- Nolan: Welcome back to the podcast ladies and gentlemen you are here with the boys of Poy and Soy on our post credit segment. Post credit is a segment where we go through movies, TV, entertainment, and all the good stuff in between. I am your co-host Nolan Chang and with me as always is my long time friend and co-host Jalen Holston. Say what's up to the crowd. Jesus: ⁓ It's Friday baby, we made it. ⁓ Nolan: Get get get get get get As you can see we're feeling the weekend as it is as As it is arrived on our doorsteps and we're here to claim it take advantage of it and treat it out to dinner consensually ⁓ We have got a good little handful of things we're going to discuss today. But before we get to all that, we got to give a big shout out to our partners at W Energy, our favorite energy supplement, coming in powdered form, whether it's, you know, going to the gym, going to the office, working out. ⁓ running errands or you just, you just need to pick me up to get you through the day. Debbie's got your back. It'll, it'll cover everything you need it to. ⁓ so go to w dot Gigi or the app, Debbie energy and use the promo code points. So I P O I N S O Y for 10 % off your order. Not only supporting them as a business, you're supporting us as content creators and we appreciate you all for it. Did it. ⁓ Had to get it going. Jalen, how you doing on this fine Friday? Jesus: blow it out mate, scare it all out of your cat. Alright. ⁓ fantastic, man. Just another beautiful day in the neighborhood. We're out here vibing. You know, it was a good week of content. Had some of the boy stuff go down. Had the Punisher special. And a week from today, we'll have the Mandalorian and Grogu hitting theaters nationwide, worldwide, some would say. So, gonna be a good time. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm. And to be determined if it will be as successful as its predecessor Star Wars IPs in theaters. Jesus: Uhhhh Nolan: but we will discuss it in a bit on this segment so you know hold on to your hats we'll get to it ⁓ we do have a few news nuggets and then a few trailers that we're reviewing and maybe a little bit of a shorter segment today so you know i know you guys love us and want us to talk forever and ever but it's sometimes just not in the cards and and this is what we do so ⁓ yeah exactly but let's get this thing rolling we're gonna start off with something you know as we like to ease into everything as always grown-ups three we are Jesus: On the cuts, sometimes there's a drop in content, but it happens man. Nolan: love Adam Sandler, do we love all the movies he makes? The jury's still out. ⁓ But apparently they are moving forward with Grown Ups 3. ⁓ Obviously releasing on Netflix, don't think anyone's gonna go in theaters to watch this or it just won't make its money back if we're being completely honest. ⁓ My understanding is that it is the return of the the main cast including David Spade, Rob Schneider, Jesus: Yes. Yeah, now. Nolan: Kevin James, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler. If I read it correctly, I believe the information said that it's going to be about this group of guys who is going to be going overseas to, I think, bury their friend or spread their ashes. And it's just a matter of them kind of showing that these 60 something year olds, you know, they still got some life in them. They're down to party, whether it's like party or just down to be friends. I don't know. But Jalen. What your thoughts on them doing this? You know, Adam Sandler has them in a chokehold somehow of just being like, you give me some money, I'm going to make some dogshit films, but for fun. They don't. don't. They don't. Because because regardless, if you're interested in this movie or not, when it first releases, I guarantee you there's going to be a day where you get home, you got dinner, you probably picked up some Panda Express, who knows, you sitting there in front of the TV and you're just, what can we watch? I'm not looking for anything deep. Jesus: And Netflix doesn't care. They need the subscribers. They don't care. Who's to say? Nolan: thought-provoking ⁓ Adam Sandler grown-ups 3 right up my alley ⁓ that's where this movie falls you know but do you think that this is gonna be a good follow-up to its predecessors Jesus: Sounds beautiful. possibly, potentially, I don't know, it'll be a movie of all time. It'll be something that is out and real and happening. I mean, it can't be that bad. I enjoyed the sequel to Happy Gilmore. I thought that was a good time. Definitely had some beats that I wasn't expecting and it still hit all the things that I would expect an Adam Sandler movie to hit. So who's to say that they can't do that for this? But yeah, if he's gonna go down the rabbit hole of all his old IPs, I say go for it, bro. You're Adam Sandler. You do whatever you want, Nolan: Yeah, you're the Sandman. ⁓ I mean, the world needs more comedies. Let's be clear about that. I do think the art of the comedy has kind of been lost in the world of Hollywood. ⁓ For better or for worse, know, there's some that are much more... What's the right word I'm gonna say? Jesus: The Sandman, Sandalia, someone said. Yes. Yes. Nolan: There's some that are more by design politically correct because they know they can't dip their toes in too deep of the water, right? Which is why we are very excited about Scary Movie 6 coming out because it'll be a return to form of no holds bar, I'm coming for your throat, we're gonna ruffle some feathers, you know what I mean? Jesus: Yes. Yeah, for sure. Yes, need that. Nolan: Adam Sandler kinda toes that line because he's Adam Sandler and he likes to play some fun at some certain things so it would be like random little jabs here and there. But do you agree that it just seems... He is kind of that last transitional comedian from what we remember as the 90s era of comedy to what we have now as the 2020 era of comedy. Jesus: I would agree. think there's definitely a solid through line of like, he is that kind of bridge between like that mid 90s comedy where everything was really kind of starting to get a little bit edgy. ⁓ into the early 2000s when we got like scary movies and all that other kind of stuff and more like the Rated R comedy stuff, National Lampoon with American Pie, et cetera, you know? ⁓ So I think him kind of getting back into it, putting out some good content of that kind of middle ground comedy where there's definitely gonna be some stuff that goes over like a kid's head, but it's not gonna go over the adult's head. And there's like the earnestness that he is always able to bring with his movies, right? That sense of like real levity to all of his pictures. There's a really good message in there. It's usually somewhat family-oriented. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: So ⁓ I think kind of getting back into his bag in that realm, I'm always gonna be a fan of that for Adam Sandler. So we'll see what he does with The Grown Ups 3. The first two were always good. They're not like, you know, home, like, you know, cinema or anything, but they are very good films and they have good family messages and you can't really go wrong whenever you put one on, you know? Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly, exactly. And I don't think the thought is lost on Adam Sandler of where his movies kind of stand in the rankings of movies, but he does it for him. He does it for his friends. ⁓ I wish one day I was in that position where I could just be like, yo guys, you want to go away for three months and just film this movie with me for shits and giggles? We'll go to Italy. Let's just fuck it, you know, whatever. But yeah, Grown Ups 3 coming to Netflix. Jesus: Right, right. Wouldn't that be lovely? Nolan: what you guys think about Adam Sandler with his third installment of the franchise. Next news nugget. Reacher Season 5 has been renewed before the premiere of Season 4. Now Reacher took the world by storm kind of putting Alan Richson on the map of being this this action hero if you will. ⁓ He he for those who are longtime followers of Alan Richson Jesus: Hmm. Yes. Nolan: He did a lot of comedy. He did a lot of kind of young adult things. ⁓ He was a part of the Hunger Games movies. ⁓ Clearly, you know, he was Aquaman way back in the day for Smallville, which was kind of like it wasn't true action hero stuff, but he had his fun there. He was a part of Blue Mountain State, which was just purely comedy, but was definitely something that kind of also brought him into the eyes of people at home. ⁓ But Richard did something different for his career completely. He definitely showed that he has a different side to 1 his acting ability and 2 how