- Robin Axline: Welcome dear listeners. This is Petty and Unbothered. I'm Robin Axline, and this is Tita Lores. On this episode, we're competing to find the pettiest stories. Do we always get it right? No. Does our rating system make any sense? Also, probably not. Do we find this massively entertaining? That's a resounding yes, and we hope you do too. So let the battle commence So it's around Halloween time, everyone, and I was wondering is Halloween becoming the new Christmas? Are you in October first person or Halloween starts in August person? or when does Halloween season actually begin? So many questions. Tita Lors: Any questions? Shut up! Just kidding. Robin Axline: Humph. yes. Tita Lors: I okay. My answers. I'm an August October 1st Halloween person. Because Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: don't rush me out of summer. Robin Axline: Boom. I totally I'm a hundred percent with you. Tita Lors: Yeah. As a Southern California native, I just don't want to be rushed out of the summer, out of the perfect Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: weather, out of like the beach activities, out of all of the fun. Let me enjoy my summer. Robin Axline: Gonna have said it better myself. And like when people are like, it's fall, no, I'm like, no, it's not. Stop. Tita Lors: Yeah yeah, seriously. and no it's not. What do you mean? Robin Axline: my god, this might sound a little petty, but I'm gonna throw it in there. This weekend I saw a gal who was wearing like brown knee-high boots, tights, like a fall looking knee-legg skirt and a brown turtleneck. Tita Lors: It's hot. It is too hot for that. Robin Axline: I know. It was a warm day too. I was like, girl, I know you want to show off your your sweating. Tita Lors: You're sweating. Robin Axline: I know you want to show off your new threads, but just wait just like a few weeks or not even, but I was just shook. I was like, girl, you can't be comfortable right now. It's like I was wearing shorts. Tita Lors: You cannot possibly be comfortable. anybody comfortable in the summer in that in New York? Isn't it humid? Don't your feet smell like No Robin Axline: It was humid too. Pew. Yeah, so I just had to throw that in there. I was like, don't hurry, follow up. I had that same thought this weekend. Tita Lors: Yeah. I mean I love fall for the fashion just as much as the next girl. Robin Axline: Same, same. Tita Lors: But I don't think that it's necessary. Right now. Robin Axline: No. No, not not one bit. Especially a turtleneck. I was like, is this real life? It was long it was like out to like long Tita Lors: Was it at least like a short sleeve or like a sleeveless? Robin Axline: sleeve. It's pretty like I don't know, it was like I was so surprised. I was like, well that's a full outfit. Tita Lors: That that is a fall outfit if I have heard of one. The PSLs are already out. Robin Axline: That's true, that's true. It's happening. Hmm. Right? No. kind of answers my questions. so we're gonna get into some petty battles. Are you ready for that? Tita Lors: I am so ready. I have come prepared. Robin Axline: Sweet. okay. Tita Lors: Yes. And then like peek behind the scenes. We both didn't realize that we picked the same story and then or Robin realized it, so she picked a different story and then I Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: decided it was too boring. So that story just never made the cut. Whoop womb. Robin Axline: Hey. You're never gonna hear it from us. But I think our stories are a lot more solid than that one. So it was a bit of a yawn. Mm-hmm. are you ready to or do you want to do yours first or Tita Lors: Yeah, I think we have better stories now. Mm-hmm. I a hundred percent agree. Yeah, I can do mine first. Okay. wait, we have like we're gonna let's go story for story. I mean not story for story. title for title. Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: so my first story is I faked a haunting when I was twelve. Robin Axline: Ooh, I like that one. Poller me intrigued. yes. So I have an ongoing silent war with my neighbor about who has the better porch decorations. Call it whatever you Yeah. It's our show. We can name anything we want. Tita Lors: I know. Ho I know. Well, cause they titled it Halloween Horror Story or Hilarious. That doesn't really tell you anything. So say Halloween Prankster gets the what's it like let's workshop this when Robin Axline: Okay. Tita Lors: like when like something okay okay okay I'm gonna call it Halloween Prankster plot twist Robin Axline: Yes. Okay. I like the two Ps, yeah. Prankster plot twist. My last one is called Am I the Asshole for Wearing the Same Halloween as my friend's girlfriend, causing her to cry and break a glass? Yes. Tita Lors: Okay. So of those I Robin Axline: Spoiler alert title. Tita Lors: know seriously. Of those four, who do we think is going to win? Robin Axline: Hmm. I I kinda like the haunting. Kinda makes me like wonder what that's about. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Okay, hold on. I faked a haunting when I was twelve. I have an ongoing silent I think I think the ongoing silent war. Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: Cause this is like this is happening, okay. For a a while. So Robin Axline: Mm. Yes, ongoing. Tita Lors: So my prediction is the ongoing silent war and your prediction Robin Axline: This is so fun. Tita Lors: is the fake haunting. Okay. Well let's get into the fake hunting. So this is from Reddit R slash Petty Revenge. It's from ten months ago by Dode Dodecahydrin. I feel like that's a Robin Axline: Awesome. Tita Lors: real yeah, that's a real thing, right? That that means I feel like that means something anyways. right? Robin Axline: It does. Yeah. Tita Lors: Anyways, from Dodeca Hydrin, I faked a haunting when I was twelve. To preference. To preference? To pre- Yes. Robin Axline: Profess? Tita Lors: To preface, I'm the youngest of three. At the time I was female 12, and the oldest child was female 15. She was going through a phase of teen angst and was really a terror to be around. So I retaliated whenever I could in secret. Even going as far as gluing all her items down to her dresser with super Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: glue after she was mean to me. Robin Axline: brutal. Tita Lors: Wow. That is yeah. Wow. Okay. I don't remember exactly what happened, unfortunately. But for example, she had candles glued down and glued shut. Perfumes glued down and glued shut. Even her deodorant was glued down to the dresser and glued shut. my god. Robin Axline: Wow. Yikes. Tita Lors: Funniest funniest thing is my parents were also getting aggravated with her, so they didn't even ground me for it. But they did ground me for lying about it when I was confronted by them. Fair. Now to get to the story. We had a family friend pass away abruptly, and prior she had been staying with us. She didn't get along the best with my sister as she was again rude to her, but sister was still upset after she passed. We'll call the family member Mary for easier context. Mary was in her last trimester of pregnancy, the first few months she was with us, and ended up having her baby and staying with us a bit after until some things happened and she moved out. she was notorious for drinking Diet Coke and loved lemon pepper seasoning. She put it she put it on everything while pregnant and drank around a two-liter of Diet Coke daily. Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: This will give context later. Girl, that is not good for your baby. Or you. Like Robin Axline: No. Tita Lors: pre my gosh. Robin Axline: And then all that salt, sodium from the soda Tita Lors: I know. Robin Axline: and the salt. Tita Lors: Yeah, like I I can't blame you for the cravings 'cause everyone ha there's something everyone Robin Axline: Right. Tita Lors: wants. But that's a lot a Diet Coke. seasoning. Okay, anyway, so fast forward a few months after she passed away. And my sister had been giving me crap about something. Again, I can't remember what it was, but I was pissed. She had stashed some chips in her room, so I took them when she wasn't home and coated them in cayenne pepper. Around a week Robin Axline: Well. Tita Lors: later she asked me if the chips smelled like lemon pepper seasoning. that's when I got the idea. I agreed and said they definitely had been coated in lemon pepper. And that's odd. And made a joke that Mary was getting revenge for all the times sister was rude to her. no. After a few days, sister was again being a terror and stormed out of the house. I got another idea. Mary's room hadn't been fully cleared out yet, so I found some half-drank Diet Coke two liters and shoved Robin Axline: Ew. Tita Lors: them under her bed, one in her closet and one in her dresser to really seal the deal. The next day, she found the one in her dresser and freaked out, thinking Mary was haunting her. A few days passed and she found the one in her closet and again freaked out about it. Finally, after a month or two, when things calmed down, she cleaned her room and behold, the diet cook stashed under her bed. At this point, she was petrified that Mary was coming back to haunt her because of how she treated her, even tried to convince my mom we needed to hire a priest. After that, I figured I'd relax with the Mary Pranks because I was starting to feel bad about it. To this day, I don't think I've ever actually told her the truth behind it, but she also could have forgotten it happened by now. My mom was eventually told by me what happened, and she was mad at me at first but became but came around and laughed it off sooner or later. I don't think my sister uses this Reddit forum, but in case she does, I'm sorry, and so is Mary. Robin Axline: So is Mary. Tita Lors: man. Yeah. She and that didn't even have to take that much effort. She just did like she agreed with what her sister said and then she did one thing and it just paid dividends over time. Robin Axline: Yeah. It's kind of like a unhinged that there were several Diet Cokes going around the room. Mary's room. Tita Lors: I know. Yeah, well, it hadn't been cleared out yet or cleaned out yet, so like she's she was drinking a lot of Diet Coke. If there were four empty bottles of Diet Coke or like half drank bottles of Diet Coke. I Robin Axline: Dream. Yeah, so weird. Tita Lors: Yeah. That's and how do you not see that? How do you not smell Robin Axline: Yeah, that's what I was Tita Lors: that? Robin Axline: Ugh, yeah, just like bottle like what in the world? That room doesn't sound very clean. Tita Lors: Yeah. Like the two leaders are like that's the big one, right? Robin Axline: Yeah. Where does she just like I just can't even picture it? She's just like in bed going like what's happening? Tita Lors: Y Yeah. But even like the sister. How do you not see the one in your closet? Like how where was that stashed? Robin Axline: Sounds like the sister's room was really messy too, because you know, she was like after she cleaned her room, she found the other one. Tita Lors: Yeah, but that was under the bed. So that one not everybody Robin Axline: And she had chips in her room. Tita Lors: yeah. She did. Robin Axline: And an another follow-up question is like, Tita Lors: Ha ha. Robin Axline: the chips, did she eat them? Cause wouldn't she have been like, these are spicy? Tita Lors: I don't know. I I'm trying to I'm wondering like was it just outside the outside of the bag or was it also inside the bag? Did she open them? Was it an open bag? Are we focusing on the wrong thing here? Robin Axline: I'm picturing like a dirty bedroom with an open bag of chips on the floor or something. Something really gross. And then she just put cayenne pepper in there. It just didn't say that she ate them and was like ha ha or something. Tita Lors: Yeah, no, she just smelled it and she's like, Does this smell like lemon pepper? And I imagine she threw it away. She must because why would you want to eat lemon pepper if that's not what you were Yeah. Robin Axline: maybe that's what happened. Tita Lors: Okay, there's only three. Robin Axline: So then the sister would be like, man. Tita Lors: Yeah. Who no, or it worked out perfectly fine because she thought it smelled like lemon pepper and not cayenne Robin Axline: yeah. Tita Lors: pepper. That's hilarious. let's get in these ratings. Robin Axline: Okay, cool. Okay. Tita Lors: Hold on. So we are rating the sister, the OP. Robin Axline: Nice. shoot. Okay. Tita Lors: Okay. Defend your scores. Robin Axline: Hmm. I I think it was like kind of a little bit of an overreaction because like it was already like something that had happened, kind of, but also like not so much. So I decided to go like neutral of Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: five. Tita Lors: Yeah, same. I was thinking keeping it neutral too. Like her sister was pissing her off. A lot of things were happening. But I don't think she like Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: she really didn't do anything that bad. She just let her sister Robin Axline: Was rude and Tita Lors: make the assumptions. Yeah. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's true. But I mean she was mean to marry apparently, like I don't know. Tita Lors: wait, who are you reading? Robin Axline: No, I was rating the OP. Like Tita Lors: okay, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Her sister was Robin Axline: But I'm just saying. Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah. Robin Axline: And then the spiteful behavior was like super spiteful because it was like she went through all that trouble to like do all these little pranks around. Tita Lors: my gosh. I was only rating the final one, the like the fake haunting. I didn't rate the super glue one. I Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: I duff at the super glue I would have rated a lot higher. Robin Axline: True, I wasn't even really thinking about I mean I was just thinking about mostly the haunting, but seems like she's Tita Lors: Uh-huh. Yeah. Robin Axline: been a spiteful gal. Tita Lors: sister is being mean to her. Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: Yeah, and to marry, so Tita Lors: Yeah. and then I put I put it I ranked it higher on the trivial results because it did seem trivial. Like it's not like what really happened. She got scared and she was convinced that she was being haunted but not like Robin Axline: Yeah, I guess I could see that. I was thinking more on the line of like it caused a result, like that the sister kinda like was changed after that somehow. No, it's it's good. I'm just saying like I don't know how Tita Lors: Good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Robin Axline: trivial it was because like it actually did something. But Tita Lors: true, fair. Yeah. But okay. So that's that. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: Ready for story number two. I'm ready for story number two. Robin Axline: Ya, so this is like a really short top side tangent, I promise. But on April Fool's Day, there was one year where my brothers and I thought we'd be like pranksters in We had like one of those tubs of red vines, like Tita Lors: Uh-huh. Robin Axline: and we took some red vines out of that and we like took the top off and then we put cayenne pepper in them. and then we were like Here, mom, here's a snack. Tita Lors: my gosh. Robin Axline: And then she was like kind of skeptical. She's like, why are you giving these to me? I don't get it. Like it I think. Tita Lors: Yeah. Did she eat it? Robin Axline: no, she didn't need it. But she didn't even think we were doing a prank. She was just kind of like, I don't want these right now kind of thing. But and then we were all like giggling and stuff. We're like, he, like, we're so funny. Like I know. So Tita Lors: It's so obvious. Robin Axline: stupid. Just dumb kids. Tita Lors: gosh. That's so funny. Robin Axline: Anyways, the cayenne pepper. I was like, I've done something like that. That's crazy. Okay, so on to my story. I have an ongoing silent war with my neighbor about who has the better porch decorations. And this is from Silly Confession nine days ago, and the OP is petite olivia. My next door neighbor, bless her heart, thinks she's Martha Stewart. Tita Lors: That's so great. I had to unmute myself to say that. Robin Axline: I know. Every season a new elaborate display pops up on her porch. Think giant inflatable turkeys for Thanksgiving, or enough string lights at Christmas to rival a small town's main street. Whoa. Now I am not a competitive person generally, but something about her over-the-top displays just ignites a fire in me. It started subtly. I'd put out a nice autumn wreath. Then she'd get a whole pumpkin patch scene going. So I'd add some corn stalks. It escalates. The past spring I got a really cute gnome. It was just one gnome, mind you. The next day, she had a whole gnome village. Wow. Complete with a tiny bridge and little fairy lights. I almost choked on my coffee. Currently we are in the early stages of our fall decorating. I have a subtle but tasteful display of muted colored mums and a nice ceramic scarecrow. Nothing too flashy. I thought I was winning this round. Okay. Dream on. But yeah. Yeah. Yesterday I saw her pulling out a huge box from her garage. It looked suspiciously like a life size animatronic witch. I swear I heard cackling. I'm pretty sure she's going for shock and awe this year, and I'm already mentally planning my counterattack. I haven't said a word to her about it. She hasn't said a word to me. It's a completely silent, undeclared war fought with seasonal decor, and I absolutely refuse to lose the end. Tita Lors: I don't know man, her decorations seemed really cool. I think you're already lissing. Robin Axline: Yes. I was like a bridge in fairy lights in a gnome village. Like hell yeah, that sounds great. Tita Lors: Yes. I know. Your neighbor's winning. Sorry. Robin Axline: Yeah, right? Like it's funny that they just kept like one-upping each other and they've never had a conversation about it. Tita Lors: Uh-huh. Robin Axline: my gosh. Tita Lors: Isn't there like a movie about that for Christmas time? Where like the neighbors are just constantly one upping each other and Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: like I know it's kind of in The Grinch You Stole Christmas. The the the more recent one. It's a little bit in that yeah, we're like yeah. Robin Axline: Reasonable. What hold on. Not the Jim Carrey one? Tita Lors: No, the Jim Carrey one. Yeah, where the two Robin Axline: okay. Tita Lors: ladies, like one of Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: is she's got more money and she's just like, mm-hmm, mm, look at my beautiful stuff and then the other, l the little girl's mom is like trying to keep up but can't. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah. I remember that part. It is kinda like that. Aw, this com comment is I hope this battle continues to escalate until eventually the boundaries of yards blur. One and one season you both realize that you've begun decorating together. Although neither of you acknowledges it. TLDR, I hope you both win. Tita Lors: Ha. Robin Axline: this person said holy shades of Chevy Chase. They've made some pretty funny movies about this. Keep us informed. I can't wait to hear about any escalations. There you go. Yeah. Like a Christmas vacation or something like that, I don't know. Tita Lors: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. Something like that along those lines where they're just constantly one upping each other. Speaking of decorations, have you ever driven through Christmas Tree Lane in California? Like I'm sure there's like a lot of different ones. But Robin Axline: I don't think so. Yeah. Tita Lors: in my area right next to the church that I went to, there's like this Christmas tree lane that Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: after in the evening after we did like the midnight mass or whatever before it got crazy, we would just go there and like drive through. because they would keep around the week of Christmas or the day of Christmas Eve with like with all that stuff. then you could just drive through and they would keep the lights on. Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: So and it was so pretty. Now like whenever they start putting out their decorations, you you have to park somewhere else and walk it. Robin Axline: Wow. Tita Lors: Because driving it is just crazy. and they have people who sell like hot cocoa Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: at their houses and stuff and it and you just walk around the whole neighborhood. It's like multiple streets and they have awards and like it's so pretty. Or even like canal the canals in Naples in Long Beach. I don't know if you've ever like walked through there. Robin Axline: Mm-mm. Tita Lors: They have a parade on the water because it's a whole bunch of like canals. So like the boats. They decorate the boats and then they have a boat parade. Yeah. Robin Axline: that's very cool. I've seen something like that in Newport Beach. They had like a at the water. Yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Newport Beach does it too. Mm-hmm. And they do it for Halloween also. Robin Axline: nice. Yeah. I also like when I lived in the Hollywood area, if you like some of those really f rich houses like up in the hills would decorate and then there'd be like a radio station to tune in on your car. So it was like Christmas music. in the cars it was really neat. And then the cars would just go really, really slow because everybody's doing it at once. It's just crazy. But Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Robin Axline: I was gonna say if you come visit in December, I'll take you to like the it's the Diker Heights area of Brooklyn. Tita Lors: Mm. Do they go all out? Ooh, Robin Axline: Crazy houses. Insane. Yeah. Yeah. Tita Lors: okay. So one of the Halloweens, maybe maybe I should try and do it this year. I probably won't. But there's like the area in DC where all of the my god why are words so hard where all the diplomats live so there's Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: just this whole row of like where their where the either their houses or their buildings are and they do trick-or-treating there and so you can like go to each of those places and get stuff and I heard it's really fun. I've never done it but it sounds fun Robin Axline: Yeah, that sounds awesome. You should do it. I bit they better have really good stuff too, if they're diplomats. Tita Lors: They better have the king size candies. Yeah. They're not even using their Robin Axline: Boom. Yeah, I agree. Tita Lors: own money. They're using government money. So king size candies here, people. Mm-hmm. Okay. Let's Robin Axline: Yeah. Bring it. Yeah. All right, we ready to rate my Tita Lors: do it. Okay, I have to think. Robin Axline: This one's a little tricky because it could be the OP I mean, they're both kind of Tita Lors: Yeah. I know. Robin Axline: But I'd say the OP maybe because like they're the ones that kinda like started the war a little bit. Hmm. That's true. That's true because Yeah. Wait, I'm almost done. One sec. my gosh. Tita Lors: I was like, that's beyond the scale here. Ooh, you went we we're pretty neck and neck on everything but spiteful. We both Robin Axline: Dang. Tita Lors: think it's like more than average overreaction. But you don't think it's that spiteful? Robin Axline: I mean I guess it is. Cause yeah, I guess it is, but now I can't change my results, so Tita Lors: Yeah. 'Cause it's like I the the neighbor was just doing their own thing and then this person was just like, Well then I I wanna participate and do this, right? It wasn't really a competition competition and then the neighbor Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: saw that and then was just like clocked it. Robin Axline: Hmm. Yeah. Tita Lors: and and decided to go a little extra and then she clocked it and went a little bit more extra. They're just Yeah, yeah. It's Robin Axline: The spiteful weird back and forth stuff. Tita Lors: like it it's flavors of spite there. 'Cause they don't want to be Robin Axline: Slowly. Tita Lors: lit yeah, have the worst decoration. That's so funny. Robin Axline: I love how she was like, I did like a beige thing that's tasteful and I thought I won or stupid. yeah, tasteful. Okay. Okay, tasteful. Yeah. Tita Lors: I know yeah snotty with your little nose up in the air Tasteful, sure Whatever you say Robin Axline: okay. That was a funny one. Ugh. Tita Lors: That was okay. so here's my next one. So again, on Reddit, R slash Petty Revenge. This is from three years ago by OK underscore Royal 6055. And they titled it Halloween Horror Story or Hilarious. But I'm calling it Halloween Prankster Plot Twist. Robin Axline: Nice. Tita Lors: Wow, we were well, I was one year old when this happened. Back in nineteen eighty seven, Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: when I was seven, my thirteen-year-old big brother took me trick-or-treating with him and his girlfriend. We were later joined by his friends, twin brothers who I'll leave nameless. they learned where their junior high principal lived years before and had a tradition of kicking in the faces of her meticulously carved pumpkins and Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: slashing her tires. Slashing her tires What did she Robin Axline: Whoa, someone stepped too far. Tita Lors: I know what did she do to you? my goodness. Robin Axline: Tires aren't cheap. Tita Lors: For real, dude. That's so expensive. Even back then I well I don't know. That was that's Robin Axline: I have no idea. Tita Lors: when like twenty dollars could you could like fill up your gas tank, tip the person who filled it up for you and s and have change left over. Like Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: anyways, anyways. They made sure to wear a mask in case she heard the ruckus and basically thought they were committing the perfect crime. Apparently, she'd had enough and decided to get her revenge. She purchased two brass, I'm guessing the material, pumpkins, painted them to look realistic, and when one of the idiots tried kicking one halfway across Arizona, the only sound made was a crunch. Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: Ugh, I could hear it in my head. I Robin Axline: And Tita Lors: can feel it in my bones, how painful that must have been. Okay, the only sound made was a crunch, followed by a blood curdling scream. Several toes and bones were fractured. Even though I know Robin Axline: Hmm. Whoa. Tita Lors: I know, right? Ugh. Robin Axline: What the heck? Tita Lors: gosh, even though I know I saw her curtain move, she never once came out of the house. The following Monday, the principal stood outside her office as students entered the building. When the broken brother, nickname brother's girlfriend, gave him yes, it stuck. Most call him BB to this day. Robin Axline: Well, that's cool. Tita Lors: Yep. crutched his way past her with a huge cast on his lower leg, she of course asked, sweetie, what happened to you? She also made sure to give him her brightest smile every morning afterwards till summer vacation started. Turned out she committed the perfect crime. They couldn't even tell their parents what she'd done without admitting what they'd been doing. And the icing on the cake is that she painted laughy faces her term on those pumpkins the next year and has every Halloween since. Anyway, thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this. Hope you enjoyed it. That's hilarious. Okay. What do you think? Robin Axline: Wow. Yeah. I think like i it was on the kid to like he did it. I mean, like, what did he I mean eventually it was gonna catch up at some point if they just did it like year after year. Tita Lors: I know. Like what were they expecting that this person was just they I mean, they're either gonna stop putting out the the pumpkins or something else is gonna end up there. Yeah. Robin Axline: Pumpkins. You're gonna trick or a treat or whatever. Also like what shoes was he wearing? I I guess they weren't steel toed boots or anything like of the sort. Tita Lors: Yeah, apparently not. Robin Axline: Like what was he wearing? House slippers or flip flops? Chucks, yeah. Tita Lors: Chucks, probably. Robin Axline: That kind of yeah, I would say. Something like that. Some canvas shoes. Tita Lors: Right? I feel like that way you definitely weren't wearing Doc Martins or anything. No Timberlins. Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: Was was do Timberlins was Timberlands Robin Axline: Timps. Yeah. Tita Lors: it like a thing back in the eighties? Late eighties? I Robin Axline: I don't know. Tita Lors: don't think so. I don't think Tim's was was a thing yet. Robin Axline: Let's see. I have some Tims. Let's see. Tita Lors: I have healed Timberlands. Robin Axline: Ooh. Tita Lors: Yeah, those are my favorites. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's cool. Okay. Boot trend started in the nineteen nineties. Tita Lors: Ooh, so Tim's didn't exist yet. Interesting. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: The founder is white. Robin Axline: L O L. Tita Lors: I guess that actually it makes sense that the founder is white, but I just have always thought Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: of it as a part of like black culture. Robin Axline: Yeah, well even this article says how hip hop helped make Timberland a billion dollar company. The company started in 73 as a durable gear for New England construction workers and outdoor laborers. Tita Lors: okay, so Timberlands did exist back then. Robin Axline: Yeah. But then like it says the urban shift happened in the late eighties, early nineties. So he could have had Tim's on, but he sure probably didn't. Tita Lors: Yeah, he could have. Nope. No Tim's or Doc Martins. He was wearing Chucks. When did Chucks happen? Robin Axline: those are like long time. Choke cheese. We're talking shoes here. nineteen seventeen? One seven? Tita Lors: One seven. Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: My gosh. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. When Converse introduced the All-Star basketball sneaker before the era of Air Jordan's boost technology or modern sneaker hype. Robin Axline: Wow. Huh. Tita Lors: And then Robin Axline: Wow. Tita Lors: early nineteen twenties, Charles Chuck Taylor, who was a semi professional basketball player, joined the team, became an ambassador, and helped to create the Chuck Taylor All Stars. Robin Axline: Wow. Mind blown. Tita Lors: Yeah, same Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: Ding. And then From Hoops to Rebellion, the Punk Rock Era. By the nineteen seventies to the nineteen eighties, Chuck Taylors. Probably the punk rock era. I feel like this is a good story for you. Ooh, especially with the controversy. Have you seen the new ads for Chuck Taylors? We'll talk later. Robin Axline: Hm what No? Okay, we'll talk. We'll talk tailors. Tita Lors: Okay. We'll talk tailors. All right, let's put in our scores. Robin Axline: Okay. Tita Lors: Okay, I would say let's rate do we wanna rate the teacher or the kid? Robin Axline: I guess the teeth or or the yeah, I guess the principal because Tita Lors: I mean not the teacher, the principal. Yeah. I w yeah. Robin Axline: yeah. Tita Lors: Okay, okay. Robin Axline: All right. Tita Lors: We're on the same wavelength here. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: Ooh we were almost Robin Axline: Whoa. Tita Lors: right on the nose with this one. Robin Axline: Nice. That's pretty cool. Yeah, that's about right. Tita Lors: Okay. Yeah, 'cause it it doesn't that wasn't an overreaction, right? Like Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: I'm gonna stop this from happening, whether it's the same person that's doing it all the time or not, like I don't want this to keep happening. It's spiteful because you could have literally chosen any other solution. But you chose one that you knew was going to hurt. Robin Axline: There Tita Lors: So that was faiful and it wasn't trivial because they got someone got hurt like pretty bad. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah, that's true. What I Yeah, it's kinda like what you were saying about like, well she didn't have to put pumpkins out, period. Like just Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: don't do it. Tita Lors: Yeah. But that sucks 'cause that like takes away from her joy. So she found something to have her joy and not get it like messed up. She could've picked Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: some other something that wasn't going to be painful. Robin Axline: Yeah, yeah. That's true. But again, like I don't blame her really 'cause like I was saying like tires getting slashed is pretty messed up for one. Tita Lors: Yeah, dude. I my gosh, I actually forgot about that. You have cost her at f at least five hundred dollars, if not more. Like, I don't know how much tires Robin Axline: Yeah, probably 'cause like I was saying, like Tita Lors: cost back then, but Robin Axline: Yeah. St and then also like for her to have to like go get new tires or the auto club would have to come patch up the tires. I don't know. Tita Lors: Yeah, or she would have to like take a day off of work. Robin Axline: Probably, yeah. The heck? Well it says in the eighties an average car tire Yeah, go ahead. Whoa. Right. Jeez. Yeah, root. So with that being no, I don't think so. Especially 'cause of that. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Man. Okay. Is everyone ready for their final story? Robin Axline: Yeah. Alrighty s so Tita Lors: All right, let's do it. Robin Axline: the next story is the aforementioned Am I the Asshole for wearing the same Halloween Yes It's gotta be as my Tita Lors: I'm gonna assume Halloween costume. Yeah. Robin Axline: friend's girlfriend causing her to cry and break a glass. okay. It's from I'm I'm the asshole in the OP is Tyr Tirr la Bries. Tirerla Bries. Okay. On mobile, so apologies for formatting. Obviously the title states this happened a while ago. Obviously. Ha ha Tita Lors: It did not actually state that. Robin Axline: Okay, but I was reminded of this situation recently and I want to know if I am TA. Everyone in this situation was in their twenties. The story. My friend S and his roommate were throwing a Halloween party. S called me a couple days before the party to chat and I mentioned what my costume was and that I'd worked hard on it and was excited to finally wear it. S said he thought his girlfriend, D, was planning to wear a nearly identical costume. I thought this would be fun and we could compare styles and have a laugh about the whole thing, take pictures together, etc. The