- 0:00What's up y'all? You're listening to the Extra
- 0:02Point college football podcast. I'm your host Jacob Carne is
- 0:06joined as always by my Co host Daniel Hammock.
- 0:09Daniel it is. I think both of us have said
- 0:11this is our favorite week of the year.
- 0:14It is rivalry week. Thanksgiving as a whole is not
- 0:17one of my favorite holidays, but because of the week that it is,
- 0:20you get a short work week, you get like family and friends and
- 0:23good food on Thanksgiving. A lot to be thankful for.
- 0:27If you're like super into good deals, I guess you got good
- 0:30deals all week. Yeah.
- 0:33But then I mean, most importantly, you you get
- 0:35football on Thanksgiving. Lions always play at noon,
- 0:38Cowboys at 4:00. I wish we were getting Texas,
- 0:41Texas AM at night like we used to.
- 0:43You know, pre 2012, that was the best way to end the day.
- 0:46We had the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night sometime.
- 0:49That was nice where we lost that.
- 0:50But Friday, Saturday, rivalry week in college football.
- 0:56It is the best week for college football of the year.
- 0:58Rivalries are still what makes it.
- 1:01It's the greatest thing in our sport is rivalries.
- 1:03There's nothing like it in the world.
- 1:06It's here, man. We made it yeah, this is this
- 1:10week is number 1 and #2 is opening weekend of of Labor Day
- 1:15for college football. I agree with you, short work
- 1:18week definitely does it for me. And then there's just something
- 1:22about like meaningful football, like the week 1 ones are
- 1:25awesome, but this is like especially now with 12 team
- 1:29playoff, you're punching your ticket, you're stopping
- 1:33somebody, you're ruining their chance.
- 1:35So it's just a great time. I love it, Daniel.
- 1:39We're going to mix things up a little bit today, but on today's
- 1:42episode 2 questions we've got as we head into rivalry week.
- 1:47We are going to pause the XPR until after rivalry week for
- 1:51this week. We've scheduled with
- 1:52Thanksgiving, still waiting on data to come in, so we'll have
- 1:54that again next week. We're going to talk about three
- 1:57games. We're not picking that.
- 1:58We're excited to watch 3U matchups to watch this weekend,
- 2:01which again, I think best week of the year for uniform matchups
- 2:05and I'll explain why later. We'll pick four games against
- 2:09the spread. We're going to pick the Invesco
- 2:12QQQ and I'm just kidding the the clean old fashioned hate Lone
- 2:19Star showdown, Texas and Texas A&M, the game Michigan and Ohio
- 2:23State. I don't know what we're calling
- 2:25Tennessee Vandy, but it's in the state rivalry and that one means
- 2:28a lot more than it usually does this year.
- 2:31And then we got. Three stars.
- 2:33Maybe I'll look this up before we get to it.
- 2:36It's not a shot at their player personnel anyways.
- 2:38Keep going. No.
- 2:39No, no, it's the flag. I actually, I like the Tennessee
- 2:41State flag, by the way, good state flag.
- 2:43It's a good one. And then our college, our
- 2:46updated College Football Playoff predictions.
- 2:49And Daniel, I'm going to dive into I I've got 2 here.
- 2:52I've got my my one that, you know, if we're projecting the
- 2:56way games will play out, what I think should be the 12.
- 3:00But I had trouble with this because then I thought about
- 3:03what I think will be the 12. And if this is a prediction,
- 3:05that's what I should pick. So we'll address that as well.
- 3:09Daniel, as we as we head into Rivalry Week, what's your first
- 3:13question you've got heading into Rivalry Week this weekend?
- 3:16For what it's worth, there is no official name for Tennessee
- 3:19versus Vanderbilt. The names that have been
- 3:22suggested is the Audi Bowl and the Vol Bowl.
- 3:25I don't know how. Van der Vany would never agree.
- 3:28The Vol Bowl but anyways, yeah, so my first question is
- 3:32pertaining to Texas A&N and Alabama.
- 3:36What, Jacob? What's more likely to happen,
- 3:39Auburn beating Alabama or Texas being Texas?
- 3:42A&NII mean, I it seems obvious if you look at how terrible
- 3:49maybe a team has been this year that Texas has actually been
- 3:54favored for most of the year and now A&M has been favored on the
- 3:59road slightly. You know, it's a 2 1/2 point
- 4:02line for A and Alabama. You would think this is more
- 4:06than a touchdown. You'd think it's 10 points, 5
- 4:101/2 points Jacob. Got up a little.
- 4:13Bit yeah, so that's a I, I don't like to be Mr. OK.
- 4:20I do like to be Mr. Conspiracy Theorist for those who know me.
- 4:23But Alabama playing at Auburn at night for the first time since
- 4:292003, I think, or 2004. It's just it doesn't happen very
- 4:36often. Most of the time they're playing
- 4:38at 3:30. And I don't know, man.
- 4:42Auburn has nothing to lose. I don't think they usually ever
- 4:45have anything to lose playing Alabama.
- 4:48This is a lot of pressure for Alabama right here.
- 4:51It's a pressure spot. Auburn played really good
- 4:53defense this year, so they're not just going to let Alabama
- 4:55down the field. It's going to be a dogfight.
- 4:58So I'm certainly interested to see this game.
- 5:02New quarterback for Auburn, Deuce Knight. 6 touchdowns
- 5:08against Mercer. I know it was Mercer.
- 5:09This is this is going to go one of two ways I think.
- 5:11I think this is going to be either a crazy 4 overtime game
- 5:15to either Auburn wins outright or just crazy 4 overtime game or
- 5:18Bama blows him out. I don't think anything in
- 5:20between is going to happen in this game like Auburn wins or
- 5:22Bama blows him out. I think that's my 2 outcomes in
- 5:26this game. It's funny for for all the
- 5:29mystique that's talked about with Jordan Hare and Auburn, it
- 5:33seemed it's funny because it seems to creep up on Alabama
- 5:37specifically because other teams have had no problem winning in
- 5:41Jordan Air. But you know, it's an odd year.
- 5:44And I said Saban lost more than once at Auburn.
- 5:47So excited to watch that one. It it the the point spread.
- 5:50Honestly, Daniel makes me want to swap out one of our games
- 5:52because I was like, yeah, let's pick games with consequence this
- 5:54week. You know, all all of our games
- 5:57are ranked to be ranked AP games.
- 5:59But yeah, that one, the point spreads, making me think we
- 6:03should have picked that one. That should be a good one.
- 6:05All right, my first one, Daniel, what match up this week will
- 6:08have the largest impact of the season, an Iron Bowl.
- 6:11I wrote as one of them. You've got the clean old
- 6:13fashioned hate, which we're going to talk about.
- 6:15Lone Star Showdown. You've got the game, vanity,
- 6:17Tennessee. We're going to pick Oklahoma,
- 6:20LSU. Is that just my mystique with
- 6:23LSU saying they've got a shot in this?
- 6:26Oklahoma's defense is going to keep them in any game.
- 6:28I think LSU's defense is pretty good if they're going to
- 6:30actually, you know, show up and play the game on Saturday.
- 6:35I don't think, you know, that's going to be another Missouri,
- 6:38Oklahoma game of no scoring in that one.
- 6:42But yeah, I think that's my I'm excited to watch and see.
- 6:45It's rivalry weekend. I know the tropes of, you know,
- 6:48throw, throw the, you know, throw the season out the window,
- 6:52throw the point spread out the window.
- 6:53It's rivalry week. I don't know about that.
- 6:56That's not, you know, that that hasn't always correlated to the
- 6:59tropes of that. But I am excited to see if half,
- 7:02if one of these teams upsets the other one and maybe one of these
- 7:06games where it's the Super Bowl for the other team, right?
- 7:09Like it's maybe one team has everything on the line.
- 7:12The other team has nothing to lose and and it's their Super
- 7:15Bowl, like, right. So you get you get that if
- 7:17you're going to get someone's best effort of the season where,
- 7:21yeah, you know, it's it might be, Oh, well, they're, you know,
- 7:23playing for a bowl game. They haven't played like this
- 7:26all season. And now they give their best
- 7:28effort in a game like the Iron Bowl.
