Transcript
- 0:08[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, others are saving votes.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Pam Forty with my colleagues as usual, Dean won't you housekey and Brian Fisher.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're heading into the stretch drive of the season gentlemen.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_03]: And here's what we're going to cover on today's show.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to do what comes naturally, which is second guessing the playoff committee and their first rankings decide which program is closest to being in every year, playoff participant.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_03]: Where is there any such thing as one that could do it every year?
- 0:41[SPEAKER_03]: Well, dissect the hubries flop at Auburn and who should be next on the planes?
- 0:47[SPEAKER_03]: We'll check in on some anger in Boston we'll make some game picks.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_03]: I will pretend last week never happened in that regard and we'll have more holiday creep.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: But first, guys, before we get to that, I did wanna bring your attention to this.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: Matt Brown from extra points did some work on which stadiums, which colleges are selling the most beer at their games, or most alcohol.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: And his original reporting said that the university in Madison, Camperandle Stadium, the Badgers was number one.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_03]: Gene, what's the name of that school?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Wisconsin.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_03]: There we go.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was all an elaborate set up to get gene to say Wisconsin.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm easily amused.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, Matt's reporting was actually in air and he corrected it as a good reporter would of he had last year's numbers.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: And apparently since people aren't going to the Wisconsin games, they're not selling as much alcohol.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_03]: Nebraska, congratulations.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_03]: You are the drinking
- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and Dylan rail is injured and they just lost it on the USC.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: They have plenty of reason to continue drinking.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_03]: I want the show fellas.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: We got that out of genome.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_03]: We can we can move on happily now we do we'd add the CFP reaction Tuesday night.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_03]: Jeans.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think getting a spot treatment Brian Fisher and I did a live reaction.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_03]: We thank all 14 people to watch.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_03]: uh... it was as usual interesting revelatory gave us some stuff to complain about and it sets off the five week bitch fest that i think undermines the credibility of the committee but that's their decision the top twelve as follows this is what we're talking about here we have number one ohio state number two
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: Indiana number three Texas A&M number four Alabama number five Georgia number six Ole Miss number seven BYU number eight Texas tech number nine Oregon number ten Notre Dame 11 and 12 Texas and Oklahoma but they wouldn't be in the playoff right now because you'd have to have an ACC champion which would be Virginia and you have to have a group of six champion which would be unrated.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_03]: Memphis, Virginia's number 14.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_03]: So that's the lay of the land.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, I had plenty to say about this the other night.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_03]: So, Gina, let's hear from you.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_03]: What are your biggest takeaways on the first reveal of the top 25?
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think the first one is I'm not going to get my boxers in a bunch over the very first CFP rankings.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: I do believe a lot of this plays itself out in the next few weeks.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: But I'd be really interested if one of you at least can explain to me why the committee took into account
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: the head to head results of, and I've written them down here, Texas OU, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Georgia, Virginia Louisville, but somehow have decided that the Notre Dame Miami head to head disappeared on them.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Miami lost the Louisville in SMU.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: Notre Dame lost the Texas A&M and wait for it, Miami.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: Miami is cleaning the basement crawl space at number 18.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: Is it?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: And Notre Dame's upstairs at number 10.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: And can you explain to me why Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Oklahoma and Texas, when both OU and Texas and my humble opinion have better wins than Notre Dame.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: Texas,
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: B-O-U and Dallas, Vandy and Austin, their losses are the number one Ohio State and yes, there's that bad one at Florida.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: O-U has beaten number 21 Michigan and number 25 Tennessee, which I'll admit, I don't quite know I Tennessee's ranked in the top 25.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: and their losses are to Texas and Ole Miss.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: And while Louisville, which by the way, beat Miami and only has one loss, is five spots behind Notre Dame.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: And Notre Dame's best win is at home against USC.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll hang up and I'll listen to your answers.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: Brian, you want to head of that?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think if you addressed the key question there with Notre Dame and Miami, a lot of it just has to come down to just the wake of the committee works and not having Notre Dame come right up against Miami and I think that that that gap between those two means that they were not on the same page with the committee in terms of all their screens and that that room in Dallas, you know, it was not Miami versus Notre Dame versus all those other ones that that work.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_04]: And so they could have readjust it even if they had say, you know, a level ahead of Virginia, they could have swapped those on, you know, on the final ranking.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_04]: So that that's the, the dive into the how the committee works.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's the biggest thing.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_04]: I'm with you, you know, though, it doesn't make sense to have Miami that low and, you know, the the committee chair Mac roads.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_04]: You kind of came out afterwards and said,
- 6:18[SPEAKER_04]: And look, it's consistency with the canes, you know, that they just didn't see it and all those turnovers these last couple of weeks that have led to a lot of these losses, I think that was a big factor and just though the way Miami has been playing, you know, even going back to some of those wins, you go back to that Florida state game right they jump out to it to a big lead.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: They let the nose get back into things, even Notre Dame.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that was a one way traffic for about three and a half quarters.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_04]: And then Notre Dame got back in that game.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_04]: They needed the Lake Fielgole.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_04]: So this is this is a Miami team that I think the committee respects the talent there.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_04]: We can all see it.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_04]: They passed the eye test in that front, especially in the trenches with with those guys that they have that are going to be first round picks.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_04]: But.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_04]: the consistency on the field has not been there for the Keynes and I think it's that they almost got punished in these first committee rankings as a result.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: Jeno, we'll thank you.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to what you can join me in the bunker as the Notre Dame fans besieges since I've kind of I got nothing against Notre Dame.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't either, you know, me, I mean, you, you either.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: So it, it's just, you asked me, what was my takeaway?
