- 0:00When given the choice, I take the German car every time.
- 0:03This week on that car show we are back as a crew show.
- 0:07We talk about Arizona Car Week sharing some of the experiences.
- 0:11During the week. I talk about getting my hands on
- 0:14a Lucid Gravity. Spoiler alert, it didn't suck
- 0:20Lucid Gravity. We also talk a little bit about
- 0:24the future of Tesla and when Tesla is going.
- 0:28Just when you thought we hadn't had enough lists, we have a new
- 0:30list. This is the mid list.
- 0:33Apparently all the young people have stopped saying it, so we're
- 0:36allowed to now. All that and a whole lot more on
- 0:40this weeks that car show. Welcome to this weeks that car
- 0:44share when we're back with a cruise show.
- 0:46Before we get started, I think we need to wish special someone
- 0:50a happy birthday. So Missus Barkey senior, many
- 0:54happy returns. We hope you've had a lovely day.
- 0:57We hope Michael has cooked you breakfast in bed and had a
- 1:00wonderful day. That's right, we will.
- 1:03We'll spare you by not singing, but we hope you have an amazing
- 1:06day. Yes, Happy birthday.
- 1:08Thanks, Dan. Yeah.
- 1:09How are you guys doing? Happy to be here.
- 1:13Great to see you guys. Brian, how about you?
- 1:15Yeah, doing OK hanging in there. Is anyone having a great year so
- 1:19far? I feel like it's a mix, right?
- 1:25I think Nikum's having a great year.
- 1:27Yeah, yeah, Nikum's having a wonderful year, aren't they?
- 1:31I our good friends at Haggerty shared some information today by
- 1:36former guest of the show, John. But he was comparing year on
- 1:40year and last year, Meekum's total sales at the Kissimmee
- 1:44auction were $215 million this year.
- 1:51And obviously there was some big hitters this year, but it was
- 1:54double, it was $420 million, assuming everyone's going to pay
- 1:59their bills. But yeah, I mean a wonderful.
- 2:03Year, right? But they're generally looking at
- 2:07these stats, they're comparing Arizona Car Week and make them
- 2:11and everyone is up year on year, which is good news I guess for
- 2:13the automotive used car markets. I mean, that's what they always
- 2:17want to see. I mean, if you can, you can
- 2:19double your profits, you're doing OK.
- 2:22Someone's getting a bonus this year.
- 2:24Right. Yeah.
- 2:25But good news, good news, Ryan. How is the Pell St. gang?
- 2:29Is there still stuff going on there?
- 2:31You know, I think one person showed up last week because it
- 2:34was like 1°. So Chris Coleman, good on you.
- 2:38Sorry, none of the rest of us showed up, but was it the week
- 2:41before? We had a pretty good turn out at
- 2:43my place and that was a lot of fun.
- 2:44I'm still getting over that. And that was a beautiful day,
- 2:47which helps, right? So, so lesson learned.
- 2:49If you're going to have a car gathering, you know, pray for
- 2:51good weather, right? It looked really fun and yeah, I
- 2:56mean, So what was it like hosting your own cars and
- 2:59coffee? Like obviously it's the group
- 3:01that you know, but you. Know Yeah, yeah it was supposed
- 3:04to just be our group and then I think the word got out and there
- 3:07were quite a few people who showed up but it was great.
- 3:08Everyone was behaved. No one peeled out we tore
- 3:11through dozens of Donuts. The neighbors came out It was
- 3:14great it was fun. It was exactly what what it
- 3:17should have been and yeah, very fortunate to have such a nice
- 3:21group of friends and acquaintances and neighbors and
- 3:23stuff. You know it's it's it was kind
- 3:25of a throwback cars and coffee. It felt organic and it felt you
- 3:28know I mean it was it was lo fi the very best way which was
- 3:32which was cool. So thank you to all of you who
- 3:34who showed up for that. I was really pleasantly
- 3:36surprised at the at the numbers and the quality of cars.
- 3:40There were some amazing cars, right?
- 3:42Well, OK, so tell us what you had like which which kind of
- 3:46special cars we're going to. Do it was a spider Rs.
- 3:49There was a beautiful 930 portion turbo that showed up in
- 3:53a really unusual blue color. That friend had just picked up
- 3:58our buddy Tom Horan and his new Emery outlaw that was that was
- 4:03here lots of GT threes and GT fours and that kind of thing.
- 4:07There was a bug eye Sprite there was because there's an old MR2.
- 4:12I mean, there's all kinds of cool stuff mostly, Mostly
- 4:14Porsche, pretty Porsche heavy of course, but just missing the two
- 4:18of you in your perspective. GT4 and 4 point O GTS 4 point O
- 4:24so. What is the etiquette for if you
- 4:26host a cars and coffee at your house?
- 4:28Because like if I was to come for dinner, I'd bring a bottle
- 4:31of wine. Did they bring whiskey?
- 4:33Did they bring doughnuts or did they bring anything?
- 4:36Unfortunately, no whiskey, but lots of people brought
- 4:39doughnuts, bagels, that kind of thing.
- 4:40Coffee, which was which was nice.
- 4:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:43It's, you know, it was a Sunday morning.
- 4:44I could have passed around the collection plate, I suppose, but
- 4:48you know, it was. It's nice just to see everyone's
- 4:51faces in cars. You know, they're not so a good
- 4:54currency, aren't they? They are, yeah.
- 4:55I want to do it again, though. It was a It was a hell of a lot
- 4:57of fun and you know it. The pictures looked great and,
- 5:02you know, short of getting to be there, it was a great way to
- 5:04participate and kind of get a little slice of the fun that you
- 5:08guys were having, Yeah. It was great.
- 5:10It was. Great.
- 5:10And the weather looked amazing, which we've had here too the
- 5:14last 10 days. I think so.
- 5:16The next time, if you're going to go to Ryan's house, he's got
- 5:19VIP parking, but you have to bring a bottle of whiskey that
- 5:23sounds. There, there you go.
- 5:24So you know I have way more garage than I have fleet right?
- 5:27So I filled in one of the blanks with a buddy's beautiful 356
- 5:34Cabriolet, beautiful black car, just a lovely, lovely car.
- 5:37And I thought maybe, you know, if I kind of, it would manifest,
- 5:42right? Like if, if this car spent some
- 5:43time in my garage, it looks so good sitting next to my GT4.
- 5:47Of course, when he went to start it up, the thing let out the
- 5:50biggest backfire ever heard. And I see people sort of duck
- 5:56and, you know, like big puff of smoke, like cartoonish puff of
- 5:59smoke. And of course, he swears it had
- 6:01never happened before, but it was kind of a nice, nice
- 6:05punctuation to the day, if you. Yeah.
- 6:08So thanks for. Let me pretend that car was mine
- 6:11for a morning, you know? We do a little like Field of
- 6:14Dreams, like if you park it in the garage, eventually you'll
- 6:16have one. That's right.
- 6:17I thought about just closing the door.
- 6:19You know What Car you know? Didn't see anything.
- 6:22Because that is 110. That's right, right.
- 6:26They could do a little detailing and get a mechanic's lien going
- 6:29or something, you know? But I won a 356 seeing that car
- 6:33in my garage and it was just such a nice compliment to what I
- 6:36have. And they're just such good cars,
- 6:39such good cars. Beautiful thing, but.
- 6:41Is that something that you have wanted before?
- 6:44No, it's something that since I've been involved with the
- 6:47Colorado Grand, you know, they've really grown on me.
- 6:50And you know, I realize a lot of these cars, they don't fit so
- 6:52well in right. But the 3:56 I've been just
- 6:55fine. And you know, it's familiar and
- 6:58they're just, you know, they they don't break down like some
- 7:01of the other cars do. They're really reliable relative
- 7:03to some of the other stuff. And they're just they're
- 7:05timeless. You know, I wish I would have
- 7:08kind of gotten into them ten years ago, but, you know, buy
- 7:12high, sell low, right? Yep.
- 7:15Even boxers are expensive these days.
- 7:17Like the original, boxers are going up in value.
- 7:21I feel like about that, right? I know I feel like it's right on
- 7:24the cusp of you could still find one now, but that's not going to
- 7:28be true for much longer. I think people are starting to
- 7:31because it's more, I think of the Porsches, those are
- 7:34currently still more, a bit more accessible.
- 7:38Yeah. But that may not be the case
- 7:40much longer. Yeah.
- 7:42Yeah, I was reading that the Pacific Northwest is getting, I
- 7:47guess, I'm sorry, we're putting it, it's getting a lot less
- 7:50rainfall than normal. Is that right?
- 7:53Yeah, it's been, I think, and I think that's been true the last
- 7:57couple of years, like maybe the last four years.
- 8:01There has been an unusual period of sunshine and clear skies in
- 8:05January, which we never used to have.
- 8:07But it does allow you to get your fun cars out if you thought
- 8:11they were put away for the whole winter.
- 8:14So we took the GT4 out last weekend I think and.
- 8:18Speaking of waking up the neighborhood, right?
- 8:20Yeah. Do you have like a route now?
- 8:24Have you got like a route that you can go to?
- 8:26No, so that's been kind of fun just exploring and you know,
- 8:31because I know the roads up here a little better than Tory does.
- 8:34So it's been fun kind of showing him a few of them.
- 8:36But really a lot of my just kind of like cruise driving has been
- 8:41in California. So yeah, it was fun to sort of
- 8:45just get out and go and, you know, just cruise and get get
- 8:50reacquainted and remember just how good the car is because,
- 8:54man, you know, I don't care what's going on, a few seconds
- 8:56behind the wheel and all is right with the world.
- 8:59Such a good car. There we go.
- 9:01And I misread your notes, Lindsay, because you went to the
- 9:04advance meet at the racetrack and I thought you said that
- 9:07there was an electric mix of cars and it was eclectic mix of
- 9:11cars. I mean it sounds like a shit car
- 9:15joke. You're like, I'm so glad you
- 9:17went and I didn't. Yeah.
- 9:21That's really funny. I mean, it felt electric.
