- 0:00John chapter 6 let us pray. Heavenly Father, we love you.
- 0:07Lord Jesus, we enter your gates with praise and Thanksgiving.
- 0:11We thank you God for the abundant life.
- 0:13We thank you, Father, for all the many blessings that you give
- 0:17us. Thank you for waking us up.
- 0:18Thank you for putting us on our feet.
- 0:20Thank you God for helping us to charge the hill.
- 0:23Father, we take back enemy territory.
- 0:25Lord, we put on the full armor today.
- 0:28God, we do war with the darkness.
- 0:30God, we push against all of the spiritual malice.
- 0:34Father, Lord, we pray against discord.
- 0:37Lord, we pray against deceit. Father, we pray in the name of
- 0:40Jesus, Lord, that you'll heal our broken bodies.
- 0:43Lord, give us the sound mind. Father, help us to take every
- 0:46thought captive. Help us to hide your word in our
- 0:49heart so that we might not sin against you.
- 0:52Lord, we love you. Lord Jesus, it's all about you,
- 0:55King Jesus. Lord, we get out of the way.
- 0:57I decrease as you increase. Holy Spirit.
- 1:00You be our teacher. You be our God.
- 1:02We love you. And it's in Jesus Christ, holy
- 1:05and precious name that we pray, Amen.
- 1:10Well, let's start in verse one. After these things, Jesus went
- 1:16over the Sea of Galilee, which is at the Sea of Tiberias.
- 1:22So here we know that after these things, Jesus has just given a
- 1:25long discourse to all those that were upset that he had healed
- 1:30this man at the pool of Bethesda where the Angel would come and
- 1:34stir the waters and then someone would get healed.
- 1:38And here he's saying, after he gives this discourse and telling
- 1:42them that they did not believe in the fourfold witness of
- 1:46himself, then we see this next story unfold, verse 2.
- 1:53And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his
- 1:56miracles, which he did on them that were deceased.
- 2:02So here you can see that Jesus was showing them that he was God
- 2:06in the flesh. 3 And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there
- 2:11he sat with his disciples. For in the Passover a feast of
- 2:16the Jews was near. So you can see that John the
- 2:19Gospel writer John is wanting his readers to understand some
- 2:24of the context of the Jewish festivals.
- 2:30So he's telling them that this Passover was near 5 When Jesus
- 2:35then lifted up his eyes, he saw a great company come unto him.
- 2:42He said unto Philip, Where shall we buy bread that these may eat?
- 2:516 And this he said to prove him, for he himself knew what he
- 2:56would do. So he's asking Philip, how is it
- 3:00that they're going to buy all of the food that this great
- 3:04multitude would need? 6 Philip answered him, 200
- 3:11Pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every
- 3:14one of them may take up a little.
- 3:17Eight. One of his disciples, Andrew,
- 3:20Simon Peters brother, said unto him, Nine there is a lad here
- 3:25which has five barley loaves and two small fish.
- 3:30But what are they among so many? So he's saying that this young
- 3:35little man, this little lad here, he has a lunch for
- 3:40himself. It's not enough for the
- 3:42multitude, but what is Jesus going to do?
- 3:4710 And Jesus said, make the men sit down.
- 3:50So we know they were in Rose Friends, these companies.
- 3:54Now there was much grass in the place, so the men sat down in a
- 3:58number about 5000. So it looked like at this time
- 4:03that Jesus was trying to amass some kind of military might.
- 4:07But what's he going to do? 11 And Jesus took the loaves,
- 4:10and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples,
- 4:15and the disciples to them that were set down, and likewise of
- 4:19the fish as much as they would. 12 When they were filled, he
- 4:24said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain,
- 4:27that nothing be lost. 13 Therefore they gathered them
- 4:30together, filled 12 baskets with the fragments of the five barley
- 4:35loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
- 4:40So this is what happens when we come unto the Lord.