- 7:30So excited to see which matchup will have the largest impact on
- 7:33the season. Because you could have the
- 7:35outcome of some of these games impact like multiple playoff
- 7:39teams. If, you know, if someone gets
- 7:41out and a couple more teams get in as a result or someone's
- 7:43resume gets worse. So excited to see the impact of
- 7:46that this weekend. Daniel, what's your second
- 7:49question? Yeah, my second one still, Of
- 7:51course, we're right here talking about the playoffs.
- 7:54So what conference is more likely to get a second College
- 8:00Football Playoff team in? Is it the Big 12?
- 8:01Is the ACC? You're not both put these on
- 8:05notice as being, you know, single, single team
- 8:09representation in the CFP single team conferences.
- 8:12So will the ACC get somebody in? I guess you're looking at Miami.
- 8:17If that's possibility. Is Miami good enough with a win
- 8:19versus PIT? Because they have to beat PIT
- 8:22versus, you know, the Big 12 with a couple of folks still in
- 8:26that, you know, obviously A&M or excuse me, Texas Tech is in
- 8:29there as the top dog. But Utah stayed alive last week.
- 8:33BYU is technically still alive. So, you know, there's definitely
- 8:37some some opportunities there. That Utah game was unbelievable.
- 8:42I was like, they were. Dead 5 different times.
- 8:45Man, that was crazy. Five different ways.
- 8:47Yeah. I am intrigued by the ACC.
- 8:50You got a team like Virginia that is just like, hey, you
- 8:53control your own destiny, win and you're in the ACC
- 8:56Championship. All you have to do is checks
- 8:58notes, beat the one team you can't beat.
- 9:01So that should that should be really, that should be really
- 9:03easy. Who's on interim coach?
- 9:06Right. It's like, hey, you just have to
- 9:09beat this team. That, you know, is what I'm
- 9:11saying. I'm looking at the record here.
- 9:13Are they three wins, three and eight?
- 9:17Something like that. Three and eight.
- 9:18Yeah, they're three and eight. They fired their head coach.
- 9:22You're a 10 1/2 point favorite. All you have to do is win this
- 9:26game and you're in. And Daniel, I'm like, again, I'm
- 9:28like at the Wikipedia and I'm like, since 2000, that's so many
- 9:32times. They've won twice.
- 9:33So. Oh.
- 9:34My gosh, I did not realize it was that bad.
- 9:37Both in Charlottesville, Games in Charlottesville, for what
- 9:41it's worth. Yeah, this is.
- 9:44We'll see. We will see.
- 9:46That's fun. All right, Dan, my last
- 9:49question, when and if will head to
- 10:04I understand the logic, but I still don't like the result in
- 10:07that. The playoff committee compares
- 10:10these teams in pods of three and six, right?
- 10:13So basically they like each of the members will make a 1 to 25
- 10:16ranking, or 1 to 30 or something like that.
- 10:19And basically then they'll start at the bottom or they'll start
- 10:21at the top and say, OK, like the average of our ranking is, you
- 10:24know, these three teams get the highest number of points, right?
- 10:28Let's discuss these three and figure out how do we need to
- 10:30rank 1-2 and three based on this?
- 10:32But they're only looking at those three teams.
- 10:34OK, now they go to the next pod of three, six teams.
- 10:37Then they'll look at those teams and say, OK, rank those in
- 10:40order. So there's they said the reason
- 10:43like Notre Dame, Miami, right? It's the biggest talking point
- 10:45right now is that they've not been in the same pod yet.
- 10:49So if you're a Miami fan, you're watching Miami creep up because
- 10:52it's like head to head will be considered within those pods,
- 10:55right? So are we are we going to get to
- 10:57a point even after this week where Notre Dame and Miami are
- 11:00finally, you know, they're 8 and 11 or something where it's like,
- 11:05OK, you're in the same like pod now.
- 11:07And now does head to head matter?
- 11:09I'm, I'm really curious about it because I also heard someone say
- 11:11you can't sit here and tell me you honestly think like Miami's
- 11:14a better team than Notre Dame, right?
- 11:17Or Notre Dame's a you know, you think Miami's a better team than
- 11:20Notre Dame right now. And I'm like, no, I don't think
- 11:22that. But I also think it's foolish to
- 11:25be like the game in week 1 should not matter at all.
- 11:27I think that's flawed logic because because to me, it was
- 11:31the same people that are saying we need to settle those in the
- 11:34field that are also the ones saying Notre Dame should
- 11:36definitely be ranked ahead of Miami.
- 11:38And it makes no sense. It makes no sense.
- 11:39They're both tended to. They've both played extremely
- 11:42comparable schedules. Miami has a way better win than
- 11:46Notre Dame. It does.
- 11:47But Miami also has a way worse loss than Notre Dame has.
- 11:51So to me, it cancels it out. There's other ones, right?
- 11:56Are we going to get to the point where Oklahoma, Michigan are
- 12:00both tended to and fighting for a playoff spot, Alabama and
- 12:03Georgia? Can that matter for seeding at
- 12:05the end of the year, even though they're they're one loss record
- 12:07might be a little bit different. Oklahoma and Alabama, you know,
- 12:11if maybe their record's different at the end of the year
- 12:14and they're playing for for seeding.
- 12:16So I'm curious when and if head to head results are going to
- 12:19matter because they should. Again, if if we're going to say
- 12:23it, you know, what happened in the field matters, then it
- 12:26absolutely has to like 10 and two between Notre Dame and
- 12:29Miami. This isn't, with all due
- 12:31respect, this isn't North Texas and Notre Dame both attended to,
- 12:37right? Like, these are two Power four
- 12:40teams who've played extremely comparable schedules, who have a
- 12:45head to And I think if you're excusing
- 12:59that, I don't think it's flawed logic, that's all.
- 13:02So I'm curious if it's going to matter for the committee.
- 13:05I mean, Speaking of flawed logic, you've got to like take
- 13:08into consider like the we, we only hear from the chairman now
- 13:14we like to all throw. I know I like to get after, you
- 13:17know, the CFP committee because I feel like it does not sound
- 13:20like they care. It does not look like they love
- 13:24ball. It's just a bunch of people
- 13:26going and punching a clock it seems like and doing a job that
- 13:29they have to do. Just cuz this job doesn't mean
- 13:32you have to hate it. But I would love to hear like
- 13:35you're talking about these conversations they're having.
- 13:37I would love to hear like if there is a voice of truth, a
- 13:40voice of reason in there that is speaking logically about
- 13:44everything, you know, and like they are hamstrung by the
- 13:48numbers of well, this is how we do it.
- 13:51We do it in these pods. And like, you know, we have to
- 13:54let the process play out. But there is someone saying,
- 13:57guys, this doesn't make any sense.
- 13:59You've got like, I just if if I knew there's someone in there
- 14:02that is logical, I would feel, I guess better about it.
- 14:06But in general, I mean, how much money would they make, Jacob, if
- 14:11they just streamed that, if they just streamed those meetings and
- 14:15had, you know, you didn't have to have Heather Dennich waiting
- 14:18outside with like a glass against the door hoping she
- 14:21hears something. You could just say, hey, if you
- 14:24want to pay this extra subscription, you know, whatever
- 14:27pay-per-view to watch, you know, them.
- 14:30I I mean, everybody, every college football fan would buy
- 14:32that, you know, and. How about this?
- 14:34ESPN is already paying for an hour time slot for our rankings
- 14:38revealed. That is pointless.
- 14:40Why don't we actually show some of the process, show us cut up
- 14:43clips from them discussing it. You know, how many more viewers
- 14:45you'd get and how many, how much more that advertising budget
- 14:48could be, you know, through the roof?
- 14:51Yeah, I'm with you. It's ridiculous.
- 14:53OK, Daniel, what are three games we're not picking that you're
- 14:58excited to watch this week? And I imagine it's probably more
- 15:01than three. But what are what are the games
- 15:04we've got our eye on? I did narrow them down, but
- 15:07first quick team of the week for this past week is Pittsburgh.
- 15:12Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Panthers.
- 15:14You and I both called that game. As far as picking George them to
- 15:18win over George Tech, it was a difficult one for me to pick.
- 15:23That was the WTF Game of the week.
- 15:25I should have said that on the podcast.
