- 0:27Hi everyone. Welcome to Mini Scroll, the
- 0:30daily Internet culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories
- 0:34from social media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:37Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:41I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:44media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:49everyone. OK, reminder, High Stakes is
- 0:52back. So go subscribe to them.
- 0:54Watch their latest episode. We have had some feedback that
- 0:57it's their best episode yet. It's the funniest.
- 1:00I think the girls are finding their stride.
- 1:02It takes a little while, right? To like get used to podcasting
- 1:05and being on the mic and showing your personality.
- 1:07And before this, they'd only done 13 episodes total.
- 1:11So it's always going to take a bit of time.
- 1:12But I do think they've come into this new season like hit the
- 1:16ground running. They've done this before.
- 1:18Now they're less nervous, they're more excited, they're
- 1:21more confident, and it's a really good episode.
- 1:24Also, I forgot to share last week that I am in the Molly May
- 1:31behind It All Season 2 trailer, like the official Prime Video
- 1:35trailer. They've used a clip from Mini
- 1:38Scroll. Actually, when I talked about
- 1:40Molly May and how the Internet was going off about her
- 1:43parenting stuff. This was like a couple months
- 1:45ago. Wasn't actually that long ago.
- 1:46But yeah, they've used a clip of me in Mini Scroll.
- 1:49They did get permission. Like, they asked me.
- 1:51They paid me. It was actually like a very
- 1:53professional experience. I knew this was happening.
- 1:56But yeah, very cool. I'm the only, like, other person
- 1:59in the trailer aside from, you know, like Molly and Tommy and
- 2:02her family and stuff. It's like just me and like a
- 2:04bunch of headlines to likeyouknow.com headlines.
- 2:07But yeah, I'm like the only podcaster personality in it.
- 2:11Very cool. It's like 3 seconds long.
- 2:13I'm interested to see if when they touch on that specific
- 2:16topic, if I'm in the episode itself.
- 2:18I did ask for credit, like I asked them to credit Centennial
- 2:21World Podcast Network, which they did not in the trailer.
- 2:25So I am interested to see if they will in the final episode
- 2:28if that is shown in the episode. All right, before I get into it,
- 2:32Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 2:34We're trying to get to 1000 Spotify star ratings by the end
- 2:38of the year. All right, let's get into the
- 2:40stories for today. So the first story that I have
- 2:43for you guys is I wanted to give a very high level recap of
- 2:47Unwell Vegas, which is Alex Cooper's Unwell Networks, like
- 2:51convention, pop culture convention festival that just
- 2:54happened this weekend in Las Vegas.
- 2:56So essentially, yes, it was like a festival convention thing
- 2:59where people could buy tickets. You could basically party with
- 3:02Alex and the Unwell network and the celebrities that they had
- 3:06invited. There were panels, there were
- 3:08like DJ sets. There was like tons going on.
- 3:10It did actually look really fun, at least from social.
- 3:13The biggest guest as far as I saw, Trisha Paytas, Paris
- 3:17Hilton, Nicole Byer, Harry Jowsey, Tera Yummy, Heather
- 3:21McMahon, Hallie Batchelder, Chrishelle Staus, and then a ton
- 3:25of like Bravo liberties like Meredith Marx, Sonia Morgan,
- 3:29Heather Gay, Kathy Hilton, Erica Jane, Stassi Schroeder, Bethenny
- 3:33Frankel and more. It did look star-studded in
- 3:37terms of like the people that I personally care about.
- 3:39Like it was like the perfect crossover for we as a human
- 3:42being, a Bravo Liberty and then like chronically online
- 3:45celebrities. Like nothing is more Lauren
- 3:47Meisner than that. Tricia Paytas at Unwell Festival
- 3:52was awarded the lifetime achievement award for online
- 3:56excellence and peak insanity. And no matter how you feel about
- 4:01Tricia, I'm going to say if Tricia's going to win any type
- 4:04of lifetime achievement award like this, is it especially by
- 4:07the Unwell Network, Like if you were to say what celebrity, what
- 4:12like online personality is the most unwell like it's probably
- 4:14Trisha Paytas just like as a human.
- 4:17So it's very fitting. Now there was a little bit of
- 4:21like fan drama feedback criticism around this because
- 4:24fans were pretty shook that Tana Mojo flew back from Hawaii
- 4:29apparently to watch Trisha get this award at Unwell when she
- 4:33didn't fly back to LA for Brooks engagement.
- 4:35I don't need to rehash why that was, but she basically said that
- 4:39she was getting like construction on her house in
- 4:41Hawaii and couldn't get it moved.
- 4:43And people didn't really feel like that excuse was valid.
- 4:47She said she was going to make it up to Brooke.
- 4:48So I mean, I don't know, right? Like if Brooke doesn't care,
- 4:51then Brooke doesn't care. But people kind of thought that
- 4:53was interesting that she would go to support Tricia for
- 4:57something as kind of frivolous as like the unwell networks,
- 5:01like a lifetime achievement award.
- 5:02Like, you know, Tricia's not winning a Tony.
