it's just the supreme stem like fidget
- 25:33Speaker 3: toy type of thing, because there is no number of
- 25:37Speaker 3: spins on a fidget spinner where I'm gonna get a
- 25:40Speaker 3: fucking sweater out of this, Like, oh, I've tried, and
- 25:45Speaker 3: literally they never show up. It never shows up, And
- 25:49Speaker 3: what a weird world that would be. But I love it.
- 25:53Speaker 3: I love it just because I'm I'm going to be
- 25:56Speaker 3: doing something like this anyway in order to enhance my life,
- 26:00Speaker 3: and it also gets to be a really fun hobby
- 26:03Speaker 3: that brings those things like community and creativity and all
- 26:06Speaker 3: of those things that also a fidget spinner doesn't bring.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I mean, I bet you could put a sticker on
- 26:10Speaker 3: it and that'd be fun. But this has just turned
- 26:13Speaker 3: into me shitting on fidgets.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Do you have a personal vendetta?
- 26:17Speaker 1: We're not sponsored.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I own I own them.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Off my chest.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, I don't have a problem with fidget spinners,
- 26:28Speaker 3: big fidget spinner, Please don't come after me.
- 26:31Speaker 1: No, there'd been too much positivity in this inspirational mute sement.
- 26:34Speaker 1: We needed a bit of negative.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, fucking fidget spinners.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah, and those bubble pop things.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I love the headline though, of like it's the ultimate stem.
- 26:47Speaker 3: It absolutely is.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Oh fantastic, excellent inspiration. I'm feeling very inspired. Should we
- 26:53Speaker 1: get to some games? Okay, teams, it's time to cast
- 26:58Speaker 1: off by casting on as we weave our way into
- 27:01Speaker 1: round one.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I don't know if you know what those things mean.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Nope. Round one is our classic game of deliberation, elimination,
- 27:12Speaker 1: and deception that this time is called pulling the wool
- 27:16Speaker 1: over your eyes and also ears because this is primarily
- 27:19Speaker 1: an audio medium non title. In this game, I will
- 27:22Speaker 1: read a category and then in turns off each team
- 27:25Speaker 1: a list of five things that are supposedly from that category,
- 27:29Speaker 1: except only three of them are correct. The other two
- 27:31Speaker 1: are false. Discuss and select correct answers one by one
- 27:35Speaker 1: for a point each, but select an incorrect answer and
- 27:38Speaker 1: you'll be frozen out of the list and in need
- 27:40Speaker 1: of some cozy Merino World to warm up again. So
- 27:43Speaker 1: the first category is types of knitting stitches. These are
- 27:48Speaker 1: names of knitting stitches, types of knitting stitches, and I
- 27:51Speaker 1: think we're going to start with pearl Hub. Let's have
- 27:55Speaker 1: a list for pearl Hub. Here are your five stitches. Waffle,
- 28:00Speaker 1: flush dip, herringbone, hex eye.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Okay, so I know waffle waffle, so we can definitely
- 28:12Speaker 3: lock that in.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Waffle and herringbone don't iphon balloons.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So you're going with either waffle or herringbone first.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Yes, we'll go. We'll go for waffle because I know
- 28:25Speaker 3: this is a lockout situation.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Sure, sure, I forgot about that waffle. It's just it's
- 28:31Speaker 1: just to build a bit of silly tension. Yeah, so waffle, yes, yes,
- 28:35Speaker 1: And do you know what because the tension I've I've
- 28:37Speaker 1: just killed it by mentioning it. Herringbone is also correct. Okay,
- 28:41Speaker 1: so you've got two points there on your list. You
- 28:44Speaker 1: have flush, dip and hex eye left.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Oh, I've not heard any of them, but I would
- 28:55Speaker 4: assume hex eye would be something with lace. Maybe.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Oh that does sound very lace like islets?
- 29:03Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 29:04Speaker 4: Mm hmmm, because I've never heard. I'm trying to like dipstitch.
- 29:09Speaker 4: I think it might be hexy, but I'll go with
- 29:11Speaker 4: whatever you think.
- 29:12Speaker 3: For the third one, I'm also thinking hexie though, so
- 29:15Speaker 3: let's go for it.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Going with hexi Hexi is not really just kind of
- 29:21Speaker 1: sound like it would be something to do with lace.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 29:24Speaker 1: You've given it meaning even though it just came from
- 29:27Speaker 1: my brain last night. Cool. Awesome. We you got two
- 29:32Speaker 1: out of three. That's that's really good. That's good stuff.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Let's have a list of knitting stitches for a woman's
- 29:37Speaker 1: shan Here are your five stitches. Cable, tiger lace, fisherman's rib, strawberry,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and elongated.
- 29:49Speaker 6: I learned to knit in January. For a brief moment,
- 29:54Speaker 6: Jen showed me how to knit and pearl.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Don't you worry, Ash got us locking cable because it's
- 30:04Speaker 2: just the oediest one to lock in.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Yep, cable is absolutely a stitch.
- 30:11Speaker 2: My memory does not serve me to remember the other four.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Absolutely, you've got tiger lace, Fisherman's rib on.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yes, the second one we're gonna lock in this Fisherman's rip.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Going with Fisherman's rip. Yeah, Fisherman's rib is correct.
- 30:24Speaker 5: Yeah, that one sounded real.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and the other one's elongated.
- 30:28Speaker 3: That was the last one.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it is elongated. Three for three. I thought for
- 30:33Speaker 1: sure Fisherman's rib sounded fake as hell.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Because there's also half Fisherman's rib just to make it really.
- 30:42Speaker 6: I feel like that's like the vibe right now, like
- 30:44Speaker 6: you know, on the social media's and all the girlies
- 30:48Speaker 6: showing off their Fishermen's rib gear like it's like a
- 30:52Speaker 6: thing right now, trend.
- 30:54Speaker 2: That's a type of ribbing.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Yeah, not falling for tiger lace or strawberry.
- 30:59Speaker 2: So I really like strawberry. I want to think about
- 31:03Speaker 2: what's what's kind of funny is I think using the
- 31:05Speaker 2: dip stitch, which is the other real one from your list,
- 31:08Speaker 2: you could probably create a fake strawberry like motif.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Right, Jen, do you want to come up with what
- 31:14Speaker 3: the strawberry stitch would be. Give us an invent invent it.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Not right now, but I think, I mean, I think.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I could get I think you would use like an
- 31:23Speaker 2: islet for the green stuff and then a dip stitch
- 31:27Speaker 2: for the like strawberry part. I think you could like
- 31:31Speaker 2: get like a look of I'll try it out and
- 31:34Speaker 2: if I figure it out, I'll that's Matt a picture
- 31:37Speaker 2: and you can add it to the podcast.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we just started something.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I'm also thinking like babble like for yeah, oh yes, yes,
- 31:47Speaker 4: the green part, like you were saying, yeah, we.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Just invented something. Here, it's a stitch. Now, it's a stitch.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Now, that's how stitches get made. Just kind of figure
- 31:58Speaker 2: it out and then call it something. A bunch of
- 32:00Speaker 2: people do it, and then they done.
- 32:04Speaker 1: All right, Let's have another category here, a couple more lists.
- 32:08Speaker 1: This time we're going with fabric pattern names. It's the
- 32:12Speaker 1: names of fabric patterns a little more textiles here. We'll
- 32:16Speaker 1: move into that realm. So here we go. Let's have
- 32:19Speaker 1: another list for Pearl, Hub, Gingham, Octagon, Sito, Jacobean, Bizarre,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and ermintrude.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the first one Gingham.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Yeah, going with Gingham, Yes, Gingham absolutely is a fabric pattern.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Okay, beyond that, maybe Jacobean I would be comfortable with that.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and yeah here the other four.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Again absolutely, Yeah, you've got Octagonzito, Jacobean, Bizarre, and Ermintrude.
- 32:58Speaker 4: I would be okay locking Jacobean.
- 33:01Speaker 3: It's probably yes, but if it's the one that we're
- 33:05Speaker 3: both leaning towards, let's go with it.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Okay, going with Jacobean, Yes, it absolutely is a fabric pattern.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Perfect.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I was about to describe it and I was like,
- 33:15Speaker 1: that's the worst idea for a podcast fabric patterns.
