- 0:00Let it go. Talk all we can. We can talk over it with
- 0:10the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trip podcast. Always always you didn't play with it
- 0:22yet, because that's why that's cool. That's talking to people. That's why
- 0:36they're great. Even what we're doing right now is better than what we've done
- 0:46in the past. Yeah, I'm just keeping organic. Well I don't.
- 0:52But what if you listen to it just on audio alone? It doesn't work?
- 0:57What do you mean, Oh, you don't hear? Does that audio
- 0:59level is at the same level as our mics exactly? So too bad.
- 1:04Send me the audio file of that and I'll put it through Da Vinci.
- 1:11Right, it's what two minutes long? I know it's two minutes long,
- 1:14right, something like that. Yeah, at about thirty seconds in I will
- 1:18have its audio just automatically go down to about it. I can do that
- 1:22too, Okay, that's all you gotta do is take it down to ten
- 1:23or twenty percent and then you don't have that issue. All right, I'm
- 1:29gonna I'm gonna put him a pool in the in the Facebook group and people
- 1:36can buy squares like it's Super Bowl saying yeah, happened? When will When
- 1:40will this get done. You know what, No, I should leave it
- 1:42for Chad because he has yet to turn in his own really yeah, yeah,
- 1:48yeah, you know what chest on that all season Caldo Watt has just
- 1:52been completely screwing up. Caldo Watt is though he's a watt of something.
- 1:57I don't know what to tell you. I don't know what to tell you.
- 2:00Well, I was on that mom and dad are fighting. Yeah that's
- 2:04right. We woke up and yeah, yeah, no, I mean I
- 2:10was on the road all week. I had a long week. I didn't
- 2:14really have the best stuff with me to really be able to request. I
- 2:17could have just done in the car, you know, like like thin sometimes
- 2:20when you see but yeah, I just yeah, you know that is Do
- 2:23you see that world's smallest violin playing just for you, buddy, thank you?
- 2:28Is that a violin? It's a little uh spot harp the whole lord
- 2:35the spot harp. M there you go? Oh boy? Righty? Then
- 2:40another week, there we are. It's Trek Cast, the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable
- 2:45Star Trek Podcast. I'm Chad, that's Dan, that's Daniel, even though
- 2:49the names don't come out right too, I don't know what utan too?
- 2:55What what is that the planet he goes to, that pike goes to or
- 2:59what? No, I use that? Uh? That that name generator that
- 3:04I sent you guys. Oh and uh I got I got out on two.
- 3:08Okay, I thought mine, I've been I've been using this for years.
- 3:12I probably told the story before. But when I wanted an unlisted phone
- 3:15number but didn't want to pay for it, I listed it in my room
- 3:17in my quote unquote roommate's name, which was this. So you know,
- 3:23back when, back when the phone book was a thing, you could you
- 3:27could look up land Doumbrado Yeah nah and find him in the I still get
- 3:31mail for him every now and then. That's like when I signed up for
- 3:35all those free CDs from Clearinghouse and w or whatever it was not CDWU.
- 3:40Yeah, yeah, I put it unto the dog's name. Was there a
- 3:44one to start with a B as well? Like yeah, yeah, yeah
- 3:50I did that for a while. I was like the first time I got
- 3:53a bill or got stuff, I was like, yeah, I'm stupid.
- 3:59I know. We put it in a dog named you build a dog,
- 4:02You're right boy? Oh well, yeah, my dog committed a federal felony
- 4:13fraud. Yeah, mail fraud. Awesome. Yeah, anyways, back to
- 4:19committing crimes. That's good to news. Yeah, So there's been a lot
- 4:30of news stories in the past few hours or past few days. Yer Trick.
- 4:35The the big one that is making the rounds is Prodigy has been officially
- 4:41canceled and will be removed from Paramountain Plus pretty soon, looking like at the
- 4:47end of the month. So that part, it doesn't make sense to me
- 4:55why it's being removed. Yeah, they're saying that it's for like tax right
- 5:00off purpose. Yeah, because then they don't have to pay whatever. Yeah,
- 5:03it's dumb. That just that just seems like a dick move. Yeah,
- 5:06it's you know, okay, you're canceling the show, but it's it's
- 5:11still part of your flagship franchise. I don't know, Chaz says, removed
- 5:18Discovery. Please would think about think about how much of a tax right off
- 5:28that would be removed? Five seasons of Discovery that one of the taxes for
- 5:32like three years. Yeah, like not even six months ago. They were
- 5:35touting that finally Paramount was the home of all the Star Trek, they had
- 5:41all the movies, they had all the series for like a month and a
- 5:44half and then they like sent the movies to to HBO. Yeah, still
- 5:50there was a shining month and a half. Such a mess. Yeah,
- 5:55it's it's such a mess. It's really not difficult cold either. Um well,
- 6:02I mean this is part of what they're they're they're striking for right now
- 6:06is the fact that they have to pay them residuals and they're not paying them
- 6:09much. So now the studios are just like, forget it, We're not
- 6:13going to pay you at all. I mean, um, HBO is currently
- 6:16doing a thing right now where they're not even listening their directors as directors,
- 6:20so that way they don't technically have to pay them as much at the current
- 6:24levels, and they're listing them as creatives, which is a different classification.
- 6:30You know, everyone, it's it's getting ridiculous. Everyone is cutting corners to
- 6:35save money. It doesn't matter if you're running a streaming service, if you're
- 6:42making a movie or designing a submarine exactly. And it's stress. Yeah and
- 6:51and and just like that stuff. It's not gonna end. Well, who
- 6:56are you going to send these stream We're gonna sell the streamings visit to If
- 7:00everybody's cutting corners, who are gonna who's gonna buy them? Yeah, you
- 7:03know, I don't know. I got enough. I'm ready to cancel a
- 7:08bunch of them because yeah, uh there is a change dot org petition because
- 7:14that's what we do on the internet going right now, Save Star Trek Prodigy
- 7:17right now. It's just just shy of ninety two hundred uh um signatures right
- 7:23now. To give you an idea, the Make Star Trek Legacy show has
- 7:29over sixty thousand signatures. Yeah, so that fork in it. Yeah,
- 7:35yeah, nobody cares about recording. According to Scott, it's our fault,
- 7:40that's right, our doing, yes, because we did not watch it.
- 7:45I didn't watch it. We didn't plug it enough. It's our fault.
- 7:47The blame falls squarely at our feet. They sorry, but they have shot
- 7:56well shot, it's animation and recorded season two. They plan on finishing it,
- 8:03like doing all the prose work, and then they're gonna shop it around
- 8:07to other streaming services so that streamer would get exclusive rights to season two to
- 8:13air it for the first time. How does that work though? How does
- 8:16how does that work? How does paramount? We're canceling the show, but
- 8:20we're gonna We're gonna finish it. But we're not gonna air it. We're
- 8:24gonna sell it to someone else to air it. How does that make any
- 8:28sense? Well, they've already invested X amount of dollars and they're so closed,
- 8:33so you might as well just complete it. They're not going to put
- 8:35it on their own service because then they don't have to pay those residuals.
- 8:37Like we talked about, it's also a tax ride off, but then they
- 8:39can pick up a little bit of extra money by letting somebody else actually stream
- 8:43it and air it um because the points if they air it themselves, then
- 8:50they don't make any that extra revenue off of it, and they pay it.
- 8:52Then what's the point of having your own streaming service? Then just sell
- 8:56your content to others? Well and stop with I mean, that's a streaming
- 9:03service. Sony is exclusively just selling it out to anyone who will do.