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: That was one of them.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: I know, I know, and that's it.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody has anything here's no name.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_03]: They're just rated too high.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's it.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the biggest reason why guys is their losses were at the beginning of the season.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_03]: And they just seemed to magically matter less.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_03]: There is a recent sea bias no matter what anybody says about what happens.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: And so you've seen Notre Dame do nothing but win since September 13th.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_03]: And you think, well, God, they're really good.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_03]: And they are, but this is supposed to be a full season resume, right?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_03]: There's only 12 games they need to all matter, especially the games against the best teams, which is what those were.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_03]: And Brian, you were there for the Miami Notre Dame game.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_03]: I thought Miami was the better team all day.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_03]: Plus, game, good game.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: I was there for the Texas A&M game.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_03]: It was an absolute shootout back and forth jump ball kind of game.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_03]: It came down to the last play.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: But it wasn't like, you know, either way, the neither team was vastly spirit of the other, but it was lost.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_03]: They lost at home.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_03]: That has to matter.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_03]: And that's where I think it's just the committee various factors come into play.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_03]: But I think in this instance, losing your games early, that's been the best thing Notre Dame has done the last couple of years.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you're losing over the Illinois.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's terrible.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: But if you do it early,
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, it's a long time ago.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_03]: People tend to forget.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_03]: So that's my theory there.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, Notre Dame's ranking to me jumped out as not in line with those around them and behind them.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, on Tuesday night, Wednesday, overnight, in the Wednesday, you wrote about the big 12's beat down of the ACC in the rankings.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: Why did it go down that way?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_03]: And what can the ACC do in the
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, a lot of this just comes down to they didn't get it done in that non conference schedule, you know, I think that's that's the key factor that I took away from not only mac roads comments, but just kind of looking at those rankings and look, you know, a big 12 was 6 and 1 against the ACC in the non conference, I think that head to head factor.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_04]: whether whether it was conscious or whether it was unconscious in that committee room definitely played a factor in terms of not only bunching everybody up in the ACC but making sure they're way behind the big 12 not just the leaders in the big 12 but also Utah there as another one of those two lost teams that the ACC was behind and you know look the the ACC you know the the big 12 went eight six non-conference play the ACC was five and fourteen
- 9:55[SPEAKER_04]: against the other powerful leagues and Notre Dame.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_04]: So like that, that kind of puts it in pretty stark contrast.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they start, they had a pretty good week one, all things considered, you know, Florida State, upset Alabama.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously, Miami beat Notre Dame that we were just talking about and you kind of thought, all right, maybe maybe the leagues got a little bit of momentum, but they just kind of completely let that go.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_04]: And then you add on the conference losses that have come lately.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_04]: And the ACC has a lot of work to do.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_04]: And I think there is going to be that debate between the big 12 and the ACC in terms of which is going to be the month I bid league right now the big 12 has a leg up but there are a lot of scenarios out there for the ACC to kind of get back in this you know lovable is going to be key I mean there could be if you look at the standings you look at the schedules coming up there could be a four way tie a top the ACC standings which number one is a huge headache for the committee in terms of all right here's here's going to share it.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_04]: That's one bid, maybe you have a little bit of that doesn't even make it to Charlotte for the ACC championship game, but they still have one loss, all right, there's there's another way for the ACC to get in multiple teams, so it's it's not over by any stretch for Jim Phillips league, but they they better be out there stomping getting the speeches ready.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_04]: starting to campaign a little bit, even though we're past election day right now in terms of saying, hey, we're still a good league.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: We can still get multiple bids.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: But there needs to be some work work on the field.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_04]: And I think it starts these these upcoming next two weeks.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think that'll be key for the ACC in terms of at least changing the narrative a little bit because they they got put behind the eight while in the nine conference slate.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: I agree.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think that especially the head to
- 11:34[SPEAKER_03]: Market of the hell out of themselves beating up on the ACC.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_03]: They put it out in there every week when they'd send up this week in the big 12.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_03]: Here's our record against the ACC.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, there's where little kind of mile posts, like Baylor, winning at SMU early.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_03]: And that was a game where they had to make a semi miraculous come back to do it.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_03]: But it counts.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: It matters.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: And Baylor is right now kind of a mid-pack.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_03]: Big 12 team and SMUs still in the hunt for to go to Charlotte and they can look at that and say, yeah, look, one of our mid-pack teams beat one of their upper tier teams and by the way, the selection committee chair is the Baylor AD, he might have brought that up.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: If you're right, the the.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_03]: The scenario of a four-way tie and who gets in and who doesn't get in to go to Charlotte is fascinating and what might be the benefits of not playing in a championship game?
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: People here in Louisville, I live in Louisville and they are trying to decide whether 11 and one would be better than 11 and two.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_03]: You know, or 11 and one is, you know, is that good enough to get in on its own or do they has it win the title or bust.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a lot of angst there.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know you have any thoughts on the ACC situation?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to ask you a little bit about Louisville you just answered most of them.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there is a scenario where they can end up with just one loss and that one loss is a three point loss to UVA.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: Why would you not?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: Why wouldn't you want to win every one of your games that makes no sense to me?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: I also think to Brian's point, yes, the big 12 has won the primary.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: Now we have the general election and there's still a pathway for Georgia Tech for example, they win at BC, they win versus pit,
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: Then they have that monster game against Georgia, and Mercedes-Benz in Atlanta.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: You have a 111 record with a win against the top five team.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: At least they're top five team right now, Georgia is.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: Or what happens if pit goes on a season ending bender and heeter?
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: and look, you know, they're playing Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Miami.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: All three of those teams right now are in the top 18 of the CFP rankings.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: They'd be 10 and 2.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: And again, they do have that gruesome loss to West Virginia, but they can make a case.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think it's over for the ACC.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think there are still pathways.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: Not saying this can be super easy, but I'm not, I'm
- 14:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that's a really good point, actually, that that's the one league that still has some major non-combrates games left not just the games between the ACC and the SEC but the Notre Dame game for Pittsburgh that can really give them some added late season credibility and Georgia Georgia Georgia game.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_03]: is potentially huge for a number of reasons.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: But also speaking of early season game, early season losses that just seemed to go away, Alabama losing to Florida State, which is now like in 14th place in the ACC.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: That hasn't held them back at all.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: Again, it's good to lose early in this sport.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_03]: One other thing, guys, after listening to Mac Rhodes talk, you know, on the teleconference after,
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: the TV show and boy will mac hate this job by a few weeks from now when he's still doing this.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: But one of the things that came out to me is this seems like a committee that's big on the look test.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: There was a lot of talk about turning on the tape and seeing what how they look and line play and this and that does this mean that the coaches on the panel, Chris Alt,
- 15:23[SPEAKER_03]: are holding sway, maybe some of the former players too, Wesley Walls, former tight end at Ole Misses on the committee.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, is this a football guy's committee or is this a resume committee?
