- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, my beautiful ladies and gen sure, there's a couple gents.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Just all my folks, all my people. Welcome to another
- 0:15Speaker 1: episode of Give Them La La. What day is it?
- 0:20Speaker 2: What day is it?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Well, it's this stile air Wednesday.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It's Monday right now.
- 0:24Speaker 1: But this layer feeling a little like, can I tell
- 0:26Speaker 1: you I've realized that when I decide to go and
- 0:32Speaker 1: do something, mm hmm, if I go to bed, let's
- 0:36Speaker 1: just say anytime after midnight, Like, it's all the same
- 0:40Speaker 1: after that, when you're going to bed after midnight, I
- 0:43Speaker 1: could be going to bed at midnight and it might
- 0:46Speaker 1: as well be five in the morning, because it's all
- 0:48Speaker 1: no matter. If I get eight hours of sleep, I'm
- 0:50Speaker 1: the next morning, I'm gonna feel sick. I'm gonna feel depleted.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be digging life.
- 0:56Speaker 2: That is the same for me. That's so weird. Yeah, yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 2: that's the same for me. If I go to bed
- 1:00Speaker 2: after midnight, and it doesn't matter if I have one
- 1:04Speaker 2: drink or five, I will feel the same. So usually
- 1:07Speaker 2: when I go out, I just don't drink because I'm like,
- 1:09Speaker 2: what's the point.
- 1:09Speaker 1: What's the point?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Well, and I told my my mom I tell my
- 1:16Speaker 1: beautiful mother because we're obsessing over a Game of Thrones
- 1:19Speaker 1: right now and like I cannot stop watching. Yeah, but
- 1:21Speaker 1: I told her, like, when the clock hits eleven, we're done.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you go to bed.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I go to bed. There's no more because if we
- 1:31Speaker 1: push into midnight, my my whole next day is going
- 1:34Speaker 1: to be shot.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And even though it's a weekend, Like my kid doesn't care. Yeah,
- 1:39Speaker 1: my kids like time to wake up and play and
- 1:42Speaker 1: run around.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And it's exhausting right right, and just but.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Just like if I go to bed too late, I'm
- 1:48Speaker 1: like fuck this.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And it's easy to do that with Game of Thrones
- 1:50Speaker 2: because you're like, just one more. We have to see
- 1:52Speaker 2: what happens next, like just one more. And then with
- 1:55Speaker 2: Game of Thrones, next thing, you know, it's freaking three am.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Three in the morning, and I'm having to wake up
- 2:02Speaker 1: and be mom and run a business and put food
- 2:05Speaker 1: on the table and pay these bills.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So you're exhausted today, You don't seem it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I don't know, not at all.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You look your skin is glowing. She's got the pony Bunton, which,
- 2:13Speaker 2: if you guys don't know, is the new is the
- 2:16Speaker 2: new style. It's actually starting to get probably old now,
- 2:20Speaker 2: because it's been like going strong for about two weeks.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But it's two weeks and it's over, and I'm just
- 2:25Speaker 1: caught on.
- 2:26Speaker 2: It's the thing that Kim Kardashian and all these supermodels
- 2:29Speaker 2: have been wearing.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm so done with that. By the way, Kim. Kim
- 2:32Speaker 1: Kardashian brings back the middle part, go fuck yourself. I've
- 2:35Speaker 1: been rocking that shit since the first grade.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I know the middle.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Kim Kardashian brings back the swoop Bang. No, I've been
- 2:43Speaker 1: rocking that shit all season, I know. But because my
- 2:45Speaker 1: season doesn't air until God knows when it's gonna look
- 2:49Speaker 1: like Kim Kay did it with shame, do it like
- 2:53Speaker 1: like Kent did it first looks better, But make no mistake,
- 2:58Speaker 1: the swoop Bang never went out of stock.
- 3:00Speaker 2: That's true. That's true.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I love me some, Kim Kardashian. Yeah, you know that,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I like, I only know for celebrities. Yeah, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Beyonce,
- 3:12Speaker 1: Haley Beaber yeap.
