- 0:24I'll just run through the preamble of Alcoholics
- 0:27Anonymous. Alcoholics Anonymous is a
- 0:29fellowship of people who share the experience, strengthened
- 0:33hope with each other that they may solve their common problems
- 0:37and help with us to recover from alcoholism.
- 0:40The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop
- 0:43drinking and no dues of fees. Fair membership.
- 0:46We are self supporting through our own contributions.
- 0:50He is not alive with any sect, denomination, politics,
- 0:54organization or institution, does not wish to engage in any
- 0:58controversy, neither endorses or oppose any causes.
- 1:03Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other Alcoholics
- 1:07are chief sobriety. Good evening friends, that is my
- 1:10name. I'm an alcoholic member of the
- 1:12Brompton Beginners Group and my sobriety dates 28th of October
- 1:161977 and by the grace of God through the fellowship of a a
- 1:21haven't needed a wanted to drink in that period of time from
- 1:24which I'm very grateful. I didn't get sober by myself and
- 1:27I can't stay sober by myself. I'm an alcoholic which is in the
- 1:32the the present tense, not an ex alcoholic.
- 1:36I'm a recovering alcoholic but I'm not ex.
- 1:38I'll never be an ex alcoholic but I'm grateful to be alive
- 1:41today. I believe I've lived 2 lives.
- 1:44I lived the life of the madness of a practice and alcoholic and
- 1:47I believe I was suffering an ignorance of the disease.
- 1:49And when I said that, I mean not knowing because alcohol had a
- 1:53blind spot when it came to alcohol, I couldn't see it.
- 1:56There was many red flags in my life.
- 1:58My mother said to me, you know, she said you're an alcoholic.
- 2:02She said that's why that's why you drink the way you do.
- 2:05And I said, well, I'm 16 years of age, how can I be an
- 2:07alcoholic? She said, well, you are.
- 2:09And the priest used to come round to the house and he said,
- 2:12what's what's he been up to this time?
- 2:14Because I was getting in trouble all the time.
- 2:16I wouldn't listen at school. I just, I was rebellious right
- 2:19from the very beginning, early, early days of my life was into
- 2:22shoplifting, always trying to, you know, go against.
- 2:26I didn't want to live a long life.
- 2:28I thought if I get to the age of 30, I'll be happy.
- 2:31I, I didn't, I just couldn't and wouldn't fit in with the normal.
- 2:36I don't like normal either and I never have done.
- 2:38I suppose I'm still not normal. But I didn't understand that was
- 2:41mentally and bodily different from a fellow man.
- 2:44I had to learn that in the fellowship of 18.
- 2:46Well, my first meeting was 1975 in Sydney and the a, what's by
- 2:51the power of attraction? It's not, it's not evangelizing
- 2:54or anything like that. What I was seeing in people, I
- 2:56saw people who were very down to earth and they were real.
- 3:00And this man, he worked for Holmes a Court, Scotch Danny, he
- 3:03was the first guy introduced me to the fellowship.
- 3:05So I went along to a meeting there and Seaford and Span is
- 3:10talking guy called Schooly Jack. He said, if you're an alcoholic,
- 3:13you keep drinking, you're going to lose everything.
- 3:15I thought that's a bit of an exaggeration.
- 3:17That's not going to happen to me.
- 3:19Oh, thank God. It did happen to me.
- 3:21And I'm grateful for everything that happened in my life.
- 3:23And I look back on it and, you know, I didn't set out in life
- 3:27to wreck the, the, the lives that I did with my type of
- 3:32relationships, that I had toxic relationships.
- 3:36And that's what it was all about when I, before I came to
- 3:38Alcoholics Anonymous, because I, I fell into the trap, I guess,
- 3:43of the, the, the honey trap. And there's 2 I believe.
- 3:46And I think that's why the traditions are the way they are,
- 3:48you know, the, the money and the honey.
- 3:50I thought that equalled happiness.
- 3:52If you've got the right woman and you get the right position,
- 3:54they're living in the right address.
- 3:56I was living in Sydney at a time then that would equal happiness.
- 4:00And that was the most unhappy period of my life.
- 4:04But I just continued to drink, you know, and I drank till I
- 4:06could drink no longer. And in the end, you know, in
- 4:09desperation, I was given the gift to call out to God for
- 4:12help. Now I just didn't want to go and
- 4:14see a psychiatrist because I was very good at lying to doctors.
- 4:18I had a seizure when I was 21 years of age in Scotland.