- 9:07And then remember when we did a recap on paramounts um stock UH Investor in
- 9:15call just a few months ago, I had talked about how some analysts were
- 9:18saying this is the move Paramount should do because right now they're just basically fighting
- 9:22for fourth or fifth place among the streamers. They should just get rid of
- 9:26paramount plus it just sell to whoever will buy m so I mean, yeah,
- 9:33I don't know who's gonna I mean for pennies of a dollar. Yeah,
- 9:41yeah, So, but we do have some good news. Um,
- 9:45this is coming from fansided dot com and start Chrek Deep Space nine audiobook is
- 9:50coming around the corner. Should be released in August first, and it will
- 9:54be narrated then none other by Andrew Robinson aka Elam Garrick. So the book
- 10:03he wrote a simple Taylor what was a Stitch in Time? His book that
- 10:07he wrote years ago? Oh yeah that was years ago, Yeah, that
- 10:11he wrote that. Yeah, we're finally getting around to doing the audio book,
- 10:16so I'm sure that will be the talk of STL. Have you listened
- 10:20to it yet? So I don't know, Yeah, all right, cool.
- 10:28I mean I'll probably get it and listen to it on the plane.
- 10:30So yeah, yeah, it's a good I mean just listening to some that's
- 10:33that'd be good. Yeah, I mean doing it in the Garrett voice,
- 10:37that'll be great. Yeah. So and then our last news story because I
- 10:41think this week has been very weird with with fake coups and fake subs.
- 10:48You know, we need a fake well, I mean they just gave up
- 10:52pretty quick. My god, three, World War three is coming. Yeah,
- 10:58oh yeah, it's coming. I don't even know what you're talking about.
- 11:01Fake kus What do you mean. I know about the sub but what
- 11:03do you mean by fake coup? Oh there was stuff in Russia. Yeah,
- 11:09they had to recall Russian troops from Ukraine to protect Moscow from from from
- 11:16their militia there. Yeah. Yeah, and then in the end they were
- 11:22they were like, uh, yeah, well they negotiated and and and he
- 11:26backed down and now he's gonna go live in Belarus and uh, you know,
- 11:31they're like, we'll give you a mansion in Belarus if you stop trying
- 11:35to overthrow Russia. And he was like you one month, lease, Oh,
- 11:39don't worry about it, don't worry about it, Just drink this kool
- 11:43aid. Exactly What is that guy thinking? Oh my god. Yeah.
- 11:50Anyway, yeah, if that deal doesn't come with a with a like a
- 11:52food taster, then I'm not interested. So anyway, So something fun,
- 12:01something nice. Last week we had reported that we had some news from Giant
- 12:05freaking Robot. But now we have the truth from Briety and we have the
- 12:07cap from Paddington three. Just stop, let this joke die please. I
- 12:18mean, we can preview the aw Forbidden Door pay per view. Oh lord,
- 12:22yeah, that's what I thought. There was something we were supposed to
- 12:26do one last week's show and just didn't And now I can't remember what it
- 12:30was. Oh, I know he talked about it. What was it?
- 12:33Because I thought about it like twenty minutes after I walked away from the computer
- 12:37and it's the voicemail from Tim Morris from across the pond. No, there
- 12:43was something else too. I mean we should definitely play that too. Yeah,
- 12:45yeah, but there was something else we were supposed to talk about.
- 12:46We're like, yeah, we'll talk about that later. And you guys are
- 12:48want to talking about the Flash. Yeah, we talked about the Flash.
- 12:52Yeah, so you did that. There was something else I did hear a
- 12:56very nerdy question that I could bring up to you guys if you want sure
- 12:58go for you or a love nerdy questions. All right, this is not
- 13:01surgic related, but you know people can can comment too in the group.
- 13:07But so here's the question. Batman is either committing insurance fraud or he's driving
- 13:18around the Batmobile without insurance to protect a secret identity. Which is it?
- 13:24Oh, he's driving it around without insurance. Yeah, he's driving it without
- 13:26insurance. But I mean he's essentially self insured because Bruce Wayne's just writing checks
- 13:33left hand right, Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, his body is writing
- 13:39checks it can cash. Well, it's not insurance fraud. He's just driving
- 13:43an uninsured motor vehicle, right, I mean, there's nothing right of a
- 13:48ticket for it. Yeah, well, no, it is illegal. It
- 13:52is illegal. He's also driving an unregistered motor vehicle. It's also traveling.
- 13:58I'm traveling. I don't know. I just I just go places, that's
- 14:03right. He also doesn't have a valid inspection on the No, no,
- 14:09no, no no, because you don't need that, because Arthur is a
- 14:11isn't as a license inspector. Probably who the hell is Arthur? I don't
- 14:16know, I said, Arthur. I'm like, that's not it's not Arthur.
- 14:20Are talking about Alfred? Alfred? Yes, the other one, Arthur.
- 14:26I don't know where I came up with Arthur, I said it.
- 14:28I'm like, I'm gonna get shipped for that. Oh Man and Commissioner Grubin.
- 14:37Commissioner Grubin who sings and every every scene he's in It's grobin oh that
- 14:43one. Yeah, Commissioner Josh Grubin, Arthur nickel Worth. I love it,
- 14:56Arthur, he's my favorite. Oh man, oh lord, all right,
- 15:09sorry, not sorry, that's okay, I don't care. Let's get
- 15:16to the main topic, all right, please, we don't have it.
- 15:28What what the log line from Paramount? Yeah? Yeah they forgot Yeah so
- 15:35people, So I go to the official Paramount uh public relations website every show
- 15:43to read the official Paramount log line two sentences what the show is about.
- 15:48They didn't update it this week at all. Term for they just do not
- 15:52care. Well, they don't. They don't want to pay the writer to
- 15:56type that up. Yeah right now, so they couldn't do that. Give
- 16:02it up. No, So it's this is the uh, this is the
- 16:07um Pike Attorney at Law episode. That's right, he believe the attorney but
- 16:12I mean uh or whatever it was. Yeah, yeah, Boston Legal.
- 16:18Um, there is an episode of Boston Legal where um Shatner ye meets seven
- 16:26of nine And so you've got you've got Jerry Ryan Shatner and uh Renee Arbage
- 16:33of whatever in the same room all at the same time, and both of
- 16:37the guys are staring at her breasts. It's hilarious. It's hilarious. It's
- 16:41an awesome scene and she just rips schatting her apart. It's great anyway.
- 16:45So it is definitely a trial episode. Um, you know, Pablo says
- 16:51it's a budget saving episode. I don't know about that. We had to
- 16:52get the old thing out of the world. It's definitely a budget saving episode.
- 16:56Oh yeah, I could tell what was not in the budget. A
- 17:00legal advisor, like they zero lawyers, looked at this script before they filmed
- 17:08this turd. Yeah, yeah, I will say as I did look up
- 17:15why they did not have Pike in the first episode, and the producers have
- 17:19said that it is because that's when he had they had the baby, so
- 17:26he was off being with his wife and child, so that's why he wasn't
- 17:30there. I would say, they don't shoot things in order all the time,
- 17:34so you you could have just changed up the way you shot things,
- 17:37and yeah, you could have been in that episode. So I say,
- 17:41nay, nay, but whatever. Play the whip at Anna's song. That's
- 17:48right. I did like this. Okay, there's several things about this episode
- 17:52that I actually enjoyed and This was interesting because it's not very often that we
- 17:57see any crew of any ship go down to a planet and have to struggle
- 18:06on that planet. Right, We just don't see that very often, wearing
- 18:07a mask oxygen because if it's not an M class planet, they keep driving.
- 18:14That's right, true, But I mean there's outliers to that, clearly,
- 18:18there has to be. So yeah, So I thought I thought it
- 18:22was interesting. I thought it was great. I loved how he just called
- 18:26their bluff, sitting there about ready to pass out and the until he got
- 18:29what he wanted. I thought that was awesome as well. I don't get
- 18:32the well I do, and I don't um get the animosity of this lady
- 18:36here the attorney. UM I don't I get it, but I don't.
- 18:41Deliriums are supposed to be smart. They're supposed to be genetically modified, you
- 18:44know, and and and be strong or whatever. But I guess because what
- 18:48else are you gonna do? Hey, you want to be her lawyer?
- 18:52Sure, she's upset because because um Una went and hid with the non Illirians
- 18:59on the planet, she didn't go to the Illyrian side of the planet,
- 19:02right because she can she can pass quote. I'm doing air quotes she can
- 19:06pass for non modified. And then to top it off, she went and
- 19:11joined Starfleet. So she joined the oppressive regime. That's why she's pissed off.
