- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. I'm going to
- 0:02be your host Tracie and we are in the second week
- 0:04of April and we are continuing with our warfare
- 0:07month. And so in this episode, we are recognizing
- 0:12spiritual. Battles and in the last episode we
- 0:15put on our armor of God and so we had our salvation
- 0:19We had our breastplate. We had our truth. We
- 0:21had our peace. We had our shield We had our sword
- 0:23we are ready for battle now We need to realize
- 0:26what spiritual battles look like and if you are
- 0:29new to fostering faith We welcome you and as
- 0:30we are fostering our faith together. We are just
- 0:32walking in this journey as community because
- 0:34we are better together. And if you are a return
- 0:37listener, thank you so much for coming back home
- 0:38and we hope this message inspires you. And so
- 0:42most believers know that the armor of God exists,
- 0:44but very few know how to recognize when it's
- 0:48actually in spiritual battle. And if the enemy
- 0:52can keep you unaware, he can keep you ineffective.
- 0:55He doesn't need to destroy you. He doesn't need
- 0:57to keep you distracted. He doesn't need to ruin
- 0:59your life. He just needs to convince you that
- 1:02everything is natural. when it's actually spiritual.
- 1:07He doesn't need to attack you loudly. He works
- 1:10subtly, quietly, and strategically, hoping you
- 1:14never realize, hey, this isn't normal. This is
- 1:18spiritual. This is war. And so, in today's episode
- 1:22about spiritual discernment, the ability to recognize
- 1:25when something is actually warfare and not just
- 1:29a bad day or my emotions, that's a coincidence.
- 1:34or life being life because once you can recognize
- 1:38the battle you can respond to it with authority
- 1:41that God gave you and this is important the enemy
- 1:44works the hardest against what God is building
- 1:46in you he intensifies warfare in the exact place
- 1:50your calling is growing he pushes where you are
- 1:53anointed he presses whenever you are gifted he
- 1:56attacks whenever you're most powerful if you
- 1:59can't stop the Salvation? He's trying to stop
- 2:03your influence. If he can't steal your destiny,
- 2:06he'll try to steal your peace. If he can't silence
- 2:08your calling, he'll try to silence your mind.
- 2:11If he can't break your faith, he'll try to break
- 2:13your focus. But today, we're going to expose
- 2:17him. And the first truth is, you're not crazy.
- 2:20You're just under attack. So many believers feel
- 2:23guilty, confused, or embarrassed about spiritual
- 2:25pressure because no one taught them Where spiritual
- 2:30work feels like so here there's clearly you're
- 2:33not dramatic. You're not imagining things You're
- 2:36not too sensitive. You're not unstable. You're
- 2:39not weak You're in a spiritual battle in the
- 2:42moment. You can name it you can fight it What
- 2:47spiritual warfare can look like spiritual warfare
- 2:49doesn't always look like Hollywood most the time
- 2:53they show up in sudden discouragement everything
- 2:57was fine and then WHAM heaviness confusion where
- 3:03there was clarity god gave me direction and then
- 3:06all of a sudden you doubt everything emotionally
- 3:09overwhelmed crying for no reason irritability
- 3:13spiritual agitation mental fog you can't focus
- 3:20thoughts are scattered nothing makes sense unexplainable
- 3:25pressure A heaviness that doesn't match your
- 3:29reality. Temptations of old areas. The enemy
- 3:33tries to drag you back where God had pulled you
- 3:36from. Conflict that escalates unnaturally. Arguments
- 3:42that feel charged. Spiritual tension disguised
- 3:45as relational friction. Isolation. Pulling away
- 3:50from community. Church. Scripture. Prayer. If
- 3:54he has you all alone. And that's why we say theology
- 3:58by itself is dangerous. Don't isolate yourself.
- 4:02Nothing good can come from isolation. Attacks
- 4:06on your identity. Feeling not good enough? Insecure?
- 4:10Ashamed? Unqualified? Attacks during big spiritual
- 4:16steps. Right before a breakthrough, obedience
- 4:18or calling, leadership or influence expands.