- 15:26We said it after the fact, but wrong team Favorite WTF game of
- 15:29the week. Yeah, we were all over that one.
- 15:31Yeah, 2 1/2 point spread. And I think it was just like
- 15:36felt dirty not taking like I just was like, I have to take
- 15:39them. They're going to win this game.
- 15:43It just was kind of in the fashion that they did.
- 15:46Jacob, they wanted a couple ways.
- 15:49The first way was they just scored 28 unanswered points at
- 15:53the beginning of the game. And so you and I fulfilling
- 15:56really good about our pick at that point.
- 15:58But they took the counterpunch. George Tech did not go away.
- 16:02They came back. And then at a moment at the end
- 16:06of the game, they had a, you know, opportunity to not
- 16:08necessarily good tie or anything like that, but to draw this into
- 16:11another close game. And Pittsburgh had to answer.
- 16:14You know, they were only a touchdown up if they gave the
- 16:17ball back. Georgia Tech had the momentum.
- 16:19They went down and scored. So anyways, kudos, Pittsburgh in
- 16:23the driver's seat somewhere, but they are they're hitching a ride
- 16:28for potentially the ACC championship.
- 16:30They do have to play Miami. Huge game this week.
- 16:33So good. Good game by Pittsburgh this
- 16:35past week. Maybe Naruzi knew what he was
- 16:38doing when he did not declare Notre Dame a must win.
- 16:43With that, the three games we're watching, always the Egg Bowl,
- 16:47this one was on the cutting room floor.
- 16:49We were trying to put this one on the picks.
- 16:52There just were some other games that were just a little bit
- 16:54above it in relevance and a little bit closer spread.
- 16:58This is only 7 half point spread.
- 17:00Ole Miss is favored. But I mean, Jacob, this still
- 17:04feels like the most drama game. It's always got the most drama.
- 17:08But now you add the Lane Kiffin like he's going to make his a
- 17:12mysterious announcement the next day.
- 17:13What if he makes an announcement at halftime?
- 17:15What I, I don't think he's going to get off the field if I don't
- 17:18know who The Who the broadcast crew is, but there may be a
- 17:21chance that he's walking off the field and he just tells him I'm
- 17:25not leaving, I'm staying or something like that.
- 17:27Or tries to drop a hint of, you know, the weather in Baton Rouge
- 17:32is, you know, 60° sounds like a nice day.
- 17:35He's going to say something crazy pit in Miami.
- 17:37I just mentioned it, obviously with Pittsburgh being my team of
- 17:39the week, pit in Miami, that one I think has the most consequence
- 17:42for the playoff in the ACC this week and Miami has a very small
- 17:47chance of even making the ACC championship.
- 17:49So it's Miami shot to maybe being at large team.
- 17:53They have to finish it out and go 10 and two to be considered.
- 17:56And then on the flip side, obviously pit trying to make the
- 17:58ACC championship and last but not least, the iron ball.
- 18:01We how are we not picking the Iron Bowl?
- 18:04Well, again, we've got some games we have to pick and Iron
- 18:08Bowl is just not one of them. And it's Auburn's fault.
- 18:12Maybe, maybe it won't be like this next year.
- 18:15I hope so. But even with Auburn, with an
- 18:19interim coach, they're at home at night with a, you know, only,
- 18:25you know, so 5 1/2 point spread for for Alabama.
- 18:27So that's going to be a fun one. So I definitely, I'm, I'm
- 18:30looking at that one, I'm going to have all eyes on that,
- 18:34especially since all the other games we're picking are either
- 18:36Friday or early Saturday, so my eyes will be glued to the Iron
- 18:41Bowl in the nightcap on Saturday night.
- 18:43Yeah, obviously my humble too love rivalry weekend, Daniel,
- 18:47the uniform matchup of the week surprised me.
- 18:50Penn State and Nebraska is what won it for me.
- 18:52I something about those NBC cameras, too.
- 18:55They just look a lot better. That broadcast is so crisp.
- 18:58Always. Yeah, the red pants, it worked a
- 19:03lot better than I thought it was going to the blue versus red
- 19:05that night. It just looked like I had
- 19:07another quad box on TV and I was like, yeah, that one just like
- 19:11it sticks out with the with the match up, right?
- 19:14Very simple but very clean colors Pop.
- 19:18I loved it. Excellent game.
- 19:20Daniel This is the best weekend for uniforms of the college
- 19:25football season because a lot of rivals have opposite colors.
- 19:30And so you get a lot of heavy contrast this week in rivalry
- 19:33week because usually always one school was started before the
- 19:37other. And so when you start another,
- 19:39like especially in state school, you typically go some form of
- 19:43opposite colors. So Iron Bowl is a good example.
- 19:45And that's one of the ones that's making the list this week
- 19:47for uniform matchups. To watch the Iron Bowl, you've
- 19:50got the blue and orange against the the Crimson in white of
- 19:55Alabama. So that one always looks good,
- 19:57especially when it's at Auburn. I think it's the best version of
- 20:00the uniform matchup in this rivalry.
- 20:02That one's excellent. Two more that I think might be
- 20:04the uniform matchup of the year on the game.
- 20:07And again, I'll say this, this is on Michigan.
- 20:11For the love of God, Daniel, this game is in Ann Arbor.
- 20:15What do we want? We want maze pants.
- 20:19We want. We want maze pants.
- 20:22Shirts and their normal helmet. We want maze pants.
- 20:26This is the important part. I don't know why Michigan's been
- 20:28all, you know, big game, all Blues.
- 20:31It's horrific. They should be arrested.
- 20:34The people making these decisions should be should be
- 20:38held accountable. Straight jail.
- 20:41I mean, the here's my thing is, if you don't want to punish them
- 20:44with the Connor Stallion stuff, fine.
- 20:45But can we get some vacated wins for wearing blue pants at home?
- 20:48I mean, for the for the love of God, someone's got to be
- 20:51punished. This is a real issue.
- 20:53This is something, yeah. They can't just.
- 20:55It's really important to me. Getting away with it is what
- 20:58you're saying they can't keep. Getting away with it.
- 21:00We need Naze pants. The other one, Daniel.
- 21:03Only a few rivalries have wear color V color and some have done
- 21:07it. Sometimes one does it every
- 21:09year. Do you know where I'm going?
- 21:12Feel like you've got a curveball?
- 21:13It's probably something. Not a curveball, just a Big 10
- 21:17game. OK, that might confuse you.
- 21:21And there's my hand. OK, you're going to sunny
- 21:26California, aren't you? Bingo.
- 21:29USC versus UCLA. Yeah, they do color V color and
- 21:34it's awesome. And usually I'll say if you've
- 21:37got same color pants, sometimes it's like I like, it's a little,
- 21:40you know, it's two different shades of gold.
- 21:42Don't love that. But dude, that powder blue
- 21:45against that, what do they officially call US CS red?
- 21:48Is it scarlet, Crimson, maroon? I don't know.
- 21:52It's really good looking on the field.
- 21:55So that's always one of my favorite ones to see is USC
- 21:57versus UCLA color V color. Excellent, excellent, excellent.
- 22:00Golden Cardinal. Thank you, Cardinal and Gold,
- 22:03there you go. So very much looking forward to
- 22:06that one on. Are they playing Friday or
- 22:10Saturday? I think it's Saturday.
- 22:12They're Saturday. That one looked great on TVI did
- 22:14have some bonus ones because again, it's just it's a great
- 22:16week for uniforms, Daniel. So if you'll permit me, I have
- 22:19four more to mention. Do it.
- 22:22Texas versus Texas A&M will be excellent, especially in Austin.
- 22:25That'll be really good. The burnt orange and the white
- 22:29and the maroon for Texas A&M. Washington and Oregon should be
- 22:33a good one. That'll that'll fight under the
- 22:35radar. But Washington has some good
- 22:37home uniforms and depending on what Oregon wears, that could be
- 22:39a really good one. Oklahoma and LSU, I need really
- 22:43good Yeah, I almost that that almost made the made the cut.
- 22:47It's up to Oklahoma as long as they don't wear something weird
- 22:49like they did last year. Yeah, goodness, you're.
- 22:51Right, not I. Horrific.
- 22:53Yeah, yeah. Vacated wins.
- 22:55You know, we got to start punishing these teams.
