- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on all?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of the Checko Daly Andrew decheco
- 0:14Speaker 2: here Egos beat reporter friendsidethebirds dot Com.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The NFC East.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Preview series rolls on with the Washington Commanders and I'm
- 0:23Speaker 2: going to take a look at where they stand after
- 0:26Speaker 2: a couple weeks into free agency. And so, if you
- 0:29Speaker 2: remember back to last season, there was a lot of
- 0:31Speaker 2: optimism surrounding the Commanders because they made that deep postseason
- 0:36Speaker 2: run got to the NFC title game, but we're not
- 0:39Speaker 2: quite ready to make that leap, and there was a
- 0:42Speaker 2: lot of eyes on the Commanders as to what they
- 0:44Speaker 2: were going to do entering the twenty twenty five season
- 0:48Speaker 2: and if they were going to be able to build
- 0:49Speaker 2: on that. But they went really old in terms of
- 0:52Speaker 2: their free agent signings, and the team went from being
- 0:56Speaker 2: this youth infused, talented team with some upside to being
- 0:59Speaker 2: this veteran leaden team. They had a lot of questions
- 1:03Speaker 2: as to whether or not they were going to be
- 1:04Speaker 2: able to live up to expectations. And I will go
- 1:08Speaker 2: on the record saying that I believe that the Commanders
- 1:11Speaker 2: were going to be more of a force in the
- 1:12Speaker 2: nfcas than they were last season. There were reasons for
- 1:16Speaker 2: that based off of how things transpired, But let's go
- 1:20Speaker 2: through some of the pieces that.
- 1:22Speaker 1: They've added and where they stand there.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Because I really liked the addition of a Dafeoway who
- 1:28Speaker 2: comes over in free agency.
- 1:30Speaker 1: They signed him to a big contract.
- 1:32Speaker 2: He's going to be called upon to front their pass
- 1:35Speaker 2: rush and compliment what they have there in Dorince Armstrong,
- 1:40Speaker 2: who they re signed. They have Deron Pain and Javon
- 1:43Speaker 2: Kinlaw at tackle, so their mainstays there. They also brought
- 1:46Speaker 2: over Klaven Chason from the New England Patriots and free agency.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I like Chason.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I'm not sure that he's an every down player, but
- 1:54Speaker 2: at Dafa Aoway, I look at what he was able
- 1:58Speaker 2: to do earlier in his career and it left a
- 2:00Speaker 2: lot to be desired. There is flashes, but it wasn't
- 2:04Speaker 2: consistent enough for me, at least to warrant the payday
- 2:08Speaker 2: that he got in free agency. But that's the nature
- 2:10Speaker 2: of free agency. You try to find different pieces swing
- 2:14Speaker 2: for upside, and that's the going right for pass rushers
- 2:17Speaker 2: on the open market. You saw Jalen Phillips and you
- 2:20Speaker 2: can kind of go down the line. Players get paid
- 2:22Speaker 2: a little bit more than they ordinarily would because of
- 2:25Speaker 2: the demands, and so at Dafeoway, Calavin Chase on they
- 2:30Speaker 2: will be there to provide pass rush support. Leo Chanel
- 2:35Speaker 2: is a linebacker who comes over from the Kansas City Chiefs,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and I thought that he was one of the more
- 2:40Speaker 2: accomplished linebackers on the open market. Made a lot of
- 2:43Speaker 2: sense for the Commanders to get him. I'm not overly
- 2:46Speaker 2: enthused with their linebacking situation prior to that because they
- 2:50Speaker 2: had Frankie Louvu. They still have Frankie Louvu, but he's
- 2:53Speaker 2: more of a player that I think he leaves a
- 2:57Speaker 2: little bit to be desired when it comes to range.
- 3:00Speaker 2: He's more of a downhill thumper. I think he's made
- 3:02Speaker 2: some explosive plays in his career.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But a little bit limited.
- 3:07Speaker 2: And adding someone like Leo Chanelle who can rush the passer,
- 3:11Speaker 2: he can cover a little bit more ground than Frankie Louvery.