massive and powerful a human being can look on screen. ⁓ Like this dude is just jacked and for those of you who follow along on his Instagram and social media in general, boy boy knock Jesus: Hehehehehe Nolan: out his neighbor like in in real life in real life he said you are not going to try to hurt me in front of my children i don't care if you don't like my dirt bikes get down eat some grass bite the curb um he he he definitely uh and you know ever the world was behind him because it was not his fault he did not initiate the the aggression um that being said it's good to know that the actor playing reacher Jesus: ⁓ my god. on that. Nolan: can back up his stuff. And I'm very excited that that Amazon Prime is going to be renewing for season five, because I think this the series is very great. And it shows good people doing good things beating up the bad guys because they're bad people. I get it's just clear cut. There's no lost nuance in what this show is giving you. It's clear. No, there's no fluff. Exactly. It's from episode one to episode eight. I'm here to beat up the bad guys and do right by my people as well as those who can't help themselves. ⁓ So I'm very excited to see what season four has. I think that shows that they have a lot of trust in what this next season is going to bring, that the fact that they're already renewed for season five before the premiere. ⁓ Jalen, your thoughts? Jesus: It's no fluff. We're not messing around, you know? I love it. I think that's a good sign for them, obviously, Porter. ⁓ I think it's always, it's one of those things where it's like when something's really good, I feel like we should definitely celebrate it as, you know, a set of fans and media people. And clearly that says the studio is very much liking what they've already seen. So like, if anything, it should tell you how good this season's gonna be, the third one, like that's gonna, or the fourth one, it's gonna be absolutely insane. So. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: ⁓ It also could mean that might be nearing its end. That's also a reality, right? Sometimes you get the end of a certain run of stories. Right, right, right. We know, we know, we know. Come on. Come on, you clever girl. ⁓ So that's also a reality too, is like sometimes actors wanna branch out and do other things. It happens all the time, especially as they get more popular with a certain brand. So ⁓ definitely. Nolan: Yeah. Cause we all know Ellen Richard's gonna go off and be Batman. We know, we know. Come on, we know James Gunn. We see what you're doing here. Jesus: Don't overlook it for sure, but it's a very, very, very good sign at the end of the day that we are in for a treat, we are in for something real and ⁓ kind of grounded. So I expect it to be very, very good overall. So yeah, we'll see. But it's nothing but good things that it's already been greenlit. Nothing but good things for Alan Richardson and the crew. So good on them. Nolan: Absolutely. And we will be there week one when the episode's premiere because Reacher, we probably won't review it because Reacher's not necessarily a reviewable show, it's very kind of like... Jesus: Yes. Yes, we will. Nolan: Like we've said, it's cut and dry. It's not like, well, he beat up the bad guy this week, and next week he might beat up another one. So we probably won't review, but we may give our thoughts regarding how the show is. But let us know what you guys think about season five being greenlit and renewed before even the premiere of season four. Next news nugget. Now, this one's a little bit of a confusing one. It... Jesus: Right. A lot of confusing. Nolan: poses the question, why? Why? Why? Why? Why? ⁓ The Fast and the Furious is coming to Peacock as a TV series. Couple things to unpack here. One, no one is subscribed to Peacock. So I think that lets you know exactly one, how long this series will last if it even makes it out the door. And two, Jesus: Why? For the love of God, why? Nolan: Who asked for a Fast and the Furious TV show? Now, exactly. Now, now, now, Now, I had some time, a couple days to mull this over, right? ⁓ One. Jesus: No one. I...was it...did you? I...I didn't...I didn't say a word. In fact, I said I don't want this verbally. Nolan: Fast and Furious franchise, for whatever thoughts you think about it, has been one the longest movie franchises in the history of Hollywood. So that's that we got to give credit where it's due. We got to give them a flowers. And we have seen the decline in quality and outlandish you know, define the laws of physics in the last two movies, nine and 10, ⁓ where it just seemed like things were just getting a little too crazy. seemed like plot armor was Vin Diesel's middle name. It just didn't make any sense. Yeah. But then I thought about it. Vin Diesel says he's going to be executive producing it. So, you know, there's going to be a underlying tone of family in the movie, in the show, right? We know that we know. Jesus: in plot Armordiesel. Yeah. Nolan: and then it kind of hit me. In the world of TV, streaming services, shows, whatever you want to call it, we don't really have a true boots on the ground, you know. car show, a show that really revolves around cars, because I'm assuming what they're going to do is they're going to return to kind of the street racing scene, how things kind of play out, maybe the day in the life of people who are part of that, how they're getting away from the cops, how they're souping up their engines and modding their cars so that they can win the more races to get more pink slips to win more races. And I thought to myself, that would be exciting. That actually would be something I might be interested in tuning in for. Something that's not too crazy on the budget. Something that's a little more fun. You can kind of get these niche car people maybe involved in the show to make something a little bit more exciting for those who are in that kind of world and realm or interested in how things kind of play out. ⁓ Hopefully it doesn't encourage people to start going to do street racing because that's the last thing we need over in the streets of LA. That's for damn sure. ⁓ Jesus: That'd be neat. Yeah. Hopefully... Hopefully not, yes. Nolan: But I wanted to get your take on it. Now, I will add, originally ⁓ Vin Diesel said that there's gonna be four different shows. Someone fact-checked him and said, no, it's gonna be one show. ⁓ I don't know who to believe. I think we can trust that it's gonna be one show, even though Vin Diesel believes it's gonna be four. ⁓ But Jalen, let me know your thoughts on the whole caboodle of this thing. Jesus: Mm-hmm. I think it is very, very silly. Just beyond the most silly thing I've ever heard in my life. I think we are well past being able to A, you know, just talk about, you know, the Fast and the Furious franchise. It really should have been done after Paul Walker passed away and we did eight. Like that should have been it, you know. I get seven was, you know, you know, to like basically honor Paul and then A was supposed to be, you know, to kind of memorialize him and all that kind of stuff. ⁓ Nolan: Yeah, yeah. You're not wrong on that. Yeah. Jesus: That's really when the franchise died for me personally. ⁓ And I think that's definitely one of those things where as you look more into where they're going now, they've lost the soul of what Tasmith Furies was in that first film, which was just, it completely lost the plot. Because the first movie is just a really cool, it's just a remake of Point Break with cars, that's all it is. And that's what the goal was in... Nolan: They lost the plot. They lost the plot. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, and I ain't even mad at it. Jesus: I'm not even mad at either. It's very, very cut and dry. Like this is literally point break with street racing. And that's what I loved about the first movie. And that's why it worked so well too. That's why it did so many things and gotten the cultural zeitgeist for a while. Like people were like bringing their like souped up cars to go to the theater and watch like there was literal like car shows in these theater parking lots back when that came out. It was so cool. ⁓ Nolan: Mm-hmm. I don't know anything about cars, but you know if I see a car in me, I can appreciate the prettiness of a car. You know what saying? Like I don't know. Jesus: Right? Right? And that's pretty much where it's not really gotten back to that ever since they started doing the superhero stuff and they tried to compete with the Marvel and DC markets. ⁓ And that's where it lost a lot of things. So I think we've got a lot of work to do to kind of recover that with the fan base. If this is really a thing that does get made, I hope maybe somebody steps in and says, hold on, maybe not. Nolan: Yeah. I don't believe you. Jesus: I'm gonna just take this off the schedule and go from there, but we'll see, man, we'll see. Again, nobody asked for this, nobody wanted to do this, and yeah, here we are. Nolan: think it's just way of Vin Diesel realizing that his time is ending in front of the camera. You know what I mean? Like he... like he used to be a very... Jesus: So many, so many ending times. So many, it's over. Nolan: very generous with this word. A respectable actor. his, no, no, like, you know, Find Me Guilty, one of the dramas he did way back in the day. Fantastic film. Yeah, he was boiler room. He had a thing going. Like he was clearly a very, very up and coming actor. And then he just kind of hit cruise control. No pun intended because you know, cars, but he hit cruise control and it just kind of went to duty. So, ⁓ yeah, here we are. Jesus: I mean, he had a work list, right? He had other franchises. Remember the RETIC stuff? LOL Nolan: Fast and Furious, Coming to TV, Peacock. Will this increase the subscription base of Peacock? Probably not, but you know. ⁓ If opportunity arises, I may give it a gander if it officially comes to fruition. ⁓ But let us know what you guys think of the Fast and the Furious TV series coming to Peacock. Most likely not with the original cast returning. ⁓ Probably a brand new wave of young guns. ⁓ Yeah, let us know. Jesus: Just ⁓ yeah, let us know what you're thinking about. It's going through your head. Yeah. Nolan: It's a thing. It's an idea. ⁓ Anyway, the next one. Now we did kind of mention it a little earlier. The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming out mere days away. ⁓ So what we're going to do, this is a Instagram post from a Jesus: Yes. Nolan: movie critic, reviewer, ⁓ also interviewer, one of the best interviewers I would say in the space at this time, Perri Nemeroff, who works for Collider, ⁓ her Instagram post because she did go see the screening in Los Angeles that they held. This is what she said about the Mandalorian and Grogu and we'll read through it together. If I can, ⁓ dear god, this thing is small. Okay, let me, let me just do this real quick. Okay. Jesus: ⁓ ⁓ Well, let me just say this. I recall Perry being very much a straight nose gal. Like she is, she ain't gonna hold back if something ain't good. I'm scared. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She's very, very honest with her reviews. No, it's terrible. The Mandalorian and Grogu. I am just defenseless against Grogu and Anzalyn Joyd-Smiths. Irresistibly cute and also a filmmaking feat I cannot get enough of. Rota the Hutt? Not as much. Live action Hutts are a challenge to pull off, a gladiator Hut even more so, and it didn't help that Rota's dialogue was often too on the nose. He did grow on me, but it feels like there was a more compelling way to convey his place in the world and his mission. Jesus: Hehe! Nolan: A good deal of the visuals are stunners. There's a lengthy oner that I'll be thinking about for a while. When it came to the big action set pieces though, I did prefer the practical and grounded to the digital heavy creature material. For example, the opening of the movie? Fantastic. But some of the creature heavy mayhem felt a bit too muddled to fully appreciate. The personal The Mandalorian of Grogu MVP Ludwig Gorinsson, who's got three Oscars now so this is probably obvious but every production with him on the roster is so lucky to have him. I still cannot get enough of the Mando theme and was energized over and over again as Gorinsson kept working it into the film. The score for Shikari material was especially electrifying. Overall, it's a good time. Not the most cohesive narrative, but still one brimming with the creativity, charm, adventure, and ample opportunities to make the most of the movie magic and cinematic spirit the Star Wars franchise affords. Jesus: Okay, I can get behind that. I like that. That's a good ⁓ sign, I think. Nolan: Yeah, now keep in mind everyone this is social media reactions. don't know if this is technically considered a full review because those are I think held for maybe a couple more days before they actually start releasing all of that stuff online. ⁓ But I think I think it's very clear that there was no glaring. This was terrible. Like it was just was she was being honest. She was nitpicking a couple of things that she didn't find very appealing to her when she went for the viewing she highlighted some things that were clearly great parts of the the set and the production Ludwig Gorinsson ⁓ who did the I believe the score for sinners ⁓ At which he won the Oscar for so that kind of tells you where this the I guess where they can kind of pull the emotion out of whatever scenes that they're doing and Highlighting it in a great way. Jalen your thoughts Jesus: Yeah. Yeah, no big deal by the way. Just casually winning an Oscar. Yeah, that's whatever it is. Yeah, whatever. We'll just do that. That's fine. Jesus, Murphy. ⁓ No, it all sounds like a very fair and honest critique. Again, I still have this sneaking suspicion that when I go next Friday and I go watch The Mandalorian and Grogu, I'm going to say to myself, why did I just go see an episode that was a little bit longer than what I would get on Disney+. Nolan: Yeah, no big deal. Yeah. And then, so you wanna do Star Wars? Come on, man! Yep, yep, I'm with you on that. Jesus: What is the thing that is gonna be so over the top and so crazy that it warranted a theater production of basically the culmination of this story ending, right, between Amanda Laurie and Ingro, because they told us from day one it was supposed to culminate in the film. ⁓ So I have a lot of high expectations. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: Because if you're trying to get me to do something that I can do for free at home, which is watch The Mandalorian and Grogu, I can watch all those seasons, I can watch Book of Bovah Fett, like if I just want to watch The Mandalorian and Grogu, I can do that all the time. What are we pulling in outside of Ridley from Alien, you know what I'm saying, getting a jest cast in there and whatnot, but like. Nolan: Mm-hmm. What are we doing? Jesus: You know, it's got to bring me something. You know, I want to see some kind of penultimate build up because Thrawn's been a big part of Ahsoka. Thrawn was a little bit of a big part of ⁓ the tail end of season three of Mando, but not really. There was kind of a soft intro just for Ahsoka's show and then we got more of him in Ahsoka. ⁓ So like, can we wrap something up here? Is Luke going to be involved in any shape or form or have we completely nixed that whole thing from when we last saw in the Book of Boba Fett? Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: and all those kinds of things. So I know there's some new characters in there. There are a couple new bounty hunters that we did get to see in the trailer that are from like Clone Wars Rebels kind of animation that Dave Filoni of course is gonna bring into live action, because that's what he does. ⁓ But again, what is it? What is the thing in this movie? That's what I'm interested to see. Like what is the thing that is gonna happen where I'm gonna walk out and be like, you know what? Yeah, this was a production film worthy story. ⁓ So hopefully that's what we get. Nolan: What warrants this being a production film? Yeah. Jesus: We'll have to see. We'll have to see, We'll have to see. Nolan: And I know there was a during the trailers and stuff like that We did see a scene where they took off the helmet for been showed Pedro Pascal's face Ironically, I did see the clip that they sent they posted online of that very specific scene I think it kind of gives us a little inkling of how that seems gonna finish ⁓ Took it off. I think they give the helmet to one of the huts Jesus: Oof. That's a yikes. Nolan: And like, it's against your ways to show your face, blah, blah. And Pedro Pascal says, only if I let you leave here alive. And I was like, okay, all right, you know what, you know what, I'm back on board with the scene. I knew you had to take the helmet off for the Pedro Pascal fans, I understand. But you know, I think we see where that one's gonna lead. So Fantastic stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah, come on. You got that Mr. Fantastic, you gotta use his face, right? ⁓ Jesus: Mmm, okay, well. That's right. That's right. You show the money maker a little bit, you know what mean? Gotta keep it honest. Right. Nolan: But yeah, you know, I'm still debating if I want to run to the theaters to see it because it