- 4:23That's whenever he's going to attack. Feeling
- 4:25tired no matter how much rest that you get. Spiritual
- 4:29level fatigue. Hyper awareness of problems. Everything
- 4:33feels big. Everything feels urgent. Feeling just
- 4:36overwhelmed about everything. Olten insecurities
- 4:40resurfacing. Patterns you thought were long gone
- 4:43creeping back. An increase in random frustrations.
- 4:49Small things pile up to create a big atmosphere.
- 4:55Accusations. You're failing. You're not called.
- 4:59You're not worthy. Everyone is against you. Whenever
- 5:02the enemy wants to disrupt your purpose, he starts
- 5:05with your mind. And yes, a lot of those things
- 5:08can sound like medical conditions and things
- 5:10like that. And so we always want to make sure
- 5:12that we are being mindful over the body that
- 5:14he has given us. And so if you're feeling any
- 5:16type of way, make sure that you're talking with
- 5:18your provider just to make sure that their insides
- 5:20are not trying to kill you too. The biblical
- 5:23examples of spiritual warfare moments. And so,
- 5:26Job. Attacks came in waves. Hell rarely fights
- 5:30you at once. The attacks are in patterns. And
- 5:34Elijah. Spiritual exhaustion after spiritual
- 5:37victory. Battle often hits the hardest after
- 5:41a breakthrough. Look at Jesus. He got baptized,
- 5:44was sent to the wilderness, and who met him there?
- 5:47Exactly. Jesus' temptation during the wilderness
- 5:52attracted warfare because isolation tests identity.
- 5:57Peter? Satan asked to sift him. Sifting feels
- 6:02chaotic confusion and disorienting. Paul? A thorn?
- 6:07Spiritual harassment. Some warfare isn't removed.
- 6:11It's resisted. And Daniel? Demonic delays of
- 6:15answers. And not every delay is natural. Some
- 6:18are spiritual. The Bible is honest. Warfare is
- 6:21real, but victory is more real. And the enemy
- 6:25has patterns, and he repeats them. He has nothing
- 6:28new in his playbook. Just like God is consistent,
- 6:30the enemy is predictable. And we've done a podcast
- 6:33on this before, the Devil's Playbook. And he
- 6:35uses the same main distractions over and over.
- 6:39And so one, distraction. He can't destroy you,
- 6:43but he'll distract you. Deception. He twists
- 6:47the truth, he whispers lies, and he distorts
- 6:50scripture. Division. Arguments, misunderstandings,
- 6:56relational tension. Four. Discouragement. He
- 7:01drains your hope and joy. Five. Delay. He slows
- 7:08breakthroughs to weaken your faith. Six. Doubt.
- 7:14He questions what God said. Despair. He pushes
- 7:20weariness to make you want to quit. But hear
- 7:23me, once you recognize these patterns, you can
- 7:27stop falling for them. Awareness is warfare.
- 7:34And how to know it's spiritual battle, the sermon
- 7:38checklist. So ask these questions to yourself.
- 7:41Is this attack? Disproportionate to the situation.
- 7:45Small things big reactions? Spiritual? 2. Did
- 7:50this hit right after a spiritual growth or obedience?
- 7:553. Does this attack target my identity or calling?
- 8:014. Is the confusion where God previously gave
- 8:06me clarity? 5. Is the attack sudden, intense,
- 8:11or unusual? That's a sign it's spiritual. 6.
- 8:17Is it hitting the same places over and over again?
- 8:21The enemy loves to repeat what worked before.
- 8:23He's not stupid. He got you the last time, he'll
- 8:25get you again. 7. Does it feel heavy, dark, or
- 8:31suffocating? Warfare always carries weight. 8.
- 8:41Is there a push toward isolation? Isolation is
- 8:45spiritual quicksand. 9. Does a situation produce
- 8:50fear out of nowhere? Fear is a spirit, not a
- 8:54personality trait. 10. Is your mind under pressure?