- 3:13Speaker 1: They should be able to in theory compliment each other.
- 3:15Speaker 2: They also have Jordan McGhee, who was a fifth round
- 3:18Speaker 2: pick in twenty twenty four out of Temple.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I was at his pro day.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I talked to him quite a bit I talked to
- 3:22Speaker 2: him at the NFL scouting combine.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I like his game.
- 3:26Speaker 2: He has never really ascended to anything more than a
- 3:29Speaker 2: depth piece, but immensely athletic, and it will be a
- 3:31Speaker 2: really good depth piece there. And then they in the secondary,
- 3:38Speaker 2: you have Trey Amos, who was a second round pick
- 3:40Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five, six foot two.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I like his length.
- 3:43Speaker 2: He gives you a building block to work with. But
- 3:46Speaker 2: they added a couple of pieces that I really like.
- 3:49Speaker 2: In safety. Nick Cross who's twenty four years old. He
- 3:52Speaker 2: comes over from the Indianapolis Colts. Gives you athleticism, some
- 3:56Speaker 2: big playability.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I think he can cover a lot of.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Ground in the middle of that secondary and give you
- 4:03Speaker 2: some athleticism there.
- 4:04Speaker 1: He'll pair with Will Harris.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They also have Kwan Martin, who they drafted in the
- 4:08Speaker 2: second round in twenty twenty three. Jeremy Reeves is there.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He's more of a special teamer, but he can help
- 4:14Speaker 2: you on defense. Former Eagles rookie free agent signing back
- 4:17Speaker 2: in twenty eighteen out of South Alabama. By the way,
- 4:21Speaker 2: Mike Sammers still is going to be the one corner.
- 4:23Speaker 2: He doesn't have the prototypical size at five foot ten
- 4:26Speaker 2: but you're talking about one of the more intelligent corners,
- 4:29Speaker 2: one of the more instinctual corners in the NFL, one
- 4:31Speaker 2: of my favorite corners to watch. But he does leave
- 4:34Speaker 2: a little bit of concern when it comes to the
- 4:39Speaker 2: body type and the frame. I always thought that he
- 4:41Speaker 2: made more sense as a nickel corner, but as it is,
- 4:44Speaker 2: the Commanders have him starting outside. But they did add
- 4:48Speaker 2: a nickel corner in an underrated signing in Amik Robertson,
- 4:52Speaker 2: who comes over from the Lions. He's only five foot eight,
- 4:54Speaker 2: but man, when you talk about someone like an Upton Stout,
- 4:58Speaker 2: he kind of reminds me a little bit of up
- 5:00Speaker 2: In Stout, smaller physical, He'll fly around, he's not opposed
- 5:07Speaker 2: to tackling in open space. And you talk about someone
- 5:11Speaker 2: with good short area of quickness and a high level
- 5:13Speaker 2: football IQ. Amik Robertson is that player and he fits
- 5:17Speaker 2: in well there. But they are an undersized secondary with
- 5:20Speaker 2: the exception of Amos in terms of their cornerbacks. And
- 5:25Speaker 2: I should also mention that while we were talking about
- 5:27Speaker 2: the pass rush, Charles Amenihew comes over from the Kansas
- 5:31Speaker 2: City Chiefs as well, so he'll provide some depth there.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And he's played a lot of football in his career. Then,
- 5:36Speaker 2: on the offensive side of the ball, they still have
- 5:39Speaker 2: a lot of work to do it a wide receiver,
- 5:40Speaker 2: they have Terry mclauren. Treylon Burks is signed. Luke McCaffery
- 5:45Speaker 2: is their slot receiver. They drafted him in the third
- 5:47Speaker 2: round in twenty twenty four. They have for depth pieces
- 5:51Speaker 2: Van Jefferson and Diami Brown.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Diammy Brown was.