- 9:23It, it was crazy because, and because of the weather being so
- 9:28good, they had kind of an impromptu cars and coffee down
- 9:31at Pacific Raceways in Kent, where the performance driving
- 9:35school is. And we got there it like we were
- 9:40maybe 1/2 hour after it started. But you know, it's kind of open
- 9:42house and there were probably 150 cars there.
- 9:46Like I've never seen that many cars there at one time.
- 9:48It was like going to the Willow Springs reimagined and seeing
- 9:53the number of cars there and just going like there's more
- 9:55cars here than there have been in 10 years.
- 9:56Like I've never seen that many cars at Pacific at once.
- 10:00Almost the whole paddock was full, which was so much fun.
- 10:04And it was, they were all over the map.
- 10:06Like I was just looking at my pictures, you know, there was a
- 10:10one of the most recent generations, GT350 Mustangs,
- 10:13blue with white stripes, which is what I had.
- 10:15So that's always a treat to see. And they had you know, there was
- 10:21the kitchens who run the school. They now have a pro 3E30 race
- 10:26car. So that was there.
- 10:27I hadn't seen it in person. That was fun.
- 10:29Obviously a lot of Porsches. There were two of the the black
- 10:34Wing sedan Cadillacs, which is like one in that launch.
- 10:38Blue. So cool, yeah.
- 10:42Well, and they're such a sleeper, if you don't know what
- 10:44they are and then you hear them and you're like, wait a minute,
- 10:47like what's going on there? And there was this gorgeous Audi
- 10:52like midnight purple wagon, which was really cool.
- 10:56Several E30 M threes, several E36 M threes, a few of the most
- 11:03current M3 generation, like in really unique colors.
- 11:07One was this like brilliant metallic teal.
- 11:09And then there was a rust colored one.
- 11:12And what was really cool is then there was an E36 rust colored
- 11:16one and you could see them. So it was like, you know, seeing
- 11:19the progression in real life. Lindsay Most importantly, were
- 11:23there any E39-M5 owners? That were out for blood.
- 11:30There were not. Yeah, right.
- 11:32I had more than a couple people reach out.
- 11:35If you haven't heard the last episode, we did a bit on cars
- 11:39that worst cars you've ever driven, which is strong
- 11:42language, but you were really underwhelmed with the E39-M5.
- 11:47And it wasn't a car I thought was going to be brought up in
- 11:50that segment. But the consensus seems to be
- 11:54the the good cars are really good and the cars that aren't,
- 11:57aren't. And.
- 11:58Oh interesting, but they are a loyal a loyal bunch.
- 12:02They are. I figured that would generate
- 12:05some engagement, one way or not. Yeah, I know.
- 12:09Well, and it's so funny because I dropped off the M3 for service
- 12:13today. And as I pulled up to the shop,
- 12:15there was an E395 series in this gorgeous, you know, ice blue.
- 12:20And as soon as I rounded the corner and saw it, I went.
- 12:22Oh, and then I was laughing at myself because I remembered what
- 12:25we talked about last week. I mean, I really do love them
- 12:29so. OK, Lindsay.
- 12:31Yeah, right. And then there was a typhoon at
- 12:35the Avant. Oh.
- 12:36Wow. OK, black.
- 12:37Typhoon there was a beautiful kind of mustard yellow 912.
- 12:43There was a 1978 Cadillac in this like you know the butter
- 12:47yellow kind of of that era that was really cool.
- 12:50There was a one of the new Alpha Julia Quadrifolio in that
- 12:55brilliant emerald green that they have.
- 12:58So this wasn't collectic. It was it was a really fun mix.
- 13:02It was like a true, you know what you when you go to a cars
- 13:05and coffee that isn't themed and you're just it was like mixed
- 13:08nuts. It was so much fun because every
- 13:10row was this really random mix. It was modern vintage, you know,
- 13:16high performance, regular all over the map.
- 13:19So definitely worth going. And you know, it's always fun to
- 13:23get to see the performance crew, too, so we got to catch up with
- 13:27them and see the dogs and it's all good.
- 13:29Yes, Cool. Yeah, we made the rest of the
- 13:32weather. I was on a mission last weekend
- 13:34to report back on Scottsdale Car Week.
- 13:36Yeah, Yes, I was. All about it.
- 13:40I made it out alive, which is a good thing.
- 13:43It's huge. This year it was huge, from
- 13:46everything from car sales to everyone was down there.
- 13:52And yeah, it was a good week, a really good week.
- 13:54And it started at Radford Race School.
- 13:57So this was formerly the Bondurant School of Racing.
- 14:01And yeah, so we went there and they've obviously got the Dodge
- 14:06Hellcats. And at that point I didn't have
- 14:09a car to drive. I was being chauffeured around
- 14:12in a VW Atlas and I was going to get a Hellcat for the week.
- 14:18They were going to give me a Hellcat, but then Market Radford
- 14:22said, hey, do you want to try this instead?
- 14:24And he gave me the keys to elucid gravity.
- 14:28What an amazing surprise. Right.
- 14:31And not being a big electric car person, like, you know, I was
- 14:35like, do I want the keys to this or give me the Hellcat?
- 14:39But we decided that the, yeah, the Gravity was going to be a
- 14:43better car for the purposes of the week in terms of hosting
- 14:46compliance and, you know, doing a lot of driving.
- 14:49And yeah, it was, it was quick. It was, it's probably the
- 14:53quickest car I've ever driven, which is saying something.
- 14:57And it was like, what's the right way of putting it?
- 15:00It's like seductively quick in terms of like you want more, you
- 15:05just it. Lulls you into.
- 15:09Yeah, I mean lots of. People siren song.
- 15:13Siren. You had the actual siren song
- 15:14behind you and then you're screwed.
- 15:16Yeah, that's. In all the ways.
- 15:18A lot of people were saying, oh, is that a people carrier all
- 15:21week? So I think it has a split
- 15:24identity. The The thing is like when you
- 15:27want to drive it quickly, you want it in the lowest setting.
- 15:29So it doesn't actually look, it looks more like a wagon or a,
- 15:33you know, a people carrier than it does.
- 15:35So it should. Be.
- 15:37But that's because you're you're driving it low.
- 15:40So is it so you can raise and lower the ride height?
- 15:44Yeah, yeah, big time. Yeah.
- 15:45There's like 5 or 6 settings I didn't even realize.
- 15:49That. I think it was a pre production
- 15:51car, so I hope it was a pre production car because some of
- 15:56the technology was a bit amiss. But I really loved.
- 16:00We went to Sedona for the day and I, I took it on a very
- 16:05spirited drive back through the mountains.
- 16:08We went to various locations that, you know, that had
- 16:11twisties and even one set of roads that we had that were
- 16:14twisties were one lane, as in there was a separate road to the
- 16:17left that was going up the hill and.
- 16:19We were going down there like Split Highway.
- 16:21Yeah, split highway and the regen, you have settings on the
- 16:25regen and that like I haven't had many electric cars and they
- 16:28were and you were a purveyor of an electric car.
- 16:31But the regen on it, obviously it doesn't work when your
- 16:35battery is fully charged because it's got nothing to regen into.
- 16:39But it was you could set it to hard, which was fantastic
- 16:43because it it really helped breaking into the corners.
- 16:48Apart from the time where I went all in into a corner and it
- 16:50failed And luckily I managed to get it out of the corner of the
- 16:54other side. But I don't know if that is a
- 16:58you know, maybe it needs to come with a warning saying if you go
- 17:00into a corner quicker than 100 miles an hour, it's not going to
- 17:03work. I didn't think they're.
- 17:06Like we have a word minor heads up.
- 17:09But I I work OK though. The brakes.
- 17:12I think Jesus was my copilot. Into that corner.
- 17:16Yeah, it's got regen braking and the the power of the Messiah
- 17:19because, you know, I mean, out the other side official.
- 17:23Term. Yeah, it was a Code Brown moment
- 17:25for sure. Yeah, well, that was the only
- 17:27time it failed on me. But I loved the regen.
- 17:30It gave me confidence in performance driving.
- 17:33But it's it's the heaviest car I think I've ever driven as well,
- 17:37so. And did you feel the weight when
- 17:40you were driving it? Yeah, yeah.
- 17:43I mean, they've done a good job of trying to reduce that, but it
- 17:47is a it's like it's probably one of the heaviest cars on the
- 17:50market. But on the freeway, like you
- 17:54would just put your foot on the accelerator and like you were
- 17:58doing 110 allegedly before you knew it.
- 18:02Yeah, it was earthquake. Because Lindsay and I have
- 18:05driven this car, but only in the confines of downtown LA during
- 18:08the auto show, right? So.
- 18:10I think you drove the air, didn't you?
- 18:13We drove the air. All three of us drove the air a
- 18:16year ago, and then this year we got to drive the gravity.
- 18:19So I was really excited when you said you had one for this
- 18:22extended length of time. Yeah.
- 18:25Well, and so Ryan did you, what did you think about it?
- 18:27Because when we drove the air in 2024, I loved it instantly.
- 18:33Yeah, it was one of the few cars that I just went like,
- 18:35absolutely, yes, all of it. I'll take it.
- 18:37Yeah. The gravity I didn't have that
- 18:40sort of gut response to. Yeah.
- 18:42I thought the gravity seemed a little more buttoned up a
- 18:44little, you know, just better put together, I guess, you know,
- 18:48because when we drove that that that air, it was I think a
- 18:51pretty early one. I don't think we had full power
- 18:55in either of these, you know, these cars and we drove them
- 18:58unlike you, so didn't really get a sense of the power in quite
- 19:00the same way. But they're neat because they're
- 19:04unlike anything else, right? They just they have a vibe
- 19:08that's just different and you know, they're they're they're
- 19:12cool. I really I thought they were
- 19:13very comfortable. I like the fit and finish, the
- 19:15quality of the materials, but, you know, it's, it's, it's hard
- 19:21out there, you know, for a small electric car company.