because one it has to be lining up with my coaching schedule and two I got to convince Nicole because she's gonna be like you're going to a movie without me and I'm yeah, know I'll make sure it's something that we both want to see in theaters, which is why I didn't see Michael in theaters to be honest everybody I wanted to haven't been able to so not that we don't love Mikey. We just got a hooch Jesus: Of course. Yeah There. There. So I'm lucky enough that that's Hannah's last week of working in building, so I get a free Scott Pass, which is gonna be too wiped out from the day, so I'm like, I'm so little, I called the boys, we're like, boys, we're good, hit the road, get the tickets. Nolan: Righteous. Righteous. Let's go! Get the razor crest, we're going! But yeah, I'm looking forward to see the more thorough reviews that come out for this film. I'm hoping to hear great things just so that it kind of warrants me making a trip to the theater to see it before it leaves the big screen. But let us know down in the comments below what you guys think of Perry Nemerov's little social media review or reaction if you want to call it. And are you excited to see the movie? The last news nugget we got today, Jalen. The Batman 2. Matt Reeves throws out a flurry of tweets. Yes, I'm calling them tweets. If you want to call them ex posts, do whatever you want. They're tweets. ⁓ They're tweets, people. People. Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: They're tweets. They're tweets. They've never not been tweets. Hate everybody that says they're not a tweet. Just shut up. Shut up, you're wrong. You're stupid and you're wrong. Nolan: Exactly. You're wrong. But he did release a flurry of posts, each one dedicated to an actor or actress with a GIF probably from or GIF, whatever you want to pronounce it. I think it's GIF, but it could be GIF. I'm not going to be the grandma Nazi if you say either one in front of me. I know what you mean. Peanut butter. Jesus: I think it's Jif. I've told Jif. Yes, could be Jif. I don't know. I the peanut butter. Nolan: but each one had a little bit of ⁓ a post for each actor. And this is the list of actors that he showed. ⁓ Robert Pattinson, obviously, as Bruce Wayne, the Batman. Now, I will say some of these are rumored, as you see there. For those of you who are just listening to us, there are the names, and then it puts in parentheses, rumored of who they're cast as. Not that they're rumored to be, and they are confirmed as in the film, but they're rumored to be ⁓ this character. Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne the Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jamie Lawson as Mayor Bella Real, Gil Perez Abraham as Officer Martinez, ⁓ if you don't remember who he is he was the guy who kept saying hi to Bruce Wayne whenever he saw him in the first film. Then here he gets to the rumored parts, Sebastian Stan maybe as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson Jesus: Hmm? Nolan: Maybe as Gilda Dent Charles Dance as Maybe Christopher Dent. Now if you don't know who Charles Dance is, ⁓ he's Papa Lannister from Game of Thrones everybody. Just so yeah yes yes yes. ⁓ Then we get to two other actors. First person I'm not really familiar with him Sebastian Koch or Koch I'm gonna say Koch yeah this sounds more it sounds more Ko Ko Ko Jesus: Mmm. ⁓ yes, ⁓ yes, yes good shout, good shout. Coke? Nolan: You know that could go really wrong. I'm sorry if I mispronounce your name as a phallic Yeah, I'm so sorry Sebastian ⁓ But we don't know what his role will be or the rumored role and then Brian Tyree Henry ⁓ If you guys are not familiar with Brian Tyree Henry, he was in the Eternals as I think Festus Festus Festus ⁓ He's been in a lot of things. I think he was in Atlanta Jesus: Coke? Perhaps. That went so wrong. Jesus, Murphy. Mm-hmm. Yes. Nolan: He's been in some roles here and there. He's a really great actor. I'm really excited that he's being brought into this world. Who he's playing? I don't know. So those are the last two unrumored character actor characters. ⁓ Jalen, you see this list. What are your thoughts? Where do think this is leading? What is the plotline in your humble opinion? Jesus: You I don't know plot line wise what's going on, but it does sound like we're getting into more of the higher ups of the Gotham Crime Network. If we're going maybe doing, you know, Two-Face kind of stuff and all that good jazz, like there's gonna be some good inner workings. All I'm asking for is that we do authentically connect it to Penguin, because that was a pretty big show for everybody involved, you know what I mean? I don't think the, I don't think What's Her Nuts is... Nolan: Mm-hmm. Banger. Jesus: listed as a cast member for Batman Part 2 that I know of potentially. Like she's not supposed to be in it. Yeah, not Zoe. Her or the Christina gal from ⁓ The Penguin. Yeah, so I don't think either of them are listed in it, neither is Colin Farrell. So I think that might just be out the window, but I do hope there is some sort of tie-in to it, like an authentic one, because there's no way that the way The Penguin ends that like... Nolan: ⁓ Zoe Kravitz? Yeah, I don't believe she's returning. ⁓ Christine Miliotti, yeah. Jesus: We're not talking about that in the next movie, bro. There's no way we're skipping over that. Also that, Jesus Murphy, justice for Victor. But all that being said, think it could be Court of Owls seed planting. That'd be a cool way to end a trilogy for Pattinson, because I think that would be a very culminative for an early year one Batman, but usually that storyline happens later. We can amend it, it's a movie, no one really cares, it's all good, as long as it makes sense, right? Nolan: Yeah, justice for Victor, okay? Yeah, exactly, exactly. Jesus: But for early on Batman, I think just maybe doing a straight up, you we just do Two-Face, focus on Two-Face and go from there. That'd be a good storyline too. ⁓ The Batman worked because it was very tight. Like there wasn't a lot of deviating from who the main villain was. We didn't add too many in there to distract from what the core of the main story was for that. So I think keeping in that same theme, focusing on maybe just Two-Face in this movie. will be really good. I hope we don't go too far to try to expand his universe that we have established in like the Reeves of Batmanverse. So that's what I'm hoping at least for part two. I also hope that maybe we still get to see, you know, an expansion of like, me personally, think superheroes, you tell the most by how they evolutionize their suits in all the movies. So I think seeing the kind of tattered, broken, very like, I made this in my garage style suit from the first film. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: maybe graduating it up to something more formal that we're used to seeing. Less tactical, a little bit more superhero would be cool, but I could also see them sticking on theme as well. So we'll see what all that kind of does. Because that says a lot for Bruce's character too, that he's getting better at being Batman, the better his suit looks and all that kind of stuff. Nolan: Mm-hmm. I'm hoping they do a ⁓ hefty time jump because I don't want this to be because it's if for those who are also unaware, Matt Reeves last Friday posted some test shots that he was doing as they're preparing for production to start. It was snow based, right? And if you guys remember correctly, first film was Halloween. The Penguin Show followed up pretty much the weeks or month right after that disaster happened around Halloween. Jesus: Yes. Nolan: And now... We have snow. I'm really hoping it's not the same year, Christmas time. I would like them to give us maybe a year into a year past that maybe two years just to show that he is not the same sniveling brat who's figuring out his gadgets and gizmos and how to be a Batman and detective at the same time. I want to see a little bit more of a fleshed out Batman because if we're going to do character building, I can't have another origin character build for Batman. Like I just I'm done with it. I need Batman. Jesus: It would feel repetitive if we hit the same beats that we did prior, so I agree. Nolan: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly, exactly. But yeah, I'm hyped for this for this film. It has been way too damn long. I think this released in what, 2022? Like, come on, man. Like we have been... Yeah. Yeah, I'm a whole ass husband now. Like what the fuck are we doing? What the fuck are we doing? Jesus: Way too long, bro. This is it's crazy that it's 26 and we don't have a sequel out ⁓ god, bro. We was we was single and ready to mingle and just vibing right? I