- 15:39[SPEAKER_03]: I think is the question.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_03]: My opinion, it sounds to me like a football guy committee.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: And we've had that in the past where Alva Rezantama's born kind of took charge, and I think really kind of steered
- 15:53[SPEAKER_03]: might not be a bad thing, might be a good thing.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: I tend to want people who are more into the resume and tell me, can interpret that.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to hear Mac Roads tell me who's offensive line is better.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: He's an athletic director at Baylor.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's to me, and he may just be passing along whatever one else is saying, but I don't want a committee that's going to say, the duo blocking clearly separates Alabama from the competition, I'm not into that,
- 16:23[SPEAKER_04]: I agree with you, you know, I think that it's interesting to see those coaches too, and obviously having interactions with them over over the years, I don't.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_04]: I don't anticipate, you know, Mike Riley as nice as he is being just the vocal leader in that group, but I could see, you know, somebody like Mark and Toneo.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_04]: You know, kind of be in a little bit more vocal, being a little bit more out there with his opinion.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_04]: And then that might get Chris Aldon, you know, and I think it might be a more of a momentum thing, you know, with with those coaches.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_04]: Somebody speaks up and says one thing and then everybody kind of nods in agrees and then that kind of carries the tenure, tenure, tenure of the room right there.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think that might be where we come in because it definitely seemed like the eye test.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_04]: revealed and in those first set of rankings, you had Ohio State over Indiana, which had the superior resume, you know, you had Georgia ahead of old men's obviously with with the head to head, but you know, Georgia was was that number five team and you know, you look at at Alabama, you know, if you look at at the resume that they put in in terms of the number of top 25 wins, there could have been a case for Alabama to be ahead of Texas A&M.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_04]: But it wasn't.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: So I think for a lot of those coaches in there, they kind of held sway in terms of, all right, this is the first set of rankings.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_04]: We don't have the complete set of data right now.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_04]: Let's go with the I test.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_04]: This team was better than this team.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_04]: And then as because they make it up as they go along all the time and on on the CFP show itself and then afterwards in the tele conference with the media.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_04]: All right, well, we're going to figure out ways we can justify ranking teammate ahead of team B.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I guess I will semi-defend the committee here without us actually being in the room, who knows what unfolded there and who's holding sway.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: But I think there are worse things
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: than having former coaches and former players informed the non coaches and non players in that room about what they see and what impresses them and what they like about this team.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: And we can call it the eye test or we can call it informed opinion.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: But then it's up to the other committee members.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: To take that information, process it and use it in their own rankings and I suspect that's probably what happens, but Brian makes a good point, you know, you certainly if you're using.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: the eye test or the coaches and former players test, maybe that's why Ohio State is number one over Indiana, when the metrics suggested that maybe Indiana or even Texas A&M could have been number one.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that's why Notre Dame is ranked as high as it is, because they look at it and say they're just
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: they're just a better team right now.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: They look better.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: They're playing better.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: You can't quantify it.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: You just have to look at it and understand it.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: So again, I'm not getting too upset about this.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't like DevCon one sort of issues for me right now, but it's certainly a valid point
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: is the one who opened the door on the on the top and and so I think it's legitimate to discuss, but without actually being in that room.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: Who knows, really.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's podcast 101 to get out right.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: You're so measured here.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: You're so reasonable.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: No way till we get to the last week's picks, I think you'll see a different maybe.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, yeah, fair, fair.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: The next segment at the end, yeah, there's always that getting cut out this week.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_03]: No, well, it needs to be, it needs to be, but we'll address, we'll address it.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, look, again, we don't know.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_03]: And boy, it would be great if they did let us in.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_03]: It would be great if each committee member published their top 25 like the AP voters do.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I realize that's not going to happen, but some more transparency I do think would be helpful back in August when they said, you know, we're going to add weight to strength of schedule.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to add weight to strength of record.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_03]: How much weight.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: You know, what is the weighing?
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: Is everybody supposed to say we're taking 60% of this and 20% of this and 20% of that?
- 20:40[SPEAKER_03]: Or what, you know, they talk about how they're going to do this but they don't explain how they're doing it.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of my limits here.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: Now, one more element.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_03]: There are no G6 teams in the top 25.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: Cinderella is dead.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, he's dead for this week or she dead for this week.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody from the American, which is having a really good season is in the top 25.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_03]: Memphis, they said, would be the highest rated team, but it did not crack the actual ranking.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_03]: So the non-power programs are dealing with an even higher level of disrespect than usual.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_03]: How do you guys think, Jean, I'm going to ask you the the P4 commissioners are going to feel if it ends up with a
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: 9 and 3 are 10 and 2 AC, AAC champion who's not ranked or is barely in the rankings ahead of the 11th or 12th ranked team from one of their conferences you'll be able to fry a very thick Porterhouse stake on the four heads of those people and I mean if they get voted off C of P Island
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: for a non-power for team that doesn't have the bona fides.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: The perhaps one of their members does.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you'll hear those screams.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: And you may have an excellent point, Pat, because I saw this in Heather Dinnich's piece recently.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: And please correct me if I'm wrong in this.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: But the fifth highest ranked G5 conference champion gets a spot in the CFP, obviously.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: But for transparency, sake, as I understand it,
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: The rules don't allow us the general public to know where that non-top 25 ranked non-power for a conference champion that's selected to fill in that spot was in the rankings.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's what we might not know if
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: if that champion was ranked 36th at the time, but they had to move them into that fifth automatic qualifier because those are just the rules.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: Why is that, Bo?
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: Why is that number not made public?
- 22:58[SPEAKER_03]: Great question, I would like to know.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_03]: I would say this, you know, yeah, you know what?
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: We will hear howling, probably no matter what, especially if the G16 either is unranked or even knit the tail into the rankings.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: But this is also why they want to go to 16.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: They want to expand so that their 12th place, 13th place, 14th place teams get in the tournament because getting in the tournament will be the coin of the realm.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_03]: And that's whether you know you had
- 23:34[SPEAKER_03]: But personally, hello, I am still the, you know me, I am a populist to the core.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_03]: I am in favor of a G6 automatic bid.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see it.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_03]: I want that team to have a shot.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_03]: Boys, you state got it last year and actually got one of the, uh,
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: buys for the quarterfinals.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's a different set up this year that wouldn't have happened.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think last year, but boys, you stayed acquitted itself pretty well.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: They lost to Penn State, but they weren't like blown away 55 to 7.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_03]: That was a decent game.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: I was there.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: I covered it and I want them to have that chance.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, you got anything to add there.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_04]: No, but, you know, to Gina's point, you know, I think the thing that we don't get either, and they didn't speak about it afterwards, is, you know, what, what is the gap between the Memphis's of the world's to the USF to to lane to any of those teams that are continuing for the American plus.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_04]: James Madison sits in out there possibly a 12 and one at the end of the year winning the somewhat having that very close loss to Louisville, you know, are they in the mix for this group of five bid?