- 19:24And so I don't know, you know, what the future holds, but I'd
- 19:28love to see them succeed because I think they've got a really
- 19:30compelling product, you know, and I think maybe I'd like the
- 19:33air. I think maybe I'd like the sedan
- 19:35better in a, in a way, I'm not quite sure I'd have to drive
- 19:37them both again, Lucid and, and do a vacuum act.
- 19:40And this time give us the full bore, you know, versions,
- 19:43please. Yeah, so.
- 19:44I don't know what settings, but the settings on the new one that
- 19:50is calm and calm is like eco mode.
- 19:53And I think that's a riff on Tesla because Tesla have a
- 19:55similar phrase. Yeah, next one, which really is
- 20:00probably why I love the car. It's called Swift there.
- 20:03You go so the middle of. That talk about a match made in
- 20:06heaven. Yeah.
- 20:07And then the Nordus 60 like if you want to if you want to beat
- 20:10like GT3's off the line. The nought to 60 is is called
- 20:13Sprint so it's got 3 modes on it.
- 20:16But I couldn't get Apple CarPlay to work.
- 20:19Let me let me guess, you never took it out of?
- 20:20Swift. No.
- 20:22Yeah, it lived in Swift. Why would you?
- 20:26Right? Three days in, I discovered that
- 20:29electric seats also were massaging seats.
- 20:32Oh. So that was cool.
- 20:34Yeah, yeah, that's a nice discovery.
- 20:37Yeah, it was. It was a lovely surprise.
- 20:39But what does this do? Oh, hello.
- 20:44Yeah, buy me dinner first, right?
- 20:45That's right. We.
- 20:46Can. Let you down.
- 20:49We should have had like a Taylor Swift lyric on deck to share.
- 20:53There we go. Edits it and lights it.
- 20:56Can't you, Ryan? Or we can just do an insert your
- 20:59favorite Taylor Swift lyric here.
- 21:01Yeah, we're also one in the comments guys.
- 21:03Yeah, there. You go.
- 21:04Wittiest comment wins. I challenge you go.
- 21:07Yeah. There you go, but Counting Crows
- 21:10titles also work. Yes.
- 21:13True. So how many people, how many
- 21:16people like what was the most, how many, what was the Max
- 21:20number of people that you had in it during the week when you.
- 21:23Were tearing people around. I had four people in it at one
- 21:26point. They all agreed that when you
- 21:27really put your foot down, everyone feels nauseous in the
- 21:30car. But they did love the heated
- 21:33seats in the back. So, but yeah, at one point there
- 21:36was four of us in it and there was an extra row.
- 21:38So there's three rows. Yeah.
- 21:41But you don't get much luggage space with the three rows, So
- 21:43obviously you put the 3rd row down if you want the luggage
- 21:46space. Very cool.
- 21:47But yeah, I want to spend more time in one and hopefully with
- 21:51the technology working. Like I couldn't get CarPlay to
- 21:53work and so I had to separately match Spotify.
- 21:58So there was a separate app for Spotify and you do a QR code.
- 22:01So but yeah, I loved it. A, you know, for an electric car
- 22:05and I had all sorts of problems with Tesla and we'll maybe come
- 22:08onto Tesla in a minute. But at the end of my spirited
- 22:11Dr. I ended up with 30 miles left and managed to navigate to
- 22:15a Tesla hyper chargers. And this is like probably 6 in
- 22:19the evening and I'm about an hour and a half away from
- 22:21Phoenix. So anyway, I go to plug in,
- 22:24nothing. I then download the app, and if
- 22:28you've used the Tesla app, you download the app and then it
- 22:31emails you a code and you put the code in.
- 22:34But the problem was there was such a delay.
- 22:36Every time I would make the request go to the e-mail, by the
- 22:40time the e-mail came in, the page had expired.
- 22:43Exactly. Yeah, The air was quite blue
- 22:46with insults towards Mr. Mask at that point.
- 22:49But eventually I then got it working.
- 22:51And then for some reason that Tesla charger wasn't on the
- 22:54charging app kidding me. And the nearest, the nearest
- 22:57Superchargers were 30 miles away and I had 30 miles left in the
- 23:02tank or the tank, I guess the battery.
- 23:05So yeah, it was very, it was a very, it was like, I think I may
- 23:10have claimed I'm never going to drive another electric car again
- 23:13at one point. Clearly I did the next day.
- 23:16But yeah, so the the charging network was still very
- 23:19frustrating. Threats were made and not
- 23:21counted. That's right.
- 23:22Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:24But I know you guys saw some news around Tesla, so I don't
- 23:26know if you want to share that now.
- 23:28Yes, I just read that Tesla will be discontinuing the Model S and
- 23:34the Model X in favor of transitioning that factory over
- 23:39to build the Optimus robots. So before long, the robots will
- 23:44run amok at Tesla. Did they transform from the from
- 23:48the semi truck into the right? That was, that was Optimus
- 23:53Prime. Optimus Prime in the
- 23:54Transformers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:56I mean that might be more like I feel like they might have better
- 23:59luck selling the robots if they did transform into a semi.
- 24:03Because Elon is saying that they are giving the Model S and Model
- 24:07XA an honorable discharge as they transition over to because
- 24:13he says we're all moving towards autonomy, whether that's
- 24:16accurate or not. And he's anticipating building a
- 24:19million robots, I think a year and selling them.
- 24:22I mean, I guess I'm more, I'm also interested in like, who are
- 24:26who's the target audience for these robots too?
- 24:30Well, let's break this down, because there's a lot going on
- 24:32here. When did the Model S come out?
- 24:34How many decades ago was that? It's been a while, right?
- 24:392012 was it earlier here? Shall I, shall I give our
- 24:43research? Please, please, Because you're
- 24:47just dealing with an old car whose time has.
- 24:50You're saying 2012? I think that's pretty.
- 24:52Is it maybe? 202011 I think they're about 17
- 24:58years old, So what would that be?
- 25:0122,000 and 9. 2009. Will will you look that up?
- 25:09Since 2012. 20120 Ryan Wow. There's a reason he's the number
- 25:14one writer on Autoblog. It gets the facts right first,
- 25:20every time. That's true.
- 25:21That's so we. Never doubted you.
- 25:25But it's an old car. That's an old car, right?
- 25:27I mean, it's that's a lot of model years, right, for
- 25:33anything. And I think they've, I want to
- 25:35say they did a nice job of keeping it current, but I was in
- 25:38one recently and it really does feel old now, right?
- 25:40Even a new one feels old. It's dated.
- 25:43And the Model 3, I think when it came out was just a superior car
- 25:46in so many ways. But the Model X, right?
- 25:53I don't know when that must have been a couple years later,
- 25:55right? So.
- 25:56I am happy to find. That out, you know, these are
- 25:59old cars. Their, their, their time has has
- 26:01come and gone. I mean, you know, I thought
- 26:03you're gonna say they're gonna get rid of these cars so they
- 26:04could finally start production of the Roadster.
- 26:07Right, they're just trying. To distract everybody with these
- 26:12robots. Yeah, look over there,
- 26:14squirrels. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:17So the Model X began production in 2015, so just a couple years
- 26:22after. That OK, OK.
- 26:23So yeah, what's left? In production, what are they
- 26:25still going to make? They're going to make the truck
- 26:27still. Yeah.
- 26:28The model 3. And the model. 3.
- 26:31And the Y yeah Y. You know, and the cab, is that
- 26:35like there's an autonomous cab as well?
- 26:37Are they making that now? That is a great question.
- 26:41They distracted everyone with the robots and did not talk
- 26:43about that on the call, at least in the article I read.
- 26:47Are these The only time I've seen one of those robots was at
- 26:49a party and it was a bartender like perfect?
- 26:53We all do need one, yeah. Actually, now that you mention
- 26:57it, yes, I could use one of those at my house.
- 27:00Yeah, actually I. Know what are they for like
- 27:03what's the purpose are they just sort of like Butler robots or
- 27:07are they you know I. Mean that's what I was
- 27:09picturing, but I. Guess industrial.
- 27:12Right, like how capable are they?
- 27:14You know, like could they be in a factory or whatever?
- 27:17The the only video I've seen, and maybe it's the same 1 Dan,
- 27:21this robot was supposed to be passing out bottles of water.
- 27:25And what it looks like is that the robot takes off a headset.
- 27:29So the inference is that the the Tele operator like wasn't logged
- 27:34out, took the headset off. The robot mimed that or mimic
- 27:38that and then fell backwards and knocked over the water.
- 27:42Oh. So on that note, maybe stick to
- 27:47building the Model S and the Model X.
- 27:50Yeah, yeah, it's I have to be careful.
- 27:53I just applied for a role at Elon.
- 27:57He has a brother named Kimball Musk who has a company called
- 28:01Nova Sky Stories. And I didn't know until after I
- 28:04applied for this job, it's a creative director role that that
- 28:06there was an affiliation. Nova Sky Stories does these
- 28:10amazing like aerial displays with thousands of drones.
- 28:13And I thought it'd be a very cool company to work further up
- 28:16in Boulder here. I did a little digging and
- 28:19apparently this came about this Kimball and his wife were a
- 28:22Burning Man a couple of years ago.
- 28:24I guess the weather was bad. They couldn't burn the man or
- 28:27something. And he thought, Gee, what this
- 28:29what Burning Man really needs is a drone show.
- 28:31And that that began, you know, this, this.
- 28:34Company show I'm the man to deliver.
- 28:36Yeah, if anyone's listening. I have Ryan, you're.
- 28:40Creative director right here, but right.
- 28:42Yeah. So yeah, yeah, you know, it's.
- 28:45A small world, Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:47Yeah, yeah. Small world, soon to be.
- 28:49Full of the drones after me get the job.
- 28:53You could have so much fun with drones would.
- 28:55That be amazing. Would that be like?
- 28:58It could be like graffiti. You could, you know, tag the
- 29:01sky. There's your new There's your
- 29:06new slogan. If you get the job, Brian, what
- 29:08you've got to do is you've got to create that car show logo.
- 29:11Inlets, Sky inlets. Have you ever actually seen one
- 29:15of those shows? Like, they're really impressive,
- 29:17right? They're.