- 33:20Speaker 4: It's like, who is it that describes a lemon for
- 33:23Speaker 4: like three pages?
- 33:26Speaker 3: It's probably Tolkien.
- 33:27Speaker 1: It sounds like talking any thoughts on this final pattern
- 33:32Speaker 1: to a fake? One's real?
- 33:35Speaker 3: What's the last one? Again?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Intrude?
- 33:38Speaker 2: And it just makes me giggle.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Uh huh.
- 33:43Speaker 3: It's either the most fake or he picked it because
- 33:47Speaker 3: it was fake.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Yes, how is bizarre spelled?
- 33:54Speaker 1: Bizarre is spelled b I Z A R R E.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Okay, I didn't know if it was like buzzar or
- 34:01Speaker 4: totally is c too. That's where I'm like, that's where
- 34:06Speaker 4: I'm thinking, maybe cito is something and then the shape
- 34:11Speaker 4: I don't know, it would be a shot in the dark.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Let's let's go with it.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Okay, going with Octagoncito. That's not correct. Octagoncito is a
- 34:22Speaker 1: lucha door who performs in Mexico. It was it was
- 34:27Speaker 1: actually bizarre. Was the was the final type? Ermintrude is
- 34:32Speaker 1: a cow from a nineteen sixties TV series children's TV show.
- 34:38Speaker 1: So there you go, but very good.
- 34:41Speaker 2: It sounds like it's so normally.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Two out of three. There another good attempt at that list.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Let's have a list of fabric pattern names. Now for
- 34:52Speaker 1: a woman's shown. Here are your five strange ways Paisley,
- 34:58Speaker 1: cut trifoil, hounds, tooth, noose sphere.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Hounds, tooth.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do the easy one.
- 35:06Speaker 1: So's tohounds, tooth to tooth is correct?
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yes, and then second's Paisley Paisley.
- 35:13Speaker 5: I was like, there was another one that was.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Yep, Paisley is absolutely correct as well.
- 35:17Speaker 2: So now they get to choose from the three that
- 35:19Speaker 2: sound save them one more time.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Absolutely, you've got strange ways, catrifoil, and noose sphere.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Why do I feel like it's gonna be strange ways?
- 35:31Speaker 5: Because bizarre, and then we have strange ways.
- 35:35Speaker 2: It's fair consistent.
- 35:38Speaker 6: I am gonna admit that when I create things with fabric,
- 35:43Speaker 6: I thripped my fabric, so I have no idea what
- 35:48Speaker 6: it is.
- 35:49Speaker 5: So this is a fun game of I've never heard
- 35:51Speaker 5: of that.
- 35:52Speaker 1: That's that means you a better than everyone?
- 35:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean I also gravitate towards strange ways
- 35:58Speaker 2: because it's just fun fun name as well. And the
- 36:01Speaker 2: other two like foil, I feel like normally doesn't associate
- 36:07Speaker 2: with fabric because I think of like like the gold
- 36:11Speaker 2: foil or like like the.
- 36:13Speaker 5: Well there is fabric that is foiled, though.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Oh I will adds a whole thing.
- 36:18Speaker 6: Yeah, because there there is fabric that does have like
- 36:22Speaker 6: metallic Yeah, but it might not be like a separate
- 36:26Speaker 6: fabric like I've seen like tilting cotton that has like
- 36:31Speaker 6: gold foiley looking it's on it.
- 36:34Speaker 5: So I don't want to count that out. But I
- 36:36Speaker 5: still want to go with strange oys.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Let's do strangers because it's knowing that's probably controys contrafoil.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that, but you're going with strange wys.
- 36:46Speaker 5: We're going with a strange ways.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it just feels right Okay, okay, yeah that's fair.
- 36:51Speaker 1: It's not strange wys. It is cantrofoil. But you called
- 36:55Speaker 1: that that's what it would be.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Uh we did that.
- 36:58Speaker 2: No.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Third point that this is.
- 36:59Speaker 2: How I played gate leapers. I say the funny thing,
- 37:02Speaker 2: knowing that it's probably the other thing.
- 37:05Speaker 1: You play it into it and it's it's not. Yes,
- 37:11Speaker 1: strange Ways is a prison in the UK, and new
- 37:17Speaker 1: sphere is like a philosophical concept.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I think it did feel like very philosophy.
- 37:24Speaker 3: I like it.
- 37:25Speaker 5: That was the only one that didn't feel fabricy.
- 37:27Speaker 2: So yeah, that was I felt pretty confident it wasn't
- 37:30Speaker 2: that one very good.
- 37:32Speaker 1: For not not falling for that. There's one more category here,
- 37:35Speaker 1: and this is my favorite category. I've been waiting for
- 37:39Speaker 1: this for it's sheep breeds, specifically breeds of sheep that
- 37:46Speaker 1: are used for their wool providing the Internet was correct
- 37:49Speaker 1: about that.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Because there's like somewhere around like two thousand sheep breeds.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Just there's a lot, and there's a lot with great names.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So pearl herbe here is your list of five sheep breeds.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Hog Island, Masham, chunders Field, Downer Talk Talk and Swedish carpets.
- 38:16Speaker 4: What I love is that I have never heard of
- 38:20Speaker 4: any of those. I think the second one, the one
- 38:24Speaker 4: that starts.
- 38:25Speaker 1: With an M masham.
- 38:29Speaker 3: I will let you pick, Okay. I was thinking a
- 38:35Speaker 3: similar thing on Masham as I was thinking on one
- 38:39Speaker 3: of the on the other one. The whichever one we
- 38:43Speaker 3: picked there wasn't right. This is either so right or
- 38:47Speaker 3: so wrong, and that one was wrong, and so this
- 38:51Speaker 3: one might be right.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Going with Masham, Yes, Masham is correct. Masham is a
- 38:58Speaker 1: type of wool producing sheep. Yes, good logic, there, perfect.
- 39:04Speaker 3: I don't remember any of the other ones that you said.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I would read them out all day.
- 39:10Speaker 4: So here we go.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Hog Island, Chundersfield, Downer, talk talk, Swedish carpet.
- 39:17Speaker 3: I don't know why, but I'm feeling talk talk.
- 39:20Speaker 4: Let's go with it, Yes, let's go.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Yeah, feeling talk talk talk talk is incorrect. Talk talk
- 39:26Speaker 1: istray a breed of sheep. But hey, you're feeling the vibes.
- 39:32Speaker 1: You're right about masham. The other two correct ones were
- 39:36Speaker 1: hog Island, hog island, sheep, and a Swedish carpet. Just
- 39:42Speaker 1: just so much fun, okay, And the fun does not
- 39:47Speaker 1: stop there, We're going to have another list of five sheep,
- 39:49Speaker 1: and I'm so excited. A woman's short and here are
- 39:52Speaker 1: your five breeds of sheep. Westmorland, rump back, long Carry, Yeah,
- 40:01Speaker 1: Breton Island Dwarf, Midnight Howler.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Oh, I love that you looked at the list without
- 40:10Speaker 2: knowing anything about like she There is somewhere around like
- 40:15Speaker 2: twenty that you could mention that me and you would
- 40:18Speaker 2: be like, yes, Corey Dale b foul like like blue face,
- 40:24Speaker 2: like yeah, funny names.
- 40:28Speaker 3: None of the.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Okay, a lot of those had triple Barreld names. So
- 40:33Speaker 2: let's go. Let's go through the list one more time.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Yeah, totally, Westmoreland, rump back, long carryaka Breton Island Dwarf,
- 40:46Speaker 1: Midnight Howler.
- 40:48Speaker 2: The Island Dwarf one sounds right. It may lock us
- 40:51Speaker 2: out immediately, But I like.
- 40:54Speaker 9: Midnight Howler that too. But I don't know anything about
- 41:03Speaker 9: sheep or what.
- 41:06Speaker 2: I don't know anything about these sheep.
- 41:07Speaker 6: All these guys, Let's go with yours because your logic
- 41:11Speaker 6: makes sense, and I just like Midnight Howler.
- 41:16Speaker 1: So Bretton Island, Well, if you go in with first, Yeah,
- 41:19Speaker 1: let's start with that. That is correct.
- 41:21Speaker 2: That is a type of carryaker also kind of sounds
- 41:26Speaker 2: like in the way that sheep typically are named.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that.