- 24:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think for the committee itself, you know, and if we are saying this is a TV product in terms of the show, they should be drumming up interest in some of those group of five fanbase and saying, hey, it's close, at least, you know, like give us that bread crumb.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_04]: If you're really considering things if you're watching those sunbelt games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays like just reconfirm that for us.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_04]: So I think, you know, yes, the somebody's going to be upset by having somebody leap frog, you know, that group of five champion over somebody that is going to say, hey, we're in the top 12, why are we not in there, but at the end of the day, I think for the interest level of the sport, it is good for it that we do get that G six bid into the playoff and to me that the committee should play that up a little bit.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_04]: And maybe they will with the rankings next week in terms of saying, hey, you know what there's actually more fan bases out there that are in the running for the playoff than than you would think and I think that that would be good for the sports overall especially given all this talk that we've had it's it's the power for you know who's doing this in the SEC who's in the ACC that might get let out that to me is going to be bigger for the sport itself if we can get some more interest level from a lot of those G6 leagues.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, and that you know what these are passionate fan bases.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: They're not huge, but they're passionate fan bases Memphis fans are really excited.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_03]: They've got a chance to lane south Florida, which really has has been down for quite a while.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_03]: So more a bigger net to pull those those fans in is better.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: And Pat, one last thing, I'm just saying if it's a year where one of those G5 teams are bumped up and they're not in the top 25, then I think the committee owes it to all of us, just to let us know where they were ranked.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's all if they were 26 tell us every 26 sure if they were 36 let us know where 36 guess what America loves pulling for an underdog.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we see it all the time in the NCAAs.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_02]: We know who the last team is in the NCAAs, and we know where they're seated, and we can do the math.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't see why the committee can't do the math and let us know if that team is outside that top 25.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm with you, and I bet they would say they're 26 no matter what.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_03]: because they want to make a look like they're bringing in somebody who's 43rd.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, the last playoff related topic, guys.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_03]: LSU acting athletic director, Verge Osbury, according to New President Wade Rouse, Wade who came in from McNeese State, quite a charmer, a rural Louisiana charmer.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_03]: I talked to him when McNeese absolutely pistol-wipped Clemson in the tournament last year.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_03]: He lived in the dorm at McNeese.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe they can find him at Dormat LSU, but anyway, says Virg is the acting AD who has full authority to hire the next coach there.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_03]: But Virg had this to say last week.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_03]: He said, LSU has to be in the playoffs every year in football.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think anybody makes the playoffs every year.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: You guys feel free to disagree if you want.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_03]: who comes closest to that level of autopilot is it, you tell me, just give me a school that you think is the most likely to go to the playoff all the time, even if they don't go to the playoff all the time.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_04]: What's going to be Ohio State, right?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they've been in every single ranking since way back in 2014 in the initial set.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_04]: So this is this is a program that is autopilot.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_04]: It's almost recession proof.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's kind of why people would
- 28:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you can show up.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_04]: You've got the talent.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_04]: You have the conference now in terms of the big 10 and the reputation that league has, you know, you go 10 and 2 even if you go 9 and 3 you're going to be in the mix for the playoff if you're a team like Ohio State.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_04]: So I would go Ohio State easily.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: You could probably add Alabama in there in terms of, yes, historically, but obviously a lot of that, you know, in the past couple of years has been under Nick Sabin.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_04]: He's no longer there.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_04]: So there's a new regime in town.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_04]: So maybe you take Alabama, but if you talk about autopilot going to be consistently in every single season, I'm going to go with Iowa State Alabama has the most appearances eight.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: but they missed in 24 and 22.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: So even a program like Al-Bamak can miss.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: Clemson as 7, Ohio State 6, Georgia, Oklahoma 4, Notre Dame, and Michigan 3.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, the odds increase if they expand the field to 16, which it looks like eventually that might be the next number.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm with Brian, I think, Ohio State
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: They're standing in the big ten.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: They are the, you know, the evil empire, the death star of that conference, and they're going to be tough to make go away.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll agree with you, Brian.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'll say, I'll have stay two.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'm with you just because I think there's a little less competition top to bottom in the big ten.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: So that's why I would take them over Alabama or Georgia,
- 29:48[SPEAKER_03]: I would put there on that next year.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'd say also Notre Dame has the capability.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: They may not be able to do it, but you don't have the automatic bid, but you also have so much more flexibility in terms of how you arrange your schedule.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: And they've got things aligned, so to speak there now, as far as how they really, really want to be good at football.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think there was a period of time
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: was important, but not vital.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_03]: And I think now they're back to looking at it as vital.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think they should be in the mix every single year.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: And you can lose your first two games.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, everyone.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_03]: And still be in the top ten.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's a miracle.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's a miracle.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: All right, the coaching care cell of course spun another time this week because it does every week.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: Few freeze out at Auburn and gosh, he's going to be missed.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, okay.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_03]: What's our period of morning, that's over Jane, how did he how did it go so wrong for people to thought and I was probably one of my thought he freeze would do well at at Auburn it he did not do well at all what happened can I remind you of the new Mexico state loss in 2023 for the fourth and thirty one.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Well, fourth and goal from the 31 against Bama.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: Can I remind you that they hired you freeze to fix the offense and develop quarterbacks?
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: And he didn't fix the offense, and he definitely didn't develop a quarterback.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: They lost four games.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Georgian, Mazu, by an average of seven and a quarter points.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: They wasted a perfectly good defense this year.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_02]: and they lost a Kentucky and scored three points while losing it.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: But for the next guy, do you remember the last time Penn State?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we make a big deal about Penn State in Notre Dame, right?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: Remember the last time Penn State won a national championship?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: 1986, okay, last time Notre Dame won a national championship?
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: 1988, right, last time Auburn won a national championship.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: When a 14 13 13 13 13 14 it's a it's a program where if you get the right guy you can you can do amazing things there there's an infrastructure there at Auburn so let's see if they get the right guy this time, but that's what happened that's why you freeze after two plus years is is out of there.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_04]: I agree completely, you know, and for he was, say, you know, he never found the quarterback, you know, that was as kind of why he was brought in in the first place, you know, and he stuck with with Thorne for too long, you know, Jackson Arnold was did not clearly work out this year, and then that was the one position you thought, all right, he could at least.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_04]: figure something out there under center.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_04]: And any never did.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_04]: And that was why this offense was so bad.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_04]: You can't blame the defense at this point.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I mean, they've got a lot of talent on that defense.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_04]: That was really keeping them in games despite what the offense was doing.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_04]: The turnover issues, you know, it just they'd never look coherent on that side of the ball, which is not something you would have expected to say about that huge freeze offense, given what we saw it told me.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_04]: especially early in his tenure there at Liberty, you know, this was why he was, you know, a hot name for for that job when Lane kept it tearing them down initially.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_04]: It was all about, hey, he can put together an offense.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_04]: We know we got talent.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_04]: We can get talent.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_04]: That's never been an issue at Auburn and and and look at where it's loved them, you know, this is.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_04]: I think disappointing for not only for you, but I think for everybody at all burn to say this was not going to work out because they they definitely stuck their neck next out for them to make this higher on the first place and then to have it go so wrong so quickly certainly looks bad on on the tigers at a large.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I remember just being astounded when I heard they were actually going all in on the portal to get Jackson Arnold.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_03]: I just, no respect to the, disrespect to the young man, but I never saw anything in him that said, that's the guy you wanna build an offense around.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_03]: And it has not worked.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_03]: He's last in the, as you see in past efficiency for Auburn, just as he was when he was the quarterback at Oklahoma.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's been some, I think, some retrofitting that, basically, that, that, that Hugh Freeze got this job, because of beating Alabama twice, and that, that may be the case, but the only reason he beat Alabama the second time when he was at Ole Miss was a ball that deflected off a helmet and turned into a touchdown.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was there.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: I covered the game.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_03]: It was a great play.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that whole game was was crazy off the off the rails weird.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_03]: But after that that same season beat number 15 Texas A&M ranked LSU a ranked Mississippi state a ranked Oklahoma state 110 games.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_03]: You freeze had a lot of success.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't just beating Alabama twice.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_03]: So I am shocked that he didn't do better there.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: He was 10 in one at Liberty in 2020.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_03]: That's season, he had an outstanding offense.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: So it didn't work.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_03]: Who's your quarterback though?