- 29:18Incredible. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:20You know. I saw one actually at Lamar,
- 29:23They do a fireworks display. Dan, I don't know if you saw the
- 29:26fireworks, but this year they had a drone element to it and
- 29:30they spelled Le Mans in the sky vertically and they spun around.
- 29:35I mean, it's it's remarkable. What?
- 29:37They it's a 3 dimensional element, you know.
- 29:40Yeah, it was from the Indianapolis 500.
- 29:42Really. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 29:48They're like, you know what? We're just going with Indy.
- 29:51Yes. Anyway, back to car week,
- 29:55Arizona car week that is. So after getting the adrenaline
- 29:59fix at Radford Race School, and if you've not been, I would
- 30:02highly recommend it. Those guys are, you know, ahead
- 30:05of their craft when it comes to teaching safety, specifically
- 30:08driving. We went to a the owner of
- 30:12Radford's house for the evening and this is one of the highest
- 30:17demand tickets in the week. It's pretty hard to get an
- 30:21invite to that to that event. And I walked in, who do I see
- 30:25there smiling, giving me a big hug?
- 30:28Friend of the show, Jorge Aquino.
- 30:31He has clearly made it in the Arizona car community because he
- 30:36he got an invite to the artist to get in town.
- 30:38He was in good form and he was kind enough to introduce me to
- 30:42all his friends. I kind of felt like a personal
- 30:44concierge service. And every time I turn around,
- 30:47there was another guest that he said, hey, you guys should meet.
- 30:50So it was a wonderful evening. Got to hang out with Justin Bell
- 30:54as well. That's.
- 30:56Awesome. Yeah, and the folks from events,
- 30:58so Adam and Nikki, who's the director there and his husband.
- 31:03Yeah, Justin. So yeah, it was a good evening
- 31:06and a good way to start. They actually reunited Justin
- 31:10Bell with he won Le Monde in a Dodge Viper and as part of that
- 31:15he kind of got to buy a Dodge Viper stroke get given and that
- 31:19car was there. So he got reunited with that
- 31:21car, which is. Pretty Oh that's cool is that
- 31:23was that the year that he and his dad were on the same team
- 31:26that. That was earlier, Yeah, that was
- 31:28earlier. So that was in a Harrods
- 31:29McLaren. And yeah, they they ended up
- 31:33leading the race for many, many laps.
- 31:36And they weren't supposed to. So what I mean by that is this
- 31:38wasn't the factory team. So in theory the factory team
- 31:41for McLaren should be doing better than a privateer team,
- 31:45right? But yeah, they ended up, yeah,
- 31:48leaving. He's got some great stories
- 31:50about, like, you know, when you do the people transfer the mom
- 31:53when you swap drivers. Apparently he just pulled his
- 31:56dad out and his dad went rolling down the pit lane.
- 31:59Like, the adrenaline was so much that he just, like, dragged him
- 32:02out. And this is obviously Derek
- 32:04Bell, who is one of the, you know, the most important people
- 32:08in Motorsports, so. He's got a few accomplishments
- 32:12to his name. He's been around a little bit.
- 32:14So that was day one in the can. Good way to start the week.
- 32:18Day 2 we went to private collections and the first
- 32:22private collection I went to, you know, this gentleman had all
- 32:26sorts of Lamborghinis, all sorts of black series, Mercedes.
- 32:31But the most impressive achievement of all his cars is
- 32:34he invited us all into his living area.
- 32:37And you walk through the front door and what is facing straight
- 32:42ahead of you is a DeLorean. And then you look at the math of
- 32:47the door width and everything else.
- 32:49And he tells this story that he bought the car, but only on the
- 32:51condition that the person selling the car could get the
- 32:53car into the house. And the car does not fit through
- 32:57the front door. So the car actually got craned
- 33:00over the house and then moved in from the back.
- 33:04So you know, you know you've made it when you can buy a De
- 33:07Lorean and have it craned into your house.
- 33:10Yeah, yeah, yeah. How many robots have you got?
- 33:13Yeah. I mean, it'd have been much
- 33:15easier, wouldn't it, if Optimus and his friends would come along
- 33:17and move it? But yeah, so that was an
- 33:21accomplishment. You know you've made it when
- 33:22you've got a De Lorean in your front living room.
- 33:24Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And maybe that's the right place
- 33:27for a De Lorean. I was thinking that because for
- 33:30the most part, we all say we like to see cars driven and it's
- 33:33tough to see cars that are just tucked away.
- 33:36But that might actually be the perfect situation for a DeLorean
- 33:40just given their, you know, especially with the age that
- 33:43they are, because it's still being celebrated and enjoyed in
- 33:46a way that makes sense for that car.
- 33:48Have either of you ever driven A DeLorean?
- 33:50Because I haven't. I have.
- 33:52You know, maybe I'm being too, too hard on them, but you know,
- 33:56it's. No, I mean, I don't think
- 33:58they're known. I don't think they're known for
- 33:59that Reliability, yeah. Yeah, no, it's it's weird
- 34:02though, isn't it? Because in theory, part of them
- 34:04should be a good car because the chassis was developed by Colin
- 34:07Chapman of Lotus. So in theory.
- 34:10But then they went and put a French engine in the back.
- 34:12That's right. And a crappy gearbox and the
- 34:15ingredients didn't equal a great car.
- 34:18But I was. Going to say what it's it's
- 34:20lesser than the sum of its parts.
- 34:22Yeah, it's not usually the case. A rarity.
- 34:25But an icon like very few cars are and right, right?
- 34:29You know, right? That's why I think maybe
- 34:31displaying them is the perfect solution.
- 34:33That's OK, yeah. So he had a hoverboard in it,
- 34:36and he had oh. That's amazing.
- 34:38What? Was the character in Marty?
- 34:40McFly. Marty McFly, he had a driver's
- 34:43license, a California driver's license with a picture and said
- 34:47Marty McFly. So it was all about the little
- 34:49touches, which was cool, yeah. That is cool, I love that.
- 34:53Yeah, no. Plutonium was actual plutonium.
- 34:56That's right, Yeah. Everyone was glowing that
- 34:59evening. Literally.
- 35:03So that was the first car collection of the day.
- 35:04And then we went off to Sedona. And if you've not been to
- 35:08Sedona, it's a beautiful, beautiful location.
- 35:11You know, it's out in the desert.
- 35:12You've got the, you know, those rock formations that I guess
- 35:16remind me of like Airwolf or something like that, sort of,
- 35:19you know. Speaking of the 80s, yeah.
- 35:21Yeah, the theme continues. Right, like the future Airwolf.
- 35:25What else can we get in this show?
- 35:27But yeah, it's cool. And then we came back.
- 35:29And then that evening I ended up going to the auto club.
- 35:36So this is a car storage and kind of, you know, a membership
- 35:39club. They hosted a specific party for
- 35:42car week. Everything was done really
- 35:44nicely in terms of like red drapes all the way around and
- 35:48then through the drapes were roof cars mainly pushing
- 35:51through. So you could only see like two
- 35:53quarters of the car, which is quite nicely done.
- 35:57They had folks on like high wires so it was almost like a
- 36:01Cirque du Soleil meets roof. Don't fall on the roof.
- 36:05Yeah, and in the corner there was also a Zinger and I caught
- 36:12up with a guy called Cooper from Zinger.
- 36:13So shout out to him. He does all that social media
- 36:16and he's a good guy. So he's a that was a.
- 36:18Photographer too. He has worked with Haggerty and
- 36:22brought Arrow to do a lot of their photography as well.
- 36:25There we go, small world. Very small world.
- 36:27I mean, as always, yeah. And then that was Thursday,
- 36:32Friday was Barrett Jackson. And I guess firstly, thank you
- 36:38to Barrett Jackson for the hospitality because they were
- 36:40very kind enough to give us hospitality.
- 36:43We weren't in the Craig Jackson suite, but we were next to it,
- 36:46so it was pretty good. You were in Craig Adjacent,
- 36:49which is just as nice. Yeah, right.
- 36:52What an eye opener of an auction.
- 36:54So I'm used to RM and Bonhams and maybe Goodings.
- 37:00This isn't that. This is a massive, well, a
- 37:05massive auditorium and they are playing a volume game.
- 37:12So what I mean by that is the literally the cars are all on
- 37:14one side of the stage, go across the stage, then go up for
- 37:19auction and they get they're in two positions during the
- 37:21auction. The first position is the middle
- 37:23of the stage and then the second position is slightly on the down
- 37:26ramp. But I would say that each car
- 37:29was selling or not selling within like a 2 minute window.
- 37:33So it's like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, car, car, car, car.
- 37:39And it was a lot of American. I was there on the Friday and
- 37:43the further on the last days, the Saturday, and the nicest
- 37:46cars get sold on the Saturday. So I didn't see the nicest car,
- 37:49but it was also a really interesting mix of people.
- 37:53I think the car park was mainly full of trucks, so not
- 37:57necessarily your people, Lindsay, but it was it was full
- 38:01of trucks, the side halls that everything from watches to, you
- 38:06know, book yourself on a bison hunt.
- 38:08So that might give you an idea of some of the some of the
- 38:12guests do you feel? Like that, like is that is there
- 38:17a lot of overlap in that Venn diagram is like if you're going
- 38:19to Barrett Jackson, you might buy a car or also go on a bison
- 38:23hunt. Sheep, bison.
- 38:24I think also cigars is another big thing.
- 38:27So there were lots of areas outside where people smoking
- 38:29cigars. OK, OK.
- 38:32Interesting. Yeah.
- 38:33So it was a shock. It was a shock.
- 38:35That's quite an electric mix. Yeah, it's like the State Fair
- 38:39or something. Buy a hot tub.
- 38:41Yeah. Yeah, it's, you know.
- 38:43Lots of jeans and T-shirts. That was the kind of theme of
- 38:46the day. It's a good spectator sport
- 38:49because you can walk around and see what cars are about to come
- 38:52through the auction and they all get driven through.