- 5:54Speaker 2: With the Commanders if you remember then he went to
- 5:57Speaker 2: Jacksonville and he's back with the Commanders. Van Jefferson comes
- 6:01Speaker 2: over from the Tennessee Titans. Their offensive line is pretty solid.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Laramie Tunsel manning that left tackle spot. Josh Connerley, who
- 6:10Speaker 2: they drafted in the first round last year, is their
- 6:13Speaker 2: right tackle, the guard's left guard Chris Paul and right
- 6:17Speaker 2: guard Sam Cosmier. Solid center is interesting to me because
- 6:22Speaker 2: I'm not necessarily sold on Nick ali Ghretti, and I'm
- 6:27Speaker 2: not exactly sure how he really fits into the equation.
- 6:30Speaker 2: There's some questions that I have as it pertains to
- 6:34Speaker 2: his long term viability as their center.
- 6:37Speaker 1: But I think that they I thought that they were
- 6:41Speaker 1: going to be in the market.
- 6:43Speaker 2: For Tyler Linderbaum, and I'm sure that they probably thought
- 6:47Speaker 2: that they were, but it just didn't happen. Look, they
- 6:50Speaker 2: released Biadis their center, and it seemed like they had
- 6:55Speaker 2: a contingency plan in place, and I thought for sure
- 6:57Speaker 2: that Linderbaum would be in play.
- 7:00Speaker 1: They were not able to get him.
- 7:02Speaker 2: And look, Alligretti's always played eight games at center and
- 7:06Speaker 2: he's been playing for seven seasons. I think that you
- 7:10Speaker 2: probably want to draft the center there and compete with
- 7:13Speaker 2: him to give you a little bit more of a
- 7:16Speaker 2: depth of a depth answer and maybe push Allegretty for
- 7:20Speaker 2: a starting job. But aside from that, I think their
- 7:22Speaker 2: offensive line is solid and that's what they really need
- 7:25Speaker 2: to protect young Jaden Daniels, who is immensely talented, but
- 7:29Speaker 2: he gets hurt quite a bit. He doesn't have the
- 7:31Speaker 2: build to withstand some of those punishing hits that you
- 7:35Speaker 2: see defenders lay on him, and I think long term
- 7:37Speaker 2: you have those concerns. But I really like Jayden Daniels,
- 7:40Speaker 2: who's my favorite quarterback coming out of that draft class,
- 7:43Speaker 2: and I think he's just scratching the surface.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But the best ability is availability, and that's.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Something that has plagued Jadeen Daniels early in his career.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But the receiver situation is something that they have to
- 7:56Speaker 2: address because Terry McLaurin is a solid player, He's been
- 8:00Speaker 2: a mainstay for them for a number of seasons. Alec
- 8:03Speaker 2: Pierce or Romeo Dobbs would have been a really good fit.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Alec Pierce signs with the Colts and Romeo Dobbs goes
- 8:09Speaker 2: to New England Patriots. And they've really really able to
- 8:11Speaker 2: get some rotational pieces in Dianie Brown and Van Jefferson.
- 8:15Speaker 2: So I wouldn't be surprised if they look to target
- 8:17Speaker 2: wide receiver early. I wouldn't be surprised if they look
- 8:20Speaker 2: to target edge rusher early. Another position would be corner,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and I look at Avion Terrell probably gonna be a
- 8:28Speaker 2: little bit more of a later.
- 8:29Speaker 1: First round pick.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Maybe it's a Monsieur Delaine out of LSU who I
- 8:36Speaker 2: think would be a really good fit there and could
- 8:39Speaker 2: be in play in the first round.
- 8:41Speaker 1: But this Washington Commander's team.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Is going to need some help there on that defensive
- 8:46Speaker 2: side to really help solidify and give them more athleticism
- 8:51Speaker 2: and youth to and guys who can flow to the football.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Their running back situation also leaves a lot to be desired.
- 8:58Speaker 2: They have a lot of pieces, but I view them
- 9:00Speaker 2: more as second and third rotational running backs and Rashad White,
- 9:05Speaker 2: Jerome Ford, Jeremy McNichols. They have a Bill Krofsky merit
- 9:13Speaker 2: as well, but those are second and third running backs.