- 35:26[SPEAKER_03]: Then in 2020, they had that really got.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_03]: Don't, don't, don't, don't ask me that question.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_03]: That excellent quarterback.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, as I recall, they had a quarterback who could run his offense.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: And that wasn't this guy this year.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: Again, nothing against him.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: But he couldn't run what he frees was successful at at liberty.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: So your point is well taken.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: Malik Willis was the quarter.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: Are we confusing the athlete the Malik Willis with Arnold?
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_02]: He ran that offensive way.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: You freeze one at a time.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: It just came translate.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, you've been putting together candidate lists for all the open jobs.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: What do you got for Auburn?
- 36:07[SPEAKER_04]: Well, they'd love to go back to the well with Lane Kiffin and see, you know, explore that.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_04]: But I don't think that's that's happening.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_04]: Not only given the number of jobs that Lane's going to be up for in the conference itself, but you know, whether he has that stay or go decision there at old miss.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's going to be overriding in his mind.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, the usual suspects are going to be mentioned.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_04]: I think in this job and I think it is interesting.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_04]: I think this is actually the first search that that jungle in the 80 there is.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_04]: going to be able to conduct on on his own and really lead and shape and go in the right direction versus and you go back to when he frees was hired he it was kind of like all right we're going to hire John Cohen and then you know boom they're they're going to hire you free so that was not necessarily the he's got the runway to conduct the search as as he wants it but I think they would ideally you know want somebody that can you know revive that offense
- 36:55[SPEAKER_04]: But I go back to what's succeeded there at Auburn.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_04]: And it has been defensive guys, you know, to be honest, you know, Pat Dye.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_04]: Tommy Tupperville had an undefeated season.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_04]: He got geniusic winning that national title most recently.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_04]: And he had been program builders defensive guys, kind of bring the back to that toughness.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm curious if that's going to be something that they're going to look for, that to me.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_04]: John Summer all fits that to a T he's a guy that's ticketed for the SEC and I know that the to Lane team just got blown up by Memphis.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_04]: I get that, but he's 38 and 11 as a head coach.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_04]: He knows that state.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_04]: He's from Huntsville, you know, he knows how to recruit.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_04]: I think in that conference.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_04]: I think he would bring that kind of team building that toughness back to Auburn.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_04]: Right across the state line there in Atlanta at Georgia Tech.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_04]: With that attempt to leave, you know, his alma mater, that would be interesting because I think he would fit that program to a tea bring back that toughness again.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_04]: And I think if they do go offense, I think Alex Kulish, you know, given his connections, he helped turn Tennessee around.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_04]: What he's been able to do the connections he has now in the state of Florida.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_04]: That would make a lot of sense from an offensive guy.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, this is going to be an attractive job, you know, it's not, you know, one A in terms of being up there with LSU and Florida, but it's kind of right there in that next year.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that will get a lot of interest from a lot of coaches.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_04]: Who you got, Pat?
- 38:19[SPEAKER_03]: I like some role here, but again, I mean, shoot, we'll see, he might be my end up being first on the listed Florida or something like that.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: So that's that's TBD, although if I do think Florida would like to get somebody who's been ahead coach in a power conference because they just got a guy from the G6 level and he bombed.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe some role is getable.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_03]: for Auburn.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: I like Brian's point, actually, about them kind of wanting a defense guy because that kind of how Auburn rolls to a degree.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to say some, what do you got, Jane?
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, defense wasn't the problem this year.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: Now, wasn't that side of the ball?
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: Wasn't the problem this year?
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: Offence was a problem this year.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Did anybody happen to watch the Arizona
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: Last week, what Kenny doing him did with without Sam Levitt who's done for the year, what he did without when he lost his best wide receiver, one of the best in the country during that game coach step a six year senior.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: and they upset Iowa State.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think doing him is a plug-and-play coach in just about any program that's open right now.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think he'd be successful at Penn State.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think he'd be successful at Auburn.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think he'd be successful anywhere you put him and I could see that 5-st sort of combative
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: personality really endearing himself to those Auburn folks who always consider themselves a little bit of an underdog.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, I know ASU is his alma mater, but if you look at the resources available to him at Auburn versus what he has at Arizona State with all due respect, Arizona State, I just think Auburn's a better job.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_02]: And that would be a guy that I would definitely look hard at.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then I think maybe James Frank can could be in play there.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I like both of those guys.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_03]: My initial gut reaction is Kenny Dillingham is not going to Auburn.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to wait for a better job.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_03]: But as you outlined, you can win an actual championship at Auburn.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_03]: You might be right.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_03]: You might be right, but and then Franklin I sure I think Franklin could succeed in any number of places.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_03]: They have the question there is if you can't beat Ohio State can you beat Alabama and it's not an apples to apples comparison, but.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: That might be the drawback they're going through there, but there's not that many good candidates for all these jobs, these guys are going to get something if they want something.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, last thing real quick rapid fire here, just give me a name.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: We're speaking of Auburn, they are scheduling Notre Dame 2027 and 2028 Notre Dame's now scheduled that with that that's 14 out of the 16 teams in the SEC, the only two they aren't haven't played.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: will be Kentucky and Mississippi State, but generally speaking, looking across the landscape, give me one team you want to see the Irish schedule.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_03]: Jean, you got anybody?
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: How about USC?
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's what I was going to say.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's the same thing, too.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, man.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_03]: We're all smart asses.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: You know what?