day before the party, S called me and asked if I could change my costume for the party. Mm-mm. I don't like it. Tita Lors: No. Robin Axline: Don't like it. apparently D was pissed that I would try to outshine her, in quotation marks. S's words. And she told S that he needed to ensure I would not wear the same thing as her. Okay. Why? Tita Lors: Yeah, why are we policing what people wear to a Halloween party? Robin Axline: Yeah, and why wouldn't she talk to OP about it? Tita Lors: Exactly. Also, they didn't know what you were going to wear. Robin Axline: yeah, how did they boy, okay. I said absolutely not. I've been working on my costume for a few weeks and spent a good amount of money to make it perfect in my eyes. I said that I really didn't want to lose out on having fun in something that I'd worked hard on and didn't have a ton of money to spend on a new costume. Not to mention, most of the costume shops wouldn't have a great selection the day before Halloween. S said he understood and would talk to D. As a note, D didn't live with S and was not helping with hosting duties. Yes, weird. Okay. The party comes around and everyone is having a great time. After a few hours I noticed Dee wasn't there and asked S where she was. Dot dot dot. She was in S's bedroom alone the whole time with the door locked. Tita Lors: Wow. Robin Axline: Okay, drama queen. She f Tita Lors: God my goodness. Seriously? You're going to ruin your own night? Just because someone else showed up in a similar costume that probably looks nothing like your costume because they made it? Like Robin Axline: That is bizarre and I my god. This reminds me of a story I might tell you off air. Put it. Tita Lors: boo, say it on end. Robin Axline: okay, so so she was in the bedroom alone the whole time with the door locked. She finally came out four hours after the party started, only to see me and smash her drink slash glass on the floor and then she started crying. It was a huge scene and basically ended the party. Tita Lors: What? Robin Axline: I felt bad because I really could have gone out and bought a different costume, and I never meant to make her cry, so am I the asshole? edited to add, a lot of folks keep asking what the costume was. It wasn't anything original at all. We both sewed our own versions of the grayish-purple dress Carrie Mulligan wore as Daisy Buchanan in the Great Gatsby film. The dress had some unique detailing on the front and shoulders, almost like little tulip shapes sewn on. The movie was already many years old by the time the situation occurred, so I assumed nobody else would have the same idea as me, since it wasn't a recent film or trend at the time. Too long didn't read. My friend's girlfriend and I had the same Halloween costume. She freaked out and threw a glass on the floor. Tita Lors: Dude. Get over it. Like. Honestly, are you do you care if somebody's wearing the same outfit as you when you go somewhere? No. I'm always like, hey, like mines, man. Great mines. Yes. Can Robin Axline: Yeah. Twenty. Yeah. Tita Lors: we take a picture? What's up? Robin Axline: I know. It reminds me of Yeah, I I wouldn't be Tita Lors: I'm always excited. It reminds you. Robin Axline: mad about it. Well I was gonna r say it reminds me of the OG Beverly Hills 902 and prom episode where Brenda had the same dress as Kelly. It was like a black and white dress and it was like a huge issue. That's all I have to say. Well there's also an episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy and Ethel had the same dress and that was a whole drama. Tita Lors: I feel like I remember that one. Yeah. Yeah. Robin Axline: It's had like this big flower on it. Drama Rama. So yeah, I guess it some people mind. Tita Lors: Who cares? It's not even up staging. Like you have different you both created your own dress and that was a beautiful dress. And like major props to both of them for putting in the work Robin Axline: We're sewing it. Tita Lors: and the effort and sewing that together or turning Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: another dress into that. That's awesome. Like and it's Robin Axline: Right. Tita Lors: not going to be exactly the same dress. It's going to be somewhat slightly different. Like side tangent, my brain the dress that I would want to re recreate is the Kira Knightly dress from my god, what's that movie? Robin Axline: Sense insensibility or no. Tita Lors: No. It's the green dress. Robin Axline: Hmm. what is that movie? Atonement or something or Tita Lors: Atonement, yes, yes, yes, yes. That's the one that I would do. That's Robin Axline: Yeah, it's a fab dress. Tita Lors: an amazing dress. But like, let's say that I was able to recreate that dress and then somebody else recreated the dress, I would have been like, I know exactly who you are. And damn, you look so good. god. Great. Robin Axline: Yeah. you know what's even more funny I just thought of how you said I know exactly who you are is like how many people were like, that's the Daisy dress from the great gas field Leonardo DiCaprio. Like, what the heck? Who are you? Tita Lors: Exactly. Exactly. Everyone was probably like, You are a flopper girl Like and that's it. Robin Axline: And the only people that knew were them, probably. Tita Lors: Exactly. Yeah. Like, she ruined her own evening and then she ruined everyone else's evening because she thought somebody else was going that s she thought somebody else could outstage her. Robin Axline: Gosh. That is insane. Tita Lors: Like yeah. So this whole idea of like being outstaged, I just can never get behind it because anytime I go anywhere with my friends and they're like, What are we wearing? The finest outfit you got. Like Robin Axline: Hm. Tita Lors: your assets out. I want to see them. Like the curves show them. Robin Axline: Sets out. Hmm. Tita Lors: The hair make it happen. Like I want to see the finest friend walking Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: next to me so that people can know my friends are fly as fuck. I vain. I have very attractive friends. I'm not going anywhere with people who are not attractive. Like it's just not me. And even if they're not attractive to you, they're attractive to me. And I Robin Axline: Mm. Tita Lors: love my friends, and they're so fucking fly. And they are amazing women. So I want them to look their finest. Also, I like to Robin Axline: Amen. Tita Lors: use them and their assets to get into places for free. Exactly. Robin Axline: Why not? Why not? Life's too short. Tita Lors: Right, like come on, like why are we doing this to each other? Of I don't want you to look better than me. Look better than me. Robin Axline: It's insane. Like wouldn't you want people to see that you fucks with like attractive or are just like confident women and like Tita Lors: Yes. Robin Axline: that's crazy. Tita Lors: Exactly. Like when we were doing the theme parties, my god, there was nobody louder than me when you won. And I even Robin Axline: To Tita