- 4:43Friends, it is an abundance. He takes the little, and He
- 4:47multiplies it, and it is miraculous.
- 4:50Trust that. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle
- 4:57that Jesus did, said This is of a truth, that prophet that
- 5:01should come into the world. So he was much more than a
- 5:04prophet. He was the Son of God, and he is
- 5:07God Incarnate. 15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they
- 5:11would come and take him by force to make him a king, he departed
- 5:15again into a mountain, himself alone.
- 5:18You can see even here Jesus is not demanding any kind of
- 5:24position, any kind of rule over the land.
- 5:29He is over the whole universe. You cannot make him just a king
- 5:35over one specific people group. He is the Creator of everything,
- 5:41seen and unseen is by his breath alone.
- 5:46And look how he goes up into the mountain alone. 16 And when
- 5:50evening was now come, his disciples went down unto the
- 5:54sea, 17 and entered into a ship, and went over the sea towards
- 6:00Capernaum, and it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
- 6:05So we know here that Jesus has told his disciples to go to the
- 6:08other side. And we see here that Jesus is up
- 6:13on the mountain, He's receiving from the Lord, from God
- 6:17Almighty. And we see the disciples are out
- 6:21on the water. And it was dark, and Jesus
- 6:23hadn't come to him. 18 And the sea arose by reason of a great
- 6:27wind that blew. 19 So when they had rowed about 5 and 20 or 30
- 6:34furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near unto
- 6:40the ship, and they were afraid. 20 But he said unto them, It is
- 6:44I do not be afraid. 21 And they willingly received him into the
- 6:49ship, and immediately the ship was at the land where they went.
- 6:53So miracle after miracle, friends, Jesus walking on the
- 6:57water, Peter being beckoned out to him, Peter walking for a
- 7:01minute and losing heart and falling into the sea, Jesus is,
- 7:06is rescuing him. And then immediately the wind in
- 7:09the waves died down and immediately they're on the other
- 7:11side, miracle after miracle. And this is reality.
- 7:15This is not some fable. This isn't just some feel good
- 7:18story, friends, this is what happened.
- 7:22And we would do well to make sure that we don't try to
- 7:24discount the miraculous. God is still doing miracles
- 7:28today. 22 The day following, when the people which stood on
- 7:33the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat
- 7:37there except the one where the disciples were entered, and that
- 7:41Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but
- 7:44that the disciples were gone away alone. 23 Howbeit there
- 7:48came other boats from Tiberius near unto the place where they
- 7:52did eat bread. After that the Lord had given
- 7:55thanks. 24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not
- 8:01there, neither his disciples, they also took ship and came to
- 8:06Capernaum seeking for Jesus. They just wanted to be fed, they
- 8:10wanted another meal, and they didn't care that Jesus Christ
- 8:14actually was the Messiah. They just were after getting
- 8:18fed. 25 And when they had found him on the other side of the
- 8:23sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when did you come here?
- 8:2826 And Jesus said unto them, Truly, truly I say unto you, you
- 8:32seek me, not because you saw the miracles, but because you ate of
- 8:36the loaves and were filled. 27 Labor not for the meat which
- 8:42perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting
- 8:46life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for Him has God
- 8:52the Father sealed. So we know that Jesus is talking
- 8:56about the food, that you know nothing about the food to do the
- 9:00will of the Father. We know that it does not perish.
- 9:03It is the manna from heaven, and it is abundant, and it is
- 9:07available, and we should not be so preoccupied with the things
- 9:12of the flesh and with the filling of our bellies.
- 9:15We can't make our bellies our God, friends.
- 9:18We must fast and get broke free from all of the things, all of
- 9:23the desires, all of our hunger pangs.
- 9:28We must fast and break free from that, friends.
- 9:31And then watch how he gives you even more intimacy with him. 28
- 9:39Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work
- 9:43the works of God? So they're wanting to know, How
- 9:46is it that we can get this food that you talk about?