- 19:17Yeah, I guess so. I mean it just twenty years ago,
- 19:22thirty years ago, however long it was, right, I mean whatever,
- 19:26hold a grudge. Yeah, I didn't understand this whole thing, the whole
- 19:33episode. The major thing, there's a lot, a couple of major things
- 19:36with the major thing I didn't understand was why leon is even allowed in a
- 19:41uniform with the level of which they're going through. In terms of this genetic
- 19:45augumentation, she's the daughter of Nunion Sing, she's or descendant. I guess
- 19:48whatever. She's clearly got enhanced strength. This is just totally not even thought
- 19:56of her or it just totally skipped over because I brought this up a couple
- 20:03of times, um, and I guess it's because she's not genetically modified.
- 20:08She is the descendant of genetically modified people. So I guess, if you
- 20:17if you want a few generations removed, but if you want to, if
- 20:22if you want to, you know, Star Trek is all about allegories.
- 20:26Okay, Um, you sneak into this country. Uh, you know,
- 20:32without going through proper channels, you're an illegal alien. You have broken the
- 20:37law. You have a child here. That child is a US citizen.
- 20:42Doesn't matter what mom and dad did, that child is a US citizen.
- 20:45So I think it's the same in that someone before her in her lineage was
- 20:52genetically modified. But she is a human being and she was born a human
- 20:57being, so you can't hold that against her. No, No, I
- 21:07mean I could see that analogy. I think you know, they they purposely
- 21:15have left it vague enough. Yeah, because they don't. It's either they're
- 21:21gonna explain it later in this season or they haven't decided what they're gonna do
- 21:23with it yet. I would probably they don't know, because even like this
- 21:30episode, I feel like the cliffhanger last season, they wrote themselves into a
- 21:37corner and this is how they got out of it, and it just wasn't
- 21:42good. We could say the job. We did say that, or at
- 21:45least I think Dan and I land Dombardo and I agreed on this that they
- 21:52would get rid of the problem with UNA in the first half of the season
- 21:55rather quickly, as opposed to letting it go on the entire season. Yeah,
- 22:00we had we had a knee and projections whether it be over in one
- 22:04episode, right, yeah, so technically it was two, but still still
- 22:08yeah, pretty quick, pretty early, pretty quick agick and the chat asks
- 22:14why was Betel the jag officer. Isn't she the captain of the of the
- 22:18Cayoga lawyer and ship captain. Oh, that's on my list, that's on
- 22:22my list of ridiculous things. Now. I know in the past we have
- 22:26had high ranking Starfleet officers act as attorneys, um, but usually it was
- 22:34because we are out there somewhere and we have a limited pool of personnel to
- 22:42choose from, so the high ranking officers can act in this capacity. They're
- 22:48literally on Earth. They're literally on Earth. There's no competent lawyer that they
- 22:56can bring in to prosecute this case. They're going to use the starship captain.
- 23:00Right. I love what makes no sense? B twelve twenty six just
- 23:04said this show needs more strange new worlds. That's that's what I said in
- 23:07my quick reaction. Where where's the exploring in the Explorers show? Yeah?
- 23:12Yeah, well you got it in the first episode. Whether you like that
- 23:15one or not, Um, you didn't get it in the second episode because
- 23:18I had to do something with Una. Was that really exploring or was that
- 23:21just traveling to a demilitary zone? Yeah, that's a new world. That's
- 23:26a new world we haven't seen before. I'm talking about that's from the perspective
- 23:27of the view or it's a new it's a new world we haven't seen before.
- 23:30So so I follow I follow a guy on YouTube. I think he's
- 23:37called Legal Legal Legal. Yeah. I've probably talked about him before, Yeah,
- 23:41yeah, and his A lot of his videos are that The title is
- 23:45like real Lawyer reacts to such and such, and in the beginning, it
- 23:48was him reacting to different TV shows or movies. The very first one I
- 23:53watched was Real Lawyer Reacts to My cousin Vitty And surprisingly, you would not
- 24:00you would not think so, but surprisingly that movie is about legally accurate.
- 24:07The things that happen in the courtroom in that movie are are spot on.
- 24:12Um. This episode of Star Trek is the complete opposite. And I have
- 24:18my list and if you guys want to want to go, I'll go through
- 24:21my list. That guy's done a few Star Trek episodes too. Yeah,
- 24:25he's like check. So in the beginning UNA's offered a plea agreement, plea
- 24:33bargain, and she rejects it. Um rejects what they hadn't charged her with
- 24:38a crime yet, m um, which leads into the fact that she's been
- 24:45locked up for two months and they haven't charged her with the crime yet.
- 24:53Yeah. Okay, so all right, she's been locked up for two months.
- 25:00Um. And then we see her arrayment, or at least that's what
- 25:03the admiral calls it, Okay. In arrayment is where you're informed of what
- 25:07the charges are and you enter a plea and they set and they set bail,
- 25:14um and legal accouncil, legal counsels us there. Okay, So I
- 25:25means Una was in jail for two months without ever being charged with a crime.
- 25:30Federation law has always mirrored the US justice system. They call their civil
- 25:33rights guarantees. We've we've heard that before, like, oh, I'm gonna
- 25:37exercise the fifth guarantee or whatever. Um. So I'm fairly certain that Federation
- 25:42citizens have due process rights, including the right to a speedy in public trial.
- 25:48Or the writers don't actually know what an arrayment is. That's just a
- 25:52word that they used. Uh. That's likely the case, because we then
- 25:56see the arrayment. The Admiral refers to the next hearings as the arrayment.
- 26:02Um. And then they moved to amend the charges. But again, they
- 26:06haven't charged her with anything. So how can you amend something that you haven't
- 26:10that you haven't charged her with. Um. Is it that they haven't charged
- 26:14her or we just didn't see them charge her. If they're having an arrayment,
- 26:18they haven't charged her. Right, you're being charged, Yes, you
- 26:26are arrested. Then you are arraigned in front of in front of a magistrate,
- 26:30which is a judge telling you what what you're being charged with, asking
- 26:34you how you please to those charges, yeah, and then asking you if
- 26:40you have an attorney, and if you don't, they assign you one,
- 26:45and then setting bail to decide or or saying that they're not going to set
- 26:48bail and remanding you to the custody of you know whatever. Right, Okay,
- 26:53that's an arrayment that happens after arrest. She was arrested and just sat
- 26:57in a room for two months, and then they called this hearing an arrayment,
- 27:02but didn't do any of the things that you do at an arrayment.
- 27:06And then the trial starts and the first thing they do is ask her how
- 27:10she pleased to the charges. They don't do that at a trial, they
- 27:12do that at an arrayment. Yeah. Yeah. So, like I said,
- 27:18they could have just handed the script to like any attorney in the world
- 27:22and they would have said this is uh, this is all wrong. You
- 27:26know, you got to you gotta change this. Why Ispatel acting as a
- 27:30star as a as a prosecutor. Yeah, that made no sense. Um
- 27:40Okay, the whole asylum thing just doesn't make any sense at all. Asylum
- 27:51is when you ask one government or group to protect you from another government or
- 27:55group that is persecuting you. She wasn't fleeing persecution by Starfleet. She was
- 28:02living her best life. It's Starfleet, yeah right. And she didn't ask
- 28:07for asylum when she got a rest. No, No, that was nonsense.
- 28:10That was some made up shit that the lawyer came up with at the
- 28:14end. Right. And if you're seeking asylum, you can't seek asylum from
- 28:21the same organization that's persecuting you. That doesn't make any sense. A North
- 28:26Korean citizen cannot ask the North Korean government to protect them from the North Korean
- 28:30government because they're being persecuted by the North Korean government. It makes no sense
- 28:34whatsoever. Okay, So then the lawyer, her lawyer asks Lan says,
- 28:41I'll need access to the Starfleet Uniform Code of Justice. This is an obvious
- 28:45reference to the United States Uniform Code of Military Justice, which is the law
- 28:51for the for the military. She's an attorney and she doesn't have access to
- 28:56that on her own. I mean, what's that It's not in her database.