- 3:13Speaker 2: No, that's true.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Done, she says.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Done. Okay, So with that, you didn't come in today
- 3:18Speaker 2: seeming exhausted to me, But you did seem over some things.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You seem just like I'm done with these things? Can
- 3:27Speaker 2: we share with what they are? We're bored with something?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, just can I tell you so? Like
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm familiar with the athlete game. When I was a
- 3:37Speaker 1: youngin like early twenties, I loved I loved a good athlete. Right,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm so bored with them now?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:48Speaker 2: Why like you?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Because I'm I just am I'm like, you dribble a ball, Okay,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you got the wrong audience member unimpressed, right, you dribble
- 3:57Speaker 1: a basketball. You may be great at it, like great, perfect,
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's cool. Yeah, but I'm like, what you think you
- 4:02Speaker 1: don't gotta like show up? You got to show up.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Like you gotta give me something anything.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Right, And it's like you're asking me all of these things,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and then I respond to you and it's I'm just bored. Yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 1: Like I'm just bored. I don't think it's just an
- 4:17Speaker 1: athlete thing. I just think it's a day and age thing.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You know. It's like I'm no stranger to what these
- 4:23Speaker 1: men are doing. I know I'm one of seventy two
- 4:27Speaker 1: hundred chicks that you're talking to. Sliding in my DM
- 4:31Speaker 1: got it. Yeah, all right. I don't think I'm special
- 4:34Speaker 1: to you, but like, don't make me be bored.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Don't make me bored. It's the and people know.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's don't make me be bored.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Don't make me be bored. This, don't make me be
- 4:46Speaker 2: bored putting that on a T shirt. No, it's like
- 4:51Speaker 2: the thing where in this might not be true and
- 4:55Speaker 2: some people are gonna.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Hate me for it.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But it's like the the hot girl or the super
- 5:00Speaker 2: hot guy with no personality. And I know that's not
- 5:03Speaker 2: the case because look at you, Lalla. I know that's
- 5:05Speaker 2: not the case with everyone. But there is like something
- 5:08Speaker 2: where if you have a certain talent or you're super
- 5:12Speaker 2: super hot, your personality in some people just kind of
- 5:15Speaker 2: falls by the wayside or the effort is just not there.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It's like here, I am, my presence is gift enough.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I don't have to keep a conversation going. I don't
- 5:24Speaker 2: have to keep it interesting. And that's not the vibe, no, because.
- 5:27Speaker 1: When you're boring, you're forcing me to be boring and
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm not boring. And let's be honest, I'm not walking
- 5:32Speaker 1: in here. Look in like Irena shake all right, I
- 5:35Speaker 1: know my place. I know my place, so like you
- 5:41Speaker 1: need to know your place right because you're not. Michael B.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Jordan's all right, wait to see single, Oh yeah, Michael.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Can I tell you though, I loved when so Michael B.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Jordan came in a close second to Kobe Bryant For me.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I used to watch Hardball every single day with Keanu Reeves.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I don't know if you ever saw it the Baseball
- 6:05Speaker 1: movie okay, and Michael B. Jordan played Jamal and when
- 6:11Speaker 1: Jamal makes his exit or Michael B. Jordan makes his exit,
- 6:14Speaker 1: which is like middle of the movie, and then he
- 6:17Speaker 1: doesn't come back until the very end, Okay, I would
- 6:21Speaker 1: stop the movie and start it from the beginning because
- 6:24Speaker 1: I'm like, all I want to see is a freaking
- 6:27Speaker 1: Jamal on the screen.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So he was younger, then he was a baby.
- 6:31Speaker 1: He was so young really, and then all of a
- 6:34Speaker 1: sudden years later, and can I tell you he was
- 6:37Speaker 1: so hard to look up on the internet because you
- 6:38Speaker 1: look at Michael B. Jordan and he was like he
- 6:40Speaker 1: had maybe like a couple movies, yea, and Michael Jordan.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Michael Jordan's like, where the fuck can I look up
- 6:46Speaker 1: Michael B. Jordan, Like they meet him on my screen somewhere.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Have you ever seen him in person? No, Okay, I'm
- 6:53Speaker 2: interested to see if he's got like I've heard that
- 6:55Speaker 2: he has like the most like you know how sometimes
- 6:59Speaker 2: you see hot people and then he.
- 7:00Speaker 1: In person You're like, okay, it's a little I think
- 7:02Speaker 1: he might be on the shorter side though, is he
- 7:04Speaker 1: heard he's on the shorter side.
- 7:05Speaker 2: But I've heard his energy and his like way of
- 7:08Speaker 2: carrying himself. Height doesn't matter. He's just like he's just
- 7:12Speaker 2: like the lead.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, coming in hot. However, I was sleeping with someone
- 7:16Speaker 1: for a while okay this was years ago who was
- 7:20Speaker 1: like extremely close to him.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Oh like thick, thick, thick, and you never did you
- 7:24Speaker 2: get any tea on him?
- 7:25Speaker 1: Or no? Can I tell you what? I'm so not
- 7:28Speaker 1: that person. You don't want I need tea?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah I'm good or just like some I like tea
- 7:33Speaker 2: if it's like innocent, like if you knew that, like,
- 7:36Speaker 2: oh my god, he's obsessed with cats. He has like
- 7:39Speaker 2: seventeen in his.
- 7:40Speaker 1: House and like, oh my god, and I want to
- 7:42Speaker 1: talk about it.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's the kind of tea you know.
- 7:44Speaker 1: When people were saying when we ask people like what
- 7:47Speaker 1: do you want to see on the podcast? And they
- 7:48Speaker 1: were like, more tea, spilly. I'm like that ain't me. No,
- 7:51Speaker 1: I'm not the type of person where I hear something because,
- 7:52Speaker 1: by the way, I know a lot of shit.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know, you know, Yeah, you
- 7:59Speaker 2: totally do.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I can just tell like, I'm well aware of all
- 8:02Speaker 1: the Kathy Hilton stuff that went on behind the scenes.