- 5:04She's not winning an Emmy, a Grammy, like something.
- 5:06I mean, I don't know, I guess all awards are like somewhat
- 5:08arbitrary, but you know what I mean?
- 5:10People were like, OK, that's kind of weird.
- 5:12Also side notes, Speaking of Tricia Paytas, she has announced
- 5:15that she is doing a Broadway run in Beetlejuice as Maxine Dean in
- 5:20November. So Tricia's like officially
- 5:22going to Broadway. She went to Broadway for one
- 5:24night where she was herself, but now she's going to like actually
- 5:27perform in Broadway, which is very cool for her.
- 5:30So yes, Unwell, the festival, it looked pretty wild.
- 5:33Like I said, it was just like pop culture parties, DJs, comedy
- 5:37shows, live podcast panels. It did look like something I
- 5:41would have loved to be at personally.
- 5:43I also did want to point this out because it's making the
- 5:45rounds on TikTok now off the back of Unwell Festival, but it
- 5:48happened last month. So JoJo Siwa spoke out on the
- 5:52podcast Radio Andy last month about how she was unhappy with
- 5:56how Alex Cooper treated her during her Call Her Daddy
- 5:59interview last year. Alex like and and this this
- 6:04might not be fair of me to say because she might have a
- 6:07different opinion on this, but I can use my better judgment and
- 6:10like the conversation felt very like she questioned a lot of
- 6:16things about me, right? And was like, how does this make
- 6:19sense? How does that make?
- 6:20Sense I fear that's just what an interview is, but I think it's
- 6:25interesting to hear that she felt almost disrespected by Alex
- 6:29because that's the exact opposite feedback that everybody
- 6:33fan wise gives Alex all the time that she doesn't interrogate her
- 6:37guests enough. So it's interesting that JoJo
- 6:39Siwa feels like she was over interrogated by Alex.
- 6:43OK, the next story that I have for you guys is King Kylie.
- 6:47The King Kylie era is officially launching at Kylie Cosmetics.
- 6:51I cannot believe I'm talking about a Kylie Cosmetics
- 6:54collection launch right now in 2025 on Mini Scroll.
- 6:58That feels so wrong, but it's relevant.
- 7:01We are really living for the 2016 nostalgia because King
- 7:04Kylie is back, at least in the form of makeup.
- 7:07So Kylie Jenner has announced a new makeup line from her brand
- 7:10Kylie Cosmetics called the King Kylie Collection.
- 7:13So as we know, King Kylie was kind of like a baddie persona,
- 7:17an era of Kylie Jenner's, if you will, that she adopted in the
- 7:21mid twenty 10s. It included teal hair, bold
- 7:25makeup, kind of that like Tumblr early social media aesthetic.
- 7:29And it was also really tied to the early days of Kylie
- 7:32cosmetics when her brand was more closely aligned with her
- 7:35personal style that like edgy glam era and she was so huge on
- 7:40Snapchat. King Kylie is considered the
- 7:42most relevant era of Kylie Jenner's career and she has
- 7:45tried to do revivals here and there.
- 7:48But now it seems amid the booming 2016 nostalgia online
- 7:52that we're seeing everywhere on TikTok talk, she's decided to
- 7:55properly harness it with a new line.
- 7:57Now, the makeup collections packaging is the start of this
- 8:00line. It features old Snapchat photos
- 8:02of Kylie and memes that Internet users created from the King
- 8:07Kylie era, which is really funny and relevant and I love that
- 8:10she's leaning into that. In the promo, Kylie is wearing a
- 8:132011 Roberto Cavalli snakeskin set and it actually shows her
- 8:18getting arrested for being quote the baddest bitch on Earth and
- 8:21slang 24/7. Now a lot of users have found
- 8:25this marketing specifically to be a questionable decision given
- 8:29the Kardashians history of black fishing and the disproportionate
- 8:33incarceration of black, brown, and Latin communities in the US.
- 8:37Users actually had similar sentiment toward Tana Mojo's
- 8:40tart collab marketing, which also saw her getting arrested.
- 8:43And I actually don't think that I touched on this when I talked
- 8:46about the tart collab with Tana. Given Tanas tart collab launched
- 8:51basically at the start of ISIS like mass raids across the US,
- 8:56some fans thought that it was an inappropriate time to release a
- 8:59marketing campaign like this. Now campaign aside back to King
- 9:03Kylie, the fact that she's launched a collection like this
- 9:06literally in the exact moment of of the 2016 nostalgia revival is
- 9:10very on the pulse for Kylie because literally for years
- 9:14Kylie cosmetics has followed trends not set them, which is
- 9:19really not how the brand started.