- 29:04You could google the UC on your phone right now. It makes no
- 29:08sense. It was one of those things where you know, we want to
- 29:11say this legal sounding phrase in the show, So we're gonna have her ask
- 29:15for this thing that she likely already has access to, so real quick pobles
- 29:22bring it up. They didn't think there's through uh, And being only this
- 29:26part of the season, it's not a good sign, I will say this.
- 29:29It's not that. It's that when things are not interesting, then we
- 29:33tend to pick it apart. And that's not the good sign I would say,
- 29:37because if if this was a fuinn interesting show, we'd gloss over a
- 29:41lot of yes, yes exactly. So. Laan references the case Starfleet versus
- 29:48Wick as an example of fruit of the poisonous tree which is a legal doctrine
- 29:53that is hundreds of years old at this point, that basically says illegally obtained
- 30:00evidence is not admissible in court. If the tree is poisoned, the fruit
- 30:04that you get from the tree is also poison Okay, why is she referencing
- 30:11this case from this legal doctrine that is hundreds of years old? She is
- 30:15essentially she's a military police officer. She is a police officer having a conversation
- 30:21with an attorney. They both know what fruit of the poisonous tree means.
- 30:26Why is she explaining it and and citing a legal case? But it's it's
- 30:33still it makes no sense. I know you, there's lap she could have
- 30:38She could have very she could have very well said, Um, I have
- 30:41reason to believe that the evidence against Una was obtained illegally, but it wasn't.
- 30:48But it wasn't. It doesn't matter. But that's the conversation they were
- 30:52having. Yeah, that's argument. Yeah, and then um, after a
- 31:00long talk about fruit of the boises tree, Lawn tries to order O'Hora to
- 31:04illegally obtain evidence that she can use to exonerate. Yeah. That was a
- 31:10stupid scene. Yeah, Yeah, that made no sense. Okay. At
- 31:15the trial, they ask Una if she consents to Patel as the prosecuting officer.
- 31:19Since when does an accused criminal have a say over who prosecutes them?
- 31:23That makes no sense whatsoever? Right, Uh? Just you know some of
- 31:34the when they when they have them quoting the law, it's just like,
- 31:40that's not how that would be written. UM. General Order one, also
- 31:45known as the Prime Directive, says quote and I you know, turned on
- 31:49the close captioning, no starship shall interfere with the normal development of any alien
- 31:56life or society. A starship is an inanimate object. Mm hmm. Shouldn't
- 32:02it instead say no star fleet officers shall interfere with the normal development event in
- 32:07life for society? And then I have to ask does the Prime Directive only
- 32:13apply to starfleet officers or to Federation citizens? Because WARF's brother was not a
- 32:21star fleet officer. Sergey and he remember he interviewed in the development of those
- 32:24those people they weren't around. The hollow dead came yep, and it was
- 32:29a big deal. It was like, oh, you violated the Prime Directive.
- 32:30Well does it apply to him? He's not a star fleet he's not
- 32:35a starships he's not a starship, but he's also not a star fleet officer.
- 32:40We can go down there, we just can't take the ship. Um.
- 32:45When uh, when UNA's lawyers questioning April, Patel objects multiple times and
- 32:52the judges just don't react to it. Yeah, you know, something happens.
- 32:58You object, you state, you state your grounds for the objection,
- 33:01and then the judge rules on your objection. She was just yelling objection and
- 33:05they weren't addressing it. And that's the other thing. She was just yelling
- 33:07objection. That doesn't work either. You have to state why this is in
- 33:12projection. I don't like the question that she's asking, right, Yeah,
- 33:16that's a mean question. Don't ask that. That's not how it works.
- 33:20Yeah. Um. And then after April's testimony, the one of the admiral
- 33:30stands up and and chastises her for attacking a starfleet officer on the stand,
- 33:37and then he decides that he just unilaterally decides his entire testimony will be stricken
- 33:42from the record. Everything. Yeah, everything, everything that was gone right
- 33:46out of the record. That an odd scene. Um. The defense quote.
- 33:52The defense calls to the stand three expert character witnesses. You call witnesses
- 33:58one at a time. You don't call three witnesses. She could state that
- 34:02she plans to call three witnesses and then call the first of her witnesses,
- 34:07but you don't call three people to the stand. Also, there's two things.
- 34:10There's an expert witness and there's a character witness. There's no such thing
- 34:14as an expert character witness. An expert witness testifies on subjects that they are
- 34:21an expert in a character witness testifies that, you know, hey, Chad's
- 34:25a good guy. I've known him since junior high school. It's two totally
- 34:29different things. But Land, what you're not what you're not understanding, is
- 34:32they needed, they needed to have that segment stretch out longer to fill the
- 34:36fifty three minutes or forty three minutes of airtime. And so that expert character
- 34:39witness sounds better. That's it. No, it sounds wrong. I know
- 34:45it's saying and there, hey there apparently there's no writers legal advisors in Hollywood
- 34:51anymore from the strike. I don't know. They just they screw this up
- 34:54so bad. I got a few more things. I'm almost one. Keep
- 34:57going. Yeah, producer has been like, we need a lawyer to advise
- 35:04on this, Who are gonna get a space lawyer? Nor? Yeah?
- 35:07Yeah, exactly yeah. Uh. During her closing argument, UNA's lawyer asks
- 35:13Patel to read from the Starfleet Code. Why read it yourself? M Why
- 35:17are you asking opposing counsel to essentially testify during your closing argument? It makes
- 35:23no sense. It's fully improper. I would object, no, read it
- 35:28yourself, objection. I'm not the one on the trial on yep. This
- 35:31is when you properly say object yeah, objection, your honor. I am
- 35:36not I'm not a character witness for the defense. So Captain Pike, Captain
- 35:43Pike for real, for real reading is yeah, exactly. Captain Pike didn't
- 35:47grant her asylum. He kept his friend's secret. Saying that he granted her
- 35:52asylum was mental gymnastics that the lawyer came up with at the last minute.
- 35:57Had he actually granted her asylum, he would have followed through and convene the
- 36:01tribunal as required by law. It's nonsense. They lied at the end to
- 36:07close up the episode. Everyone knows it's a lie, and the tribunal just
- 36:10went along with it. It makes it makes no sense. Pike knows it's
- 36:15a lie too, and he's just smiling. Yeah, so it's um.
- 36:20It's similar to the tired Star Trek trope of I know you disspayed orders,
- 36:24but it worked out in the end, so it's okay. It's just a
- 36:28last episode. Yeah. Yeah, so this is just a poorly it was
- 36:34just a poorly written episode. I'm glad the storyline is tied up. I
- 36:40just wish they did a better job of it because I'm eager to visit some
- 36:45strange new worlds and see some Star Trek. That would be great. Yep,
- 36:50hopefully the next episode. I don't know what. Did they give us
- 36:52any kind of a trailer preview of the next episode already? Dude, I
- 36:55did not. I've been so sick the past few days. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:59I look, I tried to find one. I mean I didn't look
- 37:01that hard. I wasn't gonna watch the weekend. But so this episode took
- 37:08me twice as long to watch the second time because I kept having to pause
- 37:13it to you know, make all these notes to ye, yeah, rip
- 37:17it apart today. So I like, I did like the Bulkan on opposing
- 37:23counsel, uh, just sitting there listening, and every once in a while
- 37:27he put up his hand on hotel like no, just stop, and then
- 37:30he finally gave up and gave his argument, which was was was good,
- 37:34I guess, but um, yeah, he should have been the one doing
- 37:37the whole thing. Honestly. Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm sorry you had
- 37:44to witness that out first, exactly, like, yeah, I like,
- 37:50I really do. I like him. He's hilarious. Yeah, yep.
- 37:57Yeah. Well, and it sounds like we all kind of feel the sim
- 38:00way about this episode, like it was just hopefully it gets better now.
- 38:06Yeah, well it has to, because the two major things that well,
- 38:08the major thing that they left hanging from season one into season two is now
- 38:13taken care of and out of the way. Well, the two major things
- 38:16really there was really there's really three major things that were left hanging. Who
- 38:21our new engineer Gul was going to be, thankfully we know that now and
- 38:23don't like her, and she wasn't in this episode, so that was great.