- 38:56There were some beautiful Broncos.
- 38:58So yeah, there was quite a few beautiful Broncos that kind of
- 39:01went through. Were they like first Gen.
- 39:05Like what era? Like the classic, but the Resto
- 39:08classics, yeah, you know, all done very nicely color wise and
- 39:12yeah. They're just so adorable there.
- 39:15Yeah, there was one. I watched it briefly, like I
- 39:19think midweek, and there was a 90s Cadillac sedan, one of the
- 39:24big ones, one of the Brougham, if anybody remembers those.
- 39:27And it was such a that. Meant, but I used to see the
- 39:29script, you know. Yeah.
- 39:31And this one was just, you know, burgundy inside and out and had
- 39:35the, you know, vinyl roof, I think, or the cloth roof.
- 39:39I don't know if you remember those.
- 39:40And it it was, there was a lot of 90s cars in that segment.
- 39:44But that was such a throwback to, you know, I remember seeing
- 39:47those in high school, man. I haven't seen Broome on the
- 39:51side of a car in a long time. It was I kind of wish I'd gone
- 39:56on the Saturday now because my friends that did go bumped into
- 40:00the actor that played Officer Frank Poncharello from these
- 40:05series. I saw that.
- 40:07I saw that. You know, yeah, that was his
- 40:10hero status in my head. And.
- 40:12Yeah, yeah, Guy. And yeah, I.
- 40:15Was always Camp John Baker to be to be honest.
- 40:19But you know, I like punch too, and would.
- 40:21You accept punch in a pinch. I would accept punch in a pinch.
- 40:24There we go. So he was there, I think that.
- 40:27Pinch from punch. Wow, pinch punch first the
- 40:30month, right? Either or.
- 40:35I promised that none of us have been drinking tonight.
- 40:37I. I know Troy.
- 40:39You know I. Mean I just this for?
- 40:41Charisma. Yeah, that's well, that was
- 40:45Friday. What was he, What was Punch
- 40:47buying? Was he buying a 78 Kawasaki?
- 40:51There were no motorbikes. So OK, he was at the wrong.
- 40:53Auction for that, right? Ponch was there for the bison
- 40:56hunts, obviously. Clearly.
- 40:59Ponch Ponch was there for the ladies, let's be honest.
- 41:02Yeah, so that was Friday. Friday night was I wasn't gonna,
- 41:10I was doing a dinner and I wasn't gonna go.
- 41:11But then I found out that some friends were at the events
- 41:14party. So went to the events party at
- 41:18the warehouse. Nice function Rebecca a lady
- 41:22called Rebecca owns the warehouse and she's done an
- 41:24amazing job with it. It's it's a really cool location
- 41:27for the week. It was an art studio and car
- 41:30storage, so there were four artists there for the week and
- 41:34they'd all created art based on a 250 GTO.
- 41:38So that was pretty cool. That's.
- 41:40Cool. That beats a base of flowers.
- 41:42I mean, that's that's a nice subject to much.
- 41:46Better than the Van Gogh, right? Yeah.
- 41:49Was Lynn Heiner one of the artists that was there, You
- 41:51know? Yeah, I'm with Lynn during the
- 41:53week, actually. Lovely lady.
- 41:54She's lovely. She's based in Southern
- 41:56California and so we cross paths, you know, as often as
- 41:59we're in the same place. But yeah, just I real after you
- 42:03said that, I realized I had seen a picture of her, but I didn't
- 42:05know about the venue. So is it is the warehouse like
- 42:09an event space? Is it typically car themed?
- 42:13Yeah, I think it's definitely a car themed location.
- 42:16It's got a couple of offices. It's got, I think there's car
- 42:20storage there as well. So it's got everything I think.
- 42:25But it was cool because I was also catching up with some of
- 42:27our rival podcasters. So if you guys know Filippo and
- 42:33Nick from this car pod, is that right?
- 42:37Is that there? I I, I don't think they're big
- 42:40yet, but they'll get, they'll get there one day, you know,
- 42:41I'll find. They'll see you later, yeah.
- 42:44Yeah, I managed to catch up with those and they're super nice
- 42:46people. It's awesome.
- 42:47So it's good to talk to them and very cool.
- 42:50Dan Pilling in Podcast Wars, Yes.
- 42:52You should. Have had like a podcast off or
- 42:56something. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:59Freestyle. Well, it's always fun to talk
- 43:01shop. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:03And they were in good form. Nick had bought, he's got an SLR
- 43:06Mercedes convertible. That's right.
- 43:08That's really. So he'd driven that from I guess
- 43:10San Diego way on. OK.
- 43:13That's a good drive, not too long, but you definitely get
- 43:16some time in the car. Yeah, he was saying that he
- 43:18wouldn't have risked it in his old car, which was a
- 43:20Lamborghini, but he felt more comfortable in the Mercedes.
- 43:24When given the choice, you know right?
- 43:26Right. What is 1 to do?
- 43:27Yeah. Take the German car every time,
- 43:30yeah. Yeah.
- 43:31So, so that was Arizona Car Week.
- 43:33I think it's one of these events where you go every other year or
- 43:36you go every three years. I think if you do it every year,
- 43:39it's probably you know the same people, you know the same events
- 43:43and probably not too much of a differentiation.
- 43:45Did you get to drive at Radford on the track?
- 43:49Not this time. I have done before and to be
- 43:51honest I could have done but work was unfortunately in the
- 43:55way but I have done in the past of the track.
- 43:59Yeah, no, I knew. I remember when you did the
- 44:01school because you we got to hear about it.
- 44:03Yeah, that was the police officer turned up and he had a
- 44:07Charger, a new Charger, and he was allowed to use the track.
- 44:11And I'll tell you what, no one was getting away from a speeding
- 44:14ticket in the Chandler area. If he was behind you, he drove
- 44:17like he stole it and it was a police car.
- 44:20That's amazing. Well, I mean, anytime, you know,
- 44:23I didn't get to get out at Pacific on Saturday either, but
- 44:27you know, even racetrack adjacent is a good time.
- 44:30Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, and so you mentioned you
- 44:33were going to get a Hellcat, and I'm glad to hear that you didn't
- 44:37because there was a jewelry store robbery in Orange County
- 44:41and they used Hellcats. But so now we know it wasn't you
- 44:44for sure. Yes, I have an alibi and a
- 44:47gravity right. Yeah, but tell me I saw that
- 44:51story and they escaped in two Hellcats.
- 44:56Either one was being pursued, yet they both managed to crash
- 44:59and then they were all arrested. So.
- 45:01Right. Talk about literally crashing.
- 45:03Out as possible. I mean.
- 45:07Just a shout out to Jorge, our buddy Jorge down in Phoenix,
- 45:10because he's really owning that whole Arizona Car Week thing.
- 45:13He was pumping up podcast episodes left and right.
- 45:16I don't know how he does it. I don't know where he gets the
- 45:18energy. He does these things on the fly.
- 45:21He's he's our generation's automotive.
- 45:24Charles Kuralt. I think he's he's on the road
- 45:27and he's recording and he's capturing every story and he's
- 45:30going that. So it's good to see.
- 45:33Yeah, good. It was good to see.
- 45:34Being there, I missed being there.
- 45:36His friend was so nice, So nice. Oh, that's awesome.
- 45:39Yeah. It was Youtubers, it was
- 45:41artists, it was owner, the detailing shops, but they were
- 45:45all really nice car people, so he was in good company.
- 45:49That's what it's. Always.
- 45:50It's always fun to, you know, because a lot of us are not in
- 45:53the same place very often. Like we're lucky that social
- 45:56media has connected us. So it's cool to meet people in
- 45:59person when you are in the same place.
- 46:02Yeah, no, totally, totally. Ryan, you had an idea around
- 46:07definitions of mid cars. Well, everyone seems to like
- 46:10these little collections of cars We do, right?
- 46:13You know, the the worst cars you've ever driven, you know,
- 46:16like the E39-M5. And so Lindsay, you've got a 13
- 46:20year old, I've got a 13 year old and we'll pick up on the lingo a
- 46:24little bit. Can't say 6-7 anymore.
- 46:26I'm not quite sure what's next. But for a while they were using
- 46:28this term called mid. And you know, so it's kind of
- 46:31like, I don't know, Dan, you asked me what it meant and tell
- 46:35me if I'm wrong, Lindsay. But it's kind of like the, I
- 46:37don't know, the dad bought or the mom jeans of cars, right?
- 46:40Like the most mid car, right? So what is the most mid car?
- 46:43Just like not a bad car, but just like kind of the most
- 46:46average of cars. Like if you asked a kid to drive
- 46:49to draw a car, you know, what would that car be?
- 46:52You know, and, and so I mean I. Would say they're unremarkable.
- 46:58Unremarkable. I don't do the job.
- 47:01Totally functional, nothing wrong with them, but it doesn't
- 47:04get your blood going when you. So could we say that other
- 47:07podcasts are mid? Absolutely all mid.
- 47:11All other podcasts the car. All other ones.
- 47:14Yeah, every single one is mid. Yeah, it's mid.
- 47:17What I'm hearing is that there wasn't a podcast war in Arizona,
- 47:20but Dan would like. To start one mid, mid, yeah,
- 47:25just to clear it so. That Joeling glove has been
- 47:29launched under the crack, right? Well, and I think that really
- 47:33we're right on schedule because like you said, Ryan, the kids
- 47:35aren't using it anymore. So it's just perfect timing for
- 47:38us to pick it up. Right for us olds right to, you
- 47:41know, to come in, you know, so yeah, I think it's just, you
- 47:46know, like, again, not a bad car, just kind of average, you
- 47:49know, probably nothing too obscure, right.
- 47:52Like what what else would be a would be a mid car?
- 47:55Yeah, they just just so average, right.
- 47:57So I don't know who. So I asked you each to pick 3
- 48:02and I Lindsay is, is another parent of a 13 year old.
- 48:05I think you probably have a pretty good sense of the word.