- 9:21And when I say followed them, I mean sometimes like years too
- 9:24late like she was launching liquid blushes 10 trend cycles
- 9:29behind Rd. rare beauty like all the major celebrity beauty
- 9:33brands. I think that's a huge reason why
- 9:35Kylie Cosmetics has fallen off. I mean, aside from the actual
- 9:39association with the Kardashians and Kylie's name in general, I
- 9:42think if she had maybe named it something else, it could have
- 9:44had a bit more longevity. But a huge reason of why Kylie
- 9:46Cosmetics has lost a lot of its relevancy is because they just
- 9:50like don't stay up to date. Like 2-3 years later, Kylie
- 9:53Cosmetics is coming out with the products like the Clean Girl
- 9:55products that everybody was launching five years ago when we
- 9:58were all Clean Girl, you know, So the fact that she can get
- 10:01this together so quickly to specifically tap into this like
- 10:05nostalgic moment that is happening in this exact moment
- 10:08in time, time is actually impressive for the brand itself.
- 10:11Okay, the last story that I have for you guys is I need to talk
- 10:14about the couple who traveled to Canada and didn't realize it's
- 10:17not the US. So an American couple on TikTok
- 10:21is going viral for traveling to Canada on a vacation.
- 10:24Specifically, I think they went to Montreal and they made a
- 10:27video talking about how the wife didn't realize that Canada was a
- 10:30different country to the US until they missed their flight
- 10:34because it was an international flight and they didn't get to
- 10:37the gate early enough. So we just made it in Canada and
- 10:41I just want to show you guys a few things that I've seen thus
- 10:43far in Canada or experiences were in Canada.
- 10:46First and foremost, I did not know that this is an
- 10:48international flight until I missed my flight today.
- 10:54They literally closed the boarding an hour prior to the
- 10:57flight. In the video, she also named
- 11:01some stuff that was different about Canada, like the fact that
- 11:04we use kilometers instead of miles and that everything is
- 11:08both in English and French. We do have two official
- 11:11languages. Everything is both in English
- 11:14and French, a cereal box, both English, French, a sign, a road
- 11:17sign, English, French, all of it.
- 11:19Especially if you're in Montreal, like you're lucky
- 11:21you're actually getting English in Montreal.
- 11:23So they got so much backlash that they turn the comments off
- 11:26and made a follow up video. But instead of being like, oh,
- 11:30joking or like sorry or like whatever, I don't know, people
- 11:33kind of thought that maybe they were joking.
- 11:35They basically doubled down on the fact that it's fine that she
- 11:38didn't know Canada's a completely different country
- 11:40from the United States, and said what do you expect us to do,
- 11:44like research where we're traveling?
- 11:46Like that's basically what they said.
- 11:48Obviously, my baby here, they know that Canada wasn't part of
- 11:52the US and that's fine. You know, we've been in the
- 11:55United States for a very long time and coming to a whole
- 11:59different country was very different.
- 12:02And we've seen a lot of differences being in America and
- 12:05also being here. So we weren't trying to bash
- 12:09Canada in the 1st place. Obviously we're not by the go.
- 12:14Type in. Oh, let me search up some facts
- 12:16about Canada before I go. Search up oh, what's the metric
- 12:19system or do they have a Walgreens or do they have no.
- 12:22So when I'm searching up oh, what's the nearest like
- 12:24drugstore and Walgreens is not popping up or CVS is which the
- 12:28ones that I know you guys should understand like oh, OK.
- 12:32What's interesting about this TikTok is it's gone beyond
- 12:35Canadian algorithms and US algorithms and the rest of the
- 12:38world is now seeing this TikTok and questioning a if it's
- 12:42propaganda since obviously there were a lot of threats from the
- 12:45Trump administration at the start of the year about the US
- 12:48forcibly annexing Canada. And there are also questions
- 12:52about if this is rage bait. However, if you look at any of
- 12:55the commentary videos and the comment sections of those
- 12:57commentary videos about this particular moment, you will see
- 13:01thousands of Canadians with whom I agree with who believe no.
- 13:04Like this is actually just how a lot of the United States looks
- 13:07at Canada. It's just like they're
- 13:09irrelevant, little sister. I don't think it's propaganda.
- 13:12I don't think it's Rage Bay. I think it's real.
- 13:14I think they genuinely did not know that Canada is a different
- 13:17country. They didn't realize we would
- 13:19have our own government, our own currency, our own languages.
- 13:22They didn't realize any of that. I do truly believe that.
- 13:26And there is one comment that's going super viral.
- 13:27Like I said, they turned off the comments section.
- 13:29But before they did that, someone had screenshotted this
- 13:32comments exchange. So someone wrote, are the
- 13:34schools closed in the United States?
- 13:36And then the couple responded, you thought you ate the US
- 13:39doesn't teach about Canada, sweetie.
- 13:41And then the person responded, that is very clear.
- 13:45So in the comments section of other videos about this
- 13:48particular couple, people are just putting that screenshot.
- 13:52It's become like a meme in and of itself.
- 13:54It's like taken on a life of its own.
- 13:55That comment exchange. Anyways, that's it for me to
- 13:58scroll today guys. Thank you so much for listening.
- 14:00I love you guys. Please rate review and
- 14:02subscribe. Please Spotify star rate US and
- 14:06I will talk to you guys tomorrow.
- 14:08Bye.