- 22:58NCAA do something. They have no power.
- 23:00Florida and Florida State is my last one.
- 23:03This one it has looked good but I think it's usually better in
- 23:07Gainesville because Florida status can get away uniforms and
- 23:10they can wear either colored pants and it look really good as
- 23:13long as Florida doesn't go. I just don't like Florida's
- 23:15orange white orange combo. But even when it's in
- 23:18Tallahassee the orange white blue combo looks really good.
- 23:22But that one could be really good I.
- 23:23Think it's going to look great on Cartoon Network, You know,
- 23:26where I think they're broadcasting or Nickelodeon, I
- 23:28can't remember. It's on PBS Public Service.
- 23:31OK, Daniel, we've got. State playing to get into a bowl
- 23:34game. By the way, Florida could do the
- 23:37funniest thing ever and win a meaningless game that ruins
- 23:41Florida states. I mean, this didn't ruin Florida
- 23:44states here. They're going to try to get to
- 23:45the Music City Bowl, but. What's the I'm looking at the
- 23:47spread here. What's the spread on this game?
- 23:49Florida -2 1/2. So they're favorite.
- 23:52Yeah. I'm like, I was like.
- 23:54It's that one. Of your favorites, Yeah.
- 23:55Yeah, they are. OK, so yeah, that that one
- 23:58should be a good uniform matchup.
- 23:59Daniel 4 picks against the spread and we'll end with our
- 24:03updated playoff predictions. We, we flipped it up a little
- 24:05bit order wise because our our playoff projection will have
- 24:09some game results baked in that we're picking this week.
- 24:11So had to get the picks done first.
- 24:14Let's start on Friday at 3:30. The extra point will be on the
- 24:19scene in Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Invesco QQQ Atlanta
- 24:24Gridiron Classic. Some people are asking, is this
- 24:27the best ever match up in the Invesco QQQ Atlanta Gridiron
- 24:31Classic? The answer is yes.
- 24:34It's the only match up so far. Georgia is a 13 1/2 point
- 24:41favorite in the clean old fashioned hate joke about the
- 24:44name of the game because it's horrible and because Georgia
- 24:47Tech sold a home game in one of the I I really do believe this.
- 24:51You and I have both been to games about with that stadium.
- 24:53I think it's one of the greatest venues in college football
- 24:55because dude, it's I love college football because of for
- 24:58a lot of reasons, old stadiums that you can tell it's like it
- 25:02started one way and it just got added on to you Got one of the
- 25:05oldest stadiums in college football in an urban downtown
- 25:09Atlanta. It's a gorgeous place to watch a
- 25:11football game. Really not a bad seat in the
- 25:13house. It stinks that this game is not
- 25:14on campus, but Georgia, a 13 1/2 point favorite.
- 25:18I do have a question. Is this a like true neutral site
- 25:20game? Like I know Georgia Tech like
- 25:21gave up a home game, but. Ticket Tech is considered the
- 25:26home team because they got the initial ticket allotment and
- 25:31everything. This is still Georgia Tech's
- 25:32home game. They're just they've done this
- 25:35with Mercedes-Benz for other teams.
- 25:37And so I think that they've been able to have that as some sort
- 25:41of a deal. Like is Georgia going to have an
- 25:43end zone painted with their name on it or is Georgia Tech going
- 25:45to be in both end? Zones.
- 25:47No. Yeah, they're going to have both
- 25:48end zones. It's going to be a Georgia Tech
- 25:50home game at MBS. Yeah, so.
- 25:55Because Georgia Tech usually has a lot more fans than Georgia
- 25:57fans whenever they play this game.
- 25:58So definitely a home game for sure more Georgia Tech fans.
- 26:01Daniel, where, where are you going in this one?
- 26:03Georgia favored by 13 1/2. Tech could not knock Georgia out
- 26:07of the playoff, but at least make it.
- 26:10I don't know, I think Georgia's in, but they could at least get
- 26:13a Super Bowl win. And this 113 1/2 the spread this
- 26:16game had a lot more consequence before the pick game last week.
- 26:20Georgia Tech had at least make a case for the playoff with a win.
- 26:23Where are you going to this game in Atlanta?
- 26:25Yeah, you're right about that, and you're right about Bobby
- 26:28Dodd. It's a great place to watch a
- 26:30game. I've seen nearly 50 games there,
- 26:33which is crazy to think. Mercedes-Benz is very nice.
- 26:37It will have a big game atmosphere.
- 26:39Personally, I'm excited going because I feel like it'll be the
- 26:43more easy in and out, right? All that easy to get food, easy
- 26:49to get food, the bathroom, it's more comfortable.
- 26:52It's new, Bobby. Dad is old.
- 26:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's definitely bad luck for the
- 26:56Falcons. We're not going to get into
- 26:57that. OK, So this game, Jacob, I mean,
- 27:01you've got two teams that are kind of going in different
- 27:04directions. You've got Georgia, who's
- 27:06hitting their stride. And you know, if you look 4
- 27:10weeks ago, 5 weeks ago, I think he had stake Shapiro out of
- 27:13Atlanta saying if they played today, George Tech would be
- 27:16favored. No, they wouldn't have.
- 27:19For what? It's they would not have.
- 27:20For what it's worth, he, you know, may have not known Ball
- 27:23ever in his life, but he's he's saying that.
- 27:27And it was mostly public perception because Georgia was
- 27:29playing a lot of close games. And at that time, Georgia Tech
- 27:32was not well, I guess they'd, you know, played some close
- 27:35games that they'd come out on top.
- 27:37Georgia at least had one loss as we hit November.
- 27:40Georgia has definitely seemed like they've hit their stride
- 27:43defensively. Offensively, they've been pretty
- 27:45solid all year, but they're starting to find some of those
- 27:47explosive plays that were looting them early in the year.
- 27:50So they can kind of go on those death marches.
- 27:52They can also, you know, have a big play here, big play there.
- 27:55Noah Thomas surprisingly has been very good after the catch.
- 27:58He seems like a big body guy that's just going to go up and
- 28:00get it, but he's had multiple long touchdown runs where he
- 28:04catches the ball and runs for it.
- 28:05So how about these quarterbacks in this game last year, it was a
- 28:10complete dichotomy. You had Hans King versus Carson
- 28:14Beck statue in in the pocket versus, you know, Hans King
- 28:17who's going to do everything he can try to get in 15 car wrecks
- 28:20during the game minimum. Now you got both these guys that
- 28:23both about 2500 yards passing. Hans King almost 900 yards
- 28:29rushing so far this year, you know, with big game against
- 28:31Georgia and then bowl game, I mean, he could eclipse 1000
- 28:34yards on the ground, which would not be a small feat.
- 28:37Hanes Kings had a great year. Some of their their receivers
- 28:40have not been what they were last year, which I think has
- 28:44been their biggest issue. Downfield, throwing, things like
- 28:48that. As far as my my take on the game
- 28:50is 13 1/2 point spread. I think George is winning this
- 28:53game. If there's one thing George does
- 28:55well defensively, it is stop the run.
- 28:58And I think the teams that have given Georgia the most trouble
- 29:01this year have been the ones that can light you up in the air
- 29:05and get first downs through the air specifically.
- 29:08So who has that been? That's been Tennessee, that's
- 29:11been Alabama, that's been Ole Miss Georgia still won two out
- 29:14of three of those games. But they you know, it was it was
- 29:19high processor at quarterback that was giving them issues
- 29:22could scramble and get a first down hangs King can absolutely
- 29:24run for first downs. But I think that, you know, it'd
- 29:27be there's there's multiple times that he's missed downfield
- 29:30players in the past game. I also think Georgia has a
- 29:33better run 1-2 punch running the ball offensively now and looks
- 29:37like Chauncey Bones probably going to be back for this game.
- 29:39But seeing Nate Frazier hit, yeah, seeing Nate Frazier hit
- 29:43his stride regardless has given me confidence in them.
- 29:46See what Bo Walker did last week.
- 29:47I mean, I know it was against nobody, but three touchdowns and
- 29:51and then Gunnar Stockton just seems like he's made for this
- 29:53moment. It just seems like it's in his
- 29:54DNA. He's not scared of this.
- 29:57He doesn't run from it. I know a lot of people are going
- 30:00to look at the past two years, which has been great job by
- 30:03Brent Key and and Co having closer games.