- 4:21And there was a nurse that was there and she saved my life.
- 4:23She took took my tongue out the back of my mouth and I woke up
- 4:26in an ambulance. So there was 3 specialists
- 4:28there. And I said, do you drink a lot?
- 4:30And I said no, 21 years of age at this time.
- 4:33No, I said it's been 12 days since I've had a drink.
- 4:35I was defending the thing that was killing me.
- 4:37I didn't know that I was defending the, when I put
- 4:40alcohol in me, I put a murderer inside of me and, and I think
- 4:43it's my best friend. That's the grave emotional
- 4:45mental disorder that I have towards alcohol.
- 4:48So anyway, these doctors say, well you're not epileptic, we've
- 4:50done all these tests on you, Do you drink a lot?
- 4:53We'll ask you again. I said no, so I'm defending it.
- 4:56Well, I had to continue to drink for another 12 years after that.
- 5:00So I reached that point of desperation, I said, and I was
- 5:02led trembling into the neutral baby in 20th October 1977.
- 5:07And by the grace of God, I haven't neither wanted to drink
- 5:10but and I wanted to stop the suffering because they say once
- 5:13you take the brand out the fruitcake, it left with the
- 5:15fruitcake and that was nuts, absolute nuts.
- 5:18My head was going to 300 miles an hour.
- 5:20The guilt of my past was before my eyes, the fear of the future,
- 5:24both these things, Arthur calls it the tyranny of of this the
- 5:28superego. I know what he means by that
- 5:30today. I was being tortured by that all
- 5:32my life and it wasn't the drinking, it was the times in
- 5:35between drinking because once she withdrew the alcohol, the
- 5:38alcoholism started to take, you know, started to take its place.
- 5:42But broken old Jack was a very good help to me because I was
- 5:46listening to his story. When he said when he first came
- 5:48in, he said when he first meeting, he said thank God my
- 5:53defects of character were not working against me when I went
- 5:56to that meeting. I could have thought they said
- 5:58when these people were talking, the older members, he says.
- 6:02I could have thought, what were these mugs?
- 6:04No, I'd rather die than listen. But he said he thought that
- 6:07could be right. And that was the biggest gamble
- 6:10of my life, especially the third step.
- 6:13I thought if I take that third step, honestly, I have lost all
- 6:17control of my life. I never had any control of my
- 6:20life. And I look back on it.
- 6:21But if I turn my will and my life over to the care of God and
- 6:25I didn't think God cared. I thought God was a a dictator.
- 6:29I took the worst the Catholic faith.
- 6:31I grew up as a Catholic and I've got the fear.
- 6:33I've got this fear. I thought I'm going to hell.
- 6:35I might as well go. I might as well go.
- 6:37My hung for a sheep is a lamb. That was that was my philosophy.
- 6:40So I just went and done exactly what I wanted to do, but I
- 6:43didn't understand there's a consequence for not obeying
- 6:47defects of character. And I know today I'm not
- 6:50punished for my defects of character, but I can be punished
- 6:53by them. That's very clear in my, in my
- 6:56mind today. And I'm not a sin in any way,
- 6:58shape or form. And I said to Broken Hill, Jack,
- 7:01I said, got to get in touch with my conscience.
- 7:03He said, yes. He said, oh, your conscience
- 7:05won't stop me from doing the wrong thing, but it'll stop me
- 7:07from enjoying it. And that, that was good for me
- 7:10to hear because I started to get the consequences of my
- 7:13behaviour. It's my behaviour.
- 7:15And then later on when I'm reading the big book, they said
- 7:18if a behaviour continues to harm others, we're quite sure to
- 7:21drink. God, I thought what a statement
- 7:24that is. And I know today the insanity
- 7:27part of it was the fear I had. That's why I never went to
- 7:29psychiatrist. I thought if I go to a
- 7:31psychiatrist, he'll lock me up for the rest of my life if if I
- 7:34tell him the things that I'm doing.
- 7:36When I get drunk, I'm climbing on top of buildings, I'm jumping
- 7:39from one building to the other, start raving mad.
- 7:42And in Scotland it's all slate. Well, if it's a wet day, you'd
- 7:45be straight right down onto the ground.
- 7:47But I was like Spider man. I wasn't insane when I was
- 7:49drinking. But I know today that for me,
- 7:52that insane part of it, I said the broken of Jack, am I crazy?
- 7:54Said no, you know crazy. He said that step was not
- 7:57talking about insane being crazy.
