- 0:02All right, breaking news in the garage area.
- 0:06NASCAR at it again. I'm trying to get my Jags dirt
- 0:09car ready, but I can't. You know why?
- 0:12Because every week NASCAR gives us drama.
- 0:15All right, so I'm going out to Sacramento, CA tomorrow for Kyle
- 0:20Larson and Brad Suite, but I'm getting my Jags dirt car ready
- 0:25to go. There it is.
- 0:27There it is. All right, we got Brody's phone
- 0:31here. Brody's working the camera.
- 0:33He's building outlaw carts. He's going to Millbridge.
- 0:36Breaking news. All right, here we go.
- 0:38Per NASCAR, Danny Hamlin and the number 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team
- 0:43have been hit. We've hit them with an L2 level
- 0:47penalty penalty due to a violation of NASCAR's engine
- 0:51inspection process. Danny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs
- 0:55Racing have been penalized 75 driver points.
- 1:00Like the driver had something to do with it.
- 1:02Yeah. Danny builds the motors.
- 1:05Jesus. And ten playoff points while
- 1:08crew chief Chris Gaybhart receives a $100,000 fine.
- 1:14Because we know. We know.
- 1:17Chris Gaybhart tells TRD what to do with the motors.
- 1:22All right, I'm going to read this other part and I read it
- 1:30over and over and I get it, but we're going to bust it all down.
- 1:34All right, I've told you the penalty.
- 1:37Danny Hamlin still locked in the playoffs, but it will seed him
- 1:40differently. OK, Danny Hamlin still locked in
- 1:43the playoffs, but it will seed him differently because of the
- 1:47attempt playoff points and the 75 point deduction in the driver
- 1:52points. All right, this is NASCAR.
- 1:56Each race winning engine must be inspected by NASCAR once the
- 2:01race team determines that its life cycle is complete.
- 2:05All right, let me D bullshit that for you.
- 2:10They they win a race and this this race they won was at
- 2:14Bristol way back in March. So Denny Hamlin's race winning
- 2:18engine from March at Bristol, they said that this motor is
- 2:22done. We're going to rebuild it.
- 2:26NASCAR says this and I'm repeating myself.
- 2:31I just told you what happened there.
- 2:33He won in March with this motor. Each race winning engine must be
- 2:39inspected by NASCAR once the race team determines that its
- 2:44life cycle is complete, a NASCAR state statement read.
- 2:48In this instance, prior to presenting the engine to NASCAR
- 2:53TRD Toyota Racing Development, they took the motor apart and
- 2:58rebuilt that Bristol winning motor #11's Bristol winning race
- 3:04engine. Per the NASCAR rule book, this
- 3:07violation results in an L2 penalty to the race team and
- 3:11driver. Toyota Racing Development
- 3:14reported this violation. So alright, let's the bullshit
- 3:19it again. Second D bullshit.
- 3:21This was TR DS fault. Why did they do this?
- 3:26It's crazy. As expensive as NASCAR is, they
- 3:30somehow want to control, they want to inspect.
- 3:33So you build the motor, you run the race and when you when you
- 3:38win a race and you rebuild that motor, they want to see it.
- 3:42See, they used to take those motors apart.
- 3:44A lot of drama going on. They want they want to see what
- 3:47you got. All right, let's go back.
- 3:50Let's tell you the history of this.
- 3:52Let's go way back to Sears Point, Sonoma.
- 3:56Remember, we joke about it. We got all types of names for
- 3:59these race tracks. You know, Coca-Cola 600, World
- 4:02600, Charlotte Motor Speedway, three names, Sears Point,
- 4:07Sonoma, San Francisco, whatever the hell you want to call it.
- 4:11All right, My brother Rusty. Oh, Herman's brother Rusty.
- 4:15My brother Rusty. Yes, my brother Rusty, when he
- 4:20was with Rodger Penske, Rusty set 10 quick times, QuickTime 10
- 4:27times that year. NASCAR had enough of it pissed
- 4:30them off. So what they did is they took
- 4:32the the Ford Motor out of Rusty's cars, out of that car.
- 4:39They took the motor apart on the asphalt at Sonoma's pit area.
- 4:45Ugly, ugly scene here. They, you know, they, they
- 4:48checked the oxygen in the air at the shop and they build these
- 4:52motors. But tick, you know, real
- 4:53meticulous and NASCAR has proven a point.