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: Geographically speaking, and you just mentioned it.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think Kentucky would be a nice choice.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_03]: Kentucky would be thrilled.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's for sure about Michigan.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: Go back to play in Michigan.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, cool one.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_03]: USC is clearly the choice of others receiving votes Notre Dame and USC get it done.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: All right, it's ramp time fellas.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: Brian Kelly's gone and Jeff Landry took the week off from berating people at LSU.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_03]: So we have an opening for a new ranger and boy, howdy, we found one
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: The coach at Boston College, below Brian producer Kent, please play the sound from him, nooking a reporter.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_03]: earlier this week.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: Coach, I'm wondering, do you have a message for the fans?
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously losing to Notre Dame, Catholic school rival, one in eight, now in the season of BC.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard from a lot of fans, I just really, yeah, I'm really glad, you know, I'm glad you're down.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not down, nobody's down, we're fighting, we're competing, you know, it's the second year of this program.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: You always come in here with these down questions, like, you show up like once a month or something like that, you come in here with these down questions.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not down.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what year you graduated from BC, but this is a program that we're building.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody hears down, we're positive, we're gonna show up and play our asses off against SMU.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: You can go out there in your dark clouded world or whatever it is and do what you wanna do.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're not down on the sun is up and we're fighting.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's my message to the fans.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Trevor?
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Trevor?
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: What's the frequency, Kenneth?
- 43:10[SPEAKER_02]: uh... quite a game quite a spirited rant from uh... b-o-b jena hope the sun is up where you and you're ready to play your ass off what uh... what you take on this well first of all that's not even in the top two hundred great ass chewings by a coach to a uh... our manager to a reporter and anybody's ever been a beat reporter
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: covering a big league team knows exactly what I'm talking about.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually a big fan of O'Brien.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a really good coach, and I've gotten to know him a little on the personal side, and I think he's a wonderful person.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_02]: Now, would that report or agree with me?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously not.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: And he works at a, he has a really tough job.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a reason why they call Boston college University of can't.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's a tough place to win and they don't have the resources and he is there.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: He was speaking the truth.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: But he did it in typical Bill of Brian fashion.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I thought it was outstanding.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure I would have liked to have been on the receiving end, but I can tell you a very quick anecdote in 2013 when I was a DSP and I was part of the crew.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_02]: We were,
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: was called training days.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: And we were embedded with Penn State during O'Brien's second season at Penn State.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: And he wanted us there only slightly less than he wanted shingles, you know.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: But he was a good sport about it.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he let us fall around and all that sort of thing.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: But one of the things that we had to do
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: at the end, and these were long days.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, we had him mic'd up from first thing in the morning till, you know, late at night.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: And it was, I don't know, day six of this.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: And my job was to take the crew up to his office at like 10 or 11 o'clock and sort of him put a bow on that day's practices and events.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: And so I had some stuff, I still had to do down in the workroom, and I sent the crew
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, before I could get up there, the cruise already back.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I go, what's the problem?
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: What happened?
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: And he goes, well, Brian told us to get the F out of his office.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: I go, what do you mean?
- 45:37[SPEAKER_02]: He goes, we went in there and we said, we're here to do the final interview of the day, he goes, get the F out of here.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so I go, hold on, let me fix this in the guys like can we get no, we are not going to get talk like this, you know, we're adults and this is this isn't right we're out of here.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: So the crude leaves.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: This leaves the building.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I run up to a Brian's office and he's sitting there and he's like, well, are we doing this or what?
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: I go, Bill, what just happened?
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: Because well, your crew came in, but then they left.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_02]: I said, they said that you, you told them to get the F out of your office.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: He said, well, I was just kidding with them.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, well, coach, we're here to do the thing.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, ah, get the F out of here.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I go, well, they believed you.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: They left.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: They're gone.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_02]: They're not coming back.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: And he was genuinely sincerely, you know, like, oh, no, I did not.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, you know, my sense of humor.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: I was and he does.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: He has a very dry sense of humor and and they just weren't able to get it.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, basically we're standing there and in a weird way, I kind of had to laugh at the absurdity of it all, but that's Bill Bryan personified.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_02]: So it was, you know, everybody just made up the next day, but it was, it was one for the books.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think he's an acquired taste to a degree.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's going to give you some crap but he'll take it back.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_03]: I think I would put him on the list of guys in his business.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_03]: I would like to have a bear with because I think you'd be good company.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a good description.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, we can talk about my interaction with Bobby night sometime if you want an interaction that ended less well.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_03]: That's another show yeah another show speaking things that did not go well last week's picks I wasn't just oh and five I was actually oh and six I missed every single pick and I also predicted we would have in diamonds in the federal investigation of college basketball by now that didn't happen either so
- 47:56[SPEAKER_03]: It was a complete disaster.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: I would like to thank Gunner Stockton for taking a knee at the one yard line instead of scoring.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_03]: So Georgia could cover in the cocktail party.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_03]: Gunner, I don't care about strategy.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care about just winning the game.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_03]: Good teams win, great teams cover.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: You have hurt me there.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but then you would have been one and four.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_03]: I take one and four.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_03]: Brian was one and four.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's better than no one five.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_03]: Jean fluked out and went three and two and now it's got a half game lead.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks to the damn bear 27 and five.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_03]: Brian 26 and five.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_03]: I have slumped back to 24 and seven.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_03]: Interesting week of games.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_03]: We got one from every power conference and we'll do a lot of the week starting the big 12 most interesting game of the week.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think undefeated BYU at one loss Texas tech Brian Fisher will be there.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_03]: The coogers are getting 10 and a half Brian, which side you landing on.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_04]: I actually not to not be in love with but, uh, I bet the uh, this is a huge line, isn't it, you know, 10 and a half, especially that hook there, but as I think this is kind of one of those close games for for about three, three and a half quarters as BYU games usually are.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_04]: But.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_04]: Texas Tech at the end, whether it's by the back door or whether it's just by that that sheer force of will with that defensive line in particular going up against the covers.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_04]: I do think they cover at the end of the day, which is surprising to see, but it should be quite the scene there in Lubbock, probably the best game that that state even has seen since what 2008 or they're about so huge game in Lubbock.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think the crowd will be fired up even though it's in 11 a.m. kickoff and tech gets the cover no tortillas though no tortillas.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they're trying to convince me to take BYU, especially with that hook.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_02]: And guess what, I'll bite?