- 8:05Speaker 2: You are, I've been reading about that. I'll have to
- 8:08Speaker 2: ask you off of the podcast.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I just it's not my I don't need to talk
- 8:12Speaker 1: about it, right, I know so much right that if
- 8:15Speaker 1: I were to run over to one of these little
- 8:16Speaker 1: Bravo blogs and share the tea is piping hot, the
- 8:20Speaker 1: English breakfast is ready to be spilled, all right. But
- 8:24Speaker 1: I'm just saying I just don't care, Like what is
- 8:27Speaker 1: you know?
- 8:28Speaker 2: What does it do for you?
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah? I'm the person who hears things and then I'm like,
- 8:34Speaker 1: oh cool, moving on. So this is not the podcast
- 8:38Speaker 1: to come to hear me spilling the teeth. I always
- 8:40Speaker 1: tell people, if you want good teeth, yeah, you head
- 8:43Speaker 1: over to the Juicy Scoop.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Speaking of tea, though, this is the tea tea you're
- 8:52Speaker 2: gonna get on.
- 8:52Speaker 1: This podcast, there's a lot of tea about myself.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I'm constantly telling you on MYLF but that is good
- 8:57Speaker 2: because you have the right to do that.
- 8:59Speaker 1: It's you that I could spill.
- 9:04Speaker 2: The lalla ta you'll hear is a lalat And I
- 9:07Speaker 2: are actually going to be in New York this week.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I need it so bad. Just I don't know what
- 9:12Speaker 1: it is about today. Yeah, I even post it on
- 9:15Speaker 1: social media. I'm like, I'm going to be very vulnerable
- 9:17Speaker 1: night right now, Like my life is so weird and
- 9:20Speaker 1: I usually wake up in a fantastic mood. And what's
- 9:23Speaker 1: weird is that, like TMI, right now, I'm like on
- 9:27Speaker 1: the tail end of your period, my friend, okay, And
- 9:31Speaker 1: it's usually at the beginning where I'm like a raging
- 9:33Speaker 1: and I know, I'm like, okay, lot, you just got
- 9:36Speaker 1: to like sit in the bed before you take everyone out.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You know why you're feeling this way. But I'm feeling
- 9:41Speaker 1: like that today. Are you just a little bit like defeated?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Like so I post it because I'm looking forward, like
- 9:48Speaker 1: I just want to go and be around people who
- 9:52Speaker 1: are uplifting to me and inspiring. And I'll be honest,
- 9:57Speaker 1: who want to show me a lot of love, Like
- 9:59Speaker 1: I need love right now. I'm a needy bitch right now.
- 10:01Speaker 2: You're a needy bitch right now. Yeah, I don't feel it,
- 10:04Speaker 2: but I I didn't even see that post. I'm going
- 10:06Speaker 2: to look at it right now. But what I love
- 10:08Speaker 2: about this it's event at shopify in Soho and you
- 10:13Speaker 2: can find the details about it on Lawless page and stuff.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But is that you get to just like it's almost
- 10:19Speaker 2: like tour because I remember how much you loved talking
- 10:22Speaker 2: one on one with your people before the show, and
- 10:26Speaker 2: this is like that where you're gonna be able to
- 10:28Speaker 2: talk to them one on one and take photos and stuff.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And I remember how much that seemed to lift you up.
- 10:34Speaker 2: So I'm excited lift that.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, because I feel like people that are coming
- 10:40Speaker 1: like they're just my people.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they're people.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I just want to feel like inspired. It's my first
- 10:47Speaker 1: ever pop up for the brand. So we're gonna have
- 10:49Speaker 1: like all my merch, We're gonna have beauty skin, give
- 10:53Speaker 1: them la la baby Like it's so people can come.
- 10:56Speaker 1: We can bump gums if you want to shop. You
- 10:59Speaker 1: can shop if you want to just have a drink
- 11:01Speaker 1: and bump gums like.
- 11:03Speaker 2: It's free to show up.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Just RSVP all you have to do. That's the other thing. Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's just an experience. Just click the yeah and show
- 11:11Speaker 1: it all in. If you want to buy something, you
- 11:14Speaker 1: buy something. If you don't, you don't like whatever, let's
- 11:16Speaker 1: just hang out. So I'll post it again. I'll post
- 11:20Speaker 1: the link again.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Coming to New York October first, I really really what
- 11:26Speaker 1: is going on.
- 11:26Speaker 3: With my three?
- 11:27Speaker 2: I had hiccups for five hours yesterday.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I haven't had hiccups since I was like a child.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Like Ocean gets them all the time.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I don't want to eat something spicy. Is that when
- 11:36Speaker 2: she gets them? When she eats something spicy.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Well, I don't give my one spicy food. Yeah, after
- 11:40Speaker 1: she has a Tabasco sauce, she really gets digg ucks.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I love you, jess Not a mom, You're.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Not so not a mom yet?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Epos? Does she get them too?
- 11:52Speaker 4: No?
- 11:53Speaker 1: She does not.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Sometimes I think like, oh my god, I could do
- 11:56Speaker 2: this mom thing. And other times I'm like I'm never
- 11:59Speaker 2: going to be able to have a baby because I
- 12:01Speaker 2: just don't know some things.