- 48:06So what'd you go with? So at first I kept thinking
- 48:11because there was at one point I had a Cayman and it was in the
- 48:14shop for a week, but they kept telling me it was ready.
- 48:18And the way the setup, you'd get a rental car and then you had to
- 48:22walk over to the shop to pick up the car.
- 48:24And so you'd throw the rental car key through the slot and
- 48:27then I'd go to pick up the car and they'd say, just kidding,
- 48:29it's not ready. So you'd get a different rental
- 48:32car. And that happened I think twice.
- 48:35And finally I was like, I'm going to hang on to these keys
- 48:37until I find out that the car's actually ready.
- 48:40And so that was a week of multiple mid cars, but it was
- 48:44long enough ago that I couldn't remember them.
- 48:46But I definitely, you know, I had sort of a sense memory when
- 48:49you said Ryan, like what is a mid car that's available?
- 48:53I went whatever those three were absolutely fit the bill.
- 48:56But also kind of like we've talked before about sort of
- 48:59unremarkable rental cars, a lot of them fit the bill.
- 49:04But what I landed on and I decided to go, I decided to
- 49:08include a gas car, a hybrid and an electric.
- 49:11There are used and new options and I would say, you know, just
- 49:16generally unremarkable, but nothing wrong with them and they
- 49:19get the job done. So the three that I chose are
- 49:23are the Tesla Model 3, because they are.
- 49:26We're just overrun with them here.
- 49:28And so it's like I'm kind of glazed over at this point on
- 49:31them. Yeah.
- 49:32Yeah. Same thing with a Toyota Prius.
- 49:35Yeah. You know, they're used in.
- 49:37I know a lot of people. Think though right?
- 49:39I had the Toyota Prius, old shape.
- 49:41Yeah, the old. Shape cool.
- 49:44No, the old shape. Isn't drive cool though?
- 49:46That's the only problem. Well, yeah, and the Ford Fusion.
- 49:54Oh, that's a good one, that is. Just a.
- 49:56Car, yeah. Right.
- 49:58They're fine. I, I think that's what it is.
- 50:00Like, they're fine, but they're not super exciting, engaging,
- 50:06you know, grab your attention and just like, yeah, I think.
- 50:10Those would all be good first cars for our soon to be 16 year
- 50:14old 13 year olds too, right? Because these are not cars and
- 50:18enthusiasts would ever go for, right?
- 50:19And I'm going to tell you right now, there's one car we all
- 50:22have. I that was, it was funny when I
- 50:26was choosing, I was like, I have a feeling we're all gonna,
- 50:29there's gonna be one that we have all chosen so.
- 50:33Yeah, shall we? Keep going and find out.
- 50:35Those are those are good because you've got a Prius too.
- 50:37It sounds like the end. Yeah, but yeah, the old Prius,
- 50:41right the. Old Prius.
- 50:43Yeah. Did you have?
- 50:44One, you remember the Yeah, I've got I, I said the, I said the
- 50:48Toyota Prius. Maybe this is an obvious one,
- 50:51but any year, any generation, any trim level, to me, it's the
- 50:54car for people who don't care about cars, There's no joy in
- 50:57the drive. They don't excel at anything
- 50:58other than maybe fuel efficiency, though the latest
- 51:02iteration does look pretty good. There is a reason the Prius is
- 51:05the car that more often than not shows up when you order an Uber.
- 51:09Yes, that's that's the Prius, right?
- 51:12And well, and, and we have a ton of taxi.
- 51:19Prius is up here too. Yeah, OK.
- 51:22Yeah, I guess. So this was going to be a nine
- 51:24car list and now it's A7 car list because we all let's see.
- 51:31Where Ryan's going next? Yeah, that's true.
- 51:32You want me to go OK, right. The Prius was just so obvious.
- 51:36And and and then I went with the Honda CRV, the official vehicle
- 51:41of mothers in law everywhere. Tell me I'm wrong.
- 51:47We can't. And you know, I mean, the, the,
- 51:50the last generation had pretty good cars, right?
- 51:53But they're just, you know, they're just, they're just cars.
- 51:56Well, they're functional. They're functional.
- 51:59They're functional. There's a reason mothers in law
- 52:02buy them and drive them and. That's hilarious.
- 52:06Back up into me in parking lots. But the third one is neither.
- 52:10Here nor there. A car much like much like, you
- 52:15know, we talked about the worst cars you've ever driven and the
- 52:18Chevy Malibu came up for me. I was.
- 52:20Shocked, I almost put that one on my list.
- 52:23OK, well, I didn't, I didn't pick it.
- 52:25I didn't pick it. But this one has a a lot of
- 52:27parallels, almost as long in the tooth.
- 52:29And it's a car that had to make sure it was still being sold.
- 52:32But is you talk about average middle America, you know, Iowa,
- 52:37you know, sitting in the left lane, it's the Chrysler Pacifica
- 52:41slash Voyager. I didn't know that they made a
- 52:44Voyager. They brought the name back.
- 52:45I think for the lesser, you know, the, I don't know, the
- 52:49less upscale 1. Lower trim level or whatever.
- 52:52So is it a? Is it still a Plymouth Voyager
- 52:56or is it a Chrysler? No, it's a Chrysler.
- 52:58And and of course you know, if you go to chrysler.com, there is
- 53:01but one vehicle and that is the minivan.
- 53:03But now there are but two vehicles because they call it
- 53:05two different things, right, Depending on, you know, whether
- 53:08you're in the position to to lay out 40,000 or 45,000, right.
- 53:12The town and country incidentally is gone.
- 53:14That's come up a couple times in conversation.
- 53:16The town and country is no more, but this is a car.
- 53:19It'll be back. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:21I mean, you know I always slap a little wood grain vinyl on a on
- 53:25a car and call it a day, right? It's the pause of an era.
- 53:31Which by the way, Speaking of our buddy Jorge, he heard our
- 53:33last our last episode, and he said his mom had a town and
- 53:37country. And as Jorge said, that thing
- 53:40slapped. And I told him, Jorge, that was
- 53:42just the vinyl flapping in the wind.
- 53:46Next week we need to come up with a list of cars that slap.
- 53:50Slap. We're going to do that.
- 53:55My daughter. Your daughter.
- 53:57Cringing. Cringing right now.
- 53:59Yeah, I was going to. Say we're going to countermand
- 54:01all of the slang is no longer in use, really show our age and use
- 54:06it incorrectly, and just make our kids cringe as much as
- 54:09possible. That that's it I have to add
- 54:11when I you know, they're big in Iowa, these things, right?
- 54:14And I, I did a whole thing for auto blog about how, you know,
- 54:17usually when there's a car in the passing lane in Iowa, it's
- 54:20one of these things. Well, the last time I was there,
- 54:22I someone being driven by the Iowa Department of Corrections
- 54:25as a prisoner transport vehicle. And, you know, and then going
- 54:30right past, it was like a family in their, you know, their
- 54:32minivan. And it's just, it's like, yeah,
- 54:34it's kind of what it is, right? Transport prisoners or your
- 54:37kids, you know, Costco, the county jail, you know, you're
- 54:40good. It just kind of does.
- 54:42The one half a dozen of the. Other one, but I looked it up
- 54:45and I was shocked to find out that it actually has AV6 with
- 54:48286 horsepower. That is the one engine option
- 54:52which isn't terrible in a world of 2.0 turbos.
- 54:55This thing actually has a an honest to God Chrysler V6 that
- 54:58that pumps up pretty decent power.
- 55:00So so now you know but. I feel like there's a lot of
- 55:03advertising potential there. I mean, look at the versatility,
- 55:06family cars, prisoners, you name it, you know the Pacifica slash
- 55:13Voyager has got it covered. You got bodies to shuttle
- 55:16around. This is this is this is your.
- 55:19But you know, I had one on. Go ahead.
- 55:20Sorry, it's. I was just going to say, talk
- 55:22about an engine that's never going to be used for what it was
- 55:25designed for. Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 55:28It's like putting indicators on a BMW Zing.
- 55:34Yeah, yeah, I did have an honorable mention.
- 55:38Yeah, here we go. What's your honorable mention?
- 55:40The Tesla Model 3, but specifically the single motor
- 55:43car. You know, I, I used to work for
- 55:46a big accounting firm and that was the car that he used to see
- 55:50a lot of in the parking lot. Terrible car for terrible
- 55:54people, and I'll leave it at that.
- 55:57And it's that's the single engine one the.
- 55:59Single engine one that's. You've heard it here. 1st.
- 56:03Also, can I just say I don't think I ever expected to hear
- 56:07the phrase big in Iowa? Yeah.
- 56:10That car show big in Iowa. Not anymore.
- 56:15Yeah. Is Iowa famous for potatoes or
- 56:18did I make that up? Corn.
- 56:19Famous for corn. Yeah, and sitting in the passing
- 56:22lane. Yeah, who makes the potato
- 56:24sandwich? Idaho, Idaho.
- 56:25Idaho, Idaho. The other I state.
- 56:29Yeah, in the morning, yeah, but it's probably California
- 56:33anymore, to be honest, right? So it's.
- 56:36Yeah. So I had the I had the Prius.
- 56:43Do we think that next year Haggerty will be bringing out
- 56:46the bull market, the mid market and the bullshit?
- 56:49I think they're going to steal a lot of ideas.
- 56:51Right now. These.
- 56:52Kids might be on to something. The Aztec pretty mid, right?
- 56:57Oh. Absolutely spectacular currently
- 56:59on the market, but you know. It's retro cool now though,
- 57:02isn't it? Yeah, I think it's way better
- 57:04than mid. Also, I have to say that I'm
- 57:06contractually obligated to say that It's spectacular.
- 57:09OK, and it was part of the the vows.
- 57:11Yeah, to you take this man and agree.
- 57:17Do you? Promise to see on the camera.
- 57:18It's just like a hostage video. It's got a cinder block wall
- 57:22behind you and you don't say the.
- 57:25Right thing. I love the Pontiac, as to say.