- 41:31Speaker 2: But also some of them have weird cute names like
- 41:34Speaker 2: midnight how exactly just because some farmer was like, this
- 41:39Speaker 2: bitch won't shut up midnight, so therefore that's the new
- 41:44Speaker 2: breed name the first one.
- 41:46Speaker 5: When you read that one again, that one feels like
- 41:48Speaker 5: a real sheep.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Also, Westmoland rump back.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's as rump in the name, so that's fun.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Yeah, but I feel like in a Westmoreland that's a place,
- 42:00Speaker 6: so that sheep. And then this is the fun name rump.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go with the first one. Let's go with
- 42:06Speaker 2: the rump back.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Going with Westmoreland rump back. No, that's not a sheep,
- 42:12Speaker 1: that's a made of sheep sheep. You got us and
- 42:15Speaker 1: I'm so sorry Ash. Midnight Howler is also made up.
- 42:20Speaker 6: One felt right though, That one felt like it was
- 42:22Speaker 6: made up, which is why we couldn't actually text.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, there had to be a line.
- 42:28Speaker 1: We could invent that sheep right here. That's trickier than
- 42:31Speaker 1: inventing a stitch. I reckon, But.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Do you have to get a few sheep that haven't
- 42:36Speaker 2: already been crossbread.
- 42:38Speaker 3: There's two thousand different types of sheep.
- 42:41Speaker 1: So yeah, that is the end of round one. Let's
- 42:43Speaker 1: count the stitches, I mean the sheep, I mean the scores. Yeah,
- 42:47Speaker 1: let's count the scores. Pearl hub are on five points,
- 42:51Speaker 1: a woman's shorn are on six points. Pretty close up.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Next is round two, after these ads for products that
- 42:58Speaker 1: are far less sustainable than most quality fibers. I hate
- 43:02Speaker 1: this system, but please come back after this. Round two
- 43:11Speaker 1: is called Filthy Threads, a riff on dropouts Dirty Laundry,
- 43:15Speaker 1: which is a riff on Nickelodeon's Figure It Out, which
- 43:17Speaker 1: is a riff on a sixties panel show. I've got
- 43:19Speaker 1: a secret, which is why it's okay for us to
- 43:22Speaker 1: borrow this format. Earlier this week, I asked our players
- 43:25Speaker 1: to send me fiber arts based confessions and hot takes.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I will read one of them out. Our panel will
- 43:31Speaker 1: then discuss the confession and come to a decision about
- 43:35Speaker 1: who they think might be the player who submitted it.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Who submitted it? That's how you say that, But I'm
- 43:43Speaker 1: gonna leave it in and plot twist. It could have
- 43:47Speaker 1: been me. I've thrown in a couple of hot takes
- 43:49Speaker 1: here maybe mine will be more obvious as a layman.
- 43:52Speaker 1: But in there points scored for correct guesses or correctly
- 43:57Speaker 1: concealing your guess. You can vote for you your teammate
- 44:00Speaker 1: if you think it's them, but you won't affect there.
- 44:03Speaker 1: As long as they successfully deceive the opposing team, you
- 44:07Speaker 1: won't cause them to lose out on those points if
- 44:09Speaker 1: you are guessing your teammate. Everyone ready to hear the
- 44:12Speaker 1: first confession, the first filthy thread, which doesn't sound as
- 44:16Speaker 1: good as dirty laundry, and I regret it.
- 44:19Speaker 5: I kind of like it though.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Okay, thanks ash that.
- 44:23Speaker 2: When you're working on a project and you drop your
- 44:25Speaker 2: yarn ball into like water and you're like, fuck, I'm
- 44:29Speaker 2: I supposed to now work with the filthy threads until
- 44:32Speaker 2: I can wash it at the end, or try and
- 44:34Speaker 2: wash a ball of yarn.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for contextualizing it.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's an actual struggle. It happens, it does happen.
- 44:42Speaker 3: There's no good options.
- 44:44Speaker 1: All right, I'm excited. Then let's play filthy threads. Here
- 44:48Speaker 1: is the first filthy thread that I've been sent. Sharing
- 44:51Speaker 1: patterns is okay if you are not selling the finished product,
- 44:59Speaker 1: I think.
- 45:00Speaker 3: I'm just gonna I'm starting the ball rolling. I'm gonna
- 45:03Speaker 3: throw out some things. I think it's our our fabric thrifting,
- 45:07Speaker 3: queen ash egalitarian.
- 45:11Speaker 5: That's feels like an attack, and I don't like this
- 45:14Speaker 5: game already, but.
- 45:21Speaker 3: That's what I think.
- 45:22Speaker 4: That's what I.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Okay, tub Rebuttal, because you spoke first, you might be
- 45:29Speaker 6: you know, deflecting. I will say this is a challenging
- 45:34Speaker 6: one because do any of us sell patterns? No, Like
- 45:37Speaker 6: I don't care, Like I know that you do yarn,
- 45:40Speaker 6: but I didn't think you sold patterns.
- 45:41Speaker 5: So none of us have a steak in this none
- 45:44Speaker 5: of us have a.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Sheep in this race.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Yes, anyone got any strong vibes or feelings on the statement?
- 45:52Speaker 1: In general?
- 45:53Speaker 4: Personally like pattern designers, I do feel like they don't
- 45:57Speaker 4: get paid enough. So like so much most pattern designers
- 46:03Speaker 4: put so much time, effort, and labor into something that
- 46:08Speaker 4: I can buy for seven dollars, and I think I
- 46:12Speaker 4: should have to pay like ten dollars more or more
- 46:16Speaker 4: for something like that, especially if I'm going to be
- 46:19Speaker 4: getting years and years and years of wear out of it,
- 46:22Speaker 4: like or make multiples of a thing.
- 46:25Speaker 3: So I'm on a I'm on a scale of how
- 46:30Speaker 3: how big are they?
- 46:32Speaker 1: I get that size.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Size, how many people are buying your patterns.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Matters, So, but I thought you meant the size of
- 46:43Speaker 1: the rectangle.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Yeah, is it a blanket?
- 46:46Speaker 2: Is it just a great.
- 46:49Speaker 5: You pay more based on how big the rectangle is?
- 46:56Speaker 1: Okay? I mean, Jen, you've been a little quiet.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yeah, what are your thoughts?
- 47:00Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like this is such a big conversation,
- 47:03Speaker 2: especially recently in the fiber community, about sharing patterns. Does
- 47:09Speaker 2: it mean that you're like sharing it widespread? Is it
- 47:12Speaker 2: just like someone compared it to like like lending someone
- 47:17Speaker 2: a book that you own. Like if I have a
- 47:19Speaker 2: book and I'm like, oh my gosh, this is something
- 47:21Speaker 2: that you should read and get benefit from. And I've
- 47:23Speaker 2: already done the buying of said book and I want
- 47:27Speaker 2: you to benefit from it as well. But then like
- 47:30Speaker 2: it's staying in a small ecosystem, and that's more of
- 47:34Speaker 2: like a accessibility amongst a small group to try out
- 47:39Speaker 2: different patterns and be able to get usage, especially like
- 47:42Speaker 2: if you use a pattern once, then it's like, oh well,
- 47:45Speaker 2: then like someone else can use it, but not like there.
- 47:50Speaker 2: I think that's very different than like re uploading a
- 47:54Speaker 2: petite knit pattern and my blog tekes a Ton just
- 47:58Speaker 2: put it on my blog, and it's like, I don't
- 48:00Speaker 2: care how much she makes. I'm gonna guess selling seven dollars.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Patterns are still not the most lucrative. It's not like
- 48:06Speaker 2: she's a billionaire off of this product, even though she's
- 48:10Speaker 2: you know, obviously want to like the biggest just to
- 48:12Speaker 2: name drop one, but then also like as it relates
- 48:17Speaker 2: to like the final product. I think in the pat
- 48:20Speaker 2: to me, a pattern and a final product are two
- 48:22Speaker 2: different things, especially when a lot of I feel like
- 48:28Speaker 2: it's more prolific in the crochet community than it is
- 48:31Speaker 2: because I feel like people who do markets and things
- 48:34Speaker 2: like this like that you're not going and buying. You're
- 48:37Speaker 2: not making a huge sweater that's going to take you
- 48:39Speaker 2: forty hours over three months and then selling it out
- 48:42Speaker 2: of market. You're gonna make things that take you thirty
- 48:47Speaker 2: minutes so that you can make a lot of them
- 48:49Speaker 2: so you can go sell those things. And a lot
- 48:51Speaker 2: of those designers are like, yeah, you can make my
- 48:53Speaker 2: amagroomy frog, for instance, and just sell it and give
- 48:57Speaker 2: me credit as the designer, but you can go make
- 49:00Speaker 2: two hundred of them and selling mount of market. So
- 49:03Speaker 2: to me, those two things are a little separate.