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take the 10 and a half.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: BYU is shown that they stick around.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: They play a style of offense.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a methodical and their defense is good enough that I think they hang around for more than three quarters.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, texting him and a crediteous pin for these numbers.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: Texas Tech is five and no at home and is home favorites this season.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: since the start of last season.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: So in number 47, Brock Meyer, I trust.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_03]: You're quarterback wearing the laying backer number.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_03]: The David Pollock number yes.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to go with BYU as well.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: This is it's tough because Texas tech has been burying people.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_03]: So they do that, but also BYU is hard to kill.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_03]: And I think this is going to be one of those that goes down to the last half of the last quarter, at least from a spread standpoint of where that thing lands, but I'll take the hook.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe it is a trap there inviting me into.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'm walking into it with the coogers.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_03]: Big 10, really interesting game in, uh, kinics stadium.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: Or again, coming in.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think for the first time, laying six and a half against a dangerous home underdog in Iowa, Gene, what do you think?
- 51:17[SPEAKER_02]: uh... first time organ has been at kinnic stadium since nineteen eighty nine okay so again landing will get his first look at that pink visitors locker room which we all love ducks have the nation's longest road winning streak at ten i think it's going to be eleven after sad days game mostly because
- 51:40[SPEAKER_02]: Lanyan and Oregon have had to sit there and listen to the only beat Wisconsin by 14 at home.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_02]: Does Oregon even belong in the in the top 10 or 12 of the CFP rankings?
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think this becomes a statement game for Oregon.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm taking Oregon and I'm going to lay those points.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm right there with you.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_04]: Give me the docs and I think that this could get ugly if I was offense does not come to play, especially in the passing game.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, if you can make them one dimensional, which, you know, I think for all the talk about organs resume not being good.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_04]: You look at them off getting off the bus that they've got some guys and I think those guys are going to show up.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_04]: In this game, the weather is a little bit going to be a factor in this one.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_04]: We saw how how kind of bogged down the the duck's offense got when it started to actually rain at off in stadium, so it's to be rainy cold little, you know, the conditions might be a factor there and I was city, but I just think the ducks are so far superior.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think they're going to be fired up, especially given the break in action that they've had and and they're going to be prepared for this one.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to walk in and walk out of winter and and come in the six and a half.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm rolling with the ducks as well.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: I do see, I think they have just have superior talent.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_03]: And they've just got to go in and execute and not get caught in a parent's slog where all of a sudden it's three to three at half time.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_03]: And it's punting back and forth, you know, I get your guys on track, get your stars going on offense and they have too many stars.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going with them.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_02]: I take the same team, I am, I have to reconsider.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he's got a half game lead and talking like EA's bulletproof here.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: Great.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't you mention something about me taking a spa day during me?
- 53:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't see on that zoom as he's seeing Texas A&M at Missouri.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_03]: A&M is giving six and a half, just like Oregon.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_03]: This is, I think these games are similar.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_03]: A&M playing great, but going on the road against a pretty dangerous rank component, A&M laying six and a half, Brian Fisher, what do you think?
- 53:59[SPEAKER_04]: Coming off the buy, you would think with the Aggies, maybe a little rusty first half, but I think Mike Elco can stay first time starter at quarterback.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_04]: And even if the Eli drink what's his in his bag and has some things saved up for this game, I still think the defensive line that the front seven for A&M, that makes a difference in this one.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe they get a turnover, maybe they get two turnovers to make this more of a one-way traffic.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_04]: I think the Aggies go on the road cover, even though this is kind of that spot where you kind of expect,
- 54:28[SPEAKER_04]: going to A&M.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, historically this, you know, late in the season, Michael Steve's a faded.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: This would kind of be one of those spots you pick it.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_04]: But, uh, with the first time starting quarterback, uh, I think it's going to be too much from Zoom.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_04]: Go ahead, Pat.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going with A&M as well.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think that, uh, they, I think that,
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: they have weapons that are going to be hard for Missouri to handle.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_03]: Missouri's defense is good, but Casey's concept is young and Memorial Craver at receiver.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_03]: Those guys are big playguys waiting to happen, get them loose, they can make plays and I just don't know whether Missouri with Matt Zoller is a freshman quarterback.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_03]: He played very well in emergency relief of Boe per Bula in Nashville against Vanderbilt and you do have another week to coach him up, but I almost wonder
- 55:17[SPEAKER_03]: sometimes you see this guys to get thrown in and they're just playing and not thinking at all.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_03]: Now, he's had a lot of time to think and that may actually work against them.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to say A&M gets out of there with a touchdown win.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: That is incredibly logical, reasonable thinking right there, which is exactly why I'm going to take Mizzou and take those six and a half points because you help make my point.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_02]: Mizzou is also coming off a by week.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: They've had two weeks to try to get him ready.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, I'll be the first to acknowledge that ANM's offense is terrifying.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's scary, what those guys at me outside can do.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_02]: But Mizzou is one of only four teams to rank in the top 15 and total defense.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_02]: So number five,
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: and total offense are number 14 and no A&M is not one of the other teams.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the, I think Mizzou can hang around that games at Mizzou.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_02]: I like getting those points in this case.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_03]: Special teams could be a factor there and I like, and I'm in that regard, two-punt return touchdowns so far this year for Concepts of Yone.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_03]: These were the two schools that sued the league to get preferential treatment because they were so far superior to everyone else in the league.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: Florida State one and four in the conference and in 15th place.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, 14th place and now 15th and Clemson two and four and tied for 12th.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_03]: Whoops.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_03]: I hope you can enjoy your good or your extra revenue.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, this game is on the CW, which is not even a ratings network.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_03]: So you're not going to get your revenue from that.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_03]: As for the game.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_03]: Clemson is giving two and a half.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's at death Valley FSU is a two and a half point underdog.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'm taking Clemson.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_03]: I have no conviction neither teams any good.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_03]: They're both miserable, but I'm going to say that Clemson finds a sliver of pride here and plays better and gets the victory.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_04]: Right there with you.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you know, I'm right there with you.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_04]: I don't have any conviction and I think if you looked at some of the event stats and some of the numbers, they would probably lean floor to state in this one, but I just don't
- 57:51[SPEAKER_04]: don't trust the holes.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_04]: And I think Clemson at home night game and death Valley that place should be rocking because they know they're going to need the fan support.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_04]: I think that Clemson defensive line taking advantage of the nose offensive line might be a big factor in this one.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_04]: So reluctantly going with with Dabo and the tigers.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_02]: This is like rummaging through your dirty close basket.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: and picking the least stinking t-shirt that you want to wear again, and I mean you don't trust you don't trust Florida State.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how you can trust Clemson.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: Clemson is one aid of the last nine versus FSU, but
