- Rates held. Prices didn't. This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King. Here's the question for your day: when the people in charge admit they don't know what to do next, where does a Christian put his hope? The Federal Reserve held interest rates unchanged yesterday. In the same breath, officials admitted inflation remains elevated. Last month the Fed raised rates for the first time in three years. Yesterday, two officials wanted another hike. The rest said wait. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh called it a "heck of a family fight." His words. He said the pause gives officials time to gather more information on rising prices. Let that sit. The most powerful central bank in the world needs more information. Stocks ticked up anyway. The Dow added nearly one hundred points. Wall Street heard "we're not sure" and decided that was fine for today. Here's the thing. Scripture never promised a stable economy. It promised a stable God. Proverbs three, verse five. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." Lean. Not consult. Not consider. Lean. The question isn't whether the Fed gets this right. The question is what you were leaning on in the first place. If you want to sit with that verse today, open Bible Copilot and walk through Proverbs three slowly. Two more developments sharpen the question. First, the Pentagon. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, the Pentagon's top military planner. A Pentagon official told CBS News that Sylvia was accused of leaking classified information about the Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine war. He failed three polygraph tests. The case has been referred to the Justice Department. Sylvia is the latest in nearly two dozen senior military leaders fired or forced out under Hegseth. Thirty-two years of service. Gone. No replacement named. This comes as President Trump is weighing renewed strikes on Iran after next week's midterms. A third U.S. aircraft carrier is heading to the region. Psalm twenty, verse seven. "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God." Chariots fail. Planners get fired. The name of the Lord does not change. Second, a major security breach. The Department of Homeland Security is investigating what sources called a "catastrophic" leak. Names, titles, locations, and in some cases phone numbers of roughly forty thousand DHS employees — including about ten thousand ICE personnel, more than twenty thousand Customs and Border Protection employees, and several undercover agents. An anti-fascist hacking group calling itself the "Department of Peace" claimed responsibility. Their stated goal was to "replace anonymity with accountability." Real families are now exposed. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard. And pray for those agents by name if you know one. Spouses. Kids. That's the practice. Not a hot take. A prayer. This episode is presented by Bible Copilot. Open Bible Copilot and study today's Verse of the Day first — Proverbs three, verses five and six. It will guide you through what the passage says, what it means, what it teaches about God, and how to apply it today. Three questions a day are free. Start at mybiblecopilot dot com slash gospel. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." The Fed is gathering information. Generals are being fired. Databases are leaking. And God is still making straight paths for those who lean on him. Thanks for listening to The Gospel Briefing. The headlines will shift tomorrow. The One you lean on will not. See you then.