- 9:17Speaker 2: You don't have that headliner, which could potentially put Jeremiah
- 9:21Speaker 2: Love in play, because I think Jeremiah Love will completely
- 9:25Speaker 2: aid in transforming that offense and give them way more
- 9:28Speaker 2: balance than they have, take a little bit of pressure
- 9:30Speaker 2: off Jayden Daniels in that passing attack. But aside from that,
- 9:35Speaker 2: I think that you could see them potentially target running
- 9:37Speaker 2: back in the draft. But overall, I think this is
- 9:42Speaker 2: an intriguing Commander's team. I like what they've done in
- 9:45Speaker 2: free agency. I still think there are ways away from
- 9:48Speaker 2: being a viable contender in the NFC East, but as
- 9:52Speaker 2: you heard when I was talking about the Dallas Cowboys,
- 9:56Speaker 2: I mean the NFC East is starting to add talent
- 10:01Speaker 2: and I believe that in a year or two you
- 10:03Speaker 2: could see a much more competitive division. I like what
- 10:08Speaker 2: the Commanders have done in bringing in Deronte Jones to
- 10:11Speaker 2: be their defensive coordinator. I mentioned his background in the
- 10:14Speaker 2: past where he was the defensive backs coach and pass
- 10:16Speaker 2: game coreidator for the Vikings, and I think, kind of
- 10:21Speaker 2: like with Christian Parker, you're going to see Deronte Jones
- 10:23Speaker 2: bring in a defensive back mindset where yes, he has
- 10:28Speaker 2: to focus on the entire defense, but I do believe
- 10:30Speaker 2: that you're going to see a lot more attention to
- 10:33Speaker 2: detail on the back end, maybe some more resources invested
- 10:37Speaker 2: in the defensive backfield, which reminds me, well, I should say,
- 10:42Speaker 2: which kind of drives home the point that I was
- 10:44Speaker 2: talking about that maybe they look at corner and a
- 10:46Speaker 2: Monsieur de Laine from LSU. Maybe it's a it's an
- 10:50Speaker 2: I don't know that they would go safety because they
- 10:52Speaker 2: just signed Nick Cross and they have Kwan Martin who
- 10:55Speaker 2: they drafted, so they have enough guys.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They have enough guys there, but corner is a need.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I would say that pass rusher is a need for them,
- 11:06Speaker 2: and really just solidify that defensive line in general. But
- 11:10Speaker 2: those are the immediate needs that pop out to me.
- 11:13Speaker 2: They've done some things to draft proof the roster so
- 11:15Speaker 2: that they can go into it not having to feel
- 11:18Speaker 2: like they need.
- 11:18Speaker 1: To reach on a certain position. But that's where I
- 11:21Speaker 1: stand on defense.
- 11:22Speaker 2: On offense, they need to add another compliment to Terry McLaren.
- 11:26Speaker 2: He's sort of been a one man band there in
- 11:27Speaker 2: the receiving game. Chiga Conkwo comes over to help as
- 11:31Speaker 2: a tight end. But aside from that, you do need
- 11:35Speaker 2: to add the robin to Terry McLaren's batman. I do
- 11:39Speaker 2: think Chigakonkuo is going to help the middle of the
- 11:41Speaker 2: field be a resource for Jayden Daniels in that short
- 11:46Speaker 2: to intermediate level. They can find creative ways to get
- 11:49Speaker 2: him the football, and that, to me, was one of
- 11:52Speaker 2: the more savvy additions. When you're trying to help a
- 11:54Speaker 2: young quarterback, you want to bring in a versatile, multifaceted
- 11:57Speaker 2: pass catcher, and Chiga Conkwo is certainly that.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Hey, if you're like me, you're desensitized to the dozens
- 12:03Speaker 3: of notifications on your phone every day. But if that
- 12:07Speaker 3: latest ping is from your security camera, ignoring it could
- 12:10Speaker 3: spell disaster. Picture this, someone's breaking into your home. But
- 12:13Speaker 3: you're giving a huge presentation at work, or you're at
- 12:16Speaker 3: the movies, or you're thirty thousand feet in the sky
- 12:18Speaker 3: on a flight. You'll see the footage in a couple hours,
- 12:21Speaker 3: but by then it's too late. That's why I choose
- 12:23Speaker 3: simply Safe. Simply Safe is a customizable whole home security

- 12:35Speaker 1: Listen.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Traditional security alarm systems they only act after someone has
- 12:39Speaker 3: already broken in, but that's too late. Simply Safe's active
- 12:42Speaker 3: guard outdoor protection can help prevent break ins before they happen.