- 30:06Two years ago, I believe it was a nine point victory for Georgia
- 30:09or 8 point something. It was much closer than normal.
- 30:12And then last year, of course, the 8 overtime, the great innate
- 30:15call by Joe Tess, which again is calling this game again, which
- 30:19that's fun, but an 8 overtime game think has a lot of people,
- 30:23you know, thinking Georgia Tech or it's going to be a close
- 30:26game. I'm not saying it's not, but I'm
- 30:29going to lay the points. How about that -13 1/2 give me
- 30:33Georgia. I think this is a team that's,
- 30:37you know, ready for this, this situation there have nothing
- 30:42look forward to because they don't even know if they're going
- 30:44to be in the SEC Championship. There's no look ahead spot for
- 30:47Georgia. It is simply the team in front
- 30:50of you and I just think they're the better team.
- 30:52So I don't think it's going to be like smoke and mirrors,
- 30:54anything like that. I think Georgia's just going to
- 30:56beat them at their own game. I think Georgia Tech will have
- 30:59some success against Georgia. I'm certainly don't think that
- 31:02it's going to be a blowout, but it's all it's less than two
- 31:06touchdowns and I feel good about that.
- 31:07So give me Georgia, lay the points.
- 31:09Daniel, how many points do you think Georgia Tech needs to win
- 31:12this game? 3637.
- 31:15Right. I think the same.
- 31:18I think Georgia's, I think Georgia's getting at least 35
- 31:21because here's the thing, like they their defense, and that's
- 31:25what we've tried to sell years. Georgia Tech deserves to be
- 31:28ranked highly, although I'm not going to rank them highly in my
- 31:30ballot. Their their defense has just
- 31:33been susceptible to being scored on all year.
- 31:35It has never played an offense that could do it.
- 31:39I just and look, Georgia Tech's going to, I think they're going
- 31:41to get give their best effort against Georgia.
- 31:43I think you're going to see Georgia Tech's best game of the
- 31:45year against Georgia. This is their Super Bowl.
- 31:47So I think that you're going to get Georgia Tech's best effort.
- 31:51But I watch two things specifically that Pitt was able
- 31:54to do last week. That scares me from Georgia
- 31:56Tech. It's 1.
- 31:57Pitt ran the ball at will against Georgia Tech, which
- 32:00opened up the pass game. You're going from that to a
- 32:03Georgia offense that has been elite this year, especially as
- 32:06gunner Stockton has gotten more comfortable both with with his
- 32:10own game and within the offense. He's doing everything and more
- 32:13that Mike Bobo's asking to. The Georgia running game's been
- 32:16elite. The offensive line is healthy.
- 32:18They're they're moving people that that scares me from Georgia
- 32:20Tech. The the other thing is Daniel, I
- 32:22saw the pressure that Pitt was able to get rushing 3 and four
- 32:26guys against this Tech offensive line.
- 32:28And this is a Georgia pass rush that has come on since the
- 32:31second by week. They've gotten better and
- 32:33better. They played a lot of young guys
- 32:35early and Daniel, they're starting to get home against
- 32:39Florida, against Mississippi State, against Texas, playing
- 32:42nobody last week, but they're they're starting to get home
- 32:45rushing four and five guys. To me, if you're Tech like how
- 32:50you win this game is Hans King is Superman, which he has been
- 32:56both against Georgia and this season.
- 33:00I think last year Daniel, he rushed for 110 yards in this
- 33:03game. He led the team in rushing and
- 33:05he had 303 yards in the air. The problem is Daniel, they
- 33:08don't have the receivers they had last year that I can think
- 33:11can be a threat in this game through the air.
- 33:14The Georgia front 7 has been the defense has not been up to a
- 33:17Georgia standard, especially the first half of the year, but
- 33:19they've been a lead at stopping the run.
- 33:21Daniel, I, I have a feeling this is a blowout.
- 33:24You you, you said it. These are two teams going two
- 33:26different directions. Georgia Tech started 8 and O
- 33:28they're now nine and two heading into this game.
- 33:31Georgia looks like they turned a corner.
- 33:33And I think that I, I think Georgia Tech can get to 20
- 33:36points. I don't think they're stopping
- 33:38Georgia from scoring 40. I think this is like a 4520
- 33:42game. I think Georgia wins going away
- 33:45and this one, I think Georgia, specifically Georgia's offense
- 33:48is going to be too much. And Georgia's defence is plenty
- 33:51good enough to, you know, limit scoring to half the possessions.
- 33:55I'll say another glaring thing to watch in this game is
- 33:58Georgia's been one of the best teams in the country in red
- 34:01zone, like points per red zone possession.
- 34:04They're scoring touchdowns in the red zone and Georgia Tech's
- 34:07defence is a 28th in that category.
- 34:09They're they're letting teams score at will in the red zone.
- 34:12You're going to need a lot of touchdowns to win this game.
- 34:14Georgia has an excellent red zone defense on the other side.
- 34:18I don't think it's close in this one.
- 34:20So lay the 13 1/2. Give me the dogs and the clean
- 34:22old fashioned hate. Friday night.
- 34:25For the second time in the last 15 years, we're going to get
- 34:29Texas and Texas A&M. We've got horns up versus horns
- 34:33down, maroon versus burnt orange.
- 34:35This game in Austin, TX won last year and a very, I say boring
- 34:41game because Texas kind of knew A&M's just not scoring the night
- 34:46and we're just going to sit on them then.
- 34:49Pretty boring game if you're just casual fan watching.
- 34:51I liked it because I like watching elite defense, but I
- 34:55get why it was boring. I don't think this one's going
- 34:57to be boring. Daniel Texas, a 2 1/2 point dog
- 35:01at home to Tex A&M, Tex A and M11 and O pretty much locked
- 35:06into the playoff. Texas has, I think A they need a
- 35:10lot of help. You're probably going to hate me
- 35:12saying this if you're an average fan.
- 35:15Texas is not out out of the playoff yet, so they still have
- 35:19everything to play for. I think as well as what makes
- 35:22college football great. You can beat your rival and be
- 35:25able to talk trash all year. That's what college football is
- 35:27all about. Be your rival.
- 35:29Sell some T-shirts. Come.
- 35:31On that's right, 2 1/2 points Daniel ANM favored.
- 35:35Who do you like in this game in Austin?
- 35:36Yeah, Last year it did kind of have the feel of like the Big
- 35:39Brother putting his hand on the little brother's head and he
- 35:42can't reach him, you know? And he was just like, I could
- 35:45stay here all day. That's kind of the vibe I got
- 35:47this year. That was at Kyle Field this year
- 35:52at DKR at home at night. This is just, this is going to
- 35:57be so fun, man. I love this and I think you're
- 36:00right. I'm with you.
- 36:02I think this game is different. I think this one's going to be a
- 36:05high scoring affair. I think both teams can play good
- 36:08defense in situations and I think that's what's going to
- 36:11make this game exciting. I think you're going to see two
- 36:14offenses that can move the ball that have elite players and then
- 36:19you're going to see moments where they have to do it.
- 36:21And I think you're going to see that go both ways.
- 36:23You've seen Marcel Reed get down to South Carolina and come all
- 36:27the way back. Did last week Texas playing
- 36:30Fiddlesticks with Arkansas. They it was the worst sandwich
- 36:35game they could have ever been in.
- 36:36They just lost to Georgia, had their hearts basically ripped
- 36:39out, you know, and and that having to get back up off the
- 36:43mat and then they're looking ahead to this game.
- 36:46I mean, everybody in their right mind would be doing that, and
- 36:49they had to play Arkansas. And it's this lowly Arkansas
- 36:53that's, you know, got Bobby Petrino interim head coach.
- 36:55And Arkansas would not go away even at the end of the game.
- 36:59But what it showed me was, yes, Arkansas's bad defense, but 52
- 37:04points is important against anybody, I'll put that, you
- 37:08know, whether you're playing an FCS school or a powerful
- 37:12program. And they did it out of necessity
- 37:15because Arkansas had them figured out a couple times.
- 37:19For that reason, I think that A&M is going to be able to
- 37:22score. And I just like this rivalry,
- 37:24man. I think you got a couple of
- 37:25teams that got some good pass rush.