- 7:59He said you would never have found your way to the meeting.
- 8:02But for me, I believe this is my belief.
- 8:05Insanity for me means emotions out of control.
- 8:09That's why people kill each other.
- 8:10I believe. And I've got an extreme nature.
- 8:13Not many people. If you if you get a resentment,
- 8:16you want to burn their house down and kill their dogs.
- 8:18That's the way I was, that deep seated anger that was deep
- 8:22within me and bitterness at life as well.
- 8:25Better it being a failure because I failed at everything
- 8:27I'd done in my life. I failed at being a son.
- 8:29I failed at being a husband. I failed at everything I tried
- 8:32because I was doing it my way. I had no connection with a
- 8:35higher power. So anyway, thank God I had a
- 8:37beautiful sponsor, Roy from Mossman.
- 8:39He was a secretary of the Mossman group.
- 8:42So I said, can you help me with the steps?
- 8:43He said yes, OK. He said the number one step is
- 8:47if you ever walk away from me and you'll deny the first step,
- 8:50you'll take the power back again.
- 8:52If you're you're not admitting you're powerless over alcohol,
- 8:54that's the one he said you have to do perfectly.
- 8:57And then the second step of the program for me was about the
- 9:00group of people because as Jack Brennan points out, there's no
- 9:03mention of a higher power than that step.
- 9:05It's all about a power greater than self.
- 9:07Well, the group was a power greater than myself.
- 9:10And they said things like, hey, we'll introduce you to yourself
- 9:12in the hope that you and yourself can become friends.
- 9:15And the Scottish poet Robbie Bonds, I think he puts it
- 9:17perfect when he says, oh, what a gift that God could give us to
- 9:20see ourselves as others seers. I started to see myself and
- 9:24other people. I started to see that liar, that
- 9:27manipulator, that person who was full of fear, putting on a front
- 9:30all the time, dressing up the cosmetic recovery, Giorgio
- 9:35Armani suit and the Rolex, you know, Mr. Big coming into
- 9:38meetings. But what I was hiding and there
- 9:40was I was hiding my alcoholism. Alcoholism is a problem, not the
- 9:44alcohol today, but I'll tell you what alcohol isn't.
- 9:47Alcohol will become the problem if I stop coming to meetings.
- 9:50So they told me this is a simply beautiful program, beautifully
- 9:54simple, and if you don't leave the meetings, you'll never need
- 9:56to come back. I took that advice on board.
- 9:58And then when it came to the third step of the program, I
- 10:03thought, this is going to be the biggest gamble of my life, if
- 10:06I'm going to be honest about handing my will and my life over
- 10:09to the care of a God that I did not understand.
- 10:12Then I said, if that fails, time's up.
- 10:15Well, I knew time was up anyway, my life was over when I came
- 10:18here. I was, I had no money.
- 10:20I had no nothing. I was, I had five days without
- 10:23eating. I was a skeleton, malnutrition
- 10:26and all that type of thing was was there at the time.
- 10:28So and then I said to him, tell me something I said about the
- 10:32fourth step. He said, well, you have to take
- 10:34the third step before the 4th step.
- 10:36That's how this works. So anyway, I get what he means
- 10:39by that today. And as I said, well, and they
- 10:41told me, they said, if you've got an unmanageable life, what
- 10:44do you do? If your money's unmanageable?
- 10:46You go to a money manager, don't you?
- 10:48You get a manager. He said, if you turn your will
- 10:51and your life over to the care of God, he says you somebody
- 10:54will be managing your life for you.
- 10:55And I saw in the members of Alcoholics Anonymous, they had
- 10:59AI could see God and a lot of people, they were lovely.
- 11:02They were, they were, they were God like people.
- 11:05They were kind, they were loving and and they were practical and
- 11:08down to earth and speaking the ugly truth.
- 11:11I thought the truth was a nice thing.
- 11:13But I know today the truth about me is not nice, not nice at all.
- 11:17So I'm starting to hear these home truths about myself.
- 11:21And then, you know, they said reservations are for Indians.
- 11:24I'm not. I never got over that one from
- 11:26the beginning. And one reservation I've seen
- 11:29happen to so many Alcoholics. Oh yes, I'll stay sober.
- 11:32But and then my sponsor said to me, you know what he said?
- 11:37There's a big difference between resignation and acceptance.
- 11:39Now that's the reason I needed a serenity prayer because hood my
- 11:43walk into a name and say I'm an alcoholic.