- 12:02Speaker 1: No, Jessica, you have a working brain, all right. When
- 12:05Speaker 1: you have the baby, you're gonna know, hot sauce probably
- 12:08Speaker 1: not a good idea for my one and a half
- 12:09Speaker 1: year old. Right back to what I was saying, Yes,
- 12:12Speaker 1: all you have to do is RSVP. I'm coming to
- 12:14Speaker 1: New York October first, is when you guys can come
- 12:17Speaker 1: hang out and play with me in Flameland. And also
- 12:22Speaker 1: Sophia Franklin, yes, is going to be there, and she's
- 12:26Speaker 1: the one who is going. We're doing like a little
- 12:29Speaker 1: one on one interview.
- 12:30Speaker 2: With a Q and a after. So if you want tea,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I mean, maybe Laala will spill, maybe she won't, but
- 12:35Speaker 2: you could at least ask.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Right by the way, that's the thing. I'm gonna overshare her. Yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 1: So when people ask me things, I haven't. I have
- 12:42Speaker 1: not conquered the art of being like next question.
- 12:45Speaker 2: No, not at all, Because on tour people would ask
- 12:48Speaker 2: her things and I would be like in the wings,
- 12:50Speaker 2: like shaking my head no, like don't answer it, and
- 12:53Speaker 2: then she would go off and I.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Was like, no, I know, I need to I need
- 12:57Speaker 1: to learn how to shut up.
- 12:58Speaker 2: No.
- 12:58Speaker 1: They loved it, well, yeah, and then I suffer the
- 13:01Speaker 1: repercussions of oversharing. It happens every time, that's true, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: the links in her bio.
- 13:06Speaker 2: By the way, I just I was checking to make.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Sure coming out with me because I'm needy and I
- 13:11Speaker 1: need you guys to lift my spirits. And by the way,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I post it because I'm leaving my mom at home
- 13:17Speaker 1: because I'm like, you know what, this is my time,
- 13:22Speaker 1: because I have like a few boys living in New
- 13:25Speaker 1: York where I'm like, you know what, come one, come all.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Maybe I don't care. We rip the band aid off.
- 13:32Speaker 1: There's no turning back. We'll see.
- 13:33Speaker 2: So if you see La La out and about in
- 13:35Speaker 2: New York with a fine looking man, mind your business,
- 13:39Speaker 2: keep walking your business.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Oh my god, I met the hottest guy over the
- 13:44Speaker 1: weekend too.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Can we Okay, so I saw a picture of him.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I mean, she's not lying, but can we get into
- 13:49Speaker 2: that at all? No, how you met him? Or do
- 13:51Speaker 2: you want to keep this all close?
- 13:53Speaker 1: I want to keep it close, keep it close for
- 13:55Speaker 1: right now, okay, right now, and then I want to
- 13:57Speaker 1: spill all the tea on it.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Oh my god, you.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Know see, let's just let's see. Today's episode is really
- 14:05Speaker 1: inspiring because you know, I love this podcast because we
- 14:08Speaker 1: can bring people on who have incredible stories and hold on.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Jess it's my mom. Okay, Mom, Hi, baby, you want
- 14:23Speaker 1: to see Cruisy? Say yeah, Okay, I go baby, I
- 14:33Speaker 1: love you. All right, I'm gonna finish this podcast. Hi,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna finish this podcast, and then I'm coming home
- 14:40Speaker 1: and we're gonna go to Britney's house. Okay, okay, all right,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I love you. Oh, I'll see you in a second.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I love you, Bye baby, Okay, bye bye bye? How
- 14:52Speaker 1: stinging cute? Was that? So about my guest? She wrote
- 14:59Speaker 1: me a letter. It was a letter that I want
- 15:02Speaker 1: to have framed because her story is devastating but absolutely uplifting,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and she's a survivor. She's a burn victim who is
- 15:16Speaker 1: now I believe, in the fifth grade, and I just
- 15:20Speaker 1: want you guys to hear her story. I think it's
- 15:23Speaker 1: important to hear people's stories, especially these young kids, where
- 15:29Speaker 1: they experience things that not many people have experienced. It
- 15:34Speaker 1: has shaped her entire life. And I mean the letter
- 15:38Speaker 1: she wrote me. I just I wrote her back and said,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I am so excited to see what you do in
- 15:43Speaker 1: your future because someone who's been through what she's been
- 15:47Speaker 1: through at that age, and just the way that she
- 15:51Speaker 1: wrote me and her mom is amazing. So I'm very excited.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Without giving too much away and telling you guys her story,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I want it to come from her and her mom.
- 15:59Speaker 1: So my next guest is Aliyah, and you guys will
- 16:03Speaker 1: hear her up next. Okay, I'm super excited about this guest.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Not only am I excited, I'm extremely inspired. Her name
- 16:15Speaker 1: is Aliah. She sent me a letter and the cutest
- 16:18Speaker 1: T shirts for me in ocean. Aliyah, how are you
- 16:21Speaker 1: my love?
- 16:22Speaker 3: Good?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Good? We like that. So for my listeners who don't
- 16:27Speaker 1: know you or your story, can you tell us about
- 16:31Speaker 1: who you are?