- 4:57Take the motor out of the car at Sears .20 years ago, 30 years
- 5:01ago and they, they laid it. They laid it out for all the
- 5:06competitors to see. This is when they found out that
- 5:11Rodger Penske and Rusty were turning their motor 10,000 RPMS
- 5:15and they and they let Robert Yates and and and Doug Yates and
- 5:19Roush, they were able to see their competitors parts work
- 5:25your ass off. What?
- 5:26What Rusty had was the light rotating parts called inertia.
- 5:30You get on the gas and it goes. Instead of putting gear in the
- 5:33car, it's got light rotating parts.
- 5:36Rusty's turn to 10,000 RPMS. He sets QuickTime 10 times that
- 5:40year. Unfair to let everybody see what
- 5:44you did to get this advantage. So NASCAR since then, they want
- 5:48to see everybody's motors. TRD messed up and they rebuilt
- 5:53the motor without NASCAR looking at it.
- 5:56Makes sense once again. Let's let's try it.
- 6:00Danny Hamlin won Bristol, right? They didn't let NASCAR see it
- 6:05before they rebuilt it. And here it was that it was back
- 6:08in March. I mean, talk about a kick in the
- 6:11nuts, right? But here, here's what's funny
- 6:14about it all. No race team builds her damn
- 6:17motors. OK, All right, let's say Richard
- 6:21Childress does. But, you know, you got DEI and
- 6:23you got a collaboration. All these motors are built by,
- 6:27OK, let's say race teams. But yes and no, right?
- 6:30So TR DS over here. It's all their fault.
- 6:34You know, Denny Hamlin sitting at home with his kids and they
- 6:38penalize him. He's like, wait, what?
- 6:41So, I mean, this is how it goes in the sport.
- 6:44I guess Denny's supposed to watch him build the motors.
- 6:47And I guess crew chief, you know, Gabe Hart, supposed to
- 6:50watch him build the motors. Listen, it is what it is, OK?
- 6:54I broke it down for you. You get it?
- 6:57You understand it. All this is to control
- 7:02competition. Let me see your motor.
- 7:06I don't want you to get too big of an advantage like Mark Martin
- 7:10said on catching up with Mark Martin, Double file restarts all
- 7:16of the cars the same, all the motors the same, and we wonder
- 7:20why the hell everybody's running into each other, spinning each
- 7:23other out. I'm not, I'm not bashing NASCAR
- 7:27by any means. I'm just telling you what this
- 7:28is all about. NASCAR says.
- 7:31I want to see your motor, you know, used to be where they just
- 7:35check the compression, check the cubic inch and that was it,
- 7:39right? Check the compression, check the
- 7:42cubic inch. There you go.
- 7:44Now they want to see your motor. In case you doing something,
- 7:48they might tell another team, hey, look at Rusty Wallace's
- 7:51motor that we just put all over the pits.
- 7:54It's got light rotating parts now.
- 7:57And now those other teams, they go to work, you know, and they
- 8:00might find it. So All right, listen, I broke it
- 8:02down for you. I don't know what else to say.
- 8:05You guys respond right here. TR It's TR DS fault now.
- 8:10Now all of a sudden, is it Denny's fault?
- 8:11Is it Gabe? I mean, Joe Gibbs sitting on the
- 8:14couch in the house. TRDTRD OK, Then you got Roush
- 8:22Yates. Then you got another Chevrolet.
- 8:26You know, Chevrolet's got their motor bill and things.
- 8:28So this this this is a case we're basically an outside
- 8:32source. TRD is an outside source.
- 8:35They're not in Joe Gibbs, they're not in there.
- 8:37They're not in Joe Gibbs shop working on the race car, working
- 8:40on the motors TR DS up the road. They somewhere around, but they
- 8:44they're not a Joe Gibbs shop. All right, respond right here.
- 8:48Big penalty Danny Hamlin still in the playoffs, but instead in
- 8:51seat first or second. He lost 75 driver championship
- 8:56points. Ten playoff points now, instead
- 8:59of Danny Hamlin being here, he'd be here.
- 9:02But he's in the playoffs. All right, everybody, remember,
- 9:04we are in podcast form. Listen to this on your way home.
- 9:08Listen to us on iTunes or Spotify.
- 9:10Until then, I got to get back to working on my dirt car.
- 9:13This this damn NASCAR For one thing.
- 9:16Austin Dillon Rain at Michigan.