- 38:27What happens to Leon Okay, she's back now, okay, cool,
- 38:30that's taken care of, and what happens to Una all taken care of wrapped
- 38:35up. We can move on with the rest of the season now. Yeah,
- 38:37thanks for the three part cliffhanger. I mean, yeah, well,
- 38:46since uh, since I figured we kind of go through this pretty quick,
- 38:51I did want to go over the current Google trends and where we're at with
- 38:55Star Drink. Just is the season being well received, is popular? What's
- 39:00going on with that? So I figured we could we could look at the
- 39:02numbers in real time we see where we're at. So right now, let's
- 39:07look at Strange New Worlds as a search term. This is over the past
- 39:10thirty days. So the way Google trends works is a zero is it's not
- 39:15being mentioned at all. One hundred means that is the peak of popularity in
- 39:21a relationship been before. As you can see just before the premiere on the
- 39:25sixteenth, it was at the peak. It has fallen down a cliff since
- 39:30then, it's roughly forty five percent of where it's you know, the lowest
- 39:35and slight upticks since the latest episode has been reviewed at forty seven. So
- 39:42that's where we're at. But this is just people searching Strange New world The
- 39:45term coming up, okaying an indication of our people even talking about it.
- 39:51Well, here's the thing, right right before the show starts, that's people
- 39:58googling to find out the show starts when it's gonna be on when it drops,
- 40:02you know. And Okay, now I know it's on Thursday mornings.
- 40:07I don't need to keep googling it every week to find out it's on Thursday
- 40:09mornings, right, So I mean you have to kind of take that peak
- 40:15with a grain of salt. Yeah, So here's over a year when it
- 40:19was last release last July, about the same level of interest initially, and
- 40:24then it just kind of goes back down because now it's not out anymore.
- 40:29Yeah, and then back up to where we were. So now let's see
- 40:32the same thing with Picard, the other new sure that's been around, So
- 40:38the same thing over a year. As you can see, Picard maintained interest.
- 40:47You're cutting in and out because you got this website. But I don't
- 40:50know what it is when you pull up a web page. I think it's
- 40:52when he moves the mouse. Yeah, I think it's when I move the
- 40:53mouse. Oh my gosh, you're kidding. You move the mouse and your
- 40:57audio goes away? Yeah, apparently, can you running it's a mac I
- 41:01don't know, man kind of tin canny or the kind of goes to the
- 41:05bottom of the ocean. Right implodes. But you can see Picard was vastly
- 41:13more popular than Spange the world's on every possible level. Season three was a
- 41:19huge hit. It was a huge, huge, Yeah, absolutely huge.
- 41:23But now I want to see in comparison to other things, right, because
- 41:29could give us an idea. So right now major League Baseball's going right MLB?
- 41:34Yeah, okay, so in relation, that's kind of puts it in
- 41:42perspective. So so can you do one right now in real time? Yeah?
- 41:45Yeah, google Titanic submarine and give us like thirty days take the MLB
- 41:54off, Okay, so we can see the comparison between the other it is.
- 42:00Okay, remember that, Oh there you go, there you go,
- 42:16far more popular. Yeah yeah, So I think I was halfway through the
- 42:22week when I even heard about that that because I just I get all my
- 42:24news from Daniel, so uh, halfway through the week. I didn't even
- 42:28hear anything about it until my kids happened to mention, like did you hear
- 42:30about that? And like hear about what? Like that, there's a submarine
- 42:32that's going down, like submarine what and for I'm thinking of like a USS,
- 42:37you know whatever type I'm thinking of a major submarine not some tin can
- 42:42with a bunch of billionaires in it, each paying two hundred thousand dollars to
- 42:44die, like just not the USS cardboard box. Yeah exactly. I mean,
- 42:50you know, in all honesty, it's sad. Okay, guys died.
- 42:52They were just trying to go and explore and have some fun um.
- 42:58But also like they signed up for it, knew the risks like you can't
- 43:02go that deep and not and nobody, I'm sure nobody had the conversation with
- 43:07them of oh, it's perfectly fine, just hamy a quarter million dollars.
- 43:10We'll be back up in a day. It'd be It'll be cool, no
- 43:12no worries, no risks, perfectly safe, no harm. I'm sure that
- 43:15wasn't part of the conversation. I'm sure the CEO of that subcompany where he's
- 43:22just like safety, waste of money and time, breaking rules. I'm gonna
- 43:25be remember, he says, I'm gonna be remembered as the guy who broke
- 43:29rules to get stuff done. Yeah, you broke some rules. Remember jail.
- 43:32He's going to jail. He's dead, he's dead. He was on
- 43:36that true, that's true, that's right. He was on the ship.
- 43:37Yeah, yeah, well, I mean, you gotta give him that.
- 43:40He literally went down with the ship, went down with the ship. Yeah,
- 43:44like a real captain wood. Yeah, it's wild. Wow. Meanwhile,
- 43:49there's a ship that had like seven hundred recuvgs that um sank and nobody
- 43:54cared about that. Apparently there was no international outcriding will help them. Where
- 44:00was that? Um? I believe somewhere in Europe if I remember right,
- 44:07But yeah, happened around the same time. Nobody cared about that. Billionaires
- 44:12in a tube go down. That's what we save. That's right. It
- 44:15was piloted by an Xbox controller, PlayStation two still whatever? Yeah, yeah,
- 44:21yeah, yeah, So well should we get to feedback? Yeah?
- 44:30All right, hey hey hey, Bronson's right. It was in Grease.
- 44:44My bad, Thank you Bronson. It was increased. Okay, so that
- 44:50got canceled too, Grease pink ladies. That's right, darn, I was
- 44:55just about to watch that. Whatever. Yeah. Um, let's see,
- 45:02I'm gonna go back and find the all right, I'm gonna change this because
- 45:06I got a bunch of stuff in there. Here it is I should have
- 45:12two. Well that's weird. What are you mumbling about? Yeah? I
- 45:19should have two voicemails here, one from Tim and another one that came in
- 45:21here just a few days ago. Um, okay, I'm trying to pull
- 45:30it up and find in the email. All right, okay, say they
- 45:32say in radio that dead airs. I know I neverst think you could have
- 45:37it. Just much give us, give us a lot, And here it
- 45:39is here it is start whistling or something. Good morning Trek fans. Hope
- 45:46you're well. It's Timmy here. It's been a while. Um down south
- 45:51coast of England. It's a beautiful day here. Windows are down in the
- 45:54van. I'm off to look at a integrated washing machine today where there is
- 46:00no motor action. So I shall be sorting that out in about half an
- 46:05hour. But I wanted to say I really enjoyed your last show with the
- 46:07Star Trek Quiz. I giggled and chuckled at three fifty nine nine one one,
- 46:17or as I was going ninety one one, and I really enjoyed it
- 46:22the way well he's not technically, he's not wrong almost for every question.
- 46:29So I really enjoyed it. And look, if you need anybody from this
- 46:32side of the Atlantic, then give us a call, because I'd love to
- 46:37join in at any point. Obviously, no pressure, but if not,
- 46:42I'll just chuckle at you guys, messing about great times, enjoyed the show
- 46:47and strangingly world coming up soon. Do you know, I'm not really that
- 46:52excited it's been It's all right, I like answer mount, but he's not
- 47:00missing anything. It's that kind of thing because I've been rewatching Next Generation and
- 47:06a bit of Voyage and dsnine. We should proper star Trek. WHOA.
- 47:12All right, guys, I didn't mean it like nights. I'm driving with
- 47:19my knees. What I got the phone to my ear. We do not
- 47:25condone that, and I'm sure I will speak with you soon at some point.