- 16:32Speaker 3: My name is Eliah Shepherd and I've born survivor.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, By the way, you're absolutely beautiful. I
- 16:39Speaker 1: mean that face. Hi Mom. We got Aliah's mama with
- 16:44Speaker 1: us too, Alia, are you comfortable sharing with my listeners
- 16:49Speaker 1: how you became a burn victim? Because I have your
- 16:53Speaker 1: bio in front of me, and just how old you
- 16:56Speaker 1: were and what that was like for you?
- 16:58Speaker 4: Yes, when I was eight years old, I leaned over
- 17:04Speaker 4: a candle and I barn for myself.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Well, the fire caught up to my suret into flyings.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And like when that happened? What I mean, Mom, were
- 17:15Speaker 1: you there?
- 17:16Speaker 4: No, So we had left to go to the store too.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Because it was my older daughter's birthday the next day.
- 17:24Speaker 3: So my husband and I left the.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Store with the other kids, and my oldest said, she's like,
- 17:29Speaker 4: my mom can watch to Leah.
- 17:31Speaker 3: We'll be fine, and I said okay. On our way back.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Is when we got the call from my oldest daughter
- 17:37Speaker 4: and all she said was Aliah's on fire, Houses on
- 17:41Speaker 4: fire and hung up the phone. So we instantly panicked
- 17:45Speaker 4: and sped home. We were probably like thirty seconds from home.
- 17:49Speaker 4: We pulled up, We ran upstairs to our apartment and
- 17:53Speaker 4: my oldest was just pulling Aleah out of the shower
- 17:56Speaker 4: and she.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Was completely burnt.
- 18:00Speaker 4: The whole front torso was burned, the whole back and
- 18:04Speaker 4: she had pieces of like her legs that were burned.
- 18:07Speaker 3: The whole back of her head was completely like singed
- 18:11Speaker 3: and burned.
- 18:11Speaker 4: All the hair was gone, and there was like little
- 18:13Speaker 4: fires throughout our house, and my husband started putting the
- 18:18Speaker 4: fires away, And at that time I worked at the hospital,
- 18:21Speaker 4: so my instant reaction was just to hold her arms
- 18:23Speaker 4: up because I knew if she put her arms down.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Then it was gonna stick together. And so we had
- 18:33Speaker 3: called one in one.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Ironically, there was two other fires going on in our
- 18:38Speaker 4: apartment complex at the same time as ours, due to
- 18:41Speaker 4: different things, and so every time we called the fire department,
- 18:46Speaker 4: they thought that we were calling for those ones. They
- 18:49Speaker 4: were all ready going off, so they weren't coming to
- 18:52Speaker 4: our house.
- 18:54Speaker 3: And so I ran outside.
- 18:56Speaker 4: We got one of the firemen and they came to
- 18:58Speaker 4: our house, and they knew they had to get her
- 19:00Speaker 4: to the hospital right then. And the shirt that she
- 19:04Speaker 4: was wearing is one of those sequin ones. Well, when
- 19:08Speaker 4: she leaned over the candle, that pulled the fire, and
- 19:11Speaker 4: so it instantly caught her on fires like she was
- 19:14Speaker 4: engulfed in flames like instantly, and all of those sequins
- 19:17Speaker 4: melted into her chest. And so when she got to
- 19:20Speaker 4: the hospital, they knew that they were that they couldn't
- 19:23Speaker 4: treat her because we lived in Idaho, and so they
- 19:26Speaker 4: knew they had to life flight her somewhere else, and
- 19:28Speaker 4: so they life flighted her to Utah. And when she
- 19:34Speaker 4: got to Utah, my husband had flown with her, and
- 19:36Speaker 4: I was pregnant with our last son, and the doctor
- 19:40Speaker 4: called and.
- 19:40Speaker 3: She was like, you me get down here now.
- 19:44Speaker 4: She's not gonna make it, and so I went into
- 19:48Speaker 4: panic mode.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I drove to Utah instantly.
- 19:52Speaker 4: She had coated on the way to Utah, and then
- 19:55Speaker 4: two more times in Utah, and the first week was
- 20:00Speaker 4: like the hardest week because everything kept going wrong, like
- 20:04Speaker 4: she was coding.
- 20:05Speaker 3: They didn't think she.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Was going to make it, and so she died and
- 20:09Speaker 4: they would have to bring her back. So she did
- 20:11Speaker 4: that three times, and so they were like, she's not
- 20:14Speaker 4: going to make it, and so they were having us
- 20:16Speaker 4: like make funeral arrangements, like preparing us, and uh, I
- 20:20Speaker 4: think that that was like the scariest thing in the world.
- 20:23Speaker 4: And then they put her into an induced coma and
- 20:26Speaker 4: then after that they were like, well, she's not going
- 20:29Speaker 4: to be a normal kid if she overcomes this, because
- 20:32Speaker 4: she was burned on over thirty nine percent of her
- 20:34Speaker 4: body with third, fourth and fift degree burns.