- 37:27And so you're going to see collapsing pockets.
- 37:29You're going to see guys get sacked.
- 37:31I think it's going to be one of these where they kept both teams
- 37:33kind of go on a run or maybe, you know, A&M goes up 10 and
- 37:39then you've got maybe the reverse of that happening for
- 37:43Texas. I just like when the dust is
- 37:47settled in a game like this Lone Star Showdown.
- 37:49I think couple things you can count on an experienced head
- 37:53coach like Steve Sarkisian, I think you can count on being at
- 37:59home. And it's just it's one of these
- 38:02things that are a better they, I don't say they're a better team.
- 38:08They're the Big Brother is what I meant to say.
- 38:10So those are the three things that I'm really looking at head
- 38:13coach at home. And it's a psychological thing
- 38:16for Texas. They are playing on a slanted
- 38:19field against Texas and they're it's even more slanted because
- 38:24it's that DKR. So I think they're playing
- 38:27against too much. And I think also the safety net
- 38:31behind them of if we lose, we're still in the playoffs and they
- 38:35could potentially still either they would miss the SEC
- 38:37championship game. So not saying they're going to
- 38:40throw the game, but it's not the worst thing If they lose, they
- 38:43get the by, you know, the time to take before the playoffs.
- 38:47So I think there's a lot of factors that just have me
- 38:50feeling like a Texas win. So it's only it's a 2 1/2 point
- 38:55line for Texas A and MI think Texas wins outright, but I'll
- 38:58take those 2 1/2 points as well. So give me Longhorns Horns up
- 39:02for this 1 + 2 and. 1/2 I'm with you.
- 39:04I, I think Texas wins outright. So it's hard to go undefeated.
- 39:10It's very hard to go undefeated. Here's where I think Texas can
- 39:14take advantage here in this game.
- 39:15One like Texas A&M's had a very good offense.
- 39:18Can they stop the Texas A&M offense?
- 39:20Well, I mean, the Texas defense, again, I said it against
- 39:23Georgia, I thought it was the best unit on the field.
- 39:25Georgia took advantage of it with a very dynamic offense.
- 39:28Texas A&M has the ability to do that.
- 39:30Can Texas shut down the run game?
- 39:33I think the Georgia has a more dynamic run game than Texas A&M.
- 39:36If they can shut down the run game, can you then limit
- 39:39explosives? Texas tackles very, very well in
- 39:41the secondary, so can they limit the explosive pass plays?
- 39:45A&M has broken a lot of tackles this year and had a lot of, you
- 39:49know, 40 yard plus pass plays because of broken tackles in the
- 39:53secondary and Marcel Reed hitting guys.
- 39:55They're open and they've done a really good job to take
- 39:58advantage of that. On the other side, Texas A and
- 40:02Ms. had a very good defense. I don't think Texas can be able
- 40:05to run the ball much in this game.
- 40:07So can can Texas throw the ball to win against Texas A and MI
- 40:13thought I'm going to ask you, Daniel, like who's who's the
- 40:16best passing offense that Texas A&M has faced this year?
- 40:20Is it Notre Dame in Week 3 before CJ Carr took off?
- 40:26Was it was it Auburn, was it Mississippi State, Florida, was
- 40:33it Arkansas, Daniel, LSU stop when you heard a good Pat
- 40:37Missouri, South Carolina. So you're telling me they
- 40:40haven't played a very good passing game yet.
- 40:42So maybe these passing stats are a little inflated.
- 40:45I think Texas is going to have some success throwing the ball
- 40:48against Texas A and MI think it's going to be a high scoring
- 40:50game. I think it's hard to go
- 40:52undefeated. Daniel, you're in a rivalry
- 40:54game. I do think there is something I
- 40:57don't know, I don't know how to account for this in points.
- 41:00I think there's something to be said for like being the little
- 41:04brother in the rivalry. And I know you don't want to be
- 41:07little brother in the rivalry. You want to start to be Big
- 41:09Brother. You have an opportunity to do
- 41:11that, to win this one and win several more.
- 41:14But until and you know, until I see it, give me the Longhorns in
- 41:18this one to win outright to ruin Texas A&M's undefeated season
- 41:23here in a rivalry game in Austin.
- 41:24We go to the game, 11 AM Central noon, Eastern Michigan hosting
- 41:33Ohio State in Ann Arbor. Daniel.
- 41:36It's been since 2019 since Ohio State beat the Michigan
- 41:41Wolverines. They won the national
- 41:43championship last year and they still could not beat Michigan.
- 41:47Does Ryan Day have a Michigan problem?
- 41:49I don't know. Evidence would point to yes, he
- 41:53has a Michigan problem. It might not matter for their
- 41:55season, Daniel, but it matters in this game.
- 41:58They're a 12 1/2 point favorite on the road in Ann Arbor.
- 42:01Everything points to Ohio State being able to win this game
- 42:04finally and breakthrough. Who do you like in this game?
- 42:08In the game in Ann Arbor, MI. Yes, Jacob, this one's always
- 42:11going to be tough because I have continued to pick Michigan past
- 42:14couple years because of this. I was definitely duped to the
- 42:18first year and then I was like, I'm just going to take Michigan
- 42:21from here on out. You're a noted Ohio State lover,
- 42:24except to the Ohio State folks. They've called you Southern
- 42:27Fried Clown before, but all to be fair, I mean, Ohio State's a
- 42:33better team. They should win this.
- 42:36It should. But that also should have been
- 42:38true the past few years a couple of times.
- 42:40Even the year that Michigan won the national championship.
- 42:44I mean, that year, OK, Michigan was better.
- 42:46I guess. Ohio State was really good that
- 42:49year 2. They're good every year.
- 42:51Julian saying having a Heisman esque type season as a Richard
- 42:56freshman, I mean, JJ Smith just doing JJ Smith things, He's
- 43:02hitting his stride. 10th receiving touchdowns on the year
- 43:05is just stupid, man. I do know I'm taking Michigan
- 43:08out of principle. All right, Justice Haynes is
- 43:12out. I'll say he's out.
- 43:15I think he's out there. They're being ambiguous about
- 43:17his status. I don't know if they've
- 43:19officially said he's out or not, but he's been injured.
- 43:22The Jordan Marshall freshman running back has been really
- 43:24good this year. 10 rushing touchdowns, almost 900 rushing
- 43:28yards. This is a run the football kind
- 43:32of a team. They have played close with a
- 43:34couple of teams they should not have recently.
- 43:37I don't know if it's a focus issue.
- 43:39If it's so they're not that good issue.
- 43:41They're not good enough to really you know, but this is one
- 43:45of those games you do throw it all out.
- 43:47If the teams are close enough and equal enough as far as
- 43:50program wise, you can do that. You can't do that with every
- 43:56rivalry game because there's always one Big Brother, 1 little
- 43:58brother. This is the game for a reason.
- 44:00Both of them have gotten theirs, and Michigan's gotten it more
- 44:03than Ohio State. So it's a 12 1/2 point spread.
- 44:06I'm taking Michigan plus 12 1/2, but I'm taking Michigan
- 44:10outright. Bryce Underwood has the
- 44:12legendary game. He's going to take that next
- 44:16step and he's going to be in the game lore forever that he won
- 44:21this game as a freshman against Big Bad Ohio State, keeps Ohio
- 44:25State out of the Big 10 championship and for for all
- 44:29intents and purposes, I mean, cements himself as a Wolverine
- 44:34legend at that point. But yeah, I just think I think
- 44:37Ohio State, until they prove otherwise, are going to have to
- 44:40show that they can play this game without psyching themselves
- 44:43out. And Michigan's going to try to
- 44:45shorten the game. They're going to try to shorten
- 44:46the game, running the ball, playing keep away and clamping
- 44:49down on defense. So even if Ohio State wins, I
- 44:53feel good about 12 1/2. So give me Michigan and the
- 44:56points. Then I said last year, I think
- 44:59I've picked Ohio State to win this game.
- 45:02Every year we've done the podcast, I think I've picked
- 45:04Ohio State to win we. Started in 2019 for Otis Worth
- 45:07so. And then they won that year.
- 45:10That was the first year. That was it.
- 45:11I went to an Ohio State game that year.