- 13:21Speaker 3: game day is stressful enough, parking traffic, long lines. We've

- 13:28Speaker 3: Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is the dispensary for
- 13:33Speaker 3: sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly, with plenty of

- 14:09Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros canned in Apothecary. Top quality cannabis,
- 14:15Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 14:18Speaker 3: one and up.
- 14:21Speaker 2: So I don't hate the Commander's offseason by any stretch.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Now I'm curious to see where they go in the
- 14:28Speaker 2: draft to continue to develop it, but I think that
- 14:31Speaker 2: Adam Peters has done a nice job. With the exception
- 14:34Speaker 2: of last season, they invested a little bit more than
- 14:37Speaker 2: I would expect Javon Kinlaw to make on the open market,
- 14:41Speaker 2: and overall, they were just a little long in the
- 14:43Speaker 2: tooth and that really revealed itself last season. But I
- 14:48Speaker 2: do want to get to some contract updates as we
- 14:51Speaker 2: pivot from the Commanders, and I put a button on
- 14:54Speaker 2: this podcast because we have some numbers as they pertain
- 14:58Speaker 2: to the Eagles.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Hollywood Brown signs.
- 15:01Speaker 2: A one year six point five million max value, five
- 15:04Speaker 2: million base value five million, five million fully guaranteed with
- 15:09Speaker 2: a three point seven million signing bonus, So that's an
- 15:13Speaker 2: update on the numbers for him. With running back Damian Pierce,
- 15:16Speaker 2: he gets a one year one point two nine million,
- 15:19Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty thousand fully guaranteed salary. And Bradon
- 15:25Speaker 2: Mann his contract four years, fifteen million, eight million guaranteed,
- 15:30Speaker 2: seven million fully guaranteed, one million injured injury guaranteed and
- 15:35Speaker 2: a two point two eight million signing bonus, a two
- 15:40Speaker 2: point one five to five million option bonus, a two
- 15:43Speaker 2: point one one million second option bonus, and those are
- 15:49Speaker 2: I'm sure that there were some curious folks out there
- 15:51Speaker 2: as to what the numbers were going to bear out,
- 15:53Speaker 2: because they're not immediately available after the players signed, so
- 15:56Speaker 2: I know that sometimes I'll get questions on that, but
- 15:59Speaker 2: just had a little clarity here. Also, defensive back Jonathan
- 16:03Speaker 2: Jones signs a one year, two million, five hundred thousand
- 16:07Speaker 2: signing bonus two million fully guaranteed. So those are the
- 16:11Speaker 2: updates over the Eagles' most recent signings. I mentioned that
- 16:15Speaker 2: Andy Dalton, he is, you know, expected to make three
- 16:19Speaker 2: point nine million this year with two million guaranteed.
- 16:22Speaker 1: The Eagles gave up a pick for him.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So those are some updates as to some of the
- 16:27Speaker 2: new faces on this Eagles roster and some interesting names there,
- 16:33Speaker 2: some really interesting names there, and we'll see how everything
- 16:37Speaker 2: starts to pan out, because the Draft is fast approaching.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Pro Days are going to.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Soon be winding down, and then once you get to April,
- 16:45Speaker 2: it's almost like a sprint to the finish line. And
- 16:47Speaker 2: that finish line is April twenty third, where the NFL
- 16:51Speaker 2: Draft kicks off, and the Eagles have an awful lot
- 16:53Speaker 2: of AMMO from which to operate with. And that's a
- 16:57Speaker 2: good place. That's a position of strength. If you're Howie Roseman,
- 17:00Speaker 2: that's gonna do it. For this edition of the Checko Daily.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I'm Andrew Decheco and I will catch you all on
- 17:06Speaker 2: the next one.