- 11:46Yes, I'll accept that and I'll turn my will and my life over to
- 11:49God. No, then work that way for me.
- 11:52Excuse me a minute. I've just got a bit of a dry
- 11:54throat. Resignation.
- 11:58Resignation for me means, yes, I'll stay sober for now and see
- 12:03how long that happens, you know, and that's not acceptance at
- 12:06all. So I began to say the Serenity
- 12:08Prayer and I was praying for acceptance and I said to Broken
- 12:12Hill, Jack, Jack, how do you become willing?
- 12:14People talk about honesty, open mindedness, willingness.
- 12:17What is willingness? He said you ask God to make you
- 12:20willing to be willing. He was trying to tell me you're
- 12:22powerless. You don't have any power at all.
- 12:25He said you ask God to do that and he will give you that.
- 12:28It's a gift. The sobriety is a gift for me.
- 12:30The whole thing is a gift. And that's why I believe it's a
- 12:32different life. It's not the old life patched
- 12:35up, it's a brand new life. I knew completely different way
- 12:38of seeing things. All my life I was in conflict
- 12:42with people, places and things. Why?
- 12:44Because I couldn't accept myself.
- 12:46I couldn't accept other people. I couldn't love anybody until I
- 12:49learned to love myself. I used to be in love with
- 12:51myself. I used to walk about looking at
- 12:54the mirror all the time. They'd have a look at the
- 12:56Peacock in the mirror. You see, Mr. Handsome Mad Start
- 12:59grieving mad, you know, that's that's crazy.
- 13:02And somebody sent me a, a, a thing one time of a Peacock and
- 13:05and you know, you know, the hubcap of a car, the Peacocks
- 13:08looking into the mirror. And I thought, yeah, that
- 13:10that's, that was me when I was drinking, thinking I'm grander
- 13:14or better than everybody else in the world.
- 13:16So as I say, thank God, it it reduced me to the mental level
- 13:19of an imbecile. And this and Jack used to say
- 13:22you can be too smart to get sober, but you can't be too
- 13:24stupid. I'm glad I heard.
- 13:26I'm glad I heard that type of talk because that made an awful
- 13:29lot of sense to me. So I just kept on going and you
- 13:33know, along on the journey and as I was turned daily turning my
- 13:37will and my life over to care of God.
- 13:39Well, it's in the the 12 by 12 is the last sentence that Bill W
- 13:43wrote the serenity prayer because of the power I lack
- 13:46power in my life. So when I connect to the higher
- 13:49power, I'm functioning the way that I should be, then I can't
- 13:52accept people, places and things.
- 13:54I fairly offer prayer when somebody annoys me.
- 13:57They told me if you spot it, you've got it.
- 13:59So if I'm trying to, if I'm angry at somebody, they're not
- 14:02the problem. I'm the problem because I'm not
- 14:05accepting that person, place of thing, the way it's meant to be
- 14:08for this very moment. So life has been really good.
- 14:11And you know, after all the abuse that I had of women and
- 14:14all the rest of it, I thought, if this is a loving God, I
- 14:17wonder if he can forgive me. So when I done the 4th and the
- 14:20first step, I don't my, in my case, I done it with the
- 14:23Catholic priest. And there's a reason for that in
- 14:25my case, and I only speak for it for myself, it says somewhere in
- 14:28the big book, those who belong to religious denomination can go
- 14:32to whose authority as to receive it somewhere in the book.
- 14:34Anyway, Anyway, I went to a Catholic priest and it was good.
- 14:38It's a very, very good thing and something I found out about
- 14:41that's never, ever shared this at maintenance, but it's very
- 14:44important for me. So after I'd done my first step,
- 14:47I said to the priest, I said, tell me something.
- 14:49You see, I was still going back to the old ideas.
- 14:51I'm the Sinner. I didn't know I was sick.
- 14:53I thought I was a Sinner, right? And he said, well, I said, what
- 14:58commandment was that breaking when I was drinking the way that
- 15:01I was? Well, he said if you were a
- 15:03drunkard, you'd be breaking the 5th commandment because just
- 15:07shalt not kill. But he said that doesn't apply
- 15:09to you. I said, tell me why that is.
- 15:11He said because you're an alcoholic, you have a sickness.
- 15:14He said that's the reason you were doing what you were doing.
- 15:16You're not a bad person. He said you have a you have an
- 15:19illness. I know he was saying the the
- 15:21drunkard does this deliberately. And I said to him, what?