think I got it. I got a mortgage now. Okay, there's things happening to me ⁓ my lord Nolan: I wish I had a mortgage in California. ⁓ dear god ⁓ Anyway Yeah, exactly ⁓ Let us know what you guys think about this cast list for the Matt Reeves the Batman part two ⁓ And what you guys maybe hypothesize is the storyline for this because there's a lot of rumors going on Like about the world and no one has really kind of pinpointed exactly where we're at Let us know Jesus: out there, just keep on rettin' my friend, you'll be alright. Nolan: That'll do it for our news nuggets. Moving on, we are going to get into our trailer review. We only have one trailer and then we're going to dive into some coverage regarding The Punisher, One Last Kill, and as well as The Boys Season 5, Episode 7, the penultimate episode for the entire series. But of course, the first trailer we got. This is just a little fun one, The Hawk, which is starring Will Ferrell as a kind of way past his prime golfing pro. ⁓ Who's trying to return back? Yeah, yeah, he's returned into form ⁓ Will Ferrell is going into these tournaments trying to beat those You know the young up-and-comers including a character who's playing his son played by Jimmy Tatro ⁓ Jalen you saw this trailer. It was a short one. It just for funsies. It's gonna be premiering on Netflix So it's not like you need to run out. It's not an Emmy Jesus: Concept is already immaculate. can't yeah. Yeah Nolan: It's not chasing any amies guys, let's be clear about that. But, Jalen, your thoughts on the trailer teaser for The Hawk starring Will Ferrell. Jesus: I mean, it's funny, it's Will Ferrell, it's 10,000 out of 10. You know I'm already locked in. I didn't even need to see it. You said it in the thing, I didn't even watch it, I don't even care, it's already here, it's done. It's amazing. Let's do it. Right now. Nolan: ⁓ all right. mean, I mean, yeah. Okay, let's just for for just for the sake of it. Let me just let you guys know ⁓ who is also cast in this. Right. So it just follows Lonnie Hawkins, the hawk, ⁓ as 2004's top golfer as he struggles to recapture his magic late in his career, refusing to believe he's anything other than one stroke away from golf's greatest comeback. Jesus: It's all you need. It's all you need. Right now. Give it to me. Nolan: Don't we all have that thought? Just one hit away from being set for life. ⁓ Wilfer will be in it. Jimmy Tatro. Molly Shannon. And that's it, that you guys would know. that should let you know. That should be square for you guys to know who's in that one. Jesus: That's it, alright! Nolan: Yeah, we're not gonna be reviewing this one, but I'll give it a watch. Same thing that we talked about with Adam Sandler. If it's a Will Ferrell production, I'm gonna hop in. I'm gonna give it a go. Especially because golf, comedy, Happy Gilmore, it all coincides together, right? ⁓ But give the trailer a watch. Let us know what you guys think about the teaser for The Hawk coming to Netflix. Jalen, it's time. Jesus: Is it time? Time. Nolan: It's time. We are going to be discussing... Spoiler. I mean, there's not too much to really spoil, but spoiler. The Punisher One Last Kill, which was a special presentation. 45 minute... I guess you could say shot episode. Short film. We'll get into our pros and cons. One, let's start with the pros. I love that they... Jesus: done, but yeah. episode? short film? Short film, right? Nolan: without beating us over the head with dialogue. in I would say 10 minutes time of this 45 minute production really showcased his PTSD. I think they did a fantastic job of showing what his one part of his life in the military as well as the loss of his family, how that has kind of just been compiling over the years and amplifying with each kill that he's done and each vengeance-ridden story he's accomplished. ⁓ I thought that was amazing. I really thought that it was really really good to see that it's not just ⁓ a character for those of you who never saw maybe the original Netflix series who just kind of maybe saw him here and there in Daredevil. That he's not just some crazy maniac violence-induced drug addict, not drug addict, but violence addict. Like he's not just someone who goes out and just murders to murder and he's just doing it for the fun of the game. ⁓ He's got some demons. He's got a lot of demons. And I think they... Jesus: This is the most messed up we've ever seen Frank, by the way. Because the show let us know a little bit, right? We saw it kind of gradually start to get a little bit more out of control. And really what this show does was a Frank that's actually hit that point of we don't even know who Frank is or what he's doing anymore. Because he is like the hallucinations, the way that they introduced other characters from his show and in the films that he's. Nolan: Yes, yes, especially because he's alone. Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: been interacting with and stuff. Kind of just the real, it was very raw, was a very raw scene, the opening 10, ⁓ seeing what actual veterans will go through and all those kinds of things. That's a very real take on what sometimes those symptoms can look like, by the way. That's a very real shot in there, and Jon Bernthal is like... Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: putting it all out there on the line for those shots. So good on him, good on the production for going there, I think. To be honest, I think it's kind of brave to kind of go in there and really show that level of it because sometimes you want to be cute and there's been other ways to show it on TV. But to me, I think this is just one of the most artistically accurate ways you could have done showing where Frank is in a spot that we, again, we've never really seen him this messed up. Like he is beyond gone. Like Frank is not okay. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And no, I completely agree. And I think that at least the way I saw or interpreted, I think they did a cool job of showing his hallucinations with his Marine Corps, as well as the flashbacks he would have shooting through his head kind of were giving him the like the poking the bear like Jesus: ⁓ right now. Nolan: you're you you're not enough you didn't accomplish this you didn't do that then he already gets to the point where he's at the cemetery he has the gun he's ready to pull the trigger his daughter is the one who kind of pulls him back because he's still living i think would be better suited for their memory because he's the only one who would be left to remember them and then you kind of get to the hallucination of caren who just who's the embodiment of like it's okay you're not alone we are here Jesus: Right. Nolan: which kind of kind of, I don't want to say it soothes him, but it sets him back into, all right, I still have purpose. I have something to do, which I thought was a pretty cool idea. So that's one of my pros. Another one, the action was great. The gun violence was cool. I think that it was really, really cool to see like. Jesus: Of course. Of course. Of course. Nolan: how he was going about how he was never like he didn't even use his own weapons to begin the movie or even at all until you really get to the last scene. ⁓ It was just it was I'm gonna kill you take your gun boom boom boom I'm out of bullets gonna take your gun and it was just him going about really showing his ⁓ his pizzazz you know what I mean? ⁓ Jesus: No, it was straight up just him being better than everybody. Well, it's showing that difference of like, this is a guy that like, it's the irony in the movies that doesn't always make sense when we have the standard, like he was X, know, Delta, whatever makeup. Like, no, this is what that would look like if you tried to like, from what he's supposed to have done in the military, this is exactly what that would look like if you really tried to mess with that guy. Which is like. Nolan: Yeah. No you're- Now y'all done fucked up. Jesus: He had no weapons to start, they tried to set him on fire and none of it worked. Like he literally was just that guy. So there's, own, it's in a realistic fashion too, which I think is always cool because they don't like go over the top with him doing something ridiculous. All of it seems like something you would be trained to do in a certain scenario. Yes. Nolan: It was the little nuances too. Like each gun he would fire off and then like if he was transitioning to a new area he would always check the mag just to see how many he had. It wasn't like he just knew what he was doing. Like he had to make sure he was following his protocols kind of thing. Yeah, so I thought that was great. ⁓ Jesus: ⁓ yes. Nolan: That's kind of where