- 0:01When we recognize the difficulties of managing the
- 0:04energy of the vital nature and its long habits of how it finds
- 0:09fulfillment and satisfaction, we can appreciate that there are no
- 0:14simple solutions available. The vital, when it is
- 0:18cooperative with the mind and the psychic being, is an
- 0:22incredible power of effectuation.
- 0:25When it sets up obstacles, however, it can pose immense
- 0:29difficulties for the seeker. We can gain an understanding of
- 0:33the vital in its mode of operations as a basis for
- 0:37bringing it to a place where it wants to and does Co operate
- 0:41with the seeker. First, it is important to
- 0:45formulate the intention or goal one has for the vital nature.
- 0:50If the goal is the abandonment of the active external life,
- 0:55then the vital can be suppressed and prevented from finding any
- 0:59outlet. If, however, the goal is the
- 1:02transformation of life both for the individual and for the
- 1:07external life, then the vital needs to be understood and the
- 1:12relationship with it managed carefully.
- 1:15So, the first step is to define one's intention in relation to
- 1:20the vital. Next, we can look at the concept
- 1:24of vital management. There are numerous theories and
- 1:28practices that have been tried in the past, some more
- 1:32successful than others. We look therefore at the
- 1:35principles involved in managing the vital.
- 1:39Thereafter, it comes down to a matter of the techniques which
- 1:43need to be adaptable and flexible to start, from where
- 1:47the individual's vital nature is in its development, and what is
- 1:51possible from that starting point and with the circumstances
- 1:56that are extant for the secret to address and manage.
- 2:01Educating the vital nature is actually an important element of
- 2:04the process of educating children, who naturally have the
- 2:09vital nature active and in most cases predominant over the
- 2:14mental being in the earlier stages of their lives.
- 2:18First principles of education require an understanding of the
- 2:22habits of the vital, how they are formed and how they are
- 2:26redirected. Thus, the first concern is to
- 2:31develop the power of observation, both of one's own
- 2:35reactions and the way significant individuals in one's
- 2:39life, such as parents, siblings, friends, teachers, and others
- 2:44with whom one relates, react to situations, as these all
- 2:49represent influences that help shape one's own vital responses
- 2:54to circumstances. It is through such detailed
- 2:57observation, and particularly inner observation of one's own
- 3:02vital impulses, urges and reactions that one can truly
- 3:07begin to understand the forces at work and thus begin to
- 3:12develop a plan to manage, train and guide the vital nature.
- 3:19We find that through poor vital education in parents, they often
- 3:24resort to violence and bullying of children in order to
- 3:28accomplish some immediate act of submission.
- 3:32This process tends either to deaden the vital or create
- 3:36resistance and rebellion at some point or carries on the MIS
- 3:41education of the vital into future generations.
- 3:45This insight can aid the seeker in dealing with his own vital
- 3:49nature which may have been subjected to such experiences
- 3:53earlier in life. Similarly, the society may set
- 3:58forth objectives that get internalized by the child to
- 4:02obtain vital satisfaction through acquisition of material
- 4:06objects, through obtaining wealth, power, fame and acclaim
- 4:12or some other external reward, thus perverting the vital nature
- 4:18in its expectations and focus. This too results in deeply
- 4:23rooted obstacles and limitations for the secret to understand and
- 4:27work out. An excellent mode of observation
- 4:31is to attempt to implement a discipline and then observe how
- 4:36the vital response to it. For instance, as a preliminary
- 4:42practice in Raja Yoga, Patanjali describes the restraints known
- 4:47as yamas and niyamas. These are practices that
- 4:52restrain the vital being from some of the ordinary reactions.
- 4:58The yamas are not harming others, abiding in truth and
- 5:02thought, word and deed, non stealing including not coveting
- 5:06possessions of others, continents to restrain the
- 5:11sexual energy, and non receiving in the form of acceptance of
- 5:16energies or gifts from others which can influence one's
- 5:19energetic state. The niyamas include purification
- 5:24both externally and inwardly to cleanse the body, mind and soul,
- 5:30contentment so as to limit the force of desire, concentration
- 5:35of conscious force known as tapas.
- 5:39Observation for learning and study and bringing forward the
- 5:44aspiration, love and gratitude for the Divine.
- 5:49Each of these will bring up reactions in the vital nature,
- 5:52and thus one can learn about the deformations that need to be
- 5:57dealt with and the positive energies that provide a basis
- 6:02for further progress. The Mother observes quote.
- 6:08It is difficult to regulate it, yet naturally when you have
- 6:13succeeded in taming it, you have something powerful in hand for
- 6:18realization. It is that which can carry by
- 6:22storm the biggest obstacles. It is that which is capable of
- 6:26turning an idiot into an intelligent person.
- 6:30It alone can do so. For if one yearns passionately
- 6:35for progress, if the vital takes it into its head that one must
- 6:39progress, even the greatest idiot can become intelligent.
- 6:44I have seen this. I am not speaking from hearsay.
- 6:48I have seen it. I have seen people who were
- 6:51dull, stupid, incapable of understanding, who understood
- 6:56nothing. You could go on explaining
- 6:59something to them for months. It would not enter as though one
- 7:04were speaking to a block of wood.
- 7:07And then all of a sudden, their vital was caught in a passion.
- 7:12They wanted simply to please someone or get something.
- 7:16And for that, one had to understand.
- 7:19One had to know it was necessary.
- 7:22Well, they set everything moving.
- 7:25They shook up the sleeping mind. They poured energy into all the
- 7:29corners where there was none. And they understood.
- 7:33They became intelligent. I knew someone who knew nothing,
- 7:37practically understood nothing, and who, when the mind started
- 7:42moving and the passion for progress took possession of him,
- 7:47began to write wonderful things. I have them with me.
- 7:52And when the movement withdrew, when the vital went on strike,
- 7:57for sometimes it went on strike and withdrew, the person became
- 8:02once again absolutely dull. End Quote Reference Shrioro