- 49:05Speaker 1: No, I get I get that, and I mean it
- 49:08Speaker 1: sounds like you've done a lot of talking, potentially to
- 49:10Speaker 1: cover up an opinion. We're gonna we're gonna have a
- 49:14Speaker 1: vote now, uh Oldre, who do you think?
- 49:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna stick with my original guess and I'll say Ash, Okay, Ash,
- 49:23Speaker 3: who do you think?
- 49:24Speaker 6: I don't now, I'm gonna go with Odre because I
- 49:26Speaker 6: felt like, because you talked first, I felt like.
- 49:29Speaker 5: You were trying to kick it off of like it
- 49:31Speaker 5: wasn't me.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Yeah, she's am.
- 49:34Speaker 6: I feel like you could play it that way, especially
- 49:36Speaker 6: since you are the seasoned person on the show.
- 49:38Speaker 3: It's easy for us, you know. And I am a
- 49:41Speaker 3: game player, so I respect that.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Kate, who do you think said this?
- 49:46Speaker 4: I'm going to I'm gonna all trust my teammate and
- 49:49Speaker 4: I'll go with Ash.
- 49:50Speaker 1: As well, go with as well.
- 49:53Speaker 4: I am not like with you guys every day, so
- 49:57Speaker 4: that's true.
- 49:58Speaker 1: This is a this is a tougher game for you.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and Jen, I'm gonna go with Odra. Let's just
- 50:03Speaker 2: keep the lines clear.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Keep it keep it balanced.
- 50:06Speaker 3: There.
- 50:06Speaker 2: I like it.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I like it, Okay, with the person whose statement this
- 50:11Speaker 1: is like to mind making something like either knit or crochet.
- 50:19Speaker 6: It was it was in the I don't buy a
- 50:24Speaker 6: lot of patterns, and sometimes I will only try it
- 50:27Speaker 6: once because it's not really my vibe and it's not
- 50:29Speaker 6: a thing that I can that I will probably ever do.
- 50:32Speaker 5: Like typically if I if I stick to a pattern
- 50:35Speaker 5: to the.
- 50:35Speaker 6: End, which doesn't happen often, it's not something I might
- 50:39Speaker 6: use again. But I know that I have friends who
- 50:42Speaker 6: would actually use it and maybe actually understand the pattern.
- 50:45Speaker 5: Better than I could ever, So I don't have a
- 50:47Speaker 5: problem with sharing amongst friends. I did not mean in
- 50:50Speaker 5: the greater sense.
- 50:51Speaker 6: I'm not to take somebody who is making, you know,
- 50:54Speaker 6: a living off of their patterns and putting it on
- 50:57Speaker 6: and pretending it's mine.
- 50:58Speaker 5: I'm not trying to do that.
- 51:00Speaker 3: And I think Jen brought up a good point of
- 51:02Speaker 3: like the small ecosystem type of thing, and we mentioned
- 51:06Speaker 3: earlier one of our favorite things about knitting and crocheting was, oh,
- 51:10Speaker 3: this person has a little bit of a hack or
- 51:12Speaker 3: like a new stitch that I can learn, or those
- 51:15Speaker 3: types of things. And there are things where I've gotten
- 51:19Speaker 3: someone has one pattern that is free and I'll get
- 51:22Speaker 3: that pattern that's free, I'll use it, I'll love it.
- 51:25Speaker 3: I'll go and buy a pattern from them. And so
- 51:28Speaker 3: I think there is an element of that in small
- 51:31Speaker 3: like small community ecosystems of well, try this pattern. I
- 51:36Speaker 3: have this one, like in Ash's case, didn't really work
- 51:39Speaker 3: for me. Try it out, see if you like it.
- 51:42Speaker 3: And it happens to be in a style that a
- 51:45Speaker 3: friend of yours really likes.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Totally, all right, let's have another filthy threads that got
- 51:51Speaker 1: dropped on the ground. Here it is I frogged someone
- 51:55Speaker 1: else's work and redid it without them knowing.
- 52:00Speaker 4: That's just impressive to me.
- 52:03Speaker 5: That's a confession, not even a hot take.
- 52:06Speaker 4: That is just so I'm a meeting Jen whoa.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Yeah, who's skilled enough to do this in enough? But
- 52:21Speaker 3: that mediums someone who knows what they're doing.
- 52:25Speaker 1: Yes, what do you say to that, Jen?
- 52:28Speaker 2: I know that the ecosystem is small. So I may
- 52:31Speaker 2: just think Audrey and I were co collaborating to make
- 52:35Speaker 2: the three sweaters that me, Ash and Audre like have together,
- 52:39Speaker 2: and there was a point where she needed to undo
- 52:43Speaker 2: my ribbing because it sucked and redo it.
- 52:46Speaker 3: But I told you that's true.
- 52:49Speaker 2: You did tell me, but like I mean, I on,
- 52:53Speaker 2: I did that my ribbing sucked. I hate herchet ribbing.
- 52:56Speaker 1: I like it, and you like it.
- 52:58Speaker 2: So that was that's so collaborating. Yes, I made somewhere
- 53:03Speaker 2: around two hundred Granney squares and you connected them, connecting
- 53:06Speaker 2: Grannie squares.
- 53:10Speaker 1: I mean, you're admitting to a lot here, Audra. What's
- 53:14Speaker 1: your defense.
- 53:14Speaker 3: No, I did take out Gen's ribbing on those sweaters,
- 53:20Speaker 3: but I told her about it. I let her know
- 53:25Speaker 3: that this is what was happening.
- 53:27Speaker 5: I do want to make note that this is not
- 53:30Speaker 5: my story. But I did also take out the ribbing
- 53:34Speaker 5: on that swatter.
- 53:38Speaker 4: Because it wasn't quite right.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the neck on yours, the sizing it was,
- 53:44Speaker 3: it was, it was.
- 53:48Speaker 1: All right. Let's let's maybe get some votes on this one.
- 53:52Speaker 1: I think this is our It is a true confession. Jen,
- 53:55Speaker 1: Who do you think?
- 53:56Speaker 3: I don't know?
- 53:57Speaker 2: Out of knowing my friends, I'd have to say Kate,
- 54:00Speaker 2: because I don't know if I I don't think it
- 54:04Speaker 2: was Asher, so I have to go with the last option. Sure, absolutely, so,
- 54:10Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna go Kate.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Going with Kate, Kate, who are you going with?
- 54:15Speaker 2: I'm gonna stick with Jen this time, going with Jen Ash.
- 54:20Speaker 6: I guess I'll go with that United Front as well,
- 54:23Speaker 6: because I don't think Audrey could lie about like I
- 54:25Speaker 6: don't think she could do it and not say something
- 54:29Speaker 6: at all. She could try, Yeah, she would have done
- 54:32Speaker 6: it and then told immediately.
- 54:33Speaker 1: So I'm going to go Kate as well, going with
- 54:36Speaker 1: Kate and Oldra. Who are you going with?
- 54:39Speaker 3: United Front? I'm going to go for Jen as well.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Going for Jen. Good stuff with the person whose submission
- 54:46Speaker 1: this was like to mime knitting, the person who couldn't
- 54:54Speaker 1: possibly lie incredible.