it ends for my pros. So here's what I'm going to say. One. Jesus: Wow, here we go. ⁓ my lord. ⁓ my lord. Nolan: I think okay, I'll say this is a neutral for what it was 45 minutes was the correct time slot. For what it was, it was the correct time slot. Would I have wanted more? Absolutely. Because I think Jon Bernthal is amazing in this role. ⁓ think... Did I what? Jesus: What did we expect more? Did we expect more? Yes. Nolan: I did and we'll kind of we'll kind of get into that right. ⁓ To I thought the like I get it. I thought the the new chief family that being the the story plot that's going to get him out from under the rock and having to go out and just blitz a million people. ⁓ It seemed Yeah, very random. Jesus: That's right. Bit random. Nolan: And it was kind of unfulfilled at the end, right? Because it shows him finishing the scene in front of the Nucci building, but it doesn't let you know that everything was copacetic at the end, that he was able to get his one last kill. that not what the title is? Like, I was like, okay, she's... was like, yeah, the last... Yeah, yeah. We didn't see it. ⁓ Jesus: brain. Thought she is literally gonna be the one last kill and we didn't see him do it. What the hell is this? Nolan: So thought that was a little funky. I didn't like the... I feel like we could have picked a different actress as well. whatever... I don't know if the Nucci family is a part of any sort of comic lore. If it is, I apologize in advance. But, like, how was I supposed to feel threatened as Frank Castle when, you know... I'm just... Jesus: ⁓ so you're ableist now. That's what you're saying? You wanted somebody standing in front of him instead of being in a wheelchair, you ableist bastard? Nolan: Was it standing? Was it really standing? It was leaning, you know? I just didn't feel... No, no, I mean, it wasn't that specific. I think that her acting was just not crisp enough to make me believe that she was a mother of a family who is now extinct that wanted revenge. I just feel like you could have picked a different actress to do something. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't feel that. And like, nothing to do with her handicap. Jesus: Whatever. Well, the mother of a crime family. There should be some aura there, right? Nolan: But it just didn't hit raw enough if that's what we're going for. You know, it just did. It kind of took me out. I'll say it that way. It took me out. ⁓ The last thing that I was kind of upset about or not upset. I was not upset about it. We kind of have this big thing where we have John Bernthal come back to the Daredevil universe. We're very excited. We're happy he's back. We're happy he's Jesus: Feel it, feel it, yeah. Nolan: being in this role because it's hand in glove fit. We get announcement, hey everyone loved the return of the Punisher, guess what we're doing a special presentation of the Punisher, one last kill. At the end of it I was left thinking, what was the point of this? Other than to just showcase his PTSD? But what like, if you're gonna do this, sometimes we, you know, we were spoiled as comic fans or comic book movie, TV show fans. But where does this lead? Like what is this gonna tell me? It just told me at the end that I am still Punisher. I knew that at the beginning before I even watched this. He's still Punisher. So I didn't understand what the purpose of this one-shot kill or one last kill special was gonna be. ⁓ But I digress. Jalen, let me know your thoughts. Anything from what I've mentioned, pros, cons, and then anything that you want to add into that. Jesus: Right. Yep, that's where I'm at too. I'm just gonna add, I think we have a lot of the same pros and cons. I think there should have been a minimum full movie production length, an hour 40 minimum. ⁓ First of all, if not a mini series, you could also still use as a special presentation. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Or make it an extension episode of Daredevil. Like, ⁓ what are we doing? Jesus: Or something, whatever. Like they did that in the 90s all the time, right? You get like a special tie-in episode or something. Or like Adam Eve in Invincible, it's the same thing. ⁓ You know what mean? ⁓ That is what I was expecting. And again, very cool things that I liked. It was violent. I expected him to murder everyone in sight. I do think there was a little bit more justice to be done for the pieces of shit that did that dog in the opening. So. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. ⁓ my god, yes, that- Jesus: They did not get punished enough for me. I wanted to see his whole shit get messed around with a little bit. That's right. That's right. ⁓ But that being said, we had so many questions about Frank Castle when he pops back up in Daredevil that none of them got answered in this special. And the only thing we're left with is literally what you asked. It's like, okay, well then what am I even, where are we? What's happening? When is this? Nolan: I wanted him to get his legs run over just so he could suffer a little longer. Jesus: Cause there's no tie into anything at all. We don't see him escape the cages from Fisk. We don't see him maybe even interacting or like having a nod to like, okay, this is right before No Way Home, which we know he's gonna be in or something, right? Like there is nothing here that is tying anything together. And I think... Nolan: I will say I love that they also showcase that he still has a soul. Like he's helping those who are helpless. Like the family from the bodega or coffee shop, he was helping them. Yeah. Jesus: Yeah, yes. Because he has a choice there in that scene. It's like, can go get her right now, or I can help this father who's, you know, right. That's who Punisher is. He's gonna do objectively what is probably the right thing still. He's never gonna be super selfish in those moments. ⁓ And let a father watch someone take kids away from them, ever. That's just never who Punisher is. There's a line there for Frank. ⁓ Now how? Nolan: That was great character showcase there for whoever directed this. Mm-hmm. Jesus: How he goes and does that is up to your morality and your discretion, but there's a very, they will not survive. That's a promise. ⁓ But all that being said, again, I just, there was a couple of storylines that felt like layups when you're saying you're going to do a Punisher special after we've seen him in Daredevil season one. Like it felt like the layup of all layups is like, catch us up to A, where he was right when he got captured. Show us like that escape plan. And then show us like some of the interactions that he's going to probably have in the future like give us a reason to tie in and watch this it felt very it's feeling weird that they are avoiding some of these easy connecting layups recently And I don't understand why like I don't understand why there's no Just little nugget of like peter does know what's happening in hell's kitchen like getting off the phone with matt or something and him saying Let's stay away. I've got it on control. I don't worry about it. Like just something man. Like it just doesn't It doesn't entirely make sense to me. And I know in the past, they kinda got in trouble with that a little bit because it did feel like sometimes, the Multiverse of Madness is like the biggest example, right? If you didn't watch WandaVision, that movie's completely different for you. And you're missing probably like a third of the story for sure. So I understand that part and that fear of we want people to be able to just approach this and be entertained by it and be able to come in scot-free. But at the same time, like... Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: There are fans like you and I that have sat here and watched all this content and we're like, dude, can we get some kind of connection here? Like what is the deal? And this story is just random and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense at all. Like this is just a very random thing. Like I felt like the story plot definitely should have just been like, answer some of the questions. You can feel in a rant, like, you know, one last kill thread of. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: maybe this is like a breaking point for Frank because of what he had to do to get out of Fisk's thing and then the, you know, here he is after that and boom, boom, boom, here's the pills and the alcohol and the PTSD and all that stuff. But like, get us back to how he went to go be a hero, which is what he needs to be. And all the other stuff was something that makes sense and where we're going with the character because we've all seen the trailer for No Way Home or the brand new day by now. like, show us. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: how he gets back to baseline Frank and being a hero and being okay. And this random Noochi family, I don't think is it. I just don't think it made the mark that it's supposed to be, so. Nolan: Yeah. You know what would have made this presentation so much better? You add 15 minutes to it, okay? He does his thing with the dog killer, rightfully so, forget it, done deal. You shouldn't have touched that dog, you dumbass. Then he goes and approaches. Jesus: 15 whole minutes. Bastard. Nolan: the head of the Nuchi family, the last remaining survivor, they go into this dialogue back and forth of why he's here to do this, what he had to do it for, why he killed her family members, blah blah blah. And you know what would have made... I'm not saying that this should have just dropped it in, but you could have made something a little bit more appealing and I'll get to why. You have Spider-Man stop him from killing her. You have Spider-Man come in, stop him from killing her, not give him any fight scenes, not take away from the Punisher, but we now have a little bit more of a connection of how we go from this PTSD ridden character who's blood hungry, and now you're gonna put him in a PG-13 Spider-Man brand new day film. Tell me how that two connects, because that doesn't make any sense to me that we're gonna have this guy who's going and just gonna kill about, and all of a sudden he's poking jabs at Spider-Man in his next film. I think that it just doesn't make sense. And then you can kind of just cliffhanger it where Spider-Man's like, I need your help, blah, blah, or some random crap. I don't know. I'm not the writer. I'm just saying like in a sense, this is what I think could have induced a lot more cohesiveness into where we're going to get this now Frank Castle, because you can't necessarily have him be crazy Frank right now, then become dad Frank in the PG-13 maybe with just like PG-13 jabs here and there, dialogue, violence, and then eventually have him back in probably Daredevil Season 3 and be angry Frank again. Like it just, it's not what the character deserves in that fashion. I don't know, what'd you think about Jesus: I'm agreeing with it. You can't really like nerf the brutality of what this character is. Like I said, this is why I said that like when the original stuff was coming over to Disney, I was overly concerned if they were gonna try to do The Punisher because you can't do any of it without it being Radar. But then we got, know, obviously they did Deadpool and we were all good to go and they were good with doing Radar content. ⁓ that's what it seems like is still happening even though it's very clear that they are capable of doing great Nolan: Yeah. Jesus: Punisher content, because the majority of this is good Punisher storyline, good Punisher content, the brutality of it, the issues with his mind and all that other good stuff. It's very graphic. ⁓ And they push the envelope, but the problem is, like we're saying, it's the connectivity to the rest of the universe, because this Frank can't just pop up in an Avengers movie. You know what mean? Like this Frank just can't just be there because... Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: you basically would have to cut away from him because how he would handle, like how he's handling these problems are like permanent. They are finite. Like there is a way Frank is going to handle this problem and you will either just deal with it or not like it. Those are your two, like you're not gonna like it for sure, but you're either gonna deal with it or you're just gonna have to deal with not liking it, but it's gonna get done. Like that is who this person is. And so like for him to just pop up and try to be like, Nolan: You want the infinity gauntlet? You want the infinity gauntlet? Jesus: Uncle to Peter kind of or like big bro to Peter is kind of random which does happen in the comics too like they have their interactions but ⁓ it's definitely a through line of how stuff goes though I think and that scene would have been so easy to do because Tom would have just had to do like VA and you could have got a stunt guy in a mask and just had it been like like I said five ten minutes scene it's not a big deal to just connect the dots here I don't know what kind of writes that I don't know what the Sony writes thing is maybe that's something else Nolan: Yeah, yeah. You can't go hot and cold and then hot again. just... it'll... Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, obviously I said that out of a whim. The Sony rights would not have allowed that kind of thing to necessarily happen. Unless they agreed upon it. Jesus: Right. like something or even have fucking Matt Murdock pop up, Like, we just saw you last season. We don't keep tabs on people. Check in on Frank, see if he's doing all right. Hello? What? Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm. And as much as Frank doesn't need, like, well, admit it, he needs Daredevil to, like, kind of keep him, like, keep him, like, hold him on leash a little bit. But, you know, here we are. Yeah. Yeah. It was, it was fun for what it was. Yeah. Well, I'm glad we were on the same page with that one. Jesus: He does. Keep him in the line. Some opportunities missed, but it's a solid seven out of 10. I liked it. It was a good time. Yeah. Nolan: I think I was talking to Keoni yesterday, he's like, so what'd think of the Punisher, One Last Kill? I think we were playing video games, and I was like, it was cool. He's like, yep, the tone in your voice is exactly how I felt. It was cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jesus: Yeah was like, alright, but like, yeah, like I'm still overly excited from what I saw, like again, like I had a better reaction to it, because like I came home and Bilky was playing and he told me about like, he's like, dude, Punisher? And I was like, yeah, bro, like that shit was amazing. But I still have my problems with it, you know what mean? It is what it is, but there are very obvious things they should have done better with the production, but Jon Bernthal, lot of violence, Punisher. I am, say, let me tell you something, come on. Nolan: Let's do it. Yeah. ⁓ You want me to join the Avengers? Let me tell you something. This Doctor Doom is not even a doctor. Now, let us know what you guys thought of The Punisher One Last Kill on Disney Plus as a Marvel television special presentation. Last thing we're covering today, the penultimate episode of The Boys, episode seven. Now, for those of you who are just listening, there are two characters on our thumbnail screen right now that ⁓ Jesus: Yeah. Hmm. Huh. Yes. Just an interaction. Nolan: We're gonna spoiler heavy this one. So it is Homelander and Frenchie in this screenshot and why you may ask is because The boys finally did it after Six episodes of offing another main character. I mean, okay. Well, I'll give credit to firecracker, but I don't think anyone really said that she's ⁓ Frenchie in a heroic feat Jesus: No, no one cared. Nolan: Hide, Sage, and Kimiko in the zinc lined safe and thus one on one versus Homelander. More of a dialogue if anything. And of course they set it up where you kind of saw what was going to happen coming. They made it very clear that he He was expressing how he loves Kimiko and you could see that this is like a not character development, but this is something that he's never really said out loud in the past four seasons. That he's showing that this is like this is his end all be all they talked about going away after this to live on a beach together. I was like I was like, yeah, I was like, there it is. There it is. It was either one or the other that was going to bite it. Yeah. And I think they did a good job of kind of like Jesus: Settling down and kids and the picket fence. I'm like, all right. Well, okay smell your Frenchie Nolan: diverting the attention by showing she's just trying like sacrifice herself to like get things done and in my head I was like, ⁓ she's gonna be the one that's gonna die trying to figure out this new experiment and then that's how it's gonna end but They flipped it whereas like homelanders on his way. I was like, ⁓ shit like I was like, there's only one person who's gonna survive this or not survive this ⁓ and It kind of went Jesus: Damn. Nolan: into that before we kind of dive back into the ending of the episode we got to start off with it obviously ⁓ they're they're playing they're playing into hollywood and the politics of all still a lot test screenings you didn't like it well now we know that you're you're you're a you're a fascist fascist you know i mean like you're