- 47:30I care you. Bye bye. So he's got he's working on his
- 47:35trucker stand because he's got his arm out the window and occurred it occurred to
- 47:39me that he's across the pond. So his trucker stand is the opposite of
- 47:45my trucker stand. YEA, we left arm. M hmm, that is
- 47:50correct. No, it's my left arm would be his right arm, and
- 47:54we have aw whatever. I don't know why this one came. This one
- 48:02came in weird. I'm not sure if this is going to play right this
- 48:05this came in on a wrong email. I don't know. The following is
- 48:10a pac led review. The views and opinions expressed by Strong Beer do not
- 48:16necessarily represent those of Paramount Plus or the trek Cast podcast and then now star
- 48:28Trick Strange. New World Season two, Episode two, The Measure of a
- 48:34Man, Part two a pac led review, boring court show. Thanks for
- 48:46listening to a pac led review. That's about right, you know, I
- 48:53will say reaction overall online as people did like this episode overall, really overall
- 49:00yeah, okay, especially compared to the to the episode one. Well they're
- 49:05wrong. Well, I'm just saying overall the people liked it. That's funny
- 49:09Chad telling people they're wrong yet just that was rich. It must be they're
- 49:15right. I don't know. I'm not sure how that really works. We've
- 49:23we've got a We've got l Woods here joining us too. There is turning
- 49:31it law. Yeah, I'm legally guys, so you gave. I'm gonna
- 49:38bring in Habeas corpus in here, so legal term I know, I act.
- 49:52Yes, this episode I agree with the pack lad to review. It
- 49:55was very very slow pacing, needed be storyline and I don't think Nurse Chapel
- 50:02said one word. She doesn't have to. That's fine. Well, it's
- 50:08gonna get paid. She has to speak like so many lines and they get
- 50:13paid. Let me tell you something, man, Nurse Chapel could do whatever
- 50:19she wants. Yeah, I know she's the hot one. So but this,
- 50:27this this episode was just the pacing was oh man, it's the snail's
- 50:31pace. I had a hard time. I stayed up the way I am
- 50:36to watch this, and then I was like at the end, I was
- 50:38like, oh my god, you should. I should go to sleep in
- 50:44the morning. It's not Star Trek hard. So next week, I'm I
- 50:51don't know, Am I gonna stay up late next week? You will early
- 50:54in the morning? You will? You will fix you will. Yeah,
- 51:00I gotta see that strange world. So hopefully i'll see something strange. I
- 51:06mean, technically they did give us a strange new world this week. Pike.
- 51:10You know, Pike had his uh his COVID mask and uh, well,
- 51:19if you notice when they're sitting at the tables and everything, they're all
- 51:22almost six feet apart. They're all spread out really far. But even when
- 51:27he's talking to his girlfriend in the like ten forward or wherever it is in
- 51:31the ship. She's like so far away at the table. It means they
- 51:37did shoot quite a while ago. Yeah, it's still it's still a thing.
- 51:42You watch, uh you watch news news shows, and the anchors are
- 51:45still sitting you know, further apart than they did five years ago. Yeah,
- 51:50because each other. Yeah, then they never went back to normal.
- 51:53Yeah, the rest of the world has forgotten. But yeah, you go
- 52:00to a baseball game, football or whatever, and it's like nothing's changed.
- 52:04So I was passing the Walgreens the other day and I looked on the marquee
- 52:07and it said COVID nineteen booster shots, and I was just like, is
- 52:12that still a thing? Yeah, he talks about it anymore. Yeah,
- 52:17let's say, yeah, some people get up and some people don't. You
- 52:22know, it's like the flu shot, you know. Yeah yeah yeah.
- 52:27But this episode, slow, slow, slow, I wish In my notes,
- 52:31I wrote, man, this show is boring, and at the end
- 52:39and then all the legal jargon, it's like, well, we know she's
- 52:43gonna win, And what kind of made me mad at the end is well,
- 52:46not mad. But reading the comments online, people were comparing the show
- 52:52saying it's better than measured than a man. Absolutely, no way not.
- 52:58Yeah. I read several posts saying that so this episode is from what I
- 53:02saw that was very minority opinion. But if you'd see quite a bit of
- 53:07it's as good as measure man, yes, or it's best legal absolutely not,
- 53:15absolutely not. Those must be Discovery fans leaving comments. I think so
- 53:22I think or boy about with pink hair. So how do you feel about
- 53:30Prodigy going away? Well, I'm sad, but I can see it.
- 53:35I think. Really, what I think paramounts to do is do like old
- 53:38Star Trek did, is syndicate the shows and maybe shop them around. I
- 53:45mean that's what they're gonna do with with Prodigy, shop them around. Because
- 53:50this streaming model that there's too many streaming services. Everybody has a subscription to
- 53:54something. Even YouTube channels have like a subscription like you know, yeah they
- 53:59have you know, ad Patreon and all this other stuff, and everything adds
- 54:04up and we're you know, the economy is not the greatest right now,
- 54:08and you know when inflation hits, people start cutting things, and they start
- 54:15cutting streaming services and understandable it down. Yeah, yeah, because I'm thinking
- 54:22Netflix right now because it's like well, Star Trek's not on there, so
- 54:27yeah, yeah, I mean do you watch Disney, so we've got um,
- 54:35you got Star Wars Secret Secret Invasion starting there and everything else. There's
- 54:38a lot of stuff going on Disney. So when does that start? It
- 54:42just did? Yeah when was the first episode? Like yesterday? Really whatever?
- 54:50Yeah, I'm gonna go watch that. There's actually a lot of stuff
- 54:53on Apple TV right now too, which I'm watching, like almost every new
- 54:57thing they put out, I watch and it's interesting, it's fun. Like
- 55:00Ilo, right, that's one right now with Rebecca Ferguson is great. It's
- 55:02fantastic. I've been watching The Bear season two. It's good. Is it
- 55:08better than the first or comparable? It's different. It's very different, not
- 55:15in a bad way, it's just completely different. Are they still arguing with
- 55:19each other and yelling? Yeah? Yeah, still all that stuff, but
- 55:22it's just different arguments. Show is I don't even know what that show is.
- 55:28It's cool. But that's the prequel the Cocaine Bear. Yeah, that's
- 55:31right, this is how we get the cocaine introduced. Yeah, and then
- 55:42season three will be Marijuana Bear because that's the gateway. Yeah, it'll be
- 55:49all be in San Francisco. So all right, we still got Hipster Spock
- 55:53waiting in the wings, so we sho oh boy. Yeah, okay,
- 55:58hopefully next week this show picks up. Thanks guys for letting me on here.
- 56:01I'm hoping thanks for coming on. Yeah, the next few episodes.
- 56:06You know, let's let's be hopeful. It's not over. You know,
- 56:10don't back the truck up. It's it's still going. You know, we
- 56:15got eight more episodes. So yeah, no, I'm still excited for the
- 56:19show. Just to eight more episodes. Let's let's do it. Thanks a
- 56:22lot, see later, Ellwoods, all right, see all, thank you.
- 56:29All right, so we got hipster Spot. Let's bring him on.
- 56:32Let's go hi he gets going to the hipster Spot. I'm gonna issue a
- 56:36challenge. Can you not mention woke at all? Well? I can actually
- 56:47all right enough, have two uh two things to bring up. Okay,
- 56:57yeah, one thing. Um, it's nothing to do with this episode,
- 57:00just just something that I've been thinking for a very long time and um kind
- 57:07of thinking. Okay, Um, for the rest of the H Alpha and
- 57:12Beta quadron, right now, Earth is basically the backwaters, right um,
- 57:16like some third world country that nobody's ever heard of. Basically like these Amazonian
- 57:22tribe right now, right and then, But how the hell did um humans
- 57:30end up running the show with it after like a hundred something years of um
- 57:37first contact. That's just how good Archer was. Yeah, we're just we're
- 57:43awesome for humans, I mean humans or the ultimate diplomats to get everywhere to
- 57:50work together. Yeah. Yeah, we got the wrong or the Vulcans and
- 57:54the Andrians and the Telerides to all work together, and that's why we kind
- 58:00of became the leaders. The federation has always been, I mean even Jane
- 58:06Ronberry said this back in the day. The federation is the United States.
- 58:09The clans are the are the Soviet Union, and the and the Romulans or
- 58:15the Chinese or whatever. No, no, So if if you look at
- 58:21that analogy, I mean, the United States is a young nation in the
- 58:24history of the world, and they are essentially the leaders of the free world.