- 9:5029 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God,
- 9:56that you believe on him whom he has sent. 30 They said,
- 10:00Therefore unto him, What sign do you show then, that we may see
- 10:04and believe you? What do you work So here he just
- 10:08got done doing a miraculous and feeding 5000 from a little boy's
- 10:13lunch and they're asking him what kind of sign will he do
- 10:17that they may believe 31 our fathers did eat mana in the
- 10:22desert as it is written he gave them bread from heaven to eat so
- 10:27they're saying, are you going to give us mana?
- 10:32Are you going to show us that you're God by giving us mana?
- 10:38So they were still stuck in the natural, and it's no different
- 10:42for us today. We refuse to believe in the
- 10:46miraculous. We don't increase our faith.
- 10:49We don't have faith. Like little children, we've been
- 10:52steeped in the natural, we've been steeped in the culture.
- 10:57And we refuse Jesus, we refuse God, we refuse the fellowship
- 11:04that he offers to us because we trust in money and we trust in
- 11:09self-reliance, and we trust in all the systems of the world,
- 11:16and we trust in medicine and healthcare, and we are not
- 11:20desperate for God. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Truly, truly I
- 11:28say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven, but my
- 11:34Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
- 11:36He is the bread of life. Jesus is the bread of life. 33
- 11:42For the bread of God is he which comes down from heaven and gives
- 11:46life unto the world. Man shall not live by bread
- 11:49alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God's mouth. 34
- 11:54Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35
- 11:58And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life.
- 12:02He that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on
- 12:06me shall never thirst. We know that He is the living
- 12:09water and the bread of life, and we must feast on Him daily. 36
- 12:15But I say unto you, that you also have seen me, and believe
- 12:19not. 37 All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and
- 12:23him that comes to me I will in no way cast out.
- 12:27Remember that. Highlight it, mark it down,
- 12:29friends, Jesus will no way cast you out when you come unto Him
- 12:34authentically. 38 For I came down from heaven not to do my
- 12:44own will, but the will of him that sent me.
- 12:46God and Jesus are the same, and then they are congruent. 39 And
- 12:51this is the Father's will which has sent me, that of all which
- 12:56he has given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up
- 13:01again at the last day. So we know that Jesus has set
- 13:05his face like a Flint towards Jerusalem.
- 13:07He was on the divine timeline and He knew what was at stake.
- 13:11It was the salvation of the world, where he takes away the
- 13:14sin of the world. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me,
- 13:19that everyone which sees the Son and believes on Him may have
- 13:23everlasting life. And I will raise him up at the
- 13:26last day. So we know that we will have
- 13:29resurrected bodies, and we will be with Him forevermore in
- 13:32eternity. 41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he
- 13:37said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
- 13:40They're still looking for a material blessing, and they had
- 13:45missed that He is the blessing, and believing upon Him they will
- 13:52have eternal life, and they will have no need and no lack in
- 13:56their house, even unto death. 42 And they said, Is not this Jesus
- 14:03the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?
- 14:08How is it then that he says, I came down from heaven?
- 14:11They're murmuring, and we murmur too, and whenever we murmur, we
- 14:16lose so many rewards. 43 Jesus therefore it answered and said
- 14:24unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come
- 14:28to me except the Father which has sent me.
- 14:30Draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
- 14:35So you can see here that the Spirit of God, God the Father,
- 14:43He is drawing us to Himself, and we cannot blasphemy and stiff
- 14:48arm and refuse that drawing. And if you die in that refusal,
- 14:55you will be eternally separated from God. 45 It is written in
- 15:02the prophets, and they shall be all taught of God.
- 15:07Every man, therefore, that has heard and has learned of the
- 15:10Father comes unto me. So you can see here that the
- 15:14gospel goes out to the whole world.