- 45:13I drank the kool-aid. I loved it.
- 45:16Like this is an elite program. You know, we both grew up in the
- 45:19South and think of the SEC was the best.
- 45:21I was like Daniel. No man.
- 45:22Like they, they do it right. Yes, I've been an Ohio State
- 45:26fanboy. Drake the Kool-aid Man.
- 45:28Ever since you saw them dot the I, it was been love at first
- 45:32dot. That's a good one.
- 45:34Yeah, dude, I had a we've talked about this, but I had a field
- 45:37pass for that game and it's the first time, it's the first time
- 45:40I've been on the field for like a like a big college football
- 45:45game. So seeing college athletes warm
- 45:48up for me to you, you know, like, and I just remember seeing
- 45:52Chase Young and he had his jersey like tucked under his
- 45:57shoulder pads to like show off his eight pack.
- 46:00And I'm like looking at the roster at his size being like,
- 46:03oh, he's almost 300 lbs. And I'm like, I can count his
- 46:06eight pack that like, you look like the Predator, You know what
- 46:09I mean? Like, he just looks like an
- 46:11alien. He, I mean, you could argue he
- 46:14could have won the Heisman Trophy that year.
- 46:16Anyway, I've drank the Ohio State kool-aid and I told you, I
- 46:19said, hey, like until they do it on this podcast, I'm going to
- 46:24pick Michigan. You got to hold me to it.
- 46:26I've stayed true to it in my playoff picks.
- 46:29I keep showing you that Michigan.
- 46:31I have that as a win. And then I go to break the game
- 46:33down, Daniel, and here I am again.
- 46:36Here I am again. Ohio State's offense, number one
- 46:39in the country, an EPA per drop back.
- 46:42I mean, obviously the pass offense has been elite, so much
- 46:44so that they sat there number one and two wide receivers last
- 46:47week in a conference game in what must have been, you know, I
- 46:51was calling it cupcake week in the Big 10.
- 46:52You know, because Ohio State was playing Rutgers and, you know,
- 46:56must, must have been cupcake week in the Big 10.
- 46:58They had the number one quality drive rate in the country #5 in
- 47:02points per quality drive, excellent in scoring touchdowns
- 47:05in the red zone #9 in EPA per rush.
- 47:08They're #4 in early down DPA #3 in 3rd and 4th down success rate
- 47:13Daniel. Their their defense.
- 47:15They don't let teams score in the red zone.
- 47:18They're allowing more field goals than touchdowns.
- 47:20Their past defense has been unbelievable.
- 47:22Their front sevens been stout #2 in the country in 3rd and 4th
- 47:26down success rate on defense. But Michigan's going to beat
- 47:28Ohio State on Saturday. That's just it's, it's what's
- 47:31going to happen. It's science.
- 47:33Hail to the victors. Go blue.
- 47:36They're going to win straight up.
- 47:37This, this is this is one of those games where it's not made
- 47:41sense. Eventually Ohio State's going to
- 47:43win. But Daniel, I will not, you
- 47:45know, I will be picking Michigan and be on the wrong side of it
- 47:48the next time Ohio State does win.
- 47:50And then I can start picking Ohio State again.
- 47:52But I'm not going to let. And look, maybe if you're Ohio
- 47:54State, you love this because I've picked you to win the six
- 47:57years in a row. It's the first time I've picked
- 47:59Michigan. Maybe you finally get it done
- 48:01and you can thank me and. You're like the Corso headgear
- 48:04curse or whatever that's you've been.
- 48:07Yeah, it's the Southern fried clown curse picking on high.
- 48:09State, yeah, I get 12 1/2 points, but I'm not going to
- 48:12need them because Michigan went straight up.
- 48:14I do think you hit the nail on the head how Michigan wins this
- 48:17game is Bryce Underwood plays like he was the number one
- 48:20player in the country. He's not a freshman anymore.
- 48:24He is, you know, 13 or 11 games into his college career.
- 48:27No no longer a, you know, I say by by November, you're not a
- 48:31first year player anymore. You know, like you've got plenty
- 48:33of reps under under your belt. I also think their defense has
- 48:38done some really unique stuff to hold Ohio State in these games
- 48:42in the past. And again, this is a defense,
- 48:44Daniel, that's been a top 15 rushed defense in the country
- 48:47still, top 15 past defense in the country still.
- 48:51I think it's the utter shower they're going to have to win the
- 48:53game. Can they throw the ball to win?
- 48:56And can Bryce Young be Superman in this game and become a
- 48:59Michigan legend as a true freshman to beat Ohio State?
- 49:02I think he does it. I think Michigan wins this game
- 49:04straight up. Give me The Wolverine.
- 49:07And have you looked at the weather at this game?
- 49:11And then how's 30° with snow shower sound for our Michigan
- 49:15pick? Beautiful.
- 49:16Doesn't that just get you excited?
- 49:18Yes, like her on the right side. Uniform match up.
- 49:21In the snow. Oh yeah, that gets that'll get
- 49:24you going. As long as there's Mace pants.
- 49:27Michigan I I will change my pick.
- 49:32I will change my quick. Pants so passed.
- 49:35Yeah, give me the Wolverines to win this game straight up.
- 49:38All right, Lastly, Daniel, there is a playoff game on the line in
- 49:43Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Vandy's the one with the playoff
- 49:47game on the line. If they win, I do think they are
- 49:50in and you're the playoff committee's going to have a
- 49:52tough time with a lot of two loss teams.
- 49:53And I'll tell you what Daniel, I pretty confident believe A2 loss
- 49:57SEC team is not getting left out of the playoff.
- 50:00So Vandy going on the road to Knoxville, TN 3 1/2 point
- 50:05favorites. Who do you like in the nameless
- 50:09rivalry game in Knoxville? I-40 Bowl I-40.
- 50:13I-40 Bowl. Yeah, it's in what they call
- 50:19this. They call it Nash Vegas, right?
- 50:21And I've heard Nasty Knoxville, Knox Vegas.
- 50:24I don't know what we're calling it.
- 50:25So that's from a Tennessee fan, by the way.
- 50:28I'm not throwing shade. They said it.
- 50:30Not me. Oh, my gosh.
- 50:32Is this just not dude, if you don't love college, what are you
- 50:35doing? If you don't love college
- 50:36football, this is amazing. This game is going to be so
- 50:39perfect. Tennessee is Big Brother
- 50:43Vanderbilt is having the season that everybody has, you know,
- 50:47waited for in that, you know, in that community.
- 50:50Diego Pavi is everything they could have ever imagined at
- 50:52quarterback. Tennessee though, is favored in
- 50:56the game, the at home 3 1/2 point line, which tells you that
- 51:01in neutral site this would be a a pick em Joey Aguilar having a
- 51:06great year. I mean, Jacob take like dude,
- 51:09let's just go back to pre season.
- 51:10Let's think about it. Everybody was like, man, I don't
- 51:13know. Is Joey Aguilar going to be the
- 51:14guy? Is he going to?
- 51:16He's been phenomenal for them. I know they've got 3 losses, but
- 51:20the expectation for them before the year was man, they'd be
- 51:23lucky to go 8 and 4, you know, because they lost Nico is this
- 51:27whole thing, you know, I forgot Nico existed.
- 51:30Joey Aguilar made me completely forget he existed.
- 51:32He is doing so much with this offense.
- 51:36Like I said, it's a Big Brother type of rivalry, their Big
- 51:39Brother in this one. But Diego Pavia has no older
- 51:43brothers. This man is 30 years old.
- 51:45OK. So I like Diego Pavia to go in
- 51:49here with 3 1/2 points. I appreciate those.
- 51:53And he's going to go in here and he's going to get the W on the
- 51:56road in Knoxville at Neyland Stadium and ruin all of these
- 52:02fans. Their Thanksgiving holiday is
- 52:03going to be terrible. They're you know, Christmas will
- 52:06be cancelled. Tennessee will ultimately go 8
- 52:09and four after this. And they'll see not just their
- 52:12worst night like Alabama is their biggest rival, but they'll
- 52:15see their their worst nightmare come to fruition as Vanderbilt
- 52:20beats them in route to going to the College Football Playoff.
- 52:24This is the year Vanderbilt set after last week.