- 20:38Speaker 1: But she did a survivor right there, Aliah, do you
- 20:42Speaker 1: remember any of it? Yes, I mean, at the age
- 20:45Speaker 1: of eight, I can't even imagine. And then you know,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you just I mean I'm looking at you and you're definitely,
- 20:54Speaker 1: like I said, a survivor. And for someone to tell
- 20:58Speaker 1: you as a mom, I now can understand because I
- 21:02Speaker 1: have a daughter. If someone were to tell me, number one,
- 21:06Speaker 1: your kid is engulfed in flames and then their heart
- 21:09Speaker 1: is stopping, I mean, I can't even imagine what you
- 21:12Speaker 1: were going through in that moment. So after you find
- 21:16Speaker 1: out like she's going to be okay, you know she's
- 21:20Speaker 1: going to survive, what was the next step that they
- 21:23Speaker 1: told you to take?
- 21:24Speaker 4: At first, we still weren't out of the woodworks. So
- 21:28Speaker 4: every week was like a closer step two. Okay, we're
- 21:34Speaker 4: getting a survival rate. So with fifth degree burns, that
- 21:37Speaker 4: means that the fire has gone down into your muscle
- 21:40Speaker 4: and has now hit like your bones and stuff. So
- 21:43Speaker 4: they removed a lot of her muscle out of her back,
- 21:46Speaker 4: her arm, her hip, and they said that she want
- 21:49Speaker 4: to walk again, they said she want to ride again.
- 21:52Speaker 4: And we were prepared that, you know, we were going
- 21:55Speaker 4: to have a disabled child.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And then.
- 22:00Speaker 4: For us it was more like because both my husband
- 22:02Speaker 4: and I were very strong individuals, We've come from very
- 22:07Speaker 4: hard backgrounds, and so we're like, we can't do that.
- 22:10Speaker 3: We can't let her make this like a disability.
- 22:13Speaker 4: And so every time they would come in and want
- 22:15Speaker 4: to do something new, we'd get to try to encourage
- 22:21Speaker 4: her to do make sure that she did it, you know.
- 22:23Speaker 4: But then like so she's had thirteen surgeries so far,
- 22:29Speaker 4: and so and she's not done. So after the first
- 22:33Speaker 4: couple of weeks, like when we were in the we
- 22:38Speaker 4: were in like what I call the gray area of
- 22:41Speaker 4: either she'll make it or she won't. She had to
- 22:44Speaker 4: keep having autographs done and hemo graphs, and the autographs
- 22:52Speaker 4: are or sorry, the hemographs are when they use like
- 22:56Speaker 4: kadab or skin, and so they would use that to
- 23:00Speaker 4: her tissue back so that we could use or do
- 23:02Speaker 4: the autographs.
- 23:04Speaker 3: And so for her, she had five of.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Those done, and we spent almost three months in the
- 23:10Speaker 4: hospital in Salt Lake, and there we met so many
- 23:16Speaker 4: like the nicest people, Like Utah has some of the
- 23:19Speaker 4: nicest people ever, and.
- 23:22Speaker 3: We've like grew a whole family there in Utah.
- 23:24Speaker 4: But we uh would have to go through through physical
- 23:28Speaker 4: therapy daily, we'd have to go through wound care daily,
- 23:31Speaker 4: She'd have to she kept getting regrafted and then we
- 23:35Speaker 4: finally got to go home after almost three months. And
- 23:40Speaker 4: when we went home, she continued to have grafting done.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Actually goes next month for another surgery, surgery number fourteen.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Tiya because you said you'd worked in a hospital at
- 23:50Speaker 2: the time. Correct, had you ever seen anything like this
- 23:54Speaker 2: or dealt with anything like this or was a lot
- 23:56Speaker 2: of this sort of brand news?
- 23:58Speaker 3: Now all of this was brand I knew to all
- 24:01Speaker 3: of us.
- 24:01Speaker 4: So I worked in the lab, so I only you know,
- 24:04Speaker 4: mess with blood, that was it.
- 24:07Speaker 3: This was even for because we lived in.
- 24:09Speaker 4: A small town in Idaho, So even for our doctors
- 24:13Speaker 4: and our nurses there, it was like horrifying because they'd
- 24:17Speaker 4: never none of them actually knew how to handle this
- 24:21Speaker 4: situation right, And they were calling like other hospitals and
- 24:25Speaker 4: surrounding areas that did burn, like you dealt with burn
- 24:28Speaker 4: survivors and stuff, and asking them questions and so it
- 24:32Speaker 4: was pretty intense because we didn't know what to do
- 24:37Speaker 4: or any of that.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Well, yeah, how would you know what to do? I mean,
- 24:41Speaker 1: it's like, to be honest, I didn't even know that
- 24:44Speaker 1: fifth degree burns existed until I got your guys's letter.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You know, my grandfather I experienced he caught on fire
- 24:55Speaker 1: and had third degree burns on his back. So when
- 24:57Speaker 1: I read fifth degree burns, So I'm so glad that
- 24:59Speaker 1: you you said what that meant, that it goes to
- 25:02Speaker 1: the bone. How would you know how to deal with that?