- 54:59Speaker 3: In college, I was working on a blanket for a
- 55:02Speaker 3: friend and someone that I was like in my friend
- 55:04Speaker 3: group was like, Oh, I think I know how to
- 55:06Speaker 3: do this, and so he did a couple rows of
- 55:09Speaker 3: this blanket because I showed him what to do, but
- 55:12Speaker 3: I wasn't paying attention and he was yarn undering, and
- 55:17Speaker 3: so all of the stitches, like his rows of stitches
- 55:20Speaker 3: looked slightly different, and at the time I didn't even
- 55:24Speaker 3: know what that meant, and so I was just like, Okay,
- 55:26Speaker 3: these stitches look different from all the other ones in
- 55:28Speaker 3: the blanket. And it's like if it was for me,
- 55:29Speaker 3: I would leave it. But I want to be friends
- 55:31Speaker 3: with this person, and I don't know how to socially interact,
- 55:34Speaker 3: and so I just like, later on undid it, and
- 55:36Speaker 3: then redid it. And then he was looking at the
- 55:39Speaker 3: blanket and he's like, where where are the stitches? I
- 55:42Speaker 3: fucking did.
- 55:44Speaker 2: So we noticed.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Yeah, so I had to come clean and it was
- 55:49Speaker 3: very This is why I told you immediately that I
- 55:53Speaker 3: there there was presente yes, because I've done it before
- 55:59Speaker 3: and it felt so bad.
- 56:02Speaker 1: But now you've got it off your chest on the podcast.
- 56:04Speaker 4: Yeah, public Forum, I'm.
- 56:08Speaker 3: So sorry Giron.
- 56:12Speaker 1: All right, and with that apology to Giron, we will
- 56:15Speaker 1: move on to our next submission. Here it is I
- 56:18Speaker 1: never used the suggested cast on method in nearly every
- 56:22Speaker 1: pattern I make.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Mmm, who are fair?
- 56:28Speaker 1: Let's just state that whoever it is validation.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Zero blame.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Oh, this is a this is a toughen okay cast
- 56:41Speaker 2: on knitting term. It narrows the playing field. ASH doesn't
- 56:45Speaker 2: really knit.
- 56:46Speaker 5: How dare you? I'm not going to stop ribbing, and
- 56:49Speaker 5: then fraud did immediately.
- 56:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't start.
- 56:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Now she did long tail for that one. Even
- 56:58Speaker 3: though it's.
- 57:00Speaker 4: The one project I did.
- 57:01Speaker 5: I didn't do the cast on that.
- 57:03Speaker 4: I don't think that I was.
- 57:05Speaker 2: It could be you every pattern oh one suck.
- 57:13Speaker 3: I feel like it probably is going to be between
- 57:16Speaker 3: Kate and Jen.
- 57:18Speaker 6: On this Statistically they're the ones probably casting on more.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Yes, I'd like to also throw in that for every
- 57:27Speaker 1: pattern I've made, I would have been very unlikely to
- 57:30Speaker 1: have used the suggested cast on.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Just name in the ring there, take long tail out
- 57:36Speaker 2: of your brain. Please name one other cast on method.
- 57:41Speaker 1: Short tail.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a it's a good gas.
- 57:51Speaker 5: I was like, can someone confirm if that's a cast
- 57:53Speaker 5: on me? I don't know.
- 57:56Speaker 2: You only use the short tail if you're casting like
- 57:59Speaker 2: picking up stitches and your cat like picking up from
- 58:01Speaker 2: the short tail so that you can like pick up
- 58:04Speaker 2: from your working yard. It's a whole thing. But on
- 58:09Speaker 2: often you don't you really use your short too.
- 58:12Speaker 3: It's going to write that down.
- 58:15Speaker 5: Can you say that again so I can record?
- 58:17Speaker 4: Yeah? Called for crochet?
- 58:20Speaker 2: Is it just the chain is a chain, chain organization,
- 58:24Speaker 2: a starting chain, a foundation chain. But it's like the
- 58:29Speaker 2: method is always the same, Like you'd always chain twenty,
- 58:34Speaker 2: and maybe you're chaining twenty and then picking up your
- 58:37Speaker 2: first row from the like the back bumps, but that's
- 58:39Speaker 2: not called anything.
- 58:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's because I've done enough crochet where it's always
- 58:44Speaker 4: been like, oh, chain however many and they're like I
- 58:48Speaker 4: only knew the different ways where you could pick like
- 58:50Speaker 4: turn the chain over and then pick up like the bumps. Yeah,
- 58:53Speaker 4: and to get it okay, perfect.
- 58:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but unlike knitting or unlike knitting, loves having me
- 59:00Speaker 2: for everything. That is what I learned. So okay, yeah, okay,
- 59:04Speaker 2: I'll about to say I think its Kate.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Jen's got her vote in Jen thinks it's Kate. So
- 59:12Speaker 1: therefore we will go with Audre. Who do you think
- 59:14Speaker 1: this is?
- 59:15Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with Jen because I think so yeah,
- 59:20Speaker 3: going with Jen, okay, and Ash, I'm.
- 59:24Speaker 5: Gonna stick with, you know, team solidarity.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Going with the solidarity that and Kate?
- 59:32Speaker 4: Who do you think I'm solidarity?
- 59:35Speaker 1: And I'll go Jen and Jen as well? Okay, JK
- 59:39Speaker 1: JK imagine if this one was me as well, you well,
- 59:46Speaker 1: with the person who submitted this, like to mime knitting
- 59:50Speaker 1: now it was Kate. A very good couple of points
- 59:56Speaker 1: to a woman shown there, which also same.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: I don't care. I will long tail all day long.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: It'll just be tired. I don't care me.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: It's even First I backwards loop everything, looping my yarn,
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: and then I'm like, it'll be fine.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: It's I respect it.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Do a cable cast on? No, do a tubular cast on?
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: No, I'm dead bought.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Okay, let's let's have another submission here. Pearling gets a
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: bad rap. I personally love it.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: That is a hot take.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: That's hot.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: That is the hot take. I hate pearling.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: So I've seen some people learn to knit left handed
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: so that they can avoid it, to just knit back
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: and forth, just be like, okay, swapping this.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: My friend in college did that. She was like, oh
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: I know how to knit, and I was like, okay, great,
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: let's knit. And then as she's going, I'm like, what
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: what the hell are you doing? And she's just going
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: back and forth. There's no turn for work like myself.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Which I think is super fucking impressive. Like left handed knitting.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: My brain is just so oriented to knit the right
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: handed way, like the right to left, then you can
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: knit left what some people teach themselves that way?
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: Amuse me.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: I didn't even know that was possible. Sorry, left handed people,
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: my apologies.
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: No, the world is not built for you, and you
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: are still doing the Lord's work.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: I'm so glad you're hearing the craft.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: But what is doing so hard?
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Ash? Have you got any opinions on pearling?
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: So if I knew the I mean I kind of
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: know the difference, but I kind of don't.
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: The reason that I frogged the one sock was because
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: I was pearl reverse pearling.
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: Twisted some pearl stitch something and.
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: It was incorrect. It was not making the little cute
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: little knit v's. It was doing the squiggles. So I
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: personally must have liked it because I was in a
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: rhythm doing it and it was great.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: Yeah, this could be me.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: I like it.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: What gameplay? You know what actually could also be me?
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I've probably this is probably the least likely one to
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: be me, because give.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Me your opinion on knitting and perling as two techniques.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Oh, I love it. I love how you get the
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: fibers from clams and then that works so well. It's
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: like the It's like the way you can produce fibers
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: from such a hard round thing is so impressive.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Frankly, try it, an you think, Yeah, all right.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Let's let's get some votes on who we think said
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: this Kate, who do you think said this one?
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: I think if we're gonna narrow down the last one
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: via knitters, we can narrow down this one for knitting
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: as well.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: And so I'll go Gen, go and Jen for this one.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Jen, if you got for this one, I've just got
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Kate for their last few rounds. So I'll go Audra.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: I know, I know you do use a lot of
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: like knitting machine stuff, and pearling is different, so like
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: you do pearl, you just do it completely different. So
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: maybe you just really enjoy pearling on a knitting machine.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: So I'll go Audra.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: That's fair about that.
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: That's a good idea.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes sense, Uldra.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Now the strategy comes into play, sure, because if I'm
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: gonna go between Kate or Jen, I'm gonna go I'm
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: glad that there's only a few of these so that
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: I don't break the system. I'm going to go for Jen,
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: because also if it's Kate, I want Kate to be
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: able to get those points.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Oh sure, that makes sense. Play the game. Play the game.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: Uh, Ash, It's kind of hard because I don't remember
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: if Jen told me she liked pearling.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: But then with the logic, of if the pearling is
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: easier on the machine. It couldn't.
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: Odra could say it's not that bad that she likes
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: pearling because it's not harder like it is for regular
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: version of knitting.