- 57:30It correctly. Wow, are you blinking in Morse
- 57:31code currently? Marriage really changes a
- 57:34person, doesn't it? I'm also blinking how much I
- 57:38love the ads just to make sure my bases are covered.
- 57:44Probably. And then I had some maladry.
- 57:46Next, the Maladry. OK.
- 57:48OK. That's yeah, that's there.
- 57:50Yeah, that exists in the mid. What is the Chrysler?
- 57:53That was like a. It was round at the back and
- 57:57they did a convertible but not a convertible.
- 57:59Oh, the Sebring. The Sebring.
- 58:02Yeah, the Chrysler. The Sebring.
- 58:04That was another mid. Yeah, there was the were the
- 58:07Avenger. No, I mean, all these cars could
- 58:10qualify. We were like, we're, we're.
- 58:13You know, we have a pretty long list.
- 58:15Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, but it's interesting that
- 58:17a lot of them are either Japanese or American.
- 58:22Yeah. Isn't it?
- 58:24I know that like, you know, look at the America for example, then
- 58:26a lot of their businesses scale. So they're creating colours for
- 58:30scale, right, selling lots of them.
- 58:32But it's interesting that it was those two.
- 58:36Yeah, they kind of landed majority in those two regions.
- 58:40Yeah, yeah, you want one more Japanese 1?
- 58:42The Rav 4 could have been on there too.
- 58:44I almost had the Rav 4. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was on
- 58:47the list, but an old one, not a new one.
- 58:49OK, OK. Yeah, though they made a A6
- 58:53cylinder with I think 270 horsepower for just a year or
- 58:56two several generations back. That was crazy quick, like 0 to
- 59:0016, like 5.4 seconds. Look it up.
- 59:02It's a real thing. So now you know.
- 59:04Now you know. Bull market next year, Yeah, I
- 59:07was talking to someone who said that they leased A Rav 4 and for
- 59:10a while they did an all electric version, if you guys knew that.
- 59:14I think I did know that. Like early on, right?
- 59:17It was like one of the first. Super early on.
- 59:19EVs yeah, it was like. 300 bucks a month to to lease it.
- 59:25But it had like AI think a range of 90 miles or something 100
- 59:28and. 50 miles. 150, OK, Yeah, the same owners that now have
- 59:32the hydrogen cars out in California.
- 59:34That's right. They moved on to the Mirai.
- 59:39Against the Mirai owners got together and were suing because
- 59:43there was nowhere to actually fuel the cars.
- 59:47Or the infrastructure did not. It was not built out as they
- 59:50were told that it would be. Right.
- 59:51So these were hard to the. Mirai.
- 59:53Right. Yeah.
- 59:55There was 1 station in Orange County that I knew about because
- 59:59I knew I had family friends that bought 1.
- 1:00:01And I remember saying like, that's great, but where do you
- 1:00:04get hydrogen? And there was actually a station
- 1:00:06not that far away, but I think it was just the one.
- 1:00:09You could do a meet and greet for the Mariah Owners Club there
- 1:00:12couldn't. You well.
- 1:00:14There anyway, why don't? We just.
- 1:00:16The station. Somebody bring Donuts?
- 1:00:19Yeah, you need. To get my bad hydrogen joke.
- 1:00:21Come on. What was that?
- 1:00:23Wait, say it again. I said, oh, the humanity.
- 1:00:30Nicely done. Hurry.
- 1:00:32Maybe that's nice when you have to repeat yourself, but no.
- 1:00:35No, we were just talking over you.
- 1:00:37Prius Taxi for Ryan. I think it's getting one
- 1:00:42ordered. You know what I saw?
- 1:00:43I posted this to Instagram. I saw a street parked Checker
- 1:00:46cab in Denver the other day. Really so cool to see.
- 1:00:50Yeah, I haven't seen one of those in years, but I'm just old
- 1:00:53enough to remember riding in, you know, one or two as a kid,
- 1:00:56right? And they're huge.
- 1:00:57They're long. They've got the jump seats.
- 1:00:59It was just the last thing I expected to see in in Denver,
- 1:01:03parked in the snow on the side of the street.
- 1:01:05But apparently there's an outfit, it's called
- 1:01:07denverchecker.com, and you can rent it for events and things.
- 1:01:10So I'm thinking the next time you 2 are in town.
- 1:01:13Hikes peak. Let's take it.
- 1:01:16Wait, but can you nap in the back of it though?
- 1:01:19You could do whatever you could. Make.
- 1:01:21Breakfast back there are you it's huge.
- 1:01:23We do our podcast back there. I mean, wow, you know, it's.
- 1:01:27Podcasting from the Checker Cab. From the Checker Cab, Yeah.
- 1:01:30It's when I come in, yeah. That's really funny.
- 1:01:34That's cool, so have we completely slowed to the mid
- 1:01:37list now? Yeah, how many?
- 1:01:39So how many cars did we end up with?
- 1:01:41So I had Tesla Model 3 single motor, Yeah, the Toyota Prius,
- 1:01:48the old body and the Ford Fusion.
- 1:01:51And then Ryan, you had. I had the the Chrysler Pacifica
- 1:01:58and the the CRV, but that Ford Fusion, that might be the most
- 1:02:03mid of the mid, even though, right, Only you had it.
- 1:02:06And then Dan, you had the Prius, you had the Malibu, Malibu and
- 1:02:12the the Chrysler Sebring. Yeah, OK.
- 1:02:16Yeah, that's a that's pretty. That's pretty.
- 1:02:18I just saw one of those, actually.
- 1:02:19I hadn't seen one in years and I saw one on the road.
- 1:02:22It's crazy. Again, talk about a highly
- 1:02:26inappropriately named vehicle. Right?
- 1:02:28The the, the the sheep ring. But that's a it's a thing they
- 1:02:31do. It's all in the contrast, right?
- 1:02:33So, OK, so we had 7 total. That's a pretty fun list.
- 1:02:37Yeah, not as fun as the worst cars you've ever driven, but
- 1:02:40it's amazing how how we all kind of, you know, tuned in on the
- 1:02:44same, yeah, same kind of thing, you know?
- 1:02:47Yeah, we all understood the assignment for sure.
- 1:02:49Yeah, yeah. That's really funny.
- 1:02:53Next week, your favorite 67 car? Yes.
- 1:03:00Yeah, you, you joke. And I've just interviewed
- 1:03:01someone for a different podcast and they had a 67 Al Camino, I
- 1:03:05kid you not. OK.
- 1:03:08Is it like in original condition?
- 1:03:11Is it restored like? What's the story?
- 1:03:13They have owned it for 59 years. Oh wow, yeah.
- 1:03:19Come in soon. But it was the way that this
- 1:03:23gentleman, I guess is an elderly gentleman and he kept saying 67
- 1:03:26and he knew what it was all about, so.
- 1:03:29Shark jumped all right. Yeah, that's how you know the
- 1:03:32kids are definitely not saying it anymore.
- 1:03:37That is really funny. I love it.
- 1:03:40What else you guys got? Well, Consumer Reports brought
- 1:03:44out their car reliability lists. Right.
- 1:03:47That's right. And I wondered if you guys
- 1:03:50actually took Consumer Reports with a pinch of salt or whether
- 1:03:54you would actually consult them, like would they have any
- 1:03:56influence if you were to buy a car, would you look at that
- 1:03:59list? I would, I mean, I have in the
- 1:04:01past and I think I think it's one of many factors when you're
- 1:04:06buying a car, especially because a lot of times you know, you
- 1:04:09need a certain type of car, so you can't just go to the list
- 1:04:13and go like, what's the most reliable?
- 1:04:15And I'll just get that. But I've definitely used it to
- 1:04:19help decide like when you know you need like a pickup truck or
- 1:04:23whatever, then how are they rating the pickup trucks to
- 1:04:26decide in that like for that ask basically.
- 1:04:30I would challenge you guys in terms of knowing what the list
- 1:04:33is now and knowing what's in the last place before you saw that
- 1:04:37list. Would you have gone got one and
- 1:04:39would you still get one? Yes.
- 1:04:44So it's the last place. Let's find this last place,
- 1:04:47Rivian. Yeah, which is?
- 1:04:48It's a bit of a shocker. Yeah, yeah, I, I've never owned
- 1:04:52a Rivian, but everyone I know that has owned one or owns one
- 1:04:56seems to love it. So you know, a bit of a, you
- 1:04:58know, a bit of a, a surprise, you know, it's a young company,
- 1:05:02but. Yeah.
- 1:05:03Have you guys, have either of you ever known anybody who has
- 1:05:06had issues because they are more prevalent now?
- 1:05:09Everybody that I know, same thing, loves them.
- 1:05:12I was really impressed with the quality, you know, the fit and
- 1:05:16finish. So I was very surprised to see
- 1:05:18it at the bottom of the list do. You wonder if it's mostly
- 1:05:21software stuff, like the software stuff that gets sorted
- 1:05:26out. But it isn't like, you know,
- 1:05:27we're not talking about like, you know, like drivetrain.
- 1:05:30Stuff necessarily, yeah. Yeah, Yeah, I know they do
- 1:05:33updates without telling the owners no.
- 1:05:37So because I think their model is that they send engineers out
- 1:05:41to your cars, right? OK, Yeah.
- 1:05:44And they can do changes to the car and I think as part of the
- 1:05:46contract, they don't have to tell you what they've done.
- 1:05:49So you. Know well do they do they do
- 1:05:53open air updates too so you. Just make.
- 1:05:55Up and they're software updated, yeah.
- 1:05:59But it is weird, like no one I know has ever complained about
- 1:06:02reviewing reliability and yet this list which they pulled over
- 1:06:06300,000 people. So I guess.
- 1:06:08It has some level of statistical significance.
- 1:06:13Sure, sure, sure. Say that again, I think there
- 1:06:18are still a lot of people that look to consume reports.
- 1:06:20I, I think to this day they don't take anything from the
- 1:06:23companies, right? They review, I think they buy
- 1:06:25all the vehicles and all that. I think there's something to
- 1:06:27that. Plus I like circles.