- 25:05Speaker 1: So for her fourteenth surgery that she's going back for, first,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I want to ask you, probably a stupid question, Aliah,
- 25:12Speaker 1: you've been through thirteen of these. Is it something you're
- 25:16Speaker 1: used to or every time you have to go in
- 25:19Speaker 1: do you get nervous? I know that it's a really
- 25:21Speaker 1: silly question, but I just want to know.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Many times when I go in, I get nervous, but
- 25:26Speaker 4: then some like the other few times, I'm used to it.
- 25:30Speaker 1: All right, So the fourteen surgery, and what will that
- 25:32Speaker 1: one entail?
- 25:33Speaker 4: Right now, they want to do more lasering. She gets
- 25:36Speaker 4: lazed during every couple months and they may have to
- 25:40Speaker 4: do more grafting, and then we are waiting for a
- 25:44Speaker 4: time period. It might be like Christmas break or something.
- 25:47Speaker 4: She's gonna have to have a major surgery where nope,
- 25:51Speaker 4: showing there, She's going to have to have a major
- 25:54Speaker 4: surgery where they regraft all of her armpits and everything.
- 26:00Speaker 3: So when they do that, that's that Those are the
- 26:04Speaker 3: scary ones.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Those are the scary ones, yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Because usually she's very prone to staff infection. Okay, and
- 26:11Speaker 4: so those are the ones where they're scary like her
- 26:14Speaker 4: last one. She had her hips regrafted and she had
- 26:19Speaker 4: developed staff.
- 26:20Speaker 3: And merca in her hip. And so they have my
- 26:24Speaker 3: bleach faths.
- 26:25Speaker 4: And there's a big medical term for m but I
- 26:28Speaker 4: can't remember, but anyways, it's a bleach fath. So essentially
- 26:31Speaker 4: they're just pouring bleach over that open wound.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Wow.
- 26:35Speaker 2: And so.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Those are the scariest ones. So we're waiting for that one.
- 26:41Speaker 1: So I want to know, a Leah, what what do
- 26:43Speaker 1: you like to do? I mean, all of the things
- 26:46Speaker 1: that doctors told your mom and dad that you wouldn't
- 26:49Speaker 1: be able to do? Can you do them?
- 26:52Speaker 3: Yes?
- 26:54Speaker 1: That's dope. Well, yeah, what do you like to do?
- 26:56Speaker 1: Do you draw?
- 26:57Speaker 2: Do you play any sports? Do you You obviously send
- 27:00Speaker 2: amazing notes and packages. Lala got the cutest package from you.
- 27:04Speaker 2: But yeah, what do you like to do?
- 27:05Speaker 3: I like to play basketball and do art? I love that.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite basketball team?
- 27:13Speaker 4: No?
- 27:14Speaker 1: No, what about the Utah Jazz? I'm from Utah? You know.
- 27:19Speaker 3: The Utah Jazz did send her a package when she
- 27:21Speaker 3: was in the hospital.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I love that.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I did want to ask about the hospital because Aliyah,
- 27:27Speaker 2: you were in there for quite a while and I
- 27:31Speaker 2: know it sounds like you're still back. Did you kind
- 27:34Speaker 2: of make any friends with the nurses of their doctors?
- 27:37Speaker 2: I know, Tia, you said you met a lot of
- 27:39Speaker 2: amazing people. Were there any experiences did you kind of
- 27:42Speaker 2: like make friends with any of them or anything like that?
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yes, I had two friends in then, and I made
- 27:49Speaker 3: some friends with the doctors.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Oh.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I love that. I love that too. I love that
- 27:54Speaker 1: you said, by the way, you wouldn't know it by
- 27:56Speaker 1: watching me on TV, that I'm nice. But I feel
- 27:59Speaker 1: like I'm pretty nice and I'm from Utah, so I'm
- 28:04Speaker 1: I did want to ask you, Aleah one more thing.
- 28:07Speaker 1: You said in your letter that you sent to me
- 28:09Speaker 1: that you've experienced bullying, but it's from more adults than
- 28:14Speaker 1: kids your age. Do you feel comfortable sharing more about that?
- 28:18Speaker 4: Yes?
- 28:18Speaker 1: How do you feel about that?
- 28:20Speaker 4: Mama?
- 28:20Speaker 1: Well, I know Canda whoop as right? Sorry, cover your
- 28:25Speaker 1: ears a Leah.
- 28:26Speaker 4: So it's hard because you would expect an adult to
- 28:30Speaker 4: understand more than a child. But as an adult, I
- 28:35Speaker 4: guess you have more of an opinion. Whereas kids they're
- 28:38Speaker 4: just like whatever, Like they just go with the flow.
- 28:41Speaker 4: They don't care.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Even with you know, color, kids don't really see color.
- 28:46Speaker 3: They just want friends, you know, whereas adults they a
- 28:50Speaker 3: lot of them see that kind of thing.
- 28:52Speaker 4: And so we've had lots of comments come from adults,
- 28:55Speaker 4: or staring or just ignorant things. There's been lots of
- 29:01Speaker 4: times where I've had to hold my tongue because I
- 29:05Speaker 4: least apartment.
- 29:06Speaker 3: So I can't do the things I want to do.