- 9:00Thoughts are the battlefield, and if you answered
- 9:03yes to multiple questions, You're not dealing
- 9:05with circumstances. You're dealing with spiritual
- 9:07warfare. And the moment that you see it is a
- 9:09moment that you can fight it. And the enemy can
- 9:12attack, but he cannot win. The enemy has eliminated
- 9:16power. He cannot read your mind, control your
- 9:20spirit, override God's plan, break God's covering,
- 9:25remove God's calling, separate you from God,
- 9:28steal your salvation, cancel your destiny, block
- 9:32God's voice, or reverse God's Word. He can only
- 9:37influence your thoughts, your emotions, your
- 9:41focus, your perception, your obedience, your
- 9:45competence, and your habits. And that's why scripture
- 9:48says resist the enemy and he will flee in James
- 9:524 -7. Not maybe, not sometimes, not if you're
- 9:56strong enough. He will flee. Why? Because he
- 10:01is defeated. He is overpowered. He is outmatched.
- 10:06He is outranked by every believer covered in
- 10:09Jesus. You don't fight for victory. You fight
- 10:14from victory. And so how do we respond whenever
- 10:17we recognize spiritual attack? One, stop and
- 10:20acknowledge it. Say it out loud. This is spiritual,
- 10:24not emotional. Two, use the word as a weapon.
- 10:31declare scripture over your thoughts three pray
- 10:36out loud hell hates when you speak truth four
- 10:41reject the lie say i refuse agreement with this
- 10:45thoughts i refuse agreement i do not agree with
- 10:48this thought done take it captive five use the
- 10:53name of jesus demons tremble at the name not
- 10:58yours They don't say Rebecca, Rebecca, and they
- 11:00go away. No. They don't say Tracy, Tracy, and
- 11:03they go away. Jesus, Jesus. And there are some
- 11:05days I probably say his name a hundred times
- 11:09just because I need his presence. I just need
- 11:11his name out there just because one, it makes
- 11:15me smile and two, just to prove, just to make
- 11:19sure that just the area is clean because they
- 11:22have to flee. They have to flee. They know who
- 11:23he is. They know his power. Six, ask the Holy
- 11:27Spirit for strategy. He will always give you
- 11:29clarity. In His time, in His way. But He will
- 11:32always give you clarity. 7. Tell someone you
- 11:35trust. Hidden warfare is heavy warfare, and we
- 11:39are meant to do this together. 8. Worship through
- 11:43it. Worship changes the spiritual atmosphere.
- 11:499. Don't isolate yourself. Stay in community.
- 11:53I can't say that enough. Small groups. Get connected
- 11:57with somebody at church. Don't be a back row
- 12:00specialist. You are not connecting with people.
- 12:02It's because you get in and you get out. Stay.
- 12:05Be in community. Linger. Ten. Stand firm. Attacks
- 12:10don't last, but your authority does. And so,
- 12:15in your workbook this week, the question is,
- 12:17what spiritual battle am I in right now? What
- 12:20is being targeted? Your identity? Your mind?
- 12:24Your peace? Your focus? Your calling? your confidence,
- 12:27your relationships, your emotions, your consistency.
- 12:31Name it. And write down the specific place where
- 12:35you're being attacked and respond with scripture.
- 12:38The attack, I'm not enough. Scripture says I'm
- 12:40a masterpiece. I feel afraid. God has not given
- 12:46me a spirit of fear. Nothing is changing. God
- 12:51is working all things out for my good. This is
- 12:55not symbolic. This is warfare. And so we hope
- 13:00that this opened your eyes. We hope this gave
- 13:02you a fresh perspective. We hope that this gave
- 13:04you tools to use as we are putting things in
- 13:07our tool belt as we go into battle. And so we
- 13:10hope this message encouraged you. Make sure that
- 13:12you write. Leave a comment. Make sure that you
- 13:14subscribe. Make sure that you're printing out
- 13:16these workbooks. We hope that these are encouraging