Lors: told you you're you're you're winning. So you you you're getting on the stage. Like it's not even question. Robin Axline: You my gosh. You were like the one other if you weren't there, I would have just been like, no. Tita Lors: Yeah no, yes. Get on the stage. Right now I like Robin Axline: You're the kind of friend you're the you're the kind of friend that everybody like needs and or wishes they had. Yeah, yeah. Tita Lors: Right? Why why be friends with people who tear you down or make you feel shitty? Those are not friends. Like it Robin Axline: Hm. Tita Lors: just doesn't make sense. And I get that she's not your friend. But like Robin Axline: Yeah, I guess so, but Tita Lors: why is she in the friend group then? Like you really need Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: to reconsider your girlfriend, my guy. Robin Axline: I was that's what I was just thinking. I was like, Well, maybe like he needs to take a few steps, zoom out a little bit, yeah. Tita Lors: Uhhuh. Yeah, like is that the person that you want to s spend your life with? Robin Axline: I mean it then it makes me wonder like was she under any kind of like influence like substance wise or or if that's just how she is? I don't know. Tita Lors: Yeah. Well I was like, what was she doing inside the room? B why did you finally come out four hours later? And like, Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: did you not know that she was already dressed like you only like Robin Axline: Yeah, all those things. And like my god. And then it gave her the opportunity, she could have changed her dress if she was that concerned. Tita Lors: If she was that upset about looking exactly like somebody else, she could have also changed. Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: Or she could have made her outfit even more fly. Robin Axline: Hmm. Yeah, it added like more like necklaces or whatever. Yeah. Tita Lors: Like I feel bad because it really speaks to her own self image and her own lack of confidence. And that sucks for her because I bet that she looked amazing. And I bet that her costume was so freaking awesome. And if she had just come out, then everybody else would have seen how awesome it was and she would have gotten the props and the praise that she was looking for. And it really Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: I feel really bad for her and it sucks that Robin Axline: Hmm. Totally. Yeah, a hundred percent. That is really sad. Tita Lors: Yeah, that just sucks. Yeah. And I'm happy that the other person didn't let that take away from her happiness and that the the friend, the boyfriend of this chick didn't say, you know, yeah, no, you're not allowed to wear that or you're not allowed to come if you wear that because that's wild. Robin Axline: Yeah. And at least he was like, I'm gonna talk to her. He didn't just keep the issue up as a friend ruiner or something like friendship ruiner. Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like here's what's happening. You decide how you're going to react or respond. Definitely. Mm-hmm. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah. So it's too bad. Tita Lors: What a shame. Robin Axline: Yeah. Or he could have dressed up like Leonardo DiCaprio and then that would have upped their game too. Tita Lors: Exactly. Cause then they would have been a pair now like right like you by yourself, you Daisy who got ditched. Like Yeah, but you she could have been Daisy with her man. Robin Axline: Daisy got ditched. man. Mm-hmm. Missed opportunity right there. Tita Lors: Totally. So that just sucks. Robin Axline: Yeah. Anywho, should we rate it? Tita Lors: Let's rate it. Okay. Wait, who are we rating? OP or Robin Axline: All right. Tita Lors: the girl? Robin Axline: I would say gosh, that's a I guess the girl. 'Cause the OP didn't do anything. Well, except that she wore the outfit and then she felt bad about it. Tita Lors: Yeah, but feeling bad about it doesn't mean you're being petty. She like had a conversation with somebody and there was an agreement that she could wear it. She just did she just did what was agreed upon. Nobody said don't wear it. Let's read Robin Axline: Okay, let's right. Let's do a twist and do the Tita Lors: let's do the girlfriend. Yeah. Robin Axline: S D. okay, okay. Thought you were just like really really Tita Lors: Really thinking about this? Robin Axline: thinking about this. Tita Lors: Okay. So again, it looks like we're on this one we're pretty neck and neck. Like just one off on everything. Like, yeah, I feel like she for sure was overreacting. I was a little bit stuck on the spiteful, on like how spiteful I thought she was being. Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: But yeah. And then trivial, I got a little bit stuck there too. I don't know about you, 'cause like yeah, like Robin Axline: I d that's the one I was like hmm about. Tita Lors: yeah, yeah. 'Cause I mean the party ended and you ruined everyone's night and I was like Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: it that's not that trivial. That's a lot of people who had to disperse and like wasted money. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: Okay. Who do you think won after even just a precursor of looking at these? Robin Axline: I would say this dressed one seems like Tita Lors: Yeah. In a crazy twist of fate. The winner is insert drum roll here. wait, I can put the drum roll. Wait, drum roll. Whoa my god, I cannot speak. Robin Axline: Drum roll, please. Tita Lors: Am I the asshole for wearing the same Halloween costume as my friend's girlfriend? Yay. Robin Axline: Woo And bringing a glass. No. Tita Lors: Yeah. you do. I think it's so crazy, like, and causing her causing her to break a glass. I guess. I don't know. In that last part, causing her to break cry and break a glass, like, you're taking responsibility for something somebody else did to themselves. Robin Axline: Yeah, that is a good point. So maybe we don't even add that part. Tita Lors: Yeah. Like you didn't cause her to cry and you didn't cause her to break a glass. Sh Robin Axline: Break a glass. Tita Lors: yeah, she broke the glass because she had big feelings that she could not navigate on her own. Like that was really upsetting to her. And she made a choice. Would not have been my choice. Robin Axline: And she she ruined her boyfriend's party. Tita Lors: Yeah, and she ruined the party for herself. She wasted all of her effort because her dress never got seen. She was in a room for hours. Robin Axline: my gosh, that is crazy. Tita Lors: Yeah. So and I bet she did a lot more crying after that because I bet you her and her boyfriend were fighting. Yeah. Seriously. Robin Axline: you know it, you know it. He's like, what the fuck? Tita Lors: Are you fucking kidding me right now? You should leave. Like, please go. Robin Axline: I was thinking like almost like a movie, like a high school movie party, you know, like where something big happens and then people just scatter, like get out of there, leave the party. Tita Lors: Mm, mhm. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Always think that too. Yeah. I would have been like, love you, but you gotta go. Like, Robin Axline: Yeah, yeah. Tita Lors: can't have you acting this way. That's a little cray. Not cray cray, it just it's a little bit Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: it's a bit much. Robin Axline: Just a little bit. That's what I was like, okay, drum queen earlier, because it's Yeah, Tita Lors: I wanted to say that too, but I also didn't. Robin Axline: I know. I was like, yeah, that's not quite it, but yeah. Man. Tita Lors: Mm. Mm. Like I'm I'm sorry that I'm sorry that somebody else is wearing the same outfit for you and that Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: you that was not what you had planned. And I I can understand how disappointing that was, right? That like you Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: wanted to to be the bell of the ball. This is your boyfriend's party. Like you really wanted to stand out. Robin Axline: Yes. Yeah. Just enjoyed herself. Yeah. I was thinking thinking what would I do, but then I was like, I did go to a thing where a costume thing, where I was poison ivy, and then there was like a couple other poison ivy's and so we were all just kinda like, Hey, isn't this so funny? And then complimented Tita Lors: Yeah. Uh-huh. Robin Axline: each other, like, I love your jewelry or I love this. No Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: big deal. Tita Lors: Exactly. Yeah. There's only been like the only time that I would consider maybe not wearing my outfit is my friend usually will she throws themed birthday parties 'cause her birthday's in October. Robin Axline: Okay. Tita Lors: And she was like, Here's a theme for my birthday party. You're not no one's allowed to be this person. 'Cause that's what I'm gonna be dressed as. Robin Axline: Okay, that's fair. It's her birthday. Tita Lors: Right. And I'm exactly. It's your birthday. You told me ahead of time. I Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: like I probably wouldn't have picked that because I don't have the money to be that elaborate. Like I don't know what I'm gonna pick, but I'll be in theme. Robin Axline: Now I mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Tita Lors: Right? And now I know, like there's a set expectation, but you Robin Axline: Yes. Tita Lors: can't after the fact say, no, no, no, you can't do that. Like Robin Axline: Especially like the day before Halloween. That was really messed up. See that would be different. Yeah. Tita Lors: Exactly, right? Like I I had a carnival theme party and I w was like please dressed up as like a person in the carnival but no one's allowed to be the ringmaster because that's me, bitches. Like Robin Axline: Incredible. Tita Lors: Yeah, but also if anybody did show up as a ringmaster, my outfit was so fire I would not have Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: cared. I'd have been like, I look better than you, but you know, you tried and that's cute and I'm happy for you. But Robin Axline: That's awesome. Yeah, that's a right attitude. Tita Lors: you know, and then let's take a picture together. Because whatever. 'Cause I know Robin Axline: Uh-huh. Tita Lors: I I knew especially that in that moment I looked really good. I'll s I'll send you a picture. It was so good. Robin Axline: I was gonna say t pictures, yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah. And my little Betsy, she was my she was my lion. I put Robin Axline: cute, I love that. Tita Lors: a thing around her and she is my lion. Yeah. Robin Axline: very nice. Aww. Tita Lors: All right. No worries. Robin Axline: okay. Rewind. Okay, So until next time. Fuck it. Stay petty. Bye. Happy Halloween. Tita Lors: no. Yeah. Cause 'cause that's Robin Axline: well, I didn't Tita Lors: the one that I decided that's the one I decided I didn't want to do. Yeah, that Robin Axline: That was boring. Tita Lors: was boring. Okay. well then Robin Axline: Yeah, that's it. That was the one that I had too. And then I was like, nah, that is kind of boring. That's so funny. And plus we went on that haunted house tangent too already. Tita Lors: We did. Mm-hmm. Where somebody got slapped. Robin Axline: I love that. The slap fiddle. 'Cause you're like, what happened? A scream and then a slap. Tita Lors: Yeah. he totally deserved that. Robin Axline: I only had one time where I actually genuinely got kind of like kind of it was like I went to this haunted house and this person had dots on them and it matched the wallpaper. And so like I walked into like that part of the thing and then they just like stepped out from the wallpaper and I was like, Yeah, I was almost like get away Tita Lors: Ho ho ho ho Robin Axline: from me. Well that one freaked me out. Tita Lors: I think the creepiest yeah, the creepiest haunted houses were like Queen Mary for sure had some pretty good ones, I think. Robin Axline: yeah, I bet. Tita Lors: Like I remember going through those with my friend. Or with the same cousin who slaps somebody back to back. I was like, I Robin Axline: Hm. Tita Lors: look up, you look down I look left, you look right, like we're going through this. Robin Axline: Teamwork. Tita Lors: prepared and no one I actually my god memory unlock so ballet slippers were like a thing right ballet shoes were a thing for a while yeah Robin Axline: yeah. Actually they're kinda coming back, but yes. Tita Lors: I know I'm I've been wearing them more often though. So I I was wearing that at the Queen Mary thing and I got so freaked out 'cause my friend was like clutching onto me and I was like, my god, like we both freaked out and I lost my shoe. Robin Axline: No way. Tita Lors: Yeah, it came off and I had to go back for it. And I like I went back to the shoe and of course they know that I'm gonna come back for the shoe. And so they're like this close to me. And I'm just like Reaching for the slipper and try Robin Axline: My shoe. Tita Lors: to stay away from them as much as possible. Just like, Robin Axline: that's a good st got my shoe by it's a good story. Tita Lors: Okay, bye! Let me put this bag on. man, I totally forgot about that. That was hilarious. I don't Robin Axline: that's a good one. At least you got your shoe. Tita Lors: know, could you imagine if I just never got it back? Never went back for it. I was like, god, no. So Robin Axline: Yeah. pretty funny. Tita Lors: don't wear ballet slippers when you go to haunted houses. They do not stay on your feet securely. It's not a good idea. Robin Axline: Ha gosh, I had so many like different kinds of those. So crazy. yeah, black was a good yeah. I'd like some green ones that I like too. Tita Lors: I think I had maybe like a brown, brownish black one, Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: maybe that I tried. It just didn't do it for me. Robin Axline: Yeah. man.