- 52:27Man, I was picking and then the, you know, kind of just trying to
- 52:31exist and get to the finish line against Kentucky did that blew
- 52:35up in my face. They blew Kentucky out.
- 52:37I know it's Kentucky, but it's tough to win games that big.
- 52:41It's tough to put teams away in November.
- 52:44That's absolutely what they did. They're playing good on the
- 52:46defensive side. Offensively, these receivers are
- 52:49getting open. Diego Pavia is playing his best
- 52:52ball, dude. Let's just believe for a minute,
- 52:55man. You know, we go doors, whether
- 52:58they do anchor down, you know, shout out Nate Bargatze, Shout
- 53:02out Barton Simmons, all the people.
- 53:04Shout out Theo Von, who's apparently dating Diego Pavia's
- 53:07mom. So yeah, shout out.
- 53:11Yeah, OK, You said we were. You said before the podcast
- 53:13we're going to go 4 for four here.
- 53:16We're not going to go 4 for four.
- 53:18Tennessee's going to win and cover this week.
- 53:23I'll play the same game I played with with A&M.
- 53:26Daniel who who are the best teams, who are the best offenses
- 53:29Vanderbilt has faced this year that could go toe to toe with
- 53:31them? And I'll give you a hint is this
- 53:34the two that beat them are the best two.
- 53:36It's Texas and Alabama as far as like who has the athletes to go
- 53:40toe to toe with them? I think this is a higher scoring
- 53:42game, but I don't like in a higher scoring game, I'm going
- 53:47to trust that Tennessee can get one more score at home and that
- 53:51with 105,000 or whatever it is at Kneeland behind, they can get
- 53:55the one stop they need to win this game.
- 53:57I, I think both defense are going to give up points in this
- 53:59one, but if I trust one defense more to get one stop in this
- 54:03game, it's Tennessee's and all I need is one stop with a 3 1/2
- 54:06point spread. I think this is like a 3834 kind
- 54:09of game. I think this number is on the
- 54:11money. I think, you know, I, I by no
- 54:13means think either team's going to blow the other one out.
- 54:15I think Vanderbilt absolutely deserves to be in a close game
- 54:19with Tennessee. They are as good of a team as
- 54:21Tennessee is, but I think at home Tennessees defense can get
- 54:27the one stop they need. You know what, it's probably
- 54:28going to be Daniel. It's probably going to be a Yolo
- 54:31ball from Diego Pavia. We saw this in the Alabama game
- 54:33and honestly, the difference in the game were the two early
- 54:36turnovers he had because they stayed in that game.
- 54:38They stayed in the Texas game, They came back in the Texas game
- 54:42even after being out of it early.
- 54:43Vanderbilt's not going to give up.
- 54:44But does he get them in a hole even early where Neil and his
- 54:48then a factor the whole game because, you know, or maybe it's
- 54:52early in the third quarter, he's trying to roll out of the pocket
- 54:55and force a ball and a Yolo ball goes back for a pick 6.
- 54:59And I think that's what could be the difference in this game is,
- 55:02look, win or lose, Pavi is going to do what he does and he's
- 55:06going to throw a lot of touchdowns.
- 55:07And sometimes it's going to be the other way.
- 55:09And I'm not rooting for this, but it could be a pick like that
- 55:12that cost him a chance to go to New York in this big of a
- 55:15rivalry game. So a lot on the line for
- 55:17Vanderbilt this week. Are they ready for the pressure
- 55:21of if you win, you're in the playoff on the road in Neon
- 55:25Stadium against your biggest rival?
- 55:28I'm going to say not yet. Give me Tennessee to win and
- 55:32cover. Give me the balls in the
- 55:34nameless rivalry in Tennessee, the three star, the three star
- 55:39shootout. I don't know.
- 55:40We get we we we got to come up with some names of these
- 55:42nameless rivalries here in the offseason.
- 55:44Maybe that'll be an offseason pod and that could be a fun one
- 55:48for us. Yeah.
- 55:49I love it. All right, That's rivalry week,
- 55:51Daniel. We're not done yet.
- 55:53Playoff prediction. Do you have your 12?
- 55:56I'm going to be honest with you, Jacob, based off of what?
- 55:58Yes, I do. I'm going to spare some drama.
- 56:03I'm going to I'm going to cut to your drama, but I have the same
- 56:0712 because. Same 12.
- 56:10What I had from last week held, so I don't want to be coward.
- 56:16No, no, change my affair. Pittsburgh is still set up as my
- 56:21ACC champ. They obviously want to stay in
- 56:24the running. Tulane still in the running, all
- 56:27the other teams they won as far as to keep, keep position, keep
- 56:30pace. I will say, if you're
- 56:33technically holding my feet to the fire, I just picked Michigan
- 56:37to beat Ohio State. I still have Ohio State #1 sue
- 56:40me, OK? But if you know, I'll make some
- 56:45amendments at that point. But now it's it's the same.
- 56:47So Ohio State one, Indiana 2, Alabama 3, Georgia 4, 8th, Texas
- 56:55Tech 6, Oregon 7, Ole Miss 8. Notre Dame 9.
- 57:00Vanderbilt 10A, Pittsburgh 11 to Lane 12 All.
- 57:04Right. You need some help with Pitt.
- 57:05That's the one. You need some help.
- 57:07You need Virginia to lose the team they've lost 223 times in
- 57:10the last 25 years. So that's that's all you need
- 57:13there. That's it.
- 57:15OK, Daniel, I've got a couple of changes I did.
- 57:18I kept my ACC champ as SMUI think they they they control
- 57:22their own destiny. They win, they're in.
- 57:24I like that. I'm looking at that one from
- 57:25last week now. Made a couple changes.
- 57:28I kept Michigan over Ohio State, obviously my one seed, Daniel,
- 57:33my one seed is Georgia. I've got the 12 in one SEC
- 57:36champ, Georgia Bulldogs, my one seed, two seed, 12 in one Oregon
- 57:43Big 10 champ. Here's where I flip-flopped.
- 57:46I put my feet to the fire and I said, are you really going to
- 57:48pick what you think is going to happen or just based off of
- 57:52priors? And I was picking off of priors.
- 57:54I think if Georgia gets a rematch right now, I take the
- 57:58dogs against Alabama. If we actually have to pick this
- 58:01game next week, I'm picking Alabama.
- 58:03I'm just telling you, but and then Oregon, Indiana, I think I
- 58:06would pick Oregon. They're they're starting to get
- 58:09again if they get healthy, Daniel, that's a team I don't
- 58:11want to face in the playoffs. 3 Indiana 12 and one Big 10 runner
- 58:14up for Texas Tech Big 12 champ. 5 Ole Miss 6 Ohio State, 7 Texas
- 58:20A and M8 Oklahoma 10 into I'll get on the 12.
- 58:25I put 2 lanes head North Texas. As long as Summerall doesn't
- 58:30like bounce early and cause some stress, yeah, at 11, SMU.
- 58:35But come down to the 910 conundrum again.
- 58:39I think that if Alabama is in the top 12 at 10:00 and 2:00 and
- 58:44they play for the SEC championship, that committee,
- 58:47regardless of what happens if they lose 41, nothing, which
- 58:50won't happen, they're in. So I have them at 10.
- 58:54At 10 and three, that leaves one spot for 3-10 and two teams,
- 58:58Notre Dame, Miami and Michigan. Now, if I'm on the committee,
- 59:04I'm putting Michigan and the playoff attended to and then you
- 59:09don't have to worry about head to
- 59:22And so that's my projection is Notre Dame and attended to.
- 59:26And again, that's a team I I like them and pretty much any
- 59:28first round match up like I wouldn't want to play Notre Dame
- 59:31at this point in the season. Hilarious stat if you didn't see
- 59:33it. They were up 21 nothing before
- 59:36their offense had their first snap on Saturday against
- 59:38Syracuse. That's that's crazy.
- 59:40They had like 50 something plays and 70 points.
- 59:45That is nuts. I think we can we can get a
- 59:50pretty good projection after this weekend heading in the
- 59:53conference championship week. We'll see how much chaos happens
- 59:56and like if Michigan doesn't win, that gives us some clarity
- 1:00:00right, but they're going to we picked it.
- 1:00:02It's going to happen. You're welcome to high state