- 58:31[SPEAKER_02]: FSU went to Clemson in 23 and 1, which means absolutely nothing these days.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm with you on the no conviction train, but I'm going to go ahead and take FSU in those two and half points.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_02]: Why absolutely zero idea.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's like I'm headed for 40 territory this week.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_03]: Man, the abuse I take on this show, it's incredible.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_03]: I will say it is interesting watching our producer Kent logs in the picks and I can see on the Google Doc.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_03]: And he basically tries to kind of listen to what we're saying and predict and so he starts to erase one of the other.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_03]: Gene, Gene always keeps him guessing that down the last second there, but producer Kent doing a good job keeping us on task here.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of the week who has won.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_04]: Go ahead, Gene.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Washington is at mad town for the first time in 57 years, even though the beer sales numbers were a little off, it should be a beer consumption game.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_02]: Wisconsin is getting 11 and a half points.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_02]: They put up a respectable effort.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_02]: for them at Oregon.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_02]: So that's something they did cover the 30 points.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't think it happens this week.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_02]: Washington, even though it's traveling across the country, is actually getting a fairly humane kickoff time.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think that's going to be an issue.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_02]: Both teams are coming off the by.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't see how Wisconsin's got off offense keeps up with what the mind Williams can do with Washington.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a blowout game in Washington covers.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_03]: I have to say if the show did nothing else this week, we got Gino to say Wisconsin about eight times.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_03]: So that's good.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_03]: That keeps our readers or our listeners coming back.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_02]: I believe if that's what keeps our listeners coming back.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_02]: We got a real issue.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_02]: We have issues.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_03]: We got a lot of issues are working.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_03]: We're trying to get better.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll take I'll I'll I'll give the 11 and a half.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and take a Washington Brian.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_04]: We're going back out west again.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_04]: We'll see if any of the three of us can stay up for this game San Diego state is at the islands.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_04]: They are getting seven.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_02]: Seven hard.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_04]: No, you know, they're, yeah.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_04]: So another touchdown for San Diego state.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_04]: I think things are.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_04]: clicking for Sean Lose's team, especially offensively.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_04]: They've got one of the best defenses in the mountain west.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_04]: Give me the Aztecs to cover the seven out there at Hawaii, especially after Hawaii's also made to, you know, back to back trips to the mainland.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_04]: So they're going to be pretty tired for this one as well.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't think travel is going to be the issue.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_04]: Give me the Aztecs.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_03]: I like both the picks and I almost took Washington myself.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_03]: I did in my picks that I have to make for SI.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_03]: I like them in that game.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_03]: But I think I found Sean Lewis's burner account on Twitter, by the way, I termed Kent State as a walkover for somebody.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_03]: And all of a sudden, I'm getting replies.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's a cheap shot.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, no, it's actually true.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_03]: And then I looked.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_03]: And the guy is a big fan of San Diego State, too.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_03]: He was defending Kent State and is a big fan of San Diego State.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_03]: I'm putting two and two together.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_03]: Sean Lewis burner, I'm on to you.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_03]: All right, my lock of the week, guess what?
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going back where I was wildly mocked for doing it before but I'm taking North Carolina.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_03]: They're at home again, Stanford, Stanford is a bad road team.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_03]: North Carolina is playing better as we have noted.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_03]: They punished Syracuse 127 to 10 and that was a take any situation to keep it from being 34 to 10.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_03]: I'm giving a hook, it's 7 and a half.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_03]: I wish it were 7 or 6 and a half.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_03]: But fine, you know what?
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'm rolling with Chapel Bill.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_03]: He's got it going.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_03]: Jordan Hudson, everything on the vibes are all good.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_03]: We're going with the heels in the hoodie to cover the seven and a half.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_03]: All right, last thing guys, I brought this up before in regards to Halloween.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about the runaway pumpkin, the giant inflatable pumpkin in I think it was in Ohio.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_03]: I was like four weeks or whatever before Halloween and my point was why the hell do you have your pumpkin out that earlier inflatable pumpkin?
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's walking the neighborhood here Sunday night November 2nd come across a house lit up for Christmas like Danny de Vito's in that one team movie where you know you're trying to be visible from space on November 2nd.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: If I forget, okay, you know, maybe the weather's warm and you want to get the lights up now, you know, just in case turns bad, but do you have to turn them all on.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yes.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_03]: You've got to turn them all on.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_03]: And not only that, you've got to have the tree up already.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_03]: And the tree is up in the front window.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_03]: Am I a miserable Christmas hating schmuck or do I have the right to egg this people these people's house.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_03]: Justice, what's a house key.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have an opinion I will if eggs weren't so expensive.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_02]: I would send you a carton and maybe even drive to Louisville and help you out with that.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, okay, the weather thing living in Chicago most of the year, yes, that's a real thing.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_02]: You want to get them up before your hands freeze when you're trying to attach those little plastic things to the gutters for the lights.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_02]: Totally get it.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_02]: Under no circumstances, do you turn that switch on?
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_02]: We just don't.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's embarrassing.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, I support you brother.
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you very much, Brian.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think you'll be thrilled to know that on November 1st, my wife may be get the Christmas trees out first of the house.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_04]: Now we have, we have not gone external with any of this.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think we had this permanent light, so I don't have to do that.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm not turning anything on externally, but the wife has already got the Christmas stuff up much to my sugar in because I think this is really a plague on our society as of late, the Thanksgiving erasure.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_04]: Especially as football, we know how important that is to, to important a holiday is in the sport of football.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like we continually gloss over Thanksgiving.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_04]: So let's give that holiday back its respect and stop a stop overlooking it in favor of Christmas.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_04]: We got to have a month off.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's when you would put up the tree.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, thank you.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, thank you.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_03]: And thank you for speaking up for Thanksgiving.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_03]: The aggression towards Thanksgiving will not stand on this podcast.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_03]: it's way too important.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_03]: And the food is too good.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_03]: It needs its place.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_03]: You can't just steam roll over it and go straight into Christmas mode.
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'll ask you this now, Brian.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_03]: If you've got the Christmas stuff out, how long will it stay up after Christmas?
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, given our schedule come, you know, with multiple rounds of the playoff and my coach told January, the end of January there, you know, maybe maybe there might be some time between the semi finals and the title game, but, you know, we got the NCAA convention everything going on in January, it might stay up a while.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just going to put that out there.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's I'm that these people I I'm I believe will have their lights on for three straight months it'll be all of November all of December and all of January had I'll introduce them to my wife Cheryl who like on the 26th of December she's like Christmas is over get it down.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go get the stuff.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's my wife's pretty much the same.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_03]: She she may let it go to new years, but like she's a three weeks before one week after bone pal were done.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_03]: So exactly.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I watch and say good job.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_03]: All right, clearly that's enough of this show.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for listening.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for watching.
- 1:06:33[SPEAKER_03]: Leave us a review.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_03]: If it's a nice one, if not, please don't.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be back next week.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_03]: We'll try to do better.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_03]: Have a good week.