- 58:30So I guess it's it kind of it kind of goes with that after
- 58:36World War three, humans got their stuff together. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 58:39true. I can't wait. I can't wait. Yeah, I hope that
- 58:45there's no World War three and get their ship together. Like, sorry,
- 58:50did I curse? That's okay, because I'm gonna I'm gonna curse. I'm
- 58:54gonna curse. In response to that, you could ship in one hand and
- 58:58wish in the other and guess which one is gonna fill up? First?
- 59:02That's true and second second thing. Okay, that's that's a pretty valid issue
- 59:08like or argument. Like, um, the humans basically got everybody together,
- 59:15and uh, and since they were the ones who connected everybody, they said,
- 59:20okay, yeah, we're we're just gonna be in charge from now on,
- 59:23right, Well, because we were the only ones people would listen to
- 59:27everyone, Okay, because didn't. And I don't think they're in charge per
- 59:32se. I mean the you know, the Starfleet headquarters is on Earth is
- 59:38in San Francisco. But we've seen over the years, we've seen uh,
- 59:43you know, the Federation president, and it's not always a human being.
- 59:45It's you know, some aliens. We don't even know who it is,
- 59:51right, like yes, nine, it was some other some eight alien dude,
- 59:55yea yeah yeah. In Star Trek six it was Kurtwoods us ms uh
- 1:00:01keep calling everybody dumb ass. Yeah, the great hair, facial hair,
- 1:00:08the white yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, um. My second thing
- 1:00:16is that, Okay, I know that Paramount's um not making a lot of
- 1:00:22money these days because um uh streaming not being so good and all that stuff,
- 1:00:30and they have to save a lot of money. But then couldn't they
- 1:00:34just expand to I mean a lot of other UM markets, Like why don't
- 1:00:40they make a push in Asia for example? I mean I knew the answer
- 1:00:45to this, um oh, because a lot of their their catalog has been
- 1:00:53UM distributed out to like Amazon or Disney Plus or whatever in the those foreign
- 1:01:00markets, and so they can't use their own materials because they're under deals do
- 1:01:07not distribute them in those markets. They have to wait until those deals run
- 1:01:09out and have enough of the catalog to then go to those markets and have
- 1:01:15it. That's why that And depending on how those deals are written, I
- 1:01:22mean, they may have automatic extension clauses where they have first right of refusal.
- 1:01:29It's I mean, it's similar to the you know, Marvel made this
- 1:01:31deal with Sony twenty five years ago, and as long as Sony pumps out
- 1:01:37a Spider Man movie every I think it's like four years or something like that,
- 1:01:43they get they get to keep those rights and basically what that means is
- 1:01:46unless Disney makes a new deal with Sony by buying out that contract, they
- 1:01:52will never ever, ever ever have Spider Man Alton themselves ever again. And
- 1:01:57then each country has like weird rules too, Like I know they were talking
- 1:02:00about this in France, you can't put a movie that was just recently in
- 1:02:07theaters onto your streaming service. Like in France, it has to be like
- 1:02:09a year and a half since it was in theaters before you can put it
- 1:02:14on your streaming So that's France trying to that's France trying to protect the theater
- 1:02:20business. Correct, Yes, yeah, yeah, So it's all local laws
- 1:02:24and different things. It's not just as easy as flipping on the switch and
- 1:02:29let's go. Yeah. I mean, like, okay, that that makes
- 1:02:35a lot of sense. But then I'm thinking, like, Okay, if
- 1:02:38we really wanted to like preach this in Roddenberry like philosophy and what not the
- 1:02:45rest of the world, so we get a situation that's very similar to what
- 1:02:52is actually happening in Star Trek, then um, it would be good to
- 1:02:58like get everybody else in the world to like sort of sign on to this
- 1:03:04stuff. But I guess, you know, entertainment is in money making thing,
- 1:03:09right, I mean, that's why it's a show business, right,
- 1:03:12Yeah, yeah, yeah, and that's what made Discovery profitable is they were
- 1:03:20selling it to Amazon and Netflix and so yeah, you may not have had
- 1:03:23the numbers. We don't know because they don't release streaming numbers. That that's
- 1:03:29one of the things the writers strike is fighting about right now, is they
- 1:03:32want numbers. They want to know how successful their shows are or not.
- 1:03:37So which very interesting. Yeah, as much as I um think, okay,
- 1:03:45yeah, they the studios could just do everything on GPT, but then
- 1:03:51I can't see it from the writer's point of view where the writers really no
- 1:03:57can really connect with the audience and the human way basically, and so there
- 1:04:02you always need some human writer to to come up with things. But then
- 1:04:08you can always do some quality check on GPD or whatever, and so yeah,
- 1:04:17I can see it from the writer's point of view, and yeah,
- 1:04:21they after seeing all that stuff, I can recognize that they do get screwed
- 1:04:29on some of the things that the streaming um does. Like okay, if
- 1:04:35you get if something gets streams some x amount of times across x amount of
- 1:04:42screams, shouldn't the writers get a cut up at as well or whatever.
- 1:04:46Right, So chet GBT is not good enough to create new things. It
- 1:04:53only it's like you ask it, draw me a picture of a horse,
- 1:04:58and what it'll do is make a collage and not draw the picture. It
- 1:05:02can't create. It has to use what has already been made to then create
- 1:05:08predictive algorithms to then approximate something. So have you ever used chat GPT.
- 1:05:14It doesn't draw pictures. No, but I'm giving a metaphor for how it
- 1:05:17works. Okay, yeah, so for it too, Like if you type
- 1:05:24into it, give me a Star Trek episode, it'll give you an approximation
- 1:05:29because it has a history of Star Trek episodes to go. But if you
- 1:05:32went to and said, create me a new series, it might because there's
- 1:05:38histories. But it's not going to be well thought out. It's not going
- 1:05:41to be at you know, as well put together as actual people going through
- 1:05:46it. And the more you use this, the pool that it pulls from
- 1:05:50it will be more going to be is going to be more AI created.
- 1:05:55I'm contract to my version of chat GPT right now, and we're going to
- 1:06:00come up with a script because the way you're wording this, Daniel is incorrect.
- 1:06:06So that's twice chat selling people that're wrong. I know, just the
- 1:06:14way it is. Okay, So chat GPT when it first came out in
- 1:06:17December, was pulling from a block of data from about three year period of
- 1:06:23anything I could grab, anything can get a hold of off of the Internet.
- 1:06:26It wasn't at that point able to pull anything live from the Internet as
- 1:06:30of like two months ago, two and a half, a month and a
- 1:06:32half ago. It's all of that. So it's everything for the past three
- 1:06:35years that they could scrape and put together to build these AI tools as well
- 1:06:40as it's pulling live from from the Internet now as well. So it's totally
- 1:06:45different than what you just described. M barred is horrible, by the way.
- 1:06:51So let's do this, um, and you write an outline of a
- 1:07:00script for a Art Trek episode containing and this is just me typing it up,
- 1:07:12containing Spock and Captain Kirk. All right, we're just gonna thank Spok
- 1:07:19at Captain Kirk. Main plotline is that the captain is stuck on a planet.
- 1:07:30Right, But already you're framing is wrong because what characters are you going
- 1:07:36to create? Because you're already using existing characters that somebody else created, not
- 1:07:43chat GPT. Yeah, I'm just giving names, so let's change it.
- 1:07:45Then how about that so containing um original taining a doctor. But that that's
- 1:07:54all we give a name containing a doctor. This is this is my point
- 1:07:56though, Daniel, this is what you're missing, containing a doctor and cap
- 1:08:00Then Captain Land Dombardo okay, and Vincent Laguardi again, b there you go.
- 1:08:12Act one, opening, the starship uss O Ryan, under the command
- 1:08:15of Land Dombardo, receives a distress signal from then unknown planet and the Delta
- 1:08:18Quadrant two. The crew investigates and discovers a mysterious energy anomaly surrounding the planet,
- 1:08:24making it impossible to beam anyone off or communicate with the ship. Three.