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: Who are you gonna stay united? Friend? I swear to
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: God it's not gonna be you. I don't feel like
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: I think it's no.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I respect the staying a united front and staying the team,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: but it Oh wait, I shouldn't reveal it, but.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I'm crocheting.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Jen's already crocheting Jen's pearling.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: Nope, I'm double crochet.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Damn it. I'll get it by the end of the episode. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: So because you remained united on that, that's just two
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: more points for pearl pub there. Yeah mm hmm, okay,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: that is the end of the round. Let's ask someone
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: else to check the scores for me, because I've counted
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: twice and I swear I've dropped a few points somewhere.
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: I really don't know how it happens.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: How does that happen?
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: I don't know how to count.
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: Yes, I need to. I try and do something. It
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: is ridiculous. It is never the it's never the same, numb.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: I learned that I can't count by trying and then
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: being like, is does fifty nine come after fifty eight?
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: I've started. I've started placing markers like every twenty stitches.
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: I'm just like twenty forty sixty eighty cool.
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: Except I did ten because I was still miscounting.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Oh that's beautiful. Well, I've I've managed to just about count.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: The scores pul Hub are on eleven points, a woman's
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: shown on eight points.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Whoa okay, okay, good round can't agra? And a just
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: really good at lying. We've learned.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: That's all. Yeah, I'm so sorry. Round three next after
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: these smart ads. Don't support any of them. Instead, go
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: to red door fs dot com featuring yon collections inspired
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: by your favorite fandoms, and then come back for round three.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Round three is called Scavenger. I'm British and gender queer,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: so I think it's okay to say that, but I
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: still will censer it.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I do love that you've changed the name during the
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: reality TV which was most of us, and then kept
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: it for this change. The pun.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: I'm rebelling. Yeah, it's dive in of the round of
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: our Scavenger hunt. Game where I don't want our players
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: to tell me the answer. I want them to find
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: the answer in their dwelling, in the physical world around them.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: In this game, I will read our players a riddle
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: where the answer will be a noun related or tangentially
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: related to fiber arts. As soon as you think you
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: know the answer, go and find a corresponding item and
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: show it to camera when you return. If you don't
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: know the answer or don't think you have anything, please
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: know you can bullshit almost any answer into the right answer.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: And then after I've seen all four, I'll decide which
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: is my personal favorite item, and I'll award a bonus point.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Are you already to do a bit of scavenger hunting?
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Don't rush? Be safe. I can't afford any lawsuits. Sweet,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: And each question is for all four players. So here
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: is your first riddle. I'll make you one for Christmas.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: It won't be a faf and you'll need fifty of
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: me for your pet giraffe. I come as a set
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: with hat and gloves, so you can drink cocoa and
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: walk with your loves.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: All right, all right, thank.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: All.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: The silence will be cut out.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: I love the silence, though yes, could you imagine leave it?
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: It's good radio.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: It allows the listener to go and find the object
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: as well. In this time true play along home, uh
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: a knit along.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: I'm bad at riddles, but I also take everything way
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: too literally.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Look, the game is called what it is because I'm
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: a bit of a doing riddles. I know that most
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: people don't like them.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: I enjoy it for the aspect of the justification, like.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: If it's if it's wrong, oldra, what have you brought
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: back to the table.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: I have this scarf that I have made that I
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: think is a moss stitch. The first time I learned
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: how to knit two thousand and seventeen.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: The first tison that are you also an old english Man?
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Thousand in two.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: Thousand and seventeen, my accents finally rubbing off. It's taken years,
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: only took a decade.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm gonna be honest.
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: We walked away and I forgot most said, and then
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: I made it to another room in my house and
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: was like, I don't even know why I'm in here.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: So the thing is, I think you could justify something
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: on your person.
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, that's what I'm using.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: But all right, so we've heard from oldra Odra. That
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: is the correct answer. It is indeed, a scarf was
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: the answer to the ritual. Let's move on over to
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: your pell hub teammates, Kate, what did you bring?
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: I also brought my scarf, but it is like a
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: different kind of scarf. So it's a cowl.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Nice?
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Yes, Oh my gosh, is this your handspun cowl?
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: Is?
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I love that?
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: It's lovely? Oh, and I love the draw strings.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: It has the draw string. It is wonderful, literally absolutely
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: wind proof snuggling.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: It's so good.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the snuggle is real cowl. And I made
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: a handspun and so that's like the color on the
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: outside and it's double lined there. If you live on
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: a northern climate, this is what you want.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that looks so cozy, so protective. Yes, fantastic.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Yeah that's yeah, also a correct and I should buck
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: down point, shouldn't I? That's part of what I'm not
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: just looking at everyone's cool shit.
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: Oh I didn't realize that. It was like we can
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: all earn points.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, everyone gets a point for me. Yeah, I'm
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: making your walk. The least I can do is give
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: you a point, ash Ash, what did you bring?
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: Oh? So I kept getting hung up on needing fifty
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: of these to something about my drafts.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: I got numbers, I got girafts, I thought of like
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: spains of yarn. So I just brought like all of
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: these scenes.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: What you doing ashes, You've you've you've pulled your yarn
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: onto the computer and muted yourself.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I hit the space bar.
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: I just figured you needed like a lot of them
- 1:10:59Speaker 6: to make the thing. So skeins of really soft yarn.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's valid, And like it wasn't the answer
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: to the riddle, but it is. You could You would
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: need fifty of them for a giraffe, yes, and you
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: could absolutely make scarfs out of them. So I'm still
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: giving you a point, Jen, What did you bring?
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: I went and grabbed like every scarf I could, but
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: I forgot I got this one in earlier. So I
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: will just reshout out Kate's yarn brand and try not
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: to fuck up my thing. This was made for my husband,
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: so it's like two times too big for me. But yeah,
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: it's like a hooded cowl situation and it works great.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: And yeah, it's made out of Kate's yarn, which is
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: some of the best super wash yarn that I viewed.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: It's not like the weird, like scratchy or like pett
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: like I don't know, it's not squeaky as a lot
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: of people say with super wash.
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: Yeah, everyone listening can't see that. Jen and I have
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: tied our draw strings together.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: It was so cute.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: Definitely a point that Jen. That is indeed another scarff
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: with it so vibrant and now I'm now I'm just
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I'm definitely going to give the bonus point to either Kate.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: It's going oh with the little oranges in there from Yeah,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: that's beautiful, so good.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: Like alloy and her like everything.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Mm hmmmmmmm yeah, oh that's that's okay. Well, I'm sorry Kate,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: it's you've you've made too good of a design.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: I'm going to give the bonus point to Jen. I
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: think I think it was my favorite item.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: This is how that starts though. You see pretty yarn
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: and then you're like, oh, I want to be able
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: to use that, so like this is your introduction to
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: becoming a fiber artist.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: Yes, yes, it takes.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: All right, let's uh, let's have another riddle. Let's uh,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: let's do a scavenger hunt here Okay, there's more to
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: me than curve. I'm not just a spike yet. I'm
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: fit for captains and fishermen alike. A namesake of mine
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: is in an old book and in a nineteen ninety
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: one film starring Robin Williams called Hucks, You've got the answer,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Go Go Go.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: I just like the job. I liked the rhyme. You
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: caught me up with the rhyme.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I like how Ordre is just opening as revealing that
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: the wall behind us is movable.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: Illusions shatter, it's not just a backdrop.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, some I think it's some pretty straightforward but also
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: some some lateral interpretations with this one. Jen You're you're back?
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: What you what have you brought?
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: What you brought me?
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Hersche hook? But it is a what a crochet hook made?
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: I'm just going to use this segment to shout out
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: a bunch of makers that I like. Yeah, so this
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: is a wooden crochet hook made by Netbrooks, who hand
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: makes all of these wooden handles to the including the
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: little point. She like shaves it down and they are beautiful, Yeah,
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: beautiful hooks. So Netbrooks, she's in Canada. She uses a
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: lot of Canadian wood.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: So yeah, that's gorgeous. Just another reason I'm going to
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: get into five rods. That's that's people.
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: People make beautiful things.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I'm ouldra, what did what did you bring?