- 29:10Speaker 4: But when it comes to kids, they just look at
- 29:14Speaker 4: her and they're like, dang, you survived that, whereas adults
- 29:18Speaker 4: are like, dang, are what's wrong with her?
- 29:20Speaker 3: Like what happened to her? Why does she look like that?
- 29:23Speaker 4: And that was one of the things that we had
- 29:25Speaker 4: to really instill in her is that she's, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 4: beautiful no matter what. And if somebody bowlies you, you
- 29:35Speaker 4: give them a compliment back, because if they're bowling you,
- 29:38Speaker 4: there's just something wrong with them.
- 29:39Speaker 1: I love that you say that, because I have to
- 29:41Speaker 1: take that, you know, like kill them with kindness. It
- 29:45Speaker 1: sounds like, you know, you hear that all the time,
- 29:47Speaker 1: but I've noticed that that kind of does put an
- 29:50Speaker 1: end to things when they start coming for you. It's
- 29:52Speaker 1: so interesting that these grown adults who are responsible for
- 29:56Speaker 1: raising children that you hope will go out into the
- 29:59Speaker 1: world and be productive and kind. And you know how
- 30:03Speaker 1: how do you fix that when like the parent who's
- 30:06Speaker 1: responsible for making that happen is an asshole?
- 30:11Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 30:11Speaker 1: Sorry, Aleah, I say naughty word sometimes again coming here, You'll.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Make this simple.
- 30:15Speaker 4: What did you say to the doctor when she told
- 30:17Speaker 4: you you want to be able to write again or
- 30:19Speaker 4: walk again?
- 30:21Speaker 1: She goes, the hell I want Yes, Queen, you better
- 30:26Speaker 1: tell them girl, I love it. I love That's the
- 30:30Speaker 1: best attitude. Can I tell you? When I read your
- 30:32Speaker 1: letter and I told you this at the beginning, you
- 30:34Speaker 1: are so inspiring and I want you to know that
- 30:37Speaker 1: there are gonna be people who are gonna say things
- 30:40Speaker 1: to you, but you keep that thick skin, Aliyah, because
- 30:42Speaker 1: it has nothing to do with you and everything to
- 30:45Speaker 1: do with them. And with this Mama you got, you're
- 30:47Speaker 1: gonna be just fine in life. And we are sending
- 30:50Speaker 1: you so much love for your next surgery. You're gonna
- 30:54Speaker 1: be amazing. You are amazing, and I am so grateful
- 30:57Speaker 1: that you guys took time to be on my podcast today.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Very much appreciate.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Like we said in the letter, we definitely weren't expecting
- 31:04Speaker 4: this when she started her business. We wanted to try
- 31:08Speaker 4: to give back to the people that inspired her, you know,
- 31:12Speaker 4: gave her some confidence, and you're definitely one of them.
- 31:15Speaker 4: She watches you because I watch you on you know, VANDR,
- 31:19Speaker 4: Pump Rules and everything, and so you know, she gets
- 31:22Speaker 4: to see your spunky side and how you don't put
- 31:26Speaker 4: up with bull crap and that's, you know, something that
- 31:29Speaker 4: she's been able to embrace. Especially when people are you know,
- 31:32Speaker 4: mean to you, you give it right back. And so
- 31:36Speaker 4: in a way, without you knowing, you've also helped her.
- 31:40Speaker 4: And so when she created her business, she wanted to
- 31:44Speaker 4: give back to those who unintentionally and without knowing helped her.
- 31:49Speaker 4: And you know that's why we sent that to you
- 31:51Speaker 4: because you were.
- 31:52Speaker 3: One of them.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Well, I'm beyond humbled and honored to be sitting here
- 31:56Speaker 1: talking to you guys. And where can people find your business?
- 32:00Speaker 3: On her Instagram and then it's also on Facebook.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Okay, and what is your Instagram?
- 32:05Speaker 4: It's Aliah dot Heart's on Instagram. Yeah, Instagram is more
- 32:11Speaker 4: of her business and on Facebook it's under Aliah's Journey
- 32:16Speaker 4: and that's more of We document everything. So anytime she
- 32:19Speaker 4: goes in for a surgery, anything, we document everything, because
- 32:23Speaker 4: we want people to see when you.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Fall hard, you can, you know, stand up and be
- 32:29Speaker 3: even stronger.
- 32:30Speaker 4: And that's what her business about is she wanted to
- 32:34Speaker 4: create something that would help others remember who they are
- 32:40Speaker 4: before whatever it was that happened to them happened. And
- 32:44Speaker 4: so that's what Aliah's heart is all about, is making
- 32:48Speaker 4: sure that others know how strong they are inside and
- 32:51Speaker 4: out and letting you know if you're you know, whether
- 32:56Speaker 4: it's physically a physical thing or mental or whatever it is, like,
- 33:01Speaker 4: you're beautiful no matter what, and you're strong, and you're
- 33:04Speaker 4: courageous and all of that.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Amen to that. I said it in the letter Early.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what you do in your
- 33:10Speaker 1: future because you, my love, are absolutely incredible. Thanks so
- 33:15Speaker 1: thank you so much