- 15:16We know that it first started there with the Jews. 46 Not that
- 15:22any man has seen the Father, which he which is of God, he has
- 15:28seen the Father. So he's talking about that Jesus
- 15:31Christ has seen the Father because he is God, and he's
- 15:37telling us that he's trustworthy, and that they can
- 15:39believe on him because he is Co equal with God. 47 Truly, truly
- 15:46I say unto you, he that believes on me has everlasting life. 48 I
- 15:51am that bread of life. 49 Your Father's did eat manna in the
- 15:56wilderness, and they are dead. 50 This is the bread which comes
- 16:01down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof and not die. 51 I am
- 16:06the living bread which came down from heaven, and if any man eats
- 16:11of this bread, he shall live forever.
- 16:13And the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give
- 16:19for the life of the world. He's talking about his
- 16:21crucifixion here, friends. 52 The Jews therefore strove among
- 16:26themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
- 16:31So here they're thinking that he's talking about cannibalism.
- 16:38And how many times do we try to discount the simplicity of his
- 16:47words whenever we try to Add all of our own thoughts and ideas
- 16:54onto the plain meaning of Scripture?
- 16:58We sure can err grievously, friends.
- 17:02And here they needed to lock in. They needed to know that Jesus
- 17:07Christ is going to expound upon these things and all they must
- 17:13do is believe on him and they can eat of the flesh that he's
- 17:20about to go and OfferUp on the cross.
- 17:23And he's talking about communion.
- 17:25He's talking about the breaking of his body.
- 17:29He's talking about eating and the remembrance of it all right
- 17:34here. 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Truly, truly, I say unto
- 17:44you, except you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his
- 17:49blood, you have no life in you. He's talking about the wine,
- 17:52He's talking about the bread. He's talking about his body
- 17:56being broken and his blood poured out.
- 17:58He's talking about the remembrance of the cross.
- 18:01He's talking about our salvation here. 54 Whosoever eats my flesh
- 18:06and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at
- 18:10the last day. 55 For my flesh is me indeed, and my blood is drink
- 18:16indeed. 56 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in
- 18:21me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father has sent me, and I
- 18:26live by the Father, so he that eats me even he shall live by
- 18:30me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven, not as
- 18:35your father's did eat manna and are dead.
- 18:39He that eats of this bread shall live forever. 59 These things
- 18:43said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
- 18:48So you can see that Jesus had amassed A multitude, and they're
- 18:51following them around. They want to be fed.
- 18:53And Jesus draws the line in the sand and he says a very hard
- 18:58saying, and many fall away. And we can see here what it all
- 19:02meant. It pointed to the cross.
- 19:05It pointed to our ability to go and remember it with communion.
- 19:12And he's telling us that through that we can have eternal life.
- 19:16Friends. 60 Many, therefore, of his disciples, when they had
- 19:22heard this, said, This is a hard saying, who can hear it?
- 19:2661 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at
- 19:31it, he said unto them, Does this offend you, unless it is the man
- 19:37who is not offended by him? Friends, we cannot change our
- 19:41theology when we're offended by God's silence over the prayers
- 19:46that we cry out every day and that don't get answered in the
- 19:50ways or in the time that we want them to.
- 19:53We cannot get offended and fall away when Jesus and doesn't act
- 19:58in the way that we want them to. We cannot get offended, friends,
- 20:04whenever scriptures highlight things in our lives that don't
- 20:08belong. We cannot get offended at the
- 20:11gravity of scripture and what it demands of us, Friends who are
- 20:17blood bought, born again believers, We cannot get
- 20:21offended by it. We cannot look at the Bible as
- 20:25if it's an arcade barbaric book. We must look at it as his flesh
- 20:29and blood, as the bread of life and the living water, friends,
- 20:33and have eternal life. And when you come to him in
- 20:36faith, he reveals to you His love that is written on every
- 20:41page. It is love and it is love, and
- 20:45it is only love, but it is wrapped in very hard discipline.
- 20:56That is the root of a disciple. You must discipline yourself to
- 21:02find this abundant life that He is offering to you.
- 21:08And it is a simple gospel, and we come to it by faith.