- 1:08:29Captain Dombardo decides to leading away team, including the ship's doctor, to
- 1:08:31investigate the situation of the planet's surface. For as they transport down, the
- 1:08:35energy anomaly destabilizes, trapping Captain Dombardo and the away team on the planet.
- 1:08:43That's Act one. Act two, Captain Dombardo and the doctor find themselves stranded
- 1:08:46in an unfamiliar and desolate landscape, cut off from the crew and the ship
- 1:08:50one. They realized that the energy anomaly was initially designed to trap them on
- 1:08:54the planet, raising questions about the planet's origins and its purpose. Two,
- 1:08:58while searching for a way to escape, if they encourage indigenous alien life forms
- 1:09:01peaceful beings who are also trapped on the planet, the encounter I mean,
- 1:09:06and then the three the doctor end with her medical expertise, attempts to communicate
- 1:09:11and establish a mutual understanding with the alien beings. Act three. This goes
- 1:09:15on Act four, Act five. I mean, right, but I want
- 1:09:18to watch this episode, yeah, exactly, and I get off this planet
- 1:09:23exactly. The point here is is this is an excellent outline. This is
- 1:09:27an excellent framing tool to then be able to use it and create more in
- 1:09:30depth whatever you want to use. Right, Is it good because you,
- 1:09:32as a human being, had to name the character. It's pulling from other
- 1:09:35scripts to create an outline and a story structure. Does it sound better than
- 1:09:40the episode we just watched already? But what I'm saying is it's not independent.
- 1:09:46You can just use chap GPT and it's it's not a script, it's
- 1:09:51not a scriline. I just said, it's an outline. It's an outline,
- 1:09:54and I know. And here's the thing. The outline for the show,
- 1:09:58the outline for the show that he just watched, says, uh,
- 1:10:03courtroom drama to decide whether Una remains in Starfleet or goes to jail, And
- 1:10:10some person has to put in all of the dialogue and all of the legal
- 1:10:15jargon, and maybe they'll do a good job, and maybe they won't.
- 1:10:20And I'll have three pages of notes on it. So you can't just it
- 1:10:27can't write a whole script. That's what I'm doing. No, and I'm
- 1:10:30not I'm not arguing that it can write the entire thing for you. I'm
- 1:10:32telling you that it could write you an entire outline. Though. And when
- 1:10:35you say, well, it has to pull from existing stuff, what is
- 1:10:39it pull done from? What is it pulling from? It's pulling from the
- 1:10:42existing Star Trek bible, what we know about Star Trek. I guess my
- 1:10:46point here is is if somebody would have done that right there, what I
- 1:10:49just did for every episode of Discovery, maybe two thirds of those episodes wouldn't
- 1:10:54have sucked. I mean maybe, but but we don't know. And it's
- 1:11:00just a tool. Guys. Yeah, okay, Well you're making it sound
- 1:11:03like, let's replace the writers with this thing. No, no, no,
- 1:11:05I think the writers, the writers need to use this. This is
- 1:11:10a tool the writers should use because like I like, just instance, that
- 1:11:14one episode that it just spit out that well, that outline would have been
- 1:11:16infinitely better than the episode we just watched. That's the point I'm getting it.
- 1:11:21Okay, all right, said he visits Harvey Dent in the Hostile Dark
- 1:11:28Knight High. All right. So I don't think the writers are going to
- 1:11:34use this, No no, And if they do use it, I don't
- 1:11:38think they're going to admit, do you think one of the show will oh
- 1:11:43yeah, probably, oh yeah probably yeah yeah, all right, but Prodigy
- 1:11:50going Away, I've never really watched them, maybe like fifteen minutes of it
- 1:11:57maximum, and so I'm not that bothered about it. But I mean I
- 1:12:02guess, like I think, Dan, you said your kids we're watching it,
- 1:12:10right and no my son my son lost interest? Yeah, okay,
- 1:12:24so that you watched it. So I mean, if you want to really
- 1:12:28get honest feedback about, like, um with would they miss it? Um,
- 1:12:34you might ask them because they would give you a more um useful reaction
- 1:12:42to that. But yeah, I'm curious how this is going to impact their
- 1:12:45whole Starfleet Academy show. It might reach a younger audience. It might,
- 1:12:56It might. I mean yeah, because you know they have a budget problem
- 1:13:00right now, um, and they got to choose their projects carefully, and
- 1:13:08they want to choose the projects that's gonna have the most um like chances of
- 1:13:15succeeding. And person from a personal um point of view or opinion, Um,
- 1:13:21this premises of Start Lead Academy isn't really that interesting and it might turn
- 1:13:30some people off, um, which you know they were they're trying to disney
- 1:13:35by the thing and that I think, yeah, I think they should go
- 1:13:43with Legacy because Legacy has a way, way more of a you know,
- 1:13:49um demand at this point then Start Lead Academy. So go with Legacy.
- 1:13:56And you know Legacy is a winner right now. So how long do you
- 1:14:00think it'll be before Starfleet Academy puts the Cadets on a ship and sends them
- 1:14:08out in space and escially, it just it just becomes, you know,
- 1:14:14another Star Trek show. Here's the Google Trends difference between Star Trek Legacy and
- 1:14:18Star Trek Starfleet Academy. Legacy is in the red, which is the complete
- 1:14:23flat line just about and Legacy is just all over the map, just excited
- 1:14:30um academies the red and Legacies the blue? Right, yeah, Legacy was
- 1:14:40the red or was it the blue? Yeah? Jonathan Martinez says, can
- 1:14:46we can we get GPT to outline a trek Cast episode showing out Jad told
- 1:14:51people they were wrong? Yes, all right, anything else? I want
- 1:15:02to bring up a history spot? Well, thank you for a kind of
- 1:15:08um humoring me about my um intellectual um curiosities. Yeah, no problem,
- 1:15:15always for having you on. Okay, thanks, thanks forever, Thanks,
- 1:15:20and keep up the good work. And hopefully episode three is gonna be like
- 1:15:26really good. Yeah, hopefully could it get worse? Oh, can always
- 1:15:31get on wood, knock on wood, could always could always get worse?
- 1:15:34Yeah, yeah, anything Michael Burnham crossover. Oh lord, yeah, I'm
- 1:15:46good. I think all right, I'm good. Oh and by the way,
- 1:15:49we were we because Dan loves these uh these little mentions here we jumped
- 1:15:54up and ranking the number thirty nine in Germany over the last week. All
- 1:15:58right, nice yep. So I don't know if maybe the trek Cast dot
- 1:16:03d E had some episodes there released and nobody could find it and they came
- 1:16:06to cars. I don't know. Yeah, maybe that happens. It happens,
- 1:16:12so but not all good. Oh we did have a I think we
- 1:16:15didn't get it last week either. Eric would bought us a coffee on the
- 1:16:17coffee account. Thank you, Eric. I gotta find out if he's coming
- 1:16:24to Vegas. I know he had. He had asked, uh, you
- 1:16:28know who who was definitely going because he was considering it. So let us
- 1:16:31know, Eric, let us know. Should be fun. It should be
- 1:16:35a lot of fun. Yea. And Vegas is telling me of all these
- 1:16:40places we need to go visit. So yeah, like what we found a
- 1:16:44gaming bar that's pretty cool, that's got like a fun cover and NonStop gaming.
- 1:16:49Um, there's all sorts of different like restaurants that are local restaurants that
- 1:16:56he knows. Apparently there is also local discount So yeah, we got to
- 1:17:00go to that place that David goes for his fish the basic basically fish and
- 1:17:04chips. Okay, David Ivy goes too. It's just south on the south
- 1:17:09side of the airport. It's good. It's really good you guys to dive
- 1:17:12bark on a type atmosphere. Fun cool, all right, so awesome,
- 1:17:17all right, guys. All right, well thanks every watch. We'll see
- 1:17:20you guys. Thanks, yea, bye bye. This is Captain Benjamin Cisco
- 1:17:26of Deep Space nine and Space God to the Bajorans. I have a mission
- 1:17:30for you. This falls outside of Starfleet guidelines, so I can't order you,