- 15:24What's the evidence that of that?
- 15:25He said, well, you're sober now, aren't you?
- 15:27I said, yeah, So he was telling me God's given you a gift.
- 15:30He gave you a gift of sobriety. He removed the compulsion to
- 15:33drink and that tantalizing never going away feeling of having to
- 15:38wake up every morning and think, here we go again.
- 15:41What kind of lock up is it going to be this time?
- 15:44What husband's going to come looking for me?
- 15:46Am I going to be fighting with the police again and again and
- 15:49again? A horrible way of life and not
- 15:52only that, the guilt of the past that was in the mind all the
- 15:55time. That's what the first step I
- 15:57believe does for me. I removed that and the fear of
- 16:01the future, that living in fear is a horrible place to be.
- 16:04Fear. I didn't even know what fear was
- 16:06and it says in the big book it's an evil corroding thread.
- 16:09Doesn't come from God at all. Fear.
- 16:12Fear isn't. Fear isn't.
- 16:13And I'm talking about ungrounded and unfounded fear.
- 16:16I mean, I don't, I'm afraid to cross the road or see a bus
- 16:20coming, that type of thing. But that fear of people and
- 16:24economic insecurity to talk about in the big book, That's
- 16:27what I was about all my life. I'll be OK when I've got the
- 16:30right woman. I'll be OK when I've got the
- 16:32right money. And again, it gets down to the
- 16:34money trap after that. Talks about it in the
- 16:37traditions, property and prestige can divert us from a
- 16:40primary purpose. I've seen it happen to so many
- 16:43members of Alcoholics Anonymous. And yeah, I've been in the
- 16:46company of billionaires and millionaires in the fellowship
- 16:48in the South of France. And it's not the money, it's a
- 16:51problem. It's the love of the money
- 16:54because it can take, it takes so many people away because my
- 16:57primary purpose, my number one, is to stay sober.
- 17:01And I can't sober anybody up. I don't have the power to sober
- 17:04in the up. If I did, I would have sobered
- 17:06my brothers up. All my brothers died of this
- 17:08disease and they were good men. They weren't bad men.
- 17:12It's an illness. It's a, it's a, it's the most
- 17:14ridiculous illness in the world. I think I've seen many people
- 17:18die in an operating theatre, but I've never seen people die the
- 17:21way the alcoholic does. If you die of cancer, the nurses
- 17:24are all around you or a poor person in the family.
- 17:27But when an alcoholic, I'm not saying all nurses do this, but
- 17:31when an alcoholic who's misunderstood by the people,
- 17:34they say he'd done it to himself.
- 17:35That's what happened to my brother.
- 17:37He'd done this to himself. I don't remember when he was in
- 17:40the right hospital. He was, he was dying.
- 17:42What happened to him was his esophagus started to bleed and
- 17:45he was going down into his stomach and, and the blood was
- 17:48coming up through his nose and his mouth.
- 17:49That's how he died of it. It's a horrible disease,
- 17:51alcoholism. But you know, the recovery is
- 17:54very important for me and I can't recover by myself.
- 17:58My sponsor says to me, go and listen to the older members,
- 18:02don't judge them. He says go to school and the
- 18:04older members listen to the message, he said and don't judge
- 18:07the messenger. Very important that I adhere to
- 18:10that principle today. So when I listen to the other
- 18:13people, people teach me what to do in the fellowship and what
- 18:16not to do. Equally important.
- 18:18And they said don't get involved in an emotional relationship,
- 18:21especially in the early part of your sobriety.
- 18:23Well, I didn't, I listened to that, but God did a, a good plan
- 18:27for me. I got married to a beautiful
- 18:29lady. We had eight children.
- 18:30She had eight children. Three of the boys now are sober
- 18:33in the fellowship and that's the that's my family.
- 18:36As I said, I didn't sober them up.
- 18:38If I did, I would, I would apply that to my brothers.
- 18:41But life has been very good for me and it's been so many
- 18:44blessings. But I need the connection with
- 18:47another alcoholic. I always drink an alcoholic
- 18:49every day in my life. So I always make that connection
- 18:52and listen because I'm a type of person.
- 18:56I'm an alcoholic, so that means I have a head instinct like
- 19:00diabetics, you know, they get together or if I'm don't come to
- 19:04meetings, I'll go to the pub automatically because I need to
- 19:07be with Alcoholics. They say the birds of a feather
- 19:10who flock together. My emotional relations.