you're not with the cause we have to get rid of you ⁓ Jesus: That's right. Nolan: Kind of a weird cutscene that they did with the cat lady and the dog dude where they're just sniffing each other's butts. It's the boys, I get it. ⁓ There's that part of it. ⁓ You have... Jesus: You're dead to me. Nolan: I'm gonna draw a blank on it. ⁓ Starlight and M.M. kind of having this little heart-to-heart moment as well where they're kind of figuring out, yeah, which was great. I think it was good to see them kind of express themselves a little bit more in a different way of who they are. M.M. kind of coming to terms with who he is now from where he, it was a small little backdrop story that he showed about why he a little kid. ⁓ And then of course we had the weird little Jesus: Which is nice. Nolan: Showdown with Homelander and ⁓ Soldier Boy where he just chokes him out and puts him back on ice like bro How long is this guy gonna be going back and forth like? Sleeping and not sleeping like leave him alone Jesus: See it seems the advertisement for the spin-off series is over We're gonna put you back in the ice chamber and wrap up what the main story has been. Yes Nolan: You just sleep tight, lil pup. Yeah, yeah. But maybe they did that as a turning point because maybe the boys will find him, defrost him again, and then that'll be the way that they can fight Homeletter. ⁓ We finally got Marie Moreau and Jordan Lee in the show from Gen V to do what? Bitch at each other. That's it. That like... Yes, yes. Like, I get it. Jesus: Maybe, maybe. Literally nothing. That was the dumbest cameo of all time. I... wow. Nolan: we're gonna have we're like someone brought up a good fun post about it starlight lecturing marie about not being able to control her powers when this whole season starlight has not been able to keep up a boner for a long long minute like she could not keep up her starlight stuff going for more than maybe one shot yeah yeah Jesus: She hasn't been able to hang with anyone this season. Like she kind of threw hands in like, I feel like three and four, but like this season she's been absolutely dog shit in these fights. Like just unbelievably un- Nolan: Yeah, and for you to be the one to lecture Marie when she can bring people back to life. I was like, hey, also, I was like, the fake death theory in me wants me to think that maybe Marie shows up in the beginning of episode eight and saves French. I don't know, but I probably did not because it'll lose its luster for the season, but that would be pretty cool. Jesus: ⁓ my bro. That'd be cool. That'd be cool. That'd be... It would, but like, would be cool. Because at this point, I feel like nothing matters. There are no real stakes. Nolan: be cool. Would be cool. Exactly. Jesus: There's going to be a resolution with Homelander, what it is, I'm not entirely sure. I'm sure the comic nerds will guess what it's supposed to be and how they can do a version of it. But at this point, because it's just more a little bit frustrating to me. This is the penultimate episode. This is the episode that I wanted to walk away from being like, damn, like, yeah, let's get to this finale and then be sad that it's over, right? Like that's how it should feel. But instead, Nolan: It was more just sad. Jesus: It's just more just sad and like what the hell are we doing? So basically they made Gen V just a complete waste of time because they bring in the cameo finally and they do nothing but bitch at each other and do nothing in the plot either. Like they're useless. They don't do anything. So basically the whole arc of whatever Marie went through in Gen V that we watched and really enjoyed literally means nothing because they could literally just turn her on Homelander by the way. Nolan: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm. Jesus: It was made very clear in Gen V that she was capable of killing Homelander and that would be the whole build up. Nolan: You what this is like? You know what this is like, Jalen? This is like going out and signing Patrick Mahomes in free agency. And then having Kirk Cousins as the starting quarterback and say, Patrick, hold my clipboard. Like, you don't bench your MVP caliber player for this. No disrespect to Kirk. I love you, Kirk Cousins. But, yeah. Jesus: This is. Oh my God, that is exactly what's happening. That is exactly what's happening, dude. It's insane to me. Yeah. Nolan: I mean, then we get to the end of the episode. I'm glad that they, you know, they took the shot of killing one of the boys and ⁓ probably the one who was most deserving of a life after. ⁓ It made it hurt a little more. So I'll give credit to that. They did well by who they kind of offed in this episode, but I am in agreement. We are in the penultimate episode of the entire series and I don't feel like we've hit the next gear yet. I just don't feel it. it's sad to say. ⁓ Has the season been good? Yes, it's been good. Do I think it's better than season four? Debatable, but you know, here we are. But Jalen, any last thoughts on this episode as we enter the series finale next week? Jesus: Entirely as high on this season as you are. I've been very disappointed with season 5 I felt like season 4 was miles above where we are at right now Narratively character wise I felt like there was a lot of stuff to build off of from season 4 heading into season 5 ⁓ And then especially because we watched envy and like how that all progressed and I was like wow like that's really getting me excited for season 5 and it's just been very Very mid all the way through like nothing is really paying off ⁓ There are still so many storylines and threads from both Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: Gen V and the boys that really haven't been like iron clad shut off and fixed yet and that is and we have one episode left so it's either gonna be the most rushed finale of all time or it's just gonna be very empty and we are not gonna stick the landing and that like all that other stuff like we're like Ryan I know he got beat up and he recovered but like now he's just we're just leaving that we're just what we were just leaving that storyline out Nolan: Yeah. You just chillin'? You just chillin'? Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Jesus: We're not gonna have any redemption there for his mom and all the stuff that he went through as a kid with Butcher and all that other stuff. We're just leaving that up to dry. You know what mean? Yeah, and I... You know, I just, don't understand a lot of the choices. Like, A-Train's death felt very weird and kind of... Not weird, but like, was definitely a send-off for sure. It was a choice that was made. But like... Nolan: What are we doing? What are we doing? keeping them on the bench. Come on. I thought it was a good choice in how they wrote his death where he ends his role laughing where you can't scare me anymore. I'm over that. I thought that was brilliant. Yes. Jesus: laughing in his face, which is awesome. Right. That was a great moment in this season. I thought that was really well done. And I wanted more of those kinds of moments where like, yes, characters are gonna start dropping because Homelander's crazy, but like, it's gonna be worth it because we're gonna get some sort of either the villain wins payoff or the, you know, the heroes win payoff. yeah, just very lukewarm on season five. I was hoping for a lot more. ⁓ I felt the other seasons were way better and way more fun and... Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: you know, of brought you, got you excited about the boys and all that kind of stuff. So, yeah. Nolan: Yeah. But nonetheless, here we are. ⁓ I'm hoping they at least finish it off right. don't just give me a, don't give me a clusterfuck of fighting. Make sure it's tasteful. You know what I mean? I want to see something exciting from this. I want to see some resolutions being had. ⁓ But that'll do it for us here. Jim, any last thoughts on anything that we've covered today? Anything new you want to share with the world out there that's listening? Jesus: Right, stick the landing. Right. Just just vibing as always brother. We're gonna keep things rolling I can't wait to get to next Friday and go see Mandalorian and Grogu like I said fingers crossed I'm hoping it's gonna be one of those things I walk out man That was definitely something to go see in a theater and not just watch it home. So bad a boom bad a bing Nolan: Righteous, righteous. ⁓ As always, thank you guys for joining us. Thank you guys for tuning in. Most importantly, thank you for making us a part of your day. We enjoyed having you be a part of ours. From all of us here at Poinsettia, good vibes and love, everybody. Jesus: Deuces.