- 21:12But He loves you too much to leave you in that sin.
- 21:15Friends, does this offend you? 62 What?
- 21:22And if you shall see the Son of Man ascend up where he was
- 21:28before, talking about his ascension here, friends?
- 21:3163 It is the spirit that quickens.
- 21:36The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak unto you,
- 21:40they are spirit, and they are life.
- 21:44This word that you hold in your hand is alive and active and
- 21:49sharper than any 2 edged sword. And you don't read it, it reads
- 21:52you. You don't discern it, it
- 21:55discerns you. And it's not about the
- 21:56interpretation of scripture, it is about the obedience to it.
- 22:02And don't be offended by it. You need to develop an
- 22:06unoffendable spirit, Friend. 64 But there are some of you that
- 22:12believe not. Jesus knew from the beginning
- 22:17who they were that believe not, and who should betray him.
- 22:22He's talking about Judas. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto
- 22:29you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto
- 22:33him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples went
- 22:39back and walked no more with him.
- 22:42This was a hard saying, eating his flesh, drinking his blood.
- 22:46They were steeped in the natural and they could not see past it
- 22:49that it was spiritual application that was profitable.
- 22:58And what did he say? He said that the Spirit quickens
- 23:02and that it is flesh that profits nothing.
- 23:04And we can see here that he was talking about the cross, He was
- 23:09talking about communion, but they missed it, and they walked
- 23:13with him no more. 67 And then said, Jesus unto the 12 Will you
- 23:20also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered
- 23:26him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal
- 23:34life. That's where we have to get 2
- 23:37friends. We've got to get to the same
- 23:40place. And Jesus asks us the same
- 23:43question. When hard times come, are you
- 23:46going to fall away? And we've got to get to the
- 23:49place where Peter is at here where we say, I don't understand
- 23:55it all and I don't have to understand it all.
- 23:58And this life is hard. And I don't know why you
- 24:01wouldn't just cause 8 billion souls to be sold out to you
- 24:06today. I know that your ways are not my
- 24:09ways, and I know that your thoughts are not my thoughts.
- 24:12And I know that everything you do is good and you're working it
- 24:16all out and this is just a snapshot for what is to come.
- 24:22We've got to get to this place where we believe every syllable.
- 24:28We believe every jot and every title.
- 24:30We don't call it any of it into question.
- 24:33We believe every bit of it because it is eternal life.
- 24:38It has the power to save Friends, There is nothing that
- 24:44we need to add or subtract to the Word of God for people to be
- 24:48saved. It is all authority right here
- 24:53that you hold in your hands. How amazing is our God?
- 25:0169 And we believe and are sure that you are that Christ, the
- 25:07Son of the living God. Can you say that today that
- 25:11Jesus Christ is your salvation? Can you say today that Jesus
- 25:18Christ is eternal life? Can you say today that this word
- 25:25of God that became flesh is your salvation?
- 25:28Can you say today, and Are you sure that Christ is the Son of
- 25:33the living God? 70 Jesus answered them, Have not
- 25:39I chosen you? 12 And one of you is the devil.
- 25:47He chose the 12 by this point and he already knew that Judas
- 25:51would betray him, and Judas had free will and Judas could have
- 25:57chose not to, but he was deceived.
- 26:03There are many ravenous wolves in sheep clothing that we need
- 26:06to be on guard against. 71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son
- 26:12of Simon, for he it was that should betray him being one of
- 26:17the 12. And Jesus washed Judas's feet
- 26:23too, and Judas got to eat and dip in the same cup that Jesus
- 26:32drank out of. How amazing and how
- 26:35long-suffering is our God? All power wrapped up in a little
- 26:40baby. Hope you've been blessed by this
- 26:42chapter. There's a lot more we could
- 26:47expound upon, but suffice to say, Jesus is our everything.
- 26:53I'm praying for you, I love you. We'll see you back here
- 26:59tomorrow. God bless you.