- 19:13I relate to Alcoholics. I relate because I know what
- 19:16that quirky makeup is and I think I came out the circus out
- 19:20there and I came into the zoo and I know it's like a zoo.
- 19:23There's one of everything and it's a beautiful thing.
- 19:26That's the lovely thing about it.
- 19:27We've got we've got every type of person in this fellowship.
- 19:32There's nothing boring about it. I don't know.
- 19:34And what I was just talking about before the meeting.
- 19:36Boring is a sin in many ways. They call it Enu.
- 19:39I've been bored all the time. That's what I was like when I
- 19:41was drinking and then I thought the best way to fix boredom is
- 19:45just drink the anaesthetic of alcohol, not knowing that it's a
- 19:48toxic poison that kills with abuse.
- 19:50Doesn't say that in Johnny Walker Black Label, doesn't it?
- 19:53No, they don't do it. They wouldn't market it, but
- 19:55they were saying that on it. But I had no idea what I was
- 19:58dealing with when I came in here.
- 20:01But life has said it's been, it's been a, a wonderful life in
- 20:04the sense that I'm not talking. I'm not happy, joyous and free
- 20:07every day. But I've had so many times of
- 20:10peace in my life. I know how to get peace today
- 20:14because you taught me that. You taught me that peace comes
- 20:17through prayer, prayer and meditation.
- 20:19I'm not talking about yoga now. I'm not talking about
- 20:22Transcendental Meditation for me.
- 20:24And I only speak to myself when I'm talking.
- 20:26I read that step clearly and it couples it together, prayer and
- 20:30meditation. And I love to hear the Saint
- 20:33Francis of Assisi prayer. That to me is the opposite of
- 20:36self. It's in giving the receive.
- 20:39It's in pardoning my pardon. And that the thing about about
- 20:42forgiveness, I'm just closing this.
- 20:44I'm getting very close to the time now.
- 20:46I said to my sponsor, when I'd done the fifth step, I said, I'm
- 20:49having a terrible problem forgiving myself.
- 20:51I said, well, God's forgiven you.
- 20:53You think you're better than God.
- 20:54You think you're above him. He said he's forgiven you all
- 20:57the things that you've done in the past.
- 20:59Not only that, he said, he's given you a wonderful gift.
- 21:02And I said the way you keep it is to give it away.
- 21:05Just keep going to meetings and meetings and meetings and
- 21:08listening. I didn't know that listening was
- 21:10a, was a spiritual thing. I didn't know the spiritual
- 21:13malady. That's why I'm thank God I
- 21:15didn't attack it from a mental point of view because I've got,
- 21:18I've got an alcoholic mind. So I, I, I, I do the spiritual
- 21:23thing for me, I'll let go and I let God.
- 21:26And that's the, that's the easiest thing in the world to do
- 21:29and the hardest thing to practice.
- 21:32I mean, it's the same as words. It's easy to talk words, but
- 21:36action, they told me was the magic word.
- 21:38Action is joining a group, service to the group, being
- 21:42connected to that. I've always been a member of a
- 21:44group in all of my sobriety. And because they tell me it's
- 21:47not the person that makes a group, it's a group that makes a
- 21:49person all these little things that you hear.
- 21:52And then when it when it comes to practising the steps for me
- 21:56that told me is to save you from killing yourself.
- 21:59That's what it's to do. It's not to get you to heaven
- 22:01around like that. But the second part of it is the
- 22:04traditions. It's to stop you from killing
- 22:06other people and that's a fact because society is in danger.
- 22:11If I drink, I get behind the wheel of a car and I'm start
- 22:13raving mad. Off goes my head and on goes a
- 22:16pumpkin. And it's Halloween everyday.
- 22:18That's what it is. It's all madness.
- 22:20And we're talking crap and the pubs and we're all kings of the
- 22:23world. We haven't got enough to get a
- 22:25bus fare home. And what we're talking about,
- 22:27we're going to buy houses and do it.
- 22:29And Oh my God, and we're going to give somebody else a chance
- 22:32to talk. And thanks a lot for listening
- 22:33to me. A A has more than two million
- 22:37recovering Alcoholics throughout the world.
- 22:40In Australia there are about 18,000 members.
- 22:44They're made in over 2000 local meetings spread around the
- 22:49country. Meetings range in size from a
- 22:52handful in some areas to hundreds or more in larger
- 22:56communities. And once again, if anyone you
- 23:00know is struggling with alcohol issues, please call Alcoholics