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: I was going to grab as many crochet hooks as
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: I could find, but I was like, you know what
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: I'm gonna see, I'm going to go off the beaten path.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: I went into my little sewing box and I got
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: like a hook, and I like those little guys. I'll
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: go influence her style up to the camera.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: Can confirm is a hook, and I.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: You know, I like seeing my face down at the
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: side like under my arms, Like, am I doing it right?
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: We'll click that clip, thank you.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: But that's what I brought.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that's beautiful. I like it's a it's a much
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: smaller hook. I like, how like how you found the
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: world's smallest hook?
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: Yes, and I'm going to if it's if it's there's
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: a point ash, what did you bring?
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: Well? I had this in here, but I went and
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: found something different because it was more fun. It's a
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: fishing hook.
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: Nice if I can get the thing to do the
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: thing either way, you see, it's a fishing hook.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: Yeah, she rusted.
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: But yeah, I bought a fishing hook.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: I'm impressed that you could find that so readily after moving.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: Yeah, one of the things we keep very organized.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Oh fantastic. It's great to have a box of hooks
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: whenever you get read of riddle like this. Yes, all
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: the time, it happens. Thank you, Ash, that's definitely a point.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: And last, but not least, Kate, what did you bring?
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: Well, I didn't find my crochet hook, but I did
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: find a pair of needles that I have been looking
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: for for months, So thank you.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that's why we play this game exactly.
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: But I so, I brought a hook that's from like
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: hanging stained glass on my windows like that. My neighbor
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: does stained glass as a hobby and they made one
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: for my birthday and so it's just so cute.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: That is cute.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: Oh, that's so good.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: It was readily available to me, so.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: And yeah, definitely supported by a hook. That's the answer
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: to the riddle that Jen said aloud. I'll probably leave
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: that in the eddic because that was fantastic thing. There's
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: there's no need to apologize. It was brilliant. Sweet points
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: for everyone. I've now got the difficult decision of choosing
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: which one is my favorite. I think I'm gonna go
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: with the fishing huk.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: I like.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I like the slightly more outside the box thinking of it,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: not necessarily. Yeah, it's just let me find my box
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: of hooks that I have lying around bonus points a
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: wash there. Okay, one final scavenger hunt, you do one,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: one last hunt for items. Here is your last riddle.
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: For all the love I have in my eyes, curiosity
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: could be my demise. I'll pinch your yarn and hunt
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: your wool food now, please, my timb ain't full goodness
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: given them both? Okay, I think because we've got some
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: moving creatures, y ash, let's start. Let's start with your
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: lovely handful.
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: This is Marston and this is miss Sandae. And they
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: are really mad because they were laying on the porch
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: so they can go back outside.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: But they're kidis incredible. That is the correct as we
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: were looking for something. Really it's a cat and yeah,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: that's live cats, the cutest cats. And my riddles have
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: an effect on humans, and they also disturb the lives
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: of animals.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: Uldra I have wrapped in my cardigan. Here are cat Kyrie.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: She did not want to be picked up either, but
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: I just wrapped her up in just in any type
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: of sweater. She will just live there. So most of
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: the time when I work and she comes to cuddle,
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: I will just put her in my hoodie or my
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: sweater or my jacket and she'll just lay there for hours.
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: So she's perfectly happy to be here right now. Cute
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: she is. She's just being a little snuggle bug.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: I love angel baby.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: Oh fantastic. Okay, well, yeah, I was hoping for at
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: least one live cat, and we've seen three kates. What
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: did you What did you bring?
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: I brought so our cat passed back in October, so otherwise,
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: but I knit this sweater based off of his coloring
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: several years ago. So we had a TuS. He was
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: a topsy all like black and white, and then his
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: eyes were like cittering green and those was like button peak.
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: So this was a sweater that I knit so that
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: we could match.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: But that is adorable. I'm so sorry for your loss.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: But what a great color scheme.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Huh, it's gorgeous. Correct, such a gorgeous sweater.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Absolutely correct? Point the jen what if you brought?
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: So both of my cats were too high of a
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: place for me to retrieve them. So we're going with
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: the honorable mention, which give me one second.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: I'm so intrigued.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: Can you see her?
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, So.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: I have my pup with me functions in my house
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: like a cat. She does hunt my will, she does
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: attack me while I'm trying to do things and sit
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: in my lap. But I went to go find them
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: and one was like above the closet and the other
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: one was in the closet. I was like, we're not
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: gonna we don't have enough time.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: That's that's totally fair. Sometimes that's just why cats be. Yeah,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: but definitely a point because it matches the riddle, and
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: it's always good to see Marabell on the podcast. Oh
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: imagine if I didn't give the bonus point to the
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: dead cat sweater.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: I think I'd leave you.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: Can we handle that type of reputation?
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: Can't be that.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I'm absolutely going to give Kate the bonus point there.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: It's such a beautiful sentiment, a beautiful tribute. Yeah, bonus
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: point there. All right, that is the end of round three,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: So thank you so much for scavenging and showing off
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: your items. Let me just check for mistakes to see
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: if we can avoid frogging the latest scores, Audra, Sorry,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: just you've been accused of that now, yeah, or admitted
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: to that.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: The scores are pearl hub are on eighteen points. A
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: woman's shorn are on sixteen points. It's close, very close.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: It can all change in the quick fire round. But
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: before we get to the quick fire round, let's talk prizes.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: This episode, Star Prize is the concept of creativity. Whenever
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: you complete a make every month, yeah or decade, you're
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: doing it. You're getting it done. It doesn't matter how
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: long it takes. But our winning team will also receive
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: that entire box of fishing hucks.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, you're gonna have to tell Adam that his
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: fishing hooks are going a little mad.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: Ones just mailing me rusted one rusty hook that sounds
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: so aggressive, like weirdly aggressive.
- 1:22:20Speaker 7: No, no, just on up.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: Next is our crucial quick fire around, But first we
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: must play one final set of ads. We'll be back soon,
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: so get cozy and relax under your favorite blanket unless
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: you're driving God. Okay. Our final quick fire around will
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: test your broader pop culture knowledge, and it's called nitwits.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: In this game, I will give our players clues to
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: a film or TV show that features an iconic piece
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: of nitwear. Those clues will be in the style of
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: a Paris Fashion Week cultural commentator. It gives me a
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: chance to do this slightly not entirely offensive and more
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: natural French accent. I think, Oh, and there's a classic
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: gate Leapers twist. You need to put on a new
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: piece of knitwear every time you give a correct answer,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: So gloves, scarves, hats, socks, jumpers, cardigans, leg warmers apparently,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: and if you run out, just like drape some yarn
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: over yourself or.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: Something like that.
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: I've got all my half made pieces, and my half
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: made I mean partial, not even halfway mate.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: We'll give you credit.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: It's quick fire. So you buzz in by yelling out
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: your team name. Let's practice that now, just do Seorn?
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: Can you pick one? Shorn is a lot more than Pearl.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: Hub mm hmm, so yeah, Seoran, and then Kate Ordre.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Do you think pearl? Yeah, Pearl, so Sean versus Pearl.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Let's do an example question so we can see how
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: this works. You don't need to put on an item
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: after this one if you don't want ah and here
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: we have what we would call a shabby chic design
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: in a mellow red with an embroidered initialism front and
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: center to just you, Yes.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Jen, Harry Potter, Yes, Ron, Yes, our castle and.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: Perfect. That's exactly how you do it. Say the answer
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: and put on an item of clothing. Interrupt me at
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: any points. Here we go, and here we have a
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: classic design. It is so creamy, and not just because
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: of z Chris Evans. Am I right, ladies, I think
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: that's going to be Kate just.
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: It's Chris Evans in knives out.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: It absolutely is. You may put on a piece of
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: network nice. The game begins, and here we have a
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: little resting down to go with your dressing up. Oh okay,
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I see you think this has nothing to do with
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: you A lumpy blue sweater in your eyes?
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: Is it?
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Yes, Sodra, Is this.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: The Devil wears Prada?
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: It is the Devil wears Plaza nicey ah, the aforementioned.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: See, that's what I need to do is just take
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: the tall neck part off and make it right.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: I jumped into a double crochet collar, so it's like
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: way less of a so I.