- 1:06:28They've got that system, you know, you know, that kind of
- 1:06:32tells me what I need to know. But you know, I, I have, I will
- 1:06:36say I have referred to Consumer Reports and now we've got to
- 1:06:39reach out to like Molly's cousin to get his login because we
- 1:06:42don't like pay for the subscription.
- 1:06:44And you have to be a member to look at this stuff, right?
- 1:06:47It's a. Family share plan is what?
- 1:06:48You're saying that's right, you know, at least till they find us
- 1:06:51out like Netflix. But right, you know, I would go
- 1:06:54there and 1/2 for like washing machines and that kind of thing.
- 1:06:58But maybe this well, I was going to say this stuff that doesn't
- 1:07:00have an enthusiast bent, but go look up washing machine
- 1:07:05collectors on YouTube because they're out there too.
- 1:07:07You know, people have basements full of them and they have
- 1:07:09parties and they watch them go around.
- 1:07:10So there's an enthusiast for washing machines too.
- 1:07:13But I, you know, to me, a car is such an emotional purchase,
- 1:07:17right? So I think to your point, it
- 1:07:19would be one, one element of you know, but I, I want to hear, I
- 1:07:22want to hear from someone who's driven the car and you know all
- 1:07:25that as as well. So.
- 1:07:28If you're listening and you've had a bad Rivian experience, let
- 1:07:30us know, yeah. Yeah, I'm really curious because
- 1:07:33like you said, Dan, I mean, they do, they do aggregate a lot of
- 1:07:37information. But I wondered, you know,
- 1:07:39briefly, like, is it bad data just because you would think
- 1:07:43with the number of people that have them at this point, we
- 1:07:45would have started to hear stories about that, so.
- 1:07:47Yeah, where's Tesla on this list?
- 1:07:50Tesla is the most direct competitor.
- 1:07:52In the top 10, which is good for them, right?
- 1:07:55You hear more negative press around.
- 1:07:58Them. Yeah, I was going.
- 1:07:59To say that's. Shocking quality control.
- 1:08:02And, and I think we have to give the disclaimer here that there
- 1:08:05were some models, some brands that were excluded, right?
- 1:08:08Just out of out of numbers, right?
- 1:08:10So Alfa Romeo was not on this list, nor was Dodge, Fiat,
- 1:08:14Infinity, Jaguar Land Rover, Lucid, Maserati, Mini,
- 1:08:18Mitsubishi, Polestar and Porsche.
- 1:08:20So I'm guessing had those been included, maybe things would
- 1:08:23have shifted around a little bit.
- 1:08:25Also interestingly, both of the cars I own didn't make the list
- 1:08:29at all, so. That means you're never going to
- 1:08:32have an issue. That's right.
- 1:08:34You're perfect. That's what that means.
- 1:08:35They're just going to work forever.
- 1:08:37You know, it's interesting Dodge isn't on there, but Ram is,
- 1:08:40which is one of the, you know, family brands, I guess.
- 1:08:44Yeah, yeah, That's just great, Gar, isn't it?
- 1:08:46Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:08:46Didn't that sell enough Dodges? That's kind of crazy.
- 1:08:49That's in some some company. It's a much more sort of obscure
- 1:08:52company that's. Right.
- 1:08:55It's interesting that Ram made it, yeah, but Dodge didn't.
- 1:08:59Yeah, I. Guess it's fine.
- 1:09:01Four are Japanese tracks. It is German.
- 1:09:07Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:10And is in there at #10. Yeah, it's a little bit of a
- 1:09:13surprise. I don't see Hyundai.
- 1:09:18There are 12. It's kind of right in the middle
- 1:09:21tell. Me this was This survey was done
- 1:09:23before our friends in Porsche Colorado Springs bought their
- 1:09:26car. That's, that's true.
- 1:09:28That's true. Also Mercedes-Benz #19 one above
- 1:09:31Lincoln, right? So, you know, there was a time
- 1:09:34that Mercedes-Benz would have been #1 done and done, you know,
- 1:09:37and that's obviously no longer the case.
- 1:09:40Interesting. Again, what are the parameters?
- 1:09:42What are we? What are we measuring here?
- 1:09:44You know, But interesting nonetheless.
- 1:09:47It's always interesting to look. At I used to like.
- 1:09:50Yeah, that's a buyer, Rivian. I know.
- 1:09:53Absolutely. When that new, was it the R3?
- 1:09:55The little launcher looking with.
- 1:09:57That yeah, it's just like 2 years out isn't it?
- 1:09:59I think. Yeah, that's a.
- 1:10:00There's one in between that's coming out this year.
- 1:10:04Yeah, it's just smaller SUV, the 2.
- 1:10:06Yeah. Right.
- 1:10:07Yeah, yeah. It's an interesting year, isn't
- 1:10:10it, for electric SUV, because you've got that, you've got a
- 1:10:12scout. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:14Oh God I love the Scouts. Those are just.
- 1:10:17Those are cool too. We got to see those up close at
- 1:10:20the auto show and it was so much bigger than I expected.
- 1:10:23But yeah, yeah, really cool. The fact that they've got,
- 1:10:27they've got their little engines on them, haven't they?
- 1:10:29So you can, if you've got an emergency, you can still use
- 1:10:33gas. That's right.
- 1:10:35Which I love the idea of. You could use that.
- 1:10:39So I think you get like 500 miles range acclaimed with and.
- 1:10:43Yeah. So it sounds like a really, it
- 1:10:46sounds like engineers have gone to that problem and solved it,
- 1:10:48right? What's the direct competitors?
- 1:10:51I guess it's Rivian. I think Rivian is, yeah.
- 1:10:53I mean, with all the, you know, the, the things that slide out
- 1:10:55and this and that and, and, and, well, maybe that's it.
- 1:11:00Have you seen the Rivian trucks? So, you know, the Rivian trucks
- 1:11:04have got a cargo hold that goes through the.
- 1:11:07Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:08So there's an option that you can get which is a kitchen.
- 1:11:11That's right. Yeah, that slides out of there.
- 1:11:13How cool is that? But this is what I'm thinking.
- 1:11:15Like what if one of the utensils didn't work right?
- 1:11:17Does this land you on Consumer Reports?
- 1:11:19On the on the list of you know? Right.
- 1:11:21Like what's the, what's the threshold to be considered
- 1:11:25reliable or unreliable? I mean, there's all this bad,
- 1:11:28Dana. Or right, that can go wrong on a
- 1:11:30car that's complicated, right? So.
- 1:11:33Right. Yeah, people used to say, oh, I
- 1:11:34don't want to buy the electric, you know, Windows or that's one
- 1:11:37more thing to break. Or yeah, automatic seats.
- 1:11:41Well, it's another moment. That could breakdown, Yeah, OK.
- 1:11:44I'm gonna enjoy moving myself back and forth easily and not
- 1:11:47worry about it. Yeah, no, that's funny.
- 1:11:53Consumer Reports for the win. So yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:56What have we got coming up? Was there much coming up?
- 1:12:00The rain has returned here, so the driving days may be few and
- 1:12:04far between again going forward for a bit.
- 1:12:06Yeah, so. We'll see.
- 1:12:07Yeah. What about you guys?
- 1:12:09I'm supposed to do ice racing up in Georgetown, so up in the
- 1:12:16mountains a little bit from Denver.
- 1:12:18I guess it depends on whether the ice will be icy.
- 1:12:21It depends on what the weather does.
- 1:12:24But I'm looking forward to that. Shout out to friend of the show
- 1:12:28Daryl Vaughn. If you listened back, as far as
- 1:12:32the steering committee, he was a sponsor for a long time.
- 1:12:34He was a realtor, right, That we would always talk about.
- 1:12:37And he picked up a second Gen. MR2.
- 1:12:41It was the car he wanted as a kid.
- 1:12:43And he's going to throw some snow tires in that thing and
- 1:12:46we're going to go drive that around a frozen lake.
- 1:12:47So that should be fun. That's amazing.
- 1:12:50I can't wait for. That legalized racing.
- 1:12:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is like a structured event,
- 1:12:55and I think it's actually a reservoir.
- 1:12:57So if you do fall through, I think it's only about 20 feet
- 1:12:59deep. So they can probably recover
- 1:13:01you, you know? It's ice, cold water, iron.
- 1:13:03It's 20 feet deep. It doesn't matter if it's 10
- 1:13:05feet deep. And I like the they can probably
- 1:13:10recover. They could probably, yeah.
- 1:13:12You know it's perfect. They're just pulling out a barky
- 1:13:15ice cube at this point, right? He died.
- 1:13:20He died doing what he loved, yes.
- 1:13:24Well, that sounds like a lot of fun.
- 1:13:27Yeah, what about you? I got a couple of test drives
- 1:13:29next week, but I can't talk about it yet.
- 1:13:31But yeah, I got an interesting film shoot next week, so we'll
- 1:13:35see how that goes. Drag, drag strip and lots of
- 1:13:39different cars of of different types.
- 1:13:41So when I can talk about it, I will, but it may not be for a
- 1:13:45few weeks. It's.
- 1:13:47Embargoed. Yes, we're we're waiting with
- 1:13:49bated breath for the embargo to lift So you can share.
- 1:13:52You can share with us. I think that's a show, isn't it
- 1:13:55guys? I think that it might, just
- 1:13:57might be. Yeah.
- 1:13:59So what is the phrase? The pace?
- 1:14:01That is, remember always be driving and go drive for me
- 1:14:06since I can't right now. Yeah, if you're in none of the
- 1:14:09Pacific Northwest, take a drive for Lindsay.
- 1:14:12And if you're in Colorado, do some ice with Ryan.
- 1:14:17And if you're in California, yeah, come, come hang out.
- 1:14:21It's I'm hoping, hopefully going to catch up with Jay Ryan soon.
- 1:14:24He's back in town. Yeah, I just saw that there's a
- 1:14:30another episode of the podcast, so we'll have to catch up.
- 1:14:33I'm sure he's talking about the tour.
- 1:14:36Yeah, that's good. Excellent.
- 1:14:38Until next week, we've been that car show.