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: Had folded it over and sown it and then I
- 1:25:35Speaker 6: took the ribbing off the sleeve, so you guys have
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: put in my sleeves like that.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: Yep, I did it on both and this is now
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: loose and split on the sides.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Ah, and here we have so many different outfits to
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: choose from. Also, you can lay around your fancy New
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: York apartment in a sad, young millennial sort of way.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: Get up, you have a mystery to solve and a
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: podcast to record.
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: Seorn, is this only murders in the building?
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: It is indeed only murders in the building. A lot
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: of I believe character that.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: Oh it's so good Beanie first.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Beautiful, there's point there. And here we have a more
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: distressed look on this sweater. And I am also distressed
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: at the number of dead teenagers who have been dying
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: in Springwood as of late. Still, the green and the
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: orange is a bold choice, and I can respect.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: That jump in there. Yes, sorry, is it Riverdale?
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: It's not Riverdale? Good guess, though, very good guess, Seorn,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: is it? Yes, it's not Euphoria again, dead.
- 1:26:52Speaker 7: Pearl?
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Yes or true Buffy the Vampire Slayer again?
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: Shorn?
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Pretty little liars?
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but look, we've got the full gambit of all
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: the TV shows with the dead teenagers. This was a
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: nightmare on Elm Street. This was Freddy Freddy Krue.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: You just say like cut up? And I got lost
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: on that detail. Who would that beat?
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Great guesses? And here we have a wholesome sweater cum cardigan.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: Don't like how that sounds. This is the kind of
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: wholesome content that petty children would watch before the coppaganda.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: That is poor Patrol. I also know him from that
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: clown mask. Jeff sure? Yes, Jen?
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: Is this blues clues?
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: It's not blues clues? Yes, Kate, isn't.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: Mister Rogers, mister Rogers.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Good stuff, a point and a new item, beautiful, just
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: making noises now. And here we have a really cool
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: dude in a charming Pendleton sweater and a glimpse into
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: my own not too distant future. Why not enjoy a
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: white Russian while relaxing, pearl, Yes, Audre, the big Lebowski.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: It is the Big Lebowski.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: Hey, I made that. You're so warm?
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: I didn't take the cardigan off under this it's gonna
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: get toasty.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: And here we have a scarf so iconic it transcends
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: time and space. I believe it was the fourth incarnation
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: of this model. Who's spotted this short?
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: Is this doctor Who?
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: It is?
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: Doctor Who?
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: Yes, I didn't think I was gonna get one.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: But there you go. Please put on an item.
- 1:28:46Speaker 8: Made this.
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: I felt very proud.
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: It's very good.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: Maybe there we go.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: It's my hunting for hunting, huh.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: And here we have another cream cable knit, a staple
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: of Y two K fashion, especially in Stars Hollow. When
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: it is ye it is gilm two.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: White cable sweaters. One of them is Rory's oversized sweater.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: I would not be happy if I missed that one.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: I'm good now, pressures off.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: I can keep my fandom crown on that one.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: And here we have a variety of gloves, hats, and
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: scarves that's are appropriate for Christmas time. But which festive
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: movie did I choose?
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: Shorn Yes, Jen Seren, Dipity, the Kashmere gloves.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: That's not what I've got down here. I'm so sorry, great,
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: which one did I choose?
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: Mind?
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: You do not knock Monsieur Christmas off the roof, or
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: you will have to take his life.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: I forgot the name of my team, so she probably.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: Get I gotta give it. I gotta give it to
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Jack again.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: Santa Claus.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: It is the Santa Claus I was running out of
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: and I was like, let's pick a Christmas movie. They're
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: always wearing hats and stuff.
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: There's some really great sweaters in that movie that they
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: put him in. And also the stepdad therapist guy rat
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: early two thousand sweaters.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: My weeny whistle. And here we have yet another creamy sweater.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: But this pearl. Oh there was only two.
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: There were three when Harry met Sally.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: That's unbelievable.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: I've been waiter for that since the beginning. I was like,
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: it's gonna be when Harry met salad sweater.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: There's the way that you can't. It would be disrespectful.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: Oh, brilliant. And here we have a vast variety of
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: crocheted tops enough to fit an army. The orcs at
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: the front, Yes, ash rings, it is load of the rings.
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: They knit a bunch of the chain mail because it
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: looked similar from behind and it was cheaper, and they
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: got the entire Wellington Knitting Club. So it's a bunch
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: of grandmas that knit all of the knitted chain mail.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: Yes, Oh that's so good.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: Fantastic. Oh quick, last clue before the buzzer. Uh, and
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: here we have what appears to be mostly furs. Are
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: furs fibers pearl shorn? Yes, Kate, is it Outlander? It's
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: not Outlander. That's a good guess.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Sean is a Game of Thrones.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: It's not getting Thrones. That's also a good guess. Maybe
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: a bit closer. Well, they are needed for the cold,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: harsh winter of Regna Rock. Just another example of an
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: excuasy fund collection from Reddull Fiber Studio.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Sure, yes, Jen, is it Raynarots thor right, it's pearl pearl?
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: Yes, Got of War?
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: That's the buzzer.
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: Wait, it's God of War like a TV show.
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: Also gonna be it is gonna be a t I
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: was really guess a war.
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: But I thought that it was just a video game franchise.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm always tricksy with the last one of the
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: things I always I shouldn't do it. It's not very accessible.
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: Yeah, threw it off the rules.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: The important thing to remember ashes that you're right and
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: I'm wrong.
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: Yeah, got his ass.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Let's let's let's take a moment to recognize the orders
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: now draped to blanket over her.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: I'm sweating so much.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: That's why I started with the knitted tank. Yes, I
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: was like, I got to start the tank and then
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: start layering up, but this fishlet, it's officially warm.
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: Honestly, I just wanted to see how far I could go,
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: you know what?
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: Pretty far.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: Okay, Before we get to the final scores and it
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: is close, i'd like to thank our players. You've all
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: spun a yarn and should be proud of your craft.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Thanks so much everyone for joining us today to play
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: these games. Kate, thank you for joining us for the
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: first time. You're an absolute blast. You're so knowledgeable, such
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: a lovely person. Can can we talk about Red Doll
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Fibers Studio right now? Can you share what it is
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: and any exciting things you've got upcoming.
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: I mean, it's perfect for this podcast because it's all fandoms.
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: I literally started Red do Or Fiber Studio because I
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: wanted to make more fandom related art. I used to
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: do knitwear and like sell knitted pieces, and I've felt
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: really gravitating towards like making full totoro sweaters, and I
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: was like, there has got to be an easier way
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: to do that. But Alan, it's also a fandom reference
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: for anyone that watches One Hill the Brook Davis being
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: the girl behind the Red Door. I also grew up
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: behind a red door on our childhood, so I named
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: it Red Door Fiber Studio to pay homage to my
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: favorite teen drama where funnily enough, not as many teenagers die,
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: but but we do all just fandom yarn in general,
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: so on books and TV shows and movies like like
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: you said at the beginning of this, our studio ghibli
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: collection is being remastered and coming back out. It was
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: the very first collection that I did back when I
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: started five years ago. So I'm revisiting it for our
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: fifth birthday and it's going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's amazing. I know Audre is interested in that, yep.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: And they're gorgeous.
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: Yes, so excited. It's one of the things that's so
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: exciting to me because there was a time when I
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: couldn't do like I was obviously super into it an
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: extended period of time crocheting, but like my hands went
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: out and so I've been doing physical therapy so I
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: can actually get back into it, and it's one of
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: the things that I've been like looking at yarn on
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: Red Door fiber studio for a hot minute, and so
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: it's so good to be like, oh I can reliably
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: do this again. I can actually get some gorgeous, gorgeous yard.
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: Oh well, happy for your health, genuinely, hands going out
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: is my worst nightmare.
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: So I huh, it was frightening, and I was like,
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I'm just going to go to the doctor. So go
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: to the doctor.
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, this is your PSA. Drink water, do your stretches,
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: listen to your muscles. Dumbo too hard. The sweater can
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: be finished tomorrow. Yep, it's not worth it.
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: Yep, so true.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks again, Kate. Red door fs dot com is
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: where people can check things out. Where can people follow
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: you on socials?

- 1:35:56Speaker 1: Yep, perfect links to those in the description. Yen, Where
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: can we follow you online and see your makes?
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you can follow me at half double docent The
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: name is referenced to a crustee stitch and doesn't because
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: I like art and art museums. And Emily Exford called
